TPMS Reset not working
My tpms light (red one on digital cluster) has popped up and it won't go away. My tires are filled accordingly to the doorframe for my wheel / tire setup. I reset using the turn signal stock, but it doesn't do anything. The little red box never pops up even after holding for 5+ seconds. I also reset it via k+dcan cable to obd2, while parked. It cleared, (the tmps logo went orange, and then immediately went red again.) I have been driving my car like normal, for more than 500 km's since the light came up so it's obviously not resetting on it's own. I don't have idrive either. Not sure what to do next. It's really frustrating and using bmw TIS doesn't help. I also can't use INPA or NCS since my laptop is running windows 11, not windows xp or Vista. (The only operating systems that inpa and ncs run on). Does anyone recommend carly? I used it to scan using my cable and it scanned well. Not sure about simply coding out the tpms. 100 bucks for a minimum 1 year subscription seems unfair too.

What A GPS Tracker For OBD2 Ports Looks Like

5 Characteristics Of OBD2 Port GPS Devices

  1. Plug-And-Play Design: OBD2 GPS trackers are designed to plug directly into a vehicle's OBD-II port, making installation quick, easy, and tool-free.
  2. Vehicle Diagnostics: These vehicle GPS tracking devices can access a variety of data, such as engine performance, fuel efficiency, and fault codes, offering valuable insights into a vehicle's condition.
  3. Real-time Tracking: OBD2 trackers typically provide real-time GPS location data, allowing for precise monitoring and tracking of the vehicle's movements.
  4. Compact And Discreet: Though not as small as wireless trackers, OBD2 GPS trackers are still relatively compact and unobtrusive, often going unnoticed when plugged into the OBD-II port.
  5. Driving Behavior Monitoring: Many OBD2 GPS trackers include features that monitor driving behaviors, such as speeding, harsh braking, and rapid acceleration, helping improve driver safety and vehicle maintenance.
The easiest GPS tracker to find on a vehicle, OBD2 tracking devices are small, black devices that plug directly into the OBD2 ports of cars. A GPS device that connects to the OBD2 port is live GPS vehicle tracking systems which mean someone is remotely tracking the vehicle. These devices are typically used to monitor fleet vehicles.

What A Hard-Wired GPS Car Tracker Looks Like

https://preview.redd.it/wmwlu960eg0d1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e1d466e1bda23e90b0db28602ea773b8508cb1d

5 Characteristics Of Hard-Wired GPS Trackers

  1. Connection To Vehicle Power: Hard-wired GPS trackers are connected directly to a vehicle's electrical system, ensuring continuous power and minimizing the need for battery replacement or recharging.
  2. Discreet Installation: These trackers are often installed out of sight, such as behind the dashboard or within the interior of the vehicle, making them difficult to detect.
  3. Data Transmission: Hard-wired GPS trackers typically provide real-time GPS location data, and some models may also transmit additional information, such as driving behaviors or vehicle diagnostics.
  4. Tamper-Resistant: Due to their direct connection to the vehicle's electrical system, hard-wired GPS trackers are more challenging to remove or disable than their wireless counterparts.
  5. Professional Installation: Wired GPS trackers often require professional installation to ensure proper connection to the vehicle's electrical system and optimal performance.
Hidden GPS trackers that are hardwired to a vehicle are the hardest to locate because they pull power from the car's 12-volt system and are commonly used for GPS fleet management purposes. This means the tracking device could be hidden behind the stereo, inside the dash, under the steering column, or in some other location a professional installer chose to mount the device according to the make and model of the car.

What A Wireless GPS Car Tracker Looks Like

https://preview.redd.it/7v2sykk2eg0d1.jpg?width=644&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36d3000ed23134bef9b5f2f17b2b7024d5ed2397

5 Characteristics Of Wireless GPS Tracking Devices

  1. Compact Design: Wireless GPS trackers are small and discreet, often resembling matchboxes or decks of cards, making them easy to hide within a vehicle's interior.
  2. Magnetic Casing: Many trackers feature magnetic casings, allowing them to slide under the vehicle and attach to the frame securely.
  3. Internal Antenna: These devices usually have an internal antenna engineered in the housing to receive GPS location data and transmit information.
  4. Rechargeable Battery: Hidden GPS trackers typically have rechargeable batteries, ensuring continuous tracking even when the vehicle is moved or parked.
  5. Multiple Functionalities: In addition to GPS tracking, some devices may also monitor driving behaviors or offer parental control features for added security.
Another type of tracker that can be difficult to locate on a car, wireless GPS trackers are portable, waterproof, and oftentimes equipped with an exterior magnetic mount. This means the wireless GPS tracking device can be placedinside or outside of a vehicle! Therefore, people would want to search under the car seats, inside the glovebox, and even underneath the automobile when looking for wireless realtime GPS trackers. Commonly used by private investigators and those concerned their spouse might be cheating, some of these vehicle trackers can not be found by a bug detector.

Is A GPS Tracking Device Installed On My Car Or Truck - Where Should I Start To Look?

Locating Hidden Trackers Ov Vehicles

Knowing what a car tracking device looks like is good, but if you believe a hidden GPS is on your car or truck then you will need to inspect the exterior of the automobile or seek professional help to locate the GPS black box. However, if you want to perform an inspection for a GPS tracking system here are the spots we recommend you check first:
  1. Around The Rear Bumpers
  2. OBD Ports
  3. Inside The Glove Box
  4. Front Bumper
  5. Near The Spare Tire
  6. Underneath The Car (Hidden GPS Tracking Device)
Doing a visual inspection is the most effective way to locate a tracking device placed on your car since bug sweepers and electronic sweepers cannot pick up the low-level radio signals from passive trackers.

Helpful Advice

Car tracking devices come in many shapes and sizes but the most important thing to remember is that they are designed to be covert in nature. Therefore, finding a car GPS tracker can be challenging, but hopefully, now you have a better idea of what active trackers look like when scanning the vehicle!

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does A Car GPS Tracker Look Like And Where Might It Be Hidden?

Car GPS trackers come in various shapes and sizes, making them hard to recognize. They can be hidden in your vehicle's interior or slide under the vehicle, attached to the frame. Check OBD ports, the electrical system, or even hidden within everyday items like bumper stickers or license plate frames. Curious about their appearance? GPS trackers often resemble small boxes with antennas or magnetic casings.

How Do Active GPS Trackers And Passive GPS Trackers Differ?

Active GPS trackers and passive GPS trackers serve different purposes. Active trackers provide real-time GPS location data, transmitting it to a monitoring system, while passive trackers store the data for later retrieval. Worried about tracking apps or cell phone tracking? Active GPS often involves these features for real-time monitoring, while passive trackers focus on driving behaviors and historical data. Over 95% of GPS devices used today to secretly track someone's car without them knowing are real time GPS trackers.

How Can I Protect Myself From Being Tracked?

To protect yourself, invest in GPS detectors or bug sweepers, which can help you locate hidden GPS trackers or hidden cameras. Counter surveillance tools can be purchased for less than $100 on Amazon. If you suspect your car is bugged, seek professional help from a private investigator or counter-surveillance expert. You can also boost your vehicle's security by installing a car alarm and being cautious with personal information. Be proactive and maintain your privacy!

Why Would Someone Use A GPS Tracking System On A Car?

There are various reasons someone might install a GPS tracking system on a car. Parental control and teen driving safety, fleet management, business security, and even tracking a stolen vehicle are common uses. However, not all tracking is malicious or invasive. It's essential to understand the different types of GPS tracking and their intended purposes.
Can A GPS Tracking Device Affect My Car's Electrical System?
Typically, a GPS tracking device shouldn't cause issues with your car's electrical system. However, improper installation or faulty devices could result in problems. If you suspect a hidden tracker on your car, get it professionally checked to ensure your vehicle's safety and proper functioning. After all, it's better to be safe than sorry!

2024.05.14 06:03 Astral_Drift 7.3L powerstroke help. Running rough, check engine light is on and I need it running in less than a week

So the other night I was driving around when my check engine light turned on and all of a sudden then engine cut and the battery light turned on. While rolling I shut the entire truck off and tried starting it again but all it did was crank and no fire. So we let it sit for a few minutes to check everything over. Battery terminals looked fine, no noticeable leaks, from what I can tell it doesn’t smell like there is diesel in the oil. After letting it sit, it fired back up but felt like it was struggling to start. It did a hard start and sounds like it’s not running on all cylinders. Can someone please help? I don’t have a lot of time to do a bunch of testing and whatnot on it. I did scan it with a wireless OBD2 scanner and did a buzz test on the injectors, it gave me code P1294. I know this code is injector high side open - bank 2, however looking into it further on a diesel forum, someone with similar issues tried replacing harnesses and it ended up being the CPS, however mine was replaced about 15k miles ago with a ford motorcraft CPS

2024.05.11 21:05 No-Introduction723 2006 Hummer H3 automatic trans slipping - Ideas?

As the title says I have an automatic H3. Last night I made a trip from SF to LA. Around halfway into the trip the trans slipped into 3rd and I was unable to get it to go back to 4th. (Tried putting it in neutral at highway speeds. Eventually I stopped to check underneath for major leaks/ let it cool.) Continued on with the same issue and around 70% into the trip the trans slipped into 2nd. I was still able to maintain 60mph at 5k rpm in the slow lane and finished the trip.
The car will still idle and shift into 2nd and 3rd from a stop, Around 50mph it slips back to 2nd from 3rd. It seems to still upshift at slow or stable speeds. Checked the fluid and its black and smells real bad :( There are no major visible leaks, no metal shavings, and the fluid was at the correct level.
Wondering where I should go from here. Do a fluid/filter replacement and hope for the best? Online sources seem to say once its slipping its already too late. But I have hope since at least it isn't stuck in neutral. Does the regular OBD2 scan the transmission or is there a different tool required to check trans codes?
Anyone with experience please let me know. 180k miles on the car, motor was rebuilt at 130k but I believe the trans is stock so maybe its hitting the end of its life anyway :( My methods are real enjoy the picture!

2024.05.10 06:55 zuis0804 2012 GMC Terrain Question

I bought my GMC terrain 2 years ago with 110k miles on it. Car is in fantastic condition, one owner and he kept it in the garage and regularly serviced. Car options at an affordable cost were slim during Covid and it was a miracle I stumbled upon this one after I totalled my car.
The only issue thus far has been that frequently has had “Gas Cap Loose” alert pop up since purchasing. It’s on there tight. I fiddle with it and it doesn’t come back on. It doesn’t come on right after I fill my car up but maybe 3-4th drive since getting gas. Last week I got the engine light on and I was wondering what the chances are it could be related to the faulty sensor of gas cap. I’m taking it in to get the engine code scanned tomorrow but I’m freaking out reading it could be catalytic converter for which I absolutely do not have the money to replace.
The only other problem that I didn’t realize was a problem, is it sometimes mildly vibrates when I reach higher speeds above 60mph. The car had a full checkup within 1 1/2 years and everything was good. I only noticed the shaking when someone mentioned it, I’m probably dumb but thought it’s because it’s older and obviously not gonna drive like a bmw/mercedes. I remember my dad’s old truck shaking like crazy taking us to school in the 90s.
I obviously know not to ignore the issue, but if anyone has any kind of idea of what kind of cost I’m looking at and how urgently it needs to be fixed, I would greatly appreciate it as I am extremely tight on money at the current moment and need to figure out if I’m going to have a 1500+ unexpected cost. My apologies for sounding naive, I know nothing about cars and understand my research is useless here as I need to have a mechanic taking a look. Very much appreciate any input.

2024.05.10 04:00 Eves_Automotive Up your game.

Most professional techs have access to good scan tools. You have to if you work on these 'computers on wheels'.
OBD2 is a God send but most of us, including myself, don't really use it to it's full potential.
Now I am far from an expert. Heck, I'm not that good. I do however try to use mode 6 and freeze frame.
Today a young man came in for a smog. O2 monitor was incomplete so I told him to drive it to clear it. Even showed the drive cycle. Comes back to have the check engine light on. Random misfire (p0300) current and permanent in generic obd2 mode.
I went to mode 6 to see if I could glean some info and sure enough I was able to find misfire data. Now I didn't bother trying to figure out what TIDs were nor CIDs. My scan tool was nice enough to give me some sort of verbage so I ran w/ it.
It showed cyl. 4 with history misfire of 68 and cyl. 2 of 23. I think 3 had 7? Went to mfg specific to look at misfire data and it didn't give history data. Kinda surprised. It did give me live data so I ran w/ that.
Was able to duplicate misfire by power braking it and as if by magic cyl 4 and 2 were major contributors.
In this case I was lucky and was able to duplicate the concern. Didn't even have to go to freeze frame data. If I couldn't duplicate the misfire mode 6 would've still pointed me to the offending cylinders even though it flagged for random misfire.
Get used to using mode 6 and freeze frame data! Even if you have no idea what you are looking at. Start looking at it nonetheless. It can help you tremendously, especially with intermittent problems. Take advantage of the wonderful tools that are available to us.

2024.05.08 21:55 Sunny_try01 No codes, monitors complete after only 30 miles/1-2cycles. Is it actually ready for smog or too soon?

My 2012 ford fusion *had* a permanent, pending, and stored EGR flow code P0400. Yesterday I had the EGR valve replaced and cleared out a tube that was clogged with carbon deposit. I also had new spark plugs installed and an oil change.
I got home yesterday evening and was surprised that the permanent EGR code was already gone (I thought it needed several cycles for the computer to clear it on its own?). Anyway, there was a new pending P0300 random misfire code, but I figured maybe it had something to do with the spark plugs being so recently changed(?), but it was only pending, so I thought I'd check again in the morning.
This morning I drove to work and scanned for codes again. The pending P0300 was gone, and the permanent P0400 had not come back. No codes, and all monitors show as complete, including evap. This is only 1 or 2 cycles and about 30 miles after the work was done.
I'm still surprised at how fast the permanent code was gone, wondering if it could have been erased by the mechanic's fancier obd2 tool or by disconnecting the battery for that long? Or did the car *actually* clear it on its own? Anyway, since all monitors are now complete, am I ready to take it for a California smog check or will they have a problem with the codes being reset so recently?
Or is it recommended to drive it some more because I also just got an oil change? (not sure if this is really a thing)

2024.05.07 08:10 Trevor2472 How OBD11 helped me save thousands.

Some story about the car and the issue I was having with it: Old car died, got a trade in for a new car.
New car is a 2019 VW Jetta SEL MK7 with the beats audio (premium audio system.) I was wondering why in fuck's name is this used car does not have any bass.
I tried using my OBD2 device to see if it reported a problem... IT DID NOT... (BEING FRUSTRATED) I find out that my old OBD2 device could not read VAG cars due to new coding standards with non VAG to VAG cars... I get this device from comparing it to VAGCOM VCDS which was a better fit for me from Amazon, took 1 day to get it.
I fired up the device, did the connection and got the pro plan for the device. I let it scan all the control units to see faults... I went into the audio system to see faults within it...
BOOM... it stated that there was an open circuit problem with my subwoofer. An open circuit after learning what it is is an electrical circuit that is not complete.
So... I opened the trunk, and discovered that the last owner or service technician who worked on the spare to get the tire filled up, FROGOT to plug back the cable before closing the trunk...
Turned on the car... BASS GALORE,... SUBWOOFER SECTION POPPED UP ALLOWING ME TO ADJUST MY SUB I even was successfully was able to change default profile in beats audio to fender audio preset to get lots more bass...
The car's audio feels a hell of a lot more premium now... Eventually I will be replacing the sub to something better because I am a basshead at heart... but for now... this will do!
THIS APP AND DEVICE saved me a trip to the mechanic and saved my money.... It even made me feel like I owned my car after having the right to repair my car.... even if the repair was to plug in the disconnected sub...
Cool app and device... 11/10 :D

[Fetishes] The one about the cop
Natalie was ready. She had a mischievous smile on her face, the flag in her hands, and that pleasant adrenaline rush that wouldn't go away until everything was over. Between the two colorful cars, with engines roaring loudly in threat and display, she couldn't tell which one attracted more attention. People around her shouted, threw money at each other, fired shots into the sky, and looked at her with desire. Of course, her leopard print bra made her tits as eye-catching as possible, and the black high-waisted skirt barely covered the curve of her buttocks. To top it all off, she was the one indicating when the race began, so the power associated with that was dazzling. She loved when people looked at her like that. As if there was anything she could do, and still carry on being called hot and leaving men hard wherever she went by. Even the competitors had their eyes on her for reasons beyond the wait for the flag to drop. One of them bit their lip and shook his head, trying to focus on his hands and not his lap. The other had long given up, and would only roar and step on it while looking at her with want. Natalie licked her lips, satisfied. "Look", she whispered to herself, "look as much as you can. You can't touch it anyway…" Part of the charm was in that, being unattainable. Which was very good when some of the more grotesque racers came at her wanting her as the night's trophy. Soon men would emerge from all sides to stop them, and she would come out unscathed. However… that's also why it had been so long since she had a good fuck. Her life was all about the underground races, so she had neither time nor disposition to get to know anyone far from there. And in that scenario, no one could take her to bed. Because of that, she tried to be content with the excitement that would always run through her body whenever she was about to start a race. She would cling to that adrenaline rush and enjoy every passing moment as if it was a slow and painful orgasm that could never hit its apex. And then, her own fingers had to take care of the rest, in the place's filthy bathroom, while everybody was hugging and punching, celebrating or sorrowing the night's results. Here we go again… Natalie bounced her hip side to side, and the crowd fell into silence. It was starting. She felt her panties start to weigh, her mouth start to dry, her breasts to heat up. She smiled at the attentive audience and raised her slender arm with the black and white flag. The night's racers took a deep breath, gripping the steering wheel tightly. She scanned each tense face within her reach, finding one she didn't recognize. He had blue eyes, a square jaw, unruly hair, and a body that set the imagination free. She smiled at him, receiving one in return, and just like that, she already knew who she would think about on her next visit to the bathroom. The discomfort between her thighs grew progressively. She rubbed them together and tested her knees, knowing she would have to squat before the enraged cars passed her by. The flag dropped at the same instant a siren was heard. Within seconds, the place was surrounded by patrol cars. Chaos ensued, people bumping into each other trying to get out of there, trying to leave without being detained. Nobody helped each other because everyone knew that the only way they could have been found was if someone from the inside had given away the scheme to the authorities. And anyone could be the culprit at this point. Natalie took advantage of her crouched position to survey the area and find some opening through which she could escape. Her heart was pounding loudly in her ears, and the usual adrenaline had been intensified, leaving her almost breathless. She couldn't see a way out unscathed; the place was truly surrounded, and people were being held tightly by police officers and thrown into the back seats of countless patrol cars. She decided to run, hoping her stature and agility would help her evade the cops. She stood up and took off, only to be stopped by a hand on her forearm. She turned around with panic in her eyes, coming face to face with the same blue eyes from the moment of the race. Satisfied, she was sure he was there to help, that he had been concerned about her, and she smiled in relief. "Come with me, I'll get you out of here," he said, his deep voice sending shivers down her spine. She nodded in agreement and let him guide her to a black Mercedes. They weren't intercepted, and she thanked God. The place was almost empty now; everyone had been caught or was about to be, and the patrol cars were already heading to the nearest police station. Natalie got into the sports car with the stranger, looking around scared and breathless, suspicious of her luck in not being captured yet. He started the engine and sped off, and she looked at him as if he were crazy. "Are you insane? We won't be able to get out of here, the passage is closed. Shut this the fuck down and let's stay hidden in here until they leave" se said. The windows were dark enough that if nobody had seen them enter there, they wouldn't suspect that there were people inside the car. The stranger smiled at her and reached out a hand to caress her face, to which she recoiled with a furrowed brow. "Don't worry, darling. I'll take care of you." Putting the Mercedes in motion, Blue Eyes skirted the area and exited through the main gate without alarming the two police officers who were watching that area. Natalie parted her lips, worried, and dug her nails into the leather upholstery. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. He smiled again, driving quickly through the deserted streets in the early hours of the morning. "You have the right to remain silent," he replied, and she swallowed hard. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law..."

2024.05.04 04:22 Penalbattalion Ford MyKey Help

I recently purchased a 2011 ford escape and the last owner only had a single key which is not the admin key. And to make matters worse this key belonged to his son and he figured it would be a good idea to activate mykey feature on it which if you don`t know what it is, it basically allows the admin key to limit the other keys speed, max volume of the radio etc. For a while I have been trying to fix this problem without paying 300 dollars for an extra key. And I followed this youtube tutorial to get rid off this feature with an obd2 and an app called focccus. The problem is every time i try to scan the vehicle with the app it gives me an error which says "can`t connect to ECU switch ELM to HS-CAN" now there is a switch on my cable and no matter what i try it keeps giving me this error. Now I know that this is a far fetched cry for help, but i am hoping that someone from the community can help me out with this problem.

I want to eliminate the need to use our shop scanners for pre-scans, and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with using an iPad just to scan the car and email faults to print off. It’s difficult to get any good information out of these apps I’m seeing on whether or not you can email full scan reports, and whether or not they would have BMW specific codes instead of just Generic OBD2 codes.
Basically from what I’m finding, going that route and getting what I want from it aren’t going to happen. I’m hoping maybe someone has any more knowledge on it. If not, I’m just going to bite the bullet and get my own scanner. Sharing scanners isn’t the worst thing. Im just tired of waiting for one to be available to use just to perform a pre scan report.
