2024.06.09 20:16 GrappleAB Buzzing and heat from breaker panel when charging

Hi guys,
I’ve had my ‘23 premium awd standard range for about 5 months now and I’ve recently noticed that when charging, my breaker is buzzing and gets quite hot (only noticed now as I had a tripped breaker (not related) and happened to go down during a charge).
I’ve seen on forums that buzzing can be normal but the buzzing is fairly noticeable and the breaker does get quite hot. Electricians have installed many chargers to date and have not seen this.
I’ve been charging at 40amps on a 50amp breaker. I’ve had an electrician come in to check a few times and have not been using the charger since discovered (using public charging). I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? Starting to wonder if it’s the car. See below for scenarios tested:
I’m calling the electrician back tomorrow to let them know that it still happens at a friends house but wanted to see if anyone has experienced this ?
Thank you all!

2024.06.09 20:13 1nOnlylexcee AITA or bad neighbor?

So I’ve lived in this new place almost a year and I keep to myself. I don’t bother my neighbors. I don’t let anyone in my household bother anyone around me because that’s how I was raised.(I was raised to be a little more neighborly and speak but I just choose not to talk to people cause I just do)
It seems everywhere I live out here I never get the same respect. I’m always bombarded with other people’s noise, trash, animals, filth, guests, fighting for parking. I don’t have many visitors so people who live around me will park in front of my home because I guess it’s empty. Cool it’s public I’ve learn to cope with that and elevate my life if I want better so that’s my goal.
But in the meantime I live here. And there is so many stray animals and the people across the streets dog gets out from time to time and will come take a big old hot pop in my yard if I don’t scare it away fast enough. They also have someone who lives there who parks in front of my house a lot. Like they live here. Because they have a small home and four vehicles over there and not enough room.
So they tell themselves let’s spread out over to her side so now they are parking on my side. Cool. It annoys the hell outta me but again public street. The car and truck alternate but what upsets me is no one lives next door to me so I don’t understand why they don’t pull up a little more and park in front of the vacant house, or hell in front of their neighbors’s house right? I digress.
So then they started putting their bin in front of my home. The first one I didn’t know who it was. I didn’t set my bin out that week but stopped by and some random bin was sitting in front of my mail box it had been collected and some branches spilled out. They were home all day. Someone was. And it sat there all day til about 6pm when someone took it back to there side. Left some branches in front of my house that I swept back on there side. Done. No! So next collection day I set my trash out(mind you they had started parking all their cars on their side and I was so thankful) they came and set their bin right next to mines. I was like okkkk is this a new trend?
I’m not from here so I was confused if that was what y’all do here? So I had to call the city about some fencing and so I asked and they said people’s bins should be in front of wi service address to avoid confusion. So I moved their bin back to their side for collection. Why did they put it back on my side but moved it a little more over. So I called the city back like where do we go from here? And they said they would notify them. To avoid confusion or any issues.
I knew they weee going to start parking in front of my house again to be annoying so I told myself to brace myself for that. But the bin is due for collection tomorrow and they are kinda in the way of where I wanted to put my bin. I’m still putting my bin there. But AITA? Is it wrong that I want my area to be my area majority of the time and others to stay in their area. What if I started parking front of their house everyday so they had to park in front of mines and then we all see how happy that makes us?
I don’t want any problems that’s why I don’t normally say anything about anything else. The parking. Their nasty animals poop. But can I just have some space to use the front of wheee I live for what I want? I’m seriously confused why they chose to park across the street when they could park on their side in front of their neighbors house but I guess.

2024.06.09 20:11 jaiki123 Any modifications, additions, practical solutions based on experience and daily need.

Hello RAV4 buddies,
I have recently joined the RAV4 club with a XLE Hybrid. I am looking for any recommended modifications, additions and practical solutions based on your everyday usage and experience.
I have noted some which I am looking to work on to make better use and /or appearance.
  1. Driver seat gap can be filled with a pocket that can hold phone and other such things.
  2. Reverse tilting mirrors
  3. Trunk organizer
  4. Pinstriping for stylish appearance.
  5. Fog lights
  6. Sliding shades for front windows.
  7. Cloth in all pockets/spaces to reduce the rattling noise due to stuff kept in them.
  8. Maybe blind spot mirrors as they helped in judging distance and also reverse parking.
  9. Horn
Please suggest any such things that you did on your car which made it more practical and / or made it more beautiful.
I would appreciate links of the products and their installation videos. Thanks!

2024.06.09 20:05 MadJMarston Demon Spawn

Demon Spawn
On my 2023 GR Corolla Circuit edition I have the Magnaflow Neo exhaust. Now that it is well broken in and been on for a few months I figured I would give it the respect due. Since day one, the butt dyno felt better however thus is probably just the increased sound. It did go thru a slight tin phase for about 1000 miles however some of that was getting everything tightened properly. Also, get a new factory exhuast gasket where it mates up under the car. Resusing the factory one, allowed for it to crunch and cause a leak behind the midpipe.
As far as sound, sure I can post a sound clip but honestly doesn't really give the full picture. Rather a description I feel would better fit. When you start up on a cold start it gives an evil rumble like an off key v8/muscle car. As you play on the throttle pedal, moving around at idle the sounds grow demonic. Quick taps of the throttle lead to a gnarling and gnashing sound of a demon hissing. Combine that with all the different turbo noises this car makes, it sounds like a possessed spicy little hatch. The sound fits the red and aggressive styling on a circuit very well.
To top it off, honestly they look great too.

2024.06.09 19:56 doema 2005 Corolla with continuous clicking noise when turning ignition

I have a problem that started about 3 weeks ago and I’m hoping some experts here can help shed some light as to what is going on. The car in question is a 2005 Toyota Corolla with 127K miles on it. Due to loud noises after each cold start, the alternator was replaced by a mechanic Dec 2021.
About 3 weeks ago during a random inspection under hood, I noticed excessive corrosion around the battery terminal while also seeing the battery manufacture date showed March 2018. I decided to pre-emptively replace the aging battery while also buying battery terminal cleaner + NOCO maintenance spray. The battery is an Interstate brand purchased from Costco. All seem to go smoothly and right after the swap upon the first turn of ignition, I heard several “clicks” before the engine started. Noted the weird incident but didn’t think much of it and the car continued to start fine the next few days.
One week later while out running errands and was about to drive back home, I turn the key and this time it kept clicking without the engine turning over. I got scared and kept trying a few more times and it was maybe upon the 5th attempt the engine finally came on again and rushed to go home and leave the car there until I figure out what’s going on.
At the time, my online research pointed me to a possible bad starter, that “on average starters go bad between 100 – 150K miles” and that sounded right as my car’s mileage was right in the middle of that range. Did some starter replacement how-to search on youtube and it seemed doable. As I wanted to do the repair asap, Amazon with 1-day shipping seemed the quickest and I ordered a part that had mostly great reviews although it wasn’t an oem remanufactured part. Received the part the new starter the very next day and got it installed after 1 hour.
With the new starter, the first attempt at turning the ignition had the car turning over the engine right away and everything was running. The car would then start each and every time without issue (turning over much quicker vs old starter) for the next 2 weeks while being driven daily.
Fast forward to yesterday and I go to use the car and turning the ignition only led to multiple clicks with all warning lights coming on. Several attempts at turning the ignition led to the same continuous clicking noise.
For all the pros here, what could possibly be the problem? Is it possible the new starter is defective? I have basic multimeter on the way and will also check the new car battery although I don’t suspect it to be the problem. Tks in advance for any help/advice.

2024.06.09 19:53 AdhesivenessDeep5521 How to have noise cancellation for microfone?

os - pop!_os
I have been using this OS as a dual boot. The mic sensitivity is very high compared to windows. The mic picks up road car sounds like crystal clear compared to Windows. I tried NoiseTorch but its not at all working at all and I saw "PipeWire support is in alpha quality" so its not fully supported in pipewire. I did `pactl info` it returned:

I tried to install pulseaudio as NoiseTorch is supported in it but pipewire is not letting me.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: pop-pipewire : Depends: pipewire-alsa but it is not going to be installed Conflicts: pulseaudio Conflicts: pulseaudio:i386 E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages
I manually kept the mic sensitivity low but it automatically increases and picks up every noise of my surrounding.

2024.06.09 19:50 JayAlbright20 Dealer can’t fix my truck! What now??

So have a 2018 grand Cherokee high altitude with 58k on it. I bought it last year as a certified pre owned vehicle with an extended warranty under Stellantis.
It’s been at the dealer for service going on almost two months now trying to diagnose and repair a knocking noise coming from under the truck.
So far they’ve replaced the rear diff, rear drive shaft, transfer case and transfer case module with no success in fixing the problem! Its all been covered under warranty. I’ve already contacted Jeep Cares and they been in contact with the dealer for status updates but not really doing anything.
So wtf now man I’m so frustrated. They haven’t fixed it and doesn’t seem like they have a real idea of how to at this point. They offered me a standard trade in value for it but it would make no sense financially for me to take the offer. It would be 10k less than what I just paid for it 10 months ago.
I’m tired of paying car loan pmt every month for a vehicle I can’t drive. Any options here for me???

Can I lift and support my car like this?
Hi, I want to lift my car for a transmission fluid change and filter change, I found a video online showing how to lift and more importantly where to place the jack stands
https://youtu.be/IrR9daVesgk?si=_e5DtAcknijeA6BX
I mostly need to find some jack stand support point in my Suzuki swift 2009, I cannot lift it from the front as my trolley jack is too high and too short to reach the subframe.
I thought about supporting the car from the subframe and lifting it from the lifting metal hooks when both the jack and the jack stands can be placed according to the manufacturer. Is it a good idea to put jack stands in such location?

2024.06.09 19:46 dcostz Useful tools/power tools for working on my '05

-subie wave-
sup guys. title says it all pretty much. i just got a quote back from the mechanic for nearly $4,000 for a few (in my mind) pretty basic maintenance items on my subaru. correct me if i'm wrong on the "basic" part, but here's what they quoted me for
the way i see it, my car isn't worth spending $4,000 dollars on. it's an '05 automatic trans WRX wagon with 120k miles. it's worth maybe 6-7k if i were to sell it. but, i don't want to sell it. so i've decided i'm going to take the money that i WOULD be giving to the auto repair shop and put it into my own garage in the form of tools. obviously parts aren't cheap but with a budget of about $2,000, i could outfit myself pretty well with some new tools and all the replacement parts i would need. i already have a decent socket set, some screwdrivers, an oil pan, and some funnels. i also have access to a jack and jackstands. i've done a number of my own oil changes, did my own spark plugs about 40k miles ago, and a few other things like trans fluid drain and fill. i've taken the car to a reputable local shop for my past 4-5 oil changes because i didn't feel like doing it myself, but this time is different. the car will also eventually need a new turbo which i also plan on doing myself.
my question is, are there any tools that you guys use regularly that i should buy that would be really useful in working on my subie?

2024.06.09 19:36 Alvitae Will a weak hybrid battery run hot or is it the hybrid cooling system bad as well?

2008 Prius. Southwest Arizona desert, 107° in the shade. Dr. Prius says my battery is at 29% and needs replacing. It also said the battery was 133° and the numbers were red. Also the charging numbers were red. After idling for 45-60 minutes in the drive home the car was shaking and making a noise. It hasn't done it since. Will a weak battery cause the hybrid cooling system to over heat? If so I may just replace the battery. But if it's a hybrid cooling problem plus a bad battery the car is getting sold to the best offer. I've dumped way too much money into the car as it is.

2024.06.09 19:12 Ventricossum Volvo S70 gas smell?

Volvo S70 gas smell?
Just replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Car runs amazing now, normal fuel consumption, everything seemed fine. However, especially with the windows down, theres a very notable gasoline/fuel smell. Not sure where it could be from.
I did not smell it before the replacement. I figured if I put something in wrong or the pump wasnt sealed right, it wouldnt work right either, so I'm a bit lost as the car runs great. Could the smell from havkng everything out linger for more than a week? I dont see any fluid leaks either which is also stumping me.

2024.06.09 19:12 Captain_Pink_Pants Surprise "upgrade"!

I travel a lot, frequently for a week or two at a time... And since I don't live close to my indy shop and it's on the way to the airport, I usually leave the car with them when I'm gone. It's also a great way to avoid paying airport parking.
Usually when I do this, I try to build a service order that covers all my maintenance, and also includes at least one upgrade or mod. Doesn't have to be big, but I love coming home to a new feature. But this time, just the maintenance ticket was like $6k (Stage 2 B8.5 S5 daily, replace PCV and everything near it, brake rotors, pads, and flush, control arms, oil change, filters, etc.). I really wasn't in the mood to see that price go up for some random mod. I figured just getting that work completed and behind me would be satisfying enough.
Well, apparently I didn't appreciate how far gone the PCV and control arms were... And I was really pleasantly surprised when I picked up the car to find that this made a huge improvement in the driving experience! I noticed it as soon as I got in the car. Another item on the ticket was welding in my 034 x-pipe to replace the mounting clamps. I was curious whether this would change how it sounds, so I had my door open for the cold start, and after the revs dropped, I blipped the throttle a bit... I immediately noticed that the engine revved quicker than I expected. I got on my way and was surprised at how much more responsive the throttle was... I also had vastly improved steering response and feel due to the new control arms. Overall, the driving experience was really significantly improved!
Additionally, my car has the adaptive sport suspension, which cannot be independently controlled, but changes the damping based in part on the other drive mode settings (dynamic vs. comfort), and seemingly also based on other telemetry it gets from the rest of the car. I say this because the suspension became stiffer in every setting after I tuned the car, but I don't really know what it's based on. I've never found any documentation on how this version of the suspension actually works.
While it's hard to tell based just on my butt-dyno, it sure seems like the suspension is stiffer after this service visit. I took one of my favorite twisties going home and loved how the car handled, which I attributed to the control arms... But I live on a pretty bumpy road, and had grown accustomed to leaving the car in Individual mode, with the engine, steering and differential set to dynamic. and the exhaust set to comfort. But driving home last night, I had put the whole system in comfort mode just in the hopes of retaining all my dental work. It's possible that this was just due to the control arm replacement, but it really seems like whatever special sauce is controlling the suspension has upped the settings. If anyone can shed any light on how that system works, I am all ears!
Anyway... tl;dr... I reluctantly took my car in for a maintenance visit without any upgrades, but I got upgrades anyway! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Ford 10R80 valve body
Hi all,
I am from Europe and there is no support for transmissions. I have problem with my ranger. 10 speed automatic. Slipping out of gear and have trouble codes about solenoids.
My plan is to change valve body. How I can identify right part?
Authorized dealer is not much help. They offered me new transmission. They even can't sell filter ...
Car is Ford Ranger Raptor 2019 2.0 bi-turbo diesel. I don't know is valve body is the same like for F150.
Hope somebody there can give me advice how to find right part number. If it needed I will take off transmission pan.
Thank you

2024.06.09 18:44 SnooFloofs1429 TIFU by calling my dead client’s son

So this happened roughly a few months ago and I am still in shock. For context: I work in luxury automotive on the service side. I see a lot of “high profile” people and people who are just absolutely loaded.
I had a client come in for repairs this winter on his vehicle. We were doing quite a bit of work and he just wanted to make sure he had it by the summer. Sure thing. So as we work on it, I’m calling him or emailing him once every two weeks or so just to update him on where we are with his vehicle.
Eventually around the middle of January, guy just goes complete radio silence. No one can get ahold of him. I called him, his wife, his DIL- nothing from anyone. His son eventually calls me in the end of March and goes “Hey! Is my dad’s car ready yet? He just woke up out of a coma and wants to drive it.” First thing out of this guys mouth was wanting to drive his car.
Car was done and I set a delivery date up with this dude and his kid. It was literally the next day. Keep in mind, we did about 20K worth of work on the car. It’s getting close to the end of the month, so I’m trying to get this car out the door. The client calls me the next morning and confirms the total for the repair order and tells me he wants to do a “grand delivery.” So I stage the car up front, make sure it’s all washed and pretty for the guy. Well his delivery window comes and goes, and he is a no show.
I pull the car in, called the client and he answered but it sounded like he was in an amusement park with all the noise behind him. I couldn’t hear anything he was saying, and eventually he just hung up. So I give it 20 minutes and call the son, who was supposed to come with his dad, and the son answers. We chat for a good 10 minutes or so just making chitchat and he goes “Sorry we can’t get the car today.” And I asked if he wanted it delivered, or if there was anything I could help with. This man goes “well getting there is not the issue, the issue is my dad died about 30 minutes ago.”
I’m still not sure what I said to get off the phone but I just remember hanging up, turning to my boss, telling him what just happened, and staring at the wall feeling like a piece of shit for the final 10 minutes of my day.
TL;DR: I accidentally called my client while he was dying to try to get him to pick up his car, and then talked to his son 30 minutes after he did die.

2024.06.09 18:43 HotEntranceTrain Machine learning algorithms for predicting stock prices

Stock price prediction is one of the most challenging and exciting applications of machine learning. It involves analyzing historical and real-time data of stocks and other financial assets to forecast their future values and movements. Stock price prediction can help investors make better decisions, optimize their strategies and maximize their profits.

Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that enables computers to learn from data and improve their performance without explicit programming. Machine learning algorithms can process large amounts of data, identify patterns and trends, and make predictions based on statistical methods.

There are different types of machine learning algorithms that can be used for stock price prediction, depending on the nature and complexity of the problem. Some of the common types are:

- Linear regression: This is a simple and widely used algorithm that models the relationship between a dependent variable (such as stock price) and one or more independent variables (such as market indicators, company earnings, etc.). It assumes that the dependent variable is a linear function of the independent variables, plus some random error. Linear regression can be used to estimate the slope and intercept of the linear function, and to make predictions based on new input values.
- Long short-term memory (LSTM): This is a type of recurrent neural network (RNN) that can handle time-series data, such as stock prices. RNNs are composed of interconnected units that can store and process sequential information. LSTM is a special kind of RNN that can learn long-term dependencies and avoid the problem of vanishing or exploding gradients. LSTM can be used to capture the temporal dynamics and patterns of stock prices, and to generate trading signals based on historical and current data.
- Kalman filter: This is a recursive algorithm that can estimate the state of a dynamic system based on noisy and incomplete observations. It consists of two steps: prediction and update. In the prediction step, it uses a mathematical model to predict the next state of the system based on the previous state and some control input. In the update step, it uses a measurement model to correct the prediction based on the new observation. Kalman filter can be used to track and smooth the stock prices over time, and to reduce the impact of noise and outliers.

To illustrate how these algorithms work, let us consider an example of predicting Google stock prices using historical data from 1/1/2011 to 1/1/2021.

- Linear regression: We can use linear regression to model the relationship between Google stock price (y) and some market indicators (x), such as S&P 500 index, NASDAQ index, Dow Jones index, etc. We can use scikit-learn library in Python to fit a linear regression model to the data and obtain the coefficients of the linear function. We can then use this function to predict Google stock price for any given values of x.
- LSTM: We can use LSTM to model the sequential behavior of Google stock price over time. We can use TensorFlow or Keras library in Python to build an LSTM network with multiple layers and units. We can train this network with historical Google stock prices as input and output sequences. We can then use this network to predict Google stock price for any given time step based on previous time steps.
- Kalman filter: We can use Kalman filter to estimate Google stock price based on noisy observations. We can use pykalman library in Python to implement a Kalman filter with a linear state-space model. We can specify the transition matrix, observation matrix, initial state mean and covariance, transition noise covariance and observation noise covariance for this model. We can then use this filter to predict Google stock price for any given observation based on previous observations.

These are some examples of how machine learning algorithms can be used for predicting stock prices. However, there are many other factors that affect stock prices, such as news events, investor sentiment, market psychology, etc. Therefore, machine learning algorithms alone cannot guarantee accurate and reliable predictions. 2024.06.09 18:34 NeverGiveUpOnYourGut NAD 3020 amplifier makes scratchy noises every third second

Hi
Total tech/audio newbie in need of help.
My NAD 3020 had been working great for years, but I accidentally got a lot of dust inside it and though I would carefully remove it with a soft brush, but I somehow broke something in the cleaning process.
It is still playing, but the sound is bad and every third second it makes a loud scratchy noise.
I tried different speakers without luck, so surely it must be the amplifier
Any tech expert out there who can hear what might be the problem?
Thanks

2024.06.09 18:28 manicdejection Crank, no start

Crank, no start
Short story, pulled my 1996 (N/A 1.8 EGR delete/PS delete) into the driveway because in the next 2 hours, I would have been pulling it in to pull the engine for rebuild. 2 hours later, crank/no start. It would start for (literally) a split second but die off just as soon as it started. Spark is good. Fuel pump and filter are 2 years old, but no fuel flowing. Replaced FP relay. Fuel now flowing but still no start.
I know it’s not the ignition system, because the plugs weren’t fouled and I tested coils with a REV9 COP kit I had had on the car previously.
Am I missing something here? The car sat pretty much all winter but started up just fine after the fact.
Only codes stored are EGR codes
Vacuum lines seem to be fine.
Only thing I can think of is a bad crank angle sensor but considering my luck that won’t be it either.
At a loss so if anybody has run into a similar issue any advice/assistance will be appreciated.
AMA and thank you in advance!!
