2024.05.21 18:59 Odd-Application1348 Served Notice To Vacate Property

I’m in England.
Landlady served a 14 day notice to vacate in a handwritten letter signed by her because she wants her property back. The contract is an AST and it ended on the 31st of March.
I am wondering what the next steps I need to make to legally vacate the property, not sure if it’s relevant but there are children under 5 living here as well. Thanks.

2024.05.21 18:59 yellowsubzero Skilled worker visa renewal

Hello, Maybe these are dumb questions, but I could not find clear information in the official websites. I need to renew my skilled worker visa (it will be a short renovation of 3 months for the exactly same work in a University where I am a researcher).
1) Is the expiry date of my visa the same as the BRP? My actual entrance visa (stamp in the passport) expired quite shortly after I entered the country two years ago. But my BRP says October 15th, although my current job contract goes until September 30th.
2) I need to go to Madrid for an important conference (for work), so I can apply only when I am back on 29th of July. Is it enough (78 days)? In case it takes longer, can I keep working while I wait for the answer or will I need to stop working after October 15th? I suppose I cannot apply before Madrid, even if it is work, right?
Thank you!

2024.05.21 18:57 acrosstwouniverse Aging parents, older sibling mismanaging their financial situation, Southern California.

My retired parents are aging, they are in the late 60s, with no savings, and rely solely on their social security income to live.
They own their home (that was built by my dad in the 80s) and have very little left to pay it off, less than 100k (they had to do a reverse mortgage in the early 2000s, followed by bankruptcy due to the expense of my mother's cancer treatments at the time).
A few years ago, my oldest brother decided to build a home on my parents property (at his own expense) to move closer to them and help out with their expenses. My parents agreed thinking this was meant to help them. This has come back to bite them.
My brother's home addition caused a reassessment of their home value to double what it was before, effectively raising their annual property taxes. Since about 2018, my oldest brother has paid a bulk of their mortgage and property taxes.
This changed during last year. 2 things happened:
  1. My other brother (younger) and his wife and 2 young children needed to suddenly move back in with my parents (due to financial hardship), with their approval. This other brother pays a set amount each month to go towards my parents mortgage and other expenses.
  2. In November 2023, my oldest brother's wife lost her job, right before my parents taxes were due.
My oldest brother (seemingly threatened by my younger brother contributing to my parents household expenses and feeling the loss of his wife's job), immediately demanded that my parents grant him power of attorney, and sign away all of their assets to him otherwise, he would no longer pay a cent for anything (mortgage, taxes, utilities) that they all share. Based on what I am told, he got verbally aggressive towards them, and questioned their mental health during this ordeal. They refused to sign.
At this time my younger brother recieved his year end bonus, and contributed nearly his whole check to pay down their property taxes that were due, which still did not cover it in full, it is my understanding that my parents were unable to contribute. They are now on a paymemt plan, and their payments (now with impound), claim nearly 100% of their social security even with my younger brother's help.
Since then, my oldest brother has refused to pay for anything while he continues to live on my parents property, his wife has since found a new job after receiving unemployment.
My younger brother told me this week that my older brother was yelling at our father, due to our father painting my parents' house a color that my older brother did not like.
I want to help my parents get out of this situation, I cannot help financially or with housing (my husband and I live in a small home currently with 1 bd/1bath), and we're are currently in contract to purcahse our first home (a new construction home that will be completed in the fall, so all of our money is tied up there).
I feel the best course of action would be for my parents to sell their home and purcahse another one (cheaper and outright, to reduce their expenses). Currently, they are unable to afford their new assessed taxes on their own.
They have about $750k equity in their home, not including my brother's addition, roughtly another $400k-500k.
How do they go about this? They have very little credit, no savings, fixed income, and my brother's addition tied to their property.

2024.05.21 18:57 CholaPeroBonita Seeking Career Guidance and Support: 3+ Years on This SWE Journey

Hi, all! 👋

Intro/Question:

Let me just start out by saying that I’ve been on here for a little while and have admired not only the persistence, dedication, and grit of the women on here, but also the kindness and support in comparison to other groups. I wish I could give/get hugs from you all because a lot of you seem like such wonderful people, and I could really use some of that kindness in my life at the moment.
Now, I guess I’ll get right into my reason for posting this: I’d love some advice/insight/thoughts from y’all on recommendations for my next steps in this career transition towards software development because I’ve been struggling for awhile with finding a FT or even PT role.
Throughout this time, my mental health has also declined greatly (while on this journey, I’ve actually started antidepressant medication for the first time ever because my mental health has exponentially decreased, and have also seen a few different therapists in the same span of time).

VERY brief overview of my journey thus far:

Early Education: Growing up in a predominantly white community outside the main city, I was put into ESL classes despite being born in the U.S. I'm Latina, and my parents--who knew little English at the time--agreed with everything the educators suggested. This meant I was often taken out of critical science and math classes to make time for ESL work. Despite being a straight-A student, I had to work harder than others, and I believe this was one reason why.About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with combined ADD/ADHD. As a kid, it often took me longer to complete my work. My parents noticed but assumed it was just the way I functioned. My mom often recounted how I needed a "million" breaks while doing homework, which often led to late nights. Despite these struggles, I managed to stay on top of my studies.
Undergrad Education (2015 - 2019): I am a first-gen college grad and earned a bachelors in biochem & environmental science summer 2019. I discovered computer science during my junior year of college (by then, it was too late to take more courses in CS let alone attempt to make a switch without staying an extra year, which my scholarships would not cover). After graduating college, I was still interested in learning more about CS, so I took an Introduction to Programming in C course at my local community college, and not only earned an A, but also thoroughly enjoyed the content.
Grad School (Spring 2022): Enrolled in an online Masters in CS at Case Western Reserve University for those without CS degrees with a $30,000 grant from the dept. Took Discrete Mathematics and Algorithms & Data Structures in Java (those of us w/o a CS degree had to pass these before being able to move into the rest of the program where we’d be merged with those who DID have CS degrees), but paused due to my younger brother's unexpected passing.
Bootcamp (Fall 2022): Received a full-ride scholarship to a bootcamp (1/15 out of 1200 applicants accepted) where I learned full-stack development with Python, JavaScript, SQL, Flask, AJAX, and React, among other technologies. Graduated December 2022.
Further Learning (Spring/Summer 2023): Accepted into Code the Dream’s React course, dedicating over 20 hours per week to mastering React all while volunteering to work on open-source projects.
Internship (Fall 2023 - Present): I was interning at an early-stage Ed Tech startup up until the end of April, contributing to building an app from the ground up. I Gained experience in code writing/reviewing, CI/CD methodology, technical communication, and working on a software development team along with other teams like the content team and design team.

Struggles/Thoughts:

I have been consistently applying for FT/PT roles, internships, etc. with nothing but maybe 4 interviews since graduating from my bootcamp. In addition, I’ve been tweaking my resume for jobs that I feel I could be a particularly good candidate for using Jobscan with no luck.
With regards to the startup, they’ve informed me that they do not have sufficient funding to bring me on. Furthermore, about a month after the internship contract officially ended, the other female intern (graduated from the same bootcamp, although different cohorts) at the startup also let me know that she was being brought on again for an extended contract, and asked if I was offered the same—to which I replied that no, I wasn’t. I guess she also has an associates in CS, which also helps and I am not mad at her for anything and support her and uplift her, but as you can imagine, I am a little disappointed (more in myself than anything, I guess). It just makes me feel a bit crushed. I made myself always available (even after hours), replied quickly, got along super well with everyone, got my tasks all done for the most part. ==> Towards the end, I was tasked with a particularly difficult task, and was able to get through a good chunk of a new game, but was not able to fully finish. During this period, I was also struggling to get ahold of my ADHD meds, but they seemed to be out of stock everywhere, so that also didn't help.

Next steps:

I’m debating whether I should just keep applying, find some other program (AS/BS/MS), or just stop this trajectory altogether (although, I REALLY hope that I won’t have to because it would probably break me 😔).
I know that my math skills probably aren’t on par with those of others in the field, and I know that I need to work on those as well, so if you have any suggestions for free resources for that/what I should focus on with regards to teaching myself these concepts I’d also really appreciate it. I'm currently taking the Harvard CS50 course for credit as well as a Mathematics for Machine Learning course on Coursera (they state that this is for people of all math levels).
I’ve learned a lot and am passionate about continuing to grow as a software engineedeveloper. Any advice on next steps, opportunities, etc. that you feel may be relevant would be greatly appreciated. Thank you SO much if you read this far! 🫶

2024.05.21 18:56 lolly15703 Anyone transition into newborn care specialist or postpartum doula?

I’d love to hear how it went. I’m about to switch over into being a postpartum doula (not through a company) after my current nannying job ends and I’m wondering how contracts and job searches differ from finding a nanny family. Also down to hear from parents and their experiences finding one. TIA!

2024.05.21 18:56 The_Hype_Fantastic How to be engaging (again)?

35m, late diagnosed AuDHD a couple years ago and struggling to connect with and attract people the way I feel I used to be able to do in highschool/college where, in retrospect, I see that as I became more comfortable in a broader group of (frequently neurodivergent) people, I was able to unmask a good chunk of the time.
Cut to post college, my first office job and living alone for the first time led me to mask so much I spiralled into major depression and isolation. Since then I've been able to crawl back to better health largely through relentless effort and with the help of a handful of relationships.
One full-on-burn out resignation and shift into contracting for myself later, I finally feel in a position to be actively seeking new friendships and community opportunities in a way I didn't have the energy/capacity for over much of the last decade but it feels like I just do not interest people the way I feel I used to. I've frequently reflected on how much I took for granted in my earlier social life, but I sort of figured when/if I managed to get back to a place that felt 'normal' some moderate effort would yield similar results to then.
I work on paying people attention, trying to be genuine, making an effort to connect and follow up, I have a pretty good memory for things people tell me when I'm interested (which I try to temper with some feigned forgetfulness at times to not seem 'creepy') and would generally think I make for a decent friend and person to know but it seems like I'm missing some spark. Lately first dates are as far as I get, can't seem to ignite attention from newer friends. For deepening existing relationships I've worked on convening and organizing more to create opportunities for more casual interaction, even if 1:1 is often what I prefer in a vacuum.
I dunno, maybe masking and depression for so long made me boring? Maybe I'm still not internalizing what the ravages of age have done for my looks? I know the next thing I want to work on is refocusing on creative output which was also sidelined and through the depression/masking/burnout but it also feels a little galling to think I have to make a cool thing for anyone to care to know me better, but maybe that's just the way it is.
Have others felt this way? Is this more aging than autism? Thanks for any thoughts <3

2024.05.21 18:56 PatientSet996 Successful Application from Singapore!

Hello HPI community!
I've successfully applied for the HPI visa and am planning to move over around August onwards, hopefully this post is helpful for those applying in 2024 and feel free to DM me or leave comments about my experience, hopefully I can be of help!
Some background about me:
Timeline:
Sep 4 2023 - Submitted ECCTIS Application (Academic + English Verfiication), paid £217.50
Sep 12 2023 - ECCTIS application completed and was successful
May 3 2024 - Submitted HPI application, paid HPI application fee (SGD1458) and 2-year healthcare surcharge to UKVI (SGD 3671.92)
May 9 2024 - Biometrics appointment at VFS centre in Singapore (remember to bring the document checklist and appointment letter along with you, as well as upload all the required documents on their portal 1 day before your appointment)
May 9 2024 - Visa application forwarded to UKVI (lady at VFS told me it would take 15-20 working days)
May 15 2024 - Visa application was processed and successful! :) Super fast, was expecting to receive it around June
May 21 2024 - Collected passport with 90-day vignette sticker inside
Visa duration: 20 July 2024 - 20 July 2026
90-day vignette: 20 July 2024 - 18 Oct 2024
I haven't bought nor decided when I will fly to the UK, but shall do that soon!
---
Note about my timeline: I decided to submit the ECCTIS application first as I heard there was a 30 working day turnaround time and I thought this would've been the longest part of the whole process. Besides, you needed this document to submit in the HPI application. I was still on the fence about applying for the visa, I was also still employed at the time and I wasn't sure if I would be staying or resigning, hence why I didn't apply for the HPI visa right away.
Documents I uploaded:
My experience:
Honestly, I think my application process was quite smooth and hassle-free, I was just worried that the documents I uploaded were not enough but in the end the process was faster than expected. The only thing I was stressed out about was uploading the documents because it stated to upload them before the day of your appointment and I procrastinated doing so (lol). And the annoying bit was ensuring that my documents were not password protected (which my bank statements were) and I had to re-scan them in order to submit the documents on the portal, but a minor issue overall.
I've also read about the 90-day vignette confusion, I was also confused about this but it seems like it's 90 days from the day my visa starts, at least in my case.
Hopefully this helps give people a rough timeline on what to expect, feel free to ask any questions and I'll try my best to help :)
Would also love to hear from those who are in the UK right now and have any advice to share on housing, opening bank accounts, finding jobs, UK phone numbers etc. as these are the hurdles I'm currently trying to get through :')
Thanks everyone and good luck!

2024.05.21 18:55 Pantydropper_01 Service Desk Contract worker or Networking Engineering Intern

A little background about me and my education, I have a BS. IT, CCNA, and a Cyber Forensic certification, and a little over a year on the help desk. Important note is that I was actually able to secure this service desk position with not a single cert or degree to my name only from working retail and having customer experiences. So now that I've gotten my degree and my ccna & my other cyber certification I have been applying to numerous networking positions.
Hey guys I need some advice on a decision to make....I currently Work from home @ a large organization (Kaiser) working as service desk making minimum wage. I am a contract worker there they keep promising me a spot but I have interview in October but no response or nothing (not even a "you did not get the spot". Now another position has opened up and my manager says I have a good shot at getting this one this time. the pay would be around 55-65k Yearly USD.
However I have gotten an offer for a internship I have to interview for a networking engineering role! I am super excited for an opportunity for a internship for something that is not resetting passwords all day and telling people to plug in the equipment lol.. Service desk is not really my thing and it is soul crushing
Now for the networking engineering internship will be paying 18-21 full time hours like my last job. However, the commute is 40 minutes on the toll road and if I don't take toll road it would be almost a 2 hour commute each way. This is a one year internship at a relatively small company 11-50 workers. Doing MSP for networking for large retail companies
I have heard that it is hard to get out of helpdesk and that helpdesk only leads to more helpdesk and you would need an internship to advance your career potentially out of helpdesk
I need some advice how I should continue in this situation what would you guys do?
ANY FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED.

2024.05.21 18:54 Puzzleheaded-Dark417 Should i quit or finish through on a misleading contract?

Hey everyone,
I could really use some advice on my current career situation.
I graduated with a CS degree and worked as a Data Analyst at a research firm for about 7 months after graduation. The work was pretty leisurely, and I realized I wouldn't progress much if I stayed longer. So, I applied for a few software engineering roles (internships and graduate roles) and eventually got a position as a Junior Software Engineer at a Telerad company.
I should have seen the red flags when they asked if I could work from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday. But I was desperate to build experience, especially with the current tough tech job market, so I agreed. The salary was lower than what we had initially negotiated, and when I called to ask why, they said it was a training contract and technically I wasn't supposed to be paid, so the salary I was receiving was just a stipend.
Fast forward two months into the role, and I haven't learned anything related to software engineering. It turns out the role is more of an IT support position packaged as a software engineer job. I'm working from 9 am to 9 pm, which is way beyond the agreed hours. When I brought this up, they said it's part of the experience and that I need to understand the system before I can access the codebase. Yes, you heard that right!
I want to leave, but my contract requires a two-month notice period. I'm unsure if I should stick it out for the rest of the year (when my contract ends) or start looking for other opportunities despite the two-month notice hindrance.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Should I tough it out, or is it worth trying to find a new role even with the notice period? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.21 18:52 annl83930 Should I go for this opportunity?

I’ve been offered a position that’s a level higher than my current role, at a similar size company and a company I like. However, the fact that the position is maternity fixed term contract for one year was hidden in the interview process and I only learned about this towards the end of the final interview.
I’m a little torn as I’m not really happy at my current job, but the thought of taking the fixed term just feels risky in the job market situation. Any suggestions or similar experience would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.21 18:51 Lidzo Please share with me how great senior roles in the private sector are. Need growth but scared to leave government.

Hi guys - I really need some guidance and motivation.
I've been in B2B/B2G Inside and Outside Sales, Purchasing/Sales Ops Management for a small business, now I'm Purchasing/Contracts Manager at a public agency for almost 4 years. In total been around procurement about 8 years and have been in some supervisory/management role for 13 years.
I'm getting demoted due to budget cuts but even with the demotion, I'm still floating just under $100k and still get 42 vacation days a year plus 12 holidays and only need to work 9-5. The work is easy and stress free, too easy even.
I'm the type of worker that strives in a challenging/fast pace/dynamic/strategy filled workplace. I like problem solving, strategizing, refining processes, analyzing data, all the stuff I'll be missing out on when my demotion kicks in and I become a simple paper pusher.
I want growth, challenge, stimulation, but... the time off to be with my family is priceless, especially since my wife just started a crazy job with long hours and no flexibility.
Are there private sector industries/roles that will get my pay back to about 135k-165k, provide a stimulating, yet fairly stable, stress free work environment but still provide the 10 weeks off a year or even close to that?
PS, I've gotten here with no degree but will be completing a BS in SC&OM in the next year or so. I'm hoping this will open up more senior level director type positions.

2024.05.21 18:48 AllroundedBB How exactly does one network/get referrals for jobs?

See title. I've been searching for a little while now and feel like I have a great grasp on resume writing including ATS terms, cover letters, which boards to use, where to apply, etc. However, one thing that escapes me is networking/getting referrals specifically for the purpose of getting a job. How exactly does one do this? Are you just finding people at the company you want to work for and asking for a referral? Are you joining groups online and/or in-person and making small talk/making them aware you are searching for a job?
I struggle with this because all my previous jobs I achieved simply through applying or even being recruited. I'm not much of a people person and have always loathed networking -- even in law school, of which networking is a big part, I always avoided doing it.
Thanks in advance.

2024.05.21 18:47 Flaky_Fig9841 Leaving/moving boards for a partner

Hello. I’m a full time permanent board teacher (French elementary) in Ontario. My partner lost his job six months ago and is up for an academia job in a town six hours away. Aside from the other factors (leaving my parents, friends, hometown) I’m trying to find out what to expect if I leave my board. I already know I lose my salary, my benefits, my position. I know through QECO my salary might get roughly assessed/matched but is that at LTO level or only permanent contract? We want to have kids in the next couple years but I’m pretty sure I can only get decent mat leave cover once you’re permanent. I haven’t asked my board yet because he hasn’t heard but I don’t know if I can keep my toe in my board for a time if something goes wrong? I want to support my boyfriend as academia jobs are hard to come by but I’m wondering if I’m missing anything.
TIA

2024.05.21 18:43 setdelmar How does one charge for and deliver services like software online? What is the proper/standard sequence of interactions and transactions?

I was thinking about setting up a site with stripe as a learning experience ( I have a digital ocean droplet to play with ) but I do not know what to put for the service or product. Was thinking about maybe flamenco guitar lessons or software.
I do not get how for software one is supposed to charge though. In a previous job I had I would occasionally accompany the bosses to meetings where they would interact with the client and discuss requirements and a timeline regarding what would be delivered, the types of testing needed and how the software would be published/integrated. But I was never aware of how things were charged, when payments would transpire or what types of contracts would need to be entailed because the bosses would do that and just assign us devs under them to do the individual tasks on the apps that were needed.
How do freelance software developers do such things without involving sites like upwork?

2024.05.21 18:42 Artiefleck Scam Zillow Listing

Hello! In January, I applied and was approved for an apartment cross country in California. Turns out it was a fake listing after I paid the deposit. The unit manager requested more money than the agreed upon deposit and first month’s rent. I denied the request and asked for the refund that was in the contract. The unit manager agreed but never responded to my calls or texts. I reported it to my bank as well as the IC3. I tried to report to the local police department in California but they told me since it was online to only do it through the IC3. I just received letter from my bank that they cannot help return my funds. I am wondering what should I do next. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.21 18:39 richardpickman1926 Finding a better Career / Practice Area. AKA what else can I do with a JD

I recently was fired from a law firm. It was my first legal job out of law school, and I worked there for five months. Despite feeling like I was making a lot of progress and understanding the niche practice area, apparently, the firm didn't think I was making progress and fired me. They seemed understanding, and all seemed to like me as a person, but I just don't think my work product was at a place where they wanted it.
I already feel a huge amount of shame over it despite all the support from family and friends. So no need to remind me that I screwed up. I know.
I am thinking about my next move and am not sure if I want to continue being a lawyer or if I need a different environment. I would love to get some advice from people on alternative things I can do with a law degree and jobs that will make me happy.
I was not happy working at the firm. While the subject matter was fun and unique, I was constantly writing and submitting memos. Writing is not my strong suit. I suffer from petty bad dyslexia, and I think that was a major part of the problem. I know I will need to write in every job, but I am hoping to find one where it is less of an issue and where I'm not writing a dozen memos a week.
It might have just been the environment, but it felt less like I was learning and more like I was being judged. I went into every meeting with the partner who managed me, thinking, "okay this memos probably not perfect, but I'm gonna learn something, some tip or trick to make this memo and all my other memos better." But the Partner really just seemed to tear it apart, give me little to no instruction, and get angry at me for not immediately understanding the subject area and his writing style, which was 100% the opposite of everything I learned in law school.
I know this sounds like venting, but I'm trying to give a good image of what I was struggling with at this firm so I can find something different where I can enjoy life. I'm thinking of something like HR or contract management, but I'm not sure. I feel frustrated because it feels like you do all this work to get a job you don't really know if you'll enjoy because you're not allowed to try it until you invest all this time and money.
Thanks in Advance.

2024.05.21 18:38 Andriwosqui Had we lost 2960usd? First job and we'd been taken advantage of

Sorry for my english, not from an english speaking country. First time in the subreddit, and posting.
I'm in my first job, which is resident assistant for the construction of a proyect, I'm an architect and my work is to help to whatever the resident or director need to for keep the construction going; that's important, I think. Well, in August 2023 the director of the project offered us this job, but with one condition, becouse to do so we had to move far from home, like 13h of travel by car. That condition was that on top of the monthly pay of 524 usd paind by the contractor, we'll receive a bonus of 209 usd paid by the director. That was what we agreed on. The problem? We asked for a contract that backed that agreement and that never came (yeah, pretty stupid from us), and every month we'd get paid the 524usd but never the 209... we'd ask the director for those bonuses and he'd always had an excuse, until he said that the project was overdue and the a fine is looming, and if that happens he will not pay us, (what THAT has to do with us, i still don't understad), we called the contractor to ask for help or advise or quit the job becouse that is not what we agreed on, he said that when he goes to pay the director at the end of the project he will discount that and give us what he promised. That call was in January. So now I'm here, doing the final blueprints to finish the project, and about 10min ago I called him to remind him of our agreement and he told me that what will happen is that he is with his accountant and they'll decide how much we'll deserved for our commitment... That's NOT what we'd agreed on. That bonus is not going to be the 1470 that we were promised to EACH one of us, so it would be double.
So I don't know what to do, have we lost? I'm not a confrontational person, so I couldn't tell him that we didn't agreed on that, I told him a disappointed ok and hung up. I was thinking about not hand the blueprints, coz that is a HUGE part of the things needed to finish te proyect. But I don't know if that would make them pay me or just do the damage and win enemies... I really don't know what to do, accept that we'd been taken advantage and the bonus the contractor said? Or turn evil and not hand those blueprints coz if they aren't going to keep they word why should I keep mine? Reminder that I have NO CONTRACT of this, just word.
I have today to decide, coz they're probably going to begin calling me to demand those blueprints... please help me!

2024.05.21 18:37 Ballsfor11days Took a couple years off full time work to travel, do personal projects, and did remote contracting for about 10 months total during that time. Getting back into the job market and holy shit...

I have a B.S. and M.S. in engineering fields (the M.S is operations research). My last two roles were Senior Data Scientist, including the contract role. In total 8 YOE. I never did anything cutting edge, but did my fair share of machine learning modeling and deployment, along with data pipelining, data engineering work, data visualization etc. Mostly at startups.
I've been applying for about 2 weeks now, which I know is not a lot, but I want to maximize my chances. I've reached out to connects, posted on Linkedin (for the first time ever), and am applying to any jobs that fit my skillset, since I know the market is insane right now. All rejections so far, about 10 or so, from 40-50 applications so far.
What worries me are the gaps- I haven't been employed in the last 7 months. While I've done a lot of productive things in that time, none are related to data science or engineering.
While I'll keep applying, my other ideas were
  1. Take some courses to update my skillset (iffy about this one)
  2. Build a small AI/data app, nothing world changing but to show I still got it
  3. Change careers into SWE though I imagine that I might have even less chance there lol
I have a decent runway to survive for a year or so if i need to, considering I did a lot of investing between 2016-2020. So while I'm not in a rush right now, it's still definitely urgent for my long-term survival
Any advice is appreciated!

2024.05.21 18:36 richardpickman1926 Finding a better Career / Practice Area.

2024.05.21 18:36 takalaka91 What are effective/efficient ways to find a job by networking on LinkedIn?

I've been on the job hunt for almost a year now. I've been a part of multiple interview processes and even made it to the final round of a few of them. So far, I've just been applying through most jobsites (LinkedIn, Indeed, BuiltinLA, etc.). Now I want to try networking through LinkedIn as another means of job hunting.
Most of my professional experience is sales and customer service. I'm trying to break into the tech/start-up industry. I even completed a few data analytics certifications through Google and UCLA to help me standout as a stronger candidate. Currently I'm working a contract role for an insurance agency as a finance data coordinator. The contact role won't go past June and is also subject to send even sooner than I might expect.
I'm very much a people-person and have no problem striking up a conversation when I need to. However, the idea of reaching out to strangers on LinkedIn with the intent of finding a job opportunity feels pretty daunting and a fairly awkward. Basically, I'm looking for the most effective and efficient methods of networking that will help me find a job. Any help, guidance, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Side note: I've had recruiters from staffing agencies reach out to me on LinkedIn regarding positions they're looking to fill. After I interview for the position, I would then follow up with the recruiter just as they instructed. I don't hear anything back from them. I understand not getting the job, but why would a recruiter ghost me instead of responding to my follow up?
