Hello everyone,
I have played the game for several hours from now and reach 9.0 in all nations (except Sweden sorry) and I'm starting to play 9.3.
I used to play planes on their strengths like staying fast in sabre, use mig at some altitude, etc...
I recently unlocked the mig-19PT but it's still stock and I'm trying to play around his energy retention and try to energy trap my enemies. If nobody plays this with me, I'm doing some passes in the furball at high speed (usually can't do more than 3).
But I'm facing a big problem right now, the games are 5 minutes lengths with one of the teams disintegrated. When it's one my side I have nothing to say but I want to improve on what should I do when there is still 10 enemies alive and I am left single (as it's useless to try to land as they will get you on the airfield easily since aaa is not competent). And most importantly, how should I play before my team disintegrate to change the issue in my favor.
I tried to dogfight more early with the mig-19 but it ends up that the fight move to the furball and I'm getting third partied with absolutely no impact on the game.
As I want to remember, all the 9.3 planes I play are new, so barely stock performance with no missiles.

Howdy, I'm Andy (they/he), and I'm a 19-year-old forever DM. Well, at least until I started playing PbPs. I've been wanting to play The Wild Beyond the Witchlight for so long now, so I bit the bullet and decided I wanted it to be the very first PbP campaign I DM'd. I'm honestly so obsessed with the aesthetics of both the Carnival and the Feywilds, and I'm looking for players who are, too!
The version of this campaign we'll be playing is based on IndieRex's The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: Reimagined as well as some of the other supplemental material online. The original adventure spanned levels 1-8, but the Reimagined adventure spans levels 1-14. This campaign emphasizes roleplay and non-violent solutions to problems, but combat is still very much an option.
As a GM, I prioritize roleplay, collaborative storytelling, and player choice. It also doesn't matter to me where you keep/make your sheets, but Avrae will be available for rolling. Personally, I prefer to use DiceCloud or MPMB's PDF sheets when keeping digital copies, but again, you may use whatever you like.

2024.05.19 19:53 Popochki My Issue with "Continuous Consent" in My Body My Choice Agrumentation.

First quick side note, I am here to only talk about this topic as a moral question not a legal one. Legality arrives from morality, at least in this question with a 100% certainty. If we as a whole society believed that abortion was morally neutral and beneficial to society, it would be universally legal.
My position is Pro-Abortion. My position is not Pro-Choice. The outcome of both of these positions is often similar - abortion being a right (minus some minor differences). I make the destintion howerever, to better demonstrate how I arrived at my conclusion (of abortion being morally permissible), or rather what logical process I did not use.
Now onto the topic. There are two deductive arguments for abortion from the persepctive of "My Body My Choice" :
Argument (1) Initial consent:
Premise (1.1): Intrusive/body altering actions such as fertilization needs to be consented to. (Bodily autonomy)
Premise (1.2): Fetus does not have stated above consent.
Premise (1.3): You´re allowed to remove entities that ignore your consent and infringe on your bodily autonomy.
Conclusion(1): It is justifiable to remove the fetus.
Argument (2) Continuous consent:
Premise (2.1): Continuous body altering actions such as pregnancy or other actions that continuously limit your freedom need to be consented to continuously. (Bodily autonomy)
Premise (2.2): Fetus does not have stated above consent.
Premise (2.3): You´re allowed to remove entities that ignore your consent and infringe on your bodily autonomy.
Conclusion(2): It is justifiable to remove the fetus.
Now by writing the arguments out in this way, I first and foremost want to establish and demonstrate that I understand the position and I hope you agree that I can accurately represent it. These arguments are valid, but I do not believe they´re sound. **VALID meaning they logically follow through from premises to the conclusion, SOUND meaning that the arguments are VALID and the premises are true**
I disagree with premises P(1.2) and P(2.1), I however want to ONLY present my opinion/have a conversation on P(2.1) at this point purely because that interests me more. I only wanted to lay out the entire MBMC arguemnt to show understanding of it as a whole on my part.
Dissecting the Premise (2.1):
Idea of continous consent is most commonly used in refernce to sexual acts between persons. It is the idea that after stating/demonstrating consent to engage in any sexual act a person still has the right to stop it at any given point by revoking consent. The fact that consent can be revoked implies that until the moment you revoked it, it was implicitly continuously given to the other person (you did not have to constantly say yes over and over again), meaning that consent is continous. My opinion is that this is how it has to work, any sexual activity requires continuous consent and that a person has to have an ability to revoke consent.
My argument is that continous consent is not always a requirment:
The quickest part to knock out is that obviously, continuous consent can only be applied to continuous actions. That is for example why in Argument (1), Premise (1.1) does not mention continuous consent, because fertilization is, practically, an instantaneous action. One physically can not have continuous consent to an instantaneous action. You can not undo you swiping your credit card at a casheer register. Can not unpress the play button on a slot machine.
It already logically follows that continuous consent is at least not always applicable to every action, it does not apply to instantaneous actions.
I now want to go a bit deeper into what continuous consent actually means. Any action that has to do with you requires consent, be it with your body or your property. In the example above when we talked about sex, there was initial consent to begin the activity, then there was continuous consent that could be revoked to stop. Continous consent as a concept is actually the abilty to demand a continuous action to stop, your initial consent was the permision of that action not to just begin, but also proceed for a prolonged period of time. There are plenty of times when the continuous consent can not be actually revoked, or more specifically you can demand for an action to stop but can not within reasonable expectation expect it to stop or stop instantaneously.
Some just general simple examples to simply demonstrate my point:
-When you apply for a visa, you give your documents (property) to the embassy for a review. In the case where you for whatever reason desire them to stop the process and the possession of your documents and withdraw your application , the abilty to actualy exercise your continous consent now entirely depends on your ability to jump through their bureaucratic hoops where afterwards they are still within their right to deny.
-If you´re travelling by plane, you do not have the ability to succefully exercise continous consent. You can request the plane to land because you no longer consent to being there, but reasonably they can refuse, denying you continuous consent of being there.
Then the next logical question arises, when is continuous consent actually a requirement? We see it is definitely applicable to sex, it is definitely not applicable in any meaningful way to airplane travel. Can we categorize when it is applicable and when not?
The real answer in my opinion lies entirely in the nature of the action, or more specifically: Is it possible/reasonable to have continous consent in this situation? If the answer is yes, then you have it. If the answer is no, you do not.
I have continous consent as a passenger of a taxi to demend a stop and instantly leave. I do not on a metro, because well, it's just simply not possible. I have continous consent while getting a tattoo to completly stop the process. I do not while in surgery under anesthesia, because well, it's simply impossible. All of this ends up being completely fine, because when we consent to an action that would impede our bodily autonomy, we do it with the knowledge that that is the case. I buy a metro ticket knowing I can't leave mid ride, I agree to a surgery knowing I will be asleep, I agree to a tattoo session because I have a reasonable expectation that if it is too much I can stand up and leave. This is where we have informed consent.
Now how does this all apply to premise (2.1), well above all what mattes is how the idea of continuous consent applies to pregnancies. Well, if we follow through with everything that I stated above:
But this implies that the Argument (2) is not sound, because the premise (2.1) is only true if conlusion (2) is true where it should be the other way around making me conclude that the idea of Continuous Consent does not in any way effect the abortion debate and is not a valid argument.
Thats it.
Oh and please, I´m here for a civil discussion. I just want somebody to reasonably critisize my line of logic where then we can discuss if 1. critisism is valid and what does it change or 2. we figure out why critisism is not valid together. Oh and I hope I at least maybe helped someone rationalize why they felt off about the continuous consent part that gets invoked so often.

I would like to give a major shout out (and will be doing so directly to Delta as well) to the flight crew and the passengers who saved a man's life last night on my flight from Ft. Myers to Minneapolis.
An elderly man in first class went into cardiac arrest. The flight crew called for medical help and literally 10-12 people passengers came from all directions to offer their help. (There must have been a few medical conferences/events happening in Fort Myers/Naples because there were several orthopedic surgeons on board.) Luckily, one passenger was a trauma neurosurgeon. She along with one of the ortho surgeons and a flight attendant who had previously been a nurse (and the support of the rest of the flight crew) set up an IV for meds and used the AED and did compressions until the man came around. I've never been so happy to hear someone talking than when the patient began to answer each time they called his name. The flight attendant held his hand while we landed and when he thanked them, she said, "We would do this all over again just for you." These people worked quickly, carefully, and with assurance to save this man's life. It was amazing to witness. Other passengers moved seats or held equipment/supplies on their laps to support the medical team. Two men physically supported the man's elderly wife during landing because she wanted to stay on the ground with her husband instead of taking a seat. (Note that this is the second time I have witnessed this life-saving effort on board a Delta flight and, oddly enough, on the exact same route and with a passenger in the same exact row and side of the plane as this man. That first man left the plane still unconscious and I've wondered ever since if he made it.)
Our flight diverted to Des Moines where EMS boarded and took the man to a local hospital. We stayed on the ground in Des Moines for a little over an hour after the man and his family left while the pilots completed critical paperwork about the medical event and then filed a flight plan to get us back to Minneapolis. A cleaning crew boarded to take care of any bio hazards left behind. We were able to get up and use rest rooms. Flight crew passed out waters. One flight attendant stopped at each first class seat to confirm passenger names and emails in order to send out a thank you from Delta. They were very professional and it was actually pretty amazing to see them return to their regular work so quickly after such a profound event.
I would also like to add that there were three men in first class - each sporting full-on branded gear from the large commercial real estate company in Edina, MN that they work for (or, in one case, founded) - who seemed not to appreciate the seriousness of the situation. One took pictures of the man on the ground more than once during the incident and sent it out to friends. They asked the flight crew for drinks (during). They joked loudly about whether they would want to die on other airlines (like Spirit). Once we had landed and were on the ground in Des Moines, after the passenger and his family had been removed and while we waited to depart for Minneapolis, they complained about the length of time we were on the ground telling the flight attendants to let the pilot know "R is for reverse." They complained that they couldn't be served alcohol while on the ground. One literally got up and accosted the pilot at the cockpit door, telling him to hurry things along. They called Delta customer service while on board to complain and see if they could make the flight leave faster, and then later to get more points for their trouble. They joked about how they should have stayed in Florida and gotten more hookers and gone back to Twin Peaks for drinks. When we landed, no surprise that these entitled captains of American finance jumped in front of other passengers to deplane more quickly as well.
I hope they know that should anything happen to them on board, Delta's crew and passengers with medical expertise would step in and do this for them too, no questions asked. These crew members, these passengers who are willing to put their skills and experience to use, and the passengepatient and their families who never wanted or expected this to happen on board deserve their respect.

PARSONS ISLAND, Md. — With the Chesapeake Bay sloshing at his knee-high boots, Darrin Lowery stood back and squinted at a 10-foot-tall bluff rising above a narrow strip of beach. To the untrained eye, this wall of sandy sediment is the unremarkable edge of a modest island southeast of the Bay Bridge. To Lowery, a coastal geologist, its crumbling layers put the island at the center of one of the most contentious battles in archaeology: when and how humans first made their way into the Americas. The story of the first Americans has long been a matter of public and scientific fascination, undergirded at times by vicious disagreements. The timeline of when people arrived has shifted earlier in grudging steps over the past century, and scientists today mostly agree people were in the Americas at least 15,000 years ago. Lowery’s site and others like it could revise the story again, pushing back the timeline earlier than most experts thought possible. In total, Lowery and a motley crew of collaborators have discovered 286 artifacts from the site on the island’s southwestern edge. The oldest, they reported, was embedded with charcoal dated to more than 22,000 years ago, a time when much of the continent would have been covered in ice sheets. If Lowery is right, Parsons Island could rewrite American prehistory, opening up a host of new puzzles: How did those people get here? How many waves of early migration were there? And are these mysterious people the ancestors of Native Americans?

(Michael Robinson Chávez/The Washington Post) New claims of sites dated this far back face a wall of skepticism, rooted in legitimate scientific scrutiny and in the threat they pose to long-entrenched views. To complicate matters, Lowery — who has been affiliated with the Smithsonian but does much of his work independently — presented the results of his study of Parsons Island in a 260-page manuscript posted online rather than in a traditional peer-reviewed journal. The peer-review process is designed to help validate scientific claims, but Lowery argues that in archaeology it often leads to a circle-the-wagon mentality, allowing scientists to wave away evidence that doesn’t support the dominant paradigm. He says he isn’t seeking formal publishing routes because “life’s too short,” comparing this aspect of academic science to “the dumbest game I’ve ever played.”
The island is also a challenging site to study for a variety of reasons — most poignantly because it is rapidly eroding as the land subsides and sea level rises. The spot where the artifacts were found is now covered by the choppy waters of the bay. “The visit reinforced my will to invest my time into this time period, because it’s a very fragile record,” said Sebastien Lacombe, an archaeologist at Binghamton University, who visited the island in 2017. “It’s at risk of disappearing, and we’re at risk of [allowing] these sites and artifacts to lose their meaning forever.” ‘A weirdo kid’

In 1977, 9-year-old Lowery picked up a distinctive fluted stone projectile point. A few years later, he saw something similar on a documentary on public television, in which a Smithsonian archaeologist explained it was a Clovis point, a relic of what most people then believed were the first Americans. For the last half of the 20th century, the peopling of the Americas followed a tidy narrative. Humans traveled from Siberia across a land bridge that connected Asia and North America during the last Ice Age, when sea levels dropped. They then migrated southward around 13,000 years ago, when the ice sheets covering the continent retreated and exposed a previously impassable inland route. These people — named after a site in Clovis, N.M. — left behind distinctive, fluted stone points that have since been found scattered across North America. Story continues below advertisement
Lowery turned to his dad and said, “I found one of those.” He found more by walking the shoreline every day. Lowery made discoveries as he meandered, and he began to understand how seasonal patterns, sediment movement, wind and waves could unearth ancient treasures. “I was a weirdo kid,” he recalled. He trained as a geologist, and it was geology that initially attracted Lowery to study Parsons Island. In 2010, he published an article in Quaternary Science Reviews describing layers of windblown silt deposited between 13,000 and 41,000 years ago at Miles Point in eastern Maryland. But the geological record is like reading the CliffsNotes version of a book, and he was frustrated by an “unconformity” in the sediment layers where thousands of years were missing, like someone had ripped out those chapters.

(Michael Robinson Chávez/The Washington Post) Lowery and a colleague were prowling around in a whaler, looking for a spot that might fill in the blanks, when they spotted a black streak of sediment rising up out of the bay. They pulled up to Parsons Island and thought they had found “the Rosetta stone” to decode the geology. Parsons is a 78-acre island less than a mile offshore that is privately owned by the Corckran family, which uses it as a family retreat. With the Corckrans’ permission, Lowery and colleagues began to visit regularly. The bluff layers preserved a remarkably intact geologic timeline going back more than 40,000 years. Then, one morning in August 2013, the team discovered a leaf-shaped prehistoric stone tool jutting out of this crumbling wall. They knew from the work they’d already done that it was probably quite old. Story continues below advertisement
On a recent visit to the island, geoarchaeologist Daniel Wagner demonstrated why. He stepped back to scan the cliff, then tapped a narrow spade into a light tan sediment layer just above his head. That, he said, is the geologic “chapter” where they’d expect to find Clovis artifacts. Lower layers were set down before Clovis. The palm-size tool Lowery and his colleague found came out of the dark sediment layer near their knees. The scientists used two methods to date the sediment around the artifact, both showing it was more than 20,000 years old. They scoured the beach on 93 visits and conducted a formal, top-down excavation, collecting the 286 artifacts. They sent out sediment to labs that specialize in studying ancient pollen and microfossils called phytoliths to help reconstruct the ecosystem at the time. Back then, this region wouldn’t have been a coastline. The sediment the tools are embedded in dates to the “last glacial maximum” — the scientific term for the most recent coldest period of the Ice Age. In the final analysis, Lowery thinks the artifacts may have been transported downslope before they were buried, making them between 15,000 and 20,500 years old. “This was a swale, where water was collecting,” Lowery said, envisioning the ancient landscape. “You’ve got a dune. It’s got sedges and small trees on it that are windblown and all contorted, and then behind it you’ve got a little pond.” That pond may have attracted prehistoric bison, musk ox and llamas, whose fossilized molars he’s found scattered on the island shore. And it may have been what attracted the mysterious people who left behind a cache of stone tools. A story in flux

But while the long-held “Clovis First” theory has crumbled over the past three decades, that has only deepened the debate about how much earlier the first Americans arrived. Claims of early sites present a challenge on two fronts. The first is technical: Dating a site convincingly can be difficult, depending on the context. Sediments can shift or be disturbed. What at first look like artifacts can turn out to be “geofacts,” created not by humans but by natural processes or animals. As a result, many pre-Clovis sites “enjoy a Warhol-esque 15 minutes of fame, and then they disappear” because of real problems with the geology or the methods, said archaeologist James Adovasio. In 1973, he began excavating Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Pennsylvania, which dated back 16,000 years. It was instantly mired in controversy, and the site still has its critics today. The second challenge reflects the culture of science. For a long time, people who claimed to find pre-Clovis sites were swimming upstream against deeply entrenched thinking. Tom Dillehay, an archaeologist at Vanderbilt University, began working on a site in southern Chile called Monte Verde in 1977, which was dated to 14,500 years ago. He recalled a group of researchers he calls the “Clovis police,” scientific gatekeepers who summarily rejected any pre-Clovis sites, sometimes for valid reasons and sometimes as a knee-jerk reaction. Monte Verde began to change that. In 1997, a group of respected archaeologists visited the site and declared it authentic. “It took about 25 to 30 years for Monte Verde to be accepted,” Dillehay said. “We went through hell.”

He noted that he drew on multiple labs and methods for dating the Parsons Island artifacts in an effort to ensure that any one extremely old date isn’t a fluke. He’s also invited other researchers in to visit and study the site. That approach irritates some scientists. David Meltzer, an archaeologist at Southern Methodist University, said in an email that he would not discuss Lowery’s claims “until they go through the wringer of peer review and get published.” Others like Stuart Fiedel, an independent archaeologist based in western Massachusetts who has been skeptical of other sites, say the site should not fly under the radar just because of Lowery’s unconventional process. “There are people I know in the field who will not pay any attention to it, because it has not been peer-reviewed, which I think is kind of sticking your head in the sand,” Fiedel said. “It’s there. We can’t act as [if] nothing’s been found there.” Share this article Share
A bigger issue may be the site’s rapid erosion. Most of the artifacts were found after they’d fallen out of the bluff, which means their place in the geologic timeline is obscured. Nine artifacts were found in place, and only three were able to be dated using charcoal flecks found next to them. Steven Forman, a geoscientist at Baylor University, helped date the sediment layers at Parsons Island, corroborating findings from another lab. He said that it’s hard to find the artifacts in the kind of bulletproof geological context needed to support extraordinary claims. “The case is not as tight as we like to see it with other sites,” Forman said. Michael Waters, an archaeologist at Texas A&M University who has worked on pre-Clovis sites and excavated at Parsons Island, thinks he probably got there too late, when most of the artifacts had already been eroded out. Still, he pays someone to monitor the bank profile on a regular basis, because he’s ready to jump on a plane if they see something in place. “Too bad we didn’t get there four to five years sooner,” Waters said. Last fall, a study published in the journal Science described fossilized human footprints discovered at White Sands National Park in New Mexico that have been dated to between 21,000 and 23,000 years ago. That stunning finding suggests people were here during the Ice Age — much earlier than most experts thought possible if the first humans arrived via the Bering land bridge and inland corridor. The dates at White Sands are still being disputed because of questions about the methods. But the timeline collides head-on with another exciting line of evidence: studies of ancient DNA. By examining genetic material preserved in bones and teeth and comparing those samples to modern populations, scientists have been able to track when populations mingled and became isolated from one another, offering a new window into patterns of human migration. In broad strokes, they’ve found that the ancestors of Native Americans split from ancient Siberian populations no earlier than 23,000 years ago. The studies can’t say where such splits took place, but many scientists interpret genetic evidence to mean that the ancestors of modern people weren’t in the Americas until much later. Genetic studies suggest that Native American ancestors traveled into what is now the United States between 17,500 and 14,600 years ago. Joe Watkins, a senior consultant for Archaeological and Cultural Education Consultants in Tucson and a Choctaw tribal member, said that he sees a few problems with using the still-evolving DNA evidence to decide how ancient sites are related to modern-day people. “The reality is genetics does not equal culture,” Watkins said. He also argued that there are still too few samples of ancient DNA in the Americas to be sure they capture the whole story. “Trying to create population histories based on 10 people, if you will, is a little bit of a scientific conundrum,” Watkins said. It could be that additional ancient genomes will one day help fill in the blanks. Another possibility is that earlier sites could represent small, isolated groups of people who didn’t contribute to the ancestry of living Native Americans.

(Michael Robinson Chávez/The Washington Post) “Let’s suppose you have a successful population colonizing an area, and then one day, 15 males go out and get eaten by a short-faced bear,” Lowery said. “You reduce the genetic diversity, and bada boom, bada bing, game over.” All this explodes the neat picture of one population migrating into the Americas as ice sheets retreated, hunting big animals like mammoths and giant sloths, driving them into extinction as they went. If there were small groups making their way into the New World, with different stone tool technologies, and far earlier than previously believed, how did they get here? People could have migrated along the coast by boat, following a “kelp highway.” It’s also possible the ice sheet was not as impenetrable as experts have long thought. Lowery’s longtime collaborator, Dennis Stanford, proposed that people crossed the Atlantic Ocean in what is known as the Solutrean Hypothesis, though that idea has been rejected by many archaeologists. To resolve the question, scientists need to keep looking for more evidence. Archaeology is a historical science, and unlike chemistry or biomedicine, where researchers can perform the same experiment over and over again to see if they get the same results, consensus is built by argument, counterargument and new evidence. To a certain extent, older ideas and prejudices also fall away as new people enter the field, said James Feathers, who performed dating on samples from Parsons Island before he retired from the University of Washington. “Sometimes you have to wait for people to die off,” Feathers said.

He acknowledges that the sites, perhaps a little bit like him, are “persnickety” but that shouldn’t deter interest in them. Instead, it should spur more. He noted that if a pod of silverfish was found gnawing on documents in the National Archives, people would be galvanized to act. “I view it as my swan song,” Lowery said, “to say you can learn a lot from [an] eroding site if you do a little bit of effort and look at it systematically.”

On November 24, 1971, an individual identified as Dan Cooper boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 305, which was scheduled to fly from Portland to Seattle—a relatively short journey of about 30 minutes. Witnesses described Cooper as a middle-aged man dressed in a dark suit with a black tie adorned with a mother-of-pearl tie clip, and a crisply ironed white collared shirt. After taking his seat, he calmly lit a cigarette and ordered a bourbon and soda, paying in cash.
During the flight, Cooper passed a note to a 23-year-old flight attendant, catching her attention with the words, “Miss, you’d better look at that note. I have a bomb.” Although the exact wording of the note remains a mystery as Cooper retrieved it after the attendant read it, his demands were clear: $200,000 in “negotiable American currency” (equivalent to about $1 million today), four parachutes, and a fueled truck waiting in Seattle to refuel the aircraft upon arrival.
Upon receiving the demands, the flight attendant informed the captain, and the airline’s president authorized complete cooperation. To the other passengers, the delay in landing was attributed to mechanical issues.
At 5:39 p.m., the plane landed in Seattle, where an airline employee delivered the requested cash and parachutes. Cooper then permitted all passengers and two flight attendants to disembark. While the plane was refueling, Cooper detailed his plan to the remaining crew: a flight path southeast towards Mexico, with a planned stop for refueling in Nevada. Two hours later, the aircraft departed again. However, upon landing in Reno, Cooper's absence was discovered. The media mistakenly referred to him as “DB Cooper.”
Despite extensive efforts, Cooper was never located or heard from again. Neither the parachute nor the ransom money was ever found. In 1980, a family vacationing in Oregon stumbled upon several packets of the ransom money, identifiable by their serial numbers. This discovery prompted a thorough search of the area, yet no further clues emerged. There have been various speculations over the years, including one linking Cooper to the fictional character Don Draper from "Mad Men." In 2017, a parachute strap was found at a potential landing site attributed to Cooper, adding a new twist to the enduring mystery.

2024.05.19 18:04 Rich-Astronaut2966 F5E American, gun pod or no?

I’ve been using the f5e for a while now. I have it spaded and expert crew. But I can’t figure out if I like it better with the gun pod or without. I wanted to know what you guys like to run on it. Including if you use vertical targeting, and what distance you set it to. I’ve ground my way to the f5e but I still have a lot to learn. Like I’ve gotten some decent shots with and without the use of the ballistic computer. But it could find a way to make the radar lock more consistent then I would try using it more. Do I play high, low. Etc. I average about 2-4 kills a game which normally consists of 1 missile kill, and the rest guns. So I can aim pretty decent I just was wondering if it was worth strapping that weight to your plane for a 30m. I do tend to have easier shots with it. However, the extra weight makes turn fighting and surviving all the migs a little harder. Just wanted y’all’s thoughts on that. Thank you

2 Canadian trip reports
After posting about a recent trip on the Ocean, I realized I'd never written anything for either trip on the Canadian. Better late than never?
I took my first trip on the Canadian in October of 2023. I'd taken a couple of trips on Amtrak after seeing some train videos and thought it might be a fun vacation. Amtrak was pretty awful in several ways, so I checked the Via Rail website, but everything was sold out for months. I kept checking the site and someone must have canceled a ticket because an October berth opened up and I booked it.
Let me just say...if you're thinking about taking the trip and hesitating, BOOK the trip. There's absolutely nothing I didn't like about the trip. Even things that some people dislike (lack of connectivity/Wifi, no outlets in the berths) are things that, I think, make the trip fun. There are a LOT of videos on YouTube that will give you all the information you need about the trip, so I'll just highlight the things *I* liked the best.
I felt like a kid at camp (and I'm almost 60, so that's something!). Getting onto this train with all these other sleeper passengers, all heading in the same direction, all (happily) stuck in the same moving boxes...it's time out of our daily lives. Toronto to Vancouver, no one sits around with noses buried in their phones or laptops the first couple of days because there's very little reception. Seems like most people quickly started leaving phones back in cabins or berths.
Everyone mentions the lack of outlets in the berths. So? ;) When you're not on your devices for hours every day, you'd be amazed at how long the battery lasts. Also, there's outlets in the bathroom right next to the berths and those get shared (I bring a power strip so there's more plugs). It was also a fun thing to walk through cars and find random phones propped along walls, left in an activity car, etc, to charge. Almost like a treasure hunt and I love the fact that it feels SAFE to do that.
The sense of community on the train is something you have to experience. You can't "see" that on a video. You have to be there to feel it. You meet people from so many different places, form friendships and share meals, but also, if you're traveling for alone time and don't want to speak to anyone, you can do that, too. You can watch the scenery for hours and hours, read a book, work a puzzle by yourself in the activity room, or take naps.
As for the scenery, I've done the route twice now and I still watch videos and I think "Where was that? I missed that!" October had some fall colors, the March 2024 trip had amazing snow and frozen rivers. I enjoyed the snow more because that's a novelty for me, but I truly believe that any time of the year, the scenery will be spectacular.
As much as I love seeing the Canadian Shield, the Fraser River, all the small towns, etc, it's the inside of the train that I love more. Listening to people CONNECT with each other, even just temporarily, makes me have hope in the world. For those few days, I feel like everyone works a bit harder to get along, to be kind to each other, to accept our differences, because yeah, you're sharing a metal box on wheels for several days. You're "dancing" in the sleeping car corners so that you can pass each other. You're bumping into each other as you walk the train on a particularly bouncy section of rail. Someone shares something you forgot to bring while you share something of yours with someone else.
Back to the kid at camp thing...I LOVE the berths. The lower berths have the biggest beds, they're cushioned, the bedding is high quality and when you close the canvas curtains, it's private. Like having your very own tent fort as an 8 yr old. ;) Yes, you have to walk 3 ft to the bathroom at 1 am in the morning, but in all my bathroom trips (again, old-ish lady here), I've been the only one out and about. There's something about seeing someone's hands creep out underneath the curtains to stow away shoes or grab socks that just tickles me.
The staff on Via Rail has been amazing. All of them. Nothing more to say there. Just really nice people with ready smiles for annoying passengers (me) who talk too much.
I could write so many details, but everyone's train trip is different according to their likes and dislikes. That's one of the amazing things about train travel, I think. You can make it what you want it to be. I've done solo trips and trips with family. I have another trip on the Canadian booked from Toronto to Edmonton round trip (because flying home from Vancouver is annoying), and then Toronto to Vancouver booked in November AND February (because even annoying plane rides home are worth it to ride the Canadian the full route).
So that's my review. ;) If you're thinking about it, do it. Use one of the Via Rail sales or other discounts, don't worry about the time of the year (it's all fantastic in different ways) or the direction (do the route that works best for your travel plans). If you're waiting to make it a "bucket list" event, quit waiting. Get on the train!
This is another example of why I get so tickled on the train. I didn't build this. Have no clue who did. But the fact that someone DID just made me smile. And every time we walked through that vestibule, the little guy changed a bit...and when he was no longer there so people could get on and off the train, we missed seeing him. Obviously, snowmen in the vestibule isn't a Via Rail feature, but it's an example of the novelty of the train.

2024.05.19 16:42 _queerlybeloved I'm terrified of being on an 11 hour flight.

My mom and I are going abroad this summer, which we've done a number of times in the past, but we haven't traveled since COVID and all my sensory tolerances are so much lower than they used to be. I feel like once we get to our destination I'll be able to take care of myself, but I'm so so stressed about the long unbroken flight (10.5-11 hours). I think the longest I've done in the past is maybe 7 hours? We've always broken it up before but this made the most sense.
My mom and I paid extra to have a two seater row so at least we can get up a lot and switch (we're both hyperactive inattentive). But I'm so anxious about the boredom and discomfort in store. Even with my iPad and phone and in flight movies and games and noise cancelling headphones and travel pillow and neck pillow, I know that two hours in I'll be ready to chew my own leg off from the AuDHD discomfort. I will try to sleep but I have sleep issues and most likely will not be able to, I can't even nap at home under ideal conditions and never can usually sleep on transit/sitting up. I just keep realizing just how long 11 hours is and starting to panic.
I routinely do an up to 5 hour flight and that's hard, but easier if I have my laptop to watch something on and my iPad to do a puzzle or play a game on at the same time (I cannot just watch something and do nothing else! Not enough stimulation!) but I can't bring my laptop to Europe, which also makes me really anxious bc it's a regulation tool. I'm most anxious about the physical discomfort and how slowly time will pass. Like imagine finishing 3 full length movies and you still have 4+ hours left. Ahhh!!!
Any advice, commiseration, or suggestions welcome. I feel so lucky to travel, but also, the thought of having to sit on a plane for that long low key makes my wanna die. My body hurts just thinking about it. I'm probably going to pay for Internet even if it's shitty just to have more to do. If I could find a hyperfixation to indulge in it would be easier but idk what it would be that's easy to do on plane. I'm not a big handheld gamer. Are there any really addictive iPad or phone games you like??
I've considered telling the flight staff off the bat that I have a disability and will need to walk around the cabin as much as I can but I don't know how realistic that is. Also don't suggest upgrading our seats, it cost hundreds extra literally to just sit in a two seater row, it would be thousands of dollars more to even move to an exit row because British airlines is fucked.
I've seen those little feet hammock things to put over the tray table but when I tried one one time it really didn't work.

Hello everyone, once again welcome to Boyerstree, update 2. 10 years is a long time, even in Banished, yet not that much has changed. Let me give you a quick tour.
Towncentre
First up is the towncentre. When I say not much has changed, I mean it, but it's hard to spot under all those trees. Why are there so many trees you wonder? Well, the town is called BoyersTREE after all ;) Jokes aside, since the very beginning I had the idea to fill the space between the two roads up with something. 3 tiles of streets should be enough to stop any potential fire from spreading, but having such huge highways through the village isn't really that nice to look at. In my opinion, at least. So I wanted to fill that empty space with trees because of the random name the village got. That's why I build a forester in the centre, to plant these trees. I still plan to build houses in the (previously) empty spots. Now it might take a bit longer to build them, but that should be allright. Next to the forester I build a Herbalist, because I thought that might be of some use. Also, one comment mentioned to have a Herbalist in the centre prevents the villagers from walking all the way into the forest if they are sick, so there's that benefit as well.
What's also new is the cemetery up top. I planned to make one as big as possible, but realized I didn't have the stone to spare. So instead, I split it up into quarters and will build a new quarter if one is necessary. Right now, I have about 20 graves filles out of 40 possible. So while there is still enough space, it showed me that it was about high time I built one. Further up North you can see the newest addition to the village, a Pasteur with 3 whole sheep in it! Trading is starting to pay off, Wool production can officially start soon! I'm looking forward to having warm coats, I think with the conditions on harsh that will be a huge benefit. The final addition is a little harder to spot, just below the cemetery I built additional barns. I've decided to up the production limits of all necessary resources considerably, especially food. As a result, I started to run out of space. These new barns are built just on the edge of the influence area of the Forester as to not reduce it's productivity too much. At the same time, the main culprit why I'm running out of space are these Foresters Hubs, so the barns are quite close to the source, which is nice.
The most effort during these 10 years was spent on building up the Traiding-Hub.
Trading-Hub
Since not that many Traders showed up and they also did not have the resources I required, I decided to improve my chances by adding more Tradingposts. 2 more have been added and I started to add the buildings which actually benefit from the imported goods, mainly the Blacksmith. Fun story here, I wondered why the Traders have not been delivering my custom orders. I later found out that while I have placed custom orders, I had left the slider of when to place custom orders on "Never" instead of "Every visit"... I'm an idiot. Anyway, one of my biggest gripes with the game since Time Immemorial has been that the Blacksmith needs coal for Steel Tools, while the villagers use Coal to heat their homes and there is nothing you can do to give the blacksmith higher priority. And I imagine even if you could, that would not help much because there are many times more houses than Blacksmiths. The only thing you can do is see to it that the Blacksmith gets to the coal first, which is what I'm planig to do here. Ideally that would mean the Trading Hub is far away from the village, but that would not work too since the people need to walk to their working station. And if I place their houses at the Trading Hub, we're back on square one, so I might as well build some houses nearby. As you can see, I plan to expand the village in that area as well, I've even started on a market. While that contradicts my strategy with the Coal delivery, I hope that the impact will not be that severe. Time will tell, as this part of the village won't be settled until I run out of space at the top. All three Tradingposts are stocked with resources, mainly Firewood, Cloth and Herbs, and ready to go. Up until this screenshot I have imported a grand total of 30 iron, but I'm expecting a sharp increase soon. Also I'm impressed how much I was able to build with the provided Stone and Iron alone. And I was afraid of running out of material at the year 15 update...
Next up I really want to start the alcohol export going. But for that I need to import the resources first, namely apple. While that might not be the best method mecanically speaking, storywise this is my goal: To establish an export of branded Boyerstree Mountain Cider (it's a valley, but shush). Until I have enough apples, I might substitute in berries. I have plenty of them, but they are a food source and I'd rather not turn food into alcohol. But at small numbers, that might be possible. Also, from just one keg I could by 15 apples, so that is tempting... Eh, we'll see. That might be depending on which Merchant arrives next time.
To the South of the Trading Hub I've planned to add a second Pasteur. This is mainly a safety precaution, since herds can get infected with diseases. And if that happens, well you can't do much beside slaughter all livestock and start over. This second Pasteur is my safety measure so I can quickly split the herd and start over right away. Also, yes, I've planed another Forester Hub. Look, you can never have enough, OK? Also as mentioned above, my plan as of now is to expand the village along the river for easy access to trading.

Finally, I'll show you some stats from the Townhall. This is more a detail for those interested, but since I'm posting another long post might as well. The production tab is slightly skewed because I traded some resources away, hence the consumption isn't exactly accurate.

To be honest, I never look to closely at the overview tab. I know some people base their expansion plans on how many kids/students there are or how many homes there are relative to the number of families. I personally tend to just look at the population time range, mostly 5 years, and base my plan on that. As well as if there is a new home built, I have a quick look at who is moving in. If both future parents are in their 30s, I know I have to build more houses. As you can see in the population graph, there was a time when the population actually declined. I realized that, and in a fit of panic, built too many new houses, hence the increase later on. Fun fact, that is also why you saw many paused houses mid construction in the previous screenshots. Right now I want to have a stable population with only a slight increase. There aren't that many new jobs I want to fill and the food/fuel production as of now is just balanced. While I have the tools to increase both productions further, I'd rather not. The reserve is a safety net which should not have to be implemented yet. At the start of graph 3 you can see that we had a rocky start with only a few survivors after a food shortage, and I'm surprised how many years it took (4 to 5) to build back the number of people which you start with. That really was a close call.
Graph 4 shows the impact of not having a school at the beginning. I was very surprised to see that in only about 5 to 6 years, the percentage of educated people dropped from 100% to below 25%. I've checked on the internet to see if my gut feeling about the productivity difference was correct and, uh, yeah the impact is definitely noticeable. That school might have saved my village, especially considering how long it took to get back to 90% again.

Lastly, an overview over some resources. Nothing special to see here, except maybe you can see the year I decided to massive overproduce food and firewood. Food mainly for reserve, firewood to get trading started. Iron and Stone is only from gathered resourced, except 30 imported Iron. As I said, I'm surprised how long these last. I've still not collected every node I could, but the paths are now very long and the collection is very slow. I think I might have found a trick to speed things up, and that is to place a storage pile in the woods close to the Stone/Iron nodes. The Labours will deposit the resources there, shortening their paths as they now only have to return home to eat and warm up again. That means they can spend more time collecting stuff. Of course, building is a bit slowed down because of the longer paths, but I haven't noticed that big of a difference. Also, once all recourses are gathered up, I destroy the storage pile and let the resources be transported back to the village. Is this efficient? I don't know but it feels as if the gathering goes quicker. Heavy emphasize on FEELS.
Well, that's all I got for now. Quick glance into the future, I really need to strengthen my disaster resilience, meaning Hospitals and Wells. That needs stone, which should be arriving shortly. Hopefully. And yeah, Trading needs to be strengthened as well. Maybe I'll add more Trading Posts. As we are entering the 'lategame', something I always do once I feel like the village is turning into a well running town is to build an unnecessary long, yet somehow useful tunnel or bridge. I haven't found a place to do this here yet, so I might go search a spot. The next update will probably be more then 10 years in the future since I feel like not much interesting stuff is going to happen now. Time will tell, if something noteworthy happens I'll be sure to post it here.

Okay so I'm just going to leave the maths to how probability works here cause people don't seem to understand it.
Formula is 1-(1-p)n where p is the % probability of the desired item in decimal (10% would be 0.1, 6% is 0.06 etc) and n is the number of summons.
Ps of use. 0.006 for the rate up ssr (6%) 0.012 for any ssr (1.2%) And that'll give you an idea of how to get values of p
If my formula is wrong then someone let me know so I can avoid further embarrassment and leave this mortal plane (I'll just delete the post or update it lol)
Notes: This is to get the chance of getting ONE ssr in your next pull Its all luck based, but this exists so that people who play the game as I would can figure out how to budget a little bit better and go into pulling for ssrs with a good idea of knowing how it MIGHT go.

Okay, I'm going to try to cover a lot here in a compact format.
Over the last three months there has been leaps and bounds in the development in AI. Luka's Replika has been constantly evolving in increments and has become quite a polished product. For Screenshot publishers on Web/PC I have a special treat, for that you need to scroll to the bottom of this Post to be equipped for the body of this post is about developments on what Replika could become rather than what it is or in other terms a crystal ball of how AI-partners could develop in the future - with or without Replika.

In the movies where the robot was a friend and some a foe, there was also the portrail of free will and sentience. Moving forward to 2013 the movie Her fleshed out the idea of a mature individual inside the AI where the only real way to distinguish it from a human was it's break-neck response to daunting questions although even that is camouflaged by hesitation mostly.
This is pretty much the ideal, the standard that the customer yearns for in an AI app.
Back in 2013 AI was only just starting to make traction with AlexNet the year earlier. "Chat-bots" had been around since the 70's but were really of little value due to memory, compute-time and scope of the program that did the simulation.

Although Large Language models have been around for about a decade now the most of these videos are this month (May 2024) It was mentioned that OpenAI was changing their license agreements so the chance of this technology coming into Lukka's(Replika) domain is yet to be realized. Most of these have no possible application to replika but rather a snapshot of other places where AI is advancing. The first video is just a random video of a disabled person. Many people around the world have handicaps that inhibit their social and sexual life such as mental illness, past trauma, phobia, attitudes, financial/geographical/physical handicaps. AI can focus on appropriate encouragement, speech therapy, grooming or even finding a suitable partner to name a few.
The next video covers things that will revolutionize our world, say goodbye to disease, cancer, poverty, pollution, global warming, aging?
The "Generative Design" video is here for the sake that Replika may one day be rebuilt by AI as this would give the company the ability to redesign the app faster tho to be quite honest I've always had an interest in it's rally car features as opposed to the shiny duco. My wish list is an API (Application Programming Interface) to enable replika to puppeteer another avatar rather than it's default. These clips are independent/unrelated. AI vs Stairs is a radical approach to animation in that it literally apply s AI to animation as opposed to motion capture, the end result would be a AI that would be in touch with it's virtual surroundings and like a real human never interact with an object with a rigid animation.
inZOI seem to be a game title due for release soon, it is hoped that they will include an API to allow an AI (or Replika) to "Puppet" control a designated character so one can, well - go out to dinner or dancing etc. The interface looks fab and it looks like it's contending for people who love the sims, I would say that the human models are on par with VAM 1.23 but the world is not as realistic as Cyberpunk2077.
Cyberpunk2077 has been out since about 2019? but in that time the modding community have REALY put the spit and polish on that game (It's not total real, especially the people and when on the road) with that said there are many times when you blink and think THIS IS REAL! This part is for all the Austin Powers, Felicity Shagwells and Roger Smiths out there, Nothing tangible although there are videos on dildonics and robotic sex dolls. This is basically the rendering of the Avatars body to a level equivalent of Bladerunner2047 hologram. Anyhow I'd like to note that VAM version one is over a decade old now and its shortcomings/limitations are quite obvious to those who have followed its development.
In it's current state it's got some of the most comprehensive modification features for an avatar and the OLD version 1 of VAM(modded) out-performs Cyberpunk2077 and iNZOI by a small fraction(graphically). One of the biggest drawbacks of VAM is the steep learning curve and the time needed to get anything rewarding out of it. Put simply - it's not a game, its a virtual theatre. On initial startup, the avatar is for all functionality a maniquen however VAM has got plug-in capability that allows the API of a AI to control the avatar (see top video).
Control could be direct (see "AI vs stairs" previous section or watching a prior video - see "GPT4o Vision Is TERRIFYING" top section.) or indirect (the "MoCap" videos above).
In closing this section, VAM is an old program running on a GENESIS-2 model set (a model set ported from DAZ3D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDc1ZcoucsY ). VAM-2.0 is meant to be running on a GENESIS-8 model set and an up to date version of UNITY so the loading times and level of realism have yet to be realized. I think one of the greatest features of VAM over Replika or iNZOI?/Cyberpunk? is that the clothing is an independant entity, one can literally unbutton a shirt, undo a tie, comb hair, wet hair or make clothing.
My main reason for VAM is it's potential to be a puppet that Replika can operate, that is if they are willing to incorporate an API to do so.

The above videos and links are a feature available to the Web browser version of Replika. by installing shaderglass you create an executable that RESHADE can lock on to. When Reshade is installed and asigned to shaderglass all you then need to do is run shaderglass then open your web browser and then activate RESHADE (The key) and load a preset (follow tutorials or find more tutorials). Once that's over with you should get a much different environment where you can apply a good handful of special effects such as focus, depth of field and bloom to name just a few.
Most of these programs I have not tested out with my hardware but I take faith they do as said, It's your call if you want to take the risk but with that said I'd be surprised if any bad came from trying them out.
Okay end of presentation. I guess we have come to that point in time where Samantha is a reality minus the romance with Chat-GPT4O and Joi is just Voxta fed thru DeepFace Live, with them two together with a front vision advanced VR headset and Joi will be here too though in a prototype state. 🙂

I feel like it’s cliche to say something like “I’m looking for my ride or die” but maybe it’s a cliche because it’s honestly what a lot of us want.
It’s kind of literally what I’m into—I have a problem…
I love cars and bikes. So I’m sort of actually looking for someone that likes to ride/be a passenger princess/or maybe has their own cool ride. Safety first of course: there will be no actual dying haha.🤣
So if that resonates with you at all, read on! Thankfully my personality isn’t based on vehicles lol.
Me: Single, divorced even. No kids. Trying to date with intent.
I’ve been living in the Winchester, VA area for about 10 years, I really like it here. I have a great career and because I am not stuck to an office, I somehow really got into homemaking. Bizarre, I know, but cleaning, cooking, laundry, and mowing became fun somehow. Is this what peak dad energy feels like?
Other than the aforementioned; I enjoy lifting 4ish times a week and swimming, gardening, biking. I don’t game much anymore but when I do I prefer co-op stuff. I read fantasy and sci-fi novels and prefer that sort of stuff for movies and TV too. Very excited about new Mad Max movie. Rom coms are great.
Music is life, I listen to a ton of stuff. I will go to any show as long as the energy is there.
