2020.09.22 18:35 EdeaCross My Top 10 Rebels manga Vol1 dialogues

Hi there again! Since my last post hit quite hard, here's a compilation of my favourite pieces of text from the first manga of Rebels (available in Amazon Japan). Words have been said that we'll have an official translation on November, so please look forward to it!! I'm just a Japanese student, plus English is not my native language, so I'm probably not 100% accurate here. However, for those eager to read more already about the comic, here you have this little advance.
FAQ: the manga is not exactly as the show. The development is slightly different, I feel it a bit more mature and focused on Ezra's point of view. However, the core events are the same.
Imgur album of the scenes below:
1. Ezra, about Kanan, just after seeing him for the first time
"Scary!"
"Wait, what? This feeling..."
"Is like I'm being pulled to that guy with the beard... it has to be a joke"
"Besides, I've never seen him around here before"
2. Kanan to Ezra after using a Force jump to get into the Ghost
Ezra: that was dangerous!
Kanan: That strenght... You're a -- who's your master?
Ezra: Master? What for?
3. Ezra, about Kanan, after stealing the holocron
"He's so tall... slender but still, strong muscles. He's on his late 20s? But that beard, however..." "Ah, I knew it!! Why am I nervous!"
Kamam: Hey... Ezra: WH -WHAT?
4. Kanan to Hera, about Ezra shortly after meeting him
"I know how far my hand can reach to protect what I love. If I try to reach further, and then lose everything... I'll feel sorry. Again."
5. Ezra, with the holocron
(Translating the text on the left boxes, he's just remembered Kanan's talk about not being so rekless)
"Don't make yourself comfortable!"
"It'll all be back to normal when you get back home."
"Back home... I... all alone"
6. About the wookie rescue
Ezra: Have you lost your minds? I mean, a sneaky recovery of war prisoners, and directly from the Empire... that's just too much. Don't you think?
The rest: We don't think so!
7. Hera to Ezra, while on the wookie rescue mission
"One's life is precious, of course, but we're all born with something important to us. Dignity, family, even possessions... whatever the name it has, we won't let anyone to take that from us. What's yours, Ezra? What would you protect, even if it takes your own life?"
8. During the wookie rescue mission
Zeb (on the previous page): you idiot! What do you think you can even do on your own?
Ezra: A family that loves each other should never be parted!!!
9. Kanan, before Manoeuvre 22
"So, I'm finally gonna use you in a place like this. What does that mean, Force?"
10. Ezra, after realizing Kanan is a Jedi
"I... I also want to be like to be like that!!"
Hope you've enjoyed this, see you on Volume 2!

2019.05.03 08:11 trampolinebears Isquentaga verbs introduced

Most human tribes along the coast speak the language of the Isquentaga confederacy, or one closely related to it. Let's take a look at their verbs.
(Pronounced the same as IPA with the following exceptions: qu [kw], ch [tʃ], r [ɾ], y [j], ų [ʌ̃]. There are some morphophonemic rules that we won't get into here.)
Verbs take prefixes to show the person, number, and gender of their subject, and possibly their object. Most of these prefixes are the same as the noun possessive prefixes. A maximally-inflected verb:
subject-object-root
makaki
ma-ka-oki
1pl.excl-3pl-choose
We choose them.

Subject & Object Prefixes

Verbs inflect for their subject and (if they have one) their direct object, taking a prefix for each:
1sg i- I
2sg.masc ta- you (masc)
2sg.fem na- you (fem)
2sg.neut cha- you (neut)
3sg.masc ke- he
3sg.fem ni- she
3sg.neut ak- it
1pl.excl ma- we (just us)
1pl.incl po- we (including you)
2pl an- you (plural)
3pl ka- they
indef san- someone/something
q ho- who/what/which
These may be combined in any order, shown here with the verb me "see":
Itame. I see you. Kamame. They see us. Akasaname. It sees something. Aname? What do you see? (Or: You (pl) see you (fem). an-ho-ame and an-na-ame both become aname.)
Verbs generally do not take an object prefix if the object is explicitly stated elsewhere in the sentence:
Ikeme. I see it. Ime maqua. I see the mountain.
Object prefixes can be used even when not required to show the number of the object. Nouns cannot change to show number, but verbs can:
Ikesųt otsla. I ate an egg. Ikasųt otsla. I ate some eggs.

Reflexive & Reciprocal

When a verb takes the same prefix for both subject and object, it refers to one subject acting on another. In the singular, this can only be done with the third person:
ke-ke-pat
3sg.masc-3sg.masc-hit
He hits him (some other person).
A subject acting on itself uses the reflexive (refl) object prefix ska-:
ke-ska-pat
3sg.masc-refl-hit
He hits himself.
In the plural, these patterns take on further meaning. Using the same plural prefix for both subject and object refers to reciprocal action, where each subject acts upon another:
ma-ma-pat
1pl.excl-1pl.excl-hit
We hit each other.
To show that each subject acts upon itself, the reflexive prefix is needed:
ma-ska-pat
1pl.excl-refl-hit
We each hit ourselves.
Reflexive and reciprocal prefixes are used even when the participants are explicitly stated:
Pekta kakame. The enemies see each other. Pekta kaskame. The enemies each see themselves.
That's it for verbal inflection. There are a few ways to derive new words from verbs, and some ways to make compounds with verbs, but that's for another post. Thanks for reading!

2019.03.14 15:20 blufox Words to describe types of love in Malayalam

This was a recent post talking about different words for love in Greek. It makes me wonder what words we have for love in Malayalam.
What else?
(Without considering words like Aasha, Abhilasham, Talparyam which are different gradations of desire but not love, but which also can be used instead).

2014.12.30 14:54 hinduismtw narasimha ashTottara shatanAma stOtra - Post 6: Verse 21-26.

I apologize it took longer to post this, but I had to get clarifications from the guru before posting this. From here on the uses and effects (phala shRti) of this sloka starts. phala shRti roughly means the fruits of labor or chanting.
I also learnt that this also has to be chanted as part of the above everytime. Because it does not say the names end here in the above post (I have added it, but I will remove it shortly).
एवमष्टोत्तरशतं नाम्नां नृहरिरूपिणः ।
नरकेसरिणा दत्तं स्वप्ने शेषाय धीमते ॥
evamaShTottarashataM nAmnAM nRharirUpiNaH
narakEsariNA dattaM svapne sheShAya dhImate
This 108 names of the nRhari (half man, half lion) form of the Lord was given by narakEsari (man with a lions mane, again a name of the Lord) in a dream to the (dhImate) courageous sheSha.
sheSha here does not mean the very exalted god. It probably means someone named sheSha.
This is a very important sentence because lots of people see a lot of maMtrAs in their dreams. But they forget it in the morning. This person who saw it must've been someone very accomplished because he wrote it down. It is also very significant because this was said the narasimha himself.
These verses are not found in any purANAs or vedas, yet are being chanted in a lot of places by people of various schools. My teacher himself and some of my disciple friends have personal experience with the power of these and vouch for it's efficacy. My teacher has searched all the purANAs and hasn't found this in any, so this might've been seen more recently.
dhImate here means someone who has dhI. dhI can be any number of things, from courage, to knowledge, to ability to see God (enlightenment), to being able to live in the present.
सर्वपापप्रशमनं सर्वोपद्रवनाशनम् ।
आयुरारोग्यसंपत्तिपुत्रपौत्रप्रवर्धनं ।

sarvapApaprashamanaM sarvopadravanAshanam
AyurArogyasaMpattiputrapautrapravardhanaM
trikAlamekakAlaM vA paThan siddhimavApnuyAt
This is able to destroy all sins and is able to neutralize all troubles. It increases the lifespan, keeps one healthy, gives wealth and gives children and grandchildren to couples. Even if one chants it three times a day or once a day, one is able to gain its power.
If one chants this without any intentions, it is able to give all the above to the chanter.
यस्तु शृंखलय बद्धं पाशैः कारागृहेऽथवा ।
सहस्रं पाठयेद् विप्रैर्बंधाच्छीघ्रं प्रमुच्यते ॥
If one is in bound in chains (manacles, shackles, handcuffs) and in prison. If they can get a learned brahmin of peerless character to chant this 1000 times on their behalf, they will be released from this very soon.
Since learned brahmins of peerless character are practically non-existent, any one with a good character and pure of heart (preferrably a vaishNava :-) ) should be good enough.
शत्रुभिः पीडितो यस्तु कंठलग्नजले वसन् ।
आदित्याभिमुखस्तिष्ठन्नूर्ध्वबाहुः शतं जपेत् ।
स हरेदहितान् शीघ्रमेवमुच्छाटनं भवेत् ॥
shatrubhiH pIDito yastu kaMThalagnajale vasan
AdityAbhimukhastiShThannUrdhvabAhuH shataM japet
sa haredahitAn shIghramevamuchChAThanaM bhavet
If one is being troubled by enemies, he stands in neck deep water, with his hands in the air, facing the east and chants this a 100 times. He will be rid of his enemies and misfortunes that comes from them.
This should be used very carefully. If the enemy is particularly determined, it can end up killing him and the blood of his death will be on your hands. This is like a last resort super weapon and should never be used against almost anyone.
This happened to a teacher known by my guru, there was a guy who wouldn't give up on causing trouble. Exasperated, after years of living under threat, he asked 8-10 of his disciples to stand in neck deep water in the morning and each one chanted like 10-12 times to make 108 times. The guy ended up killing himself before the end of the day.
Chanting it regularly is more effective than waiting for bad stuff to happen to you and then chanting to get rid of it. Although vaishNava maMtrAs can never be used to harm innocents, it is still good to be careful.
महाव्याधिपरिग्रस्तो जपेद्धरिहरालये ।
स पुमानयुताव्रत्त्या व्याधिना प्रविमुच्यते ॥
mahAvyAdhiparigrasto japeddhariharAlaye
sa pumAnayutavrattyA vyAdhinA pravimuchyate
If one is afflicted with a major disease and if he chants (or gets some one to chant for him) 10000 times in a temple where both viShNu and shiva idols are present. Then he will be cured of the disease before long.
Whatever one is undergoing currently, good or bad is due to a type of karma called prArabdha. No one can completely get rid of this prArabdha. I mean both good and bad, sometimes a person who is of good character is destined to come upon a lot of money and turn into a douchebag. Although the world thinks it is a good thing, it really only aims to destroy the soul.
Diseases are due to past prArabdha karma. If the prArabdha is weak, then doing the above will cure the person. But if one has done really unspeakable things in the past, then whatever one does, it will not be cured. But it will lead to something good happening in some way.
Shiva is the patron diety of good health and narasimha is his in-dweller. That is shiva did some monumental amount of spiritual practice to please narasimha in the previous universes, which is why he became shiva and has 3 eyes, just like narasimha. This is also the reason that the domain of destruction has been given to shiva, as narasimha is mainly the destroyer of bad things.
यत्रकुत्र यथाशक्ति श्रीकामी सततं जपेत् ।
षण्मासाच्छ्रियामाप्नोति वृत्तिं चैवानपायिनीम् ।।
yatrakutra yathAshakti shrIkAmI sataM japet
ShaNmAsAchChriyAmApnoti vRttiM chaivAnapAyinIm
If one desires of a job or (slightly) more wealth to keep themselves from drowning in debt. If one chants this wherever and whenever according to their capacity, one gets a good job in six months.
Again if one is destined to poverty, no one can become like Bill Gates. But if one is jobless, pennyless and homeless then it will definitely help.
This combined with the above is especially important if you are living in the US, as the healthcare related bankruptcies are driving people homeless :-).
ब्रह्मराक्षस वेताळ पिशाचोरगराक्षसैः ।
प्राप्ते भये शतावृत्त्या तत् क्षणात् स विमुच्च्यते ॥
brahmarAkShasa vetALa pishAchoragarAkShsaiH
prApte bhaye shatAvRtyA tat kShaNAt sa vimuchchyate
If one is being harassed by brahmarAkShasa (brahmins who do unspeakable things and die become this), literally brahminic demons, vampires, poltergeists and demons. If one chants this 100 times, they will be rid of the harassment.
These are said to be creatures that live in the atmosphere, sort of float around in subtle form and cause accidents and afflictions to happen. They are generally found in plenty around places where animals are slaughtered is what the lore says. Anyway if you are vaishNava they stay the heck away from you generally. But some of them are very powerful and are waiting for you to slip up to do evil.
According to my fellow disciples of Indian descent, in Indian homes a house warming ceremony is conducted, after the house is built, where a thread is bound around the house and some maMtrAs are chanted, which give protection to the house. So normally they can't get in the house, but outside India, this is not done and the chances of these things causing harassment is more.
Take what I say with a pinch of salt, because all this is mostly what I have heard from other people. There are mentions of these in scriptures, but one need not lose sleep over these things.
यंयं चिंतयते कामं तंतं काममवाप्नुयात् ।
अकामि पठते यस्तु सततं विजितेंद्रियः ।
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः स याति परमां गतिम् ॥
yaMyaM chiMtayate kAmaM taMtaM kAmamavApnuyAt
akAmi paThate yastu satataM vijiteMdriyaH
sarvapApavinirmuktaH sa yAti paramAM gatim
Chanting this will fulfill all desires. But if a person who desires nothing other than God's love chants this, he will gain control over his senses and will eventually reach enlightenment.
Normally one should not ask for anything. It is said that children who do not expected anything from parents are the favorite of parents (only good parents not dumbasses). God is omniscient, he knows what to give to whom and when. It is also said that normally one gets more and better than what one deserves, if they do silent spiritual practice without expectation. But even if one has unfulfilled desires in the mind, it will also get fulfilled.
॥ इति श्रीनृसिंहाष्टोत्तरशतनामस्तोत्रं संपूर्णम् ॥
iti shRInRsiMhAShTottarashatanAmastotraM sampUrNam.
Here ends the 108 names of narasimha. I offer my obeisances to KRSNa.
श्री आखणाष्मांतर्गत श्री कृश्णार्पणमस्तु ॥
श्री भारतिरमण मुख्य्प्राणांतर्गत श्री कृश्णार्पणमस्तु - shrI bhArati ramaNa mukhya prANa AMtargata shRI kRSNArpaNamastu - shRI is here like Mr., is mukhya prANa the God of life, bhArati ramaNa is husband of bhArati, aMtargata is in-dweller, kRSNa is the Lord, arpaNamastu is offered by me. This type of offering, offering to the in-dweller of the God of life is the highest form of worship according to the vedas. There is a huge amount of philosophy behind consisting of karma theory and gods their stations and other things. But for now this translates to "I offer this (Chanting/singing/reading) to kRSNa the in-dweller of, the husband of bhArati, the God of life".
