2024.05.21 22:28 Mysterious_Post813 Thoughts on my homebrew The Bunker blueprint, or at least what i got so far?

The game opens with constant gunfire and artillery shells bursting, the sound of men yelling as gunfire stifles the darkness of the night. We focus in on a platoon of troops in a foxhole, like lightning a shell hits close to, wiping out most of the men. As the ringing of the remaining ears clear they realize they need to retreat as they can no longer stay in the tight, cramped, flooded hole they've found themselves in and the only way back is up.
Every player must roll a d10, the player with the lowest role finds a piece of wood stuck within their leg, not bleeding but obstructing the ability to run without help, the players decide to deal with the issue there and then or deal with assisting the injured player in the retreat to try and fix it in a safer location.
As the players leave the foxhole a machine gun fire begins to target the group
Triggers a sequence
Flairs shoot lighting up the battlefield as you hear a whistle from the enemy blows They're crossing no man's land.
This sequence where the players must make a 200-250yd dash for a trench behind the foxhole.
Players take priority in turn rotation
Fleeing is (Mov x 5 =x yd)
Every player must make a dex roll on their turn
-a critical success allows them to run uninhibited
-a regular success causes equipment to get snagged on barbed wire causing them to get slowed
-a failure causes you pouches or bags to rip dropping a small amount of ammunition
-a critical failure causes you to get cut by barbed wire dealing 1d4 damage
Players carrying injured role with penalty die
On the machine guns turn roll to full auto at players but role with triple penalty dice due to multiple shots, out of range, and fast targets. You can decide volley size and damage per shot, BE NICE it's just the beginning
Once all players have made it across no mans land they will arrive at the door of a rather large bunker, they bang on the door and request assistance. After a bit of pleas a slot on the large door opens with a bun barrel sticking out. A rather shooken young man asks the players to tell him “where are you from” clearly trying to see if the players are enemies. A player can say anything but the second the man hears perfect english or french he swings open the door. The players see a young man with a shotgun, couldnt be over 20 years old. He commands the players to get in fast. As all the players enter he immediately goes to slam the door shut seeming to struggle to do so.
You meet Bert Newman a strapping young man from new york a very charming quick witted kid, he's always there to boost morale and is always ready to get work done. Its best to slowly show off his personality with small talk while he leads you down the winding halls.
After a few turns and twists you arrive at a sort of check point with a man with a british bren gun points his barrel down the hall, directly at Bert and the players.
You meet Rook a very large man sporting a very clean uniform, he seems concerned and Isn't too welcoming to the new residents, hes a harsh with his words, and presents himself as no nonsense, he does have a soft spot for Bert, able to handle his constant cracks and stories. I recommend making some dialogue for them to have every now and then to show their relationship.
After the players are done interacting have rook notice the player with the injury if it hasnt been taken care of he’ll direct the players to go to the infirmary to get fixed up. Have Bert offer to show them where to go. On the way to the infirmary try to keep engaging with the players as Bert
As the players arrive they will notice a large room with a few injured men, a very poor sight to behold. Once you arrive at the entrance you will meet a beautiful young lady dressed in a nurses gown
This is Louise, say hi to Louise :D. A pretty woman with a caring face, but with a hint of concern and fear.
She welcomes you and immediately notices the protruding fragments sticking out of the injured player, she looks back up and tells them to take a seat. The players can interact with Bert more, with each other, or Louise. Try to have Bert and Louise interact if you can, they are great friends.
After the player is patched up they can leave. They can follow Bert back to rook where Rook will give you the task to retrieve barbed wire from the armory as they want to start adding more defenses for the door incase of being invaded. Bert will again offer to guide the players
You begin your journey to the armory, once again try to interact if you can, mention what could have brought Bert to the war and his family. At a certain point Bert will trip a grenade wire trap, everyone roles a dex or dodge role. Bert is killed in the blast anyplayer that fails gets knocked to prone, you can determine if they were close enough to take damage. After all the dust clears the players see Bert's body slumped against a wall lifeless, they can't save him. If the players decide to search him they will find a mostly burnt map of the bunker, some ammo for a shotgun and a letter addressed to what you can assume is his family.
If the players continue to go and retrieve the barbed wire they will get a chance to change their weapons if they choose. As they return they notice Bert’s body is now gone, with a blood trail leading around an separate hallway
Thank you for reading!!!

2024.05.21 22:26 FatherOfReddit Really Need Advice on "Taking The Leap" - 1 year out of college and feel like a corporate brokie

Please, only serious answers only.
I'm in a bad place.
I've been working for the past year and have saved 0 money.
Yes, this is my fault, but I also needed to purchase some basic necessities. I have a nice bed, a nice desk, nice clothes, great shoes, a good set of shirts, a great microphone and camera, a nice desktop, etc.
Basically I own everything I need to be presentable and start an online business.
I did exceptionally well in my 1st year of work - going from a small BDR patch job to a regional BDR for our company's East Coast (I work in a publicly-traded tech company).
I am interested in Higher Ed as a field and have always wanted to build EdTech.
I have skills as a BDR, Inbound Closer, Designer, Marketer, Writer, and know some people in the VC World.
I will be moving to San Francisco in August to be with some friends. This is a non-negotiable.
I'm not sure what I want to do but it's definitely not this corporate job. I'm working 8 hours and I can feel myself wasting so much time and potential.
I want to get right, be responsible, and take full control back over my life but I'm not sure how to do it.
I feel like I have given all of myself away to this company and I haven't saved any money so I'm not sure how I'm going to do this.
In a month my lease at my place ends. I'll have around $2000 and exactly 1 month to do whatever I need to be set up for living in SF at $1600ish per month.
I have a couple people interested in hiring me for my skills, either full time or as a consultant, and I'm thinking of charging each of them $6000/mo for services, and find 3-5 companies to work for. That would be a win for me but I'm not sure how to present and sell myself like that because I've only ever sold other peoples' products.
Living with parents for a month is an option but I don't really want to do that unless I have to. Would rather travel, live in a hostel, and be far away from Bay Area for a month since I have almost no real travel experience.
Can I just send it? Is it safe to take the jump and just say f-it to everyone trying to tell me otherwise?
I don't know if there's any other way for me to truly free myself than to just say F it and see what happens.
I honestly don't care what happens i just have people who depend on me and they're the only reason why I haven't left yet - They expect me to move into SF in August.
Thanks, hope I can get some decent advice.

The lecture was supposed to be on Rationality 101, apparently not for Newcomers only. Serene was there to have her back but G was having a hard time focusing.
The boring black uniform more fitting for a hotel receptionist defaced the godlike beauty standing in front of a huge screen. Gentry couldn’t believe her eyes: this was the man she had her hands on a little while ago?
No, it couldn’t be.
It had been just an avatar, too perfect in its unblemished visage, too pure for this world. Yet the man whose face she remembered as if it was etched on the back of her eyelids, who she’d been constantly thinking about, who her hands itched to snatch, was standing right there, in the flesh.
Back in the dreamy simulated world she caught herself thinking that a trim waist like this couldn’t anatomically work on a human, yet here he was: a towering spread of fit shoulders perfectly balanced above the flexible whip of his midsection. The light-grey eyes that betrayed every movement of his pupils were as real as the ones that reflected the mock moon during her test. Below them lay the sharp slope of the cheekbones one could cut themselves on.
The only thing a bit different, apart from the outfit choice, was the young god’s hair. In the simulation, it was flowing and probably too long to be practical. This person’s mane was much shorter and fell down his neck in a neat ponytail, tastefully tamed with a single hairpin.
She had to get her hands on this treasure.
He was making last minute preparations for the lecture, looking through the papers on the desk, dark strands framing his face, light grey eyes sharp in careful concentration.
Professor Q, huh.
He said this was his name, and so did the note on the lecture hall door.
She was sure it was the man who had melted in her arms making the most delicious sounds a male throat could produce.
Had he recognised her?
Unlikely.
At the time of the simulation session, she didn’t have a camera that could pick up her facial features but just to be on the safe side, she decided to go by “G” in his class. There were bound to be lots of people with a name starting with a G, right? What would be the odds it was this particular newcomer that Q had tested that would end up in his class?
The man finally lifted his eyes at the audience and a gentle smile momentarily graced his features before disappearing as if he didn’t see someone he’d expected to.
The holoboard on the wall behind him obediently lit up following his nonchalant gesture. Gentry found it annoying that one needed a pair of special glasses to see all the augmented reality stuff and really navigate the city but again, with Sereen’s help she had more or less gotten used to it in the couple of days she had to deal with the necessities like settling down, getting food and finding her way around Ashtapada.
Still, could they use a piece of chalk or, at least, a marker to write on the board? No need to show off your Fully Automated Luxury Space Communism tech just to write a couple of notes on the board!
On second thought, high-tech-crazy or not, if this city brought up men like this one, she would definitely do her best to stay here to… reap the benefits!
They took a desk next to a huge clear floor-to-ceiling window that overlooked the winter garden.
“Professor Q seems a little distracted today,” Sereen said, swiftly tapping a couple of buttons on G’s wrist to show her how to confirm that she was attending the lecture. “He’s usually much more chatty and friendly. I wonder what got into him.”
“Is he?” Gentry responded with an artificial air of indifference. “I just hope he’s more open to a discussion than that Poe guy.”
“He is! And Professor Poe isn’t that bad,” Sereen reprimanded before chuckling a little — since his little secret became known to students, he became known as Holopoe. “Just wait and see, it’s gonna be a blast. Q’s lectures are always very engaging.”
It proved to be utter bullshit.
After fiddling with the symbols on the interactive screen for ten minutes into the class, students getting more and more agitated behind his back, the lecturer seemed to give up. Turning back to the audience, he absentmindedly nodded to a couple of people in the lecture hall and sighed with a painfully fake smile.
“For today’s class, we are going to need to read a certain extract from a book,” he said, tone apologetic for some reason, but it solidified G’s conviction that she already knew this person. “I’ve just sent it to each of your wristcomms. We’ll have some quiet time and read it by ourselves, alright?”
“Reading from the comm?” Sereen mumbled to herself. “Couldn’t he just print them out?”
The rest of the students’ grumbles showed that they shared her disappointment. Q could only hopelessly smile again before returning to his work on the board.
Reading from the little semi-transparent screens was indeed torture. Quickly giving up on trying to awkwardly use gestures for scrolling through the text, she looked out of the window to entertain herself with the garden outside. From the modest height they were sitting at, the people below were quite discernible, partly hidden by the greenery, spread here and there in small groups and pairs. Gentry longed to be there, too. What was the use of being here with the most attractive person in the whole world if the only thing she could see was his back?
Well, the back didn’t look half bad, if she was honest, and what was below also pleased the eye.
But still. It would soon bore even the most easily entertained.
Her gaze fell to a small clearing where a lone male figure was sitting, writing something in a notebook. By the looks of it, the notebook was a real paper-made thing without the bells and whistles usual for Ashtapada. The next thing G noticed was a pair of slender legs, barefoot, stretched to dip the toes into the clear water of the artificial stream.
God bless the urban designers of this place!
The figure lifted the head and in an inconceivably graceful motion, swung the long blond bangs away from the face.
G straightened her back. Was it... Ok, maybe Q was the most handsome man she’d seen in her life but this... This was the younger boy she’d noticed a couple of days back, the one in a plaid skirt, shamelessly flirting with everyone within reach. Today, he wasn’t wearing one but the blue jeans hugging his thighs, rolled up almost to the knees, presented a picture just as tantalizing. Even with the hair was a completely different colour, even though the half-up, half-down style kept his face hidden, she was absolutely certain it was the same person.
Just you wait, young beauty, as soon as this “lecture” was over, your princess in shining armour was coming to pick you up!
Suddenly snapping out of the dull weariness, she turned on the auglasses S helped her obtain earlier and tapped away on her comm screen.
What a chance to give the local text sharing feature a go!
“The garden is pretty, but with a blossom like you, it is truly breathtaking. I wonder if anyone has picked this sweet flower or if anyone dares to,” she typed a cheesy note and folded the message into a neat 3D figurine of an origami paper crane with her fingers in the air.
Was S watching? Screw it, even if she was, she couldn’t read the message with her glasses off, right?
Carefully aiming the device at the lone figure, she launched the crane downwards, and it fluttered like a weightless butterfly in spirals, through the glass and right into the young man’s lap, not disturbing the notebook pages. He started at first at the intrusion but then turned his own glasses on and unfolded the message. A shy smile appeared on his plump lips, and he looked flattered, turning his head around to see if the sender was in sight. Catching no one, he typed something below the initial message and deftly folded it back into a crane that, to G’s surprise, flew directly at her, in uneven spirals along the wall. The man traced it with a smile, propping himself back on his arms, his whole slim body and face on full display now.
God, was he good-looking.
Easily passing the physical border of the glass again, the crane crashed into Gentry’s wristcomm, dutifully delivering the message and betraying her tactical position at the same time. An amused kind of surprise showed on the young man’s face and he waved at her to show that she had been exposed. She waved back, trying to look nonchalant but probably failing miserably.
Very smooth, G, way to go.
The message read, “Is a flower only good for looking at? Not this one.”
Oooh, this boy was playing with fire!
“Hey, G,” Sereen nudged. “Have you finished reading?”
“Mm? Oh, yeah.” Gentry lied easily. She had skimmed the first couple of paragraphs and was sure she’d be able to come up with something if asked.
“Done everybody?” the deep gentle voice called from the holoboard and G’s attention snapped back to the dignified face.
The class murmured affirmatively.
“I’m sorry today’s lecture isn’t as fun as usual,” he admitted. “I must say I’m still unsure how to approach such complex topic as this one. But with your help, I hope we’ll figure it out.”
Everyone seemed to perk up.
“You just read an extract on paradoxes,” Q went on. “And you might be wondering why we are raising a philosophical topic on a rational thinking course.”
“There you go,” Sereen whispered. “He’s back to normal!”
G humphed. This did seem interesting. Was it a good idea to read the extract after all?
Q continued, “In the text, you might have encountered the definition of a paradox. Would anyone explain it with their own words?”
A raised hand and the lecturer’s nod brought some courageous soul to their feet.
“It’s when you start with the correct premises, use consistent logic but wind up with an impossible conclusion,” they said. “There are three types: falsidical, veridical and antimony-type, which are...”
“Correct,” Q smiled and nodded the person back down. It was a smile worth starting a thousand wars over.
“Now there’s a reason why I asked you to read about them. Why do you think people have been fascinated with paradoxes for such a long time?”
S raised her hand and received a kind invitation.
“I might be wrong,” she said. “But it seems that they point at the limitations of our thinking, things that seem rational but in fact aren’t. We feel that with our all-conquering logic we can solve any puzzle but it’s not always the case. Right?”
“This is very insightful,” the teacher confirmed. “It is believed by many that what’s rational is true and therefore what rationality cannot explain must be false.”
“I definitely know someone who would die on that hill,” Gentry grumbled under her breath.
“I’m sorry?” Q asked. “Is there something you wanted to add... sorry, I don’t know your name?”
Still half mad with professor Poe, Gentry stood up. “It’s G, I’m a Newcomer. I was saying how a human mind can fool itself into thinking it knows what it looks at as long as it makes sense. But in reality, it’s not there, like the sky.”
That was the only thing she remembered from that last lecture! She felt the tips of her ears heat up but the kind and considering look on Q’s face showed her gamble paid off.
“These are very insightful observations, G, why don’t we try exploring them together?” — he waived her to sit down and turned back to the class — “Five minutes to discuss how paradoxes might reveal the weaknesses of rational thinking. Send your answers to the board when you’re done.”
“Whoa, daring as usual,” Sereen smiled. “I knew you’d enjoy his class.”
“Now, consider these two questions,” Q said to another student who stood up at his hand wave. “If an unstoppable force meets an indestructible object, what is going to happen?”
The person seemed to contemplate it for a while and the teacher didn’t rush him.
“Isn’t it one of those which are impossible to solve because the existence of the one automatically disproves the existence of the other?”
Q nodded, “Correct. The second one about the barber in a small town is of the same sort. Sereen?”
S stood up too, “The one that shaves all and only men that don’t shave themselves?”
“Yes,” he confirmed. “At first, a premise like this seems perfectly reasonable, doesn’t it?”
“It does,” S responded, somewhat rashly. “But it’s clear that a barber like this cannot exist.”
“Wait, really?” Gentry whispered as Q nodded in satisfaction and urged her friend to go on.
“Yes, if we ask ourselves if this barber shaves himself. If he doesn’t, then he is part of the group which he does shave that do not shave themselves, but if he is in this group, then he does shave himself which makes it impossible for him to be this barber by definition.”
While the rest of the class was catching up with the logic, Q’s smile got only wider, more inviting.
“What does it tell us about the nature of the premise then?” he asked.
“That although it seems that it sounds logical on the surface, it is in fact nonsense and we don’t even need to hear the rest of the riddle to discard it completely,” S concluded.
The man chuckled.
“Well, I wouldn’t be that brash, to be honest, but on balance, you’re right,” he said. “If you stay after the lecture, I might recommend a couple of books on the topic. Your Newcomer friend is welcome to stay, too.”
G put up the best of the aloof fronts, “I’d be happy to, Professor.”
“Q is fine,” he smiled again and went on addressing the rest of the class that immediately exploded into a heated discussion.
***
“Basically, what I think we’re supposed to learn from this,” S concluded after a while, standing up so that everyone could hear her. “Is that before applying rationality, we have to make sure that all the premises we are dealing with are in fact realistic. Otherwise, there is no way rational thinking will help us.”
“Excellently put, as always,” Q applauded. “I’d love to see if everyone agrees or has something else to add to the discussion but our time is up. Feel free to write me a letter with your reflections on the topic.”
As interesting as the class was, the urge to leave the premises as soon as the teacher dismissed everyone seemed to be universal and applicable even to the Ashtapadans.
“I have to go now,” Sereen said. “Text you later, ok?” And with a reciprocal nod to Q, disappeared in the doors, joining the rest of the students.
Sadly, she couldn’t recall what they were talking about after the lecture, nor what titles Professor recommended for some home reading. She just hoped she didn’t make a fool of herself.
What Gentry did remember though was that after Q left as well and she came up to the panoramic window, Sereen and the mysterious flower boy were leaving the garden together. And it was hard not to notice that her new friend took off her wristcomm before they took off, and hid it in the tall grass.

2024.05.21 22:25 BrittleWaters Power Generation Priority (Or How To Use Solar + Batteries Before Turbines Are Activated)

I wanted to fully prioritize Solar power + Battery on my power grid, only activating Turbines as a backup when the Batteries are depleted, to minimize overall non-renewable fuel usage (ie maximize the amount of power used from solar). I found a solution isn't 100% efficient and is more complicated than just sticking everything on one power grid, but it does work to prioritize Solar + Batteries before running your Turbines.
Here's a simple example setup: https://i.imgur.com/UpRhXmN.jpeg
The basic design goal is "Run off Solar + Batteries until the batteries are depleted, and only then provide fuel to the Turbines." Because Foundry doesn't have any method of positive control like that, this method operates on the inversion: prevent fuel from reaching the Boilers until after the Batteries are depleted - indicating that the power provided from Solar Panels has been exhausted - and then allow the fuel to reach the Boilers. It does this with the fuel switch in the top left of the picture. The first Conveyor Balancer is set to prioritize input from the fuel loop (rather than the fuel production input), and the second Balancer is set to prioritize output to the fuel loop - both are prioritizing "up" in the picture. Fuel is passed immediately through the Logistics Container (since the output Loader on LV3 is always on and the input Loader on LV1 is also powered). This way, the fuel loop only ever gains as much fuel as can fit on the belts in the loop. As long as the Solar + Batteries are still producing/have energy remaining, the input Loader to the Logistics Container keeps running and fuel never spills over onto the Conveyer leading to the Boilers.
There are 3 Low Voltage (LV) grids. LV1 is where your main production (ie main power consumption) is. You can have your fuel mining/production on this grid as well, doesn't matter. Your High Voltage grid will be feeding into LV1. LV2 is the grid with only the Loaders going into your Boilers. LV3 is the smallest, which only has a single Loader on it as part of the switch that controls the Solar + Batteries to Turbine transition. LV2 and LV3 should be powered with Solar + Batteries such that they are always on - these are the Solar Panel + Battery + Transformer lineups on LV2 and LV3 - if either of these run out of power, the whole system will/might get bricked and you'll have to fix it. One Small Solar Panel and one Small Battery provide enough energy per in-game day to run ~20 Loaders indefinitely, so running out of power is easy to avoid.
The High Voltage grid is shared between the Solar + Battery array and the Turbines, because Foundry doesn't allow you to connected multiple HV grids to the same LV grid.
How It Works:
This switching of Turbines on>off>on>off repeats until your Solar Panels start producing again in the morning.

2024.05.21 22:24 Choice-Possession-55 Was I abused as a kid?

I believe I was. I’ve told friends about my life and I’ve talked to my parents about their treatment, but I keep getting told other people have it worse or I didn’t have it that bad. I wonder if I’m just being dramatic.
Some non-chronological events:
I would ride along with my mom searching for my dad when he would go on drug binges. I watched my dad hit my grandma over and over after he had to turn the car around because he forgot his wallet at home. She started "talking too much". After he beat her, she laid across the backseat in silence. I was silent too. I wished for superpowers so that when he hit her, I would be the one to feel her pain instead. I screamed at the crackhead women my dad invited into the house after he was gone on a drug binge. She threatened to throw me out of the window. My dad stayed silent. My dad invited that same women into the house a few months later, because she apologized to him. My dad used to give me frequent back scratches. He would trail his hand down my back and rub the area just above my butt. My dad was inebriated and knocking on each of our bedroom doors. My mom texted me to not open my bedroom door for him but I needed to pee. By the time I came back, he had a blanket on the ground and was asleep. My stomach sunk. I slept under the bed. My mom dragged her fingernails across my face and asked what I was going to do about it and if I was going to fight back. My dad called me a waste of brain cells because he went down the wrong way in a one way street going to a fair. He turned around and drove home. I locked myself in my room and sobbed and texted my mom that I didn't want to live anymore. I woke up in the hospital after my suicide attempt to my dad in the room. The first thing he said to me was that I must really care what people think about me. In a drafted suicide note, I addressed each person in my life except my mom. My mom found it in my room and photocopied it. She wrote notes on the side and was upset that I didn't write to her. My dad threatened to give me and my sibling up to adopt some children who would actually spend time with him. My dad badmouthed me to a date when I was in the backseat of his car. I filled out a sheet in elementary school for fun with my friends. It was for something like a summer camp. My mom chased me throughout the house and snatched it. She asked if I was trying to send myself away. My dad told me to not tell authorities about him because I'd get taken away. My mom told me I needed to go home. I cried on the way home because I thought she was going to kill herself after she stopped responding to my texts. She left scavenger hunt instructions for the key to her bedroom. Inside her bedroom were letters to each of us detailing that she was leaving my dad. I didn't see her again for months.

2024.05.21 22:24 PBaker2 AITAH for cleaning my back yard?

About 10 years ago my neighbor asked to take down a portion of my 4' chain link fence dividing our property. He wanted to back a storage building into his back yard. I agreed and neither of us replaced the missing 30' (15x15x4) fence. A couple of years go by and I notice he is piling stuff against my house and in my yard. I ask him to move it to his own property. He does eventually.
Meanwhile I moved across town to care for a family member but still go by to check on the property, empty the mailbox, mow the yard, etc.
The encroaching happens a couple more times during that timeframe. He must have had a run in with county code-enforcement, because one day there is wood plank fence that runs from his house across the property line so the last 4x4 is touching my house. Obscuring line of sight into the back yards.
Now looking in, my yard was a nightmare of "treasures" he picked up and piled in my yard.. (his yard was full)... Sanford & Son would've been proud of him. His S%$t was piled 6' high. I was less than enthused.
So, AITAH when I called the junk hauling service. My instuctions were very clear. Here is the property line. ANYTHING on my side of the line is junk including the portion of wood fence, posts, gate, hardware, et all. If It is on my property, it's mine and I want it removed. There was a cement mixer, construction supplies, broken lawn equip, parts and decks to mobility scooters.. Took a couple guys a couple box trucks full to get it done. Cost, $1000+.
or AITAH for sending the bill to the neighbors 70yr old mother whose named as the property owner with a deman letter for reimbursement.
I offered a few options for her and/or her hoarder son to pay off cost of the hauling or we could meet in civil court. She (mom) agreed to cover the cost and I feel that the sting of that interaction will keep her son, the neighbor, in line. If not for the cost, but to avoid his mother's wrath.

2024.05.21 22:23 Intelligent_Art6798 My stepson’s commitment ceremony

My stepson who we have bailed out several times.(no longer except we co-signed for a car lease recently for his fiance) They can’t get married bc he’s her PCA recving $38,000/yr to take care of her- she has an auto-immune disease. They’re not telling people it’s a commitment ceremony. She has no credit, his is low but he does works full time. They secured a venue for $9000–want 9 bridesmaids, asking lots to be in the wedding party. We are raising my sons 2 kids-going to Uni in the fall. Son knows he will have to help. They have no savings. How do I convince them to be more frugal? There are websites with how to budget for a ceremony, relatives that would let them use their home, venues that are feee like parks. My son pays $100 towards kid’s car insurance & thinks that’s enough. Every weekend when they visit, we have to hear about their wedding(commitment ceremony)

Found a big green sticker on my Ambo today with a warning notice for tow. Called my leasing office and they said they don’t allow commercial vehicles. Not sure how I am going to continue the build. Every place I have looked into for storage would prohibit any work to be done. Does storage exist where I could work on my vehicle?
Anyone have any suggestions? I’m in SWFL.

2024.05.21 22:23 CheckForWasps I asked for a copy of the lease to review before signing and the agent said no. [CT]

I'm not sure if this is the policy of the property management company or this particular agent. I thought about just calling the leasing office and seeing what they had to say about but I figured going over the agent's head now could make it difficult to negotiate with them down the line if it got back to them.
Anyways, I'm supposed to sign the lease later this week. Is there anything reason why they wouldn't let me look at it ahead of time, or any language I should be on the look out for in the lease?

2024.05.21 22:22 lilmalchek Got fired, the reason was a lie, and now they’re ghosting me. What can I do?

I was a product designer for an edtech company for over 4 years. The last year and a half has been absolutely horrible - the small product team lost the other product designer, both PMs, and many of the leadership positions including vp of product. The replacement head of product had no experience in tech, but lots of experience in academia (perhaps this should have been a huge red flag). So this person became my manager, as well as the manager of the 2 new PMs.
In the year this new person was manager: -it became clear they had no idea how to manage a designer, or provide feedback, or provide a path for growth - they told me there was no money to backfill the other designer position, or to give me a raise or promotion, but then proceeded to promote 5 engineers and hire two new ones. - they spent weeks coming up with a new business model and product idea that, once work began, was micro managed and turbulent (with regular pauses because company leadership wasn’t aligned) - they literally wouldn’t let us do any sort of research or testing, which caused a lot of friction and definitely got heated a few times - they had no idea what design actually is and constantly asked me to add some delight, while keeping me from getting hints in my job description - they regularly assured me I was doing great, especially every time so brought up the stress I was under, my mental health, and the unsubstianbke pace of design work they asked of me (yet which I continuously met) -they presented constant roadblocks not just to me but to the pm and head engineer as the 3 of us tried to figure out how to try and deliver what they wanted without relying on only assumptions and guesses. -they acted as if they knew everything about how product and design work, and ben though they had no experience. Me, the PM and the head engineer regularly struggled with how to work around or steer them so that we could just do the bare minimum of our jobs. Eventually, the PM and engineer stopped pushing back so much, as we all lost morale and just wanted to get though this huge project /new product release. - they terminated my employment without warning after I delivered the final major piece of the new product (after which I was going on vacation to get married and rest, and then things could slow down, I was assured.)
The kicker is that the reason used was for sharing proprietary information on my portfolio. They said I had the new product on my site. I have proof I didn’t but they pushed back and provided no opportunity ro explain or even ask questions.
It’s clear my incompetent manager got tired of me pushing back, but it burns they lied about the reason and went nuclear without any prior warning. I was honestly flabbergasted. I’ve gotten help from a lawyer friend who has sent one letter but it’s been silent. We’re going to try one more but at this point I feel like this whole system is in their favor and I guess I just needed to vent as I prepare for the possibility that nothing will come from this - no justice or even just.. treating me like a person.
I guess I shouldn’t expect any different after the way I was treated the past year.
I’m really not sure what I’m going to accomplish with posting this. I’m just feeling kinda bitter and hopeless about it all… But if anyone has a similar experience to share, or advice/thoughts, or just a way I can get past this… please share!
Thanks everyone.

2024.05.21 22:20 MrWillowBrooks [Landlord-US-IN] How do I help a Tenant get a non-Tenant to remove property from the rental unit

Tl;DR: at Bottom
I am a landlord in the state of Indiana.
*All names have been changed from their real names.
A handyman friend (after this referred to as Josh) rents only the garage at one of my properties so he can store his tools there. Technically, Josh has a signed lease with me 5 years ago to rent the garage each month but I have never made Josh pay as he is a struggling man and a friend rebuilding his life.
The problem is Josh at some point allowed his friend, (after this referred to as Anton) to store items in the garage. Anton's main form of income is a washing machine/refrigerato appliance etc. repair and buyeseller. These appliances are the items being stored in Josh's garage by Anton. This issue was brought to my attention about 2 years ago.
Josh has pleaded with Anton to remove the refrigerators/appliances from the garage as it takes up the majority of the space but Anton claims since Josh doesn't actually pay any rent, Anton refuses to remove the belongings.
I had thought this was resolved a few years ago but just learned it is still ongoing to the point that Josh is trying to pay Anton to move the appliances out. Anton is refusing.
***My question is this: how do I remove Anton's (non-tenant) property from the garage or take title to everything that is Anton's in my garage (but not Josh's) so i can remove it.
I was considering doing something similar to this:
  1. Send a certified mailed letter to Anton to cease and desist, giving him notice to remove all of his belongings in the garage within 30 days or legal action would be filed against him. (I would do this in hopes of "scaring" him into complying.) Hopefully solving the problem.
  2. After the cease and desist, and 30 days, I would do something similar to when a tenant vacates or abandons their unit but leaves behind personal property. The problem is Anton was never a real tenant, so i am not sure if this is how i would go about taking title to the property to legally remove it. I would de more research but would likely after 30 days, then send a second letter by certified mail giving notice that I am taking ownership over the appliances if not removed within the legally required amount of days. ( Something similar to a mechanics lien/ or something)
I need to do a little more research but I was hoping someone could help me with this situation as it is similar to when a tenant abandons a rental and leaves behind personal property. Have one of your tenants ever left behind a washer and dryer? its trickier because Anton is a non tenant. How do I get title to Anton's property or at least get a court order to have it removed. Is it possible to sue for back rent since he has refused to remove the items for such a long period but Anton is technically not on the lease. I am not sure if appliances are personal property or fit into a different category.
****One extra important thing to note:
When this problem started 2 years ago, when Josh asked Anton to remove the property, Anton threatened to burn the garage down if Josh attempted to remove the appliances (Josh filed this in a police report at that time around 2 years ago).
Tl;DR:
I rent a garage to a tenant. Tenant allowed a friend to store appliances there. Now Tenant cannot get the "friend" to remove the appliances. How do I go about getting the “friend's” appliances out of my tenants garage. I am unsure how long the appliances have been there (2 years?) or if they are consistently switched out over the 2 year period.

2024.05.21 22:19 Dapperdanfan WNY Rental

Below is my recent exchange with my landlord. A short explanation of the scenario is that I moved my family into this duplex rental on the first of the year. The intent is to help the Landlord (LL) and be his "property manager" to flip this property. For reduced rent. (500$) Only thing we have is lease and a verbal agreement for help. 3 months after moving in and little progress is made. He moves to FL and puts the house up for sell. The issues with the house are piling up. Mold, broken locks, windows, sinking floors, etc. I I not have work orders or anything set up with LL. Just a list of issues getting worse. What are my actions? Is he threatening to have the house condemned because of cost of issues?
Renter: The enamel on our bathtub is coming off so quickly it's clogging our bathtub almost daily. Also the lines running to the sink have so much moisture coming off of it we can't store anything under the sink. Also it's got mold starting on some of the wall under it. I'm just letting you know man
LL: Can you fix these things? I appreciate you letting me know but property maintenance was the reason for reducing the rent otherwise I would have charged $600-$650 for you guys or $700-$750 for someone else
Renter: Alright, every message from here out is official. I will send you an itemized list of both of your tenants needs and complaints. This will calculate in cost for materials and compensation for travel and I'll receive no material compensation. The list will range from most severe to least. Dates for est completion may be included. I'll mark priority all this that Breech NY Habilitaty and Repair laws
LL: That would be fantastic I appreciate it man go at your own pace of course I know you work 6 days a week so I have no problems being patient with things being completed
LL: Also I do understand to a certain extent the condition of the property and how some things may not lot good on my part I am still trying to sell it because I don't have the money to keep putting into to fix some these things not saying the property should or can be condemned but I was smart enough to know not to put my life savings into a 200 year old property without loss of rental income insurance so if anything comes up like that I'm given $2,210 a month for up to 24 months or whenever proper rental conditions are restored
tldr; property owner moved out of state with duplex for sale. Maintaince issues are piling up

2024.05.21 22:18 TheTrixter82 Partner has not been allowed his licence after renewing it

Hi. So my partner had to renew his licence. He is diagnosed autistic and several other mental health conditions. He filled in a couple of medical questionnaires about these conditions and now the dvla are not renewing his licence. He is desperately trying to get support for his conditions but unfortunately, as we all know, there is complete lack of support out there.
However, despite having these conditions, he's still a safe driver. Never been pulled for driving offences, never speeds, never drives under the influence of drugs or alcohol, never had points etc and he's been driving 20 years. He's also never been told by a health care practitioner that he is unsafe to drive. I've been with him 20 years so I should know also.
This is so frustrating. He heavily relies on his car. He needs it to get me and his 3 children to health appointments as we are all disabled. We also rely on it to get our children out, as without our car, we are pretty much housebound. He also relies on it to aid his own mental health difficulties as his autism means he can't travel on public transport.
This is really going to cause us severe hardship.
We really need advice. To get legal representation to appeal will cost money we don't have.
He's got an appointment with his gp in June to discuss this and hopefully get them to support his case.
Thank you.

2024.05.21 22:08 4ermione I failed the Double Degree

My advisor told me that my junior year, I could be able to speak to the other advisor to that I could file. I’m currently majoring in a language, but I’ve also wanted to major for a BBA as well. I had one chance to get this right.
I got off the phone with the Business Advisor. I didn’t make it because I failed my last class.
This semester, I had a negligent accounting (2301) professor. She cancelled class more often than she taught. So failing the class took a complete opposite hit to my GPA. I was originally at a 3.1 and now I’m at a 2.8 because I failed. I didn’t even know I failed the class up until last week since the professor graded everything at the last minute, she even disabled the letter grade visibility on Canvas.
So I asked the advisor I that if I got my GPA straightened out by the end of the fall, could I reapply and file for degree plan. She said no, because at that point I would be a senior. (I’m a semester off. So this spring I just started my junior year).
I can minor, but that’s not taken seriously. Majoring in a language isn’t going to make any money. What am I supposed to do now? Two years of hard work and promises went down the drain because I missed my one shot.

2024.05.21 22:07 Fresh_Inspection_107 Car Dealer claiming check got lost on they way to their bank. Can I give the car back?

I applied for a car loan with my bank and got approved. Purchased a new 2024 car from a dealer in Feb with less than 100 miles. Maybe a month and a half later I hadn't received the title or letter from the bank stating how much my monthly payments would be so I called my bank. They told me they sent the check back to the dealer at the end of Feb because it was not endorsed properly on the dealers behalf and missing a signature from one of the two of us on the loan.
I called the Dealer to see if they received the check back and why they hadn't called us. They investigated and of course they have the check back but gave no explanation just asked us to come and sign again, which we did.
Another month and a half later, still nothing. So I call the bank again and ask if they received anything, they haven't. I called the dealer and they investigate and turns out they overnighted the check to their bank but their bank never received it. They are asking me to get another check from my bank and come up there and with it and we do this process over. The car is almost at 5000 miles and is not paid for cause of their mess up, and they did not follow up.
Honestly, I don't even want the car anymore. Can I give them the car back? Technically this is the Dealers screw up and I had to do the dive to figure out what is going here. It seems a little shitty on my part but is it legal? Am I breaking a contract giving the car back? I really wanted to give it back a week later and they said I couldn't and I feel like this could be a blessing.

2024.05.21 22:07 Demonix99 Capital decision

Hi all can anyone help? , I have received a letter that a decision made on 25th June 2022 has been overturned. They are saying we have undeclared or notional capital. This is refering to a house sale that my partner completed and was received £31,000 however she owed her family member £20,000 from loans and payments that she covered during the pandemic and this was sent. It is in her nans account as it's her money now and we do not have access to this account. My partner did not realise that she was ment to report the amount of £11,000 that she was left with as it was under £16,000 however universal credit contacted her and an investigation was launched. She provided all information and what she had spent the money on as she currently has around £5,000 left she honestly didn't realise and this was resolved. They were satisfied with this however they are classing the money within her nans account as our capital now. We don't have access to this money, do not know how much is in this account and have never received any money transferred from this account. We are currently being charged with a years worth of universal credit payment and a continued reduced amount because of that money. We don't have the money and it is not ours so why can they change us a reduced amount because they say it's between 6,000 and 16,000 but it's not ours so we would have to get Paid a reduced amount for money that's not ours or we can't ever change and we would not be able to receive our normal amount? I work and we receive universal credit top up and we are only left with a very small amount each month, the only money that has ever went into our bank accounts are from my work and universal credit top up. This is outrageous as we don't have access to the money, it's not ours and we can't ever get any of it. As well as the letter stating we have an overpayment of a year due to this? I need some help as it all seems like everyone's word against eachother and they are the decision makers so they would have to go against their own decisions which is making this seem pointless that I can get help.

2024.05.21 22:07 Puffss I'm losing my hope in the jobmarket, does someone have advice for me where to look next?

I (30F) genuinely don't know anymore; I got my degree towards User Experience Design with a focus on accessibility and a background in print thinking I'd be able to make this my life. I loved that job so much; I immediately had offers lined up right out of college back in 2017 and it seemed like I was truly building a life for myself. One of my family members got sick, so I decided to work "only" 32 hours to be able to combine taking care of them with my job without getting in much trouble (having one scheduled day for hospital visits works wonders!)
but that all came crashing down. The company that I accepted the offer of to get the experience I needed to truly get my foot into the industry went bankrupt. I ended up having to accept a front-end development job at another company where I suffered Sexual Harassment that still is effecting me to this day. The company after that was absolutely amazing for the first 2 years; but then got an new CEO and suddenly I was expected to work 40+ hours on my 32 contract because they expected 32 hours of ticket work from me despite scheduling me for at least 15 hours of meetings a week; only to then accuse me of "refusing to adapt" and "just wanting to slack off". I eventually got an offer from an old coworker that went to another amazing sounding company because they were looking for someone just like me.
I made the switch in 2022. and at first everything was amazing until they suddenly dumped the workload of 8 people on me causing to work 100 hour weeks. between work and taking care of my family on top of some other private issues I was going through (My relationship had fallen apart and my ex was giving me death threats on top of my family member passing away and another one getting sick and now requiring care) I completely burned out. Eventually they stopped giving me work; undoubtedly in the hopes I would resign myself out of boredom; something I didn't. They eventually ended up firing me in December 2023 with a good Severance package.
I know the job market has been incredibly rough and especially my field has been hit hard with the introduction of AI; but I had hope I could eventually find another job with my Severance package giving me 6 months of time.
Those 6 months are now running out. I applied to 1000's of jobs. Often hearing back that they found someone with more experience, I didn't have enough experience, that I was under qualified, that I was overqualified, that I didn't talk about loving coffee enough in a motivational letter (yes, really. no; it was not for a coffee company)
I even started broadening my horizons and applied to jobs to work in a daycare which we have a severe shortage of workers in, which is a field I always had in mind as a backup. I told them my motivation, how much I was willing to learn and even pay for the course myself. I got denied because I was "overqualified" and "You strive to improve yourself too much and we are afraid you'll get bored might leave us soon"
I'm starting to genuinely give up; I don't really see any options anymore and I genuinely feel like I lost my entire life. I don't have much; because of the housing market I'm forced to life with family and because of that earlier mentioned breakup I'm single and in no way ready to date and build a life that way anymore. My job was my last tether to what feels like an "adult life" and I completely lost it.
I feel completely lost and I'd honestly love some advice.

2024.05.21 22:04 Decent-Principle8918 Why is finding decent housing sooo hard!?

Due to my disability, I am most likely not going to be able to live a normal life.
Thankfully I got access to a voucher program through HUD.
Well I finally got a job, a year ago with me getting renewed for a second year.
Awesome right?!
I thought so because I decided to apply for a townhouse, and didn’t get approved. Even though I can afford it.
I make 949$ a month
Waiver covers 1100$
I would pay around 200-300$
Leaving me with 649-749$
Groceries 0$ (food stamps 250$)
Phone/internet 100$
Transportation 0$
Entertainment 50$
This still leaves me with 499-599$ a month. I can afford it, and I want a larger space.
I’m mad because I thought I was going to get my library finally. Along with hobby room, I like trains and always wanted a play with train models on a track.
There’s no other place even close to the size, I want so I’m pissed this is also subsidize grants, making it cheaper than most places in town.
I just want to start a new chapter in my life

2024.05.21 22:00 joeyboy_m Getting a Schedule A

So, very unofficially I was told that a opening was about to come up for a government manager position. The position they are trying to fill is one I have been preforming for them for a few years as a onsite contractor. I just kind of helped them out when I could adding it to my duties(meeting with contactors, scheduling contractors work around day to day activities on the property etc.) I was told today they are going to finally hire someone to fill this void. I had applied for this position in the past at another location but never got a response. Today I was told that for my area they are going to be filling that position and asked if i was still interested. I said of course the pay would be about the same except id get government benefits. I was told to apply when it opened up that multiple people higher up the chain were aware that I had been preforming the job and my name had already kind of been tossed around that i would be a good fit. however the person who told me this also said that they really need to hire someone with a schedule a letter or a veteran. Again unofficially said if i could get a Schedule A it would all but guarantee me the position. I looked over some of the documentation and i don't see anything that is a clear cut case they only one that kind of applies on the self claimed disability form is i am morbidly obese and have high blood pressure due to it. The last time I applied i was told that having a schedule A letter would help my chances of getting hired so i asked my doctor and he would fill out the paper work and he refused saying they are really referring to someone missing a limb or something that my case wouldn't apply. Even talking to other contacts working for the government they have told me that lots of people they know got it for less serious conditions and that i should be able to get it. I'm not sure how to proceed in this situations i don't want to get the letter if I'm not entitled to it but I'm kind of being told lots of people have gotten it for less of a reason. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated- Thanks

2024.05.21 22:00 whoisaname Fair Housing Act Question Regarding ESAs [USA]

I am an owner-occupant in a two-family. I live in one unit and rent out the other.
Based on my knowledge of the FHA, it does not apply to me because I live in one unit, and the building has four or fewer units. (side note: I don't use this in any way to discriminate, quite the opposite and am very accepting. I just don't pay much detailed attention to the FHA.) Also, my state has no greater restrictions or law than the Federal FHA.
That said, a situation has come up with current tenants. They are almost 10 months into a 12 month lease. They have two pets, a cat and a dog. As part of the lease agreement, they "paid" a pet security deposit and a very small pet fee. It should be noted that I am aware of damage that one of the animals has already done. As of today, I received a text with an image of a letter from an APRN stating the need for an ESA(s). The letter was not very detailed or thorough (about two sentences long, and I was under the impression that these sorts of letters need to be very detailed, from a doctor only, and be specific to the need as well as a separate letter for each ESA if there is more than one).
I have never been requested to accommodate an ESA or service animal so I am not familiar with the full legal requirements. If the FHA does not apply to me, do I need to accommodate this (i.e. give the pet security deposit back/stop charging a pet fee)? Or, are accommodations required (with no deposit, etc.) even if the FHA does not otherwise apply?
Then, if I do need to accommodate, is a single, non-descript letter from an APRN enough? Or am I allowed to request two separate, detailed letters from a doctor?
Lots of questions, I know. Just trying to get some clarity on the matter to make sure I handle it appropriately. Direct answers would be great, but even suggestions on who I might contact or where to get further info would help. I have already tried to call HUD, but not getting through.
Thanks in advance, and I will try to be responsive to questions if anyone has any.

2024.05.21 21:58 5teeeve I don't fit well in the driver's seat- any advice?

I leased a GMC denali canyon three years ago and loved it, the payment was $410/month and it was super comfortable. When the lease was up in January, I called to see what the rates were on the new GMCs and it increased to $780/month which is far out of my price range. I talked to a Toyota dealer who got me into a tacoma SR5 for $470/month and after test driving it, I reluctantly signed the lease- disappointed to make sacrifices in comfort (at still a 15% price increase) on the leather interior, heated/cooled seats, built in nav, better back up cam, etc.
Here I am a few months later and I am enjoying driving the vehicle and coping with losing some amenities but my biggest gripe is that I don't fit into the driver's seat well and it is almost painful getting in and out of the seat. I am 6'3" and have an athletic build. The steering wheel is as high as I can set it and the seat is as low as it will go. Getting into the truck, I have to put my legs jammed up under the dash near the pedals, bend my knees almost backwards hyper-extended, and then swing them under the steering wheel as I get into the seat. I guess I did not notice it the first few times, but recently had to rent other vehicles for work (mid size SUVs) and realized how much easier it is to get in and out and how much more comfortable my seated position is while driving. It has now become glaring that it is a problem and even slightly painful.
I guess my question is has anyone had the same experience? If I bring it to a Toyota shop is there any chance they can increase the steering wheel height furthelower the seat more? Not sure if I just have to deal with it for three years. I am sorry if this is the wrong place for this post as I am sure most people here are fans- just looking for any useful advice or input, thanks!

2024.05.21 21:56 Bergamo_boy Pathway for AMEX or Chase next card

Seeking some advice as I’d like to get into Chase ecosystem and AMEX. What would be a good path?
This will be my second card, but with about 2 years of credit history with my discover. Currently down to last credit card payments this next month with upcoming raise ahead.
I have Discover secured converted to unsecured, love it, but 1% cash back and 2% on gas is just ok.
I think the credit history is fine now, score is 771 . Previously had medical debt, but stayed in 700s for 11 months now.
Applied to AMEX last year, Denied (year and a half ago) for due to CL utilization and a medical debt not paid as agreed around 2016 in college, briefly jumped to 30% and back down to 20% utilization in early 2023 and down ever since. Curious if I can try AMEX again? The problem with Chase is no pre approval tool, so its a hard pull.
Goal is Groceries, Gas and online purchases, no travel.
I was pre approved Triple A, but dealing with Comnity sounds bad. Got a pre approval letter for Chase Sapphire Preferred , but that seems odd as a higher tier card not matching my profile.
Willing to go with other cards in order to get into the ecosystems that interest me, like cap 1 or citi , but in the end, would like a chase or amex. Kindly appreciate any wisdom.
