This is mostly a rant, but if anyone has any words of encouragement or wisdom/camaraderie, those are welcome too. Even if I don't respond right away, I definitely appreciate them and the time you took. I know I'm shouting into the void here, but it's safer than venting on Facebook (which is exactly what she wants so that she can boohoo some more).
Cliff Note's Backstory:
I gave my mother 30-odd years of my life, living with her, catering to her every emotional need, taking care of her financially (even dropping out of a 4-year typical college-dorm life to go to community college to pay for our mutual rent and keep her company), giving up any thought of a social life with peers or family (every time I'd get close to someone, she'd drive a wrench between us somehow), and I finally had enough in my early 30s. I met a wonderful tolerant man who withstood her trying to come between us, he and I found her an affordable apartment and even took care of all the moving arrangements for her to get her out of MY house and into the apartment, then we got married and we moved several states away.

Even when she moved out, she would text me AT LEAST twice a day (copying to Facebook messenger sometimes, so make that x4/day at least) and if I didn't/don't respond within a suitable timeframe for her, she'll spam me with a flurry of texts, messages, and sometimes voicemails getting increasingly hysterical, demanding, and/or angry. One time, when I was working an in-person job where I absolutely couldn't answer my cellphone, I had to check it during a meeting---in front of my TOP supervisor---because I kept feeling her special vibration tone going off...to the amount of around 27 missed texts, 10 Facebook messages, and three increasingly-hysterical voicemails. Here I thought she was in serious peril because she KNEW I couldn't be on my phone, and yet she's threatening ME with calling my place of work next and then the police because she convinced herself that something bad had happened to me because I didn't reply to her good morning text letting her know that I'd gotten to work. And then, flushed with embarrassment and anger, I had to explain to my now-increasingly-perturbed supervisor why I was on my phone during this work meeting. Being in my 30s and having the situation public, I became the laughing stock at work as "Mommy's girl".
When we were moving, she ASSumed that she would be coming with us, having never expressed any interest in the state, specific area/town we were looking at, or any of the list of apartments I curated for us. And guess what? She threw an absolute FIT and acted like I'd slaughtered a puppy in front of her when she realized this wasn't just a "maybe someday" whim but that we were actually moving and I told her to her face that I couldn't coordinate her own move down there along with ours, especially since she hadn't shown any interest except to follow US. Mommy dearest got left behind! Cry my a f*cking river. Of course, she bled all over social media about her "baby girl" flying away from the nest, yadayadayada.
For my past two birthdays, she's somehow made them ALL about her. Two years ago, I had made reservations at a restaurant that SHE likes and my husband and I both took the day off of work (it was a weekday) and were going to drive to pick her up and take her there to celebrate MY birthday (it's okay, the food was worth it in the end). Yet, a few days before this was all supposed to go down, she cancelled because "work needs me". Which is complete BS because 1. her job was NOT that important in the scheme of things and 2. my husband also works there and the owners were totally okay with it (family friends type deal). Of course, she bled all over social media about "missing my baby girl's BIG DAY due to working hard at a job where I'm not appreciated". Give me a f*cking break. Last year, once we'd moved away, she didn't call me all day, didn't even answer my requisite morning text (I'll get to that in a second), and then when she knows we'd be sitting down to dinner, she called---briefly wishing me a happy birthday before launching into a b*tchfest rant about the apartment we got her, how much she hates her job (the same one that she blew me off for the year before), etc etc. Again, on Facebook she was the perfect, bleeding heart mother who "only got to talk to my daughter on the phone because she's so far away". (Yeah, that isn't an accident!)
Earlier this year and also last year, we were going to make ALL the arrangements (including paying for whatever transportation method SHE chose). Well, this turned into, "it's too far to drive by myself and I can't get anyone to come with me because of [reasons]", "I can't stand flying these days and I never got my real ID license because of [reasons] (plus real ID isn't in effect even?)", so that only left the train. We tried to get her to commit to when she was coming down, because the closer you get to the travel date usually the fares go up. Well, big surprise: 1) they got to the point where it would be way too costly for us to be able to afford, and 2) she STILL wouldn't commit and we didn't want to flush several hundred or thousand dollars down the drain for nothing). This turned into her boohooing (again on social media), playing the put-upon mother who never gets to see her "baby girl".
Lately, through therapy and self-help, I've been trying to work on setting boundaries. It's bad enough that we have to make our bi-yearly visit up to see her soon (we couple it with visiting my husband's family as well, who live in the same state so we can't see one side without visiting the other as well...works both ways, my husband and I have both agreed to it so we keep the peace on both sides), but recently I've been swamped with a BUNCH of life's challenges: horrible neighbors necessitating us moving out (and having to break our lease which caused us big time), finding new housing (suddenly we're homeowners again! but with that comes a bunch of stress), new big-time job (it's the most heavy-hitting, important job I've ever had and I'm thriving), and other big changes I can't get into for fear of being too identifying but I'll just leave them at being super-time consuming. So, bucking the trend of being the compliant, make-no-waves-daughter, I've stopped answering her morning messages and texts. I haven't made any demands about her stopping on her end, just haven't responded. I still say good night to her, and (fingers crossed) the likelihood of my dying in my sleep somehow is incredibly low. So WTF do I need to check in, in my mid thirties, 8 or so hours after I just said good night to her?!?! Big mistake trying to explain this to her, of course: now she's back bleeding on Facebook and other social media about how adult children never realize how much any little effort by them means to their parents, how grateful she is for TRUE friends (because we're supposedly "besties" in her eyes) and not just "fair-weather friends who only reach out when they have time", etc.
Part of me is super pissed, wants to cancel seeing HER during our upcoming trip (only seeing my in-laws), and reply back to her publicly-unmasking her and explaining for all and sundry WHY I've gone low-contact with her. She only has one kid (ME) so every time she's bitched about me not staying in touch, neglecting her, etc it reflects poorly on me. She even had one of her flying monkeys approach me about "shutting your mom out of your wedding is cruel" even though she'd PARTICIPATED IN EVERY STEP, even MORE than is typical and WE were paying for the entire thing ourselves, except one part which she DEFAULTED on and almost ruined the wedding. My husband reassures me that everyone else sees through her BS, but it just makes me SO angry that she's attacking MY character like this.
But I know she's hoping to get a rise out of me. I've set a boundary that I couldn't set for the longest time because we were either living together or living close enough she could stalk me if I didn't respond (small town dynamics where everyone knows everyone were at play) of not being at her beck-and-call so she's throwing a temper tantrum. On one hand it's so pathetic as to be amusing, on the other I am just SO FED UP WITH HER.

I wasn't diagnosed until a few months ago, after a very traumatizing chain of events had me in a state of freeze (severe PTSD) unable to do things no matter how important, like reporting a fraudulent credit card charge before the deadline, I'd never experienced this severity before diagnosis and it hasn't improved much since.
Fear has too much pull in my brain! Especially of judgement or rejection when seeking help, do anybody you experience this so severely?
It's those fears that have made me extremely hesitant to tell people in my life (first w/ADHD @ 30) but more so with ASD in my 50s due to expected backlash/accusations after dealing with narcissistic abuse for years from my ex (master at smear campaigns)along with my kids and now grandkids from the abusive sperm doner my daughter married (can't call it "dad" without triggering my gag reflex) I see the signs in my adult kids and grandkids (I always suspected my daughter's bipolar diagnosis was bs, now certain of it) and my 59 yo brother is likely the most severe, his life's been so limited and lonely (he's stuck in Midwest always living w/Mom)yet he's never been assessed for ANYTHING beyond being held back a year in first grade!
Keeping quiet doesn't help anyone, it's likely hurting someone who would benefit in the family. But for some reason, being accused of lying or not being listened to, seems to be a common thread for the neurodivergent, who are often more honest than their counterparts, aren't we?
Some people easily manipulate others but my brain isn't wired that way but neither does it help me detect it coming at me as often as I need it to!
I used to get styes in my eye until age 11, don't know why I got them...but cruel mommy dearest (drew blood with her nails in your skin, locked me in dark closets, etc) insisted it was because I was a liar!
I've learned it's not that so many people are suddenly diagnosed with ASD...it's more to do with lack of research funding into autism studies in order to get to this point for several decades! Which did nothing for the common stereotype for autism as only being seen as severe (as in Rainman) targeting severe cases for assessment.
Put more simply, it's like the dumbass idiot who said "stop testing for COVID & the cases will go down! It's the same damn thing, without $$$ for the research, people go undiagnosed, often affecting generations! So of course the numbers go up with knowledge!
Many of us who've had to mask our true selves, diagnosed so late in life, wondering who the hell am I really...without having to pretend to fit in (mask) and how much different would my life have been if I'd known as a child!?
Diagnoses was bittersweet for me, a relief knowing my brain was wired differently, beyond my control and I wasn't alone in feeling legitimately misunderstood, being labeled as too weird, picky or high maintenance because of how crowds, noises, lights etc. affected me!

My great uncle was always a little, off. He had spent most of his life in The U.S. Coast Guard, joining when he was seventeen and serving in search and rescue on The Great Lakes. After he retired he stayed in much the same area and every now and then would help train or consult with the Coast Guard if they had a difficult search to conduct.
Later, after what happened I asked him why he hadn’t gotten the hell away from the lakes after he retired. I would have thought the largest body of water he would want to see was someone's backyard swimming pool, in Arizona or Utah or something. He told me this is where he had lived his entire life, and he wasn’t prepared to up and leave now. It was just one of his many quirks everyone thought.
Most of the time he was okay, he had a great sense of humor and told awesome stories of some of the rescues he had taken part in. it never occurred to me until it was too late he had other stories he did not like to tell. During the fall, especially October and November he seemed to be on edge a lot of the time. One time my dads boss had booked a fishing charter, I remember it was October because my sister and I were excited because Halloween was coming up. Uncle Raymond had stopped by and my mom let it slip dad was going out on a fishing boat over the weekend. Uncle Raymond freaked out on him, screaming about how he had told him over and over to stay off the lakes this time of year. Another time Uncle Raymond was visiting for the party for my parents' wedding anniversary. The Northern Lights were visible that night, not something we saw very often. One of the other uncles said Uncle Raymond had been unplugging the radio and tv in the house. Sure enough when we went inside they were unplugged, even my alarm clock radio in my room.
Dad told us Uncle Raymond wasn’t crazy, he had just seen a lot of people get hurt and die over the years and had developed some odd ways of coping. That sounded pretty much like crazy to me, but other than things like that Uncle Raymond was pretty cool. He took us camping and fishing, and most of us learned how to drive in his beat up old Ford pickup on his extensive property. I found out not much later that Uncle Raymond wasn’t crazy or quirky, he had very legitimate reasons for the things he did.
My mom’s sister was in a bad car accident when I was sixteen and my sister Judith had just turned fifteen. All the family on my mom’s side were of course heading out to help Aunt Caroline and Uncle Drew, and everyone on my dads side was either busy or too far away, so that left Uncle Raymond. Judith and I would be staying with him for a week, maybe two. It wouldn’t be too bad we guessed. Uncle Raymond would probably take us camping, and he had tons of shelves lined with books. Judith and I liked the ones about ghost stories and things like Bigfoot and The Jersey Devil.
We knew something was off as soon as our parents dropped us off. Uncle Raymond was usually very neat and squared away. Clothes always ironed, shoes shined, clean shaven, that sort of thing. When he came out to greet us he had a couple days of beard stubble, his shirt was buttoned wrong and untucked and he had mismatched his socks. Our parents were either too preoccupied to notice or just pretended not to notice.
Judith and I just shrugged and tried to make the best of it. During the day Uncle Raymond was closer to normal but still seemed unsettled. It was at night he seemed to jump at every little noise and shadow. He also refused to allow us to watch tv or listen to the radio, not even to watch something on the VCR or listen to a cassette or CD.
His property used to be a farm, and it still had a bunch of buildings on it. Of course there was a ramshackle barn he used for storage, and an old workshop/machine shed he used as a garage and where he worked on his truck and boat. There was something he said used to be a milk house, where they would bring cows to be milked that he had renovated into a guest house. It had a small living room and kitchenette, and three small bedrooms. First thing we noticed was the tv was gone, but as usual, Uncle Raymond had stocked the fridge to bursting with our favorite drinks and snacks. My sister had snuck along the radio my parents bought her for making Dean's List for two years straight. We turned it on quietly and took turns listening to cassettes we brought along. At that time mine were mostly Motley Crue and Guns and Roses, hers were some hair metal and a couple of pop artists like Madonna and Paula Abdul.
We were glad to be staying in the guest house, Uncle Raymond seemed really on edge tonight. One of his biggest quirks was a weird obsession with solar flares. He had a bunch of newspapers and magazines on his table all talking about unusually intense solar activity. The Northern Lights were not just visible tonight but intense. We figured we would read our books and listen to a little music and hopefully Uncle Raymond would chill out in the morning. Suddenly the radio gave out this loud squealing sound and a burst of static.
Uncle Rayond kicked open the door so hard one of the hinges came off. I was pretty sure national headlines were going to read “Crazed uncle kills niece and nephew with baseball bat” when I saw the aluminum baseball bat in his hands. Instead he beat the radio with it like it had grown teeth and was about to bite him. Judith and I had to duck and cover our faces from the shards of plastic that went flying everywhere. When he was done he just stood there for a second, taking deep breaths. He looked at us and shook his head. All he said was, “pray you never understand the favor I just did you.” With that he walked out the door and back to the main house.
I went to comfort Judith and thought better of it. I knew that look on her face. She was crying but her teeth were bared and she was clenching and unclenching her fists, two out of three of the early warning signs she was about to lose her shit. Judith is usually very laid back, it takes a lot, I mean a lot to get her to lose her temper. But, once it goes, it goes. Forget getting the women and children out first, everyone for themselves at that point. “He killed my radio.” She said. Her voice was soft, almost contemplative. Early warning sign three of three, we are at Defcon One folks.
Considering Uncle Raymond's apparent state of mind I did not think a confrontation between Judith and he would be a good idea but I was kind of frozen as she got up and strode out the door. At that exact moment I wasn’t sure who worried me more, Uncle Raymond or my infuriated sister. Sticking my hand in a wood chipper would probably be less physically and emotionally damaging than trying to deal with either one of them at that point. However, Judith was my little sister and I had always been protective of her so I ran out after her.
Judith was not even half of Uncle Raymond's size but when she kicked open the door to the house it made an even more impressive crash. Uncle Raymond was standing in his kitchen, the bat nowhere to be seen thank god. He just stood there looking more than a little impressed and bewildered as Judith unloaded on him. When Judith is angry she not only unveils an impressive vocabulary of curse words, but she strings them together in ways no sane individual would ever think of. I learned the hard way not to laugh at some of the more inventive ones unless you want to explain to people how your kid sister gave you a black eye. Twenty years later I never heard anyone else swear like Judith.
“All I wanted to do was listen to some music but some rooster fucking, shit sniffing, dickead went fucking Babe Ruth on my radio my mommy and daddy bought me!” She screamed. That was another bad sign. Judith is very proud of how mature she is for her age (tried telling her that crying during Disney cartoons did not support that and almost got an earful for it), so her calling our parents mommy and daddy was another sign of how much she had lost it.
Uncle Raymond was looking at the floor, he sighed and looked up. “I have my reasons. Have I ever, in all your lives done anything unfair or cruel to you or your brother? When it’s safe I will drive you to the mall and you can pick out any radio you like. On one condition.”
Judith crossed her arms. “Let me guess, don’t tell our parents you went all psycho on my radio.”
Uncle Raymond laughed, he looked a little more normal after he did. “Tell them all you want, I can handle your folks any day. No, never ask me why I did it and follow my rules from now on.”
I winced. Telling Judith not to do something when she was pissed off was like waving bloody meat in the face of a rabid animal and then slapping it.
“Screw that numbnuts, you scared the piss out of us! Just for that we deserve to know why!” Judith shouted.
Uncle Raymond sighed again. For the first time he looked his age to me, he had to be past seventy, or very near it. He looked tired and defeated. “Judith, there are some things you do not want to know about. Please, trust me on this. Telling you would be doing you no favors.”
“ Oh bullcrap.” Judith said, rolling her eyes.
The look Uncle Raymond gave her cut through the anger and seemed to make her reconsider for a moment, a feat I would have said was impossible. Uncle Raymond turned to me “Danny, you feel the same way?” He asked.
I had always been a sucker for mysteries, and the cryptic way Uncle Raymond kept approaching the subject only made me more curious. God help me. So I nodded my head yes.
Uncle Raymond beckoned us into another room. The radio in here wasn’t the sort you used to play music or listen to talk shows on, this must have been pretty close to the kind he would have used with the coast guard. He looked out the window at the northern lights and shivered.
“You guys know why you can see those this far south tonight? Solar Flares. The sun ejects particles, radiation and when it hits the earth it plays hell with the magnetic field. Communications get spotty. People have picked up radio signals from half the world away. During really strong ones, under the right conditions you can pick up…other things.” He said as he switched the radio on and began tuning it.
“Usually around this frequency band here…” He said. We all jumped back as there was a squeal of feedback and burst of static, then a voice started speaking in what I was pretty sure was Japanese or Chinese, maybe Korean. It went for about a minute and a half before fading out. Uncle Raymond chuckled, mostly at the looks on our faces.
The static intensified again. Uncle Raymond's face tightened, he looked like someone expecting something painful and unavoidable any second. Like a driver who sees a car swerve into their lane and knows there is no way to avoid the collision. The feedback returned, but this was different. It did not just hurt your ears but seemed to drill right into your mind and heart. I found it hard to breathe, every heartbeat felt like someone knocking on my sternum from the inside. The voice that broke through the static was someone trying to maintain a veneer of professionalism over a rising tide of panic. “Mayday, mayday this is Container Vessel Majorie Rose, we are 5 miles north of Manitowoc and taking water. We are foundering, I repeat we are foundering. Mayday Mayday This is…” The static and terrible feedback rose again, cutting off the voice. Then it dropped to normal levels.
Judith was pale. “Uncle Ray, will they be able to get to them, before…”
Uncle Raymond shook his head. “Honey, the Majorie Rose went down with all hands over twenty-five years ago. This is like one of those hauntings where the ghost just shows up and does the same thing over and over, a place memory I think it’s called.”
If it wasn’t for the look of terrible sadness on his face I would have thought he was screwing with us. I knew, I just knew we had heard the final plea for help from a man who had died before I was even born. I thought I understood now, who in their right mind would ever want to hear anything like that again? I was about to find out there was worse, much worse.
“Okay, I think I made my point.” Uncle Raymond said, reaching to turn off the power. “Best stop before one of the others comes through…”
Any other time a statement like that would have made me more curious, but after what we just heard I was done. Just as he was about to kill the power the static was back and another intense squeal of feedback sounded, louder and more terrible than before. It sounded like live things screaming. It made me feel like every nightmare and bogeyman from my childhood was going to come out of the nearest closet to answer that horrible call. Judith had covered her ears and was screaming. Uncle Raymond recoiled back, tears running down his cheeks. The voice we heard was flat and toneless. The voice of someone who had long ago given up hope, driven beyond reason by endless terror.
“This is Kevin Marsh, acting captain of Motor Vessel Kelly’s Pride. I don’t know how long we have been here. Have never been able to see the sun, stars, or the moon. Shit, the sea and the sky look so much alike I can’t tell which one we’re sailing on…” The voice broke off into isnae giggles, or maybe sobs.
“It’s infected the ship itself now. Below desks it has been rearranging itself. The angles are…wrong. Nothing is right down there anymore. We lost Juan, a hatchway opened on its own and fucking at him. It was below him, by his feet but it pulled him upwards and bit clean though him. He kept screaming, for hours his head kept screaming on the deck until it ate that too.” Judith stood and ran out of the room. I would have followed but I could not move. Like before, some part of me knew on the most basic level this was real.
“We had to kill Davis. He built some sort of weird altar and started worshipping the fucking things from the water. He would start chanting this nonsense and we would hear the tentacles on the hull. I used a flashlight, bashed his head in with it, kept going until he didn’t have a mouth anymore to chant with and a new mouth opened in his belly and kept right on chanting.” The voice was screaming now. “Everytime we stopped his mouth he grew a new one. I fucking hate it when people won’t take the hint and shut up!” We could hear him panting, every now and then a sob or giggle would escape him. This time when the static and feedback came Uncle Raymond managed to move and shut the radio off. “Those…are the worst.” he said.
“What…where are they?” I managed to ask. I wiped at my face and realized I had been crying.
“You know about the Bermuda Triangle, right? Well we have a spot like that on the lakes. We think that is where ships that just vanish without a trace go. Kelly’s Pride was lost in 1969.” He said. He looked at me and put a hand on my shoulder. “Do you understand now, Danny?”
I nodded. We went to go check on Judith. She was on the sofa, face buried in a pillow and sobbing. It had been loud enough that she had heard everything out here. We decided to maybe just get away from the house for a bit and went camping for the next three days. By the time we came back we could no longer see the Northern Lights. Uncle Raymond didn’t think it would come across on tv or if you were listening to cassettes or cd’s but he did not like to chance it.
The day before my parents came to pick us up he took us to the mall and bought my sister a replacement radio. To this day both of us keep track of solar activity. Neither of us will turn on the radio or tv during intense solar storms. I never want to hear anything like that again.
I can’t help but wonder about those men, if they are still out there somewhere. If they are still trying to get home from a place that seems to warp and twist metal and flesh alike into monsters. The thought that one day one of them just might make it home is what scares me the most.

So i haven't really had a good amount of interaction with men due to my introverted nature and i have always been around my dad and brothers but now that i am getting older (currently 24) and i HAVE to interact with lots of men, some seem cocky, some play the victim, some are just princesses and some are admirably focused. But i do get confused as to rule out whether a man is confident or not. Some men do feel dominated by me even though i am very soft and feminine but i maintain a good distance and only entertain a few who are just very smart & intelligent yet extremely down to earth. So yes, i wanted to know how to rule out real confidence in men and someone faking confidence.
PS - I have had a brand new experience recently with a man who apparently "loved" me and followed whatever his mommy dearest said & was confident in it which has, in some way, altered my view when it comes to men being confident.

Base game will have 4 base boards being Stage, Mansion, Alleyway, & Highway. The game will have 7 base characters being Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Daddy Dearest, Skid & Pump, Lemon Demon, Pico, & Mommy Mearest. I want some ideas on how the game should play out and different board spots kinda like a Mario party type style. So any ideas? (More Info, Progress, and Photos are Coming Soon).

Ever since I stumbled upon D's account and realized there's an entire EP community, I've been very intrigued and gone "down the rabbit hole", for lack of a better term.
A common thing D and other EP fail to realize is: Going NC doesn't stem from ONE issue. Or one incident. I've seen other EAC say that, too. It made me want to start a thread to discuss some of our reasons that made us go NC. I completely understand if anyone is uncomfortable with sharing. 🩵
I always joke about how I could write a book with how much I have to share, but I'll try to keep it short here lol.
GOING NC WITH MY MOTHER: As a young child, I was actually a "Mommy's girl." My mom was a yeller, door slammer, etc. To the outside world, we were the perfect family. Beautiful house and yard, dad worked while mom was a SAHM. Kids and a dog. My mom had the nickname "Martha Stewart" cause she kept the house clean and decor was a cozy vibe, cooked and baked, and was crafty. But behind closed doors it was a lie. If my parents were fighting or if she was frustrated with us kids, you could cut the tension with a knife. You were scared to come to her for anything out of fear she'd yell/scream. Within a few months of having my youngest sister, my mom was introduced to ebay by my aunt {her twin sister}. She started spending more and more time online. Money was tight but she'd steal cash from my dad's pockets and shop on ebay. Then my aunt told her about classmates.com and she found an old friend on there and they'd talk on the phone. I started noticing the calls became more private. If she wasn't on the computer, she'd be in her bedroom with the door locked on the phone. She said this friend lived out of state and wanted to visit her. My dad bought her a ticket even though I'm pretty sure we couldn't afford it. I told her to take pictures. When she got them developed, only photo she showed was of her on some bridge. No photos of the friend. When she got home, her neglect got worse. She stopped doing laundry, cleaning became the kids job, stopped cooking dinner to the point where she would just tell me to eat cereal. When she was on the phone, I would notice her laughing this fake laugh. And she'd tell us to leave the office when she was online. Couldn't even talk to her about our day at school. Long story short she was cheating on my dad. I had accused her and she'd lie to my face or threaten to send me to my aunts or grandma's. My older sister and I found dirty emails, photos and I listened in on the phone one time and she was talking to another man {her current bf, actually} and she was telling him she loved him, wanted to be with him, etc. I confronted her and she flat out lied to me and called my aunt and said "Will you tell Carly I was just on the phone with you? She seems to believe I wasn't" then calls me a liar. I called my aunt later on and told her what my sister and I knew and she promised me she wouldn't say anything. When my mom was visiting her, she told her everything. So my mom called us at home and said if we told our dad she'd make our lives "a living hell." That's just a tiny part of all that hell she already did put us through. My parents did divorce eventually. My mom then moved out of state to live with that guy on the phone and took my youngest sister with her. I was so angry for awhile because I felt she broke up our family and hated she was leaving us for a guy and taking a daughter and sister away. She would visit once in awhile and during one visit, she was saying she regretted what she did and wanted to get the family back together. Turns out she just assumed my dad had a lot of money since his business was doing well. Told him she wanted the family back but then went back to her bf after saying "this isn't what I signed up for." And her bf had no idea, he assumed it was just another visit. Due to fights and whatnot, we'd go off and on without talking. One day my dad tells me she had been diagnosed with cancer. That prompted me to reconcile with her. After treatment, she was declared "in remission." I thought it would give her a new outlook on life, but she never changed her ways. She and her bf decided to move back but while he took care of the selling of their house and whatnot, she came to stay with me. My husband and I had just moved in together. She would constantly complain that I didn't have cable set up even though I had Netflix and dozens of DVDs and told her after paying for everything to get into our place, we didn't have the extra money to get it. She didn't respect my "rules" of waiting till the weekend or after 6 pm to do laundry, turned my AC to the 60s, ruined my decorative towels, left lights on, rearranged stuff in my kitchen, let my golden child sister come over without asking me first, etc. My electric bill was ridiculous. Then I came home from work one day and all of her stuff was gone and my key I had let her use was on my door handle with a hair tie. Earlier that day she had told me my uncle was gonna pick her up and drop her off at my aunts. I told her she would need to drop off my key at my work {I literally worked around the corner from my apartment} and when she tried saying she would put my key on the handle, I said absolutely not. She did it anyway and put my home at risk. But it turns out she lied and her plan was she was gonna stay with my sister and didn't want to tell me. When I got pregnant with my son and my husband and I got engaged, she wanted to be able to announce it and kept asking "so who can I tell?" I said she could tell my aunt and my grandma. We wanted to tell family and friends personally before posting anywhere. She didn't like that. She would ask daily "When can I tell ppl?" I gave the same answer and she'd get mad or quiet. Mind you, I had a miscarriage a few months prior and wanted to wait before announcing to make sure baby was healthy and she knew this, too. She texts me one day going off on me saying I was only caring about everyone else's feelings and not HER feelings and she should be allowed to tell ppl about her new grandchild. I went OFF and basically said it was our baby, NOT hers and she had no right to get mad and it wasn't about her. For my baby shower, she and golden child said they wanted to plan it and put their names on the invites. Long story short, I planned the entire thing myself. I picked where it would be, the theme, the food, provided the food and drinks other than the 2 of them bringing a dish. I paid for everything, put the decor and prizes together, etc. It was at 1 pm and I asked them both to show up at 11 to help set up. My husband and I were on our way and I texted my mom saying "we're grabbing coffee then heading over." She said "She's picking me up at noon." I said "Noon?? I told you guys 11." Mind you the location was 20-30 minutes away. And my sister blew off helping me that morning at 8 and said "I have to get ready so.." They didn't show up till 1245. I was stressed and rushing and for some reason calls kept going to me and not my sister of ppl needing directions. My sister looked like she rolled out of bed and she and my mom left for a bit to go smoke weed, then come back bitching at me for inviting family from my dad's side and asked if we were serving alcohol. They sat there the whole time, complained, and didn't help. And neither of them got me a gift. Never did. Only thing my mom ever gave me were 2 old bras of hers. When my son was born, I had a c-section that was planned. She was wanting us to pick her up before going to the hospital. I said no cause it was opposite direction plus I couldn't have visitors for 2 hours post-op and said my husband would call when ppl could come. As I'm being rolled into the recovery room, my mom and younger sisters were in the hall watching my son through the window. First thing my mom says "Can we post pictures??" Said they were gonna go get food then come back. She didn't come back until the next day. In another post on here I mention that I didn't speak to her for 4 months then gave her another chance. A couple years prior I was going through a really hard time and confided something in her. I would call her crying about it and make her swear not to tell anyone and she'd say she promised not to. It wasn't until this point {that was about a couple years later} that I found out from a COUSIN when she slipped and I realized my mom had blabbed. I immediately tried calling her, she ignored and said she was heading up north with her bf but then said she knew what it was about and wasn't gonna answer my call. "I'm not gonna let you yell and cuss at me and berate me." I said I'm not discussing it over text. And she said "I already know what this is about and I will NEVER apologize for it. She's my sister, your aunt. We talk about our kids. It's what sisters do." When I mentioned what she did was a betrayal and she used my pain as gossip instead of being my mom. Her excuse was it wasn't done in malice. When I said I would never talk to her again, she would say the punishment didn't fit the crime, how dare I keep my son away from her, etc. That's how she tells the story. That she talked about her kid with her sister and I decided to punish her by keeping "that baby" from her. My aunt called me "mean and evil." And her side of the family would pull the whole "but she's your mom" bullshit. Another cousin even said one day "Can you please make up with your mom so we can all have a big Christmas together?" This July will be 9 years since I cut contact and never looked back.
I cut contact with my dad for good last May. We were low contact for almost a year prior. Growing up, I remember him working a lot and then would work from his home office a lot after as well. When I was 5, my golden child sister was born. She's now almost 32 and still lives with him with no job other than selling paintings. Has never in her life paid a bill or had a long term job. She was diagnosed with chrohns disease and that was always the excuse. But she had surgery a few years ago and is in much better shape but he still doesn't expect her to work. He'd tell me "I know what things cost out there" as if that was the new excuse. Her being the golden child at times meant he was abusive to me and my older sister. When I was a kid he shoved my whole hand up to my wrist in a bowl of scalding hot baked beans cause she cried and told him I burned her on purpose. He would hold me down and let her hit me if she and I were being sisters and fighting and I hit her. She got big birthday parties and extra gifts at Christmas. She was a spoiled brat and they never told her no. When my youngest sister was a baby, my parents took golden child and her best friend to Disneyland and my older sister and I had to stay behind and babysit. In high school when I was in dance or a school play, he only showed up one out of the four nights. When GC was in plays, he showed up all 4 nights and her junior year she was Jan in Grease and he went all 4 nights, invited family from out of town, donated dinner to the cast and crew and had a cake made. When I'd ask him why he didn't do that for me, he'd avoid it until one day he finally admitted he didn't think it was necessary cause I didn't have a lead role. He never got on her about helping around the house cause she was getting good grades and wanted her to focus on school and theater. He let her have parties with alcohol even though she was 15-16. She would steal my stuff and instead of telling her to stop he'd tell me to lock my door. He wouldn't let my sister have her baby shower at the house cause someone GC didn't like was invited. In 2009 my older sister and I had enough and moved out. Not long after, my grandma was in the hospital pretty much on her death bed. My older sister and her now husband and i took a day off work and went to visit her. First thing she said to me was "How important is family to you?" And during awkward silence my aunt was like "she wants you guys to make up." When my sister and I had a falling out I asked my dad if I could move back in. He said I could but would have to pay rent. I had just quit my job cause it was too far so I was looking but he wanted me to look nonstop. If i was at home first thing he'd say is "how's the job hunt going?" I said "Well I applied at 4 different places that day." He said "That's it?" At the time I was looking for jobs in childcare since that's where my experience was but he was wanting me to apply anywhere and everywhere. I got a job telemarketing but it was commission and wasn't working out. I had won $5 in a game and told him and I jokingly said "put this towards my rent" and he actually took it and put it in his wallet. He wanted me to cook dinners and clean the entire house while GC did nothing. One day I said she wasn't helping and he said "Well we agreed you were gonna do the chores until you got a job." Never happened but he said that's how it was gonna be. I landed a job at a daycare but it was part time and an afternoon shift. He said "Well what are you gonna do in the mornings?" My pay was a joke but he still wanted $200 a month for rent. I didn't mind paying some rent but I hated that GC was never expected to get a job and pay rent, even at 18. And never expected to clean or cook. He wanted me to cook but never bought the groceries I would need for a recipe. I'd cook and then never got help with the dishes after. But if GC threw a frozen meal on the stove, he'd have his last bite then tell me to get up and help with the dishes after. Every first of the month, first thing he'd say to me in the morning "Where's my rent?" Things got so bad I would leave/enter the house through my bedroom window to avoid him. He was always an asshole to me and if I would cry he'd say "If you're so unhappy here why don't you just move out?" Even called me "you little bitch" one time with his whole chest. I was dating this guy and when my dad found out, he kept asking why he hadn't met him. Looking back, I think my bf didn't want to meet him due to how I was being treated but used the excuse he wasn't ready. So I respected that but my dad didn't. So he resented me and it showed. I finally moved out and not long after he let GC bf move in and only charged him $100 for rent and never had to help with the house. And came and went as he pleased and when his car stopped working my dad let him use one of his vehicles. Didn't even make him pay for gas. After my husband and I got together, my husband and I went to pick up my younger sisters {we were okay at this time} and he was out front doing yard work and my husband introduced himself. We were good after. So when my son was about to turn 1, I was planning a birthday party for him. When I told my dad, he ended up telling me he wouldn't come cause GC wasn't invited {she took my mom's side after I went NC} and said he couldn't "abandon" her. And that she was his "family unit" since she lived with him. I was livid and said it wasn't about her, this was about celebrating his grandson. He still wouldn't agree to come and said I was putting him in a tough spot. I went NC for a year and a half. During that time, I moved out of state and had my daughter. But before I moved, I found out my Papa was in the hospital from Facebook. When i asked my youngest sister, she said my dad had made her promise not to tell me or my older sister. I decided to write him a letter venting everything, including that thanks to him my last memory of my grandma was her being mad at me. He wrote back asking if he could come visit so we could talk in person. I agreed. He came here and everything went fine and we talked A LOT and he was a great grandpa to my kids. We were better than ever. I even reached out to GC in 2020 cause I didn't want beef with anyone. She and I were fine too. In June of 2022, my older sister was moving. When asking my mom and GC to help, they made excuses why they couldn't but on the day they did help it was the bare minimum and GC caused special items from a late aunt to break. My dad helped on one day but cut it short cause I think he had plans. My sister has endometriosis and had days where she was in too much pain to move. Her inlaws helped pack, hired off-duty firemen to help move the furniture, bought dinner, helped clean, etc. So when the house was empty, my sister took a photo and made a post saying what good memories were made there and thanked her inlaws for all they did. My mom and GC saw the post and got mad they weren't mentioned. She showed my dad the post and he got mad, too. It was strange considering he doesn't use social media and used to say FB was stupid and ppl needed to stop getting mad over posts and talk TO each other. But this made him mad. He called me up and asked my opinion. I said I think it's dumb to get so mad over a FB post. My mom even told her she needed to rewrite it and include them. My dad was frustrated I didn't see his side. I said "If your feelings are hurt, that's fine but I don't think it's worth getting so mad over. It's FACEBOOK. Who cares?" And he said "It was like a kick in the nuts!" So he and my sister weren't speaking and fathers day plans were canceled. He used to call me once a week or vice versa but that stopped. I'd only hear from him maybe once a month. I took it as he was holding it against me that I didn't take his side. And GC had blocked me on socials but he was expecting ME to reach out to her. I refused. My birthday came along and he just sent me a Happy Birthday gif in text, but a week later I had gotten a card with cash from him. I sent him photos of my kids on the first day of school and on Halloween. I'd get one sentence response like "That's very nice." But no calls or even texts asking how they were doing. On Thanksgiving he sent a gif again, same on Christmas. He normally would send me a large Amazon gift card early December in a card and tell me ahead of time "That way you guys can pick out what you want and the kids want and it'll arrive in time." But that year he sent a dutch oven and 1 gift for each kid but didn't attach a card so I had to ask if he sent em. I sent him one of our Christmas cards and a gift. When my son's birthday came around he didn't acknowledge it. No gift, no call, no text. That was my last straw. I told my husband "It's one thing to treat me this way but you don't fuck with my kids. " I didn't reach out but still declared to my husband and myself that I was done for good. A few months later on my daughter's birthday he texted and said he's sorry he didn't acknowledge my son's birthday but said it wasn't on purpose. K..? And asked if I'd be willing to have a "no holds barred" conversation with him. I sat on it but finally decided on no. I texted him back saying I can't be on this roller coaster anymore. GC will always be his number one and always has been and I'm done competing and not gonna let my kids go through that either. Also pointed out she's the one who decided to cut ties with me but yet always expects me to be the one to reach out and fix things even though 1. I already did that in 2020 and 2. She was the one mad at me, not the other way around. I ended it with I didn't want him to respond and was going to block his number.

Hello oh great petty potato community. This is a story from my past that I thought you would all enjoy. But be warned and strap in, because its a LONG one.
EDIT. English is not my first language so I apologize for any errors.
Back when I was 19(F) I was still living at home with my parents. I was recovering from some pretty severe depression and an ED that I'd struggled with since I was 14. In order to earn my keep I was working for my dad doing odd jobs at his company, id also cook, clean, and help my mom with her physical therapy. Life was good and I was really starting to make progress on my healing journey. Little did I know one of my good 'friends' was about to set me back.
We will call him Prince Leech. I'd met him in highschool and we had formed a pretty deep (or so i thought) friendship as we were two of the only LGBT kids attending our religious school (I am Bisexual and he is Gay). We'd shared our worries and fears of telling our parents and our struggles living in such a conservative community, eventually however I came out to my parents which they accepted and seeing my home as a safe space Prince Leech also let my parents know he was gay, which they quick to accept and support.
Fast forward and there I am, waking up one morning bleary eyed to the sound of my phone ringing. I pick up and Prince Leech is on the other end absolutely hysterical. He tells me that his parents found out he was gay, and that they didn't react well and were planning to ship him off to a gay conversion camp. He has no car, and we live in the middle of nowhere so he has no escape. He tells me his parents are currently gone and he needs help before they come home. I of course am horrified I race downstairs, tell my parents and within minutes were hoping into our truck to go and save my friend.
When we arrived at his home Prince Leech opened the door to let us in. I had expected him to be panicking or nervous or upset but he wasn't. He was completely fine, sipping on a diet coke while casually leading us to his room so that we could carry all of his belongings out and into the back of the truck. This should have been my first red flag that something wasn't right. But I would not let myself believe it, after all his parents had threatened to send him to a conversion camp right? Who was I to dictate how he react to that kind of news. So we packed up his stuff drove him back to our house unpacked it and I welcomed him into my room as our house was small, we set up a privacy curtain and I spent the rest of the day trying to talk to him while he waved me away so he could watch beauty gurus on Youtube.
At breakfast the next morning we decided it was time to let Prince Leech know the house rules. Now normally these rules dont exist for guests but seeing as he had moved in and would likely be staying awhile he needed to get on the same page as the rest of us. The 'rules' were incredibly simple:

1. Don't waste food, we were poor so leftovers were something to cherish and enjoy.
2. No daily showers. This may horrify some of you but when your poor you make do with 2 or 3 showers a week at most.
3. Don't leave lights or electronics on when you leave a room or the house. Electricity costs a fortune.
4. Be respectful of other peoples things, say please and thank you, and other common courtesy rules.

Now with such a simple set of rules I'd expect it would be easy for any of you in this community to follow them. But how long do you think Prince Leech followed them before he completely gave up and started acting like he owned the place? If you said 3 days. Congrats you win some focaccia lovingly prepared by my Italian mama.
After 3 whole days of painstakingly observing our barbaric and cruel rules Prince Leech promptly developed a new and rare form of Amnesia where he conveniently forgets anything he doesn't want to remember. He started showering not once per day but TWICE per day, taking long hot showers that left no hot water for the rest of us. He'd cook himself massive portions of food and throw away everything he himself could not immediately eat. He'd have 2 tvs on (one in the bedroom and one downstairs) along with his laptop and lights on during the day if you turned them off hed just turn them right back on and get upset like a child being told no to a second bag of candy, hed also leave the tv on all night playing youtube beauty guru playlists 24/7 and disturbing my sleep. But would turn around and get upset if I stayed up having calls with my long distance crush. Apparently he could sleep through jefree star beauty tutorials but not me whisper talking into a mic.
Now you might be thinking 'hey he only broke 3 of the 4 rules' and to that id say your right he did observe rule 4 a little longer then three days. But eventually that went out the window, when my father dared to remind him about the showering rule, Prince Leech decided common courtesy and respect was no longer something my parents deserved.
But oh dear readers were not done yet. Because my people pleasing running for the sainthood thick bootylicious butt was too deep in to see the light. See Prince Leech was smart enough to hide his downright rude attitude toward my parents from me so I assumed he was being kind and good to my parents, even helping my mom with the groceries. And my parents who thought he was just lashing out due to the horrible things his parents had done to his trust kept quiet thinking he just needed time.
And as for the issues with food, electricity and water? Well Prince Leech was about to find a solution that would make the financial situation just manageable enough for my parents to keep the leech around, and the solution was to ruin my fragile self esteem. After all if I was too depressed to shower and my ED came back so i didn't eat, then all the waste he was making would be financially survivable.
And so he began to chip away at me. Little snide comments here and there about my weight, my skin, my hair, crying and acting lonely so I'd spend time with him only to force me to watch hours of beauty youtube content and models on the runway things he knew I found triggering at the time due to my fragile mental state. He'd suggest diets, casually comment on what I was eating and how much. Cover up every hurtful thing he said about my body, style, and appearance as 'concern'. The cherry on top was accidentally overhearing my parents talking about how the food, water, and electricity bill were too high and they could barely afford them. This made something in me snap and just like that I stopped eating and showering. I also reduced my time using my laptop but my long distance crush kept me logging in, and thank god it did because my crush was one of the only people to see what was happening and the one who started guiding me out of the fog.
But while my crush was guiding me out of people pleaser land and toward the light of bright shiny new spine my dad got a new contract. My grandfather had recently passed and had left several rental properties to my fathers older brother. The houses were in horrible condition having been rented by some hoarders and now my uncle was hiring my dad and by extension me to go in and fix the places up. I was excited by the prospect of a new job until Prince Leech hearing about it threw a fit and demanded to get hired as well. My uncle not seeing the harm agreed and Prince Leech was hired to help us out.
Dear Readers, I have never in my life worked with someone so lazy. A typical work day started with us waking up, eating breakfast, packing a lunch, and heading to the worksite around 9am my dad did the more technical jobs or sometimes left us to go work on the other rental houses which were in worse condition. So we were free to do as we wished and work as much or as little as we wanted, and the work was simple, just clean and paint. Yet Prince Leech acted like it was hell on earth. He'd whine and complain constantly and avoid actually working by spending his time fiddling with the radio my dad had brought hooking his phone into it and playing music which he had to constantly go change. The longest I ever saw him actually work was 1 whole blissful hour where he finally stopped talking and focused on painting the baseboards. The rest of the time hed be constantly putting down his brush to go mess with his music, eating lunch early, or just following me around telling me about the newest youtuber drama or complaining that some day he'd marry a rich sugar daddy in LA and never have to work again (yes, im serious this was his only life ambition). Often he'd leave the work site hours ahead of me something for which I was actually grateful as I could really start working once I no longer had him distracting me.
The bad part is that he was going home early to a completely empty house where he could do whatever he wanted like waste more food and water. He also used this opportunity to sneak things into the house. For example I came home one day to discover that he had snuck his cat into our house. His cat that none of us knew existed and was suppose to be a town away with his parents... None of us knew how he had gotten the feline but now it was 'too late to return her' and she had to stay so suddenly we all had to deal with that. In the end I didn't mind it so much as his cat adored me and often hid with me from Prince Leech because he had 0 respect for the animal and treated it like a stuffed animal and not a living creature with its own thoughts and opinions.
But it was also around this time, that my mother began to grow suspicious of Prince Leech. You see my mother had bumped into Prince Leeche's mom one day while shopping, and had an odd conversation. Prince Leeche's mother had followed my mother crying and asking her how she could separate her child from her like that and begging my mother to tell Leech that she was sorry and they would buy him a brand new car and give him whatever he wanted. My mother of course thought this was a trap to lure Prince Leech to a conversion camp but when she came home and told us of the incident Prince Leech instead of being sad or suspicious was very excited and told us all he would not go to work tomorrow so he could phone and talk to his parents. When I got home from work the next day he was gone, and would not answer any messages. For two long days I panicked not knowing if my friend was okay only for him to re-appear two days later wearing new clothes excitedly telling me that his mother was buying him a new car.
Then he went right back to living with us as he had been. With no explanation, by this point my long distance crush had managed to give my spine some reinforcements. And I was done. From that point onward I deflected all of Prince Leeche's shady sneaky little comments toward my body, I ignored his whines and refused to cave to his tantrums or cries. I did whatever I wanted with 0 apology and it was driving him insane. Prince Leech quickly figured out where my new confidence was coming from and immediately began trying to distance me and my crush. Something I not only refused but got mad about. And that was that, the next day Prince Leech disappeared again leaving all his crap behind as he ran home to mommy.
And that's when the whole truth came out. Prince Leeche's parents had known for awhile that he was gay, and they didn't give a shit. There was never any gay conversion camp or any threat to his safety The whole thing was a lie he made up so he could move out and 'punish' his parents for 'spoiling' his autistic younger brother whom he hated. The second his mom had caved and promised him a new car and a bunch of other stuff he wanted he had won his little war, and me with my new spine? Well I was now just an annoying person no longer giving him what he wanted.
But he wasn't done yet oh no. Despite running back home he was still harassing my parents demanding the payment he 'deserved for all his hard work'. My uncle who had just gotten divorced and was being tested for cancer didnt have the money on hand so Prince Leech continued to harass them, until my parents got the money and gave it to him along with the crap hed left behind. During that last meeting he kept trying to chat with me but I didnt even bother replying I just packed his shit up and slammed the door in his face. Later my mom told me some of the things she'd found out about him and learning how much my supposed friend hated me and saw me as disgusting for my weight and how he spoke about me behind my back before our falling out was truly painful. But in the end I decided to just let it go and focus on my crush... Who became my boyfriend.
My mother however. Was not so willing to let it go. Never mess with an italian mama bear who will find a way to be petty and ruin your life. She let my gay uncle (different from my uncle who hired us to work on the house) know the entire situation and together the two of them RUINED his reputation. The LGBT community where Im from is very small and tight knit and my Uncle has been a part of it for decades so everything he said about Prince Leech stuck. On top of my mom and uncle ruining his reputation karma and his own nasty attitude helped ruin it even more. Prince Leeche's mommy dearest had gotten him a modeling gig his only other dream job besides marrying rich, and his entitled attitude, snide and snippy comments to the camerawoman and the other models was not helping his efforts.
Worse still the camerawoman wasn't just a camerawoman she was the owner of the entire modeling agency. The only one in our small area. And her hairdresser just so happened to be my gay uncle, when she told him about Prince Leech he recognized him from my moms info and was quick to make sure that the modeling career was dead then and there by letting her know how he had treated me and my family. Her modeling agency was pro-body positivity and so that career was dead, worse still she let her other contacts in the modeling world know.
I only learned about this petty vengeance after the fact when my mom and gay uncle excitedly told me. You tell me if they went too far or not I was just shocked theyd been doing all that while I was busy moving on with my life.
With no one else willing to hire him with his tainted reputation he had to settle for a lovely position at the local Costco where he bagged my moms groceries. Then to top it all off his thirst trap Instagram account where he posted borderline OF content got discovered and everyone saw it including his parents which destroyed any remaining reputation he had. Note that personally I don't care be as slutty as you want on the internet bestie but maybe don't use your real name for your horny Instagram account when you know the very religious conservative people of our town are bound to see it.
Last I heart he was still working at Costco, hes burned every bridge he has with his nasty attitude and no one wants to be his roomate or live with him, and his dreams of LA and modeling are going nowhere. Meanwhile I am now 27 I got married to my crush, who turned out to be one of the most gorgeous men on this planet who loves my body just the way it is. I moved to a new country, my mental health is doing better, I'm working on my dream of writing a book, Ive traveled to countries I never thought Id get to see, and im trying to convince my family to come visit.

There's no (intended) religious context, just Harmony and its enduring philosophy.

Hello, I (18F) graduated from highschool last month and am heading off to college in the fall. I am so excited that I have the privilage of leaving home and studying what I love for the next few years, but I have a concern about my social life when I get there.
Growing up in the Southern U.S.A, I was raised to be a people pleaser which has caused some problems for me as I tried navigating middle and high school. I've always had a loose group of friends and never really felt like I was apart of the group, i.e group hangouts without me, ignored in conversation, left out of card games, group trips that I didn't know about etc. I always brushed this off as them just forgetting about me or they knew that I wouldn't enjoy whatever they were doing, but their ignorance still got to me. I spent so much time and effort trying to become a person that they would like, but could never seem to get them to hang out with me. They are the reason I got haircuts, went on Accutane, wore makeup, watched Anime for a while, and nothing I did ever seemed to make them, or me for that matter, happy.
I tried other friend groups, but the same thing happened and I always ended up coming back to my orginal group and trying again. Over and over and over again. I was never going to be good enough. I was the kind of person that texted people, and never the other way around. Unless someone needed something. That was the only thing I had going for me. I never minded editing essays, listening to drama that then needed off their chest, giving homework or worksheet answer, tutoring in anything I could, coming up with science fair ideas, helping with scinece fair experiments. As long as I was helping someone succeed, I was happy to do anything I could. And this always resulted in a few weeks of being included until they got bored or needed something else.
I let this go until the middle of senior year when I was becoming the designated college essay editor. Up until that point, I was fine with being used a little if that meant I didn't have to eat lunch alone, but right after midterms, I caught wind of a rumor wild that the person I'd considerd my best friend had been spreading. The rumor itself is not important, just that it could have jeprodized me getting into any college if it was actually true. And that was my breaking point, after the person who had told me on many occasitons that they wouldn't have graduated without me was actively trying to sabotage my future because I didn't like thier abusive patner, I gave up helping them and focused on myself. I also gave up on the rest of my group after winter break. I had spent my entier break writting a long and complex D&D campaign to play with them and when I went to show it to them, I was blocked from our Discord server and they procceded to play my campaign without me.
After I started focusing on me, I felt better about who I was as a person, but it was (and still is) a lonely existace. I feel like I never really got to experience the typical teenage girl things, prom with friends, going out on the weekends getting icream at unholy hours of the night and listening to bad music in the parking lot, texting and calling for hours about nothing. I don't know if it's because of all the Disney channel movied I watched, but I always had this fantasy that I'd have this big group of girls and we'd get ready for dances together, talk about nothing until midnight, become friends with eachother's moms, have movie nights and all that jazz. But, I never got to experience any of that, and I was never for lack of trying. I tried to get people together for movie nights, Halloween patries, I have a pool ffs. But I always got told no or better yet set up the party only for no one to show up.
Sorry about the tangient, but to the point. When I get to college, I want to have geniune friends who like being around me for who I am, not just what I can provide. In proper terms, I want genuine connection without obligation to provide, or in raw pissed off terms, I don't want to get stuck being everyone's mommy all over again. Is there any advice on how I can make real friends in my next chapter?
