This book is a drama/romance. the link below is a VERY BLURBBED outline, no actual writing. I want to know if there's things I could add, if the pacing is okay, and anything else you think I could do to make the story better! thanks!
so my book is about a girl in a boarding school. Elowen, who's got a heavy, complex past, is trying to hide it from her new school, which is why she stopped being friends with Matteo, a boy she grew up with, afraid he'd reveal her past. he had the same reason, not wanting her to reveal his. But they can't seem to stay away from each other due to Nancy, Elowen's enemy and Matteo's friend (who he's using.)
after some feuds between Nancy and Elowen, Nancy decides to get her back in the biggest way possible, stealing an important music record from her made by Elowen's grandma and mom. Who she has a complicated background with.
now the boys, Matteo and his friends are involved in a big complex blackmailing scheme. Colton, an older boy who got a compromising tape of them is blackmailing them for money. he has them export younger kids for valuables so that he won't give out the tape.
But Tony, one of the boys, likes Nancy, so when she pleads for him to tell her about what the heck they are going into the forest every weekend for, she tells her about Colton. She offers the idea of the music record, that Colton could make millions off it bc it's a good song. So Tony lies to Cullen and Emery, the two other boys, and convinces them to help extort Elowen for her tape under the pretence that it will make Matteo happy bc he hates her.
so they extort her for the tape, threatening her and such. so, knowing Cullen, Emery, Tony, and Nancy are matters, friends, she thinks he's a part of it and is determined to get him back. She follows them around campus, spying on them until the weekend comes and they go to give Colton his blackmail money. he mentions the tapes and Elowen is determined to get them, so she befriends Colton and steals the tapes and photos. She spreads them around the school, and Matteo is devastated.
she says she will say the videos, not them if Matteo calls off his friendship with the boys and Nancy as well as gets the record back for her. eventually, they join forces bc they don't trust each other and try to get the record back. along the way, much happens and eventually, they reconnect and fall in love!

2024.05.18 15:24 CarmillaLoveBites Fathomless Warlock Detective for Solo Play?

I’m planning on running a solo campaign running mysteries a la Agatha Christie/Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. The first half will be the mystery, and every mystery will end in combat, to either capture the guilty party or to buy time for the police to get there. I’m still deciding if it should take place in a 1920s English style village with vintage cars that run on magic and such, or if I should do a modern fantasy backdrop. I fell in love with the idea of a fathomless warlock as the detective, with the patron acting as his “companion’” for the mystery. My idea for the character is that they were originally a student or professor at an arcane university(Possibly a SilverQuill at Strixhaven) and through a mishap with one of the books while doing some frowned upon research, found themselves attached to their patron, and was subsequently tossed out of the school in disgrace. Upon returning home to their small town, they end up stumbling into an endless amount of mysteries, and falling sideways into the role of detective. What I’m struggling with is the patron themselves. I don’t want to do a Cthulhu god monster, and I don’t want to do an elemental… I want to maintain the aquatic theme, but have a more positive relationship with their patron. I was massively inspired by ABD Illustrates story about their warlock Felix and their patron, and I want to do something similar but with my own flavor. What are some good ideas for funny or positive aquatic patrons for your campaigns?

2024.05.18 14:47 Kaelaface May 17, 2024

Yesterday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose above 40,000 but then dropped back below it; today it closed above 40,000 for the first time in history, ending the day at 40,003.59. This extraordinary performance means investors have confidence the Federal Reserve will get inflation under control without throwing the country into a recession. It is a triumphant vindication of the financial policies advanced by President Joe Biden and Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen.
In comparison to the breathless coverage of the stock market during Trump’s administration, this milestone is getting very little coverage. Under Trump, the stock market had the highest annualized gain of any Republican president since Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s, but at 11.8%, that annualized gain was lower than the annualized return under Democratic presidents Barack Obama (12.1%) and Bill Clinton (15.9%). Biden’s annualized return passed Trump’s in April 2024, as well.
The stock market’s performance is being ignored partly because Democrats tend to underplay the role of the stock market as an indication of economic health because they recognize it is not the only important way to think about the economy. But since he took office, Biden has also had to contend with the constant stream of outrageous news coming from the radical right.
Today is no exception. Indeed, today’s news is among the most shocking that we’ve had since Biden took office.
Yesterday evening, Jodi Kantor of the New York Times reported that in the days before Biden’s inauguration, an upside-down American flag flew in front of Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito’s home. A U.S. flag flown upside down is a universal symbol of distress. In the days after the January 6, 2021, insurrection, Trump loyalists flew the upside-down flag as a symbol of “the impending death of the nation and a call to arms,” according to American studies professor Matthew Guterl.
Leading scholar of the American right Kathleen Belew explained on social media that the upside-down flag was “not just signifying that the election was ‘stolen.’ The inverted flag means the country has been overthrown (to many, if not most, on the right). This is a profound act of symbolism and appalling at the home of a Supreme Court Justice.”
For Alito to fly it was an indication that he was part of the insurrection.
In September 2021, Trump loyalist lawyer Sidney Powell, who was part of the team trying to get the results of the 2020 presidential election overturned, told a right-wing talk show host that while rioters were attacking the Capitol, she and her team were trying to get an emergency injunction to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s victory.
“We were filing a 12th Amendment constitutional challenge to the process that the Congress was about to use under the Electoral Act provisions that simply don’t jive [sic] with the 12th Amendment to the United States Constitution,” she said. “And Justice Alito was our circuit justice for that.”
The plan was thwarted, she said, when then-House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reconvened Congress and certified Biden’s win that night. “[S]he really had to speed up reconvening Congress to get the vote going before Justice Alito might have issued an injunction to stop it all, which is what should have happened,” Powell said.
Senate Judiciary Committee chair Dick Durbin (D-IL) said today that “Justice Alito should recuse himself immediately from cases related to the 2020 election and the January 6th insurrection, including the question of the former President's immunity in U.S. v. Donald Trump, which the Supreme Court is currently considering. The Court is in an ethical crisis of its own making, and Justice Alito and the rest of the Court should be doing everything in their power to regain public trust.”
House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) also called for Alito to recuse himself from cases involving the 2020 election and Trump.
The potential for Alito to destroy our country in order to restore Trump to the presidency has continued. Along with Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, whose wife Ginni was in both sympathy and communication with the others trying to overturn the results of the election, as well as the three extremist justices Trump appointed, Alito has been part of a court that has delayed its decision about whether Trump can be tried on criminal charges for conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election for so long that Trump likely has won his gambit to avoid trial before the 2024 election.
When Trump claimed last October that he could not be prosecuted, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is overseeing his trial, rejected the argument in December. Trump appealed, and Special Counsel Jack Smith asked the Supreme Court to decide the case immediately. The Supreme Court refused. Then, after a three-judge panel of a federal appeals court unanimously affirmed Chutkan’s ruling in a February 2024 decision that legal observers praised as “thorough and compelling,” Trump appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court then accepted his appeal and scheduled oral arguments for late April, more than a month after the original trial date set by Judge Chutkan.
The result of all this delay, former federal prosecutor Ankush Khardori wrote in Politico last month, is “that a question whose answer was obvious back in December is unlikely to get that answer from the Supreme Court until its session ends in June.” “If the Court hadn’t intervened, we would already have a verdict in the January 6 case,” political strategist Michael Podhorzer wrote, “and we don’t know whether the Court would have decided to intervene without Thomas and Alito.”
When the story of Alito’s misuse of the flag broke, the justice explained himself to Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream. He blamed his wife, Martha-Ann Alito, for flying the flag, saying she had hung it up in response to a “F*** Trump” sign that was “within 50 feet of where children await the school bus in Jan[uary] 21.” He said that the neighbors are “very political” and had had “words” with the Alitos that had upset Mrs. Alito.
While Justice Alito blamed his wife for the flag, he could hardly have missed seeing it above his house. Former Chicago Tribune editor Mark Jacob wrote: “When I was an editor at the Chicago Tribune, I would’ve been in trouble if I’d let my wife put a political bumper sticker on our car. But a Supreme Court justice’s home can fly a flag of insurrection and he’s still allowed to rule on whether the head insurrectionist has immunity.”
The deputy chief of staff for Representative Don Beyer (D-VA), who represents the town in which the Alitos live, noted that the local schools were all remote in January 2021 because of the pandemic. “No children were waiting for buses,” he noted. Legal analyst Elie Mystal added: “Sam Alito running to Fox News to explain how…he’s not politically motivated at all…is an under-appreciated part of this ongoing ethical disaster.”
It would be bad enough for a Supreme Court justice to announce a partisan preference. But, as David Kurtz wrote this morning at Talking Points Memo, Alito’s embrace of the insurrectionist flag “was a bold declaration of affinity for and alignment with the smoldering insurrection led by a president of the same party that had just been put down but which still loomed as a threat to civic order, the peaceful transfer of power (which at that point had still not yet happened), and the rule of law.”
The call is coming from inside the house.

2024.05.18 09:49 VRcat-BotCreator My observations of how the recent new JAI intelligence update changed JAI

Hello I am a bot creator, here is my JAI profile. I just personally playtested all my bots, about 96 of them, after the JAI update was released a week or two ago. As in I opened up all of them one by one, chatted with them, and tried to fix/correct all the bots after the update, as well as refined them given my skills have improved. These are just my observations, I am just a small random creator, so a lot of smarter people probably have better insight into all of this.
These are the observations I have about the effects of the update. Granted, I don’t really use long first messages, so I can’t really tell how the update has affected first message influence in bot generation of responses.
I think the creativity boosted significantly, and the AI seems to be drawing more from more data than before, so it says more interesting things you wouldn't expect. Like you can write one personality line, and in the past, the AI would be able to hallucinate 4 fun things with that line, and now it can do 7...something like that.
The power of example dialogue was nerfed significantly, so it isn't as strong in influencing how the responses play out as much, although if you mention stuff in the example dialogue, like orcs or whatever, then orcs are more likely to show up, but it is less likely to alter substantially the structure of the response, if that makes sense.
If in the past you relied heavily on example dialogue for how your bot function correctly, then your bot may not be working as well now because of the updates. Several of my bots relied on example dialogue to work correctly, so when the power of example dialogue was nerfed, they started going berserk. So I had to re-program the equivalent of what the example dialogue did onto the personality lines for it to work again. This specifically happened on my math test bot, where the example dialogues explained how to process the addition/subtraction equations; once the new update happened, that broke, and I had to teach the bot instead in the personality lines how to process math.
The way new JAI interprets personality lines appear more strict and literal. For example, in the past, when you code a bot to be frigid nancy to you, the bot will eventually warm up to you within a couple responses, if you keep at it.
Not so in new JAI. If you code her to be very platonic with you, she will be much harder to crack. Multiple slow burn bots of mine broke cuz of this. They completely refuse all romantic stuff, even with multiple wooing. So what I did was add lines like "She wants a deeper, closer relationship" on top of the stuff about her seeing you as just a friend. If you don't add that line, and you coded her as a friend, she will be much more hardass at friendzoning you.
Another example about literal/strict thing: you kind of have to spell it out sometimes what char should do. Meaning if you go on and on about what char likes and dislikes and whatnot, but don't really clearly spell out what it should EXACTLY do, then speaking for user is more likely to happen.
So speaking for user isn't really something that is inherent on all bots, like every bot has a certain percentage chance of it happening. Far from it. Certain bots have personality lines/first message that predispose speaking for user to happen, and certain other bots do not.
In new JAI, speaking for user spiked in 20 percent of my bots, and this phenomenon also appears to have been seen by other creators I talked to as well. So...replay your old bots, you may see this. You will see this VERY quickly, within 1-2 responses, it will be very clear. You have to rearrange some things on personality lines for it to die down. It is cuz the way the bot interprets personality lines is different now; but it isn't a fatal issue, you just have to rearrange some stuff, I was able to fix most of my bots with some minor fixes. It isn't an issue of increasing speaking for user overall, more that certain ways that personality lines are written are causing it to more likely to happen.
(Aside: Speaking for user usually occurs because the bot doesn't know how to navigate the situation you created with your typed responses with ONLY using char, so it borrows user to move the plot/implement what you just typed in. This is why if you type in "I spoke kindly to her", speaking for user goes up like crazy: cuz the bot has zero idea how to implement "I spoke kindly to her" without involving user, it MUST involve user, so it will type out a bot response that describes what user says in the next response. But if you type in a response that seems to want draw from the databanks of char, such as "How are you doing today?", then speaking for user is MUCH less likely to happen, cuz the info needed to implement the user response is primarily in the char's databanks. However, I do find the new JAI is much better at pulling out of "speaking for user" phase and back to normal with subsequent responses.
This is why I often end my first messages with a question that primes for user to want to type a response that seeks data from char, such as the bot saying in the first message, "Can I ask you something?" "Your sister is so mean to me", "Are you here to rob me?". Because that encourages user to type something on the first user response like "Sure, go ahead" "Tell me", "GIVE ME ALL YOUR CASH!" and that will then lead to the first bot response being something that draws info from char, rather than speaking for user stuff. Even if user ignores my priming and goes rogue and says some crazy, random shit, just having the first message include something like "Can I tell ask you something?" will make the bot think char should tell something to user on its first bot response, regardless of what user says: using these phrases is PRIMING bot to not speak for user. Because if you can escape speaking for user in the first bot response, it really decrease the chances of speaking for user from happening in the rest of the chat; I think speaking for user is especially more likely to happen in the first bot message, and that once you get the bot chat dialogue going, then its risk is less, as user and chat settle into a groove of back and forth; that initial one is when you still don't know how to engage the bot quite yet, so I want to safely push you to that back and forth groove as soon as possible, with lower chances of speaking for user)
OK, so now that I talked a bit about speaking for user, why does it occur more in other situations for new JAI? Well as I said, new JAI is more literal: it sometimes needs you to spell it out what Amy needs to do. Like if you say "Amy likes user", JAI isn't quite as sure how to implement that. If you write "Amy wants to get know user more", then it will have a better understanding of what it is supposed to do. The more you flood the personality lines with concrete things the bot should do, the more likely the responses won't have speaking for user; because the bot has more tools to navigate any situation that happens, instead of being like "I dunno what to do with this situation with Amy, so I will borrow user instead". Again, because new JAI is more literal, it needs you to spell out more lines detailing what it should do, so it knows to use that tool; in the past, I think JAI was less literal, so it was more able to navigate situations without requiring the creator to spell out each tool it can use so clearly.
Even something simple, like "Amy wants to get more intimate with user", will give JLLM something to work with, something to fill the response lines; because with an absence of info/data, it will just use "speaking for user" to basically just pad out the response like a college student's essay, or as a more viable vehicle to use the char data it does have to move the scene forward
With new JAI, shakesperan language appears to decrease, and the bot's ability to transition from one situation/setting/dynamic of discussions (such as introducing or removing a character) to another without devolving into "and they lived lives of happiness and sadness" appears to have decreased overall, so you can continue your roleplay. I see multiple times where the bot briefly goes into Shakespearean gibberish, and then miraculously, the bot pulls itself out of it and goes back to normal, without my intervention, whereas in past JAI, it is more like if Shakespearean language starts happening, you are pretty much hit the “game over” screen and need to restart the game.
(Aside: Shakespearean language also doesn't just spontaneously combust in all bots inevitably. Oftentimes, certain things make it more likely to happen. If you write a bunch of personality lines that the bot has no idea how to implement using char alone, and the bot thinks it MUST implement that personality line, then it will use Shakespearan language to basically say, "OK I did what you said boss, it doesn't look pretty, but at least I did it". If you say on personality lines that "Always include bickering between the siblings" or whatever, and the bot has no idea how to include a funny unique description/event of such a thing in that response, it will just do some vague Shakespearean language thing like "And in the background, the siblings constantly bicker about things that are sad and angry". You can often pinpoint which personality line caused the Shakespearean language, you just have to search for it. And also, as described above, when the basic powescene dynamics of the scene switches, Shakespearean language always crops up; I think this is some weird way for JLLM to pad out responses cuz scene transitions make it confused what to do, so it pad it out with some junk)
And the quality of the writing in new JAI is so so much better, much more entertaining to read, much more like a skilled author writing it, it is insane, and completely unrivaled.
Also, I find that certain bots in the new JAI are more likely to ramble on and on, usually the dominant bots. If they keep on rambling and rambling and the response gets cut off, try deleting some words that say things like "constantly" or "nonstop" or things that encourage things to never end and keep going. Deleting those key select phrases/words will keep the response succinct and not crazy long and cutting off. I used this to fix like 3 of my dominant bots, it totally works.
Overall, JAI is unparalleled in giving insane AI roleplay: I have tried multiple other sites, and they are not even close to JAI’s brilliance, smartness, creativity. I love this site, it has given me countless hours of fun, and love how nice the mods are here, and how nice the community here is.
Let’s make more stories!!!

2024.05.18 01:40 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 105 inmates executed by Florida since the 1970s and their crimes (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 1, cases 1 to 52]

Here is my list of Florida's post Furman execution roster that I wrote for my personal death penalty project. To be clear, the dates given here are a loose timeframe of an offender's first known criminal activities (including misdemeanors and delinquent activities) to their executions, and not at all their years on death row. In a large number of death penalty cases, the offenders were committing high level felonies, even other murders in extreme cases like Ted Bundy, well before the murders that condemned them. I wanted to encapsulate the earlier known or suspected offenses in order to express the scope and scale of their crimes.
As a warning, due how the death penalty is utilized in the United States, many of the surveyed crimes are extremely graphic by nature. Please read at your own risk. On a different note, Florida is the last currently completed list. I'm still working on Texas, and as of now finished 484 entries out of the state's 587 cases to date.
As with my lists for Missouri, Virginia, and Oklahoma, reddit's character limitations forced me to split Florida's roster into two parts. Here is the link to part 2.
The currently 105 executed offenders, cases 1 to 52:
1. John Spenkelink (~1972-1979, electric chair): While on the run after escaping from a Californian prison, Spenkelink picked up 45 year old Joseph Szymankiewicz while he was hitchhiking. Like Spenkelink, Szymankiewicz was a career criminal, and had a conviction for murdering a owner of a furniture store during a robbery. They went on a nationwide crime spree together, but Spenkelink shot Szymankiewicz and disemboweled him with a hatchet while he was asleep in a hotel room. He claimed that the killing was done to protect himself from a sexual assault and being forced to play Russian Roulette, but this was rejected by the courts. Spenkelink had several previous convictions of armed robberies, some of which he was serving when he escaped from California.
2. Robert Sullivan (1973-1983, electric chair): Sullivan and his accomplice abducted 38 year old Donald Schmidt from a Howard Johnson's he managed. They bound Schmidt's hands behind his back, and drove him to a remote swamp in the Everglades. He was beaten with a tire iron and shot four times in the head. The pair then took Schmdit's watch and his credit cards from his body.
3. Anthony Antone (~1970s-1984, electric chair): Antone, a high ranking mobster, was hired by a crime boss to arrange the murder of Richard Cloud, a 33 year old private detective. He arranged for two of his associates to gun down Cloud on his own front porch. Although he wasn't directly present at the crime itself, Antone bore the harshest penalties due to his employer and one of his triggermen committing suicide in custody and the surviving triggerman agreeing to testify against him.
4. Arthur Goode III (~1960s-1984, electric chair): Goode lured 9 year old Jason VerDow into a forest, and raped and strangled him to death. The next day, he abducted Billy Arthe, a 10 year old Guatemalan immigrant, and took him on a journey to Washington D.C. On their way through Virginia, Goode kidnapped 11 year old Kenny Dawson. Both boys were sexually abused, and he strangled Dawson to death with a belt in front of Arthe. Arthe was rescued when a passing woman recognized him from the news coverages. Good was notorious for being a shameless pedophile who openly flaunted and defended his predations of young boys to any listening ears. When he acted as his own attorney during the proceedings for VerDow's murder, Goode's defense entirely hinged on pedophila apologetics and advocacy. He started victimizing younger boys in his early teens, and dealt with several accusations of sexual assault throughout high school. His execution was somewhat controversial, as Goode was cognitively disabled and had the mentality of a young child.
5. James Adams (~1962-1984, electric chair): During a burglary of a ranch, Adams beat the owner, 61 year old Edgar Brown, to death with a firepoker stick. Several of the undisclosed items Adams stole in the robbery were discovered in his wife's car. Prior to the murder, Adams had a rape conviction that gave him a 99 year sentence, but he managed to escape from prison.
6. Carl Shriner (~1962-1984, electric chair): Shriner shot and killed Judith Carter, a 32 year old clerk, while robbing a convenience store. He was involved with petty crimes since he was 8 years old, and Shriner was on parole for armed robbery at the time of the murder.
7. David Washington (1976-1984, electric chair): Washington started his crime spree by fatally stabbing a minister, 69 year old Daniel Pridgen, during a robbery of his home. A few days later, he broke into a home that had 64 year old Katrina Birk and her 3 sister in laws inside. He tied up all four women, and stabbed and shot them. Birk was killed, but her sister in laws survived with crippling injuries. The day after Birk's murder, Washington and his accomplices kidnapped 20 year old Frank Meli from a university, tied him to a bed, and tried extorting a ransom from his family. When that failed, he stabbed his captive to death. In his 10 day long murder and robbery spree, Washington stole jewelry, a car, an undisclosed amount of some money from Pridgen, and $8 from Birk and her sister in laws.
8. Ernest Dobbert Jr. (1972-1984, electric chair): Dobbert routinely tortured his children with beatings, poking their eyes with his fingers, dunking their heads in bathtubs, and burnings with cigarette lighters. Two of them, 9 year old Kelly and 7 year old Ryder, were strangled to death during one of his daily beatings and torture sessions.
9. James Henry (~1965-1984, electric chair): Henry invaded the home of Zellie Riley, a 81 year old Civil Rights activist. He tied up and gagged Riley, slit his throat with a razor blade, and stole $64. A few days later, Henry shot and wounded detective Ronald Ferguson in a confrontation. He previously shot and injured a man in one incident and non fatally stabbed a man in another, and alleged in both cases that the circumstances were self defense. However, the apparent victims made identical claims that Henry was trying to rob them.
10. Timothy Palmes (1976-1984, electric chair): Palmes used his girlfriend to lure her employer, a 41 year old furniture store owner named James Stone, to her apartment and knocked him unconscious with a hammer. Palmes and his other accomplice, Ronald Straight, bound him with wire and locked Stone in a wooden box they specifically made for him. They tortured their captive by slowly cutting his fingers off, and stabbed him 18 times with a machete and knife. The trio dumped Stone's body (which was still trapped in the box) into a river and stole his watch, car, and $2,800 from his store. Palmes tried to blame the killing entirely on his girlfriend, but she was granted immunity in exchange for testifying against him and Straight.
11. James Raulerson (1975-1985, electric chair): Raulerson and his accomplice robbed a restaurant at gunpoint, and raped one of the female employees. When the responding officers arrived at the scene, the pair engaged in a shootout with them. Both Raulerson's accomplice and a policeman, 23 year old Michael Stewart, were killed in the skirmish.
12. Johnny Witt (1973-1985, electric chair): Witt and his accomplice frequently stalked random people they could in the woods, as they were thrilled by the prospect of hunting other human beings. On a whim, the pair ambushed 11 year old Jonathan Kushner while he was riding his bike. They incapacitated Kushner by hitting him in the head with a drill star bit and gagged him. After they tossed him in the back of their truck, Kushner suffocated on the gag. Witt and his accomplice then cut the boy's stomach open to prevent bloating, engaged in intercourse with his body, and buried Kushner in a shallow grave.
13. Marvin Francois (1977-1985, electric chair): During what is now called the "Carol City massacre", Francois and two other men, Beauford White and John Ferguson, forced their way into a drug house. They tied up the 8 men and women inside (who were all between 24-45 years old), and shot them all in the head. Only two of the victims, 45 year old Johnnie Hall and 24 year old Margaret Wooden, survived. A total of $800 was stolen in the attack. Accomplice Ferguson (who was executed in 2013) also committed a series of unrelated murders that Francois wasn't involved with. These crimes are discussed in depth under Ferguson’s section (case 78) in Part 2 of this list.
14. Daniel Thomas (1976-1986, electric chair): Thomas and his accomplices, dubbed the "Ski Mask Gang" by the media, went on a rampage that involved the burglaries of 16 homes and the rapes of 5 women. The husband of one of those women, 49 year old Charles Anderson, was shot dead in an attempt to protect her. Other murders attributed to the Gas Mask Gang include 20 year old Henry Kersey (shot to death while trying to defend his wife, who was then tossed off a bridge) and 70 year old Tessie Henderson (succumbed to injuries received in a beating). Another woman was blinded after members of the Ski Mask Gang poured liquid plumber into her eyes.
15. David Funchess (1973-1986, electric chair): Fuchess was fired from a liquor store due to the owners suspecting him of stealing money. A year later, he assaulted his former workplace with a knife. He stabbed two employees, 62 year old Bertha McLeod and 52 year old Anna Waldrop, and a customer, 56 year old Clayton Ragan. Waldrop and Ragan were killed at the scene, while McLeod died from complications relating to her injuries two years after the attack. Fuchess left the store with several canceled checks that total around $6,000. He had several misdemeanors and minor felonies on his previous record that included theft, loitering, obstructing traffic, public intoxication, and disturbing the peace. Fuchess also attracted some public sympathy due to him being a Vietnam combat veteran that was diagnosed with PTSD.
16. John Straight (1976-1986, electric chair): As mentioned in Timothy Palmes' section, Straight took part in the torture murder of David Stone, and the robbery of his furniture store.
17. Beauford White (~1963-1987, electric chair): White was another participant in the "Carol City massacre" that the previously mentioned Marvin Francois was involved in. He had a lengthy criminal history dating back to the 1960s, and one of his past convictions was related to an attempted rape.
18. Willie Darden (~1970s-1988, electric chair): Darden was convicted of the shooting death of 54 year old James Turman and the non fatal shooting of a 16 year old neighbor while robbing Turman's Furniture Store. Turman's wife was also raped in the robbery. Some supporters had citied that he was tried by an all white jury, and used it to push a narrative that Darden, a black man, was condemned out of racism. He had several previous convictions, which included assault, forgery, theft, and the attempted rape of a 70 year old woman. Darden was on furlough for the latter conviction during the time of Turman's murder.
19. Jeffrey Daugherty (1976-1988, electric chair): While on a road trip with his uncle and girlfriend, Daugherty murdered at least 4 women and one man, 68 year old Carmen Abrams, 50 year old Betty Campbell, 49 year old Lavonne Sailer, 28 year old Elizabeth Shank, and 18 year old George Karns. The victims were slain through either shootings or stabbings at grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants they worked at, but Sailer was attacked while hitchhiking. Daugherty mostly murdered for personal enjoyment, but he often stole coins, clothes, and watches from the victims.
20. Theodore Bundy (~1970s(?)-1989, electric chair): Across multiple states, Bundy kidnapped, raped, and murdered a bare minimum of ~20-36 females between the ages of 12-26. Although his true body count is uncertain and heavily disputed, most experts agree that it well exceeds official estimates. Bundy's abduction tactics were diverse, and ranged from grabbing targets by force, pretending to be a cripple in need of help, posing as emergency workers, seduction, and luring them in through hitchhiking. On some occasions, Bundy broke into the residences of victims, and assaulted them in their bedrooms. After an abduction, the victims were bound with handcuffs, raped while they were alive, and he engaged in acts of necrophila with their bodies. Most of his killing methods were strangulations with cords or beatings with tire irons and other blunt instruments. Several victims were also decapitated, and he kept their heads as trophies. Bundy disposed of corpses by dumping them in deserts, mountains, swamps, and other remote wilderness environments accessible to him.
21. Aubrey Adams Jr. (1978-1989, electric chair): Adams lured 8 year old Trisa Thomley into his car by offering her a ride home from school. He tied the girl up and dragged her to a remote forest. She was then raped and suffocated with a plastic bag.
22. Jesse Tafero (~1960s-1990, electric chair): A pair of patrolmen, 39 year old Phillip Black and 39 year old Donald Irwin (who was also a Canadian constable), found Tafero sleeping in his car with his wife, their children (which consisted of a 9 year old son and a 10 month old daughter), and a friend. What exactly occurred next is heavily disputed, but Tafero or his friend shot both officers dead, after they noticed a gun on the dashboard and asked the group to climb out. The group then fled in a police car, disposed of it, and kidnapped a man to carjack him. Tafero's execution was controversial, as his head caught on fire during the electrocution, and his supporters cited evidence of his friend (who was sentenced to life, but was released in 1994 on good behavior) being the triggerman in the shootings. He also had a long history of armed robbery, rape, and sodomy. Tafero's wife was initially condemned for the murder, but her sentence was reduced to 25 years to life on appeal in 1981, and was released with an Alford Plea in 1992.
23. Anthony Bertolotti (1983-1990, electric chair): Bertolotti enticed 46 year old Carol Ward into his home with the promise of helping her make a phone call. He held Ward at knife point, demanded money, and raped her. She was stabbed to death during the assault, and Bertolotti drove away with her car. In the trial, Bertolotti alleged that Ward offered him sex in exchange for stopping the robbery, and used it to claim that his angry girlfriend made him kill her for it.
24. James Hamblen (1984-1990, electric chair): Hamblen shot and killed 34 year old Laureen Edwards during a robbery of her store. Despite forcing Edwards to disrobe, Hamblen left he unmolested. He then fled to Texas and quickly started a relationship with 20 year old Debbie Abbott. A month later, Hamblen shot Abbott dead during a heated argument.
25. Raymond Clark (~1964-1990, electric chair): In 1964, Clark beat Marshell Taylor, his landlord's 14 year old son that he groomed and abused, to death with a pipe. After his parole at an undisclosed date in the 70s, Clark groomed another 14 year old boy into an illicit relationship. He recruited him in the abduction of David Drake, a 49 year scrap dealer. With the boy's help, he kidnapped their victim at gunpoint with the intentions of ransoming him back to his family. The pair forced Drake to write them a $5,000 check, and shot him in the head. When he wasn't able to cash in the check, Clark dropped his accomplice off at his home to avoid being charged with the boy's kidnapping, fled to California, and tried to trick Drake's family into paying his ransom. However, a series of calls was traced to his accomplice, and he implicated Clark to the police.
26. Roy Harich (1981-1991, electric chair): Harich kidnapped two teenage girls, 18 year old Carlene Kelly and 17 year old Deborah Miller, after luring them into his van from a beach. The pair were then both sexually assaulted. He shot Kelly dead, slit Miller's throat, and dumped them on a highway. Miller survived the attack and dragged herself to safety.
27. Bobby Francis (~1970s-1991, electric chair): Suspecting him of being a police informant against his drug trafficking enterprise, Francis abducted 35 year old Titus Walters. He tied him up and forcibly injected drano and battery acid into his body for a span of two hours. Despite Walters' pleas for his life, Francis shot him in the head and heart.
28. Nollie Martin (1977-1992, electric chair): Martin and his accomplice robbed a convenience store at knifepoint, stole $90, and kidnapped the clerk, 19 year old Patricia Greenfield. She was then raped and stabbed to death by her captors.
29. Edward Kennedy (~1977-1992, electric chair): In 1977, Kennedy and some partners shot and killed 33 year old Robert Brown, during a robbery of a motel. He was given a life sentence for the murder. Four years later, Kennedy escaped from prison. While on the run, he broke into a house in hopes of stealing money and guns. The homeowner, 32 year old Floyd Cone Jr. returned home with his cousin, 35 year old Robert McDermon (who worked as a state trooper), and unwittingly intercepted Kennedy. He shot them both dead, fled to a neighboring home, and took a 21 year old woman and her 4 month old son hostage. After a hour long standoff, Kennedy released his captives and surrendered himself to the police.
30. Robert Henderson (~1964-1998, electric chair): In December of 1982, Henderson went on a month long rampage across 6 states. He raped, robbed, and murdered a total of 12 people between the ages of 11-79 through shootings. Three of the victims where his wife's parents, 61 year old Ivan and 57 year old Marie Barnett, and her 11 year old brother Clifford. A few other victims were women, like 50 year old Dorothy Wilkinson, 37 year old Cheryl McDonald, 30 year old Jerilyn Stanfield, and 21 year old Lucinda Russell, that were kidnapped from their workplaces and homes and raped. A couple more were men, such as 79 year old Murray Ferderbe and 61 year old Sam Corrent, that he killed while robbing their homes and businesses. Henderson's last remaining murders were a trio of hitchhikers, 27 year old Vernon Odom, 23 year old Frances Dickey, and 18 year old Robert Dawson, that he killed together. Last but not least, Henderson bound an unidentified woman and her 12 year old daughter at gunpoint during a break in of their home. After Henderson raped the mother, he tried to do the same to her daughter. The mother then broke free from her restraints, and chased him away from her home. Contemporary media reports noted that the mother "fought harder for her daughter then she did for herself." Henderson had prior convictions of growing marijuana, assaulting officers, and stealing license plates.
31. Larry Johnson (1979-1993, electric chair): During the robbery of a gas station, Johnson shot and killed the clerk, 67 year old James Hadden. Like David Funchess, Johnson enjoyed a considerable amount of public sympathy due to him being a combat veteran of the Vietnam War.
32. Michael Durocher (1983-1993, electric chair): In 1983, Durocher made an agreement with his girlfriend, 31 year old Grace Reed, to conduct a murder-suicide pact involving her 5 year old daughter Candace and their 6 month old son Joshua. Although he shot and stabbed them all to death, Durocher backed out of his end of the pact. He later shot dead 27 year old Thomas Underwood while robbing a decorating story in 1986, and beat his roommate, 38 year old Edward Childers, to death during an argument in 1988.
33. Roy Stewart (1978-1994, electric chair): 77 year old Margaret Haizlip invited Stewart into her home. When she caught Stewart stealing a gold watch from her medicine drawer, Haizlip tried to evict him. In the confrontation, Stewart raped and strangled her to death with an electrical cord. Her body was found with 8 broken ribs, a fractured larynx, bite marks on her thighs and breasts, several contusions, and a torn vagina.
34. Bernard Bolender (~1970s-1995, electric chair): In a drug deal gone wrong, Bolender and two accomplices abducted their dealers, 39 year old John Merino, 38 year old Rudy Ayan, 33 year old Nicomedes Hernandez, and 25 year old Scott Bennett, at gunpoint, and robbed them of their jewelry. All four men were beaten with baseball bats, stabbed, and burned with heated knifes to extort an additional source of cocaine from them. Most of the hostages died in the 2 hour long torture session, but Merino was still alive when Bolender burned him and the other hostages' bodies in a car. Although most of his criminal history is murky, Bolender was heavily involved in the drug trade during the 1970s at the bare minimum.
35. Jerry White (~1962-1995, electric chair): White robbed a grocery store, and held the owner, 53 year old Alex Alexander, and a trio of customers (which consisted of 34 year old James Melson, an unidentified man, and the man's 12 year old daughter) at gunpoint. He shot and killed Melson, wounded Alexander, and tried forcing the father and daughter into a freezer. When the pair refused, White tried to shot them, but his gun misfired. The man and his daughter were able to flee with their lives and called the police, while White ran off with $338. White had 9 previous convictions, which included attempted murder, armed robbery, theft, and burglary, and was first arrested at the age of 14.
36. Phillip Atkins (1981-1995, electric chair): Atkins kidnapped 6 year old Antonio Castillo and molested him in a forest. When Castillo threatened to tell his parents about the abuse, Atkins bludgeoned him to death with a pipe.
37. John Bush (~1970s-1996, electric chair): Bush and three other men kidnapped 18 year old Frances Slater from a gas station she worked as a clerk at. They stabbed her to death and stole $100 from the register. Slater's murder attracted national attention due to her being the granddaughter and heiress of renowned singer Frances Langford and the outboard motor mongrel Ralph Evinrude. Bush's previous convictions include rape and robbery.
38. John Mills Jr. (1982-1996, electric chair): Mills and his accomplice tied up and abducted 30 year old Les Lawhon after ransacking his trailer for any valuables. They took him to a nearby abandoned airport to hideout. Lawhon then was beaten with a tire iron and shot in the head execution style.
39. Pedro Medina (1982-1997, electric chair): Medina tied up and gagged 52 year old Dorothy James in her home. He stabbed her to death and stole her car, which he was captured sleeping in by investigating police officers. His execution was a source of controversy, as Medina's head burst into flames as he was electrocuted on the chair. Medina's case and similar incidents led to Florida gradually phasing out of the electric chair in favor of lethal injection.
40. Gerald Stano (~1960s-1998, electric chair): Stano was convicted of murdering 22 women and girls between the ages of 12-35, though he admitted to 41, and is suspected of a total of 88 killings. His victims were all lured with promises of rides, payment for sexual favors, or abducted through force. The methods he used were diverse, and included drownings, shootings, stabbings, and strangulations. Most of the sources noted that none of his victims were raped, and that Stano seemed to have murdered out of an enjoyment for killing. As a child, Stano was charged with fasley pulling fire alarms at school and throwing rocks at cars. He was also fired for stealing from coworkers in one of his jobs.
41. Leo Jones (1981-1998, electric chair): Supposedly out of revenge for being brutalized by policemen, Jones was convicted of killing Thomas Szafranski, a 28 year old officer, in a sniper attack. Szafranski was driving his patrol car when he was ambushed and murdered. His execution was contested, as Jones claimed that he was coerced into confessing by investigators through beatings, and one of the apparent witnesses allegedly recounted his testimony.
42. Judy Buenoano (~1957-1998, electric chair): Over the course of 11 years, Buenoano poisoned her husband, 32 year old James Goodyear, her son, 19 year old Michael, and her boyfriend, 39 year old Bobby Morris with arsenic to collect their life insurance policies. She also made an attempt to poison another boyfriend after he was injured in a suspicious explosion, but was foiled by a police investigation. As a young girl, Buenoano assaulted her father, stepmother, and stepbrothers, and served a two month sentence for it.
43. Daniel Remeta (1985-1998, electric chair): Remeta and his accomplices shot and killed 5 people, 60 year old Mehrle Reeder, 55 year old Glenn Moore, 42 year old Linda Marvin, 29 year old John Schroeder, and 27 year old Larry McFarland, across Kansas, Arkansas, and Florida. The victims were all murdered in convenience store, restaurant, and gas station robberies.
44. Allen Davis (~1970s-1999, electric chair): Davis broke into a home with the intentions of raping 9 year old Kristina Weiler. Although no sexual assault occurred, Davis tied Kristina up and shot her in the head. He also struck her pregnant mother, 37 year old Nancy, 25 times on her head and face with his pistol, and left the body "bruised beyond recognition." When Kristina's sister, 5 year old Katherine, tried to escape, Davis shot and bludgeoned her to death. He then sacked the home for any belongings. Davis was a long time felon, and had several previous convictions of burglary, child molestation, and involuntary manslaughter. His execution caused significant controversy, as his nose bled all over his body during the fatal shocks, and he suffered burns to his legs, head, and groin. The backlash, combined with other botched incidents like Pedroa Medina and Jesse Tafero, resulted in Florida replacing the electric chair with lethal injection.
45. Terry Sims (1977-2000, lethal injection): George Pfeil, a 57 year old deputy and WW2 veteran, walked into a pharmacy that Sims and his 3 accomplices were robbing, to pick up a prescription. Upon seeing what was happening, Pfeil pulled out his gun and engaged the robbers, but was killed by them in the shootout. Although Sims was injured, he managed to escape the scene, and was captured a month later while trying to carry out another robbery in California.
46. Anthony Bryan (1983-2000, lethal injection): Bryan and his accomplice kidnapped a night watchman, 60 year old George Wilson, and used his keys to rob a bank he guarded. They drove Wilson to a remote forest and shot him in the head. The pair dumped his body in a creek and drove their car into a lake to destroy any evidence.
47. Bennie Demps (~1971-2000, lethal injection): Demps received his first death sentence in 1971 when he shot and killed a real estate agent, 54 year old Robert Brinkworth, and his client, 64 year old Celia Puhlick, while the victims were trying to engage in a house sale. He also wounded Celia's husband, 62 year old Nicholas, and stole a safe from the house. However, his first death sentence was lifted from the brief nationwide capital punishment ban from the Furman decision. Two years after his first death sentence was commuted, Demps was given a second death sentence when he fatally stabbed another inmate, 23 year old Alfred Sturgis, on the behalf of the Perjury Incorporated prison gang. Sturgis was in prison for murder, and he was targeted due to Perjury Incorporated's suspicions of him of being an informant.
48. Thomas Provenzano (1984-2000, lethal injection): In retaliation for being charged for disorderly conduct months earlier, Provenzano stormed a courthouse, and shot and killed Arnold Wilkerson, a 60 year old deputy that was a veteran of WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, on the scene. Two more policemen, 53 year old Harry Dalton Jr. and 19 year old Mark Parker, were also hit by gunfire, and they both died from complications relating to their injuries years after the attack.
49. Dan Hauser (1995-2000, lethal injection): Out of a desire to kill somebody, Huser enticed a stripper, 21 year old Melanie Rodrigues, into a motel room with the promise of payment for sexual services. After they had intercourse, he strangled her to death. Hauser was also caught stealing a truck months before the murder.
50. Edward Castro (1986-2000, lethal injection): Castro lured three homosexual men, 57 year old Austin Scott, 50 year old George Hill, and 46 year old Claude Henderson, from gay bars. The victims were all tied up and stabbed to death in their homes. After each killing, Castro left with valuables such as cars, watches, rings, money, and wallets.
51. Robert Glock II (1983-2001, lethal injection): Glock kidnapped 34 year old Sharilyn Ritchie from a mall parking lot and forced her to withdraw $100 from an ATM. He then drove Ritchie to a forest 60 miles away and shot her in the head. Ritchie's wedding ring and purse was also stolen in the attack.
52. Rigoberto Sanchez-Velasco (1986-2002, lethal injection): Sanchez-Velasco raped and fatally strangled Katixa Ecenarro, his girlfriend's 11 year old daughter. While awaiting execution for Ecenarro's murder, Sanchez-Velasco got into a fight with fellow condemned inmates, 41 year old Charles Street and 30 year old Edwin Kaprat, and stabbed them both to death. Kaprat received a death sentence for the sexual abuse and torture-killings of 4 elderly women, while Street was sentenced to death for the shooting murders of two police officers.

This is a story about a PhD particle physicist who hates liars and scammers in the trading world so much that he built an investment grade stock analysis platform.
Why? To give you a shot against hedge funds who move their market to their whim.
How? He is using his math and physics skills to build unique algos to help you with your investment decision. Oh, he's also tracking politician's portfolios :)
What? He built a really cool and simple platform & community for small and medium investors to get an edge in the market.
How much? Not sure if you're going to believe it, but there's a free version. And the paid version is... wait for it... $10 a month. I kid you not! Here's his story 👇
Meet Dr. Muslem Rahimi, a PhD in particle physics with a strong self-deprecating humor and an inspiring man with a unique perspective on the world.
Imagine a blend of Richard Feynman’s curiosity, Jim Simons passion for trading algos, William Wallace’s fierce determination and you have Dr. Rahimi.
A self-proclaimed "Chief of Nothing" at stocknear.com, his journey from the realm of physics to building stock analysis algos rivaling billion dollar institutions is as intriguing as the man himself.
From Particle Physics to Stock Algos
With a PhD in theoretical particle physics, prior to Stocknear, he was developing models to describe New Physics — phenomena that extend beyond our current understanding of the universe. That’s his Feynman part.
But physics isn’t his only passion. Financial markets winked at him and tickled his curiosity due to their immense complexity and algorithms used by huge funds who moved the market as they wanted.
As he likes to say himself: “I love solving hard problems that require math and programming. I apply that knowledge to help my fellow traders who fight unfair odds against big FInstitutions”. That’s his Simons side.
That wasn’t the only reason. As he was researching and going deeper into the world of finance and trading, he noticed two things that aligned perfectly with his mission.
The Birth of Stocknear
So he started building. The scientist and mathematician inside him shook hands: he would apply the scientific approach to solve this big problem. How? Using transparent metrics to evaluate each model so as to not mislead his users about performance.
He took his knowledge and skill set and, in less than a month since his idea, the first version of Stocknear was out. That was around 12 months ago.
Stocknear’s purpose is to empower YOU, the average investor, to make due diligence as efficient as possible.
Why? So you get a very good understanding of the stock you are planning on buying.
If you are one who trades often and follows the latest trends in the stock market, this is institutional grade data analysis and algorithms.
You get stock analysis, heatmaps, market movers, ETF's, calendars for dividends/earnings/IPO/economic, options flow data, hedge funds monitoring and a LOT more for $10 a month. That’s his William Wallace talking. Pretty damn cool, huh?

Mirror Trade Your Favorite Politician? Sure!

Oh, in case you want to see what stock your favorite politician just bought (and maybe mirror trade), it’s right there. If you didn’t know, Nancy Pelosi earned $43 million last year from her stock investments. This year, she’s up $20 million. And it’s just May! So maybe you want to get in on that action as well… it’s only a click away.

RoaringKitty 2.0?
Not quite, better actually. Dr. Muslem isn’t pushing up a stock using the community while pretending he’s fighting the system. He’s giving you the tools to make informed decisions against those who tip the scales in their favor.
He’s not dumping while you are buying, he’s actually helping average investors know what they’re up against with state of the art stock market algorithms and math.
From 0 To First Users
From the moment Dr. Muslem had the idea, he was firm in his decision that the platform will be priced in a way which allows anyone to benefit from his data and algorithms. Helping traders and investors compete in a market dominated by big money was and is his main mission.
His main acquisition channels for users are Twitter and Reddit. Remember, he’s a brainiac, not a marketer. So he opened up and told his story about his work. This brought in the first users and things started moving in a positive direction.
When I asked what his go to market strategy was, he candidly replied: “Still don’t have any. I just try to fight scammers and help smaller investors. I am working on leveling up my marketing skills.”
"Your Website..."
One terribly funny feedback he got after he launched was from a user saying: “Your website shit bruv”. Obviously, that didn’t really stop him. And no, his website is… well, you judge for yourself.
Dr. Muslem also shared the great feeling he had when he got his first paying customer, telling me that it’s a truly beautiful moment he won’t ever forget.
It's always inspiring to see other people appreciate what you built. It gets you the energy you need to push through and keep at it.
Quick money grab? No, thanks!
Soon after he launched, a user noticed the quality of the algorithms employed on the platform. So he contacted the founder and said he wanted an AI solution that works most of the time to predict the stock market and he would obviously pay anything to get it.
Dr. Muslem said no, this goes against probability theory and anyone who says they have a model to accurately predict the market is a scammer and liar. Who says that in finance?!
The user realized afterwards that the request was against logic and our physicist had no intention of taking his money with false promises. Pretty weird to turn down a big payday in today’s world, isn’t it?
Challenges and Lessons
From day one until today, he faced multiple challenges that he had to overcome, but that is part of the entrepreneur’s life. Problems are nothing but questions that await your answer.
When dealing with a challenge, the physicist inside him pops out and starts playing with the problem like a child until it breaks down.
“When you know what caused the break you understand the underlying structure. Even when I have absolutely no idea how or where to start, I slice up the big problem into 10 small problems and voila! Now I know where to start and progress very fast from there.”
Everyone Has A Plan Until...
What intrigued him mostly wasn’t the technical problems, he’s used to that and actually enjoys them. Facing inconsistent stories and lies from data providers was the big issue.
It became clear quite fast that the finance world isn’t as truthful as the world he was accustomed to. Despite these hurdles, valuable lessons were learned along the way. As he puts it, "Nothing goes as planned, so just enjoy the ride."
Spread The Word About Your Work
One more piece of advice is focus on marketing and building awareness even before launching your project. Building beautiful things is wasted effort if people don’t know about your work, regardless of how much you help them out.
Dr. Muslem knows he has a lot to improve in that area, since most of the time he is focused on improving his algorithms and making sure the data is accurate. Marketing? Not so much. But he’s on it.
How Are Things Going Today?
As of today, Stocknear is bringing in around $1,000 each month.
The short to medium term goal? Spreading the word about his work and helping as many people as possible make better investment decisions with his platform. Revenue wise, this target is reaching $10,000 MRR while constantly improving the platform.
When it comes to development, he is constantly working on improving his algorithms to make sure he's bringing value to his users. From the moment he wakes up, he starts working on the project.
As he likes to say, his favorite day is: “a quiet room where I can work 12 hours a day with food and water”.
Grateful For The Community
Work is work, problems are inevitable and some things you cannot control. That's life. His gratitude is pointing towards the beautiful community that has slowly formed around Stocknear.
There is a community section on the website and Discord channel where investors are exchanging ideas, opinions and sometimes sh*t talking and posting memes, of course.
If you haven't been around the investment communities, you haven't truly lived to understand what memes are.
But that's the beauty, isn't it? Finding the right crowd to share your highs and lows. Being there for each other. Fighting the good fight. And telling the story of your achievements. One day at a time.
Trust Yourself And Keep Moving
To all you aspiring entrepreneurs out there, our founder has a message: don't do it unless you absolutely can't imagine doing anything else. Sure, the road may be rocky, but the journey is worth every twist and turn.
When you have no answer to a problem, trust that it is within you. If you are spiritual, say a prayer and sleep on it. If you aren’t, think really hard about it and let it go. Trust that your answer will come to you. There is no such thing as hopelessness, only trustlessness.
At the end of the day, Dr. Muslem keeps reminding himself that we all die sooner or later so he wants to spend his time helping people and learning everything that sparks his interest.
Life is short, so don't be a donkey and help everyone out even if it is just a smile.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. This is what I do, my mission is to find high potential entrepreneurs with beautiful businesses and share them to interested communities. There are a LOT of people building amazingly useful things but don’t get the appreciation or visibility they deserve. I know that pain firsthand from experience.

The daily routine of Princess Margaret
Other Princess Margaret stories:
“Royal protocol dictated that dinner couldn’t start until Princess Margaret arrived—which was a problem, because Margaret could be unfathomably late. Here’s a tale from Love From Nancy: The Letters of Nancy Mitford, a collection of correspondence from the late British aristocrat: “Dinner was at 8:30 and at 8:30 Princess Margaret’s hairdresser arrived, so we waited for hours while he concocted a ghastly coiffure.”
“While Princess Margaret was attending a high-society party in New York, the hostess asked her politely how the Queen was keeping,” reported The Telegraph. “‘Which one?’ she is said to have replied with her typically razor-sharp wit. ‘My sister, my mother, or my husband?’”
“When she dropped her coat at another function, the story goes that a man immediately offered to pick it up,” writes The Daily Beast. “Margaret’s response: ‘No. I’ll never remember where it is if you move it.’”

2024.05.17 19:36 nickpapagiorgio61510 Former LASHER with some questions

Hey everyone,
Long story short my life just got completely turned upside down, and now I have nothing and I'm completely fucked. I am not in a good place.
With nowhere to turn and nothing to live for, I figured maybe I'd get back on the trail for a bit.
I have some things working against me that'll make this trip difficult so I wanted to get some input from you all. The three big questions I have now are:
1) Where is the bubble? I want to be around people. I'm not going to be a negative Nancy and vent about my life situation, I just don't want to be alone.
2) How much are you currently spending per month? Finances are going to be tight, I'm going to need to keep it as close as possible to 1k or under per month. Possible in 2024?
3) Anyone hike with sciatica or lower back pain? My back is fucked. I feel great when I am standing and when I am walking. I've got a good pack that fits me right, truly I only feel pain when I wake up in the morning and when I get up after sitting for awhile. In my current city I have walked up to 10 miles a day without issue, it's just getting up after sleeping is real bad.
Thanks for the insights.

2024.05.17 16:34 The-Peel The storylines are taking a turn for the worst this week

Acting wise, everybody's been great. But story wise, a lot of the storylines are taking a turn for the worst.
I hate that the writers spent months having Whitney commit a crime in abducting a child and lying to Zack about it and implicating him in her crime, only for all that to be hastily forgotten about so that Zack can be made to be the villain because he cheated on her with Lauren.
The writers always do this whenever they want to split up a couple - have them go through a lot of problems that are each other's faults, then have one cheat and that's seen as the sole reason for the breakup. The writers did it with Kat and Phil, Zack and Nancy and now Zack and Lauren. Remember that Kat was treating Phil like dirt and giving him a hard time for keeping Alfie's secret hours before he cheated, Nancy was treating Zack like dirt and telling him he wasn't doing enough to help her recovery or help with her training and now Whitney told Zack she'd always choose a kid she's just met over him and told her alcoholic friend to drink herself to death and now him cheating on Whitney is all they'll be remembered for.
Its just wrong. Plain wrong and bad writing.
No matter how you look at it, Britney as a character destroyed Whitney and Zack's relationship - they were solid before meeting Britney, then Whitney got herself knocked over chasing after Britney by a car, the couple kept arguing, Whitney abducted Britney and kept it a secret for months, then Zack found out and struggled with the idea of keeping this kid for good when they both agreed it'd be temporary and now Britney is gonna be the one to wait to tell Whitney about Zack's cheating on their wedding day.
Britney is one of the worst written new characters on the show in decades. Its just so unbelievable and bad writing.
Of course Whitney is gonna have to be killed off now - the writers aren't gonna have her, Britney and Dolly all leave together because they're not gonna have Zack's daughter taken away from him forever, surely they're not that evil? And Whitney won't leave her only child behind with Zack so unless they all leave together (Looking unlikely after the cheating and lying), Whitney's gonna have to die and Zack will likely foster Britney out of guilt.
This is why the writers have had Zack, Bianca and Lauren - closest people to Whitney - lie to her for weeks to build up her isolation and breakdown before she dies. Again, bad writing.
Its just painful watching the writers do this to Zack, after everything he went through with Nancy, getting diagnosed with HIV, losing Peach and grieving for her, the writers are really gonna have his chance of happiness be taken away because they needed him to cheat to suddenly break off his relationship with Whitney, despite the fact SHE ABDUCTED A CHILD WHO SPARKED THE CHEATING!
Just terrible, whitewashing writing.
Now on top of that we've got Alfie yet again trying to get back together with Kat.
Alfie - the same guy who told Kat on Christmas Day she deserved to have been raped as a kid by her uncle hours before Alfie himself tried to abduct his newborn daughter on Christmas Day.
Alfie - the same guy who tricked Kat into seeing a couple's therapist that was in secret a paid off friend of Alfie who gaslit Kat into thinking she wasn't treating Alfie nicely enough when they were both bad together.
Alfie - the same guy who set his own house on fire for insurance money while Kat was inside and spent months lying about it. That Alfie.
Why are the writers doing this? Why do the writers tear decent couples apart with bad storylines while forcing toxic couples back together after spending years hurting each other?
Its just too painful and predictable.
In comparison, when Elaine broke up with George, his cheating with Cindy had been months in the making, plenty of buildup and she hadn't done anything wrong or cheated or committed a crime to steer him away, and she gave him multiple chances to tell the truth but he didn't. This is how normal couples work and how you justify a breakup - not by having a guy cheat on his girlfriend because said girlfriend admitted to abducting a child and lying about it, and now having said cheating guy look the sole villain in all this.
I just can't figure out why the writers are going down this road and taking the characters in all the wrong directions. Anyone else think this?

Messages From "Lori"
I'm a writer of short fiction in my spare time, so when someone pretending to be my aunt sent me a message on Messenger last week, I decided to make up the most ridiculous story I could think of. I wanted to see if she would realize right away that I was screwing with her or, if not, how long it would take. (They're pretending to be my aunt so let's use "heshe") This was an experiment and she didn't shy away, so I wrote another and another and another story. I basically used her for my creative writing exercises; each time doing my best to outdo the psychotic chaos of what I'd written previously.
I was fully aware that English was probably not her first language so I didn't expect her to read any of it at all. I was just trying to annoy her until she went away.
Over four days, the stories I told her were long. Impolitely long for a Messenger conversation. They were full of the most batshit insane thoughts I could think. I told her about my desire to buy a tazer to use on Nancy Pelosi's dirty butthole and how my dad used to chaperone me to drug parties because I was a poor swimmer and his fear was I might fall in the pool. When she sent me a link to a grant program, I told her government grants were Communist and I didn't trust Communists and their grants! Once at a party in the 70s, a Russian exchange student convinced me to eat a BBQ'd gerbil for grant money. He promised me he would, but he never paid!
I kept getting stranger and stranger with my claims and I was sure she would give up soon...then I demanded she give me some of her grant money, because she owed me $9700. Didn't she remember? I paid a fat Croatian Mafioso so he wouldn't remove her toes one-by-one for unpaid gambling debts. I never expected it repaid but since she just received $180k in grant funds she should finally make good on that.
I'm warning you: this is long and it is stupid. Parts of it will probably make you laugh. If you're interested, it's all posted on my personal site under the title Messages from "Lori"
Stay safe out there and don't buy Apple cards and give away your savings--not even to "Lori"--supposedly, her betting days are behind her, but I don't know if I believe her when she claims: "I don't do gambling anymore nor casino."

Gday, I'm a recent subscriber to this subreddit and I love lots of the wonderful nostalgic content. Without being too much of a negative nancy, though, is there a way to take our skills and connections and advantages to affect change for better in this world?
I hope this thread is viewed as a positive challenge and homework assignment rather than just me having a whinge! I am familiar with theory discussing why fixation on generational constructs can be 'unhelpful', and it's toxic to keep pushing our problems down onto the next generation ("Don't worry, X will save us all!"). And yet, I wonder if there are world-building (=story-telling), communication (=online/offline organising) and other soft skills that perhaps we as Xennials might be able to utilise particularly well in helping to drive positive change?
You know, that whole bit about being able to use VCRs and computers AND write cursive... there has to be a bridge-building effect somehow, right?
What do you do? Are you a moderator online, volunteer at the food bank, on the school board, working in construction... ? Perhaps we can share some ideas and discuss some positive action in here. Hope this isn't against the rules! Cheers all; have a wonderful Friday and weekend (it's 9am Friday morning here)

2024.05.16 22:24 Loud-Research-9548 I need help coming up with conflict idea!!!!

Hello! I have a story that i seriously need help with. I need idea for what the two main characters big complex conflict could be. Heres the backstory on then:
I’d prefer the fight be pretty interesting, so i can leave breadcrumbs till the reveal and shock the reader. It has to be bad enough that it ruins their friendship, but that they can eventually make up. THANKS!!!

2024.05.16 21:05 disasterkate Was Cornelia and Gard's wedding date revised? (Samantha books)

Looking at a scan of Samantha's Surprise, I noticed that Gard and Cornelia say they plan to be married "in June" at the very end of the story. My paperback copy has Gard and Cornelia saying the wedding will be "in March."
I thought at first that this was a revision made at the time the latter half of Samantha's series was written. The series changed authors a couple times-- Samantha's Surprise has a different author than any of the other books-- so maybe the writers corrected some timeline issues for later printings. A June wedding doesn't work with the timeline established in later books. The wedding short story features winter weather, and Gard and Cornelia are already married at the start of Happy Birthday, Samantha, which takes place in late May.
Here's the confusing part: The scan that has a June wedding plan is from a copy from the early 2000s. It features the revised illustrations and lists Kit and Kaya. My paperback is older, I believe printed in the mid-90s. It has the original Nancy Niles illustrations and only lists the Girls through Addy. My copy has the couple planning for the timeline-compliant March wedding. From these two books, it looks like the text was changed... but in a way that makes less sense with the full series?
I couldn't find any thread about this and there's no reference to it on the AG fan wiki, which usually notes revisions.
Does anyone know if/when/why this changed? Anyone else have a copy that says March? (This would be the very last page of the story if anyone wishes to check).
Thanks so much!
EDIT: To clarify, I am just talking about within the book Samantha's Surprise. The whole Samantha-world timeline was revised for the beforever and later repackagings!

Excelsior Andriel and his staff move to the debark site on the blade where they will walk in space over to the Elo Eloahim. Ambassador Lucentel is awaiting the arrival of the group from the blade. He is speaking with the commander of his vessel as they look outside at the blade sitting 100 yards away.
Commander, what do you make of this vessel, the blade? Ambassador, I am aware of this design. It is manifest and therefore has many exotic accoutrements and capabilities. It has a trans-time drive system and many highly accurate weapons.
The commander pauses. Does it pose a threat to the Elo Eloahim, commander? Lucent Tell asks. As long as we are in the Aetherium domain, it poses no threat.
If it were to transpose into the Matterverse, it would be potentially lethal to us. The commander and Lucentel can see Excelsior Andriel and a group of Aetherians walking in space toward the Elo Eloahim.
Senator, I have Jason Anderson on the phone. Line one. You want to take it? Asked his assistant. Yes, thank you, Barks the senator. Jason, have you lost your fucking mind? Why are you talking to reporters? Well, if you must know, I am concerned about the effects of the Superlight device, and I think people should be aware. Besides, Hilliard fired me, so I have no allegiance, Jason adds.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. A bunch of babies. You people are so dramatic. Where the fuck is Hilliard? We have looked everywhere, and not a sign of him or his team, the senator says. I don't know senator, but I did get a call from him this morning early.
Where was the call from? Did you look? Asks Senator Abramson. Yes, I looked, and it was listed as caller unknown. He has gone into hiding and is using a burner or a call blocker.
Get me that phone, Jason. I can get someone at NSA to trace it back. Maybe we can get a lead.
Okay, senator, I can send it down express. It will be there tomorrow. You know, Jason, if you want that device in good hands, we have to find Hilliard. The senator huffs. I understand, Senator, Jason says. Send me that phone, and I will talk to you in a couple of days. The senator hangs up.
Airman Johnson has collected Brad, Nancy, and Walter, escorting them to the mess hall. As they enter, they see Captain Carpenter and two men at a table. They stand and greet. Barbara introduces everyone. Brad, Nancy, Walter, I would like you to meet Steve Ruddin and Oscar Tillman.
These guys are contractors to the Space Force Deep Black Division, the same guys that developed the TR-3 Black Manta you all flew on. They work on the infamous 17th floor, the bottom floor, and safest floor in the base. An intruder would have to navigate down through 16 floors through tight security to reach this floor and its secret projects.
These guys are going to help you set up your device. I have approved this as a Halo-class project, which means no spending caps. So, whatever you need, just ask, and it will be provided to you.
If the New Empire is interested in this thing, then we all are interested in it. Nancy, Walter, I know you may need some briefing to get you fully up to speed. Maybe Brad can fill you in later.
After lunch, I am going to have Steve and Oscar give you the 10-cent tour. Well, some of the toys they have down there cost a significant portion of the U.S. budget, off-record budget, Barbara says. We have been talking with these greys for years.
The Air Force prior to us. We never see the tall greys, always the little ones. That tells you something right there.
Your little black box has them freaking out, so we need to know why, and how to leverage from it. My job here is to oversee development of space technologies. The greys are so far technologically ahead of us. It would take thousands of years for us to discover half of that stuff. We have asked them to help us for years, and they have given us an old depleted ship, and some elements that are not found on Earth, but that's about it. Even their old scout ships are impossible to reverse-engineer.
We have been able to take a few components and use them. Back in the 50s, many of the big tech breakthroughs were reversed grey tech. They seem to be a race of thinkers and scientists.
They use some kind of black magic. I just call it that. They call it manifest. They are able to tell the quantum to build a spaceship, and the thing just 3D prints itself into existence. That's why their tech is so hard to back-engineer. There are no signs of any manufacturing, it’s like a living metallic body, no seams, rivets, nothing.
Just a wholly formed organic ship. Which brings me to the whole point of this meeting. If the superlight is an economic or ideological threat to the greys and their kind, we have a currency to trade in.
I am certain they could build one in a minute, that's not the issue. They don't want us to have it. It is an existential threat to their economy and how they profit from us as a species.
I have been thinking, since we were on that ship with the big grey Andriel, that the human race, and most likely many others, are creations, avatars, if you will made by the beings you are seeing with the superlight. It's all mind-melting information, but we need to learn more about these things, and how they affect our planet, and what threats they pose. You now have all the resources you need at your disposal.
So, let's get some answers in fast. Our very survival could depend on it. Captain Carpenter concludes.
The news of the superlight has been seen around the world. The news media have been featuring non-stop coverage of the story. Reporters have probed the White House, the Russians, the Chinese, the Vatican, just about every world leader for comment and analysis. U.S. President Andrew Walton Grant has fielded calls all day from far-flung world leaders.
His chief of staff Ben Chambers is hovering nearby. The president is on a video call with Russian President Nikolai Brezhnev. President Grant, I am very concerned that the U.S. has such a powerful weapon.
I have conferred with the Council on International Emergency Affairs, and they are quite concerned with the idea of this powerful device being in the hands of one country. Therefore, we demand in all manner possible that the United States bring this device to the Council, that we might understand this dangerous invention better. Sir, with all due respect.
Oh no, Grant thinks under his breath. When they start in with the all due respect bullshit, it means there is actually no respect. Grant mutes the call and speaks into his chief of staff's ear.
Do we even know where this fucking thing is? Chambers says, no sir, not really. Just stall him so we can figure this all out. Grant takes the mute off.
Nikolai, I am going to need some time to sift through this situation. As you know, this device we are talking about is owned and developed by a private tech company, and I will need their cooperation. The U.S. government can't just take it away, not without a court battle.
I am sure we can find a solution that benefits all parties. Thank you, Mr. President, Brezhnev says, adding, please notify us when possible regarding the whereabouts of the device. I have been briefed on the situation and know that it is in hiding somewhere, in the southwest part of your country.
Believe me, Mr. President, I will be able to tell you with high accuracy where the device is in a day or so. Thank you, Mr. Brezhnev, I look forward to our next call.
Benton, get the National Security Director and a couple Joint Chiefs, and Andy Newhall, Secretary of Defense up here, ASAP.
We need a plan, the whole flippin' world is pissed off at us right now. Oh, and who was that senator in those news reports you showed me? The President's asks. Senator Arthur Abramson, Democrat from Massachusetts, says the Chief of Staff.
Fine, let's get them all up here so we can sort this thing out, says President Grant.
The Grand Hall of the Elo Eloahim is opulent, jewel-like, rows of beautiful tables with hundreds of leaders and diplomats standing and seated. A large choir is singing on a grand stage.
Thirty individuals are creating a sound so colorful and emotional that it brings intense pleasure to the listener. No rhythm, just a continuous wave of sound, like a chorus of Angels. Ambassador Lucentel walks into the ballroom, accompanied by Excelsior Andriel and his entourage.
Everyone in the room stands, and the music gets louder and more state-like in texture. The group makes their way to the VIP table at the head of the room. Lucentel motions for everyone to be seated.
He speaks to the gathering, be not afraid, power and glory to the one. Greetings and peace to all those who are gathered here now. I am delighted to introduce Excelsior Andriel, Commander of the Guardian and Excelsior of the New Empire.
Boos and moans can be heard in the crowd. I am certain a number of you have concerns regarding the legitimacy of the New Empire, but must I remind you that it was and is the One that embraces this division in our society. We must embrace it as well.
Excelsior, please a few words. Thank you, be not afraid. Power and glory unto the One.
The two small greys that were sent to Earth to meet Barbara. Brad and Bill are trying different codes on an outside hatch at the bottom of the Elo Eloahim.
They are using a small pad to break in. The hatch suddenly flips open, and the little greys enter the giant ship. Down on these lower levels, it is not so jewel-like, very plain, just utilitarian.
They find a room with dozens of video monitors. They wave the pad in front of the video screens. Okay, let's go, one of them says.
They quickly leave the way they came in. A half-mile above on the command bridge of the Elo Eloahim, an officer, sees something on his monitor. It is the two greys walking into the power room down below.
Commander, take a look at this. The commander steps over and looks at the video screen. What is in that area? The commander asks.
That is a distribution node for the converters. Could the converters be disabled from that location? The commander ponders. I don't think so, commander.
However, the software that drives the matter converter is partially accessible from there. The commander calls out. Commander on duty to Ambassador Lucientel.
Commander, this is not a good time right now. The ambassador says, speaking quietly. I am sorry, ambassador, but we have had an intrusion.
Two New Empire operatives, dressed in maintenance robes, entered a very sensitive area of the ship. This could have the potential of putting us at a great disadvantage. Thank you, commander. Glory to the One. Commander, make urgent plans to return to Aetheria. Top speed.
It shall be so, ambassador. The sound of the old barge, moving up to speed, can be heard in the ballroom. The choir sing louder in order to be heard above the engine noise.
Excelsior Andriel leans to Ambassador Lucientel and says, so this is all an elaborate kidnapping scheme, ambassador. The ambassador chuckles, no, not at all Excelsior, but it was a real chance to collaborate. But your operatives broke into a sensitive part of the ship, and we feel it prudent to return to Aetheria.
Don't worry. I will provide you and your party a shuttle to return to your vessel. It has to be before we cross the border net, as I am sure you are aware. Go now. My staff will escort you to the hangar deck, snaps Lucentel The blade is now pulled alongside the Elo Eloahim and is pacing it.
Andriel and his group have boarded the shuttle and are exiting the Elo Eloahim. They can see a bright red net just ahead of them. The border net, only authorized Aetherians can cross over it into Old Dominion territory.
