Thyroid overmedication

so very frightened right now

2024.04.30 17:51 Downtown_Jelly_7654 so very frightened right now

I am 62 now and lived with anxiety/agoraphobia on and off since I was a child. the only thing that helped me live a normal anxiety free life for a few years was Seroxat (Paroxetine), it really did save my life for a few years. Some years later I was hit with perimenopause and under active thyroid, only to discover in 2016 I have Hashimotos.
When my body crashed back in 2015 the anxiety came back with a vengeance and has never left me, the Paroxetine stopped working and despite upping my dose that didn't work either so I can't find the root cause to fix it because my hormones and body are a complete mess. I have had a lot of losses over the last 6yrs and am totally alone in the world with no friends and only a brother left (who has his own issues). I am a complex case so the professionals have told me and have not been able to get to the bottom of any of my conditions, let alone have help to manage them. All I want is to get rid of the anxiety but with the conditions I have, anxiety is a big part of them so I am stuck in a cycle I can't break nor do I know how help myself, despite trying absolutely everything I could the last few years and yet nothing has changed and I am still sat here completely alone.
I have no purpose in life, I wake up every day dreading the day ahead wondering what the hell I am going to do with myself and all I do is sit on the computer all day trying to distract from the anxiety symptoms and persistent intrusive thought that are worse on waking and for most of every day.
To add insult to injury I found out last week that I am currently overmedicating on my thyroid meds and the symptoms are debilitating including a double whammy of anxiety and it could take a while before things settle down but I just don't have the strength anymore to keep fighting this and I certainly have NO reason to stay to keep suffering. Some of the symptoms of being overmedicated I am experiencing are
Elevated pulse
palps/missed heart beats
Anxiety, nervous energy, tremors.
Feeling irritable, overemotional, erratic, or depressed.
Difficulty concentrating.
Difficulty sleeping.
Fatigue or feeling extremely tired.
Feeling overheated, even when others are cold.
It's frightening and I am just not coping, I have health anxiety now too and convinced I have POTS which on reading, it can mimic anxiety symptoms and also being currently overmedicated can mimic the symptoms
I am trapped in my own head with all my irrational panic fuelling thoughts and to be honest only the small dose Diazepam is keeping me alive. Have sought therapy several times over the years, all of which was crap, sought again in february and they cocked things up as usual and now I won't be seen until May. My GP doesn't really care, pharmacies have messed up my meds and it seems all I have done the last few months is do their job for them and just get stressed with it all to the point where I really don't care if I don't wake up tomorrow now.
I used to, until recently, hang out with some people I thought were friends on a video site, it was like having company in my own room having people to talk to instead of typing in chatrooms like this, which really doesn't help me. I got outcasted though because of my issues so now I am back to having nothing to help me through my day

2024.04.27 15:36 Public-Dare-9078 TSH was 190, my first week of taking levo, and dosage question

I never expected it but last week i did a blood work, the next day i got my report -- TSH was 190 (normal range 0.32-4.00), free T4 < 5 (normal range 9-19). My family doctor told me this is the highest TSH he's ever seen. Doctor put me on 100mg synthroid, I started to take it this Monday.
I'm surprisingly not very symptomic for this number. I function okay, my symptoms are anxiety and insomnia (it started 3 years ago, but it's been worse lately, I've been having a lot of mood swing in the past month but I blamed my anxiety), weight gain and low appetite(gained 5kg without any lifestyle change, my weight has been stable for years), enlarged neck (didn't notice it until the blood work result came out), slightly sensitive to cold.
I took synthroid for 5 days and already noticed a difference from day 2. I know it's probably placebo, but I don't truly think it's all placebo. I noticed I'm not as anxious as before, more precisely, now I still have anxious thoughts coming across my brain often, but they don't trigger my body to react (tense muscle, heartbeat race) as much as before. My sleep has been better, still a bit hard to fall asleep but sleep quality seems to be better. I have more appetite and energy compared with last month. Now that I think of it, maybe my thyroid was already off 3 years ago when my anxiety and insomnia started all of a sudden without any external triggers.
My current concern is, I also noticed some overmedicated signal starting yesterday, like I feel kinda unsettled, muscle tense without anxious thoughts, less deep sleep. Not super bad now but I'm concerned, because if I feel already better so quickly in the first week, does it mean I'm very likely to be overmedicated in the next weeks? Or is it just some up and downs before it gets stabilized? when should I reach out to doctors if I continue to have those overmedicate symptoms?
Thanks!

2024.04.17 02:55 PantheraPardus High TSH but other labs normal

Hi all. Looking for advice and experience from those who have had similar results.
We began the whole suite of testing this cycle. My CD3 bloodwork came back with high TSH (5.81 mUI/L). As we redditors do, I scoured every fertility sub and Google and basically convinced myself this explains my recent miscarriage at 6 weeks and our 15 cycles of TTC with no positives.
I saw my RE yesterday for my HSG. He seemed unphased by my thyroid - he ordered follow-up labs for free T4 and thyroid antibodies. He said if those were abnormal, we’d start medication (thyroid replacement hormones). He also said we can start IUI next cycle. Honestly I was so anxious about the HSG it’s all a blur and I barely asked any questions - like what happens if the new tests were normal. Also, HSG and all other tests were normal (and my HSG experience was fine, btw - cramping but quick).
I got my results back today directly through Quest. Normal. Both 1.0. No call from my RE but we are also waiting for other labs (genetic testing), so I wouldn’t be surprised if they wait to call with all of it at once.
I am so confused. Why would my TSH be so high but the others fine? Does this mean I don’t need any medication? Is it really fine to start IUI?
I also am conflicted on whether to push my RE for medication. I am comfortable advocating for myself but I wonder if maybe I Dr. Googled a little too hard? Everything I’ve read said this is way too high for pregnancy, but maybe high TSH combined with other labs being normal is OK and I should trust my very qualified doctor who is the head of a well regarded fertility practice?
Anyone else been in a similar boat? At this point I’m scared of losing more time and wasting energy and money on IUI if it’s doomed to fail, but also scared of pushing for medication I don’t need.
UPDATE #1: I called back. Apparently there is new guidance that suggests that we don’t need to medicate because all my other hormones are normal and I don’t have any symptoms. The office just recently changed their policy according to the nurse I talked to. I guess we’ll see - I am inclined to try and trust my doctor and give it at least a little time before seeking a second opinion.
UPDATE #2: I called back again still unhappy and uncertain. I wrote out and rehearsed my questions and my phone script because I get anxious about questioning doctors and will post that here too.
First and most important, when my doctor ordered my T4 and antibody labs, they also ordered another TSH test. I could not see the results in Quest myself (they ran this one in-house), and I did not understand that this was the case. He told me this morning that level was 2.7. So much lower than 5.81.
My doctor said that there is a new study within the last 6 months that questions “the magical 2.5 threshold” and medicating patients with no symptoms and levels within normal range. He said if my TSH was still higher than 4, he would have medicated me. He also said that because I’ve only had one loss, there is little evidence to support that this is the cause of that loss or my infertility. He said if I were to have multiple losses, he would also consider medicating me. He said he is concerned about the scientific basis for overmedicating patients with levels within normal range without other supporting cause to do so (symptoms, multiple losses, more than 1 reading out of range) based on this new study.
Honestly if I knew the second TSH level I never would’ve made this post or questioned anything. So. Maybe that says something about how doctors should be making all data available to patients and not some data or I should stop looking at Quest myself.
My doctor and the nurse I spoke to also said that I am doing my due diligence and advocating for myself and not to apologize for asking questions.
Here is my phone script for my initial voicemail for anyone else with anxiety about these things: Hello, this is PantheraPardus [spells last name and bday]. I spoke to your office yesterday about my thyroid results and I have some follow up questions. I am available [x times today], and if you can give me a call back to discuss, I would greatly appreciate it. I will list my questions in this voicemail.
First, I’d like to understand why my TSH would be high and my other levels normal. What causes that?
Second, I spoke to your office yesterday and was told there was recently a policy change with regard to treating patients with high TSH but normal tests otherwise. Can someone walk me through why that policy changed and what the new research shows?
Third, if I were to get pregnant, would we start treatment, since this level is considered above the normal threshold for pregnancy? If yes, why wouldn’t we start treatment now?
Thank you. I appreciate your patience and time. I hope you can understand my concerns, as soon as you Google high TSH and fertility, you see results about a threshold of 2.5 being recommended and high TSH being associated with miscarriage. As I had a recent miscarriage, I am trying to ensure we are doing everything we can to prevent that again. I really appreciate your help. Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.”

2024.04.03 06:12 sophiasuicide Overmedicated on levothyroxine

My pcp found out my levels were really high and I was showing to have hyperthyroidism. She brought me down from 125mcg to 112mcg. I felt that something was off a few weeks later it started with feeling out of breath going upstairs. Then I felt muscle aches and cramps. Then came anxiety.
I went to see a new endo since the one I was seeing before felt very transactional. She told me that my thyroid was really high and that I was symptomatic to the meds. She said that my pcp should have dropped me down to 75mcg. Told me that before I was suppose to start a new dose I was suppose to take a break from being really high.
She told me to take a week off. I took a week and a half off then started again but as soon as I took the medication all the bad symptoms came back. I called the new endos office to tell her I was having high anxiety when I would take the meds and that I was going to go ahead and get my labs done to start from scratch.
I feel like this is how it should have started anyway. I feel better when I don’t take the meds so hopefully get a game plan going for tomorrow to see where I’m at. Please pray for me this has been so scary. My symptoms are still sounding like I’m overmedicated.
Has anyone dealt with this sort of situation? Im thinking of giving a functional doctor a try as well.

2024.03.18 11:00 sad_substituteIL1234 Is this supposed to happen when on levothyroxine?

Hello!
I am so sorry to bother everyone again. For reference: I have sero-negative Hashimoto's, presenting with chronic (2+ years) diffusely heterogenous thyroid damage and subclinical hypothyroid levels, alongside high triglycerides, fatty liver, and a whole bunch of other insanity lol.
I was started on 25mcg of Levothyroxine on February 20th (4 weeks this Wednesday). The first week or so was actually pretty okay—my digestive system was thriving, I could think clearly, and my sleep was pretty okay (and restful)!
Then, I quickly started feeling like absolute garbage. At first, I thought it was some sort of placebo effect, but then my period was late (and is late, currently by 12 days... which has never happened before, longest before this was 6). My digestive system is so slow and is almost dyspepsia like... which, is new. Also, I've been severely, severely depressed + stressed, alongside INSANE exhaustion and insomnia.
From my perspective (and I'm probably 100% wrong), I imagine that it's due to the fact that my thyroid was *so* damaged for *so long* by the hashimoto's, and was working "overtime" to produce the "minimum" required thyroid hormones (i.e., subclinical), that now that it's getting the (very small amount of T4), it has decided to go to its actual, post-damaged efficiency.
Also, according to the very inaccurate 23andme/genvue, I apparently have a genetic mutation (rs22355 (A;A)), which is linked to poor T4 to T3 conversion via the deiodinase 1 (DIO1) gene/enzyme. Don't know if that's accurate or worth anything in this entire situation, but yeah!
I go in for early labs this week because my doctors are concerned its a different hormone issue (which... I hope not Anyways, my question for y'all is, "is this normal?"
I don't think it is? but my doctors don't really know what the hell is happening with me either, which is quite horrifying. The insomnia and skipped period lead to overmedication/"hyper", but everything is "hypo"... so I really don't know.
Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well! Thank you for anything you can offer! Have a great rest of your day/week!!

2024.03.15 22:08 Standard-Platypus424 Heart Arrhythmia Armour Thyroid

Yesterday during my physical my doctor noticed a heart arrhythmia (she said “normal but with extra beats”) and I do feel it occasionally and have a tightness in my chest.
She suspects it’s from overmedicating armour thyroid. She is not the doctor who prescribes it.
My thyroid meds came back:
TSH - .02 range .27-4.2 Free T4 - 1.0 range .9-1.7
My TSH is usually suppressed but my T4 is not usually that low. I take 120mg armour a day split between two doses.
Anyone have similar experiences? Did lowering Armour or just going back to just Levo help?
I hated being on just Levo. I felt awful until I started the Armour

2024.03.14 03:21 becxs2626 Major acne from accidentally taking too high of levothyroxine

Background: I had radioactive iodine ablation when I was 7 yo to remove my thyroid bc I was hyper. I’m now 25 yo (F) and have been on levothyroxine for the past 18 years. Obviously, my levels have fluctuated over the years due to many different factors of growing up, puberty, moving, stress changes, birth control, etc. so I have to get bloodwork done often to monitor my levels and adjust my med dosage.
I moved and had to find a new endo. After getting labs done, I needed to up my dosage because levels were low (at the time I was taking 88mcg). I took 100mcg for a few months and felt fine on it, it actually seemed to clear up some acne I felt like I had from being slightly hypo. I was going to be traveling for a bit so I called to have my prescription refilled. The pharmacy accidentally refilled it for 125mcg and I had taken that for 2.5 months before realizing it (I know, stupid. I really should have checked). Anyways, looking back on the timeline, RIGHT at the same time of the dosage switch I started to get horrible acne that has persisted until now (I didn’t make the connection bw the acne and high dosage until now). Just got my bloodwork and my TSH is 0.14. So my doctor bumped me down to 112mcg since my levels on 100mcg were still slightly low before accidentally taking the 125mcg. Has anyone else had something similar happen where they get bad symptoms of being overmedicated? Along with acne, I had bad anxiety, horrible concentration, and felt a little depressed… I’ve been taking 112mcg for a little over a week and feel better mentally, but want to know if my acne will clear up soon or is even related to this. Any advice? This acne is cystic, super deep and painful. Nothing topical helps:(

2024.03.13 22:56 snowyiamsnowy Thyroid Overmedication Vs. Actual Thyroid Issues?

Apologies for the length.
I (20F) have been dealing with increasingly severe chronic fatigue for the past few years. Nowadays, there are days I can barely get out of bed, and in the past I've been able to easily sleep for 18+ hours straight.
I say in the past because things have become different and worse in the past 6-8 months or so. I now have pretty bad insomnia, I sweat EXTREMELY easily even in cold weather, I have tremors in my hands and my body has become very sensitive to dehydration. I also have a very low/nonexistent libido and I'm susceptible to infections/illness. From my research, I know that all of these symptoms are pretty hallmark of hyperthyroidism, however I have not experienced any weight loss, just weight gain.
In mid 2022 I got my bloodwork done for the first time by my PCP. Everything was normal; she tested my TSH and it was 2.36 u/mL. She recommended I see a psychiatrist and sent me on my merry way. To cover all of my bases, I began seeing a therapist and psychiatrist that I still see to this day, and can say with a great deal of certainty that what I'm dealing with is not "mental health issues". I got another slightly different blood panel done in late 2022 by a different PCP, where everything that was tested came back normal, and my TSH was 1.29. A family member sees a holistic doctor that specializes in hormones, so I ended up going to see them as well. They ended up putting me on 15mg of NP Thyroid. Throughout 2023 my NP Thyroid dose was gradually increased, as my symptoms were starting to get better but didn't ever fully go away. By mid 2023 my symptoms started getting worse, leading to now. My late 2023 bloodwork (was on 60 or 75mg of NP Thyroid at this point) showed a T3 Reverse of 12ng/dL, TSH of 2.09mIU/L, Free T4 of 0.9 and Free T3 of 3.2. I still felt like crap and my holistic doctor didn't know what to do with me at that point and just upped me to 90mg NP Thyroid, so I ended up switching to a "traditional" endo that I saw this year. She performed another round of bloodwork, which I will put here:
ACTH (ref range 6-50): 5
TSH (ref range 04-4.5): 0.22
Free T4 (ref range 0.8-1.4): 1.0
TPO (ref range <9): 1
Cortisol, A.M.: 8.4mcg/dL
I also got a thyroid ultrasound at some point in 2023 that showed everything as normal.
I have yet to hear back from my endo despite calling their office multiple times, but to me this screams hyperthyroidism, which she said I likely had before I even got my labs done (but also said my symptoms were probably just anxiety..).
At this point, I'm wondering if I ever even had thyroid issues to begin with, or if I was medicated "just because", and it's thrown my body completely off and sent me into hyperthyroidism. Everything I read online says my initial levels were normal. I guess I'm just really confused.

2024.02.20 17:17 West_Welcome_6894 Symptomatic subclinical hypothyroidism

Hi all! 23f here
I've been having issues with my thyroid levels for a little while now. Pcp has been testing me for probably the past two to three years now.
Started out in Normal range of 3 something and in the past few months Aug to Oct it went from 4.9 to 5.5. Pcp did not put me on medication, I'm assuming to just monitor but I've always had issues with being cold. Especially my feet for some reason, also have the fatigue amd sometimes constipation issues. So I asked for a 2nd opinion from my obgyn.
She checked them and they came back 5.9 with Normal t4 levels. She has given me the option of taking 25mcg levothyroxine which I decided to do.
I'm honestly just really anxious to take this medication because my paranoid brain thinks it's gonna make it worse and cause me other issues. I have family history of thyroid issues (mother, grandmother, my aunt has hashimotos) so I know I'll probably most likely going to have issues myself, I just feel like I'm too young? Or I'm going to be overmedicated.
Anyone else with similar issue?

2024.02.10 18:20 Bright_League_7692 Severe headaches on Tirosint

Hoping for some personal experiences regarding this. I started treatment with Tirosint for a TSH of 4.9 and TPO of 258. After a month, I started having extremely severe headaches, jaw pain, and bad panic attacks. This resolves once I stop the Tirosint for a few days, but starts again as soon as I take the medication. We've tried lowering my dose several times (from 50 mcg to 25 mcg to 13 mcg and I still get these symptoms). I'm not sure if this is overmedication or if it is simply a reaction to Tirosint (reading reviews it seems like this has happened to others before). I have not tried any other brand of thyroid medication before.
Does anyone have any specific experience with Tirosint that has experienced the same symptoms and can comment whether this is a medication side effect and if I should switch to another brand?
These headaches are absolutely ruining my life. I've had to go on medical leave from my profession due to this.

2024.02.08 14:09 Bright_League_7692 Anxiety and Depression relief with Levothyroxine

I was initially diagnosed with hypothyroidism with TPO of 258 and TSH of 3.9 and started on levothyroxine 25 mcg. When I started, I felt like all of the depression and anxiety completely lifted. We ramped up too quickly and now I'm overmedicated and feeling terrible again.
Can someone explain why taking thyroid hormone had so much benefit for my anxiety and depression? Will that eventually return or stay at the proper dosage? Looking for some hope through these times.

2024.01.26 03:19 Velvetandcakes Low FT3 and irregular periods?

I've been on Levothyroxine for about a year now, after first being diagnosed with Hashi's in Jan 2023. Took a few months of dose calibration with my endo (I was initially overmedicated), but my TSH has now been at a good level for the past 5 months or so.
However, my latest results showed that FT3 is just slightly below the reference range - my endo said this is normal and not a cause for concern but I'm curious if anyone has experienced the same thing before.
Latest results: - TSH 1.310 mIU/L (ref range 0.27-4.20) - FT4: 17.0 pmol/L (ref range 12.0-22.0) - FT3: 2.99* pmol/L (ref range 3.1-6.8)
Also, my period has mysteriously become irregular in the past 3 months. I had regular cycles in my first few months on Levo, but since Sep, my cycles have become really long (anything from 50 to 80 days) - I've never experienced such long cycles before.
Endo said this isn't related to the low FT3 or my thyroid, and we might have to dig deeper for the cause if it continues this way. I feel great otherwise, so can't quite figure out what the cause is. Wonder if anyone has experienced something similar before?

2024.01.17 01:24 Rirrichiyo TSH is normal but my T4 is low.

I've had hyperthyroidism and grew a nodule on my right side of the thyroid the size of a golf ball. For that, my endocrinologist prescribed hyperthyroid medication to turn me hypo so I could get a partial thyroidectomy. Due to covid I couldn't get surgery immediately so I got overmedicated for one more year. My TSH was non-detectable but my FT4 was really low. My synptoms were extremely bad: I was freezing, balding, gaining weight, muscle and bone pain and especially had chronic fatigue and almost constant brain fog.
I finally had surgery one year ago in July. Since then my endocrinologist put me on 50 mg Euthyrox. At first it seemed like it helped, my TSH was around 0.8 and my FT4 was 18 (the limits are 10 and 28 and it previously was 14 ).
I didn't go for a checkup for one year because of a money and insurance problem so I didn't get any tests done.
Fast forward to today and tbh all my symptoms are back and they are accompanied by severe migraines. It gradually became worse and worse since around january last year. I finally got my blood tested and my TSH came out as 1.53 and my FT4 as 12. Again, the lower limit is 10. My appointment with my doctor is in February, until then I have a lot of exams and work (I work and I am also a collage student).
Is there any way I can ease my symptoms? Or make my T4 higher in any way? My doctor doesn't want to test me for FT3 and T3 even though I previously requested it (she said they aren't important...). Should I try to go for a higher dose? I am battling insomnia and almost constant brain fog and fatigue and it makes it extremely hard to concentrate on exams.

2024.01.16 05:00 pizzatanktopbro Light sensitivity questions, overmedicated

Just wanted to throw this out to see if anyone else experiences something similar.
I’ve been over medicated for close to a year and I’ve been on a new adjusted dose (went from 137 to 125 Synthroid) for just under 7 weeks.
I’ve definitely noticed a slow improvement with a lot of my hyper symptoms-some reduced heart rate, lots of improvement with bowel movement, sleeping a little better, haven’t been burning off as much weight, some improvements in anxiety.
I’ve noticed an experience with some light sensitivity but I’m unsure if others have experienced this as well. It seems that especially with overhead fluorescent lighting, it seems to be a little bit disorienting to the point where I feel like I have some vision changes, some increased anxiety and maybe even some depersonalization or derealization.
This is a symptom that I have some recollection of ten years or so ago when dealing with some overmedication and going into hyperthyroidism.
Is this something others have had any experience with? I have some curiosity as to if this is a thyroid symptom that I might eventually get some relief from that others have experience with. Or if this may just be strictly an anxiety symptom.
Thanks for any input or experiences anyone else has had that they’d like to share.

2024.01.08 14:02 SPRINKLESREMAIN Hypothyroidism, tests "satisfactory" but TSH low.

[EDIT: just as I suspected, overmedication being overlooked. My dose has been reduced to 100mcg, gonna be tested more frequently until things are balanced! thank yall for your help, this was my first time my thyroid has gone hyper and i was terrified]
I looked around this subreddit for help, but I thought I'd post because it's driving me a little crazy
UK 18F Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism mid May 2022. Also had an ultrasound and PCOS diagnosis weeks later.
Having blood test today, was asking the nurse about difficulties talking to doctors on the phone, felt there was lack of context (all my thyroid-related appointments have been phone calls or texts. No written results sent to me)
She printed 2 blood test results from about a year apart. This is where the concern begins.
Both papers have good T4. But TSH is low. Provided the recommended range is 0.3 - 5.0, my TSH from Dec 2022 is 0.19 and Sept 2023 it's 0.02.
Doesn't make sense. I got texts during this time saying my results are satisfactory, no further action needed. But now I'm seeing the papers, I'm a bit worried.
I was prescribed 150 mcg Levothyroxine in September 2022 and been on that dose since. I think I'm being overmedicated but since I have no symptoms of Hyperthyroidism, it's not being looked at / it isn't important?
For context, the discovery of my conditions started when periods suddenly disappeared after I had Covid in August 2021. I often felt cold and my mother noticed I gained weight. Then I got diagnosed and started at 25mcg Levothyroxine, periods came back by June 2022, and have been regular since. I've even felt happier. I have had no significant symptoms since the dose gradually increased.
But with my TSH as low as 0.02, I'm a bit worried for my health. I've asked to talk face-to-face with a doctor for next review following the blood test today. I will try and get an explanation then.
For now, advice? Questions I can ask? Any experience is appreciated and will ease my mind 👍

2024.01.04 18:44 moosemochu Endocrinologist recommended to stop taking L-thyroxine after 10 years: What to expect?

Male, 45 y/o. I took L-thyroxine (T4; Euthyrox or Synthroid) over a period of 10 years after my former GP at that time found a slightly elevated TSH (4.7; 0.7-4.2) with normal fT3 and fT4 in a blood test in 2013. The reason for the examination at the time was a mild viral infection and clarification of a possible familial hereditary disease (negative). I also had depressive moods and some fatigue, and he "wanted to lower my TSH to the range of 1-2".
Anti-TPO and anti-Tg-antibodies were neither found back then, nor any time later.
I changed my GP shortly afterwards and continued to be treated by five different GPs in the new office. They continued prescribing different doses of L-thyroxine (50 - 100 µg), so that the regularly checked TSH, fT3 and fT4 were always within the laboratory's reference range.
The thyroid gland was never enlarged on ultrasound (9-11 mL, reference range <25 mL); at most it had a low echogenicity; nodules were never observed.
I never got an official diagnosis of Hashimotos or any other reasonable explanation for why I should take L-thyroxine; however, I was always told to take it as prescribed as my blood parameters were okay.
As of 2017, I got digestive symptoms of increasing intensity. While in 2018 a shriveled shrunken stome-filled gallbladder was removed, I got servere meteorism and postprandial burping for hours after each meal. In 2020, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, microscopic colitis, tumors, fructose/lactose/sorbit malabsorption were officially ruled out, and I got a diagnosis of "irritable bowel syndrome". This means, the gastroenterologists had no conclusive explanation for the immense symptoms, or just stopped taking care of. They found a chronic low-grade Helicobacter-negative antrum gastritis which, however, does not explain the intensity of symptoms. I found out by myself (after three years of burping) that taking 4.5 g betaine-HCl and 800 mg pepsine to each meal helps to some extent. Moreover, I found out taking ginger and artichoke pills in the evening stimulates my migrating motor cycle, which is recommended for people who have SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). It seems I have hypochlorhydria or achlorohydria (lack of gastric acid). This is my situation now, and it was only interrupted by two asymptomatic intervals (once for four months, and once for three weeks) were I did not need the betaine-HCl/pepsine.
In addition, in 2022 I got Raynaud's syndrome, weight fluctuations, sensitivity to cold, lethargy/fatigue/exhaustion, shaggy hair, a frequently raspy voice, fasciculations and foamy urine, all without any directional findings from any of the various specialists in angiology, dermatology, nephrology, rheumatology that I have consulted since then, and all of who have done thorough blood tests and physical examinations (in my opinion). ANA negative six times; one time 1:100 nuclear speckled (Ref. <1:100). My Apple watch registered elevated heart frequencies from time to time, but two 24 h electrocardiograms done with my GP were fine. My cardiofitness (VO2max, as measured by the watch) decreased from 45 to 33, but I do not exactly understand what this might mean.
In my last control for TSH, fT3, fT4, I also asked my GP to have my rT3 tested for the first time ... and ... it was elevated at 295 pg/mL (ref. 90-215).
My current dose is 62.5 µg/d of L-thyroxine.
Today I had my first ever appointment with an endocrinologist (after 10 years of taking L-thyroxine). After an ultrasound scan and checking my last blood values, he didn't see any reason to treat me with L-thyroxine and recommended that I stop taking the medication.
I am looking forward to see what awaits me in the coming weeks. I wonder whether all my symptoms are due to elevated rT3 and an overmedication with L-thyroxine. Was I overmedicated for a decade? Will the digestive problems and my tiredness decrease? Will I get even more tired?
While I do not have any specific questions, maybe someone will share his/her experience with with L-thyroxine, reverse T3 and possible overmedication, a T4 -> T3 conversion problem, and particularly digestive problems related to hypothyroidism.

2024.01.01 19:56 Cdp1928 A Lot going on at the moment and a ton of questions...

UPDATE: (In case anyone searches can comes across my post) my TSH My labs were normal except Vitamin D. Still super low and I have to eat more dairy and take a weekly supplement 1.590 and my T4 Free was 1.62. These were within lab corps ranges, so my Dr advised me to stay in my medication. The bleeding turned out to be a very early period. My Vitamin D was SO low, so now I have to take a weekly supplement for it.
With it being New Years Day, my doctor's office is closed, otherwise she'd be getting this message. I have an appointment Jan 18th
TL;DR: Got a lot going on thyroid, weight, fertility, and cycle wise and I have a lot of questions. Idk if it's my thyroid that's screwed up, or the Wegovy, or if I might be pregnant? Have any of you had issues with thyroid medication on Wegovy? Or regular cycles that suddenly went berserk? Am I overmedicated now? I have other results if needed but they were in range
I'm a 36f . I've been on Wegovy for a year. I take 200mg of Zoloft for OCD, and 25mcg of levothyroxine. I've been on Levothyroxine since April of 2021.
Before I started Wegovy, my husband (we have two kids together from us) got a vasectomy reversal. While his numbers aren't super great, they weren't bad enough to affect our ability to concieve. However, my weight, I believed, was.
Before Wegovy (April 2021), I had a thyroid TSH level of 3.29 and my OBGYN put me on 25mcg of Levothyroxine to bring it to 2.5 which she said is optimal for fertility. It was 2.32 in Nov 2021 and 2.78 in Nov 2022.
We sort of gave up on fertility at that point.
I started Wegovy in Jan 2023 at 250 lbs. In June I was at 213 with a TSH level of 1.92. still in range.
This whole time, from a weight of 250 to 185 and all different TSH levels, my period has never been irregular. Every 28 days. Sometimes 29, sometimes 26, and maybe a few outliers like 30 to 32 days here and there but never within the same year.
I know going off thyroid meds can cause anxiety, because in Oct 2022, I had a bad anxiety attack a few weeks after stopping my thyroid medication (my doctor and I were trying something different before Wegovy)
Cut to Dec 22 2023: I've been taking all my medications as prescribed and I have a panic attack this day for no obvious reason. I had a few days of vomiting, but idk if it was anxiety, or Wegovy (I usually have to take Pepto the first 3 days after my shot) or what.
Yesterday Dec 31 2023, I started spotting. It's Day 22 of my cycle. I've never had midcycle bleeding or spotting. I took a pregnancy test but it was negative (I'm 8 days past ovulation and 7 days until my period should start).
Idk if it's my thyroid that's screwed up, or the Wegovy, or if I might be pregnant? Have any of you had issues with thyroid medication on Wegovy? Or regular cycles that suddenly went berserk? Am I being overmedicated now? I have no idea what's going on.

2023.12.26 23:44 Fancy-Echidna-8651 Thyroid Question – Overmedicated?

Hi all,
I'm on TRT and also being treated with Armor Thyroid (NDT) for hypothyroid. I'm currently on a relatively high thyroid dose, but my doctor doesn't seem to think it's an issue. I don't have any major symptoms (aside from the occasional anxiety, which I think is normal?), but I think my lab-results suggest that I'm over-medicated
I'd love to get thoughts from this group on my blood test results. Please note that I got these tests done before taking my morning medication.
Do you all think I'm taking too much thyroid medication? What should I be aiming for my levels to be? Any thoughts?

2023.12.05 16:18 stellllan Am I overmedicated?

Am I overmedicated?
One doctor says I’m fine, another says I’m overmedicated and thyroid is artificially hyper due to the meds. Mostly not having symptoms of hyper but am having trouble sleeping lately. Confused because my T4 numbers are on the low end of normal? Can anyone help?

2023.11.27 22:15 strongbutterfly01 Looking for advice. Anyone else experienced this?

Hey guys, I wanted to share what’s going on with me specifically so that I can get y’all’s opinions. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in March 2021 and had my thyroid removed January 2022. I’ve been on levothyroxine ever since. For months and months I was never good about taking it properly and I recently just got a new endocrinologist. I was on 88 mcg when I came to see the new Dr and my TSH was at a 5. He prescribed me 100 mcg and I did start taking it properly. I wasn’t always waiting the 30 min to eat but I was taking it in the morning and on an empty stomach. I think there were only about two pills in the span of a month that I took at night time with other pills. I was on 100 mcg for about four weeks when I really started to feel bad. I had excessive hunger which is something I had when I was hyper and bathroom problems. I thought I may have been overmedicated so I went in to get TSH tested. It ended up coming back as a 8 even though I had been put on a higher dose. We decided to up my dose to 112 mcg and monitor my symptoms. They’ve eased up a little and I’m on day 7 of the new dose. Still feeling hungry, experiencing some facial flushing but no heat sensitivity. My heart rate and blood pressure are normal also.My fingernails are also kind of a yellowish orange tint. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar to me and am looking for some advice. My plan has kinda been to see what happens with the 112 mcg since my TSH was so high and just keep an eye on the symptoms.
