2024.05.15 02:10 Quillo_Asura VR&E Question

Is this program feasible (or even allowed) for someone who travels very often for work? Does it allow for mostly / entirely remote learning? I am not concerned with gaining/losing BAH, sure it is nice to have - but not on my list of things to have. My goal is to work toward an MHA.
I am rated and have a few days of unused CH31 benefits remaining. I have all my pre-nursing courses (an AA) completed but an accident, surgeries, and recovery have me reconsidering a 12+ hour standing career (even if there are other areas of nursing, generally you work up to it) with my previous injuries and this accident that further impacted them.
For my current work, I am sent to healthcare facilities to perform corporate level audits, provide training as necessary, and I create and implement corrective action plans when things are dire. Most of my travel is a Mon - Fri thing, but occasionally I may have to stay longer for the worst cases, ensuring the corrections are effective or if a facility is requesting a site-to-site move, I assist in pre- and post-move planning and execution to ensure all local and federal laws and regulations are followed and they can get up and running as quickly and smoothly as possible. This means I do a lot of work from hotel rooms or conference rooms.

2024.05.15 02:10 wi1dfl0wers My partner wants to move to Canada, but doing so will negatively impact my financial goals.

Some background:
I feel like everyone is going to say that I should pick a partner who has similar financial goals, and it must seem that he and I don't based on this situation but we otherwise really do: we are both frugal and interested in FIRE. It's just that we have different financial backgrounds:
What should I do? And Canadians, is it worth it? Am I thinking about this wrong?

Quiet and reclusive by nature, Jasper often keeps to himself, and tries to limit every interaction he has to the absolute minimum. Having a shrewd mind, he doesn't waste words or reveal more about himself or his goals than what he deems necessary. Being stubborn and a boy of focus, Jasper's resolve never wavers when he sets his mind on something, even in the face of uncertainty.
His silence shields the depths of his emotions and thoughts, but beneath it lies a burning determination fueled by a desire for vengeance and retaliation against the injustices he sees and the grudges he holds. It is this relentless pursuit of retribution that drives him forward, and it can't be extinguished by doubt or fear. Jasper walks a solitary path, but the boy is haunted by loneliness and is unsure of where he belongs in the world.

Right Now:

As Jasper stepped off the bus, the cacophony of New York City assaulted his senses, a stark contrast to the serene solitude of the Pacific Northwest. He had traveled far, leaving behind his entire life... Most kids would be afraid, or at the very least hesitant. But not him. With a heavy backpack slung over his shoulder, he started navigating the bustling streets with quiet determination, making his way to Camp Half-Blood.
A taxi ride and a bit of walking later, Jasper could see Half-Blood Hill ahead, the entrance to a sanctuary hidden away from the chaos of the world. Jasper's heart quickened as he approached, but he stopped briefly and took a deep breath. He wouldn't let his anticipation change his demeanor, not in the slightest.
He had been told about this place: a haven for demigods like himself, where they could find refuge and belonging. He sought neither, but for his purposes, a place like this would do just fine. With a resolute step forward, Jasper braced himself for whatever lay ahead, knowing that this is where his journey would truly begin.

2024.05.15 01:56 Loud_Run7443 have no idea where to commit

I'm super conflicted on what school to commit to. I'd really appreciate anyone's insight cuz I've been just been flipping back and forth between the schools.
My end goal is to go to medical school.
SCHOOL 1: Close but Big School
Pros: Close to home, better financially (can live at home + have better financial aid), higher "prestige" (my family cares abt this part more than me)
Cons: Intense grade deflation, hard courses, much larger courses (first year courses are in the high hundreds to thousands)
TLDR; my main worry is that the intense grade deflation will prevent me from being a competitive applicant for medical school. I know it's possible for a lot of people to make it though...
SCHOOL 2: BS/MD Program at further university
Pros: Basically guaranteed entry to medical school
Cons: Farther away from home; will cost me more money since I'll have to live on res for the next 6 years
TLDR; it seems like the better choice for my "career future."
My Main Concern: I'm generally very conflicted about School 2 because my grandma was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. If I go to a further university, I won't be able to visit her very often and I don't want to regret not spending time with her when I could've. I know my grandma wouldn't want me to prioritize her over my "future," but I feel like if I could still get into medical school going to School 1, I'd regret not staying closer to home to be with her for longer....but I don't know.
Any advice would be appreciated!!!

2024.05.15 01:55 tsblackrain MBA to increase earning

I've been doing some career planning, and thinking about pursuing a part time MBA for to increase my job marketability as I get older and also to increase my earning potential.
I'm a 39/M working as a Sr. IT Manager in the Bay Area. I make $160k. I've got 20 years of experience in the field in mostly service desk and IT operations. I feel like I'll probably cap out around $190k in the next few years. I'm targeting $300k as my goal right now.
As I've researched, the consultant route seems to be a common one and one where I could make a lot of money. I don't mind very frequent traveling, as my kids are already out of the house. I do want to stay in the SF area or possibly LA area as base though.
I graduated college 10 years ago and will likely need to devote at least 6 months to study to get a competitive GMAT score? I took a couple practice tests, and my verbal was very good (average 41) but my math very poor (average 15).
Does it make sense for me to pursue the MBA? Is my goal of $300k comp realistic within 2-3 years of graduation?

2024.05.15 01:49 Weary_Prize_5417 36 [M4F] #Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Looking for my other (younger) half

Hi! I hope you like bad boys because I am really bad at this.
I'm a pretty laid back guy that is just looking for his partner in crime. Well, let's not do too much crime. Like, we've gotta pay our taxes and stuff. You don't want the IRS coming after you.
Silliness, a sense of humor, kindness, respect, and passion are all the keys to my heart. Give me your best dad joke and I'll probably fall in love with you.
I like to joke around and have fun, but I also do my fair share of adulting (albeit begrudgingly). Life's no fun without a roof over your head or food on your table. So, I do have my own house and vehicle as well a stable career. I'm not rich by any measure, but I have a comfortable and peaceful life.
You should also have your own passions, goals, and dreams! I'm not saying you should have an amazing career and the next 10 years dutifully mapped out or anything crazy (though kudos if you do). However, you should have your own amazing life outside of our relationship. I want to hear all about your passions, aspirations, goals, dreams, everything. I will be there to congratulate you on all of your victories and hold you tightly through all of your failures.
Honest communication is extremely important as well. Not just with how often we communicate, but how we do so as well. Let's enrich each other's lives by talking, sharing our dreams, stating our desires, and being there for each other. We don't have to be available for each other 24/7, but it's important to have full conversations every once in a while so that we can continue to grow our relationship together. Only texting a sentence ever couple of days is a great way to let your family know you're thinking about them, but it's not going to build a new relationship.
I'm really busy, but I'll make the time for you if you can do the same for me.
If you've actually managed to make it all the way through my unnecessarily long post, then you're amazing! Thank you so much for reading all of this! Now stop reading and send me a DM already 😝
P.S. Please only reach out if you're local. Pen pals are great and all, but I'm looking for a real in person relationship.

2024.05.15 01:33 Artificer_Thoreau Praise for my Demon Team

Well, it looks like things are right in the edge of working out! At the end of last May I was in the worst mental, and emotional health of my life. My physical health was soon to follow the downward spiral.
Thanks to this subreddit and a couple choice others, I’ve been able to use Demonolatry to dig my way out. I just had my second interview for an IT position at a RAD company (Hail Bune!) less than a week after passing my A+ Certification Exams (Hail Paimon!) and I’ve been able to make it all possible with near daily walking meditations (Hail Barbatos!)!
For those who have difficulty with ritual and are looking for something more intuitive, I highly suggest doing your invocation and/or evocation work during morning or evening walks.
Things REALLY kicked off when I added lightweight Mugdar or “Indian clubs” to the walks. They feel like I can wield a lot more “power” and channel them into my banishments and rituals. All while walking around my neighborhood and getting some shoulder exercise and mobility in. Moving the body send to really get the magical and occult juices flowing.
All of this is in thanks to my team. They’ve been lining things up and helping me get to where I can grab hold of the strings of fate again.
Hail Barbatos, the one who’s always got my back when it comes to the physical and the grounding. Almost feeling “strong” again.
Hail Bune, who always guides me to the path that is of the most beneficial and in line with my goals. They always know what I need.
Hail King Paimon, who has allowed me to push my mental capacity past what is considered “normal” or even reasonable. I’ve been able to use that type of intellect magic for years, but with him it’s been much less destructive.
Now I just wait until Friday to see if my plan to switch careers at 39 years old in under a year comes to fruition. If my team has anything to say about it, this job is in the bag!!!

2024.05.15 01:32 RickyRazor1104 Talent Management at its finest

Over the last several years, I’ve read and heard about several strategies to better quantify quality NCO’s and pinpoint the best job for the best person.
I’ve spent my first 12 years in the Army in combat arms units as a support MOS and flourished. I’ve accomplished many goals inside my own MOS and even some more outside my job scope.
I made SFC in 10 years and MSG in 15. After year 12, Army decided to send me to TRADOC, where I felt helpless. I hated what I was doing and felt under utilized and needed to get away from it. I decided to put a TWI packet in and got selected. Now finishing up my utilization assignment (TRADOC), I just got out of marketplace and put on assignment. I am not happy with any of the options so contacted branch and volunteered for any 18th Airborne Corps unit.
Branch told me they couldn’t do anything for me. So my options were all OCONUS, which I don’t want to retire OCONUS so didn’t pick those, a medical brigade and an aviation unit. I chose the latter and got it. Contacted the unit and was told that there is pretty much no movement there and I’ll just be on BDE staff. There is only one MTOE’ed 1SG position there and it’s being filled one month before I arrive.
I’m not on profile, proficient in my MOS, have an ESB, SLIC, Air Assualt, Sec+, crew master gunner, 3 combat tours, Masters degree, and still motivated…
Coming up on 17 years and fell I’ll never get a 1SG position (although I won’t stop trying).
I just feel like the Army should manage their talent a little better. Put me in 82nd or 101st and work the shit out of me like I want to be worked. End my career on a high note. But, no…go waste away in a dump.
TYFYS.

2024.05.15 01:29 Opposite-Grab-1593 A beautiful reminder of the power a teacher has to change someone's life.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MHGw1v8tcO0
Sydney Pigden's father was a milkman who fought in WWI and didn't have much money. Both parents died when he was 15, forcing him to drop out of school (despite being top of his class) to find work.
His former headmaster was determined he get an education and funded him through evening classes, allowing him to get his school certificate.
Sydney became a spitfire pilot in the RAF and fought in WWII aged just 17. After the war he married Aileen, a girl he met at a dance when stationed in Scotland and they had a son, who died shortly after birth. Aileen died in 1968 when he was just 46.
Sydney became a teacher in 1949 and ended up teaching at Turnham junior school for 30 years. Later in life he donated his RAF mementoes to the Shoreham Aircraft Museum.
Ian Wright grew up in a violent home. His dad was absent, his mother was alcoholic and his step-dad was abusive.
Because of this, he was a difficult child at Turnham junior school. However, his teacher Mr Pigden taught him to read and write, "but most importantly how to keep calm and communicate with people instead of just flying off the handle".
Sydney took young Ian under his wing and taught him discipline and respect, saying that if he was naughty he wouldn't get to play football. He gave Ian responsibilities like being milk monitor and collecting the register from the teachers, something that made Ian feel valued and important.
Sydney was also Ian's first football coach and would encourage him not to blast the ball, but pass it into the net, "like Jimmy Greaves". Ian called it "a piece of advice that stayed with me my whole career".
Ian Wright went on to become Arsenal's top scorer in their 100+ year history with 185 goals, only surpassed later on by the legendary Thierry Henry.
When WWII ended, Sydney was chosen to do the WWII Victory celebration fly-past over Buckingham Palace, aged only 23. Despite this, he said that the proudest moment of his life was seeing Ian play football for England.
Sydney Charles Pigden died on Dec 27, 2017. Ian Wright unveiled an honorary plaque for Sydney at Turnham junior school to highlight his life and the importance of mentorship. Ian said getting to unveil the plaque commemorating Mr Pigden was "the greatest thing I've ever done in my life, to the greatest man in the world."

2024.05.15 01:25 Spongebob_onacid Should I take up Periodontics

I have given my neet this year and might get into perio or non clinical subjects in my home state from what I have gathered by checking rank cutoffs from last year. My goal is to finish mds and go back to saudi arabia to my spouse. Currently Ministry of health in saudi arabia does not allow new registration of indian dentists without any masters as indian BDS is 5.5 years in contrast to saudi dentistry which is 6 years. So I cannot work in Riyadh without my masters. My spouse is well settled in saudi and less likely to relocate anywhere else as of now.So its either finish mds and work in saudi or stay in saudi and not work at all as I dont want to be in a long distance relationship forever. So mds is my only option to have any kind of career.
My fellow dentist friends in ksa have told me its better to take up orthodontics or endodontics to practice in saudi as perio is very risky as it is mainly surgical procedures and saudis (no offense ,indian patients are difficult to please too) are very particular about treatment and will not take postoperative pain or discomfort(pretty common) lightly. Put language barrier into the mix, I know basic arabic , reading and writing and small talk as i was brought up here and i am planning to take classes to learn arabic.
I am confused whether i should take up perio or prepare one more year for neet and try my luck next year and get into ortho. I am already in my thirties and do not wish to waste more years . Also neet is highly competitive and there is no guarantee i can make a significant change in rank or score.Should I take my chance and join for perio this year ? What do you all think ? Do you guys know succesful periodontists already working in gcc

i’m a public middle school english teacher. i’m currently finishing my third year teaching, which means i started teaching in 2021, the first year after the covid shutdown. my first year was really difficult: i hated my job because i was too stressed, it started leaking into other parts of my life until i became passively suicidal. it’s been frustrating for me to deal with the extent of student behavior day in and day out, having to deliver standards-based content to students who are not remotely at level, the incompetence of my school and district leaders, what sometimes feels like a toxic environment among certain attitudes at work, etc. with therapy, time, and experience, my last two years have not been as bad as the first. even so, i never wanted to teach kids this young. before i became a teacher, i worked for two years at an after school program with elementary kids and also as a tuto aide with high school kids, so it wasn’t that i didn’t have “experience,” necessarily. after these initial years teaching, i know a few things for sure: i enjoy teaching, i’m very knowledgeable about my subject area, and my students love me.
i intend to continue working in education for a very long time, if not forever, and so i have some career goals. first, i want to teach high school students at my home district, and second, i want to get my doctorate (i already have my master’s) so i can design curriculum in the VERY far future. i’m not in a rush to get to the latter, as i do love being a teacher and know i still have so much to learn before i get there, but i work in a state that compensates teachers well and compensates for having a higher education degree, so it just makes sense to do it.
i regret telling my colleagues that i had applied to work at my home district a couple of months ago because now i keep hearing, “it’s the same shit everywhere you go, might as well stay where you know the shit.” except my district superintendent is currently on admin leave and i work at the most dysfunctional school within that district. everyone in the district makes fun of our school: we have the lowest test scores, highest suspension rates, the revolving door of principals that can’t get shit right (despite us having 3+ administrators since i got here), etc. my coworkers are nice enough, but they spend a lot of time complaining about the kids, being butthurt and vindictive towards other coworkers, and just overall being negative (at least, most of the people i hang around with). now, the english department is perhaps the only department at my site that works pretty cohesively and has moved our test scores up, so i understand what my colleagues are upset about: lots of the time, they’re just frustrated at the way our leaders run (or don’t bother with) our school, the way shit doesn’t make sense here, etc. it’s the struggle of trying to be competent and effective within a system that doesn’t support you doing just that. i relate to what they feel, but i have found that negativity bleeding into other parts of my life and have found myself talking shit, being overly critical, and overall being a negative person to be around as of late, even outside of work. i just hate who i’m becoming, and i don’t think it’s the kids that are wearing on me.
my home district is not necessarily immune to any of this, since it is still in a poor area with similar issues. it’s my community, and i became a teacher to make an impact on what becomes of it. however, i talk to my old high school teachers who i’ve remained close to, and to my friends and school cohort members who are at other districts/ teaching other grade levels, and it doesn’t sound like they’re struggling with the sheer magnitude of shit i have to shovel through daily. i know there are issues that pervade pretty much all title I schools no matter where they are, and that high school problems are another beast that must be dealt with. but is it wrong to want more from where i currently am? is it really “the same shit” everywhere i go? how do you all survive the daily drudgery?

2024.05.15 00:56 Klutzy_Reality_7117 Planning to move to LA in 2 years

Here’s my backstory:
I’m a college musician in Ohio set to graduate in 2026 with a music education degree. I have a good foundation of musical experience that includes: 8 years of percussion performance, 7 years of theatre performance, 5 years of choral performance, 2 years of teaching experience, 2 years of piano, proficiency on wind instruments, and I can compose music well. Now, I have always had dreams of teaching strictly percussion and performing on side, but I was always told by family and friends to wait and take a band directing job first. This is what most people do, except where I live people get stuck teaching at a high school for the rest of their lives and always talk about these “goals” of getting out of it. What I’m trying to say is I want the percussing teaching and performing to start my career and not just be an afterthought.
Now, I want to move to or near LA because it’s full of the arts, from movies and theatrical arts, to lots of private studios for any instrument or passion you desire. I would make sure I have a sustainable job and apartment set in stone before I’d make the move, but I feel like I could really thrive and grow as I have a good foundation full of credible music experience that I shouldn’t let go to waste. Risk is the name of the game. I’d rather have to work incredible hard every single day than settle, and I’m very set with my goals and don’t want to waste my life wishing I did it differently.
Any thoughts?

2024.05.15 00:38 Sure_Estimate_6239 What are my job options if I am no longer pre-med?

Long story short I started college premed (im a biopsych major) and junior year I decided I didn't want to do it anymore. Parents were not happy with this decision and made me stick to it despite my failing mental health and grades (they just told me to try harder 💀). Due to this my grades are not good enough for medschool, and I need a job after I graduate this fall because my parents now say they are going to kick me out (due to no longer pursuing their goal of medicine). Due to being pre-med, I only briefly looked into marketing and comp-sci careers, but didnt take many classes (didn't think i could handle marketing with my courseload since I explored comp-sci). I also dont have much experience, besides being a sales associate in high school, which makes finding a job difficult.
I just need advice on what my career options are/where to go for job that will fully support me when I move out. I know many biopsych majors go into the field of health care, which I'm not completely opposed to if it pays well. I did intro to comp-sci so i have basic c++ knowledge (I got the feeling of quitting premed 2nd semester sophmore year so I tried CS first semester junior year). However, I don't see myself doing programming as a permanent job.
I just feel stuck because I'm graduating soon and it feels like no one will hire me. I've been applying to several entry-level marketing careers, but it feels like I am going to be rejected due to having no marketing classes compared to other applicants that do.

2024.05.15 00:12 Significant_Pass_396 How does my plan look?

Hi folks, would appreciate a sanity check and see if there's anything I'm missing, or if you'd do anything differently.
About me:
31 years old, DINK. HCOL city.
My job income is 180k. Hoping this will rise to over 200k within a year.
My net worth is 870k, comprised of:
Very cash heavy right now as I'm considering buying out what's left on my partner's house (~400k) before the mortgage renews at a high interest rate. If I do this I'd keep a large emergency fund of 50-100k in easy access savings accounts and GICs, and dump whatever is left into XEQT.
My outgoings last year were 75k, which I realize is a lot. I'm aiming to reduce them this year to around 60k.
Plan / goals:
How does this all look to you? What would you do in my situation? Thanks for reading.
Edit: all numbers are in today's dollars
