2024.05.18 21:31 Illustrious_Fan9974 Balance changelogs that i wish to be applied

[---Buffs---]
HANK!
  1. Charging time : 3s-2.5s
  2. Added tank trait
  3. Its GONNA Blow (Sp ) : 10%-15% efficiency
  4. Hp value 10800-11600
( Despite this SHRIMP got huge BUFFS yet still staying on the bottom of the tiers ,is really unideal For that being. This should make him put more pressure and be a little defensive on close range scenario's . Also his sp where he gets his speed buff should be increased as it is only a 10% increaseal )
BARLEY
  1. HP value: 4800-5000
  2. Reload speed increased by 5%
( I tried not to give everyone a DMG change since DMG inflation is continuously rising over time.... Soo tried some alternative options tbh. )
TARA
  1. Both of her spawnables hp from SP increased by 800 ---( 2400-3200)---( 3000-3800)---
( Nobody's Talkin about how she fell off in the last few months.
BTY tried a different buff for her. What I've seen is what her spawnables hp from both of her SP is still the same even aftrr the universal stat buff. No wondy why her spawnables are soo fragile RN. )
JANET
  1. Attk range: 8.33-9 blocks/tiles
( Hot take but the only thing that i suffer when playing janet is how low her range is.... As a marksman, she just..... Doesn't seem too have enough range, AKA underwhelming ..... Havin that low of attk distance also makes her more fragile, TBH i think this single buff is enough to give her a substantial improvement. )
DARRL
1.Steel hoops SP : Effect duration 2s-3s
  1. Projectile amount : 5-4 DMG Distribution ==> 480--600 per projectile
  2. Rolling reload: now also grants CC immunity for 1s
( Darrls viability is slowly descending due to better picks and HCS ( OFC ) but instead giving a basic Hp Buff, i thought what about buffing his steel hoops, as now he can be more aggro with his playstyle as he will be alot tankier . Also with the second change, he can do more consistent chip DMG even at max/mid range)
DOUG
  1. Base healing: 1200-1600
  2. Teammates after reviving by his super will get 25% Shield for 3s
ASH
  1. FULL Rage gained from receiving DMG : ==>125%- 100% of his base hp
  2. Rage bar now decays 15% slower
( He is also powercrept due to not having a HC as tanks get the most benefit from it and get the most sufferings without it...BUT, recently i am seeing that, as more characters are getting HCs, tanks HCs are also getting powercrept. Those HCS are still Strong tho ...... But i dont think a single HC will make him alot better. This change should let him be more AGGRO tbh )
[--MISCELLANEOUS BUFFS--]
HIEST SAFE: Base HP increased by 25% Upto ==>(80000-100000 hp)
 2. Now has a Damage cap of 5000 per second
( Do i need to say somtin?.... HIEST recently has been INSANELY powercrept due to more high DMG dealing characters as well as balance changelogs, this sure is a necessary change RN)
[---DeBuffs---]
ANGELO
  1. movement speed reduced to fast when charging attks ( from very fast)
  2. SCR : 2-2.5 shots
  3. Main attk DMG : 4400-4000
( Absolute insane marksman RN... The HIGH DMG combined with his insane speed is ridiculous )
MELODIE
  1. Dash range reduced by 25%
  2. Base SCR : 4-5
  3. SCR from notes cut in HALF.
Misc: 1. After hitting a main shot, notes will no longer Dmg target's on the middle of the attacker ( Nerf )
( INSANELY high mobility and Very fast SCR... Considering how easy to hit shots TBH.... Also nobody's giving a Fuck about it... But for some reason, when applying her basic attk, the notes appear literally from her a-- inside..... , Dealing 2760 per attks... Even if all 3 of your notes are charged, u still do insane Dmg with that goffy ahh gimmick. [ 920 from basic attks+ 1840 from the notes ] this substantially increases her Burst DMG value... also once she gets her super... its pretty easy to cycle it with her notes as the notes charge rate is the same as the base SCR, aka 4 hits......Allowing her to do absurd teamwipes . Also the inability to charge notes from special targets will make her an insane Victim of spawners like Nita and Jessie )
PIPER
  1. DMG value: ==>3400-3200
  2. Autoaimer (gadget) : knockback removed, and increased slowness by 300% ( 0.5-2.0s slow ) and DMG increased to 800 from 160
( Having two jail free cards as a marksman are already insane, soo one of them should be tuned down, this gadget change will let her intruder's aproch slower but will not cancel their attks . Mainly the intention is , there should be a way to counter her Greatly in close scenarios.
And talk about her DMG, IMO way overtuned, way too much rewarding when shot hits , needs a balance between like what happened to Nani. )
SANDY
  1. HCR : 60%-40% ( 1.66-2.5 supers )
( His HC is incredibly strong AF, As if it wasn't enough..... )
JESSIE
  1. HCR : 60%-50% ( 1.66-2 Supers )
( got overtuned TBH, getting that much 10k hp turrets are just too overwhelming )
BELLE
--HYPERCHARGE TWEAKS--
  1. DMG boost: 25%-20%
  2. Speed boost: 26%-18%
( BELLEs high DMG boost from her HC makes her soo much deadly, so does the speed which also does insane job )
BYRON
  1. Base healing/DMG: 760-720
( Ok i am sorry, but IMO his Dmg/heal got way overtuned.... I already Kinda doubted that after this change he might need a small Nerf... But at the same time... I think he will still be really Good )
CHARLIE
  1. Spiders hp decay increased ( 10%-20%) Upto 10-5s spiders endurance .
  2. Victims can now heal and reload when they are in her cocoon with 30% less efficiency.
  3. Attk unload delay: 500ms-750ms
( IDK how to balance her super TBH. She has to be one of the most unserious character supers I've seen. A fast paced multiplayer game where u always have to be active, Havin a character who literally makes u being idle for a decent period of time.... Like even if the super was 3s, she still will be good... Bcuz of how her super works. her Allie's including herself, gets a huge advantage in many scenarios, because 5s is still enough to do the impossible in ongoin matches, atleast in competitive. Soo increasing the decay again will let her and her allies do less amount of crazy plays and other shit. But if u have any ideas, just let me know how to balance her super properly
but what can i see for now which needs a deserved change is that the spooders gadget Imo is still pretty braindead and strong at the same time.... 10s of endurance if doesn't get damaged helps her soo much for control , this especially helps with single non pierce attkers . This should do the damn job .
*BUFFS , DEBUFFS and CHANGES *
MANDY
--CHANGES--
  1. first star power is now baseline. it is replaced with THE new SP ( In my sight's)..... Which increases the upper and lower view point by 15% in focused mode...
( IMO her 1st SP is a must for her kit..... So i tried making her 1st sp baseline as I think, she is quiet unviable without it....)
CHESTER
--buffs--
  1. Main Attk DMG: ==( 1280-1400)
  2. SCR : 7-- 6 bells
  3. Poprocks super now have a throwing range similar to other spawners like Nita.
--REWORKS--
  1. 2 nd sp now reveals enemy's ammo bar and charge rate ( CHARGE RATE bar amplifies like lous freeze bar)
  2. 1 st SP now removes one cap bell attack and cycles between 2-3 bells
(Although OUR Mighty JESTER dosent have any good competitive purposes, he still feels awfull in Ladder as well.... bumping the DMG will make his long range shots more rewarding and reworking his 1st SP will reduce his Burst DMG buuuut, this SP will indeed increase his Consistency over DMG even more...)
KIT ( SIZABLE REWORK )
--Buffs--
  1. after leeching out from an allie, he will gain 33% of his super back
  2. Super duration when leeched on allies 10s-12s
--DEBUFFS--
  1. MAIN attk DMG : 2000-1600 ( revert)
--changes ( Reworks )--
1.Power hungry ( SP) : renamed to " Enter context ". When leeched to an allie, his allie will passively Charge its super similar to kit himself, but it will be 20% less effective.
  1. Cardboard box ( gadget) : renamed to "Enter context" will increase leached allies movement speed by 25% for 5s
  2. Overly attached ( SP) : renamed to " Enter context" . Will get 40% DMG when super is applied to opponents and targeted victim will receive 20% more DMG from all source's. The Dmg buff also Includes kits super DMG.
  3. Cheeseburger ( Gadget) : will now heal kit even if he isn't leeched to any allies. But it will be 30% of his max HP. And now has a maximum healing cap of 4000 . ( small Nerf) so no more Kit + Big tank combo.
  4. After leeching out of an Allie, he will gain 25% DMG reduction for 5s
( Tried to make him actually decently supportive rather assassin type. Hot take but kits whole system is just messed up. From gadgets being not supportive enough to SPs being very situational. One thing i also noticed that, supportive characters who has shorter range generally suffers more than the other supports. And not to mention, his super is not that consistent. After leeching out of an Allie, he literally losts his whole damn super and considering he has no other way to fastly charge his super except attacking others opponents, which he suffers again cuz he has short range , low burst and low Hp. So He has to passively charge it most of the time. Which takes a while where 20s to be exact. So i tried to make his super just a little more cyclable and tried making his whole gadget, SP reworked . To make him supportively better. Soo lastly, WDYT? Did i overdo it, or like overbuffed him? Let me know tho. For any improvements)
CHUCK
--Debuffs--
  1. Cant place polls in a HIEST safe ( in a radious of 4 tiles )
--Buffs--
  1. Reload speed 2000ms-1800ms
  2. projectile speed 1750-1860
--CHANGES ( small reworks) --
1 .autoaiming outside the polls will no longer place one , instead all poles now need to be placed manually.
  1. Reroute gadget will pick up the nearest pole instead of last placed pole. The gadget Will Still pick up poles even if the super is Charged
( Outside heist and few hotzone maps.... He recently started to become outshined by other controllers. His kit is really weird as it only works decently on specific modes and maps. Soo kinda tried to rework some of his base stats .
And this change to his super will let him do more good pole placements soo he can do more controlling attribution for his team.. although WDYT?.
SAM ( SIZABLE REWORK)
--Changes--
  1. 1st SP is now baseline. it is replaced with ( insert name ) which upon deploying his super, he will be immune to all CC for 1.5s
  2. 2nd SP is now reworked, after launching his super, after 10s, he will instantly charge his super. (Doesn't passively charge bty )
  3. 2nd gadget is now reworked as well to ( insert name ) . It is like sprouts one, when knuckle Busters are on the ground , using this gadget will automatically home in to himself and will deal 1800 DMG
( He is completely dependent on his 1st SP ... IMO making it baseline is important, second of all... Both of his 2nd gadget and SP is Dogshit.... It really need some love... Soo tried this Rework to remove some of Sam's weaknesses. Also. Is the first SP rework good or just made it too strong ?, let me know)
OR, ( Quickfix)
  1. knuckle Busters pickup timing reduced by half .
  2. Hp Value: 10800-11200
FANG
--debuffs--
  1. SRR : 45hits
  2. Super DMG: 2400-2200
--buffs--
  1. Main attk DMG : 2720-2800
  2. Super dash speed: 4000-4500
HYPERCHARGE Tweaks
  1. HCR : 20%-30% -- ( 5-3.33 supers)
(fresh kicks SP has been always a must pick for his kit, and now because of his buffed SCR , this SP just straight makes him to be able to destroy low-mid ladder player matchmakings . Although he is counterable in competitive matches. But knowing the fact that 70% of the whole player base are casuals, i think he actually needs a super Debuff, cuz NOBODY likes to get teamwiped in a matter of seconds. He was already pretty solid IF U PLAYED HIM well enough which most of the people weren't. After his SRR buff, he already became STUPIDITY braindead as it is pretty EZ TO cycle supers.
Now i just wanna make him skill based as how he was before sep 2023. The main thing that i noticed was his SRR change is what made him less skill
Tried to revert it. But also giving him some buffs to balance thing's out.
GUS ( Rework to supportive gimmicks )
--Buffs--
  1. spirit heal: 1600-2000
--CHANGES--
  1. Hitting a Spirit Charged attk on a wall will now spawn a Ghost as well
  2. Kooky popper( gadget) : added knockback but DMG is cut in 1/4th . 2000-500
  3. 2nd gadget: removed HP sacrificial ( 5%-0% ) And next attk upon Activation will spawn 2 spirits
( Really hoping this will make him shine again, tried to make him supportively viable by making the spirits actually useful for healing his Allie's. Keep in mind that the sprits healing buff is an indirect buff to his 1st SP as well. Allowing his allie to heal upto 4000 which is pretty substantial. And adding some kind of CC to him soo he can atleast retreat with THIS but added additional nerf to it for a compensation. )
LOU
DEBUFFS:
  1. Hypothermia SP : Max DMG reduction. 50%-35%
BUFFS:
  1. Hp value: 6400-7000
  2. SCR : 8-7 shots ( without SCR gear )
HYPERCHARGE tweaks (DEBUFF)
  1. Hypercharged super insta freeze -70% of the freeze bar will be filled
( Same is COLGATE, not any big problems on his main kit, except his HYPERCHARGE.... Buuut supercell really likes to kill a character whos main issue isn't his base kit. also his hypothermia SP is kinda getting slept on as how secretly STRONG AF it is. You can still almost insta freeze any enemy with HCed super combined with Cyro Shyrup )

2024.05.18 16:28 c0untd4wn Assassin Skill Cap Tier List

Assassin Skill Cap Tier List
https://preview.redd.it/x2vd1anpt51d1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e82c77d0c3a086ee64fc4357c4155201aac764f
DO NOTE THAT THE SKILL FLOOR TIER LIST IS WILDLY DIFFERENT FROM THIS. SKILL FLOOR WILL MAKE BRAWLERS LIKE FANG LOW, AND BRAWLERS LIKE LILY TO BE HIGH.
Pipers' in here purely as a joke. Don't be showdown main pls.
Edgar has 2 combos you need to know: Hypercharge Super 1stGadget, and Super tap right side of screen 3.0x10^8 times/s.
Crow isn't used much as an assassin for most of the game, but when he is used as one with his supehypercharge, you don't have to make specific timings or anything.
Darryl has 1 combo: Super Gadget Spam right side of screen roll out when you're going to die. He's slightly higher skill than Edgar due to his roll instead of a full invulnerable jump.
Bonnie is a marksman/assassin combo, she can jump in a similar fashion to Edgar. Not much aiming/skill needed, more of a know who to jump into situation, and when to be in marksman and when to be in assassin. Not a huge learning curve.
Lily is a full on assassin, there is some skill in terms of her shadow realm, but it is again not a huge learning curve. Her actual assassin abilities are just super tap, you just have to learn when you can deal up to 6360 damage.
Mico's skill cap is highly overrated. He isn't like Mortis where you need to learn to chain his supers and everything, you just jump onto an enemy 4 times, and use your first gadget to finish them off. Or 2nd gadget into an enemy and jump 4 times. Mico will be braindead with his second star power in heist, the thing is that most Mico randoms don't know what Mico's super does and refuses to use it, and hence why Mico seems so difficult to the average bs player.
Buzz's skill cap isn't high, including with the hypercharge. In theory it seems high skill but in reality, you're only using it to get the hook onto the enemy, which isn't difficult as you have more than enough time to land at least 1 super on the enemy with hypercharge. Without hypercharge, the only skill left is to land that shot, and ensure that you go through walls against straight shot shooters to ensure you don't get 7-spiked by a spike or 6 bulleted by a colt.
Kit has no real skill with his assassin abilities alone, and many will roast me for being bad to put him in average. There's skill in determining when to use his super and gadget for the assassin, how to kill tanks with kit, and how to escape. Arguments can be made for him to be lower, but with his potential dynamic playstyle in a game, and his self-stun unlike other assassins who can go into 3 enemies more safely, there is some nuance to Kit's kit (im so punny)
Fang's kit is highly underrated -- there is skill in cycling his supers without his first star power, combos with his gadget, ASA, AGA, ASAGA, and LSAGAS (L -> long shot, A attack, G Gadget, S Super), where all following combos reduce his attack cooldown. Doesn't take a R35 fang to know that dashing into 3 enemies isnt' always a good idea but it takes a good fang to be able to get consistent value in game.
Janet isn't seen as an assassin until she gets her super. With her super charge buff, she can officially cycle supers with understanding of her bomb patterns, landing spot, cycling of supers. A S (land 3 bombs) A x2 gets Janet her super, hence making her an A tier assassin in that sense. But the combo isn't easy to pull off.
Nani is a sniper, but she is sometimes used as a pseudo-assassin with her Warp Blast Gadget. Good aim after teleporting and reaction timing is important with Nani, as teleporting near an enemy won't even guarantee good damage as there is a learning curve on hitting that close range shot (ironically). The rest of Nani's kit is also difficult, hence putting her at high. (She will be placed impossible in the sniper tier list though).
Stu's skill level is also highly overrated but not as much as Mico's. You do need 0 ping with Stu, and good dodging but that isn't exclusive to Stu. His super is autoaimable and a Stu with Skill Cap can dodge very well.
Leon's super is tough to charge, and Leon's super takes skill in certain modes like Brawl Ball or Hot Zone to get full use of. His Invisiheal also takes skill for him to use when he is trying to escape, and his gadget takes game knowledge. Overall, Leon isn't the hardest to play whilst you are going aggro, but he takes alot of game knowledge when he's not actively assassinating someone.
Melodie is seen as a braindead brawler purely due to her insane strength rn. After all, she is best used to dash forward to somebody's left at around 2 tiles away, and dash backward to somebody's right at around 2 tiles away, and it takes skill to understand the dashing patterns. Getting her first super is also considerably difficult, and getting value and paramount dodges takes alot of game knowledge and timing, even to avoid major CCs like Otis or Cordelius.
Cordelius takes purely game knowledge. His kit is the second easiest kit bar Edgar here, but the amount of game knowledge to know who to super, when to super, what to do during super, what kit to draft, and where to position yourself during your super to make your super a 7 second invis + invulnerability + heal takes alot of skill. Sniping your super to an unsuspecting enemy to get away from a sticky situation with a tank up your ass is also a great way to showcase your skill cap.
Gray Assassin is my second most hated brawler in the game, first being Gray Jacky transporter. But with Gene pulls, a small projectile width and great super combos, Gray is the assassin that requires the most precision in game in terms of where you are attacking. A Buster and a Pam can literally be making out, and you can shoot through their tiny little toes and hit the colt behind them, killing him. Great plays that you can potentially make with Gray puts him at Impossible. Without such knowledge, Gray is easily the worst brawler in the game. Gray is probably the worst brawler at Rank 5 matchmaking.
The dodges, the dodges, the dodges. The spread out attack. The immune shield, the hypercharge (ignoring the bug now) and the speed. Max takes second easily due to her versatility, and her being so weak without proper dodging from the player. Max is the strongest brawler in the game easily, beating every single brawler in the game with a perfect gameplay.
Mortis, we all knew that he was the top. Super chaining, positioning, abusing walls to reduce ATK CD, the heals, utilisation of long dash to escape. There is an argument to place mortis behind Max or behind Gray, but given the new brawler releases and how much more he gets countered each update, he deserves number 1 in my eyes. Still love Max more.

Final Update - 10th May 2024

AITAH for passing out during a family gathering meant to introduce our new baby?

So, recently I(27F) had a beautiful baby girl with my husband(29M). She's my pride and joy, I love her more than I love myself. But, taking care of her has taken its toll on me. My husband promised the work would be 50/50 when we agreed we wanted children, but I don't feel that's being reflected by his actions this past month.
It's gotten to the point where I can't even ask him to wash her up without him saying something along the lines of, "My paternity leave is short, I want to make the most of it by relaxing a bit. I'll help you out later." And I get it. His paternity leave is only 6 weeks while mine is 16 weeks, but my nether regions hurt like a bitch for a better part of two weeks after the birth and all he could do for me was occasionally burp her.
Now, my baby girl has gotten to a phase where she doesn't want to sleep. She'll sleep for an hour, but then she's up and back to crying and I have to get up and try to soothe her. It's been happening for a week now and I've gotten so little sleep that I'm nodding off while eating or doing tge laundry and stuff. Saturday was the month anniversary of my daughter's birth, so I decided to gather both sides of the family to meet her. (They hadn't met her prior because a)I wanted to rest as much as I could and b)I heard somewhere that you shouldn't be taking babies out and about when they're fresh out the womb cause they're more prone to illness then).
So, we had this gathering at my mother's house and all was well. Everyone was cooing over our baby, there was food, people were catching up or meeting for the 1st time. It was nice. But, I had gotten about 3 hours(generous estimate) of sleep in total the past week and I was starting to feel the effects of it. I was feeling lightheaded and clammy, but I didn't wanna make a scene so I tried to go to a bedroom to lie down. I didn't take 10 steps before my vision completely blacked out.
I wasn't down for long, but I had fallen over which drew some attention. I explained to everyone who was concerned that I was fine and that I was just not getting enough sleep and I could see my husband visibly frown at that. They gave me some of the dessert my aunt made to get my sugar up and the party continued. I felt embarrassed about the whole thing, especially since everyone was still looking over me til we left, but it's whatever
What bothered me is my husband's reaction. When we got home, he started going off on me about how I "made him look bad" and like "he wasn't taking care of me". I was confused on how tf me passing out made HIM look bad, but he refused to explain himself and had a pity party for himself in the kitchen.
I was still feeling bad, so I decided to leave him alone and just to go sleep, but he seems to have taken that as a sign that I don't care about his feelings. He's in my ear this morning about how I just ignored him to go sleep last night and how I didn't even put the baby to sleep before leaving. Is he right? AITAH here?

Update: So I've tried talking with him, but he's been ignoring me and the baby the last three hours. I'd usually wait longer, but I'm just too tired to deal with this right now. You guys were right, I do need help with this, and he's made it very clear he's not ready to help me yet, so I'm just going to go to my mom's place. I'm currently packing. I'm so done.

NTA and I can’t call your husband the names I want to because my comment will be deleted.
Paternity leave isn’t a time to relax, it’s a time you’re helping raise the baby and spending time together as a family. CLEARLY he is not doing either of these things as A. You’d be better rested and B. He’d have noticed you’re exhausted.
You passing out made him look bad because it was clear to everyone that you’re being left to raising your baby alone. It’s clearly not a partnership and the AH you’re married to is turning it onto you to shift responsibility and blame.
You need to seriously reconsider the relationships future and bring this up with him as it all comes down to him and his behaviour. If he gets his shit together, then things will be much better. But if he doesn’t, you and your daughter deserve so much better.

awaythrowers97
He doesn't know what "paternity leave" is and doesn't really want to take care of his family. Sadly, you can't seem to shake that loser.

ArticleOld598
This deadbeat of a father and husband is using his 6 weeks to laze around instead of using it taking care of his wife & child.
OP you said you love your baby more than yourself, would you want to let her grow up and think that it's normal for wives to push themselves while they're sleepless and in pain until they faint & husbands to berate them instead of worrying & taking care of them?
Tell your parents that your husband doesn't help you at all & blamed you for "making him look bad". You know what else makes him look bad? Being a deadbeat father and partner.

Update - 1 day later

Hi all, your comments were really helpful, so thank you!
Yesterday, before I could Uber to my mom's house, my sister offered to help me, so I'm staying with her instead. She's taking PTA to help me out with my girl, which I'm very grateful for. She also gave me sleep medicine that knocked me out for hours (I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not, but I slept long and well so I don't care.)
I woke up a few hours ago to tons, and I mean TONS, of messages from my husband. Like, the little app icon had 99+ on it. Here are some of the things he said(copy pasted):

I would screenshot, but it says this community doesnt allow attachments, so i can't. And I know it's a bit weird to tell yall what he's been texting me, but I'm mad right now and this feels therapeutic lol. I already sent the screenshots to his mom though!
As for my baby, I have an appointment to a paediatrician for Wednesday, but for now she's on formula since my breast milk quality isn't the best for understandable reasons. My sister said she wasn't as fussy as I described, so I really think the problem is with my milk. That or my sister wanted to make me feel better for sleeping, who knows. I'll wait for the doctor's opinion.
I'm not feeling 100% but I feel a whole lot more better than before. Thank you to everyone who showed concern! I think this will be the last update since I wanna not think too much about my husband rn.

I am sooo glad you left and got some help and rest. You definitely need and deserve it.
I still can't get over your husband's mental gymnastics here. He hasn't been a parent, hasn't helped you at all, and hasn't really spent any time caring for his daughter and only cares about what other people (besides you) think, but "misses his baby girl" and wants you to come back "so we can go back to being happy"?! Sounds like the only person who was happy was him--he got a 6 week vacation and didn't have to lift a finger. Let me guess-you were doing all the cooking and cleaning on top of caring for the baby? From what he is texting you, he thinks he did nothing wrong. He is being deliberately obtuse.
To add insult to injury he calls you a bitch and threatens you with the cops. Lovely. He is a real peach.
I really want to know what his mom has to say. Does she know he was mad at you for passing out?

Efficient-Cupcake247
Because it isn't about love. It is about control and image. Please keep strong. You have done a fabulous job doing what you need to for you and baby. Best wishes

To be clear, kidnapping is not involved. Until a custody agreement is submitted to the court, either married parent is legally permitted to take their child for any reason.

Damn, this dude is crazy. Hopefully next update it’ll be ex-husband

**New Updates*\*

AITAH for passing out during a family gathering meant to introduce our new baby? LAST UPDATE - 4 days later

For all of you who wanted to know what his mother's reaction was, she yelled at him and he made that my problem. The things he's messaged me are vile. And even though MIL was mad at him and KNOWS what he's been saying to me, she still insisted that I go visit him face to face so we can work things out.
I don't really blame her. He's her son, of course she'd still want to help him, but still....With all the ways he's been threatening me and cussing me out, I really didnt want to see him, but I decided to go. Mostly because I needed the stuff that I left at our house.
I went with my sister for safety, obviously. We got there and he played with our baby, he offered to feed her (she wasn't hungry), just acting completely different from the man texting me about how much of a "heartless bitch" I am. I didn't really feel comfortable having him near me or the baby with how violent his texts were, but she's still his baby. I don't think the courts would favour him after I show his texts, but I thought I should rather be safe and allow him some form of contact before going to court. This was a mistake.
At the end of the visit, I decided I should go pack my stuff, since that was one of the only reason I agreed to come. But, I didn't feel comfortable not being there while he had my baby. Yeah, my sister was there and I trust her, but I'd rather watch her with my own eyes. So, my sister went upstairs to pack for me. As soon as she was gone, he started talking about "See? I'm good now I can take care of her." And other stuff but that wasn't the problem. Even if he became super dad, I wouldn't be able to see him the same. Not after all those messages he sent me.
I told him that and he got pissed at me. I was getting worried since my daughter was still in his arms, so I tried to deescalate his feelings. It didn't work and he started yelling at me for "being heartless" and "stubborn" and whatnot. I wasn't really focused on what he was saying, I was focused on my baby. I tried to reach out for her and he shoved me hard enough to fall back. My sister came down and tried to help, but he shoved her away too and ran to the guest room and locked himself and MY BABY in there. He refused to come out unless my sister left and i stayed behind. I can't tell y'all how scary it is to not know what's happening to your child.
It took officers almost 30 minutes to get him out, which pissed me off. Like I know they were probably trying to assess the danger or whatever but I just wanted my baby. In that 30 minute window he could've shaken her or threw her out the window or something and they were there asking him to come out like he was a child and not breaking down the door. She was fine, though, so I can't be too mad.
They didn't arrest him since "no harm was done" even though my sister and I have bruises to prove otherwise, but they held him outside while I packed my stuff. It actually bothers me that they didn't at least detain him, but there's not much I can do about it now. I don't think I'm going to go near him again. Not with my baby. I'm thinking of going to apply for that emergency custody thing yall were talking about.
This happened on Wednesday and I'm still shaken. It's really depressing, for a lack of better word, seeing how much he's changed. I really loved him and I felt he loved me too. How he's acting is crushing me. I feel deflated. My baby girl and my sister are really the only things keeping me going right now.
I'm sorry for the wall of text, it's just that texting this all out helps me feel better. But, I don't think I want to continue updating. Just know that we're splitting up. Thank you all for your support!!
Extra: after visiting the doctor, I've decided to just skip the hassle and formula feed. She seems happier with formula anyways.

OMG document everything. Take pictures of the bruises. Go see a doctor and tell the doctor you just need things documented to protect yourself and your baby. File a police report for assault and both you and your sister write detailed statements of everything that happened. Then apply for emergency custody.

georgiajl38
Go to the police station and file a report for assault. Screw those cops. They didn't have to take him but the assault report should have definitely been filed. Get in front of a magistrate asap!!!

edit: i dont know if anyone will ever look at this again but I got my grade back and got a 150/150 😌 thank you all for your kind words and feedback i haven’t been this proud of something i’ve written in a long time!!!
Hi SocietyOfTheSnow , I hope you're all having a great night. I've been lurking on this subreddit for a few months while I was working on this, so I figured it was only fair for me to share it here now that it's done (I think?). I am an undergraduate student at an university in the U.S., and I wrote this for my media ethics class. If you don't wanna read it, that's cool! If you do read it, thank you, and if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know (but be nice about it pls! I worked hard and am sensitive!)!! <3 also formatting is weird sorry I don't feel like fixing it lmfao, films are in italics, books are in bold
On October 12, 1972, a chartered Fairchild FH-227D departed from Montevideo, Uruguay en route to Santiago, Chile. The plane carried forty passengers and five crew members, including the nineteen members of the “Old Christians” rugby team, the team physician and his wife, as well as some supporters, family members, and friends of the team. Although scheduled to land the same day, the pilot decided to make a one-night stopover in Mendoza, Argentina due to bad weather. The plane departed again on October 13, 1972, at 2:18 pm. Because they couldn't go directly over the towering peaks of the Andes Mountains, the plane was supposed to take a 370-mile route south to Malargüe, west through the Planchon Pass to Curico, and north to Santiago. This should’ve taken an hour and a half. Clouds were obscuring the mountains, so the pilots were likely using radio navigation to get through the pass. Here, one of the pilots made a deadly error, incorrectly piloting the plane north and beginning the descent. Due to the heavy cloud cover, they didn’t realize their mistake until it was too late. The plane slammed into a mountain, losing both of the wings and the tail, causing seven passengers to fall from the open fuselage, all of whom were later found deceased. The crash is briefly described in an excerpt from a 2016 National Geographic interview with survivor Dr. Roberto Canessa. It reads:
“It was a very abrupt moment. We had rented an air force plane to go from Uruguay to Chile. We were trying to cross the Andes when the pilot said, “Fasten your seatbelts, we are going to enter some turbulence.” Rugby players like to fool around and play macho. So we were throwing around rugby balls and singing a song, “Conga, conga, conga: the plane is dancing conga.” The next thing, someone looked out the window and said, “Aren’t we flying too close to the mountains?!” The pilot had made a huge mistake: He’d turned north and begun the descent to Santiago while the aircraft was still in the high Andes. He began to climb until the plane was nearly vertical and it began to stall and shake. Then we smashed into the side of the mountain. I was thrown forward with tremendous force and received a powerful blow to my head. I thought, “You’re dead.” I grabbed my seat and recited a Hail Mary. Someone cried out, “Please God, help me, help me!” It was the worst nightmare you can imagine. Another boy was screaming, “I’m blind!” When he moved his head I could see his brain—and a piece of metal sticking out of his stomach.”
The plane's fuselage came to rest in the cirque of the Glacier of Tears, at an elevation of 11,710 ft. Including the aforementioned seven that fell out of the plane during the initial impact, twelve passengers died in the crash and five more died from various injuries and ailments over the next few days.
Inside the fuselage, the survivors had found a meager amount of chocolate bars, jam, almonds, and dried fruits, as well as several bottles of wine. They rationed what they had, but it lasted only a week, and so, left with no alternative, the survivors resorted to anthropophagy. Survivor Dr. Roberto Canessa writes of the situation in his book I Had To Survive: How A Plane Crash In The Andes Inspired My Calling To Save Lives, excerpt adapted for The Daily Mail:
“Our common goal was to survive — but what we lacked was food. We had long since run out of the meager pickings we’d found on the plane, and there was no vegetation or animal life to be found. After just a few days we were feeling the sensation of our own bodies consuming themselves just to remain alive. Before long we would become too weak to recover from starvation. We knew the answer, but it was too terrible to contemplate. The bodies of our friends and teammates, preserved outside in the snow and ice, contained vital, life-giving protein that could help us survive. But could we do it? For a long time we agonized…Maybe a miracle might occur just in time to avoid what seemed to us a hideous transgression. Never had the consequences of time seemed so gruesome. But true hunger is atrocious, instinctive, primordial, and God witnessed the groaning of my insides. In time, a rational and loving answer emerged to calm my fears and give me inner peace…Gradually, each of us came to our own decision in our own time. And once we had done so, it was irreversible. It was our final goodbye to innocence. We were never the same again.”
Aircrafts from Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay searched for the missing flight for 8 days, after which they decided to call off the search under the assumption that there were no survivors and resume looking when the snow starts to melt to recover the bodies. The survivors saw aircraft fly over the crash site on three separate occasions, but the rescuers were unable to spot the white fuselage against the snow. Intense snowstorms often kept them trapped inside the wreckage of the plane for twenty-four hours at a time. During these first few weeks, the survivors began making small excursions to explore the general vicinity of the airplane. However, they didn't have any clothing made for the cold weather, causing hypothermia, and also struggled against snow blindness, dehydration, malnourishment, altitude sickness, and the extreme nighttime cold, which made it impossible for them to travel a meaningful distance away from the fuselage. Despite this, by the last week in October, a group had been chosen to leave the crash site and try to reach help - Nando Parrado, Roberto Canessa, Adolfo “Fito” Strauch, and Numa Turcatti - and the survivors had begun to make preparations for the impending trek.
On October 29, a bit more than two weeks after the crash, tragedy once again befell the group when an avalanche struck the fuselage, burying it in snow and ice, and filling the cabin within just a few feet of the ceiling. This disaster killed eight and trapped the remaining survivors inside. Survivor Nando Parrado describes the aftermath in his book Miracle in the Andes: 72 Days on the Mountain and My Long Trek Home:
“The snow that invaded the fuselage was so deep that we couldn’t stand; we had barely enough headroom now to crawl about the plane on hands and knees. As soon as we had the stomach for it, we stacked the dead at the rear of the plane where the snow was deepest, which left only a small clearing near the cockpit for the living to sleep. We packed into that space - nineteen of us now, jammed into an area that might have comfortably accommodated four - with no choice but to squeeze together, our knees, feet, and elbows tangled together in a nightmare version of a scrum.”
After three days, six survivors worked together and managed to dig their way through the cockpit, squeeze past the dead pilots’ bodies, push through the window and the snow, and reach the surface, only to be met with a blizzard that kept them in the fuselage under the snow for another three days. Upon emerging from what could’ve easily become their tomb, the nineteen remaining survivors were filled with determination to survive this ordeal and once again began preparing to search for help.
The plan was to allow the expedition group that was selected before the avalanche to get more rations, the best sleeping spots, and excusal from chores to build up their strength. The survivors agreed that the expeditionaries would travel east. Since the mountain peaks were slightly less daunting in this direction, the group hoped that once they got over the mountains they could find a valley that would turn around and bring them into Chile. Antonio “Tintin” Vizintin also joined the expedition, however, Adolfo “Fito” Strauch became afflicted with a severe case of hemorrhoids and needed to stay behind. It was also decided by the expeditionaries that Numa Turcatti would stay behind as well due to an infection in his leg, which, due to his aversion to eating the human flesh that was necessary for their survival, his body was unable to fight off. On the morning of November 17th, the remaining group of three expeditionaries set off away from the crash site. After about an hour and a half of hiking, Roberto Canessa, who was in the front of the group, spotted the tail. In the tail, they found luggage with more clothes, some rum, a box of chocolates, three small meat patties, a moldy sandwich, some cigarettes, a small camera loaded with film, and the batteries needed to power the radio in the fuselage. With no turning point towards the west in sight, the expeditionaries decided it would be best to turn back towards the crash site with the stuff they had found. However, the batteries were too heavy to carry all the way back in the snow, so they left them and decided instead to grab the radio from the Fairchild and bring it to the tail. The group made it back to the crash site on November 21st, and a few days later, they went back to the tail with the radio to try and get it to work. Unfortunately, these efforts were in vain, as the electronic components were too damaged to repair.
The expeditionaries returned to the fuselage, and at this point, the survivors realized their only chance at survival was to head directly west and find help in Chile. During the first week of December, they began to prepare, cutting extra meat and storing it in the snow, as well as sewing a sleeping bag using quilted batts of insulation and a sewing kit taken from the tail. On December 12, Nando Parrado, Roberto Canessa, and Antonio “Tintin” Vizintin left the wreckage of the Fairchild behind and began their trek up the mountain to the west. On the third morning, the expeditionaries reached the peak. Expecting to find the green valleys of Chile just beyond the mountain, they were shocked as they were faced with a seemingly never-ending view of the snowy cordillera. Despite the seemingly impossible circumstances, Canessa and Parrado still believed they could make it to the Chilean countryside, but didn’t have enough food to sustain all three of the expeditionaries for a trek of that caliber. So, it was at this point that the group decided to send Vizintin back to the crash site, while Canessa and Parrado would continue to the west. Three days after Vizintin had turned back and six days after they began the hike, the pair found a river with running water, which they began to follow down the mountain, and the day after they found an empty soup can, a horseshoe, a pile of feces, trees, and they even saw some cows from a distance. On December 20, after setting up camp for the night, Canessa spotted a man on a horse on the opposite side of the river. The man yelled to them but was drowned out by the river, however, they made out one word: “tomorrow”. The next day, the expeditionaries awoke at dawn to find three men around a fire on the other side of the river. Since the roar of the river was so loud, one of the men threw a pencil and paper tied to stones across the river, and Parrado wrote a message. That message read:
“I come from an airplane that crashed in the mountains. I am Uruguayan. We have been walking for 10 days. I have a wounded friend up there. In the plane, there are still 14 injured people. We need to get out of here quickly and we don't know how to. We don't have any food. We are very weak. When are you going to come to get us? Please, we can't even walk. Where are we?”
The men across the river threw the expeditionaries some bread and made motions indicating they understood, and that the duo was to wait. Less than 12 hours later, the men had helped Canessa and Parrado to the huts they used when tending to the flocks in the high pastures, and the pair got to eat real food and sleep in beds. The police showed up the day after that, along with Sergio Catalan, the man they had originally spotted on horseback, who had ridden 10 hours each way to the nearest police outpost to get help. A heavy fog descended on Los Maitenes, the mountainous region of the Chilean province of Colchagua, and so Canessa and Parrado went on horseback down to Puente Negro, they hoped the helicopters would be able to take off for the rescue operation. After the fog had cleared a bit, the helicopter crews, along with Parrado, took off for the crash site. The two helicopters reached the crash site on the afternoon of December 22nd. Because of the steep terrain, the pilots were only permitted to touch down with a single skid, and due to the altitude and weight limits, this first rescue mission was only able to take half of the survivors. Four of the rescuers volunteered to stay behind with the remaining eight survivors for their last night on the mountain, and the second flight of helicopters arrived the following morning at daybreak. The last of the survivors were rescued on December 23, 1972, more than two and a half months after the crash.
Ethically adapting true events for cinematic or literary purposes, especially in cases where lives were lost, raises complex questions about representation, storytelling, and the responsibilities of creators to both the subjects of the events (alive and deceased) and their audience. The TARES test is a framework that media professionals use to help assess ethical communication and influence. TARES is an acronym that stands for Truthful, Authentic, Respectful, Equitable, and Socially Responsible. These five elements represent the ethical communication criteria that are used to evaluate the ethical impact of a message. I will be using the TARES test to analyze the films Alive (1993) and Society of the Snow (2023), both based on the Miracle of the Andes, intending to empirically determine which adaptation is more ethical.
Alive, directed by Frank Marshall (Arachnaphobia) and written by John Patrick Shanley (Moonstruck, Doubt), was released in 1993 by Paramount Pictures. The film features an all-white cast, including stars Ethan Hawke and Josh Hamilton and narrator John Malkovitch. The film is named after and based on the book of the same name by Piers Paul Read, a British novelist, historian, and biographer, which was published in 1974. In the dedication, the survivors write that they “decided this book should be written and the truth known because of the many rumors about what happened in the cordillera”. Grossing slightly less than $37 million domestically, the experience of watching the Hollywood-ified adaptation of Read’s award-winning book is most aptly described by Robert Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times film critic, in 1993. He writes:
“The problem is, no movie can really encompass the sheer enormity of the experience. As subtitles tick off ‘Day 50’ and ‘Day 70,’ the actors in the movie continue to look amazingly healthy (and well-fed). Although some despair, most remain hopeful. But what would it really be like to huddle in a wrecked aircraft for 10 weeks in freezing weather, eating human flesh? I cannot imagine, and frankly, this film doesn't much help me.”
Alive had a budget of $25 million and was shot on a glacier in British Columbia, and the cinematography by Peter James (27 Dresses, Meet the Parents) featuring this landscape is arguably the best part of the entire movie. With its poorly written dialogue and questionable acting choices, this film not only struggles to keep the viewer’s attention, but additionally doesn’t do much in the sense of helping the viewer understand what the passengers of Flight 571 went through.
Society of the Snow was directed by J. A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Impossible) and released in 2023 by Netflix. It features 40 actors of Argentine and Uruguayan nationality, many of whom made their debut in this movie, and had an estimated budget of $65 million. The film is named after and based on the book of the same name by Pablo Vierci, a Uruguayan journalist who grew up with many of the people who were on Flight 571 and is credited as one of the associate producers of the film. The book also includes reflections written by some of the survivors. In a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Director J. A. Bayona said that “at the heart of the book, there is this message that says that when everything has been taken from someone, you still have a chance of deciding what to do — why do you want to live? For whom do you want to die for?”. Bayonoa described the shoot as an exploration looking to answer these big questions, and it was with these questions in mind that they began doing interviews with all sixteen of the survivors, collecting over one hundred hours of recordings. Throughout the process of making the film, all the actors were in contact with not only the survivors, but also the families of the deceased, and the development and release of this film marks the first time all the survivors and families of the deceased have allowed their real names to be used. In an IndieWire exclusive, survivors Roberto Canessa and Gustavo Zerbino write of the film:
“We and others have been telling our story for half a century, but the filmmaker J.A. Bayona has captured it in ways that we find inspiring and fresh all over again…But more importantly, he has captured the spirit of what got us off of that mountain. Society of the Snow reflects our experience in how we refused to give in to the bleak nature of our plight.”
Society was shot mostly in Sierra Nevada, Spain, but additional scenes were filmed in Montevideo, Uruguay, and in different locations in the Andes, both in Chile and Argentina, including The Glacier of Tears. With breathtaking cinematography by Pedro Luque (Don’t Breathe, Antebellum), and a chilling score by Michael Giacchino (The Batman, Star Wars: Rogue One), J. A. Bayona’s Spanish-language disaster film should be known going forward as the principal film about the Miracle of the Andes.
The first element of the TARES test that will be assessed is Truthful. This element questions whether the claims, both verbal and visual, are truthful, and, if the film communicates only part of the truth, if any omissions are deceptive. However, even if some facts are omitted, a film would pass the test if it meets a genuine human need to provide truthful information. Additionally, filmmakers should be able to verify with viewers the truthfulness of claims, and they should provide information to their audiences that will allow them to verify the truthfulness of claims in messages aimed at the public. "Unlike Alive, which is based solely on the facts of the story, Society of the Snow offers a much more philosophical take on what happened…It's not just about reiterating the facts. It's about engaging philosophically and spiritually on a deeper level with the story and exploring the true meaning of what happened in those mountains", Society of the Snow director J. A. Bayona says of the books that inspired the films. Despite this, after reading not only the books each movie is based on but additionally books written by survivors, Society is overall a more accurate depiction of the ordeal that the survivors went through in the Andes. There are always going to be differences when a book gets adapted for film, however, the differences between Paul Piers Read’s “classic” work of survival literature and the lukewarmly received 1993 adaptation are astounding. David Ansen summarizes it perfectly in an article for Newsweek, where he writes:
“Piers Paul Read's acclaimed 1974 book… paid special attention to the social structure that evolved among the group: the emergence of a warrior class and the counterbalance of a civilian government that looked out for the welfare of the weak and wounded. Marshall downplays the fascinating sociological details-and the ambiguities of character-in favor of action, heroism and a vague religiosity that's sprinkled over the story like powdered sugar.”
Meanwhile, Society is remarkably reflective of the experiences Pablo Vierci captured in the pages of his 2009 book. Whereas its predecessor Alive is known for being commercialized, religious, and at times shockingly lighthearted, Society of the Snow is a brutal, dark, horrifying, and immersive viewing experience, which more accurately reflects the nightmare that the passengers of Flight 571 went through.
The second component of the TARES test, Authentic, suggests it's important not only to do the right thing, but also “to do it with the right attitude”, and is closely linked to the concepts of sincerity and disclosure. In a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when asked about how he convinced the survivors and their families that he was going to handle everything sensitively and not in an exploitative way, Society of the Snow director J. A. Bayona responded that “[he] was worried…but the fact that [he] was putting the point of view from the other side made them very interested…somehow it’s the first time [they’re] telling the story of the whole society and that was very important, not only for the survivors but their families.” In the same interview, it gets brought up that the story of this disaster had been told before, so was it that he felt it needed to be told from a different perspective? He responds:
“I had the impression when I finished Pablo’s book that what was in that novel was something I hadn’t seen in a film. [Pablo] was great at getting into the minds of the characters and explaining not only the facts but what happened to them on the inside. And then we found a perspective that gave me the key to tell the story in a way that I hadn’t seen before.”
On the other hand, according to an article from The Baltimore Sun, Frank Marshall chose to direct Alive for different reasons. In 1991, Disney offered Marshall, longtime producer for Stephen Speilberg, several projects, including Alive. The passage describing Marshall’s rationale reads:
“Mr. Marshall chose Alive for a number of reasons: the challenge of shooting 10,000 feet up in the Canadian Rockies; the opportunity to film one of the most dramatic — and prolonged — plane-crash sequences in movie history; the story of “ordinary people in extraordinary, impossible situations”; and the fact that just as Mr. Marshall was on the car phone with Disney’s Jeffrey Katzenberg, a pickup cut in front of him with a bumper sticker that read: ‘Rugby Players Eat Their Dead.’”
Moreover, in the acknowledgments for Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors, Piers Paul Read reveals that when he showed the manuscript of the book to the survivors, “some of them were disappointed by [his] presentation of their story”. Alive is a film made by a director who seemingly chose the project on a whim, based on a book that, according to the survivors, doesn’t convey “the faith and friendship which inspired them in the cordillera”. It is evident, not just through interviews, but through the film itself, that J. A. Bayona not only made Society of the Snow with “the right attitude”, but is able to justify making yet another feature film about the passengers of Flight 571.
The next component of the TARES test deals with respect. When adapting true events, especially tragedies such as this, it's important to show respect to the people involved, both living and dead. This aspect has the creator consider if they are willing to take full, open, and personal responsibility for the content of the film. Frank Marshall’s Alive was aptly described in a review by Janet Maslin of the New York Times upon its release in 1993, which reads: “Alive, an account of plane-crash survivors who had to resort to cannibalism to last out their ordeal in the Andes, is a study in madness, not on the parts of the Uruguayan rugby players who are the film's principals but on those of the Hollywood filmmakers who felt this story had the makings of upbeat, big-budget entertainment”. Indeed, even Marshall himself insists “it’s one of those great Hollywood stories”. In his book, survivor Carlitos Páez writes that in Alive, “the magnitude of the avalanche was not portrayed in full force[, and] when he mentioned this to director Frank Marshall…he answered [that] he needed light to shoot and besides, it wasn’t his fault what [they] went through”. Society of the Snow seems to laugh in the face of this, depicting the avalanche in a horrifying and believable fashion. Additionally, as previously stated, director J. A. Bayona based much of his film on testimony from survivors, both from Society of the Snow and footage that they compiled during pre-production, as well as maintaining lines of contact between the actors portraying the people and either the people themselves or their families, if deceased. Through J. A. Bayona’s meticulous attention to detail, a general sense of empathy toward the passengers of Flight 571 from the entire cast and crew, and a thorough commitment to honoring the experiences of the victims and survivors, Society stands as a poignant example of how to show respect to the people involved in the real-life tragedies that are being adapted for the silver screen.
Equitable generally means dealing fairly and equally with all concerned, but in relation to the TARES test, it refers to whether the viewer is on the same level playing field as the film’s creator, or, in order to correctly interpret the film, must the viewer be abnormally well informed, unusually bright or quick-witted, and completely without prejudice. When comparing two films based on equitability in the context of ethical adaptation, the film that allows a wider range of viewers to engage with its themes and moral complexities without requiring exceptional cognitive abilities or specialized knowledge would be deemed more ethical. In this case, the films are evaluated based on how well they convey the survivors' experiences, challenges, and moral dilemmas without requiring viewers to have extensive knowledge of survival techniques or deep insights into the human psyche. One of the main differences between the two films is that Frank Marshall’s Alive has two distinct main characters - Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa, the two survivors who would eventually trek 38 miles to find help, portrayed by Ethan Hawke and Josh Hamilton, respectively, whereas J. A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow focuses instead on the group as a whole, with the only possible main character being the film’s narrator, Enzo Vogrincic Roldán’s Numa Turcatti, the last passenger to die on the mountain. Although some criticize Society for this decision, citing that it is harder to connect with each of the individual characters, this is the story about the survival of a group of people, not just two. Although Canessa and Parrado’s efforts to get the survivors off the mountain were invaluable, it cannot be understated the importance that each person in the society had, a sentiment the viewer comes to understand by the end of Society. Viewers may not emerge from Society knowing everyone's names, but they will have a significantly better understanding of what the passengers endured and what it took, mentally and physically, to get off the mountain than if they watched Alive.
The final component of the TARES test is Socially Responsible. This element questions whether if everyone who was able to view this film did, if society as a whole would be improved, keeping in mind that recreation and self-improvement are worthy social goals. Additionally, it asks if the film increases or decreases the trust the average person has for persuasive messages, and if this film takes the notion of corporate responsibility, both to make money and to improve human life and welfare, seriously and truthfully. It emphasizes the significance of considering not just the content of persuasive messages, but additionally their broader impact on societal values, trust, and ethical considerations, highlighting the importance of responsible storytelling in the media landscape. A major distinction between the two films is the way in which they each handle religion. As Richard Lawson says in his review of Society of the Snow for Vanity Fair, “maybe the 50-year span has given [Pablo] Vierci’s recounting a crucial perspective that Alive often lacks. [John Patrick] Shanley’s adaptation swaps in grand platitudes about God where specific human dimensions are better suited.” It is true that a majority of the passengers on the Fairchild were religious and relied heavily on prayer, and it is an important part of both films, however the degree to which religion is emphasized in Alive is laughable. It would be easy to convince a first-time viewer with zero knowledge of the production of the film that it was created by some sort of church organization. In the same article, Lawson also states that “Marshall’s film is demure, casual in comparison [to Society]. Alive is more concerned with human spirit than human suffering; it’s lit and warmed by Tinseltown glow.” It is clear that Frank Marshall’s 1993 adaptation lacks the essence of what draws people to this story in the first place, instead creating a white-washed religion commercial that reeks of early 90s Hollywood and big corporations. Society, on the other hand, handles religion delicately and efficiently, not spending a second longer on it than necessary while still emphasizing the passengers’ faith. As survivors Roberto Canessa and Gustavo Zerbino write, “[i]t is not a film that aims to make the audience suffer. It is a film that aims to rouse the viewer’s faith in the person sitting next to them.” If everyone with access to Netflix watched Society of the Snow, society as a whole would be improved, not only for recreational reasons, but additionally because Society is a film that promotes empathy, resilience, and the strength of human spirit in the face of adversity.
The story of the ethical dilemmas, survival, and resilience of the passengers of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 has been the subject of many media adaptations, such as the films Alive (1993) and Society of the Snow (2023).Through the lens of the TARES test, which evaluates the truthfulness, authenticity, respect, equitability, and social responsibility of communication, it becomes clear that Society of the Snow emerges as a more ethical and responsible adaptation. The truthfulness of Society of the Snow lies in its deep exploration of the survivors' experiences, not just in terms of facts but also in understanding the emotional and psychological impact of the ordeal. Society director J. A. Bayona's approach in creating his Spanish-language disaster film, which was based on extensive research, interviews with survivors, and sensitivity to their perspectives, creates a more accurate and meaningful portrayal of the events than in Frank Marshall’s award-losing survival drama. In terms of authenticity, Society stands out for its genuine commitment to representing the survivors' story with respect and empathy. The filmmakers' engagement with survivors and their families, as well as their dedication to portraying the internal struggles and moral complexities faced by the passengers, reflects a sincere effort to do justice to the real-life experiences. Respect is a key aspect of ethical adaptation, and here again, Society excels. The film treats the subject matter with dignity, avoiding sensationalism or exploitation. By focusing on the collective experience of the survivors and honoring their journey, the film earns the respect of both the audience and the survivors themselves. Equitability in storytelling refers to the accessibility and relatability of the narrative to a wide audience. While Alive may have focused more narrowly on specific characters, allowing the audience to have individual characters to connect with, Society takes a broader approach that allows viewers to connect with the overall themes of survival, camaraderie, and resilience without requiring specialized knowledge or biases. By emphasizing themes such as empathy and the strength of the human spirit and promoting a deeper understanding of the survivors' experiences, Society of the Snow contributes positively to societal values and encourages empathy and compassion. Society is not only well-written, well-acted, and well-shot, but also sets a high standard for ethical adaptation through its thoughtful and sensitive portrayal of a harrowing ordeal and how it fictionalized the survivors' very real experiences respectfully and accurately. The film leaves a lasting impact on its audience, fostering empathy, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the human capacity to overcome adversity.

2024.04.10 17:32 Neat-Donkey6475 Chinas Überkapazitäten bedrohen ganze Branchen in Deutschland

Chinas Überkapazitäten bedrohen ganze Branchen in Deutschland
"China braucht Deutschland".

2024.02.26 13:49 Less-Feedback4104 My ex and I are in a complicated situation and it's my fault for being dumb and immature

Ex= Janet Best friend= Karina So my ex and I ended things recently and it has been dreadful all the feeling and constant missing them hurts the reason for our break up is my fault I think that's why It hurts. So my ex and I always had a point of discussion about lying and my best female friend Karina (ik I shouldn't have one) my best friend and I were there for each other through a lot of moments dark moments in each other's life we would go on trips basically act like boyfriend and girlfriend without the titles I would spoil her without expecting anything in return and both our families always liked each other we helped each other in financial support ( more from me than her and me) and emotional support (more her than me) now I recently had gotten into a relationship with my ex Janet and I kinda kept it secret for the beginning but then I told everyone including my best friend she didnt take it so well and kinda ghosted me for a while but then came around and Said she was jealous and she hoped me and her in the future I didn't think much of it but that shouldbe been my first warning then we get to what happened that broke us up. Me and my ex planned a trip to Disney (we lived in different states me in North Carolina her in Florida) i arrived ahead of her and kinda got bored and texted my best friend who lives in Orlando and if she wanted to hang out so we did and we drive got some food and that's it but I never told my partner (wrong of me ) and we went on the trip she saw my phone and saw the messages and pictures of her and me hanging out I never kissed or did anything physical but I guess I cheated emotionally with the gift giving and my otber actions my ex decided to end it and we both broke it off she then had no contact then I went to Orlando for work snd atarted talking wjrh my ex janet again talked about possibility or getting back together but at the same time i decided to kinda push away my best friend Karina she said she understood and wished me luck but then said if we can go out one more time and enjoy each other company basically as if we were a couple and I stupidly said yes we went to icon park with her family then we went to a restaurant with her alone I thought the family was joining but was wrong she then said she always cared for me and she's sorry that me and my ex broke up and she will respect my boundary which is what I wanted to do set the boundaries we are then I went to the bathroom and then she proceeded to take my phone take a selfie post it on my Instagram block my ex and that's it I thought nothing happened then I went back to my hotel room after she dropped me off and I called my ex to kinda talk and ask her something but no answer she then to ignore me and block me so I went to sleep frustrated and angry I woke up the next morning with messages of people asking who's she? Does this mean your no longer single? and I realized what happened and noticed the picture then saw my ex got mad because one of her friends told her about it I tried talking to her and she said I don't want to talk to me and never see me again we took time I eventually reached out my email and it was kinda flirty and everything but I wanted to see about getting together she said in the future now from yesterday she said I want a man who actually respects me doesnt post other girls shows care and etc and she said well see in 3 years again and I don't know what to do this is my fault and I understand i shoulve acted better but she contradicts herself a few times she says i can gf out with anyone and I go with my group of friends which there are females and she doesn't like I hanged out wit her or when i traveled with my coworkers and we had gone to the beach and she saw a picture of a girl in my story and she got mad about it she says she still cares and wabts to be in thr future we are long distance rn but she says show me you want to be with me, show me you changed, show me the man that I fell in love with not with buying me gifts because material stuff is not important to her and she wants me to actually show her but now she says after 3 years we can possibly get back but I don't know what to do anyone have any tips.her whole thinh is i cheated emotionally by treating Karina as my girlfriend without the title.my whole worry is that if we heal and get better both of us because we stated seeing therapist what if she finds someone better or someone else in those 3 years even tho she claims I don't want to be with anyone else rn idk it could change idk but now I'm wondering what to do hoe to fix this please any advice

2024.02.17 01:29 OkAbrocoma8690 AITA for ruining Valentine's Day?

For clarification above the line is my pov from me. The bottom portion is written by my gf or maybe ex-gf as me.
AITA for messing up Valentine's Day
Context, we've been together for 5 years and have 2 kids together 4f and 2m. My girlfriend, probably soon to be ex-girlfriend is a very romantic person, I'm talking wants her life to be K-Drama perfect. I haven't ever made Valentine's day plans in the past besides occasional flowers and dinner. Besides that, this year we went on a family trip and the days off that I took without pay really set us back on rent and we're still feeling it rn.
I had planned put Valentine's day this year and assured her I had very nice plans this year. She is a student and is taking quite a few courses and had hw just the same for her classes. She procrastinated into doing an all nighter to complete her hw as well as exam. She was very stressed about the exam due to the allotted time being insufficient, but she looked like she was managing it. I told her a week and change ago about the plans (just not the details), and told her to keep the day open. Things went down hill when a few days before the 14th, she told me that her friends needed someone present for movers to be allowed into their new apartment for furniture placement on the 14th itself. She, without consulting me, agreed to be present. She didn't finish her hw through the night and still had a few hours of hw to be finished after we got back home. I got off work in the morning amd headed to the apartment as I agreed to be present amd make the best of it. I knock and when she opens the door I hand her the flower arrangement amd tell her Happy Valentine's Day and proceed with a kiss. We finish the apartment presence at noon and head home where she began to finish her hw in the living room.
The plan was for our children to be babysat while we had our day, as I was making up for the past years. But when it was around time for our daughter to be picked up, I was told by my girlfriend to pick her up from school early, so I did. It's now around 3 and our child that was there was being silent being entertained by me. I get up to use the restroom amd when I'm headed back I see a spray bottle we were looking for the night prior. She was stressed throughout her hw process which only increased after starting the exam. I start to clean up because there was a mess and our child asked me a question in a fairly normal voice; my girlfriend then screams at pur daughter silence amd tells her to leave. I then tell our daughter to come to the room with me as there was no reason she should be yelled at further. My girlfriend didn't like this comment because she said she was stressed, I told her that I understood that she was stressed but that it wasn't a reason to scream at our daughter for not even speaking to her, but rather in her presence. This was the first time she made any noise the entire time and I felt it was unwarranted. She then told me to leave the room amd didn't finish her hw until 4pm. I was then told that she no longer wanted to do anything because I handled the situation poorly. I tried to explain that it frustrated me because she yelled at our daughter in a moment of stress which was not ok. We did not end up going out and I had to cancel our reservation.

I worked a 24 hour shift on the 15th and while I was working I was told that the flowers I had arranged were ugly and that there was no effort shown. Now onto the plans I had prior to the apartment ordeal, my plans were to start the day with shopping as she has been statimg needing more miscellaneous items for herself specifically clothing, following with a snack meal before our dinner reservations at a restaurant she adores. I called ahead of time to make a request that her plate have I love you written in sauce, which I thought was sappy and cute, but she likes that type of thing. After dinner would be heading home for activities throughout the night which she always tells me she wants to do, but in the spirit of making up, I planned on giving her everything I should've been. But we didn't get to do any of that and im pretty sure she's going to break up with me. AITA? I ask that all comments be held until all parts are added. I tried posting more but it says I can't post it, because it's too long.AITA for snapping at my GF for ruining our Valentine's day plans?

So this is a throwaway, but I need some clarity as I know I was wrong, but I think she was wrong too. I'll be using fake names as well.
So for context I (22m) and my gf (22f) have been together for 5 years and have two kids together. Well and I know I fucked up but I had been cheating on her for 3 of those years. I'm not going into detail about the cheating, but she found out when she was in the last trimester of our second child. The first one was unplanned but the second one was planned. Well she chose to stay with me to try and work it out because we have two kids now and it would be unfair to them. I also deeply love her and I deeply regret my actions, so for two years I have been trying to make it up to her and I felt like we were finally in a good place. Well she has always expressed that I should be more romantic since the beginning and she has this high standard for Valentines day because of Movies and TV. She is also one of those girls that despite being in a relationship wants to be asked to be a Valentine. I've never been able to spend Valentines day with her for the past 4 years because of work or me just being plain stupid. So now comes my problem.
This Valentines day I decided to go all out and made plans for us to go out shopping, have a snack, and then dinner and I called the restaurant, so they could put, " I love you, Janet(fake name)" in sause for her food. Well three days before Valentines day she tells me she's going to help her best friends move into their new apartment as the movers would be showing up when her friends would be at work. I said okay because I thought it was going to be a quick thing. Well it wasn't and she got home at 12 pm and started to work on an Exam she had due that day for an online course. I started to get annoyed because our plans was a whole day thing. Well our daughter(4) was making a ruckus and so my gf shouted for her to stop, and I told her there was no need for that, to which she shouted at me to leave her alone and I didn't because that was uncalled for. I get she was stressed, but she should have taken her test in the room. After she kept yelling at me to leave her alone, so she can focus, I took our daughter to play in our room, our son was at her mom's, so it was just our daughter. Well after 30 minutes, she barges in the room and tells me that she will no longer be partaking in any plans I had made because I had spoiled her mood. She yells at me that it was a 30 minute exam that had 40 questions and instead of taking our daughter to the room when she started I had let her make a ruckus and then when she was visibly frustrated I continued to badger her, while her test was going on. I told her that she shouldn't have yelled at our daughter and should have taken the test in the room in the first place, and that we could still go out. She said no and that I ruined Valentine's day for her. I don't know how she came to that conclusion but apparently it was MY fault. I decided to give her space, and then the next day I left to work( I work 24hr shifts). Everything seemed fine, she was responding to texts, although dry, but she was communicating. Well Thursday night/Friday morning she spams me with texts about how she's run out of patience and that I'm never romantic with her, she even brought up my past and said that I had been more romantic to other hoes than her. I explained to her our plans that I had made and she said she didn't care cause I had ruined the day for her. I told her that Valentines day is for two people and that SHE had ruined our plans and made me upset, she scoffed and told me that since I had made 3 years of our relationship about me and I had never given her a Valentines day that meant that this years was supposed to be about her. Now she says she's done with me cause her patience has run out, but I don't want to be done. Am I really at fault here? AITA? Was this day really supposed to be about her? I know I might end up getting chewed out, so please don't hold back, because she told me to make this post, so I can figure my own sh*t out.

2024.02.07 21:55 Dark-Artist Artists with a dark, theatrical edge?

Some of my favorite RnB has a sort of dark cinematic/theatrical edge to it. Examples are early Weekend (Professional, High for This), FKA Twigs (holy terrain, Closer), 90's era Michael and Janet (They Don't Care About Us, Scream, If, Rhythm Nation), even something a little more tame like Stranger In My House by Tamia, Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton, also the general sound of Brandy's 'Afrodisiac' album — you know, that very over-the-top, dramatic, doing-way-too-much sound, is what I'm into.
So if you have any suggestions along these lines, either classic or recent, I'd be excited to hear.

2024.02.02 07:20 Marcitolove Hey guys new to this sub and a new fan!

I'm a new fan to Janet and I first discovered her on her "Feedback era" like a long time ago. Love that song to this day. But now as I was discovering Mariahs stuff, Janet's name would appear in my playlist so I've decided to dive deep on her wonderful RnB vibe and learning the history of the Jackson family.
As a 22 y/o I've always grew up with Michael J. He always uplifted my spirits and had a huge impact on my family during 2000s. My mom loved Janet's music although she really grew up with her right before her eyes. And I'm excited to hear more great music from her and hopefully one day I'll go see her in concert. I have a full list who I wanna see live next to Mariah. I appreciate any welcomes and advice what I could learn next!!! Love you all.
