2024.05.21 21:22 AlexGamr0X0 Who could replace Poch?

There are said to be at least FOUR options Chelsea are currently exploring, including Ipswich Town's Kieran McKenna.
Who could be the next Chelsea manager?
HERE are the seven names in the running to replace Mauricio Pochettino after his shock exit from Chelsea.
Roberto De Zerbi
The Italian left Brighton at the end of the season after a year and a half in charge. He was linked with a host of top jobs earlier in the campaign but a difficult run of results saw him fall out of contention for the likes of Liverpool. De Zerbi’s attacking, front-foot style would be popular at Stamford Bridge.
Kieran McKenna
The former Manchester United assistant has led Ipswich to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League. That has seen his stock shoot through the roof and he may be tempted to jump ship for a big job.
Enzo Maresca
Maresca was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City and has worked wonders at Leicester, settling the ship to send the Foxes back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Appointing a Pep disciple has turned Arsenal into title contenders, so it could work for Chelsea too.
Hansi Flick
Flick was one of football’s most in-demand managers after winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich. But it all went wrong in his next role becoming the first manager ever to be sacked by Germany. Now he’s ready to return and could be a smart move for the Blues
Sebastian Hoeness
Chelsea fans may not have heard of him, but Hoeness is Germany’s next big thing. Hoeness has transformed Stuttgart from relegation candidates to the second best team in the Bundesliga, finishing above Bayern Munich. Only invincible Bayer Leverkusen got in the way of a miracle.
Michel
Michel Sanchez has worked wonders with little Girona in Spain. The minnows were right in the LaLiga title race at Christmas before watching Real Madrid shoot into the distance. But they ran illustrious Catalan neighbours Barcelona all the way for second and are guaranteed a spot on the Champions League. Reports in Spain say that has caught Chelsea’s attention.
Jose Mourinho
Still adored by fans at Stamford Bridge, who never warmed to former Spurs boss Pochettino, Mourinho would be a popular pick. Winner of three Premier League with the Blues across two topsy-turvy spells, could he be the man to take Chelsea back to the top?

2024.05.21 20:44 AlexGamr0X0 Arsenal target Brobbey hails United

Arsenal-linked striker Brian Brobbey has named the Gunners and Manchester United amongst four "very impressive" European giants he admires.
Ajax's Holland star, 22, has won just one full cap.
But he's notched 22 goals in 43 club games this season.
He said: "Arsenal, I think that is a very nice club.
"If you look at that stadium, it's very impressive.
"A very nice club, but that also applies to Manchester United, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid."

Opinions and Tips (7 traveldays in 1 Month- Pass)
What do you think of this Interrail plan? I know it's more than seven days of travelling. I will just buy an extra ticket for the Barcelona-Valencia and Valencia-Madrid route. I plan to stay 3 nights in each city(Amsterdam, Brüssels, Paris, Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Toulouse, Milano). Does anyone have any general or city-specific tips for my first Interrail trip😅 (accommodation/activities etc.)?
Thanks in advance for your answers

2024.05.21 17:51 sportingpool Design for a new Champions League

The goal is to have a Champions League that includes as many European Nations as possible, while at the same time satisfying the financial needs of big clubs and keeping the established and popular leagues at a national level intact.
It should increase the frequency a top team plays any given other top team, without expanding the schedule too much and without increasing the stress on top players.
If group play, quite boring at times, gets a little boost, it would be appreciated as well.
Setup: 42 Teams participate. 21 spots for Top 4: England 6, Italy 5, Spain 5, Germany 5
21 spots for other countries, determined using a 5y Ranking and qualifying rounds
Each country gets to choose its own Champions League participants independently. If England wants to include the same 6 clubs each year, so be it.
Group play: 2 groups with 21 teams each. 10 dates on the schedule.
A game day in a group consists of 7 tournaments featuring 3 teams. They play each other once for 45 minutes. The home team plays the first and final game. Would look like this:
7.00pm Arsenal London - Ajax Amsterdam 8.15pm Ajax Amsterdam - FC Barcelona 9.30pm Arsenal London - FC Barcelona
In this design, each teams has 3 home tournaments and 6 road dates in Europe.
Additionally the opening tournaments are played overseas (USA, Asia).
Each team would play all other 20 teams in its group once, which is highly desirable. The current proposal with 7 random opponents out of 35 fails spectacularly in that regard.
It would also match up top teams much more frequently than in the past. Each top team would play any given other top European team at least once every 2 years on average.
Roster rule: Each player on a roster can only play in one 45 minute game each day.
Despite having more dates on the schedule, the minutes played by the top players would decrease slightly during group play, while the depth players are utilized more.
Including games with this 45minute design into the soccer schedule optimizes a lot: The clubs get to play the maximum amount of games possible given their roster, getting a full workload out of everybody. It would also increase happiness: Everybody gets to play.
Knockout stage: Standard play over 90mins and 2 legs. The top 12 out of 21 teams in each group qualify. The top 4 get a bye for a Play-In round that matches A5vB12, A6vB11 and so on. There will be no more draws for the knockout rounds. In the past too often an unbalanced draw pooling the top teams on one side resulted from it.
Round of 16 will match the group winner with the most points and the lowest seed left, followed by the the other group winner and so on.
Kickoff Times: The best time to kick off a standard midweek game is between 7 and 8 in the evening, local time. Right now some of the biggest Champions League matches that go to extra time or a shootout finish around midnight, thus completely excluding kids or people that have to work early. Not desirable at all. Even the regular finish to a game is too late. Every game should start at 8pm continental european time at the latest.
Schedule: To make room for the 10 group stage dates, the Nations League (which was uncalled for in the first place) gets cancelled. The qualifying matches for the World Cup and EURO can be spread out more over a 2 year time period. Some, if not most friendlies should be cancelled as well. By including a Champions League week overseas, teams can cancel some of their ineffective preseason marketing tours in USA and Asia as well.
Refereeing/Offside: The calibration of technical aid (VaR) will continue for some time. Offside needs immediate clarity and fixing:
1)The linesman (who has to be a full time and well paid professional wearing a number) always immediately signals for Offside, if he has detected it.
2 )The referee never immediately stops play. Instead he waits for confirmation from the VaR, who in real-time doublechecks it. This check has to take at least 10 seconds.
Finances: The prize money distribution is not sensible as well. A random bounce in a close early knockout match should not potentially be worth €50m. Spreading the money out more even would reduce revenue volatility and make budgeting easier.
Real Madrid: Real is an integral part of European Soccer. It’s current management crew with help from UEFA has cheated soccer for a long time. A new and better Real should be forgiven and included. Real has to be part of the new Champions League right away. Otherwise something would be missing. Real has legions of fans, and is owned by it’s members. These Socios could give up 25% of their economic interest to bring the debt from the Stadium renovation down to a sustainable level.
Let’s go do this !!! 👍 😊

Hes saying good bye to certain tournaments, not the tour. Which is why he didnt want those send-offs at some tournaments, such as Barcelona. He will however not play in Madrid anymore.

2024.05.21 15:24 ArcReactorTarnished Top 10 Manchester City’s best game ever by rank in your opinion

I’ll start with mine: btw this is my personal opinion so please don’t get mad 😅
10: Manchester City 4 - 2 Tottenham (amazing personal performance by Riyad Mahrez to help City comeback against Tottenham)
9: Manchester City 1 - 0 Leicester (thundercunt by Vincent Kompany to clutch a very important win)
8: Southampton 0 - 1 Manchester City (amazing goal by Gabriel Jesus to clinch The Centurions title)
7: Manchester City 2 - 1 Manchester United (amazing volley by Gundogan to score in just 13 seconds, seriously one of the most clutch player that we had)
6: Manchester City 3 - 1 West Ham (only one team has ever won 4 consecutive Premier League title right now)
6: Manchester City 2 - 1 Liverpool (stopped Liverpool from getting The Invincibles title, this was their only PL loss in 2018/19 season and the start of the momentum for us to win the PL)
5: Manchester United 1 - 6 Manchester City (probably the second biggest embarassment in Alex Ferguson’s career, second only to the hand shaking vs Barcelona in 2011)
4: Manchester City 4 - 0 Real Madrid (we just trashed the juju club of the UCL)
3: Manchester City 3 - 2 Aston Villa (the 93:20 of Pep Guardiola’s era, Gundogan truly a clutch player)
2: Manchester City 1 - 0 Inter Milan (destroyed the myth that City is cursed in UCL, what a way to win a Continental Treble)
1: Manchester City 3 - 2 QPR (in terms of its significance at the time, we were never the same from that point)
Obligatory: Manchester City 1 - 0 UEFA for the overturned ban from all European competitions

2024.05.21 13:28 AlexGamr0X0 Brobbey praises Arsenal

Arsenal target Brian Brobbey has praised the club amid links with a move to North London.
The Ajax forward is understood to be on the Gunners' list of summer striker targets.
Speaking recently, Brobbey told NOS Jeugdjournaal: "Arsenal, I think that is a very nice club.
"If you look at that stadium. A very nice club, but that also applies to Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid. I have a contract until 2027. At the moment I am just with Ajax."

2024.05.20 22:30 poetpedals Looking for advice on Spain/Portugal itinerary!

I’m planning a trip to Europe in October for about 12 days. It will be my first time in Europe and first solo trip abroad. I’m leaning toward Spain and Portugal but really struggling with the itinerary because there are so many places I want to go!
I initially really wanted to go to Barcelona but it’s the furthest north of the places I’d want to go so considering saving it for a future trip (maybe Barcelona and southern France) but still open to it!
These are my priorities for things to do/see, roughly in order:
-Spain is priority and figured Portugal would pair well but also open to just doing Spain -Arts and culture are my main interests when travelling (live music, art galleries, museums, markets, theatre, festivals, book stores, etc.) -Architecture/other good places for photography -At least one place with an LGBTQ scene/attractions -At least one warm/beachy place (e.g. Faro, Algarve, Sitges, Mallorca) -Vegan/vegetarians food options -Hiking/other outdoorsy experience -Some rest and downtime (I’d like at least 3-4 days where I stay in one place for the trip) -Places with lots of history
Other things to note:
-I’m a 27 year old female traveller from Canada -Would not be able to drive/rent a car, so places need to have public transit or be walkable -I’m not super into drinking or clubbing so it’s a low priority (not against it either though) -Willing to book flights separately to arrive and depart from different cities -As of now I am l thinking something like Madrid, Grenada or Valencia, Seville, Faro, Lisbon, Sintra but initial plan was to include Barcelona and a Spanish island and fewer cities in Spain
Where would you recommend I go?
