2024.05.18 23:11 helioboros How to change the name of a character on your server.

How to change the name of a character on your server.
Disclaimer: I'm using this walkthrough, just hoping to clarify terms and how it works / what is necessary in order to properly package your file. u/weasel1453 you are a proper legend for figuring this out in the first place and I'm deeply appreciative. This is just my effort to lay it out in as simple terms as possible.
To start with, you'll want to back up your server's files. Multiple times. Be thorough. Messing up here will wipe what you have, and frankly I had a big scare where I thought I'd lost everything. If you're using Gportal for a dedicated server use their manual backup to be able to easily and completely restore what you've got. It saved my ass.
If you are using Gportal to host your server, you really need to get something like FileZilla or another FTP client. Instructions and download links are found here. You'll find all the information you need for connecting on the Status page, and everything copies with a simple click - IP, Port, etc. You could use the online file manager, but I find it to be much too slow to be worth it, when FTP will let you manage your files much more quickly and efficiently.
To modify .SAVE files, you will need a hex editor. I use HxD, which you can find here.
To re-zip the file afterward, you'll need a zipping software that can convert into .gz. I use 7zip, which you can find here.
Once you've handled that, get your latest save or autosave: it'll be nested somewhere like save-data/saves/v3/(world name: mine is 'dedicated'). You should see a list of .save zipped folders, as well as ServerGameSettings.json, SessionId.json, and StartDate.json. Here's what it looks like hosted on Gportal:
A screenshot of Gportal's file manager, in the save file folder.
And what it would look like on FileZilla:
A screenshot of FileZilla, showing the folder hierarchy as well as a list of autosave zips, but cut off at the top to avoid showing FTP server information and password.
Download your most recent save, unless you're hosting it on your computer - in which case just copy it elsewhere for your backup, then extract it.
You'll be left with a .SAVE file in the extracted folder. Open that with HxD.
A screenshot of the top of the .save file, in HxD.
It'll look intimidating at first. Just ctrl+f or hit 'search' at the top to search for the name you want to replace. (You'll likely find multiple instances of it; I don't know what determines how often the name occurs.) Keep your search in the text-string tab (default, the far left one) and hit 'All' on search direction.
Say here we want to replace 'Agape'.
A screenshot of hex code, highlighting the name 'Agape' and the hexadecimal to which it corresponds to on the left. Above and below are the names of other characters in the server - Megara and Dina.
If I wanted to change it into a name with the same number of letters, that would be easy; Raven, for instance, would only need me to replace the letters of Agape. As you type, the new letters will replace the ones that are already there (don't worry about the 00 bits after the name, they appear to be spacing in the data), as well as changing the hex to the left to match, making the process neat and tidy.
If you want to change the number of letters in the name, that's a bit more complicated. Let's replace Megara with Meg, if she's feeling like nicknames.
The bit that comes in the second space before the name refers to the number of letters in the name. You'll need to replace it with the proper hexadecimal - which is fairly straightforward between numbers 1-9, and then 10 is 0A and so on. Here is a hexadecimal converter.
A screenshot of the hexadecimal for 'Megara', preceded by the bit indicating the length of her name.
To change her name from Megara to Meg, you want to change the 06 to a 03 to reflect the number of letters in her name, and then change the letters you've removed to 00.
A screenshot of the hexadecimal for 'Meg' as well as the plaintext to the right. Altered bits are in red, and the name itself is highlighted to bring attention to it.
Alternatively, to lengthen a name, you simply change the preceding bit to indicate its new length and proceed to overwrite the following 00 bits. Here, I am changing the name 'Dina' to 'Xedina'.
A screenshot of the hexadecimal for 'Dina', alongside the rest of the row of bits, and the plaintext to the right. The name itself is highlighted to bring attention to it.
A screenshot of the hexadecimal for 'Xedina', as well as the plaintext to the right, alongside the preceding bits indicating its value. Altered bits and letters are in red.
Once you have every instance of the name you want to alter changed - and search several times, both backwards and forwards, as I've found the search function can be finicky - then you can save your file.
From here, put it into 7zip, and set the archive format to 'gzip'.
A screenshot of the GUI for 7zip; the file 'AutoSave_1925.save.gz' is being imported.
And now you can replace the most recent save file on your server or personal world! You'll have to test from here; I had errors for the first few hours I was trying, until I found that it was the issue of the file zipper I was using before 7zip (I had been using a zip-to-gzip converter) that was corrupting or otherwise making my files incompatible, resulting in my server crashing and giving me this error:
[2024-05-18 02:15:51] Client version: no bootstrapper found [2024-05-18 02:15:51] Loaded store 'install' from 'D:\home\sid_1474979\vRisingLaunch\config\config.vdf' successfully [2024-05-18 02:15:51] Failed to read store 'userlocal' from 'D:\home\sid_1474979\vRisingLaunch\config\localconfig.vdf.tmp'
I am by no means a technical expert, but if anyone else has issues with it, I'll do my best to help!

2024.05.18 22:16 SchrodingersMinou OCD/Health Anxiety resources

This is the text of the helpbot response which can be summoned by the automod on any post by commenting with the word “helpbot.” I’m posting it here to make it easier for new people to find.
Many people use this sub to seek reassurance for their fears. This is not helpful for managing a rabies phobia or obsession. OCD has a helpful page about reassurance-seeking.
Therapy and treatment are crucial to recover from OCD/health anxiety. Please don’t Google anything about bats or rabies but focus on accessing resources and recovering from your fears. You can check out OCD and HealthAnxiety for support and information. You can find a resource list here, which is geared towards relationship OCD but also includes a lot of information about OCD in general, including FAQs, workbooks, book recommendations, Youtube videos, apps, podcasts, and videos of kittens.
Here is a list of free crisis helplines around the world. Here is another crisis helpline directory that includes additional countries. In areas where 211 is available, dialing this number can connect you with mental health crisis services in your area or help you find where to seek immediate help in your area. If you're in the US, you can text "MHA" to 741-741 to have a text chat with a trained crisis counselor at the Crisis Text Line, or call 1-800-749-2673 for the NAMI Crisis Helpline.
You can ask your therapist if they have any workbooks or guides they can send you home with so that you can continue practicing and working on your therapy between sessions. For the time being, here's is a free workbook on anxiety and here is one on health anxiety. You can also download MindShift, a free app that uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy AKA CBT to help you learn to relax and be mindful, develop more effective ways of thinking, and use active steps to take charge of your anxiety.
If you don't have a therapist, you can use Psychology Today's Therapy Directory to search for mental health professionals in your area (worldwide). You can search by zip code, city, last name, etc. For each provider listed, you can read about their therapy approach, specialty areas, information about their fees including whether they accept insurance and whether they offer sliding scale fees. CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) therapy are often recommended approaches for treating OCD/health anxiety.
In the UK, you can find more info and refer yourself for therapy via NHS.
In India, you can call MPower Minds and request a referral to a therapist who treats OCD or who has experience with CBT therapy. Additional affordable mental health resource lists for India are here.
In the Philippines, you can call a crisis line by dialing 0995 356 5332. You can find a list of mental heath treatment centers here. For free mental health services and consultations, see the list here (halfway down the page).
If you're in the US, your local Mental Health America affiliate resource center is an excellent resource for information about local programs and services including affordable treatment services. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Health Information Network (SHIN) has a Mental Health Facilities Locator that can also help you find community outpatient, inpatient and residential treatment facilities, including affordable mental health services in your area.
For peer support in the US, including referrals to resources in your area, you can call 800-950-NAMI (6264), Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. — 10 p.m., ET, or send an email to info@nami.org. The NAMI HelpLine is a free, nationwide peer-support service providing information, resource referrals and support to people living with a mental health condition, their family members and caregivers, mental health providers and the public. NAMI also holds peer-led support groups in person across the US.

2024.05.18 20:10 LongVsShortToenails The CDC is trying to cover up

I'm sure you've all seen the pinned post I made titled, " What's in the dark shall come to light". Well, about a month ago, I made an edit adding a link from the CDC showing how cervical cancer was never the #1 cause of death for women. Yesterday, I felt led to go back to my post and clicked on the CDC link for some reason. I found that the link showing the claim was no longer there. This is the original link I posted which cannot be found: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/vsus/VSUS_1942_1.pdf . The CDC had an extensive library of vital statistics of the United States dating back to the 1800's that have simply... vanished.
You can no longer find these stats on their website. I tried https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data_access/vitalstatsonline.htm and scrolling down to 'Mortality Multiple Cause Files', but their data now only goes back to 1968 and is now in zip format instead of PDF! I cannot open the zip files. I also tried https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/vsus.htm , and if you click on any of the years, none of the information can be found. I am not trying to insinuate a conspiracy.. however, it seems as if someone intentionally deleted 100's of years worth of Vital Statistic data sometime after I added the original link (which no longer works) in my prior post. Thankfully, I downloaded and saved some of the statistics to share. Here's what I had added in my previous post, now with updated link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SuCEYCSQCfkmQXH_1NntSqX1mvfmxbxM/view?usp=drive_link
***scroll down to page 31. Here, we are shown the number of deaths for multiple causes of death, including deaths from cervical cancer in 1941/1942. Notice how it says 16,393 deaths for Cancer of the Uterus? And underneath, cancer of the cervix with 6,493 deaths? Unspecified deaths concerning the uterus were at 9,900 deaths. This is where the "cervical cancer used to be the #1 cause of death" statistic comes from, which is obviously untrue. The CDC then contradicts themselves by reiterating that statement on their website here, when you scroll to the bottom https://www.cdc.gov/hpv/parents/cancer.html#:~:text=11%2C100%20women%20are%20diagnosed%20with,women%20die%20from%20cervical%20cancer .
The data were intentionally misinterpreted by combining all deaths from uterine cancer to make it seem as these deaths were all from cervical cancer. Interesting enough, we see that prostate cancer caused 8k deaths in men, more than deaths from cervical cancer.
Causes of death from breast cancer, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia far surpassed that of cervical cancer, which you will see in the Vital Statistics (although deaths were not separated on basis of sex, we can assume deaths were higher in these categories than in cervical cancer for women).
I have a few more Vital Statistics saved from 1920's through the 1970's. I'm a bit worn out now from trying to transfer the paper to reddit lol, so if anyone wants to see the other statistics as well please reach out. Aside from the doctors I work with, I'm not sure if I can trust the medical community any longer. There's a lot more that we have been misled about than you realize. Take care.

2024.05.18 18:21 RedGindew The Sims: Home Crafter - Windows 11

The Sims: Home Crafter - Windows 11
Hey! I've been playing around with a bunch of Maxis' old tools for The Sims. One I managed to get working nicely was Home Crafter. Below is a tutorial I've written up to hopefully get it working for anyone else wanting to have a go with it!
Home Crafter via Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/SimsArtStudio
What is Home Crafter?
Home Crafter is one of the many tools Maxis created for The Sims in the early 2000s. It's a program which allows you to make custom floors and walls! It’s available to download for free on the Internet Archive. This guide will get it to hopefully work on your PC! I’m testing this on Windows 11.
[ This process is what worked for me, if it doesn’t work for you, try another compatibility mode ]
Section 1: Downloading
  1. Download Home Crafter from the Internet Archive link above!
  2. You will also need a D3DRM.DLL file, this can be found with a quick Google search, normally the first result, this file will bypass one of the errors loading the game.
  3. Extract the Home Crafter ZIP file and place the folder somewhere you’ll remember (I recommend the Desktop)
Section 2: Setup
  1. Drag the D3DRM.DLL file into the Home Crafter folder
  2. Inside the Home Crafter folder, right-click “HomeCrafter.exe” and click Properties
  3. Change these settings:
Right-Click the EXE > Properties > Compatibility
Congratulations! When you open the HomeCrafter.exe, it should open straight up. Like on my system, I got asked if I wanted to allow it to open, because it doesn’t have a publisher in it’s file. Click yes, and it should open up.

2024.05.18 17:43 Sogo_Toyoshige Craft Controller questions concerning plugins

Craft Controller questions concerning plugins
Hello! I've been trying to make a modded Forge Crafty server for 1.20.6 and to share it publicly with my friends with playit.gg . To upload the zip plug in I downloaded I need to upload it to my servers "plugins" folder on the files tab of my server. But to my dismay the plugins folder is not present. (I have my current file listing attached to this post if that is of any use)
https://preview.redd.it/24nxjn78g71d1.png?width=434&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c0979b0f4862f0753aa81eccc9067e3c9b5bb42
My questions include:
Where is my plugins folder?
Is my plugins folder hiding in other folders?
Can I add a folder named "plugins" and have it work?
Did I miss a step when starting the server that caused the server to not have the plugins folder?
What can I do to, that I might have not done already, to make the plugins folder appear?
Is the plugins folder only available on certain server types? (i.e. Paper, Vanilla, Bedrock, etc.)
Lastly,
Can I upload plugins from in-game, or do I have to do it on the server controller that is crafty?
If anyone can help me with the questions above I will be very grateful, and if this helps someone find the answers they need in the future, even better!
Also: I will say now that I did do some research into these questions (or ones like it) to find the solution on my own, but as you can see I was unable to, the wiki sadly isn't all knowing. Not even YouTube was much help.

2024.05.18 13:04 realbabygronk Applying Cheats to Suikoden Tierkreis Undub on DrDrastic

Super niche but I spent a bit figuring this out in order to better the experience so I'm posting this to maybe save someone's time in the future
If you play the US rom, downloading the giant cheat database off of gbatemp does give you the cheats in the cheats database menu, however with an Undub rom no such options appear
If you've gotten your Undub as the already-undubbed ROM off of cdromance (I'm not aware of any other way to get it), you need to manually input the JP cheat codes into the custom cheats interface of drastic (you can tell it's the JP rom with English text pasted cus the main and Nintendo WiFi menus are in japanese
I'm going to paste the codes here (since some of the original codes for no random encounters didn't work) You enter these by adding a cheat in the custom cheat menu, there's a field for the code there and a toggle:
Hold B to run faster
22115511 00000000 94000130 FFFD0000 22115511 00000001 D2000000 00000000
No random encounters (Hold L while walking ingame to activate (no idea how long but I held it for like 25 seconds and it seemed to work from there on) )
0209CE80 E3A00000 94000130 FDFF0000 0209CE80 E3A00096 D0000000 00000000
I'm only using these QoL codes so I've not included the OP codes but if you're interested in those then they're in the JP rom cheat list (open with jusrcheat.apk)
I'm also aware there's a bespoke usrcheat.dat file that claims to include the suikoden tierkreis Undub in it that comes up on Google but I had no luck with the file or the codes inside it, it does have the JP codes tho and is only 9mb compared 50mb mega database file if data usage is an issue
I thought about packing the Undub rom, .dat with the JP codes and jusrcheat.apk into a zip and uploading it as a lil package but there will probably be only a single person in the next 10 years to have the same problem so meh

2024.05.18 10:38 purplerock22 How safe are "Premium Link"-generators

I want to download a premium only file from keep2share. After researching an trying in vain some shared premium accounts I bumped into several sites that offered to generate a premium link that let's me download the desired file.
Sites like... keep2share.download/ maxdebrid.com/keep2share
Tried them out and fair enough it generated a download link for me. What got me suspscious though is that it's supposed to be downloading a zip-file but it's currently downloading it as an mp4. The file size is correct but that's easy to spoof.
So... before I go any further: is this legit? Or are these particular sites scam? Are the legit ones out there?
Thanks for the help!

[FNV] Help with Vanilla UI+ with Mod Organizer 2
Hello All,
I wanted to install Begin Again - TTW, but in the tutorial document it explicitly states that Fallout NV from Steam should be installed.
As my Fallout copies are from GoG and I can't have Steam on this computer (because of reasons), I am using MO2 to manually install all recommended mods for TTW (from The Best of Times guide).
Now, I am going through the list of modes from Begin Again, checking which mods are interesting and relevant, and manually installing it from NexusMods using MO2.
But I am having trouble with Vanilla UI Plus (that can only be downloaded from moddb). I downloaded the zip file, use MO2 option to manually create a mod and select the file. The installation cannot complete as I get an error that "The content of does not look valid".
And indeed, this is different from folder structure of other mods I have downloaded from NexusMods with MO2.
Anyone else had similar issues?

2024.05.18 00:58 GimD GTAV - Not Launching DLL Error 0xc000007b [SOLVED 2024]

Hello everyone, I just grabbed a cup of coffe for this one, and will try to detail as much information as I recall/remember for this.
- About the problem: Was running GTAV and GTA Online with total of ZERO problems on an old PC with Windows 11.
Couple of weeks ago I've got a new rig with Intel 14th, DDR5, bla bla bla... and run a clean install for W11.
The problem started with the game not opening at all, steam buttons changing and gettinng back to play, an if you do this with steam and Rockstar Game Launcher opened you will see button changing on both apps and getting back to PLAY.
Relevant information that I've found when trying to solve this is that new W11 come with DirectX 12 built on it, and you cannot make any uninstall/repaietc... and with this you get so many errors, like Rockstar Game Launcher not launching, Social Club also crashes, and the game itself requesting DLLs or error: 0xc000007b
EVEN Microsoft and other people telling that the DirectX 12 come with others version built on it. Ok this is true but Rockstar and GTAV does not give a F about that.
- The FIX: Well I've tried so much stuff that I saw here on reddit, google, rockstar fóruns, youtube. Below you can find what I've tried and what worked for me. Try the things in order, see the recommendations first.
- The golden rule: TROUBLESHOOT FIRST! Yes, go easy on this, troubleshoot every error at a time, don't rush to the end.
- Recommendations:
PROBLEM: Rockstar Game Launcher not opening
For this problem what worked for me was following these steps: Disabling Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)
  1. Open the Windows Security shortcut from the Windows Start menu
  2. Click App & browser control
  3. Scroll down to Exploit protection and click Exploit protection settings
  4. Click Program settings
  5. Click + Add program to customize
  6. Click Choose exact file path and locate the Rockstar Games Launcher
    • By default, this is located at C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher
  7. Click Launcher.exe and click Open
  8. Scroll down until you see Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR) and check the Override system settings checkbox.
  9. Toggle the On slider to Off
  10. Click Apply
  11. Repeat steps 6-10 but with the Social Club installer located at: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher\Redistributables\Social Club\Social-Club-Setup.exe
  12. Go to the folder C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher
  13. Click on properties for Launcher.exe and LauncherPatcher.exe go to compability check RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR;
  14. Do step 13 for the SocialClubHelper.exe on C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club
  15. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher
  1. Open GTAV from where you have it installed (whether it be Steam or the Rockstar Games Launcher)
If Rockstar Game Launcher now OPENS but when you try to open the game the problem persists, KEEP READING:
At this point, things that you COULD try but DID NOT WORKED for me:
KEEP READING:
After the major step above, the Rockstar Game Launcher was solved, but game was getting errors like d3dcompiler_43.dll and d3dx9_43.dll
Here I solved by manually overwriting these files with new ones, but then the 0xc000007b started, KEEP READING because the next solution will also sove the dlls problem.
PROBLEM: DLL Error or 0xc000007b
  1. Get the required DLLs;
  2. Get Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes AIO Repack 0.82.0;
  3. Get DirectX last version installer;
  4. Overwrite all dlls files at C:/Windows/System32 with those inside the .zip;
  5. Run C++ AIO Repack, install wait to finish;
  6. Run DirectX last version, here probably you will get the message that there is the same or newer version already installed, ignore it;
  7. Try to run the game; Here is the time for success;
Hope this helps all of you;
If you are lazy at reading or found to much english errors on my writing, this is for you: I've zipped all the needed files for the fix and will let a video below explaing what to do;
That's all folks.

2024.05.18 00:30 DrFreako007 Built a new PC, no internet, can't install drivers

UPDATE/SOLVED: my windows was on version 10.0 (Build 10240) after installing from a windows flash drive i bought in 2015. This would seem to have been the primary issue as after creating a new windows install from the windows creation tool on my laptop running up-to-date windows and installing that i now have mostly functioning drivers and access to the internet. Thanks to everyone who came with suggestions, I would not have thought the windows version would have been an issue so i would have been well and thoroughly stuck.
I will leave the post as is in case it might someone else.
Original post:
I am desperately looking for some sort of explanation or help with my issue...
I finished my build three days ago (windows 10 home, Gigabyte Z790 aorus X wifi7 1.0, intel i7 14700KF, Asus GeForce 4080 Super, 2x 16gb G.Skill DDR5 ripjaws and M.2 ssd) but i noticed that i was lacking access to the internet, both WIFI and Ethernet. I thought that it would be an easy thing to solve, just go to gigabytes website on my laptop, download the driverrs for my mobo, transfer them to a stick and then just drop them in my new build and run them but so was not the case... when i extract and run (as administrator) the .EXE files from the zips i download from gigabyte a gigabyte driver installer pops up and a loading bar of some sort pops up for a short while and then disappears... but nothing has changed. i would try this with the other drivers on their support page and sometimes a window would pop up sking if the program ran properly and then will try and troublleshoot but at the end of the day, seemingly nothing is installed as everything remains the same. If i could only get internet access then i could at least get some windows updates to run and maybe that would solve some of my issues but that would require me getting access to the internet and even then there are no guarentees that it will solve my problems... I gladly accept any and all sugestions as i am completely out of ideas. I have built a PC before so this is not my first rodeo but it was many years ago and, to my memory, at least internet worked from the start and everything just kinda followed along.
TL:DR, new build, trying to install drivers from gigabyte but nothing happens when i run them.

2024.05.17 23:18 SnooCats5701 How To Improve Method of Processing Event Registrations (And Other Things)

As most of you likely know, GenCon’s method of processing event registrations and handling other things is archaic, unfair, burdensome, and illogical. Below, I describe current issues and I propose changes to solve those issues in the future.
Feedback is welcome so I can refine and submit it to GenCon!
EDIT TO ADD A TL;DR:
TL;DR;
1) Currently, everyone submits their wishlist at the exact same instant and the system gives the first person to submit everything they want and gives people who clicked submit a few milliseconds later nothing. This makes your prioritization almost meaningless except for resolving time conflicts and it makes ticket distribution extremely unfair to those who planned carefully and submitted at the same second. GenCon should switch to submitting lists prior to a certain time and then have the computer do a snake draft based on your preferences once the submission deadline passes.
2) Fix the friend system.
3) Stop hiding the event spreadsheet link.
DETAILS TO PROPOSE TO GENCON:
1) Event Registration
Currently, users build an ordered list of Preferred Events (PEs). The user’s most important PE is listed as #1. The second most important PE is #2, etc. Users may have up to 50 events on their wish list. Then, on the designated day, all users who want a chance to get a ticket for one or more events in which they are interested must be logged into the GenCon website and click “submit” at 12:00 noon in a race to submit their wish lists. The process that GenCon follows for granting ticket requests after this point is not published anywhere on GenCon’s site as far as I can tell, but personal experience and stories from the internet mean we can reverse engineer their system. If I am wrong about this, PLEASE let me know!
  1. The system processes each wish list, completely, in the order they are received.
  2. When processing a single wish list, the system processes each PE in order of the user’s ranking (#1 is processed 1st, #2 second, etc.) When processing a PE, the system checks to see if a) there are tickets available; and b) if the time of the PE does not conflict with the timing of any prior PEs on this wish list for which the user was already granted tickets. If there are tickets available and the timing of the event does not conflict with any previously granted tickets, the system grants tickets to this event. If there are no tickets remaining or if the timing conflicts with a prior PE for which tickets were granted, the system does not grant any tickets for the PE in question.
  3. Once the system has performed the above process for each PE on a wish list, it moves on to the next wish list until all wish lists are processed.
This means that the 1st person lucky enough to click “submit” the millisecond registration opens will get all of their PEs while people who submitted at the same time but were milliseconds later may not get any tickets.
EXAMPLE: If 50 people simultaneously submit identical wish lists, each with the same 50 non-time-conflicted PEs, and all PEs have 10 tickets available, the first 10 users get tickets for all of the PEs and the remaining 40 users get zero tickets to any of the 50 PEs.
This means people are stressing out to win an unwinnable and rigged race. A better system would evenly and randomly award tickets based on ranking. How would such a system work? I am glad you asked!
THE FIX
The following procedures would fix this issue:
  1. Users must submit their finalized and prioritized wish lists PRIOR to the submission deadline.
  2. Once the deadline has passed, no users may submit wish lists.
  3. Once the deadline has passed, the system processes all wish lists as follows:
    1. The system ranks submitted wish lists in a random order. E.g., with 50 wish lists, they will be ranked #1 through #50.
    2. The system starts by processing with wish list #1.
    3. The system reviews the current wish list and grants tickets to that user for ONE PE. It picks the PE the user ranked highest priority for which:
      1. there are tickets available; and
      2. the PE timing does not conflict with the timing of any PEs for which the user was already granted tickets,
    4. If the system was unable to grant any tickets to a PE on the wish list either because:
      1. all remaining unfulfilled PEs conflict with previously granted tickets; or
      2. because there are no more unprocessed PEs on the wish list; THEN the wish list is marked as completed.
    5. The system then moves to the next incomplete wish list.
    6. The system repeats steps 3.3 - 3.5 until it has processed the lowest ranked wish list.
    7. The system then repeated steps 3.3 – 3.6 but in reverse wish list priority order.
    8. The system continues processing ONE PE per wish list in “snake draft” order until all wish lists are marked as complete.
Essentially this means that the first user gets their 1st choice of PE, but then the system moves on to the next user and grants them the best PE they can. When it has given tickets to ONE PE to each wish list, it then goes through the wish lists again, but in reverse order. This looping process continues until al wish lists have been processed.
EXAMPLE:
Same as above, assume 50 people simultaneously submit identical wish lists, each with the same 50 non-time-conflicted PEs, and all PEs have 10 tickets available.
Under the current system, the first 10 users get tickets for all of the PEs and the remaining 40 users get zero tickets to any of the 50 PEs.
Under my proposed system, the software would perform one pass through the user lists and assign the following:
Then the system would then reverse the direction and do the following in the next pass:
This would continue until all tickets were distributed.
Under the old system, the distribution is as follows:
Under my system, the distribution is as follows:
This is obviously a simplified set of conditions, but the core premise holds:
  1. Allow users to submit lists prior to a deadline.
  2. After the deadline, execute a fair lottery-based distribution of tickets that maximizes the chances of people getting something off of their list.
How they have not done this yet is beyond me!
2) Unilateral Friending
GenCon allows users to “friend” other registered users. To add a friend, you enter in the friend’s email address. The second user receives an email notifying them of the friend request. When the second user clicks an “accept friend request” button the second user is now listed as a friend of the first user in the first user’s UI. However, the first user is NOT listed as a friend of the second user in the second user’s UI. This means the second user must go to the GenCon friend UI and enter the first user’s email address to send the first user a separate friend request. If the user doesn’t do this, either because they don’t remember to or because they never thought they had to (because the rest of the internet has bilateral friend requests) then they never have the first user added as a friend.
THE FIX: When a user accepts the friend invite, they should both be friends of each other.
3) Downloading the Event Database Is Hidden From Users
Users may currently download an excel spreadsheet of the event database. This allows users to create their own filters and sorts and is a popular way to put together an ideal schedule for oneself. Importantly, the link to download it is NOT on the same page where users perform their searches. The FAQ for events does not tell users where to find the link to download the spreadsheet. Instead, users need to know to do the following to find it:
1) Visit GenCon.com
2) Click on “GenCon Indy” image
3) Choose the “Attendee Info” menu item
4) Click on “How Events Work”
5) Scroll down to the “How Do I Find Events” section
6) Click on the “How to Find Events” link
7) Scroll down to the “Downloading The Event Catalog” section
8) Click on the link to download the xlsx or zip file.
Additionally, the “Downloading the Event Catalog” section states that “A complete list of downloadable files will also be available on the Gen Con Forums,” where “GenCon Forums” is a hyperlink. However, clicking on that hyperlink takes the users to the home page of the forums where they see general forum categories, none of which discuss downloadable files. I explored each forum category and none of them have any pinned threads that discuss downloadable files in their titles.
I do not know why GenCon is hiding this.
THE FIX: Put a link for these files on the event search page.

2024.05.17 22:25 merlinmonad Pro's how are you backing up your middleware projects?

I'm currently trying to set up a redundancy for my FMOD project. I'm the sole audio designer on a (relatively large team 20+ people) project but I am the only one who needs regular access as only banks are pushed to the Unity project Git. However, if the situation arises where we need to modify something if/when I am unavailable we need a very reliable, secure and straightforward way for team members to do this.
Thus far I have been working on doing this via Google Drive, I designed a workflow guiding the user through the steps required to access, download and setup the project in order that they can make a small change, build banks and push the bank updates to a test branch of our git repo. Whilst validating this workflow I ran into a number of issues.
1.) With the Drive download the project was split into multiple zip files (project is currently 10GB)
2.) Couldn't get Drive for Desktop to work copying to my local as a single folder. It would just hang and give me an operation can't be completed due to XXX already exists. So gave up trying to do this at least on my test machine for now.
3.) Uncompressing all the zips into a single FMOD project folder matching the correct file and folder structure, I opened the project and ran into "objects in invalid state" issues in FMOD
Repairing these and building banks led to duplicate file errors, lots of couldn't find XX bank red errors in Unity and the Event Ref updater found multiple changed event path indicative of missing XML files from the metadata. These files were not missing and their relative paths unchanged.
I'm a bit lost now. I've always got the option of Git, however there is no guarantee that this will not give me the same issues. Not to mention all the other potential issues we can run into with merge conflicts etc.
How are others doing this?
TLDR: How can I back up my FMOD project so that a colleague can perform a fix in the most straightforward and least error prone way?

Issue: AVI files too big, can't load them anywhere to edit them or compress them. I need a way to get them off the memory card and into a program where I can stitch them into a longer video along with sound editing. (Like WeVideo)
Background: I've recorded a school show for my school with two digital cameras and using a microphone to record better sound. The files from the camera saved as AVI, maximum 4GB in size. The sound file was made on an iPad.
Steps taken:
I really don't want to purchase anything if I can help it.

2024.05.17 19:03 Selgald Remember: The game has sound mods that improve the game a lot

I noticed that the sound mods of the game barely have any downloads, but they improve the atmosphere of the game SO MUCH.
First go here: https://sandbox.enlisted.net/feed/sound/ and download your pack of choosing, I like "Bigote Sound Modpack v2.0" the most. Download the ZIP File.
Go to your Enlisted folder, (for example): C:\Enlisted\sound and there create a folder named "mod" extract the stuff from the Zip file into the mod folder (don't create subfolders in the mod folder).
Now go into the Enlisted root folder C:\Enlisted and open the file "enlisted.config.blk" (you may not see the .blk, dont worry about it) and open it with a text editor, scroll down to the "sound" section and add the line "enableMod:b=yes", save the file and you are done, enjoy!
Example:
sound{ enableMod:b=yes battle_music_enabled:b=no
output_device{ name:t="Lautsprecher (JDS Labs Element III)" id:i=0 rate:i=48000 }
It is official supported by the devs, so don't worry about AC.

2024.05.17 17:37 saabstory88 A1111 Can't install new models

I followed the instructions for installing the web UI via their github page.
Installation on Windows 10/11 with NVidia-GPUs using release package
Download sd.webui.zip from v1.0.0-pre and extract its contents.
Run update.bat.
Run run.bat.
This all worked fine, and I can generate images. I found a guide for installing new models, but the directory structure looks completely different. I have confirmed that the git repo version does not run on my computer. Is there anyway to install new models into the simple release package?

2024.05.17 15:56 CISO_Series_Producer Top cybersecurity stories for the week of 05-13-24 to 05-17-24

Below are some of the stories we’ve been reporting this week on Cyber Security Headlines.
If you’d like to watch and participate in a discussion about them, the CISO Series does a live 20-minute show every Friday at 12:30pm PT/3:30pm ET. Each week we welcome a different cyber practitioner to offer some color to the week's stories. Our guest this week is Ryan Bachman, evp and global CISO, GM Financial.
To get involved you can watch live and participate in the discussion on YouTube Live https://youtube.com/live/3XI0UxGnFyM or you can subscribe to the Cyber Security Headlines podcast and get it into your feed.
Here are the stories we plan to cover, time permitting:
Okta’s security chief speaks out An interesting interview with Okta Chief Security Officer David Bradbury in Recorded Future News last week. Speaking to Jonathan Grieg, Bradbury highlighted the fact that identity-based attacks are shifting from pre-authentication, coming after your password, to post-authentication, in which threat actors bypass the login page and go straight to stealing a browser’s session token cookie. Bradbury also advised companies to maximize their transparency efforts during an attack – based in part on Okta’s own recent experiences, as well as to be aware of the improvements in the quality of attack techniques such as correctly spelled phishing emails and pitch-perfect deepfake voice messaging thanks to AI. (The Record)
Volt Typhoon demonstrates a new form of tradecraft in cyberthreats, say Feds Speaking at RSA last week, Eric Goldstein, CISA’s executive assistant director for cybersecurity told reporters that the techniques practiced by Volt Typhoon represent a sinister new level of cyberthreat that has permanently altered the landscape. Referring to China specifically he said, “if the end goal objective is to have placement and access to the United States for an attack at the time of their choosing, they’re probably going to continue that path” pointing out the desire “to compromise insecure or end-of-life devices to then pivot into more sensitive networks.” These comments are in line with a report issued in February by the U.S. and its allies which showed that the group has maintained access and other footholds in victim networks for “at least” the last five years “Volt Typhoon is not over,” the NSA’s Dave Luber added. (The Record)
FBI seizes BreachForums On the morning of March 15th, the US FBI announced its seizure of the illicit clear-net hacking forum as well as its Telegram channel, updating the BreachForums homepage with a takedown notice. It also said it obtained and began reviewing the site’s backend data. The FBI sent a Telegram message from BreachForum’s admin Baphomet, but its unclear if it arrested the individual operating the account. BreachForums began operation in March 2022, leaking stolen data from Europol, AT&T, 23andMe, HPE, Home Depot, and many other breaches. (Bleeping Computer)
Google to use GenAI to help identify phone scams At the Google I/O 2024 developer conference on Tuesday, Google previewed a Generative AI-driven feature that will alert users to potential phone scams in real-time. The feature will be built into a future version of Android and will use Gemini Nano, which can run entirely on-device. The system effectively listens for “conversation patterns commonly associated with scams” such as fraudsters claiming to be bank representatives, offering gift cards or making requests for passwords. When a potential scam is detected, a pop up notification will alert the user that they may be falling prey to unsavory characters. No specific release date has been set for the feature. (TechCrunch)
Security flaws discovered in GE Ultrasound machines Researchers from Nozomi Networks have discovered 11 flaws in the Vivid T9 Ultrasound series of products, including its pre-installed Common Service Desktop web application. These flaws could result in the installation of malware, manipulation of patient data, and could also affect a software program called EchoPAC, installed on a doctor's Windows workstation to access the ultrasound images. According to Nozomi, successful exploitation of these flaws does require prior access to the hospital environment through stolen VPN credentials or physical insertion of an infected USB device. Advisories from GE state that existing mitigations and controls reduce the risks posed by these flaws to acceptable levels, and “in the unlikely event a malicious actor with physical access could render the device unusable, there would be clear indicators of this to the intended user of the device." it noted,"the vulnerability can only be exploited by someone with direct, physical access to the device." Crypto heist by MIT grads nets $25M in 12 seconds, shakes the foundations of blockchain This has all the makings of a classic heist movie: two brothers who were educated in mathematics and computer science at MIT, then plotted for months to steal $25 million in Ethereum cryptocurrency, which they did in just 12 seconds. They achieved this by “by fraudulently gaining access to pending private transactions and then altering the transactions to obtain their victims' cryptocurrency.” This is now being referred to as “The Exploit” by prosecutors and others at the Department of Justice and the IRS. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement on Wednesday, "the defendants' scheme calls the very integrity of the blockchain into question." (BBC News)
Black Basta weaponizes Quick Assist Microsoft began tracking a social engineering campaign, which sees Black Basta operatives email bombing targets with numerous email subscription services, then approaching them as a either Microsoft or company-based help desk staff to fix spam proliferation. In this approach, the attackers attempt to get victims to launch Windows Quick Assist, which allows for a subsequent downloading of ZIP files to deliver a malicious payload. Ultimately the approach attempts to deploy Black Basta’s ransomware using the Windows PSExec telnet-replacement tool. Microsoft recommends blocking or uninstalling Quick Assist if not regularly used. MITRE releases threat-modeling framework for embedded devices The MITRE Corporation has officially released a new threat-modeling framework named EMB3D. According to MITRE, this framework was designed to enhance the security of embedded devices in critical infrastructure by providing a comprehensive knowledge base of cyber threats and mitigation strategies. Similar to the ATT&CK framework, EMB3D is designed to evolve over time to address emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and attack vectors specific to embedded systems. The initial release of the framework includes the device properties and threats enumerations. The full set of mitigations is expected to be released in the summer 2024 update. 2024.05.17 15:46 sonnycrockett999 Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 8.7 SM-X110 + SM-X115 etc - Root Guide

These are the steps that worked for me to achieve root on the SM-X110 in the EU My original post on XDA: https://xdaforums.com/t/samsung-galaxy-tab-a9-8-7-sm-x110-sm-x115-etc-basic-root-guide.4672259/
PREP: - Update Tablet as far as it will go - Update Windows 10/11 software and drivers
PART 1 - TABLET 1. Boot tablet and go to settings -> about tablet -> software information -> tap on "build number" 5 times to enable developer options 2. Go back to settings and scroll down to new "developer settings" option at the very bottom. 3. Enable OEM unlocking and enable ADB debugging 4. Turn off tablet 5. When tablet is off, hold volume UP + DOWN whilst inserting the charging cable connected to your PC 6. Long press Volume up to enable device unlock 7. Device will reboot 8. Set up device again 9. Download and install Magisk onto tablet - https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
PART 2 - WINDOWS PC 1. On a windows PC download the samsung USB drivers - https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver 2. Ensure your PC can detect and mount the tablet 3. Download Patched Odin 1.13.1B Patched and install - https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-odin-3-13-1.3762572/ 4. Download 7zip and install - https://7-zip.org/ 5. Download LZ4 https://github.com/lz4/lz4/releases and extract to a folder named appropriately 6. Download firmware for your phone, I could only find the EUX firmware using BiFrost - https://github.com/zacharee/SamloaderKotlin - It will require you to input the Serial/IMEI number of your device to verify. This is a security feature implemented by Samsung in late 2023 I believe. 7. Extract the firmware file (using 7zip) resulting in 4 x files (AP, BL, CSC, HOME) 8. Click the AP file file and extract that (using 7zip) 9. From the newly extract files, copy and paste boot.img.lz4 and Vbmeta.img.lz4 into the folder you you extracted the LZ4 software to. 10. Drag and drop the boot.lz4 file into to the lz4.exe icon, it will create a boot.img file. 11. Copy and paste the boot.img.and Vbmeta.img file onto your Tablet (download folder usually)
PART 3 - BACK TO TABLET 1. Open Magisk App 2. Click install at the top 3. Navigate to the boot.img and Vbmeta.img file and select the boot.img file 4. Wait for the process to complete and a new patched .img file inside the same folder you opened the boot.img file from. 5. Copy and Paste the new patched file and Vbmeta back to Windows PC
PART 4 - BACK TO WINDOWS PC 1. Open 7zip and drag/drop the patched .img file in 2. Create a .tar archive usin the .img file using 7zip 3. After you get a new boot.tar, Drag the Vbmeta. img into boot.tar. 4. Since we can't use TWRP, we have to use Odin to flash the patched boot.tar 5. Launch Odin 6. On tablet hold Volume UP+DOWN and instert cable connected to PC 7. Odin should display "ADDED!". If not, re-install Samsung Drivers / Reboot PC. 8. In the AP section, select your patched boot.tar 9. If you are using the WiFI only mode, skip mounting the CP. If you have the 4G model, mount the CP from the originally extracted firmware download 10. Mount the BL and CSC from the originally extracted firmware download 11. Under "Options" in Odin, de-select "Auto Reboot" 12. Click "Start"
PART 5 - BACK TO TABLET 1. Press the Volume DOWN + Power button to exit Download 2. Immediately Press the Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power buttons as soon as the screen goes off. This boots into recovery mode 3. Go to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and Select Yes to wipe data 4. Reboot phone 5. Magisk should now displayed that it's installed and you can now install modules.
Thanks, hope this helps!
