They may or may not be effective, I'm not sure as I ended up not using their services, but to me it felt like their sales/business practices were dishonest/ethically in the gray area, so I've decided to share my experience with my fellow Kansas Citians.
I had one of their sales reps turn up on my doorstep the other night. He claimed to be in the neighborhood giving an estimate to a neighbor's house, and since he was planning on coming back in a few days to treat the neighbor's, he would also gladly treat mine at a discount. He pointed out a small wasp nest on my front porch (honestly a smart sales tactic, although I'm sure they train their reps to look for nests when going door to door), so that put me in the mindset that I could use some pest control help.
He went through a quick spiel about a quarterly treatment plan, had me sign some things on his iPad, and went on his way. I went inside and started doing some research on the company. The more I thought about it and the more research I did, some red flags jumped out at me:

1. There are a bunch of reviews online of people saying they had a rep tell them the exact same thing my rep told me: That I was getting a discount because he was already nearby working on a neighbor's house. In hindsight, that was probably bullshit, but if it were true, it doesn't make sense from a business standpoint. Why would they give me a discount instead of my neighbor? If that were actually the case, then they would be shafting the customers that brought them to the neighborhood in the first place. My neighbor was the first guy to call them, so he doesn't get the $200 discount (if it were true that they actually were treating my neighbor).
   
2. It should have been a huge red flag when the rep had me sign a contract, but I didn't really think anything of it at the time. The contract locks you in for 2 years, and you have to pay a $200 cancellation fee if you want to stop service at any time outside of the 2 year period. Luckily, there is a law in most states requiring door to door sales contracts to have a 3 day cancellation period, during which I could cancel services without being charged anything. I actually found an article saying that they were required to add the 3 day cancellation section into their contract by the Michigan Attorney General (not sure if MO/KS has the same law, but that section was still in my contract). Also, this 3 day cancellation period was never mentioned to me, I had to find it myself when I went through the contract later.
   
3. I quickly decided that I didn't want to be locked into a 2 year pest control contract because I made a snap decision based on a small wasp nest that I could easily remove myself, so I went about attempting to take advantage of the 3 day cancellation period. But you can't cancel any services using their website. I ended up calling their customer service line the first thing the next morning to cancel, and the customer service rep says that it's company policy to transfer me to the sales rep before I cancel. So I have to talk to the sales rep again, and he offers me an even more discounted rate (confirming that he wasn't trying to get me the best value in the first place. Not surprised though), but he eventually cancelled the service. Just to be safe, I removed all info from my online account prior to cancelling.
   

So, it seems like EcoShield's sales strategy is to go door to door in a neighborhood, claim to already be there for a neighbor, which is meant to build trust. They then offer you a discount that I guess your poor neighbor isn't getting, and push you through until you've signed a contract locking you into 2 years of pest control service, which requires you to pay $200 to cancel if you don't cancel within 3 days. Then in order to cancel, you have to call customer service during business hours and haggle with the sales rep once again.
To me this seems rather dishonest and a little slimy. I did not enjoy dealing with this company, so my hope is that if any of you guys run into EcoShield in the wild, you'll know more about them as a company than I did, and that you won't have to deal with the same headaches that I had to.
(Also kind of ironic that a company claiming to eradicate pests is sending out door to door salesmen)

I’m 23F and I started working on a farm about a week ago. Most of my job experience in the past has been on farms/ranches. I have four coworkers here, two guys and two other girls, and we all are undergrads at the local university. I have always had a difficult time fitting in. I know that I’m a little socially awkward, and have been described as “uncanny valley”. However, I am also pretty and go for the “Barbie” look. I feel that this combo catches people off guard and makes them uncomfortable. So I put a lot of conscious effort into being very polite and friendly and not weird, and I am pretty good at small talk. One of my coworkers is my good friend and started at about the same time as me. He does not experience the same issues at our job that I do. No one at work seems to like me, while they took to him very quickly. On my first day, I got put with the two other girls. After we did a couple of chores, they drove the work vehicle around and parked behind different barns and scrolled on their phones for the rest of the day. I do not like getting in trouble, so this made me a little anxious because it felt like we should be doing something, but I just went with the flow. The next day was when things took a turn. I was leaving to get breakfast and asked the guys if they wanted anything (the girls had already left). I brought them back the food they requested and they never ate it. I don’t have a lot of money so it kind of stung but I let it slide without mentioning it. We were having a work lunch, and I was put in charge of a side dish. I started prepping it and the girls walked in and made a snarky comment telling me that I was doing it wrong (I was literally just cutting vegetables) and then snickered amongst themselves. I had never seen it made a different way but I thought maybe I was wrong so I googled recipes and they all looked like how I did it. Once they started putting things together, they told me we wouldn’t have enough of an ingredient because I made the side dish wrong. I immediately went into people-pleasing mode and said I’d go back to the store and get more. When I got back, they were sitting in the office and just stared at me when I set it on the counter, and they didn’t even end up using the extra. At this point I’d spent ~50 bucks on food. I tried to just act normal and friendly but everyone was kind of ignoring me and I felt awkward so I just went off by myself and didn’t eat. I tried not to make a big deal about it or act like I was in a bad mood, I just said “I’m fine, thank you though!” when my manager poked his head out to ask if I was eating. I kind of realized at that point that these girls probably didn’t like me, but I wasn’t sure of everyone else. Since then, I feel like the two girls I work with hate my guts, and the other guy just doesn’t care. These are a few things that have happened so far -we were moving some cattle. One of the girls and I were standing at one end of the alley where our boss told us to go. I guess she wanted to go help everyone else or something, but she told me to give her my flag. I didn’t really want to so I kind of just stood there and didn’t say anything. She grabbed it out of my hand. They were wild cattle to begin with but one calf was giving us some trouble and kept getting past us and running into the pen. At one point it ran past one of the guys and he just grabbed it and started trying to walk it out of the pen, which was pretty hilarious. Him and the other guy had a good hold of him, so I walked over to take a little video. When the girl saw me coming, she ran over to the calf and grabbed it and snapped at me “Can you help us instead of taking a video!?” I genuinely didn’t feel like it would take four people to hold a calf and by that point they were basically out of the pen and closing the gate anyways. Regardless, her condescending comment in front of everyone made me feel really embarrassed and I apologized. -After that, we went to do some chores. Everyone except her got out of the vehicle to work and she stayed sitting in there and played on her phone. -all of my coworkers speak Spanish but I don’t speak it very well. I feel left out when we’re all in a group but they only speak Spanish so I can’t join in the conversation -my boss has been showing me how to run the tractors and such. Every time he’s teaching me, the girls drive up and watch from their vehicle and I can see them laughing. They’ve been here several months now though and neither of them have learned to operate equipment so idk -I am not working with the girls so much now because my boss has been having the more experienced guy show me stuff. He is very monotone with me but I think that’s just his personality. Except I do see him talking and laughing with the other girls but I guess he knows them better. I tried to be friendly with him but he didn’t bite. -When I do work with the girls, if I ask for clarification on something, they just go “Um…giggle.” Or roll their eyes and sigh -Today, all five of us were in the shop. We needed to go tend to something. I was trying to get into the vehicle (they could see me, it was an open side by side) and they backed up and drove away. It was too far to walk so I just sat there, waiting. -They never came back. It turned out that they were all hanging out elsewhere until work was done. When that time rolled around, I wanted to check that everything was in order and I was good to go. No one ever came back to where I was and everyone had gone home without saying anything. -Every time I walk up to join the conversation, they all show negative body language: turning their backs to me, not making eye contact, etc. -I generally just feel like I’m not in the loop. They never really tell me what we’re doing or they just start walking off without me. Everyone else seems to know what’s going on, including the other new person.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me. My boss seems to like me fine and I often ride around with him and help him do stuff. The owner of the cattle we’re feeding came up to introduce himself to me and we had a nice chat. My professors are fond of me. My landlord, who I work for also, says she appreciates my help and she’s glad she has someone responsible around. I don’t understand why people in my age group don’t like me. I used to work at Hooter’s and it was a very similar vibe, I quit because my coworkers just couldn’t stand me. Am I doing something wrong? I know I shouldn’t worry about what other people thing, but deep down I am still a lonely little girl who just wants to be liked and have friends. I grew up in a very rural area without a lot of other kids around, and I’ve always felt like an outsider in friend groups. Sorry everyone for the rant. I just feel very alone in the world at the moment. I’m older than the average college freshman and don’t really relate to most people at school, I don’t see my parents much, and I live alone. I love my job but it’s mentally exhausting trying to get my coworkers to not hate me. They don’t have to like me, but people acting like I’m stupid and actively excluding me hurts my feelings. It’s like everyone can tell that there’s something off or weird about me but I don’t know what. I can do my job perfectly fine but the social interactions are incredibly difficult.
I am not a pick me or a kiss ass or anything like that. I just want to get along with everybody and I genuinely like working hard and helping.

My memory is very vague on this, it was a funny video and there was a scene where Gillian Andersons character in SC was talking about flying Jpegs (ships) being real, and then it cuts to the ships flying outside past her window, I think one might have been a potato Jpeg as a ship.
I hope this was not a wild fever dream.

This is probably crazy but lately I have been feeling like I am in the early stages of an epic life and incredibly fulfilling career that will impact so many people way beyond just the ones I currently know. I feel so confident that I will have a huge impact and help many people. This has been very strange to me as I have always been the queen of self-doubt. Y'all it's wild, I have never been one to have a lot of clarity or confidence in general on most things but this I am so sure of.
Is this what people mean when they say they had a calling ? is this what they feel? a sense of calm, clarity and certainty. I just want to make sure this isn't some kind of delusion or psychosis lol. At least I hope not. I need to mention I have been doing some inner work, self-reflection, journaling.

I think most of the characters employ lots of sass in their communication style, but there are the ones who still make it fun and witty and others who completely overdo it and end up much more annoying than funny.
I think the best example of likable sass is Dustin. He is obviously super intelligent, and uses lots of irony, but doesn't let it be his whole personality.
Next up is Max, she can be annoying but it works pretty good overall with her tomboyish, cool girl vibe.
The bottom of the list in my opinion is the Sinclairs. Erica has some funny moments (especially spelling America without Erica), but the way she just shoots cynism at every opportunity can be very draining. Lucas on the other hand is not even funny like Erica is sometimes, he just usually comes across as extremely bitter, cynical and cold. It does improve a little bit over the show (he is insufferable in the first 2 seasons), but overall I think he kinda lacks humor that would compensate the sass.
Mike is a wild card, I don't know if it fits into the category of sass, but the way he screams at his mother all the time (I'M COMIIIIING) is always hilarious lol

So, I've been feeling really bored of a lot of the Pokemon showing up in events and raids lately. I really just want to save my coins up for Global Go Fest, since I love the Eeveelutions, and want to shiny hunt those in raids. I play for free though, so my only way to do that is coins. I know each area has a "cell" in the game or something right? and in that area, if it has a certain amount of stops, one has to be a gym. So why have the locations of the gyms be set like that? I know people vote for locations, but that doesn't really matter when after all these years, people play gyms just as toxic as when the game first came out. I'm a team Instinct player, and some days I get less than 20 coins, because team Mystic players still have no manners as a collective I guess, I spend a long while taking out their tanky Pokemon that have been in there for a full day, start walking away, and 5 mins later, they have reclaimed it. People with a gym right by their apartment building instantly knock me out whenever I take it even though they live there. One time someone in there even cheated, glitched out the gym, turned it white so I couldn't add Pokemon with the "gym currently being attacked" message, stayed like that until near midnight when of course it turned blue again!! The library has a gym and I've never ever seen it any colour other than blue and it's always full of 6 tanky mons that are berried up at all times. Why do players like this get full monopoly and a fixed gym location? It really makes gym control impossible for certain teams in certain areas. I really think to counter this gyms should randomly generate new Pokestop locations once a month or so. especially in more residential areas.
thoughts on this? I know Niantic probably won't change a core mechanic that has been there since launch but it's still nice to throw ideas around I suppose!

Lets say I bought 100 COIN in April 2023 (its long term by now) and I bought 120 more in December 2023 (still short term) so all together I have 220 COIN.
If i were to sell 100% of my COIN in one transaction today, on my tax report would it be technically two separate sales, one with short term hold and one with long?
alternatively
If today I were to sell 99 COIN from the total of 220, would it automatically be considered a long term sale? Or me buying more later negates my long term hold of 100 COIN and i need to wait for December to make it one total long term sale?

There’s been a few post recently with drivers stating they have good 1 lap pace but can’t get any consistency and lack race craft. One guy was professing to be doing times comparable with Pro licence drivers but was stuck around 2k IR
Now this isn’t aimed at those people necessarily cause I don’t know where they got their one lap pace from. They may have more midichlorians than Senna, but I doubt it and have my suspicions.
A big trend sim racing over the last few years is hotlapping. It seems a lot of people are starting out this way on games like F1. They get quick over one lap and think they can come to a platform like Iracing and dominate. They then frustrated cause whilst they can smash out 1 quick lap they can’t finish a race or deal with pressure.
Now, if you want to hotlap. Go for it. It’s a genuine endeavour and I guess it’s nice being on a leaderboard somewhere. However be aware it will have implications later on.
Just watching YouTube videos and copying alien drivers is doing you no favours
You are essentially acting like a chimpanze or small child copying a grown human peeling and eating a banana. .
These people who just watch other people’s videos and hotlap have done themselves a massive disservice in the long run cause they haven’t learnt how to drive a track fast themselves or any race craft such as how to take a corner off line fast. Where to brake when defending off line or when following closely behind someone.
They just want to copy other drivers videos like a western lowland gorilla watching and copying a primatologist do a basic jigsaw puzzle in front of them.
Really, the only thing you have achieved by hotlapping, like with the chimp and the banana analogy, is that you have opposable thumbs and a semi functional brain.
The chickens come home to roost for these people once they get out of mediocre lobbies and they start racing against people who know how to force them into a mistake, or force them to put their car on a part of track where they don’t want it to be. They cannot deal with it.
You have skipped the part where you can race against people at your level cause of your mentality thinking your 1 lap pace is everything.
If you’re 2K IR level Iracer with 6K IR pace you’re essentially like the great ape who can do a jigsaw puzzle in a lab but can’t interact with other chimps in the wild.
If you’re just starting out forget about hotlapping and race. By all means watch videos to learn lines etc. but take the time to learn tracks yourself. Learn defensive lines learn how you should drive the first lap of a race, learn how to make the car your racing wheel to wheel with make an error.
Understand what technique the driver you are watching is using and then try do a random track and apply those techniques yourself.
If you are fast, genuinely fast - it will come with enough time.

The many nations of the galaxy prided themselves on their colossal power. So did the Drö‘al, a species about 6m in height and about 70cm in width. One of the tallest species in the galaxy they were also known for their projects of mega-engineering building eccentric structures ranging from Dyson-swarmes too Spinning black hole generators, but most mind numbing were their fleets.
Made up of a apparently minuscule number of only 972 warships one would first assume their status as a galactic super power was only due to their mega-engineering capabilities and tide to them, economical power on the galaxies market, but that assumption would be wrong.
The vessels the Drö‘al built were hulking „Battleships“ more than capable of taking on one or if conditions were favorable two fleets and still being operational for the next engagement. These „Battleships“ were often dozens of miles long. Titans made up of imposing plasma batteries, advanced particle accelerators and deadly railguns plastered on every available square inch of hull. All weapons systems more than enough to easily flatten mountains from orbit and if fully let loose shatter the crust of planets and make them become uninhabitable. Adding to their offensive capabilities was the fact that the Drö‘al „Battleships“ had thick hull plaiting at its slimmest points about 70 feet and at most up too 120 feet in width.
These facts made the Drö‘al „Battleships“ a death sentence for anyone unlucky enough to go against and secured the Drö‘al‘s place in the hierarchy of the galaxy.
As a display of this power, but also to further relations between every civilization and Drö‘al government. The latter held a competition wherein each nation were to design one space ship of their technological capabilities to go against every other nation‘s ship in all out battle. With everyone fighting for themselves.
It was a holographic simulation, that took place in realtime where nations could express their naval and engineering power to their own people, to bolster morale, as well as garner the respect of fellow nation states.
This competition had been held over 58 times now and was a spectacle each cycle to behold. The ships, that took part in the simulation were controlled by a naval crew made to control the ship in a simulated star system of random choice.
With it being an even battle between the Drö‘al and other three other galactic super powers. The Kelron, Winlo and lastly the Zup.
Though having won the last competition the cycle before the naval and engineering team of the Drö‘al was determined to achieve victory this time as well having built on their current „Battleship“ design and equipping it with a new amour and upgraded weapons systems, that would even rival a super nova.
It was then to no surprise of their own, that the Drö‘al managed to at times easily hold their own in the simulation with the Zups „Scuirk“(Moon Cracker) being their closest competitor up until the last battle against an upstart faction called „The United Human Nations“.
The „humans“ had built a small unassuming raven black ship. Having no apparent weapons systems and all in all taken as a joke by the other competitors. So it came as a surprise too everyone, that it had survived the simulated battle for so long. More so when the Drö‘al „Battleship“ started to loose amour integrity which became invisible black dust.
First at an unnoticeable rate as it tried to locate and evaporate the human ant, that had hid in the chaos of battle.
Then the longer the Drö‘al searched for the Human „Dropship“ the faster the depletion of their amour went by. Exponentially eating up the thick amour of their metal titan.
This made the Drö‘al naval personal in control of their ship panic as they fired on everything which remotely looked like the human „Dropship“ radar signal, but all they hit was dust and echoes.
Thinking they were being destroyed by some type of infrared laser deployed by the human vessel they searched the entire spectrum of the simulation up and down, but their sensors yielded no useful result. Nothing out of the ordinary.
The Drö‘al cursed human ship design while firing at all available targets in the simulated star system hoping they would eventually hit the fly buzzing around their eyes, but again no human ship was hit.
In their panic the Drö‘al naval did not fathom the true idea of what the human engineers had come up with while firing wildly until their ships total destruction as the amour integrity loss became hull loss until nothing was left im the simulation, but black dust.
Which ended up forming a small human „Dropship“ with the Name of „Size doesn‘t matter“ in bright white letters. A nanite swarmer ship and pride of the human navy.

I’m sort of caught in the gears of academic life, university is no joke, I tell you (sigh). Alongside my studies, I’m on personal quest too… trying to piece myself together, to heal and grow. It’s a little like wandering through a maze, gets quite lonely at times but hey, it’s all part of the journey (or so they tell me).
About me:
I’m a man of contrasts. I have a romantic soul, with a twist.
You might be curious about what exactly I mean. Imagine I'm returning home from a tough day at work, and you're there to let me unload all of that tension, whether by simply getting on your knees and giving a passionate... (readacted but ask if you're curious) ;) I’m interested in taking c*ntrol, but I also enjoy the idea of cooking you your favorite meal and taking you up as my passenger princess or simply cuddling as we binge our favorite tv show. This represents the fusion between the heartfelt romantic and the masculine side (with a playful streak) that is me.
Interests? I’ve got 'em:

We might not have all the answers to life’s big questions, but maybe we’ll figure out a few together.

The circumstances surrounding the 2021 draft are well documented, truly haphazard saga. There was some question if the draft was even going to occur. Or be rolled over etc.
At the time of the draft all teams had 60 total games on Wyatt to intake info from. 53 OHL in his D-1 as a 16 year old. 7 games at the u18 as a 17 year old. He was pretty average in both competitions. Medium scoring rates. Solid. What's more is D-1 has a lower correlation to success than D-Y.
Noone really knew too much about him. What's more is Dallas traded down then took him. If they thought he was fantastic they'd take him at 15 in such an extremely uncertain draft or trade down maybe just to 20. Performance fluctuates so heavily that someone can look amazing in 7 games in one tournament then turn out wildly different. Simply not reliablee. Just ask Toni Rajala who posted Bedard stats in his u18 and is Toni Rajala.
It's really odd from a franchise who has similar things happen with Benn and Klingberg, both unknowns taken mid draft.
Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz on the other hand is were counter examples. Lotsa credit due. Roope had similar scoring rates to Rantanen and Jrobs led his team in scoring by 30 points implying he was closer to a 100 point scoring true talent than 81.

Just a random list of thoughts that I would have found helpful or interesting before heading out!

1. Suica (or other IC card) on the Apple Wallet is a godsend. I preloaded with 2000 yen while I was in the US to make sure that my credit card would work with it.
2. Coins and a coin pouch were good but not as necessary as I thought. There were some places that they were much more useful in, such as during our day trip to Mashiko to buy street food.
3. Japan is not as strict as people make it seem. Locals at night are rowdy on the train and people have low conversations even during quieter times of day. I got the sense beforehand that if you make a peep you'll draw the ire of every person on the train, but that was never the case.
4. Bringing your own water bottle does not make sense. The mymizu app is available but the water is so spread out that it felt much easier to just buy the plastic bottles at the vending machines everywhere. A lot of the machines even take IC card, so you can keep your coins for other things.
5. Eating vegetarian is very challenging. My wife generally eats vegetarian and gets grossed out a little by fishy tastes, so we tried to use Happy Cow, but even that was hard. A lot of dishes that seems vegetarian aren't. Tamago sometimes has shrimp paste and inari is sometimes filled with squid. Google Lens only gets so far when the ingredient labels are obscured. Onigiri was our best option, but there's only so much rice one can have, so she branched out to pizza by the end. That being said, a few of the restaurants on Happy Cow were EXCELLENT. Vegan Gyoza Yu in Tokyo and Tofu Sorano Minami Senba in Osaka were highlights of our trip.
6. Walking is the absolute worst. No one consistently walks on one side of the sidewalk or the other, even in smaller towns where there are less tourists. Bikers also ride on the sidewalk and never use bells, so don't swerve while walking or you could be trampled.
7. Do the random stuff that might not be on the main itineraries. We skipped kinkaku-ji due to being templed-out in Kyoto, instead riding the Sagano Romantic Train and taking the Hozugawa River Boat experience. We went out of our way to go to Naoshima Art Island, which was well worth the detour! We went to a pottery fair in Mashiko which was 3 hours of trains one-way, and that was awesome.
8. Every hotel provided amenities, so if you want to save space, you can avoid bringing toothbrush/hair products/pajamas.
9. Restaurants generally opened later in the morning, even coffee shops (other than the chains), so if you're a breakfast person it's a little harder to get going early if you like to start your day with breakfast and good coffee. Japanese breakfast is a whole other thing and for reasons above we did not opt to eat them haha.
10. Using the Airalo app and buying data worked perfectly. With my unlocked Verizon iPhone, I turned off roaming data on my primary sim and was able to use iMessage and WhatsApp to communicate with everyone I needed to.
11. Navigating the metro can be difficult. Some stations not only have tens to hundreds of exits, but there are also different types of lines. For example, there might be JR lines and local lines in the same station, and there might be a local platform 2 and a JR platform 2, which is something to watch out for. The Google Maps directions often say which exit to go for, so you can try and spot that quickly when getting off the train. It also says which car is quickest for transferring, which could be helpful for a quick transfer.

I was cold, my feet hurt, and I felt even sicker than before. The boreal path stretched on for what seemed like an eternity, the pale sunlight having no effect on me due to the sense, misty fog. Every breath felt like ice, and I could see my breath in front of me, condensed and almost viscous.
I had been waking for at least an hour by now, following the path to wherever it led. This place couldn't be empty, right? There was a tomb built here, so that meant there had to be some kind of civilization nearby, or at least the remnants of it. Even if it was abandoned, I'd kill to have a roof over my head to sleep under.
I wanted to lay down and sleep, but I knew that if I didn't get warm soon I'd die of hypothermia, so I had to keep trudging on. Besides, I was in the deep wilderness, in this place that I knew nothing about, and I wasn't going to risk getting eaten by some wild animal, or worse.
So I trudged on. The sun rose further in the sky after what seemed like an eternity, and the fog cleared up a bit. Birds sang, trees rattled and shook from the wind, and the air became bearable. I still felt awful, but at least it wasn't frigid out anymore and I would feel better eventually. I wanted to sit down so badly, to find a way to start a fire and get some heat into my bones, but I kept going. I needed to keep going. I needed to know what the hell was going on, and I'd rather find some place to sleep that had a roof and even a bed if I was lucky.
I kept thinking while I walked, in an attempt to entertain myself over what seemed like an endless journey. Who was I? I didn't know who I was, or where I was from, or if I even had a name! All I knew is that I was in the body of this weird lizard… dragon… horned thing, and it felt all wrong. The forked tongue in my mouth felt too weird, I was taller than I thought I should have been, and I was definitely stronger than what a human should have been, if I was even a human before. I think that since I defaulted to assuming that my new strength was more than what a human would have instead of any other race, I must have been human before, right? What other races were there, anyway? What if there were only humans here and I was just a freak of nature?
What if I was the only person in this world? What if everything was gone? That couldn't be the case, right? That tomb implied there were people who had been alive at one point to build it. But they could all be dead now…
Okay, that was enough of me being alone with my thoughts. I decided that, if I was going to keep myself sane, I'd have to do something productive to distract myself from the implications of everything going on around me. It was time to consult the useless journal.
I pulled it out and opened it to the page where we had our last conversation, still irritated by how vague it could be. But I pushed that to the side as I pulled out the quill and began to concentrate as I wrote down a question. Where do I go?
Nothing happened for a moment, but eventually my hand moved on its own, scribbling down an answer in the same elegant cursive as before. Follow the path.
That isn't helpful. I wrote back, frustrated. There was another pause, then more furious scribbling.
You asked a question. I answered it. Be more specific next time.
You’re an asshole. I wrote down, snarling. This time, there was no response, nor was there any movement in my hand. The journal remained uncommunicative.
Why didn't you respond? I asked next, surprised that the journal had been silent. More scribbling followed.
I answer questions. Insults are not questions.
I became even angrier at that, knowing my words didn't really affect the journal. Why can't you be more helpful? I wrote down, just to see what the journal would say.
I am only truly helpful to those who are capable of helping themselves.
It took a moment for my emotions to register, but when they did they appeared as a burst of unbridled rage. With a draconic roar, I threw the journal at the closest tree, causing it to elicit a loud thwap as leather hit bark before it fell to the ground. I turned and stomped away, grumbling, just hoping to leave the journal there. Then I looked down and noticed it was in my hand again.
“Wha-” I began, before realizing that the journal was in perfect condition, not even a single scuff. I grit my teeth and slipped it back into my bag with a sigh before returning to my walk,hoping that I'd find something eventually.
After some time, I finally heard it: running water. That must have been a good thing, because villages were usually nestled along some kind of water source. Even if it was a small village, it must have been a safe place because people were living there, and there were enough people to keep the wilderness at bay.
I rushed up the hill and down the path towards the sound, avoiding tripping over roots and rocks before reaching my destination. The creek was a few yards wide and at least a yard deep, so nothing huge, but it was fresh water. I had nothing to store water in, but I had a skin of beer so I wasn't worried about that. What I was interested in was the dirt path beyond this point seemed less faded and more worn, as if it was used more often. Most exciting, however, was a signpost with a few pointed signs hanging from it. There were two, in fact, one pointing to the left of me and the other one forward still, crossing a beaten and rickety wooden bridge that spanned the creek. The sign that pointed left read Forsvolkvr, which was just utterly incomprehensible to me. The other sign has a simple carved framing around the edge, so it might've been a more important place, and it read Ljosavatnsskaro… who in the hell named a place Ljosavatnsskaro? I couldn't even pronounce that right.
Needless to say, I went with Forsvolkvr.
The path led further downhill, into a sparser woodland that seemed more welcoming, and in the distance I saw it: a tiny village of maybe a dozen long huts, with either clapboard or mudbrick walls and thatched roofs. They didn't have chimneys, but they did have little openings at the top that allowed smoke from hearths to escape. Some houses were a bit bigger than others, but all of them were no bigger than a single story tall. As I approached, I noticed that there were people, honest to God people. Humans walked about, wearing pretty ragged clothes but still people nonetheless! I didn't think I had ever been so excited to see another person before, but then I remembered that I didn't actually remember a time before, so that didn't really mean much.
Most of the people I saw from a distance seemed to wear old, stained, and patched clothes: leather trousers stitched together along with long wool shirts and not much else. Some wore hats or pelt cloaks, and all of the men had thick beards, but most seemed to be exceptionally poor. Along with a few barren fields, there were little more than a few sheep and some chickens roaming the stumpy hills and knolls, so beyond the bounty creek I didn't know how this village even sustained itself.
As I approached the entrance of the village, which was a rickety little gate with a sign that simply read Forsvolkvr, people began to notice me, and I could immediately tell that it wouldn't be a positive reception. The adults pushed children into their homes, some picked up hatchets, and a few more had weapons of their own, mostly simple spears and rounded shields painted all sorts of colors with runic designs. One man came riding up on a horse, sword drawn and chainmail gleaming in the sunlight. “Halt, dragon-spawn, how dare you approach this village.” He was a younger man, maybe in his mid to late twenties, with a short beard, baby blue eyes, and golden blonde hair. He wore similar clothes to those around him, albeit a little less dirty and worn, and had a bear fur mantle on his neck, along with a silver circlet with a single ruby in the center that seemed to serve as a lowly crown. “Your kind are not welcome here!”
Great, so I was a freak of nature. I was hoping I was simply just another race in this world, but I suppose I couldn't be that lucky, now could I?
“I'm just looking for a place to rest,” I shouted back, lowering my sword to appear less intimidating. “I simply want to know if you have a place for me to stay: I'm willing to pay.”
“Are you deaf, dragon spawn?” He shouted as he forced his horse to halt, “Get out or I'll slit open your belly and expose your guts to the crows!”
Well, that wasn't good. I was exhausted and ill, but not so much that I was eager to take a dirt nap. And even if I was in peak condition, I was sure I couldn't take on this entire village nor did I want to since massacring otherwise innocent people probably wouldn't be a great start to whatever mess I had gotten myself into. And I wasn’t exactly a master swordsman to begin with. Even though I defeated those undead, it still felt awkward to swing a sword. I was definitely a bit desensitized to violence, but not some kind of warrior. Having a sword doesn't make me a warrior.
I decided to cut my losses and head for Ljosavatnsskaro instead, since maybe the people there wouldn't want to kill me for having scales. But then the crowd began to spread out, making way for a lone figure, hunched over and wrapped in a dusty brown cloak, using a gnarled branch as a walking cane as he pushed himself forward. The crowd’s ire transformed into anxious murmurs as the man passed, not even sparing them a glance. The only one he looked at was the man on a horse, who's face became pale as milk when their eyes met, and when the ringleader was thoroughly cowed, so was the rest of the mob.
“Gone, back to your workings ye shall be,” he rasped, his voice like sandpaper on glass, “begone and allow me to see where others cannot.” As he hobbled past the horseman he waved his hand, sending the mob hurrying away and back to their daily lives, as if I had never appeared.
“Gothi Øbyiorn, you cannot intervene, this thing is an intruder!” the horseman shouted.
“This thing is a person with a name,” the old man said, who's name was apparently Gothi, “And he has humbly requested your patronage. You dare violate the laws of hospitality? Shame on you for insulting the gods so.”
“By the Stormcaster, he's a dragon-spawn! He'll bring damnation down on us all from above! The Stormcaster shall smite us for harboring him!”
Gothi merely shook his gnarled walking branch irritably and gave the horseman an ugly look. “Thorfast Iogæirsson! If you had paid any attention to my lessons when you were a child you'd know that the Stormcaster’s own brother was the father of dragons! They felled the Lord of giants together! Have you no shame in taking his name in vain?”
The horseman, Thorfast, seemed to blush from embarrassment and indignation at that. “Rhörldir betrayed his brother for the skythrone!”
“And then Inir forgave him after humbling him in battle with his spear, and Rhörldir stood by his side ever since,” Gothi spoke, “Yes, some dragons may be wicked and cling to godly grudges, but this young dragon-kin,” he put emphasis on the word kin as if spawn was some kind of slur, “has humbly requested shelter, and even offered to compensate, and you, as Høbding, should be the first to honor the rules of hospitality. Do not shame your late father with your foolishness by being so brash and bigoted towards those who seek you no harm, especially when your father's very own thane himself was of the dragon-kin.”
The horseman, Thorfast, seemed enraged at first, but something about the elderly hunchback seemed to inject some sense in him, because he sighed with disgust and inserted his blade back into his scabbard. “Come, Dragon-kin,” he spoke, as if the words were being forced from him at gunpoint, “I shall find you the accommodations you seek, but he warned: disrupt my village in any way and I'll impale you on a spike in front of my home.”

Since I was about 28 all I wanted was to get married and have a baby. I wanted it so badly. More than anything. Just seeing babies I would feel that deep yearning. Baby fever I suppose. I couldn’t wait to nurture my kids and relive the good parts of childhood. Watch them grow with my husband as a team.
Then I fell for someone who is a fence sitter leaning STRONGLY no. If I had known this (I thought we were on the same page..we discussed it early on..but things changed..) I probably wouldn’t have dated him. We’ve been together 2 years and I am contemplating ending it now which of course is just depressing and crushing.
I’m 36 now, and I froze my eggs THREE times when I was 35 to give myself a decent chance of a baby or two from those eggs. I just knew if I was investing in that I had to get to a good “number” so I had no regrets one day.
The problem is, I think my boyfriend’s negativity and ambivalence rubbed off on me. I see so many painful and negative situations with kids and no longer have the rose colored glasses. Dealing with my niece and nephew when they cry is exhausting and not fun. But as a person, I am patient, nurturing, and have dealt with so many situations other people could not, I used to be a nurse in a children’s hospital and I loved my job. I’m used to taking care of sick children and it never deterred me before. I still had joy with kids and wanted my own.
Thinking of my kid growing up and struggling in school, having a mental health issue, a car accident or just being a jerk to me depresses me. Maybe it’s not worth it. Thinking of them becoming an adult and us possibly not being close depresses me. Maybe it’s just all over-rated. Thinking of never having a kid and growing old without loved ones around depresses me. It’s probably my worst fear. Thinking of never sharing the joy of my child with my aging parents in their final years depresses me. Thinking of leaving my boyfriend to have a baby with some hypothetical other man or a sperm donor depresses me. Thinking of staying with my boyfriend and never having kids depresses me. I guess if you’re reading this, do everything in your power not to end up in my situation. I know his ambivalence has influenced me, but I can’t help but think about both sides of the coin and feel like I don’t know what to do with my life anymore.

I’ve been getting some strange readings recently after losing 20-30lbs (41 yo 6’ 200lbs currently) despite always being between 110-120 over 70-80. Went to new doctor late last year and got a crazy high reading. They retook it manually and it was fine.
Went to another doctor for some tests and they took bp… again super elevated like 168/80. They didn’t even mention it to me and only found out later through my online chart.
So I see this second one and go buy a blood pressure monitoring kit.
Long and short of it is that I get wildly different readings depending on how tight the cuff is. I’ve been researching this and in general the consensus seems to be that tighter cuff creates abnormally high readings while looser cuffs are lower. For me it’s the exact opposite.
My readings are ranging from under 120 with what I believe is the correct fit (tighter but not constricting, two fingers under etc.) vs the looser fit which is how I feel like most nurses will fit the cuff in a clinical setting reading as high as 168. Diastolic doesn’t move at all hardly … 78-80 in any case.
