2024.05.19 12:04 True-Trick-345 Insurance claim I gave up on showing on insurance policy

Hi all,
I was checking my insurance policy on line today and saw a claim for £3000 from June 2021... I made a claim in summer 2021 but never got any money for it. Is it normal for the insurer to put a value on a claim they didn't pay out and put it on my record?
The claim (if anyone is interested): I flooded my house during the cooling off period for my insurance policy being taken out. I left the bathroom tap on and went to work for 12 hours (I have ADHD). I called the insurer the next morning and spoke to a guy who was working from home who told me to get a quote from a builder and call back. It took like 4-6 weeks to get that quote because it was COVID and everyone was either busy or isolating. When I called back they had no record of my original call. They asked me to send in all the documents and wait a few weeks to process, then they moved it to another department. That department asked me to send everything again and wait a few weeks for processing. They did this a few times with each department asking for the same documents to be sent again. During this time my kitchen, lounge and bathroom were a mess but they told me I couldn't start work to get it fixed or they wouldn't cover it. After several months they came right out and told me they thought it was a false claim, their reasons being :
  1. They didn't believe I had made the first call to their service and I didn't post pictures of the damage on social media. This was evidence to them that I had flooded the house then taken out the insurance policy.
  2. I only had contents insurance which was evidence that I had only taken out one policy that I intended to claim on (I had both home and contents, both with them, but I hadn't claimed on the contents because I had a £500 excess and don't think my stuff was worth that, so they assumed I didn't have it)
  3. They said that I had changed my story. This whole transferring departments and asking for the documents to be sent again was their investigation against me, and they said I had sent in different information. I knew this wasn't true because I had literally forwarded the same email each time.
  4. They said I had changed the date it happened. They said I had told them one date on the phone then showed them photos dated a week earlier. I had actually told them on the phone that I didn't remember the date but it had been during the cooling off period of the policy, so the lady I was speaking to put the last day of the policy. The photos I had were from the week before (half way through the policy).
I was naive going into this, I have learnt a lot about insurers.
I realised they weren't going to pay out and I was sick of living in a building site so I got it sorted myself. It was the underwriter Southern Rock whom I had this running with.
I am just wondering why it says I claimed for £3000 because my builders estimate was less than half that.

2024.05.19 11:47 McLovinMyBacon When do Klook release their USJ express pass tickets?

Hi all. I’m trying to get Express Pass 7 tickets for my trip to Japan. It seems that Klook release their tickets exactly 2 months prior to the desired date. I’ve been testing trying to determine the release schedule to get these tickets for when I need to on either 30th or 31st July. Everytime I go on first thing in the morning (about 9am GMT) they seem to be sold out already for the date that is 2 months in advance.
Does anyone know when I need to get on the site to secure express pass 7 tickets for either the 30th/31st July and what time these tickets are usually available?
Thanks

2024.05.19 11:37 Important-Strike-295 My [29F] Boyfriend [36M] broke my trust several times. I want to install a tracker on his phone. He refuses. What do I do now?

First time posting. Looking for advice and opinions regarding phone monitoring and trust in a relationship after it's been broken. I'm not interested in any advice on wether or not I should end the relationship. TL:DR at the bottom.
I met my boyfriend at work. (I know, dating coworkers isn’t a great idea, but here we are). I developed a crush on him, and after several months I eventually asked him if he’d be interested in going out/hooking up He hadn’t been in a relationship in over 10 years, and was a bit of a loner. His previous girlfriend was his first. They were together 7 years. She constantly cheated on him and left him, before they finally split for good. My boyfriend still suffers some PTSD from it, and has developed a bit of an avoidant attachment style.
We began seeing each other early last year and became intimate quickly. I felt myself falling for him rapidly, but one thing that began to bother me after several months of seeing each other is that he didn’t seem to be very interested in making our relationship official. I had asked him several times if we could be exclusive/boyfriend and girlfriend, but he always seemed to dodge the question.
A few times during my visits to his apartment, he had let slip that he’s still talking to his ex, and he still has feelings for her. This made me worried. I asked him many times to clarify where I stand with him, but he was never able to answer. During one of my visits, he told me that his ex had sent him nudes. I asked if he had sent any back. He said he didn’t. I asked him if we’ve been exclusive since we started seeing each other. He said we had been, and we agreed to continue being exclusive, even if we weren’t official yet.
After about 5 months of seeing each other, he still would not commit to me. I felt like he was hiding something about his ex. While he was at my place sleeping one night, I decided to go through his phone. I discovered that he had been sexting and flirting with his ex the entire time I had been dating him, and she had no idea he was also seeing me. I found messages saying how much he still loved her. It crushed me.
I sent his ex a message on Facebook to ask if he had told her that he has been seeing me. She said he mentioned me once, but she didn’t know we were still dating. She said she made it clear to him that she doesn’t want a relationship with him, but entertained his advances out of loneliness. I confronted him about this, and asked if they had hooked up since I had started seeing him. He said no. I later found out that was a lie. They had hooked up several times when he was supposedly at his parent's house. He got upset with me for invading his privacy, and we didn’t talk for a few days.
After a few days, we worked things out. I decided that he didn’t technically cheat on me since we weren’t officially a couple yet, but he did lie to me about his ex and about us being exclusive. After his ex made it clear to him again that she isn’t interested in dating him, he finally decided to make me his girlfriend. I was happy that we were finally an official couple, but still heartbroken over how we got there.
My trust in him was broken at this point. He lied about his ex to me several times before I discovered his big secret. Even when I had the evidence in my hand that he had been lying, he minimized it, and only gave me trickle truths to the things I could directly prove. So, in order to rebuild trust, I asked him to give me his Facebook password, so I could make sure his conversations with his ex remain Platonic. At first, he declined, but after about a week he finally gave it to me. At the same time, however, he changed the lock code on his phone.
He stopped seeing/flirting with his ex, but the fact that he changed the passcode to his phone made me feel like he was still hiding something. He insisted that he wasn’t hiding anything. He said that he felt it was needed after I went through his phone without permission, because he uses his phone to access his bank online sometimes, and is worried that I would try to steal from him. (I’ve never asked him for money, I make the same amount of money he does, I’m completely financially independent, and I pay for most of the meals when we order food). I told him I understand his concern, but his banking account/apps should already be password protected, so there wouldn’t be anything to worry about. This went on for several months until I was finally able to convince him to change his passcode back in order for me to trust him again.
A few weeks after he gave me access to his phone again, I decided to check it. He goes out of his way to cover his digital footprint. He has a habit of deleting emails, messages, and call logs as soon as they’re no longer needed. He also exclusively uses an incognito private browser. This is all fine, but it’s an important detail. While checking his phone, I decided to also check cached website data in his browser. I found cached data for a hookup website. I made a burner account on the website and found his profile. I was able to log into his account, since he used the same password for Facebook. I discovered that he signed up for the website using an email address that I had never seen him use before. I found several messages he exchanged with other people on the site asking them to meetup.
I confronted him about my findings, and he dismissed my concerns, telling me that he never actually intended to meet with anyone, he just likes to chat as an alternative to porn (I don’t mind porn.) I didn’t believe him, though. He quickly deleted his profile. Shortly after confronting him, I decided to try accessing the secret email account he used to check if he had anything else he was hiding. Unfortunately, he had already scrubbed the emails and deleted his account.
After a few days of arguing, we eventually reconciled. I told him that I can’t trust him anymore unless he allows me to install monitoring software on his phone/computer. He said no. This didn’t sit right with me. He kept insisting that what he did wasn’t a big deal, that he loved me, and that he wasn’t hiding anything else. I had my doubts. So, without his knowledge, I decided to install hidden tracking software on his phone and computer. I kept an eye on him for about 3 weeks. However, while I was checking the logs, I became increasingly disturbed by the porn he was choosing to view. This wasn’t anything illegal, but it was definitely not normal and a bit disturbing. I finally broke and admitted to him that I had bugged his devices. He flew off the handle and broke up with me because I betrayed him, and he couldn’t trust me anymore.
We eventually reconciled again after ~a week. I felt very hurt by the betrayal, but decided that I wanted to try to work things out. However, we couldn’t agree on what level of access to his devices/accounts is appropriate. He told me that monitoring his devices was never okay in any situation, no matter what he has done, and that my actions were creepy and cyberstalking. I told him I’m sorry for going behind his back, I felt like I needed to know the truth. (During my time monitoring him, I didn’t find any evidence of him cheating, but I will also note that I was not able to monitor everything he did, so he still could have cheated without me knowing.)
I told him that I would like for him to give me his blessing to monitor his devices so that we can rebuild the trust he broke. He refused, so I broke up with him again, but we ended up getting back together a few days later.
*Side note: I moved to this town a few years ago from out of state, I don’t have any friends or family out here, and don’t really have any friends in general.
I still had access to his Facebook account, and still checked it every few days. I found some messages to an attractive female friend of his where he had gone to her house the day after we broke up. The wording of his messages implied that something sexual may have happened when he was there. I asked him if anything sexual happened when he visited his friend. I told him that since we were broken up during this time, I wouldn’t hold it against him if they slept together, but for the sake of rebuilding trust, I felt like it was important that he at least be honest with me about it. He said nothing sexual happened.
A few days later I was reading the messages again and noticed that some of them were deleted. I asked him again, and he admitted that they made out a little bit, but nothing sexual happened. I still felt like he was holding back more detail, and kept pressing the issue, but he insisted that nothing more happened. (I found out a month later that he did in fact sleep with her.)
About a month later, I was doing my usual check of his accounts that I had access to. I found an email exchange he had been having for a couple of days with someone he found on a Craigslist type site. He had posted on the website soliciting hookups. In his email, he talked to this other person and made plans to meet up. There was no date set in stone, but they agreed he would go over to the other person’s house.
I confronted him about this. Asked him several times if he has anything he’s hiding from me. He insisted he wasn’t hiding anything. I told him I found his post/email chain. He got upset and said I shouldn’t have been snooping. Shortly afterward, he changed his passwords to all of his accounts that I had access to, and enabled 2FA. I broke up with him after that, and told him that I would only consider reconciliation if he agreed to let me install monitoring software on his devices. He is very careful to delete his history and cookies, never saves passwords, only logs into websites with incognito mode. He’s used secret email accounts in the past, which is why I believe that simple access to his devices and accounts isn’t enough to earn my trust back.
He refused my conditions for reconciliation, but insists he still wants to be together. We got back together after I broke down and walked back on my requirement.
TL:DR - My boyfriend has cheated, lied, and broken my trust several times. He and I both want to remain together and work things out. The only way I feel I would be able to trust him is if he allowed me to install tracking software on his phone since he keeps everything deleted. He refuses. What should I do?

2024.05.19 11:28 ColdEntertainer5914 Are Australian Men good a communicating?

Hi guys, I'm not here to generalize. I'm an Italian girl. Me and an Australian guy have been friends for years now, a couple of months ago, a kiss was sparked between us. Since then, whenever he is drunk, we kiss. I got brave and asked him to meet me outside of a party setting for a date. He said yes and was enthusiastic about it but every time we had to arrange then nothing happened because he was "busy."
I would accept the rejection and I would love to keep our friendship in any case, but I would like it to be communicated to me in a direct way.
I don't want to generalize but why does he only look for me when he is drunk? Does he take courage like that? Are Australian men normally direct? In Italy it's very common to talk about one's emotions openly so I'm wondering if I'm experiencing a cultural clash right now.
Thank you!

2024.05.19 11:23 Accurate-Screen8774 A Decentralized Microfrontend Architecture

A Decentralized Microfrontend Architecture
Disclaimer: the following is a recent medium article. it is being posted in full on Reddit to compare feedback and engagement of Reddit users with long-form articles.
Decentralization can mean a lot of things because it can be open to interpretation. In this article, we would like to talk about what decentralization means to us and how we are approaching our definition of decentralized. We are working on a typical chat app, but our approach is unique and may push the boundaries of what it means for something to be self-hosted.
Our decentralized chat application is built as a Progressive Web Apps (PWA) and leverages modern web technologies to deliver a user experience comparable to native apps. Unlike traditional centralized chat apps, our chat app is designed to operate independently of central servers, ensuring that user data remains private and secure. This article will delve into the various components and architectural decisions that make our app truly decentralized.

The Decentralized Chat App

An overview of how our chat application leverages Progressive Web App (PWA) technology to provide a seamless user experience across different devices and platforms.
https://preview.redd.it/ntyghqt5oc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=f273717c0c26ef5befcd303fc45de104af63f8d0

Data Storage and Networking

A typical app relies heavily on data storage and networking capabilities. In our decentralized chat application, we’ve implemented advanced solutions to handle these aspects efficiently and securely.

Data Storage

In our app, we use IndexedDB to store data directly in the browser’s storage. While browsers provide multiple options for storing information, ranging from cookies to local storage, IndexedDB offers a more advanced and robust solution.
Capacity: IndexedDB can store significantly larger amounts of data compared to cookies or local storage. Structure: It allows for complex data structures, including collections of files and blobs. Performance: IndexedDB operates asynchronously, meaning it won’t block the main thread of your application, leading to better performance for data-heavy applications.
Using IndexedDB, we ensure that user data is stored locally on their devices, providing both privacy and independence from central servers.

Networking

For networking, our app uses PeerJS-server as a connection broker to establish WebRTC connections between peers.
Direct Peer-to-Peer: WebRTC, provided by the browser, enables real-time communication between peers. This allows two users to connect directly and exchange data with minimal latency. Efficient Routing: Once a connection is established, data is sent via the shortest possible network route, enhancing speed and efficiency. Multiple Connections: Browsers can handle multiple WebRTC connections simultaneously, though the number of connections can vary depending on the device and network capabilities.
PeerJS-server helps in the initial connection setup by acting as a signaling server. It facilitates the exchange of connection information between peers, enabling them to establish a direct WebRTC connection.
By leveraging IndexedDB for data storage and WebRTC with PeerJS-server for networking, our chat application achieves a high level of decentralization, ensuring user data remains private and connections are efficient and reliable. These components form the backbone of our approach, pushing the boundaries of what it means for an app to be truly self-hosted and decentralized

Static Distribution and Deployment

Our app is essentially a bundle of static files, which makes it highly portable and easy to distribute. We leverage AWS services such as S3 and CloudFormation to deploy our app, ensuring it is distributed efficiently over a Content Delivery Network (CDN) across AWS servers.

AWS S3 and CloudFormation

AWS S3: We host our app on AWS S3, a scalable storage service that allows us to serve static files reliably. S3 ensures that our app is always available and can handle large numbers of requests without performance degradation. CloudFormation: By using AWS CloudFormation, we automate the deployment process, managing our infrastructure as code. This makes it easy to replicate and manage our app’s deployment environment.
Hosting on S3 and using CloudFormation means our app benefits from AWS’s global CDN. This ensures that our static files are cached and served from servers closest to our users, reducing latency and improving load times.

Offline Availability and Self-Hosting

We go a step further by providing users with the option to download a zip file of the app directly from within the app. This ensures that users can run the app locally without relying on our servers.
Direct from Index.html: Unlike some other apps, our app is a pure JavaScript implementation, designed to run directly from the index.html file. Users can simply open this file in their browser and start using the app without needing a server. Docker Option: For users who prefer or require a server setup, we offer a Docker configuration. This allows the app to be run in a containerized environment, providing flexibility and ease of deployment for different use cases.

Unminified Code for Transparency

We believe in transparency and accessibility. Therefore, we run the app as unminified code. This has several advantages:
Ease of Download: Users can download the entire app using simple browser commands like Ctrl/Cmd+S. Transparency: By providing unminified code, we ensure that users can inspect and understand the code they are running. This fosters trust and allows for easier customization and debugging.
By distributing our app as static files and offering multiple ways to run it, we ensure that users have maximum flexibility and control. Whether using AWS’s robust infrastructure or running the app locally, our approach embodies the principles of decentralization and user empowerment.

Webpack 5 Module Federation

Our app leverages Webpack 5’s Module Federation feature to implement a microfrontend architecture. This approach allows us to modularize our application, making it easier to maintain, develop, and scale. You can explore our open-source implementation here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/frontend-base.

Current Implementation

We have used Webpack 5 Module Federation to build the chat application, which you can find here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/chat. Additionally, we have created a federated module for cryptography that can be imported at runtime, available here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/cryptography. Our current setup is straightforward, allowing us to dynamically load different parts of the application as needed. This modular approach provides flexibility and efficiency in how we develop and deploy our app.

Future Enhancements

We plan to further decompose the application into separate microfrontends, each responsible for a specific aspect of the app. This will not only simplify maintenance but also enhance documentation and development processes for individual components.
Planned Modules:
1. UI Components: A collection of reusable UI components that can be shared across different parts of the application, promoting consistency and reducing duplication. 2. P2P Framework: The core framework for peer-to-peer networking, facilitating real-time communication between users. 3. State Management: This module will manage the application’s state, ensuring efficient data handling and synchronization across different components and peers. 4. Permission Manager: A dedicated module for managing user permissions and access control, enhancing security and user management.
https://preview.redd.it/w16teobjoc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=9305db7dc16981aaf8499bfa2a7aade3c44a06d2

Individual Storybooks and Module Exports

Each module will have its own Storybook and module export, providing a dedicated space for documentation, testing, and showcasing individual components. This approach will:
Enhance Documentation: Each module will be well-documented, making it easier for developers to understand and use them. Simplify Maintenance: By isolating modules, we can update and maintain them independently, reducing the risk of breaking changes affecting the entire app. Promote Reusability: Well-defined modules can be reused across different projects, promoting a modular and efficient development approach.
By embracing Webpack 5 Module Federation and breaking down our app into distinct microfrontends, we aim to create a more robust, scalable, and maintainable architecture. This approach not only benefits our development process but also enhances the overall user experience by ensuring that each component is well-crafted and easily accessible.

Redundancy and Reliability

In the past, we have encountered difficulties when deploying our app to AWS due to various technical issues. Given that our app functions as a self-hosted static application, we have started exploring alternative hosting options, such as GitHub Pages. You can view our deployment on GitHub Pages here: https://positive-intentions.github.io/chat.

GitHub Pages Deployment

Our microfrontend architecture allows us to deploy each module independently. This capability has enabled us to host copies of the app on GitHub Pages for each repository. While this approach is unconventional and can lead to redundant copies of the app, we believe it is a valuable exercise in exploring module federation redundancy.
Accessibility: Hosting on GitHub Pages makes the app easily accessible to users and developers. Simplicity: GitHub Pages offers a straightforward deployment process, reducing the complexity often associated with other hosting solutions. Cost-Effective: GitHub Pages is free, making it an economical choice for hosting static sites.

Redundancy and Interoperability

We aim to make our app interoperable across different hosting sources. By leveraging Webpack 5 Module Federation, we can ensure that the app works seamlessly whether it is served from AWS or GitHub Pages. This redundancy enhances the app’s reliability and availability.
Module Federation Redundancy: We are investigating ways to make modules interoperable between different sources, ensuring that the app remains functional even if one source becomes unavailable. Interoperable Deployment: Our goal is to allow the app to fetch and integrate modules from both AWS and GitHub Pages dynamically.
https://preview.redd.it/m1nbx4nloc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7e708e530bece6bcbd492b2699755065b783eb0

Future Plans

To further enhance our deployment strategy, we plan to use a infrastructure as code tool, to deploy the app across multiple cloud service providers. This approach will increase the resilience of our deployment, ensuring the app remains online and functional even if one provider experiences downtime.
Multi-Cloud Deployment: We can deploy the app to various cloud service providers, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. This will distribute the app’s load and reduce the risk of a single point of failure. Scalability: This will enable us to scale the app easily across different providers, ensuring it can handle increased traffic without performance issues. Cost Management: Static file hosting is relatively a cheap option for hosting a webapp, we can optimize costs and ensure that the app remains affordable to maintain.
By exploring these new hosting options and implementing a robust deployment strategy, we aim to make our decentralized chat app more resilient, scalable, and cost-effective. Our efforts in redundancy and interoperability will ensure that the app continues to function seamlessly, providing a reliable user experience regardless of the hosting source.

Multi-Device Architecture

As our app continues to develop, we are excited to introduce the concept of a decentralized profile that can be shared across multiple devices. This feature is designed for individuals who want to use the same profile on all their devices, providing a seamless and integrated multi-platform chat experience, much like any modern chat application.

Decentralized Profile

A decentralized profile allows users to maintain a consistent identity and settings across different devices. This means that whether you are using a smartphone, tablet, or desktop, your profile can remain synchronized and up-to-date.
Profile Synchronization: Users can access their chat history, contacts, and settings on any device by synchronizing their decentralized profile. Data Consistency: Changes made on one device are automatically reflected on others, ensuring a consistent experience.

Multi-Platform Chat Experience

Implementing a decentralized profile enables us to offer a robust multi-platform chat experience. Users can switch between devices without losing their chat continuity or settings, enhancing the overall user experience.
Convenience: Users can start a conversation on one device and continue it on another without any interruptions. Flexibility: The app adapts to various devices, providing a user-friendly interface and experience on each platform.
https://preview.redd.it/8e2i3rrooc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=a034fe514dbd6aa889de2da16caea828f7833e38

Decentralized File Storage

In addition to profile synchronization, we are exploring the potential of decentralized file storage. This feature would allow users to move large files between devices quickly, easily and securely.
Cross-Device Sharing: Users can share files between their devices effortlessly, whether they are transferring a document from their laptop to their phone or vice versa. Collaborative Work: Teams can collaborate more effectively by sharing encrypted files directly through the app, regardless of the devices they are using.
By introducing a decentralized profile and exploring decentralized file storage, we aim to enhance our app’s functionality and user experience. These features will provide users with the convenience and flexibility expected from a modern chat application while maintaining the principles of decentralization and security.

Decentralized Peer Discovery

Decentralized peer discovery is a critical component of our app’s architecture. By leveraging innovative technologies such as QR codes, NFC, and BLE, we facilitate seamless connections between peers without relying on a central authority.

QR Codes

QR codes provide a straightforward method for establishing peer connections. Users can generate a QR code that contains their connection details, which other users can scan to initiate a peer-to-peer connection.
https://preview.redd.it/20jk09qqoc1d1.png?width=793&format=png&auto=webp&s=11d72cbae68ac953f955d4cb87ce4e41cf877341
Ease of Use: Users can quickly and easily share connection details. Security: QR codes can be generated dynamically, reducing the risk of interception.

NFC (Near Field Communication)

NFC allows devices to establish connections simply by being in close proximity. This technology is particularly useful for quick and secure peer discovery.
Speed: Connections are established almost instantly. Convenience: Users can connect devices by simply bringing them close together, making it ideal for spontaneous interactions.

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)

BLE enables devices to discover and communicate with each other over short distances with minimal power consumption. This makes it a suitable option for maintaining constant peer-to-peer connections.
Energy Efficiency: BLE conserves battery life, making it ideal for mobile devices. Range: BLE provides a reliable connection over a short range, perfect for personal or localized networking.

Combining Technologies for Enhanced Discovery

By integrating QR codes, NFC, and BLE, we create a robust and versatile peer discovery mechanism. Users can choose the most convenient method for their situation, ensuring that connections are both seamless and secure.
Hybrid Approach: Users can combine different methods for an optimal connection experience. For instance, initial discovery via QR code followed by connection via BLE for sustained communication. Adaptability: The app adapts to the available technologies on the user’s device, providing the best possible peer discovery experience.
These innovative approaches to peer discovery, coupled with our decentralized microfrontend architecture, form the backbone of our commitment to enhancing decentralization, scalability, and user experience. By continually exploring and implementing cutting-edge technologies, we ensure our app remains at the forefront of decentralized communication solutions
These sections outline the key aspects of our decentralized microfrontend architecture and provide a roadmap for our ongoing and future efforts to enhance decentralization, scalability, and user experience.

Conclusion

Our journey towards building a decentralized chat application has been driven by a desire to push the boundaries of what it means for an app to be truly self-hosted and independent of central servers. By leveraging modern web technologies such as Progressive Web Apps, IndexedDB, WebRTC, and Webpack 5 Module Federation, we have created a robust and scalable architecture that emphasizes privacy, security, and user empowerment.
We have explored innovative hosting solutions like GitHub Pages and plan to implement multi-cloud deployments to enhance resilience and scalability. Our vision for a multi-device architecture, incorporating decentralized profiles and encrypted file storage, aims to provide a seamless, cross-platform user experience. Additionally, our commitment to decentralized peer discovery using QR codes, NFC, and BLE ensures that users can connect easily and securely without relying on centralized authorities.
As we continue to develop and refine our app, we remain dedicated to the principles of decentralization, transparency, and user control. We invite you to join us on this journey, explore our open-source repositories, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our decentralized chat application. Together, we can redefine what it means to communicate in a decentralized world.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our project. We look forward to your feedback and collaboration as we continue to innovate and improve our decentralized chat application.

2024.05.19 11:05 greenmuddy Ladies, would you marry a freelancer?

I'm a 33 year old guy, working as a freelancer making 30 LPA.
After being in a few relationships up until my late twenties, I've been single for a while now. Ever since I started to freelance and work from home, my social circles dried up and I don't meet single women anymore.
I'm trying my luck on dating apps and matrimony sites, but it has been brutal out there. I get a rare match or two on dating apps and none at all on matrimony sites.
The girls I met on dating apps didn't want the same things as I do (like I want children and I don't smoke). I'm assuming girls on matrimony sites might have the same wavelength as me.
But, I get zero interest. I can't ascertain why I'm having such a hard time with arranged marriage. I can think of two reasons
  1. Some girl parents have straight up told me they are not interested in a freelancer and are looking for a software professional. I have a hard time convincing people that my income is stable and I'm in fact "well settled". I understand where they are coming from, but I am hopeful girls won't be as risk-averse as their parents.
  2. I'm 5'8 with a dad bod. But, I have always been this way. I haven't changed much physically from my mid and late twenties, and it didn't stop me from getting into relationships back then. I did meet my exes in-person and not online.
I don't get to the talking stage with most girls and I'm getting rejected entirely based on how I look on paper.
I want to hear from the women here. Do you view freelancing as an unconventional and unreliable income source? If you see a chunky guy's profile, do you immediately skip over it or do you consider it? Be brutally honest.

2024.05.19 10:47 Sirensayo I absolutely hate dating culture

My sister is going through this phase where she just absolutely has to have a boyfriend and her constant rambling has made me realise I absolutely fucking hate dating culture. I’m autistic (obviously), bisexual, trans masc and 21 for context.
From everything she’s told me and from what I’ve heard from the few friends I have, there’s no ‘friends stage’ anymore. You don’t just casually become friends with someone to get to know them and THEN go on some dates. It’s immediately dating. There’s no getting to know anyone without the rose tinted glasses of a potential relationship. You meet someone once, and based on the tiny amount you can learn from someone from one meeting you decide to start going on dates??? That’s so stupid. How can you genuinely get to know someone, unbiased, without being normal friends first?
And there’s all this reading into simple text messages, my sister is constantly saying shit like “I can’t reply now or I’ll seem desperate” or “he didn’t add an emoji he must be loosing interest”. I know my autism makes be very blunt, but the whole waiting an unwritten amount of time to text someone back or using certain emojis and phrases to hint if you’re interested or not is the stupidest social cue I’ve ever heard of. Why can’t you just be upfront? Communicate clearly so there’s no confusion? Just say “I like you, can we try this out” or “sorry but I’m not feeling it” it’s not that hard to be truthful and clear with your intentions.
Also kissing/sex before officially being a couple is common apparently? Like if it’s established to just be a one time hookup or FWB, sure whatever, that’s clear in the arrangement. But people are genuinely kissing and even fucking on the FIRST DATE? When my sister told me she made out for two hours on the first date and followed up with “he’s or my boyfriend” I was floored. The fuck do you mean?? You’re all up on this guy and you’re not even official? Not at the very least FWB you’re not even friends?? You’re just kissing some guy??
This shit is why I’m forever single, there’s so many pointless social cues, so many half truths and hoops to jump through. Also partly because there’s practically no queer people where I live. But fuck, what even IS dating culture? Are the NT cishets ok?

2024.05.19 10:46 TightAsF_ck Beware OnThatAss

So... OnThatAss are a widely considered to be a company from hell. They are on almost all cashback and get-paid-to sites. But they have tricky terms and conditions that are designed to ensure you stay subscribed for at least one month after you cancel (whether that's within the free trial or after).
What's worse, many people have cancelled only to be sent threatening emails about debt collectors. Stuff this company.
I'm going to see if I can beat them with minimal pain. I'm signing up to them to unlock something else on a get-paid-to site.

The Strategy

This seems ridiculous, but if you read the details below, you will see why this is needed.
To avoid falling into their trap, here’s what I plan to do: 1. Sign up towards the end of the month (today, and with more than 7 days to spare before next month). 2. Receive boxers before the end of the month. 3. Cancel before the end of the month. Sending a strongly worded email confirming my cancellation.

Did it work?

Do not attempt this. I will update here if it actually works without them sending threatening emails...

Why?!

The Promise

The Reality

The Confusing Terms

I think the last point is the kicker that they use to trap people in. Depending on when people sign up, the free trial period and the subsequent cancellation period might overlap with the beginning of the next billing cycle.

Cancellation Email

Subject: Subscription Cancellation Request
Dear OnThatAss Team,
I hear you make it tricky for people to cancel. Nevertheless, I am writing to cancel my subscription to your boxer shorts service. My subscription details are as follows:
  • Name: XXX
  • Registration Date: 19/05/2023
  • Date free boxer shorts were received: XXX
  • End of 14 day reflection period: XXX
As per your terms and conditions, I am cancelling within the 14-day trial period, and specifically before a new month starts to avoid any possibility that you mistakenly include my subscription in your next billing cycle.
Please confirm my cancellation and ensure that no charges are applied to my account. All future deliveries from OnThatAss will be rejected, and I have also cancelled my payment instruction.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,

2024.05.19 10:41 TheNocturnalDad OctoEverywhere Will Not Install after Firmware update and factory reset

I had previously performed a firmware update, and doing so borked Fluid. So I went and did a factory reset on my K1 Max. After rebooting and recalibrating, it said there was another firmware update available. So I downloaded that, re calibrated the printer, re enabled root/ssh, and proceeded to use the helper script to go through and install what I had before. Everything went fine until I got to OctoEverywhere. This is not the first time I've had issues getting it to install. I tried using the helper script as well as downloading the install manually. Tried deleting all files in the OctoEverywhere folder and tried again, no matter what I get some weird message " Could not build wheels for pillow, which is required to install pyproject.toml-based projects"
This is an error I've never seen before.
Below is what I HOPE is the output that may shine some light on what is going wrong. This is a fresh reset machine, up to date firmware, so I don't understand the problem.

Gats.io is getting deleted
Just so everyone knows, it looks like gats.io will be shutting down completely by the end of July this year according to information we found on whois.com.
It's really sad news and I hope it's not true.

https://preview.redd.it/m94ea7nlec1d1.jpg?width=1680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28cfefb5d91783b5aa31148f3853ac93f597372a

Introduction:

In the digital age, CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public Turing tests to tell Computers and Humans Apart) are an everyday challenge for internet users. These tests, designed to differentiate between human users and automated bots, are essential for maintaining online security. Normal captchas, typically involving distorted text or simple images, are the most common type encountered. This guide will help you understand and solve normal captchas efficiently.

Understanding Normal Captchas

Normal captchas are designed to be easy for humans to solve but difficult for bots. They come in various forms, including:
Text-Based Captchas: These require users to read and type distorted text shown in an image.
Image Captchas: Users are asked to identify objects in images, such as selecting all pictures that contain a certain item.
Audio Captchas: For accessibility, some captchas provide an audio version where users listen to a sequence of numbers or letters and then type them.

Strategies for Solving Normal Captchas

Text-Based Captchas:
Stay Calm: Take your time to carefully decipher the distorted text.
Use Browser Zoom: Zooming in can help you see the characters more clearly.
Retry: If the text is too difficult to read, there is usually an option to get a new captcha.
Image Captchas:
Look for Patterns: Focus on common objects or features asked in the captcha.
Click Carefully: Ensure you select all required images before submitting.
Refresh if Needed: Similar to text captchas, you can often request a new set of images.

Utilizing Technology to Solve Captchas

While manual solving methods are essential, technology can also aid in solving normal captchas. Here are a few tools and techniques:
Browser Extensions: Extensions like CaptchaAI can automatically solve normal captchas, saving you time and effort. These tools often use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to interpret and solve captchas.
AI and Machine Learning: Advanced AI algorithms can analyze and interpret visual and audio captcha challenges, providing accurate solutions quickly.
Assistive Technologies: For users with disabilities, assistive technologies like screen readers and speech-to-text software can help navigate and solve captchas.

Best Practices for Using Captcha Solving Tools

Choose Reliable Tools: Use reputable tools with good reviews to ensure accuracy and security.
Update Regularly: Keep your captcha-solving tools and browser extensions up to date to benefit from the latest improvements.
Respect Privacy and Security: Ensure the tools you use do not compromise your personal information or security.

Conclusion

Solving normal captchas doesn't have to be a frustrating experience. By understanding the different types of captchas and employing effective strategies, you can navigate these security measures with ease. Additionally, leveraging technology like AI-powered tools can further simplify the process, making your online interactions smoother and more efficient. With the right approach and resources, mastering the art of solving normal captchas is well within your reach.
Solving Captcha can be difficult to solve. You can either do it manually, which is time and effort-consuming and very cumbersome or use an automated solution, which is the cheapest way and does not consume a lot of resources. When choosing a site, consider your resources and the balance you want between speed and accuracy. Adding an automatic captcha solver can make the process more efficient So, CaptchaAI excels in solving captchas, offering an efficient solution that takes only a second for all normal captcha types including image Captcha solving, and The cost is 0.001 per 1,000 captchas, ensuring a high accuracy of 99.9%. This makes it the cheapest captcha solver and efficient.

2024.05.19 10:19 Valuable-Training-51 Seeking marriage, how to?

I am 36F, and I would like to get married sometime shortly. I am a loner and socially not as fluent. How do I go about this? I have dated in the past but it was no pressure because I was in grad school and focused on other things. Now I would like to settle down and I realize I am not sure how to go about it. I am African and childfree, I tend to date a bit older because I am very laid back naturally and like older people's activities. I am into gardening and hope to end up on a homestead with a flourishing garden and chickens, baking my own bread. Dating sites have been disappointing and I will stop here. How do I meet husband material?

2024.05.19 10:18 mehmatohs Dolomites - Available Accoms for 20 - 23 May at Garni Waltoy

Hi all,
This is a last ditch effort but I accidentally made a booking for Garni Waltoy at Val Gardena in the Italian Dolomites for 20 - 23 May even though I am visiting from 20 - 23 August instead….
I have spoken to the hotel and they have kindly agreed that if they manage to sell the room, they will refund me the payment for those dates.
As such, do let me know if anyone is interested in those dates for a stay in the Dolomites! They are currently going for around 170EUR a night. Even just taking over one night would help! Many thanks!!
Grateful if anyone could let me know of any sites I could post this on for people looking for last minute stays!
