How to Find Cheap Land in Arkansas: Tips and Tricks
Arkansas, recognized as the Natural State, offers plentiful opportunities for individuals interested in investing in real estate. With its varied landscapes, cost-effective lifestyle, and thriving job sector, Arkansas presents a perfect environment to acquire economic property. Whether your aim is constructing your ideal residence, commencing a farm, or investing in real estate, numerous options are at your disposal to uncover budget-friendly property in Arkansas. In this piece, we will delve into the strategies and secrets to aid you in your quest for inexpensive property in this charming state.
The initial step in locating economical property in Arkansas is setting your financial plan and defining your requirements for a piece of property. Are you searching for land for agricultural, hunting, or recreational purposes? Are you interested in a sizable plot of land or a smaller plot to construct a dwelling? Once you have a clear vision of your objectives, you can kick off your search with specific criteria in mind.
Engaging with a local real estate agent specializing in land transactions is one of the optimal methods to pinpoint cost-effective property in Arkansas. They possess insight into the local market, access to listings, and proficiency in negotiating transactions. A local agent can assist you in identifying properties that align with your requirements and provide advice on the most favorable regions for investment. They can also guide you through the acquisition process to ensure you secure a fair deal.
Aside from collaborating with a real estate agent, you can also scout online for property listings in Arkansas. Numerous real estate platforms focus on land sales, such as LandWatch, Land And Farm, and Zillow. These websites enable you to filter land options based on criteria like size, location, and price range. You can set up alerts to notify you when new properties meeting your specifications become available.
During your online property search, target listings that have lingered on the market for an extended period. Sellers with long-standing listings may be more inclined to negotiate on pricing. Additionally, consider exploring properties up for auction. Auctions present a fruitful avenue for discovering affordable land, with properties frequently selling below market value. Prior to participating, ensure you grasp the auction process and comprehend the terms and conditions before making a bid.
Another avenue for unearthing economical property in Arkansas is exploring distressed properties. Distressed properties, encompassing foreclosures or short sales, often come with discounted price tags. While these properties may necessitate some enhancements, they can prove to be a lucrative asset with judicious investment. You can scout for distressed properties on real estate websites and via local banking institutions and credit unions.
After identifying potential properties, conducting comprehensive due diligence is crucial prior to extending an offer. Consider engaging a land surveyor to define property boundaries and flag any potential concerns like easements or zoning limitations. Additionally, research the locality where the land is situated, including insights into the local education system, crime statistics, and property valuations.
When tendering an offer on a piece of land, be prepared to engage in negotiations with the seller. Initiate discussions with a modest offer and be willing to step away if the seller demonstrates reluctance to negotiate. Offering to make a swift cash payment or expedited closure can serve as potent incentives for the seller to accept your offer. Ensure all agreements are documented in writing and encompass contingencies like professional inspections and financing approval.
In tandem with negotiations, explore financing options for securing land in Arkansas. You can apply for a conventional mortgage, a specialized land loan, or contemplate seller financing. Seller financing can be an advantageous route for acquiring budget-friendly land, enabling you to make monthly payments directly to the seller sans involving a bank. Scrutinize the financing agreement terms, encompassing interest rates, repayment structures, and penalties for early settlement.
Post land acquisition, contemplate the long-term investment potential. If your land purchase is oriented towards development or investment, weigh the prospects for appreciation over time. For personal utilization like home construction or farming ventures, assess the costs associated with enhancements such as land clearing, infrastructure development, and permit procurement. Factor in these expenses, formulate a budget, and chart a clear plan for land utilization.
In conclusion, procuring inexpensive property in Arkansas is feasible with diligent investigation, thorough preparation, and adept negotiation prowess. By collaborating with a local real estate specialist, scouring online listings, exploring distressed properties, and pondering financing alternatives, you can unearth economic land that meets your financial plan and aspirations. Undertake meticulous research, engage in seller negotiations, and chart a definitive plan for land utilization. Armed with the right approach, you are poised to acquire a slice of the enigmatic Natural State and relish all that Arkansas has to offer.

2024.05.18 22:17 TheBlaringBlue Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (Analysis & Pseudo-Review)

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is such a good game despite being so… well… basic.
It’s simple — almost overly so — yet it is beloved by so many seasoned and experienced gamers.
What I got curious about after playing the game myself and reading a number of pseudo-reviews online was how exactly it achieved this.
How did a package so entry-level-looking garner such respect by 201 and 301 students?
--
The ‘Fields’ region is a great example of Kena’s dichotomy.
It’s gorgeous and inviting, with sea-foamed vistas, lush landscape and rushing waterways. There’s a even a big, lovable pet bull towering over the myriad of cute little Rot dudes scampering through the foliage. The whole place is just friendly.
Why then, does it end up being one of the game’s longest, deepest and most complex sections? Consider its many scattered puzzles, which ask you to combine platforming, archery, environmental awareness and combat proficiency. There’s even a handful of red herring platforms that you can’t properly interact with until later in your puzzle solving endeavor.
The ‘Fields’ are a microcosm of the game as a whole. A childish, Pixar-esque shell which, when uncovered, reveals a complex, involved gameplay experience underneath.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits invites you to be a kid, but treats you like an adult. This is something very few games manage — or even attempt — and it’s what makes Kena so unique, memorable and special.
--
Kena crushes its tone and aesthetic on all fronts to create something that’s desirable and attainable to a group outside of hardcore gamers.
Kena’s visuals are youthful and welcoming by using cartoonish and fairytale-esque art design. The game’s companions do the same — the Rot are your constant brigade of adorable little plush-like, Pikimin-esque comrades who hop as you walk, munch on berries, clumsily trip over each other, and squeak in pitches that can only described as ‘cute.’ You can even give them little hats to wear. They’re pets and it’s all so mired in youthful innocence that I cringe even typing it.
From a distance, Kena appears childish and immature based on its outward appearance. That is, until you peel back its outer layer.
--
The game looks like something your five-year-old might enjoying toying with on your iPad, “you-got-games-on-yo-phone?” style. But there are four elements in its building blocks that make it a game not optimized for your five-year-old on their own;
  1. Narrative
  2. Puzzles
  3. Platforming
  4. Combat
Narrative
As far as the game’s story is concerned, it may begin bright and innocent enough, but it deals not-abstractly with death and loss.
Consider that all three boys you meet in the early game — Taro, Benni and Saiya are actually dead, I-see-dead-people style. Consider also that Kena’s entire journey revolves around the loss of her own father and her desire to reconnect with him.
Additionally, it is Toshi’s selfishness and his desire to be the hero that actually ends up bringing death and destruction to his village when he jumps the gun and kills and the mountain spirit in cold blood.
Merciless affronts on nature and an up-front dealing with death and grief are not exactly for the young of age, despite their youthful packaging.
Puzzles
It would be a waste of word count to explain in detail the steps necessary to complete certain puzzles in Kena just as a set of examples to prove the point.
If you’ve played or watched gameplay, you know the puzzles are surprisingly involved, consisting often of multiple steps to complete that build on each other and require the use of all of your abilities in tandem.
One of the bigger “ah-hah” moments I recall was when I realized I could order my Rot minions to move objects while Kena stood on top of said object in order to give me a leg up to jump to a previously unreachable ledge.
Platforming
Speaking of ledges, jumping to and from them is tight and precise in Kena.
Platforming challenges are often timed (your aura-bomb weapon only activates platforms for specifically-timed bursts). Combining their scheduled nature with the need to rotate them via precise archery, mid-air grappling segments and more makes for a movement experience that is involved enough to demand the player’s full attention for every tick of the clock.
Kena and her world’s gravity also have a decided, predictable weight to them that’s not exactly forgiving, meaning the act of jumping to and fro is exact while also requiring exactness.
Combat
Fighting the enemies of Kena is similarly involved.
The cadence with which the game throws opponents your way combined with the complexities of dealing meaningful damage to said opponents creates a combat scenario which demands the player fluidly wield and swap between both melee and ranged options while carefully managing space on the battlefield.
Kamikaze-style enemies often rush Kena in carefully-spaced and well-timed waves, while enemies with shields and shells hide their weak points from visibility. Enemies like this require certain sequences to beat — be it a well-placed bomb and arrow combo, a parry, or a maneuvering to an enemy’s backside.
Boss encounters lean into these mechanics but also present new wrinkles — The Hunter fight asks the player to rethink their tactics and find a way to deal with an airborne opponent who is apt at dodging bombs and arrows, for example.
The final few bosses ask you to take everything you’ve learned throughout your journey and apply it all at once, and if you don’t… it’s defeat for Kena.
--
The above sounds like I’m describing a souls-like with platforming elements as the ‘fresh take’ in addition to the enrapturing combat.
Games that provide this much of a challenging, involved experience are typically darker in tone — be it music, environment, or what-have-you. I don’t think too many people would call Kena ‘hard,’ but these are the same people who died 10+ times to The Hunter or Corrupted Toshi.
If this game had a darker, moodier skin, would more people describe it as hard or not for the faint of heart?
In this way, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
It is accessible to new players and younger gamers due to its pleasing and friendly atmosphere. But by its conclusion, it is likely to season them into better gamers. If a newbie gamer picks up Kena, they’re in for a surprise and (hopefully) delight when they find something deeper than that which they first expected.
On the other hand, Kena is a worthwhile experience for veteran gamers if they drop their toxic masculinity and play a goofy kids game with a female protagonist. This is a game that will undoubtedly earn their respect by requiring their attention, precision and commitment throughout its experience. Like the newbie gamers, gaming veterans are in for a surprise and (certainly) delight when they find something deeper than that which they first expected.
--
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a good experience for everyone. By balancing being adorable with being difficult, it earns the respect and appreciation of everyone who plays it. Its accessibility makes it easy to recommend to anyone and the game thus earns itself a bigger audience as a result.
Its narrative and gameplay might not separate themselves in terms of newness from a saturated market, but the surprise and delight the game provides delivers an experience to its players that isn’t typical of the space.
By striking the balance between wolf and sheep, Kena elevates its quality to something beyond just the content within.
--
and yet
I can’t help but think, as I summarize this article, that if a game is for everyone, doesn’t that, on some level, mean it is also for no one?
I mean, when you look at the game’s narrative or gameplay, it’s not exactly reinventing the wheel here. In fact, Kena does just about nothing new. It spits out the same exact version of a game we’ve been playing for decades in the form of Tomb Raider or Uncharted or The Legend of Zelda or God of War.
Critically speaking, both the gameplay and narrative are pretty damn milquetoast.
You’re in a world infected by some arbitrary Darkness and since you’re Special and The Chosen One™ it’s your job to go around cleansing the world of evil using a combination of environmental platforming, lever and pressure plate puzzle-solving and lock-on-based, sword-swinging driven combat.
It wouldn’t be difficult to make the argument that Kena is bland.
But the discourse around the game just isn’t about that.
The game’s scored an 81 on Metacritic and has a 92% positive review rating on Steam at time of writing. It recouped its development costs in just one month, meaning every sale since then is hitting the bottom line.
People like this game.
Quick aside from me here on something that made me smile — when double-checking the score on Steam for the above info, I found these as the first two reviews at the very top of the queue: “yo wtf. bought this game to chill, why does it feels like im playing souls-like difficulty ass game HAHAHAH.” “Don’t be fooled by the graphics. This game can be a challenge at times, but it is worth the experience.”
So maybe being an experience for everyone really was the kicker?
Or, maybe, it was something else.
In fact, yeah, I can confidently say it was. It’s a game reviewer’s buzzword, but it’s oh-so apt here: polish.
--
The entire experience of playing Kena is smooth. There are no framerate drops, no bugs, no broken quests or puzzles, no desynced dialogue and facial animations. Not a single hiccup to speak of.
The game features exacting archery, precise platforming, telegraphed and accurate hitboxes, as well as an unimpeding camera, responsive and weighty combat and legible visual design that accurately communicates with the player.
You can move through Kena virtually unobstructed (until you come across a puzzle you can’t solve, but that’s your problem, not the game’s). Everything is built carefully and gels together in a cohesion that works so fluidly that playing Kena is simply frictionless.
The game’s developers — Ember Lab — nailed the fundamentals, paid attention to detail and play-tested perfectly. Their effort to go above and beyond saved this game from sinking into the obscurity of being completely and utterly Mid.
--
It’s frictionlessness that elevates Kena beyond itself. It makes the game greater than the sum of its parts. It makes Kena a complete, finished and polished experience.
Kena presents itself like it’s Disney Pixar’s latest goofy-ass, lame-ass, sub-par video game, but lying underneath the childish aesthetic is a challenging and engaging experience that’s not only a boon for all audiences of gamers, but a worthwhile one thanks to its extreme polish and dedication.
You should play it.

Turkish Aircrafts Made in 20th Century Nu.D-36 & Nu.D-38 Istanbul Turkey (State Archives) 1930 11.02.1944
Nu.D-36 The Nuri Demirağ Nu.D-36 was a 1930s Turkish training and fighter aircraft. Two-seat training biplane built by the Nuri Demirağ Aircraft Works in Istanbul for the Turkish military.
Its factory is in Istanbul Barbaros pier. It was produced by Nuri Demirağ and is the second indigenous Turkish warplane. It was produced in 1936. It was mostly used as a training aircraft at the Sky School. The next aircraft model of the N.U.D Factory was the passenger plane Nud-38, which would be produced in 1938. This plane is N.U.D. He retired from the air force when the Aircraft Factory was closed. The year it was out of service was 1942. N.U.D. He starts receiving orders from Europe. However, the fact that such a success was achieved by the private sector in Turkey disturbed some circles and the government banned the sale of arms abroad. Orders are canceled one by one. Nuri Demirağ asks for help from the President of that period, İsmet İnönü, to prevent the closure of this aircraft factory. He even places advertisements in newspapers with the title "Open letter to İsmet İnönü". However, these efforts do not bring results. In addition, the factory land was expropriated at no cost for the construction of today's Atatürk Airport. Even if an objection is made, the factory is closed by court decision and the Nud-36s become a museum artifact. Nud-36s, like other Turkish-made warplanes, were one of the best and highest quality aircraft of that time.
The Nu D.36 is an unequal-span single-bay staggered biplane with a fixed conventional landing gear with a tailskid. It was powered by a 150 hp (112 kW) Walter Gemma I nine-cylinder radial engine. It had two open tandem cockpits for the pilot and trainee.

The model was drawn by Turkish engineers, and all parts except the engines were made by Turkish technicians and workers. This aircraft, called Nu.D-38 and capable of a speed of 325 km per hour, had a capacity of 6 people and was equipped with two 160 horsepower engines with dual control and 2200 rpm. Its empty weight is 1200 kg and its full weight is 1900 kg. It has a range of 1000 km with a full tank of fuel and 325 km. It can stay in the air for 3.5 hours. Ceiling altitude is 5500 meters. The first tests were made by pilots Basri Alev and Mehmet Altunbay, and in the ongoing flights, Galip Demirağ also participated and went to Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as Ankara and Izmir, with this plane. Upon receiving positive results from the test flights, the "Nu.D-38" aircraft started its Istanbul-Ankara flight on 26 May 1944. There were two pilots on the plane, Tasvir-i Efkar newspaper owner Ziyat Ebuzziya, Vatan newspaper reporter Faruk Fenik and its owner Nuri Demirağ. The plane landed successfully at Ankara Airport. In order to be used in the tests of Nu.D-38 aircraft made in the workshop, Elmas Paşa Farm in Yeşilköy, currently used as Atatürk airport, was purchased and a flight field measuring (1000 x 1300) meters was built on a large land of 1559 decares. Nuri Demirağ Nuri Demirağ (1886 in Divriği – November 13, 1957, in Istanbul) was an early Turkish industrialist and politician, who was one of the first millionaires of the Turkish Republic.
His first enterprise was a cigarette paper factory which commenced production in 1922. Starting from the late 1920s, Demirağ began to invest his capital in the development of the Turkish railway network. Because of this investment, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave him the surname Demirağ (meaning "Iron web") when the Surname Law was put into effect in 1934. In 1936 he established an aircraft factory employing 500 people in Beşiktaş, Istanbul (later nationalized by the government and now occupied by the Istanbul Naval Museum). The production of the Nu D.36 two-seat trainer biplane, and Nu.D-38 twin-engine high-wing light transport plane took place in this factory. In 1945 he founded the first opposition party, which was named Milli Kalkınma Partisi (National Development Party), but his party failed to receive the required number of votes for entering the Turkish parliament in the 1946 and 1950 general elections, and was eventually dissolved in 1958, a year after his death. In 1954, he was elected as a member of parliament for Sivas on behalf of the Democratic Party, which won the general elections. Demirağ donated his airplanes to his flying school (Gök Okulu) in Yeşilköy, which he established for attracting the interest of young Turks in aviation. The land upon which the school was built was later nationalized by the Turkish government in order to enlarge the neighbouring Yeşilköy Airport (Atatürk International Airport) which was originally established as a military air base of the Ottoman Air Force in 1911. Demirağ died in 1957 from diabetes.
Aircraft Factory & Sky School Demirağ, the richest businessman of the period, started his attempt to establish an aircraft factory in 1936. In those years, the army's aircraft needs were met by donations collected from the public and wealthy businessmen. When he was asked to participate in a donation campaign to buy a plane, he said: “If you want something from me for this nation, you should ask for the best. Since a nation cannot live without an airplane, we should not expect this means of survival from the grace of others. He replied, "I am willing to build the factory of these planes." He planned to establish the factory in his hometown, Divriği. However, first of all, a trial workshop would be established in Istanbul. For this purpose, it made an agreement with a Czechoslovak company. A workshop building was built next to the Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Pier in Istanbul (the large yellow building to the left of the Maritime Museum). In order to make test flights, he bought the Elmas Pasha Farm in Yeşilköy and had a large flight field, hangars and aircraft repair workshop built on it. The flight area was the size of Amsterdam Airport, the largest airport in Europe. This area is today used as the International Istanbul Ataturk Airport. It was necessary to establish an aviation school to train Turkish pilots who would use the planes. Sky School was established on the land where the runway is located. The school trained 290 pilots until 1943. Before the Sky School in Yeşilköy, he opened a Sky Secondary School in Divriği. In this school, which was opened when there was no secondary school in any district of Sivas, all expenses of the students are covered; Students were brought to Istanbul and given flight lessons to encourage them to become interested in aviation. Selahattin Reşit Alan, one of Turkey's first aircraft engineers, drew the plans for the planes and gliders to be produced in the aircraft factory in Beşiktaş. The first single-engine aircraft was produced in 1936 and was called Nu.D-36. In 1938, a twin-engine six-seater passenger aircraft called Nu.D-38 was built. NuD-38 was transferred to World Aviation passenger aircraft class A in 1944. The first aircraft order was placed by Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) in 1938. Nuri Demirağ continued his work in the field of aviation by producing Turkey's first domestic parachute in 1939. In 1941, the first completely Turkish-made aircraft flew from Istanbul to Divriği. Galip Demirağ, Nuri Demirağ's son and one of the first graduates of the Sky School, was the pilot on this flight. After the 65 gliders ordered by THK were delivered in a short time; 24 training aircraft named NuD-36 were completed and test flights took place in Istanbul.
Aircraft Factory Closure After the 65 gliders ordered by the Turkish Aeronautical Association were delivered in a short time, Nu. 24 training aircraft of the D-36 model were completed and test flights were made in Istanbul. The authorities requested one more test flight for the delivery of the planes ordered by THK, which flew from Istanbul to Eskişehir after the test flights. During this flight, engineer Selahattin Reşit Alan, who also drew the plans of the planes, fell into the ditch opened at the edge of the runway to prevent the surrounding animals from entering the airport and died. Looking for an excuse such as "forgetting to put gasoline in the tank", THK canceled its order, citing this accident as the reason. Nuri Demirağ entered into a years-long legal battle with THK, which he took to court. Despite the reports of different experts that the planes were manufactured in accordance with the contract and were sufficient for flight, the court ruled in favor of THK. In addition, a law was passed prohibiting the sale of aircraft manufactured in Nuri Demirağ's factory abroad. The export of aircraft manufactured and linked to orders received from Spain, Iran and Iraq was prevented. Unable to receive orders from home and abroad, the factory closed in 1944. The aircraft factory in Beşiktaş and the Sky School in Yeşilköy were nationalized in 1944 for 15 liras per acre. After one-third of this amount was deducted as tax, the balance was deferred for 20 years on the grounds that the state did not have money and was not actually paid. Airplanes and machines manufactured on orders from THK and abroad were sold to scrap dealers. THK later imported Henrio aircraft, which were retired from use in France. The old model planes that arrived were soon scrapped. After losing the case, Nuri Demirağ's attempts to correct the mistake by writing letters to government members and president İsmet İnönü failed; The factory could not reopen.

2024.05.17 21:10 O0OO00O0OO0 A bunch of random Rock Band and Riffmaster questions from someone who hasn't played in forever

I played these games up until Guitar Hero 4 World Tour. Always wanted to get back into it but the controller situation was daunting. Anyway I got Rock Band 4 and managed to snag a Riffmaster a few weeks ago, I have a bunch of questions and figured I'd throw it in one thread (I play on Hard/Expert fwiw):
  1. I accidentally realized you can tap every solo section. Since when? Has that always been a thing?
  2. What's the point of the smaller frets near the bottom of the fret board? I get it's for solo'ing, but I can never move my hand down there fast enough without missing notes. Does it affect your score? Sometimes I just play full songs down there, though, it's a bit easier. Why don't most pros just play on those frets?
  3. How the hell do I alternate pick without messing up in this game? Any tips? I've been playing guitar for well over a decade but in this game alternate picking ruins me.
  4. Does the DLC ever go on sale? $1.99/song is still a steal compared to Fortnite, but I'm patient and love a deal.
  5. Any good DLC variety packs besides the full album ones? (Already downloaded all the free ones) I like a good variety of lead guitar songs with fun solo sections vs just simple power chord rhythms. My one complaint about this game is the library is clearly geared towards full band songs obviously. It makes sense. But coming from Guitar Hero 1-4, I feel like there's not a lot of great guitar-centered songs here. Like Buckethead, Dragonforce, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc.
  6. Is there any way to use a wireless mic with this game? Like if I plug one into a PS5 controller or the guitar itself? I wonder if this game could help me practice playing real guitar and singing at the same time lol.
  7. I can't turn on my PlayStation 5 with just the Riffmaster. I have to turn it on using my PS5 controller then I can control my PS5 with the Riffmaster. Is that normal or is there any way I can turn it on with the Riffmaster.
Thanks!

2024.05.17 14:04 smallcapsteve Hot Commodity Silver Sets Pace as Demand, Deficit Spur Rally

Gold’s record-setting rally may have captured the headlines this year, but it’s silver that’s running harder and faster as the less glamorous metal benefits from robust financial and industrial demand.
Silver has soared by almost a quarter in 2024, outpacing gold and making it one of the year’s best-performing major commodities. Yet in relative terms, silver is still cheap. It currently takes about 80 ounces of silver to buy 1 ounce of gold, compared with the 20-year average of 68.
The two metals move largely in tandem as both offer similar macro- and currency-hedging properties. With gold hitting a record on central-bank buying, retail interest in China, and a resurgence in bets lower US interest rates are on the way, silver’s gone along for the ride. Although there’s been scant interest from investors in silver-backed exchange-traded funds, physical sales have picked up, including at Singapore-based dealer Silver Bullion Pte.
“Even clients who are interested in buying gold are starting to say ‘well, maybe I’ll buy silver first, and wait for the ratio to sort of rebalance’,” said founder Gregor Gregersen. Between April 1 and 25, the outlet sold 74 ounces of physical silver for each ounce of gold, compared with an average of 44 in 2023.
Spot silver traded above $29 an ounce on Friday, heading for a weekly gain of almost 5%. The next significant test would be a challenge of $30, a level that it briefly surpassed in 2021. Should the metal top $30.1003 an ounce, that would lift prices to the highest in more than a decade.
The white metal has already been making headway against its dearer cousin, in relative terms. Back in January, the gold-silver ratio was above 90, the most stretched since September 2022. Citigroup Inc. reckons that if the Federal Reserve proceeds with interest-rate cuts and economic growth stays strong in the second half, the ratio could move to around 70, although it cautioned that a slowdown would push it the other way, according to a note.
Silver has a dual character, valued both for its uses as a financial asset and an industrial input, including clean-energy technologies. The metal is a key ingredient in solar panels, and with robust growth in that industry, usage of the metal is expected to reach a record this year, according to the Silver Institute. Against that backdrop, the market is headed for a fourth year in deficit, with this year’s shortage seen as the second biggest on record.
That’s led industrial users - which typically rely on miners for supply - to seek ounces by draining the world’s major inventories, according to Silver Bullion’s Gregersen. Stockpiles tracked by the London Bullion Market Association fell to the second-lowest level on record in April, while the volumes at exchanges in New York and Shanghai are near seasonal lows.
Over the next two years, the LBMA stockpiles may be depleted given the current pace of demand, according to TD Securities. The headline figure overstates the available volume of metal given that it includes exchange-traded fund holdings, Daniel Ghali, a commodity strategist, said in an April note.
“We are slowly going to see supplies tightening because industrial demand is set to go higher,” Gregersen said. “If investors are also starting to buy, then I think in two or three months’ time, my biggest problem might end up being ‘Where do I find supply?’ rather than ‘How do I sell the silver?’”

Has anyone else had an experience with tandem where a very charming sales person tells you your coinsurance obligation when ordering your pump only for you to get an EOB and SUBSTANTIALLY higher bill a few months later?
There was no indication that the coinsurance amount needed to be checked or might change. It was a straight statement of what my coinsurance would be.

Hey hey! Here are some fun things that are happening around town this week:

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

Saturday

Sunday

Thanks so much for reading!

You can get this entire post emailed to you each week in my newsletter.

But hold on, aren’t there other newsletters in San Jose???

Yep! And those are all super groovy! My newsletter is primarily a place for me to compile a curated list of things happening all over town, not just in the downtown spaces. There are small, DIY shows almost every day, and they generally don’t have a budget or the know how to promote themselves on platforms where you’re going to see. I’m pretty closely connected with a lot of the folks who organize these events (and have even helped organize many myself!) I occasionally include interviews with locals, newsy bits, and other things as they pop into my brain. Either way, I hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope it helped you find something to do this week. 🙂

2024.05.15 18:05 PikachuPrincessNY User feedback for Medtronic Simplera CGM

Hello Fellow Diabetics,
I am in the US and use the Medtronic 770G insulin pump with the free style Libre 3. It’s time for me to get a new pump, as my warranty period has ended. I’m struggling with what pump I should choose, between the Medtronic 780G and Tandem T-slim. My nurse educator and endocrinologist are pushing for me to get the T-slim, but I’m struggling to let my Medtronic pump go. On top of having a stockpile of supplies, which could get me through any period of lapse in insurance coverage, I know Medtronic has amazing customer service and any issue I have will be resolved promptly and effectively. I’m not convinced Tandem can or will provide this level of customer service as I’ve corresponded with the sales rep and he stated they don’t provide any loaners or trial devices, which is really turning me off. In addition, I likely will not be able to return the T-slim if I don’t like it, so I will be stuck with it for 4 years. Charging the device doesn’t seem like something I can stay on top of. Even still, the lack of interoperability between Medtronic’s pumps and all other CGMs on the market is wearing on me. I’ve used the previous guardian sensors (3 and previous, not guardian 4), and they’re the worst CGM product on the (US) market.
Because of the reasons stated, I’m leaning towards getting the 780G and holding out for Medtronic’s Simplera FDA approval so I can finally start using a closed loop therapy system. My nurse educator states she believes the Tandem algorithm is superior to Medtronic’s (from a user standpoint), but admittedly, she’s only used Tandem’s (she’s also T1D.) I’m skeptical of this based on what I have read, but I also know that the algorithm previous to the 780G/guardian 4 was inferior to Tandems.
Is there anyone that is using the Simplera CGM and can provide your feedback? Does Medtronic’s newest sensor provide a positive user experience? Is the Simplera experience similar to that of the Libre 3 and dexcom G6/7? Are there excessive alarms with the Simplera like there were with the guardian 3? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!
I would also like to hear from Tandem users and your experience with the company. I know Medtronic is always there for me 24/7 and will solve my problem; whether that be troubleshooting at 3AM or sending me an out of warranty loaner device at no cost. Will Tandem do the same for me?

How to Choose Bathtub Manufacturers?

When selecting bathtub manufacturers, it’s essential to approach the decision-making process with a comprehensive perspective. Here are some refined considerations to guide your selection:
  1. Quality and Brand Integrity: Opt for manufacturers renowned for their superior bathtub quality. Delve into their historical performance, peruse customer testimonials, and ascertain any recognitions, certifications, or accolades underscoring their quality adherence.
  2. Material Diversity and Design Variety: Seek manufacturers who present a broad spectrum of material choices and design variations to align with your aesthetic desires and functional prerequisites. Examine offerings ranging from acrylic to cast iron, composite, and steel enamel, ensuring they can cater to your specific design preferences.
  3. Customization Capabilities: Should your project necessitate bespoke dimensions, contours, or finishes, confirm the manufacturer’s adaptability to customization. It’s imperative to collaborate with a manufacturer receptive to your distinct design specifications.
  4. Operational Efficiency: Scrutinize the manufacturer’s production prowess and delivery schedules. Ascertain their capacity to manage your order magnitude and their commitment to punctual deliveries, pivotal to maintaining project timelines.
  5. Product Warranty and Post-Sale Assistance: Investigate whether the manufacturer extends product guarantees and the nature of their post-sale services. A commendable manufacturer remains unwavering in their product support, ensuring client satisfaction post-purchase.

It’s salient to remember that the most economical choice might not equate to the most durable or qualitative. Strive for an equilibrium between expense and inherent worth.

2024.05.13 09:55 subodhan-capacitors The Significance of APFC Panels in Capacitor Banks

In the ever-churning gears of industry, maintaining a smooth and efficient flow of electricity is paramount. One crucial component that often goes unnoticed but plays a vital role is the Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) panel. Working in tandem with capacitor banks, APFC panels ensure optimal power utilization and cost savings, making them a significant element in any electrical system.
Understanding Power Factor and Reactive Power:
Before delving into APFC panels, let's establish the foundation. Electrical power is measured in two ways: real power (kW), which performs useful work, and apparent power (kVA), the total power drawn from the source. The difference between these two values is reactive power (kVAR), which doesn't directly contribute to work but is necessary for the proper functioning of certain equipment.
However, excessive reactive power can lead to a low power factor, a crucial metric representing the efficiency of your electrical system. A low power factor translates to higher energy bills, increased strain on transformers, and potential voltage instability.
Capacitors: The Power Factor Warriors
Capacitors come to the rescue in this scenario. These passive electrical components store and release electrical energy, acting oppositely to inductors (common culprits for high reactive power). By strategically placing capacitor banks within an electrical system, we can counteract the lagging effect of inductors, improving the power factor and optimizing energy usage.
The Brains Behind the Brawn: The Role of APFC Panels
Here's where APFC panels enter the scene. These intelligent control systems act as the brain behind the brawn of capacitor banks. They continuously monitor the power factor in real-time using sophisticated algorithms. When the power factor dips below a desired threshold, the APFC panel automatically switches on the necessary capacitors in the bank, injecting reactive power to counteract the lagging effect and improve the power factor.
Benefits of Utilizing APFC Panels with Capacitor Banks:

2024.05.11 19:11 Badboyardie How Apple’s IPad sales have been going over the years. $AAPL

Who doesn’t love a slightly faster iPad?
This week, Apple released its new set of iPads.
The spotlight focused on the new iPad Pro, the company’s more expensive tablet.
Powered by a new tandem OLED display and the latest M4 chip, the company boasted it as the thinnest Apple product ever.
The 13 inch 256GB model comes in at a whopping $1,299.
Zooming out, Apple’s iPad segment has seen little to no growth in revenue since 2014, and the last quarter saw a 17% dip YoY.
That being said, in latest earnings call, CFO Luca Maestri said they are expecting a double-digit YoY increase in iPad sales in the current quarter.
It’ll be interesting to see how this release, which CEO Tim Cook dubbed “the biggest day for iPad since its introduction,” will pan out over the next few quarters.
Is Apple losing its innovation edge?

2024.05.11 15:05 adamsdp Folding vs conventional tandem - ride experience?

I am looking for a tandem that I can transport easier than our Electra and thinking of a Bike Friday tandem. The Bike Friday tandem will fit in my minivan going up the middle without removing wheels and can be hung from a standard rack without taking off wheels if I change vehicles to something smaller. The other option I am considering is a more conventional tandem which would require removing the front wheel for getting in the van or hanging from a rack. I am trying to make the transport as easy as possible as I know from my history that if there is a too much effort involved, I will default to the easier option such as riding in the neighborhood. I would be buying the Bike Friday without benefit of riding it prior to purchase and mainly am looking for feedback on how the ride experience will be compared to one with 26" wheels. I will be riding with my adult autistic on in the stoker position who does well on the Electra. We will be riding on bike trails that are paved or crushed limestone and flat.
I found a local bike store that has a folding bike and took it for a ride and it was very responsive (twitchy?) compared to the Electra. I am thinking that a tandem with it's longer wheel base will in between the Electra and the single folding bike I tried. A few sales reps at local bike shops commented that they nobody buys a folding bike unless they have to, implying the ride experience is not very good. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

These are the Ford Corcel, Belina, Del Rey and Pampa. Four cars made in Brazil by Ford with a very rich and somewhat weird history that involves Brazil, the USA and France. Long post ahead.
THE BEGINNING: The Corcel is a medium-sized automobile produced by Ford in Brazil, from 1968 to 1986. Willys Overland do Brasil in a partnership with Renault were involved in a project for a new passenger car, a project that became known at the time as "Project M" which years later, in France became the Renault 12 and in Brazil gave rise to the Ford Corcel, due to the purchase of Willys Overland do Brasil by Ford in 1967, with this, all Willys do Brasil projects and vehicles are now controlled by Ford. "Project M" "Project M", now managed by Ford, is now called Ford Corcel and thanks to Ford, the vehicle project undergoes a series of improvements to adapt to the terrible driving conditions in Brazil.
MY SOURCE: https://youtube.com/@reliquiaautomotiva?si=YYP8QXAkG2-537Z0
THE ENGINES AND OTHER THINGS:
·1.3 RENAULT ENGINE (1968): Under the hood, the Corcel was equipped with a 1300 cc four-cylinder Renault engine. This engine developed 68 hp and 9.8 kg/m or 6.58 lb/ft of torque. This power, combined with the weight of 945 kg or 2083 pounds, allowed the car to go from 0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph in 23 seconds and reach a top speed of 129 km/h or 80.15 mph. One thing that was highly praised about the car was its consumption, averaging 10 km/l or 23.5 mpg in the city and 13.4 km/l or 31.5 mpg on the highway. The Ford Corcel had good safety by Brazilian standards at that time, the car had things like the split steering column, allowing it to deform and not hurt the driver too much in a crash, the hood opening forward, making that, even if the driver leaves it open, the force of the wind will not allow it to open and block the driver's view, the brakes, which were already efficient, could be improved with the optional disc brakes instead of drums, the Corcel also came with a sealed cooling circuit, being the first Brazilian car to feature this feature.
·IMPROVED 1.3 RENAULT ENGINE (1969 - 1971 CORCEL GT): Under the hood, the 1969 Corcel GT's engine was still the same 1.3 from Renault, but certain improvements to the package increased power to 80 hp and torque to 10 kg/m or 6.71 lb/ft. With this power, the Corcel GT did 0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph in 20 seconds and reached a top speed of 138 km/h or 85.7 mph.
·1.4 RENAULT GT-XP ENGINE (1972 CORCEL GT-XP): The engine, still of Renault origin, now has 1400 cc and has several improvements that made it develop 85 hp and 11.6 kg/m or 7.79 lb/ft of torque. This made the Corcel GT-XP go from 0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph in 16.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 144 km/h or 89.4 mph.
·1.4 RENAULT ENGINE (1973 CORCEL): Another new feature was the 1.4 engine with 75 hp and 11.6 kg/m or 7.79 lb/ft, which became standard for all versions.
·MODIFIED 1.4 RENAULT ENGINE (1978 CORCEL II): The Corcel II was equipped with the same 1.4 Renault engine as the first generation Corcel, but with power reduced to 72 hp. With these modifications, the new Corcel II accelerated from 0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph in 17.2 seconds and reached a top speed of 150 km/h or 93.2 mph. The Corcel II averaged 8.5 km/l or 19.9 mpg in the city and up to 13 km/l or 30.5 mpg on the highway.
·1.6 ENGINE AND 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION (CORCEL II GT 1979): The 1.6 engine and 5-speed manual transmission become standard in this version. This engine developed 90 hp and 13 kg/m or 8.73 lb/ft of torque. This engine combined with the new 5-speed gearbox made the Corcel II GT accelerate from 0 - 100 km/s or 0 - 62 mph in 15.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 151 km/h or 93.8 mph.
DESIGN / FACELIFTS / NEW GENERATIONS;
·FIRST DESIGN (1968): The Ford Corcel stood out on its debut for presenting a beautiful appearance, made up of straight lines, with emphasis on its front, which was marked by creases on the hood and by the chrome grille with horizontal friezes, highlighting the raised central part so that could follow the creases of the hood, the circular headlights were accompanied by the driving lights located at the bottom of the grille. Below the assembly was the chrome bumper with the space for the license plate in the center. On its side, the look is marked by the charm of the four-door sedan body and the crease that runs along the entire side of the car, the 13-inch wheels were accompanied by chrome hubcaps. At the rear, the highlight is the rectangular-shaped taillights and the chrome bumper. Another highly praised detail of its design was the large glass area, which favored visibility in all directions.
·FIRST FACELIFT (1971): In 1971, the Corcel received its first restyling, with a new grille with horizontal and vertical friezes and a new emblem in the center, the driving lights are now located below the bumper, and at the rear the only new feature is the four square-shaped taillights, two on each side.
SECOND FACELIFT (1973): In 1973, the Corcel underwent a new facelift, this time much deeper and concentrated mainly on the front of the car, it gained a new hood, with a more aerodynamic design, in addition to a new grille with vertical friezes, a new emblem in the center and new headlight frames, the license plate left the bumper and began to be positioned below it, while the driving lights gained a new design, at the rear the lanterns gained a new design, having a rectangular shape and having reverse lights integrated with them. Inside the car, the only new feature is the dashboard which, regardless of the version, was only offered in a matte black colour.
·THIRD FACELIFT (1975): For the year 1975, the Corcel received a new facelift, with a lower hood that had the logo at the center and the Ford name on the right, a new grille, now made of plastic with horizontal stripes, new hubcaps, split tail lights and an gauge cluster with square dials.
·THE NEW GENERATION FORD CORCEL II (1977): The new second generation Corcel arrived with a beautiful look that followed the trend of the time, made up of straight lines and a two-door body with a fastback style rear, in addition, it is also worth highlighting the new look of its front, made up of headlights rectangular and new driving lights located at the ends next to the headlights, in the center the new engine cooling grille was painted in black and had the Ford logo in the center, but the main highlight of this new grille came from the aerodynamic design. of its horizontal blades, which provided a more intense air flow even at lower speeds, while the bumper, depending on the version, could be painted black or chrome. This new generation lost the option of a four-door body due to the fact that at that time, Brazilians only preferred cars with two doors, but to facilitate access when getting in or out of the vehicle, the most efficient solution was to adopt huge doors, which helped even the rear seat occupants. The main highlight at the rear of this sedan is the smooth fit of the C column, which went all the way to the trunk lid, while the license plate came out of the bumper and is positioned between the rear lights, which have a cleaner, more rectangular design. Inside, the new Corcel was more luxurious and sophisticated, featuring a fully carpeted interior and reclining front seats. The new panel was marked by a beautiful look that followed the trend of the time. Made entirely of plastic and with details such as a radio in the center and two rectangular ventilation outlets at the ends. The instrument panel had information in three circular markers, the first with a speedometer, the second, in the center, with an analog clock and the third with a fuel level marker and warning lights.
·1979 TWEAKS: In 1979 the car was slightly modified, gaining new transparent front lights and new rear lights with a beaded design in addition to a new four-spoke steering wheel for the LDO version. In addition to new options such as 5-speed gearbox, headlight washers and a new 1.6 engine.
·1980 TWEAKS: In 1980, the Ford Corcel II received new bumpers with plastic tips, a coolant temperature marker and options such as radial tires, three-point seat belts and a smoked sunroof, while the GT version gets a red trim next to the black paintwork.
1982: In 1982, the Corcel II line received improvements to the gearbox and suspension, in addition to a new central console with digital clock and air conditioning, which was only offered as an option.
1984: In 1984 the Ford Corcel II received new headrests and a new two-spoke steering wheel.
VARIANTS;
·CORCEL TWO DOOR COUPE (1969): The Corcel began to be a great success, and because of this Ford decided to expand the options in 1969, and the first of them was the two-door coupé version, standing out for its sportier look, thanks to the look of the rear side with lines reminiscent of muscle cars and the rear part of the roof that had a smooth slope to the height of the trunk. Another reason why this version was highly acclaimed was the fact that at that time Brazilians had a great preference for cars with just two doors.
TRIM LEVELS;
·CORCEL STANDARD: Initially the Ford Corcel was only available in the most basic version, called Standard. It had a simple but well-finished interior, with emphasis on the internal space, enough to seat 5 people in relative comfort, thanks to the one-piece seats and good wheelbase. The dashboard also had a simple design, with a glove box, ashtray and radio. The gauge cluster only had the essentials for the time, that is: fuel level gauge, speedometer, engine temperature gauge and warning lights. The huge steering wheel has two spokes, and the transmission was a four-speed manual with a lever on the floor.
·CORCEL LUXO (1969): In 1969 the luxury version of the Corcel was released. It had a more sophisticated finish, with details such as trims, various chrome parts, new interior linings, individual front seats with reclining backrests and a panel with new details such as a padded upper part and applications that imitate rosewood.
·CORCEL GT (1969): Launched in 1969 and aimed at a younger audience, the Corcel GT was only available in a two-door coupe version. It had details such as a vinyl roof with the GT logo on the C-pillar, stripes on the sides, black paint on the hood and rear, fog lights, and claws with a rubberized finish on the bumpers. Inside, the GT version featured a new three-spoke sports steering wheel, forced ventilation with two speeds and a complete gauge cluster with: speedometer, rev counter, oil level gauge, fuel level gauge, engine temperature gauge and a voltmeter for the battery.
·CORCEL GT (1971 FACELIFT): The GT version also received a facelift to accompany the others, with high beam headlights embedded in the grille, the grille was even painted in black and had the GT emblem in the center, the hood was also painted matte black and had a fake air vent in the center.
·CORCEL GT-XP (1972): In 1972, the Corcel GT gained a new name and more improvements, such as new wheels with a sporty design, new side stripes, while the markers, previously located in the central part of the panel, were now grouped together on the new central console.
·CORCEL GT-XP (1973): The Corcel GT-XP brought new visual features such as new rectangular headlights integrated into the grille, new side stripes, and two stripes on the hood, similar to those of the Ford Mustang.
·CORCEL LDO (1975): In 1975 was the even more luxurious version called LDO and stood out for presenting a more sophisticated finish, with a vinyl roof, chrome trim on the wheel arches, painted filets on the sides and the same sports wheels as the GT-XP version but without the black paintwork. Inside, it gained new interior linings, dashboard and seats in brown and beige and an exclusive steering wheel.
·CORCEL GT-XP (1975): The Corcel GT-XP only received aesthetic updates, such as new stripes on the sides and hood and new exterior mirrors.
·CORCEL II STANDARD (1978): This version of the Corcel II came without side moldings, had bumpers painted black and came with wheels that had a closed central core.
·CORCEL II L (1978): The intermediate version featured moldings in the middle of the side, chrome bumpers, wheels with a red central core or a crown design in the center.
·CORCEL II LDO (1978): The luxurious LDO version was equipped with chrome bumpers that had rubberized details, moldings at the bottom of the side and new wheels also with a red central core and a silver crown design in the center. The LDO version brought the charm of a monochromatic leather interior with applications that imitated rosewood.
·CORCEL II GT (1978): The new Corcel II GT had a look marked by black paint on the upper part of the body up to the C column, which was surrounded by fillets in yellow and red, black wheels with chrome over rims and high-flying headlights located below the bumper. Inside, the new features are the new three-spoke sports steering wheel, the rev counter on the instrument panel, and the new instrumentation on the central console, which included the oil level marker and the battery voltmeter. The engine was not changed, continuing with the same 72 hp as the other versions.
·CORCEL II GT (1979): This year the GT version undergoes improvements, such as new black stripes located on the lower part of the body, stiffer suspension and black bumpers.
·CORCEL II HOBBY (1980): It was in 1980 that the new version, called Corcel II Hobby, was launched. Aimed at a younger audience, the Hobby version stood out for its cooler look, marked by the bodywork without chrome details and the black wheels with chrome rims. Inside, this version featured red and black trim, the sports steering wheel of the GT version and an instrument panel with a silver finish.
·CORCEL II OS CAMPEÕES SPECIAL SERIES (1982): This special series featured details such as black paint with gold details, gold wheels, fog lights, black leather and black velvet interior, instrument panel with rev counter, digital clock on the center console, five-speed gearbox and options such as a sunroof, radio cassette player and air conditioning.
THE FORD DEL REY: The Del Rey was a Ford luxury sedan launched in the early 1980s and discontinued ten years later, having been replaced by the Versailles. It is a medium sedan, with three well-defined volumes, a choice of two or four doors and robust engines. The model was derived from the Corcel and in its line there was also the station wagon version, called Del Rey Scala and the Pampa pickup truck.
·BEFORE LAUNCH: Ford had a big problem to face in the late 1970s. With the new decade, Ford began to remodel its cars with modern designs coming from North America so as not to lose sales to more modern models. As the market was in crisis, it was not possible to invest well in a new model, an option taken in the 1970s when they brought the Ford Maverick to the American market, an option revealed to be wrong later, as the initial project was to bring the Ford Taunus. The solution was to call for the creation of a new model, but with an existing platform on the national market. The options were to create a car based on the four-door Maverick, increasing its rear space, which was the model's biggest problem, or to create a product based on the Corcel II platform, launched two years earlier.
In a clinic, two models were displayed to test consumer opinion, and the one chosen was the one that resembled the final design of the Ford Del Rey. A medium sedan, with three well-defined volumes, the option of two or four doors and an economical engine. , being the alternative to avoid higher costs. The model was based on the Ford Granada MKII models, a large model from English Ford manufactured at the same time, and the Ford Taunus, also from European Ford, but from Germany. They were very similar both front and rear, as well as the side, despite the Brazilian model being smaller.
·FIRST GENERATION (1981 - 1984): The Ford Del Rey debuted in mid-1981 and could be found in Gold and basic versions (popularly called "Silver"). It was a car with a refined finish, reminiscent of its older brother, the Ford Corcel under construction, but at the same time reminiscent of the good old Galaxie/Landau. The most complete version came as standard with items that were not common even in cars of its category, such as light alloy wheels, electric windows, electric door locks, rear view mirrors with internal control, velvet seats, fog lights, digital clock located on the central rear view mirror, among other things. The model received an automatic transmission as an option in 1983, and in 1984 it received the CHT engine, a revision of the old 1.6 engine of Renault origin that equipped the Corcel GT, and which was revised to equip the recently arrived Ford Escort. The engine did a lot of good for the model which, despite being economical, suffered during accelerations and restarts, and was the target of criticism from its owners, always losing in comparisons with the main competitors of its time, such as Chevrolet Opala, Volkswagen Santana and after 1985 , the Chevrolet Monza.
SECOND GENERATION (1985 - 1991): In 1985 Ford made some changes to the model, which would remain practically intact until the end of its life in mid-1991. The already tired sedan gained a new front, similar to that of the Ford Corcel, with a “grille” aerodynamics and a spoiler that served as a frame for the fog lights. The model began to have other names. The Silver and Gold were discontinued and the GL entered as a basic version, GLX as an intermediate and the Ghia as a top-of-the-line version. It lost the refinement of alloy wheels, but gained new items. The rim increased to 14 inches and was the first non-sports car in Brazil to use a 60 profile. The 1987 model featured electric rear-view mirrors. With the Ford Corcel leaving the line the previous year, Ford created the L version, with a more stripped-down finish, to fill the gap between the Escort and the Del Rey. In 1988 the model had no relevant changes.
With the merger of Volkswagen and Ford in 1987, Autolatina was created, a large company that came to dominate the market and almost cannibalized Ford of Brazil. The Del Rey was one of the few models that profited from this merger, as it gained the more modern AP 1.8 engine (which was equipped with the Volkswagen Santana). With a small performance gain, its top speed rose from 146 km/h to around 156 km/h, and its acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h went from 16.50 in the 1986 GLX version to around 13.88 seconds, due to the new gear reduction and small increase in power. The Del Rey received some mechanical changes, recalibrated springs at the rear to improve the “anti-dive” effect when accelerating and “anti-squat” when braking. The exterior mirror received a modified base in 1989. The last really notable difference between the models with the 1.6 and 1.8 engines was the consumption, which had increased slightly.
In 1991 the Del Rey was taken out of production. It is a model well remembered for the modernity it had in its time, as its bigger brother (Ford Landau) did not have many modern features (such as electric windows, electric locks and electric mirrors). Its replacement, the Ford Versailles, was not as successful due to its lack of charisma.
THE FORD BELINA: During the development of the M project (later named Corcel) in partnership with Renault, Willys-Overland do Brasil was studying the project of a station wagon/van to occupy the market niche left by the end of DKW-Vemag Vemaguet in 1967 At the same Volkswagen do Brasil was working on a similar project for a while, the Variant station wagon. After the purchase of Willys do Brasil by Ford, the M project continued to be developed. On August 26, 1968, the M project was presented at Clube Pinheiros in São Paulo during the Ford-Willys dealer convention. Named Corcel, the new vehicle was being launched on the market to compete with the VW Beetle. At the same event, Ford presented the prototype of a Corcel station wagon in September 1968. The first prototype of the Corcel station wagon was seen circulating around the factory in São Bernardo do Campo undergoing tests.
Ford even transported a prototype station wagon to its stand at the VI São Paulo Motor Show, with its management undecided about showing the model. In the end, the station wagon ended up not being shown. Instead of launching, Ford chose to carry out further tests of two models: two and four doors (never adopted for series production). The tests were carried out throughout 1969 on Estrada Velha de Santos.
The Ford Belina was launched on the market on March 3, 1970, approximately three months after the Volkswagen Variant.[6] After the launch of Variant and Belina, VW and Ford began an “advertising war” in the station wagon market, with each factory praising its product and criticizing its competitor. In the end, the German automaker prevailed with the argument of the simple and robust mechanics of the air engine (the same as the Volkswagen Beetle). Thus, the Variant's production was around six times greater than that of the Belina.
In one of the first tests carried out by the press, unusual wear was noticed on the Belina's front tires. An error was later discovered in the adjustment of the front suspension of the Corcel-Belina line, which forced Ford to call on all owners of Corcel-Belina line vehicles manufactured between 1969 and 1970 to come to Ford dealerships to have the suspension readjusted. Despite not requiring replacement of parts, this was considered the first recall in Brazil.
The bad reputation brought about by the problem affected Belina production, which went from 7831 (1970) to 5306 (1971) vehicles. The drop in production forced Ford to invest in the relaunch of the Corcel-Belina line in 1972. The main change for the Belina was the adoption of the 75 HP XP engine, replacing the original 68 HP. The production of mixed-use trucks (including station wagons) was encouraged by market acceptance. Between the first quarter of 1973 and 1975 there was a 26% growth in the production of mixed-use trucks (including station wagons) while car production in the country fell 3.9%.
In 1973 production reached almost thirteen thousand copies. The Belina went through a period of growth in production that did not change even with the launch of the Chevrolet Caravan on the market in 1975. Derived from the Opala, the Caravan station wagon began to compete with the Belina for the market. Thus, Ford adopted a second restyling of the Belina in 1975, with changes to the front and improvements in the design and the adoption of a gas shock absorber to support the trunk lid instead of the obsolete spring shock absorber it used. The arrival of the Caravan and the launch of the remodeled Belina put pressure on the Variant, which began to lose market share until it was discontinued in 1977. At the same time, the Belina project, derived from the Corcel, was feeling the weight of age (given that it was from the 1960) and needed replacement.
THE BELINA II: With the launch of the Chevrolet Chevette in Brazil (and the expectation of a future derivative station wagon launch), the announcement of FIAT's arrival in Brazil and the announcement of the launch of the Dodge 1800, Ford began studying changes to the Corcel line. Inherited from the acquisition of Willys-Overland do Brasil, the Corcel was a Renault project from the 1960s ready when it was taken over by Ford. At the end of 1973, the American multinational carried out the first restyling study of the Corcel. Belina, however, was not initially included because its competition was limited to the Variant. This later changed with the arrival of the Chevrolet Caravan and rumors of the production of a Dodge station wagon (which ended up not being released) and the Chevette station wagon. The redesigned Belina first appeared in print in October 1976.
In 1978, the Belina received a modern update, when it was renamed Belina II, incorporating the main changes of the Corcel II, with straight lines. The versions were the L, simpler, and luxurious LDO.
THE DEL REY SCALA: Derived from the Del Rey, the Scala was launched in 1983, being an evolution of the Belina. Available in a single version: Gold. With a superior finish, it introduced new equipment to the category: electric locks and windows, a ceiling console with a digital clock, reading lights and a panel that even had an oil pressure gauge. Air conditioning was optional. Initially, power steering was not offered, not even as an option. It was equipped with a 1.6 engine with 69 hp. In 1984 it received ventilated disc brakes at the front and its power increased slightly: 73 hp.
In 1985 it received a facelift, with a new front and interior changes. It was now offered in two versions: GLX and Ghia. In 1986 it received power steering and a CHT E-Max engine.
There was also a 4X4 version, launched in 1985 and discontinued in 1987, due to the high incidence of mechanical failures in the system.
In 1987, she was called Belina again. Its production lasted until 1991, when it was discontinued to make way for the Ford Royale. At that time, Belina's sales represented half of the Del Rey family.
FORD PAMPA: The Pampa was based on the second generation of the Corcel and was presented at the 1982 Motor Show, designed to compete with the Fiat Fiorino, Volkswagen Saveiro and Chevy 500.
In the 1984 model, the first changes occurred, receiving the CHT engine, more powerful and economical. The 1600 cm³ CHT engine had 75 HP on alcohol and 73 HP on gasoline, respectively allowing the Pampa to reach a maximum speed of 145 km/h and 140 km/h. The 4x4 model, launched in the same year together with the Belina 4x4, was equipped with a four-speed gearbox, a one-piece seat and also had a second fuel tank in the alcohol version, for an additional 40 liters. Its interior was much more basic than the pioneering 4x2 model.
In 1986, the basic, L and GL models came into existence, and in that same year the entire Pampa line received the front grille of the 4x4 version for the 1987 model. It was similar to the Del Rey, in addition to gaining the Ghia version with luxury items from the Del Rey Ghia model. These include a complete dashboard, windows and electric locks. Despite this, Pampa no longer has air conditioning, only offering hot air as an option.
The Pampa had always been the leader among light pickup trucks until then and continued in this situation until it was discontinued. In 1990 it received the VW AP-1800 engine, powering the L, GL and Ghia versions. The CHT 1.6 still remains in the L and GL 4x4 versions. The following year the S version arrives, much more sporty and complete, only coming with a 1800 cm³ engine and bringing standard items such as external hooks, protective rubbers for the edges of the bucket, day and night rear view mirror, optional power steering, individual adjustable seats , stylized wheels, personalized stripes on the sides, sliding rear window, front spoiler with built-in fog lights and other items found in the Ghia version, such as an electric trio.
In 1992 the Pampa received a new front grille, identical to that of the Del Rey, which production ended in 1991. Two years later it received an electronic carburetor (2E CE) for the 1800 cm³ engines. In 1995, the Ghia and Jeep GL 1.6 4x4 versions were discontinued, leaving only the L (1.6 and 1.8), GL (1.8) and S (1.8).
The Pampa ceased production in 1997, the model year in which the 1.8 engines were equipped with EEC-IV single-point electronic injection, becoming the best-selling automobile-derived pickup in the segment, exceeding 380,000 units sold. Even in the face of competitors with more modern designs such as the recently launched Corsa pick-up, the second generation of the Saveiro, the third generation of the Fiorino pick-up, and the first generation Hilux imported into Brazil, which was initially a small pick-up, and the Mazda B2200, the Pampa has always been a sales leader, extremely popular, robust and attracting a legion of fans across the country, it was succeeded by the Courier, which never had the same sales figures, and it is often possible to see more Pampas on the streets than Couriers .
TRIVIA;
·What is interesting is that although the Renault and Ford models had completely different designs, they shared the same platform, engines and wheels that had three holes and which became famous in Brazil for exactly this reason.
·The name Corcel, means Steed in Portuguese and was chosen as a homage to the Ford Mustang.
