So I've been a fan of the try guys forever (BuzzFeed days) and now at the ripe age of 31, I'm still going strong albeit struggling a little. I find myself only really tuning in for new videos that are food related (WAR and ETM) as they are the tried and tested formats I love. I WISH they would bring back the try wheel cooking episodes as I loved those.
With the new eat the venue style videos, is anyone else REALLY not vibing with Cailyn? (Hope I've spelt that right). I love Desirae, she's there working hard in the background and when she needs to be she's happy on camera. But I feel like Cailyn just sort of inserts herself into the video for no real reason other than to be on camera? She's not there as a guest, she's crew that help create the videos which is amazing but I don't know, I just find her whole attitude frustrating. I just watched the food festival video and she's there ALL THE TIME and it's making me not want to watch the videos any more, which is sad because like I said, long time fan of the guys and it's one of the few formats left that I still regularly tune in for.
Also I miss Eugene. I know he has his other projects going on, and he's always been very up front that he doesn't want to do YouTube forever but man do I miss him. He completes the guys with his attitude and demeanor. Without him, Zach and Keith are funny and whacky, there's nothing to balance it imo.
Idk maybe I'm just craving what they used to be but I feel myself distancing more and more from their videos. Which is sad as they're my comfort channel

1. Death Aura - Des has the ability to enter a death like trance, allowing her to maintain her life, even if she was on the brink of death. In this state, her heart rate slows tremendously so that she actually appears dead. This allows her to use the bare minimum to survive so that she can preserve what life she has left. She has learned over the years to use this ability, to drop her vitals as to not attract monster attention.
   
2. Umbrakinesis - As a granddaughter of Nyx, Des has the ability to control darkness to an extent. Her main use of this power is to shadow travel short distances. She can also make small portals of darkness, to shadow travel objects to herself. Comes in handy every now and then.
   
3. Swordsmanship Expertise - one of her father’s symbols is the sword. As such, Des is highly skilled when it comes to using one. Of course, as all Hunters do, she had a bow and daggers, but she much prefers fighting with a sword if she can.

Of course, she still obeys the rules of the Hunters, and respects her sisterhood, but if she can get away with something out of the norm, she will try.

Backstory:

Desirae doesn’t remember much about her childhood. She was born into slavery, in a plantation in South Carolina in the early 1800s. For her, it wasn’t necessarily a bad life, but she was also a child at the time and didn’t understand much. Her mother tried her best to raise Desirae the best that she could, and her father… well, he was never around much.
Desirae grew up on the same plantation and worked alongside her mother. Something that was rare, so she felt blessed that she was able to stay at her mother’s side for so long. Until the day that she turned 17, did the rumor come that she was to be sold to someone else. She had come of age, and her value for being sold was higher than the work she could produce.
Scared, and not wanting to lose her daughter, Desirae and her mother fled. Of course, they wouldn’t make it far, as the man who owned them was on their trail with his hounds following the scent. Luckily enough for the women, they stumbled across another, who offered to take the girl. Des didn’t want to go, and feared what it would mean for her mother, who simply replied with: “Don’t worry, I’ll be with your father again soon.”
Des didn’t know what to make of that, but went with the other girl. Over the next few days, she would learn about what her father meant, as she was claimed by the very man. The younger girl explained who she was, a Hunter of Artemis, and took Desirae to meet the goddess in their nearby camp. When Des was told she would no longer be hunted or traded by men, she pledged her life to the Lady Artemis and accepted her blessing.
Life as a Hunter
Being one of the older looking girls, Des has often served as a recruiter for the Hunters. A rare honor, as she gets time away from the camp to scout for demigods or girls who might be in trouble. She sees it as a challenge, as she knows there are satyrs out there doing the exact thing she’s doing.
