2024.05.19 13:27 Weird_Cantaloupe2757 USB Switch with remote? (Or a better solution)

Does anyone know of a simple USB switch (NOT a hub, a single one in, two out switch) that has an IR remote?
The larger problem I am trying to solve is that I have a PC in a (well ventilated) closet that I connect to my office desk and to my living room TV via long HDMI and USB cables.
I have everything sorted right now except for bluetooth — there isn’t one spot that I can put the adapter that it can reach both PCs, and Windows will only recognize one adapter at a time. I have a long cable going to a hub, but for whatever reason, my PC is finicky about devices connected to a hub, and Bluetooth adapters don’t work at all connected to an external hub. My current solution is to run a long cable down the hallway while I am using it, but I am trying to set it up to where I don’t have to physically move any wires or anything to swap PCs. I already have an HDMI switch with an IR remote that I can trigger with an IR blaster wire into Homekit, so I can have my TV turn on to the PC input and switch the HDMI output to the PC with a single command on my phone.
I am trying to basically set up Bluetooth in the same way — have a second long cable running to a second BT adapter, and with a switch to swap between them. I have found some that have a push button, but no IR remote. There are some switchable hubs with an IR remote, but as I mentioned before, my mobo doesn’t like BT adapters connected to hubs (I’ve tried multiple adapters and multiple hubs). I found a little button pusher bot that could just push the button for me, but that’s getting pretty complicated.
Does such a device exist? Or is there a better solution of some kind (I am generally frustrated by the USB controller on this mobo, IDK if that’s fixable though — I even thought of getting a PCI-E USB adapter, but my absolute unit of a GPU blocks all of the other slots).

Please help
Not sure if it belongs here but u purchased a WiFi adapter for my pc so I could go wireless for the next couple months in between moves. But for the life of me I can’t get this in here. Did I not buy the right one? Is there a certain way to do it? It seems the bracket it came with also doesn’t fit my case. Any help will be appreciated. I’ve tried it altogether and it doesn’t even fit in the slot. Could I just run it with no bracket? Only going to be running for 2 months tops

2024.05.19 12:05 SlideHammer86 Sag support messes with GPU.

Hey there pc gods.
I have recently upgraded (R5 7500F, ASUS TUF X670-E WIFI, MSI 4080S Gaming X Trio, 32GB G-skill DDR5) and I assembled my computer, so far so good.
I couldn't use out of the box the Sag Bracket of my GPU because it is one of the type that you have to use the case slot screws to hold, like not a pillar but a parallel support that you fix on top of the gpu socket screws. I couldn't use it because on the next small slot I have an Asus XONAR soundcard, and there's simply not enough space to move it somewhere else (goddam 4080 are THICK).
So I waited for a few days until the pillar style bracket I ordered on amazon arrived. Then I installed it, and the mess started to happen.
Since then, sometimes I booted with only a blue line dots on the screen output, altough everything seemed to work fine elsewhere because I had the boot noise on my speakers, although no image.
Trying again, I was sometime stuck in a boot loop wen the post leds were RAM -> CPU -> Hard drive. This happened once, so I don't know if it's related, but I better give you this info just in case.
Sometimes, my screen shuts down to black like my computer goes into sleep mode, so far no problem, but then (not systematically) the GPU fans turn to 11 and I can't exit the sleep mode. Only thing left to do is to press the start button of the case and initiate a normal shutdown sequence, and reboot.
I wanted to try something... I removed the sag bracket, and so far no problem.
I diagnose this as a faulty GPU, that may have a physical problem inside that my bracket accentuates by shifting GPU positon. But maybe you guys could have a better idea of what's happening exactly because of your PC wizard knowledge.
Thanks.

2024.05.19 11:39 jaffacakerhubarb How's this budget AM5 ECC build look?

Hi all! I've been putting together a build for a family member to replace their ageing Dell OptiPlex 390 prebuild desktop PC.
It still works broadly fine with their usage, but it's an old system with an Intel i5-2400 3.1GHz, which is a Sandy Bridge CPU from around 2011. It's old enough that it maxes out at Windows 10, among other things, so it's time to get something current and reliable that should be good for another 5+ years at least.
This is most definitely not for gaming — purely a productivity desktop for web browsing, email and video consumption. It might be used for cutting some home video footage once in a blue moon, but that will be so rare that I think going with the integrated GPU on the CPU should be more than enough. If anyone has any thoughts on that front please do say.
I thought for quite a while about AM4 vs AM5, but in the end decided going with the more modern socket in AM5 was the way to go as, should future upgrades ever be needed, this would futureproof the build more than an older socket.
ECC is a big plus for this build, which is what has steered me to the non-G series AMD APUs, which although a bit beefier with their integrated graphics drop ECC support. I know ECC is a bit of a contested topic but as I'm building this for a non-techie user, I think a little extra stability is worth sacrificing some GPU performance. It also means that if extra graphics power is needed, I can just slot a dedicated graphics card at some future point into the build without sacrificing CPU performance with a slightly better iGPU.
I've left RAM off here as PCPartPicker doesn't like ECC RAM, which I'll be getting. Probably 32GB (2x16GB).
Is there anything I've forgotten that I need to include, like fans, etc? Anything I should change? This is my first PC build from scratch so I won't be offended if you point out that I've done something utterly dumb. Thank you!
(Budget is roughly £700, though I'm flexible here if something should be changed/added that's worthwhile. I'm in the UK.)

2024.05.19 11:05 Necessary_Pay_1141 Need help with purchase

Hi all. Im looking for a gaming laptop not so much for gaming (i might dabble with a few games but just smaller indie games, the heaviest game i may play on it will be League of Legends) as i already have a decent gaming PC for this. The main purpose will be to work on creating my games in Unity Engine. I am mainly working on 2D games that are fairly small in comparison other games with large 3d worlds, 3d graphics etc. So nothing too intense.
As i said i currently do the work on my PC however after recently becoming a dad, I dont have as much time to spend in my office room. Hence why i am looking for a laptop to continue my work and still be in the same room as the wife and baby.
I dont have a huge budget so looking around the 600-700 mark ideally. I have seen the ASUS TUF Gaming FX507ZC4 on Amazon for £600 which seems like a good deal.(https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CLLRL4D4/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1) As it only has 8gb of ram i will likely be looking to upgrade this to 16GB but unsure what i need as im seeing conflicting info online, so hopefully you can help me.
Does this laptop have 1 or 2 slots for ram? if 2, can i purchase any 8gb ram and it will work alongside the one already fitted? or is it best i buy 2 fresh sticks of 8GB, or 1 stick of 16Gb? (Its unclear what the max ram this model will allow) So could I buy 2 sticks of 8gb?
with the above upgrades, does this sound like a good laptop to purchase that will run Unity well? or will i be facing problems?
Thank you all in advance :)

2024.05.19 10:52 Dakei Swapped to an Air Cooled Build

Swapped to an Air Cooled Build
My paranoia about liquids and PC components finally struck me, and I moved over to a Thermalright AXP-90 X53 Full Copper. I’m using 2.75 slot mode, so I have 5-6mm of clearance between the fan and side panel; no turbulence so far. Also used this opportunity to install my new custom cables and tidy up the interior space a bit for better air flow.
Compared to my AIO build, this air cooled build definitely runs louder and hotter on the CPU side. I’m hitting my 75C thermal limit while stress testing and I will have to go raise the limit to 85C in the BIOS later.
On the plus side, my GPU temps somehow dropped a whole 7 degrees. At 95-100% utilization, my GPU sits at 61C max. The whole system is about as silent as the AIO build minus the pump noise on start-up. Maintenance should also be vastly easier; the AIO is a pain-in-the-ass to remove.

2024.05.19 09:26 SkyAccomplished7055 Online - character limit

Hey!
Just wanted to ask if there are any hopes Blizzard will increase amount of online characters? Did something like this happen since release?
I am mostly asking, because I’m running out of space, need to sacrifice some mules etc to be able to create a new characters.
Just simple math, Season 6 is ending, for each season you create a new character, probably no one wants to delete the old ones. So 6 characters just from seasons (if someone played since beginning). We have 7 classes (that can have multiple builds). Personally I have already 2 paladins, 2 sorcs, 2 barbarians, let’s say 14 slots (2 per class) and in general you still have more possibilities (e.g. Sorceress Fire/Lightening/Cold which give us 3 slots).
So now 6 + 14 = 20. Everyone has at least one mule for runes, some mule for gems, uniques etc. So with current limit 24 just for the classes and characters from season you have only 4 slots (and even 3 if you want to participate in the season 7).
I know someone can tell „you have offline mode”, but I am mostly console player PS5/Switch, where it’s limited to 30 (as I know).
I believe from dev point of view it’s not taking a lot of space to store user data (characters etc). I understand online should have some limits (maybe?), but offline on consoles shouldn’t (like PC)
What are your thoughts? Can I hope for increase of this topic has been discussed already and no solution?

As an avid card collector, discovering the Pennzoni display card deck display case was a game-changer for me. Before using this case, I can't tell you how many times I've knocked over stacks of playing cards or struggled to see them all at once. But ever since I started using this case, my card collection has never looked better.
The thing that really won me over about this case is its spacious interior. It comfortably holds up to 65-70 decks of cards, and unlike some other cases I've tried, it can handle taller and thicker decks with no problem. Plus, the crystal-clear acrylic door lets me admire my cards without ever touching them - no more smudging or smearing!
However, it's not all perfect with this case. The paint smell was quite strong when I first got it, which was a bit of a turnoff initially. But, after airing it out for a few days, the smell dissipated significantly and my cards are now safely tucked away.
Overall, the Pennzoni display card deck display case is a must-have for any serious collector. It not only provides a sleek and elegant way to display your cards but also offers ample space to keep them organized and protected.

As an avid baseball card collector, I was thrilled to get my hands on the Card Titan Slab Safe. I've been using it to store and protect my valuable PSA graded trading cards, and it has been a game changer. The precise row size of 3.34 inches x 8.25 inches x 4.5 inches deep, which fits up to 36 standard card PSA slabs, has allowed me to keep my collection well-organized and secure.
The quality of the Slab Safe is top-notch, with its aluminum frame, diamond ABS panels, and laser cut foam interior making it more robust than traditional cardboard storage boxes. This extra durability is perfect for safeguarding my prized PSA, BGS, SGC, HGA, and CSG graded trading cards.
In terms of capacity, the Slab Safe does not disappoint, holding up to 108 standard card PSA slabs. However, storage capacity may vary based on the graded card brand and slab thickness, so do keep that in mind.
Security is a top priority for collectors like me, and the Slab Safe delivers in that aspect, featuring two combination locks to ensure only authorized individuals can access my collection. Plus, its rubber feet on the bottom and hinge side prevent sliding and scratching on glass countertops.
If you're a serious collector looking for the best way to store and organize your graded cards, I highly recommend giving the Card Titan Slab Safe a try. It has everything you need - space, protection, and versatility.

As an avid trading card collector, I've tried numerous display options to keep my cards safe and showcase them beautifully. The Grade Displays 3 Card Black is hands down my favorite. This sturdy little stand has a triple layer system that securely holds my cards and the clear acrylic design lets me admire them from every angle. Plus, the hidden metal screw caps give it a seamless and polished look on my wall.
One thing I particularly appreciated is how this stand can effortlessly protect my valuable cards. It has a strong build and the transparent acrylic prevents dust and scratches from damaging them. Additionally, the stand's free-standing design means I can quickly move it around or adjust it to fit any space in my room.
However, there's one downside - the size. It's a bit too small to fit some oversized trading cards. But overall, the Grade Displays 3 Card Black is a fantastic product that every card collector should own. It strikes the perfect balance between functionality and style, making my favorite cards look like pieces of art on my wall.

As a fan of sports and someone who loves collecting baseball cards, I have been using the Fanousy PU Sports Card Display Case for quite some time now. This elegant case is not only a safe haven for my cards but also adds a touch of classic aesthetics to my room's décor.
The first thing that caught my attention is the use of PU leather which is a refreshing change from the regular plastic display cases. It makes handling much easier and gives my cards a velvety touch that's quite comforting.
Another aspect I appreciate about this case is its ability to hold both graded and ungraded cards, making it versatile. The capacity to fit eight cards at once is generous, saving me from constantly swapping out the displayed cards.
One feature that stands out is the 98% UV protection, keeping my valuable cards safe from any potential damage caused by sunlight. Plus, the anti-theft lock ensures peace of mind knowing my favorite cards are securely displayed.
However, there's a bit of a downside - the case does require assembly, which might be a little bit time-consuming for some. But once you get past that hurdle, it's smooth sailing!
In conclusion, the Fanousy Baseball Card Display Case has not only enhanced my collection but also added a unique charm to my room. While assembly can be a small setback, its overall performance and sturdy design make it a worthwhile investment for any serious sports card collector.

I recently got my hands on this marvelous Lockable 36 Graded Sports Card Display Case for Football Baseball Basketball Hockey Cards CC02-BL. I must say, it's been an absolute game-changer in the way I've been organizing and displaying my precious sports card collection. The sheer size of it, measuring 30.5 inches in width, 24.25 inches in height, and just 2 inches in depth, is just what I needed.
The mahogany color and the smooth edges of this hardwood display case bring an air of sophistication to my game room where it proudly hangs. I also appreciate the bevelled shelves that prevent my cards from sliding, providing a secure and snug fit. And let's not forget about the brass hinges, door latches, and wall brackets that make it wall mountable, a feature I didn't realize I needed until I had it.
One of the things that really caught my eye is the super fine fabric mattified black background. It truly elevates the look of my cards, making them stand out in a stunning contrast. Plus, the acrylic door cover has been a life-saver in keeping dust and potential damage at bay.
However, one con I've encountered is that it doesn't come with a lock for added security, which I wish it did especially considering the valuable contents it holds. Overall, this display case has been a fantastic addition to my sports card collection and has made preserving and showcasing my cards a whole lot easier and more secure.

As a baseball card enthusiast, I've always struggled with finding a proper way to keep my collection safe and visible. That's when the Temgee Graded Sports Card Display Case came to my rescue. It's a large, wall-mounted case that comfortably holds 36 graded cards in a neat and organized manner.
Its black matte finish gives it a sophisticated appearance, making my home office look like a dedicated sports card room. The outer dimensions of the case are impressive at 30.5" x 24.3" x 2.1", providing ample space to display my most treasured cards. The inner dimensions are thoughtfully designed to fit the standard graded sports card sizes perfectly.
The use of wooden frames and acrylic view glasses adds both durability and visibility to the case. I don't have to worry about my cards getting damaged or accumulating dust, as the brass hinges, door latches, and wall brackets keep everything secure and the acrylic door cover protects my collection.
However, one downside I noticed is the weight. At 12.8 LBS, it's quite heavy, which might make it difficult for some people to mount on the wall. But overall, the Temgee Graded Sports Card Display Case has made my card-collecting hobby even more enjoyable, providing a safe and elegant space to showcase my favorite sports cards.

That's when I stumbled upon the DisplayGifts Pro UV 44 Graded Sports Card Display Case. This sleek, black-finished frame is not your average display case. It boasts a solid wood structure that speaks volumes about its durability and sturdiness, making it a perfect companion for my valuable cards.
What really caught my eye about this display case is the UV protection offered by its super clear acrylic door. This is a game-changer for me as it ensures my cards remain safe from any potential damage caused by sunlight. The door opens upwards with top hinges, preventing the case from toppling over while I'm admiring my collection.
One of the best features I've come to love about this case is the lip on each shelf. It keeps my cards firmly in place, avoiding any unwanted sliding that could lead to scratches or damage. Plus, it's incredibly easy to set up - no fuss, no tools, just unpack and start displaying your cards!
Another standout aspect is its size. The 37-inch width is perfect for showcasing a variety of cards with different dimensions. It's important to note, though, that only cards no taller than 5.5 inches will fit, so make sure to measure up your cards before making a purchase.
All in all, the DisplayGifts Pro UV 44 Graded Sports Card Display Case is a brilliant addition to any collector's arsenal, offering both style and protection. Its unique features make it stand out from the crowd, and I can't recommend it enough for anyone seeking a safe and elegant way to showcase their beloved trading and sports cards.

I recently purchased the Pennzoni Baseball Card Display Case to spruce up my growing sports card collection. This display case has been an absolute game-changer for me, and it's evident that it was crafted with precision.
The meticulous hardwood construction elevates any display space, and its elegant color options make it easy to customize according to your personal style. Its primary function, however, shines brightest - this case comfortably secures up to 35 graded cards, ensuring that your valuable collection stays safe and sound.
I was particularly impressed by the crystal-clear acrylic door and UV protection, which not only provide a visually stunning presentation but also protect my valuable cards from fading. To top it off, the lockable feature ensures that my collection is secure at all times.
Despite these fantastic features, one aspect felt slightly underwhelming. The extra hardware for horizontal setup wasn't readily available; however, customer service promptly resolved this issue. Overall, the Pennzoni Baseball Card Display Case has made a significant impact on my sports card collection, transforming it into a beautiful, secure focal point.

As a baseball card collector, I've been on the lookout for the perfect display case to showcase my prized possessions. Enter the Pennzoni Baseball Card Display Case, a handcrafted hardwood beauty that truly makes my cards shine. With 36 graded spots for various types of cards – from Pokemon to NASCAR to basketball – this case has room for all my favorites.
What I particularly love about this case is its meticulous polish and elegant black color, which easily complements any decor. The crystal-clear acrylic door safeguards my cards from fading and damage, so I can rest assured knowing that my collection will always look its best. Plus, with the option to add extra hardware for a horizontal setup, it's versatile enough to suit my changing needs.
However, one small drawback is the weight of this case. At 16 pounds, it might be a bit cumbersome to move around easily. But overall, the Pennzoni Baseball Card Display Case not only elevates the look of my cards but also provides a safe space to protect and admire my collection.

🔗Durable and Clear Card Display Case Set (5-Pack)

As an avid fan of collecting sports cards, I've been searching for the perfect case to display and protect my prized possessions. Enter the Display Card Cases from The Container Store. I was curious about these cases, given their simple yet effective design. Upon receiving them, I was excited to see how they would perform.
The first thing I noticed upon holding the cases was their rigidity and sturdiness. Made of high-quality acrylic, these cases provide a sense of security for my valued cards. The snap-open feature is incredibly convenient for quick access, yet the cases close securely to keep my cards in pristine condition.
However, there was a minor hitch in my experience. One of the five cases in my package didn't fit together as tightly as the others, and it opened a bit too easily. It was a small issue, but it did concern me about the quality control. Fortunately, the other four cases in the pack snapped perfectly, providing the protection and ease of use I was looking for.
In conclusion, the Display Card Cases from The Container Store are mostly effective in their purpose. They offer the necessary durability and convenience for card collectors. The only area of improvement would be to ensure consistent quality across all cases in a package. But overall, these cases deliver and make a worthy investment for any card collector.

I received it as a wedding gift and it's become an essential piece of home decor. Made of handcrafted brass, this sturdy piece has a vintage and eye-catching appearance that's sure to add charm to any room. The reinforced glass also ensures that it's safe and doesn't break easily, which I truly appreciate.
One of my favorite features is the swing lid, making it perfect for centerpieces or flower arrangements. Its sleek gold geometric shape adds a contemporary twist while still feeling timelessly elegant. Plus, it's large enough to hold up to 100 pcs of regular 4x6 cards, ensuring there's plenty of space for all your well-wishers' notes.
Overall, I am absolutely in love with this gold terrarium card box. While it may be a little heavy due to its glass and brass construction, the added security of knowing your precious memories are safely stored inside more than compensates. This statement piece is not only practical but also beautifully crafted, making it a must-have for anyone looking to add a touch of style to their home or office.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to collecting cards, displaying them is just as important as acquiring them. Card display cases not only protect your cards from environmental damage and wear, but also showcase your collection in a professional manner. In this buyer's guide, we will explore the important features, considerations, and general advice for choosing the right card display case for your needs. Firstly, consider the material of the display case. Cases made from high-quality materials, such as acrylic or polycarbonate, offer better protection and durability than those made from cheaper materials like PVC. Ensure that the case you choose is UV-resistant, especially if you plan to expose your collection to natural light sources. Secondly, pay attention to the size and design of the display case. Make sure it suits your collection's size and style, as well as the available space in your display area. Cases with adjustable compartments are ideal for accommodating various card sizes and formats. Also, consider transparent or opaque options based on your personal preferences and privacy requirements. Thirdly, take into account the mounting options offered by different cases. Some cases may come with built-in stands or wall mounts, while others may require additional hardware or DIY solutions. Choose a case that provides versatile and secure mounting options to suit your display requirements and ensure your cards remain in place without causing any damage. Lastly, consider the overall quality and brand reputation. Opting for well-known and reputable brands can guarantee better performance, longevity, and customer support. Read reviews or seek recommendations from fellow collectors to make sure you're getting a high-quality, reliable display case for your valuable cards. In conclusion, choosing the right card display case involves considering factors like material quality, size and design, mounting options, and brand reputation. By prioritizing these aspects, you can showcase your collection with pride and protect your valuable cards for years to come.

  3. Apply gentle, even pressure to the back of the card, pushing it firmly but carefully into the case until it clicks in place
  4. Close the case securely and check that the card is firmly seated within the case without any wiggle room

What is the proper way to clean and maintain card display cases?

Clean and maintain your card display cases by following these guidelines:
  1. Keep your cases away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures
  2. Dust the exterior surfaces of your cases with a soft, lint-free cloth
  3. For persistent dirt or grime, use a mild solution of water and dish soap, then gently clean the area with a damp cloth
  4. Dry your cases thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth to prevent moisture buildup or streaks

How can I secure and lock my card display cases?

Many card display cases come with built-in security features, such as key locks or screw-down latches. To secure your cases, follow the manufacturer's instructions and use the appropriate tools (e. g. , a screwdriver) to tighten or lock the case securely. For added protection, consider storing your display cases in a locked cabinet or display case, or invest in a security system for your collection area.

Can I use display cases for other collectibles besides cards?

Yes, card display cases can be adapted for various collectibles, such as coins, buttons, or stamps. However, make sure the case dimensions and material quality are suitable for the particular type of collectible you plan to display, and always store and handle your collectibles with care to avoid damage.

2024.05.19 07:30 ExcessiveUser0 GPU won’t turn on after Fed Ex shipping

So I shipped my pc using Fed Ex (I now know that’s a big no no) and when I got it back I noticed the GPU (4070 ti) was out of the slot. I immediately took it out completely and removed the power connection. The GPU slot was noticeably chipped and scratched on one corner.
Turning on my pc works, but my case fan lights don’t turn on, though my ram ones do. The GPU spins its fans for a few seconds but no lights. This is the case before removing it, and in other slots that it hasn’t been in before. I should note that I had these same things happen when I installed the GPU months ago, and that was due to lack of powewrong driveother things.
Can anyone atleast tell me if the GPU is still working/fixable since the fans came on for a few seconds

2024.05.19 07:26 fnboof TL LCD Fans decide when they want to boot

Fans pop up in device manager but not in L-Connect. This is the 3rd time this happens and I got this pc about a week ago. When I boot, fans spin and light turns on but then turn off in a few seconds with LCD turning on. Once I turn off the computer for 30min+ and turn it back on, fans start working normally. USB connected directly into the mobo and fans connected into slot 2 on the controller. Does anyone know why this is happening?

[Switch Version] Cannot for the life of me figure out how to place abilities in slots!
I’ve tried following the instructions on the tooltip, and even mashed every goddamn button on the controller, yet despite there being an open slot, and a point to spend, I cannot figure out why on earth it isn’t working! Does anyone have any helpful advice? Everything that I have found online thus far is either for PC or PlayStation, nothing has worked and nothing is of any use!

2024.05.19 05:01 techfl12 14700 65w TDP Build for CS grad

Posting for my daughter who recently graduated from university and she wants to build her first pc. Up until now she's been using mobile tablet/laptop device with 3060 GPU. She's not a big gamer but does enjoy Minecraft and mods and wants to move to a desktop. Her specific mods work best with Nvidia GPU so that is a core requirement.
Beyond gaming on this build she will be doing some coding/compiling, maybe some 3D modeling/rendering stuff, etc. Her preferences are quiet (doesn't need to be "Silent" but aiming for not noisy, and prefer not to hear fans ramping up/down all the time). I'd prefer it not to be a power hog, efficiency is a preference of mine nothing extreme but leaning on quiet vs noisy and willing to spend a little extra to that end. Water cooling is something I do NOT want to mess with at this time. We will probably pair the build with 2x 27" QHD 144Hz monitors but they do not need to be spec'd out here.
Budget is ~$16xx all core elements (CPU, MB, RAM, Storage, GPU, Case, PSU, etc). We don't need to budget the peripherals, OS License, nor monitors. I prefer no-rebates in the budget. Budget is flexible within reason. We live in USA but nowhere near a Microcenter (maybe one coming later this year but not an option otherwise).
I am agnostic on AMD vs Intel, I personally run AMD but she's been using Intel for a few years so my first pass I've gone that route. 14700 Build
---Why I made some choices---
CPU: Picked Intel 14700 since it's 65W TDP and 20cores for $399. I figure it'll be fine for all above and should run a little more efficiently than the 14700K but perhaps that's simply a bios option in the K series to make it run at 65W TDP instead of 125W (I need to research)?
Motherboard: Picked MSI because I've had good luck lately with them. I'm open to other options but definitely want latest chipset for DDR5 and 4 memory slots for expansion later if desired. Don't need tons of fancy stuff, don't need many PCIe slots. Having more than one NVME is desired. Wifi is preferred but we'll run 1Gb ethernet to her room for this project.
GPU: Went with 4070 for extra RAM and approx price point. Otherwise could be swayed to go +/- depending on folks input here. Again, AMD series GPU's are not an option for this build.
Case: I picked one with RGB / Glass Panel and an optional Optical Disc drive spot. She wants to fool around with some old games we have on CDROM and while I can connect a USB Drive I figure having the option for an internal one will make her happy. I like a case that's easy to work in/on, doesn't feel flimsy, and cools efficiently. Otherwise I'm flexible here.
Storage: Definitely an NVME Drive, 2TB preferred. I prefer one with DRAM/onboard cache. Prefer reputable brand and reliability, but recognize that changes so open to options here. Might add a second NVME down the road. I've had good luck with samsung and AData but recognize both have had some models with issues in the past.
PSU: Prefer 80+ Gold and Quality here. Name brands/reliability preferred over saving a few bucks. Don't imagine we'll be upgrading to an 80 or 90 series GPU so don't think we'll need more power now. I like the modular ones.

2024.05.19 04:58 MoistChicken24 Nothings working and I’m confused

So this is a relatively new pc about 2 months old, i was playing borderlands 3 the other night and after entirely to long of playing the game (8hours) the game crashed with a fatal error. I validated the files on steam and it came back as the “corrupt update files” error.
After that all my games seemed to fatal error crash and have corrupted files, so I assumed it was a problem with that specific drive (4tb SSD plugged into my 2nd M.2 slot I have my games download on).
I deleted all my games off that drive and redownloaded one of them on my built in hard drive and it crashes all the time (not with fatal error) and when I validate the game files it doesn’t error. However when I check the content log in the steam folder it shows there is a corrupt file.
Now I’m worried I have either a virus or corrupt system files, so I went to open system file checker and for some reason it doesn’t open, also when I run the CHKDSK command it doesn’t work. I tried scanning the entire pc for viruses and it came up with nothing.
I checked all my drivers, everything’s up to date, and I’m at a loss. The pc hasn’t suffered any falls or breaks, and I checked the hardware and made sure everything is plugged in and working and I still can’t figure out why things are corrupting.
To me it would make sense that the secondary drive I bought may be failing but things are corrupting on the built in to from what I can see. So far I can only tell that games are corrupting, I don’t know if anything else is, cause the system scans aren’t working.
Sorry I know it’s a lot, if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Also I have a RTX 4060Ti and an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 with 64gb of ram if specs would help for whatever reason.

2024.05.19 04:57 ILYSEVRR 5 monitors on 1 pc

I’m planning on getting a cockpit with a triple monitor setup and connecting it to my current pc. I already have 2 monitors connected to my gpu both taking up display port slots. My gpu has 3 display port slots and 1 hdmi slot. I’m wondering what would be the best way to set everything up. Would I need a display port splitter? Also how would that effect the refresh rates if I did use one? I can also use my CPU’s integrated graphics for my second monitor if I really need to but I would rather not.

2024.05.19 03:53 jaslaras PC not booting, VGA light

PC not booting, VGA light
I went through this with ASUS support probably 10+ times now but they each gave me different advice and it’s honestly left me confused.
My GPU has had a red light on even when I turn on the PC, and the motherboard has its white VGA light (qled) on (as well as the green Boot light on). When turning on the PC, the orange (RAM) and red (CPU) lights flash but then turn off if that means anything. My monitor says “No signal” and will not display anything. I tried resetting BIOS by holding down my dell/F1 key but my monitor is not getting a signal from the PC.
I received a replacement for my gpu (same model) and the issue persisted. I reached out to ASUS and they said:
ASUS TECH SUPPORT: • 1st person: Said my CPU is incompatible with my motherboard according to the cpu support, but my CPU is in fact listed there • 2nd person: Said my RAM is incompatible with my motherboard according to memory support, but my concern is that the black version of my RAM is in the list, but the white version (which is what I have) is NOT in the list… • 3rd person: Said they don’t know if the white version makes a difference, suggested updating BIOS but ultimately said I should send my motherboard to ASUS for repair
I plan on sending my motherboard to ASUS but I’m on day 22 since I bought my parts and Neweggs warranty for returns/replacements is up to 30 days.
MAIN QUESTIONS: 1) Is there anything else I should consider returning, replacing or investigating while my warranty isn’t up yet? (ie. about either my RAM or CPU as a precaution)
2) AND should I swap my white RAM for the black version since the white one doesn’t appear in the memory compatibility list for my motherboard or is that difference negligible?
TROUBLESHOOTING I TRIED: • replaced pcie cable (power supply one) with spare • reseated the GPU multiple times to ensure it was placed all the way in and correctly • ensured power supply cables were pushed all the way in and in correct places • reset CMOS by taking out the battery, holding a metal screwdriver between the pins, and placing the battery back • took out 1 out of my 2 RAM sticks as per ASUS troubleshooting • monitor works bc i’m able to use it with my laptop as as dual monitor, and yes the HDMI cable is plugged into the right place in the monitor and the GPU’s HDMI slot • CPU pins are not bent as far as I’m aware, I have not checked but I didn’t force it in • replacement GPU (same model)
SPECS: • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI 6E Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) Ryzen 7000 gaming motherboard(12 + 2 power stages, DDR5, three M.2 slots, PCIe 4.0, 2.5G LAN, WiFi 6E, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, and Aura Sync RGB )

  • The serial that does NOT appear in the list and only difference is a “W” at the end of it (my current RAM): CMH32GX5M2E6000C36W
• Power Supply: CORSAIR RMx Series (2021) RM850x CP-9020200-NA 850 W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power Supply
tl;dr: PC is turning on, and all the parts do as well when booting. However, my monitor says “No signal” and I’m unable to use my PC. ASUS asked to return my motherboard for repairs, also brought up concerns with my RAM or CPU and am wondering if I should replace those before my warranty ends in < 10 days just in case. Also welcoming any troubleshooting tips if anyone else has ever had this issue. First time I set up a PC so everything is brand new.
