2024.05.21 15:00 Aurfo Out of country, got sick.
I’m 16F, I live in Florida but my family is in Sardinia right now, so EU. I’m away from my doctor.
I have a cough for a couple of days (4?), started coughing out green phlegm around the second day, had a fever yesterday (101.2F or 38.44 C ), and have a fever today (102 F or 38.89.)
Today I also feel like throwing up, but it gets caught in my throat. (Happens to my phlegm too.) Today I feel pain/pressure under my jaw, just above where my Adam’s apple is in my throat. Might be placebo, but I have difficulty swallowing as well
Yesterday (day 3) I got in contact with a doctor in Italy through the computer. She told me to send photos of my tonsils (I did), said they were fine. She gave me 250mg Macladin to take twice a day, and two spoonfuls of grinTuss per day (started yesterday)
My nail beds are also a little blue. That happens whenever I get sick (what does that mean)
I feel bad for ruining the vacation and I want to get better as soon as possible. I also want to make sure im not about to drop dead on the spot
Do you know what I have? I’ll answer questions in the comments. And should I be taking anything else? I’m a tad miserable

Quick rundown is that I’m an HLAB27+ 32yo female with family history of AS (dad and grandfather). Various symptoms for about 17 years but only recently saw a rheumy who is “highly suspicious” that I have AS but no official diagnosis yet. MRI did show some edema and inflammation in left SI joint but it was fairly minimal so not a slam dunk for diagnosis. Next step is trying a biologic (Humira) as diagnostic tool and pray it helps. Feels worth saying that I have an active lifestyle and exercise / eat well and drink minimally. I do have a stressful job as a junior executive at a movie studio but I manage the stress okay for the most part.
I’ve had increasingly bad flare up type experiences but without the official diagnosis I’m curious if this does indeed sound like an AS flare up to you all.
When I have multiple demanding days in a row - in this case it was flying from NY to Florida May 11-14 for a trip to Disney World, flying NY to LA May 16 for multiple 12 hour work days with lots of work socializing, and a day at Disneyland with my best friend on May 19 before flying back to NY on May 20 - I am absolutely physically wrecked after. On my flight back yesterday I cried almost the whole time. Everything hurts but the worst is my neck/jaw/face that is absolutely unbearable. Ears feel full and hurt, likely from the TMJ. Headaches all over. Low back and mid back also deeply aching and tight. Wrists and ankles hurt as well. IBS flares. Super stiff all around. And not dizziness but just feeling like I’m in a total blurry fog. If I were to describe it without knowing anything about AS, I would say it just feels like my whole body swells up with anger and everything hurts so much. I slept 10 hours last night and only feel worse. Honestly feeling like this makes me want to die in the moment but I know I’ll have good days again.
I typically manage my pain fairly well with exercise and a daily routine that works for me but the last 10 days have thrown me completely off. Sometimes I worry this is just what being run down feels like for anyone but I don’t think so?? If I had the clear diagnosis I’d be like okay this is a flare up, but I wonder what others of you think… does this sound like an AS flare up?

My 9 ½ month old has her first cold. I feel so helpless and just wanna take her pain away. How do I help her? I've suctioned her nose. She fights me every time though so idk if I'm getting out as much as I should. I've checked her temperature multiple times and it says no fever, but she is flush and very hot to the touch. I wipe her forehead and neck with cold wash clothes and wipe her nose with tissue when she sneezes. I also gave her a bath to relax her today. Idk what else I can do?

I hope you all are having a great Tuesday morning because I am not, actually since last night I had a slightly swollen neck, and this morning I woke up looking like this! submitted by CousinSam22 to TMJ [link] [comments] Will give a little background to help understanding how I got here, last week I had a very bad cold, fever, sneezing, sore throat and the hole package of cold symptoms… I am a 420 user on a daily basis, but in small portions… its been six months I stopped smoking and chose healthier ways to get high, like gummies or vaporing flower (not vape pen) the reason I chose that was because my throat and neck was getting swollen.. (since I stopped smoking my throat and neck got back to normal size) Yesterday morning I was feeling great, recovering from last week cold, my voice was coming back and I was having way less symptoms, I decided to vaporize just a little bit of flowers to give me some a better energy as I was going to meet some family members.. it did help me with my voice and throat pain which is crazy but vaping flowers is way less harsh.. At night I got some leftovers from my family member I met who ate at Carmines restaurant (their foods are amazing by the way!) and also ate some more food I cooked for me and my husband, oh I also tried a new Heinz catchup with Habanero just a tiny bit because Im not a spicy food fan.. After 30 minutes from trying it I started feeling this discomfort from my face and neck, but it wasn’t swollen yet, just could feel my heartbeat on my face… fews hours I noticed the swollen.. Im counting the minutes to get 9/10am so I can my ENT doctor to schedule an appointment and I will also run a full blood test, because on my google search the results as USUAL were catastrophic lol 😩 it went a food allergy to HIV infection… as you noticed I am gay and I am not on Prep (because I am allergic to TRUVADA and I am waiting on the list to try a different version of Prep) Based on your experience, what this could be? Right now I took a Benadryl and I am hoping for the best and hoping that its just an allergic reaction or Sinusitis… but it’s scary! I never experienced something like this… only when I had my wisdom teeth removed (I removed 4 at once so I didn’t have to deal with the pain twice) and that was expected, but now I dont have any pain, I just had my tooth cleaned last week before the cold started so teeth problem is out of question as a symptom.. Can anyone help me calm myself down? Im writing this post shaking.. I already dont see myself on the mirror as a handsome person because of bullys back in school but my therapist always told me if you have a symmetrical face or as closest as possible to that means people might find you attractive and I based myself care on that since I heard that, now this messes entirely with my symmetry and makes me looks like Shrek 😩 of course my look is the least of my problems at this moment but I want my normal face back 😞 HELP’ And Thank You for stopping by and read this post ❤️ |

My fiancé had an emergency appendectomy about 4 weeks ago. The surgery went well, and the appendix did not burst during or before removal. Prior to the surgery, the CT also showed he had an unobstructed kidney stone and an unobstructed gallstone. The surgeon offered to remove the gallbladder too (in case there would be issues later) but he declined, as unnecessary gallbladder removal can cause a lot of complications (I myself have some of those, as does my brother. Surgeon said these complications are about 1 in 3 patients. His gallbladder has never bothered him, so why roll the dice?)
He was really sore after surgery but was doing better each day and on track for recovery. He went back to work after 2 weeks. His job is more physical and requires walking several miles, so post-pain we initially chalked up to all the walking. At about 3.5 weeks, the pain got much worse, and he was in as much pain as he had been after the end of week 1. The pain was on his left lower abdomen/side, and the pain stretched toward his belly button. They had gone in laparoscopically on that side, so figured it was his incisions bothering him.
His incisions all looked good and still do. No redness, drainage, etc. Then he spiked a fever of almost 103. We went to the ER and they saw in his chart that he had had an unobstructed gallstone. The ER team focused on that gallbladder hard and was trying to get him to have it removed before they even got any testing back. They did a blood panel (his WBC count was a little elevated, but nothing insane), an x-ray, a CT, a urine test, and an ultrasound. They lied and told him they did Murphy's Test on him and that his gallbladder had thickening walls and was inflamed. But they never did the Murphy's Test and he has and had no pain in that area. They really scared us, saying he could die etc. In the end, they called another surgeon to look at the scans and they said to cut us loose if he wasn't having pain. They gave him no antibiotics and just told him to follow up with his doctor.
He called the surgeon that had done the surgery and the surgeon said he did not see any wall thickening or inflammation in the scans. He said the gallbladder looked like it had before his surgery. He also said the CT did not show any abscesses or infections. So on top of everything else, we feel like the ER scared us for...What exactly? Money from an unnecessary surgery?
Over the weekend, his pain worsened, and he kept teetering between elevated and low-grade fever. He has been very constipated. His pain also began to stretch lower into his pelvis, and now into his balls. He seems to have some sort of lump on his pelvis - I'm not sure if its a lymph node or what it is.
He went in to see his primary care doctor yesterday who ordered more blood tests and then scheduled an ultra sound for today. His blood tests were pretty normal, except for a 13.1 mg/L high sensitivity CRP. Today, he also now has a rash developing on his arms and legs. We're just really worried and have no idea what is going on. Has anyone else experienced something like this or have any ideas?

I’ve been reading and posting in this sub for a year, have/read Ferber and PLS, and nothing prepared me for this. :(
LO was ST’ed around 5m using Ferber and then CIO. Started STTN fairly consistently around 7m (but still with EMWs), save for some setbacks due to illness or traveling. 2 months ago he started having a spate of illnesses back to back - cold/flu, double ear infection w 2 rounds of abx, herpangina, then another cold/flu, then another viral thing that caused a roseola rash, then another viral thing. Plus teething (molars coming in), walking, talking, 2-1 transition… just a lot happening all at once. During this time, we rocked to sleep at the beginning of the night and co slept when he woke up screaming in the night. He was napping ok up until a week ago when he started scream-fighting his nap(s).

Around 10p my husband tried to lay him down, but he crawled right back to his corner and stayed there the whole night. Looks like he slept ~2 hours at a time sitting up, clutching the rails. I slept poorly also, and felt so bad when I woke up at 5:30a and saw him still sitting that I pulled him into bed so he could get at least an hour of sleep lying down.
Every post I’ve read on this says “leave him be” and “maybe practice sitting to lying transition during the day” (not sure how necessary the latter is as he’s 1 now and pretty sure he can go from sitting to lying on his own easily). But I feel terrible. :(
Advice? Success stories? Commiseration? Anything would help.
Schedule (since someone may ask — but as I said I’ve been on this sub for a year so am fairly certain it’s not a schedule issue): DWT 6:30-7a, Nap 1 11a-1p, Bedtime 7:30-8p. We typically get abt 12-13 hours total sleep in a 24-hour period.

I’ve been reading and posting in this sub for a year, have/read Ferber and PLS, and nothing prepared me for this. :(
LO was ST’ed around 5m using Ferber and then CIO. Started STTN fairly consistently around 7m (but still with EMWs), save for some setbacks due to illness or traveling. 2 months ago he started having a spate of illnesses back to back - cold/flu, double ear infection w 2 rounds of abx, herpangina, then another cold/flu, then another viral thing that caused a roseola rash, then another viral thing. Plus teething (molars coming in), walking, talking, 2-1 transition… just a lot happening all at once. During this time, we rocked to sleep at the beginning of the night and co slept when he woke up screaming in the night. He was napping ok up until a week ago when he started scream-fighting his nap(s).

I (21M) i'm currently at half of my Bachelor's degree, Some of my professors have been a bit ambitious with their assignments, making them a pain in the ass that drains my energy and time in something that i don't have enough skills for. This has been getting heavier and heavier recently, and this had forced me to make changes i don't usually do.
-I sleep less and less than before, with this, i sleep later than usual -Sometimes i eat a lot less than what i should, while i also get episodes of gluttony, to the point of almost throwing up -I've been feeking REALLY Dizzy and my coordination is just shit. -I have headaches almost everyday -I get too stressed and slow that it makes it really complicated to articulate words or sentences, forcing myself to speak slower and loud. -i can't see with clarity, and i don't use glasses. -i get a lot of pain over my shoulders and my neck
Not to mention that my neighbors began their remodeling work, and for some stupid reason they only do it from 7 am to 9 am. If i go to sleep at 4 am, this fucks up completely my sleep. I've been feeling really burned out that it takes me HOURS to even get enough motivation to do anything productive.
And what do i get from my parents? "It is what it is, stop drowning in a glass if water and quit whinning, you're not gonna survive in the real world if you keep being like that." I KNOW, I FUCKING KNOW, i hate that i can't fail, and they see every little break as a waste of time, not to mention that my dad believes i should be working on vacations instead of taking breaks, i can't even choose where I want to work at, he wants me to work specifically in Physical, demanding jobs, why? because he doesn't want me to look for Part-time jobs for money.
My parents don't believe in Burnouts, They will only believe that you need to take a step back when you're almost dying. I don't wanna drop off of school, i just want everything to come to a fucking end, take a break and get sone empathy from my parents.

Ie I get red itchy blotches/rash on my chest and neck and arms when I wear sunscreen and it looks awful. But just generally my chest area is always blotchy from normal products (even natural ones) and I get lots of large bumps (not spots)as well if I put anything oily on at all but my skin there looks dry if I don't moisturise it So...

We've been caring for a community cat at my grandmother's for almost 2 months. He's very sweet, lets us pet and hold him, and loves coming inside, but my grandmother's cat doesn't get along with him. We've looked after him since he was young, and he's over a year old now.
He's not feral, unlike the other two we're caring for there. One day, we found him with blood dripping from his neck. The ER vet diagnosed a cat bite abscess with fever and prescribed meds, requiring him to stay inside for 14 days. He also had diarrhea, which was diagnosed as Giardia—which we found out about ever since we brought him indoors at ur own house.
We've been treating him with meds through our primary vet with Metronidazole and he completed Pancur. Metronidazole liquid was a no go for 2 weeks because he kept spitting it out. Tablets have worked better in giving it to him. We're trying to resolve the Giardia and diarrhea first. We supervise him around our other indoor cats, but he doesn’t use the litter box correctly, so he uses pads instead.
He cries every night from 3am-7am. The vet said it's because he's used to being nocturnal, and prescribed Gabapentin 100mg every night, which helps but only gives him 4-5 hours of sleep. Recently, I've been giving him a half dose if he wakes up early. The vet said Gabapentin is safe long-term and can be tapered off, but the vet is not very concerned about the Giardia or Gabapentin.
We're keeping him inside until the Giardia is gone, supervising him to avoid litter box issues. Gabapentin sometimes doesn't work. I'm worried about long-term effects on his organs. I plan to move him to my apartment once repairs are done (weather stripping on ceiling from storm). Currently, he’s in a separate room at night. We try playing with him using toys, treats, catnip, and Feliway, but he's still wide awake before bed. I fear releasing him back outside where he might get hurt again or worse. He's so young and deserves better.
I’ve considered rehoming him but due to him being overly playful, I fear that he would repeatedly be rehomed or dropped off in the streets. It’s like he has ADHD :o
EDIT: my cats don’t mind him but also don’t want to play with him because he can be rough when playing. He’s very lean for a 1 year old. But he’s not aggressive either. My cats are between 3-16 years old! My 3 year old was like him when she was his age but not this hyper. She definitely has competition lol

- The first instance, the doctor suggested it likely wasn't allergy if I hadn't changed anything and said that (what I thought was adult acne) was in fact rosacea and he thought this allergic looking reaction was actually a rosacea flare. He prescribed doxycycline.
- I've been on doxycycline and the pustules have improved, but yesterday morning I had another "flare" (pictured). The doc has doubled down on it being rosacea and has prescribed 1% Ivermectin Cream.

I am really worried because I think my cartilage piercing is infected. I have a lot of sinus issues, so last week, I went to sort of a massage therapist to resolve the problem. While putting oil on the back of my neck, she was massaging this in and hitting my piercing everytime she did so. It hurt, and I asked her to avoid it but she didn't. She hit the piercing at least 20 times HARD.
Three days ago, I noticed the piercing was hurting. Yesterday, I noticed a MASSIVE bump on the back of the piercing and the earring looks smaller in my ear. I am worried it is becoming embedded. I can still move the piercing to the front so I believe it can still be taken out. But I am really worried.
Since cleaning it was saline spray, the piercing only hurts when I try to move the crusties surrounding it. It doesn't feel hot and I do not have a fever. It also doesn't constantly hurt. I am going to the piercer to get a longer bar. I was wondering if there is anything else I should do. I already have a longer bar in but with the bump it is not long enough.
This piercing is 2 1/2 months old, I got it pierced March 5th. I haven't had any issues with it, other than slight bruising when I first got it. I believe I have a flat-back internally threaded stud in the piercing, and it has not been downsized but the swelling is enough to reach the back of the piercing (I can still see the entire back though). My aftercare includes spraying it with the NeilMD Saline Spray.
Also I wanted to add that the piercing has a lot of crust, it is yellow. I don't see pus leaking out of the piercing, just yellow dried crust but there is enough of it to cover the front of the piercing and it comes back even after I clean it off. Like I said, it doesn't hurt or feel hot to touch.
Edit: I read some posts that suggest the piercing might be irritated rather than infected. I can't change the title of the post but would still like some feedback. Thank you!

For all of you going through having to deal with these, I'm sorry. As one who has suffered greatly for years with sores 80-90 % of the time (!), leading to fever, aches in head, jaw, face, neck as well as not being able to work, I had lost hope. Many times. People suggested and recommended but nothing worked.
I am still in a bit of shock and doubt because I'm so used to it always coming back after a little relief. But I've used a toothpaste for some months now and I ran out like two weeks ago. Bit the inside of my lips and then it was lift of. Ended up with around 7-8 painful sores right away. I was reminded how fucking painful it is and how much better I'd been since I started using it. I'm not sure it will work for everyone but I would be selfish if I didn't share this!

My son is 5 years old I noticed one side (right) of his tonsil was swollen back in august since then it has grown and now both are swollen but right side it still more swollen then the other.. he has his molars growing in and the right cheek got swollen (the dentist said it’s normal for his cheek to swell). The dr says his tonsils are probably just allergies and seen normal “ most kids have inlarged tonsils” he says. The symptoms I’ve noticed: snoring, and he says it’s a bit hard to swallow that he has a lot of saliva and feels a click when he swallows sometimes.. he also has swollen lymph nodes and complained twice that he had side neck pain and a headache but went away. Any ideas? Am I over thinking everything. I also noticed his neck pulsing a lot at night
