2024.06.01 22:40 biomechanist [WTS] Decants from Amouage, Louis Vuitton, Xerjoff, MFK, Les Indemodables, Histoires de Parfums, Le Labo, Mind Games, Profumum Roma, Roja, and more (Decant)

I've accrued more juice than I'll ever use, so I hope that I can share some of it. I haven't seen several of these bottles decanted by others, in part since some of my bottles are not sold in North America (e.g., Les Folies du Parfum) or are very expensive here (e.g., Note di Profumum).
I dropped the prices since last time!
NEW: Smoulder by ATH, Lyric Man by Amouage (arrives Mon), Austin by City Rhythm (arrives Mon), The Moon by Frederic Malle, Les Sables Roses by LV (arrives Mon), Montabaco Intensivo by Ormande Jayne (arrives Mon), and Ambra Aurea by Profumum Roma
All decants will be pulled using a syringe. I use glass atomizers, which will be sealed using teflon tape and labeled (example). If you're interested in larger sizes (5 or 10 mL), let me know.
I'll take PayPal FF, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, and Apple Pay. If the total is < $30, add $4.50 for shipping or round up the total to $30—whichever is cheaper (CONUS).
If you buy multiple, I'll take 2% off the total for each additional item! For example, if you buy 3 items, you'll receive 4% off the "naïve" total; if you buy 4, you'll receive 6% off the total; and so on, for a maximum of 30% off (final price = (original price)*max(0.7,1−0.02*(n−1)) for n decants).
(I realize the pricing structure appears strange—there's a method to my madness 🙃. That said, I am open to feedback.)

2024.06.01 03:08 Jenson-ecigs How are Vape Kits and E-cigarettes Different?

Welcome, vaping enthusiasts! Have you ever found yourself pondering the differences between vape kits and e-cigarettes? Both are staples in the world of vaping, but they cater to distinct needs and preferences within the vaping community. Whether you're a newcomer trying to make an informed purchase or a seasoned vaper looking to deepen your knowledge, understanding these differences can significantly enhance your vaping journey.
Let's dive into a detailed exploration of vape kits and e-cigarettes, designed to clear up any confusion and help you make the best choice for your vaping lifestyle.

What are Vape Kits?

Vape kits, commonly referred to as "mod kits," are complete systems that consist of all the necessary elements for a personalized vaping experience. These kits usually contain a mod, which serves as the device's primary body for powering, a tank for containing the e-liquid, coils to heat the liquid, and a range of customizable features enabling you to modify wattage, temperature, and other aspects according to your vaping style.

What are E-cigarettes?

E-cigarettes are typically sleek, compact devices designed to mimic the traditional smoking experience in a digital format. Often referred to as "cig-a-likes," these devices are usually straightforward in design, featuring a battery and a cartridge (or "pod") that contains the e-liquid and a built-in coil.

Key Differences in Components

The most notable difference between vape kits and e-cigarettes is in their components. Vape kits are characterized by their modularity and versatility, offering various interchangeable parts such as tanks, coils, and batteries. On the other hand, e-cigarettes often have fewer components and feature a more integrated design, which can limit customization but enhance simplicity.

Performance: Vape Kits vs. E-cigarettes

In terms of performance, vape kits generally provide a more robust and intense vaping experience. They can produce more giant vapor clouds and more pronounced flavors, catering to those who enjoy cloud chasing or flavor experimentation. E-cigarettes, however, are often designed for convenience and portability, focusing on delivering a consistent, moderate vapor output that closely replicates the act of smoking.

Customization Opportunities

Customization is a significant draw for many vapers. Vape kits allow users to swap out almost every part of the device - from the tank style to the coil type and even the software that controls the device's operations. E-cigarettes, in contrast, offer minimal customization, typically restricted to flavor choices and, in some cases, nicotine strength.

Ease of Use

E-cigarettes might be more appealing for those new to vaping or looking for a straightforward experience. Their ease of use is a big selling point: just charge the device, replace the pod when needed, and you’re ready to go. Vape kits require more knowledge to manage settings and component replacements effectively.

Battery Life and Maintenance

Battery life also plays a crucial role in choosing between a vape kit and an e-cigarette. Vape kits often have larger, more powerful batteries to support their enhanced capabilities, which means longer usage times but also a need for regular maintenance. E-cigarettes are generally less demanding, with smaller batteries that are easier to charge and maintain.

Price Comparison

Considering the price, e-cigarettes are usually less expensive upfront than vape kits. However, the longer-term cost may be higher due to the need for frequent cartridge or pod replacements. Vape kits can be a more significant initial investment, but their replaceable components can offer more cost efficiency over time.

Health and Safety Considerations

While both devices are popular alternatives to traditional smoking, users must consider health and safety. Proper maintenance and understanding of your device are crucial, especially with more complex systems like vape kits. E-cigarettes provide a more controlled dosage of nicotine, which can be beneficial for those trying to manage their intake.

Who Should Use Vape Kits?

Vape kits best suit those who enjoy tinkering and tailoring their vaping experience. If you value cloud production, flavor diversity, and technical customization, a vape kit might be your perfect choice.

Who Should Use E-cigarettes?

E-cigarettes are ideal for smokers transitioning to vaping who prefer a simple, straightforward device that mimics the feel and handling of a traditional cigarette. They are also excellent for vapers who prioritize portability and ease of use.

How to Choose the Right Option

Choosing between a vape kit and an e-cigarette depends on personal preference and vaping goals. Consider what aspects of vaping are most important to you—simplicity, customization, performance, or cost—and let those priorities guide your decision.

To Wrap It Up

Understanding the distinctions between vape kits and e-cigarettes is essential for any vaper looking to find their perfect match. By considering your needs, preferences, and the characteristics of each type of device, you can enhance your vaping experience and enjoy each puff to its fullest.

2024.06.01 03:07 Jenson-ecigs How Do You Choose the Right Vape Kit or E-Cigarette?

Choosing the fitting vape kit or e-cigarette is crucial for consumers and the professionals who design and manufacture these devices. As someone involved in developing vaping products, understanding the nuances of battery chemistry, design considerations, and safety protocols can significantly enhance the quality and reliability of the products you create. This guide aims to navigate the complexities of choosing the fitting vape kit that aligns with consumer preferences and regulatory standards.
When entering the world of vape manufacturing, one must focus on what sells and what sustains and propels the technology forward. How do you balance consumer appeal with technical efficacy and safety? This guide will provide the insights needed to make informed decisions in the rapidly evolving vape industry.

Understanding Vape Batteries

What powers a vape kit is as important as the kit itself. Different battery types—lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, or newer polymer models—offer various benefits and challenges. The choice of battery impacts the device's life span, safety, and usability.

Design Considerations

How do you design a device that stands out? From sleek, pocket-friendly models to robust, feature-rich devices, the key is understanding the end user. Integrating user feedback into design processes is crucial for iterative development that responds to real-world use.

Safety Protocols

Ensuring vape device safety is achievable by implementing rigorous testing protocols, following international safety standards, and consistently monitoring product performance. Recall systems and safety alerts bolster consumer trust and product reliability in the vaping style.

Performance Features

A vape kit's performance is measured by its vapor quality, battery life, and control settings. Customizable features can cater to various preferences, enhancing user satisfaction and device functionality.

User Preferences

Understanding user preferences helps tailor products that meet specific needs. Aligning product attributes with user expectations is critical, whether for cloud size, throat hit, or flavor intensity.

Regulatory Compliance

Staying ahead of regulations ensures your products remain on the market without legal complications. Keeping abreast of changes in legislation can help anticipate market shifts and adapt production strategies accordingly.

Innovation in Vape Technology

Exploring innovative technologies like temperature control and connectivity options with smartphones can set your products apart. These features improve the user experience and drive the industry forward.

Cost vs. Quality

Finding the right balance between cost and quality is vital. High-quality materials and advanced features might increase the price but can lead to better user satisfaction and lower long-term costs due to reduced warranty claims.

The Future of Vaping Devices

Looking ahead, the vaping industry continues to evolve. How will emerging technologies and changing consumer behaviors shape the future of vaping devices? Staying informed and agile is crucial.

To Wrap It Up

A profound grasp of market demands and technological capabilities is crucial for choosing the appropriate components and designs for vape kits. By prioritizing inventive solutions and safety measures, manufacturers can guarantee that their products enhance the vaping experience and remain durable.

2024.05.30 19:37 CanisGulo Is crawlspace encapsulation worth it?

Need to get vapor barrier and insulation (currently in between floor joists) replaced in crawlspace. Also need some minor mold remediation.
Is it worth it to go the extra step and get the crawlspace fully encapsulated, including a vent from HVAC and separate dehumidifier?
Price conparison: ~$3,200 for basic vapor bailer and insulation ~7,300 for encapsulation
Edit: crawlspace is ~1,000 sqft
Edit 2: Thanks for all the info and suggestions. We have about 4 companies coming out. Will update to let y'all know what they all suggest and price points.

2024.05.30 19:02 yowhatisuppeeps Local DIY music list --June!

Hello! Back with a list of Louisville music for June. It's few days early, because there are quite a few shows June 1st and 2nd! There's a lot of shows in general this month! I'm very excited!!
One I would like to specifically highlight in an act of blatant self promotion is the Louisville Zine release show on June 2nd. Louisville Zine is a project I have been working on for a long time at this point. The final product is an 80 page zine featuring art from local artists, local music write-ups, 30 pages of show flyers from 2023, in homage to The White Glove book, and a lot more. I am very proud to have the first volume of hopefully many finished, and would love to share it with as many people as I can. The bands that I selected to play my show are all new, with this being Daisy Chain's debut show. They're all incredibly talented, and I hope that they all take off. For more information about the zine / artists, you can visit @ louisvillezine on Instagram.
Anyways, back to the June list-- if there is any show featuring local artists that I missed, comment below :)

The nickel boron coating is a game-changer, reducing friction and providing a smooth, reliable operation.
One of the things I appreciate most is the "No Hammer" feature. It ensures that there's minimal wear and tear on the bolt carrier, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for frequent maintenance. The 11-inch length provides ample coverage, ensuring accuracy and precision at the range.
However, one downside I've noticed is that the product might not be suitable for all states or hunting regulations. It's always important to double-check before placing an order. Overall, I'm impressed with the Failzero Bolt Carrier Group and its improved performance for 6.8 SPC rifles.

🔗Premium JP Enhanced Gas Rings for Improved Rifle Performance

https://preview.redd.it/g977vdjz0i3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c3a279958f33173de532797f326e9e978300ccd
I've recently tried out the JP Enhanced Gas Ring 223rem and I must say, it's been an interesting experience. This one-piece design is a major departure from the traditional three-piece gas rings found in most rifles. It uses a similar design to that of the McFarland rings, but with the precision-ground gas rings specifically designed to fit small-frame carrier group components such as the JP Enhanced Bolt.
The company claims that after testing multiple minute grind callouts, they've come up with a perfect balance between a solid gas seal and a very low-friction relationship between rings and bolt carrier, which is said to increase the rifle's operational window. However, I found that having a low-friction relationship led to some issues. It doesn't have as sturdy a seal as expected, and I've noted increased fouling after several shots.
One feature that did stand out to me was the design of the rings. They use the cycling action itself to scrape the walls of the carrier, which helps shed fouling with every shot. It's a smart design that shows that JP Enhanced puts a lot of thought into their products.
While there were a few drawbacks, the overall performance of the JP Enhanced Gas Ring 223rem was decent. It may not be the perfect fit for all rifles, but it's worth considering for any. 223 rifle enthusiast looking for a replacement gas ring.

I never had to worry about jams, making this BCG an invaluable addition to my build. Its smoothness is a game-changer, which is vital for efficient firearms operation.
However, I found it initially tight when I first assembled it. While it's not a problem, it did take some effort to break it in. Also, the extractor was rather stiff, which required some adjustments before it could function correctly.

With its superior finish, the kit stood out amongst other, less polished options. Installation was a breeze, and I'm glad I didn't have to worry about any compatibility issues with the AR-15.
Despite this, I did notice a slight difference between the bolt and the original one I had. While not a deal-breaker, it raised questions about the product's durability in the long run. However, for the price, the bolt kit offers solid value, and I'm confident that it'll function as expected for some time.
Overall, if you're in the market for a reliable and affordable alternative to OEM parts, this AR bolt kit from LBE Unlimited is an excellent choice. It's a great way to ensure your AR-15 functions reliably even with an extra kit on hand for emergencies.

The ARP studs are perfect for either painting or chrome plating, providing an attractive complement to any setup. Furthermore, the washers included with the kit make assembling a rear end a breeze.
My only drawback with the kit is that it's a bit pricey for a DIY vehicle enthusiast like me. The anodized finish on this derailleur hanger is top-notch, providing a sleek and professional look to your bike setup. Plus, the included mounting hardware makes installation a breeze.
While the product does its job admirably, there is a slight downside to the anodized finish, as it can be a bit prone to scratches. It's a small trade-off, though, considering the overall quality and craftsmanship of the derailleur hanger.

Of course, no product is perfect. While the black SOLGWBCG556-SCALPER bolt carrier group did an excellent job with the 223 Remington/556 NATO ammo, I couldn't help but notice the occasional slight over-penetration, which I assume could be a result of the bullet's design. I appreciated the precision machined threads for secure engagement, and they didn't rust despite being exposed to the elements during the build process.
One downside I encountered was the slightly longer length of the studs compared to my previous kit, which made installing them a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, I managed to get them where they needed to be with a bit of patience and some extra persuasion.
Overall, the ARP 250-3008 provided me with the reliability and durability I was seeking, and I'm confident that my rear end is now stronger and more secure than ever before. It may not be perfect, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this case.

2024.05.29 23:05 jurgystalisman1892 1930’s home. What to do about the vapor barrier?

Hello all. Decided to make some upgrades to my house. We live in a cold weather climate… 1930’s bungalow with 5” of blow in above 2” of wood chip on a lathe and plaster ceiling. Drafty in the winter, No vapor barrier. Unvented soffits. Rigid insulation on exterior. I recently added intake vents for more ventilation in attic.
Currently the attic is in great condition for its age, no moisture/mold.
I initially had come to the conclusion that I wanted to vacuum out the old insulation and spray in a vapor barrier then blow in r40 but I recently had an insulation contractor come and recommend that I don’t necessarily need a vapor barrier.
Now I’m perplexed.
The contractor stated that for the price it might not be worth it. Rather, he recommended, that I vacuum out the old insulation and seal up all penetrations then blow in cellulose insulation at r50 and the attic will be fine
Am I crazy for not putting in a vapour barrier?
Also… I am replacing all windows and I am worried about the high humidity in the winters. (Open to adding an HRV to mitigate any issues)
Any experience insulators out there that can weigh in??
Thanks!

2024.05.29 16:54 Potato_peeler9000 Ace Pro, X4, and Caving (no light scenarios).

Hi,
I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy my very first action cam for my cycling, hiking, diving and caving outings.
If one is willing to pay the extra price and be extra careful with the lenses, the possibilities offered by the X4 seems irresistible to a newbie like me. Especially for diving and cycling, which I'm very fond of.
However, I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with using it for caving applications.
For those who don't know, caves are basically the worst case scenario for filming: impenetrable darkness punctuated by harsh LED light beam, increasing the contrasts and the visibility of the dust and vapor particles in flotation. Any (serious) picture taking in caves requires several camera flash spaced from one another. And I'm gonna have to crawl with any gear I'm taking with me.
Realistically, this restricts any action cam to close shots only: an illuminated subjects walking, climbing obstacles, and for 360 cameras POV shots of roping down vertical sections.
A few videos I watched seems to agree on the fact the Ace Pro is better suited for low light scenarios than the X4. Is this due to a weakness of any 360 camera in low light, or to a more "polished" image processing from the manufacturer?
To sum it up, my question to any Ace Pro and X4 user out there are: 1- Is the gap is low light performances sufficient that you would consider the Ace Pro more usable than the X4 for low to no light circumstances? Even to the sacrifice of all the possibilities offered by the 360 image taking?
2- Would you consider the Ace Pro significantly more durable than the X4? Double lenses is double the failure point, but my guess would be removable lens cover more than make up for it? I don't think diving cases offer any help in that regard (that is, if you want to keep them water tight).
3- Action cam aren't known for their photography potential, but would say the X4 or the Ace Pro are more qualitative for picture taking than your standard Smartphone, and could work for point&shoot photography?

2024.05.29 15:17 DeezSaltedNutz Blank Shots - The Chronicle of Meni Morim

I just treated myself to the scintillating masterpiece known as 'Rising from the Ashes' from Equity Guru, featuring none other than our beloved CEO, Mr. Meni Morim. Hosted by the ever-charming Chris Parry, this visual feast left me utterly bewildered—was it an interview or a tribute to the colossal, almost mythical efforts of our great leader to rescue the company?
The highlight reel included Mr. Morim waxing poetic about the wonders of in-house extraction and its fat profit margins—only to witness him later attempting to offload this prized asset for a song. Then there's the delightful contradiction where he scoffs at the idea of a stock rollback or reverse split, pledging his undying love for genuine, organic share price growth based on fundamentals—right after springing a 20 to 1 reverse split on his unsuspecting investors.
Sadly, Mr. Parry missed a golden opportunity to probe the hundreds of millions vaporized under Mr. Morim's watch, with zilch, nada, or nil to show for it. Really, we might as well have saved Mr. Morim’s hefty paycheck and used a coin toss for decision-making—it probably would have boasted a higher success rate.
This riveting presentation made one thing crystal clear: while Mr. Morim certainly has the gift of gab, he distinctly lacks the essential skills to genuinely propel the company forward or bring any tangible value to the table, as evident in our revenues. What an enlightening exposé on leadership—at its most ornamental! May I suggest a new name for the video: 'Blank Shots - The Chronicles of Meni Morim.'

2024.05.29 09:59 StonedMackin What is the best kind of electric lighter to get?

Well I'm tired of the lighters I have going on. Either the fuel is all gone or the flint just keeps working (breaking the wheel and spring apart and putting them back on doesn't work). Been able to refuel a few BIC lighters (and a long one) with some of the butane I have but been unable to successfully do any more, even the torches I have. Don't really want to keep buying butane either. Plus electric lighters are considered healthier since they don't use the butane or a flame (meaning less chemicals being inhaled or put into the air).
I've been learning some about the different kinds of electric lighters; plasma lighters, arc lighters, electric burner plates, electronic lighters, etc.
What are the differences between them? What are the price ranges? Which kind is the best and what's the best lighter you know of that kind? Are they good against wind/the cold/snow/etc?
I'm looking to use it predominantly for smoking bowls/onies/chillums, occasional cigarette, occasionally a candle or something. Of course I would need it to be rechargeable and reliable. I won't be getting it soon but at some point I would like to be able to get one (financial issues atm). Also since I want to quit smoking cigarettes and eventually get more into edibles once I'm more financially stable to consistently afford them (hopefully by then our dispensaries are open) I'm guessing this is going to be a healthier option compared to butane/propane lighters? I know people say "use a wick if that's what you want" but really? Who wants to light a wick every time they're taking a hit? Sure it's healthier but at that point you're just lighting two things (whatever you're lighting the wick with, which brings me back to the question about a rechargeable lighter, and the wick itself). Maybe one day if I have my own house, smoke room with stationary bongs, etc but at that point I'm better off just getting a vaporizer like a volcano lol.
Anyway just wondering about your suggestions? Just looking into it, been thinking about it for awhile but forgot all about them until recently. There's a lot of different information and results on Google too, which I'm also looking on. Just thought it would be a good discussion for here too to get a more personalized recommendation. Thanks.
Hope everyone is alive, healthy, safe and doing good out here. Positive vibes.

So why should you read this? That's something you have to decide. Read the title. Only you can decide whether it makes sense to find out more about this company, or not.
This is the only image I can post here. 🙁
❗️ TL;DR: Look here, this essay’s got more words than a politician’s promise, and it doesn't even spoon-feeds you a play. Preposterous! If you’re itching to block me, here’s your guide. Now, if the sheer volume of words is giving you the vapors, I don’t blame you. Just look at this behemoth of text. By golly!
Let’s face it: you don’t really want to be here, and you’re likely not my audience (folks who actually enjoy reading and/or appreciate knowledge). So, I’d just as soon see you off. Sure, you could go outside and indulge in memes, but I wager you’ve got a primal need to scroll down and leave a gripe about how absurd it is to expect anyone to wade through this verbosity. Well, go ahead. Vent away.
Hello. Welcome.
You should already know that in today's financial markets, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as the golden prodigy, with investors flocking like bees to honey, eagerly snapping up stocks from those trailblazing companies leading the AI revolution.
Amidst this fervor, one company stands as the top purveyor of AI services to the U.S. government. Yet, it remains unknown to the general populace.
This essay delves into why Booz Allen Hamilton has earned this position, the significant impact of its AI initiatives, and what this means for traders keen to ride the AI boom.
Interested? Keep reading, then.
⚠️ WARNING: I originally wrote this research before Booz Allen Hamilton’s fourth quarter and full-year fiscal 2024 results. Fiscal year, not a calendar year. And I did share my findings with other traders on time. If you are reading this now, that event is already in the past. However, the research is still valid, so I’m posting it here.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: In their diaphanous wisdom, Reddit/Mods have decreed that posts be limited to a single attachment, which I’ve already used. This essay is adorned with several images to enhance its appeal and, more crucially, includes numerous charts, which I am regrettably unable to include here. If you wish to peruse the full essay with all its illustrative charts, here’s the link. You can continue reading it here on WSB, but be forewarned—you’ll miss out on the visual aids that bring the data to life. The choice, dear reader, is yours.
Well now, picture this: The clock has just struck midnight, and today — Friday, May 24, 2024 — has only begun to stretch its legs. I literally just mentioned that I originally wrote this research before Booz Allen Hamilton’s fourth quarter and full-year fiscal 2024 results. Just a few hours ago, I went and bought myself a trunk full of Booz Allen Hamilton shares. And wouldn’t you know it, in just a handful of hours, that very company is set to unveil their earnings report, promising a significant move in the stock, one way or another. Again, I wrote this last week before the earnings.
I leaped into this play guided by my trader’s intuition. Now, as I burn the midnight oil, I’m digging into the logic and facts behind that decision. I figured, heck, why not pen an essay about the things I uncover along the way?
the number one provider of artificial intelligence (AI) services to the U.S. government.
A bit of history
Booz Allen Hamilton is no hip upstart. Nope. This institution was founded way back in 1914 by one Edwin G. Booz in the bustling city of Chicago, offering management consulting services before it was even fashionable.
During the 1940s, it played a pivotal role in World War II, aiding the U.S. military in improving efficiency and logistics. A decade later, the firm found a niche working with U.S. defense contracts, cementing its reputation as a trusted advisor to Uncle Sam.
So why focus on a company named like a law firm?
Well, according to GovWin from Deltek — a leading market intelligence organization — Booz Allen is the number one provider of artificial intelligence (AI) services to the U.S. government.
And unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that the market currently embraces anything related to artificial intelligence with open arms and a hearty cheer. AI is the belle of the ball.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
For perspective, exactly one year ago (May 24, 2023), NVIDIA had a market capitalization of $760.2 billion. Today, she’s valued at $2.55 trillion. Why? It’s largely due to the insatiably high demand for its AI chips, which are essential for powering advanced AI applications.
A reliable uptrend
Booz Allen Hamilton boasts a legacy spanning over a century — they consider it 110 years young — but it wasn’t until 2010 that it opened its doors to public investors, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BAH.
And if we take a gander at the company’s story as told by its yearly chart, from a humble low of $11.85 in 2012, Booz Allen has steadily climbed the ladder of success, closing today — or yesterday — at $156.83.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Historical yearly performance of Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) stock) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
That’s a 1,224% ascent, with only a single slightly red year in between, marring the record in 2021. That’s quite the tale of endurance and growth, wouldn’t you say?
Aren’t we late to the party, though?
Well, Booz Allen Hamilton’s current market capitalization stands at a tidy $20 billion. It’s nothing to scoff at, mind you, but to put things in perspective, this ranks Booz Allen as the 955th most valuable company. There’s still plenty of rungs left to climb on the ladder and ample room for growth down the road.
A significant catalyst
I’m sharing a monthly chart. Generally speaking, BAH was meandering sideways for nearly three years. That is, until a year ago, on May 26, 2023, to be precise.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Monthly performance of Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) stock. The price level illustrates a resistance/support level between August 2020 and May 2023.) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
Following that earnings report, the stock kicked up her heels and went on a 38% run over the next two months.
Also, aside from better-than-expected earnings, Booz Allen Hamilton was awarded a $919 million Engineering, Development, Integration, and Technology-based Solutions (EDITS) contract.
The contract supports the “Soldier as a System” concept, enhancing warfighter capabilities across multiple Department of Defense (DoD) agencies. The EDITS program promotes collaboration across service boundaries and aims to modernize and equip military tactical units, improving lethality, survivability, and situational awareness.
Look at the competition
Hold your horses. It’s not just one contract or one project propelling Booz Allen Hamilton skyward. The tide of AI is lifting all boats, so it’s not just one company sailing full steam ahead.
Granted, Booz Allen offers a smorgasbord of services, thus facing several competitors in various fields. However, if we narrow our focus to the AI sector, some of the most direct competitors are:
Leidos Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: LDOS)
Leidos provides AI and machine learning solutions to various U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Defense (DoD). Their AI capabilities are integrated into solutions for cybersecurity, data analysis, and operational efficiency in defense and intelligence operations.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Daily performance of Leidos Holdings (LDOS) stock. It showcases a bullish catalyst after the most recent earnings.) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
CACI International Inc (NYSE: CACI)
CACI offers AI-driven solutions to enhance national security, defense, and intelligence operations. Their AI products include advanced analytics, machine learning models, and AI applications that support mission-critical tasks for the U.S. government.
📈 I'm not allowed to add a chart (Daily performance of CACI International (CACI) stock. It showcases a bullish catalyst after the most recent earnings.) here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
As you can see, when earnings roll around, these companies tend to pop and set off on a run northward, much like a hound hot on the trail. Each earnings report can become a potential catalyst, sparking a surge in investor enthusiasm and sending stock prices climbing. That’s what I’m playing. What I played.
-----
Other high-profile projects
Booz Allen Hamilton is involved in several high-profile projects that leverage AI. Some notable projects include:
Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2)
Booz Allen supports the U.S. Department of Defense’s CJADC2 initiative alongside L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX), which aims to integrate sensors, data, and weapon systems across all military domains — land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace — using AI and machine learning to enhance situational awareness and decision-making capabilities.
Project Maven
Booz Allen has been a key contractor in Project Maven, an AI program initiated by the Department of Defense, which among other things, aims to analyze video footage from drones using machine learning algorithms to identify objects and patterns, significantly improving intelligence and surveillance operations.
Project Linchpin
It is the U.S. Army’s first program of record providing an artificial intelligence operations pipeline. It is currently just a $2 million contract to support research and development, but it is anticipated to be followed by subsequent juicier contracts.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
Satellites
Booz Allen also made a strategic investment in Albedo, the first company to operate satellites in very low Earth orbit (VLEO), which enables them to offer ultra-high resolution commercial imagery from space.
Let’s take a moment to chill because it’s not all black ops and military projects.
U.S. Department of Energy
On March 12, 2024, Booz Allen Hamilton announced it was awarded a ten-year $550 million contract from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to support the advancement of high-potential, high-impact, early-stage technologies that generate, store, and use energy in entirely new ways to reduce U.S. emissions, improve energy efficiency, and increase the resiliency and reliability of the U.S. power grid.
To give you an idea, ARPA-E is tasked with identifying, shepherding, and accelerating “…the stuff that sounds crazy until it changes the world.”
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
On May 8, 2024, the company announced it was awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) to support the agency’s modernization efforts and its mission to protect human health and the environment. Booz Allen won one of four positions on the seven-year Scientific Modeling, Application, Visualization, Computational Science, Software, and Statistical Support (SMAVCS4) BPA, which has a ceiling of $431 million.
And many more
Booz Allen has nearly 200 active AI projects across defense, national security, and civil missions — including three of the largest AI contracts within the Department of Defense.
Understandably, many of them are top secret. 🤐 Late last year, an analyst noted that 2,200 BAH employees are considered ‘AI staff,’ with a staggering 80% holding government security clearances. The company’s AI capabilities are not just extensive but also deeply integrated into sensitive areas of national security.

For those curious souls wanting to delve deeper, check out Booz Allen Hamilton’s Leading AI for the Federal Government portal.
If your stars align, you might even consider applying for a job since they’re growing and looking to fill a multitude of positions.
What analysts are saying
In a February research report, William Blair analyst Louie DiPalma mentioned that the outbreak of multiple wars and the artificial intelligence boom “have led to an inflection in government tech hiring and bookings that we feel has some serious legs.”
And also, that Booz Allen “remains the government’s go-to source to modernize the military and prepare for conflicts.” In fact, the company “has more backlog than it can handle as government spending has surged on Pacific tensions and AI prototyping.”
Finally, this week (May 21, 2024), Stifel raised its price target for BAH to $170 from $155 (from the chart above that you can't see, BAH was $156.83), keeping a buy rating since “AI, cyber and IT modernization remain in focus for the government.” Besides, there have been recently approved federal budget and supplemental spending packages.
According to data from William Blair, the analyst sentiment towards Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) is overwhelmingly positive. Not a single soul is suggesting to sell, which paints a promising picture for our tale.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image with the current rating distribution. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link. This table could be important to see.
Their aiSSEMBLE solution
Just recently — on April 30, 2024 — Booz Allen Hamilton announced the launch of aiSSEMBLE Baseline, a first-of-its-kind, open-source solution built to simplify the engineering and deployment of AI systems.
Booz Allen Hamilton boasts that aiSSEMBLE is the core tool cementing its status as the leading AI provider to the U.S. federal government. If that’s the case, it suggests that this new foundational code, complete with open-source documentation and free for use by government, academic, nonprofit, and commercial entities, could further extend Booz Allen’s lead.
It can also help them with talent acquisition. By opening the doors to aiSSEMBLE, Booz Allen is inviting a wave of innovation from all corners — government agencies, universities, nonprofits, and private firms — because some bright sparks out there will undoubtedly create remarkable innovations using aiSSEMBLE, catching Booz Allen’s eye in the process.
There’s one kink, though…
Booz Allen Hamilton’s own top brass sold shares on May 21, 2024. Those actions were filed with the SEC a day before BHA was scheduled to report earnings. There are eight Form-4s. For those not in the know, a Form-4 is a statement of changes in beneficial ownership of securities by company insiders.
But wait a second. Let’s dig deeper.
All the Form-4s state they first acquired shares through the vesting of performance-based restricted stock units (RSUs). These RSUs are a form of compensation granted to employees, becoming vested and thereby exercisable or transferable based on achieving specific performance criteria over a set period. In other words, they hit a target — they accomplish a goal — and they’re rewarded with stock.
The shares they sold are just a part of the shares acquired. For instance, the CEO — Horacio Rozanski — received 71,575 shares, and he decided to sell 34,571. The EVP & Chief Operating Officer Kristine Anderson acquired 7,544 shares and sold 3,644.
Not a single one of them decided to sell the farm and run away.
Therefore, they might have sold a portion to cover taxes or diversify their portfolios. This is a common practice and doesn’t necessarily reflect a lack of confidence in the company’s future.
Besides, the number of shares sold is minimal compared to the total number they still hold. I told you the CEO sold 34,571 shares, but he is still holding 579,025 more. Kristine sold 3,644, but she still has 72,761.
In the end, it is not a red flag. But it was a kink I didn’t appreciate, considering they still decided to sell before earnings. Then again, it’s quite plausible that Booz Allen Hamilton’s top brass might be governed by internal clauses dictating when they can sell their vested shares. After all, many companies have strict trading windows and blackout periods to prevent any appearance of insider trading or conflict of interest.
Nonetheless, this was one of the two reasons why I only bought a trunk instead of backing up a Freightliner to load up with shares.
How my gambit played out
Honestly, there's no point in narrating the play on Reddit since I can't add the entry, premarket charts, profit, or any attachments. So... if you care about how I played this, the link is here.
One more insight I learned
Booz Allen Hamilton and its helmsman, Horacio Rozanski, aren’t clamoring atop the AI hype train, hollering for investors to crown them the new AI darling everyone should own.
Make no mistake, they’re an AI powerhouse. It’s just that they’re not focused on selling the sizzle.
In the current world, where companies blare out press releases at the faintest whiff of anything AI-related to entice investors, Booz Allen Hamilton — armed with bona fide credentials — opts to toil diligently away from the limelight.
Perhaps it’s by design, though. Considering this is a company that lists its fiscal 2024 revenue with most projects cloaked in secrecy.
🖼️ I'm not allowed to add an image here with all their classified contracts. If you want to see the essay without this limitation, here's the link.
So what happens now?
I’ve already tipped my hand and no longer hold any BAH shares. My play has come and gone.
Considering today's pullback, I bought a small number of September and December calls.
Now, after reading this essay, could someone consider investing in Booz Allen Hamilton? Maybe. AI is set to grow, the U.S. government is bound to expand its AI use, and this company is already well-positioned to secure more projects.
So, why am I not invested in BAH? Because I’m neither an investor nor a position trader. I’m a short-term swing trader. I played this earnings catalyst, made some profit, and then walked away.
Granted, after this deep dive, I’ll keep an eye on BAH and might tag along if she sets up for a northward run. But I know my timeframe. I know my trading style and my limitations.
Likewise, it’s up to you to know your trading style and decide what to do with this information.
Keep in mind, BAH experienced some volatility selling, and the implied volatility dipped post-earnings and guidance. Probably because some who positioned ahead of earnings were expecting a bigger leap. It’s logical to assume some will take their profits (as we saw today), so don't jump blindly.
On the flip side, these earnings mostly flew under the radar. Booz Allen Hamilton remains an AI colossus that most retail traders haven’t even heard of. Besides, do you know how many will actually read this and understand the information?
At any rate, now you know what I know.
Have a great day.

Talk me out of buying a Dark Horse
TLDR; How bad of an idea is it to get a Dark Horse in Germany?
First time posting here in hopes of getting some insights and maybe joining the Mustang club soon.
So I live in Europe, specifically Germany where gas prices aren't exactly cheap, insurance and car taxes would come also on top.
I got an offer where I can configure a Dark Horse to my liking to an msrp of ~77k Euro but would be getting a discount down to 66k + 1590 Euro to put it on my name. Sounds so far so good and technically affordable to me. Plus it's basically my dream car, only second to the 1969 boss.
It would be my daily driver for a hybrid job with 3days requested office presence at 36km distance with low traffic via Autobahn.
What do you guys think? Should I go for it or is this financial suicide? I earn decent in SW development and have currently a very reliable VW that gets the job done so it's not a matter of needing the car, rather really really wanting it.
Edit: Oh boy, did not expect so much input from you kind internet strangers! Thanks! So, well, I am definitely more inclined to just getting it now :) I'll have some paperwork to do and let's also see how long the wait time is to get it delivered. Here's a bonus pic of my wish config:

The Vapor Blue metallic just has this little something and contrasts nicely with the styling package imo.

2024.05.27 15:38 Huge-Animal-8818 The Awakened Giant

The K’krai populace roared in unison, celebrating the victory against the Human United Nations. Every holoprojector was transmitting the devastation of the human world of Sirius Prime. The K’krai superweapon, the Kul’kur, or as it was known in Galactic Common, the Biological Atomizer, sent a shockwave of neutrons across the surface of the planet, turning every piece of bio matter into a sort of ash.
The broadcast showed humans running and being vaporized, crying and trying to hide, like the primitive apes they were. Surely, this would show that inferior species that the K’krai Empire was the strongest and as such, they should grovel beneath our feet.
However, in the following weeks, no capitulation came from the Human United Nations. Neither a condemnation of the devastation of Sirius Prime. In fact, the human leadership was weirdly silent. Maybe they were in shock of their absolute defeat. After all, the Humans were still experiencing a splintered state government despite their ascension to interstellar colonization. Maybe they were experiencing internal strife between the human nations. That was the first sign we ignored. The second sign, was the mass exodus of the human population that were inhabiting several worlds of the Galactic Community, all of them apparently returning to the human home world, Terra. But the final sign we ignored was perhaps our biggest failure, for we not only ignored it as a sign of danger, but laughed, believing it to be a sign of weakness by the humans.
The erasure of the hyper-lanes connecting to all human systems. It was an incredible feat, on par with the greatest civilizations to ever grace the galactic stage, but we were so drunk in our hubris, we failed to realize what such an action entailed. It meant the humans were more technologically advanced than anyone else in the current Galactic Community.
The Galactic Community chastised us for our barbaric actions during the war, some members going as far as saying we had awoken a sleeping giant. But once again, we laughed, blinded by our self-righteous arrogance, calling those members cowards, especially when some attempted to send diplomatic missions to Terra to try and broker a true peace. We promised those members the same fate as Sirius for such an act of defiance.
It turns out they were wiser than us.
It was normal day when every holoprojector in the galaxy stopped their usual program to broadcast a message from the humans. However instead of the usual emblem of the Human United Nations, a new emblem appeared, a golden eagle with 12 stars all around it and the human letters SPQT below. Then a human male appeared, his head shaven, and his brown eyes piercing. His skin wasn’t as dark as some humans got, but it wasn’t the lightest. It was somewhere in between their pigmentation levels and patterns.
“People of the Galaxy, my name is Augustus. I am the Emperor of the Senate and the People of Terra. In the wake of the war with the vermin known as K’krai, we, the people of Terra, underwent a shift. We realised that we could no longer be divided amongst ourselves when fighting enemies as ruthless as the vermin. As such, the world agreed, and instead of a single nation taking over, we all abdicated and revived one of the greatest empires of our past.”
My brood mates snarled every time he called us vermin, shouting insults and death threats towards the holoprojector. Me however, I felt something was terribly wrong. A heavy sense of dread was setting over me, dominating me. I got up and opened a window and in the sky, I could see a new bright star in the distance.
“Today is the two year anniversary of the Massacre of Sirius Prime. That day, our eyes were opened to the reality of war with other galactic powers. We were so focused on our peacekeeping agenda and our own rules of war, we did not consider the other powers did not care about such rules. We were wrong, and we paid the price. This brings me to my next point. To every power in the galaxy, I ask that you understand what we are about to do is not an act of revenge, nor is it born out of hatred for the K’krai. We spent the last year and a half debating this topic, with several global referendums and senate votes being issued and revised. The People and the Senate of Terra have declared the K’krai to be a parasite and vermin, a species that exalts in destruction and misery. As such, we have voted that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to them and have marked them for extermination.”
I felt a chill travel down my body as the star in the sky kept glowing brighter and brighter. The human’s voice felt otherworldly.
“We have initiated the Nemesis Protocol 30 minutes ago and began shattering every K’krai world apart from their capital world. To those inhabiting those worlds, I hope you find solace in each other before the end, because you will find none after. And to the K’krai leadership, do not worry. We, on our path towards the stars, have learned the importance of preservation of species, even those considered to be parasitic in origin. Your capital world will be reaped, with ten thousand individuals being transported to a Preservation Station orbiting the Erebus Black Hole, where every possible need your species might have, from environment to nutritional will be met. The world will then be quantum shifted, existing in a locked temporal loop for all of eternity.”
I turned towards my brood mates, whose faces were twisted in horror as the realization of reality washed over them. Outside I could hear the commotion and the cries of panic and I couldn’t help but feel empty, wondering if this was how the humans we vaporized had felt just before their deaths. The glow was now so bright that it was outshining our star.
“For Sirius Prime”, said the human emperor on the holoprojector as I ran towards my brood mates to hug th-

2024.05.27 10:39 OkRevolution4965 Update on novel

This is the first chapter, please provide feedback if you have the time. If this chap turns out to be decent, I'll keep working on the novel. If there are flaws, I'll polish this up before moving on. English ain't my first language, so please understand my poor grammar. Also, I'm also not sure how dialogue works, so that's another thing you'll have to understand.
e.g.
"Hey," Jim said. "What's up?" "Hey." Jim said. "What's up?"
stuff like that, i'm not sure about.
I've copied and pasted the text from Google docs, and the indentation is slightly off. Forgive me for the formatting.

Avocation

8:13 A.M. January 23rd, 2012
Pristine Worth, 13th
Vail, Colorado
Your average bank robbery
“So, as you can probably guess…” a figure dressed in a leather jacket said. “This is a robbery.”
The robber had a gun in his hands and was wearing a small fanny pack on his hips. On his face was a Guy Fawkes mask. On his hands were a pair of blue latex gloves. “Everybody down on the ground. Now!” He shouted. The gun had a black leather handle with a silver handle. He toggled the safety lever and heard a click. The robber felt the trigger loosen.
There were three people in the relatively small bank. One guard, one manager, and one teller. The others had fled when he pulled out the gun; a logical response. He’d originally planned a note job; he’d pass a Post-It note to a teller, who would withdraw the money for him. It was stupid, but thanks to the U.S.'s compliance policy, all tellers had to comply with robbers no matter what. He’d received the cash from the drawers and safes, but had made a gamble when he told her to go to the vault and withdraw all the deposit boxes. Within seconds, she ran out and called the authorities. The remaining teller was curled up in the fetal position on the ground, so the robber didn’t think she’d be much help. So here he was now. Another enthusiastic security guard had stood his ground but decided to go for a capricious stroll when a bullet grazed his shoes. Minimum wage had its limits. One by one, the hostages slowly lowered themselves to the ground except for the teller, who was still curled up into a ball.
He pondered to himself where to hit, keeping his gun trained on the hostages. The ATMs were out of the question. The teller stations were empty, but maybe the teller had intentionally not given him all of the cash in the drawers. Or he could go into the office area, which almost definitely would lead to a vault. He’d have to settle for the motherlode. The police were definitely contacted; it wouldn’t be long before the boys in blue showed up.
He stuffed the cash the teller had given him into his duffel bag, skimming through them, on the lookout for any dye packs. The robber wouldn’t have to worry about bait bills; he’d learnt from experience they did little to nothing. He filtered out one dye pack and threw it away. The bills with the dye pack attached to them were probably fakes anyway. The rest were dumped into his duffel bag. He left it open for later.
The robber looked around to see a frail, wooden door to his right. A sign read, ‘Restricted Area, Authorized Personnel Only’. Unfortunate. He aimed the gun at the lock, then pulled the trigger. It fell off with a clunk, then holstered his gun by habit. The robber walked up to the door and opened it.
Keeping the gun pointed towards the lobby, he stepped into the room. The door opened to an office area, with granite countertops and old desktop computers. He looked around until his eyes fell upon a large vault. Perfect. He holstered his gun and pulled out two brown blocks from his fanny pack. The box had a forest of wires woven around it and other pieces of electronic scrap and metal, snaking into the large box. Something was scribbled on the cardboard exterior in permanent pen. The whole contraption was held together by pieces of duct tape and glue. He kept his ears and eyes trained on the main room and peeled off the plastic on the side with the adhesive and attached them to the hinges of the vault door. A strip of white paper jutted out from the gray box. Even though it was a rush job, the robber felt proud of himself having made it with only C4 putty and cardboard boxes. He yanked out the white stripes on the explosives and ran back to the lobby, then covered his ears, despite the pair of headphones on his head. A deafening boom echoed through the room. The hostages screamed while the floor shook as if an earthquake had hit the area. Dust and debris cascaded down from the ceiling. Then, the shock stopped as abruptly as it had started. Sneaking a look through the window for any signs of law enforcement, he found the roads to be clear other than pedestrians running about like a flock of birds. Although the police weren’t here yet, it wouldn’t be long before they arrived in the vicinity. Worse yet, this was his first robbery in a while. He would have to be careful. Gun aimed at the door leading to the office area, the figure walked back into the room past the charred carpet and stench of burning cloth. The vault door’s handle had been sheared off by the explosion and sat embedded in a desk. The vault door itself was hanging slightly ajar. The robber yanked it open and entered the vault.
He stepped inside to find a cage door, most likely made out of steel.
“Right, right…” he muttered. Of course it wouldn’t be easy. The robber then checked his watch. It had been a minute since the alarms started ringing. He’d at least have about 5 minutes. He aimed his gun at the lock and took some potshots. The bullets clinked off harmlessly, only denting it. The robber then walked up to it and extracted the last improvised explosive from his pocket. Dropping his gun to the ground, he stuck it to the cage door and yanked out the cord. Even if the caged door didn’t exist, he had to use it to get rid of the evidence; no use in keeping it as a souvenir.
Picking up his gun from the ground hastily, he stumbled back into the lobby. The hostages rolled up into the fetal position, as if they knew another bomb was being blown. Another boom roared in the building. Glass fragments from the broken lights rained down on the floor, along with a shower of more dust. Some Monday for the three brave boys here, he thought. Dusting himself off, the robber then rose slowly and returned to the vault room, where the caged door had been blown off his hinges. Smoke rose from it like vapor rising from a kettle. The robber carefully kicked aside the charred door. He wouldn’t dare touch or step on it; he’d learnt from experience that explosives left metals scorching hot. The robber then dashed back out of the vault, then peeked around the corner to see if police force had arrived. Although he could hear echoes of sirens in the distance, there were still no police cars nearby. He tore his headphones out from his head, stray strands of hair getting caught in the headband and being yanked off. Grimacing from the stinging pain, he folded it back up and stowed it in his fanny pack. If he could, the robber would leave it behind; however, any DNA could easily be traced back to him. That was the reason why he was wearing the surgical gloves. Setting the gloves on fire and getting rid of the toxic fumes were the tricky part; though a reasonable price to pay in exchange for not getting thrown behind bars.
Not that he’d been operating under the radar; the robber had developed quite the reputation in the local community. A few years back, he’d once been caught breaking into a safe without anything covering his face. The robber had to stay out of town for half a year before law enforcement stopped investigating. Even though he was wearing a face mask, the robber still felt skittish walking in crowds.
The freelancer then walked slowly into the vault room. Surprisingly, it was only the size of an office cubicle. With shaking hands, he reached up to the shelves and jerked them open. In them were worn files and records, their pages yellow with age. There were some deposit boxes at the bottom of the shelves, but he wouldn’t have enough time to break them open, let alone get the keys. As he examined the trove, he could hear cars screeching down the street, with the faint echo of police sirens. Adrenaline started pumping in his blood and his heartbeat started to quicken. It had been a while since he’d committed a robbery; he’d forgotten about the feeling of the job. He took some deep breaths and tried to calm down. Checking his watch, he saw that he had 2 minutes of the original 5 until the police got here. In the explosions, he’d burnt through 2 whole minutes. And even 5 minutes were an estimate at best; Google Maps could only be so accurate with its guesses, apparently bad ones, since sirens had already started howling somewhere downtown.
The stale dust in the room stung his nose, but he soldiered on, turning to a table with a mountain of 100-dollar bills on it. He unslung his now empty fanny pack and set it down on the floor. He unzipped it and shoved the cash in, missing a few bundles on the way, handfuls of cash fluttering down to the ground like tree leaves. Even though the fanny pack was an extra-large model, he still couldn’t shove the entire load in. He’d have to settle for a dozen fistfuls. “Come on…” he muttered under his breath as he fumbled with the bag. He grabbed another fistful and stuffed it in, sneaking looks behind him to make sure the hostages didn’t attempt anything funny. Or maybe they had escaped; it wasn’t like the robber had zip tied them. The sirens had gotten louder now. He could faintly hear engines rumbling outside the building. The freelancer then managed to zip the pack back up and stumbled back into the employee area.
The robber ran back to the lobby and tore open the fanny pack. He shook it as bundles of cash fell into the duffel bag. The thud of money was music to his ears. He dashed back into the employee area.
The robber cased the room for an exit. He knew he’d parked a motorbike around here. Though he had scouted the place out before, he was still unsure of where the exit was. The front door was a big no-no; he could see the police cars now through the window. They were only a couple blocks away. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to get the rest of the money.. Then, he saw it. A door in the break room area, its hinges rusty with age, though there was a keycard reader next to it. Nebraska, he thought. He recalled the time when he’d blown up truck doors with his fellow robbers and made out with 20 million in gold. Good times. At least until he had to shoot someone.
Ignoring the increasing noise of the sirens, he ran around the room, opening drawers and sweeping tables in a frenzy. Nothing that he could use. The freelancer started panicking. He willed himself to calm down; law enforcement couldn’t be here so quickly. And he couldn’t give up now; he had the cash. All that was left was to get out of there. He cursed under his breath. Maybe he should just run out the front door after all. But he knew that was a Go To Jail card. He hadn’t stayed in the game this long by strutting around in broad daylight with a gun strapped to his waist.
The robber took a few deep breaths and walked over to the back door, kickin it. He tried again, putting more momentum into the kick. The door shook, but nothing. Heart pounding, he tried to bring the door down again, but was met with a sharp, stinging pain in his ankle. Wincing, he stood up. He’d watched James Bond one too many times. Once again, Hollywood had sold him a false bill of goods.
Frowning slightly, he retrieved the pair of headphones from his fanny pack and put it on his head. Then, he aimed at the door and shot the rusty hinges, emptying the clip. Sparks erupted from the brackish-orange steel like fireworks. He reached into his pocket and pulled out another magazine, then slapped it into the gun sloppily, his dexterity long gone from the adrenaline coursing in his blood. He felt one more magazine in his pocket. It was a tangential worry at best; he wouldn’t last long in a firefight. Not that he’d ever want to enter one in the first place. A leather jacket might stop a pebble being thrown at him, but not a pebble coming towards him at 2,600 feet per second. Then, the sound of tires screeching against concrete stopped. The robber’s heart felt like it did too, for a second. Damn it, he cursed. He hadn’t even got to the getaway vehicle yet. He would need a miracle.
Over the noise of alarms, a voice in a megaphone boomed outside the building.
“This is Officer Jackson of the Center Police Department. Surrender now and come out of the building with your hands raised.”
Yet another flashback to one of his robberies. Not every day do you get to face a squad of police officers on a Monday morning. He brushed that thought aside, blood roaring in his ears.
He shot off a hinge and pulled 5 shots at the hinge on top. Empty casings clattered onto the floor. The last hinge loosened and then fell off. With a rush of exhilaration, he opened the door and stumbled out to a getaway bike. No cameras were covering the dimly lit alley, though there was still foot traffic on the streets. With his blood roaring in his ears, he scanned the highway. Yes! Amidst the back alley, he could see that the roads were not locked down yet. He fumbled for the motorbike helmet on the seat and hastily put it on. The robber looked around for a brick or some heavy object to block the door with. Finding none, he slammed the door behind him. At this point, he was starting to feel light-headed from the adrenaline. He almost dropped the keys into a gap in a manhole, but grabbed it just in time. He stabbed it into the keyhole, taking two tries before finally finding purchase. He then turned the engines on and took off in the dark alleyway. He joined the bustling road, hopefully blending in with the fleeing caravan of cars. Most people seemed to treat a bank robbery like the plague; they’d do anything to run from the vicinity, something the robber didn’t quite understand. Tightening the straps on his helmet he’d neglected while making his getaway, he let out a sigh of relief, fogging up the helmet. The robbery was messy, even by amateur standards. He’d seen and committed better robberies, most not involving having the police on-site. At least he hit the ground running from his recent month off.
