2024.05.17 14:08 hallohi_ Impression of 10 fragrances from the Etat Libre D' Orange Set part 2

Last week posted about the 10 ELDO fragrances I had already tried (https://www.reddit.com/fragrance/comments/1cpni3c/my_impression_of_10_fragrances_from_the_etat/) . Here are the remaning 10 fragrances from this discovery set. I found more fragrances of my liking last time, but I did my best to try review them all
Clean Suede: This a simple, clean but sexy fragrance. I can' t tell apart the notes very well. I smell something talc like, something peppery, and a good dose of incense (not listed). My thought was that I would probably enjoy smelling this on a man. In the drydown there is good dose of tonka or vanilla and It becomes a little too sweet wo be considered classically masculine, more of a unisex fragrance. I think most people could enjoy this one since It is not particularly challenging, but neither boring nor too basic.
Eau de Protection: In the opening the bitter orange prevails . The focus is on the white, bitter part of the fruit, rather than on the sweet and juicy part. I also smell something similar to lemon grass and the overall composition screams mosquito repellant to me. Almost made me think this was the true "protection" the name suggested...but the rose slowly becomes stronger, and my association with mosquito repellat weaker. Despite that I still don' t like this take on rose, that personally reminds of rose hand soap, in an ambellished bathroom, in the house of someone's great aunt.
Archives 69: Defective sample vial barely spritzs at all. By the way I insisted and a few hours later I was able to gather a decent amount of juice in my inner elbow. The opening is aromatic, peppery and I also get something reminding me of vinegar or acetone? As it dries down the incense and fresh balsamic notes get more noticeable. I think Archives is a bit in the same vein as "Like this", but white I enjoied the latter, I don' t find archives to be really interesting or pleasant. Both are also supposed to have some sweet facets that my nose can' t somehow pick up. Overall I don' t care If I won' t be able to use this sample.
500 Years: In the opening I get cocoa ad rose, rose and cocoa. Very dry and powdery smelling. I was not expecting to like this a lot based on the opening (I am not a cocoa lover) but It really grew on me. In the drydown I kept smelling my arm because It develops a nice woody, spicy with dominant cardamom (love cardamom) and mysterious aroma. This one is a serious, dry, and a bit gloomy rose. I will treasure my sample until next autumn, as I see it more fitted for cold weather.
Hermann à mes côtés me paraissait une ombre: I don't exactly know what I am smelling. It is markedly earthy. Aside from that it is peppery, dry and dusty, a bit weird but not in an unplesant way, actually quite intriguing, It gives a warm feeling without being creamy or sweet. I also get rose, again. Probably the more masculine leaning of the set, together with exit the king.
She was an Anomaly: Barely there musky skin scent. It smells like if you had Just got out the shower, skin still warm, after using some white musk bodywash. Aside from that, there is a very faint citric note in the opening and I also though I was getting some iris, but it is not listed. Maybe something meant for people who don' t like to wear fragrances? Either way it doesn't elicit any feeling in me. Quite underwhelming.
Frustration: I loved It on paper. Boozy, sweet, smoky, woody. I almost thought I had finally found a gourmand I loved. But when I tested It on skin, there was some very sharp artificial smelling note always on top. It is a pity because the gourmand "bonfire" smell could have been appealing, if only they did not add burnt rubber or gasoline to the mix. Leans masculine.
Exit the King: The opening is exactly like a white bar of soap. Can' t go much cleaner than this. After about 20 minutes I am able to smell the orange blossom. If a gentleman from around 1920's was staying at some hotel in Paris and washed his hair, body and shaved his beard clean using the same white bar of soap, he would smell like this. I can also imagine him having breakfast while reading a newspaper on a bright sunny morning. I find the earthy, mossy, clean drydown very pleasant.
Spice Must Flow: Again I was expecting something different based on the name. Something dry, warm and spicy in the Tauer L' air du Desert style. Instead this is a very sweet rose with similarily sweet spices . If I had to compare it I would say it is closer to Malle Portrait of a Lady (they are not that similar, POAL is nowhere as sweet and has some fresh mentholated facet that is not present here). The overall sensation here is that of an almost syrupy, medicinal rose. I also smell again something unpleasant and similar to vinegar or acetone . It has great longevity and sillage and will definitely not go unnoticed, unfortunately not my cup of tea. Also, despite me liking rose, I was honestly a bit tired of smelling It at this point.
The Ghost in the Shell: Probably the one I disliked more after Experimentum Crucis. It opens as an extremely milky and plasticky smelling skin scent. Some flowers on top. I imagine this is how a lactating cyborg nanny would smell like. I dislike lactonic notes in general, but this one is something else and If I put my nose too close It really makes me nauseus. It does not evolve much, it simply becomes more musky and a bit less nauseating. Interesting in a creative, experimental way though.

Final considerations: Trying this discovery set was quite a fun experience, but as for now the only fragrance I really love is YOSLY (which was also the only one I had already tested). I kept 6 out of 20 samples that I will wear again (YOSLY, Soul of my Soul, Like this, 500 years, Putain des Palaces, Remarkable People). I gave the rest away even if someone were nice (es Herman or clean suede) because I simply knew they were not my style.
I would recommend this sample set to anyone who is new to this hobby and is open to experiment with a lot of samples . I would probably not reccomend it to people who dislike rose, because there really was a lot of It, and to men who only enjoy traditionally masculine smelling fragrances, because there is not a lot of It.

2024.05.17 13:56 GorillaGrip68 working at the cheesecake factory… is it me? should i give up?

So i’m an ICU nurse but wanted a side job to replace amazon flex. i have been a waitress for several years prior to nursing and was successful (at applebees, buffalo wild wings, and AMC theater) so i was honestly very excited to get back into it.
my training shifts that were from 11a-4p seemed promising. I had to give the tips to the server training me of course but tips ranged from $10-25 per table consistently for the morning shift. with that i was expecting to be making, at minmum, $100 per shift.
fast forward to now, i've been in the high top/bar section during the evening happy hour on week days and it really hasn’t been worth my time. for the past few nights i’ve been coming home with $50-70. i’m convinced it’s my personality… it has to be? i am on the spectrum so i know i can sound monotoned and flat at times. i try my best to laugh at dad jokes, i always smile, but i can feel that im awkward and normal people pick up on that, i suppose.
mother’s day was the worst. long wait times & a few kitchen errors, angry moms, came home with $65 after seven hours. cried.
so now i’m debating quitting because i’m not driving anywhere to make under $18 an hour. i have my first solo brunch shift scheduled for today & i’m excited to see how it goes but if im still making $50-70 then i’ll know it’s definitely something off putting about me.
i’ve noticed happy hour attracts people who are pressed for cash, i had a very nice mom and daughter yesterday who i had an amazing conversation with & she was honest with me and said she can’t afford to tip. yesterday i also had 3 tables of foreigners (i made the rookie mistake of accepting someone’s request to transfer the table to me) and got $0 each time. the server who transferred the table to me told me they had a caste system and it was on their culture to treat servers poorly and not tip. so idk.
overall so far CCF just doesn’t have the crowd that i expected i’m hoping my morning shift today will be better.
i’m yapping this much because i’m wondering does anyone have a similar experience to mine? is anyone here on the spectrum? and most importantly, should i hang in there or just quit?

trigger warning for addiction, suicide, neglect, abuse, drunk driving, pedophilia & probably other things
i dont really know what to do with my parent. currently, I'm kind of stuck with them like i have been my whole life. at least my partner lives with us now and has been an irreplaceable pillar of support, i genuinely dont know if i would have made it without him, not to sound codependent.
my parent struggles a lot with severe depression above all, but also anxiety, adhd, probably bpd (i have it lol) and other things as well. poverty is, of course, the main factor behind it. they have struggled with addiction most of my life, with it worsening severely around when i was in middle school. cigarettes and alcohol were always a daily thing, but it was those years where it became really, really bad. im talking start drinking with their friend (we were always at her house) when they got off work and dont stop until anywhere from 3-7am and it ended in screaming match arguments with said friend. the friend had a kid of her own, and i did my best to protect him from that, including introjecting in fights that his mom and dad would get into with him. my parent just let it all happen and excused their friend time and time again. meanwhile, they would drive me around blackout drunk, get angry and threaten me at random, and personally witnessed me fall to the hands of pedophiles and did nothing but laugh about it (much later on, after i briefly alluded to having been groomed, they went on to say"if i had known...", lol. but hey, maybe between all the booze, the memories just got lost). they watched and allowed a middle aged man to prey on me when i was 12 at a bar they took me to; allowed/ignored it bc they were jealous since they had a crush on him, even after i begged them to let me leave. i eventually became pretty numb to it all.
we were homeless for a bit. if you include being forced to share a bedroom and live with family because we couldnt afford our own place, it was more like 4 years. but that happens, uncontrollably, thats fine. i would later hear them talk about how they drafted up their suicide note and made preparations to commit during that time. some time around then, they sustained a head injury after falling while drunk, and i thought i had watched them die in my arms. i screamed at and hit them. it was an extra shame, because i had just started to get some feeling back- not always numb. i cared again about whether they died, after not having been able to make myself care previously, sometimes even hoping for it.
younger childhood was pretty empty, only child, i just remember being alone a lot. we get home, they went to drink and smoke in the yard, so i had to stay in the house. i later realized i had a lot of severe dissociative episodes a child, especially when left alone. on the rare occasion i get one now, it horrifies me and ruins my mood for days.
I'm an adult now, its been a good ~4 years since the worst of it, so i thought for awhile. we don't talk as much anymore, and even less now that my partner is moved in. its always awkward. theyre always upset. within the last year, they continuously stole my rx medications, and when i completely cut them off from it, they said they wanted to kill themselves and the only thing that would help was me giving them my meds. they said theyd admit themselves to inpatient. i offered to help, i tried to be there for them while standing my ground- they never did go to inpatient, and continued to steal my medications even when i tried hiding them. they frequently make passive aggressive comments or blow up on me out of nowhere, it seems like they take every chance they get to disrespect me. like an emotional punching bag. theyve taken money from me for as long as i can remember, whether outright stealing, or demanding and threatening. theyve been unemployed for a long while now, and have been lacking in efforts to get a job. but they did go back to school, so thats nice. theyre always miserable. theyre always about to cry. we've had several eviction notices as my partner and i cannot afford to pay rent with just our jobs. im also concerned they may have an opioid addiction.
and still, i love them. i care for them deeply. i feel so incredibly bad for them, watching them hurt makes heart break. i know i have to leave at some point when i am financially able to, but i am horrified of the consequences of doing so while they are in an even more dire emotional and financial state than usual. but i dont know how much more i can do. ive tried gently helping them in the past, and it ends horrifically. i think i will try again one last time. they don't have any friends in the area, and they never leave the house except to buy more cigs/alcohol/weed/etc. my grandparents are both too scared to do anything to upset my parent more, but to be fair, only one of them recently (few months ago)found out about some of the substance abuse and stealing after i reached out to him for help. he was useless.
even on the occasions they're being kind, on their "best behavior", i still can hardly stand to be around them. i instinctively ignore their messages if its not absolutely dire. i dont know how to cope with it anymore. i dont really know how to help them differently than i have, or more, i dont know if i want to- if i can. i might try reaching out to their old long term friends asking to give them support, but i have no idea how they'll react, and i dont want it to backfire.
i think they want to get better. i know theyre miserable, they have been my whole life. almost every waking moment of my life is occupied with this situation. how do i feel about it? how do i navigate it? what do i do next, if anything? i frequently feel like im being too harsh on them even if just in my unspoken opinions, and i like im never doing enough for them. but i really do struggle to recall a truly cherished memory with them, while the bad ones come out left and right, even when i try to downplay them.
what do i do?

Here’s a quick rundown of the best fixes I found:
  1. Adjust the Volume: Ensure you’re adjusting the Apple TV’s volume correctly. Use the Apple TV remote for non-smart TVs or the TV remote for smart TVs. Also, check the volume on the AV receiver and the source device (like a laptop or smartphone).

The owner is a friend and they were very sweet over the phone. "We all miss you" and such. Not genuine friendship and I recognize the ugly patina but it was semi genuine as she must truly miss the revenue stream I used to provide. Now, I've stopped in on a rare occasion before and never had a drop of alcohol so I wasn't worried. I missed my 'friend' but was having a lousy day and knew being in there was a potential disaster. When I went in and saw them and a couple of the regulars all I felt was sadness. Sad that I had spent far too many hours and dollars there. Sad for the regs that I fear will never make it out and most of all, sad for my friend, the owner. They lost their spouse last year to drinking. Mid 50s. We all saw it coming and there is my friend in the middle of exactly how it happened. That bar. I chatted with them but was overwhelmed by their sadness and not by way of any superiority on my part! After a little bit of conversation I gave them a friendly and caring hug as a silent goodbye. I'm not going to visit that sad place anymore. My evolution doesn't end with just embracing sobriety. Best to each of you, fellow travelers.

I don’t know why I’m posting in here. I just feel as if I’ve reached rock bottom.
I’ve (F, 24) been a “situationship” with J (M, 29) for two years now. We met on a dating app and have been sleeping together since. Since the beginning he has made it clear he didn’t want to be in a relationship with me, but as time went on we spent more and more nights together and agreed we wouldn’t sleep with other people.
It changed from just sex- to spending three to four nights together starting in September of last year. We’d cook together, watch movies, and sleep together. We had a routine and spent more nights together than not.
Last year, we gave the relationship thing a go- he’d told me he had wanted to be with me one other time but had changed his mind a week later, so I was tentative to say the least. I met his family and I was so happy he finally was seeing me. He ended it two months later, but nothing really changed between us. We kept on spending just as much time together.
Ive tried to get out of the situation, I honestly have. But I love him and I felt like anything was better than nothing. I think I secretly felt like maybe he loved me too but wouldn’t admit it to himself. It is pathetic tbh and I know this.
Flash forward to March- he knocked me up. I took a plan B- it didn’t work. I didn’t find out for a while and when I did I told him. He told me I should get an abortion and that all I’ve been is a place holder. He told me he was gonna end things as soon as he found a woman that he “actually likes.”
I left for a couple weeks- while I was gone he seemed to have a slight change of heart. He asked me to move into his spare room in his place to help me while I’m pregnant and with the baby.
When I came back we decided to see each other.. we did our usual thing, I read my book and he did his puzzle. I decided to head up to bed and when I did I saw an opened condom wrapper on the floor. I went downstairs and confronted him and he told me that three days after I told him I was pregnant he picked up a girl at a bar and took her home
I wasn’t shocked but I was heart broken. I spent all night crying. I have his baby in my belly. We’ve been “together” for almost two years and he chooses to go out and fuck some girl right when he finds out. The most pathetic thing about it is I stayed the night after I found out. I stayed in his bed and in the morning I saw her hair on my pillow and I felt like I was going to throw up. I don’t know how to move forward. I don’t know how to handle this pregnancy. I know most people here are going to tell me to abort but I ’ve seen the baby on the ultrasound kicking its little legs already and I won’t end this pregnancy. I love them already.
He already has another baby who will be two years old this Summer. He’s done this before, but with her it was a one night stand. He doesn’t want to be with either of us.
I just feel so inadequate. I don’t feel lovable. I wonder if I’m not pretty enough or what I’m lacking. I know I need to grow in self love. I know I need to detach. Rationally I know these things but I don’t know how to- if I did I wouldn’t be pregnant. I wish I respected myself enough to walk away but I feel stuck. I just want to be loved and supported and it hurts so badly. My dating life is over, I’m going to be a full time mom- I’ll have custody. My body will change. My everything will change, and he just gets to do what he wants, go to bars, fuck women … whatever. Without repercussion.
I want to point out that I gave him the option to not be involved in the babies life since he doesn’t want to be and he’s insistent that he will be present. I want to be a good mom but since that night I can hardly get out bed. I don’t know how to coparent with someone like this. The situation just keeps playing over in my head and I feel physically sick and I don’t know how to get out of this hole and over him. I should hate him but I don’t.
Advice wise- hit me with the best you got. How do I get over this? How do I detatch? How do I deal with the fact that I have to coparent with a man who is fucking other women while I’m pregnant? I’m heartbroken.

Holy Christ call the whawmbulance half of these posts are just crying. "Omg blank boss is so hard bad game desing how is this fun???!" And it's just the most mid take of an average fight that hasn't clicked with them yet and would only take a few more tries.
And all the people who take dozens of attempts and sit there for hours trying and re trying the same boss are just failing because they're tilt playing so they're playing like shit. If you lose 5 ranked games back to back and are losing your mind you DO NOT que up again you'll only lose more. Same with this game. If you were going to learn anything today you already would have, move on and try again tomorrow.
Ive seen people rage about a handful of bosses that don't deserve it but I've also seen people complain about fundamental things like melee being harder than ranged. Melee in almost every game is harder because you get hit more, high risk for more reward. The weirdest complaint I've seen is somebody being annoyed with the Day Night cycle?? The best part of this game.

Hello everyone! I've tried to keep this post as organized as possible, I am sorry if it is too much or too little and am happy to correct it as needed.
I am concerned about the upward trajectory of my dogs weight and am looking for advice on what more we can adjust to keep him healthy!
Species: Dog
Age: 6
Sex/Neuter status: Chemical castration in March 2024 ( decision for aggression issues after adopting him and trying to train his behavior for ~2 years )
Breed: Not fully known, his previous family thought havanese/chinese crested mix, we think maybe maltese mix of some kind.
Body weight: 7kg
History: Before chemical castration it was difficult to keep him on a regular food schedule, he was picky but he maintained a healthy approved weight ranging from 6 to 6.5kg - vet was happy with this weight. At the time of his castration, he was 6.3kg - this was maintained across about 2 or 3 weeks at the time and is a good representation of his usual weight. After chemical castration, his focus on food skyrocketed so that he began to gobble down each meal - we broke his meals into smaller parts and began measuring more exactly, starting with 35g per meal. He now eats four small scheduled meals a day, using a puzzle feeder to slow him down.
Clinical signs: Idk if this is a clinical sign but I'll put this here. His weight has been slowly climbing. He is now 7kg, and his waist line is filling out and his ribs are less easy to feel.

So basically OSRS or Old School RuneScape has an auction house and it works like this. I'll use PoE terms so it makes easier to illustrade the idea. Keep in mind the way I translate the OSRS ingame trade mechanics are just to make it digestible to the PoE community and are not by any means how it must be. With that said:

OSRS has a trade restriction under 20 hours active play time. This would translate to 20 hours + finishing campaign on PoE. This is to reduce botting.
1 - Everyone has a set amount of trade slots, you can buy more for ingame currency, slots are where you put your orders in.
The amount of slots is to reduce botting and discourage flipping.
2 - Every transaction above a low threshold has a tax equivalent to 1% of it's price up to a maximum of much higher threshold cost.
The trade tax is also to prevent botting and discourage flipping. An equivallent for PoE would be every transaction over 10 chaos up to 1 mirror has a 1% tax.
3 - Every item has a limit to how many you can buy, usually that limit is much more than the "maximum possible use limit for any given player".
To put it in perspective, it would be like 400 scarabs of domination every 4 hours, not any scarab, just scarabs of domination. (something that you really can't use in just that amount of time). This is to discourage flipping as well.
4 - When trading, prices are shown to the player at current average, The player has the fast option to make it 5% cheaper, more expensive or type the price. Respectively represented by "⌄", "⌃" and "...".

5 - Every sell/buy go for a queue.
5.1 - Queue for buying goes for the cheapest item and then the oldest item for sale.
This means that If you order a tabula for 10 chaos and the cheapest tabula is listed for 8 chaos > You receive the tabula and 2 chaos back.
5.2 - Queue for selling goes for the oldest request for the price setted by you.
If you intent to sell a tabula for 10 chaos, you'll always receive the 10 chaos for the item OR not sell. Players are able to remove offers at any time.

6 - sell/buy orders don't need to be completed by one single player. If you intend to buy 200 scarabs, you could be buying from 20 different players and all automatically. The bar shows the current progress of your buy order.

How it really works? TLDR.
  • Instabuy and instasell are possible. Usually if you want to instabuy something you would have to pay 5% more, if you want to instasell something you would make 5% less.
  • It's possible to buy items cheaper, especially farming goods ( like scarabs on PoE) cheaper if you are able to wait for them to be bought overnight. Same is true for selling items, if you are patient you can wait for someone that is willing to pay more for your goods.
  • The economy is much more alive, as people don't need to be online to sell or buy. Trades are way easier as one order can buy from multiple sellers, and the other way around is also true.
  • Flipping is possible and profitable, but it is not the best by any means. The limited amount of slots, the 1% tax and the maximum by of any item limits the power of flippers by a good amount without making it completly impossible.
To be honest, I don't know if it would really work as intend as PoE is a really complex game, but I see how it should be adapted to work well without the draw backs of having an auction house.

“Told by who?” the sergeant asked.
“By those who reside further in the future,” Amélie informed him. “They have far more knowledge of the enemy than we do.”
He gave the Frenchwoman a confused look. “You must understand, Sergeant Delany, that time travel is extremely difficult,” Vargas continued. “It requires a great deal of energy, and much like your automobile, the farther you go, the more energy is required. Unlike your vehicle, however, it’s not a simple 1:1 ratio. Like the speed of light, it’s bound by the same parameters of the E=mc2 equation that Einstein first theorized.”
Mike just stared at him. Vargas sighed. “You do know who Einstein is, right?”
The paratrooper suddenly got defensive. “Of course I know who he is,” Delany sniffed. “German scientist. Something about atoms, I think?” he guessed.

Mike’s jaw set in a hard line. “Don’t count on me feeling sorry for them.”
Vargas held up his hand. “Two hours ago, you were fighting for your life. I don’t expect you to just suddenly forget all of that. But from my perspective, that war ended a century ago. Germany and Japan are now some of America’s staunchest allies.”
“In your time,” Amélie emphasized.
He took a moment to process all of that. “Well, I appreciate the history lesson. Good to know that we won the war. But what’s any of it got to do with these aliens we’re supposed to be fighting?”
“I was just getting to that,” Antonio replied. “The Theory of Relativity says, among other things, that the closer you get to the speed of light, like ninety percent on up, the energy required to accelerate increases exponentially. It’s why nothing can go faster than that, because it would require infinite energy. Which is impossible.”
Amélie leaned in, a wicked smile on her face. “Unless you cheat, as we do.”
“What she means is there are loopholes within the equations we can exploit,” Vargas clarified. “Moving an object in time, such as a human, requires energy. The further you travel, the more it costs, until eventually, you reach a point where you hit a wall. None of us can journey more than two or three centuries from our point of origin, because of the energy cost requirements. After that?” He shrugged. “You simply bounce off an invisible barrier.”
Mike thought about that for a minute. “Then how can you possibly know what’s happening in the far future?” he asked.
“Way stations,” the Frenchwoman supplied. “Picture a series of forts, strung along the frontier. While we cannot travel physically to the nearby garrisons, we can signal them. Information can be passed from one to another, up and down the line.”
“Much like the old Pony Express,” Vargas supplied. “It’s not a perfect system, unfortunately. Information can be lost, or garbled. But it’s what we have,” he shrugged.
“So… there’s a series of outposts stretching to the distant past and the far future? Sending signals back and forth, working together against a common enemy?” It was a lot to take in, but Mike felt like he was making sense of it.
“Well… you are half right,” Amélie admitted unhappily. “While there are many such way stations in our future, behind us?” She shook her head. “Que dalle. Nothing.”
Mike stared at her. “I don’t understand.”
“It’s the technology,” Antonio sighed. “It’s simply too complicated for someone born much earlier than the late twentieth century to grasp. Take me, for example,” he said, indicating himself. “I was a combat pilot in the Navy, before I became an astronaut, flying aircraft that would have easily defeated the entire Luftwaffe. I also hold advanced degrees in engineering and physics, but when I look at the schematics sent to us from up time?” He held up his hands in surrender. “I feel like a chimpanzee staring at a P-51.”
“Anton has tutored me for years, and there is still much I do not understand,” Amélie informed him.
“Even if we were talking about a certified genius, someone like Da Vinci, for example, for them to make sense of the information they’d need to recreate all of this?” He spread his arms wide, encompassing the structure surrounding them. “It would be like trying to decipher hieroglyphics. We’ve sent messages to the past, hoping that someone somehow managed the impossible, but we’ve never received a reply.” Vargas sighed in defeat. “Which means we are the last line of defense.”
“The three of us,” Mike said, deadpan. “What the hell are we supposed to do?”
“Our mission is threefold,” the astronaut explained. “First, to detect and counter any temporal incursions by the enemy. Second, to take the fight to the enemy, whenever and wherever possible. And finally, to retrieve those like us, individuals who have become untethered in time, and recruit them to the cause.”
Amélie reached out and took Mike’s hand. “The very future of all humanity is at stake,” she said softly, her dark eyes pleading with him. “You are a soldier, and we need you. Will you help us?”
He was silent for a long time. The others waited, having already made their case. Finally, he looked up at them both. “I can’t go back, can I?” he said quietly.
“No… you cannot,” the Frenchwoman agreed. “You no longer belong to that reality. We can make brief visits to accomplish our mission, but any more than a few days, the timeline will reject you, casting you into the void. Et pouf,” she pantomimed, spreading her fingers wide to suggest a magician making something vanish.
“But… wouldn’t you just return here?” he asked them.
“I’m afraid not,” Vargas disagreed. “Like I said, it requires the energy output of a Tachyon weapon to disconnect you from the timeline. We can create a temporary link that will keep you in place, like a climber’s safety harness. But it doesn’t last long, because the physics of our old timeline are already hard at work unraveling it. If you wait too long…” he shrugged.
“... you fall to your death,” Mike finished for him. The other man nodded somberly in agreement. He took a long draught of his wine, his mind spinning as he struggled to make sense of all he’d learned. In the end, he just shrugged.
“In that case, since I don’t have any choice… I volunteer,” he told them both, plastering on his best counterfeit smile as he held out the empty goblet.
“I could use a refill,” he said wryly.

· The EPIC rarity is only stated in the card description if it is a different value than shown in-game.
· All Star Card descriptions were rewritten to be unilateral and have similar explanations. The names of heroes and second-person pronouns were avoided.
· Clearer antonyms are used: increased/decreased; extended/reduced.
o Increase/decrease suggests a progression in size, amount, or numbers (like adding/subtracting health, damage, stamina drain, and sprint speed).
o Extend/reduce suggests a change made to a value or number (like percentages for time, distance, and blaster heat).
· Damage Reduction is received; health points are regained.
· To avoid confusion, the term increased cooldown speed and increased recharge time (which uses percentage increased) is avoided. To keep all related effects as close in description as possible: extended/reduced cooldown time (still percentage) is the simplest way to describe the effect without changing the in-game number values.
· Extra damage is damage added to ability; bonus damage is situational.
· Some values were rounded to whole numbers to reflect in-game values. Such are health points, damage points, and blaster overheat. As a result, though noticeably small, the actual values in-game may be a little off when it comes to stacked values (like stacking damage reduction) and are yet to be tested.
· Some stats between the BF2 wiki and SammyBoiii’s Hero Guides differ in stats; however, they agree for the most part and usually differ by units less than a second.
· Feel free to pick any hero and test out the stats yourself. The more accurate stats we have, the better we can use them.
· Question Marks are unknown values. If you happen to know them or calculate the value, feel free to share them. Video proof seems to always work best.
· I personally feel that being open to the intricacies of every star card and ability is the best way to go and should not be considered an exploit. Everyone should know what’s happening when the enemy team starts using these game-changers (and there are many people who do), and best enabling them to learn how to counter it. In the end, understanding these little details leads to a more competitive and playable battlefront.
· Although not too often, some of the supposed up-to-date references below contradict each other; I had to make a final choice without having the time to test them.
· Getting all these stats was a hard-earned headache in the end. Feel free to correct any discrepancies you may find!

2024.05.17 11:24 SavvySillybug Gonna be building an office grade computer out of used parts. Thinking i5-8600K would be good, any opinions?

I went through the official Windows 11 support list and it seems to start at 8th gen for Intel, and that i5 is basically identical to the i7 minus hyperthreading... and realistically, it's gonna do office work, six cores is plenty, don't need 12 threads. For gaming maybe, but it's not gonna be gaming.
The exact specs of the rest of the machine are mostly going to come down to the deals I find locally here in Germany, I'll take anything above 16GB with whatever motherboard it comes on, and mix and match with whatever parts until I have a computer. Probably throw in a fresh SSD as most sellers rightfully remove their SSD when selling the machine.
So I guess my main question here is, are there any significantly better options to look for than the i5-8600K? I'm seeing the chip by itself for 55€ and whole computers for 240-270€ (that's 60, 260 and 292 US dollars respectively).
I'd just use old parts to build something out of scrap, but the best CPU I got on hand is an old a10-7890k... so uhh no thanks, I'd rather spend a little money than use a pre-Ryzen AMD CPU.
Windows 11 compatibility is important as I don't want any janky software workarounds for future troubles. On my personal machine sure, but I'd like this thing to just work.
I'll also need a monitor, any help finding a good used monitor beyond just "entering 1080p into the search bar" would be appreciated. Or even a cheap new one, really. The rest of the peripherals I'll scrounge up myself.
