2024.05.22 01:38 kekkone987 Topku
Topku is clearly the winner of fb02 and we saw it in the metrics provided by the 4 regionals but is too early to despair. From what i ve seen there is room for improvement in the match up:
-Obv yoy have to build your deck in order to beat topku: for example a way to remove the roshi 1 cost -Try to change the way the game is usually played: for example usually we tend to awaken as soon as possible and not defend early on, but in this match up defending early on might be the best choice to have more agency against topku power turns without being pressured as much as when u are awaken -if u built a late game deck, even if not attacking with leader sucks, against topku it may be a good choice, especially for green decks, because u can slow the deck down while u ramp for ur high mana cards. -if u have any idea that can work, try it, do not give up
As i said before, it ll be very difficult to break the match up vs topku and i m not even sure it s possible but i think there is some hope. Let me know what u think, if u tried any of the point i wrote above or if u have any other ideas or just what u think about my suggestions

2024.05.22 01:35 AniTaneen What would you like to see in a Psionic Expansion?
I’d love to hear ideas for a Psionic focused expansion.
Here are the ones living rent free in my brain:
More Espionage. First and foremost, I fully expect that a Psionic focus will add and expand to espionage systems in place. From the Second Foundation to the Bene Geserit, from Anya Forger to Alfred Baxter, Psionics involves espionage, surveillance, and mind manipulation. And I for one would like to: * Influence politics in another empire * Steal Leaders * Sow mistrust amongst federations and vassals * Ferment rebellions * Remove corporate holds and replace them with your own.
Advanced Authorities a given since we got them in machine age, with the cybernetic’s individualistic vs collectivistic axis and physical vs virtual of synthetic. For Psionic, the authorities could instead go along an enlightening vs concealing axis. The enlightened governments are focused on output, stability, and/or leaders. While the concealing is focused on infiltration, manipulation, cloaked ships, faction affinity and/or the council.
Ascending to a higher plane, One thing that took me by surprise was the synthetic ascension giving bio pops the virtual trait if they picked a “virtual” authority. It would be neat if the “enlightened” option gave us unique traits to modify the Psionic pops.
Psionic Hives I think this is a constant community request, and just as we can assimilate into the hive with cybernetics, we should be able to assimilate through psionics, but I would like to see a very different gameplay for the concealing psi hive, one based on everyone’s
favorite hated corporation: crime syndicates. Let me explain how the “crime” hive works:
- You can open holdings on planets, like a megacorp. Just like the crime syndicates, you don’t need trade deals.
- Some buildings will give resources, straight up like the megacorp, but the fun comes with the other holdings.
- Some holdings can ferment crime and lower stability.
- Other holdings slowly siphon pops, transferring pop growth to you.
- With Gene Tailoring technology, the psi-hive can take xeno compatiblity, allowing them to breed hybrids in their holdings, which build up armies that will join you in an invasion.
Origins We have already a psionic ascension origin in
teachers of the shroud, but I can think of two new origins for the game:
- The Psi-tronic Brain: Requires Materialist or Machine empire, locks all ascensions except Psionic. Wether it’s a shroud planet in the system, or some artifact, this empire is wracked and assaulted by strange signals. Only a strong mind, or subroutine, can withstand the tide. Or, a Zro colony foresaw their doom, and left a path to their resurrection, by having machines that can store their souls. Regardless, by studying the strange substance, Zro, can the empire master the secret of psionic machines. It’d be cool if this origin got a unique covenant, one inspired by Vashtorr the Arkifane. Actually, there is a shroud being who already fits this concept, maybe take a good look at the S875.1 Warform? The blessing of the Animator of Clay has allowed the warform to survive in the most hostile conditions, and adapt to its corrosive environment
- The Brain-Slugs: Brain slugs, brain slime, neuro parasites, etc. this is the espionage origin. Start with unique governments (slug assembly, slug council, slugorship, the royal slug, corporate slugs, and slug hive). You can choose symbiosis, allowing for non slugs to join as full citizens, or maintain the slug-dom. They don’t need to be slugs, see: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PuppeteerParasite . The main premise is that, unlike a necrophage, these parasites/symbionts don’t need to
kill elevate their hosts, instead they are full on infiltrationists, essentially they have unique espionage missions that allow them to steal pops, gain colony ships, and can covertly infiltrate primitives at any point of their tech tree.
Reject the Covenants: It would be cool if we could pick an option where we decide to safeguard against the Shroud, rejecting covenants and gaining the ability to establish a unique enclave of monks/knights.
Guild Navigator Civic: This Civic is child of
Privatized Exploration and
Augmentation Bazaars. A Megacorp, whose space exploration has been limited by the presence of a Psionic caste of pilots. It: * Can’t be egalitarian. Can’t be Materialistic or a Machine. Also can’t be removed, and limits all ascensions except Psionic. * species starts with a unique trait, navigator gene, that has a chance of giving leaders the latent Psionic trait. Always rolls at least one Admiral of the species to have a unique Navigator trait that boosts jump cooldown. * replaces a leader slot with a powerful guildmaster, which can only be filled by a navigator gene, latent Psionic, or Psionic pop. * Gain access to a limited psi-jump drive, similar to the subspace drive. * While unlocking Zro might make sense, one simple idea that would convey the navigators is to give a -75% reduction in naval capacity from all other or traditional sources, and a unique trade policy that converts trade value into naval capacity. * The Councilor position lowers the distance cost of opening corporate holdings.

2024.05.22 01:21 IAMA_Dumba55_Fan Short Term Guidance - Brokerage Account
I am looking for some thoughts on a short term financial plan. My wife (30) and I (30) are finally in the process of setting up additional investment accounts. Together we make approximately $300k annually at corporate type jobs in a medium-high cost of living city. In the past, we’ve maxed out our 401ks, contributed to HSAs, and purchased some rental properties. We hadn’t really set up additional brokerage accounts until now.
We have approximately $275k to deploy (~$30k in emergency fund, no debt). We are looking to buy a house at the end of the year or very early next year with a budget around $750k. I am looking for a simple strategy for the next 6-9 months. Is a decent strategy to put about $200k in a brokered CD (Ally 5.35% 9/3/24) and the rest in a target 2060 retirement fund (0.12% expense ratio) or are there other things I should be thinking about (treasury bills vs CD given short term gains, not using a target fund etc)
Thanks!

2024.05.22 00:56 millenniumvh Early Paradox building approach and resetting!
| We’ve had a lot of fun building paradoxes and wanted to share some tips on our approach to getting a paradox you love! Main idea: - Unlock 4 rooms in each direction N, E, S, W - Note down Omega and Challenge rooms - Use a point system to determine if your paradox has started off better than average - Reset earlier if you don’t see the rooms you like As you can see in the first 3 photos I explored N,E,S,W but avoided any negative modifiers. Exploration is important at this stage to give you more options and maybe reveal omega/challenge rooms Don’t be scared to reset early on! It is hard getting back to 6,6,6,7 rep and 32 echo isn’t much in the late game. Each reset only cost me 300-400 gold. You want to make sure you get your favourite rooms before grinding rep. Point allocation The fourth photo shows my point allocation (yours could be different). The points system took into account how easy the room is to loot, how well it cascades and how much I need the resources. I also asked myself things like ‘Would I be happy with 3 X-marks vs a Blacksmith?’ I did 5 tests in creative mode, noted down the rooms available and calculated the score highlighted in yellow. I settled on 18 being a good number of points to be happy with. I reset my paradox 3 times until I got lucky with a score of 33! I did follow this paradox guide from version 12. Paradox guide - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fdc_Ha41MqKX_WL4ghMtNXi5UJQ3n5F-h5buT62q3Ao/edit The main difference is assigning points to the rooms you like. I like the points system because otherwise I will end up buying more and more rooms expecting to reveal something good and end up losing time and more resources. I like having a score to compare resets so I can tell when I have something worth keeping. Final paradox The final photo is my completed paradox. Blacksmith, mine, paint, mush, library, 5x dragons and 4x X-marks, crystal caves. I did unfortunately reveal another blacksmith on the final unlock so I couldn’t purchase the second one. Are you happy with your paradox? What are your favourite rooms? submitted by millenniumvh to VaultHuntersMinecraft [link] [comments] |
2024.05.22 00:54 nathanlink169 Fixing Lesser Used Crosspaths
I've seen a fair few "these are my balance change ideas for the whole game" posts, which isn't the goal. Rather than fix entire tower balance in relation to the game as a whole, I want to suggest a few changes to underused crosspaths. They're not meant to magically fix a crosspath, just bring it more in-line with the more powerful/popular one.
Feel free to tear me apart in the comments as that's how these tend to go.
- Dart Monkey
- 2-0-3 Crossbow Pierce increase from 10 -> 12
- 2-0-4 Sharp Shooter crits every 7 -> 6 shots
- If you want group cleanup with the dart, you usually go for the top path. Crossbow tends to be more about range and damage, so the middle path tends to be paired most with crossbow and sharpshooter. These changes are meant to allow crossbow to get through a pack of bloons easier to hit the high-health targets, and the sharpshooter crit increase allows the disparity between how quickly each crosspath actually triggers a crit to be more in-line.
- Tack Shooter
- 2-0-4 Overdrive no longer gains a pierce bonus. 0-2-4 Overdrive remains unchanged
- 2-0-4 Overdrive Pierce 2 -> 1
- 0-2-4 Overdrive Pierce remains at 3
- 0-0-4 Overdrive Cost Cut ($3,400 -> $2,900)
- Because the overdrive gets an extra pierce by default, middle path is generally not used with it. In addition, there are multiple ways for Overdrive to get pierce bonuses that does not include middle path. For that reason, widening the "deal damage vs high pierce" of the overdrive crosspaths seems like a good way to differentiate the two. A little price cut could be good to make up for this pierce nerf.
- Wizard Monkey
- 2-0-4 Necromancer max graveyard count 450 -> 1,000
- 2-0-4 Undead bloon max spawn rate increase +50% -> +100%
- This seems pretty tame at first until you realize that the more undead bloons a necromancer has in its graveyard, the faster it spawns them. The idea with this buff is that the top path would be buffing the actual undead bloons themselves, rather than having the wall of fire to cleanup.
- Banana Farm
- 0-2-3 Value of Bananas are increased by +25% -> +37.5%
- Changes to farm are usually pretty controversial, but there is no reason to ever go for an 0-2-3 farm, save for the fact it is SLIGHTLY cheaper. It makes you less money (2-0-3 makes $720 while 0-2-3 makes $700) and you benefit from the actual money-making less while building into it. This change would allow the 0-2-3 to make more money than the 2-0-3, while the 2-0-3 would still be popular early game due to the benefit you get while building into the marketplace.
- 3-2-0: $800 p/round
- 2-0-3: $720 p/round
- 0-2-3: Old $700 p/round, New $770 p/round
- 4-2-0: $3,750 p/round
- 2-0-4: $2,880 p/round
- 0-2-4: Old $2,800, New $3,080 p/round
I've also just realized all of these proposed changes are for bottom paths. This wasn't planned, they just seem to have the least interesting crosspath options.

2024.05.22 00:33 Bowazon_ Using Flurry as an attack speed buff with Heartseeker - is it worth it?
| Hi guys, after seeing Wudi and a few others use Flurry to buff their Heartseeker attack speed, I decided to actually test this out to understand if it's worth doing this. For context, I wrote the guide on the Heartseeker build and shared it on Reddit and the official D4 discord as well as discussing the build with a few others for some time before then, so I'm very familiar with the build. The Heartseeker guide for season 4 can be read here: https://www.reddit.com/D4Rogue/comments/1crc1ni/season_4_heartseeker_victimise_rogue_guide_by_bowa/ Anyway, this technique of using Flurry to boost attack speed came to be after Blizzard removed attack speed on weapons and significantly nerfed its values in other gear slots. This opened up an opportunity for theorycrafters to find attack speed elsewhere, hence Flurry. But, is it worth it? Testing I ran some frame-by-frame tests for this on the Kyovashad dummy with the following setup and methodology: Setup - Using my eternal testing character with legacy gear
- 14.1% attack speed from gear
- 25.8% basic attack speed from gear
- 60% rapid aspect on a bow
- 16% Heartseeker attack speed bonus on a vulnerable target (kept vulnerable using accursed touch)
- 45% Flurry attack speed bonus after casting with 3 combo points
- Cap 1 attack speed = 59.1% after Flurry bonus, 14.1% without Flurry bonus
- Cap 2 attack speed = 100%
- Expected attack speed increase = 21.02%
- The build was using 2x daggers (condemnation + legendary) for optimal cast speed of Flurry
Methodology - Spam Heartseeker until target stays vulnerable and we gain the Heartseeker attack speed bonus and gain 3 combo points
- Keep spamming
- Cast Flurry
- Keep spamming at least 13+ arrows before casting Flurry again
- Cast Flurry
- Keep spamming at least 13+ arrows before casting Flurry again
The data from this video was then taken at specific frames and put into a spreadsheet. The following data was collected: - When each Heartseeker hit the dummy and the damage number first shows
- When the energy consumption of Flurry takes place
Results See below the screengrabs of the results. How to read this data: - Column E: At what frame in the video Heartseeker damaged the dummy
- Column F: The difference in frame count between the hit recorded in Column E in the current row and the previous row
- Column G: At what frame we predict (based on previous data) Heartseeker would have damaged the dummy in the hits following had we not cast Flurry
- Column H: The difference in frame count between the hit prediction recorded in Column G in the current row and the previous row
- Column I: At what frame in the video Heartseeker damaged the dummy after casting Flurry
- Column J: The difference in frame count between the hit recorded in Column I in the current row and the previous row
- Column K: At what frame Flurry was first cast
- Column L: The difference between when we predicted Heartseeker would hit when not casting Flurry vs what Heartseeker actually hit after casting Flurry
Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Observations - We can see that Flurry introduced an initial 26 to 31 frame deficit between if we were to have just continued casting Heartseeker versus using Flurry to buff attack speed
- After casting Flurry, the average number of frames per Heartseeker shot went from 15 (1/4 of a second) to 12 (1/5 of a second)
- Flurry gradually catches up to the non-Flurry scenario, eventually overtaking just casting Heartseeker by 1 arrow or less
Considerations Although casting Flurry to boost attack speed does net a benefit in the end, some things to keep in mind: - Flurry comes with a 26 to 31 frame deficit, which actually reduces your overall damage output for a short period before catching up. Note that these frames may vary depending on timings or potential RNG
- However, because the Flurry attack speed buff only lasts for 3 seconds, the final amount of extra arrows it shoots is nowhere near as much as the predicted 21% attack speed buff that we were expecting since the initial deficit drags this down
- In effect, we're only looking at roughly an 8% overall damage output buff when played optimally, per 3 second Flurry buff window
- It's worth also noting that the attack speed buff from Flurry starts its 3 second timer when Flurry first starts its animation, so you don't realise the benefits until Flurry finishes casting and you start casting Heartseeker again
- Using this technique also takes up a skill bar slot and requires using combo points instead of using inner sight (which periodically grants you a crit chance buff), so there is also an inherent opportunity cost as well
- This technique may net a slightly more overall benefit if your build lacks attack speed, since the expected buff will be greater. For example, using this technique on a build with 0% attack speed on gear and only the attack speed on Heartseeker will result in an expected 38.79% attack speed buff
- This technique also adds some gameplay overhead as well since the effect duration is 3 seconds and it's only optimal to do this once every 3 seconds and not anymore frequent or infrequent than that. This is very difficult to maintain this level of optimal gameplay, even for a short period
- If using this technique, make sure you use 2x daggers in your build
- This technique is probably best used when Flurry's animation completes before the boss is staggered, but this requires very good timing. Do not use this technique during the last 40% of the boss' stagger period
Conclusion In my opinion, it's not worth using Flurry for its attack speed buff in this way. If you're going to use it at all, it would be: - during boss stagger windows as described above, which in the scheme of things is a ~20% overall DPS buff that you'll realistically only utilise for a total of 15 seconds in every Pit run (8 minutes+); or
- when your build severely lacks attack speed gear on it that the benefits are big enough to take advantage of; or
- you somehow use Flurry itself to deal damage buffs or apply vulnerable or stun, or heal, though realistically not

2024.05.22 00:26 blydzz Atomoxetine HCL vs. straight Atomoxetine - seems to be a difference in effectiveness? (Strattera)
Hi, I haven't gotten any response on the atomoxetine subreddit so I'd like to toss this out to the wider
ADHD community to solicit thoughts or experiences--
I ordered atomoxetine (generic Strattera) from CostPlusDrugs because it was $30 for 3 months of 100 mg which is a great price. The process was fine, but after a while I came to the conclusion it just wasn't working? I really noticed it because a few thought patterns emerged that I haven't felt since before starting the med. So I figure the manufacturer, Rising, made a crap batch and grumbled at Big Pharma.
ANYWAYS I got my next prescription from somewhere else but was annoyed because it was partially filled with Rising pills. Except they were a completely different looking pill.
Looking at the the CostPlusDrugs Rx it was Atomoxetine
HCL vs. just Atomoxetine on the new Rx. That's the only difference I can find besides it being a completely different pill.
Basically what the hell? Is a pill with Hydrochloride so much filler that it's only working at like 25% effectiveness? I know I'll be disappointed at the answer but how is that allowed?

2024.05.22 00:24 StepDent9567 Hiring staff through self-employed business or Ltd company: tax treatment of initial staff cost
Throwaway!
I’m trying to work this out but wanted to put it on here as a sense check as I’m worried I’m missing something.
I’m planning on hiring of a couple of staff to support ongoing business work I do in my self-employed business. However, I am considering setting up as a LTD company for reasons other than the tax benefits (don’t want to get into this now, and not looking for a discussion of LTD vs self employed in this regards).
What I’m trying to work out is: if I spend £30k on staff salary now as a self-employed person, I save approx 40% of that in tax (i.e. approx real cost to me is £18k). Is a ‘similar’ tax relief likely if I start a LTD and pay for the staff as a company expense, initially fronted as a director’s loan?
Tl;dr: if I put £30k into a company for the hiring of staff, will I in real terms pay £30k or a lesser amount to me (sole shareholder) after tax sorted etc.
Thanks!

2024.05.22 00:18 Wizywig Feedback: War Games
Hi, I'm gonna give some feedback on my wargames experience. I know this is a big part of the long term homeworld strategy, so I hope the feedback is helpful. I am NOT going to talk about fleet v fleet or campaign at all, if anything applies to those modes, it is incidental and not intended as the focus of my feedback.
Setting / Map So I feel that the map selection is incredibly limited. The fact is it feels like there are maybe 3 different possible maps for every stage, and that just doesn't feel great. Very repetitive.
Just more variety is needed here.
Spawns I think the Incursion spawns are terrible. It is a war of attrition and it just feels like running a sprint every time and doesn't feel like anything we do ever creates a calm experience. I think challenge is an interesting concept, which I think Blizzard did well in Starcraft 2 co-op, by having difficulties (AI gets smarter, more capable), and eventually mutators (the difficulty remains, which is basically fairly straightforward once you get used to it, and now mutators make you play differently).
The constant nonestop onslaught is okay at first, but stops being fun quickly.
Artifacts and Fleets I put both of these together because I think the two are heavily woven in.
I think the artifact system is interesting but _too_ random. The fact is that I may want to try out say a bomber build with the bomber fleet, with a focus on tank frigates and high damage bombers, or all assault frigates, etc. The problem is the artifacts are so random, sometimes I just get a fun combo of nonestop recon buffs and nothing useful. It just doesn't feel good.
And on that note, the ship comps are very weird given limited resources. For example a comp of 6 assault frigs + 2 support frigs is FAR more hitpoints and damage, than 3 times that cost in interceptors. A frigate at 20% hp that can heal is 0 money lost. 5 interceptors where 4 died is 4/5 of the cost destroyed and unrepairable. I like the Homeworld 2 version where fighters have squads, and as long as the squad is still alive, it can be reinforced. It solved that problem better than homeworld 1's style of individual fighters did. And for a mode where resources are very scarce, this is critical.
Frigates have the added bonuses of if you cap a frigate, you get another free frigate. Good luck capping fighters / corvettes.
So this all leads to very weird situations:
- recon ships are a waste of cash as they'll die and you lose too much cash
- interceptors are the same
- bombers are a specific strategy where if you get lucky on RNGesus roles, you can stealth bomb insta pop destroyers and frigates, and hope not too much cash is lost per run.
- optimal strategies seem to revolve around basically death-balling assault frigates and getting the right random artifacts.
- most of the time, we can't really "fight" and instead have to objective dunk.
What i'd like to see - Get rid of incursions, and replace them with occasional carrier warp-ins. We can now destroy them and create breathing room to repair, rearm, etc.
- Allow us to sabotage the enemy's resources to significantly reduce their ability to reinforce. That way its not just an infinite wave of enemies.
- Make capturing count towards the unit count max. This will at least limit frigates a bit.
- Make artifacts semi-random. Or at least let us choose at least paths we want to focus on. My argument would be to eliminate randomness and let us just choose a "tech tree" that we buy via artifacts. This will create a wonderful progression. The fact that its not random isn't a bad thing.
- Add randomness in the form of mutators. For example every difficulty level will add some:
enemy carriers spawn more units, enemy units cost less, double carriers, enemy assault frigates lob miniature giant space hamsters at you, etc. These can all be interesting random changes that become addons as the missions progress to make the game more challenging, while also not taking away our agency in our ability to execute on strategies with our faction.
- Change up fighters / corvettes to be groups, that way we can micromanage groups retreating and repairing vs just losing cash immediately. I want to see fighters and corvettes changed so that we don't just waste cash on them. This will lead to far more varied tactics. Edit: Just imagine fighters total count is divided by 5, and you build 1 squad of 5 fighters for the appropriate cost. Now only 1 icon to manage, way easier on the selection management side, easier to micromanage, and a far more efficient use of your resources.
- With that, make the ships sleected work similarly to how starcraft selects large numbers of units (small colored icons, etc). So we can still micromanage as needed. The "select damaged" is a good feature, but often hard to manage given that I can issue a dock order, but now I need to order other units and don't have an easy way to do it. The entire selection system needs some very serious re-work to be a good game control scheme requiring micro managing. At a MINIMUM "select damaged" and "select undamaged" would be very useful.
- I think some game design from you guys is needed on how to change the game from a DPS race, to positional gameplay, even to some extent. That way "the blob" isn't the optimal strategy.
Closing thoughts I see the community is very small and not really growing that rapidly. I hope to see wargames changed to a point where everyone will be excited to jump in on it. Finding it hard to find people to play with even among HW enthusiasts.
I haven't even unlocked all the fleets for war games and I'm kinda done with it. Looking at the year 1 pack... I don't even have enthusiasm for buying it because... I just don't play enough to justify spending extra.
Edit: It's not all doom and gloom. I love the graphics, the atmosphere, and the unit designs. I love the idea of the mode and love the idea of it being a very cooperative experience, something I always wanted in homeworld. I think the flaws of the game are absolutely things that can be fixed with a few patches, though some things are probably harder than others.

2024.05.22 00:00 Quartile4 Trade offs Liquibase v. Flyway
Comparing Flyway and Liquibase: Which Tool Fits Your Database DevOps Needs?
Hey
DatabaseDevOps community,
I'm exploring database migration tools and I've come across two popular options:
Flyway and
Liquibase. Both seem robust, but I'm curious about the community's experiences and insights.
Flyway: -
Simplicity: Flyway prides itself on being simple and straightforward, making it easy to get started. -
Java-based: It’s written in Java, but supports multiple languages for migrations. -
Versioning: Uses versioned SQL scripts to manage changes, which is great for transparency. -
Community and Pro versions: Offers a free community version and a paid pro version with extra features.
Liquibase: -
Flexibility: Highly flexible, supporting XML, JSON, YAML, and SQL for defining database changes. -
Extensibility: Allows custom change types and integrations with other tools. -
Advanced Features: Supports rolling back changes, generating database diffs, and more. -
Community and Pro versions: Similar to Flyway, with a free community version and additional features in the pro version.
Key Differences: -
Script Formats: Flyway uses SQL scripts by default, while Liquibase supports multiple formats (XML, JSON, YAML, SQL). -
Complexity vs. Flexibility: Flyway is simpler to set up and use, whereas Liquibase offers more flexibility and advanced features, potentially at the cost of complexity. -
Rollback Support: Liquibase has built-in support for rollbacks, which can be a significant advantage for complex migrations.
My Questions: - Which tool do you prefer and why? - How have these tools impacted your database DevOps workflows? - Any specific scenarios where one tool outperforms the other?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
Feel free to share your opinions, success stories, or challenges you've faced with these tools. Let's help each other make informed decisions!

2024.05.21 23:50 LaLiLuLeLo_0 Everdrive GB X7: Finding compatible Micro SD cards
I noticed that key details for setting up a Micro SD card for the Everdrive GB X7 were scattered all over so I wanted to summarize them in one place. This post also has more info on finding low-power Micro SD cards beyond just "pick a small size from a good brand".
Error F6: FAT Error
Usually indicates that either (1) the Micro SD card draws too much power, or (2) the Micro SD card is formatted with a GPT partition table when
it must be MBR.
Finding low-power Micro SD cards
TL;DR, look for SD cards specifically labeled MLC or SLC.
Flash memory works by storing different voltage levels in flash "cells". Older chips would use "SLC" (Single Level Cell) tech, storing 1 bit per cell. Later came "MLC" (Multi Level Cell), which stores 2 bits per cell. Most newer Micro SD cards use QLC, or 4 bits per cell.
Storing more bits per cell has the benefit of making larger, cheaper storage, but at the cost of reliability
and higher power draw.
This page goes into more detail as it pertains to aerospace, but the same tradeoffs apply here.
So, to find a lower-power SD card, you should
specifically look for MLC or SLC cards. Expect MLC to cost 3-4x more per GB vs what you'd pay for a typical Micro SD card, which will be QLC. I just recently got an 8 GB "SanDisk Industrial MLC" card for $10 and 16 GB MLC card for $14 and confirmed they both read/write without issue, while a different 16 GB SanDisk card that was
not specifically labeled MLC does not work.
Using the right partition table (MBR)
Like the heading says, if you use a partition table, it must be MBR and
not GPT.
I side-stepped this by not using a partition table at all, and just writing the FAT filesystem
directly to the sd card itself, rather than in a partition. I've seen some people have issues with partition tables "automatically" converting to GPT. No partition table = nothing to accidentally convert.
On Linux, to make the filesystem, I ran
sudo mkfs.fat -I -F 32 /dev/sdd -n 'EverdriveGB'
Notice that I specified sdd and NOT sdd1, because I'm not using any partitions at all. You can find the right device on your system with lsblk.

2024.05.21 23:36 StepDent9567 Hiring staff through self-employed business or Ltd company: tax treatment of initial staff cost
What I’m trying to work out is: if I spend £30k on staff salary now as a self-employed person, I save 40% of that in tax (i.e. approx real cost to me is £18k).
Thanks!

2024.05.21 23:28 Life_Passenger5668 Meisner conservatory NYC vs in Berlin - help!
Hi!
i'm new to acting but have come into contact with the Meisner technique over the last year and absolutely love it. I wanted to act and perform as a kid but I didn't have the confidence to pursue artistic dreams as a career. I'm also working on a screenplay and would really love to work in the film/tv industry. For context i'm 31, live in Berlin, but my family is from the Northeast US (I'm US American w European dual citizenship).
I've been going to drop in repetition classes but can't get the idea of doing a longer training program out of my head and am very much in the 'turning 30 and realizing i need to take my dreams seriously' stage of life now. I'm also in the somewhat convenient situation of needing to wait until the end of 2025 to start a licensure program in my "serious" career interest, which gives me not only time but also a bit of existential security (i.e. if family ask what i'm doing with my life at 31 i can easily point to that, making it easier to take risks like acting)
the Berlin studio i've done classes with offers a 10 month Meisner program for about 8k which includes basic meisner training, movement, voice, camera, casting, and material for a reel. I could do this very realistically with money i have in savings, and also the cost of living is significantly lower in Berlin, so paid work gets me further etc. But the industry connections obviously pale in comparison. From my limited experience i think the teachers there are really sharp, honest, and know what they're talking about. my chances of getting accepted to this are also higher than in NYC - neither is guaranteed though of course.
OR i could apply to a conservatory here in NY (where i'm living this summer). It's a lot more money, but the upside of that, i think, is that it ensures a commitment from my end, and if accepted i think the industry connections would make getting work significantly easier. and if the goal is to work, i.e. make money, it seems like this would be a valid investment. the (big) downside is that i'd have to relocate and figure out a LOT of logistics in the span of the next 4 months, which seems borderline unrealistic, so it might have to wait until next year.
Middle ground would be doing the 10 month program in Berlin and supplementing when possible with intensives at the studio in NYC afterwards and hoping that helps me make valuable connections. Or trying to get a spot in a last minute intensive this summer in NYC to get a feel for the studio.
I realize a lot of this comes down to existential issues of security vs. risk, and i'm looking for any advice/perspectives/experience that might relate. Thanks for reading my looong post :)

2024.05.21 23:20 NorCalAthlete [Request] How much would it cost to store body cam footage if a given police department went from default-off to default-on always recording?
I don’t know how much variation there is between frame rates, overwriting, or resolution between departments for different bodycam models, so for now shall we assume 720/30/no overwriting unless someone has links to different mandates / data?
Also I’m not 100% sure if this would come out of the city budget or the police department budget, but I’m basically just looking for the dollar figure of how much it’s costing to store footage in accordance with current guidelines / requirements vs if we forced a switch to always-on recording.
I imagine there would be more battery power required, more backup drives (or at least bigger ones) in patrol vehicles, plus offsite data center storage, plus a system to sort through all the footage and categorize it and whatnot. So if a department budget had allocated, say, $1M per year towards this, would that increase to $2M? $5M? Only incremental to $1.2M? What would that be as a percentage of their overall budget?
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
According to
Axon it’s 720p and 6 months of storage at a minimum, but varies by department.

2024.05.21 23:15 AdEducational3673 Non-US investor, Forex exposure vs lower TER
Hey there, I'm an EU investor lookinng for advice about how to weigh the possible cost of exposure to USD in S&P 500 tracking funds vs. the higher TER of hedged, EUR funds which track S&P500. Assuming i'm planning to hold for the long term, Would you go by the logic of 'the only thing you can control is costs" or is the forex exposure too risky? I also see that some ETFs track S&P500, have their fund currency in EUR but are considered "unhedged", and have higher TER than the USD currency ones. what does that mean? Is the fund currency itself a form of hedging? **EDIT - Clarified the question

2024.05.21 23:12 saggydu Bossing as Werewolf Tornado in the Pit
Hey there! Just got back into D4 and had an old tornado build going. I feel pretty strong now with all the uniques and easily clearing nightmare 100 and I'm up to tier 50 pit. I can cruise through the mobs but the bosses give me an issue since I can't keep up my buffs without killing things.
So how is the best way to boss when you can't change gear mid-pit? Usually I'm switching between wolf/bear to keep up buffs, but when I get to the boss my trample and roar are in CD most of the fight.
What's the best rotation for bosses? - Right now I usually Roar before the boss room to get the damage buff, throw down ravens, poison creeper, spam a few tornados, trample of spirit and to reup the dmg buff, tornado till I run out of spirit and run around like a donkey spamming a tornado when I get enough mana.
**I'm using the Maxroll Tornado Druid end game build for tree/paragon. I have equipped Tempest Roar, Wildheart Hunter, Hunter's Zenith (I know it's not good for bosses but this is during the Pit and can't change I dont think?). Max resists and Armor capped.

2024.05.21 22:57 darginmahkum Yet another Ark 2nd Gen 55" vs G9 57" (or Z57) post
Hi all. I am a software developer trying to decide for his next monitor. I have seen several posts about 55" Ark vs 57" Neo, but none of them I have seen were from a developer point of view.
I was initially considering the 57" but vertically the resolution doesn't provide much estate, especially considering the scaling factor / size of the fonts I need to use, whereas the 55" 16:9 form doesn't have horizontal space but I can use smaller fonts / no scaling, so I would probably still have quite a lot of space - looking to open 4 split editors (like with Visual Studio Code) side by side, and I would have a lot of vertical space.
One problem though, Ark (2nd gen) costs about 2500€ in Germany whereas Neo 57 is about 1800€, and I am not so sure about spending that much on Ark. I was also hoping that some upgrades would be possible only by upgrading the one connect box, but apparently that is also not guaranteed.
So, has anyone evaluated the two from a software developer (with occasional gaming) point of view? Thanks!

2024.05.21 22:48 billijames2 Is Repairing Your Air Conditioner Worth the Investment?
| Is it worth repairing an air conditioner? Explore the financial implications and long-term benefits of repairing versus replacing, and consider the expertise of Patriot Appliance & Air Conditioning Repair Service for professional HVAC services in Austin, TX. Is Repairing Your Air Conditioner Worth the Investment? Introduction: Exploring the Decision to Repair or Replace an Air Conditioner When facing the decision of whether to repair or replace an air conditioner, homeowners often grapple with the financial implications of both options. Repairing an air conditioner can be a cost-effective solution in the short term, but it's essential to consider the long-term benefits and potential drawbacks. For example, if the repair costs for an older unit start approaching the price of a new air conditioner, it may be more practical to invest in a replacement that offers improved efficiency and performance over time. Moreover, making an informed decision based on cost-effectiveness and long-term benefits is crucial for homeowners. Understanding the average costs associated with air conditioner repairs and the factors influencing these costs can help in evaluating the overall value of repairing versus replacing the unit. By weighing the financial implications alongside the expected lifespan and efficiency of the air conditioner, homeowners can make a strategic choice that aligns with their budget and cooling needs. Furthermore, Patriot Appliance & Air Conditioning Repair Service in Austin, TX, stands out as a trusted provider for professional HVAC services, offering expertise in assessing air conditioner issues and providing tailored solutions [Customer]. By partnering with a reputable service provider like Patriot Appliance, homeowners can access reliable guidance and quality repair services that ensure efficient cooling solutions for their homes. Understanding Air Conditioner Lifespan When considering whether to repair or replace an air conditioner, understanding the lifespan of the unit is essential. [Regular maintenance]( https://patriot-appliancerepair. href="?id=6746">HVAC maintenance significantly impacts the longevity of an air conditioner, as proper care can help extend its operational life and performance. For instance, scheduling annual maintenance checks and promptly addressing minor issues can prevent premature wear and tear, ultimately prolonging the lifespan of the unit. Additionally, environmental factors such as climate conditions and usage patterns play a crucial role in determining how long an air conditioner can function effectively. Homes located in regions with extreme temperatures or high humidity levels may experience accelerated wear on their cooling systems, necessitating more frequent repairs or replacements. By acknowledging these influences, homeowners can better anticipate the lifespan of their air conditioner and make informed decisions regarding maintenance and replacement strategies. Furthermore, statistics on the average lifespan of different types of air conditioning systems can provide valuable insights for homeowners evaluating the condition of their units. For example, central air conditioners typically last between 15 to 20 years, while window units may have a shorter lifespan of around 10 years. By comparing these averages with the age and performance of their own air conditioner, homeowners can gauge the potential need for repairs or replacements in a timely manner. Factors to Consider When Deciding to Repair or Replace [Energy efficiency]( https://patriot-appliancerepair.SEER ratings, such as the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), are critical factors to consider when deliberating between repairing or replacing an air conditioner. Newer air conditioners with higher SEER ratings offer improved energy efficiency, translating to lower energy bills and reduced environmental impact. For instance, upgrading to a high-efficiency unit can lead to significant long-term cost savings while enhancing the overall comfort and sustainability of the home. Moreover, the environmental impact of disposing of old air conditioners underscores the importance of choosing energy-efficient replacements. By opting for newer models with advanced technologies, homeowners can minimize energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint. These advancements not only contribute to cost savings but also align with eco-friendly practices that promote environmental stewardship and energy conservation. Additionally, technological advancements in new air conditioning units play a pivotal role in enhancing energy savings and comfort levels for homeowners. Features such as programmable thermostats, variable-speed motors, and smart technology integration improve the overall efficiency and performance of modern air conditioners. By exploring these innovative options, homeowners can make informed decisions that prioritize energy efficiency, comfort, and long-term savings. Average Costs of Air Conditioner Repairs Understanding the average costs associated with air conditioner repairs is essential for homeowners evaluating the financial implications of maintaining their units. Detailed cost breakdowns of specific repair components, such as compressors, evaporator coils, and refrigerant leaks, provide insights into the expenses involved in servicing an air conditioner. For example, the cost of fixing a refrigerant leak can vary significantly based on the severity of the issue, highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis and cost estimation. Moreover, the labor costs associated with different types of air conditioner repairs contribute to the overall expenses incurred by homeowners. Professional HVAC technicians charge varying rates for labor based on the complexity of the repair task, which can impact the total cost of repairs. By comparing the costs of repairing an air conditioner with the upfront investment required for a new unit, homeowners can make informed decisions that align with their budgetary constraints and long-term maintenance goals. Furthermore, conducting a cost-benefit analysis that considers both material and labor costs is crucial in determining the most cost-effective solution for air conditioner issues. Evaluating the potential longevity and performance improvements offered by repairs against the investment required for a new unit helps homeowners weigh the short-term savings of repairs against the long-term benefits of replacement. By factoring in these cost considerations, homeowners can make decisions that optimize the value and efficiency of their air conditioning systems. These assurances protect homeowners from unexpected repair costs and ensure that any post-repair issues are promptly addressed by the service provider. By choosing a reputable HVAC repair company like Patriot Appliance, homeowners can benefit from the convenience, expertise, and reliability that professional services offer. Furthermore, the importance of licensing and certification cannot be overstated when selecting an HVAC repair service. Certified technicians adhere to industry standards and best practices, ensuring that repairs are conducted safely and efficiently. By partnering with a reputable and accredited repair company, homeowners can access high-quality services that prioritize their comfort, safety, and long-term satisfaction. Common Issues that Homeowners Can Address Addressing common air conditioner issues promptly can help homeowners avoid more significant problems and costly repairs in the future. For example, troubleshooting minor issues like warm air blowing from vents, refrigerant leaks, constant running, unusual noises, or insufficient airflow can prevent these problems from escalating. By taking proactive measures to identify and resolve these issues, homeowners can maintain the efficiency and performance of their air conditioning systems. Moreover, neglecting minor air conditioner problems can lead to more severe malfunctions and potential safety hazards within the cooling system. For instance, ignoring a refrigerant leak can result in system breakdowns and environmental contamination, posing risks to both the air conditioner and occupants of the home. By staying vigilant and addressing minor issues promptly, homeowners can safeguard the functionality and safety of their air conditioning units. Additionally, understanding the limitations of DIY repairs and the associated risks is crucial for homeowners attempting to troubleshoot air conditioner issues independently. While some tasks like cleaning air filters may be manageable for homeowners, complex issues such as refrigerant leaks or compressor failures require the expertise of professional HVAC technicians. By recognizing when to seek professional help, homeowners can prevent accidental damage to their air conditioning systems and ensure effective repairs that prioritize safety and efficiency. ac repair When to Opt for Repair Over Replacement Determining whether to repair or replace an air conditioner involves evaluating a combination of factors, including the age of the unit, repair frequency, and repair costs. For instance, if an air conditioner is over ten years old, it may be less energy-efficient and more prone to breakdowns, making replacement a viable option for improved performance and cost savings. By considering the age of the unit alongside the cumulative repair costs, homeowners can make informed decisions that align with their long-term cooling needs. Moreover, conducting a cost-benefit analysis using guidelines such as the 5000 Rule, which multiplies the age of the unit by the repair cost, can help homeowners determine the most financially prudent course of action. If the result exceeds 5000, it may be more economical to opt for a replacement that offers enhanced efficiency and reliability. Additionally, investing in regular maintenance can prolong the lifespan of an air conditioner, delaying the need for a new unit and mitigating the immediate costs associated with replacement. Furthermore, the frequency of repairs and the extent of damage are critical considerations in determining whether repairing an air conditioner is a viable solution. Ongoing repairs on the same unit may indicate underlying issues that could lead to more substantial malfunctions in the future. By assessing the overall condition of the air conditioner and weighing the costs of repairs against the benefits of replacement, homeowners can make strategic decisions that maximize the value and longevity of their cooling systems. The Impact of Energy Efficiency on Decision Making Energy efficiency plays a pivotal role in the decision-making process when considering whether to repair or replace an air conditioner. Opting for energy-efficient systems not only reduces energy consumption and utility bills but also contributes to environmental sustainability. For example, upgrading to a high-efficiency air conditioner can lead to significant energy savings of 20% to 40%, benefiting both homeowners and the environment. Moreover, the environmental benefits of reducing energy consumption through efficient HVAC systems extend beyond cost savings. By minimizing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable living practices, homeowners can contribute to a greener future while enjoying enhanced comfort and performance in their homes. Energy-efficient air conditioners offer improved cooling capabilities and lower operating costs, making them a practical and eco-conscious choice for homeowners seeking long-term efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, the availability of government incentives and rebates for upgrading to energy-efficient air conditioners incentivizes homeowners to choose greener cooling solutions. These financial incentives, coupled with the long-term cost savings associated with energy-efficient systems, make investing in high-efficiency air conditioners a smart and environmentally responsible decision. By leveraging these incentives and embracing energy-efficient technologies, homeowners can create comfortable living environments that are both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Tax Incentives and Rebates for High-Efficiency Systems Exploring tax incentives and rebates for high-efficiency HVAC systems can significantly impact the decision-making process for homeowners deliberating between air conditioner repair and replacement. Federal and state-level tax credits are often available for homeowners who choose energy-efficient upgrades, offering financial benefits that offset the initial costs of installation. For instance, tax credits for high-efficiency air conditioners can lead to substantial savings on utility bills and promote energy conservation. Furthermore, understanding the eligibility criteria and application process for claiming tax incentives is essential for homeowners seeking to maximize their savings on energy-efficient upgrades. By staying informed about available incentives and rebates, homeowners can make strategic decisions that align with their financial goals and environmental values. Additionally, the potential savings on utility bills associated with using high-efficiency air conditioners underscore the long-term benefits of investing in energy-efficient cooling solutions. Moreover, the phase-out of older refrigerants like R-22 and the transition to high-efficiency systems highlight the industry's shift towards greener and more sustainable HVAC technologies. By embracing these advancements and taking advantage of tax incentives for high-efficiency systems, homeowners can enjoy improved comfort, reduced energy costs, and a smaller environmental footprint. Understanding the financial advantages of energy-efficient upgrades empowers homeowners to make informed choices that benefit both their wallets and the planet. DIY Air Conditioner Repair: Pros and Cons While some homeowners may opt for do-it-yourself (DIY) air conditioner repairs to save money, it's essential to recognize the pros and cons of this approach. Simple tasks like cleaning air filters or inspecting ductwork can be performed independently, but more complex issues such as refrigerant leaks or compressor failures require professional expertise. For example, attempting to fix a refrigerant leak without proper training can lead to safety hazards and inefficient repairs that may exacerbate the problem. Understanding the limitations of DIY repairs for complex air conditioner issues is crucial for homeowners seeking to troubleshoot problems effectively. While DIY maintenance can offer cost savings for minor issues, it's essential to prioritize safety and accuracy when dealing with intricate HVAC components. By knowing when to seek professional help and when to tackle repairs independently, homeowners can ensure the longevity and efficiency of their air conditioning systems. Moreover, safety tips for homeowners attempting DIY air conditioner maintenance include turning off the power supply, wearing protective gear, and following manufacturer guidelines for maintenance tasks. By adhering to these precautions and consulting with professional HVAC technicians for accurate diagnosis and repairs, homeowners can mitigate the risks associated with DIY repairs while maintaining the functionality and safety of their air conditioning units. Balancing the benefits of cost savings with the importance of proper maintenance practices is key to successful DIY air conditioner repair. repair service Choosing the Right Repair Service Selecting the right repair service for air conditioner issues is a critical decision that can impact the performance and longevity of the cooling system. 2024.05.21 22:46 DHawkInSky PMBA from Texas Tech or EMBA from UT San Antonio
Cost wise - pretty similar, UTSA slightly more expensive.
Academic Track - Tech has specializations (specifically interested in supply chain for my current role) whereas UTSA only has a general track with some courses I likely couldn't leverage in my career (Cyber security)
Other than that, any difference in the EMBA vs the PMBA?
I am 33 and on a good track with my current company, they will pay for roughly half the cost of either of these programs. I am not looking currently to switch companies or industries but I feel as to be considered for the next promotion and VP status, they would like for me to have the credential and protect a little bit from an outside hire when my boss retires.
Thanks for any insight!

2024.05.21 22:34 Originalaudiotinker Out of pocket cost- prediabetic- how much in UsA are you paying .25 vs .5 a mo?
I got prescribed OZ .25. I currently have a 4 week supply and it cost $1000. I am 300+ lbs and pre diabetic with PCOS and insulin resistance, adhd, and autoimmune disease. This will be life changing for me. ✨ My question is when you moved up from .25 to .5 was it twice as expensive every month? If I have my doc send in a prescription for a higher dose since it’s the same pen do you have to get two a month therefore it would be $2000? I’ve seen ppl saying they pay $1000 for .25 and for .5 and for 1mg, but doesn’t that make the cost go up significantly? I’m trying to understand and I feel so dumb here. I use the singlecare coupons and get it through Costco.
