2024.05.21 18:57 cazort2 Just Discovered Chickpea Flour (Besan) - High-Protein, Cheap, and Surprisingly Easy To Bake With

I've been baking with "weird" alternate (non-wheat) flours for a long time now, but somehow I managed to avoid trying chickpea flour until now. I immediately wish I had discovered it earlier.
It is very easy to bake with. It behaves similarly to some of the easier-to-bake-with gluten free flours, such as oat, teff, quinoa, or amaranth. It is much easier to work with than the "weird" ones such as buckwheat, almond, or coconut, which require major adjustments to recipes or creating totally new things around the flour. I subbed it 1 for 1 for oat flour in a muffin recipe, using about half chickpea flour and the rest a blend of almond and barley, and it came out really well.
Nutritionally, chickpea flour is a powerhouse. According to the USDA data it has 5.25g of protein per 1/4 cup. Oddly, it has a lot of sugar in it, but also a lot of fiber. Micronutrient-wise it is extraordinarily high in folate and also a good source of B1 and B6., with some B2, B3, B5, and vitamins E and K. Mineral-wise it is even better, with very high amounts of Magnesium, Iron, and Zinc, and more Potassium and Selenium that is typical for flours. So it seems to be useful nutritionally both because of being nutrient-dense overall, but having a somewhat different nutritional profile than the typical grain-based flours.
The protein situation with chickpea flour is perhaps better than the raw quantity suggests, because most people with a Western diet consume a lot of grains, especially wheat, but also to a large degree corn and rice, and the amino acid blend is complementary to all of these grains.
On top of all of these things, it's cheap. High-end brands sell it for about $3 a pound, but if you go to Indian stores you can buy it in larger quantities more cheaply, where it is called "Besan".
Does anyone else here use chickpea flour? I am interested in discovering new uses for it. I know it is used in some Indian desserts as well as some flatbreads like papadam. Like there is a food from France and Northern Italy called Socca. I'm curious what else it would work with. It seems like it might be good in pancakes.

Pyridoxamine-5'-phosphate oxidase (PNPO) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by impaired metabolism of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP), a crucial form of vitamin B6 essential for the function of various enzymes in the body. This deficiency manifests as a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-responsive epileptic encephalopathy, with refractory seizures emerging typically within the first year of life. Prematurity, fetal distress, and neonatal seizures are commonly associated features. The phenotype of PNPO deficiency encompasses a spectrum of seizure types, with approximately 90% of affected individuals experiencing "classic" onset, marked by seizures in the neonatal period, and the remaining 10% exhibiting "late onset" seizures. Seizures, including status epilepticus, often commence within the first day of life in classic cases and before two weeks of age in the majority of instances. Despite variations in onset time, seizures typically exhibit resistance to conventional antiepileptic medications. Lifelong treatment with B6 vitamers, primarily pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) in 60% of cases and pyridoxine (PN) in 40%, yields partial seizure control. Developmental impairment, affecting speech, cognition, and behavior, is present in around 60% of individuals with PNPO deficiency. Some may also exhibit neurological deficits such as muscular hypotonia or dystonia. Severe neurodevelopmental impairment is more prevalent in cases with delayed diagnosis and prolonged periods of uncontrolled seizures. Pharmacological management involves oral administration of PLP or PN, with PLP typically divided into 4-6 daily doses and PN into 3-4 doses. Careful titration is essential to avoid potential liver toxicity with PLP and sensory or motor neuropathy with PN, which is usually reversible upon dose reduction.

2024.05.21 12:32 InSearchOfGreenLight I found something potentially useful in a nutrition for the mind book

My post didnt get posted so I figured I’d just write it out. (It was an image)
For tardive dyskinesia,
Here’s the passage:
“Supplementing GLA, usually from evening primrose oil, has proven effective in a wide variety of mental health problems. Numerous studies have shown that schizophrenics have low levels of omega-6 fats. A large-scale placebo-controlled trial using evening primrose oil showed significant improvement in this debilitating condition. However, results became even more spectacular when vitamins B6, zinc, niacin, and Vitamin C were added, all of which are needed by the body to turn essential fats, both omega-3 and 6, into prostaglandins. This produced marked improvements in memory, the symptoms of schizophrenia and also tardive dyskinesia, a side effect of some medications for psychiatric disorders. “

2024.05.21 01:32 Health_supplments B12 acne solution (after supplements or injection) biotin caused acne [acne]

The answer is biotin.
You might be surprised to know this but it's biotin that needed for b12 acne, and biotin also cause acne be aware of that.
So it's all start with me taking b12 injection for my peripheral neuropathy (Its a big story how I got neuropathy ) 1st one was fine and reduced my neuropathy to some amount, then took 2nd and 3rd and I got pimples on my face and hair became thin and lost its texture and got sore throat, so I went to my Doctor who referred me for b12 and he said no it won't happen it make skin healthy won't cause pimples, it might be your skin care he said.
But iam sure about it that b12 caused me pimples cause I don't have any before,so then I searched on Google and YouTube found many who have same problem.
Now after so much research, I dwelt into biochemistry and found about TCA CYCLE(KREB CYCLE) metabolic pathway of organisms to produce cellular energy.
SO WHY BIOTIN:- B12 biochemical pathway demand for biotin, what b12 does is it converts enzyme called methyl malonylcoa to succinylcoa(needed in TCA cycle), so if you supply b12 to your body it do its job, b12 job is conversion of b12 dependent enzymes, so in the conversion of enzymes it consume it's cofactors.
b12 depletes all methyl malonylcoa so you need methyl malonylcoa, you get methyl malonylcoa from converting propionylcoa by using biotin as cofactor, you depletes biotin in this process but how much too little NOT MORE THAN 1MG.
1mg = 1000mcg mg milligrams, mcg micrograms
How I found it After I got b12 acne i waited many days to see improvements in it i waited 3 months dint take any b12 by food or suppliment avoiding food that contains it. Ofcourse I seen some improvements like lesser acne little much improvement in hair but right after taking 10 mcg b12 after 3 months, next day was hell as I got many pimples and hair became thin. Then after long reasearch next 3 months I iam into many remedies but non work then my interest in this biochemistry began, after 6months found its biotin took like 260 mcg of biotin and right next day my hair became too good and skin became healthy, now I am happy that I found something interesting.
But after some days out of curiosity I took b12 500 mcg, next day same problem hair looks it has no life (hair is important clue in it, because I can see effect on hair in a day but pimples took 3 days to disappear).
Then I took biotin 260 mcg for five day all combine 1300 mcg(1.3 mg)and stopped, cause my pimples are gone hair was too good, And next day for curiosity I took b12 injection 1500 mcg and all good no effect on skin or hair, before that I used to react with pimples and thin hair now all good it goes like this for 1yr with out any problems.
Then as my neuropathy was not completely gone so I decided to increase b12 injection count as iam taking one for 3 month now I took daily one for 5 days all my self my skin and hair has no effect all good but no improvement in neuropathy so I took a break for 2 weeks.
After two weeks for safety I want to take biotin as it has no side effects after all its a b vitamin all b vitamins are water solubles, so I bought 5 mg biotin tablets and took one that day , next day I got pimples on my face, hair lost its texture now here is a surprise for me biotin also cause acne for people 😐.
Biotin acne :- But iam not sad cause I know some stuff about biochemistry so i reasearched biochemical pathways of biotin and tried all b vitamins in heavy doses (b1 in form of benfotiamine, b2, b3, b5, b6, b9) and took all fat soluble vitamins A,D,C,E,K none helped me.
NOTE :- Don't take biotin more than 1 or 2 mg. And for some people it might be any other b vitamin, so I recommend take b complex that have biotin.
Tried all none helps you in biotin acne it's been a year for me,But I have lots of knowledge about this, if anybody there sufferin from biotin acne message me as i need to find some answers, definitely I have good knowledge about it as I can help you and myself in it🙂.
Share this message to the people who need help for b12 caused acne, i know there are many people it will definitely helpfull.

38yo w/ 317 total test…natural solutions?
I’m looking at TRT as a possible solution to my low T issues. But first, I want to try some natural solutions first to see if that helps any.
I already have a good diet, I’m not overweight (6-2 and 175-180lbs), and I run 5-6 days per week with a daily stretching and bodyweight circuit to strengthen my core. I also work outside in the sun and get 10-12k steps per day at work as well.
The one area I can improve in, and am currently doing so in, is sleep. My average during the week would likely be around 6:15-7hrs per night, depending on if I’m running before work or not…which I usually am. 7-7:30 per night on the weekend. Would getting consistently more sleep really make that big of a difference?
Lastly, after getting some more baseline bloodwork done in 4 days, I’m going to try to use this supplement to try to increase my T naturally before going starting to TRT.
My initial 317 count was from an at-home test from the EverlyWell app, and all it gave me was total T. The bloodwork I’m getting done in 4 days will tell me everything I need to know for my baseline.
Sorry for the novel, thanks for any and all opinions.

For the lightweights like me, try V8 Energy.
Decided to grab one of these while in Family Dollar. Never had one before. 50% Juice. 80mg Caffeine. 11g Sugar. Tea based energy source. Non carbonated.
Not going to lie though, this flavor didn't really taste good.

2024.05.20 22:24 StillAd2922 Has my dentist harmed me ?

Around January 24 I went for a wisdom tooth extraction.
During the anesthesia, after the injection went into my lower gum, all my nerves around felt like they were being lit on fire. I reflexively shook a bit at the sudden pain from the plunger being pushed and my dentist just held on to my face and told me to relax and not move.
It still feels like that intermittently if i touch the lower part of my jaw. If I rub the area to the left of my chin bone, I can feel slight pain, tingling and numbness radiate all the way to the old tooth site where the extraction had been done and to the left side of my lower lip.
When I met the dentist again 14 days ago on the 6th of May, she took out some X-Rays and told me everything looked find and nothing happened to the 'nerve bed' and gave me:
This did not help at all. I still have the same issues. Did she cause some sort of irreparable damage to me that she is being secretive about because of fear of action?
