Cute loom knit stuffed animal toys!
I made these as prototypes for a possible crafting class and they really turned out so cute! I made a sheep too but it sold before I got a picture of it.
I'm trying to write up a pattern but I haven't done it before and I'm a very "make it up as you go" crafter. If you're making something like this, it's basically just 1) drawstring cast on 2) u-knit until you reach the wings 3) chain 1-2 stitches depending on how wide you want the wings and then reconnect to the main body 4) drawstring cast off. Then you stuff and add details like eyes, beak, or feet

First time posting. Don’t know if this flair is right or how important the flairs are. But, what personality types are most of your friends? My two closest and best friends are also entp. We found each other last year and are now three peas in a pod. I believe entps get along the best with other entp from my experience. I also have some other friends, i think one is entj and one esfp but I don’t know.

2024.05.29 04:49 CanadianRose81 I made David the Gnome

I made David the Gnome
It was my husband's birthday on Sunday, and I finished this today (May 28), and was able to give it to him. He really liked it. The whole thing is my own, except the hat as I followed a pattern for that. If anyone wants a laugh, the book I was making my notes and drawings in as I was figuring things out looks like some kind of illuminati code. 😂😂 I am quite pleased with how it came out. I cried a little after I finished it, as it was something that I did, and I wish my mom was here to see it (she passed away a little over ten years ago). She could knit and crochet like there was no tomorrow. She would be very proud. I've been crocheting for nine years this coming July. 🙂❤

Marita Cardigan Pattern Help
I've decided for my second knitting project to try out a bunch of things I haven't before, including chart reading. I don't understand the pattern repeat when I can see that all of the knit rows are exactly the same. Can someone explain what this means because I'm reading this as knit two, increase, knit 12, decrease, knit 12, increase, knit 2, repeat until the end of the piece?

2024.05.29 03:56 usedtobePlatinum Review Alaska Airlines First Class Boston to Portland last Friday, 5/24

REVIEW- Alaska Airlines Boston to Portland in First class (5/24/2024)

By Scott H. Johnson

Last Friday, May 24th, I flew First Class from Boston to Portland nonstop on Alaska airlines. On the Portland to Boston flight 4 days before, despite being MVP Gold, I didn’t even get a Premium seat. I had gotten my hopes up, because I sat at #1 on the First-Class upgrade list the whole day before, until about 6 pm when I plummeted to #12. Oh, well. I didn’t get my hopes up the day before I came home, as I was #3.
I was surprised that evening when I checked and I had been upgraded to my favorite seat -2A. Sometimes the upgrade gods smile when you least expect it.
Check in at Logan the next morning was a breeze. Despite the Armageddon-style warnings that Friday, May 24 would be the most awful travel day in recorded history, when I got off the bus from the rental car center, there were no crazed throngs, just folks walking to check-in like any other day.
The CLEAR line had a few folks peering into their retinal readers, so I used plain old TSA PreCheck. There were maybe 8 fliers in front of me. I quickly went through without any issues and it was time for a quick coffee. I am a member of Alaska’s Lounge Plus, and I often use the Admiral’s Club access it gives me, but I didn’t have time to wander (I thought!) down to their Club at B4 as it was almost 6:00 am and my flight was out of B36 at 6:20 am. I found a good place to stand and waited to board. 6:20 came and went, then a few moments came the dreaded “checking something on the aircraft” announcement. Great.
Priority group finally boarded at 6:50. I slid into my comfortable, familiar seat. This 737-800 still had the classic cloth pattern on the bulkhead; the top row always reminds me of a 1980s computer lab with seats, tables and giant monitors for your 286!

.

On each seat was a lightweight blanket sealed in plastic. No box of water on this flight, though.

I

in 52 years of flying, I have never once been cold on a plane, so off to the side it went. Our flight attendant came by offering water in a cup, but nothing else before takeoff.
We lifted off at 7:17. We headed east over the harbor and the Atlantic, then made a wide left turn, came back over land, and headed northwest. As I enjoyed the clear weather and the rolling scenery, our FA came by and checked on my breakfast order and offered the first drink service. I enjoyed the new Stumptown Roasters blend, a local Portland roaster who recently replaced Starbucks as the coffee on Alaska. It’s good, but I have had Starbucks for 20 years on Alaska, so it will take some getting used to.
I enjoyed looking out the window and seeing ski resorts in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and upstate New York. I logged onto Alaska’s Wi-Fi to see our route. We were to leave New York and fly over Lake Ontario, north of Toronto, then over Kingston, Ontario, across Ontario, Lake Huron and then re-enter US airspace in Michigan’s UP.
That’s why I always carry my passport, just in case…..No need today, happily.
Breakfast arrived and I enjoyed my frittata at 34,000 feet over Canada.

The entrée was warm, as were the sausage and potatoes. The fruit (orange segments, grapes, and cantaloupe) was cold. The blueberry muffin was warm and crumbly. I needed a fork for it. It was delicious, and the cold yogurt went well with the fruit. Another coffee and it was nap time.
I slept thru the next snack/beverage service, but I remember smelling decadent popcorn when my seatmate in 2C opened the “Lesser Evil” popcorn. When I woke up, our flight attendant (and I kick myself for not noticing/remembering his name, but I was exhausted on this trip) asked if I wanted a snack and/or a beverage. I asked about the popcorn he said he had one left. That and an ice water hit the spot. I noticed our flight attendant made many trips to folks behind me refilling drinks.
I listened to songs my ancient iPod, surfed Alaska’s excellent collection movies and TV shows and catnapped. Soon enough, the view outside was the Idaho mountains. I watched as we glided over Washington’s Tri Cities, then Hermiston, Oregon and began our descent over the Columbia River. Then the Captain announced that PDX was down to one runway, so they were slowing us down. Instead of flying due west, skirting the north slope of Mt. Hood as usual
and making a straight on approach to 28L, we took a left turn and leisurely flew over Clackamas County, eventually flying over Gresham from the south, then a left turn for our approach.
We were only 15 minutes late at the gate, so I had time to freshen up in the Alaska Lounge, have a coffee and some ham and cheese on a roll before the baggage arrived. The lounge in Portland is small but comfortable, with expanded seating out into the C terminal. My bag was in the first third or so, and it was time to drive home.

I am scheduled to make the same flight in June. I hope it is just as pleasurable. While not Emirates-level, Alaska First Class is relaxing and an enjoyable way to endure a coast-to-coast flight. Their service is top notch and always friendly and accommodating. I hope the upgrade gods smile again in June.

Scott H. Johnson travels several times a month and has over a million airmiles. His first flight was on a Piedmont Airlines 737 in 1971 from DCA to Richmond VA, and he’s been hooked ever since.

2024.05.29 03:07 beliael Blanket in mostly stockinette - how to deal with curling while knitting?

I'm currently knitting the Lisbeth blanket and it has a thick moss stitch border (10 moss stitches on each side) that I'm going to trust will prevent the blanket from curling once it's finished and blocked. I'm making a single bed size version of the blanket.
The blanket is curling like mad as I'm knitting it, to the point where on every even row that I'm purling, it's literally more difficult to get the needle into each stitch because the fabric is curling so much. The fabric is curling into an increasingly fatter tube around the cable as I'm knitting and it's making it more and more difficult to handle. Is there anything I can do about this as I'm knitting?
Edit: I've uploaded a photo of the WIP here: https://imgur.com/a/eSjHuVl

Tips on making chain mail for only some spots of my costume?
I’m going to a renfaire this summer and decided to make my costume a loose take on Link’s from Twilight Princess. He wears chainmail under his tunic thats partially visible as seen in the picture.
From what I read making a chainmail shirt is time consuming or expensive if purchases and another option is to knit or spray paint a knitted pattern. I was thinking though what if I only made pieces?
The idea would be to use aluminum rings and make a partial sleeve then either sew the top to the tunic or undershirt. Same with the neck piece and bottom of the tunic. Has anyone done anything similar?

Battle pass XP problems
After grinding for 3 hours, completing every story quest, all but 2 weekly quests, my daily quests, AND playing around 10 matches, I went from level 21 to 27. Now I’m sitting here wondering how on earth anyone can get to teir 200 this season without dumping hundreds of dollars into the pass. I know this has been a complain for a while now but if nothing is done about it soon it can cause a HUGE problem. I personally love the new season and am I fan of the new updates, but it’s getting really difficult to play when there’s no real sense of progression to feel accomplished of.

Finishing another's project--Questions
Hello!
I have just joined this page and this is my first post! I am looking for knitting community now that my local yarn store has closed :(
I have a couple of questions for you all, I appreciate your time and any advice with this!A friend recently gifted me a stash of yarn that belonged to a dear relative of hers who passed away. The stash included a WIP, not terribly far along (see photos). It is a ribbed piece with about a 1.25" hem. It measures about 11-12" across horizontally, stretches to about 14-15" inches across. The stash includes a number of skeins with the same yarn (no brand/labels included, looks like at least worsted weight if not a bit more).
I would like to make something for my friend that incorporates this WIP since it has sentimental value for her. I presumed it was the start of a sweater, given the hem. The ribbing is quite bulky/stiff but also very stretchy. I have two questions.
  1. I thought at first the piece was just knitted in 2x3 ribbing, but it is so elastic I actually wonder if it might be in a kind of brioche stitch or "unconventional" ribbing. I have never knitted in brioche and I'm having trouble determining whether this is it. What do you all think? What would be some tell-tale signs?
  2. Wondering if anyone can recommend an adaptable pattern to turn this into a sweater. I think it would be best to use finish the ribbed piece as the back of the sweater and use a different stitch for the front/sleeves. I have only ever knitted sweaters in the round, but clearly this would need to be knitted flat and stitched/seamed together. I have done a few ravelry searches with construction filters (worked flat, seamed) and a lot of the results seem overly elaborate, hard to adapt. Perhaps a "slipover" style sweater vest or something super basic like these: https://www.lionbrand.com/products/knitting-pattern-essential-fall-pullover or https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lulu-slipover
If seeing this WIP this sparks any ideas for anyone, I am grateful for your thoughts! Thank you!!

2024.05.28 23:34 LoneShark81 Little known facts about the OJ case

Denise Pilnak was a neighbor of Nicole’s. Her telephone bill shows she was on the phone from 10:25 PM and 10:28 PM. Prior to making this phone call, she and her friend noted how quiet the neighborhood was. Several minutes later between 10:33 and 10:35 PM, she testified that’s when she began to hear the sound of a barking dog, which is likely when the murders began. Allan Park testified to seeing OJ near the front door of the Rockingham estate at 10:55 PM, and his telephone records also document that. That leaves less than 25 minutes to commit the murders, drive back home, get rid of the evidence, etc.
Both Nicole and Ron had defensive wounds. Ron in particular was in hand to hand combat with whoever killed him, yet OJ had no injuries. The cut on his finger wasn’t seen by anyone who interacted with him at the airport, on the airplane ride to Chicago, nor when he immediately landed in Chicago. This includes people who got autographs from him, shook hands with him, and observed his hands. A broken glass was also found in his hotel room and it was documented he asked for a bandage at the hotel.
The FBI searched all of OJ’s and Nicole's credit card records and there was never any receipt found belonging to either of them that showed a purchase of Bruno Magli shoes. Every store that sold the shoes in the country was also searched, and they couldn't find anyone who sold him the shoes. The only proof of him owning them are the National Enquirer photos, which show him wearing suede shoes on a very rainy day. It was also found that the shoe soles that were said to be OJ's footprint were actually more popular than the prosecution maintained, the manufacturer sold the pattern to numerous shoe lines.
1.5 milliliters of OJ’s blood went missing from its vial. Thanos Peratis, the nurse who withdrew his blood, initially testified that he withdrew 8 milliliters. He took that back when only 6.5 appeared and the prosecution suggested he was mistaken. About a decade later he admitted to William Dear that he was certain he withdrew 8 millimeters because it was the amount he had drawn from patients all of his career, but he was close to retirement and had health problems so he didn’t want to cause any trouble.
The glove found at Bundy contained none of OJ’s DNA. The other glove found at Rockingham only contained his DNA in the area where Collin Yamauchi testified to spilling OJ's reference blood sample while handling it.
An identical knit cap matching the knit cap found lying on the ground next to one of the gloves was found in Nicole’s house. Those caps likely belonged to Sydney and Justin Simpson.
Two different people, John Meraz and William Blasini, encountered the Bronco at the lot where it had been impounded days after the murders. They both looked inside it for blood and testified they saw none. There was also only 1/8th of one drop of blood ever found inside it.
New York Times best selling author and journalist Stephen Singular was contacted by an anonymous source within the LAPD about the case a few weeks after the murders. He was told Mark Fuhrman made an undocumented trip to Rockingham in the early morning hours after the murders looking for evidence that would incriminate OJ. Rosa Lopez, a housekeeper for OJ’s next door neighbor, testified to hearing men’s voices coming from the yard of Rockingham in the early morning.
The source told Singular that Fuhrman used a broken piece of fence from Bundy to pick up one of the two gloves found and placed it in a blue plastic bag. Next, he was told Fuhrman removed the glove from the plastic bag and planted it at Rockingham. A broken piece of fence was eventually found at Bundy and a blue plastic bag was found at Rockingham, and both were introduced as evidence in the trial.
He was also told EDTA would be found in some of the blood evidence if tested, lab technicians had mishandled OJ’s blood samples, vials of OJ’s, Nicole’s, and Ron's blood were in possession of an LAPD detective for several hours before being booked into evidence, and that Fuhrman had been acquainted with Nicole in some way.
Singular relayed this information from the source to the defense team and was in communication with them for awhile. Pretty much all of it checked out, including an investigation conducted by the LAPD's Internal Affairs Division which revealed that Fuhrman was overheard by other LAPD officers bragging about being intimate with Nicole and seeing her boob job before she was murdered.
There were 17 fingerprints lifted from the Bundy crime scene that didn’t belong to OJ or any of the police officers involved in the case.
Brett Cantor ran a nightclub called The Dragonfly where Ron worked for him as a waitepromoter. Nicole was also a regular at the club. He was murdered a year before them in almost exactly the same way, by being stabbed repeatedly in the upper body and being nearly decapitated. Judge Ito ruled the defense team could review his case. His murder remains unsolved.
Casimir Sucharski, a friend of OJ's, was murdered alongside two female companions in his house in Florida by people with machine guns two weeks after Ron and Nicole were murdered.
Michael Nigg was friends with Ron and also worked at the Mezzaluna restaurant. He was murdered a year later in 1995 by being shot in the head after refusing to give his money to two men outside an ATM. The men who shot him didn't end up taking his money. His murder remains unsolved.
Not saying these murders are necessarily related to each other but it does make you wonder since all of these people reportedly led similar lifestyles which involved the use of cocaine. Faye Resnick, a cocaine addict, was also living with Nicole just days before the murders.
If you listen to the full 1993 911 call, OJ was mostly yelling about drugs and hookers being in the house. When police officers responded to the call, Nicole told the responding officers that OJ hadn’t hit her in four years. After the 1989 domestic violence incident, OJ added an addendum to their prenuptial agreement which stated that if he struck Nicole again, she would‘ve been entitled to a settlement of more than 5 million dollars.
OJ wasn't scheduled to be in LA during that week. He had been busy working and made a last minute decision to come back for Sydney's recital. Video taken of him afterwards shows him in a good mood, kissing his kids and the Brown’s goodbye.
Christian Reichardt spoke with OJ on the phone an hour before the murders and testified his demeanor was jovial and not indicative of a simmering murderous rage.
His telephone records also show he made phone calls trying to set up dates with a few models, one of which he told he was unattached to anyone. If he was in a jealous rage over Nicole, why was he trying to date other women?
After the bodies were discovered, Sydney told the police she heard her mommy (Nicole) fighting & crying with her best friend (Faye Resnick) on the phone earlier that night.
Sydney was planning to have a sleepover that night with one of her friends. According to family and friends who attended the recital and dinner, OJ was aware of this. Committing a murder with all those extra witnesses and the possibility of having the kids hurt or things getting out of control, in addition to having a flight to catch, doesn’t make sense.

2024.05.28 21:35 haydey I've never tried cotton kings sultan

But I want to! So first idea that I would like to do - a toddler dress. Either held single or double but I think held double might be too heavy?
Which leads to my first question: what weight range is sultan held single and double? I know it says sport but if I used small needles and held double or big needles and held single, could I get dk? Would held double be worsted or worsted/aran? I don't need exact answers on this front, just your experience and some ideas!
Also if you have a suggestion on a toddler summer dress pattern for sultan, link me please!
My other question is about a pattern for myself. So I'm working on the ripple worsted crop top and I wanna knit it again in sultan but a bit more cropped. Now I've read that cotton doesn't stretch much and is not a good choice for ribbing. Should I not use it for this pattern? Do you have a better yarn suggestion for this pattern that's lightweight for summer?
The alternative would be to use sultan for the framework bralette.

2024.05.28 21:27 No_Celery9390 Dissociation, substance use, and the disease model, oh my!

I hope I am not opening a can of worms, but this topic is like the princess and the pea for me -- the itch I am millimeters away from finally scratching, if I can just figure out the missing link. I'm starting to think that link is DISSOCIATION.
Someone else posted that their CPTSD "...highlighted that the incredibly low self esteem, strong inner critic, chronic dissociation and addictions were all part of a pattern - that DIDN'T equate to me being a problem."
I relate to this so strongly. When I was in my late teens&early 20s, right after escaping a lifetime of parentification and perfectionism with my abusive parents (BPD mother, NPD dad), I went through a "party phase" that ended with my mother's fundamentalist Christian community labelling me as a "sinner" while feeling sorry for my poor abusive mother and her misfortune of having such a " rebellious", "unforgiving" adult child. They see me in this light to this day and I'm 43!
12 step culture doubles down on this narrative ("resentments" that are actually legitimate wounds), and reduces all substance use (use, misuse, abuse, AND actual dependence) as indicating someone was born permanently disordered with spiritual flaws. I drank their Kool aid and attended some meetings for a very brief period, AFTER sobering up but before realizing how toxic the disease model is.
I don't consume like I used to, went on to get 2 degrees, quit church, went NC, etc, but all of this has always weighed on my mind as a severe misrepresentation. The causation is off -- the mechanisms of substance abuse. It's easier to blame the victim or try to pray it away than think critically about the bigger picture (abusive families, prayer does NOT fix personality disorders, and yes, emotional abuse harms children).
Lately I have been realizing that a lot of my struggles then and now stem from dissociating into a terrible place constructed in my head by my abusers. I have lived in that space for as long as I can remember, and praying only made it worse because I felt guilty when it invariably failed. That space consist of: Hypervigilance + rumination + an undertone of self loathing + constantly trying to figure everything out to survive + the 12 step model added an extra layer of hypervigilance about NOT doing X (like going on a diet ; restrict - binge - purge - repeat). It basically became another obsessive-compulsive layer in my "thought cocktail", like most self care tasks also do.
I guess my point is, if I had realized this in my 20s, I wouldn't have swallowed their load of BS and castigated myself about THAT on top of everything else. Rather than focusing on abstinence and sin, I wish I'd learned even ONE tool to still my mind and see the real cause of my suffering. Nope I've had to figure that out on my own DESPITE these people.
This was sort of rambly but I hope you get my point. Curious to see if anyone else is bothered by this. Not interested in a defense of the disease model. Thanks!
