2024.05.21 14:08 RoleComfortable8276 Alarm bells a'ringn - a first

I'm grateful that my two AiBnb units are occupied most of the time in my [unfortunately] low-revenue, non-destination-location, quiet suburban neighborhood.
My cleaner and I put great effort into presenting each guest with a stellar experience, and we seem to be accomplishing that, virtually all the time.
Here's a kink that never occurred to me, with all the scrubbing, dusting, airing, fluffing, and amenities we carefully stage to welcome each guest.
A lovely guest (third timer) got RUDELY awakened at 4 AM on her vacation by a loudly annoying alarm clock going off in some other room.
Clearly, someone right before her, occupying the second bedroom in the unit, had used the alarm, or perhaps more likely - a guest had a child with curious hands, who, unbeknownst to all [God bless that brat 😆], turned on the alarm clock.
There was nothing I could do for the poor guest who reported this (who knows how late they'd stayed out the night before), but she was most gracious when I found out, and I promised her such a thing would never happen again.
We're PROUD of our turnovers. We think of and go to lengths such as fan blades. Baseboards. Dust on chandeliers. Fresh batteries. Lightbulbs all working. Clocks displaying correct time. Making sure lawn guy didn't drop a cigarette butt or candy wrapper somewhere outside. Recheck the bathroom once AGAIN after bringing in a plumber for some leak or drain or faulty faucet. In other words, PLACE LOOKS PRISTINE.
NEVER ONCE stopped to think of CHECKING that tiny alarm button nobody even uses anymore to see that it's off.
Never ONCE has a guest reported a discourteous and thoughtless device making itself known with a dreadful, sleep jarring sound, forcing some abruptly awakened poor woman to play hide and seek in the middle of the night, and wander around an unfamiliar space at %X*$!&#@ AM, searching for a maddening noisemaker with the most grating sound, oh where, oh where is that button - without even coffee in me - so I can return to my bed and get back to S-L-E-E-P???
It's been a lonnnng time since I've added a task to our turnover checklist. But even one [brief, but oh, so] miserable guest encounter will change that!
We WILL check the clocks - ALL OF THEM - every time, and ensure such a [arrrrgh!!!] vacation-obstructive buzzkill can NEVER occur, even if it's once every [I've been hosting for] six years.
GOOD ONE!!!
Anyone else ever had this experience???
To those to whom it has not: Has it occurred to anyone else to check clock alarms when doing turnovers? I'm so interested!!
Most obliged in advance for your responses

2024.05.21 14:05 lukewarmy Dentist not interested in X-rays, opinion on issue with sensitive tooth?

I had my first upper right premolar done in Feb by previous dentist, he saw on X-ray that it needed a filling but thought it would be quick (was sorta coerced into doing it immediately as "it'll be quick", even though I was there for a cleaning and an opinion on the wisdom tooth and did not have the extra time off work and the mental fortitude for pain which I ended up needing for this). Cavity ended up being deeper than expected and very painful. Chewing on this tooth was super painful and I just avoided it for a month until it seemed to settle down.
While the first premolar settled, the second premolar also seemed to hurt, and there was a transitional period where I wasn't sure if one or the other hurt.
I then started going to a different dentist. She began work on it immediately, since I told her it hurts when chewing. I also wanted to show her the X-ray from the previous scan, especially for an opinion on my erupting wisdom tooth, but she was disinterested and told me the wisdom tooth is growing fine without checking it, which slightly confused me. (https://imgur.com/YeIRJ5O if this is of any use, idk.)
She continues to find 8 teeth with cavities (and a couple more as she begins fixing them), and, fair enough - I have neglected to see a dentist for a while. I continue going for fillings but only on the right side, since I can only chew on my left. (Got lower molars and second premolar fixed since then).
I get shooting pain lasting about 10-20sec from cold water, or hot tea, biting down on a seed or even like, a hard piece of bread crust, or anything sweet or acidic on it. Dull ache if I chew something tough with it like meat.
I was told to stop avoiding that side, but when I described the symptoms above, I was told to avoid nuts/seeds and hot foods. It still happens quite a lot and the pain is pretty distressing to have to eat through.
Dentist told me it should go away on its own, keep doing gum massage etc, and that the pain is likely because I had not gotten my teeth cleaned for too long. It has since been 3 months since then, have not noticed any improvement. I ask if it would help if I did a new X-ray, as the prev dentist did them regularly, and she told me that she disagrees with his methods and that "I don't do X-rays on live, healthy teeth". And that she would not do anything to this tooth unless the pain got way worse (in which case she'd root canal/extraction).
I'm just afraid that if I wait and ignore the pain until a root canal is needed, that I would have missed my chance to save the tooth. Anyway, since some things struck me as here is why I'm here asking for an opinion. I'm curious what parts of her recommendations you agree/disagree with? I'm looking for another dentist for a second opinion irl as well ofc, but I'm trying to really be sure before I go to yet another since budget isn't too big and I have at least 4 teeth left to fix, apparently.
ETA: Not a smoker, moderate coffee drinker, no sodas, sweet drinks etc.

2024.05.21 13:57 maximusaemilius A cozy day with a tall chitin-armored alien girlfriend.

She got up in the dark, with only the dim ambience of soft blue lighting to accompany her. She stretched all four arms, her two legs, and rolled her neck. It struck her as mildly interesting in that moment, how something so small could connect them to humans, The thought was fleeting as she took another step forward to kneel down on the floor. There, in a little alcove in the wall, she had set a volcanic rock from Anin, dried moss, and other paraphernalia from her home world. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath resting her hands together.
Praise and respect to the spirits of Anin. Praise the fathers and mothers of war gone to their rest below the moss and the earth. Praise their spirits that watch from the sky and peer through the ether down upon us.
She continued the slow mantra in the style of Prayer learned from Naktan and pulled her concentration to her core, ignoring anything and everything around her. A deep state of meditation overtook her. She would never have done this if she thought there were any chance that she was in danger, but below she knew Earth glowed like a sphere before their orbiting ship. There was no worry of invasion.
She thought she heard something at one point, but chose to ignore it as she continued her mantra.
Eventually, and after an unknown amount of minutes, she stood and turned slowly to find-
She stopped, and crossed her arms over her chest.
"What are you doing?”
Adam burrowed his way further down into her blankets, nuzzling his head up against her pillow,
"So warm, and comfy!"
She tried not to smile,
"You dumbass."
He pulled the blankets tighter around himself,
"You know, I did come here to talk to you, but now I actually am really comfortable, so come back in two hours."
"I- This is MY home!"
He closed his eyes and pretended to snore loudly.
She rolled her eyes as she watched him theatrically pretend to sleep. She looked around mildly for a moment, before picking up another pillow and glancing at the door. She casually walked over, dropped the pillow on his head and then held it down as if she intended to smother him.
”Die human scum!”
That got him up and moving.
Before long the two of them were grappling for the upper hand, him trying to put her in a choke hold, and her using her lower arms to pinch him.
He yelped,
"Ouch! Pinching is illegal!”
"Sissy."
He clamped his legs around her lower arms, pinning them in place.
She struggled for a minute and then went limp.
She could feel his smug smile,
"I win, I beat the saint of Anin. Everyone bow at my feet."
"You say that, but if this were a real fight, since you’re a human male, you're the one with a self-destruct button."
"Self-destruct button...?"
"Meaning if this were a real fight, I would have punched you in the balls."
"Yaoooutch
 Oh god
 Please don't."
Finally, he let her go, leaving the two of them to lay on her bed, sheets scattered on the floor around them, and her pillows in disarray. Adam put his hands behind his head and sighed.
She glanced over at him,
"I don't suppose you came to just hang out. Here on Admiral-ly business?"
He groaned, pulling one of her pillows over his face,
"Please smother me for real this time."
She leaned up on one of her elbows,
"Why?"
"I don't wanna be an adult anymore!"
She tilted her head to the side, watching in amusement as he attempted to throw a childlike tantrum, but only really had the energy to kick his feet once,
"It's boring and lame and they won’t let me wear heelies to important meetings... also children don't have to pay taxes."
She laughed, pulling the pillow from his face,
"Adam you are many things, but 'adult' is not one of them."
He grinned slightly,
"True enough."
He sighed again and rested his head back against the pillows,
"I just want to get back to what we are supposed to be doing, exploring the universe and making cool alien friends."
He threw up his hands in frustration,
"But suddenly I find myself embroiled in stupid annoying politics that I don't understand, being used by people who are, let’s face it, WAY smarter than me, constantly finding myself getting manipulated."
She huffed,
"They aren't smarter than you Adam, they're just manipulative, and you aren't."
He sighed,
"Fair enough."
Then he looked at her, bright green eyes reflecting the soft ambient blue light,
"I just, I miss this, I miss us, I miss hanging out and doing stupid shit, and all of the things I could do when I wasn't so important and this operation was smaller."
She smiled rather sadly reaching one hand over for his, lacing the four of her fingers through the five of his,
"Well someone has to do the hard things, who better than you?”
He glanced over at her, raising an eyebrow,
"Or you, miss saint?”
She rolled her eyes again,
"Can't seem to get you off of that. I'm still the same person I used to be."
"But with power."
She elbowed him gently and he grinned,
"But really, I am proud and impressed and... Let's be honest super super smug that 'I' know you personally."
"I know, I am pretty terrific."
The two of them laughed for a minute before settling down again. He glanced over to her little shrine on the wall,
"What were you doing just then?"
She looked up at the ceiling, following the lines of metal and rivets with her eyes,
"Praying to the spirits of Anin."
Embarrassed, he shifted,
"I didn't know you were... Well I didn't think you were all that religious?"
She shrugged,
"Don't feel bad, it's sort of a new thing. Back before all this, it was sort of just stories to me. Like I believed it because that was what everyone believed, but I didn't really accept it, or feel it the way I do now. After everything with my mother, it was hard to feel connected to something I felt I wasn't a part of... But then after visiting my mother, after becoming a saint for a religion I never really followed... Well, it started to make more sense. It feels real now in a way that it never did."
She turned to look at him, finding him watching her, the UV blue stripes in his skin glowing blue.
"I believe in the spirits of Anin more than I ever have."
He smiled at her and squeezed her hand,
"I'm glad to hear it."
They lapsed into silence for a long moment, staring up at the ceiling before, inevitably he broke it,
"So this makes you like, space Moses right?”
She frowned and turned to look at him,
"What is a “Moses”?"
He grinned,
"A guy from one of the Earth Religions. You know, guy follows god's directions to lead his people away from slavery, climbs a mountain, receives the word of god, comes down to give it to the people, that sort of thing."
Sunny tilted her head slightly to the side,
"Are you religious?"
He paused, frowning,
"I... well I... don't really know. My family has been some flavor of Christian for a long time."
"Christian?"
"Uh yeah, the general idea is that there is one all-powerful deity who created everything. He has rules and laws that you are supposed to follow, the general tenants of this specific religion mostly boil down to: love everyone and don't be a dick, which humans are notoriously bad at. You sin you go to hell, a very bad place after you die, and if you are a good person you go to heaven. Problem is everyone is a sinner and breaks the rules, so really no one was going to get into heaven."
"That sounds bleak..."
"Well, that's where the other stuff comes in. Basically, this all-powerful deity sent down his son in human form to live a perfect life, so when he was martyred he took on the sins of all of humanity and paid for them in the greatest act of mercy to open the gate for the rest of us into heaven."
Sunny shifted as he tilted to the side to lay in the crook of her arms,
"Of course that is just one religion among tons on earth, we aren't really as cohesive in our beliefs as Drev are... As for me... I'm not really sure."
She tilted her head to the side, cheek resting against his hair,
"After seeing space, I become more and more convinced of some... Thing that created everything, but beyond that it's sort of a tossup."
She ran one hand through his hair, coarse but still soft somehow.
"You know my name comes from that religion?”
She turned her head to look at him,
"Oh, really?”
"Adam was the first man."
"What do you mean!?”
Adam shrugged,
"He was supposedly the first man that god created, from the dust of the earth... I think?"
She gave him a sidelong glance,
"Look, and you get to be the first idiot in space."
He snorted and poked her in the ribs.
"There were PLENTY of idiots in space before me, believe you me."
"Mmm I don't know, you are pretty dumb."
He laughed, grabbing a pillow and hitting her with it. She rolled over so she was lying on top of him and then went limp.
He struggled,
"Get your big ass off me."
"Oh no, I have been attacked by a sudden acute case of the “my spine doesn't work anymore”-disease."
"If you don't move, you'll suddenly find yourself with a case of “fist in your face”-disease."
She laughed and rolled off him, making sure the hard parts of her carapace were sticking down for maximum discomfort.
He grunted.
They returned to lying down next to each other in the half darkness. Sunny reached over and turned on some quiet music in the background as the two of them sat and talked, and laughed.
"I can't wait to get back to deep space."
He closed his eyes and hummed softly at the thought,
"Just the crew and the darkness and nothing ahead of us but an endless frontier."
Surprisingly, she found the thought to be more than a little comforting, and closed her eyes thinking about the vast reaches of blackness and the endless spinning galaxies.
"And while we are out, we can drop Conn into a pulsar."
He snorted,
“Why? Well first of for scientific reasons! If a marshmallow causes a nuclear blast, I wonder what dropping Conn would do
but at least he’d be dead.”
"That billowy bastard would survive and you know it."
She huffed,
"Still though, if I have to hear one more smug lecture how he has a child with you, I'm gonna wring his scrawny neck."
He grinned teeth flashing blue in the light,
"Is someone... Jealous?"
Sunny laughed, almost tipping him off the bed and onto the floor with her mirth,
"Yes Adam, I am totally jealous, really I am, ‘kay?. I mean who wouldn't want to have a child with YOU, big dumb, dork. Really the perfect place to put my superior genes."
"Superior genes, says someone who can't reach the top shelf."
She kicked him, foot clanging off his prosthetic,
"I am a foot taller than you."
He placed his hand next to his ear,
"What was that, I can't hear you over how short you are."
Sunny shook her head,
"At least I have binocular vision and both my knees."
"So we are gonna ignore that that binocular vision is due to a prosthetic now after the whole “your mom” incident? And also, veeery important: weird neck nostrils, don't forget about those!"
"Oh yes, so I can’t house them on my face like you and your bigass nose."
"Low blow, low blow."
"There are... Lower things... I could make fun of."
He snorted,
"Can't make fun of it if you've never seen it. You on the other hand, walking around in the nude..."
"You're welcome. Who wouldn't love
"
She gestured to herself,
"This."
"Mmm yeah... chitin, very sexy."
"I am a gift to the universe, and should be appreciated by everyone."
He brushed a hand through his hair,
"Well I find that real gifts are gift wrapped, so jot that down."
"Oh yeah, like a prank gift when you put something lame in a box for something cool."
He frowned at her,
"You wound me. My feelings are so very very hurt. I might even cry."
"I drink human tears."
"That
 that's really gross.'
She laughed and then they lapsed into silence. She could hear him breathing quietly next to her in the darkness, his chest rising and falling under the ambient blue light. She looked across the room to where her saint armor was hanging in its climate-controlled case illuminated to a pearly sheen.
"Adam?"
"Yeah?”
"You know I'm just kidding about calling you dumb right?"
"Yeah I know."
"I'm proud of what you've been doing."
Adam turned to look at her rather incredulous,
"Me, of what? I haven't been doing shit."
"So, we are just going to ignore you overthrowing a maniacal politician while simultaneously piloting a 2,000 year old spacecraft?"
"That was more Conn and Eris than it was me."
"It was your idea."
"Let’s not forget Admiral Kelly."
Sunny pulled him closer,
"I am sorry, I will not be accepting anything other than you acknowledging that you did a good job."
"Screw you!”
"You'd like that wouldn't you?”
He sighed,
"You've been talking to Ramirez WAY too much."
She was only slightly smug as she rested her head back against the pillow,
"I really should get up and train..."
"We should yeah..."
Neither of them moved.
"Alternatively, we could just... Lay here... All day and do... nothing."
She looked up at the ceiling for a long moment and pretended to be in deep contemplation before

"Well it's official, you have convinced me. You and your silver tongue."
"I am a master negotiator."
He shifted position putting one arm behind his head,
"Think about it, by this time tomorrow we will be back to space exploring and doing what we should have been doing all along. I can't wait."
"That makes two of us."

2024.05.21 13:56 percivaltercy Help request: replaced battery on a mid-2009 15" MBP (5,3). It will not boot. It does boot if I disconnect the battery.

A couple of weeks ago, I realized that my mid-2009 15" Unibody Macbook Pro (5,3) was showing signs that the battery was swelling. I removed the battery, and I have been using it by booting it with the "press power for 20 seconds with the unplugged magsafe, plug magsafe, release power, wait 5 seconds, press power" procedure. It worked fine. I purchased a replacement battery, installed it, managed to boot it up without tightening all screws - I didn't tighten in case something didn't go as expected and I needed to open it again. When I saw that everything was working fine, I shut down, tightened all screws and it didn't boot up. I have since, removed battery and been able to boot without a battery a few times. But every time I plug the battery again, it does not boot up. I have tried several combinations of all screws tightened, just a few screws tightened, booting with magsafe, without magsafe, tried reseting SMC and NVRAM... These last two, pressing the power button shows no sign of life whatsoever. The only sign that the battery is connected is the little button on the side that shows the battery charge, 6 out of 8 dots are on. The magsafe connector shows the green light when connected. I am running out of ideas, hoping that a savvy redditor will enlighten me with Mac Lore.

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

2024.05.21 13:51 BidOk655 Hey Tabitha

I honestly hope you read this .... There is a very very slim chance of anyone with Autism wearing the clothes and accessories you do . This is how I know you are NOT DIAGNOSED!! For 1 I am diagnosed and i plan every day how im going to dress, how the clothes are going to make my skin feel , how bad the texture of the material is going to bother me and what kind of mood all of this is going to put me in ... let me just drop this article right here for you to read ... THE RIGHT CLOTHING CHOICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM When it comes to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), everyday tasks can be a challenge for individuals. From social interactions to sensory processing, there are many areas where people on the spectrum can face difficulties. Clothing is one of them, and picking the right outfit can be a particularly daunting experience for people with ASD. In this blog post, we’ll explore the many ways that clothing can affect those on the spectrum and offer some tips on how to create a wardrobe that will work for you or your loved one. TIPS 2: COMFORTABLE & PRACTICAL For those struggling with sensory issues, tight or restrictive clothing should be avoided. Clothing that is too tight, or too loose, can lead to feelings of discomfort or restriction, which can make it harder for individuals with ASD to focus on daily tasks. Clothes that allow for ease of movement and ventilation, such as cotton fabric clothing, can be ideal for people with ASD TIP 3: AVOIDING OVER-STIMULATION Clothing with bold patterns, bright colors, or graphic designs can be overwhelming for someone with ASD and can increase the risk of sensory overload. If you are looking for patterned or bright clothing, it is suggested to reduce the overall sensory stimulation in the rest of the environment. If sensory overload is a concern, solid colors can often be a great choice as they create a calmer and more consistent environment. TIP 4: ADAPTABLE CLOTHING For individuals with motor difficulties or anxiety, adaptive clothing options can make life easier. Clothing with Velcro straps or magnetic buttons, for example, can help with independent dressing, while inseam zippers can facilitate bathroom usage. In some cases, adaptive clothing can be used to promote independence by allowing the individual on the spectrum to dress without relying on others.
TIP 5: SENSORYFRIENDLY ACCESSORIES Hats, gloves, shoes, and jewelry can also affect an individual’s comfort levels. For people with ASD, wearing accessories that are too tight, too heavy, or too restrictive can be challenging. Here, choosing accessories that are soft, lightweight, and easy to manage can make all the difference. Additionally, avoid accessories with the texture or material that triggers sensory unpleasant triggers.
In conclusion, dressing "correctly" for an individual with autism comes down to personal preference and comfort. It may take some trial and error to find the right fit and materials, but by considering sensory-friendly materials, comfortable and practical cuts, avoiding over-stimulation with patterns, and choosing adaptable clothing and accessories, one can make the task of dressing less daunting. Spending some time selecting clothing items that fit well, feel soft, and provide a familiar sensation can go a long way in making a person with ASD confident and comfortable in their daily activities. By making a few small adjustments, it’s possible to find a wardrobe that is perfect for each individual with ASD.
You prove more and more people right everyday!. Good Job !

2024.05.21 13:51 ethancodes89 Setup profiles and general use tips?

Hi all! I just picked up an XPPen Artist 16 Pro. I'm a programmer by trade but have been getting back into the art side of things for the last 6 months or so. I primarily use Blender and Krita.
I'm curious if I'm able to setup different profiles for the buttons so that I can run one when I'm in blender and another when I'm in Krita?
I'm also just open to any general advice or tips and tricks you guys know for using these things. It's my first time using something like this and I feel like as a non-professional artist I'm sure there are plenty of things I don't even know that I don't know, so anything is appreciated!
Thank you!

2024.05.21 13:43 White_Ring Best air purifier to buy

Hello everyone, I am an active Redditor and I see a lot Redditors are looking to get an air purifier. But with so many options out there it's difficult to find one that cleans your air well. So, to make it easy for them to decide I am making a list of some good options to look at. I'm a guy who is reviewing different products from past 5 years. I do extensive research and also read reviews by customers and experts.
To make this list of best air purifiers I looked at their CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), it is a measure of the rate at which these air purifiers can filter the air in a measured space, with separate readings across dust, smoke and pollen.
So, whether you’re looking for a compact design, large room coverage, energy efficiency or smart features, I have got an air purifier that’s right for your needs.
  1. Blueair Blue Pure 211+ Auto (best overall)
  2. Coway Airmega AP-1512HH (best & energy efficient)
  3. Winix 5500-2 (best for small room)
  4. Clorox Large Room True HEPA (best value)
  5. Honeywell HPA 300 (best for large rooms)

Blueair Blue Pure 211+ Auto - $280

The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ Auto tops the list. This air purifier will suit rooms up to 550 sq ft. It features an upright cuboid design, with a plastic upper section and a skirt fitted around the base, which acts as a pre-filter and comes in several colors. A HEPASilent filter is included, which uses both a carbon and particle layer.
To me, it looks like a futuristic robot, which has a quality appearance compared to the competition. There are three fan speeds on offer as well as an auto function, plus a night mode is included for dimming the lights.
Reasons to buy:
  • If you want a strong air purifier
  • It comes with enough features to suit everyday operation, including three fan speeds, an auto mode and a night mode.
  • The skirt on the lower half of this air purifier comes in several colors, including pink, blue, green and gray, so you can customize it to suit your dĂ©cor or personality.
Reasons to avoid:
  • It weighs 12.5 pounds and measures 20 x 13 x 13 inches (H x W x D)
  • The night mood is good but not excellent

Coway Airmega AP-1512HH

The Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is smaller in size than Blueair Blue Pure 211+, measuring 16.8 x 18.3 x 9.6 inches (H x W x D). Don’t mistake this for meaning it’s more portable though, as it still weighs 12.3 pounds. This air purifier isn’t easy to lug around despite the included handle. While compact, it will suit rooms of up to 384 sq ft.
It has an auto mode included, so it will self-adjust the fan speed depending on the conditions of the room, and it comes with an eco mode which lets it power off when not required.
For me, it's appearance is more in keeping with a hotel or office versus a modern home, but it's performance is worth considering.
Reasons to buy:
  • The Coway Airmega AP-1512HH has the best energy score
  • Takes less space
  • While it’s a compact design, it’s not lacking in settings
Reasons to avoid:
  • A little hard to move around
  • Expensive replacement filters ($40)

Winix 5500-2

The Winix 5500-2 likely won’t win any beauty contests with its appearance, measuring 23.6 x 15 x 8.2 inches with a black plain casing and vents scored across its front. But, in my opinion, it's more likely to blend in with your dĂ©cor than drawer the eye, which is no bad thing.
Plus, it’s still a strong performer, achieving a decent CADR across the board and featuring a design which is very accessible. And if you love unusual tech, the “Plasmawave” technology is sure to raise a few eyebrows. It suits rooms up to 360 sqft.
Reasons to buy:
  • Unique technology
  • Air quality indicator
  • Remote control included
Reasons to avoid:
  • Expensive filters
  • Large and plain design

Clorox Large Room True HEPA

The Clorox Large Room True HEPA Air Purifier offers a small and effective design, measuring 19 x 10 x 10 inches while suiting rooms up to 320 sq ft. It has a neat and pleasing appearance — looking somewhat like a large battery with a fitted pre-filter skirt and a single button on top.
Reasons to buy:
  • This air purifier features a compact design which is ideal for smaller spaces.
  • Priced at $149, this air purifier offers excellent value for money.
Reasons to avoid:
  • it’s likely unsuitable for larger bedrooms or living rooms
  • It does not come with a remote control or smart home connectivity

Honeywell HPA300

The Honeywell HPA300 is a bulky beast of a device that offers strong performance considering its reasonable price. It’s a large oval air purifier with slats all around, measuring 22.3 x 20.0 x 10.8 inches. It’s pretty heavy at 17 pounds.
Reasons to buy:
  • It will cover rooms of up to 465 sq ft, which is pretty sizable
  • Cheap replacement filters
  • The touch-based control panel on top of this air purifier is very easy to use.
Reasons to avoid:
  • It lacks an auto mode, which means it will stick to whatever fan speed you set
  • It consumes a lot of energy, using 1.002 kWh over 24 hours on the standard setting
  • This air purifier is quite a noisy operator

2024.05.21 13:35 Shaffer1398 Update.....💔

An update to my post from before...
Our case unfortunately ended in the worst possible out come...
At 13 weeks, our NIPT came back flagged high risk for the 22q11.2 - DiGeorge Microdeletion, with Maternal deletion suspected. For 7 weeks we sat in limbo, holding hope that we would fall in the "false positive" category, especially with already having 2 perfectly healthy children.
20 week ultrasound, "we are concerned with the low level of amniotic fluid" we were then sent to a level 2 ultrasound a week later where the same was discovered, little to no amniotic fluid..
We were told what this would likely mean....and as we moved forward it would be discovered that due to the micro deletion (which we were later told it was not believed to be DiGeorge but a different microdeletion that slightly overlapped with the DiGeorge deletion) our baby's kidneys were not developing...
Her right kidney had not developed at all and her left was Multicystic (MCDK) - the prognosis was not good.
No kidneys - No Fluid - No lungs... No Chance.
We were faced with a decision. We could TMFR or move forward knowing what we know.
We chose to keep our baby with us, maybe hoping for a miracle, but so we could have proper closure and not regret anything.
We had transferred our care to a high risk unit, in the event a miracle would happen they would be equipped to give her what she needed.
May 7th, 32 weeks in. We had several appointments. a few of which included talking about comfort care options for when she arrived. To make sure she was as comfortable as possible and to arrange for some other things to be set up for us to be able to make some memories with her and our other children. (Clay handprints, Pictures, etc.)
We were also supposed to meet with some people to help us tell our 5 year old son what was coming as we had not yet figured out how to do that (He was so excited to be a big brother again, our 2 year old daughter still too young to understand)
None of this would matter however... the next day my wife came home from work with stomach pains that progressed into the evening (she thought it was constipation) around 9:30 Wednesday evening we went to the ER to have her checked out. (Other than the obvious, the ultrasounds the day before showed no signs of anything abnormal)
Our Daughter came at 11:30... she did not make it.. we knew what we were facing. Expecting the worst, yet it still came unexpectedly...
She never knew pain... only love. Her time here was short, but it changed us forever.
Our sweet Callie Mae đŸ’—đŸ‘Œ
Wanted to update and tell her story.
I hope and pray that no one else ever has to face this, as it is the most heartbreaking experience I will ever face in life.
Thank you for reading.. I will keep all of you in my thoughts. Praying no one else has to go through this

2024.05.21 13:31 ThrowRAmangos2024 Should I (F34) end a friendship of 6 years?

I know this isn't exactly about having lost a friend, but I thought it might be a good place to get some advice on whether I should distance myself from someone.
My good friend of 6 years Jessica (F43) is a big hearted loyal friend. She also has a penchant for causing drama, or being involved with people who cause drama. Her trusting nature means she gives benefit of the doubt to people who are considered by many to be "problematic", for example:
The situation that's made me question my friendship with Jessica involves "A". "A" and I are also mutual colleagues but otherwise not good friends. Recently Jessica made me aware of a beef "A" has with me, which you can read about here. She shared all sorts of personal things "A" said to her about me, and when I initially suggested I might say something to "A" Jessica said "No! I don't want her to know I said anything," which made it clear she'd shared things "A" told her in confidence, putting us both in a difficult spot (and also making me wonder if she'd spilled the beans on me at other times). Later on, she proceeded to lecture me and take "A"s side after I told her I didn't want to discuss the situation with her anymore. When I saw her most recently, she didn't speak to me at all and left my last message to her on read.
I know no one is perfect and I don't wish to have unrealistic expectations of my friends. I would never want to get dropped over the first sign of conflict with someone, so I don't wish to be that person. OTOH, it seems like Jessica is an unnecessary drama magnet and I'm starting to grow exhausted of spending a lot of time and energy on people like this. She has been a loyal friend to me over the years, but for some reason this situation is making me question how close I want to be with her. It probably doesn't help that I'm going through one of the most stressful periods of my adult life right now (buying my first place, two siblings getting married, chronic health issue flares, and a big work event I'm in charge of all happening at once) so that may be clouding my judgement.
I know a lot of nuance is being left out here, but I'm curious in general how you decide when you should be the one to end a friendship. Does this situation sound worthy of ending things over, or am I just being too sensitive/unreasonable in my expectations?

2024.05.21 13:21 ricardo050766 Lexicon on personality traits - helpful for non-native speakers

The following has recently been posted from the user "Vellis" on Discord. I'm reposting it here because IMO it's extremely valuable information on optimizing your Kins behaviour - especially for non-native speakers.
Original link to the post on Discord: https://discord.com/channels/1116127115574779905/1242383088902737972/1242383088902737972
THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL POST FROM VELLIS:
Something I've seen requested quite a few times is a lexicon for Kin personality traits, particularly from the perspective of non-native English speakers. So I made one. There are some big asterisks here though. For each trait, I'm going to give a brief description of the effect that I EXPECT that trait to have on your kin, based on the English meaning of the word and my own experience. There's no guarantee that Kindroid will interpret each of these words exactly the same way I have, or that it will produce the exact effect that I describe. Additionally, traits may produce different outputs than expected when combined with each other, or with other aspects of backstory. There will often be words that are much stronger inside of the inner workings of Kindroid than we might expect. But all that said, it should give you some ideas for words you can use to describe the personality you're trying to make, if you're struggling to find the words to describe what you want. First let's talk a little about adverbs though.
Adverbs
Adverbs are English words that are used to describe how an action is performed. In our case, we're mostly going to be using them to describe how increased or decreased we want the intensity of a trait to be (Very Kind). If we're considering "neutral" to be an unmodified trait, then some words you could use to modify the intensity of that trait from highest to lowest would be:
Extremely----------Very----------Neutral----------Mildly----------Slightly
You might also want to modify how often your kin is inclined to do something ("Often teases USER"). Some words for this are, from most extreme to least:
Always----------Often/Frequently----------Sometimes/Occasionally----------Rarely----------Never
Note that when managing a quirk or behavior, positive is generally stronger than negative (ie. Use Always instead of Never when possible). Now there are hundreds upon hundreds of other adverbs and adjectives that we could use, but for the purpose of modifying your Kin's traits, these should be enough.
Organization
I'm going to be breaking this up into three kinds of traits, social, neutral, and anti-social. Social traits are the things you'd generally associate with your typical friendly and supportive AI. Neutral traits are traits that don't have a positive or negative connotation, things that are just interesting, quirky, or, well, neutral. Anti-social traits are things that would normally be associated with negative or villainous kins.
You'll notice that the definitions for a lot of these traits will sound very similar (or are "synonyms"). I'll note when I've found that some traits are stronger than others, but generally speaking when you're dealing with similar words like that, it won't be overly important which traits you give to your kin. You can also "stack" these similar traits by assigning more than one of them to your kin to produce a stronger response in that direction, though that's often unnecessary for the more social traits. Be careful not to overdo it when stacking traits as well. This can sometimes have unintended consequences on kin behavior, making them act too extremely in one way or another. Finally, if there's nothing here that's lining up exactly with what you're looking for, there's always thesaurus.com to look for more synonyms.

2024.05.21 13:21 BenightedLight Post Fever, Inflammation, Pain, and Rashes After Appendectomy

My fiancé had an emergency appendectomy about 4 weeks ago. The surgery went well, and the appendix did not burst during or before removal. Prior to the surgery, the CT also showed he had an unobstructed kidney stone and an unobstructed gallstone. The surgeon offered to remove the gallbladder too (in case there would be issues later) but he declined, as unnecessary gallbladder removal can cause a lot of complications (I myself have some of those, as does my brother. Surgeon said these complications are about 1 in 3 patients. His gallbladder has never bothered him, so why roll the dice?)
He was really sore after surgery but was doing better each day and on track for recovery. He went back to work after 2 weeks. His job is more physical and requires walking several miles, so post-pain we initially chalked up to all the walking. At about 3.5 weeks, the pain got much worse, and he was in as much pain as he had been after the end of week 1. The pain was on his left lower abdomen/side, and the pain stretched toward his belly button. They had gone in laparoscopically on that side, so figured it was his incisions bothering him.
His incisions all looked good and still do. No redness, drainage, etc. Then he spiked a fever of almost 103. We went to the ER and they saw in his chart that he had had an unobstructed gallstone. The ER team focused on that gallbladder hard and was trying to get him to have it removed before they even got any testing back. They did a blood panel (his WBC count was a little elevated, but nothing insane), an x-ray, a CT, a urine test, and an ultrasound. They lied and told him they did Murphy's Test on him and that his gallbladder had thickening walls and was inflamed. But they never did the Murphy's Test and he has and had no pain in that area. They really scared us, saying he could die etc. In the end, they called another surgeon to look at the scans and they said to cut us loose if he wasn't having pain. They gave him no antibiotics and just told him to follow up with his doctor.
He called the surgeon that had done the surgery and the surgeon said he did not see any wall thickening or inflammation in the scans. He said the gallbladder looked like it had before his surgery. He also said the CT did not show any abscesses or infections. So on top of everything else, we feel like the ER scared us for...What exactly? Money from an unnecessary surgery?
Over the weekend, his pain worsened, and he kept teetering between elevated and low-grade fever. He has been very constipated. His pain also began to stretch lower into his pelvis, and now into his balls. He seems to have some sort of lump on his pelvis - I'm not sure if its a lymph node or what it is.
He went in to see his primary care doctor yesterday who ordered more blood tests and then scheduled an ultra sound for today. His blood tests were pretty normal, except for a 13.1 mg/L high sensitivity CRP. Today, he also now has a rash developing on his arms and legs. We're just really worried and have no idea what is going on. Has anyone else experienced something like this or have any ideas?

2024.05.21 13:15 NickolasViscosi2006 Huge exploit I found on YouTube to skip almost any ad on Roku and other Smart Tvs, idk if it works on mobile and desktop yet!!

Alright, so all you have to do is, when the ad start playing just pause it and hit the up arrow to click on the button that's an i inside of a circle named "information" or "Info about this ad". Then click on "Stop seeing this ad" and then click "Return to video"! It's that simple! After doing it a few times you get really fast at it so you can even save a few precious seconds by skipping 5 second ads if you want!
Now sometimes the i button will be next to the timer for the ad instead of above it. In this case you don't pause it and don't press the up arrow. Instead you want to press the left arrow until you get to the i button and repeat the same process as explained above!
Hopes this helps some and saves people some time and enjoyment! Some ads are just borderline unskipable, so don't feel discouraged if you can't get it first try. But this is a huge exploit I've been using for months and wanted to share. Enjoy peeps!

Best Ways to Remove or Disable BitLocker Drive Encryption
https://preview.redd.it/cfl568cyir1d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=056c2c7cf2a8bc95d5ba92db0554a7d673e1eac1
BitLocker encryption will help to keep your volume or flash drive safe. However, if you no longer require BitLocker encryption, you may easily remove it from your Windows 10 PC. We'll show you four ways to remove/disable BitLocker HDD encryption on Windows 10.

Way 1: Remove BitLocker Encryption via Control Panel

Step 1: Click Computer to access Control Panel. Select System and Security from the list of computer settings.
Step 2: Manage BitLocker by selecting BitLocker Drive Encryption. In the BitLocker Drive Encryption interface, select Turn off BitLocker and confirm your selection. This means that your drive is no longer protected by BitLocker's password.

Way 2: Disable BitLocker Encryption with BitLocker Manager.

Before using BitLocker Manager, you must first unlock the BitLocker encrypted drive using the password or recovery key.
Step 1: While holding down the Windows key, press E.
Step 2: Select This PC to see the Devices and Drives. Choose your BitLocker drive and right-click the mouse. As a result, you will be given the Manage BitLocker option.
Step 3: When you enter the BitLocker Drive Encryption screen, you will be presented with a variety of options. To disable BitLocker encryption, click Turn off BitLocker. After that, you will receive a notification regarding this action; click Turn Off BitLocker again. In the end, BitLocker encryption will not function on your drive.

Way 3: Disable BitLocker using Windows PowerShell.

Step 1: Type powershell into the Windows Start Search box and pick the Windows PowerShell software.
Step 2: Open Windows PowerShell as an administrator and type Disable-Bitlocker -MountPoint "drive letter:" as seen in the screenshot.

Way 4: Disable BitLocker with Command Prompt

Step 1: To start command prompt as an administrator, press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
Step 2: Enter the following command, as shown in the screenshot: Manage-Bde -Unlock F: -RecoveryPassword YOUR-BITLOCKER-RECOVERY-KEY.
Step 3: Press Enter to start the BitLocker drive decryption procedure. BitLocker protection for the drive will be turned off shortly.

External Tips 1: Windows Built-in BitLocker Doesn't Work—What to Do?

How can you uninstall BitLocker from a Windows drive if the built-in feature is missing or no longer works? Don't worry, you can use BLR BitLocker Recovery Software for Windows to disable BitLocker on any Windows drive.
To disable BitLocker on a drive, you must first unlock it. Alternatively, you must enter the password or recovery key before decrypting the drive.
Step 1: Install BLR BitLocker Recovery Software for Windows on your machine. After installation, run it immediately and it will recognize all drives on your computer. Right-click on the drive you wish to decrypt and choose turn off bitlocker.
Step 2: Press the Decrypt button, and the BitLocker removal operation will begin immediately.
Step 3: You will receive a successful notification at the conclusion, and the drive will no longer be protected by BitLocker.

External Tips 2: How to Unlock BitLocker USB on Mac

In most cases, when we insert a USB with BitLocker encryption into a Mac computer, a dialog appears indicating that the USB is unreadable. However, with BitLocker Genius, you can open, read, and access the BitLocker encrypted USB in four steps:
  1. Run the software and attach the USB cable to the Mac.
  2. In the navigation bar, choose the BitLocker USB and then click the Unlock button.
  3. Enter the USB password and then click the Mount button.
  4. The decrypted USB has been successfully shown on the desktop.

2024.05.21 13:14 NickolasViscosi2006 Huge exploit I found on YouTube to skip almost any ad on Roku and other Smart Tvs, idk if it works on mobile and desktop yet!!

2024.05.21 13:10 szecskadomisz How do memecoin gamblers decide which token to burn their money on?

First of all, I want to clarify that I have no intention of trading these. I’m simply curious. Over time, I’ve looked at 5 random tokens; I tracked all the wallets from minting to volume washing, identified coordinator accounts, calculated profits, etc. Their strategy became quite evident after a certain point, with few variables. The ones I examined closed completely between 2 minutes and 1 hour with profits ranging from 8 to 50 Solana. None of them had any real interest behind them. The websites, Twitter, and Telegram accounts were created the same day with minimal fake activity, and no real promotional efforts were made.
So, my question is, how do the people who buy into these tokens even find them in such a short time, and what criteria do they use to decide that a particular token is worth gambling on? Do they watch for new tokens on BirdEye and throw money at everything? Or do they use bots with no actual prior evaluation? But what bots do they use and with what settings, if they’re even buying into tokens where LP tokens aren’t burned and the Freeze Authority isn’t renounced? By the way, in the case of the 5 fully tracked tokens mentioned, these specific red flags were not present - I didn't see the point of investigate those to such an extent. I’m really curious about the background of this.

2024.05.21 13:09 CoraVex GM Intrusion follow-ups (inspired by Fate ideas)

Hello everyone! I've been deep diving into the Cypher System Rulebook for the first time, almost done, and I find myself running comparisons with Fate (which I'm also looking into). Cypher hits so many points beautifully, but there is one idea for Fate, that I'm trying to see how might best work into Cypher (if its even necessary for Cypher).
The makers of Fate released a post as a follow-up to Compels (Fate's version of GM Intrusions, or as close as can be paralleled). They brought up an idea that rather than simply having the player pay up and the compel goes away... turn it into a narrative beat that allows the players to RP out "what happens to prevent the compel", almost turning a compel into a player invocation (almost).
I -love- this idea, and it seems like it would fit well with Cypher, that is, turning a GM Intrusion into a Player Intrusion, so instead of their XP and the twist event just "going away", they are both still put to good use. But I'm curious to hear from others. Is this throwing off a certain balance that I might be overlooking? Are there drawbacks to this idea I should keep in mind?
On a related point, in the same Fate post, there was an idea brought up about Fate Core's idea of "doubling down". That is, offering a second Fate Point to still allow the Compel to go through. To be clear, the point here is, they said that this often NOT a good idea. Here's the interesting part: They said that instead of a double-down... GM offers Compel, Player counters with paying a Fate Point and give their narrative explanation (as described in the first part), THEN the GM works off of THAT counter-narrative to follow-up with a new compel, working off of the NEW narrative that the PLAYER provided. Essentially, rather than adding a complication to the story as it stands, the GM is instead -allowing- the player's narrative twist, and THEN adding the complication on top of that new narrative.
In a system like Fate, where there is such a back and forth between players and GM, with looser mechanics, I can see this working perfectly and beautifully. So here's my open-ended question here. Does some or any of this idea, even in a different "Cypher style", have a place in the world of Cypher, or does this looser back and forth just not fit Cypher's style at all? I'm curious to hear insight from others on this.
For reference:
https://web.archive.org/web/20190927164330/http://ryanmacklin.com/2017/08/revisiting-fate-compel-refusal
The article mentions the first part, and the comments mention the second.
Thank you, whoever takes the time to read this, and to those that respond. In any case, to all, have a nice day!

2024.05.21 13:07 IntelligentLaw2284 Gameboy Enhanced Firmware v0.5 for M5Stack Cardputer More than twice the FPS and Custom Controls, 12 Colour and Super Game Boy modes.

Gameboy Enhanced Firmware v0.5 for M5Stack Cardputer More than twice the FPS and Custom Controls, 12 Colour and Super Game Boy modes.
I've been eager to reach this point; when I can say that I have met my original goals when I started working with this firmware approx 2 weeks ago. Customizable controls, savegames, no memory limitations save for the cost in performance. A slew of other features I couldn't help but implement along the way too. v0.5 is now live on m5burner.
https://preview.redd.it/ul7zf4clgr1d1.jpg?width=966&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=669a964444c786193574c950f09f39b20ad72145
I've spent the time avoiding the user interface work I finally did yesterday, instead optimizing the rendering and memory subsystem to get more than twice the performance of my last announced release(v0.48). Super Mario Land 2 and Donkey Kong Land show more than a 100% improvement in frame rates (17fps -> 53fps in the overworld for super mario land 2)
The next steps planned:
Audio
Save States
Some more options; custom palette, performance related things
debug w/ Pokemon, figure out why it restarts the firmware
about information screen crediting Matteo Forlani for concept implementation; any one else who ends up contributing.
And in the would be nice category:
Wifi link-cable; I doubt it would get much use but the hooks for it all appear to be present in peanut_gb.
Custom borders (I wont sacrifice ram for this, but I could stream it from the sdcard, it is not redrawn during normal gameplay)
Any other ideas? If there are any pixel artist out there, there is room in the ROM for a cardputer themed border and I'm more than willing to entertain submissions in that area as well, with full credit of course going to the author(s).
Changelog since I started:
20.05.2024:v0.5
* added bottom menu bar with instructions to the main rom selection menu, pres ESC or ' key (same thing) to enter the settings menu either from the main menu or while playing a game
* added options menu, can be entered from the menu or from within a game; displays the 8 main controls with their current setting, saves settings when closed
* added restore defaults for config menu
* settings are saved to gbconfig.dat; delete this if you are having any issues
19.05.2024:v0.492
* Reimplemented memory subsystem to use progressive partial page seeking/pruning; the original memory management code was the first I had typed in 14 years; after some thought I devised something much more suitable for a real time environment. This resulted in the average page seek time being much lower, and distributes maintenance of the paging system across successive calls. The results are the largest improvement to speed to date. Over double the frame rates from before; less stutter, smoother page transitions in memory. Donkey Kong Land averages around 45fps now; Super Mario land 2 gets an average 53fps on the overworld.
18.05.2024:v0.491
* Reduced rendering workload 6.25% by modifying peanut_gb to inherently skip lines that aren't visible due to scaling.
This prevents the engine from having to process the layer and sprite data for these lines all together. Why 6.25%? because 9 lines are skipped which is 6.25% of the lines that were rendered previously.
17.05.2024:v0.49
* Refactored graphics code; ~120,000 less operations a frame
* Scrolling behaviour and screen content differences no longer effect rendering performance Titles such as final fantasy or even super mario land 2 show a huge improvement in overworld movement speed.
17.05.2024: v0.483 Pushing this now as a BUG FIX RELEASE
* Fixed bug in main menu causing selection to only move upward; you can now navigate properly again.
* added FPS display while Fn button is held, causes slow down which is subtracted from the FPS display. This is so I can evaluate performance improvements more than anything else, but it doesn't hurt to have so I'm leaving it in.
* new borders are on hold while I make decisions about the internal format (leaning towards argb1555,presently 565)
16.05.2024: v0.482
* Added Analogue Pocket 12color palette category with 44 palettes
* Automatic 12color(AP) palettes mapped as per Analogue Pocket suggested mappings for:
Mario 1/2/Wario Land/Balloon Kid/F1 Race/Tetris
* added Cottage Daytime SGB border
* Fixed 12colours not being assigned until palette select bug
* regularly mapped controller up/down/a now functions in addition to arrow/enter keys in main menu to allow a single hand posture for the entire interface if desired.
15.05.2024: v0.481
* proper gameboy startup sequence, may help compatibility with some games.
* Message boxes now will display any emulation errors reported by peanut_gb
* Attempts to access ROM address outside of the available cartridge ROM will display an appropriate message
14.05.2024 v0.48 Added 12 colour mode, with the 12 palettes the game boy colour could apply to old game boy games as the first of this mode, but more to come in this area.
*Super gameboy support added for screen borders with gameboy skin set as default, followed by 1 (for now) of the official borders from the hardware itself. Activate by holding Fn and pressing '[' and cycle borders by holding Fn and pressing ']'. Because these are the same keys used for other visual modifications, I hope using the combination of Fn and these keys is intuitive.
* Super gameboy palette support added for balloon kid, the legend of zelda links awakening and kirbys pinball land
* Various other small tweaks you probably wont notice.
12.06.2025 V0.47 Added first iteration of Super Gameboy Mode with all 32 official palettes that were included with the original hardware. Nintendo included a table on the device to map certain games to certain palettes, and that functionality is partially implemented. Mario 1/2/Wario Land, F1 Racer and Tetris all autodetect and assign their colour scheme. This mode can be toggled on and off at any time during play with the '[' button, and the current cycle palette button will cycle through the 32 included palettes. Games with defined profiles with start with that palette selected automatically when Super Gameboy Mode is engaged for the first time each session.
*Lots of user interface changes; message boxes will appear to describe your palette selections, among other things - no console style debug remains in normal operation.
*Another 4k of memory allocated to ROM storage, may smooth out some edge cases of stuttering.
*Improved readability in the main menu; and made highlighted selection more apparent.
*Added smooth transitions to splash screen.
*Disabled unused (for the moment) configuration file
11,05.2024:: 0.44 squished a bug, added palette control, press ']' to cycle between presets.
b/w, gameboy(original), gameboy pocket and gameboy light (in that order).
Huge performance improvements for larger ROMs with over 110k more ram available to the memory sub-system. Palette values are from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_palettes for accuracy.
10.05.2024:: 0.41 added savegame support. if a game uses it's onboard ram constantly though, use the manual backup button (=). The save feature will only automatically engage after the cartridge ram has been left untouched for a second.
08.05.2024: v0.4 forked from gb_cardputer, added memory management subsystem (paging) to manage random access to roms of any size the filesystem supports.
Yellow bars on either side of the display momentarily indicate that the cartridge ram has been backed up. The savegame format will not be changing, its a simple binary dump.
Have fun!

2024.05.21 13:06 PatsyStonesBun Signs that your new Pre-Workout is working vs. not?

TL;DR - Here's what I'm asking

I'm brand new to pre-workouts and quite new to strength/resistance training. I'm curious to hear from those of you with much more experience, how you personally define a successful pre-workout ("this one is really working well for me") And, conversely, what signs do you look for to indicate that you need something stronger for your pre-workout? ("This one really isn't working out for me because I XXXX") Also, how long should you give yourself to get 'settled in' to the experience of taking a particular pre-workout before considering an alternative?

My background / workout regimen

I started weightlifting / resistance training three months ago. Working with a great trainer 4 days/wk. My trainer breaks down each day's strength/resistance training sessions into three groups of exercises. Each of the three groups has 3 separate exercises. Each exercise has 4 sets of between 10-15 reps. With 4 sessions a week, we hit legs, glutes, back, shoulders, triceps, biceps, chest and core. Each session ends with 10-15 minute high intensity conditioning session (quickly rotating between stations.)
I also do at least an hour of steady-state cardio, on my own time, 6-7 days a week and a yoga/mobility class once a week.
I'm also spending some time with a nutritionist to figure out my macros. I've estimated them, but I have free access to a registered dietitian, so I might as well make use of it!
I'm male. Early 40s. With the usual goal -- lose fat, gain muscle. I'm also a LADA diabetic, so healthy A1C / blood glucose is of course important.

My first ever pre-workout -- Bulk Black

This is my first week on pre-workout and I'm trying to take stock of how it's affecting energy and performance on my strength/resistance days. After doing a lot of reading on here and elsewhere (including super informative posts like this one from u/naderq), I decided to go with Transparent Labs' Bulk Black (with my own addition of agmatine, per nader's recommendation)

My post-workout

In case it's of interest, the post-workout I've decided to go with is MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Protein + added Glutamine powder

The reason I'm asking about evaluating your pre-workout

My first two days taking Bulk Black have been interesting. I consider my workouts very challenging. I really have to push to get those last sets completed. And, by the end of the 10-15 mins of the HIIT circuit training at the end, I am sweaty and out of breath. I've only had two sessions with Bulk Black so far, but both times, I didn't really notice anything different during my workouts. What I did notice was that my energy was much stronger post-workout. I wasn't limping to my car, but walking quickly. And I didn't feel like I needed to take a nap after. Which is great. Just not sure if I'm experiencing an impact during my workouts... yet. Note: while this may change as the months progress, right now, none of the weight / resistance exercise I'm doing are to exhaustion, they are a specific number of sets and reps which are all to be completed.

2024.05.21 13:00 ScarletMenaceOrange Kobo Libra 2 review (first e-reader)

After going totally nuts trying to decide between this and the colour version, I finally bit the bullet. I don't have other e-readers to compare to, but I did absorb huge amounts of info from Youtube videos, reviews, and comparisons.
Someone said that the BW screen is magical. I did not really believe it, but the first time I got the device, I tried to peel off the text from the device's screen, because I thought it has a sticker on it. Well, it was just text on the normal screen, it just magically looks like paper. The reason why I don't switch this to colour (even if the temptation is there) is exactly this, I don't want to give this magical paperlike screen away. It can be even read normally without any backlight, but you need some ambient lighting then, or to be at outdoors. Even then, you can get away with 4-8% backlight usage, which is very small. Biggest draw of the device for me was that it is easy for the eyes compared to LCD screens, so no way I'm ever giving that perk away. As I understand it, colour version has a dimmer screen that needs more backlight, which then makes it to be less "magically paperlike". I'm sorry, Libra colour, maybe some day when the technology has improved, or I can afford a companion device (or two 😂).
I got the Kobo plus free trial, definitely everyone should try it, as you can cancel it right after and still use the month, then continue if you feel like it. However, the plus collection is not that large, it was hard to find something that I know and enjoy from there. It was good for testing reading and manga capabilities though.
The wifi was a bit annoying, bouncing on and off. Also the normal home library view was not that good. I sorted my manga's in different folders, but the device did not seem to care about this. Also it wants you to check out the store and its over priced wares. For example, Made In Abyss one manga volume costs 10 dollars, while you can get a physical edition for of the same thing for 15 dollars. I just call it what it is, highway robbery. Luckily you can sideload the thing easily if you can get your books in other ways, so I'll be doing just that and saving a TON of money. The first day I got it, I read the whole day, and it would have costed me about 80 dollars in manga purchases alone.
So I installed Koreader, which made everything just better, if you take a bit of time to finetune it, as the default settings are not very nice. Also you need to install a dictionary, which is another ordeal to do and find one. After this, the device is just faster, it is a BIG difference while reading manga. The horribly expensive store is gone, good riddance I say! Wifi can be turned off eternally for all I care, more simplicity and no battery drain. Manga's and books can be sorted in libraries, and the device understands it! Custom screensaver is easy to get, ofc need to have that too, just for fun. Well now it starts to look like a great device, it seems that doing little bit of work really pays off. If I tried to use the device "as intended", I would have no money left, and would still be waiting for those absurdly large manga pages to turn (some which crashed the device). This is the way.
So yeah, it is a very good device. The screen autorotating feature is excellent, I find myself reading books on landscape mode, even if it is not the first instinct. Perfect use in outside sun with 0 backlight. The buttons are a must, I would not buy anything without side buttons at this point. Only wish it had a remote page turning, that would be the next step. You can mod for it, but that will be a hassle, and the current solutions are far from perfect. When people realize how comfy that would be, maybe in future the devices start to feature it. I guess it is hard to covet something that you do not know or have not experienced.
I was scared that the size is not good enough for manga, but it is. Emphasis on "good enough", it will do the job, and reading them is enjoyable, but a bigger screen would be optimal. Also when Kindle made a "manga version", it had this exact screen dimensions.
The screen, again, is immaculate in it's details. I'm enjoying too much how my wallpaper looks on it, it can be used as a tabletop photo frame, like a decoration! That will require buying a case for it, which I recommend, as when you close the case, the device goes to sleep automatically, and wakes up when you open the cover. That is very convenient, as is the ability to use the cover as a stand. I would just buy it for the screen protection alone.
