2024.05.22 01:03 COATstar (Hobby/RevShare) Snake lover looking for a team to make a snake pet sim

Heya! I apologize for the word wall in advance. I'm excited, lol.
As the title says, I'm a person who absolutely adores snakes. To make a long story short, I currently can't get any more than the 9 I already have, so I was looking for a snake pet sim game to live vicariously through, and... there's nothing! The closest I can find are OviPets and Xanje, but neither of those are very close and personal with your pets, so it doesn't scratch the itch.
So, I want to take matters into my own hands and bring that snake pet sim game into existence! I need help to do it though, as I'm admittedly not very skilled in programming, audio, and 3D model work.
In this team, I would be the 'snake expert' (so-to-speak) that guides how the snakes themselves should be implemented to capture the realism of having them as pets (i.e., what sizes their enclosures should be, what they should eat and how often, what temperatures and humidity their tank should be kept at, their body language and personalities, morph genetics, etc.). I'll also conduct interviews with other experienced snake keepers to make sure all of my information is as accurate as possible.
I'd also be primarily responsible for planning how the gameplay works and how the gameplay loop should go, but I also feel like that's something everyone in the team should be able to contribute to if they want to, so that's by no means something exclusive to me alone. Everyone can have a say there.
I will also do 2D art (though not in a realistic style). I can do icons, UI, and other misc stuff as we need it. While I don't see much writing being in the game beyond tutorials and descriptions, I'll contribute all of that, too.
As I also have actual snakes, I will also need to record examples of behavior from them for the team to use as needed.
What I'm looking for is:
-A coder. As I have no relevant experience here, the coding language and engine would be up to this person. As long as it's something that can do 3D games, export to PC, track the conditions the snakes are in and simulate some degree of their genetics system, I'm open to whatever engine and programming language the coder is most comfortable with.
-An audio designer, as no game is truly complete without SFX and background music. Snakes don't make a lot of noises, but the few they do make are important, and we'll need something to fill in all that silence snakes make.
-Someone - or multiple people - to take on the work of 3D assets. Modeling, texturing, animating, and rigging. I know these are all different skill sets so I'm perfectly willing for multiple people to take on various parts of this role. There would be the snakes obviously, but also other assets like decoration pieces to be made. A lot of the fun with snakes and other terrarium / vivarium / aquarium pets is decorating the tank they live in, and I want this game to be able to capture that.
As for how big the game is going to be, I don't picture this being a very big game. Something around the size of Wobbledogs. The gameplay itself could go on forever in the same save file if the player wanted, but the game itself wouldn't be all that complex and would take place in a set amount of space. On funding, my ideal plan would be to get a team that can make a demo, and then see how much crowdfunding money can be gathered on IndieGoGo. That money would be split evenly between all team members to help us during development. When the game is complete and goes up for sale, same thing- profits are evenly split.
If you're interested in joining this project, please get into contact with me! This is a game I'd love to make a reality! Thank you for reading <3

2024.05.22 00:36 FWdem WCW 1994 woth Hogan

I had some ideas and started booking this out. But I lost some and it is not a passion. So I am just going to give my quick idea outline instead of the more in depth monthly breakdown.
Hogan needs to get in line with losing a match to Flair. I still run a 3 match series. Hogan wins 1 and 3. Run the full injury angle on match 2 (See Sting and Rude from a few years before).
Flair will defend the title at WrestleWar against G1 Climax winner Mashiro Chono.
Hogan needs some non-Flair opponents. I will The Boss, Big Ray Traylor become the #1 contender. Traylor will be the Starrcade opponent. Sting (and Vader) will help establish Traylor along the way.
Austin (US) and Regal (TV) will establish their bona fides as singles competitors. Vader will have a feud with Cactus (if we can get him to stay).
Austin will join a reformed Horsemen (with Sherri as manager). Tully earns a spot back against Funk, if he can smooth things over with Arn. Arn and Tully add to tag team depth, as the roster needs to add some talent.
Harley Race takes on Paul Levesque as a protege, and maybe he will stay.
Bobby Eaton and Steve Keirn (Bad Attitude) will be managed by Col Parker. They need some help on interviews, bu5 are great in the ring.
I see Teddy Long coming back to manage Ron Simmoms and Harlem Heat. He is too entertaining to not help Simmons get over and help guide Harlem Heat.
If Catucs and Funk can be kept around, I plan to have a loose collection of loose cannons with Pillman as well. Any can be lone wolf if others do not stick around.
Dustin Rhodes will be fighting for TV and US titles. Steamboat is still around getting great matches out of many opponents. Trying to build Patriot and Bagwell as a face team. The Armstrongs too with a manager (Dusty or Bullet Bob). Not confident in that.
Hogan will eventually drop title to Vader in 1995. Sting, and then Austin are the planned future champs. I will be bringing in Steiners in Dec 1994 or as soon as I can, as the best tag team ever. Flair and Hogan can be slid away from Title as feud and special attraction types. (All over Randy Savage if he comes available).
Nit as good as a gill booking and storyline. But wanted to give the overall plan.

2024.05.21 22:10 Frankandfriends That one time that psychics, astrology, and climate science all agreed on something.

I’m going out on a limb here, because this post is going to be a strong dose of woo. But I feel I have a duty to warn, and you people seem just weird enough to be able to get it. Read this in the voice of John Oliver if you have to, it might help.

TL;DR: Things are going to get worse before they get better. A mundane and lame, but not altogether surprising, amount of worse. Around 2045-2050, is when things finally turn around. Time to get your shit together, people.

Backstory: Back in the late 70s, a former Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations, Stephan A. Schwartz, got involved in remote viewing. Schwartz started a long-term project that ran from 1978 to 1995 to ask remote viewers to look at one day in June, 2050 to see whether or not the Cold War turned into a nuclear war. He collected data from hundreds of remote viewers over thousands of sessions, over decades of time, and aggregated down the places of only broad consensus. The points where nearly everyone agreed over years and years.

What came out was while we didn’t nuke ourselves, things like the fall of the USSR, the rise of HIV/AIDS, climate change, and terrorism replacing the Cold War seemed like crazy talk at the time, but it's what the remote viewers said. To date, points of wide consensus have held accurate because they’re non-specific. It's not “on Sept 11 this will happen…” it’s “something happened, and now terrorism is why the world is a more dangerous place.”

You can watch here in 2017 where Schwartz talks about a “series of epidemics” occurring. HIV/AIDS was the first one, and last I checked, the opioid crisis, huge increases in non-communicable diseases, and COVID are all massive public health problems on a scale we didn’t used to have - even at the level that in 2017 to consider them. Then he describes Zoom meetings, and how they’re in VR by 2050. So, like I said, things get worse.
/backstory

In the last few years, Schwartz started up a new version of the 2050 project, asking remote viewers to look at the year 2060, and report on wide consensus. A summary of his work is here, with findings on the last page. (This is not investment advice… or is it? ;) I’ve been waiting around on a book with more details for 2 years now, and still nothing, so I have this and interviews as most of what he has out there to go on.
I’m a remote viewer, and I’ve had years of profound, sometimes bonkers experiences that have forced me to stop being so materialist and accept that sometimes remote viewing works. And that the universe is buck wild, but whatever.
Anyone can learn to remote view, just like anyone can learn French if they spend a lot of time every day working on something that seems cool at first, but is ultimately borderline pointless to do without a solid reason. In reality, both have too many rules and are kind of annoying to keep up every day when you’re not using it professionally. But, objectively, learning French is still worse.

….But I’ve also studied and used social science data for work, and looking at broad consensus is how we evaluate things like aggregating survey data. So I put a lot of stock in both the 2050 and 2060 projects simply based on the methodology.

You know what I don’t put a lot of stock in? Astrology.

So I made the mistake of asking astrology about the general themes forecast for the US for 2030-2045, expecting some sort of hilarious contradictions. Like “oh, 2034, Saturn is in Leo - the US elects its first kitty-cat president :3 YAY!””

Nope.
Fam (can I call you fam?) - look, Fam, let me tell you, it did not go well for me.

TL;DR of that post: Nothing contradicts Schwartz. Even the timeline of bad to worse lines up. And I didn't even tell them why I was asking about that time frame before I got a few responses back.

We go from now to bad in the early-mid 2030s, bad to worse in late 2030s/2040, then spicy worse until 2045, then come up for air by the time kindergarten-age kids of today are old enough to rent a car and drive it through Mad Max: Tornado Dustbowl II.
OK, so two woo-woo data points. Who cares, right? Just stupid woo coincidence, right? How many pretend "skeptics" are screaming "confirmation bias!" at me right now? It's not zero.

But....Then we have the unfortunate triangulation of the fact that some of the less pleasant climate change models pointing to a 2.5+ degree world, which is entirely right smack-dab in the realm of possibility right now, agree with the severity of the remote viewing predictions. Expectations of a Blue Ocean event are on track for 2036-2038ish, and the remote viewing data says something happens around 2040 that is a big deal.

The 2050 and 2060 projects both agree that there are migrations: “people flee the coasts, then the Midwest becomes uninhabitable.” But like, more uninhabitable than right now. Constant tornados and floods and drought and general bad times kind of uninhabitable, not like, thinking spaghetti in your chili is still food (I’ll fight you about this, Cincinnati! Come at me!)

Now, if you’ve made it this far, you’re probably just a podcast host desperate for content. Respect.

But for real, if you’ve made it this far, it’s important to acknowledge the fact that this is a warning. This is knowledge, not to create fear, but to inform your sound choices. To be used to guide your life. Data to keep you safe and happy and doing whatever else normal people do these days. Fidget spinners? Are those still a thing? Anyway, point is that if you’re scared, you’re doing it wrong.

And look, this is a topic I’ve looked at for a long time, so there’s no way that you won’t have questions about the nuance. I would, too. Maybe questions like “I’m not clear - are you on drugs now, or do you NEED to be on drugs?”
But I’m going to get off the internet now, and let comments pile up for a while, because we have, like….8 years left to post on IG about plates of food someone else made and you just paid for. Or however you spend your time. I have 8 years left to understand why fidget spinners are a thing before I’m taking out the ball bearings and using them for ammo.

People, get your shit together. Find community. Be compassionate and kind. Learn to garden. Get in shape. Touch grass.
And vote, FFS. Not for America’s first kitty-cat president, I mean, not YET. Vote for humans now so we can have cats later.

2024.05.21 21:44 Crate-Dragon I need to study! Help?

I finally got my call for medical evaluation and interview! I’m pumped! I also know the interview asks a lot of questions relating to your knowledge of the Canadian military and it’s history. Anything specific they ask about? (For those who have been through the process) I’m not looking for a cheat guide. But “Study the Canadian Military” is a little open-ended. I want to know where and what to focus my studies on so I do well.

2024.05.21 20:58 MarkMurrayBooks After 20 years, why aren't you as good as the famous pre-war students?

Stan Pranin mentions some important information about both the pre-war students and the post-war students.

I think it is due primarily to the fact that very few of O-Sensei's students trained under him for any protracted length of time. With the exception of Yoichiro (Hoken) Inoue, a nephew of Ueshiba, Gozo Shioda, the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido, and Tsutomu Yukawa, O-Sensei's prewar uchideshi studied a maximum of perhaps five to six years. (1)

and

The same can be said of the postwar period. The initiates of that period include such well-known figures as Sadateru Arikawa, Hiroshi Tada, Seigo Yamaguchi, Shoji Nishio, Nobuyoshi Tamura, Yasuo Kobayashi, and later Yoshimitsu Yamada, Mitsunari Kanai, Kazuo Chiba, Seiichi Sugano, Mitsugi Saotome and various others. Shigenobu Okumura, Koichi Tohei, and Kisaburo Osawa form a somewhat unique group in that they practiced only briefly before the war, but achieved master status after World War II. None of these teachers spent any lengthy period studying directly under O- Sensei. (1)

Finding out that many of Morihei Ueshiba's students didn't spend any lengthy time with him is a fairly critical piece of information. The pre-war students of Ueshiba came the closest to replicating his abilities. Those students were studying Daito ryu aiki. Their training was different.

Training of the pre-war era. From multiple interviews, there were official training times at the Kobukan dojo for 4 or 5 times a day. There were two morning classes, one which ran from six to seven A.M. while the other ran somewhere between nine and eleven. In the afternoon, there were either two or three classes, but at least one was from two to four and another from seven to eight P.M.(2) (3) Training times lasted one to one and a half hours.(4) According to Shirata, the amount of time spent per week in training was about seven to eight hours. (5) Of course, the students were free to train with each other. (2) We also know that brand new students spent months either watching or doing other chores before being allowed to train. (6) (7) (8) This gives us some indication of the training times per week.

But what were the total years some of the pre-war students spent training?

Gozo Shioda
1932 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
1941 Was posted to China, Taiwan and Borneo.

Kenji Tomiki
1926-1927 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba. Mostly either summer months or vacation time spent training. (9)
1934 Moved to Tokyo. Full time training. (9)
1936 Moved to Manchuria. (10)

Rinjiro Shirata
1931 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
1937 Mobilized into the Army.

Shigemi Yonekawa
1932 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
1936 Moved to Manchuria.

Minoru Mochizuki
1930 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
Late 1930s Moved to Manchuria. (11)

With most students being mobilized for the war, by 1942 when Kanshu Sunadomari began training under Morihei Ueshiba, there were very few students. Training in those days was done only for a little while in the mornings and evenings. Also, Ueshiba was spending time traveling to Iwama. (12) As you can see, the actual number of years that the pre-war students spent training was really not that long, either in duration or per day. Another important thing to realize is that Ueshiba was not at the Kobukan dojo all the time during this period.

From 1926 until the outbreak of World War II, O-Sensei maintained a heavy teaching schedule centering his activities in Tokyo. His students were primarily military officers and person of high social standing and his teaching services were in constant demand. He was obliged to travel extensively around the country and made almost yearly visits to Manchuria, then under Japanese political control. (13)

There was actually only a small amount of training in those years for the prewar students and only a few actually trained more than five years. Adding to that, Ueshiba had a very busy traveling schedule as he went to various places to train people. Morihiro Saito even mentions how busy Ueshiba was traveling before the war. (14) In fact, after Mochizuki opened his dojo around 1931 (15), he stated that when Ueshiba would travel each month to Kyoto to teach Omoto kyo followers, that Ueshiba would stop at Mochizuki's dojo to teach there for two to three days. (16) Between the actual travel times and the teaching times, Ueshiba was not at the Kobukan dojo regularly. None of this even touches upon Ueshiba's teaching style and how chaotic or confusing it had been. The actual teaching style and method used by Morihei Ueshiba will be dealt with in another chapter.

Then there is the post-war period. Some of the post-war students are listed below.

Akira Tohei (1929-1999) 1946-1956 Studied under Koichi Tohei. 1956-1963 Studied under Morihei Ueshiba. 1963-64 Toured U.S. and taught in Hawaii. 1964-1972 Taught at various places in Japan. 1972 Dispatched to America.

Fumio Toyoda (1947-2001)
1957 (age 10) Studied under Koichi Tohei
1964 Shodan by Saito (Tohei was in Hawaii).
1965 Ichikukai dojo as resident for 3 years. After completing this harsh training, he continued to attend Hombu classes for 3 hours each day.
1969-ish – Uchideshi under Kisshomaru Ueshiba (Morihei had died) (sandan).
1971 Yondan.
1974 Dispatched to America (godan).

Mitsunari Kanai (1939-2004) 1959-1966 Uchideshi at Hombu. 1966 Dispatched to America (yondan).
Seiichi Sugano (1939-2010) 1957 Started training at Hombu. 1958-59 Studied under Morihei Ueshiba. 1965 Dispatched to Australia.
Yoshimitsu Yamada (1938-) 1955-56 Uchideshi at Hombu. 1964 Dispatched to NY Aikikai.
Kazuo Chiba (1940-) 1958- Uchideshi at Hombu. 1960 – Sandan. Assigned to Nagoya. 1962 Yondan and teaching at Hombu. 1966 Dispatched to England.
Mitsugi Saotome (1937-) 1955 Started Aikido. 1958 Uchideshi at Hombu. 1960 Teaching at Hombu. 1975 Departed to America.
Shizuo Imaizumi (1938-) 1959 Started Aikido. 1965 Apprentice Instructor at Hombu (sandan). Frequently trained under Koichi Tohei, 1975 Moved to America.
During the post-war period, the students of Morihei Ueshiba actually had more total years training than the pre-war students. A closer look at how much time was spent training directly with Morihei Ueshiba shows that the actual time is significantly less than what it appears. There is relatively little difference between pre-war and post-war in the actual amount of hands-on time with Ueshiba.

Ueshiba moved to Iwama for about ten years from around 1942 to 1952. (17) During this time in Iwama, his actual training schedule with students appeared to be limited to twice a day.

Morihei's daily schedule in Iwama in those years:
7:00-9:00 A.M.: Aikido training followed by a simple breakfast.
4:00P.M.-6:00P.M. Aikido training.(18)

For those ten years in Iwama, the students did not train extensively. It would appear that, at most, there was 4 hours of training each day. While four hours a day is not something to easily dismiss, it is nowhere near an extensive training schedule. We also have to take into consideration whether the students in Iwama trained every day. Even at that, Ueshiba's teaching style was still confusing and at times, chaotic. Saito did mention that the training was severe. (19)
Ueshiba split his time between the Tokyo hombu dojo and Iwama for a short period. Stan Pranin notes that Ueshiba actually lived in Iwama for 15 years after the war ended. (20) Kanai responds that after he started at hombu around 1958, Ueshiba split his time between Iwama and Tokyo. (21)
Until 1955, hombu dojo was not very active. Between 1955 and 1959, more students started coming to the dojo to train, including foreign students. Even then, Ueshiba was not a regular teacher there. He would show up whenever he wanted. (22)
Nishio remarks that when he started, around 1951, it was six months before he saw Ueshiba. (23) In fact, Nishio goes on to note that there weren't many students and that Kisshomaru Ueshiba and Koichi Tohei were the teachers. (24)
Robert Frager remarks that he only saw Ueshiba occasionally during his first year, which would be sometime in the mid 1960s. (25) Walther Krenner also notes that Ueshiba wasn't teaching regularly around 1967. (26)
Kisshomaru Ueshiba states that his father was "besieged by visitors starting from early in the morning and he spent large amounts of time in receiving them". Kisshomaru also notes that his father traveled often. (27)
Taking a closer look when Ueshiba was at the Tokyo hombu dojo, what time, or times, did he teach?

The uchideshi's day begins around 6 a.m., when he cleans the dojo and the grounds outside. The first class of the day starts at 6:30. This class is usually taught by Uyeshiba himself, the Osensei, which means the old teacher. The young uchideshi sit on their knees during this hour, which can be an uncomfortable and tiring experience.
The first class is usually taken up mostly with discussions about God and nature - Uyeshiba doing the talking and the uchideshi listening. It is in this hour that the young uchideshi is exposed to Zen philosophy and the deeper meanings of aikido - its nonviolent and defensive perfection and understanding.
If this all sounds rather remote and difficult to grasp for a Western reader, he may be interested to know that the young Japanese uchideshi often feels the same way. The 83-year-old Uyeshiba many times speaks about highly abstract topics, lapsing usually into ancient Japanese phraseology, so that his listeners often find it difficult to follow him.
When this long hour is over, the young uchideshi exuberantly spill out onto the dojo floor for a half-hour exercise break. All the restless energy pent up within seems to come out and they throw themselves into the practice of their techniques with each other.
At 8 a.m. begins the real study of aikido techniques. This class is taught by a different instructor every day, and is attended by a large number of persons from outside the dojo. Sometimes this hour is taught by Uyeshiba's son, or Waka sensei as he is called. Sometimes Tohei sensei, the greatest of Uyeshiba's followers, instructs the class. (28)

When Ueshiba did teach, he often spent a large amount of time talking and the students just wanted to practice techniques. (28) (29) Ueshiba traveled often. He also entertained visitors. He only taught the morning class at hombu dojo when he was there. From the mid 1940s to the mid 1950s, he was rarely in Tokyo. From the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s, he split his time between Iwama and Tokyo and still traveled occasionally to various other places. In the late 1960s, Ueshiba's health was declining and he rarely taught. Not even getting into the subject of just how confusing Ueshiba's teaching style was, the students of Ueshiba never had extensive training time with him, either pre-war or post-war. What time there was, the post-war students focused on techniques and throwing each other around. The exceptions here would be Kisshomaru and Saito. Both seem to have had more access to Ueshiba than most other students.
With everything mentioned, it is very plausible that many of the people training in Tokyo were actually students of Kisshomaru and Tohei. When Ueshiba retreated to Iwama, he left hombu dojo in the care of Kisshomaru. It also explains why Saito was able to develop the curriculum that he did since he had more time with Ueshiba.
This isn't to say that all the students of aikido never trained with Morihei Ueshiba or that they did not learn from him. This is only to show that the actual hands-on training time with Ueshiba was not extensive. Ueshiba was not really focused on teaching so that whatever the students could glimpse was done so by a very dedicated effort on their part. Ueshiba must have, in some manner, given out certain aspects for training aiki in the pre-war period. Those students stood out.
After 20 years in aikido why aren't you at least close to the pre-war students?
There is an interview with Henry Kono in an Aikido Today magazine that sheds light on the answer.
ATM: When you had conversations like these with O'sensei, what would you talk about?
HK: Well, I would usually ask him why the rest of us couldn't do what he could. There were many other teachers, all doing aikido. But he was doing it differently - doing something differently. His movement was so clean!

ATM: How would O'sensei answer your questions about what he was doing?
HK: He would say that I didn't understand yin and yang [in and yo]. So, now I've made it my life work to study yin and yang. That's what O'sensei told me to do.
The answer is Aiki. Daito ryu aiki. Specific training (not techniques) for aiki. Heaven-Earth-Man. Yin/Yang. Have you found what those training methodologies were?

2024.05.21 20:33 Timely-Address8264 I hate my first nursing job

I feel really disappointed in saying this, going to school, preparing for my exam and passing on my third attempt, just to get to my first job and not like it. Makes me have mixed feelings and I hate that. I work at a long term care home as an RPN (LPN) and as most of you are aware the ratios between nurse and residents are not pleasant and for me it's 1 nurse to typically 30 residents. My orientation (not including several days of video modules) was about seven days scattered throughout two weeks. Originally it was 5 days but I asked for more. I enjoyed the nurses that were orientating me, but each shift I noticed that it was overwhelming even for experienced nurses. However, they were still able complete things that needed to be done on time. I wondered when I start how would I managed as I am a new nurse and aside from skills. Time management is something that school or a textbook can't teach and I really have been struggling during my first two shifts alone. I have had help from other nurses in other units and my manager, but I feel as though I'm more of a burden than help to the team. Am I overreacting? Or is this common feeling when starting a new job in this field. I feel like if I can't handle this job could I even handle a hospital? Would it be better to go to a clinic or try community care or would that be preventing my growth? . I had an interview for a hospital position around the same time as this jobs interview and it's safe to say I did poorly and sadly I didn't even receive a rejection email from that hospital. I did try emailing later and asking on how I could improve next time but I got no response. I'm not sure what's best here and I don't feel proud to be a nurse at all

2024.05.21 19:04 UrbanFyre [CA] Do I tell prospective employer I'm pregnant?

I live in CA and work for a public agency. I know pregnancy is a protected class and there is no legal requirement to disclose. Hear me out though. Back in March, I applied for a position with another public agency and had my first interview in April. I found out the day after I was pregnant. They didn't schedule my second interview until May 13th. By then, I was already 9 weeks pregnant and didn't say anything because I figured if I got the job, I could tell them I just found out and the timing would align with that.
Now they want to do a third/final interview this Thursday. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and with the timing of everything - assuming I get the job offer + putting in my two weeks notice, I would likely be starting mid-June, which would put me around 14-15 weeks pregnant, and likely starting to show. While I know there is no legal requirement to disclose, I worry that it will appear disingenuous if I show up to work on my first day looking obviously pregnant, and if I tell them that I am and looking at maternity leave in NovembeDecember, I'm worried it will look bad. On the flip side, I'm worried if I tell them now (it has come down to me and one other candidate) that they will just find another reason to say they decided not to hire me on paper.
What do I do? Do I tell them at my third interview on Thursday? If not, will this impact the probationary period (assuming there are no performance issues)?
Update for future lurkers and HR folks providing misinformation: I contacted the California Labor Board and asked them directly given some of the responses here so I could get to the bottom of this, and u/glitterstickers was correct. They said that pregnancy leave is covered under California Pregnancy Disability Leave (CA PDL) and comes with job protection in and of itself and doesn’t have a service requirement. FMLA/CFRA are not needed during that time unless a person plans to take additional time beyond the disability portion of 6-8 weeks (or longer, if there are complications). So something like baby bonding time wouldn’t be covered by PDL - that’s where FMLA/CFRA come in. So according to them, I would be protected for the disability portion.
For those of you who state they regularly terminate employees in CA in these types of situations because they don’t qualify for FMLA should probably talk to their employer about being out of compliance. CA PDL is protected and is 100% illegal to fire someone while out on disability for pregnancy regardless of FMLA/CFRA, which are separate, unless they are taking additional time off beyond the disability period. The link below was provided to me by the rep I spoke to.

2024.05.21 17:52 Aggressive_Bug8473 Doctrines under pressure

▶️ Elder Ballard/Ted Koppel Nightline interview 1994.
As a missionary in the MTC in the late nineties, I attended a large leadership training meeting where they played a video clip of M. Russell Ballard teaching newly called Mission Presidents. In the clip, Elder Ballard recounted an interview he gave with a well known reporter who asked him ‘tough’ questions. Elder Ballard paraphrased the reporter’s first question as being something like, ”The mormon church has a history of changing doctrine — it made doctrinal changes to polygamy under pressure from the US government in the 1890s and made changes to the priesthood and temple ban to Blacks under pressure from the civil rights movement in the 1970s…when will the church recognize gay marriage or allow women to have the priesthood?” After Elder Ballard recounted this reporter's question to the room of missionaries and mission presidents, everyone erupted with laughter. To the mind of a TBM, it was absurd that someone would ask such a question. This group could not draw any similarities between current social issues and any doctrinal changes from the past. After the audience settled down, the Elder Ballard used this story to emphasize the importance of revelation and that any doctrinal changes are not made in reaction to outside pressure, but from direct revelation from God.
25 years later, I no longer believe but my identity is still largely defined by my time in the church. I recently did some research and found a video clip of the original interview that Elder Ballard did. The “reporter” was Ted Koppel and the interview was part of a 1994 Nightline story on the Mormon church called “On the March”. Below is the short clip of Elder Ballard’s interview with Ted Koppel.
Coming from my orthodox Mormon upbringing, I don't understand how members can celebrate doctrinal and policy changes of the modern church. Doctrines and policies changing over time is only cognitive dissonance to me and only undermines the power and position the leadership claims to have as being prophets, seers, and revelators. When the day inevitably comes that the church allows for gay temple marriage and female priesthood holders, I’m sure it will be celebrated as divine revelation and a clear sign that God guides his prophets. What do you think?

2024.05.21 17:15 TakeItOff2rKey I transitioned from working as a project delivery manager to resuming my role as a scrum master.

Before becoming a project delivery manager, I worked as a scrum master for almost two years. I believed I was ready to transition to a project manager role at another company, but I was mistaken.
As a scrum master, I enjoyed guiding my team in following the scrum framework and facilitating its events. I took pleasure in watching my team improve, helping them overcome obstacles, and being an integral part of the team.
During my six months as a project delivery manager, my role primarily involved pressuring the team, updating spreadsheets, guessing delivery dates, and other tasks that brought me no satisfaction. Although I managed multiple scrum teams, it was unfulfilling. And don’t even mention the stress amd pressure of dealing with upper management!!
Fortunately, I received an offer to return to a scrum master position elsewhere. My interviewer questioned my decision to revert from a project delivery manager role, seeing it as a step down. However, for me, it was returning to what I truly enjoy.
Just sharing this journey of mine! I’m just so happy that I’ll be able to go back to my previous role.

2024.05.21 17:13 CommanderFuzzy Did anyone else read these? They were my favourite Buffy books even though they were unofficial.

Did anyone else read these? They were my favourite Buffy books even though they were unofficial.
In the 90s/00s these were the best resource I had. They've all kinds of dedicated sections such as explaining cultural references (I was from the UK so that was super useful), tracking clothes/quotes/recurring themes/Joyce's methods of denial/trivia/cast/crew/air dates/deleted scenes/allsorts.
There were sections on how each ep related to the other eps, along with my favourite section called 'Logic let me introduce you to this window' which is a massive list of all the onscreen-goofs or continuity errors. I used to read it & scan my VHS for teleporting props or stunt double appearances because what else were we meant to do in the 90s.
I can't write all the sections as there are too many but it's an incredibly detailed archive/time bubble complete with huge lists of references used at the end, all of the magazine interviews & TV interviews etc. It being unofficial allowed him to say things that would not have been allowed in the other guides at the time too

2024.05.21 16:46 apple-dapple Hiring process?

I’m currently applying to Jimmy johns and the process seems to be slow. After applying it took a few weeks- a month to get back to me. I had my interview which went smoothly, and I received the menu test study guide. About a week later I took the menu test and I felt pretty good about it. They said they will be in contact with me. From what I’ve heard they should get back to you in a couple days, so after 5 days I called and asked about the status of the test/ my application. The person said to wait for the GM to contact me. It’s been a week now and I’m a little bit nervous. Is it normal for their hiring process after the menu test to take that long?

2024.05.21 16:29 bepbep_beaches [Online][5e][Sunday 3pm EST][21+] Viloneian Ventures

Viloneia is a land that is ever shifting. From the tribal nation of Chaunshar to the religious scholars of Ormsfield, the world is vast, and it seems like someone is always discovering something new. With the signing of the All Creatures Accord recently, the world has entered an era of peace known as the Accord Age. Wars were concluded and new nations born out of the signing of this Accord, and Viloneia avoided plunging into another Terror Age.
The story is in its infancy, with plenty of room to be written by you and the others at the table. Will you help the Accord Age to prosper, or will you be a piece in the machine that plunges the world back into discord and strife?
Hello everyone! I’m Bep (she/her) and the DM for this game. I am new to DMing but not to 5e in general, as I have played in several games in the past and finally decided to try my hand at running a game. Viloneia is a world entirely of my own creation, and though it’s a young creation, I feel it’s solid enough that I have started running a game in it.
Specifically, I am looking for just one player to fill a spot at my table. We already have 3 established players are are 6 sessions in, but I have decided to take one more player to round things out for reasons I can’t explain, lest I spoil some key plot points, haha.
Viloneia is a high fantasy, medieval type world. You know, normal D&D fare. It has its own pantheon and history that I have all written out and am happy to talk about if you are interested. I just don’t have a player-specific guide written up at this time so it’s easier to tell you more once we get to talking.
I am looking for a player that is:
  • 21+ years of age. Sorry to anyone younger out there, but we’re all 21+ at the table and would like to keep it that way. This is not an NSFW game however. Romance, while permitted, is fade-to-black only. Adult themes may still be present in the course of RP. I run a mature game and so themes that some people may find upsetting can show up.
  • LBTQIA+ positive. There’s no tolerance for hate or discrimination at my table.
  • Active and engaged during games. Be proactive, not reactive, and interact with your party.
  • Inspired to make a character that impacts the world. I am happy to give more details about my world if you contact me!
  • Not afraid of consequences and willing to play a serious game. I don’t run a “haha funny” game. I run a game with serious repercussions to your actions should you choose to do something that deserves those consequences. Be prepared for that.
  • Committed to a long-term game. I’m not running a one-shot here, I want someone who is going to stick with it through months of play.
  • Willing to join a VC for a casual interview in the evening (EST) if asked.
The current makeup of the party is:
  • A Nightblessed (Drow) Elf Paladin, Oath of Watchers
  • A Variant Tiefling Rogue, Soulknife
  • A Variant Tiefling Cleric, Grave
We use Roll20 for maps, D&D Beyond for character sheets, and Discord VC for the actual games.
Games are 4 hours and run from 3pm EST to 7pm EST on Sundays, every week.
If you’re interested, please fill out this brief form. If I like your answers, I'll reach out on Discord. We’ll get to talking from there. I don’t have a very formal application because I’m more confident in my ability to source people based on the vibes I get from conversation.
This will be marked CLOSED once I have found someone.
