2024.05.17 13:48 Individual-Bee3395 Mental Health Awareness Week

Just sharing my thoughts on this week because I’ve found myself feeling worse on a week like this because of all the platitudes and virtue signalling.
I guess I’m not angry at the sentiment of mental health awareness week, I just feel like ever week should be mental health awareness week.
This week, on Monday, my director of sales proudly told everyone he’s a mental health first aider and let us all know - he knows how to deal with a mental health emergency.
It got me thinking about when I got put in an NHS psych ward, the people who were having psychotic episodes who were totally detached from reality - some of them very dangerous. I wanted to ask my sales director “have you ever actually seen a real mental health emergency?”
Maybe I’m wrong, and feel free to disagree, but I just feel like mental health week pays lip service to something which goes so deep.

2024.05.17 13:23 NimbleThor 5 Quick tl;dr iOS Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 218)

Welcome back, fellow mobile gamers :) As per tradition, here are my weekly mobile game recommendations based on the most interesting games I played and that were covered on MiniReview this week! :) I hope you'll enjoy some of them.
Support these posts (and YouTube content + development of MiniReview) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NimbleThor <3
This episode includes a great racing game, a fun arcade platformer, a great deck-builder roguelike RPG, an arcade casual game, and a neat deck-building dungeon crawler.

Let's get to the games:

Art of Rally [Game Size: 2.3 GB] ($4.99)

Genre: Racing / Simulation - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by NimbleThor:
Art of Rally is a rally racing game with an amazing atmosphere, several fun game modes that range from casual to hardcore, and deep gameplay customization settings.
The main career mode has us play through several years of rally history on tracks all around the world, unlocking new cars and skins as we progress.
In addition to the campaign, however, there is a custom rally mode, a time-attack mode where we can try all of the game’s vehicles, a free-roam mode where we drive around a large open world to collect items, and daily and weekly online events with leaderboards.
What I like the best about Art of Rally is that it can be as casual or hardcore as you want. Free roaming is a fun laid-back experience while the time-attack modes are incredibly challenging. And even in the career mode, we can pick the difficulty of our AI opponents.
The touch controls are okay but lack different options. Thankfully, the game plays perfectly with a Bluetooth controller, and there are lots of customization options for everything from the HUD to the interface and gameplay, including changing the steering sensitivity, enabling anti-lock braking, and much more.
The game has a great atmosphere, and the low-poly art style and minimalistic UI fit nicely. Unfortunately, loading between menus and levels is slow, and I ran into a few minor bugs - so the game isn’t perfectly ported from PC.
Art of Rally is a $4.99 premium game with a single $1.99 optional DLC that adds additional map areas.
It’s a game more about precision than driving super-fast, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I think you’ll enjoy Art of Rally – especially if you have a controller to play it with.

Level Devil - NOT A Troll Game [Total Game Size: 87 MB] (Free)

Genre: Platform / Arcade - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by Ark:
Level Devil is an easy arcade platformer with no surprises or frustrations at all… or is it?
The game has us move left, right, and jump to navigate seemingly simple one-screen stages. But as we progress, the game starts trolling us in lots of unexpected ways.
Floors suddenly disappear beneath our feet, spikes spawn at what looks like safe spots, and the game sometimes even changes the rules of physics by lowering the gravity or reversing it altogether.
So you better be prepared for some rage-inducing deaths. But to me, the game’s main appeal is exactly these unexpected twists. The game quickly becomes all about anticipating the next troll attempt, and nothing beats the satisfaction I got from outsmarting a level in my first attempt.
There are 80 stages in total, with the game autosaving every 5 stages. And while some stages are challenging, they’re all short and concise. The controls are also simple and responsive. Unfortunately, there is no music at all, and the graphics are very minimal, with just a single yellow-reddish color scheme that gets old in no time.
Level Devil monetizes via occasional forced ads between levels and deaths, and a $0.99 iAP to remove these for good. Thankfully, I didn’t personally find the ads to be too intrusive, even with me dying a lot.
Despite being a troll game, it balances overall fun vs. overall difficulty very well. So I was able to complete it relatively easily without getting too frustrated. You could say I had a "devilish good time" beating the game.

Loop Hero [Game Size: 250 MB] (Free Trial)

Genre: RPG / Deck-Builder / Roguelike - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by JBMessin:
Loop Hero is a mobile port of an incredibly unique tactical roguelike that mixes lots of gameplay elements, including deck-building, auto-battling, resource management, and city-building.
We begin the game in a place outside space and time on a dangerous path that forms a loop. Our character traverses the loop on his own, automatically fighting the enemies that spawn every day. These encounters provide us with loot that we equip to grow stronger and cards that are used to alter the loop.
Playing a card somewhere on the path changes what happens every time our hero walks through that part of the loop. For example, we may place a grove that spawns a rat every 2 days, which we then fight to grow stronger. This ability to customize the loop is one of the most unique aspects of the game, and I really enjoyed it.
After our first campfire is built, we begin to meet heroes who are just as lost as we are. Through short dialogues with them, we start to learn about the game’s light city-building mechanics. There are plenty of buildings to construct that offer all kinds of new and interesting gameplay mechanics - and even new classes to go on expeditions with.
What I immediately appreciated about Loop Hero was its top-notch soundtrack reminiscent of early 8-bit games like Castlevania, and the sprites that are stylized to match the gloomy setting but still vibrant in their design.
The biggest downside is that my large fingers sometimes made it hard to see where I was placing things. The game is definitely best enjoyed on larger phones.
Loop Hero is free to try, with a single $6.99 iAP unlocking the full game.
If you enjoy excellent roguelikes with unique gameplay mechanics, I think you’ll enjoy Loop Hero.

Tumble Rush [Game Size: 159 MB] (Free)

Genre: Arcade / Casual - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by NimbleThor:
Tumble Rush is a fun, fast-paced marble maze arcade game where we guide a ball through small top-down levels while avoiding obstacles, traps, and holes.
Apart from rolling around with our sphere character, the only other thing we can do is tap an interaction button that activates/deactivates doors, turn on fans that let us get over obstacles, and much more.
Despite the additional puzzle elements introduced along the way, the game is very easy in the beginning – maybe even to a fault. I quickly grew bored with the early levels. But thankfully, if you stick with the game, it eventually becomes much harder.
The coins we collect in each level are used to unlock new cosmetics for our character. But what’s really cool is that they also completely change the design and theme of every level. So unlocking cosmetics quickly became my primary objective.
While the standard mode is relatively easy and lacks a bit of variety, the game also features a much more challenging time attack mode, where we attempt to finish levels fast enough to earn three stars. And if we get bored with that, there’s an endless mode where we earn more and more gold the further we get.
The standard gyroscopic controls work alright, but I personally preferred one of the touch control options.
Tumble Rush monetizes by showing ads between levels. They appear relatively frequently but can thankfully be removed via a single $1.99 iAP.
It’s an arcade game that gets better the further you get. So if you’re looking for a fun game that can be played as casually or competitively as you want, I think you might like Tumble Rush.

SOULVARS (Game Size: 346 MB] ($4.99)

Genre: Deck-Building / Dungeon Crawler - Offline
Orientation: Portrait
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by AlexSem:
SOULVARS is a futuristic mix of a jRPG and a deck builder, where we fight demonic creatures using a deck of cards produced by the gear we equip.
Working for a secret government organization, our job is to maintain peace by engaging in bloody confrontations with hungry spirits that invade the human world via spontaneous portal-like breaches.
The combat system is quite elaborate. First of all, our deck is defined by the gear we equip, and each card lets us execute an action, such as using a shield, performing various elemental attacks, or dealing different types of physical damage.
Picking two different types of cards allows us to perform devastating combo actions. But we must also pay attention to our enemies’ resistances, constantly charge our “burst” meter to eventually turn into a powerful monster, and link together attacks of multiple characters. And this is just a small portion of the game’s many combat mechanics.
Mindlessly executing random moves works for a while, but we eventually face enemies so strong that this tactic isn’t enough. This is where the game's complex combat systems comes into play, and we need to learn all its intricacies and meticulously manage our equipment to win. This will be too challenging for some players, but a joy for others.
The exploration part of the game consists of navigating maze-like rooms, interacting with the environment, collecting loot, talking to people, and engaging in random battles - an old jRPG structure that is apparently still popular among certain audiences.
SOULVARS is a premium game that costs $4.99.
While the game’s repetitiveness and unengaging plot eventually make the gameplay a bit boring, there’s more than enough entertainment for fans of complex combat systems.

2024.05.17 13:18 aLittlePheonix1 25 [M4F] Europe/Anywhere - Together forever?

Hello!
I am looking for a person with whom we can connect with and build a relationship together. Befriend each other from the start, spend time together, have new experiences, be it new to both or teach each other different things. Nerd out about stuff we like, support each other and slowly build our own world. The end goal that I envision and would love to achieve is just some basic, yet, intimate moments, that I believe both would enjoy, like:
There's more of course, but generally moments like these are the end goal. In short. the end goal is a romantic lifelong relationship.
About hobbies, I have a lot of hobbies and interests. My main hobbies would be working out, I'm a gym rat, I love working out. Gaming, I enjoy playing video games, board games, just games in general during my free time. Watching videos, streams, shows, movies, anime. I watch Youtube daily. a lot of different stuff. I enjoy watching true crime, like JCS, cam footage, documentaries and etc., games, reviews, news, memes and honestly, pretty much everything, mostly just go off of recommended or something I was waiting for. Besides videos, I mainly watch anime. I love all kinds. TV shows and movies not that much, due to either watching alone is not that interesting, or already watched everything I liked and no new parts, seasons, episodes came out yet. I enjoy listening to music, my taste is all over the place, genre doesn't really matter, I just have to like the song, I also like writing, started writing a story some time back and still in the process of combining all the elements, though it's a very slow process due to time and how much actually gets invested into that. And generally I am artsy, I enjoy imagining and creating. There are more interests, like learning languages for example, or drawing maybe, but they are something I do from time to time maybe, or during different moods, but these are mostly my main hobbies that I do day to day.
My main values are communication and effort. I believe anything can be achieved if both parties put the same amount of effort towards each other. That's how a true relationship will be built. In my eyes, communication is key to everything. I am a non-judgemental person, and always want and willing to talk everything through, so every opinion is heard, every view is understood and both parties are satisfied. Without clear and well communication, everything will just fall apart piece by piece, especially if the communication and effort is one sided.
Your location or distance doesn't matter. My age range is 18 - 35.
If any of this caught your interest, feel free to reach out!

2024.05.17 12:58 SashaPurrs05682 Your path forward after Spotify drops Music + Talk??

Hi, I have a small podcast that’s not quite a year old. My co-host and I are trying to figure out our best path forward once Music + Talk ends.
Has anyone else found a similar free service anywhere? If not then how will you adapt your show?
Ideas so far are: do it as a YouTube show, sometimes livestreaming and sometimes not live, only using bands who give us copyright permission; do a talk-only show with links to playlists in episode descriptions; or do it as a local college radio show (but FCC regs and punk songs don’t mix well)…
Are there other options you guys know about? All ideas welcome.
Anyone else out there in the same boat who might want to spend some time with me collaborating on testing out live streaming scenarios with a few different remote cohosts and band members guests, while simultaneously playing the music / videos and managing the waiting room & livestream chats?
Basically trying to get the hang of it all while working out all possible tech issues and limitations before actually doing it for a live audience?
Thanks!!

2024.05.17 12:56 Apprentice57 Reddit (and Thomas) Take the Bar Exam: Week 13

This is where, for fun and education, we play alongside Thomas on T3BE questions from the multistate bar exam.
The correct answer to last "week"'s public question will be edited in when I have a chance. For now the answer and explanation can be found in the episode itself.
Scores updates to come when I have a chance!
Rules:
  • You have until next week's T3BE goes up to answer this question, (get your answers in by the end of this coming Sunday US Pacific time at the latest in other words). The next RT2BE will go up not long after.
  • You may simply comment with what choice you've given, though more discussion is encouraged!
  • Feel free to discuss anything about RT2BE/T3BE here. However if you discuss anything about the question itself please use spoilers to cover that discussion/answer so others don't look at it before they write their own down.
    • Type it exactly like this >!Answer E is Correct!<, and it will look like this: Answer E is Correct
    • Do not put a space between the exclamation mark and the text! In new reddit/the official app this will work, but it will not be in spoilers for those viewing in old reddit!
  • Even better if you answer before you listen to what Thomas' guess was!
Week 13's Question:
Jack owns a large fish farm and keeps several difference species, including a type of fish known for its aggressive behavior. One day, a group of divers enters his property without permission and is attacked by the aggressive fish, resulting in injuries. The divers sue Jack under strict liability for their injuries. How will a court likely rule?
A. In favor of Jack, because the divers were trespassing on his property.
B. In favor of the divers, because Jack is strictly liable for injuries caused by his dangerous animals, regardless of the divers' trespassing.
C. In favor of Jack, if he can prove that he had posted adequate warning signs about the aggressive fish.
D. In favor of the divers, but only if they can prove that Jack was negligent in securing the area where the aggressive fish were kept.

2024.05.17 12:47 Greedy-Limit3058 I (21M) and my (21F) gf have fights always, is this okay?

I (21M) and my gf (21F) are in a relationship for almost 3 years. It started nice, we were loving each other and were seeing eachother a lot. I come from a family that didn't have a big apartment, so me and my sister lived in the same room as my parents, we went about our lives like this while my father was a hoarder, so the house was always full of stuff. Her parents always fought, her dad was an alcoholic and She had a rough childhood, needing to watch after a child (not hers). Now going to the relationship stuff, we have big fights from time to time. She entered in a lot of my family's problems, trying to help me to set boundaries even though, at the time I felt guilty for trying to set boundaries. She has also fixed my problems with hygiene (I washed and stuff, but sometimes I was too exhausted from work or simply had a bad mood) but I understood it was important for her, and I took it as something very serious. When we had some fights she would get very emotional and whenever the subject was about me upsetting her with something, I would almost always close myself and start stonewalling.
I have to mention that at the start of the relationship, when she would feel sad (she had many episodes when out of nowhere I had to lift her up emotionally), so I started to get a little tired.
After almost a year of the relationship, we had moved together to another city for studying, here the fights continued, we fought about me not eating enough, me not being next to her when she needed, me not being more affectionate, for not making food or coming with ideas for food, for not spending enough quality tine together me not being enough(I felt like). She studied and stayed at home to make food and keep the house clean, while I worked as a part-time courier and also doing stuff around the house like cleaning and making something fast to eat while she was tired.
Sometime later I went to work somewhere else, where I had to work 14 hours a day, for 2 days, then the next 2 days would be free. It was better paid but more exhausting. I started to come home tired and sleepy, so after work I just wanted to sleep or maybe cuddle a little(maybe sexually). Sometimes she was upset that I said that I was tired but had enough energy to do sexual things(fingering and stuff, not sex). Now I understood her complaints, so I stopped, but there were days where I was still too tired to listen to her problems about the relationship or about her colleagues, I tried telling her that I am very tired and I am not in the mood now for listening. After responses like these she would sometimes get upset for not wanting to listen to her. After that I had to try to get her emotionally up again, try to speak to me and then listen to her while I was very tired. I understood that I have to leave some of my needs apart in order to fulfill hers. I started drinking coffee before going home, trying to get my energy up and be there for her and try to do all the things I know she would like.
Now she said that I neglect myself a lot in order to fulfill her needs and this is not okay, she does not want to see me in this shape and started berating at me(this Fight started because we were watching a podcast about sex and psychology, She asked me If I can watch it and in my mind i thought that I needed to say yes while I was kinda tired after a long day ). She later told me that If I truly have known her, she would get mad at me only when I didn't want to listen to her, and not in that situation, which is true, but I feel like sometimes I have to guess her feelings, and if I ask I feel like it is not okay. She gets very vocal (sometimes yelling, sometimes using absolutes like always or never) and views a lot of tiktok's about relationships where even if the girl is yelling, the boy should know how to comfort her and be next to her, so She told me to (be a man) like those (from my understanding)
She has an anxious attachment style and I have an avoidant (maybe disorganised) attachment style. I just want to know If I am at fault for the downside of the relationship or not(As I understood from her side).
Side note( we never had intercourse, she is scared of the idea but open to trying if I would just be there for her and provide the emotional stability she needs).

Fully Explained: Categorized by Color (Part IV)
To celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Phantom Menace this 19th of May, I decided to go all out on discovering the hidden effects or poorly described star cards in this game based on the plentiful resources and posts of the past (References are found at the end). At the same time, I did what I could to rewrite the ability and card descriptions to be somewhat unilateral and have similar explanations. Many were a surprise to be sure but a welcome one, while others are completely out of hand. Use what’s useful to you, and feel free to share your own test results. At last we will reveal these stats to all, at last…

NOTES
· The EPIC rarity is only stated in the card description if it is a different value than shown in-game.
· All Star Card descriptions were rewritten to be unilateral and have similar explanations. The names of heroes and second-person pronouns were avoided.
· Clearer antonyms are used: increased/decreased; extended/reduced.
o Increase/decrease suggests a progression in size, amount, or numbers (like adding/subtracting health, damage, stamina drain, and sprint speed).
o Extend/reduce suggests a change made to a value or number (like percentages for time, distance, and blaster heat).
· Damage Reduction is received; health points are regained.
· To avoid confusion, the term increased cooldown speed and increased recharge time (which uses percentage increased) is avoided. To keep all related effects as close in description as possible: extended/reduced cooldown time (still percentage) is the simplest way to describe the effect without changing the in-game number values.
· Extra damage is damage added to ability; bonus damage is situational.
· Some values were rounded to whole numbers to reflect in-game values. Such are health points, damage points, and blaster overheat. As a result, though noticeably small, the actual values in-game may be a little off when it comes to stacked values (like stacking damage reduction) and are yet to be tested.
· Some stats between the BF2 wiki and SammyBoiii’s Hero Guides differ in stats; however, they agree for the most part and usually differ by units less than a second.
· Feel free to pick any hero and test out the stats yourself. The more accurate stats we have, the better we can use them.
· Question Marks are unknown values. If you happen to know them or calculate the value, feel free to share them. Video proof seems to always work best.
· I personally feel that being open to the intricacies of every star card and ability is the best way to go and should not be considered an exploit. Everyone should know what’s happening when the enemy team starts using these game-changers (and there are many people who do), and best enabling them to learn how to counter it. In the end, understanding these little details leads to a more competitive and playable battlefront.
· Although not too often, some of the supposed up-to-date references below contradict each other; I had to make a final choice without having the time to test them.
· Getting all these stats was a hard-earned headache in the end. Feel free to correct any discrepancies you may find!

Fully Explained: Star Cards for Lightsaber & Force Heroes (Part II)
To celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Phantom Menace this 19th of May, I decided to go all out on discovering the hidden effects or poorly described star cards in this game based on the plentiful resources and posts of the past (References are found at the end). At the same time, I did what I could to rewrite the ability and card descriptions to be somewhat unilateral and have similar explanations. Many were a surprise to be sure but a welcome one, while others are completely out of hand. Use what’s useful to you, and feel free to share your own test results.

Fully Explained: Hero Descriptions (Part I)
To celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Phantom Menace this 19th of May, I decided to go all out on discovering the hidden effects or poorly described star cards in this game based on the plentiful resources and posts of the past (References are found at the end).
