2024.05.01 02:13 Kellwood AW71 Problem
Hi there, never posted here before, and I don't even have a Volvo! I have a 1990 Toyota pickup with the a43d, which is mostly the same as the AW71. Usually the best information I can get about this transmission comes from a Volvo forum.
I rebuilt the transmission using donor hard parts from an AW71 I found at a junkyard (brand new clutches, etc.). It goes into park, neutral, drive, and reverse, but it won't shift out of first gear in drive. The shifts are pretty hard into reverse and drive, but that's normal on a rebuild, so I've been told.
I've confirmed that the kickdown cable is the correct length and the front pump is working. Any advice would be awesome 🙏
Also! I have some extra Volvo AW71 parts that are pretty much useless to me, so if you are in need send me a personal message and I'll see if I can help you!

2024.05.01 01:54 RVAIsTheGreatest Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, or Thumbs Across on Jamir Watkins
FSU transfer forward Jamir Watkins declared for the draft last week and is 100% committed:
https://twitter.com/EasyVeazeyNG/status/1783233131450859939 Watkins began his career at VCU and had a breakout season for the Seminoles, being their leading scorer, rebounder, and assister. Watkins tore his ACL at VCU prior to his sophomore season and redshirted.
Watkins is long 6'7 and he's a strong guy with a sturdy frame that he uses to his advantage on both ends. Strength is a big part of his game. He's very explosive with a head of steam and is a smooth athlete with great body control and solid acceleration, and he's fairly slithery/fluid as well, but isn't the quickest guy around. He's not a slow poke, but he's not a burner either. He can motor when he's in transition and when he gets going with the ball in his hands but quickness isn't a standout trait for him.
Watkins has a very versatile skill set on both ends of the floor. One concern people have had about him is that he doesn't have one A level trait. There is some truth to that, but he does a lot of different things well. One thing he does do at a very high level is draw fouls. His overall slashing game is his best attribute as a player and the calling card of who he is as an offensive talent. He's a smooth glider as a slasher. He's strong with the ball. He has a deceptive crossover. He really likes the left to right crossover. He's smart and effective with misdirections. He can be decisive and aggressive when he sees a seam to attack, and he can snake screens and be cerebral and patient and really work his way to his spots.
He uses his body very well as a driver, he uses his body to shield the ball when taking it to the rim, he uses it to absorb contact, and he does a very good job initiating contact. He is good at changing speeds of his strides and forcing defenders into his body and drawing fouls. He has a good pump fake he draws fouls on. He doesn't always get all the way to the rim driving left, he definitely is more effective going right, but he can go left. He got to the line 6 times a game and shot 80%. He's got a pretty mature overall slashing game. He doesn't have the quickest first step, and he doesn't consistently create space with his first step when looking to drive, but uses changes of speed, accelerates through the gears and is pretty quick when at full speed, and uses his strength and body control to get to the basket.
He's at his best going downhill on rips and off curls. He's more than capable in isolation too. He will force the issue at times, he will drive into the teeth of the defense and throw up bad shots. His handle isn't the most advanced overall, his crossover move is deceptive and gains him an advantage often, he has a couple counters and he has tight control with the ball when executing these moves, but he's not the most diverse ballhandler overall and he has moments of losing the ball in traffic. He's explosive in space, he has some elevation ability and hangtime in traffic but he's a tough shot maker in general. He has good extension around the rim with his length, can finish with both hands, has a versatile layup/floater package and uses the rim as an extra defender, but he can be stonewalled at the rim and he doesn't have the greatest touch around the rim consistently. He loves the eurostep around the rim and does a great job shedding defenders with it. Watkins is a decent if not elite finisher overall, especially taking into account of many of his baskets were self-created.
Watkins uses his size on the elbows and in the post quite a bit and likes the turnaround jumper. He will turn inside and look to finish around the rim as well or draw contract. He will back his way to the rim at the elbow and occasionally turn drives into back to the basket shots. Watkins knows how to snake screens in the PnR and was used off curls quite a bit, where he works his way into pull up jumpers or rim attacks. He's very comfortable in the midrange. He wasn't insanely efficient as an off the dribble shooter in the midrange, but his ability to create shots for himself at all three levels is something that NBA teams will be enticed by.
Watkins shot 34% from 3 on the season on 2.9 attempts. He has good mechanics and a lot of lip outs from 3. Some really clean makes. He doesn't get a huge amount of elevation, but he does have good balance as a shooter. He has the ability to create space for himself out of the PnR and off the catch for off the dribble 3's. Watkins was a good C&S guy this year and a good spot-up guy in general with his ability to attack off rips on the perimeter and this is a part of his game that should scale up further in a smaller role at the professional level.
Watkins was used in the PnR a lot. His ability to play at his pace and snake screens, use the hostage dribble, and create space for himself as a scorer and make some really good finds as a passer is one of his strongest attributes as an offensive player. He's got real passing vision and talent, he can really snap the ball around the court and is a versatile passer. Finds rollers in the PnR, finds cutters in the post, and at the key. Finds guys off his own creation when he gains an advantage and draws help. Finds shooters off the drive and out of the PnR. Finds open guys crosscourt. He's good with hook passes, baseball passes, dump offs and bounce passes. His timing as a passer isn't always crisp and his touch isn't always precise but often impressive. He was used as a facilitator a ton for FSU and is a good ball mover that can keep the offense humming and can pass teammates open a bit too. He can be bothered by ball pressure quite a bit, his lack of an incredible handle gets him in trouble in these situations at times. His all-around decision making isn't horrible but isn't at a level where he can be trusted as a lead playmakecreator at the professional level. He averaged more turnovers than assists in league play and 18% TO rate, although that isn't an awful number for how much load he had on his shoulders. This is another part of his game that I think could see cleaned up in a smaller secondary creatoplaymaker role.
Watkins was a good rebounder this year. His toughness, length, ability to elevate and nose for the ball make him a plus as an offensive and defensive rebounder; he really pursues balls in the air.
Watkins was known as a defensive menace at VCU. He was OK at Florida State this year, but not quite as good as advertised or as he's marketed. He averaged 2 steals a game and will suffocate drivers in help, doubling off and walling off dribblers and poking balls free or creating turnovers. He has active hands defensively and anticipates passes. He'll break up passes or steal them outright in driving lanes. He'll look to steal hit ahead passes. He'll dig down on post players and steal the ball. He also will pressure the ball and wall up effectively defensively and use his length to smother ballhandlers. He will anticipate his opponents' moves and pick up steals that way too.
His lateral quickness isn't anything to write home about. I think his on ball defense especially and overall defense is overrated from what the consensus seems to be about it. He will overhelp or sag in the paint looking to be a disruptor and Florida State is a team that switched a lot and aggressively played passing lanes, but he doesn't recover super well out to shooters or when guys quickly take the ball to the basket on him. He'll fly out of the play closing out to shooters, and he isn't that great at containing penetration from guards. He can contain penetration on forwards, but he's not very good at doing it against guards consistently. He got burned at times applying ball pressure defensively up the court and got left in the dust by guards. He gave up 3's sagging too far in the paint. He'll be lazy navigating traffic and not fight through and call for switches. He navigates screens OK when he's engaged. There were a fair few miscommunications involving Watkins throughout the season on defensive plays.
Watkins got caught ball watching too often and got back cut and would gamble for steals. He does get a fair number of blocks off ball in help. He's a disruptor defensively and he's an instinctual rotater; that ability to rotate, ability to help the helper, allowed him to pick up a fair few amount of blocks from behind the play. He does a good job using his strength against big men on switches. He has some switchability in him....I think he can handle 4's on switches in the NBA and some 5's too. He's not incapable sliding down the lineup, just isn't where he's at his best. He does have moments of containing guards but too many moments where he reaches and gets beat, where he just isn't quick/fluid enough to stay in front, for me to call him super switchable down the lineup.
Perhaps I'm a little too cruel on Jamir Watkins' defense and how it'll look in a smaller offensive role will be different from what it looked like this season. I'm a fan of him as a prospect because he has a game that can scale down from what it was in college. His ability to draw fouls is pretty damn elite for a guy who's said to not have an elite skill. He may not have another A level skill, but he does a lot of things well on both ends, and that kind of versatile package combined with his physical tools and his motor makes him a solid swiss army knife prospect in this class. Are you all Thumbs Up, Down, or Across, on Jamir Watkins?

17% earnings miss and 3% revenue miss. Growth was 4% with earnings per share declining 3%. Operating margin compressed 550 basis points. They paid off $600M in debt using $500M in cash and $100M on their credit line, and they still have around $280M in debt against around $213M in income each quarter. Their growth is being stunted by outflows to the tune of $2.8B, which is at least $1B in bank loans and maybe the others in private credit rotating out. It's possible on the large scale investors are gearing up to draw into cash and then reinvest in the market. They are still directing people out of their qqq fund into qqqm for a benefit for users of 5 bps and then to save on costs. Grade d. Confidence 0.5.

2024.05.01 01:36 GreatCrimsonDragon The Waluigi Game
Out favorite purple man, what can we say about him? What does he bring to the Nintable? Allow me a moment of your time.
Waluigi was introduced as a doubles partner for Wario, and thus, he has only been seen as this mischievous sportsman who will go golfing or go Karting.
On the outside.
Behind those eyes is the mind of a master secret agent. A man traveling the world, drawing attention to himself (a la, 007) so that the agents of his organization can work on taking down an evil mastermind. A true crime lord, funding the wars of the mushroom kingdom.
That's right.
Professor Elvin Gadd.
This isn't even speculation. He is seen doing this in one of Mario & Luigi games.
But who is funding E. Gadd? Who is the real villain?
The green man himself, swimming in gold and hiding in his brother's shadow.
That's why the moniker was chosen. The world needed him to be seen as the bad guy. He needed to become the "evil Luigi" so he could defeat the Evil Luigi.
TL;DR: Waluigi spy game. Sly CoopeMetal Geasportsman type thing.

2024.05.01 01:14 AshleyUncia Moving to Ottawa, anyone have any info on 'The Lakeview Apartments' at 360 Croydon?
I previously lived in Ottawa, went to Algonquin even, came to Toronto for work 10 years ago, I now have a spouse whose in the CAF, my job is now done from home, and the CAF is posting my spouse to Ottawa.
With all the benefits of a government apartment hunting trip and that, we're trying to pick the right apartment to move into, and at least until we buy a house or there's another posting.
So there's this place that is at the top of our list:
https://www.osgoodeproperties.com/apartments/on/ottawa/lakeview-apartments/ We're looking for 2bdrms, in a location close enough to convenient things as well as easy access to OC Transpo. This place is huge for it's price, 1070 square feet for $2,074/Month. Anything in that price range is smaller, close to 750-850 square feet. Anything closer in size is more expensive. Nothing else quite fits in the 'square footage per dollar range'.
For context, we are specifically looking for 2bdrm units, in purpose built rental buildings. Basically we want something old enough for rent control, no mom and pop landlords/foreign investors trying to N12 us because the interest rates went up or pretending to be confused when the pumping breaks and we expect them to quicky repair it and such.
Me and my spouse have some rather 'spacious' hobbies, both having desktop computers, I also have some retro computers, we collect nerd stuff that need shelves, there's hockey gear to store, so 1070 square feet sounds amazing. I have noticed that this area seems to have a lot of construction immediately around it, both a shopping plaza demolished (And I'd assume a newer one or some other building to replace it) and the O Train construction next to that. (The O Train was just 5 stops when I was last in Ottawa) Is it just the noise or is there something else I should be aware of?

2024.05.01 01:04 According-Ad-8374 Scenario: caught with your pants down
What should you do if this situation happens to you?
You get back from a sick range session with the goons. You’re home, you start taking off your Crye gear, put the Limited Edition War Poet Daniel Defense DD15 in the gun safe and put your high cut helmet with a PVS 31 on its rack in your closet.
All of a sudden, a rapscallion busts your front door down, but you’re caught, literally with your pants down!
You grab your musket and fire at the intruder, missing and hitting the neighbors poodle. As he moves to engage you draw your backup flintlock and hit the intruder.
Police arrive, and you are detained.
While sitting in the squad car a rogue acorn hits the top of the car, in an instant the officer mag dumps into your 2023 Coevette ZL1, thinking he’s under fire.
Should you speak to the officers or call your lawyer (Evan Nappen)

2024.05.01 00:53 Yukimare A attempt at in-character patch notes
Forgive me out of character for how random this is. Trying to take my mind off of things in real life (personal and long story). And following the occasional idea I see of rewording patch notes to seem in-universe…. I thought I’d give it a shot. I will not be messing with all of the notes, otherwise, I would be here all day and some would not be able to comprehend in-universe. Feel free to tell me what you think of all of this.
Balancing
General
- All armor with above-average protection now includes heavier plating that can be slotted into any helmet. Any armor with an armor rating above 100 now also reduces headshot damage. Please refer to your email for instructions on how to insert these heavier plates into your helmets.
- Due to complaints about stolen valor after a mission by Helldivers who had not even deployed on said mission, it is now considered Treason to strike a pose when Helldivers return from a mission if you never were deployed during said mission.
Primary, Secondary, and Support Weapons
- CB-9 Exploding Crossbow - The Ministry of Firepower has reworked this weapon and released its Mk2 variant. It is now being deployed, effective immediately.
- The tips of the bolts are now shaped. This will reduce the explosive radius, but increase their stagger power in return.
- The Crossbow’s cable has been replaced with a heavier variant with a higher draw strength. This should increase the velocity of the bolts.
- Unfortunately, due to the auto-draw mechanism that normally draws the cable back automatically being replaced with a heavier one, the Crossbow has been noted to be less ergonomic than before.
- Additionally, heavier bolts had to be used so they could survive the more powerful cable. This will result in Helldivers being able to carry less on average. To compensate, all support team members will receive revised training to be able to pack more of these bolts into each resupply pack.
- LAS-99 Quasar Cannon - Unfortunately, due to budgetary reasons, we cannot easily manufacture more of these Cannons. In anticipation of a long, resource-intensive battle, salvage crews have been dispatched to recover any lost gear we can. This includes any lost Quasar Cannons, and any used Quasar Cannons that return are to be refurbished rather than tossed away.
- Unfortunately, due to this mandate, many Quasar Cannons are arriving at Helldivers in a less-than-optimal state with somewhat degraded heatsinks. According to complaints, expect any issued Quasar Cannons to require 5 more seconds to cool off after being fired.
- BR-14 Adjudicator - The original version of this weapon has proven to be a colossal failure. Before he could be tried for Treason, the original designer of this weapon submitted an MK2 that appears to address many of the complaints received. Whether or not charges for Treason will be dismissed shall depend on if this new variant performs at a more acceptable level.
- The designer has reclassified the weapon as a Assault Rifle, which should reduce confusion and readjust expectations when Helldivers request to be issued this weapon.
- The weapon shall now be issued to Helldivers already set to Full Auto.
- Previously solid but otherwise unused space in the weapon’s furniture has been reworked to include buffers and springs that will aid in recoil reduction.
- To further aid recoil, the weapon has been rechambered to use a lighter and smaller, but equally hard-hitting round that is more readily available. This should allow Helldivers to carry more ammunition and acquire more from any source of ammunition.
- Laser Cannon - The Ministry of Firepower has released a Mk2 variant to experiment with tweaking the weapon.
- By itself, the laser is more powerful and should do slightly increased damage
- However, during testing, some have observed that those with large-volume bodies are better able to withstand the laser than before. Beware of this when using this against larger foes.
- SG-8P Punisher Plasma - Similar to the Laser Cannon, an MK2 variant of the weapon has been released and is being issued in place of the previous version.
- This new variant has been observed to have a higher projectile velocity than before. But the density of the plasma has also been increased, which may cancel out any otherwise perceived increases in the weapon’s range.
- Due to the denser plasma projectiles, the plasma explosions have an improved lethal radius (not an increased effective radius). Expect fewer surviving enemies due to being on the edge of the blast.
- Due to the more dense plasma charge, the plasma cells are heavier than before. Expect to be able to carry far less ammunition. To compensate, support crew staff shall also receive additional training to pack more into each resupply pack.
- To ease confusion among the Helldivers, the weapon has been reclassified as an Energy weapon
- ARC-12 Blitzer - Improvements to Tesla technology, initially employed with upgraded Tesla Towers and Arc Throwers, have been successfully implemented into the ARC-12 Blitzer in its MK2 variant. These shall be issued at once and will replace the original variant.
- Due to the improvements, the weapon has been observed to fire roughly 50% faster at best.
- To ease confusion among the Helldivers, the weapon has been reclassified as an Energy weapon
- R-36 Eruptor - Due to the popularity of the Eruptor, we are receiving reports of a shortage of the ammunition that this weapon requires. To maintain the ability to employ this weapon, a mandate has been declared and a lower-grade variant of the ammunition shall be issued in place of what we used before.
- This new ammunition has been observed to be much heavier. Expect to only be able to carry half as much as you could before.
- Additionally, the rounds appear to have a smaller payload than the original rounds. Expect more enemies who are merely on the boundary of this weapon’s blast radius to survive.
- LAS-16 Sickle - Due to the popularity of the Sickle and poor trigger discipline, Super Earth is encountering a shortage of the heatsinks used by the Sickle and Scythe. To maintain the ability to use these weapons, Super Earth has issued direct orders to ration the ICE.
- Helldivers are no longer allowed to carry more than 3 ICE at a time.
- Scythe - The Ministry of Firepower has released an MK2 variant that improves the damage at no downside. Unfortunately due to the shortage of heatsinks caused by the LAS-16 Sickle, the Scythe has also been affected by the direct order to ration the ICE.
- The improvements have increased the weapon’s damage output by roughly 16%, at no downside.
- Helldivers are no longer allowed to carry more than 4 sets of ICE at a time for this weapon.
- Railgun - While we are still encountering shortages of the rare and highly valuable materials needed for the ammo that this weapon previously enjoyed, we have managed to source a better material for the ammo than what was procured in a hurry before.
- The new material used in the ammunition should result in a universal increase in the weapons’ ability to penetrate armor, both in Safe and Unsafe mode.
- However, this penetration improvement has had the unfortunate downside of making the projectile prone to overpenetration, leaving less kinetic energy to dump into the target. Expect enemies to feel less of the impact, and thus stagger, less than before.
- MK-101 HMG - Following Helldiver complaints about the practicality of using a bulky weapon with difficult-to-read optics, an MK2 version of the weapon has been released to address these issues and make the weapon easier to use on short notice.
- The improvements to the sights and optics should permit a helldiver to more easily acquire their target, reducing the need to focus on aiming more intently.
- Diligence Counter Sniper - Thanks to the invention of a new powder type for gunpowder weapons, new and improved ammunition has been released. But the Counter Sniper is also getting an MK2 version, with improvements to address its ergonomic gripes.
- Expect the new round to hit considerably harder at no downside
- The improved ergonomics should make it easier to acquire a target quickly.
- Diligence (base) - While no new version of the base Diligence has been released, the base rifle will still use the improved ammunition
- While not able to compete with the MK1 CS model’s power, the base Diligence should hit harder than before still due to the new ammo.
- P-19 Redeemer - Following complaints about the lethargic recoil leading to extraction failures, an MK2 version of the P-19 has been released. The P-19 MK2 has been rechambered for a different round. While the new powder charge is found in this new round, it is serving to bring the replacement round back up to the original round’s capabilities, while increasing recoil enough to prevent needless stoppages of the dispersal of democracy.
- The weapon’s recoil has been increased, an unfortunate consequence of addressing the jamming problem this weapon had previously.
- Peacemaker - The Peacemaker’s ammunition also received improvements following the improved powder charge’s invention
- Expect the new ammo to hit ever so slightly harder than before.
- Senator - The Senator seems to benefit the best from the improved ammunition. In addition, to address issues that came as a natural limitation of revolver designs, all Senators from here on shall be issued alongside a speedloader.
- The improved ammunition should hit considerably harder than before
- The now-issued speedloader should permit the refreshment of an entire fully depleted cylinder in one fell swoop.
- Dagger - Similar to the Scythe, improvements to the weapon’s internals have been made, leading to the release of an MK2 variant.
- You can expect a roughly 25% damage increase as a result of these improvements.
- Liberator / Liberator Concussive - Similarly, both the base and Concussive Liberator have enjoyed improvements to their stopping power following the release of the new ammo type. Unfortunately, while the Penetrator is also using the new powder charge, this has instead led to overpenetration in the round, preventing that variant from enjoying any substantial benefits from the new charge type.
- Both the Liberator and Concussive variants should hit slightly harder now.
- Guard Dog Rover - Unfortunately, due to the mandate to ration the ICE packs, all Rovers have had their power output turned down to reduce the strain on their ICE and reduce the odds of them needing replacement later. The improvements to the Scythe used by the drone should help compensate and lessen the drone’s loss of power.
- Expect an average 30% reduction in the drone’s average damage output.
- Guard Dog - The new powder charge has benefited this version of the Guard Dog at least…
- Expect a slight increase in damage output from this drone variant.
- Fire damage - In response to too many Helldivers being tragically lost to fire, fire retardant materials have been interwoven into the fabric of all armors going forward to improve the odds of survival in the unfortunate event of catching fire. Unfortunately, it seems our enemies have similarly adapted and now enjoy similar resistance, one way or another.
Enemies
- Bile and Nursing Spewers seem to have gained a negative mutation from the TCS Termnicide, a silver lining, no doubt considering current events. They appear to be considerably heavier now and thus considerably slower.
- Automaton Hulks appear to have been redesigned to have better weight distribution, making it more difficult to stagger them.
- Due to the actions of a heroic spec-ops Helldiver team, the Automatons are experiencing a severe shortage of napalm. To work around this, filler additives are being added to what reserves the Automatons have left, resulting in Hulk Scorchers having less lethal potential when using their flamethrowers directly on their targets.
- The Automatons have released a MK2 version of the thrusters used by their gunships, resulting in improved sideways agility and speed.
- The faceplates of the Scout Striders have been improved, making it more difficult to damage the pilot through this plate using explosives.
- The Terminicide has mutated the Spore Spewers to gain armor and various structural redundancies, making it more difficult to destroy them.
- Due to the same Spec-Ops Helldiver team, the rare resources used by Gunship Fabricators are in short supply. Intercepted transmissions have revealed rationing of this resource, resulting in fewer gunships on average being allowed to be present at once per fabricator.
Again, I apologize for any goofs I may have made. I likely could have done better, but I'm a bit rusty in the writing department honestly. If you like it or have thoughts or suggestions, do let me know.

2024.05.01 00:12 blackmagikarper Survival of the Smartest - Scientist Build Concept HELP!
Background: I have owned FO4 since near-launch, but never really played it at the time because I couldn't run it, and it became buried in my library of games by the time I could. After watching the show, I was inspired to pick it back up and try it out again, and this is my attempt to get an idea for my build before I commit. I am in need of criticisms and suggestions from more experienced builders on if the idea I have in mind is viable and fitting for the roleplay that I intend to do.
Build: Link to the build up to level 10, to get a rough idea of where I think I wanna go with the build.
Difficulty: I will be playing on Survival, as the idea of the extra challenge it provides is interesting to me, and incentivizes the playstyle I want to use.
Playstyle: I want to roleplay a scientist who is relatively squishy herself, and relies on power armor, energy weapons, and robotic companions she has built and modded herself to survive in the wasteland. I also want her to be charismatic and put a lot of effort into building interconnected settlements to supply a network of workstations across the Commonwealth for her to access (eventually replacing human provisioners with robots). I don't know how much I will use V.A.T.S. so I'm not really going to go hard into that or crits, either.
Notable Equipment: I definitely intend on wearing Eyeglasses and the Vault-Tec Lab Coat as soon as possible to complete the look. The +1 Perception and +2 Intelligence are just added bonuses to the roleplay. Until then I will likely be wearing the Vault 111 Jumpsuit with Pocketed Leather armor to help with carry weight. The Laser Musket and 10mm will be my best friends until I can get a Laser Gun to mod and a reliable stash of fusion cores for power armor.
S.P.E.C.I.A.L.: For my stats, I am struggling hard to decide on exactly what I should do to fit this playstyle, but here are my ideas for my starting stats as follows:
- Strength: 3 - For this roleplay, I would drop it to 1, but I need Armorer to be able to mod my power armor, so this is the max I will probably ever really have in this stat. I will likely level this up to 5 eventually for Heavy Gunner in the late-game (basically roleplaying it as she has put on muscle lugging all her gear around and wearing power armor all the time).
- Perception: 3-5 - I want this character to be relatively perceptive, as it makes sense for the character to have some good eyes given what she will need to be doing. If I end up dropping Endurance or Agility to 1, I will pump this up to 5 so that I can use the early bobblehead to get it to 6 and take Night Person, as it also makes sense for her to be a bit of an insomniac/night owl. I will also want at least 2 for Rifleman, as the laser rifles will be my go-to damage option. Will likely level it up to 6 for Night Person eventually if I don't start there.
- Endurance: 1-3 - For this roleplay, keeping Endurance at 1 to be as squishy as possible makes sense, but I can also see it going as high as 3, as I feel like that is the "average" for a person in the Fallout universe (lore nerds please correct me). I don't think I will take many, if any, perks in this tree for this build.
- Charisma: 5 - I will use You're S.P.E.C.I.A.L.! to up it to 6 so that I can get Local Leader, the only real Charisma perk that I want to use for this build, as I want to be able to set up settlement supply lines so I don't need to lug around heavy supplies everywhere since I will have very limited carry weight.
- Intelligence: 9 - I want access to Hacker, Scrapper, Science!, Chemist, and Nuclear Physicist for this playstyle and roleplay, and it makes a lot of sense for her to be as smart as possible. I am keeping it to 9 for now as I don't think 10 is necessary, and will only be upped if I have a spare point after all my other stats.
- Agility: 1-3 - This is the stat I am the least invested in. As I think 3 is the "average" stat for a normal person, I feel like that is the max for this stat. I don't really think I will be taking any perks in this tree besides maybe Gunslinger for a sidearm, but I also think this build is going to have to be sneaking around a lot early-game since I will be very easy to kill and without reliable fusion cores for full-time armor.
- Luck: 2 - I want to take scrounger to ensure I have access to as much ammo as I can get, and hopefully keep a good supply of fusion cells and cores handy for this playstyle, as I know both can be rather scarce.
Perks: This build is going to go heavy into perks that enable a nerdy playstyle that focuses on crafting and modding as well as settlement building, meaning I am considering the following perks:
- Armorer 4 - To be able to fully kit out my power armor to suit my needs in the wasteland.
- Heavy Gunner 5 - This is a late-game investment for my power armor build, so not anything to worry about early game.
- Rifleman 5 - My main weapon will be a laser rifle, so this is a must.
- Night Person 2 - Mostly insomniac/night owl roleplay that gives me an INT and PER bonus that this character should logically have because it fits the roleplay.
- Lifegiver 3 - OPTIONAL! The only way I can really see this character having any notable health bonuses, since the entire point of the build is she is squishy and relies on her power armor to compensate.
- Local Leader 2 - I want to run robot supply lines between all of my settlements and be able to access any of my crafting materials wherever I go. She wants to use her intelligence to rebuild the Commonwealth!
- Hacker 4 - She is good with computers, enough said.
- Scrapper 2-3 - I am going to need to take the Commonwealth for all its worth if I am going to be heavily investing in crafting, modding, and settlement building!
- Science! 4 - I want to be able to mod my power armor and laser weapons to high hell, and this is the way to do it!
- Chemist 1 - Only a small investment to be able to craft Antibiotics and Refreshing Beverages when I need them. She's a electronics-focused nerd, but she knows a little chemistry.
- Robotics Expert 3 - OPTIONAL! I just think it'd be fun for someone who intends to build a lot of robots to also be able to hack into them and make them work for her.
- Nuclear Physicist 3 - I need to get as much value out of each fusion core I find as possible, and this is the way to do it!
- Scrounger 3-4 - I want to be able to find as much ammo as often as I can to make sure that I can keep my laser weapon topped up. The last level seems optional, but I also heard that you can find fusion cores with this perk in the mid-to-late game and want to make sure I stay topped up with them.
Character Backstory: This Sole Survivor, back before the war, was a kid with a love for the sciences and robotics. She would go on to end up joining the military, gaining an in-depth knowledge of military grade robotics, energy weapons, and power armor before she would eventually meet her future husband: Nate.
Using her military-funded tuition, she would eventually leave this career path to pursue a degree in law as Nate is deployed into active service. After Nate returns from service is when the two finally settle down in Sanctuary, eventually conceiving Shaun before the inevitable events in 2077.
Now, thrust back out into the Commonwealth and on the hunt for her baby in a land without law, she has to fall back on her military knowledge to survive in the Commonwealth.

2024.04.30 23:29 muellermade Why do houses in Houston not have basements, yet nearly 40% of houses have pools?
Why do houses in Houston not have basements, yet so many houses have pools? I realize pools are constructed differently than basements, but I was under the assumption it had to do with soil quality. Yet, so many homes have pools, so I'm just confused and curious. Make it make sense.
EDIT 1: I draw a connection btwn the pool and basement because both require excavation, concrete, rebar etc
EDIT 2: I acknowledge basements are prone to mold/milde, but a sump pump and dehumidifier are used up north to combat these things. Also, I have seen some comments mentioning the need to water the foundation due to soil contraction during dry periods, wouldn't that be a reason to build deeper to decrease chances of the foundation getting too hot and potentially cracking? Underground is cooler than surface temps (obviously if drilling it's gets hotter the deeper you and the closer u get the the earths core - different subject for a different day 😂😂) but reasonably speaking for a house, underground is cooler than above ground. So again, isn't that an argument for making the foundations deeper 🤔🤔
EDIT 3: I saw a comment about a basement in Victoria and Galveston and other older homes seem to have them, so why don't newer homes have them? It seems they are possible but developers are being lazy 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

2024.04.30 21:51 mrwigglez Family Car what else?
I currently have an older generation Tiguan which has been great living in a dense city but I’m looking to trade in for something 2019 or newer since we’ll be living in a new city thats less dense. My budget is roughly $25,000 or less. Can be persuaded to go higher but staying under $30,000. I’m looking to buy used.
Right now I’m looking at the Mazda CX9. I think I can find a top trim 2020/2021 within my budget. Alternatively have considered Toyota Rav4s or Highlanders. The hybrids are especially appealing. Safety is a priority and I want something decently nice and reliable, but am open to something cooler or fun if it can also fit our needs. Hoping to not get killed at the pumps at but need enough power to get up some decent elevations.
We’re a family of 3 with a potential 4th in the next few years. We don’t have to regularly commute, but like most people I think most driving will be pretty local. I want something comfortable to take on long trips, can at least handle unpaved trails for camping trips and fit gear for sports and camping gear. I don’t anticipate having to tow anything more than a small trailer. A third row isn’t a make or break, but leaning towards one for those times we have more family with us or the extra luggage room with seats down. Oh and captain chairs would be a huge plus.

2024.04.30 21:38 MythicalStrength [PROGRAM DISCUSSION] 8 Week DoggCrapp Check In
INTRO I am currently in my 8th week of DoggCrapp, which matches how long I ran it…13 years ago, before competing in my first powerlifting meet and completely abandoning the program in pursuit of becoming a better powerlifter. Oddly enough, at that meet I set my best ever bench press in competition (342lbs as a 198 lifter), which was probably a lesson I should have learned but never did. But, either way, I’ve had 13 years to mature since then, and once again felt the call to take on DoggCrapp again, and after another 8 weeks I saw fit to get some thoughts down on it. This isn’t a full on program review, as I’m not “done” with DoggCrapp, but a quick check-in to express my thoughts so far: what’s been good, what’s been bad, what’s simply “been”, and, of course, my tweaks and mutations.
BACKGROUND Let’s start with “what the hell is DoggCrapp?” DoggCrapp is the unfortunate name that Dante Trudel gave his training style, which was a joke of a name he came up with on an online forum in the early aughts that regrettably stuck with it for the rest of its life. Anyone that was online in that era totally understands how these dumb decisions you make in the heat of coming up with a screenname can last with you the rest of your life (self-included), but rest assured that the programming style itself is no joke. Dante, himself not a bodybuilding trainer at the time but simply an enthusiast, had made several observations on what were the variables in bodybuilding training that seemed to ensure maximal success, and decided to just take all those winning strategies together and make it into its own training style, very similar to the alleged history of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do: take what is useful and discard what isn’t. These ideas were circulated through various forum posts and eventually captured and consolidated in a thread known as “Cycles for Pennies”, with Dante eventually creating his own forum known as “intense-muscle”, where he poured our more of his nearly prophetic ideas.
For myself, my first exposure to DoggCrapp came via a t-nation article titled “How to Build 50 Pounds of Muscle in 12 Months” by Nate Green, which I’ll link here, because it’s honestly a very solid primer on DoggCrapp and still what I rely on to this day.
https://forums.t-nation.com/t/how-to-build-50-pounds-of-muscle-in-12-months/284515 And while we’re talking about background, where was I when I started DoggCrapp again? I had JUST finished up 5/3/1 Building the Monolith which, in turn, I took on because, prior to that, I was running Jamie Lewis’ “Famine” protocol and was honestly burnt out with lifting 4-6 days a week and wanted to cut it down to 3. Building the Monolith gave me that opportunity, after which I went on a Disney Cruise, ate my face off, came back home and STILL only wanted to lift 3 days a week, and be able to spend the rest of my days walking or conditioning, which was a great fit for DoggCrapp.
PROGRAM SUMMARY You really should just read that primer I linked, but for a quick overview of how DoggCrapp works.
- 3 days a week of lifting (yes, there are other splits out there in DC, they are for advanced trainees, which I am not as far as bodybuilding is concerned)
- Alternating A/B style workouts. The A workout is chest-shoulders-triceps-back width-back thickness, the B workout is biceps-forearms-calves-hamstrings-quads. Yes, it is in THAT order.
- 3 workouts PER workout. What that means is, you have an A1, A2 and A3 day, and a B1, B2 and B3 day. So it takes a total of 2 weeks to get through all workouts (A1-B1-A2, B2-A3-B3, repeat).
- One movement per muscle, one workset per movement (in most cases). Rest pause for the majority of the worksets.
- “Beat the logbook”. Each workout, you either do more total reps than last time, more weight, both, OR, if you can’t beat the logbook, you change out the movement.
- After the workset, engage in a weighted stretch for the muscle (60-90 seconds).
- 30 minutes of cardio on the non-lifting days (ideally fasted).
- 2g of protein per pound of bodyweight for the diet.
HOW I HAVE CHANGED THINGS - I’ve honestly kept things pretty close to original. The biggest thing is I removed the forearm work and replaced it with a shrug variant. I genuinely don’t care about my forearm size, and figure I can get it to grow with grip strength work. Meanwhile, I DO care about the size of my traps, and wanted to use this as a chance to maximize it. I felt like these were both “small” muscle groups, and fit in well as a swap, and having owned Kelso’s Shrug Book for a decade, I’m at no shortage of shrug variations to employ.
- I am also still implementing ROM progression deadlifts, because I have found that, for me, this once a week pulling really gets me strong on the deadlift and doesn’t tax my recovery enough to impact other training. I’ve even managed to factor it into DoggCrapp: I include it in my A2 workout as my backwidth exercise. On the week I DON’T do the A2 workout, I do a ROM progression deadlift on Saturday. It’s one set and 5 minutes of work, and I often count it toward my “sprint workouts” (described below).
- I also tend to go above the recommended cardio recommendation. I still keep it low intensity, because I dig how that’s effective for burning fat, but I tend to go on a weighted vest walk for 40-50 minutes, and will also use this training day to hit some odds and ends (kb swings, reverse hyper, band pull aparts, neck work and some lateral raises tend to be the go to).
- I also include 3x10 standing ab wheels on the end of the lifting days. Direct ab work really serves me well. Some folks don’t need it, but I do.
- I lift M-W-F, I do the walking/odds and ends on Tues/Thurs, and on the weekends I’ll get in non-fasted walking and “sprint” workouts. These are 3-6 minute high intensity conditioning workouts: things like the Grace/Fran WODs, TABEARTA, 5 minutes of ABCs, etc. It’s in my best interest to keep those on the short side, as the lifting is intense and I don’t want to dip too far into my recovery. And, as I wrote above, once every 2 weeks I’ll be including a ROM progression deadlift workout on a Saturday.
- With me eating carnivore, I imagine I’m getting those protein recommendations, but I’m not counting or measuring to be able to say for sure.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT DOGGCRAPP - Once again, the big draw was 3 days a week of lifting, giving me more time to walk. With it being spring leading into summer, I want to get outdoors more often rather than be trapped inside a gym, and this style of training allows me to get in the hard training that I need while affording me the opportunity to enjoy being outside. That’s also a one/two punch as far as the goals of a bodybuilding program goes, because I find walking to be the best physique improving non-lifting activity to engage in. Low heartrate level exercise tends to be the exercise that relies on fat as a fuel source rather than carbs, and I find it’s an effective way to either strip fat away from the body OR, at least minimize its accumulation when eating aggressively. It also allows me to get out in the sun, get a tan, and just be in a great head space.
- This style of progression totally clicks with me. I hate percentages, and am somehow able to overcome that when it comes to 5/3/1 and Deep Water primarily because they just use them as a starting point, but in my most ideal world I’d never bother with them. DC is just about doing more than last time until you can’t, and then switching it up again. That’s what I grew up on with Pavel, and it still clicks to this day.
- But along with just not having percentages, I ALSO appreciate how the progression is “slow”. And I put that in quotes because it’s much like how silly people say 5/3/1’s progression is slow. What we really mean when we say slow progression is “infrequent opportunities to progress”. You only play with the TM of 5/3/1 after the cycle is over, but you can still progress as fast as you want. You only get a chance to beat the logbook once every 2 weeks, but in between those 2 weeks you can make LOTS of progress.
- And you really DO make a lot of progress between those attempts because of how intelligently the whole thing is set up. Forcing you to pick different movements for 3 different workouts is going to force you to work the muscles/movements from different angles, which is going to force you to bring up weakpoints whether you want to or not. So, for example, Dips for chest on day A1 strengthens the Incline Bench used on day A2 which strengthens the Dumbbell Bench used on day A3, which strengthens the dip. This, once again, funnily enough harkens back to my days following Pavel’s 3-5 out of his “Beyond Bodybuilding” book, which was supposed to, of course, be BEYOND bodybuilding, yet here we are again. I’ve also used this approach for Super Squats as well, and it’s really a lesson I just need to learn in general. Rather than having to keep a movement locked in for 6 weeks at a time and then do a whole new training block, we can vary the movements WITHIN the block to stretch it out longer.
- Just to keep speaking to how much I like the set-up: a 2 week break from a movement isn’t enough time to get detrained on it, assuming you come into DoggCrapp with a solid enough base. This is something I learned first hand with Deep Water, where it was 2 weeks between movements on the actual Deep Water days. And considering Dante said not to take on the program unless you had 3 years of training and were over 26 years old, there was something in place there to ensure that. It’s honestly just a great cyclical periodization approach.
- The order of the split/movements makes total sense to me. I like saving my hardest movement for last in a workout, vs most folks doing it first. And I most likely picked this up from the first time I ran DoggCrapp. But saving widowmaker squats for the end of the workout REALLY allows you to put your all into it and not have to worry about the swim back. Additionally, the “back width” exercise at the end of the A days allows you to employ a deadlift variant, which can make DoggCrapp more like a 3x a week full body workout vs a bodybuilding split, and, once again, you can REALLY go all out on the deadlift.
- I like how unbodybuilder-esque this bodybuilding training is. Dante is really big on the whole 80/20 principle, and for movement selection it means picking big movements you can go heavy on. A big part of that is because you have to “beat the logbook”. If you’re doing 15lb lateral raises, it’s hard to progress each workout, but if you’re pressing 185lbs overhead, your shoulders have some wiggleroom. This really gels well with my meathead background. There isn’t much nuance to execution either. No tempo counts or rep range trickery. The calves are the most nuanced bodypart to train in the program, and I can tolerate that.
- I dig the inclusion of a heavy set of quad work before hitting the widowmaker. Once again: very 5/3/1, and I feel like it does a good job of allowing me to stay strong. And being able to include a deadlift for my back width work allows a similar benefit.
- Mandatory cardio. I’m honestly pretty good about doing that stuff on my own volition these days, but much like how 5/3/1 has conditioning in it, Jamie Lewis includes required walking, and even Deep Water has an active recovery day, I appreciate programs that are PROGRAMS and not just a lifting routine. Taking the whole picture into account is good. AND, laying out that the cardio is a 30 minute walk gives a good perspective of how hard to work on those non-lifting days. Complying with that has been good for my recovery.
- I love Dante’s approach to nutrition. Once again, his 80/20 approach shines through. He wants dudes to focus on getting BIG while they run DoggCrapp. Leanness can come AFTER we get big. And according to Dusty Hanshaw, Dante’s philosophy was “If you’re going to overeat, it may as well be the stuff that muscle is made of”, which is how he settled on 2g of protein per pound of bodyweight, which aligns exactly with the same conclusion of Jamie Lewis in “Issuance of Insanity”, and is very close to the recommendation in “Feast, Famine and Ferocity” during the Feast phase. Trainees NEED this sort of reinforcement. Plus, with the thermic effect of food being a thing, there’s a fair chance that overeating this much protein is going to result in the same sort of fat spillover that one would experience with carbs or fats. And since insulin AND glucagon tend to rise together when protein is consumed, there shouldn’t be as many blood sugar spikes compared to what one experiences when overeating carbs. I think there’s a lot of method to this madness, and it once again appeals to me as a nutritional alchemist.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT DOGGCRAPP - Workouts run longer than I care. I typically limit my weight training to an hour, and was getting most of my training done in about 45-50 minutes before DoggCrapp, but on DC it’s pretty rare for me to get a workout done in under 65 minutes. A big contributor to this is the warm-up sets. Because the dirty secret of High Intensity Training style programs is this: though there is only “one” workset, there is a LOT of volume to be found in the warm-ups. This style of training uses a ramping up warm-up, where you’re not necessarily burning out in the warm-ups, but you ARE getting a solid pump and putting in some work before you actually get to that work set. You want to really prime your system for max execution. Once again, 5/3/1 already trained you on this with the way Jim builds the lifts leading up to the topset of the mainwork, and we saw this also back in The Complete Keys to Progress. People will LOOK at a DoggCrapp workout and think “I’ll be in and out of the gym in 15 minutes”, which is once again why I say you can’t judge a program until you run it. When you actually do the workouts, to include the warm-ups in a meaningful way, it’s going to take some time to get it done.
- A solution to the above would be to follow a split that has fewer muscle groups per day, but this would require training MORE days per week, which would rob me of the benefit of only lifting 3x per week. Instead, I just wake up 15 minutes earlier.
- And because I’m being a good DoggCrapp citizen, I’m not in there knocking out giant sets or squeezing in a million assistance exercises between sets like I would on other programs. I AM keeping those warm-up sets very tight and short, but I’m still keeping myself focused on the movement, and will even grant myself a full minute rest before the squat and deadlift workouts. It’s hard for me to stay disciplined liked this, and I would prefer to get in a LOT of training density, but I also recognize how much I’ve written about periodization to know that I’ve done a LOT of training density work, so now it’s time to go abbreviated.
- It’s really hard to care about calves, and they take SUPER long to train on the program, because each rep itself is 20 seconds long at least (5 second eccentric, 15 second hold), followed by a 70-90 stretch once it’s done. Just another way for the training days to run very long.
WHAT I AM INDIFFERENT ABOUT DOGGCRAPP - The weighted stretching. It’s just something I do because it’s part of the program, similar to the pullovers in Super Squats. It does suck because it’s just more time spent in the gym (adding to the long run time), but I don’t feel like it’s the secret weapon of the program NOR do I feel like it’s stupid to the point that I don’t need to do it. With only one big workset per bodypart, I figure the loaded stretch is just another way to get some more time under tension.
BORROWING IDEAS - I like to think of DoggCrapp as “conjugate bodybuilding”, and I feel like a lot of its ideas could be lent to other programs. I have an idea in my head of taking Super Squats and turning it into 3 separate workouts to be run in a week (A1-A2-A-3, repeat). Still only go up 5-10lbs each time you cycle back. It would allow the program to be run for longer…which might not be a good thing at all! But also, dig how you do the pullovers in Super Squats and how that is a “weighted stretch”: it was DoggCrapp before it was cool. You could also move the squat to the very end like DoggCrapp and have the DC blessing even if it goes against the instructions of Super Squats.
- Meanwhile, if we’re worried that we’re not getting strong enough with DoggCrapp, one could always take Easy Strength and use that to nudge up numbers. Think about how completely different the programs are: one is about cycling through 3 different workouts, not coming back to a movement for 2 weeks. Easy Strength has you stick with the same movement 5 days a week for 40 workouts. And Dan specifically says Easy Strength is there to take care of the strength work so that you can go on to “everything else”, and in a recent podcast specifically stated bodybuilding work as being included in the “everything else” portion of things. So you could open up with Easy Strength and roll into DoggCrapp if you had that some of training time. And since Easy Strength can be run as infrequently as 2-3x a week, there’s even an avenue to do it on NON-lifting days of DC. Especially if you run “Easy Strength for Fat Loss”, which specifically has you go for a fasted walk AFTER the Easy Strength workout. That may actually be a fantastic idea that I might just have to steal sometime. If you have any pet lifts that aren’t getting the love they need, this could be the answer.
IN SUMMARY Holy crap, look at how much I write when it’s NOT a program review. I haven’t even done a before/after or talked about results, or even my specific set-up this rotation (which is a good overview on how to make the most of a home gym, considering Dante advises strongly against trying that), but needless to say I am progressing well on this and have my first cruise ala “blast and cruise” coming up at the end of May, at which point I’ll have to see what my appetite is for continued crapping.
Thanks for reading! Always happy to discuss further. And if there is any interest in seeing the program in action, I've recorded every session and uploaded it to my youtube. Some of the videos got blocked for muscie, which is lame.

2024.04.30 21:29 Moms_Lil_Wizard We NEED to revisit the Tonalztics of Ralos
In the wake of the Elder Maul Buffs, we really need to address the CHASE ITEM from the new high-level content, the coliseum, does not deliver at the level an item of its caliber should.
These calcs (below) are a bit weird because normally the following items are not used for 'DPS' but I think it helps illustrate the picture (Tbow is added to help gauge what real dps is targetting as well). I'm posting the calcs now but will not address them until later because I know people tend to skim these.
https://dps.osrs.wiki?id=CraftingWasteHeaddress So in short let's look at the design space of the Tonalztics of Ralos, it is a 1-handed, level 75 ranged item from one of the hardest pieces of content in the game. It is clearly designed to draw inspiration from the Dragon Warhammer and Bandos Godsword, being a 6-tick attack style weapon. Unlike the two other items however, it is a weapon that uses charges which USUALLY implies it will be stronger, to balance out the need to keep it charged. Furthermore, the one-handed nature implies that a Twisted Buckler is needed (another END GAME ITEM, 100+ hour to acquire) to reach its true potential, whereas the dragon warhammer can get 98% of the way to is potential off a dragon defender, a 1 hour item.
On the defense-lowering front, except for places where it literally the only option: Leviathan, Zulrah, (Zuk unconfirmed if you can actually lower his defense), Olm, it really is just worse than the melee counterparts, and for several reasons:
- It has to pass the accuracy check twice to reach its potential, that potential often being lower than the melee equivalents, making it somewhat of a reverse fang in this regard, not something you want to hear.
- Something not often included in the discussion because until now it wasn't that pronounced, the DWH and BGS hit VERY HARD, in addition to lowering defense. I'm talking like 70-80+ in Max gear. The Tolan however? can barely scratch a 50 (contingent on 2 accuracy checks as a reminder). On a 6-tick weapon, this almost feels like an oversight. I'm not sure if there was a fear this would be too strong in PvP, but in it's current state, this item is so weak I'm afraid it will somehow result in buffing my attack target.
So let's see what these calcs shows. I did them on the Maiden from Theater of Blood, as this is a great benchmark where defense lowering items play a pivotal role in the encounter.
You will note that while the BGS is a TERRIBLE dps weapon, it is still almost TWICE as strong as the Tonalztics. Even the DWH is 50% stronger roughly. Even the Dorgeshuun Crossbow, A LEVEL 28 WEAPON, exceeds its dps by 50%.
Now let's get to what design space I ASSUMED this weapon could fill.
There is a really confusingly named mechanic in Runescape called overkill. Note this is NOT overkill DPS which is an entirely unrelated concept. Overkill is a somewhat niche mechanic wherein if an enemy dies with multiple hits in the same tick, it will actually die faster (this has applications in speedrun Ca's, ESPECIALLY THE FIGHT CAVES AND INFERNO SPEED RUNS). This is observed with the Sycthe of Vitur and Thralls, which are really the only ways this normally comes up. The talon being a 2-hit weapon, is also capable of doing this, but it is so abysmally bad at damage that you could never justify using it.
So if we ignore PvP (and by Ignore I mean limit this buff to PvM), WHAT IS SO WRONG ABOUT MAKING THE TALONS COMPETITIVE IN DPS WITH A BOWFA? Ranged has this super awkward gap in progression filled exclusively by the BOWFA right now where you have lots of items sitting at like 50% or less of the DPS of the Twisted Bow, then basically only the BOWFA bridging the gap.
You already have to charge it, do content harder than the CG to obtain it, and while its special somewhat justifies it being weaker, I really don't think the power-level of it justifies the fantasy the item is trying to appeal to.
The alternative solution is just buff the max hit to be comparable to a BGS thwack, and honestly, the special attack should have a damage boost or something more exciting, at present it is just worse than its peers.
Thank you and please share your thoughts

2024.04.30 21:26 BullShark_02 RV Solar Setup: A 240V and a 120V inverter, or one 120V inverter and a step-up transformer. Which is more efficient?
Hey all, I'm calculating the cost and energy capacity of different battery, solar, and inverter combos for my future RV I plan to live in for at least a few years. I work from home in Minnesota and am looking for enough solar and battery capacity to live free of shore power for a few weeks at a time. Potentially winter here, though likely I'll leave for the harshest winter months. I've been looking into high efficiency heat pump mini-splits for heating and cooling as I estimate a peak draw ~1200W\h in the winter, and maybe 500W/h in the summer. (Exact numbers TBD until I buy an RV and get exact square footage) Only caveat is the most efficient mini-splits are those that run off of 240V. I'm planning to use 24V batteries, and currently looking at generating a minimum of ~1320W of solar in the winter, and ~3300W max in the summer. I also plan to have supplemental heat with a woodstove, propane, or both depending on how cold of temperatures I actually end up staying in.
So! I'm wondering: efficiency-wise, would it be better to have two inverters (one 240V for the mini-split and one 120V for the rest of the appliances)? Or am I better off sticking to one higher watt inverter and using a step-up transformer to get 240V for the mini-split? I'm not sure which method has the least parasitic losses. Or heck, is 240V not worth it and should I just stick to a less efficient 120V mini-split since the overhead of converting to 240V outweighs the efficiency benefits?
Really any advice here is appreciated.

2024.04.30 20:48 OwlyFox Mom thinks I owe her my time and can read minds.
Let's start with saying that I have auDHD. Both diagnosed by professionals, and the ADHD part was reevaluated 3 times, and the autism was confirmed after I demanded a second opinion.
I am no contact with my dad. He is a diagnosed narcissist. However, I had regular contact with my mom before I got pregnant in the fall of 2021. Since, we (my partner and I) have gone low contact.
My mom loves talking about how she raised us since I got pregnant. Like how I, at 3 and a half, while she was resting from surgery (esthetic) she had my grandmother take us to daycare for 4 weeks and how, in week 2, I gave my grandmother the tricks of how my mom wrangled my brothers who would take off their snow gears while the other was getting dressed ( 2 year old twins). The trick was dressing me first and putting me on the balcony in a high crime area of town, closing the door behind me to not let the cold air in, dressing one of the boys, putting him on the balcony for me to watch, and taking care of the other before putting him on the balcony too, dressing herself, and taking them down the 3 flights of stairs which didn't have child safety gates, to the car with me following. She reminds me every few months, to this day, how her and my grandmother were disappointed in me and resentful for not telling my grandmother sooner.
Or when she tooks us to get our pictures taken at Sears and we were being toddlers (I think I was 5), touching everything and me randomly screaming (a stim I used to have when overwhelmed). She kept telling us to sit and be quiet but we wouldn't, so after 15 minutes, she said she lost patience, left the photographer's waiting area, took us to the parking where she proceeded to hit us bare bottom, one after the other, until she was certain we would 'remember' the punishment for days to come. She confirmed it was about us feeling the pain for days. She laughs about how painful her hands were and how she had feared, at the time, that someone would call my country's equivalent of CPS on her. She laughs even harder remembering that when my dad asked how our day went, I allegedly said " We got a lot a lot of slaps and no pictures." She is proud to say that when we went back the next day we were the picture perfect kids and how many compliments she got on our good behavior.
Or how often she beat my brother's ass until it bruised for climbing furniture.
Or how I would make myself severely sick to not eat the food she cooked. I have sensory issues.
So many more stories of me either being parentified, including leaving me alone for 4 months with my brothers when I was 15 (I had to pay for groceries for all 3 of us with my own money), or me and my siblings being abused. It terrifies me that she could so something similar to my son because she is not all regretting her actions, but she thinks they are funny stories from our childhood. Including denying us food for days on end.
In the last few years, my mental health has been very poor, medication is difficult due tu allergies and side effects, and therapy takes the time it needs. But I am better. So in the last few weeks, my ergotherapist has put a plan in place to help me regain more independence, energy, and physical wellness. It's hard, it takes 4 to 8 hours a day, and I am exhausted by the end of it. My psychologist is all for it. My partner is 100% behind me, encouraging me, helping where he can. It's going well. But because of it, I haven't been very social. I don't reach out to anyone. I'm in bed by 9 every night at the latest.
My mom never reaches out first, but apparently she didn't like that I didn't answer her text at 11:41last night. So she called today at noon. At first it was just small talk. How am I? Bla bla bla. I remind her that I'm doing the ergo plan to get me back on track, she brushed it off. No surprise, she doesn't believe that my mental health is poor. Hers is worse and she doesn't get/need that much help. Good for her, but she hasn't worked a day in over 20 years, lives on disability, and I have done all the hard things for her until I gave birth, and even a few after, including playing armchair psychologist. While I want to get back in the workforce and get better where I will need minimal help in my day to day life.
So she tells me about how she had to cook that ham she got for Easter that I didn't come and eat with her. My son had a respiratory infection severe enough that we could barely keep his athma in check. We had packed a go bag just in case we needed to take him to the hospital again. She lives an hour away by car, or an hour and 20 minutes away from the children's hospital.
Why she didn't keep the ham in her freezer a bit longer, I don't know, but it apparently needed to be cooked today. She proceeded to ask me to come get what she wouldn't eat. I reminded her that my husband has the car at work and that I'm doing my plan. Plus using transits, she is at least 2 hours away and that's if all the bus transfers are perfect and I don't need to wait more than 10 minutes between them. I don't have the time or energy to do this. So I tell her sorry it's not possible. She then said that it's okay, she would just bin all the food. At this point, I am drained and say that I do not know what she wants me to say. She says "Wow, call me when you want to see me." And hanged up.
3 minutes later I get a text from her that I'll translate for you guys.
"You know I have little things for 'my son'. You could just have told me I could come for a little while. Bye."
She never comes to my house. She never offers to make my life easier by doing anything for me. She never hinted at the fact she would be willing to come. She knows I don't get social clues or nice actions. She knows I don't read minds and that I am very bad at guessing what people want from me.
She is so passive-aggressive, always has been if I am honest. But it's getting worse.
She's pissed when I don't make her a priority. She's pissed I don't let her babysit my son, well she says her son, like I'm just the incubator who keeps the toddler until she wants him. She's not allowed unsupervised near my child. She's pissed when I let other people babysit him. She's pissed when I don't call her everyday. She's pissed when I don't take care of things for her. Despite knowing that to prioritize her I was living a very unhealthy life. My needs are always last. She started doing the same to my husband and it bothered me when I realized it. But it still didn't really click.
It really started to click how entitled she was with my time and resources when I was pregnant. I had a very high risk pregnancy due to a lot of complications and the whole time she kept saying she didn't understand why I had so little energy or why I was so sick because when she was pregnant with me 'insert whatever she did, felt, or how she acted'.
It clicked when a week after I gave birth, despite her having been there for the birth after she insisted, she wanted me to visit her, and that she was disappointed that I said no to go back to the hospital to treat my son's severe jaundice instead. "You could have come just for an hour or so." And delay by 4 hours my son's treatment?
It clicked when she wanted me bring my son to her so she could cuddle my child. But be of no other help.
It clicked when she kept telling me to stop pumping milk and just buy formula for him. "It would be easiet." When my son needed a very specific, very expensive formula. Formula we couldn't really afford. "Well I didn't breastfeed any of you and you turned out fine."
But today, it's so evident how entitled she is. How without asking she expected me to drop everything and go to her for food, and how I should have just guessed that I should tell her to visit when she never does. Even when offered, she never comes. But today, I should have guessed that she would.
My partner reminds me that no I can't read minds. And no, I couldn't have guessed. But he's at work and I'm overwhelmed, tired, and defeated. I feel like I'm asking too much to want just 1 parent in my corner. I think it's why I still have any contact with her.
I feel sad.
I needed to vent.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Sorry for the long post. English is not my first language, sorry for all mistakes or if this made little sense. I am also on mobile.

2024.04.30 20:45 Jcorb Blizzard; players actually *WANT* to play Ogres and Vrykul (or Gnolls)
The Earthen are fine, there's no express problem with them. But I don't recall ever once hearing a player voice wanting to play one, let alone in any kind of numbers to consider it "something folks really want".
By all means, add them. I just don't think they're getting anyone pumped for this new expansion.
Ogres, on the other hand, have traditionally been synonymous with the Horde. Which makes it all the more strange they've never made the transition to becoming a fully playable race. I've personally never wanted to play one, but it's clear the desire is there.
I actually really dug their more Roman inspired culture in WoD, which I think is maybe a bit more compelling to the more primitive Ogres in the past, but either works. I would also say, barring any brand-new animations, I think pulling from the Kul Tiran skeletons would make a lot of sense.
Now, for the Alliance counterpart, I would say that Vrykul would be the easiest win in the history of the game. People have wanted Vrykul since the moment they were first revealed back in Wrath. For animations, to mirror the Ogres drawing from the Kul Tirans, I would probably say the Vrykul could safely borrow from the (upright) Orcs, or perhaps the Zandalari (who seemingly share similar body proportions).
An alternative to the Vrykul, however, could be Gnolls. Now, while Dragonflight's Gnolls are clearly using the Worgen models as a base, I would actually argue the original Gnolls in Vanilla/Classic actually look closer to short, squat Tauren models -- just with paws, instead of hooves. The overhall silhouette seems closer, to me.
In any case, like I said, by all means add the Earthen. They're whatever, but are perfectly fine. But I think Ogres and Vrykul (or Gnolls, as a backup) would be much more likely to generate some amount of hype for the future.

2024.04.30 19:57 Lord_Long_Rod Terrifying Bigfoot Encounter I Recently Investigated
About an hour south of my residence there was a recent sighting. A middle aged husband and wife live in a mobile home on about 10 acres of land out in the country. About 50 yards directly behind their home is a cypress swamp that stays filled with water yearlong, save for times of drought. The best I can tell, the swamp and woods go on back a long way, perhaps several hundred acres. My clients’ property line ends at the swamp. I do not know the owner of the swamp and woodlands, but the paint on the trees tells me that it is marked for timber harvest. The owner has clearly sold timber rights to a third party.
The report goes like this. The husband and wife were in their living room around 10:00 pm on a weeknight watching TV. There was scratching on the side of the house, as if someone or something was dragging its claws along the side of the house. It was loud enough to cause concern. It was also way out of place, as the couple lives a half mile away from their nearest neighbor.
The husband fetched his 12 gauge shotgun, loaded it, and went outside to investigate while the woman stayed in the house. The husband walked all the way around the house but saw nothing. He went back inside.
No more than 10 minutes after the husband first went outside, and both he and his wife settled back in their living room, there was a loud bang on the side of their house outside the kitchen. The wife and husband both jumped up immediately, startled by the loud sound. The husband grabbed his still loaded shotgun and angrily went back outside to investigate. At this point their mindset was that someone was outside their house “messing with” them.
The wife again stayed inside the house. After a moment she decided she wanted to look out the living room window to see if she could see anything. The living room lights were on, as was their television. Therefore, there was a substantial reflection on the window that prevented her from clearly seeing out the window. Instead of turning off the lights, the wife decided to move closer to the window, almost putting her nose against it.
As she tried to see out the window, she noticed something strange. It was like something was covering up the window from the outside. Her first thought was that maybe a black trash had blown up against the window, preventing her from seeing out. She then leaned in closer and squinted her eyes.
Suddenly, what was blocking the living room window moved. In fact, it turned sideways, from right to left, and there it was: a Sasquatch face staring right at the wife, only inches away from her face. Apparently, the creature was already standing at the window but it’s head was turned toward the back of the trailer, presumably because it heard the husband approaching. When the wife tried looking through the window, the view was obscured by the left side of its head. Then it turned and suddenly she was face-to-face with the horror outside her home.
The wife screamed. The creature reportedly remained for a moment, looking at her, then left. The wife described the face as resembling a large, black gorilla with a terrifying grimace. When the husband heard his wife scream, he ran back to the front door and entered his home. He found his wife staring at the window with her hands clasping her face. She was in shock. It took several moments for her husband to get anything out of her about what she saw.
After a little bit, the woman told her husband what happened and what she saw. The woman never calmed down, though. The man decided to drive her to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. She was treated for acute hypertension and told to follow up with her regular doctor. The shock was so terrible it had apparently caused her blood pressure to spike.
The wife did not want to go right back home, so they got a hotel room that night. In fact, the wife refused to immediately return home. She stayed with her sister (who lived a half-hour away) for a week. The husband, however, returned home and stayed there for that week. Aside from some strange night time vocalizations, nothing of any significance occurred.
The wife finally returned home. She was still somewhat fearful, but had also started second-guessing her sighting and perception of what she saw. They settled in and have not had any encounters since that night. They report to sometimes hearing odd animal sounds out in the swamp. But they admit that their encounter changed their perspectives and they are now much more cognizant of their surroundings.
I was referred to the clients by a common acquaintance. The foregoing account is based upon information I collected from them. In addition, I was allowed to examine their property, including the mobile home. The clients had no authority to grant me access onto the swamp land, as they do not hold title to said land.
I entered the swamp land anyway, doing an initial survey. It was a typical cypress swamp. Roughly 50-60% of the surface area is covered in dark water. The canopy was very thick. I decided to forego any deep sojourn without my snake boots and being armed.
I thanked the clients for sharing their story with them and told them I would like to come back for a night investigation. They both agreed to allow me access to their land the following night. They reiterated that they cannot give me access to the adjoining swamp land since they did not own the property.
Sunset the following night was scheduled for 8:46 p.m. I arrived at the clients’ homestead at approximately 8:30 p.m. As I was getting ready for my night investigation the husband came out to meet me in his driveway. I immediately noticed a curious change in his attitude.
The husband asked me what I was planning to do with all my gear. I told him that I was outfitted with my usual gear for a Sasquatch hunt, to wit: an AR-10 rifle (my primary killing piece for Bigfoot); a 12 gauge pump shotgun with high capacity magazine, loaded with high-velocity 1 ounce slugs; a 12 gauge sawed-off shotgun for snakes; my .480 Ruger revolver in a shoulder rig; a Glock M40 10mm pistol in a paddle holster on my right hip, and a Colt Delta Elite 10mm 1911 pistol in a paddle holster on my left hip; a Smith 686 .357 magnum revolver in a holster on my gun belt, which was on my waist; a couple of fixed blade tactical knives and a machete hanging from my belt; a few improvised munitions and homemade grenades hanging on the front of my camo tactical vest; a tac hat with mosquito netting; night vision glasses on my head; painted face; full camo clothing; tactical operator gloves, snake boots; and a Stihl chainsaw painted jungle camo on a sling over my shoulder (for sawing up Sasquatch corpses for transport).
I can only assume that the client’s striking change of attitude was the result of the federal government interjecting their agents into this matter. I began interrogating the client about this prospect, and advising him of the dangers posed by the government agents. The client resisted my interrogation. This seemed to confirm my concern.
I was just about to transition to some “enhanced interrogation techniques” when my hunting partner, “Big Dick”, pulled up in his F250. The client wanted to know who he was, so I told him. I then briefed him on what was going to take place tonight as BD prepped himself.
The client then became unruly. BD noticed the commotion and came to my side. The fact that he was carrying a Barrett .50 BMG rifle seemed to further upset the client. I informed BD that the client is in cahoots with the federal government. The client protested my assertion. The client then ordered us off his property and threatened to contact local law enforcement.
Eventually, I agreed to terminate my arrangement with the client. I told him that he would still be billed for my services to date. This was not greeted well. However, BD reinforced my statement by killing the former client’s truck with his .50 BMG and a well placed shot through the engine block.
The man again protested us being on his property. I informed him that we were leaving his property, and entering the swamp behind his house. BD and I parked our truck across the road and cut around the former client’s property to access the swamp. Our hunt was now underway.
We went approximately 2.2 miles into the swamp following a more-or-less straight line. We traveled slowly, using a stop-and-go approach and spread out approximately 50 meters from each other. We heard nothing and encountered no sign. At 1:30 a.m. we began Plan B, which consisted of an onslaught of calls and other methods to attract a Sasquatch. This tactic ended at approximately 3:30 a.m. without positive results.
At this point BD and I consulted. We reached 2 possible conclusions. First, the former clients encounter with the beast frightened it off. In other words, once the monster saw the woman looking at it, it’s identity had been made; the Bigfoot has been caught. Therefore, for self-preservation it left the area, either permanently or temporarily.
Second, the beast knows it was made and is just laying low. If this is the case, then the beast is still out there. Knowing that we would realize no success in the first instance, we decided to use the remainder of the night trying to flush out the animal assuming that the animal is still there but is laying low.
BD and I devised the following plan. I would immediately return to the former clients’ property. BD would wait at the current location. At a pre-agreed time, BD would start moving forward to my position, during which he will begin triggering his incendiary devices and starting a raging wildfire. The goal, of course, is to drive the animal out of the swamp and out into the open downrange, where I would be waiting in ambush to effect a kill shot. Because of the thick forest and swamp, we felt that the animal, if still present, will be bottlenecked onto the property of the former client’s in its escape from the flames.
Due to recent drought conditions the trees and brush sparked like a box of gasoline-soaked matches. The wildfire raged fast and hot. I had set up under the former client’s mobile home, with my rifle pointed toward the swamp and ready to fire.
I heard and smelled the wildfire before I saw it. At first, it appeared as lights through the trees. Then, after just a few minutes, it was a hellish inferno. It was also headed toward my position fast.
I waited as long as I could before falling back to a safer position. Finally, I could wait no longer. As the blaze reached the edge of the former clients’ property, it became clear that BD had fucked up and let the wildfire get out in front of him.
I was sitting on the hood of the former clients’ Toyota Highlander, watching the fire, smoking a cigar, and resting my AR-10 across my lap, when the man and his wife rushed out of their home in their bedclothes. They were in a panic. While they were no longer my clients, I tried to calm them by pointing out that the fire stopped at their property line because he had cut all his trees down.
It was just about then that we heard this terrible howling coming from inside the conflagration. I said it out loud: “That’s him, boys! Sasquatch is coming out!” I took position at the side of the couple’s home and aimed at the swamp. Suddenly, this humanoid creature ran out of the swamp on two legs and into the couple’s backyard. It was on fire and clearly in pain.
I opened fire on the biped. The burst and spray of red liquid out of its head told me that my first shot was on target. I then flipped my rifle to full-auto and dumped the rest of my mag indiscriminately into my target.
Unexpectedly, there was a big explosion, then another. Fire and flaming debris launched from the body. I, unfortunately, knew almost instantly what had happened. “Holy shit”, I said, “I just shot Big Dick!” Apparently, one or more of my bullets activated BD’s incendiary grenades! BD was blown to bits, throwing flaming debris, flesh, and shrapnel everywhere... including onto the former clients and their home.
At this point I will merely report that I managed to successfully extract myself from this situation, with no living witnesses remaining. As I was speeding off from the scene, I was channel surfing on Sirius/XM. I finally settle on Ozzy’s Boneyard, which is playing Iron Maiden’s “Rime Of The Ancient Mariner”. I cranked it, then looked up to the road.
I immediately swerved to miss a giant creature traversing the road in front of me. It was a goddamn Bigfoot! It most likely was on the move due to BD’s forest fire. I stopped and back up to where I last saw it. But unsurprisingly, it was gone. I knew there was no point of even going after one off a roadside sighting. They will belly crawl all over the forest floor, like a spider, and crawl down into a ditch or something to hide. You will walk all over and around it and never know it was there.
I put my truck in gear and drove home. I do not know if this creature was the same Bigfoot that was harassing my late clients. In the grand scheme of things, though, it does not matter. They are here. Reported sightings just allow us to pinpoint locations in order to increase our chances of bagging one.
With the fire and the couple’s sighting, this creature will move on. Therefore, this case file is closed.
