Just some basic facts to review! GOOD LUCK!
· Peroxisomes contain H2O2, and breaks down very long fatty acids via Beta Oxidation.
· Microfilaments used in cytokinesis and Microtubules are used in pulling sister chromatids apart (anaphase).
· Prokaryotes (50S +30S) & Eukaryotes (60S +40S)
· Lytic Cycle involves cell lysis whereas lysogenic cycle involves integration into the genome.
· Meiosis I = Reductional Divison (2nn) Meiosis II = Equational Division (nn)
· Crossing over takes place in Prophase I whereas Disjunction (or non-disjunction in abnormal cases) takes place in Anaphase I.
· Primary oocytes are arrested in Prophase I and after menarche, divide into secondary oocyte which is arrested in metaphase II till fertilization.
· Interstitial (or leydig cells) produce testosterone vs Follicles produce estrogen.
· Acrosome reaction helps in the degradation of the zona pellucida whereas cortical reaction helps to prevent polyspermy by increasing intracellular Ca2+ concentration.
· Interneurons are present in polysynaptic relflexes and NOT in monosynaptic reflexes.
· Bronchioles relax and pupils dilate in sympathetic NS whereas bronchioles and pupils constrict in parasympathetic NS.
· Peptide hormones do not need carriers to travel in the blood stream, whereas Steroid hormones do need carriers to travel in the blood stream.
· FSH causes maturation of sperm in males whereas stimulates formation of follicles in females.
· LH causes interstitial cells to secrete testosterone in males whereas it causes ovulation in women.
· Aldosterone (mineralocorticoid) does not change plasma osmolarity and is secretded when blood pressure/volume is low whereas ADH (or vasopressin) decreases plasma osmolarity and is secreted when blood plasma osmolarity is high. Also, ANP is antagonistic to Aldosterone because it promotes excretion of Na+ and water follows.
· Ghrelin (hunger hormone) and Leptin secreted by adipose cells (satiety hormone)
· AA hormones: T3 & T4, NE, Epinephrine
· Steroid hormones: Cortisol, Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone, Aldosterone`
· Tidal volume is the volume of air in a normal breath whereas Vital capacity is the diff between (Total Lung Capacity-Residual Volume)
· Muscles used in inhalation are external intercostals, whereas during forced exhalation, muscles used are internal intercostals.
· In acidemia, need to hyperventilate to eliminate CO2
· In alkaelemia, need to hypoventilate to lower the elimination of CO2 to increase H+
· Arteries are thicker walled than Veins.
· Parietal cells secrete HCl and intrinsic factor. Gastrin is secreted by G cells of pyloric glands which stimulate parietal cells.
· CCK stimulates bile and pancreatic juices.
· Fat soluble vitamins: ADEK, Water soluble: B & C
· Descending loop of Henle: only water goes out, Ascending loop: only salts go out
· Gap junctions are present in both cardiac and smooth muscles but not skeletal.
· Ca2+ binds to troponin. ATP binds to myosin heads to detach it from actin.
· Penetrance is the proportion of population with a given phenotype who actually express the phenotype whereas expressivity is the different manifestations of the same genotype across the population.
· Genetic leakage is when individuals from a differnet but closely related species can mate to produce a hybrid offspring and therefore flow of genes occur between two species.
· Bottleneck effect: natural disaster, Founder Effect: a number of individuals of a population separate to form a new colony. Both these effects cause genetic drift in small populations.
· Eosinophils: parasitic infections, Basophils: allergies (histamine)
. Neutrophils (most abundant) & Basophils (least abundant)
· CD4+: MHC II, CD8+: MHC I, CD4: Supressor cells (autoimmune disorders)
· Gap junctions allow ions etc to pass through, desmosomes are used to anchor things together, tight junctions are used to prevent things to pass through. · Heisenberg: momentum & position, Hund’s rule: all orbitals should have at least 1 e, Pauli’s exclusion: opposite spin in paired electrons.
· DNA polymerase only adds nucleotides in the 5’ to 3’ direction.

Anyone have recommendations on how to fix my skin? I’ve been taking very good care of my skin since September and have made no progress
I will look in my mirror at my house and like the way I look, then I step outside or look in a different mirror and you can see everyone of my flaws. What can I do about this? I have a bunch of little bumps on my forehead, chronic eczema under my eyes and on nose. Just a bad skin texture, purple under eyes, uneven skin tone, I was using retinol and vitamin c for about 6 mounths but saw no progress and gave up.

2024.05.16 01:49 Lanky-Entrepreneur60 Projectile vomitting

Opinions wanted.. I just went out to eat with my family and we had some chicken parm & spaghetti. I haven’t had spaghetti in a while but I decided to get it and ate some ice cream on the way home because the food honestly wasn’t that great and I didn’t eat much. I come home, do a few things feeling completely normal (just very full) and I go to take my medications (sitting on my bed) with some power c vitamin water (not refrigerated but opened before) and the second I stood up from my bed I almost projectile vomitted out of my nose and throat. A rush of acid came up. I’ve never experienced this before. Now it feels like there’s a big glob in my throat and it won’t go away.. the burning in my throat and nose was also insane. Hurt a lot…
Took some antacid chews and a med.

2024.05.16 01:42 Outrageous-War-8932 High Dose Vitamin C IV

High Dose Vitamin C IV
Hi, I want to let you all know that my mom is classified as a hospice patient with Ovarian Cancer. She had surgery and that gave her around 8 months of relatively healthy life until it came back. She refused chemo and radiation because of her weakened condition and age (83). I got her to start doing high dose vitamin C IVs at a place called Drip Bar in Minneapolis. They initially had to come to her house to do administer the IVs for a couple weeks because she couldn’t get out of bed. She was full body cramping, throwing up all night, sleeping all day. Approximately, 3 weeks into treatments she started feeling better. Eventually she got back into riding horses and now she’s very energetic, no problems except she still drains the ascities every couple months. It used to be 2x per week. They had given her 1-3 months. In the condition she was in it would have been a very bad month if she made it that long. That was a year ago.
I just found that article directly from the National Institute of Health website that literally says Ivermectin suppresses Ovarian Cancer. I sent it to her doctor. We’ll see what they say. She’s a hospice patient still, so not sure if they’ll prescribe something other than morphine.
It’s a miraculous story and I thought I would share it with this forum.

2024.05.16 01:39 Prestigious_Cr0w Should I be worried about cancer? 2 years of utter hell

30 years old/ female/ Amitryptyline medication/ not overweight, don’t smoke or drink
Timeline:
All testing except an initial calprotectin of 600 was normal: (colonoscopy {adenoma removed}, gastroscopy {gastritis}, mri small bowel) came back fine and were done in late 2022/early 2023. Had 4-5 calprotectins done since, all <60.
Mid 2023-now - Gut symptoms are worse, extreme excess gas, mucus and painful cramping that came every week or so followed by extreme diarrhoea episodes for 1-3 days.
Late 2023: - Started getting rashes on my chest, looked a bit like eczema and were mildly itchy. Eventually resolved.
2024: - Started getting recurring staph skin infections/boils
Other info: - Celiac test negative - I have Lindsay’s nails - H pylori negative - Normal protein electrophoresis - Normal abdominal ultrasound done 6 months ago - Normal blood work throughout the two years with one exception:
Previous bloodwork showing some abnormalities:

A following protein electrophoresis was normal, the same bloods were repeated a week later and were back to normal:

I’m petrified this is some plasma disorder - lymphoma, leukaemia…
The other part of me wonders if this is some auto immune process but I’m really worried this is cancer and the anxiety is eating me alive. Would love any opinions or advice please! Thank you

2024.05.16 01:15 AwkwardEsme Is anyone else scared to try or put things on their face after having PD?

Is anyone else scared to try or put things on their face after having PD?
So I’m 32F and I was diagnosed with PD in the end of March and was give doxycycline and it cleared it up. Was recommended cetaphil cleanser, a moisturizer and spf. Told me to keep it simple and the less ingredients the better and to patch test on inner arm or elbow.
Before the first visit I used a lot of Korean skincare and I admit I was buy and trying a lot of things which I think brought on the PD I jumped into the TikTok trend of Korean skincare ( not saying it isn’t good, I think it is) and it may of caused this PD by using to many products. My dermatologist also looked at all the ingredients of the Korean products and told me they all have this one ingredient that most Americans are allergic to ( I can’t remember which ingredient) so I am scared to try those again and probably will stay away.
I went back for a check up on May 9th and my dermatologist said it looked good and was cleared up. But also mentioned that PD could be a one time thing and it doesn’t come back OR it can have flare ups to which he said I have doxy refills for those and gave me some metrogel(?) to mix a little hydrocortisone with for the redness.
I asked about la roche posay and he said it a good brand for sensitive skin and to read and research their blogs on the site. And I asked what the best brand for PD and he told me there isn’t really the “best brand” for example neutrogena use to be a really good brand but they change formula and that happens with brands. It just depends on an individual person because what works for one maybe doesn’t work for another. But he said also to just keep skincare to a minimum that I don’t need toners or serums
That it’s best to do a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.
But since this happen I don’t wash my face as much and I’m scared to try things in fear my PD will come back..
And I wanna restore my skin barrier but I heard retinol and vitamin c can trigger PD
So I’m doing cetaphil and I like it but my skin still feels dry and rough (not scaly rough) just not smooth and it looks dull.. and I just don’t know how to fix my skin barrier and so that my face feels smooth and soft and not look dehydrated and dull..
Anyone else scared to try or put things on their face after the PD cleared up?

2024.05.16 00:27 eveedrainn Need advice with my current skincare routine

I have dry, sensitive acne prone skin. I recently turned 30 and really wanted to start getting into skincare and taking care of my problems with my skin finally. I did a lot of research and bought some products with my needs in mind(acne breakouts,redness,texture,anti-aging, dryness), this is my current routine:
AM: Wash off face with water or Cetaphil gentle cleaser, Naturium Vitamin C serum, Round Lab Birch suncreen
PM: Remove makeup with Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil, La Roche-Posay AP+ Gentle Foaming Moisturizing Wash, CeraVe resurfacing Retinol, ROC retinol eye cream, La Roche-Posay Double Repair Moisturizer with Niacinamide.
I use L'Oreal Paris Revitalift 10% Pure Glycolic Acid once a week on days I'm not using retinol or Benzoyl, and also PanOxyl 10% Benzoyl Peroxide once a week, on days I am not using retinol or AHA.
I've been doing this consistent routine for the past month and a half, and I have not seen really any results at all. If anything, my skin feels more dry and irritated. I am still getting breakouts, and I see no change in texture or brightness in my skin. What am I doing wrong?! I am thinking of switching out the Naturium for a gentler Vit C, and I read it can irritate sensitive skin. Any advice is much appreciated <3

30f, Been using men’s rogaine for a year and a few months now, some pics below but still not feeling like I’ve made much progress.
The derm had told me to use men’s 5% rogaine and a prenatal vitamin…. So I’ve been doing that a little over a year now and while I see some progress, it’s not drastic. I’m hoping this is normal, as I’m now taking iron, vitamin d, vitamin c, zinc, magnesium, the prenatal vitamin, collagen peptide powder…. And my gyno has me on tranexamic 5 days during my menstrual cycle to help with excessive bleeding and essentially help with losing iron/hairloss. My derm told me at my last appointment in March of this year that I’m pretty much on the right track and if I wanted to stop using the rogaine until I notice my telogen effluvium “acting up” again basically, I could. I’m just nervous because I’m not seeing a giant difference. But maybe it’s because I look at myself everyday.
March 2nd 2023- before I started anything, hair care included.
October 28th 2023 - one month of rogaine
By January of 2024 I’ve started using hair masks once a week, not washing my hair every day to try and regain moisture.
I guess I’m really nervous to stop using rogaine but also wondering if maybe I should reach out to the derm after they had said if I don’t think I’m where I want to be they can help me discuss further options.

Turned 28 and my skin gave up on me- any similar experiences or recommendations?
Background- 28F with history of acne (accutane in 2019),excessive sun exposure as a child, a sleep deficit, + chronic illness that causes stress.
You couldn’t tell that I was aging until this year. One day I woke up and noticed my face was more hollow, fine lines had come to stay (forehead, 11s, smile line, lips). I have the faintest start of jowls. Im freaking out because this feels like the tip of the iceberg.
Part of me wonders if my face is reacting to a tough year (bad sleep habits, 3 surgeries (one facial and I am still experiencing some swelling), extensive travel). The other part fears rapid decline in my face and confidence. Is this normal at 28? Did anyone else feel this way?
I’ve taken some action so far. Red light mask, botox (DOA, forehead, 11s), tretinoin, vitamin c, hydrating skin care, drinking collagen, Dennis gross peels weekly, SPF 50 daily. Anything else I should be doing? Am I going to wild already? I’d love to know what has worked for you.
Note that photos are after my intervention

2024.05.15 23:36 Wooden_Usual_8247 My journey so far and tips for loose skin.

Hello! Want to share my little journey 🙂 7 months PO gastric sleeve, 24 years, 6’1’’, -129lbs so far lost.
Start weight: 339lbs Now: 210lbs Goal: 175lbs I don’t have any loose skin yet and hair falling stopped at 6 months. I wanted to share some of the things I did that I think it helped me with the skin and keep loosing a lot of weight constantly.
  1. Gym. I started strenght training after 4mo of surgery (so 3mo ago). I have my workouts scheduled for the whole week (e.g MONDAY GLUTES AND LEGS, THURSDAY ABS AND CORE etc). I make sure to add +5kg every week, basically doing progressive overload. Started with 5kg, now at 50kg.
  2. 10k steps minimum daily. Sometimes it’s 13k, sometimes 15k, during weekends can be 18-20k a day.
  3. Pilates 3x a week in the ABS&CORE day. So after the abs workout (which is usually 30mins) I will do a Pilates (youtube) 30mins session.
  4. 2L water every day minimum. Sometimes it goes to 2.5-3L (0.7 gallons)
  5. Protein intake. I try to hit at least 110-120g proteins every day from protein shakes (2-3cups) and other high protein meals.
  6. Collagen supplements every day (it’s a liquid one that I take and it helped me a lot with hair loss).
  7. Body creams, lotions and oils every day, 2x times a day. Once in the morning, once in the night before bed. I use body creams and lotions with retinol, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. I also use some oils for stretch marks (so far no progress at all). I also use a cream for the surgery scars that was given to me from the hospital.
  8. 1200-1500 max calories every day.
  9. Massage 3x a week on the body parts where the loose skin could be (inner thights, arms and abdomen area) with lotion/oils.
  10. Shower gel with collagen for more, more extra collagen.
I hope some of this might help someone! Just wanted to share what I did, now I know after I hit my goal I will definitely have some loose skin because it’s a ton of weight loss, but I think age, genetics and such play a big role too. But I also think that with lifting weights and a lot of sport you can definitely prevent some of the loose skin, since I’ve experienced it on my body -and still experiencing it-.

2024.05.15 23:28 Massive_Translator71 Kurze, stechende Nervenschmerzen: Was könnte die Ursache sein?

Hallo zusammen,

Mira and Progesterone Supplements
First, I know I test too often and next month I plan on cutting waaaaaaay back. This is my 2nd full cycle following a MMC at 9 weeks so some of it is testing anxiety. Just wondering if anyone else uses progesterone suppositories and tests with Mira. I'm surprised to see my estrogen this level at 4DPO. I am taking the 2x a day (morning and night). I'm also wondering if maybe this is just the additional vitamins I added to extend my luteal phase as it's between 8-9 days. I'm taking 50 mg B-6, 1000 mg Vitamin C, and 50 mcg B-12. Now I wish I'd held of on doing progesterone this cycle (Dr left the choice up to me) so I could tell which was making the difference.

2024.05.15 22:47 allmidwest3 Where should I add glycolic acid?

I recently started taking better care of my skin by adding a few additional steps beyond wash and moisturize. My combo/oily skin often looked dull and I had some acne scarring and frown lines to address. In addition, I do still get hormonal acne around my mouth and chin occasionally. After doing some research, I created the following routine:
Morning: CeraVe face wash for oily skin, Dime vitamin c serum, dime eye cream, and CeraVe moisturizer
Night: CeraVe face wash for dry skin, CeraVe peptide night cream, acne spot treatment/pimple patches as needed, exfoliate with a glove 2x a week
My skin looks better already but I don’t think any of these are addressing another issue I have which is textured skin. I read that glycolic acid is good for addressing that, and I saw a few toners that has that as an active, which I think would be a good addition to my routine. However, I also read not to mix glycolic acid with vitamin c (in my morning routine) or peptides (in my morning eye cream and my nighttime moisturizer). I’ve also heard glycolic acid can make your skin extra sensitive to sun (I wear a tinted sunscreen) so you should avoid it in the morning? Also- I know this is a chemical exfoliant to I would stop using a physical exfoliant if I added this to my routine.
Has anyone had a similar issue trying to fit glycolic acid into their routine? Any help would be appreciated!

2024.05.15 22:45 Danielles782 Please help my daughter

15 year old daughter - 41kg weight - 5ft Can someone please help us! I’m pulling my hair out with the hospital & my daughter is getting severely frustrated - this is going to be a long post so please bear with me.
Late 2019 my daughter was complaining of night time leg pain for months she was sent home 5 times from a&e who suggested the pain was growing pains. This pain also happened in the day which led to her limping for a while I put my foot down in Feb 2020 and took her to the closest children’s hospital she had various tests and it was found that part of her femur bone was missing - she had a biopsy in March 2020 which grew staph aureus - she had osteomyelitis on her femur bone. She had antibiotics with a months break until October 2021 where it was confirmed she still had the infection so she was scheduled in for surgery in December 2021 where a part of her femur bone was removed and a rod and pins where placed inside to hold the remaining bone in place All the time this was happening her infection / inflammatory makers where normal she never had a temperature. She had a further 4 surgeries after this the last one being June 2023 where the last 2 pins where removed she now no longer has any metal work inside. Since this last operation she has come up in a rash all over both legs - no where else on her body, they are always under the skin but when she flares they are on the surface. She’s had a x3 stress fractures on her tibia bone unexplained. Constant tummy pains (they have also found an ovarian cyst which has gotten bigger after the 3 month wait - now 4.7cm) the areas around both her knees keep swelling the last flare she had it looked like she had a bone sticking out the side of her knee. She’s had a full body MRI scan and lots and lots of bloods done, an ultrasound scan on both knees. Bloods show low vitamin D, folic acid and iron which she’s taking supplements for. Ultrasound showed a small amount of fluid in her suprapatellar pouch. The hospital have no idea what’s going on with her. They don’t think it’s CRMO or HSP. I’m at a loss she’s missed nearly every year at school because of all the medical stuff and she’s due to start year 11 in September and I’m worried. I can attach photos if needed.
If anyone could potentially help with any advice at all I would really appreciate it. It’s getting us all down now and I really need to help my baby girl.

2024.05.15 22:16 Tough_Department1019 AIS and CIN3 successfully removed! What to do so it won't repeat?

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share my experience, ask for some advice on how you managed it or to share your experience about your life after diagnosis 😊
I had a CKC almost a month ago because of AIS and CIN3. It was successful - clear margins, all the pre-cancer was removed 🥳
Before the CKC i didn't even want to read too much about all that because I felt like doctors are managing it and all will be solved, I tried to stay positive and i managed pretty well i think. And im so happy that the CKC was successful.
Then i started reading about the AIS more and all the stress of the situation got to me apparently and now im worrying that I'll need to have my uterus removed before i manage to have kids 🙈 I'm 31 and single.
I started bleeding the 16th day after CKC, but it was solved fast 🙏 When i was leaving a doctor there said that i should hurry with having kids. She even tried giving me some dating advice where to meet serious men 🙈😅
Im trying to do all the things i read about so far: stopped smoking 6 months ago already, i dont drink alcohol, excercise 3-4 times a week (mostly jogging), and im trying to eat lots of vegetables and fruits everyday, while also taking multivitamins, extra vitamin C and D, and probiotics. The biggest issue is for me to manage stress from my job - which also causes me to have poor sleep. I wake up after 5-6h exhausted and my brain goes into overdrive. Also my social life is not great at the moment and i feel i don't really have people around me who were able to support me during this time, and i feel like i'm very much alone in it. I was very disapointed by how some people i consider close friends (my sister included) reacted when i told them - like they just don't want to have anything to do with it, and i should just act like everything is normal. I dont think my life will be exactly the same after this tought.
I was even think of starting antidepressants at least for next 6 months to sleep and feel better, and not worry so much, untill hopefuly HPV clears.
How did your view of life change after diagnosis?
What are the chances of AIS reoccuring in the next 5 years? Did any of you have kids 5 years after first diagnosis of AIS? Did you manage to clear your HPV (i have HPV-16) and how did you do it?
Sorry that this post is all over the place (so is my head). Also im not a native speaker, if anything is written in a weird way. Thank you to anyone who reads and for any replies and experiences you are willing to share 🤗

2024.05.15 22:07 musty_doll [routine help] can i mix glycolic acid toner with vitamin c serum?

Hi! I have really oily skin, at night i use salicylic acid and niacynamide peeling, in the morning i use green cerave face wash, glycolic acid hydrating toner, vitamine c hydrating serum and sunscreen that also has vit c added in it. Can i use the glycolic acid toner and all the vitamine c products together? Or should i stop using toner? I haven't really noticed any skin irritation but i'm scared that products may not work because i heard they shouldn't be mixed. Should I change anything?
