Hi everyone,
first of all, this MAY be a bit long. I don't know though, so... i warned you. Also, i am going off memory and cutscenes of youtube (no way i'm replaying the whole story on a warlock/titan) so i may not report what people say verbatim, but bear with me.
I don't know if others made a similar post, but i FELT i had to. The theme of the whole expansion kinda resonated with me and i think bungie executed it perfectly. Also, i though about writing "underlying them", but this word makes me feel like it's something in the background, while it really is front and center. It's a main part of destiny but this time is really prominent. The theme i'm talking about is: life, death and moving forward.
I can already hear you say: duh, of course it's the theme of destiny, we die and keep reanimating! Yeah, but in the other expansions' campaigns there wasn't such a focus on this. For example, Forsaken is obviously about revenge and how it affects us and others (see one of my favorites lore pages, thin line. Chills everytime). Well, onto the main thing.
Of course, the whole life, death and moving forward thing can be seen in the TFS plot: the witness wants to freeze everything in our best moments, we want to live our lives. Let's go by steps anyway.
We start with meeting Cayde. He's been brought back to life by a wish of Crow, expressed through Riven. Now, Cayde himself says that he felt he was in a "peaceful nothing", there was even Sundance, then he was ripped by that. He felt whole while dead and already knew we were inside the traveler. It could be said that the traveler is like a god, when we die we go back to it,at least the guardians and the ghosts. I say this because Zavala in a cutscene while he's despairing says that this afterlife is not good if the people he wants to see aren't there.
There are the scenes of the reunions of Ikora and Zavala with Cayde: to be fair, our guardian's reaction is the only one i felt was "off", the Vanguard acts WAAAY more realistically when meeting a guy thought dead for like five years.
The scene at the campfire, all together, talking about Amanda. This is a great, great moment. Crow talks about her, can't finish the sentences, trembles. He still can't believe she isn't there anymore. And Cayde here acts like a guide, he says: "life isn't about holding on. [...] Eventually, you have to let go". I think he knows he's not staying forever, that he's an anomaly, held together somehow, not really "alive". We don't even know if he can leave the pale heart. After his words, we are given a moment of silence to reflect on them: Zavala feels them more than others because he still has regret about Safiyah and Hakim (hope i wrote them correctly).
This is the fate of all living things and for guardians, it's even worse: they don't age, don't die of sickness, are forced to watch their human friend get old and die. Being able to mourn and moving forward are necessary.
Talking about Zavala, he was tempted by the witness, given the choice to stay together with his wife, frozen in time. His character got a lot of development in the last 3/4 years, starting with stasis, then the lucent hive and the nightmares. Now, his desperation has reached the tipping point: he gives himself to darkness, ends up losing Targe. Another sacrifice in order to defeat the Witness, another loss. Remember what Sundance said? "what comes from the light returns to the light". Targe is back with the traveler, Zavala is human again, forced to come to terms with the perspective of his death. And yet, this time he manages to get back on his feet: he asks Ikora to help him learn Stasis, something he had not used until now. He accepts what happened, moves forward.
Another point is the mission Wild Card where Cayde forgives Uldren for killing him: they were dealt a hand and played as best as they could. Now he has got a new one. Crow becomes the new hunter vanguard, a new generation taking over after the old one is gone.
Cayde didn't want to stay forever i think. He wanted his life to have meaning and to end it on his own terms. In the final cutscenes, when he brings our ghost back to life, he lets us know that. What he does is his choice, the light connects all so he can revive our ghost. He is part of him and Cayde is part of our little light. Our ghost can feel him, Sundance too. We just have to move on, don't stop here. (Props to bungie for giving Cayde the line "nobody makes my fate but me")
The Witness too is a part of this. He sought to give order to the world, to end suffering, to "save" everyone by creating a world that stays still, where we're in our best moments: triumphs for the guardians, a loved one for zavala... And he doesn't understand. He cannot understand why people would oppose this fate (i didn't choose this word randomly). Why would people fight him, choose a life that is imperfect, filled with sadness and death, instead of an eternity of "happiness" (i guess???).
But this is the point of TFS. We're humans (yes, even the guardians). Life and death are part of our life. Those reborn in the light come back to life and die countless times, but have to deal with the passing of their mortal friends. When a guardian, a ghost dies, they go back to the traveler, where we'll find those gone before us. This is a reassuring thought.
And i think this all here is something beautiful.
END OF THE RANT: i know, it's a mess. There were so many things i wanted to say, in my head they all sounded good, but putting them "on paper" is hard. I apologize if i don't make sense but i felt the need to put these thoughts down. Maybe it's just for me, maybe i'll give others a new perspective. Anyway, i'll leave with the two sentences that in my opinion complete this whole post:

First off sorry for any spelling errors , i am typeing this on a whim and dont have time to go thru again , i know english i promise . Well where do i even begin with this mess , first lets get roblox jank , gliches , bugs and cheat detection out the way sience thats not up to them . The moderation team fucking sucks at doing their job , if you submit a ticket with proof and all theres about a 90% chance they will decline you without looking at it but its ok , i can deal with that , the biggestthey also abuse their powers (especially in chmie) going in with all kind of unobtainable weapons and enchants , imo that is not ok not to mention those weapons and enchants are absolutely busted , they should be balanced accordingly and made obtainable and while im at it i would like to mention not being able to get lightborn is some real bs , i wish they would maybe hold a tournament between the top 20 chime players that dont have lb or something weekly so that theres an actual way to get it if you work hard , that would be sick but no , they cant spare 30 minutes a week to do something like this for us . And regarding races why the fuck is there no way to reroll races without useing robux ? Like lemme reroll with echos or knowledge at a shrine or something , anything , and also the races are not balanced accordingly and matter very little , they should have tallents that actually change combat , like etreans are suposed to be imune to acid , well thats not the case cuz they cant properly code , they are also meant to get less time on buffs and debuffs , thats also not the case . If it was however for example that would be very cool , you could pull some fun stuff with poison , ignore charm debuffs , not need strong stern or mayne run into a pocket of acid when low but no cause we cant have nice shit can we? And now regarding slots i fullheartedly believe they should give you 3 or maybe even 5 starting out , i guess you can buy them and they are dirt cheap but i still feel like its a very greedy move seen as you need a minimum of 3 to you know , actually play. With revives i also have no problem except that you cant revive without robux . Like maybe let me ask yun shul to give me another shot in fragments and i can use statue for free , or maybe when u max rep with celtor , or for 500 echos , anything really . Some more boring stuff out the way , the activities like fishing mineing and choping trees have no point as the rewards are not worth the time at all , characters are 1 dimensional and only serve to die or give you something for the sake of progressing plot , the world feels dead , the ai is trash and theres way too much chesse . Balance i wont even commeont on , you know it , i know it , its absolute dogshit and thats not gonna change , they claim to revisit the broken stuff and want to rework it ? Yeah right just like you did to jetstriker , i mean its not bad its much better than before but they missed the silver lineing , fighting jetstriker sucked not only because the opponent could run away , it sucked cuz he could just keep you at mid range , use gale and thunder to poke you down with little counterplay if you are not a mage silentheart or blindseer , guess what ? Thats still a problem . The weapons are extremely unballanced as well and so are the atunements mantras and enchants equipment and everything else , if they cared to fix it it would take well over a month of actual daily balance changes not the bullshit they are doing now . Pvp is curently in a 1 shot meta , chime , guildwars , voidwalking , doesent matter the fight always ends in less than 30 seconds thanks to chesse , the infamous ragdoll into bomb that has no counteplay , potions and assassin builds (dont get me wrong im an assassin build enthusiast myself but they are FAR too busted in this game like wtf) . Pve is boring too , everything is eighter easy or unfair , its all easy except for the ocasional stat sponge like a kyrsgarde gangbang or broodlord that do over 1 bar per hit and have as much hp as duke . Theres nothing fun to do except combat , the world feels dead and so very lackluster and boring , the lore sucks sience its not expanded on , altough a great concept . Now lets talk about vw , as a vw myself i dont think it should take a life when the voidwalker kills you , like you die and lose your stuff but you dont get stained for example , but i dont think it should be the same for when you kill the vw sience then he could just level without consequence , vw should also not be able to take bounties on ppl with more than 3 level diffrence up or down and shouldnt be allowed to do to1 , instead their first 5 bounties give 2 levels each if successful , and they should also get like a damage taken from mobs multiplier till max lvl so that you get dettured from pve , that would be great. also i think u should be able to get the tracking outline beep ocasionally on all bounties , not just voidwalk , like do a quest for it and then get it on the slot .that would not make it go to origin , now regarding origins they all have little going for them atm theres no reason to not pick deluvian for pve and vw for anything else . Also we need more goddamn origins like some that start in layer 2 at lvl 10 and you need to kill chaser or start fort merit at lvl 6 or start in voidsea , meteor isle , hive , stuff like that would be so sick but no instead we get ysleys pyre that has 5 crits and 2 passives that all have the special effect of makeing you want to kill yourself . I could talk about so many more issues like no new luminant , no layer 3 for 2 years or no more lore being dropped but ass of now if they could fix all of this by the end of the year i would be ecstatic and truly greatful , its seems they cant and wont learn , they are leting the flame of this game burn out just like they did to rogue a good bit ago . All it needs is a litlle kindeling wich given how much money they have and how many talented pepole wouldnt turn them down should take them a mere 2 months if even that , but then again ragoozer and archmage dont give a shit. I have created a small interactive website on the Letby case. The goal is to succinctly outline some of the key problems of the case.
It includes two interactive elements, a shift chart selection tool which lets you pick any nurse from a set of random data and shows for any of them you get the same “single common factor” chart.

**Trigger warning for in-depth discussion of the deaths and bodies of children*\*
Many of you probably know the story of the Unknown Child, or Body #4 – the body of a baby boy recovered from the sea shortly after the sinking of the Titanic and buried in Halifax’s Fairview Cemetery. Unidentified for years, he was speculated to be either Gosta Palsson or Eugene Rice, tentatively identified with DNA analysis as Eino Panula in 2002, and definitively identified through improved DNA testing in 2007 as Sidney Goodwin. The Unknown Child has come to represent all the young lives who were lost in the disaster.
However, much less well-known is the mystery of Body #1. Pulled from the icy Atlantic on April 21st 1912 by the cable ship Mackay Bennett, the body of an approximately 10-12-year-old boy was the first of 337 Titanic victims to be recovered. Officially, Body #1 was identified as Walter John van Billiard, a 9-year-old third-class boy who perished along with his father Austin and 10-year-old brother James William. He was buried next to his father, whose body was also recovered, in the Whitemarsh Union Cemetery of Zion Lutheran Church, Flourtown, Pennsylvania. However, doubt has always lingered among Titanic researchers and enthusiasts over the true identity of the body. In this post, I’ll examine the case for and against the body’s identification as Walter Van Billiard, investigate some other possibilities for its identity, and summarize my findings.
A few disclaimers: firstly, I’m not a professional, just someone who’s been interested in the Titanic (and specifically its child/teen passengers) for a long time.
Secondly, although I’ve never seen a detailed write-up on Body #1 before, others have discussed this topic and arrived at similar conclusions as mine, so I’m not breaking any entirely new ground here.
Finally, this post isn’t meant to disrespect or offend any of the Van Billiard family or to shatter the idea of a father and son resting beside each other. I’m just trying to take a critical look at the identification of Body #1 and suggest some alternate possibilities.
Approximately 115 Titanic passengers and crew under the age of 18 were lost, and very few of their bodies were ever found. In attempting to identify one of them, I hope to honour them all.

Part I: The Van Billiards

Walter and James van Billiard (photo here) were the two eldest sons of Austin Blyler van Billiard and Maude Murray. One or both boys had been born in Paris, France, but spent most of their lives in Africa, where the family was engaged in diamond mining. By April 1912, the Van Billiards had had four more children and wanted to return to Austin’s family in North Wales, Pennsylvania. They travelled to London, where Maude fell ill. It was decided that she would stay there with her parents and her four youngest children to recuperate, while Austin would take James and Walter ahead to America. Austin’s parents had never met any of their grandchildren before, and he wanted them to spend Easter together. Tragically, they booked third-class on the RMS Titanic, and the rest is history. No survivor accounts mention the Van Billiards by name, so it is unknown how they passed their time on the ship or how exactly they met their ends. A newspaper article (Daily Home News, April 23rd 1912) suggests the boys may have refused to leave their father, but it’s equally likely they simply arrived on deck too late to have the option of boarding a lifeboat.
What is known is that two bodies purported to be members of the Van Billiard family were later recovered and sent to Austin’s relatives in Pennsylvania for burial. Body #255, that of an approximately 40-year-old man with a dark red beard and moustache, was identified as Austin. Body #1, allegedly young Walter, was described as such:
No. 1 – MALE – ESTIMATED AGE. – 10-12. – HAIR. LIGHT.
CLOTHING – Overcoat, grey; one grey coat; one blue coat; grey woolen jersey; white shirt; grey knickers; black stockings; black boots
EFFECTS – Purse containing few Danish coins and ring; two handkerchiefs marked “A”.
Probably Third Class.
Furthermore, the “Inventory of the property found on the body of the late W. VanBilliard” adds that the purse also contained one United States cent and “three wooden disks.” This document can be viewed online at the Nova Scotia Archives website. Interestingly, “Unable to identify from clothing or effects” has been written across the middle of the page in pencil. Further down, it says “Remains shipped. See #255.”
Right off the bat, it's unclear why Body #1 was identified as that of 9-year-old Walter, as opposed to 10-year-old James – or, in fact, why a connection with the Van Billiards was made at all. The Philadelphia Inquirer of May 8th 1912, reporting on the arrival of the bodies in Pennsylvania, states that identification was made “through the Red Cross Society and papers found on their persons.” However, no such papers are mentioned among the effects found on either body, despite this being common practice for the descriptions of Titanic victims’ bodies.
It is also noteworthy that no member of the Van Billiard family was reported as having identified or even viewed the bodies. Identification would, of course, have taken place at Halifax, where the recovered bodies were brought before being buried there or forwarded elsewhere, and I could find absolutely nothing to suggest that any Van Billiard travelled to Halifax to view them. The North American newspaper of May 8th 1912 states quite clearly that Austin’s father, Burgess James van Billiard, was in Pennsylvania when the bodies arrived. Maude and the other children were still in England, and in fact would not make the trip to America until February 1913, almost a full year after the disaster.
Moreover, it must be remembered that none of the Van Billiard family members in America had ever seen their grandsons. They may have seen photographs of them, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they’d be able to identify a body which had spent six days floating in the freezing ocean. There are stories from other maritime disasters of the era, such as the General Slocum (1904), the Eastland (1915), and the Princess Sophia (1918) of children’s bodies being misidentified (or dubiously identified), even by close relatives. Therefore, even if Burgess van Billiard or another family member had seen Body #1, would that have conclusively proven that it was Walter (or James)? Or would it simply be a case of a grief-stricken human being clinging to the belief that their loved one was one of the few recovered from an icy grave?
According to Judith Geller’s Titanic: Women and Children First, “popular reports” of the time stated that Austin’s body was found with Walter’s clasped to his chest. However, as she goes on to state, this was not the case. This can be seen plainly from the numbers of the bodies, which were assigned in the order that they were retrieved. Body #1 was recovered on April 21st, while Body #255 would not have been picked up until April 25th, according to the diary of Mackay Bennett crewman Clifford Crease. Therefore, identification of Body #1 cannot have been made by its proximity to Austin Van Billiard.
The effects found upon Body #1 also do nothing to prove, or even suggest, that the body was that of Walter Van Billiard. It is true that the handkerchiefs marked “A” could have belonged to Austin, but “A” could stand for many other names of those on board the Titanic. The Danish coins are a tantalizing clue, but none of the Van Billiard family was known to have lived in or visited Denmark. (Of course, it’s possible that the coins could have been misidentified – perhaps they were actually Belgian or Boer, as the Van Billiards lived in both the Belgian Congo and South Africa; or Dutch, as Austin Van Billiard is known to have visited Amsterdam shortly before embarking on the Titanic. (Perhaps the “A” handkerchief was a souvenir from the city?) However, these are only theories.)
It has never been conclusively accepted by Titanic researchers and enthusiasts that Body #1 is that of Walter Van Billiard. Walter’s entry on Encyclopedia Titanica contains the footnote: “Because of the effects recovered with the body there has to be some doubt over the authenticity of the identification.” Similarly, Women and Children First states that “the body might in fact have easily been that of another Third Class boy.” That book’s section on the Van Billiards ends with the somber observation that “a monument to [the] husband and two sons … stands in the Whitemarsh Union Cemetery, but only two (and perhaps one) of them lie beneath it.” Whether or not Walter van Billiard was truly Body #1, one hopes that this (mis?)identification brought some solace to his surviving family members.

Part II: Other Possibilities

With it being established that there is no conclusive proof that body #1 belonged to either of the Van Billiard boys, let us examine other possibilities. I have assembled a list of all male Titanic victims between the ages of 8 and 14 whose bodies were never found. The reason for extending this range is that the estimated ages given to bodies were not always entirely accurate. For example, the body of 12-year-old William Sage was estimated to be 14, the body of 16-year-old Rossmore Abbott was estimated as 22, and the body of 17-year-old Ernest Price was estimated as 26.
Our candidates are:
  1. Eugene Joseph Abbott, 13
  2. Filip Oscar Asplund, 13
  3. Clarence Gustaf Hugo Asplund, 9
  4. William Neal Thomas Ford, 14
  5. Charles Edward Goodwin, 14
  6. William Frederick Goodwin, 13

Now, let us look at each of these boys in turn and examine the evidence for and against them being Body #1.
Eugene Joseph Abbott:
William Neal Thomas Ford:
Little is known about Ford, an English youth emigrating to the USA with his extended family and a family friend. None of their bodies are known to have been recovered (although they may be among the unidentified). He has no known connection to the letter A or to the nation of Denmark. Therefore, I see him as among the most unlikely of these boys to be Body #1.
William Andrew Johnston:
William Johnston, a cousin of William Ford, is a slightly more likely candidate for two reasons. Firstly, his father’s name (and his own middle name) was Andrew, providing a connection to the letter A. Secondly, in the one photo of him provided by the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge,* he appears to have had light hair.
Albert and George Rice:
Filip and Clarence Asplund:
I believe the Asplund boys are the strongest possible candidates for body #1, due to the following evidence:
If I had to choose between the two Asplund boys for the true identity of body #1, I would suggest that it was 9½ year old Clarence, rather than 13-year-old Filip, due to the fact that those identifying the body clearly deemed it likely to belong to a 9-year-old. However, I think either boy is a likely option.

Part III: Conclusion

None of this is to say that I think the body couldn’t have been one of the Van Billiard boys. After all, there had to be *something* that caused Walter Van Billiard to be singled out amongst all the other possible candidates. Any of the clues I pointed out in this post may have been red herrings.
Maybe the “A” handkerchiefs were a parting gift from a friend whose first or last name started with that letter, or a souvenir of some city the boy had visited. Maybe the Danish coins were simply picked up off the deck, or given to this boy by a Danish passenger for whom he had done a favor. Maybe the age estimate was far off, and the boy was actually a tall 7-year-old or a very young-looking 15-year-old. Maybe Walter really is resting alongside his father in Union Cemetery, Flourtown, Pennsylvania. In the end, unless DNA analysis is ever done, we will never know the true identity of body #1.
My personal ranking of likelihood, out of all the boys examined, is:
  1. Clarence or Filip Asplund (in that order), aged 9 and 13
  2. Walter or James Van Billiard, aged 9 and 10
  3. Eugene Abbott, aged 13
  4. Albert or George Rice (in that order), aged 10 and 8
  5. William Andrew Johnston, aged 8
  6. William Neal Thomas Ford, aged 14
  7. Harold, William, or Charles Goodwin (in that order), aged 10, 13, and 14 – I might even bump Harold (and possibly William) up higher than William Ford due to their younger age.
  8. Frederick Hopkins or William Watson, aged 14
  9. George Frederick Sweet, aged 14 (almost 15)
  10. Husayn Ibrahim, aged 11, or Betros Seman, aged 10
  11. Anthony William Sage, aged 12 – borderline impossible as Will Sage’s ticket was found on body #67, meaning that was almost certainly him. Perhaps an onboard friend of his had stolen his ticket as a prank, or they had switched tickets to keep as mementoes of each other, but I find this quite unlikely.
  12. Karl Thorsten Skoog, aged 11 – impossible; his missing or prosthetic leg would certainly have been noted.
The true tragedy of Body #1 is the fact that there are so many possible candidates for its identification. In memory of all these boys and their families who were lost on the morning of April 15th 1912.
\I have some doubts about the veracity of some photographs from the Titanic Pigeon Forge Museum, but the vast majority of the photos I've seen from there are genuine. I can elaborate further in the comments if anyone is interested.)

Okay Reddit strap in and hear me out, because this gonna be long…
As much as I appreciate James Gunns abilities to create interesting content I literally have no desire and don't understand why anyone else, would want to watch a Superman movie.
Superman is an uninteresting character at its core. Superman is only interesting when either deconstructed (see The Dark Knight Returns), lampooned (see Homelander and The Boys), or is being analyzed through another lens in something like Elseworlds (Red Sun).
The entire concept of Superman is quite frankly really stupid.
He's invulnerable, can only be beaten by a green rock, and literally has the ultimate plot armor of any comic book hero. Oftentimes, the interesting thing about Superman is again when he's being recreated like Mr Majestic in the Wildcats or I assume Sentry in the Avengers. I've never really read too many of those but I kind of get the gist that Sentry is supposed to be a Superman representative.
People's obsession with seeing and wanting to have a Superman movie makes zero sense to me. We've had multiple films made about Superman, and just to be clear, I am not a Snyder super fan. I do appreciate some of his work, and I also will never watch the second Rebel Moon movie because that first one was about the worst thing I've ever watched. Ok, if I get bored or there is enough booze I might.
To be clear, I'm not trying to gatekeep the intellectual property of Superman, I just think it's an idea that was invented in a much simpler time, and honestly is very stupid at this point. And don't even get me started on the Fantastic Four. Yes, it's got Pedro but I have no desire to watch a Fantastic Four movie either. This is yet another stupid 60’s comic book that quite frankly should have gone away a long time ago.
But, I digress.
The endless cry for a feel-good Superman movie that reflects his positive behavior is again unnecessary because the character is quite frankly stupid. There's nothing interesting about Superman. I'm sorry.
Well, sorry not sorry. From the DC slate of intellectual properties there are numerous other examples of amazingly more interesting characters to choose from. You have The Warlord, Arion, Lord of Atlantis, the Perez era run of the Teen Titans, or Batman and The Outsiders. There are dozens of better examples.
Let's not even get started on the numerous independent comics that could also be drawn upon. Like Baron and Rude’s Nexus, or the Badger, or a really good Cerebus movie. Or some of the better Image comics era of IP. Come on the Savage Dragon is great!
I mean really, it's disturbing that none of the Jim Starlin properties have made it to screen at this point, with the exception of Thanos. Give me a Dreadstar TV show ASAP!
But again, I digress. Superman is stupid, I'm sorry.
The only times he is interesting is when he is the MacGuffin of a story. Why are people so obsessed with seeing the boy scout in blue on the big screen?
I personally have no idea. And as much as I will probably watch the new Superman movie, I don't understand the obsession no matter the age, with a character that has quite frankly zero personality, and again has infinite plot armor.
I think that taking materials such as Peacemaker, we've seen James make an amazing inroad into offering up lesser known characters and making really great opportunities for storytelling around them.
So why do we have to suffer through yet another spandexed blue underwear character saving the world, when we know he's going to, and that's all we're ever going to get.
I get it, people love Superman. But you know what, I don't, and I don't see why people are so stupid.
There are dozens of better intellectual properties between DC, Marvel, and all the independent comics that come out for the last 30 years if not more. Can we please get these stories told? Why is it so hard to do things that are interesting and better?
I think one of the greatest examples is the Daredevil Netflix show and the upcoming extension of it. Here is a lesser known character that is super interesting that has ultimately become a part of our zeitgeist and part of the mass media, because it's a great story to tell. You can knock all the lesser Netflix marvel TV shows, yes we're looking at you Iron Fist. But collectively, these are some of the best storytelling we've seen to date.
What is the endless draw again for the boy scout? Nobody cares.
Okay so I don't care.
DC has a multitude of properties to choose from. I was never the biggest Lobo fan, but I know that people would love to see those stories told. What about the Legion of Superheroes, what about smaller lesser known superheroes and/or villains like Peacemaker? Oh wait, that worked…
Let's face facts, DC's intellectual property is much weaker than Marvel’s, and in my opinion is much weaker than the independent comics that can be drawn upon to create films and television shows from.
I think James's ultimate folly here is focusing on the big blue, because it's supposedly what “people want*, and not focusing on the more interesting stories that DC has provided us over the years.
Look, to date some of the best Marvel content has come in the form of things like Logan, Deadpool and the Netflix TV shows. This is why the showrunners and creators have leveraged the core storytelling elements to really tell interesting stories about things are passionate about.
Who in their right mind is passionate about Superman? Not me. Not my kids. It ultimately feels like somehow it's an expectation to fulfill some boomers dream about telling the Superman story on the big screen. And you know what, boomers are pretty freaking stupid.
So, am I the 10th dentist or am I right?
Either way I don't care just to be clear. But I'd like us to move past us needing to go through the golden, and then the silver, and then the modern age of comics to get to the good stuff because you know what there's so much more good stuff that isn't a guy who flies around in blue spandex with a red cape,

These evolved to be smaller, but hunt different, than Orcas of Today. They don't live in cold oceans anymore. They live in packs. They rip out the chunks of prey, and once a Titan Whaler dies, they are going to have a feast. They only use this plan rarely, usually they hunt smaller prey.
Collosus Shark
Ancestor: Great White Shark
Length: 9 m
Whale-rammers aren't the largest predators here. Collosus Shark is even larger. It's a Solitary hunter, with one of the most powerful bites in history. They give live birth, and they are caring parents of their children. They have similar coloring as their ancestors, Great White Sharks.

These are the most common animals here, aside from Spectaclefins. They evolved to be herbivorous. They live in large packs. These Oceans are full of resources, so the giant packs can live well. They coexist peacefully with regular Tunas, and Spectaclefins

The Smaller predators still exist in the seas. Sea-Catfish are second group of Wels Catfish, that evolved, to live in the seas. they hasn't changed much, aside from the fact, that they live in saltwater. They feed on smaller fish, and hide from larger predators

Ancestor: European Eel
Length: 2 m
These evolved to be another herbivores. they evolved from animals, that already can survive in the Saltwater: the European Eel. They are extremely common, and adaptable, meaning, that they have potential, to evolve. they can live in rivers, Warm Oceans, and even in Cold Oceans.
Sea-Pike
Ancestor: Northern Pike
Length: 1,8 m
These are Predators size of humans. they are another Example of River Fauna coming to the oceans. They usually don't change much, aside from the fact, that they are adapted to the saltwater. these Pikes hide in Seagrass, and then attack.

There's workarounds for regular wars but in legends and when attacking you really need to zoom in and even then it's hard to tell. 2: Any possibility of changing replays so that they show the real time relative to the attacker? For example, if my clanmate clutched out an attack with 1 second left the replay won't really show that (unless you're counting the full 3 minutes from the start) 3: Continuing on with replays, is there any possibility of an updated UI to show which hero equipment are being used? This is moreso for when you're on youtube or some other media player and can't click on the hero to see. This would be a great addition for spectators of esports for clash 4: Will there be any more updates for the tutorial levels? Those could go a long way for some of the newer players. They could even teach "fundamentals" rather than full-on attacks. 5: Last question, more of a curiosity: What is the tiebreaker for war weight when 2 players are the exact same. 15 Is there any consideration towards giving the Air Sweeper new levels that are either purely cosmetic to match the base, or perhaps have a very minor hit point upgrade and a new cosmetic design? It matches pretty well with TH16 currently, but not with multiple town halls before that and probably not with most future town halls. Yeah we've had considered the cosmetic/HP only Air Sweeper levels a few times on the team but it always felt like an unsatisfying upgrade. We also briefly experimented with giving the Air Sweeper an extra damage effect BUT we didn't find something that was meaningful without killing certain air strategies. 16 What's the big update team is working on? Like Clan War League,Clan Capital was being worked on since long time. Currently we're working on a mix of more medium sized things than another megaproject like Clan Capital. That's working better for us to bring y'all improvements and cool things steadily. 17 Hello Stuart, I have 2 questions I want to ask you about CWL. Is there a reason why in CWL there can only be 15 people or 30 people at once participating in rounds? And is there plans to make options for 20 to 25 people participating in CWL (Below champions league), to be a thing in the future? It basically comes down to making sure we have enough Clans at different sizes in each League for things to behave sensibly. 20 Hi! I believe this will be a great opportunity to ask this question! For the future of Clash of Clans, since there are now many event troops added to the game, will there be a possibility to add a barrack for those troops? As bases gets more and more complex throughout the updates, having a bigger variety for attacks would not only encourage players to play more, but also to have a crazier and more amazing attacks to watch in the pro scene! I do understand that some event troops may be OP, so some could be reworked/nerfed and it could work similar to the super troop barrack, where you can only activate a certain amount of those troops One of the things we like about event troops is that they're only around for a short while. That lets us go a bit wilder and weirder sometimes than if something was gonna be in the game forever. Sorry to disappoint but it's very unlikely we'd let people use event troops "out of season". Maybe if we had the equivalent of a "creative" mode we could let players try out all the chaos though? Then there's no worries about balance. State of the game: How do you envision the state of esports going forward & how do you plan to tackle the current state of balance - for example are there any plans to create a separate balance state for players competing in leagues / tournaments & how far would this extend to everyday areas of the game? i.e cwl / legends / war Both wars & legend league have remained largely unchanged since their inception & whilst they’re both still enjoyable cornerstones of the game, they’ve grown to become repetitive / stale in their current format at times - does the team have any plans to breathe new life into these modes? QoL: Obstacles that have been previously moved with a shovel but are not currently stashed are required to be re-placed every time you open a new layout through the link feature. Would it be possible to change this so that they remain fixed in position by default? Any plans to revamp donating to make it less awkward so that you’re not required to manually retrain & drag & delete your army every time you donate? i.e some sort of auto-queue feature Could we see more skin randomiser customisation options / presets in future? i.e a day / night scenery randomiser & a toggle for matching hero skins & sceneries? Any plans to finish pre-existing skin lines? eg. clockwork champ I’d love to have the option to listen to the ambient scenery background sounds unique to each scenery w/o the scenery music, is this something you’d consider implementing if feasible? We're planning to introduce an optional Hard Mode that can be used for Friendly Challenges and Friendly Wars. This will be introduced in our June update. The exact settings of what that mode will be are still TBD and the plan is to make further adjustments to it based on community feedback. It would be used for the world finals this year. We'll think about if and how we might use this in other areas of the game. The skill gap in our players is extremely wide. Some are wanting a really tough experience while others, who are still very loyal active players are looking for something more chill. It was clear from TH15 that we overshot the mark on what that more casual audience were looking for. We're hoping to give players more choice in difficulty and their experience in future. 25 Hello Stuart. How come your team has decided to nerf the defence at th10-th15 even when the game has already been made easier in December 2023? Surely with the new hero equipment which gave a massive boost to the heroes the game didn't need to get any easier right? I am asking since there was a big backlash after the first wave of defence nerfs so nerfing the defences for a second time wouldn't that make the game too easy for those who are looking for a challenge? Lastly, will there anything be added to clash of clans in the future to those who would like a challenge? Like a challenge mode to clan wars (one attack clan wars or clan wars that remain the same but with buffed defence or restricted cc etc). We have set targets on the 3 star rates we'd like to see at different Town Halls. As we add more Town Halls and speed up the progression, what used to be the endgame hardest content ends up actually turning up pretty early in player's time with the game. Town Hall 12 actually had the 2nd lowest 3 star rate for a while recently. So we will always need to go make adjustments to get things back on track. Part of the long-term solution here is also to build better tools for players to learn better strategies. The game actually does a terrible job of making that discoverable right now without going outside of the game and watching creator videos. We'd definitely want to improve on this and happy to hear people's ideas on what might work here. I've posted elsewhere about our Hard Mode idea we're testing out for those looking for a harder challenge. 27 Why isn't there a mechanic that incentives game time or time on app? As an active player, I am almost always ONLY waiting for builders and almost always with full storages (or close enough that there's zero point doing anything). It actually incentivizes me to play less or not at all. Why not a small builder boost per attack star earned (relative to league placement)? Eg. if you 3 star a base in Titan, you get a 10 minute builder boost or something. Seems counterintuitive to voluntarily limit play time and time on app. There should be some reward, even small, for wanting to play more. Our timers are too long and we are working to bring them down. We agree too often active people get blocked with nothing to do by timers. But we also don't want those active players to run out of things to upgrade and are playing for. So we want to introduce more systems to the game that let us add more to do and play for. It'll take time to build those systems but as we have more of them our average timers will shrink. At the same time at Supercell we don't believe infinite play time is healthy for players in the long run either. So having timers and similar mechanics is needed somewhat. We don't want Clash to be a game where people feel they have to play X hours a day, as that discourages people from even trying it. 29 Why did you remove the little grass overlay from th16 buildings? They look like they float now. This is what it looks like in buildings for th15 and below. Can you bring it back please? The grass overlays looked really odd on those smoother floored sceneries (Shadow Scenery). But the floatiness on grass sceneries without em isn't ideal. We're trying to figure out a technical solution that won't involve having double the download size of all our buildings. 34 As per latest report, coc would be releasing new townhall level after every 12 month. Even though there are curs being made at cost or time for upgrades, for low level townhall catching up sure seems impossible. And walls after th14 is a nightmare unless the game has already been beaten. How would this be addressed? 2. Due to the limited size of home Village, with new Townhall levels, there will be limited building that can be added, there's not much fun in it, if new buildings or elements don't come in from time to time right? How will this be addressed We will keep up with cost and time cuts to upgrades in order to help lower level folk catch up. We have quite a big set coming in our June update. I agree Wall costs are a bit silly and we should probably think again. Originally they were a bit of a stretch goal for loot to get sunk in. But maybe the game doesn't need that now there's more things to do. Our plan is to use merging more in future to keep the number of buildings in the Village reasonable. That gives us the space to introduce more new buildings with future Town Hall releases. Our current thinking is new defenses are exciting for a few Town Halls and then become less interesting. So your village should always be filled with relatively new and interesting defenses, even if that means sadly waving goodbye to that first Cannon you upgraded way back when you started. That everything has to be merged to get new buildings? Clash thrives on a social battlefront, and I knew I have more fun in clans with my friends, it can make any grind less tedious. But it has always felt like it was lacking that little bit EXTRA you know? Some possible updates that my friends have made up were: Self Clan Wars: Start a quick war within your own clan to practice without the stress of needing a 3 star every time. It could be a separate tab, similar as to how you can see prep day for the following day in CWL. An auto-Donate replacement feature (can be toggled on and off), where the troop you donate is instantly remade and shuffled to the front, would be a nice QoL change This sounds really stupid, but like, maybe a friendly mode where you can attack with modifiers to spice it up. IE: Defenses do 1.5x damage BUT you have 10 xtra spell slots, or the defensive targeting is switched. just stupid crap like that can bring a little life into an attack. Legends League base are for the trophy attacks and home village base for the ’loot attacks’. This would make ’fake legends farming’ pointless. Thanks! 46 What do you have in mind for the general direction that the game is going in? Can we expect any new fundamental addition (i.e. another system like ores)? Getting organized to sit down and write a major term paper is such a daunting task for us folks with ADHD. As a student I would have vague ideas of what I want to write, but lacked the executive function to get to the job done. I would stare at a blank Word doc, type a sentence, delete a sentence, repeat. Unexpected for a writing major, I know. Are you looking for a way to break out of this cycle?
May I present: the Index Card Method.
As a high school student in the 1990s, I was forced to use this method to write a ten page senior thesis. Nearly all senior level English classes in my school used this method. Prior to that year, I had seen students carrying around fat stacks of index cards, protecting them like their ability to graduate depended on them. It did. I begrudgingly followed this methodical approach even though it wasn't "the way I write." Ironically, I found it so helpful I continued using this method throughout college, and admittedly even in grad school 25 years later.
What is it?
It's a low-tech system of organizing your sources, topics, details, citations, and anything else that goes into your paper.
Why low-tech?
It is a hands-on process loaded with sensory actions. Physically handling and arranging the index cards helps me focus on a task. Filling out an index card and setting it aside and then picking up another FEELS productive. Seeing a growing pile of index cards as you move through the project LOOKS like productivity. These sensory activities boost my momentum.
The best part of this method is how it breaks down a mountain of a project into smaller tasks without requiring me to create a big plan before I can start working on it. The size of each task is literally the size of an index card. Plus, it is an opportunity to use those cool pens you bought the last time you said you would start journaling.
The Index Card Method cannot be done the night before a paper is due, at least I wouldn't try it anyway. If you don't like writing outlines or drafts, give this method a try - but if you're cramming, do give yourself a week to get it done.
How does it work?

Step 1: Cards

Get some 3x5 index cards. For a 10-page, double spaced paper, you will need around 300 cards.
Do not get 150 4x6 cards. They must be 3x5.
For this post, I will assume anyone following this method is using lined index cards. It does not matter if the cards are lined, but know that when I say "On the top line write..." I mean where the actual top line of the card would be. This also means you will be writing across width of the cards in landscape orientation, meaning a full line of text on a 3x5 card runs 5 inches, not 3 inches.
There are two simple, but vital rules to remember when creating cards.
  1. Only write on one side of the card. Leave the other side blank. You will need to see all of a card's contents at a quick glance.
  2. If you make a mistake on a card, immediately tear it in half so it doesn't get mixed up with the ones you want to keep.

Step 2: Thesis card

You will only have a thesis card if you are writing a thesis (argument) paper.
In the center of the top line of your thesis card, write "Thesis Statement."
Now write your thesis statement below that.

Step 3: Topic cards

In the center of the top line write "Topic." Below that, write the name of a topic related to your thesis statement.
Topics should be broad, written as one or two words. Create as many topic cards as you think you will need. You can always create more later, so don't get stuck on this part.
Example: topics related to a thesis on the healthcare industry may include: Insurance, Costs, Medicare, Medicaid, Prevention, Prescription Drugs, Hospitals, etc.

Step 4: First Layout

Spread out your topic cards on a table. Select the broadest topics and line them up in a row in the order in which you would like them in your paper. Now arrange the narrower topics in columns below the broad topics in the order that makes sense to you. Using the example of the healthcare industry in the previous step, "Costs" may be a broad topic with "Insurance" and "Prescription Drugs" listed beneath it.
Split a topic if you need to. "Costs" could also be split into "Consumer Costs" and "National Costs", then "Insurance" and "Prescription Drugs".
Don't expect to have a lot of topic cards at this point. You may only have one or two subtopics for each broad topic. This is fine. You can always add more as you go along.
Take a picture of your topic cards in this arrangement.
Congratulations, you just made an outline!
Now type it out. Title it "Preliminary Outline."

Step 5: Sources

Go find sources you would like to use for your paper. When you find a source you would like to use, create a bibliography card.

Step 6: Bibliography cards

In the center of the top line write "Bibliography".
In the upper left hand corner of the card on the top line, write the number "1", as it is your first Bibliography card. This is your source ID.
Now write the complete and proper reference of your source, formatted according to your citation style. Include doi links, if applicable. Where italic font is used in a citation, underline it on your card.
Open a new document file. Title it "References", "Works Cited", etc., depending on your citation style. Type out your bibliography cards in the order appropriate to your citation style. Most likely they will be alphabetical by author. As you find more sources and write out bibliography cards, add them to this document.
About citation styles:
A citation style is a way to reference your sources, specifically how you list them out and how you identify where you found a fact or quote.
If you are in highschool, your teacher will tell you how to write write and format sources and citations. If they don't, ask.
If you are an undergrad, most professors don't care which style you choose, but they want it consistent. If this is the case, I recommend using APA or MLA because they use simple, in-line citations.
If you are a graduate student, use the appropriate style for your field. If your reference style uses foot notes or end notes, please be aware you may need to create citation IDs later to help you stay organized.

Step 7: Read and Highlight

As you read through your sources, highlight anything that stands out to you that you may want to use in your paper.
This is where I would normally say it does not matter if your sources are printed or digital, but for many of us it does matter. Stepping away from technology is one the reasons I find this method so effective. I encourage you to print articles or photocopy sources when possible.
Your school likely has access to full-text articles online that can be downloaded as PDFs and printed later.
If your source is text from a website, right click on in the body of the text and select Print. When the print window pops up, select PDF (or Adobe PDF) as your printer. In the next pop up, select where you would like to store your file. Your source is now saved as a PDF. By the way, printing to a PDF is the easiest way to save a file while maintaining its formatting. Try it from any program. Now when you print it to paper, it will look like the PDF.

STEP 8: Detail cards

In the center of the top line write the topic related to the highlighted text. If you do not have a related topic card, make one.
In the upper left corner on the top line, write the source ID that matches the one on its respective bibliography card.
In the upper right corner on the top line of each card write the page number(s) from your source as "p 87" or "pp 87-88". If your source does not have page numbers, write your source's equivalent as it applies (act/scene numbers, time stamp, etc.). Look up a style reference guide for requirements.
Now in your own words, write about an area you highlighted. If you want to directly quote the article, make sure you use quotation marks. Otherwise, simply paraphrase it. Use complete sentences.
If you are copying a long quote and run out of room on a card, write the topic, source ID, and page number on another new card and continue writing your quote. In the bottom right corners write "1 of 2" and "2 of 2" respectively.
Create bibliography and detail cards for all your sources. Find more sources as needed. For a 10-page double spaced paper, expect to have around 150-200 detail cards.

Step 9: Second Layout

Lay out all of your topic cards in the same order as your preliminary outline, only this time line them all up in one row.
By this time you may also want to combine or eliminate topics because your project took a different direction from when you first wrote them. This is fine.
When you think you have enough detail cards, sort them into piles by topic. Now arrange your detail cards in columns under their topics in a way that makes sense to you.
Take a picture of all your cards in this arrangement.
Congratulations, you just layed out your final outline!

Step 10: Type Your Outline

Save a copy of your preliminary outline and title it "Final Outline." Fill in the text from the detail cards. Each detail card should be a separate bullet point on your outline. After typing out a detail card, add the citation at the end. You already know the source because you wrote the source number in the upper left hand corner of each card.
You should not have anything in your final outline that is not written down on an index card.

Step 11: First Draft

Save a copy of your final outline and name it "First Draft." Now arrange your bullet points into paragraphs. This is your draft.
Now print it . Proofread it. Ask a friend to proofread it. Mark it up and make any necessary changes on paper. Don't change any quoted text because quotes are ...well ...quotes.

Step 12: Final Copy

Save a copy of your First draft and name the file "Final Copy." Type the edits you handwrote on paper. I realize with today's technology a lot of proofreading and peer editing is done electronically. This is fine. If you're using Google Docs, be sure to use Suggestion Mode. If using Word, turn on Track Changes.
Your paper is done.
High school students, if your teacher doesn't think you've made enough changes between your draft and your final copy, hand over your stack of index cards, both outlines, and your highlighted sources. They will know you didn't use ChatGPT or copy someone else's work because you can't fake what you've just handed to them.

I wanted to play Crash of The Titans, which I had played years ago, but the DVD vanished somewhere. Researching how to run a burnt up DVD, I was kind of startled with all the soft modding wizardry people do. I have gotten the game to work in a pretty uncomplicated way that I would like to share!
This is a relatively new development and has only become possible in the last 4 years. A cool person (CTurt) found a way to exploit the PS2's DVD movie playing capabilities to execute arbitrary code. On the technical details page for the exploit, CTurt says:
There already exists a tool (ESR patcher) which patches games to appear like DVD videos so that they'll be accepted by the 'mechacon' (security processor), and an associated loader program (ESR) that boots these patched "video discs". Chaining together this new exploit with that ESR loader would allow you to patch your backups so that they could just be burned and run on your console from boot as though they were official discs.
Such a chaining of tools is what another cool person going by "Jabu" decided to publish! Here is how you can take advantage of this tool:

You need:
  • A DVD - it must be a DVD and not a CD. Strong preference should be given to DVD-R, but you may get it to work with formats like DVD+RW. A random DVD from the store worked perfectly for me - this may not be the case for you depending on the condition of your PS2, in which case you might want to buy from a more fancy brand. ImJecht needed a Taiyo Yuden DVD.
  • A computer with a DVD burner.
  • Image burning software - ImgBurn worked for me, but if you have issues the FreeDVDBoot Github page mentions that trying a different tool like CDBurnerXP may fix them.
  • FreeDVDBoot ESR Patcher by Jabu.
  • If your game is CD-based, you will get UltraISO.
Step-by-step:
  1. Get the image file for your game - either download it from a trustworthy source like the ones listed in this subreddit's megathread or back it up from a CD/DVD you already have.
  2. Download your image burning software.
  3. Download the FreeDVDBoot ESR Patcher.
  4. If your game is CD-based, you will need to use UltraISO to convert whatever format your image file is using (for example, BIN/CUE) into an ISO. Open up the program, open your file, and go to File -> Properties. You will now do the following changes: First, change the media type to 4.7(3.7)GB. Second, on the "CD File System" pane, you will click the "UDF" box. You will then unclick anything else except for ISO 9660. Finally, on the "ISO 9660 FileName Format" pane, you will choose Windows/Unix(3.1). Click OK, go to File -> Save As and save it somewhere. This entire process is described by MrMario2011.
  5. Whether you did step 4 or not, by now you have a working ISO. Simply use the FreeDVDBoot ESR Patcher to modify your ISO - it's instantaneous.
  6. Use your image burning software to burn that into your DVD. If you want to be on the safer side, you may choose the slowest Write Speed possible - 1x in both ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP. It seems to be controversial whether this actually achieves more safety.
  7. Play your game!

Greetings,
Allow me to spin you a tale of my time with Helldivers 2. It is a story of tragedy and triumph, a story of dark and terrible deeds, of waning faith and of eventual triumph over the enemies of Managed Democracy.
But first, a little context about myself. I'm rapidly approaching my mid 30's, I suffer from a basket case mix of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder, no I don't find jokes about my condition funny), Anxiety and Depression. I've been pretty severely bullied and harassed over the course of my life, and as a result I was initially skeptical about enlistment. I also come to HD2 from the first game, so I'm used to dealing with the Facist Bugs, Communist Cyborgs and Terrifying Illuminate. I also unfortunately had to hang up my cape last war since both myself and my partner were frequently harassed by the community over there (to the point where more than one Enemy Sympathiser attempted to track down and "friend" my Steam profile to throw harassment at me).
So initially, I was skeptical about the Second Great Galactic War. I had done my time for Super Earth last war after all. The Cyborgs, Bugs and Illuminate were all contained and dealt with. Enter my younger brother, AwestruckHavoc (if I get his name wrong, he will scream at me). When Super Earth bought back the Helldivers, he signed up right away like the good A-Class citizen he is. Once he got his cape, he kept me updated on how the war was going. Over time, I sat and thought about re-enlisting. I was still skeptical due to the changes Arrowhead had made to the game, and the decision to add in NProtect GameGuard - old Cyborg Spyware tech into the new suits. After sharing some more war stories (and my Cyborg Dog PTSD) I eventually decided to re-enlist on June 1st.
Part of that was a desire to fight the Facist Termanids and Baby-Stealing Clankers...and part of that was a visit from the Democracy Officer, telling me there had been trouble with my brother. Namely that Super Earth had lost contact and assumed he had martyred himself on a mission, so they were notifying next of kin.
Anyway, I go back for training (retraining I guess?), get my cape and get assigned to the SES Elected Representative of Family Values. After saying hello to all the Bridge Crew, Captain, Technicians, Pilots, Ship Gunners, SEAF Marines, Doctors...
...Anyway once I was done saying hello, I booted up the map for the Galactic War. My first ever drop was on Meridia. Difficulty 1, nothing too crazy. I drop down, proceed with the mission and then three other Divers showed up.
...And then they immediately left. All of them. This lead to me having to slug though the entire mission alone by myself. Nobody else joined, so I was left to fend for myself. I managed to beat the mission, but failed to extract.
This was my first drop, and this action by cowards and deserters colored everything else going forwards. Outside of two other games I can remember and some small moments, HD2 was for the most part a frustrating experience compared with the last war. On the off-chance someone at Arrowhead is reading this, here's a list of my grievances:
To avoid falling foul of the Democracy Officer, I'll stop the belly aching here but in short, I was not having a fun time. My (re)enlisted partner Orikal had to put up with my increasingly deteriorating mental health. Going though a lot of shit over the past two years of my life has meant that I'm not keeping it together as much these days, and how he's willing to tolerate my nonsense so readily I'll never know. Things got a point where I found myself betraying other Divers, as the problems compounded to the point where I just stopped caring. My mental health only got worse and worse as these things progressed. At one point after failing to call down a Cluster Bomb from Eagle One on a Bot Tank, I threw the stratagem marker at myself out of frustration.
And yet, I wasn't able to put the game down.
There was something in the game that kept pulling me back. Anything else I would have just left. I'm not sure if it was an ASD thing or the call of Managed Democracy, but I wasn't able to put it down even as my mental health slipped further.
In some ways, I'm glad I didn't.
I'd like to take this moment to thank fellow Helldivers Kinja9 and Leon033 if they happen to be reading this. We met on Crimsica, which the Termanids sought to despoil. I wanted to try out my new Flamethrower as I joined a level 69 Helldiver's game (and he surprisingly didn't kick me, which was odd). I thought it was going to just be another drop. I'll probably die a lot, drag the team down, embarrass Super Earth...
...That didn't quite happen. Initially I had the same thought I do in all these Co-Op games - stay quiet, don't speak, try not to be noticed. While it started out that way, I first met Kinja on this mission. The part where I recognised him was after my first death, where he was busy burning bugs with my Flamethrower. He then passed it back to me once the Bugs were dealt with. That's odd I think I didn't think you could do that. Admittedly I'm not the best on the uptake, but the Squad was...communicating? In all my drops, communication was rare. See the above for me - this is also why I don't tend to have my Voice Chat enabled in my Helmet. Anyway, things became more...democratic after I saved the group from a Bile Titan by way of 500kg bomb. After blurting out in the Chat what I was thinking, Kinja seemingly went along with it. From there, we spent most of the mission watching each others backs. This included attempting to incinerate a Bile Titan with a Flamethrower - truly, only filthy heretics burn in the fires of Democracy. Anyway it wasn't long before Leon joined (I think he came in late? Memory's a little fuzzy) and after being pointed out that we were aboard my Destroyer, I plotted in another mission on Crimsica. Before long, the three of us were laughing and joking about our exploits, whether it was the Flamethrower making me want to commit dark and terrible things in the name of Democracy, Kinja stealthily setting up a Flag beneath the Bug's notice or Leon's leadership, all of the above just...washed away. For the first time since I started playing, I made some friends and actually...enjoyed the game? It's weird like that. I also have a deep and terrible need to marry my Flamethrower for some reason I can't explain.
Anyway, I guess the point of all of this is Kinja, Leon - if you're reading this, thank you. I don't think you guys realize how much tonight's drop meant to me. To anybody whose been on the receiving end of some of my darker deeds, I am sorry and I hope there isn't any serious ill will between us. As I said above, I was in a pretty dark place when that stuff happens. I don't mean to be an asshole most of the time, but I can understand how my actions helped perpetuate some of the behavior I've outlined above. If anyone quit over my dark deeds, then I am truly, deeply sorry.
Will I drop again? More than likely. The Second Great Galactic War isn't over yet and I don't plan on shirking in my duties...so long as anyone's willing to have a temperamental fuckup with an IQ just above that of a Bug's.

Someone running an anti-tank kit will typically have a fair amount less kills than most other builds, yet obviously their contribution is important. I think it would be quite easy to define a weight for all enemies, and then display total weight for all killed enemies on the recap screen, as another way of summarizing a Helldiver’s efforts during a mission. “Weight” could also be distributed to all divers that contributed to taking down an enemy. For example, a bile titan weighs 10000 kgs, and one diver hit it with a rail cannon for ~70% of its health, and another diver finishes it off with something else. On the end screen, perhaps the finishing diver gets the kill, but only 3000 kgs added to their total, while the first diver gets 7000 kgs. I guess this would effectively be a “total damage dealt” counter. This would be cool for bots and bugs, and could increase competition between divers.

Our primary source for time travel in the Mario canon is Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, since it explores the concept of time travel in the most depth out of all the games. Other games involving time travel as plot points are Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's New Island, and Mario's Time Machine (the latter of which isn't canon). Dr. Mario World, as well as any Mario Kart or Mario sports-games featuring Baby Mario alongside adult Mario imply some sort of time travel involved. To understand how time travel works in the Mario universe, we first need to examine how Time Holes, the primary means of time travel in Partners in Time, work.

How Time Holes Connect Two Points in Time

Time Holes don't lead to a fixed point in time. If they did, the following examples would happen:
From this we can infer that Time Holes do not lead to a fixed point in time. Rather, they seem to connect two points in time, but these points are still affected by the same flow of time. This means that the same amount of time passes in the past and present. Let me demonstrate with another example:
This eliminates the previous errors that would arise with Time Holes connecting to fixed points in time and adds up with what we see in the game. Time Holes don't lead to a fixed point in time. Rather, they send anything that passes through them to a point in time relative to the point in time when the Time Hole was entered, the amount of time travelled through being fixed. I propose to call this fixed amount of time travelled through the Time Hole the Time Hole's depth (THd). The Time Hole from the above example would then be 20 years deep.
We can assume that Professor E. Gadd's time machine works by opening its own Time Holes, travelling through them, and then closing them again. This is supported by E. Gadd stating that the Time Holes used by Mario & Luigi in the game have appeared due to the time machine's return tearing holes in the time continuum. These Time Holes seems to be equal in depth to the time hole initially opened by the time machine at the start of the game, and it's reasonable to assume the machine can be used to set the depth of a the Time Holes it opens, at least as long as it is powered by the Cobalt Star. When E. Gadd appears in the past with the time machine after Mario & Luigi defeat Elder Princess Shroob, he states that he has "engineered it to run off energy from the time holes", raising the possibility that it can only open Time Holes equal in depth to the already existing Time Holes while not powered by the Cobalt Star.

How Temporal Interference Affects Causality

Now that we've cleared up how Time Holes connect two points in time, we start trying to explain how time travellers from the present can change the present by interfering with the past. For this, we look at how E. Gadd's memories are rearranged after the eruption of Thwomp Volcano. Mario & Luigi put out a fire in E. Gadd of the past's lab using the Baby Pump technique. Past E. Gadd witnessing this event leads E. Gadd's memories to be rearranged. The E. Gadd of the present notices this a THd after the event happens. Present E. Gadd then invents the Hydrogush 4000 as a result.
Thus, Mario & Luigi cause the course of history to change with their actions in the past. In a fixed timeline, changing the course of history is not possible, so the only options left are a dynamic timeline or a multiverse. However, since time travel in PiT is limited by the depth of the Time Holes linking the past and present, there is another parameter to factor in. It is generally assumed that when the course of history is changed, that change takes place immediately and universally. However, since time continues to pass at the same rate in the past as in the present, the change might also take place in real time over the depth of the Time Hole. This presents us with four possibilities for how a change in the course of history affects the present:
Change in course of history doesn't create an alternate universe Change in course of history creates an alternate universe
Course of history is changed immediately and universally A: The present and everyone's memory is adjusted as if the course of history had always been as changed. B: The course of history and the present in the original universe are unchanged. The present and everyone's memory in the alternate universe is according to the changed course of history.
Course of history is changed only at the point in time when its cause happened, taking place in real time from this point, until the past catches up to the present C: The present and everyone's memory is adjusted over time relative to the THd and according to the state of the course of history. D: The course of history and the present in the original universe are unchanged. The present in the alternate universe does not yet exist.
Comparing these possibilities, we can compare them to what happens in the game and rule out three of the four possibilities.
This only leaves possibility C. It could be argued that this possibility would not immediately provide the present E. Gadd with enough of a change in memory to experience the sudden flash of inspiration that he does in the game, prompting the following question:
It can be assumed that not the memory of this event alone causes the sudden inspiration in present E. Gadd, but rather the combination of that memory and his later memories that past E. Gadd did not yet have (memories of constructing F.L.U.D.D. being a possible example).
From this we can conclude that an action in the past changing the course of history will cause it to change from that point forward and from a point exactly a THd afterwards, without creating an alternate universe. So time travel in the Mario universe operates on a special form of dynamic timeline. To explain this a bit clearer, I will demonstrate it using an example:
Gary the Goomba is presently 40 years old. He lives in Hollijolli Village, is missing a fang, and is married to Gina the Goomba. Until Gary was 20, he had lived in Toad Town with his family. When Gary was 20, he had just built his own house in Toad Town. When Gary was 25, lightning destroyed his house and prompted him to move to Hollijolli Village. When Gary was 30, he lost one of his fangs in a sledding accident in Hollijolli Village. When Gary was 35, he married Gina, whom he met in Hollijolli Village.
In the present, Mario & Luigi travel through a Time Hole that is 20 years deep. They meet 20-year-old Gary who has just finished his house, but can't afford to install a lightning rod, so they kindly give him enough coins to do so, changing the course of history. When Gary is 25, his house is struck by lightning, but it isn't destroyed, so Gary keeps living in Toad Town. When Gary is 30, he doesn't have an accident because he doesn't live in Hollijolli Village to go sledding. When Gary is 35, he doesn't marry Gina because he doesn't live in Hollijolli Village to meet her.
Exactly 20 years after Mario & Luigi change the course of history, when Gary is 40, Gary's memory is rearranged to remember Mario & Luigi giving him some coins when he was 20 and him using them to install a lightning rod on his house. When Gary is 45, he suddenly remembers that his house in Toad Town wasn't destroyed. However, he also recalls living in Hollijolli Village for 20 years because of lightning destroying his house, albeit more hazily, as he does not remember the original memory and this memory is only constructed from recalling the original one over the last 20 years. When Gary is 50, his missing fang somehow reappears in his mouth, as if had never been gone. He recalls missing it for 20 years. When Gary is 55, he is not married to Gina. The two of them still have all the memories they shared together in the last 20 years. When Gary is 60, he can recall a clear timeline from when he was 20 to when he was 40, just as he always could from his birth to age 20, but has conflicting memories between age 40 and now.
As you can see from this example, the new past quite literally catches up to anyone affected by the change in the course of history. What we don't know is what happens when all the Time Holes are closed. The course of history could continue to change until caught up with the present or it could cease changing.

How Time Travel Works in Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's New Island and Mario's Time Machine

Before the events of Yoshi's Island DS, in the present time, Kamek's crystal ball foretells that seven powerful stars fell during the time period in which the game takes place. Him and Bowser travel to the past in order to obtain these stars. We don't see any direct effects this time travelling has on causality, as this event is never mentioned again by any of the characters. However, an assumption can be made about the means by which Kamek and Bowser have travelled to this time. Bowser's Castle in this game notably features an adult Bowser's emblem on its front, which implies that it was built for an adult Bowser, likely in the present time. Even more interestingly, the castle features a large clock face on its central tower, giving off the impression that the entire castle is able to travel through time. Whether this is accomplished in the same way as E. Gadd's time machine or by some other means is unclear. At the end of the game, the castle explodes as it falls from the sky and Kamek, Bowser, and Baby Bowser are seen escaping by flying away. If the castle is indeed the time machine used by Kamek and Bowser to travel to this time period, its destruction could leave the pair to be stranded in this time period for an indefinite amount of time.
Yoshi's New Island notoriously gives us the line "Suddenly... warping through time and space... King Bowser appears!" without any further explanation for why or how Bowser has travelled to this time period. The game takes place immediately after the original Yoshi's Island, so it must take place before YIDS (in which Baby Mario seems familiar to Yoshi), and this couldn't be a stranded Bowser from that game. On top of that, Mario himself has also travels to this time period, donning the guise of Mr. Pipe, providing indirect help to Yoshi. Why Mario would act in secret instead of taking direct action like he does in PiT is and how he travelled through time is also a mystery.
While not canon, in Mario's Time Machine, Bowser travels to the past using a machine called the Timulator to steal artifacts from all over the world. Depending on the game's version, the Timulator either opens a portal to a certain point in time or travels to a certain point in time, taking passengers with it. The destination to which the Timulator can send a user is determined by inputting a location's name, a four-digit date and whether that date is BC or AD. The Timulator can't send a user to travel to every point possible to be inputted in it, sending them to the Cretaceous Period or back to the present if the destination is incompatible. The Timulator seems to be limited to destinations on Earth. Notably, Mario worries about history being changed forever by the artifcacts stolen from their time periods, so changing the course of history is possible. with no alternate universes created by it. We see history books missing certain words, but not all of their information as an effect of the changed course of history, which would lead to believe that the 'delayed' form of a dynamic timeline does apply as well. However, the causality of how exactly these items would change history in this specific way is dubious in most cases.
None of these examples directly contradict the time travel mechanics constructed from Partners in Time.

Potential Plot-Holes in Partners in Time Caused by Time Travel

Returning to PiT, two questions that are frequently brought up while discussing the game are the following:
  1. Why do Mario & Luigi not seem to remember the Shroob invasion?
  2. If the Shroobs conquered the Mushroom Kingdom in the past, then why do the Shroobs not control the kingdom in the present?
These two questions can be answered as follows:
  1. Mario & Luigi were too young to remember any of the events properly. Adults are usually unable to recall memories of specific events experienced before the age of 3.
  2. The Shroobs were eradicated by a force other than the time-travelling bros during the unchanged course of history.
There is, however, a question which is much more glaring, yet not as frequently discussed:
The characters most importantly affected by this are Toadsworth (and by extension Peach) and E. Gadd. How could anyone ever agree to sending the princess back in time to a point where a historical cataclysm befell the Mushroom Kingdom less than 25 years ago if they had even an ounce of historical knowledge? I certainly would not travel back in time to 1986 to visit Chernobyl.
This question can't be answered under the assumption that the Shroob invasion was a normal historical event. The invasion must have been either of the following:
Since the first option would require a level of control over the population of the Mushroom Kingdom that seems next to impossible, the following theory presents itself:

The Time Travelling Shroob Theory

We have already established that when the course of history is changed, the changed historical events are rewritten in real time from that point on, with people in the present only remembering what has already been rewritten up to the same point exactly a THd before the present. The beginning of the Shroob invasion coincides almost perfectly with Peach and the time machine's arrival in the past. Thus, nobody remembers the invasion prior to the point a THd after it begins to warn the princess of her voyage to the past. The sudden memories being rearranged might also be what causes Toadsworth to fall into a state of shroomshock.
This simply offers an explanation for why the Shroob invasion had been unknown by the entire populace of the Mushroom Kingdom prior to the events of PiT. Following this, I will outline arguments that point towards the Shroobs being able to use time travel:
In the final battle against Elder Princess Shroob, she is shown to have the ability of opening Time Holes at will herself. She uses this to shoot down Shroob saucers to fall into the Time Hole and later remerge from it as a means of delayed attack. It is unknown whether she has had this ability before the events of the game or if she received it by fusing with the Cobalt Star. While the former would point to this theory being true, arguments for and against it can be made just as well. The Cobalt Star's primary function seems to be to provide the time machine with power, being referred to as the machine's energy or fuel source a number of times. The ability to travel through time by opening Time Holes would instead be attributed to the machine itself. A possible explanation for this is that fusing with the Cobalt Star has caused the two to become a separate entity that exists independently from Elder Princess Shroob. This entity would be able to exist until the changed course of history caused by Younger Princess Shroob's death caught up with the present.
We also need to evaluate the Shroobs' motivations for their invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom and why they would resort to using time travel:
From these points, it can be concluded that if the Shroobs themselves are indeed able to travel through time, doing so would be highly advantageous.

Well, this was a disappointing read.
First off a few definitions of overused terms within this "novel".
Lesion: An injury, wound or abnormal change in a bodily area/organ often caused by disease or infection. examples would include the wound channel left by a venomous spidesnakebite or an ulcer, or the sores left by syphillis or herpes.
Necrosis: A form of injury to the body's cells caused by either trauma, infection or disease via autolysis (self - digestion of the cell by its own enzymes), leading to premature and rapid cellular death/destruction. Examples would include gangrene and Necrotizing Fasciitis (flesh eating disease).
Necromorph: Neologism formed from the root word "Necro" derived from the Greek word "Nekrós" i.e. dead and "Morph" derived from the Greek word "Morphế" i.e. form - quite literally "dead - form". Is the species name of the alien scourge/plague that acts as the primary antagonist of the Dead Space series of video games and mass media. "Dead Space" and its included "Necromorph" IP and copyright belong to Electronic Arts which is in no way affiliated with either Tim Waggoner or Titan Books.
So now that I've defined a few oft over - used terms from this dumpster fire. Let's jump feet first into the summary of this "novel" and point out the many times Mr. Waggoner fails high school biology throughout the course of it.
  1. Alien egg found by freelance corporate spy in cryostasis.
  2. Egg brought to research lab on a colony planet owned by the Venture megacorporation.
  3. Volunteer who had previously been exposed to various diseases including one that causes cellular necrosis as part of clinical studies is impregnated by facehugger released from the alien egg. All fine and dandy so far.
  4. Chestburster erupts from human host and immediately shows the same symptoms of being infected with the deceased host's cellular necrosis disease, just at a far more accelerated rate to the point where its exoskeleton can be seen forming and rupturing lesions in real time over the entirety of its body. Alien survives and doesn't dissolve into a puddle of organic sludge due to its hyperactive metabolism - wait WHAT?
Hold on for a minute and let's go over that last point in the summary: The Alien (Xenomorph) contracts a disease that causes its very cellular structure to self - destruct and devour itself from its host (which right off the bat shouldn't be possible due to the Xenomorph's selective biology). Yet it happens anyways and the little monster survives because it has a fast metabolism? That's not how a metabolism works Mr. Waggoner.
Metabolism: The chemical processes that occur within the body to maintain life, specifically the conversion of food to energy for cellular processes, the creation of necessary compounds necessary to maintain growth (amino acids, fats and lipids etc.) and the elimination of waste matter.
Having a fast metabolism would encourage the spread of the cellular necrosis not render the xenomorph resistant to it as the xenomorph's own body would effectively devour itself at an even faster rate ultimately leading to a short painful existence followed by death and dissolution into an organic soup of chitin and acid. The faster one's bodily processes operate the faster diseases transmit through one's system. There is a reason slowing a person's bodily functions down via both medical and environmental methods are used to slow the spread of disease within a person.
Anyways on with the show.
  1. The chestburster (zombieburster?) escapes containment by tearing its way through a grate and entering the ventilation system. Pretty bog standard Xenomorph maneuver there.
  2. The chestburster, now hungry and needing more biomass to grow attacks a pair of warehouse workers and defends itself from one of them by spraying acidic pus from several of its various lesions. said pus is apparently highly virulent and causes the same cellular necrosis that has infected the Xenomorph to infect anyone who is sprayed by it. HUH?
You would think having molecular acid for blood and pus would neutralize any sort of virus within one's bloodstream. Apparently not according to Mr. Waggoner. Somewhere a biologist and a chemist are crying.
  1. Chestburster continues to feed and grow and quickly morphs in an adult. (The Alien: Covenant school of thought is strong with this one).
  2. Adult Xenomorph attacks several colonists at the colony's shopping centebazaar. During the attack it is confronted by several security guards and dispatches them via more acidic/viral pus showers courtesy of the newly formed lesions covering its entire exoskeleton.
  3. The doctor that was experimenting on the Xenomorph egg decides to call the creature a "Necromorph" due to the cellular necrosis disease it's spreading. Hold it right there.
"Necromorph" is a copyrighted term contained within the Dead Space IP. The rights to which belong to Electronic Arts after the dissolution of Visceral Games, the studio that developed the Dead Space games. Some one's in trouble.
  1. Xenomorph escapes back into the ventilation system before reappearing back in the station's medical bay. The Xenomorph kills several patients before security forces arrive and open fire on it.
  2. The xenomorph proves to be immune to bullets due to the Lesions on its exoskeleton acting as another layer of armor plating - Must be some strong stuff the author was imbibing when he wrote this.
A lesion can best be described as an open sore/breach in the body's exterior skin/exoskeleton. In other words it's a weakpoint on the Xenomorph's hide, not armor plating. At least it would be if Mr. Waggoner knew that of which he wrought!
  1. Xenomorph continues to kill colonists, it spreads the cellular necrosis virus throughout the ventilation shafts of the colony's admin building. With the way this thing continues to gain new powers as the plot demands, it sounds like a monster out of a lame Greg Bear novel.
  2. More people die, including the corporate spy from the beginning of the book after she stupidly infects herself with the cellular necrosis virus a la some Ridley Scott - esque moment of sheer and utter idiocy.
  3. Xenomorph is lured towards the colony junkyard by surviving security forces, ambushed by training robots controlled by the protagonist's synthetic buddy Davis and gets shot up with pulse rifles - the end. NOPE JUST KIDDING JAJAJAJAJAJAJA! The glorious biology defying lesions again render the space cockroach impervious to weapons - fire even from weapons such as pulse rifles that (as seen repeatedly through all of Jame's Cameron's Aliens) should be tearing the bug into tiny pieces of kibble.
  4. The bug is finally lured into the security force's air skimmeVTOL which the protagonist's synthetic pal Davis self destructs via engine overload. The bug finally dies.
AAaanndd that's a wrap! To be frank the minute the colony doctor (a sop by the name of Millard Gagnon) decided to call the Xenomorph a "Necromorph" everything just went down hill. Suspension of disbelief was tossed out for the crows to feast on and the novel ended up reading like some bad Greg Bear inspired fanfiction.

It has come to my attention that there may be some confusion regarding the proper procedure for redeeming Paid Sick Leave (PSL). I want to take a moment to clarify the guidelines outlined in our handbook to ensure everyone understands the process accurately.
According to our handbook, team members are required to utilize PSL in increments of at least two hours. This rule is in place to facilitate accurate record-keeping and ensure consistency in our policies. It is important to note that for any absence covered by PSL, team members must have accrued paid sick leave hours equivalent to the duration of their requested leave. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the absence being deemed unexcused.
For example, if a team member has an 8-hour shift and intends to use PSL for the entire duration, they must have 8 hours of PSL available. If they only possess 2 hours of PSL, they are expected to either report to work for the remaining 6 hours or arrange coverage for their shift. Otherwise, the absence will be classified as unexcused.
I believe COR excused full shifts if only 2 hours of PSL were used—I want to clarify that I am only excusing shifts as outlined above. If you do not have PSL hours equivalent to the hours needed to cover your shift, we will enact our Unexcused Absence Disciplinary process.
Disciplinary Process for Unexcused Absences:

Feeling drained and seeking a bit of encouragement and guidance when dealing with these new type of "outraged" customers. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post, but context is key!
For some background, our business has been around for nearly a decade. However, recently we've noticed a shift in customer expectations when it comes to online shopping policies, and the reactions have been quite intense. A lot of the standard online shopping policies or expectations have gone out the window. Take, for instance, a highly successful product launch or major sale resulting in delays due to a surge in orders. Previously, customers would have been thrilled, sharing/posting on socials to show excitement that they secured the new products. This enthusiasm not only boosted sales but also made others interested who then wanted to be a part of it as well. However, recently we're noticing that this type of scenario often triggers frustration (or more like "outrage") due to the extended processing times during peak periods - shifting from 2-3 business days to 7-8 business days and FAQ/shipping policy pages details this.
We've tried to take the approach of apologizing, offer complimentary gifts, and reference our policies that clearly outline potential delays during peak periods, there are still a few customers who become "outraged" with spamming our social media posts with accusations of being a "scam", "warning others" not to buy or saying how dare we continue to post on social media or allow anymore orders until pending orders are fulfilled. It's puzzling. We are not a retail giant like Amazon; we operate with a small, dedicated team. How can one expect us to halt our online operations entirely to catch up? We need to run our business to expand it, employ more staff, and enhance order processing speed, don't we? \Sorry for the rant lol**
Anyways, here's the scenario - Let's say your team apologizes and politely tries to explain the extended processing times are simply due to the high order volume from a major launch/sale/holiday etc. (therefore not a scam). However, a customer continues to then leave multiple comments on social media accusing our business of being a "scam," cautioning others against ordering, and threatens to dispute the charges with their bank - How do you handle these type of situations? Is anyone else dealing with this "outrage" behavior as well? How would/do you respond to this type of behavior? For example, thank them for their feedback and cancel the order?
Recently we took the approach to cancel the order if this happens to stop this behavior but somehow it only escalated the situation 3 different times. So to recap, initially they called us a "scam" due to the extended processing time but now we're a scam because we've canceled and refunded the order? One person went so far to file a bbb report after we canceled and refunded their order because apparently, \despite the outrage, comments, threats to dispute the charges etc*,* "they still wanted the items" and never requested to cancel. Like excuse me? What did you expect to happen after you went on this defamatory crusade? I'm truly baffled.
Are we still leading with the idea that the customer is always right despite our policies or how they act? Would love to know what new policies / customer support approaches everyone is taking now.
What customer service and/or store policies and expectations have you noticed changed in the past 1-2 years?
