2024.05.16 03:31 Biruleiby What's the best way to sync music on Macbook?

I've just bought an iPod, and I'm excited to use it primarily as a music player to enjoy high-quality sound and disconnect from my phone.
I have a hard drive with a music library that I've been building for the past 10 years. However, it's been dormant for the last four years as I switched to using Apple Music exclusively.
I've already synced this library with my Apple Music to use the iCloud Library, allowing me to have the same library available for streaming on Apple Music whenever I want.
Now, I want to get back to owning my music files. My plan is to discover new music and artists throughout the month, and at the end of the month, I'll choose one or two albums to download or purchase on iTunes.
My question is, how do I mix downloaded files, iTunes purchases, and my old library now on iCloud Library?
Should I sync my iPod with the music app, or upload the files manually? If I go with manual uploads, how do I access the files from an iTunes purchase?
————————————————————————————————————————————————
Note: I use a MacBook, and I need to buy on iTunes because some indie artists I like only have their music available there, or they're too obscure to find through alternative means

2024.05.16 01:11 _do_you_think Can I control Apple Music on my iPhone SE using another iPhone SE (2ndEd)?

So I will have music playing from one phone, but I want to be able to skip/change songs from my other phone.
I have both iPhones on the same WiFi network, and both are signed in with the same Apple ID. I can confirm this because I can toggle on my iPhone SE 2 personal hotspot using my iPhone SE.
When I go to Apple Music on both phones and go to the “currently playing” view, and select the air play option, I just see one row “iPhone”. Clicking on it doesn’t do anything… should I see the other phone here?
The Apple Music Remote app doesn’t work for my use case since it only connects your phone to iTunes on a Mac or PC. I want to connect one phone to another.
Is there another way to do this?

2024.05.15 05:07 paulrudder Is there any way to access an iTunes library from an external hard drive without the device being plugged into my MacBook?

I found an old external hard drive with my old iTunes library… it was pretty sizable as I had not just my iTunes purchases and mp3 downloads but also a ton of live bootlegs and stuff (huge Prince fan, have a colossal library of non studio stuff).
Here are my questions:

2024.05.14 23:04 bradbradenson Guide: Exporting Playlists from Music (iTunes) to HiBy R3 II on Mac

TL;DR: There is a relatively painless way to export playlists from Music (iTunes) on Mac to a HiBy R3
Background (skip to 'Solution' if you got here from Google and don't care): I may be a corner case here, but I'm posting this here in case someone else ends up in my situation. This does involve a paid app from the App Store, but it's pretty cheap, and well worth it if you're in this situation.
I use the Music app (fka iTunes) to manage my music library. iTunes is not great but it's kind of the least bad option on mac. My library doesn't nearly fit on my phone, so I also recently bought a HiBy R3 II, so I would have a way to listen in the car, at work, etc..
Obviously the HiBy doesn't integrate with iTunes, and I wouldn't expect it to, but the question did arise: how the hell do I get my playlists onto this thing? Exporting .m3u files from iTunes doesn't work. The files are encoded weird, they use absolute paths with forward slashes, and the HiBy seemingly can't handle headers. Also, exporting .m3u files from iTunes requires clicking File/Library/Export Playlist... for every individual playlist. Not great!
Solution: One prerequisite is that you store music files on your HiBy with the same folder structure as your iTunes library. I personally just copied the entire contents my library folder (/Users/xxxxx/Music/Music/) to a folder called Music/ on the HiBy SD card.
And that's it! The process is lengthy on the first go-around, but you only have to set up the template once and subsequent runs are pretty quick. Hopefully this is helpful to the small handful of folks who find themselves in my situation.

2024.05.14 13:07 Master-Objective3649 How do you sync pictures, videos, files to SSD Drive instead of the MacBook drive?

I bought a 1 TB Samsung T7 shield I backed up on Time Machine all my MacBook data. What I can’t figure out is how to sync my iPhone or even sync my iPhone on iTunes and have it back up to my T7. My MacBook Air is 2019 I screwed up and got 128GB thinking I will only use it for streaming. I got a iPhone 14 Pro with 128 gb and bought extra storage so I now have 200 gb and it’s almost full so I need to load it on the T7. But my MacBook has only 25 GB of storage left and I can’t airdrop big files. Is there a way to back up my iPhone? I saw there’s an Apple adapter for $39 but I already spent $175 and don’t want to spend more.

2024.05.14 11:43 Rywinfield Civ 6 iOS Mod Zip file

Hi all,
I'm aware you can download Mod's for Civ6 iOS via the Steam Store / file explorer apps / iTunes and transfer them to the Civ6 folder. However, I don't have access to a PC / Mac that I can actually download Steam on and download Civ 6 desktop and the mods I then want to then transfer to my iPad.
My question for the community is, does anyone have a zip file of their mod's folder (or just one with a few of the most popular iOS compatible mods) available to share?
I only have access to my work Mac which is locked down to downloading 3rd party apps and to be honest I don't really want to download steam onto here anyway. Alternately, any help on how to download these mods to my desktop from Steam web and then onto my iPad would be amazing.
Thanks

2024.05.14 02:18 NoPistons7 iPod Nano 7th gen not recognized

Hey everyone,
I was trying to restore a used second hand iPod Nano and while connected to iTunes it was working but then for whatever reason it quickly disconnected and reconnected and never restored itself.
Now any computer in my house can charge it but not connect to it. I have tried restarting it multiple times, either unplugged or plugged in and it still wont recognize it. It works fine otherwise, but I will never be able to put music on it again.
Any ideas? Everything is up to date on the iPod and Mac.

2024.05.13 20:59 FetChaker21 Best Mac to buy for light use but with higher storage?

Currently in the market for a new MacBook, not a heavy user but mostly in use for music related stuff. My iTunes library is growing and my current Mac is fast running low on space. It’s also old (2012/512Gb) so an upgrade is well overdue, I am just wondering what would be the best option for this criteria ?
I have a researched a little, given the light use I would prefer not to spend too much although I could stretch a little if necessary.
I have looked at refurbished models on apples website, they are slightly cheaper obviously but not by much.
I have looked on macfinder and found a couple of potentials from 2021, I would like to have ideally a 15”-16” screen size. However the majority of these have only 512GB of space (same as current) 1TB would be preferred.
I have found a work around with the Transcend JetDrive lite 330, essentially just a SD card in varying sizes that fits flush in the SD card slot. Not sure if this would be wise to store my entire music library on?
Otherwise I could buy an external hard drive to store my music library on, but I feel that would be a hassle and potentially lead to corruption if I forgot to close it down properly among other potential problems.
Otherwise I’m not sure if there’s any other options other than just biting the bullet and shelling out a lot of money for the storage?

2024.05.13 19:30 tripthemgently help understanding DAC (currently using Airport Express)

I could use some help understanding which DACs are in use throughout my system, and what to think about if/when I make changes.
Overview of my setup:
My questions, some of which are related:
  1. If I'm streaming from any device over the Airport Express, it's using only the Airport Express DAC, right?
  2. Looking at the Arcam A80 manual, it seems that the built-in DAC can only be engaged through the "CD" input, which I use for a CD player. Is my understanding correct?
  3. Is there any way (or benefit) to using the Arcam's built-in DAC for streaming, given that I'm using the CD input for CD player?
  4. If and when the Airport Express bites the dust, I assume I will need to buy an external DAC device, or a new amp with more functionality built in. What options provide the same streaming capabilities, and do they offer significant improvement over the Airport Express DAC? (It seems that modern Apple devices have a pretty decent DAC—if you're physically connected to the source, which doesn't apply to my setup—but not sure about quality of Airport Express DAC.)
Thanks all for any guidance here!

2024.05.13 15:30 SancVenator So frustrated, cant transfer files off of iphone.

I am actually so upset right now. I have spent hours upon hours of my time scouring every possible fix on the internet, chatgpt, reddit and other forums but I am just so fucking lost and angry. (BEFORE AUTOMATIC REMOVAL: I HAVE SEARCHED AND TRIED EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE FIX I HAVE FOUND ONLINE!!!!!!!!!)
I recently bought an iphone (15 promax) for the first time ever (regret it so fucking much, never making this mistake again) and it seems to try and be the least helpful or usable device possible. My most recent struggle is offloading images or photos. Silly me bought the phone because I work alot with photos and videos and the camera is crazy powerful. Issue is, my pc wont ever open the files when connected with a USB. Icloud apparently costs money to upload my stuff, and Itunes usb tethering simply does not allow picture transfers.
My photos are literally being held hostage on this device. I have tried every single fucking fix possible on the internet, phone is left fully on, logged in to photos, screen sleep off, PC is trusted, restarts and driver updates on both, bought two new USB cables, installed and reinstalled itunes, updated IOS, phone password disabled, relogged into apple ID, tried different apple IDs, and so many other things. This has been going on for weeks.
I am at the point where I will literally have to have a technician manually remove whatever fucked up storage card this thing uses and find a way to transfer it, before just selling it and buying a normal phone again. I am assuming the reason that Apple designs this to be near impossible is to sell more Macs? As my friend who has a mac has no problem transfering back and forth. But absolutely FUCK a corporation that is so stingy they cant even design their products correctly. They are holding my intellectual property hostage until I buy a new apple computer.
Lastly, for the crucial stuff I just emailed or whatsapped it to myself, but those are both extremely limited AND they compress my footage making it professionally unusable. I am 48 hours out from giving up and just selling this device to buy a new android or google pixel, if anyone has any idea how I might be able to fix my predicament, PLEASE let me know.

I just wanted to have it as a backup for my wife, I'm unfamiliar with iphones. I hooked it to my wife's Mac and it did not recognize the device. I have no way to obtain the original owners ITunes information. Please help me just factory reset the device. I'm unsure of which IOS it is running.

Important Information!

I am not responsible nor liable for the loss of your Niantic game account(s) or money if you do this currency exchange exploit to buy cheaper Poke Coins. Spending money on this game will not prevent a strike (or ban) as the result of breaking Niantic's Terms of Service.
Can you receive a strike (or ban) for doing this currency exchange exploit?
Everyone's answer is a "no", but I think Niantic's answer could be a "yes" because they are the one who wrote their Terms of Service. When you receive a strike message on your account, it does not tell you exactly what you did. You do not know if it came from doing this exploit, from spoofing or botting, harassing someone in Campfire, live streaming your cheating, abusing the Niantic Wayfarer program, submitting bad routes, uploading poor quality AR+ scans, and/or etc. Since I do not keep a daily record of your actions, I do not know where you're strike came from. The best way to avoid a strike is not break Niantic's Terms of Service.
"I don't see the violation listed in the Terms of Service."
The Terms of Service is usually vague (lacks details) to prevent you from suing the company and winning in a US court system (other countries will be different). You have an interpretation, Niantic has their own interpretation. You will have to battle against their million dollar lawyers to see if your interpretation is correct and not at fault. Since I am not a lawyer, I will not decide for you.
"You're ruining the currency!"
If you can buy 3x 14,500 coins for about $90 USD. This is a deal. Who wouldn't go out of their way to get an extra 29,000 coins with their $100 or would you rather pay $100 for 1x 14,500 coins?
"It's your fault for Niantic blocking a method!"
It's really the fault of the cheap poke coin sellers or scammers who gave hints on how to do it. Once someone has figured it out and shared it with another person, it is no longer a secret because people love to brag about it. Someone was bound to fuck up and leaked the whole process. All the current working method have been made public.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!!

1 - I do not own an iOS device like an iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer and therefore cannot help you with any problems related to these devices.

2 - Some methods will require a VPN, which will require money to use their service. If you plan to use a free VPN, they can steal or sell your data.

3 - If a method requires a Samsung Galaxy device, your Samsung device must have a locked bootloader, which cannot be rooted or cannot have custom software (for example: custom recovery like TWRP or custom rom like LineageOS, PixelROM, ASOP, etc). You must use the original Samsung's OneUI rom.

4 - The instructions below may not be clear, since I copied them from people messaging me and from a Discord group (https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6). I added some touch-ups to the methods. The chart picture comes from the Discord group.

5 - Be prepare to waste time and money if something does not work or you don't get your new device on time to do a method.

iOS Methods

You can discuss iOS Poke Coin methods, but you are not allowed to discuss iOS spoofing methods because this is an Android only spoofing subreddit.

Method #2 by CallMeCloudyXD
X country means any country with a cheap currency.
Requirements:
  • iPhone or iPad

  1. First you go to google and search “make new apple ID”.
  2. Create a new apple ID with the region being X country, and use a random matching country 's address for the billing address.
  3. For payment method, check “none” for the time being.
  4. After you’ve made the account, you go to the app store, click your profile at the top right, scroll down and click sign out.
  5. Sign into your new account and add itunes card then you sign into pogo and it should change the prices.
Notes:
  • Normally the prices are more expensive because of the way apple has their sales but it’s still discounted.
  • Buy iTunes gift cards with the balance you want and then add it to your apple store funds. Cards must be for X country's Apple store. www.g2a.com and www.turgame.com are popular sites for buying.
  • jfkmas1 said: " I can confirm it still works in ios (no necessary to create a new AppleID, using an old one by changing the country and adding GS prepaid card) . after some days, it prompts you to re-confirm prepaid card data as Expiration date and CVV, but it works perfectly (no vpn needed)" in chat with me.

Android Methods

Method #1: Galaxy Store method - Brazil by phwa1
Requirements:
  1. Samsung Galaxy Device with a locked bootloader
  2. Paid VPN app
  3. PayPal account
Link: https://new.reddit.com/PoGoAndroidSpoofing/comments/1cjorgv/androidsamsung_coin_method/
  • $37 USD for 14,500 coins using Brazilian dollars.
Method #2: Galaxy Store method - Indonesia by https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6
Requirements:
  1. Must remove SIM card.
  2. Samsung Galaxy Device with a locked bootloader
  3. Indonesian phone number
  4. GoPay account
  5. VPN app
  6. PayPal account
  7. Xoom
Instructions:
Step 1: Get an Indonesian phone number using the "TextMe" app.
  • $5 for one week
  • $10 for one month
Step 2: Make a GoPay account using your Indonesian phone number; you will need to set up a PIN and add an email address as well.
  • You can download this on the Play Store.
  • GoPay has an English option under settings.
Step 3: Buy PayPal USD also known as "PYUSD".
  • This is a cryptocurrency used by PayPal to avoid conversion fees on international money transfers.
  • You can buy this using your credit/debit card or bank account.
Step 4: Download Xoom app.
  • This is a partner to Paypal which assists in sending international money transfers.
  • This will avoid the 4.99 transaction fee but will be charged a $0.40 cent conversion fee instead.
When you use Xoom:
  1. Click on ‘Send Money’
  2. Click ‘Indonesia’
  3. Click ‘Mobile Wallet’
  4. Click ‘GoPay’ and enter your Indonesian number
  5. Fill in the contact information
  6. On checkout select PYUSD.
Step 5: On your Samsung device, clear all of your storage data on the Galaxy store and Galaxy internet.
  • Remove your SIM and delete Pokemon Go.
  • Use a VPN to Indonesia - there is a free VPN called TunnelBear on the playstore.
Step 6: Go on Galaxy internet, type in "Pokemon Go Indonesia Galaxy Store" and download it.
Step 7: Sign into your Pokemon Go account and make your purchase, you will be prompted to add a payment method.
  • Select GoPay as your payment method, you will be taken over to GoPay to link your Galaxy Store to your GoPay account.
  • Then, you should be able to make a purchase using your GoPay account.
Notes:
  • PayPal USD (PYUSD) is very sensitive. I made an $11 purchase originally, and I tried to make another $22 purchase to buy the 14,500 pack, but PYUSD didn't show as an option.
  • The person said he called PayPal and they said: When using the crypto, you sometimes can't do it back-to-back and will have to wait a couple hours, up to 72 hours maximum. My advice would be to send $33 upfront to buy the 14,500 pack so you can avoid the wait time.
  • When you're buying the 14,500 pack, you will be spending $33 USD because PayPal takes $1.50 conversion fee. The person recommends sending a dollar extra just to be safe.
  • Overall price for first time purchase including cost of phone number is $38 for the one week phone number or $43 for the one month phone number. The person suggests doing this when you have enough money to buy large amounts of Poke Coins to avoid having to repurchase the phone number later on.
Method #3: Play Store - India by https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6
Requirements:
  1. Spoofing method to set Pokemon Go's location in India
  2. Paid VPN app
  3. PayPal account
Instructions

  9. Remove all Gmail accounts aside from your newest one that you added the payment method to.
  10. Download Pokemon Go - prices will still show in your country’s currency initially, but it changes to India currency whenever you click it.
Notes:
  • The account you use to create the family group doesn’t have to be new, but it can’t have changed its country location.
  • So if you don’t have any accounts that still have their original location, make a new one.
Method #4: Play Store - Indonesia by Anonymous user
Requirements:
  1. Google Family Group account
  2. Personal Gmail account
  3. Ability to create a new Gmail account
Step 1: Create a GOOGLE FAMILY GROUP with your personal Gmail account. This account will be the family manager.
Step 2: Using the Gmail app, create a new Gmail account for personal use.

Step 5: Go to the google play store and download Pokemon Go.
  • You can allow location services.
  • The prices will be in your local currency but when you select the coin bundle you’ll see the Indonesian pricing.
Method #5: Niantic's Web Store - India by https://discord.com/invite/cWFTvNF6V6
Requirements:
  1. Spoofing method to set Pokemon Go's location in India
  2. Paid VPN app
  3. PayPal account
Instructions
  1. Spoof your Pokemon Go account to India.
  2. Search for "Niantic's Web Store" in Chrome app (or any web browser app) and use incognito mode with VPN to an India server.
  3. Press on the 15,500 pack and sign into your account.
  4. Buy the 15,500 pack on the website.
  5. Pay with PayPal to complete purchase!
Notes:
  • Make sure before you spoof, your account is logged out from all devices. (Adventure Sync fucks with currency after logging into webstore.
  • Spoof (they used iMyFone AnyTo) to Indonesia Use VPN (they use NordVPN) and incognito and open webstore
  • Click on product you want to buy then log in
  • Use Paypal
  • Only issue is it prevents you from purchasing after a few times and there is a "cooldown". (The person said he doesn't know how long this is but should be somewhere from 12-18 hours long (from his experience).
  • If you’re having trouble using this method try logging in with your Pokemon Trainer Club account.
  • To make this method work every time you have to buy the currency using another method just buy the 100 coin pack in your desired currency then the webstore will change guaranteed doing this method.

I bought some Poke Coins, but they do not appear?
Answer: You must authorize the payments with your card company or bank to allow these transactions to happen. Once you do this, you will have to make a second purchase then the Poke Coins will appear.
If you still have the problem, to authorize the transactions, you must do one of these actions:
  • Reply "Y" or "Yes" to a text message.

2024.05.10 03:25 ThrowawayBlueYeti Just Bought a Classic - I'm New Could You Help Me?

Hi everyone!
Super excited to be introduced to this community. I just bought a 60 GB iPod Video A1136. I think I may have overpaid, I bought on ShopGoodwill but honestly I didn't pay more than I saw for prices on eBay and FB Marketplace, I definitely paid less than I would have if I had gone to EOE. But now I'm not sure what I should do first.
To test things on my M1 Mac I synced my 2GB iPod Nano 2nd Gen just to make sure my computer will recognize an iPod. It does, but I think I've found out that I have two music folders. I have Music > iTunes > iTunes Music but also Music > Media > Music plus Music > Media > Apple Music. I don't have any duplicates in Music and it is treated all the same on my iPhone. I know you can't put Apple Music on iPods but when I connected my iPod I didn't see my entire music library I could sync through finder, even stuff I know I bought a long time ago when I had iTunes. In the end I was able to get music on my iPod Nano but I only got 7 albums on there and a weird album appears named a nonsensical string of numbers with the artist name and it plays nothing and shows 0:00 for song length. I use Apple's highest quality audio format for my ripped CD's and I know that Apple Music has been converting people's audio files to higher bit rate, but I'm not sure if that is what is going on and maybe there is something it isn't recognizing. It used to fit a lot more. But at least I know my Mac can recognize an iPod.
Now I'm wondering what to do first. My idea was to plug it in, see if it holds a charge and if it does to reset it and put some music on it. But should I replace the battery right away? Should I open it up to see what the contents inside look like? I'm not sure I'd even know what to look for. The photos didn't look like the battery was swelling. Any suggestions on what improvements I should make?
I'm a little nervous about doing this myself but my dad was a former aircraft mechanic and he can solder so I'm hoping he can help me if I need to do that to replace anything more than the battery.
I hope that wasn't too lengthy, but hello! I've lurked here for a bit and enjoy seeing your old iPods. Advice would be super appreciated :).
EDIT: One thing that confuses me is that my iPod Nano 2nd Gen shows it is mounted in two places, one finder recognizes to load music and one as if it is a hard drive. I can't restore or unmount the iPod without a message saying "This drive cannot be unmounted because there is an another program using it." and I have to shut down my computer or take it out incorrectly. Does anyone know what might cause this and will it be an issue with my 5?

Backup 15 Pro via USB cable still running at USB 2.0 speed, painfully slow
I have my iPhone regularlly backed up to my Lenovo laptop, with USB4 ports built in. I connect my iPhone 15 Pro 256g to my laptop via a google USB 3 type-c cable that provides a 10gb speed with my external ssd.
The windows device center says my iPhone is successfully "Connected to USB 3.0", but the backup speed in Apple Devices app and iTunes for Windows is still running at 40-60 mb/s, exactly the same as previous iPhone gens with USB2 lightning port.
My laptop details: a 2023 Lenovo Ideapad, AMD 7840HS, Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 1TB SSD, port USB 4 + USB 3 *2

I see this complaint in this sub also from Mac users using Apple's original Thunderbolt 4 cable, so just wanna share and ask if this is the commom issue for 15 Pro/Max users or my problem with the cable or devices.
For everyone thinks this is my individual problem, I wanna share some "Peer Reviews" that I read when trying solving this on Google:

2024.05.08 23:27 ghandimauler Need a good distro for browsing, music, video watching, and for an elder (with all that includes)

My father-in-law has been a Mac user for a long time. His old ass Mac can't go beyond El Capitan 10.12 so he can't even get newer mail apps and he lost most of his email when Rogers changed something (removed Apple mail support maybe?). It's also as slow as molasses in January. He is also fidgety so the less things he can poke at that could trigger effects that might be bad seems like a real benefit.
I've noticed in most other areas of life, we've done a crappy job at having simple devices with safety in mind (failures: stoves, TV remotes, software, OSes, UIs/UXs) so if I can't get everything I want, that's just how the world is. Maybe somebody with money should throw $$$ at a distro builder to build one very specifically for old folks. But I digress...
I'm the IT person in the house, but I'm android/Windows/Linux sometimes at work (RHEL) or at home (Xubuntu). Every contact I have with the old Mac makes me break out in aneurysms. I like Ubuntu, but I dislike snaps. I also hate Gnome (Hence Xubuntu for the XFCE).
So I'm looking for a linus distro that has:
  • An easy UI (no keyboard shortcuts, ability to limit what shows on drop down menus, no gestures, and large enough text and icons without having having to run at 1024x640 or the like - want to have a 24-27" LED monitor)
  • Most actions will be mouse other than writing emails.
  • Needs a real IMAP mail client (if there's a Thunderbird build for Linux or the like, that'd be fine).
  • Has to have a decent browser (He's been using Chromium but maybe there's a better one - he also has a Gmail account and we're involving him into Goggle Calendar - and we have a Skylight).
  • Mostly I expect: Gmail (with the IMAP for bringing down the mail for archiving), Facebook, YouTube, some sent videos, he should have an itunes account somewhere, and he can draw from our storage array that has a lot of music he'd like, software for pulling pics and music from an android phone, audio player (I loved WinAmp back when, but maybe there is something as good now), and some sort of picture roll for a background. Ability to handle PDFs and Word docs are necessary - people send him that stuff.
  • Printer drivers for Canon EcoTank printers
  • Drivers for 2.5G ethernet
  • Backup for networking is some kind of BT or Wifi dongle with driver
  • For updates, I'd like an easy approach - I don't want to get stuck in update hell.
Some of what I need is hardware, but I need to be sure the hardware has drivers in the distro I pick. FWIW, I'm in Canada if that has any aspect.
Thoughts?

2024.05.08 19:15 sparrowed_ A Comprehensive Guide to Installing Working Apps on a Jailbroken iPad Mini 1 with iOS 9.3.5

Helloooo,
So over the past few days I've scoured through countless replies and posts in this reddit to jailbreak and install the last compatible versions of the apps I often use. This lead me down a wild rabbithole of loose ends for two days, but I managed to get it to work the way I wanted to by piecing together information from all that information I've found. Because I would have loved a comprehensive tutorial on the easiest way to do this for my specific iPad and iOS version, I've decided to be that person who provides this tutorial for anybody else looking to do the same. It's gonna be a bit of a long tutorial, but if you really want your iPad Mini to have some its functionality back, it'll be worth it.

If you have any questions about how to perform certain basic steps, please do your own research first before asking your question. If you have a different iOS, don't bother asking your question, because I only know what I've figured out for iOS 9.3.5 and I cannot help you with your iOS version.

(I genuinely love to help with what I know when you are stuck on a step or need more information, but if it's a question that can be answered by just looking at the information provided in the Wiki, I will not entertain answering either 😘)
Step 1: Jailbreak your iPad Mini
Follow this tutorial by u/whoit61 to jailbreak your iPad Mini 1, but we do not need to use Sideloadly for installing the apps you want. More on that later. Come back to this tutorial once you've jailbroken and installed Cydia on your iPad Mini.
Step 2: Installing necessary tweaks
Now you'll have the following tools installed:
  • Phoenix 6 (Jailbreak iOS app)
  • Cydia (iOS app to install tweaks and apps)
  • BigBoss Repo (huge repository with a lot of useful tweaks you can install.) BigBoss is one of the pre-installed repositories when you install Cydia, but if for some reason you don't have it in your sources, the link to add it is: http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/
We'll need to install some important tweaks in Cydia to get the rest of this tutorial to work. I'll also list the other optional tweaks here that I've personally installed. I'll provide the URL's of the repositories for these tweaks as well.
Necessary:
  • App Admin (Used to manually downgrade certain apps to an earlier version to get them to work, more on this later) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • Checkmate, Store! (Used to let you download iOS Apps from the App Store when you'd normally get the message "This App Is Not Compatible With This iPad". Note: this tweak will not help you prevent the message that the App requires a higher iOS to download. If you want to install an app that gives you that message, you're out of luck. You will not be able to download it.) - Link to the repo: http://cydia.invoxiplaygames.uk/
  • Filza File Manager (File Manager needed to spoof certain apps to get them to work.) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • ReProvision Reborn (iOS app to automatically re-sign app - used to keep Phoenix current.) - Link to the repo: https://repo.satoh.dev/
  • iCleaner Pro (iOS system cleanup and utility manager. Used to delete temp-files, cache-files and basically any useless files stored on your iPad. Helps with the limited amount of storage you have.) - Link to the repo: http://cydia.akemi.ai/
  • NoGoogleAMP (Tweak that automatically calls "Request Desktop Site" on Google AMP sites, so the original website will load. Used for log-ins to your Google Account.) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • Stashing for iOS 9.2-9.3.5 (this helps with storage space issues.) - Link to the repo: http://cydia.akemi.ai/
Optional:
  • Activator (Management tool for changing gestures, buttons and shortcuts in iOS) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • AppSync Unified (ONLY FOR SIDELOADING, DO NOT INSTALL THIS WHEN YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD LEGITIMATE APPS THROUGH THE APPSTORE, IT WILL INTERVERE WITH APP ADMIN AND CHECKMATE, STORE! WHEN YOU GO TO DOWNLOAD APPS FROM THE APPSTORE!!! iOS tweak for extending the time an app can run, 3 days without it) - Link to the repo: http://cydia.akemi.ai/
  • YTHDUnlocker (Unlocks HD Videos in YouTube App, cause let's be real... we don't want to look just at 720p, when our iPad can easily play HD video's...) - Link to the repo: https://julioverne.github.io/
  • Vendura iOS [BETA] (Tweak to install a... petty workaround for the YouTube app to be able to watch YouTube video's through the YouTube app. It does not have the same functionality as the true YouTube App, but it's faster than watching it through a browser like Safari, Google Chrome, FireFox or Puffin) - Installing this requires manually following a different tutorial, more on this in Step 5, but leave this be for now. We need to do other stuff first.
  • tweakCompatible (Very useful tweak to check if a tweak you want to install in Cydia is compatible with your iOS version or not) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • SafariBeBetter (Allows you to change some Safari functionalities) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • SafariFix (Will fix reloading issues in Safari) - Found in the BigBoss Repo.
  • Preference Organizer 2 (Organizes your Preferences in the Settings app into categories. Useful for following the Vendura iOS tutorial, because it'll look the same as the video tutorial of the creator) - Link to the repo: http://cydia.akemi.ai/
Step 3: How to Review your Apple ID account information when you haven't accessed the App Store on a different iDevice before and are unable to do so
You can skip this step if your Apple ID account has accessed the App Store before, but if you are like me and your new Apple ID hasn't accessed the App Store before, you'll run into a problem. Your iPad will ask you to review your account information, but it will not even let you pass the Terms & Conditions page. The 'Next' button will do nothing. Trying to do the same thing on iTunes via your PC, will also result in not being able to continue after you've filled in your personal information and a payment option. You'll get an error saying that you need to contact Apple for support.
I've found a workaround by logging in to Apple Music via their Webplayer. Note that it'll probably ask you for a Two-Factor-Identification, so keep your iPad on hand to log-in. Once you've logged in to Apple Music go to Settings > Account Settings > Account Summary > Manage Payments. Add a payment option AND your billing adress and save your changes. This will count as reviewing your account information on your iPad Mini as well and you're now able to download Apps through the App Store. Yipppieeeee!!!!
Step 4: Installing the last compatible versions of the apps you want
Whoof, that was already a lot of work. Good job, I'll assume you've got all of the necessary tweaks installed now and your AppleID account information has been reviewed. We'll discuss how you can install the apps you want.
There are 3 paths you can take. I'll focus on the second one, because I do not have an alternative iDevice that I could use to download the Apps I wanted and get them into my Purchased tab.
Think of Sideloading apps onto your iPad Mini as your last possible option of getting the app you want on your iPad Mini, if nothing else works or that app is not available in the App Store anymore at all.
  1. Purchase the App in the App Store on a newer iDevice with the minimal required iOS.
  2. Purchase the App in the App Store on a Windows computer with iTunes 12.6.3.
    1. I believe there is a workaround to get iTunes 12.6.3 on your iMac, but you'll have to find other people's posts/tutorials on how to do that, sorry. This tutorial is only useful for people with a Windows PC x64 or x32.
    2. Download iTunes 12.6.3 on your PC via the link above. If you have a more recent version of iTunes already installed on your PC, uninstall it and move the iTunes Library.itl file from C:\Users\[user]\Music\iTunes to your Desktop for safekeeping. Once you installed iTunes 12.6.3, it'll make a new library.itl file for you and allows you to access and 'Purchase' apps in the App Store.
    3. Once you have iTunes 12.6.3 installed, log in with your Apple ID and go to the Store tab.
    4. Switch from Music to Apps and now you can search for any Apps you'd wish to install on your iPad Mini. Make sure that your iPad Mini is not connected to your PC with a USB cable. Simple click on '+ Get' to purchase the apps you want.
    5. Now go to the App Store on your iPad Mini and head to the Purchase tab. You can now download the apps by clicking on the cloud-download icon. It'll ask you: "Do you want to download the last compatible version?" Click on Download. It'll download the last compatible version for you.
    6. Bada-bing-bada-boom, you have the app downloaded on your iPad Mini now. Head to Step 5 for a guide on how to get some apps like Reddit and YouTube (and by association, other Google apps) actually working again.
  3. Sideload the App with the last compatible IPA using Sideloady. https://sideloadly.io/
    1. READ THE ENTIRE Sideloadly page - there's a ton of useful info and help.
    2. Run the Sideloadly installer on your PC.
    3. Find the last compatible IPA you need at the IPA Archive or look at the resources provided in the FAQ. I'll post the softwareVersionExternalIdentifyers and other useful information about the last compatible apps I've installed in Appendix A at the bottom of this post.
If you want cross-functionality (for example, for you Google account to log in across all your Google Apps, useful for logging into YouTube as well), it is still the best option to download the legitimate Apps through the Appstore, rather than sideloading them through Sideloadly, because sideloading Apps will not give you that cross-functionality for different apps, which is quite useful for the Vendura iOS YouTube workaround.
Step 5: Getting some Apps working again.
I'll provide the information I've gathered on how to sign in to Reddit and to get YouTube to work at all with workarounds. If the app you want to use isn't working after downloading it, go do a deepdive through this reddit to figure out what other people might already have tried and see if that works for you as well!
For this part of the tutorial I only know how to get these to work using the 1st & 2nd method of installing apps as shown in Step 4. These steps will not work the same way if you've sideloaded the apps instead.
  • Reddit - works as per May 2024
The Reddit fix will not work if you have Sideloaded the apps. I recommend sideloading the iOS 7.1 IPA of Reddit that you can download here (direct download link) instead for a functional Reddit app.
  1. You've downloaded the legitimate last compatible Reddit app from the App Store, but now you cannot log in to your account. You've also installed App Admin like I told you, because you're a good boi™.
  2. The last compatible version of Reddit has the softwareVersionExternalIdentifier 825257195. We go back to the App Store now and press and hold on the Reddit app in our Purchased tab to downgrade our Reddit app to 821375001.
  3. Now when we open this older version of Reddit, we can log in to our Reddit account(s) and then head back to the App Store to "downgrade" our Reddit App back to 825257195. When the update is done, you'll still be logged into your Reddit account(s). Happy scrolling!
  • YouTube using the Vendura iOS workaround
Okay, this is a bit of a long one. Because this tutorial is technically two-fold: 1. How to workaround logging in to your Google account on the YouTube App (and all the other Google Apps you wish to use) and 2. How to get a working YouTube App where you can actually play videos. Spoofing the last compatible version of YouTube to the most recent released YouTube version is not enough to play video's for us, sadly, so we have to either perform this workaround, or just content with the fact that we'll have to watch our video's through a browser like Puffin, Chrome, Firefox or god forbid (I might throw up a little 🤢) Safari. Which are all, to be fair, incredibly slow and annoying when trying to load YouTube pages.
This YouTube workaround will still work if you want to sideload YouTube, but you'll have to sideload the required version of YouTube (v10.11.11546) from the start and you will not be able to log in to your own account, but you'll still be able to search for video's and watch them. You can download the correct IPA here (direct download link).
  1. How to workaround logging in to your Google account on the YouTube App (and all the other Google Apps you wish to use) - works as per May 2024.
    1. Purchase the YouTube Kids app through iTunes 12.6.3 or a newer iDevice.
    2. Download the last compatible version of YouTube Kids on your iPad Mini.
    3. Log in to YouTube Kids with your Google account.
    4. Make up a fake kid to use the YouTube Kids account and finish your sign up for YouTube Kids.
    5. Open all the other Google apps you have installed and want to use and make sure they're logged in to your Google account now as well.
  2. How to get a working YouTube App where you can actually play videos using Vendura iOS.
Tips to know before following the tutorials for Vendura iOS: add your Google Drive account to Filza and upload the requirement files to your Google Drive for easy access on your iPad Mini.
You have to downgrade your YouTube app to 10.11.11546 with App Admin in the App Store FIRST. The softwareVersionExternalIdentifier for it is 812033351.
There are multiple tutorials on Reddit, GitHub and YouTube on how to install Vendura iOS. I will only post the links to those and you can read/watch and follow the tutorials on your own from there.
Good luck! This workaround works for me. I've used the API-key method and I recommend that version of Vendura iOS, but I'm sure the version without the API-key works just as well. Note: you still cannot click on the video's on the homepage or subscriber page directly, but you can use the Vendura iOS menu to find the video using the title and play it from there!

Appendix A: Last compatible version of Apps for iPad Mini on iOS 9.3.5

Note that these are only the apps that I've personally installed and use quite often.
If you want to know the last compatible version of a FREE app that's still on the App Store, so you can sideload it, let me know in the comments and I'll see if I can download it and give you the information you need!

2024.05.08 16:10 klara4k Best Way to Download from SoundCloud

If you've ever found yourself wondering about the best method to download from SoundCloud hassle-free, you're in the right place.

Pick the official route

SoundCloud itself offers an official method to download tracks, but not all artists enable this feature. If the artist permits downloads, you'll notice a download button beneath the track. Click it, and the track will be saved to your device for offline enjoyment. While this is straightforward and supports the creators directly, it's not always available for every track.

Third-party applications

Numerous third-party applications and websites offer SoundCloud downloading services. These platforms range from browser extensions to standalone software. One option we definitely recommend is 4K Video Downloader+ that can download videos from dozens of platforms as well as SoundCloud tracks and even playlists with ease.
  1. Download and install 4K Video Downloader+ for PC, macOS, or Linux.
  2. Open Smart Mode and set up the needed audio format and the quality.
  3. Go to SoundCloud.com and find the track you want to download.
Alternatively, you can do that without leaving the application in the in-app browser.
  1. Click on the name of the track you would like to download and copy its URL.
  2. Paste the link into the 4K Video Downloader+ main window.
  3. Done! Click "Show in folder" in order to find your audio file or Add to iTunes to export it on your Apple devices.
Tip: If you use 4K YouTube to MP3, our another audio-exclusive downloader, you can use it too for downloading tracks from SoundCloud.
Tip 2: Log in to your SoundCloud account in the built-in browser in 4K Video Downloader+.

Browser extensions

For those who prefer a simpler approach, browser extensions can be a better option. Extensions like "SoundCloud Downloader" for Chrome or Firefox allow you to download SoundCloud tracks directly from your browser. With just a click of a button, you can have your favorite tunes saved offline in no time. Remember to check user reviews and ratings to ensure the reliability and safety of the extension!

Online converters

Online converters are another handy option for downloading SoundCloud tracks. Websites like "SCDownloader" or "KlickAud" let you paste the URL of the SoundCloud track and convert it into a downloadable file format like MP3. While convenient, be cautious when using online converters, as some may bombard you with ads or compromise the audio quality during conversion.

Explore SoundCloud download gates

Some artists and producers offer their tracks for free download in exchange for a follow on SoundCloud, a repost, or even a simple email subscription. These download gates provide you with the desired track and support the artists by increasing their visibility and engagement on the platform. Keep an eye out for download gate links in the track description or artist's profile.

Mobile apps

If you're frequently on the go and prefer downloading SoundCloud tracks directly to your mobile device, mobile apps are what you might like. Apps like "SoundCloud Downloader" for Android allow you to save tracks offline and enjoy them anytime, anywhere. Just like with any third-party tool, ensure that you download from reputable sources to avoid potential security risks.
