Where can I access most car service information in one place?

2024.05.15 08:07 _noise-complaint Where can I access most car service information in one place?

I was wondering if there’s an app/website that can provide me with information for a car when I input rego number. I don’t have a trade account and I’m currently using Ryco filters app for details on oil/aicabin filter names, and Penrite GPC for oil names and quantity.
I know these are good apps but it would be nicer to have just one source with the most comprehensive information. Would be nice to not have to switch apps all the time.

2024.05.15 06:25 DDunn110 Older V strom problems or concerns?

Hey everyone!
I’m looking at getting an older v strom 2003 or 2007. Both bikes are roughly the same cost, same accessories and similar mileage. Although the 2003 has less miles, they are both first owner bikes and well cared for. That aside, couple of questions. Are the bikes worth it for 2300$? I’m just looking for an older bike to commute with and run around town, maybe do some 1-2 hour rides on highways but not much. Also, are there any known major problems with the bikes? I have read some stuff about stator problems and something with the front headlight? The bikes in question are 2003 / 2007 650 adventure version. I just want a bike that I can turn on and go, do light maintenance like oil changes, filter, coolant, break from time to time and just go. Any input would be greatly appreciated

2024.05.15 06:10 viagrawithlegs Finally, finally I’m better ? and it was not what anyone thought

TLDR; After trying EVERYTHING I reduced stimulants to promote rest and digest and reduced sugar to limit bacterial infections Would like honorary phd for this ten year $100k research project “Fine” now 🥹 ?
Full story: I have had eczema since 8 months old. Cats and dust allergy and sweat/heat induced. It was no biggie. An antihistamine and the occasional topical OTC steroid cream - easy peasy.
Fast forward, I’m 24. I started getting really hot and red in my face. Can’t tolerate heat at all. My eczema was flaring non stop like crazy. Had it in places I never had before, eye lids, neck. Couldn’t sleep I was so itchy. Had restless leg wtf could only sleep every second day
Saved up for an allergist and started doing desensitisation treatments, bactroban in the nose, and the nurse secretly told me I could take up to 6 antihistamine pd and switch between a few brands
My skin got so bad the doctor wouldn’t let me have the injections anymore Doctor offered me lyrica and prednisone. I was so far gone the prednisone did NOTHING . They literally told me “I can’t help you anymore please don’t come back”
My skin was now flaking bad, like I was turning into sand. Scratch , weep, scab, flake, repeat. Folliculitis all over my legs. I was itchy every waking hour. I slept in a bathtub for 6 weeks getting 1 hour sleep while working full time wearing cream and barrier cream under full body bandages. Found out about TSW and related
Ended up in hospital with a golf ball sized boil in my eyebrow. IV antibiotics cleared up the infection but still itchy. Was told it was the type of antibiotic they don’t give out unless you’re about to die .
Finally saved up and waited 3 months to see a dermatologist. She said option 1. Cancer drugs (assuming an immunosuppressant?) 2. Light therapy
I chose 2. Not sure what it did but I got a nice tan I also tried EVERYTHING short of sacrificing small animals and children during an eclipse . Spent $$$$ laser hair removal, chiro, naturopath , special elixirs, creamssss , dottera, hcl tablet, bleach then peroxide baths, condys crystals, iron, avene, acupuncture, fungicide, silk sheets, plain tooth paste, shower water filter , digestive enzymes, magnesium, tar, charcoal poultice, drink clay powder, activated grains, keffir , blood type diet, psychology, relaxation , Chinese herbs, vitamins, shaman ritual with eagle feather (not joking). Taking showers scared me because of the excruciating pain of open wounds everywhere. Tried swimming in the ocean. Felt like being set of fire but I was wrong. Had a bath with a bit of tea tree oil. Ah, NOW I know what it feels like to be set on fire (creepily got itching relief from the pain Ala black mirror).
Nothing working So I quit literally everything I ate except 30 INGREDIENTS (1 water, 2 salt , etc) on the combined advice of three eczema books Eczema slowly improving Reduced it further to having nothing but one fruit smoothie per day for SIX MONTHS “because fruit is healthy” (and eating one celery stick was too depressing ). Somehow lost no weight . Was getting better but still red and hands still looked like dinosaur skin. I
An energy healer told me it was fruit. lol. Stopped eating the smoothies and skin was better in 1 week. Redness/heat tolerance didn’t improve. Still have restless leg
Flakes and infections came back every year. Back in hospital with another golf ball boil when I’m 30. Goes away Flares again a year later
Had emotional crisis and got Valium from doctor . Magically healed! Stop Valium (not a fan) Heat intolerance recurs. Frequent flare up Try medical cannabis . Fine for a while then I adapted again like the Borg
This year (I’m 34, with 1 year of a biomed degree under my belt) I hear about anticholinergic syndrome and relate. I quit drinking tea and coffee (rip ☠️ switched to chicory root) or taking antihistamines.
Redness going away Heat tolerance improving Eczema disappeared Been healthy??? for 6 weeks Wish me luck 🍀
Sorry this post is so long , tried to condense a 10 year journey of misery as short as possible. hope this helps someone

2024.05.15 06:04 SnooCats6999 Tick tick tick

Tick tick tick
Hey everyone! I picked up my Last Call Charger about a month ago, I previously had a 22’ T that I put about 32,000 miles on, so I’m somewhat familiar with these cars.
My new baby is currently sitting at 1,600 miles...however, I’m noticing there is a louder ticking sound developing that, to me, sounds a little more unusual than the HEMI tick I had on my 5.7, which I had checked multiple times and everything came back fine. I had just accepted it as a characteristic of the V8’s in these beautiful cars.
I just wanted to throw it out there and check - does this tick sound too loud for a 6.4? I’ve babied the car all through the break in period, had an oil and filter change done already. Only put Shell or Chevron Premium.
Thanks for any input! Much appreciate it! 🐝

2024.05.15 06:02 ejrole8 Bone-in Skin-on Chicken thighs are great on a budget for more than just meat!

Making this post because I had a less-than resouceful friend buy herself the boneless, skinless chicken thighs for way more than she should’ve. These tips also work for different cuts of chicken with skin and bones (though with drumsticks I usually just cook them in soup as-is).
Yes, the ones with skin on and bones included are cheaper by weight than the alternative, but if you’ve been just throwing the skin and bones away, stop! I have some budget friendly tips for you.
1) Collect the skin and bones and put them in separate gallon-sized freezer bags. You will be adding to them as you get more chicken. For the skin, keep adding chicken skins and fat to them. For the bag with the bones, you will also want to add veggie scraps such as the skins of onions, garlic, carrots, ginger, and celery. There are others you can add, but if you aren’t familiar with cooking times and qualities of vegetables yet, I’d try to just stick with those. Again, it’s better to use organic veggies or ones sourced from someone you know uses less pesticides when growing as you’re using the skins for this.
2) when you have a good amount of skins(like 3/4lbs or more), make shmaltz (rendered chicken fat). It’s basically the Jewish alternative to lard and tallow. It’s healthier than most cooking oils aside from avocado, olive, and coconut. It has a high smoke point so you can use it to fry, roast, bake, or whatever it is you do with your cooking oils. Because it is animal based, the chemical structure is easier to digest. You might want to steer clear if you have heart problems, though. I used a recipe from Serious Eats which goes like this:
3) When you eventually collect enough bones and scraps to fill the ziplock bag, you can make bone broth (or stock, for the anti-hippies). I sometimes add pork bones if I get any with my meat. I make mine in an instant pot so I’m going to use that recipe.
Bone broth(stock) is really good for your bones and adds a really nice flavor to whatever you use it for. Consider using it instead of store-bought stock or Better than Bouillon. You can use it for a healthy egg-drop soup. Supposedly some people use it in smoothies, but personally that’s not for me!
I like to get the crunchier packs of chicken when I can afford to (think free-range, organic, locally sourced), and if you have the means to, you should too since you can utilize all parts of the cut.

Help with engine problem
As you can see in the above photo I have snapped a bolt housing off my engine. Long story short on the back story is the bolt was leaking oil so went to tighten it to no more than 15ftp and the housing snapped off. Yes I’m an idiot. It’s for a 2009 Suzuki gladius. Not sure what part I need as it doesn’t have an oil pan and not sure what it actually connects to all I know is it started leaking oil when it snapped off. Would anyone be able to help me out on what I can do to fix this or am I better off just getting a new engine thanks for any advice. Placement is on the left side just behind the oil filter near the drain plug.

Picked this up for my bf ☀️
Had a bit of a fluttery idle and stalling, so I stripped it down, inline filter clogged, crack in spark plug cover was causing issues and moisture (common problem as my other sxf had the same issue), and fuel was old as hadn’t been ridden for 8 months. Deep cleaned it, Sprayed with innox & changed spark plug, fresh inline filter, drained and replaced fuel, oil, oil filter, fresh air filter and ran through with injector cleaner 👌🏽put 2 hours on and it ran perfect. Pretty happy to get away with it so cheap and it wasn’t anything major wrong. Is anyone else running talon carbons/A60’s? Ngl i’m so tempted to switch them onto one of my bikes they’re so damn nice 💯

2024.05.15 04:39 Borg34572 Bizarre thing happening to my truck. Any ideas are welcome.

So basically this weird thing just started happening to my truck where the engine would start to run rough ONLY when I'm about to park in parking lots.
It sounds rough like it's about to stall but It never actually does. It's so rough it shakes the entire truck. But I let it sit there one time running rough, not putting any pressure on the accelerator as well and after a minute or two idling rough, it just suddenly smooths out and everything is fine again . It almost sounds like it stalled because the engine suddenly goes back to normal operation which is much quieter compared to whatever the hell it's doing but nope it just kind of fixes itself.
It's just strange to me that it only happens in parking lots during low RPM. But why only parking lots ? Everytime I drive it there is no loss of power, it sounds like a beast and even slowing down to stops in low RPM it never happens, it's smooth as hell. Literally only occurs in parking lots !! It's so bizarre and I'm scratching my head here.
I looked online and there's a ton of advice for the 5.4 triton. I'm aware it has a lot of issues but everything people suggest to change has already been changed. All the timing parts are new from last year. Spark plugs , VCT , cam phasers you name it.
I came across a thread suggesting that it might be low charge from the battery during low RPM causing all sorts of instruments/sensors to not function properly. And I am actually getting a code for both camshaft position sensors. But it only pops up sometimes.
So I decided to give my battery a check and man both terminals were caked in corrosion and green battery acid shit. So I cleaned it all up, sanded the terminals and applied dielectric grease. Did the whole idle relearn after that and so far I have not been able to replicate the problem in parking lots. It seems smoother. Fingers crossed that actually fixed it.
But if it does return. Any ideas on what could be the problem ? My mechanic says it's just the camshaft sensor need replacing so that's my next thing to try I guess.
P.S I was also advised to put in thicker oil next oil change (5W30) and to only use MotoRcraft filters. So I'll try that as well.

2024.05.15 04:28 Proud_Tailor_8469 Please help!!!!! (Australia)

Hi everyone, I could really use some help right now. I drive a ford kuga 2014 diesel and about a month ago the check engine light came on. I took it to the ford dealership and they ran a full diagnostic and quoted the following:
Checked DPF vaporizer pump and injector operation, Not enough fuel supplied to DPF Requires new vaporizer pump and injector, oil & oil filter change and DPF regen burn off. Estimated completion end of next week 17/05. Total: $1777.83 I consented and they did the repair
I picked it up a week later and they assured me it was good to go. I drove it 10 mins down the road and the car jolted and broke down entirely. I had to get it towed (at my own expense) back to ford. They told me they would cover the cost of repairs. 2 days later they called and told me they have to “replace the DPF filter entirely” and it would cost me another $1000 Can someone please help because I feel like I’m being majorly ripped off?
TIA!

2024.05.15 03:58 JanMikal Repair and Enhancement

Couple questions from the sub, if I may? I understand mechanical matter in an abstract, mental way, but I'm not much of a mechanic , overall. So, please keep that in mind with your answers.
  1. My bike (a 4 or 5 year old 49cc Icebear, approx 2k mi., not exactly sure what specific model, maybe a Rocket) is experiencing power-loss. I'll give it full throttle, and it just sort of...thinks about it for a moment before getting underway with any oomph It has an enhanced carb (bigger spray-nozzles, but I don't know the details) and I just put a new fuel filter on it. It was going really well for a while, and it seems to get its power back after he sits for a bit, but once he gets warmed up and going, the power just trails off. Any ideas where to start from here, keeping in mind what i said above? He does need an oil change, and I intend on doing that very soon.
  2. Also keeping in mine my starting caveat, how can I boost him a little? I'm not looking for 60mph speeds, but I'd like to be able to keep up with traffic in a 40mph uphill zone. I've heard things like getting a better battery, removing the speed restrictor (?) and a few other things. Also, how can I upgrade him a bit to make him easier to control and ride at the slightly higher speeds?
Feel free to DM me with the advice and suggestions. Thank you all ahead of time for any help you can offer. I do have a mechanic who has worked on my bike before, but I'd rather not pay $75/hour shop labor if it's something I can easily do on my own.

2024.05.15 03:56 Beautiful_Brilliant6 Hybrid civic or normal

I am a student looking for a good fuel efficient car that won’t cause trouble. Normal civic vs hybrid civic on my area these both are priced somewhat same i need the car that will go 60 miles every day and last for 4-6 years of normal i can buy a manual and i know it will last i wouldn’t say we have too much traffic depends on time i guess and hybrids start from 2015 not sure about the hybrid battery it costs a lot to replace id rather replace burned clutch from other cars there is ‘07-‘10 hybrid camry. Why im considering civic is because we have some things like brake pads and oil filters or other stuff from our old civic that we didn’t use.

2024.05.15 03:35 Python_Child Honda lawnmower won’t start after I replaced the transmission belt. Barely can pull half the time. White smoke comes out of exhaust and filter when cranking. Is it because of oil going to the cylinder? Air filter seems to be covered in oil. If so, what do I do to clear it up. Much appreciated

2024.05.15 03:33 CapableIncome9901 New Honda owner in need of tips

I recently bought a ‘95 Honda Accord LX and I’d like to bring it back to 100 HP before I put too many miles on it. It has never been in an accident, and it has the original motor and transmission with only 110,000 miles. It drives great in the city and on the highway, but it sometimes struggles to start in the mornings, and it’s breaks are just a little squeaky. I’m sure that changing the oil, oil filter, air filter, and the spark plugs would all be a good idea, but other than that I’m not sure what else I could do to make sure that the car is 100% in good working order. After that, I’d like to make it faster, but I have not a clue how to start doing that. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

2024.05.15 03:04 gostros995 FCP Euro

Need to do an oil change on my ‘14 Passat. Had it done last at a Take 5 place maybe 3000 miles ago and I’m pretty sure they just put some general “European spec” oil in it. Meaning it isn’t the VW 507.00 spec stuff that I need. I found the right stuff on FCP Euro after reading some comments here that they are a reputable company. I have also seen people say that you get a lifetime warranty on oil from them, and apparently you send your old oil and filter back and they will credit your account. Is that legit? How do you send your oil back? Just wondering how that works, or if there is something I’m missing. Seems too good to be true.

2024.05.15 03:02 03201995 Need new MKV engine

Long story short
My engine blew in November 2023 from an aftermarket oil filter and gasket not being being installed properly from the dealership I purchased the car back in July 2023. Toyota denied covering it because it had an aftermarket oil filter and gasket installed and the dealership I purchased the car from told me that my warranty expired already so there nothing they could do.
I told Toyota I had no knowledge of the aftermarket oil filter and gasket and the dealership also had no idea about the aftermarket oil filter and gasket.
My oil pan had to be replace in July 2023 due to an irreparable oil leak and I had to pay out of pocket for it. I assumed the mechanic who performed the oil change last had no fucking idea what he or she was doing.
Before anyone comment, I could not see the oil coming out of my car because it was night time. The built in alert of "low oil pressure" came on as soon as the car died while I pulled to the side of the road.
My lawyer said he couldn't do anything because there's no concrete evidence to support my claim, plus it's out of his jurisdiction since I ordered the car out of state.
Anyways I need a new B58 engine. Anyone know where I can salvage one from a reputable company? Only options I'm seeing is used ones from ebay.
My car was purchased at 2.4k miles and my engine died at 6k miles. I have been fighting my case with no luck for the past 7 months.
Toyota wants 16k for a new engine + 7k for installation fee

2024.05.15 03:00 abide5lo Dealer charged for TCM software update

Had my 2020 in for spring maintenance: oil change and filter, state inspection, alignment check, tire balancing. All good. I also asked them to check, per GM recommendation, that the transmission control module is running the latest software and update it if necessary They did, saw that the TCM was not running the latest version , so they updated the software.
1) why doesn’t this software update automatically over the air?
2) dealer charged me 1 hour labor for the update. Shouldn’t that be on GM’s nickel?

2024.05.15 02:30 greentrailsonly How bad is this?

How bad is this?
I’ve gone about 3500 miles on my Norden 901 since I got it new. Been checking behind the filter and clearing debris, but never checked in the filter fins until today and found all the shit.
Clean side of the filter and airbox don’t look like they have any dust or pollen collecting, but a little bit of oil pooled up and splashed on the bottom edge of the filter. Do I have a reason to feel dumb for not changing the filter earlier, or is this 100% fine?

91 to 97 swap, having trouble getting oil into the head.
As the title states, I got pretty far into my 1.6 to 1.8 swap however I have run into a big problem. There seems to be no oil getting into the head of the engine, cams, etc. The pump and filter are working fine and seem to have pressure. Only thing I can think of is taking off the head and looking at the head gasket, but I really would rather not. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening? Of course, I should’ve done this before hauling out the engine but now i’m pretty deep into the swap. Let me know if you have any suggestions please, thank you!

At first I thought it was the pan or oil filter leaking then after getting under the car with a light I found a leak at the back/right side of the engine. A friend is pretty sure it's the rear valve cover gasket.
I can't tell myself but by the video below does it look like the valve gasket and not the head gasket?
