2024.05.22 01:47 Far-Revolution-2802 Car insurance 1200 a month

hey guys, I’m in a bit of a spot. I currently have a policy with progressive and my insurance is running me over 500 a month. I’m 19 and had an accident almost 2 years ago. Because I was on my family’s plan, we didn’t realize that my accident was a huge part in what made it so expensive. My parents took me off their plan and now I’m stuck looking for a new one. I tried all the big names and they’re all horrible. Should I just take the chance with liability only? I’m a good driver and the circumstances with my accident were complicated and im sure I can’t say that on here. The general was the one that quoted my 1200 a month, which I think is funny to mention. just insane. If anyone in Texas knows of a way a can get cheaper coverage please put me on. I’m a student, and I wait tables so it’s not like I can just throw away money. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

2024.05.22 01:22 sprincy Forgotten about in a Loaner?

Brought my 2 in for regular maintenance in early-March, was given a loaner and told my car would be ready likely the next afternoon. Service dept noted a few items of damage likely related to SoCal potlholes that apparently needed replacement so I got in touch with my insurance to see how to proceed. Service center proceeded to go dark on both me and my insurance rep. I tried many times to get ahold of my service rep at polestar to no avail trying to get a quote for my insurance, finally just gave up. I’ve now had my loaner from polestar for around 2.5 months and I’m mostly confused as to whether or not they even know/care? At the end of the day it’s no problem for me, I drive nearly 200 miles almost every day for work and charge at fast chargers frequently, and drive decently spiritedly when I’m able. Ive clocked over 6k miles on my loaner and at this point I’m honestly concerned I’ll have to replace the tires before I even get my car back lol. (Not that I would ever pay out of pocket for that on a car that’s not mine, unless I take them with me afterwards also lol) I own a ‘21 with pilot/plus and my loaner is the same but with the added performance pack, leaving me spoiled with the nicer suspension and snazzy seatbelts. I’ll lowkey be sad when I’ve got to retrieve my own car at this point haha. Mostly curious if anyone else has experienced crazy long service times / loaners from polestar also?

I just need to vent. I was referred to a specialist who supposedly has experience with people like me, with unique anatomy… I have a double uterus/cervix/vagina. I have 5 fibroids between the two. I’ve also had 11 ‘cycles’ this year, and May isn’t over yet. This specialist was supposed to be a consult for a hysterectomy.
Come to find out, his “malpractice insurance won’t allow him to do hysterectomy procedures anymore.” Direct quote. He then tried to tell me that I don’t really have two of everything, even though I have imaging. He also tried to tell me I have endometriosis and don’t ovulate. My regular doctor told me, in no uncertain terms, that I do NOT have endometriosis. She’s seen my uterus with her own eyes since she did my tubal ligation two years ago. He then proceeded to tell me that I’ve not been having a real period since I was on birth control for 10 years (stopped two years ago), and that I don’t know what a real period looks like… at 30+ years old. Edit: want to add that this was an office visit. As in, we were in an actual office, not an exam room. He never touched me or did any kind of exam/imaging/testing.
Let me tell you, I was livid. I also started researching medical tourism and might just take a trip to Cabo in the near future.
Anyways, rant over. Look out for yourselves ladies.

2024.05.22 00:36 loldonkimo Insurance on lease car

Hi all, I have my first lease car arriving tomorrow, all paid through the business. Insurance will be going through the business also.
Not sure if I'm overthinking things but is there anything I need to look out fospecify? I did a dummy run through money saving supermarket tonight and got a quote of around £550 per annum for fully comp,, did a voluntary excess of £500. The quote was based for my wife and I to be named drivers. We both already have insurance on our existing csrs.
I put down business use for the insurance as it's going through the business and most mileage will be business I guess.
Name-wise , do I just put my name down or do I have to say it's leased by the company or anything? At this stage in my post I'm thinking I'm definitely overthinking this so will end now!
(Have never leased before or owned car through business, sorry for noob questions)

2024.05.22 00:27 titoalba How big of a deal is Hyundai theft nowadays?

I am very strongly considering purchasing a 2021 Hyundai Sonata SEL in Calypso red. I love everything about the car itself, but I have one hang up. Even though it is a push button start, I am worried that whatever is left of the “Kia boys” trend will lead to somebody breaking in to try and steal it. Best case scenario would be a broken window and work case scenario is they trash it. I live in a largish city in the Great Lakes region, and while I try to stick to nice enough parts of town I am still worried.
So for anybody who has bought a Hyundai living in a midwest city or that has kept track of Hyundai/Kia thefts, how big of a deal is this going to be? Fyi I was able to get an insurance quote for it.

Shipping My Car From New York to Georgia - Is It Safe? Should I Be Worried?

I Need to Understand the Process of Shipping My Car

Is shipping my car from New York to Georgia a straightforward process? Yes, that’s if you select a reliable and reputable auto transport company. The journey covers approximately 850 miles, and professional auto transporters are well-equipped to handle such distances. They use a variety of transport methods, including open and enclosed trailers, to ensure your vehicle's safe transit.

How Should I Choose the Right Auto Transport Company?

When deciding on a company for shipping your car, research is crucial. Look for companies with strong reputations, verified customer reviews, and proper licensing. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) provides a database of licensed carriers, which is a good place to start. A legitimate company will also offer insurance coverage, which adds an extra layer of protection for your vehicle.
https://preview.redd.it/wi6z54svlu1d1.jpg?width=697&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7427826dd15f923c624e7d70752d4d6786ca8fdf

How Should I Prepare My Vehicle for Transport?

Proper preparation can significantly impact the safety of your vehicle during shipping. Start by cleaning your car inside and out, which allows for a thorough inspection and documentation of its condition before transport. Remove personal items and ensure the vehicle is in good mechanical condition. Document any existing damage with photographs and detailed notes. This documentation can be crucial if you need to file a claim for any damages that occur during transit.

Do They Provide Insurance Coverage?

Auto transport companies provide insurance, but the coverage can vary. It's essential to understand the terms and conditions of the insurance policy offered by your chosen transporter. Verify the coverage limits and what is included in case of damage. You might also consider purchasing additional insurance for extra peace of mind. Contact your car insurance provider to see if your policy offers any coverage for vehicle transport.

Comparing Open and Enclosed Transport

Two primary methods exist for shipping cars: open transport and enclosed transport. Open transport is more common and generally less expensive. However, it exposes your vehicle to the elements and potential road debris. Enclosed transport offers more protection, as your car is shipped in a covered trailer, safeguarding it from weather and road hazards. This option is more costly but may be worth the investment, especially for high-value or classic cars.

Timing and Scheduling Considerations

Timing is an important factor when planning to ship your car from New York to Georgia. Booking your transport well in advance ensures availability and can sometimes result in better rates. Be aware that the shipping process may take several days to a week, depending on factors like the specific route and any unforeseen delays. Discussing timelines with your transport company will help you plan accordingly.

Potential Risks and How to Mitigate Them

While shipping your car is generally safe, there are risks to consider. Damage during transit, delays, and logistical issues can occur. To mitigate these risks, choose a reputable company, ensure adequate insurance coverage, and prepare your vehicle properly. Additionally, staying in communication with the transport company throughout the shipping process can help address any concerns promptly.

Cost Considerations

The cost of shipping a car from New York to Georgia can vary based on several factors, including the type of transport, the size and weight of your vehicle, and the time of year. Open transport is usually less expensive than enclosed transport. Getting quotes from multiple companies and comparing services will help you find the best deal. Remember, the cheapest option isn't always the best; consider the company's reputation and the services included.

Customer Experiences and Reviews

Reading customer reviews and testimonials can provide valuable insights into the reliability and quality of an auto transport company. Look for feedback on aspects such as timeliness, communication, and how issues were handled. Websites like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Transport Reviews can be excellent resources for finding honest reviews and ratings.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that the auto transport company you choose complies with all legal and regulatory requirements. The FMCSA oversees interstate vehicle transport, and carriers must have a valid USDOT number. Checking the company's standing with the FMCSA can help confirm its legitimacy and compliance with federal regulations.

Final Thoughts on Safety and Peace of Mind

Shipping your car from New York to Georgia is generally a safe process when handled by a professional and reputable company. By thoroughly researching transporters, understanding insurance options, preparing your vehicle, and staying informed, you can significantly reduce any concerns you might have. The peace of mind that comes with knowing your car is in good hands is invaluable, making the effort to choose the right transport company well worth it.

I’ve got quotes for car insurance and the cheapest one seems to be the Admiral Littlebox but I’ve heard loads of bad things about it I was wondering if anyone had any good experiences with it and if it’s worth it. Also not sure if you’re not allowed to drive after 10pm on it or if it’s just not suggested if you regularly drive at that time.

2024.05.21 22:57 rao-blackwell-ized Here's how I got a Paxlovid prescription in about 10 min. via Amazon Clinic

Hoping this post of just sharing my experience doesn’t break any rules but let me know if it does and I can revise. None of this is intended to be medical advice. Obviously consult your healthcare professional. I'm also not advocating for lying on a health screener; I'm just telling you how it works.
I’m not going to opine on whether you need / don’t need / should take / shouldn’t take Paxlovid. There are plenty of posts on that already (just search Paxlovid on this sub). This post is assuming you’ve determined you do indeed want or need it. I’m just sharing my experience in case others are wondering how to do the same thing or what the process looks like.
This was extremely easy and only took about 10 minutes.
Here’s the link that should go straight to the Covid-19 treatment online visit page: https://clinic.amazon.com/dp/B0BL1Z6VXB?ref_=sf_ac_covid
If for some reason that doesn’t work, go to the main clinic page, click “Find a treatment,” and then click Covid-19. https://clinic.amazon.com/
Click “Get Started.”
I did “Message Only.” No phone or video call. Basically just a chat screen. Messages also go to your email and phone if you choose and you can exit out of the chat window and return later if you need to.
I had 2 choices of an “online clinic” - Curai and Wheel. Both were the same price. Curai quoted me a shorter wait time. This probably depends on your home state because it asks that first.
The health screening questionnaire is basically a maze that you have to navigate correctly to get to your desired destination (a Paxlovid prescription), and the correct path is pretty narrow. It’s looking for a high-risk individual with a positive test in the last 5 days who doesn’t have immediate risk of a cardiac event. That last part is important because on my first attempt I checked the box for “chest tightness” and it kicked me out and told me to go to the ER. Pretty sure a lot of the initial symptoms it asks about are serious ones where it will just tell you to go to the ER. You’ll probably answer something wrong. Don’t worry; you can just click the back button in your browser and stay inside the questionnaire. BMI was my high risk qualifier.
Cost for the “visit” was $34 billed to my credit card saved with Amazon.
A family medicine MD replied in about 10 min. asking for timeline of positive home test and symptom onset. 10 min. later he replied with a proposed treatment protocol of a Paxlovid prescription and asked if I agreed with the proposed treatment plan. I agreed and the prescription was immediately sent to my local CVS and I got it within hours.
Neither Amazon nor the pharmacy will deliver Paxlovid to your house. You have to go pick it up in person. Both Amazon and my pharmacy explicitly stated this on the screen.
Pharmacist told me the 5-day course (10 packs of 3 pills each) would have been $1,500 without insurance, $325 with my insurance, and I happened to Google “Paxlovid coupon” and stumbled upon the Paxcess program/coupon and that made it completely free. American healthcare; go figure. Coupon is here: https://www.paxlovid.com/enroll-in-co-pay-program
Also, obligatory reminder to thoroughly check all the interactions and contraindications before taking this drug. There's a pretty long list.
Keep your heads up.

2024.05.21 22:11 Jubbles8 Advice Needed: Subsidence

We’ve been in the process of purchasing a probate house since our offer was accepted in December. In Feb/March we found out the property had suffered from subsidence in late 2020 due to a couple of leaking drains. The drains were fixed in 2021 but no work was done to the house, it was monitored for some time after, and no movement found. We had a structural engineer monitor it again recently and still no movement.
We’re planning to completely renovate the property, gut it, loft conversion, two storey side and rear extension. The previous buildings insurance lapsed and we’ve found it very hard to get cover. We’ve now received a quote from a specialist broker of £2.3k/year which seems very high and doesn’t include subsidence cover during the build. There is also no guarantee we’ll get cover once it’s done and no way of finding out.
This is to be our forever home and we’re financially putting everything into it however all this has worried us. Even though I don’t think we’ll have issues with subsidence it’s an expensive gamble. The high premium may go up after the build and we may still not get cover for subsidence. And we’re not sure we’ll get a mortgage as we don’t know what the insurance will look like on the other side. I’m a very cautious person and would usually run a mile but after having to ditch the last purchase due to a similar issue I thought I’d seek more opinions.
Any questions ask away, otherwise your thoughts are appreciated.

2024.05.21 21:54 Riemann-Hypothesis Insurance?

Is insurance for luxury handbags suggested? For context, my wife and I are academics and live a quiet non-glamorous life. Her family is successful financially, and recently, her mother gave her some nice bags for fun.
I know nothing about handbags but thought I’d look into insurance in case. My MIL does not insure, but I did a search here and people seem to suggest WAX. If my wife is going to barely use the bags, is insuring still best? The price quotes seem to be 0.5 - 1% value of the bag, is this monthly?
Thanks very much in advance

2024.05.21 21:20 RiverZealousideal680 Aprillia and their 5 month waiting period

A few days ago my dad talked to me about getting a bike for us, He hadn’t had a bike apart from the rx100 since 2018, when he sold his CBR250
After which he never got another bike and just rode around on the RX
I gave him all the options in the 250-500cc segment, Triumph 400s, Aprillia RS457, Duke 250/390, The new Pulsar, pretty much every bike in this segment.
He told me to get quotations from Triumph, KTM and Aprillia, and also contact a few used bike dealers. After going to all 3 showrooms, luckily all are within 30 mins from my place KTM and Triumph gave me a quote, Options for Insurance, both of these showrooms were pretty straightforward to deal with and assured that delivery would be made in 5-7 days
Aprilla on the other hand, doesn’t have any options on insurance- i have to pay the 32k for the insurance non negotiable, can’t get 3rd party insurance since “Insurance company se aata hai”
Their waiting period is 5 months.
I came home and told dad all this and he just said we’ll buy a bike from the brand who actually wants to sell us one.

2024.05.21 20:40 matlockdown Switching Flood Insurance Carrier at Renewal Deadline

I've had a policy with a flood insurance carrier (via a local insurance broker) for a couple years now that's been quite affordable - the most recent year's premium was only $484.
I reached out to my insurance broker about a month ago asking what this coming year's premium would be, as I had not received a renewal quote. It had skyrocketed to $35,000 as that carrier is no longer are insuring residential properties!
It's taken a couple weeks for my insurance broker to find us a better deal from their network of carriers. But she has found us a couple good options. My bank has approved one of the options she found as acceptable coverage per the terms of the loan.
Problem is my current policy expires on 5/24/24 and changing to a new carrier requires a 30-day waiting period.
What should I expect my bank to do about the ~30 day lapse in coverage due to this waiting period? Anyone experience something like this?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

2024.05.21 20:35 That_Performance_802 Insurance not cancelled on sons car after sale a few years ago, massive insurance increase now

Hi all. My son sold his car in the summer of 2022 and cancelled the insurance. He has a confirmation email with the date. Looking back at his bank statements they took further payments 2 months after. He is trying to insure his current car for renewal and they are quoting £11000 due to an incident that happened to the old car during those 2 months after with the new owner. He can't find the log book. Any idea how we can go about sorting this out? Can logbooks be accessed through the DVLA to show the current registered keeper?

2024.05.21 20:32 JezzaX86 55CX6 replacement

55CX6 replacement
I had a mishap last night when moving my OLED to connect something to the mains socket behind it. When doing so I heard a plastic sounding crack to find this lovely looking dead pixel line in the bottom corner of the screen.
I'm still waiting to hear back from LG regarding a repair call out and the costs, which I assume would be similar to just replacing the TV, but my insurance company are offering me enough money to cover about 85% of the cost of 55" C3. Depending on what LG gives me as a repair quote. Would people here think it to be more worth getting the CX repaired with the insurance payout, or buying the C3? Or is there another panel anyone else would recommend?

2024.05.21 19:39 ChocoChipPancakes Should I really replace my windows before siding.

Hi all,
My wife and I just bought a home built in the 1970s that has old cedar shake siding. All windows are single pane wooden double hung with storm windows that, while older, appear to be working fine. A few have rotted sills but the rest appear solid. We would want to paint the interior of the windows as well.
We plan to reside the house with hardi. I’ve been told by many sources we should replace the windows first, which I’m planning to do, but I was hoping to get a sanity check first. Windows are obviously a costly project, even if I DIY, so it will delay the siding project.
If we didn’t need to get the house sided, I think we’d probably keep most of these windows for at least 5 years, potentially replacing them window by window.
So Reddit, should I REALLY do windows first or is it okay to do siding first in this scenario?
NOTE: To provide more context, our insurance company has requested we fix parts of the cedar siding soon, which I’ve thought about doing myself, but I’m not sure how successful I will be. Quotes from contractors are pretty high, and presuming we plan to redo the siding at some point in the near future, seems like a waste of money.

2024.05.21 19:27 Missing_Back How best to navigate situation with partner who has higher rates?

* I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner which I have a SF policy for (~$90/month)
* My wife (newly married) has a 2009 Nissan Murano which she has a Progressive policy for ($250/month)
* She has a less than clean driving record, a number of accidents in the past few years, driving under suspension (not maliciously, just genuinely forgetful and lacks object permanence)
* Her Nissan is dying so we're looking to replace it. Considering her 2009 Nissan costs her $250 to insure, we don't even want to think about what it would cost to insure something newer with her rates. I got quotes for the few cars we're looking at, not taking her rates into account, and they'd be ~$200/mo, give or take depending on the specific car.
What's the best way to go about this legally and without fucking us over as far as insurance rates go? I talked to my StateFarm account representative and she said *technically* if I don't tell them *when* we got married (and this convo was prior to getting married) then it's kind of a "don't ask don't tell" sort of situation, and I can just insure it on my policy and not add my partner to the policy so the rates don't go up.
But I'm not sure how it works as far as if my wife gets pulled over, or if someone hits her when she's driving, etc. Does she *need* some sort of policy of her own, or is it fine if the car itself is insured on my policy? How does any of this work?

2024.05.21 19:24 coldcoffeethrowaway What should I do about this? It's an issue with my own personal therapy session

I posted about this the other day but it was removed because it was interpreted as me posting and not being a therapist. I want to clarify, I am a therapist (associate licensed). This is a question about my own personal therapy session billing.
I went to one session with a new therapist back in April. It was terrible-worst therapy session of my life. That's besides the point though, but it was a complete waste of time and unhelpful. You can look in my post history if you want to read about it. That will give you some context of how unprofessional this therapist is.
Anyway, I got an invoice for the therapist for her full fee of 140. I had submitted my insurance information to the therapist and was under the impression I would be using my insurance and just paying a copay. I reached out to my insurance company regarding this and they said a claim had never been submitted/ they have never received a claim from the therapist. I contacted the therapist and she responded, and I quote, "I definitely did send in your claim thru Therapy Notes. I will resubmit it again and refund you if/when they pay it. 🤷‍♀️ " I had asked my insurance company if there was anything I needed to do for the claim to be filed or any information I needed to give the therapist, and they said no, but they did give me a fax number that the therapist could fax the claim to.
So I emailed the therapist the fax number (politely) and she responded, "I don't normally fax claims nor do we even have a fax machine. I can compare that number to our file and also, you're welcome to fax in the claim also. BTW, in consideration of the back and all the ensuring problems, I had submitted this claim 8 times, FYI."
What should I do? She is responding so unprofessionally. I don't know that I even understand what her last emails means 100%. My insurance company is saying she has not submitted a claim and she is saying she submitted it 8 times?? I don't know what to believe. Also her saying I can submit my own claim...is that normal? There is a person who does the billing at my practice so I am not directly involved with doing that so I do not know what is normal or not regarding that. I know we do not ask our clients to submit their own claims though. It feels to me as if she does not care that I am being charged the full fee and is not trying to help me out here.

2024.05.21 19:09 Plediocraties GEICO increased rates

I pay GEICO about $600 every 6 months for my 2013 civic’s insurance. About 2 weeks ago a rock fell off a truck and took out some of the plastic in front of the radiator, just cosmetic damage, figured I’d report the damage, make a claim and get the plastic parts replaced. Geico’s mechanic that they sent me to quoted the work at about $300 for parts and another $205 for labor. GEICO said I have a $500 deductible (which I do) and they will send me a $5 check for the work. But today I saw they raised my rates by $250 per 6 months… is this kind of rate increase legal? The cost to repair the cosmetic damage is roughly $1000 now if you factor in premium increases… this is outrageous.
Edit: got off the phone with GEICO, apparently they hadn’t noticed that I changed my address in their app until I filed a claim. Now I “live farther away from a hospital and around more old people who have higher medical bills if they are in an accident”. Also apparently they raised my yearly rate more than I thought. It’s increasing from $1137/year to $2268/year. I’ll be canceling my policy with GEICO as soon as I find a good alternative. If anyone has recommendations I’m open to suggestions. I’m not even sure I care if it’s that much cheaper, I just can’t give my money to GEICO anymore.

2024.05.21 18:38 Commercial-Cherry959 Unpermitted structure in disrepair. Dealing with insurance

So my husband and I bought a house in the fall of last year. The previous owners built a small all-purpose room adjacent to the garage which is the support for a 2nd floor sunroom they added onto the kitchen. All of this appears to have been done without a permit.
Well when we bought the house we were aware it was going to have to be taken down since it’s in complete disrepair. I’m talking missing windows, rotting walls from water damage, it’s not great. In the meantime we’ve boarded up the missing windows to help keep rain out, but we really haven’t had the time or money to repair it. We had to have a lot of electrical work done, repairs on a chimney and the roof, plumbing work has been done. Honestly, we’ve been doing a million other things since moving in that we just kept pushing off the sunroom and all-purpose room til this spring/summer. We were more focused on what needed to be fixed to the actual living space in the house first since the damage to the sunroom/all purpose room is really only on the outside wall.
Fast forward to today and I get a call from our insurance broker. I guess our insurance company is asking about the sunroom/all purpose room and they want to know what we’ve done to it and send them any pictures of updates.
I didn’t speak to my broker, she just left a message, but mentioned the insurance company could issue a notice. What exactly does that mean? Do you think I could be honest and tell her we’ve been updating everything else and haven’t gotten there yet? Do you think the insurance company would drop us if we haven’t repaired it? Could we lie and say we’re waiting on a contractor to come out and give us a quote?
We’re planning on having my step dad who is a retired carpenter from a different state help us with this project over the summer depending on costs and his availability. If that’s the route we take, we weren’t planning on pulling permits since it wasn’t done in the first place and we live on a quiet, private, dead end road. No one would be able to see the work being done so we thought we could get away with this. But now I’m wondering if the insurance company will want to see the permit? Or am I over thinking this and they’ll just want to see a picture of it done?
If anyone has any thoughts or advice here, it would be greatly appreciated! My husband and I are first time homeowners with a fixer upper and we’ve dumped tens thousands of dollars into this place already. I don’t know if we can afford a contractor to completely redo both structures at this point.

So I work in EMS. I had a accident at work 08/22 and no tickets in the past 18 months. I am leasing a 2022 Ford EcoSport for $214 a month. My insurance through state farm currently is $420 a month, and after many phone calls I found that it is correct, and I just did a quote through progressive for $250 a month (which is more reasonable I think). Why would state farm have me pay that much and have there be close to a $200 difference between companies?
