as the title says. on the occasions I take the supply pack for the team, I do my best to keep people topped up, but people never say thanks. I do though, I always, ALWAYS, say "thankyou" when a supply pack user gives me a refill: these players willingly gave up their backpack slot, and thus the ability to use weapons like Autocannon or RR, just so that YOU can continue to use YOUR support weapon. it's one of the most selfless and charitable things a helldiver can do, and shows that you are in fact, truly democratic. bullets are cheap, but manners cost nothing at all!
now for those who simply don't know how, there's a thing called the callout wheel, can't remember input on PC but it's down on the D pad on controller by default. hold the button and you get a variety of things you can say: "yes, "no","sorry" (that one's useful for preventing an accidental FF incident from turning into a toxic team killing spree) and also.. "Thankyou"! Thank you is at the "5 O'clock" position on the wheel, and has a smiley face icon.
these callouts are not only important for co-ordinating with other players without using mics, they are also the best way to convey your feelings to your squad mates: yes, there's squad chat, but it's always too clunky for controller users like myself to use mid-battle, unless we type in shorthand, and the basics are already covered in the callout wheel.
so please, next time you see a helldiver with that sweet yellow backpack running up to you, make sure you thank them after they give you the essential ammo, nades and stims you will need for the next battle. this little gesture goes a long way to keep up morale! and to those who bring the supply pack..

I don't know if this is the place to ask, but I'll give it a try! I have a question for those of you who use screen readers.
In online documentation (help articles, manuals, etc) it's common to use something called breadcrumbs as a shorthand to tell users where to go in the application. This technique uses the mathematical "greater than" symbol between the various U.I. elements that users should click.
Here's an example: "click Settings > Languages > Translations."
This is extremely common across the internet and most sighted people automatically mentally assign meaning such as "then click" to that symbol. But when I test my documentation with JAWS and NVDA, those screen readers treat the symbol literally and pronounce it as "greater".
Sorry for all this backround, but here's my question. When people who use screen readers encounter breadcrumbs and hear the word greater, do you also know to mentally assign the appropriate meaning to that symbol?
If yes, then great. I don't need to change anything (smiley face). But I don't want to assume that.
What's the best way to express breadcrumbs that also includes people whocuse screen readers? Using an alternate symbol like the slash ( /) , or maybe the right arrow symbol (→)? Or maybe not to use this shorthand at all and just convert breadcrumbs to complete sentences?

Running away from home that day, I found myself walking in our town’s industrial outskirts, chain link fences and rows of factories and no trespassing signs surrounding me. Foot falls echoed off the steel landscape in sharp whip-cracks that must’ve broadcast my lonely trek for miles. I could almost feel blood shot eyes on me, slowly wondering this alien vista with my hood-covered head bent down, arms crossed. From my mind's eye they tracked every move, peeking out from behind windows and between skeletal scaffolding above, from impossible vantage points like the blackened rims of smoke stacks or passing slits of sewer grates. Wherever I went these pupils would be there, just on the periphery, teasing me like a pack of black Cheshire cats. I'd whip my head around, trying to catch these clockwork gremlins in the act, creeping up on me and grinding sharp teeth…nothing. Not even the far away rumble of traffic could be heard.
Rain began to drizzle, my disquiet turning to panic; I was lost, no amount of blind hiking on those iron planes was going to bring me back to my own stomping grounds. And when the rain went from trickle to full-fledged downpour I had to make a larger concession, biting down fear and sprinting to the nearest building, frantically searching for shelter in the midst of the shower. Up above the sky had turned from slate gray to pregnant purple, the kind of clouds that promised worse to come.
A delivery door yawned open like the mouth of a dungeon, welcoming me in from the downpour. Reluctantly inching into the dark loading area, frightened yet thrilled, I was pulled deep into the building by something I couldn’t put my finger on. Raindrops dive bombed the dusty window panes I passed on my stealth tour, moving deliberately down the shadowy hall through strangely unlocked doors, peeking into deserted offices, abandoned workshops, seeing all the twisting angular machinery that took on a sinister bent. Half illuminated by the light of my cigarette lighter, they almost looked like the mandibles and pincers and feelers of some race of insect people. Under the steady glow it all felt like a graveyard. I’d entered a twilight zone where everything ordinary, everything on the level now threw up a shadow side; it was a strange new glimpse.
I went exploring every crack and crevice, every monochrome corner and grease caked borough, listening to the pitter-patter of rain distant and faint against the factory roof. It might as well have been the distant plains of Pluto, me as intrepid explorer braving subterranean depths armed only with a backpack of library books, the clothes on my back and a lighter in hand. The deeper I went the stranger it got, huge swathes of graffiti scarring passing walls, multi colored noise forming a lunatic canvas that stretched on and on. Whispers of wind swayed dangling chains and wicked looking hooks above my head. They were rusted brown and pissed down flakes, lazily cascading mid-air like ash. Puddles ran between the cracked concrete under my toes and moistness hung all around, fetid and foul.
The usual come-ons on the passing wall- dirty limericks and doodles, insults and shop talk. As I sauntered, eyes glazing over specifics and just going with the flow, the messages slowly changed, irreverent voices gone solemn, prophetic snatches of coherent dry land in the midst of schizo speak. New doodles too, no longer x-rated rigmarole but strange symbols and shapes that made my head hurt just looking at them. It kept on for some time, interspersed with more unpronounceable words until I finally came upon the mural.
It was huge, taking up an entire wall and composed of some other material than ink and paint; a crusted, repulsive paste I didn’t want to examine too close. The terror was re-stoked by this new landmark, a coppery flavor in my mouth. It was like wagging sirloin at some forgotten caveman section of my brain, hidden like a trap door-It depicted a huge bronzed idol seated like a king on his mighty throne, glaring down on awed worshipers bowing underneath glowing eyes- I could almost hear the beat of drums, the drugged-out chanting and hypnotic swaying of the rabble as they became like a hill of ants at the behest of their queen. The burnt smell of old-time worship at its most feverish flooded my nostrils: cooked meat, soiled loincloths, puke saliva shit reverence- and dread, that was most delicious. Quaking and cowering, ruled over by forces barely comprehended under a red crescent moon…
I started sweating, reaching up to push the hair out of my face then clutching myself again. Those eyes looked like rubies from where I stood, not painted on with mystery goo but nailed to solid concrete; gemstone pupils. They seemed many faceted like a piece of crystal hitting the light dead-on, a rainbow kaleidoscope I couldn't take my own eyes off of.
Almost without noticing I reached up and jostled off my specs and chewed on the ends, staring ahead blurrily. In a light bulb moment of inspiration I quickly unslung my phone and tapped on it, raising her up.No service available read the screen. Switching over to the camera function I pointed it towards the amateur fresco, whipped up by blue collars on a day pass from the booby hatch- god only knew but it sure beat pictures of giant dicks on washroom stalls.
“Smile and say ‘Lucy in the sky’!”
My voice echoed in a horrific loop that bounced back ‘n forth off the walls, again & again. The flash was uncomfortably bright; in a split moment I could’ve swore I saw the clockwork gremlins, shapes standing on the edge of sight, there and gone. Shadows. Whipping my head around one last time, scanning the vicinity as best I could in absolute gloom- Nothing. Nada. Looking at my phone again, staring at the picture, my eyes widened and almost pushed off my glasses seated comfortably back on my beak. Nil.
I ran- feet splashing & breath ragged, desperate to be away from x ray eyes boring in from galaxies away. The graffiti gave way to jagged slashes in masonry, great angry tears that got bigger and bigger the further I got, eventually reaching a point where there was hardly any wall left just a ruptured threshold looking out on black.
A sucking maw.
No more drop-drop of distant rain just the rustle of trapped wind in old bones, breeze pushing into my face out of the abyss. Rank like forgotten food left out, like the slime at the bottom of a trashcan, like the discarded femurs of family pets. I didn’t dare look down into that pit, the staircase that went even deeper into unknown depths. I didn’t dare step over the threshold onto the top step, slowly making way down even when the light vanished because another far below had snapped on, shedding faint rays up my way so that the path remained secure all the way to the basement. It was cavernous and empty, totally void except for the huge man standing dead center smiling up at me.
I didn’t dare.
The clown beckoned me forward with a twist of his scarred chin.His face was made up in a smiley death’s head of pancake grease running in a spoiled mess under a single overhead bulb swinging in the shadows. His hair was a thinning rat’s nest and his scabbed lips flashed a leer over sharp and yellow teeth. His eyes spoke of bottomless root cellars, blockaded tombs and windowless attics. Seven & a half feet he stood, clad in a long long moth-eaten trench coat the color of midnight; it rested on his steel toes. His over-sized paws were wrapped in eggplant purple gloves, chewed and weathered. When he spoke his voice was like cascading sand in a cracked hourglass, feather light and heavy at once. It echoed off the damp concrete in merciless staccato that burrowed like broken glass in my brain.
“Moloch was the idol” he whispered. “To which they offered up their own children.”
From his trench coat he withdrew a wooden cross from which a wooden figurine dangled pathetically, stick man suspended by puppets strings that the clown manipulated while beaming atrociously. He made the little man take herky jerky steps on the wet ground, 1-2-3-4, a monstrous parody of real-life as seen through the ancient pupils of a malevolent outsider. It drug and scraped, upper body dragging the rest down as if barely able to shoulder its weight, a mourning calcified rhythm.Eventually the stick man collapsed, still starting and fretting in scattershot movements, instinctual and useless, drawn out to the degree it was painful to watch. I just wanted him to lie down and die already. When he did the clown’s horrid rictus went wider, scabbed lips splitting open and shedding blood.
He straightened, leering hunch going out of his shoulders so that he towered over me, titanic skull knocking the dangling bulb and sending it swaying, shadows wild on moss covered walls, one second minute and the next huge and hideous like our benefactor. He looked down on me with a face now so covered by spider strands of toxic locks that only those x-ray eyes were visible. Slowly he began to part his coat below the waist like the Dead Sea, snatches of light from the swinging light bulb throwing intermittent illumination on the bruised, filthy faces below.
The children were huddled together, spindly arms and legs held tight to parrot cage chests, dressed in rags if they were dressed at all with greasy matted mops that mostly covered their blackened eyes, their cut brows, their bent noses- battered broken base. Scads of little ones under there, more than even the proportions of the coat could allow; they clung and shivered and stared with impossibly huge eyes, a horrid naked appraisal of all I was a member of the outside world. They were unwanted, their fragile bodies bore incontrovertible proof of unworthiness- cigarette burns, belt lashings, welts and bruises left over from every kind of assault. Broken bones and torn ligaments, warped malnourished features and other damage too scandalous to speak of – they’d come here, finding sanctuary with somebody who did want them.
The stillborn darlings climbed out from under their fun house womb and came to me, all bread stick limbs and skull faces, taking my trembling hand in theirs. They started tugging me toward their infernal homestead where I could play with them forever.
And it suddenly struck like a bolt of lightning, like a speeding train, like the booming voice of God: why court jesters, why traveling fools and jugglers and all the big shoed mime face jokers no longer stood as paragons of innocence. That lovable slouch of backyard birth day parties, that grinning jester on the court of the three-ring circus. Now this and this only- harbinger of night sweats, wise cracking molester under the bed, serial killer at the end of the block, horror movie demigod- all purpose shorthand for everything spoiled, rotten and lowdown.
“He was made of brass” they all whispered, “and they heated him from below his hands being stretched out and made hot they put the child between his hands”
-Every slap, every paddling gone overboard made that makeup run. Every harsh word made those teeth yellow and sharpen. Every inappropriate touch made that hair wither, those clothes degrade, its entire aura deepen and drag, sink into something cloying, heavy and black. The sum total of it.
“And when it cried out the priests beat a drum”

Down out & under, a hundred little hands pulling their new playmate along twilight vistas, unspeakable worlds underneath the moth-eaten coat. I was another sacrificial lamb from the flock, going where all shorn offerings went and not lacking for company too.
And as a whistle went up in the permanent dark, a jaunty tune by way of the clown, I knew in my heart of hearts that I was home….

What do you guys think about using smileys (not ":)" but actual yellow things) and shorthands ( the kind that girls on dating apps hate - "typ lyk dis") on work chat platform.
I work in a big financial institution and everything about us has to be presentable in a professional manner yet many of my fellow colleagues chat like "hey bro.. wht abt d stats xxxxxxx". I generally do "Hi Iyer. May I know the status on xxxxxx...".
I don't find the usage of smileys unprofessional but it should be to a minimum. I mean its easier to type ok than to go into the smiley box and select thumbs up.
Shorthands and casual greets are a strict no no.

As the day of the first episode edges ever closer, and our preshow content stacks up, I feel confident we can start making some serious predictions on which trainees will go far in the show, and which ones will get paid dust. I've watched a ton of Mnet's survival shows at this point, among others, and Mnet really loves sticking to their tried and true formulas, which makes predicting this sort of thing for them very easy. For reference, I've watched each season of Produce, GP999, and Idol School. I have not watched their less popular survival shows like World Klass, so if you have your input on this topic will be very helpful!
What Are Archetypes?
Archetypes are the hallmarks of reality TV, and they function similarly to the way they do in books and movies. They communicate an easy to recognize and understand idea of a person. They're a shorthand for telling you who to like, and they allow editors to create compelling story lines for their show. Even shows that are supposedly unscripted need some sort of story line in order to be compelling, and Mnet especially takes this to heart. For more on this topic, I really highly recommend reading my post about scripting on Girls Planet 999. It's introduces a lot of the concept I'm talking about in this post and I'm expecting everything I wrote in it to also apply to Boys Planet. Feel free to skip it if you feel like you've already got a good handle on how Mnet survival shows function.
The most important factor in surviving an Mnet show
Far and beyond any other factor, the true determinant of success and failure on an Mnet survival show, is screen time. Looking through the list of show winners, from every show that I've personally watched, here's a rundown of who I remember getting at least a decent amount of screen time, if not full blown storylines (some contestants will even get several!)
In season 1, Somi, Sejeong, Sohye, and Yeonjung all got a ton of storylines and screentime consistently through the whole season. Jihoon was the screen time king in S2 In 48 Sakura was obviously the massive push of the season, but Chaeyeon, Yuri, and Yena were all pushed very consistently as well. During X Yohan, Wooseok, Dongpyo, and Hyeongjun were all pushed strongly and consistently. Un 999 Yujin, Yeseo, and obviously especially Dayeon were the three most heavily pushed.
Out of all the seasons, only 1 debuting contestant was largely ignored, and that's Bahiyyih. She got a bit in the first episode, and then only the bare minimum after that. Looking at the stats, a 53/54 ratio makes the importance of screen time blatant. The vast majority of these trainees started getting significant amounts of screen time in the first 1-5 episodes, before they could even really build up a mega dedicated fandom. Getting screen time, and getting it early, is the most consistent factor in success.
How do you get screen time? You fill an archetype that Mnet's editors want to make a story line about. Seems simple, but with how many contestants Mnet crams onto their shows, you've really got to go hard on archetype to get chosen for it. Even then, there's no guarantee the editing gods will choose you.
Major factors to winning Mnet's heart
These are aspects that play a huge hand in how much screen time you will get, and while they are not their own archetype, are extremely important to consider. Having these qualities makes you much more likely to be chosen for any archetype.
Visuals: Kpop is a media extremely focused on the visual aesthetic. A survival show is an extremely visual medium. Looking good on camera (and no, visual does not only refer to contestants who strongly fit the "korean beauty standard") is absolutely incredibly important to getting chosen for screen time. Mnet also is committing to having these contestants in their idol group, and their faces are already known: they can't do major cosmetic surgery on a winner and not have it become a controversy. Things like bad teeth being covered with veneers or smallegradual cosmetic procedures are not out of the question, but trainees who have little visual appeal going in are far less likely to be chosen. Looking good in makeup, having particularly good skin when bare-faced (this was even directly mentioned on the show in regards to Chungha), large eyes and expressive faces, being tall, especially distinctive faces, all of these factors are also considered when I'm talking about visual appeal, alongside being especially good looking and having features that kpop fans tend to like. All of the shiny boys, Jiwoong, and Oh Sungmin seem to me like the most Kpop TV suitable.
Korean Fluency: In a show with a ton of foreign trainees, being from a foreign country is not in and of itself a reason to get screen time, unlike past seasons. Comparing screen time of foreign trainees in seasons where foreigners is the gimmick and where it's not makes this distinction clear. S1 Risa got screen time because she wasn't fluent, in X Tony got a lot of screen time despite low fluency because he was one of the only foreign contestants in the first place. On 48 and 999, we see a very significant shift towards trainees with more fluency getting more screen time, and this makes sense. You want your contestants to be able to communicate in order to have a compelling show, and when you cut the general korean fluency level down significantly, it only makes sense for more fluent trainees to rise to the top. Lack of fluency is also not unique to only a few trainees, and can't be so successfully leveraged into a mini-archetype as it has been in prior seasons. It's also worth noting that very high levels of fluency don't actually improve your chances all that much as compared to basic fluency. Miyazaki Miho and Li Yiman were both much more fluent than their peers but received no special privilege as a result of this. From what I've noticed so far, Ichika seems very comfortable speaking in korean, and Keita is pretty obviously fluent. I'd imagine the contestants who are trainees of Korean agencies (Matthew, Toui, Kamden, Itsuki, Honghai, and Hiroto) likely are coming in with a much better working knowledge of korean, although I don't know how long any of them have been in their respective agencies. Krystian and Shuaibo are two trainees I've noticed seem particularly lacking in fluency, and this may very well lower their chances.
Nationality: If there's one thing GP999 made very clear, it's that the korean voter base has very little tolerance of contestants from China. Even a small scandal could easily tank their chances. It's also pretty clear that the Mnet editing team has always been biased against foreign trainees, from the very first season to the present. Unfortunately, it's pretty much a given that being Korean makes your chances higher. It's also worth pointing out, however, that Mnet loves to have a "token" foreign contestant they will push. In Produce 48 the AKB girls were blanketly implied to be untalented, but Sakura, Miyu, Jurina, and later Nako, were "the good ones." In GP999 Xiaoting, Yurina, and Hikaru had similar treatment, although there was more room given for degrees of competence among the foreign trainees. This isn't to say the implied standard of most foreign trainees not being up to snuff was gone entirely, it was still very present. It's also worth noting that historically, Mnet hasn't been very interested in promoting Thai contestants, I believe Natty is the only thai trainee to have gotten any amount of significant screen time. Vietnamese trainees is new for Mnet on one of their flagship shows, and the recent debuts of Hanbin and Hanni show a general trend in the industry towards wanting to target Vietnam a bit more, so it's fairly likely that at least one of the Vietnamese trainees will get decent screen time. It's also very clear that the industry on the whole highly values English fluency, so there's a high likelihood that at least one of the fluent english speakers will get a huge push. Mnet already tried to have the token english speaking trainee with Tony, so they will most likely do this again.
Agency: This season is going to be fairly unpredictable in this sense because of just how many contestants are from WakeOne itself making company favoritism a bit more of a toss-up, but it's still easy enough to see within the other trainees. It's pretty clear that there are several agencies Mnet has a very good relationship with, and to further that good relationship, giving their contestants generous screen time will work wonders. We also happen to know that Mnet has likely been pretty willing to take bribes from agencies, although I'm assuming they still won't be directly rigging the final lineup and that their fear of losing their empire again is still somewhat alive. Yuehua and Mnet also notably have a very strong working relationship and there's too many Yuehua trainees to figure out which ones will be pushed. Definitely at least a handful of WakeOne and Yuehua trainees should be expected to get a good push. Some agencies that also seem to have very good relationships with Mnet: Jellyfish (Yuseop+Gunwook+Hyunbeen+Yeojun), Woollim (Minseo+Seyun), MLD (Itsuki), and OUI (Seunghun & Hoyoung). It's very likely that at least one trainee from all of those agencies will get a significant push. Cube's relationship with Mnet is a bit rocky, and Mnet does really owe them one with what they did to Chowon, but it's also possible that Mnet considers themself on even footing again after their very generous Yujin push. All of the other big agencies and Mnet survival show staples also have a good chance of getting screen time: RBW (Hiroto), FNC (Kamden+Jiho+Toui), Fantagio (Honghai), and MNH (Matthew). Finally, it's worth noting that ever since S2, Mnet loves independent trainees. This is because any independent trainee is just a WakeOne artist to be, and more money directly back into their pockets rather than divided up to an outside party.
Industry Experience: It sort of goes without saying that the more experience you have performing on TV and at live stages, the more likely you are to know how to be engaging on TV and in live stages. A great example of this already is how vastly more charismatic and attention grabbing Seo Won was compared to his peers at the very beginning of the live preview stage. Despite having only debuted in 2022, it was quite obvious he knew exactly how to act and be engaging while the others beside him were charisma black holes. Another oddly important factor that idol experience helps you with is camera sense. Spotting cameras, knowing your good angles, speaking clearly when cameras are around are incredibly useful for getting the editors to like you and give a contestant a lot more flexibility in appealing to the audience. Another example so far, in many of the Here I Am focus cams it's clear that many of the trainees are terrified of losing track of the camera and are locked onto it (and some of them also lost the camera entirely), limiting their ability to just perform, while the already debuted trainees by and large all seem much less stiff and unblinking. Trainees with industry experience all tend to more adeptly archetype themselves, such as Seungyoun playing up his comedy/vitamin energy when on the show and Bora really taking charge and leading in order to guarantee herself an archetype.
Let's get into it: Breaking down Mnet's favorite archetypes
Mnet's got a ton of survival shows and several years of experience under the belt. At this point, it's very easy to point out what sort of characters they want their show to have. Here's the biggest ones, and ones that have a pretty good success rate at debut.
The Hero/Heroine: This is the protagonist of the show. In some seasons, Mnet's protagonist is a little less easy to identify, but I'll focus here on the most blatant examples. The hero/heroine is youthful and charming but there's some growing they still need to do. This weakness is typically presented in the first couple episodes, and their overcoming this weakness is usually one of the most major storylines in the season. Mnet's heroes and heroines always debut, and they get so much screen time it's difficult for them not to. They're often one of the first contestants we see, but usually not the actual first. In the first season, Mnet's protagonist was Somi: the it girl to be, from one of the biggest agencies and with a great skill set, but she's not quite there yet, still a little rough around the edges. She may have started at an A but she was reevaluated to a B. From the moment Somi appears on screen, every editing trick in the book is used to let you know that this is the main character. In Idol School, it was Chaeyoung. The very first trainee we see, and the girl whose perspective we are narratively given to see the rest of the show through. Sakura was Produce 48's heroine. She wasn't like the other AKB girls, there was something different about her. She wasn't mega talented, but there was just some glow about her that apparently made her better than the others. She wasn't especially good at singing or dancing, but she became the center in a new and unique way making props, the ingenuity of a protagonist. Yohan was X's hero, a fairly new contestant from a small label and not especially talented, but have you seen how charming he is? Look at his ingenuity to perform with heelies. Dayeon was GP999's heroine, a talented dancer but lacking in attention and charisma compared to the other centers she was up against. Chaehyun was GP999's secondary heroine, a great vocalist from a great agency but she wasn't up to snuff to debut, and she can't quite seem to sing like she knows she can on the show. She had to prove herself, and prove herself she did, Mnet wasn't going to let you think otherwise. It's a little early to know for sure who Mnet's hero will be (ep.1 will certainly make it clear) but there's a pretty good chance it will end up being Sung Hanbin, or any of the shiny boys.
The nation's leader: The trainee who takes charge in the leader role time and again and shows compassion for their teammates, but also leads them to greatness. Someone who makes level-headed calls and also helps out the weak trainees. This is a niche that several trainees will fill early in the season, but only one of them typically makes it to the finale and becomes the nation's leader. It's also an archetype that the contestants seem to know well and gun for frequently, but it's success rates aren't actually fantastic. It all started with S1's Nayoung, consistently taking the leader position and navigating group controversy in the Say My Name team, making the right calls and even getting her teammate Mina the #1 rank in the second evaluation. S2 Kim Jonghyeon was granted the title of Angel leader after he helped and took the fall for Kwon Hyunbin multiple times, and it didn't hurt that he happened the be the leader of a failing boy group who happened to (almost) all be on the show with him. Bora was GP999's similarly angelic leader, ever patient to the less talented trainees and always putting the team before herself. The nation's leader is usually one of the older trainees, and Ichika and Hui are already looking to be likely candidates. Keep an eye on trainees in the eye contact battle that seem to be very doting on their partner and helpful, especially those helping them translate. Hui's speaking Japanese for the much less confident Hyo is a classic nation's leader move.
The faildol: Often going hand in hand with the leader archetype is the trainee who seems to be way out of their league, looking lost and generally failing at every mission they try to do, but not failing too hard. Being endearing is the primary factor that makes the faildol such a successful archetype, and it's one of Mnet's absolute favorites. Birthed by Sohye in S1, the acting trainee who chose to act in the company performances instead of singing and dancing, even mispronouncing the lyrics for Irony during the final performance. Little by little she improved throughout the show, giving a dedicated underdog to root for and comparison point to show how much better [your fave] was. Hyewon's talents in 48 were similarly abysmal, with an awful company performance and a diss from the trainers in the very first episode. Her trainwreck of a Boombayah performance catapulted her and her generous team leader Chowon all the way to the top. Hyewon was a deer in headlights punching bag for the whole season, but for a certain sect of viewers that's just who they're looking for to relate to. Somebody who isn't talented (yet) but they're down to earth and likeable. Early candidate is Lee Daeul, who fans are already noticing can't dance, but at least he's cute! In kpop, for many, that's what really matters.
The wonder kid: Opposed to the last few archetypes, the wonder kid never debuts, but an Mnet show isn't complete without them. The trainee who's young, probably too young to be on the show, but wow, they sure can dance. You're kidding, they can sing too? This kid's going places. There was S2's Woojin, the tiny baby faced kid who could belt high notes and loved to be doted on. In 48, it was Haeun, dance prodigy with surprisingly strong vocals to boot. Surely these kids are too talented to overlook, until their age holds them back, but they often work wonders for this next archetype. Likely candidates are any of the 07/08 kids, we'll have to see which one gets that golden ep.1/ep.2 edit.
The Ideal Hyung/Unnie: They're effortlessly cool and pretty, down to earth in a believable way, and are always looking out for the little guy, whether that be the faildol or the wonder kid. They're probably a little doting too, but it's not quite motherly/fatherly. A little tomboyish or distinctly masculine. The sort of person you'd want to have your back, the perfect older sibling. Sejeong was that S1 girl who embodied this effortless coolness, tomboyish and caring to her other members, working in tandem with Sohye. Daniel was that guy in S2, Woojin's older brother. The guy who got all the votes from the male audience. Manly and cool and reliable. This archetype has been watered down and more of a micro-archetype in recent seasons, but I think it's pretty likely to make a resurgence this time around, especially with the contesants skewing older.
The One True Main Vocal: Is pretty self explanatory. It's the trainee who can hit high notes like no other. Every kpop group needs a main vocalist and this trainee is essential for the debut team. Typically this means they barely scrape by to the final elimination and get panic-voted into the lineup. It's also key for there to be several contestants of this archetype, so Mnet can pit them against each other for drama. This archetype can even pretty consistently make the debut team even after getting some bad edits. Yeonjung was the successful archetype on S1, her fantastic Into The New World performance letting her make it to debut despite several late season bad edits. S2's successful competitor was Jaehwan, who double dipped with another archetype (the miracle independent trainee) which I won't think will be relevant this season. S3 saw Jo Yuri debut despite the plethora of main vocal competitors she was regularly pitted against (Goeun, Haeyoon, Chowon, 48 had so many people vying for this one role). Kim Taerae seems like he'll be in the running, but there will definitely be many more alongside him.
The Born Dancer: Also self explanatory, these are the trainees that are the best dancers on the planet and Mnet is going to make sure you know it, even if you don't know anything about dance whatsoever. They've probably been dancing since they were a baby, and they probably also learn choreography in 30 seconds. S1's Chungha and 48's Chaeyeon are the two most memorable examples and the ones who relied on this one archetype the most. Unlike when it comes to main vocals, there will probably only be one main dancer push from mnet, despite many potential candidates.
The Underdog: There's something inherently underwhelming about his trainee, but when they come on stage they come alive. Maybe they're meek and shy, maybe their visuals aren't up to snuff, but that just makes them more relatable. Maybe they just aren't ranking as high as the objectively should, and that just makes you root for them harder. S1's Choi Yoojung is the poster child, F ranked trainee who wouldn't talk to anyone and sat quietly in misery yet comes out on top soaring up the rankings and into your heart. X saw Hyeongjun struggle his way up from X rank with many tears, and we know Mnet loves tears. 999's underdog was Youngeun, the unlikely winner with with crazy stage presence that endeared her to many.
The Vitamin: Endlessly energetic, naturally funny, and always optimistic. Mnet loves to have a tense scene of team conflict then immediately cut to a vitamin doing something endearing for the cameras. The vitamin is the variety star to be. 48's Choi Yena is the golden example of this archetype, showering everyone in vitamin energy from her very first moment on screen. X's Seungyoun also heavily played into this archetype early on. While the success-rate for vitamins has definitely gone down over time, their frequency has not wavered, and there will surely be several this season as well.
The Flower Boy: A little effeminate, probably very comfortable doing aegyo. They're usually a bit of a toned down vitamin, and they're often a big victim of mnet forcing shipping. Smiley and upbeat and will probably be put into a fluffy sweater at some point. Park Jihoon almost won S2 with this archetype and Daehwi also fit within it. X had Dongpyo and Hyeongjun among many less successful candidates. Woonggi and Sungmin were World Klass' flower boys so there's a decent chance they'll take up the mantle again. From what I've seen, Seo Won or Jung Hojin might also fit this archetype well.
The Big 3 Dropout: A trainee once from a prestigious company but who got overlooked for debut and is now on the rocks, desperate for debut. Mnet makes sure you know they're a bit different from the rest, there's something inherently better about them. They must be talented to have been in such a big agency, but they're also a built in underdog for having failed already. Idol School played into this so blatantly they grouped three of them into a trio that was used consistently through the whole show the holy SM/YG/JYP trinity of Herin/Seoyeon/Jiwon. 48's Chaeyeon was the ultimate ex-jyp underdog. 999 had both Chaehyun from SM and Mashiro from JYP. It's worth noting that Mnet hasn't highlighted any ex-YG trainees since 48, and in 48 the edit for them was terrible, so it seems only SM and JYP get this privilege now. Being from a Big 3 agency isn't a guarantee you'll get this archetype either, you just have to get lucky and hope Mnet picks you to be the lucky one, there's always many who get overlooked. The Loud contestants have a good chance of getting this archetype for this season.
The Desperate Idol: Maybe their group is struggling, maybe it's already gone. Regardless, this is a trainee who's already made debut but has struggled to find success for one reason or another. Every season has a ton of contestants who have already debuted in one way or another but you've got to be from a decently high profile group to score this archetype. What's important that you know about this contestant is that it might just be their last chance. Don't you feel sorry for them? Aren't they too good to let slip through the cracks? The likelihood of a very nugu group member getting this edit is very unlikely. S1 had Chaeyeon, S2 had NU'EST, 48 had Kaeun, X had Wooseok, and 999 had Yujin. Hui is a given for this edit, but it's also possible the guys from Up10tion might get it too. Woonggi and Sungmin are unlikely to get this edit due to the circumstances of their leaving the group, and Seunghwan is also unlikely due to be the winner of an MBC survival show. Can't be promoing the rival networks. The other contestants from other groups are likely all much too nugu for mnet to name drop them.

We did a Halloween adventure today! The boy went to get the candy to hand out but found that it was missing! In its place was a diary and a long strip of seemingly random letters.
The diary belonged to the tiny scarecrow we had made a few weeks ago. It detailed his new apprenticeship as the first non-fairy tooth fairy, and his slow decent into anti-sugar (and therefore Halloween candy) madness. The history of The Contract between fairies and the class of humans who can see them (now called dentists), in which fairies may only exchange teeth for money and not interfere in the human world, was briefly touched upon, but the scarecrow thought he had found a work around because he was a scarecrow, not a fairy and that he would be able to rid our house of candy and save lots of precious teeth. In the end he was wrong, and his punishment was inanimation, but he had already stashed the candy somewhere.
The long paper had a small message on the back: use my spine. We had at one point used a paper towel tube to hold the pumpkin head up on our scarecrow, and had drawn a comedy spine on it. Wrapping the paper around this spine led to a cupboard with a box of halloween chocolates and a Fairynet log in name.
On the laptop there was a new log in and a post-it note labeled PIN with a smiley face for mint (like toothpaste!) : for orange and raspberry (fructose is sugar too!) and :( for caramel (obviously bad). When they opened the sealed packet of Halloween chocolates with mint, raspberry, orange, and caramel fillings, they found that some of them were missing. The pin was the number of remaining chocolates in each flavor.
Logging into the computer showed a browser with two tabs open, one a song called "under the pillow" and the other a picture of someone washing their face.
Under the pillow a treasure chest and a washcloth were found, but no way to get into the chest.
The pumpkin had a painted face rather than carved and when his face was washed away, a message appeared (written in permanent marker): in my head!
When the pumpkin was smashed, a key came out to unlock the treasure chest. The chest contained a dot-to-dot which formed the message "freeze diary back cover." and a bunch of fairy shorthand (mentioned in the diary)
The last puzzle is a bit difficult to explain, but when the diary was frozen some fairy shorthand symbols appeared in a circle on the back, and when joined up could form letters.
If they looked a bit like this,

All joined up they spelled out "public portal" (which, again, had been referenced in the diary as being a tree in the front of our house).
In the tree they found a bag of candy and a very tiny and apologetic letter from the head tooth fairy assuring them that the fairies did not condone candy theft and that the experiment with employing non-fairies had been terminated.
Overall things went OK. I wish I had trickled diary entries out, which had been my original intention, but I wanted them to get the cover into the freezer with lots of time to get the invisible ink to reappear. It was kind of a lot of text all in one go, and there was a bit of clue mix-up resulting in the diary going into the oven instead of the freezer.
The diary said that the scarecrow couldn't fit through the small portal planted in our back yard so he had to use the public portal to commute to his fairy training. It was meant to be a throw away bit of the story until the last clue when they realized where they had to look, but one of the puzzlers kept saying, "we have to remember to go check the public portal!" which, again, could have been prevented by trickling out diary entries.
The dot-to-dot was there to show how the joining up puzzle worked, but I wish I had just said the join the symbols up instead.
Overall a success, although the 10 year old puzzler said, "I didn't want to have to work for my candy!"

Hello all, first time poster here so I hope I'm following all the rules ^^
I am trying to post a supportive comment under a specific video on a small YT channel of a minor sports team that just lost a crushing series & was eliminated for the rest of the season. I've been able to comment on their other videos no problem, & this specific video shows 1 comment from another user, so I know they didn't disable commenting on it. However, every time I comment it gets deleted upon refreshing the page. I can only assume it's getting marked as spam somehow.
So my question is what exactly triggers the AI to flag my comments as spam? I've tried removing all links, posting without any emojis/smileys, shortening my comment, & even using only "proper" words (no slang or shorthand lol) but they always get deleted. I know YT also flags spam if you've posted similar comments on other videos, but I definitely haven't.
I'm just trying to show the team some love :( They pretty much never get comments aside from me & I'm really frustrated that I can't post a nice comment on this video, which not only is a sad one but also their last for the rest of the season...

When holodecks come up in discussions about Star Trek, one of the bigger questions is how far an officer's privacy goes when it comes to their activities on the holodeck. I'd posit to you that while a Starfleet officer would have a lot of privacy in that setting, it wouldn't be an absolute thing. There would be set limits about how far is too far, both in terms of what's socially acceptable in the Federation at large and what's permissible under Starfleet regulations.
There probably would be limits about recreations of fellow officers. Stuff like what Barclay was doing in Hollow Pursuits, with his holographic recreations of officers that are often either portrayed as ridiculous villains or as less than subtle romantic interests, would be outside of those limits. This kind of recreation could easily be taken as denigrating fellow officers, which can cause professional tensions and morale issues.
It's also the kind of issue that could easily escalate in scope in the right circumstances. While in Hollow Pursuits, Barclay was happy enough to keep his program to himself, this might not always be the case. Perhaps there'd come a day where another malcontent officer came onboard the Enterprise and they connected with Barclay. After a while, they might both be involved in creating these holoprograms. Once there were two, how long until there were three, or four, or a dozen, or half the ship?
This kind of thing would be against Starfleet's code of conduct for two obvious reasons. One is that this kind of program would easily be seen as purposefully denigrating. Nobody wants to find out about a program where the ship's weirdo has portrayed them as being a villain in a Robin Hood-esque story, or that the same weirdo has fucked a holographic recreation of them.
The other reason is the obvious morale issues it could cause. The guy who makes that kind of program is also someone who's suffering from a breakdown of personal discipline. This would make them a liability in an emergency, whether it be a combat situation or a complicated engineering issue that needs all hands on deck. There'd always be the chance he'd be fucking around in the holodeck when he needs to be doing something else.
The big question here is under what circumstances would it be okay for someone to check in on what a subordinate has been doing on the holodeck. This is something that no Star Trek show has fleshed out entirely to date. In Hollow Pursuits, Barclay's programs were investigated because he'd been flagged as a problem officer who'd been spending an inordinate amount of time on the holodeck. There was a genuine concern about both his abilities as an officer and his mental health.
However, time spent on the holodeck isn't the only factor involved. While Nog spending an inordinate amount of time in the holosuite during It's Only A Paper Moon was flagged as a cause for concern, it also wasn't yet a big enough concern for Sisko and Kira to march on over to the Promenade to forcefully drag him out.
I think there'd be two deciding factors. The first issue would be if an officer was seen as being a problem when on duty. This explains why Barclay's holodeck addiction was an issue but Nog's was not. Nog was on medical leave when he was spending days at a time at Vic's, so this wasn't affecting his other duties, but Barclay was having all kinds of other issues even when he was on duty.
The other deciding factor would be the likelihood of this being an issue that affects the rest of the crew. Because Barclay was a part of the Enterprise's engineering team, him having an off day wouldn't just affect him. If his bad day was bad enough, it could cause huge damage to the ship's systems or slow repair efforts down to a snail's pace. Him spending time on the holodeck when he was supposed to be on duty also meant he was potentially leaving the engineering team shorthanded if a crisis came up. This wasn't the case for Nog because, again, he was on medical leave during It's Only A Paper Moon.
What this leads up to is why superior officers would even be allowed to check a subordinate's holodeck programs to begin with. The short answer is that it's the military. Even though Starfleet isn't exclusively a military organisation, it's still effectively the Federation's military.
This means that being in Starfleet is technically a service, and rights you might have as a civilian aren't always applicable to officers. This happens in armed forces in the real world to an extent as well. Just last year, the US's Department of Defense released a new policy limiting what kind of flags could be displayed on military bases, for example. Just as someone in the United States Army might not have total freedom of expression when in uniform, a Starfleet officer wouldn't, either.
Because Starfleet tends to be a military organisation with a smiley face, they would tend to avoid going straight for the court martial for this, though. What we see in Barclay's case is that he gets regular counseling sessions after Hollow Pursuits and The Nth Degree at least implies that he's been getting one-on-one coaching from LaForge. It'd only be in particularly egregious or repeat offenses that an officer would get a court martial for this.
This all helps to explain one of Tuvok's larger motivations for keeping his holographic training simulation about a Maquis mutiny a secret until it was discovered during Worst Case Scenario. While this kind of program might be technically permissible under Starfleet's code of conduct, it could be in a grey area. Tuvok's motivations for creating the program were noble and in the interests of ship's security, but once it became clear the Maquis crew weren't likely to mutiny, the program would likely be seen in a different light.
So while Insurrection Alpha might not be explicitly against the Code of Conduct, there are circumstances where it could still be seen as unprofessional if it was discovered by the wrong person or seen in certain contexts. Thus, it makes sense for Tuvok to keep it a secret.
There'd also be the chance that it'd be taken to be against the code anyway. Because there weren't many people who could be skills coaching Tuvok or giving him counseling, Janeway might have no choice but to court martial him. This would be an absurd proposition of course, because the only people who could court martial him are people whose likeness had been used in Insurrection Alpha.
The motivation of keeping a program that'd be regarded as unprofessional a secret has been a motivation for other officers as well. The notorious example of this is LaForge keeping the holodeck program he'd created in Booby Trap a secret from Leah Brahms in Galaxy's Child. I think this is one of those issues where the perceived lack of professionalism regarding the program would probably have been lessened had LaForge told Brahms about the program straight up without her having to discover it for herself, though.
So the things that'd generally be considered unprofessional but not prosecutable would be stuff where a person creates a recreation of a real person or a coworker, but does so for then-relevant professional concerns. Tuvok would get a pass because his work got reinterpreted as being a fun but unfinished game, but LaForge's program got seen as a holographic fuck buddy.
I'd posit that most recreations of living people, especially if they're a coworker, would generally be considered to be unprofessional. Usually there wouldn't be much in the way of pushback for this because it'd generally be seen as being difficult to prove malicious intent, though.

It's been so tough at work lately. We are shorthanded, at times overwhelmed. Yesterday I just had it with everyone. I looked to put people straight and get in their face- get them to stop fucking with me. (Long story short- interim boss is disingenuous. She decided we were to go to a funeral of a guy who died in our department. Didn't ask, just said we're going. I felt she overstepped and told her so in harsh terms. She denied ever saying we had to go, and was really bitchy, halfway apologized and said "Take it or leave it." thus ending the argument. I tossed in some barbs but at that point she was closed off.)
So I got home and the guilt set in. I'm a guy and felt bad that I had let loose on a woman. Apologized to her. Kept turning over the conversation in my mind, like a dog with a bone. Things aren't going to be the same for a while, at least until the next scandal sets in.
Slept poorly last night, and just before waking up had the drinking dream many of you have experienced. The gist of mine was that I drank to allay the feelings- and being here on Stopdrinking, resetting my badge. Vividly saw the smiley faced "1". With tremendous relief I realized in reality another milestone had been reached, and although I still have crap feelings to deal with and endure- they aren't amplified tenfold by being drunk/ hung over.

I've been seeing my boyfriend for around six months. We had an instant spark, and make eachother laugh a lot. I love lots of things about him. I hear lots of hints from him that he would like to see this relationship flourish. I once got upset about something insensitive he had done and he admitted to me that he had written in his journal that I was his perfect woman and that if he cant make it work with me he can't with anyone (I did have to get upset for him to admit that but still...).
The thing that bothers me....
The crux of the problem is that he quite regularly says things that hurt my feelings. He would describe himself as 'blunt','honest' and 'logical'. But is this just shorthand for being a bit of an insensitive dick?
He said early on that he likes my 'thick skin' because I'm able to laugh off his silly insults and that compared to a lot of the girls he has dated I get his humour. But sometimes he says things which don't feel funny. I feel angry right now as there have been a few comments in the past week (during our first ever weekend away) and I don't know whether to confront him about it and possibly end the relationship (it feels like a potential red flag), just put it down to clumsiness on his part, or try and work it through with him. I have been quite patient already, I feel, although I've never confronted this issue directly.
As an example, whilst drawing my portrait he said that I had a 'featureless face'. I made some sort of sarcastic 'thanks' back (I was quite embarrassed as we were in front of his housemate) and he said he meant I was pretty and it's difficult to draw pretty people as they have 'less obvious features' to draw.
The day before, in a rare moment of vulnerability I said I feel a bit fat at the moment and like I have a belly (it was a big thing for me to admit this). He replied that I wasn't fat, but 'well-fed'. I was clearly offended at this, and he didnt back down or apologise - just repeated it (for context, I'm UK size 10 - hardly a heifer, and not that it matters). It was very awkward, as it was on our first ever little break away together, but I now feel angry about it and like he consciously or unconsciously seemed to want to increase my insecurity instead of soothing it. It's not like I regularly fish for compliments; I was just having one vulnerable moment. He seems generally a bit funny about food - comments that we've eaten enough and don't need dessert, makes me feel a bit self conscious about ordering it (he also regularly doesnt eat much before we see eachother so he can indulge; perhaps he thinks I should do this too).
Reading between the lines, he seems to have offended a lot of girls he's dated - and this is partly why his relationships haven't worked out. One girl who he describes as 'crazy' texted him angry messages for two years after they'd broken up because she was so angry at him still (he mentioned one message which was about his insults).
I looked through our last few interactions by text and many of his replies to me are sarcastic. I sent him a picture of myself in a flower crown at a friend's wedding (I was bridemaid) and he sent me back a smiley face - and a picture of a dog wearing a flower crown. I said I'd meet him when I got back to our home city but that I'd have a little suitcase with me and his reply was 'just one'? It's tiring.
I'll admit that I have mostly found his humour and cheekiness funny, and I can give as good as I get on occasion. This week my responses have been spikier due to feeling tired of it all.
He also seems to bring up his insecurities in a sideways way, so that I can't directly address them. For instance, I once said that if I don't like a book I will stop reading it as I don't see the point in wasting time reading something I don't like, and he joked that I'm like that with men (I'm not, but I can see why he might think so - he's never dared to ask details of why I've had a few failed relationships).
He also joked TWICE on our first little holiday about my 'future boyfriends'. I find this hurtful and bizarre. Perhaps he wants some sort of reassurance or reaction from me, but I feel blindsided and immaturely joked later about his 'future girlfriend' to give him a taste of his own medicine (as I said, I've gotten spikier in the last week!).
I am finding that he's perhaps slightly cynical and untrusting of people in general. I feel like I've been waiting for him to soften and trust me, which is happening slowly, and he's doing sweet things like making plans for the rest of the year and saying things like I'd be a great mum) but with it the jokes are becoming less funny and more like actual insults.
Context....
I've picked up that he seems to be maybe a little intimidated by my dating experience (as one of a few examples, he's compared his never having had a 'proper' girlfriend to my previous long-term relationship and said I obviously know how to do them etc).
He's also perhaps a little competitive about work stuff. We're both freelance, and I've been very busy since we started dating whereas he's had hardly had any work. He once sarcastically mimicked me when I mentioned I'd won an award for something, along the lines of 'I'm just so good at everything'. It was only once, and he's mostly supportive, but I don't like where it comes from and I notice myself censoring good things that happen to me at work incase they make him feel worse about situation which I know is stressing him out a lot.
I think that underneath he is a good person, and I've noticed he has a very high level of empathy - when I've called him out on stuff before (like his insulting banter) he's looked mortified and upset, and he's displayed real and genuine feeling for me when I've been upset about other things which are unrelated to him.
For context, I'm generally a patient and accomodating person - I can be way too accommodating - and have stayed in relationships that I knew in my heart weren't right for way too long too many times. I'm looking for the person I want to settle down with, and I'm worried about making a mistake again. So perhaps I'm wary.
On the other hand, I can be a picky perfectionist and someone who sees the worst in things people say to me and takes them more to heart than perhaps I should. I have noticed though that many people seem to have enough sensitivity to pretty much never offend me so this isn't a universal issue in my relationships. My ex used to say I was too sensitive a lot as a way of invalidating my feelings. Looking back, I think I had a right to be upset and it has slightly affected my ability to trust myself in situations like this (I believe it could have been gaslighting). Hence why I'd like some second opinions!

I think my boyfriend means well and has genuine feelings for me but he seems to put his foot in his mouth a lot and sometimes the comments just seem a little nasty and unsupportive. I really like him and would be super sad if we broke up, but I don't want to continue in a relationship with someone who's potentially emotionally abusive and would value some objectivity here about some of the things he says. I also don't want to be needlessly offended if he's just a bit clumsy with his words.

Process

How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.
The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /hockey!

Suter won’t have to back to backs to worry about which is important as he looked gassed against Florida after playing nearly 30 minutes in Tampa. Our schedule for the season comprises of 2xLeafs, 2xBruins, 3xCaps, 1xBlues, 1xArizona, 1xMontreal and 1xCarolina. Over half of the remaining games are against the next top 3 teams in the East and most of the others are against teams fighting for a playoff spot. Tampa has to have one of the most difficult remaining schedules and wins will not come easy down the stretch. But I don’t think I would want it any other way.
2 (2.4)	Boston Bruins	1	42-18-9	3-1-0	The point streak was bound to end and at 19 games with at least a point, it's been impressive. Without the streak hovering over the Bruins heads, the focus can get back to getting the team healthy for a push into the playoffs.You have to feel bad for Krejci who has played with 13 different wingers this season and is the only Bruin to play in every game this season too. He's been carrying the workload as well for the second line with a goal streak going too. The major concern right now is the 3rd line of Cehlarik-Coyle-Backes. It's giving me flashbacks to Beleskey-Hayes-Vatrano. Like then as now, the 4th line is producing more points than the 3rd. At least Coyle finally registered an assist against the Pens.
3 (4.36)	San Jose Sharks	1	41-19-8	2-0-0	Good week for the Sharks with 2 nice wins against the Habs and Blues. It's nice to take first in the Pacific, but I'm really just hoping the team stays healthy for the playoffs. With Karlsson and Kane out, and a flu going around the locker room I'd rather see the Sharks rest and keep their chemistry going than push themselves too hard to win the division.
4 (4.52)	Toronto Maple Leafs	1	42-21-5	2-0-1	Know what's pretty awesome? Being a Top 3 team in the league. Know what's less awesome? The only two teams better than you being in your division. At least we're on track to be the huge underdogs of Round 1, right? So TOR is a) expected to lose & b) if not, then beating BOS would just be extremely, extremely humiliating for such an amazing and favored team, right? No pressure, Bruins. This week was mostly good for the Leafs. I wouldn't read too much into the VAN loss (IIRC TOR still have the best "leading after 2" record) and the Leafs clearly assumed EDM was a straight up CHL level squad after 58 mins (which was wrong--they're AHL level at minimum...jkjk Oil Nation). The CGY game had some lucky bounces but despite what CGY fans claim, the game was played pretty evenly (check the 5v5 SVA #s and remember TOR was missing 3 key players) and Freddy >>> Rittich so...6-2? That said, TOR (and Babs specifically) have a lot of room for improvement still. 14 games left to sort it out.
5 (5.56)	Washington Capitals	1	41-21-7	3-0-0	We are getting hot at just the right time and it’s a good thing too as it is getting packed at the bottom. It is no coincidence that this streak started right at the same time we got Jensen. He has brought the stability we needed at the back and our defense is starting to round to form. This team did go 12-3 down the stretch to end the season last year soooo we know when is the right time to get hot.
6 (6.48)	Calgary Flames	-4	42-20-7	1-3-0	Managed to stem the bleeding against Vegas but this team just needs to get in sync. If our goalies play well, our offense doesn’t show up. If our offense shows up then our goalies play closer to average. There has to happy medium between the two otherwise we may as well try to run and gun it for the rest of the season since that seems one of the few ways we are able to win games.
7 (7.68)	Winnipeg Jets	-	40-24-4	1-2-0	Two losses, and one win? Yeah, Jets are losing games, but they’re looking good doing it. I’d say, let’s start the playoffs tomorrow and get this adventure going, but on second thought, having our 1RHD and 1LHD would be worth waiting for. Trouba has been a wet bag of disembodied lips for the last stretch, and he’s making us all incontinent. Nothing left to do but finish up the season, get healthy, have Wheeler break the franchise points in a season record (Hossa, 100), and meet Arizona in the first round as destiny requires.
8 (9.28)	New York Islanders	-	39-22-7	2-1-0	Despite an ok record on paper for the week, the Islanders have looked worryingly bad. They barely escaped with W's against the dreadful Senators and had their shit handed to them by Philadelphia. Not long ago they were riding high and looking at potentially claiming their first division title in decades, but with their recent play they need to focus on just making the playoffs. Their cushion is small and their play inspires no confidence. Updates to the health of Lehner and Boychuk will be the main stories to watch this week
9 (9.48)	Vegas Golden Knights	2	38-27-5	2-1-0	First loss in the Stone Age. Can’t be that mad as we really should be resting Fluery down the stretch . He is currently on pace to play a career high 70 games. That is way too heavy a workload for a goalie and a team with Stanley cup aspirations.
10 (10.24)	Carolina Hurricanes	-1	37-24-7	1-1-1
11 (10.32)	Nashville Predators	-1	39-26-5	1-1-0	The Preds are apparently taking a page from the Thanos school of thought, as they kept their recent .500 form going this week. There are an increasing number of glimpses of the great play that this team is capable of; however, those glimpses continue to be perfectly balanced by moments of poor play and penalties. Boyle, Granlund, and Simmonds seem to be developing chemistry and getting comfortable on the team, putting up points and seemingly beginning to spark some players on the team that have been lacking. A grueling schedule that's seen the Preds lead the league in Games Played for the majority of year is already giving way to a decompressed final dozen games. With any luck not only will the players get a chance to recover and gather energy for the playoffs, but hopefully they can also parlay that into a hot streak as they play teams on a more condensed schedule.
12 (11.88)	Pittsburgh Penguins	3	37-23-9	3-1-0	Penguins won some super-important games against the Blue Jackets recently, as well as an unlikely back of a back-to-back against Boston. Dropping 2 against CBJ in that first game is worse than ideal but in the immortal word of Meatloaf, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Jake Guentzel almost leads the league in even-strength goals, tied with Ovechkin for 3rd with 30, and both Jackson and Gudbranson have been playing serviceable hockey for the past five games now. The Penguins, as they're playing now, are a threat to anyone they draw in the first round, assuming they draw someone in the first round.
13 (12.24)	St. Louis Blues	-1	36-25-7	2-0-1	Friendship over with Binnington, Allen is my new best friend. Wait I think I've heard this song before.
14 (12.76)	Columbus Blue Jackets	-1	38-27-3	2-1-0	This week needed to end with the Jackets getting 4 of 6 points -- and they did exactly that. The worst looking game of the week was vs the Devils, too. Despite being shut out 3-0 in Pittsburgh on Thursday, the Jackets seemed like they were starting to gel with the deadline additions, and on Saturday, in front of a sell out crowd,against a team they were 0-7-1 in their past 8 games, it looked like things were finally starting to click. If the Jackets that played on Saturday show up in the games remaining, there won't be any issue getting into the playoffs.
15 (15.12)	Montreal Canadiens	-1	36-26-7	1-2-0	(╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ Two games where we didn't get to see Kotka goofy ass smiley face. Two games where we ate shit. CBJ, Pens and Canes pulling out wins, and I had to debate weather to rank the Bruins 1st or 2nd in these power ranking: will the indignanties ever end? Not NHL but congrats to the Les Canadiennes, who won thier series with the Markham thunder and are off to the Clarkson Cup finals :)
16 (15.72)	Dallas Stars	-	35-28-5	2-1-0	Stars have had great goaltending recently, but we continue to struggle offensively some games. Every game feels critical now. The race for wildcards and 3rd in the Central is extremely close. 4 games this week, and we need 6 points including a win in Minnesota. Stars have had great goaltending recently.
17 (16.52)	Arizona Coyotes	2	34-29-5	2-1-0	Grabner misses nearly 40 games this season and in one game captures the lead in shorthanded goals. We are one point out of the playoffs despite all the injuries, despite not having a single player in the top 100 in terms of points. It is fun to be playing meaningful games down the stretch.
18 (17.8)	Philadelphia Flyers	-	33-27-8	1-1-0	Im really good at remembering to do this exactly one hour before its due Flyers do alright this week. Beat the islanders, lost to the caps, but every game is so important now. We arent dead, but its an uphill battle. With hart coming back hopefully Monday, we can have a good push down the line. Hail Gritty
19 (18.04)	Minnesota Wild	-2	33-28-8	1-1-1	Nothing like going into Tampa and convincingly shut out the odds-on Cup favorites and then have a 7-game point streak snapped by the Florida Panthers in what can only be classified as an absolute drubbing. Your 2018-2019 Minnesota Wild, everyone. On top of that, the "Every Day I Need Attention" Cake-Eaters won the boys and girls state titles. At least the hockey hair was on point.
20 (19.88)	Colorado Avalanche	-	30-27-12	2-1-0	We face Minnesota and Dallas once more each, both are must wins. Landeskog is out for the remainder of the regular season. This is unfortunate, but we have been relatively lucky with injuries all season. The Avs looked dominate vs Buffalo and Detroit, just couldn't put chances away vs the wings. The Dallas game was a different story and showed the RML (Top Line) should likely be dead, when that line is shut down the rest of the team is flat. This is the positive news of the Captains injury, the coaching staff are going to split Mackinnon and Rantanen up so we can see how much Rantanen can carry a line. MacKinnon is catching fire with two muti-point games this week. We are going to need him to launch us into the playoffs. We have three home games this coming week. First Carolina on Monday, as both of us are fighting for playoff spots. then then the Ducks and finally New Jersey. 4 out of 6 is required, 6 of 6 is possible.

22 (22.24)	Chicago Blackhawks	1	29-30-9	2-0-0	Patrick Kane (now at 925P in 889GP) passed Steve Larmer (923P in 891GP) for the 4th-most points in franchise history. With a 2-1 win Saturday over the Stars, the Blackhawks broke a streak of 16 consecutive games with a total of 7 or more goals scored (since Jan 22). They also broke a 29-game streak of allowing 2 or more goals (since Dec 21). David Kampf returned to the lineup after missing a month due to a broken bone in his right foot. Per Evolving Hockey, he has been the best forward in the NHL (and 6th best skater) in expected goals against per 60 this season.
23 (23.24)	Buffalo Sabres	-2	30-29-9	0-2-1	Looks like Jack is out for two games, what a goon. It was nice of him to wait to get suspended until after our season was over and/or after a shutout loss indicative of this franchise as a whole. I think its safe to chalk up losses against Dallas and Pittsburgh at this point, unless elite 1C Casey Mittelstadt and new recruit/potential top line winger Alex Nylander each put up thirty somehow.
24 (23.48)	Edmonton Oilers	1	30-31-7	2-1-0	Two loses. One in regulation, and one in a SO. But still that means the Oilers are 6-2-2 in their last ten. It's just unfortunate that most teams vying for playoff wildcard spot is much the same. The Oilers really need to continue doing well to keep up with this league, but the playoffs are nearly impossible now. That being said, there's a good chance to finish strong, and it's what I'd value more than a high draft pick, at least for my psyche.

26 (25.44)	Vancouver Canucks	-	28-32-9	1-2-0	The comeback win against the Toronto Maple Leafs was very satisfying. The losses against the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights were very unsatisfying. The team signed Quin Hughes to end the week, which is a nice bit of news. But that does nothing to help them in the power rankings. The team continues their 1 - 2 pace since early February. If this continues, we can expect 4 or 5 wins over the rest of the season, good for the low-70 point finish that everyone predicted at the beginning of the season but then forgot about and now are upset to see.
27 (27.08)	Anaheim Ducks	3	27-34-9	2-2-0	Troy Terry American Hero with 7 points this week including back to back 3 point games. Max Jones gets his first NHL goal. Silfverberg has been the most consistent player since the trade deadline. But the tank must roll on. Ending the week with a loss against the kings to stay on track to a decent draft pick. Everything is going according to plan.
28 (27.68)	New Jersey Devils	-1	25-35-9	0-2-1	The Devils having become the walking wounded to a comical level at this point. 1-5-1 in the past 2 weeks? Tank away boys. Blackwood still really good btw.

30 (29.4)	Los Angeles Kings	-2	25-36-8	1-3-0	Despite how turrrrrible this season has been- it is amazing that the Kings were only shut out for the third time all season by the Blues. We've one one of the last fourteen games. REAL BAD.
31 (31)	Ottawa Senators	-	23-40-6	0-2-1	The Golden Knights continued the Stone Age by destroying Mark Stone's junior stomping ground of Western Canada this week. They beat the Canucks twice by a combined score of 9-2, and more importantly beat the slumping Flames by a score of 2-1. That win closed the gap between the two teams in the standings to 8 points, which will still be difficult to overcome but not insurmountable when the best winger in the NHL is wearing #61 for your team. With 6 straight wins and only one loss since Mark Stone joined the Knights, it is evident that they will win the Stanley Cup this season.
