2024.05.18 22:11 Definition_Novel Vytautas Montvila: the Lithuanian Diaspora’s true unsung hero.

Vytautas Montvila: the Lithuanian Diaspora’s true unsung hero.
In the age of current mass glorification via media from Lithuania and the United States of diaspora Lithuanian fascists like Adolfas Ramanauskas (Ramanauskas was born in New Britain, Connecticut, USA and later moved to Lithuania, later collaborating with Nazis during their invasion) or Lithuanian exile fascists like Jonas Mekas, few diaspora Lithuanians remember the names of revolutionary socialist Lithuanian diaspora heroes like Vytautas Montvila or Antanas Bimba. Antanas Bimba was a Lithuanian involved in the early American Communist movement, and a post will be made for him sometime later. As for the story of Montvila, It is up to Lithuanians everywhere to give this man his credit as a hero and martyr against fascism.
Vytautas was born to to an ethnic Lithuanian Catholic immigrant family in 1902 in the city of St. Charles, Illinois. His family, like many Lithuanian immigrants to America at the time, left Lithuania due to persecution by czarist Russian Empire authorities, whom sought to ban Lithuanian language as well as restrict the Catholic Church in favor of Orthodoxy. This persecution under czarism caused many minorities, particularly ethnic Lithuanian Catholics and Lithuanian Jews, to move often to the United States, Canada, or South American nations. In 1906, he and his family returned to Lithuania, moving to the city of Marijampolė. The family later moved to Degučiai, then a Marijampolė suburb.
As Vytautas grew older, between the years of 1922-26 he joined the Kėdainiai Teacher’s Seminary. It was somewhat of a social club for study, covering a wide range of topics, such as science, culture, atheism, and philosophy. Members were of various political parties, but it was here Vytautas became acquainted with local Communist activists and gained entry into the wider movement. The communists at these meetings often discussed Marxist theory, offered to share sections of the Communist Manifesto, and recruited members into local Worker’s Guilds. In 1923, he began writing his early poetry, often revolutionary in nature and influenced by avant-garde style. In his most famous poem, “Naktys be Nakvynės” (ENG: “Nights Without Accommodation”), written early in his career, he champions revolutionary socialism and personifies art of poetry as a tool for revolution. His later work from 1940-41 reflects the new Soviet period, condemns the reactionary past, hoping towards a socialist future in Lithuania. These later poems were influenced heavily by the works of fellow Soviet poet V. Mayakovsky, whose works Montvila enjoyed. These later works by Montvila were of a topical oratorical style, and he is credited often with having laid the foundation for other Lithuanian Soviet poets at the time. Montvila also wrote short stories and portions of novels. Among other feats, he translated the novel “Mother” by fellow Soviet writer Maxim Gorky, from Russian into Lithuanian, as well as translated the writer Émile Zola’s novel “The Collapse” from its original French into Lithuanian.
He shortly then studied in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Lithuania (Today, Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas).
Following his departure from university, he began a life fully committed to revolutionary socialist activism. In 1929, in an effort to organizationally unify leftist writers against the bourgeoisie, he published the revolutionary almanac “Raketa” (ENG: “Rocket.”) For this, he was imprisoned from his arrest in 1929 to 1931. During 1935, he moved back to Marijampolė, and published the “Skardas” (ENG: “Tin”) worker’s newspaper for the Communist faction of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party. He also published other socialist newspapers, titled “Darbas” (ENG: “Work”), “Kultūra” (ENG: “Culture”), “Aušrine” (ENG: “Dawn”), and “Prošvaistė” (ENG: “The Light”) for various leftist organizations. He simultaneously worked odd jobs to add to his livelihood.
Upon establishment of the Soviet Lithuanian government in 1940, Montvila, like many leftist Lithuanian citizens, was thrilled and ready for change, having been oppressed in a society previously plagued by issues such as anti-communism, rural serfdom, clerical fascism, anti-Semitism, and capitalist exploitation of all of the working people of Lithuania. Vytautas dedicated specialized time to working with Soviet authorities to publish and translate revolutionary texts from various authors, as well as delivering his own revolutionary pro-Soviet speeches. He continued this into 1941, the final year of his life.
Upon the Nazi invasion of Lithuania in mid-1941, he was captured by local collaborators and Gestapo. According to documents, he did not run or resist, rather instead defiantly, in true revolutionary martyr manner, insulted his captors. He was taken prisoner to the 9th Fort in Kaunas, where he was executed, being shot to death on July 19th, 1941, killed alongside many other Jewish and leftist victims of Nazi and collaborator fascist terror. To leftists who are aware of his heroism and revolutionary martyrdom, he is often compared to fellow revolutionary and Spanish poet F. Garcia Lorca, a leftist whom was executed by the Francoists. Vytautas, Lorca, and all revolutionaries shall be remembered forever. May we remember Vytautas Montvila, a hero to all Lithuanians, but especially to Lithuanians in the diaspora! Remember Vytautas Montvila, both uniquely a hero to Lithuanian-Americans, and the people of Lithuania!

2024.05.18 20:52 user5145 Have you experienced visions where you do things you would have never done?

First, ive read the faq and it did not answer my question. The place im from is kinda famous for having very bad health care so im reluctant to visit a doctor who will ignore me as that is what happened to many friends of mine. So i want to confirm if i should worry at all.
Ive never thought of schizophrenia as something bad and im not afraid to learn that i have it. Im not really sure what schizophrenia is and what are the symptoms. Can the following symptoms be caused by schizophrenia or maybe it is just stress? Have you ever experienced something similar?
  1. I (25m) started to have some worrying visions in primary school. I suspect that schizophrenic usually see other people who annoy them but in my case it was me who was hurting other people including my family and strangers. The visions were crazy real and they scared me a lot. There was no particular person or place that was causing them. They triggered at random and usually lasted about 3 seconds, after that i was back in time when the vision started.
  2. In high school the visions were replaced by flashes of lights. it is a bit dangerous because sometimes it happens when i drive the car and i literally see nothing for 2 seconds when it happens.
  3. Somewhen 2 years ago - about 4 years after i finished high school - the visions came back but this time i just jump out of windows. Sometimes it is just a wave of emotions and sometimes it is so real that i have to freeze in place for a few seconds to get hold of my emotions.
  4. All my life i was seeing illusions of green light quickly changing into red light. Usually at crosswalks but as well at slides in aqua parks. Recently i understood that they are fake but as a kid i ran into problems because of it.
  5. All my life i was hearing music from time to time when there was none. recently i started to hear piano notes, snoring, phone notifications, whispering and once ive even heard a voice ask me a question when i was alone in my apartment.
  6. Ive bad eyesight so im quite ignorant of me misinterpreting what i see but recently i literally saw my book breathe for a few seconds… it looked like something straight out of Harry Potter.
Edit: i added my age

2024.05.18 20:47 SeeThemFly2 "There's always a Twist at the End" might contain hints towards future episodes

So, I looked up the lyrics for "There's always a Twist at the End" and something really stuck out for me. The lyrics are *really* random. They just don't seem to make much sense. For example, a big section of all of the chorus is just a list of phrases that rhymes with "end". For example: descend, press send, Land's End, Make do and mend. None of them really have anything to do with a plot twist or dancing. "Press Send" might refer to sending a message. "Land's End" is a place in Cornwall, famous as the most southerly/westerly point in England. "Make do and mend" is a WW2 propaganda slogan encouraging people to recycle clothes. I can't quite work out why all these words have been put in the song, outside they rhyme with "end".
However, there was one phrase that stuck out to me after seeing Boom. It is part of the bridge and comes towards the end of the song, just before the final chorus.
Sing along if you’ve got a twist, Sing along if you kiss the mist, There’s a special little dance you’ll run the risk There’s always, always, always a twist…
These words don't really mean anything on their own. What does "kiss the mist" actually mean? When I googled it, a lot of romance novels called "Kiss in the Mist" got thrown up. But then it made me think...
The fog in Boom was a very prominent feature of the episode, andThe Doctor and Ruby also did a "special little dance" when Ruby was passing the Doctor the tube with Vater's body in it, during which they were arguably running the risk. Vater's "Kiss Kiss" message was arguably also the "twist" in the episode that ultimately saved the day. Could this therefore be a reference to the events of Boom? And if it is, does it mean there are other events from later in the series in the song? Although the next episode appears to be set in Wales, the cliffs we saw in the next time trailer are very reminiscent of Land's End. Are there any other subtle references in the song?

2024.05.18 20:43 Fun-Lengthiness-4144 Please help me help my little brother

My little brother was diagnosed with ACD when he was 3.5 years old. It was the first time my parents and I had heard of it. It was new to us because my country didn't provide enough care for it to be well-known, and proof of that is they initially misdiagnosed my little brother as being deaf. We thought he was deaf for a whole year, making him wear headphones against his will (because, as the doctors said, he just wasn't used to them yet).
After we confirmed that he actually has ACD with ADHD, we started to do everything we could, but my country has poor treatments for ACD. They are just good at taking your money without delivering any significant results.
We have been to multiple therapists, but nothing really changed. We even recently visited a psychologist/neuroscientist doctor who was very famous in Europe and extremely expensive, but we continue to see him regularly. Still, in the end, we see the same results—nothing new. After reading many of your parenting comments, it made sense that they aren't that effective because none of them ever taught us how to behave with him at home. Please consider that we had little information about autism, plus my mum didn't continue her education, so she was the most confused among us. My other brother and I are basically the ones taking care of our little brother since we were children, and we are worried sick every second for our brother.
Our little brother is ten years old now, and he can't even perform essential daily tasks. He can't eat, wash, go to the bathroom, dress, or sit properly by himself. I'm worried sick and anxious because he can't speak; he only makes random playful sounds and laughter. When he is sick, I become even more anxious because I don't know where it hurts or how we can help him. We can't even give him enough sunshine without him running everywhere, snatching snacks from other children's hands because of the ADHD, and without people staring, thinking we are kidnappers. (I don't even want to start complaining about how tiring ADHD is.)
Recently, I started just giving up, accepting our reality but at the same time growing sick of it. Then I remembered that I started learning English, and I can speak and write it at a level that foreign people would understand. So, what if I searched myself and learned the proper way to at least teach him to do his necessary needs? And that's what I'm doing.
I will continue to search more to help us help my little brother to at least be able to take care of himself, but I would be grateful if you helped me help my little brother.
Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that he has been taking many medications prescribed to him by the experts ever since he was diagnosed.

2024.05.18 20:43 GhostPalm18 Brief thoughts on "The Devil's Chord" and an alternative story route

Disclaimer: I do not wish to undermine Russel's work for the series, I'm merely offering my opinions and thoughts. I still think the episode is good
To be brief about my thoughts on Episode 2. I think it was pretty good, although I think it could've been more, and possibly take an alternate route.
When the preview for the Devil's Chord was released on YT. I theorised a potential plot line to how the episode could've gone. I thought that Maestro would offer Timothy Drake the opportunity to be the World's Best and most famous composer. and he would accept, in turn the Beatles never got famous and thus this caused trouble for the timeline. In the future, war tensions rising and conflict at an all time high. The Doctor would deduce what Maestro did and Timothy would be faced with a decision to keep his fame and risk the end of the world or give up his fame and just go back to being a nobody and after enough convincing from the Doctor to do the right thing, timothy reverses the deal with Maestro and traps them again. And all is well...Oh and the Beatles are famous again. Honestly I think going down this kind of "Trickster appoarch" of an episode would've been more cooler to seen imo. I think it would've been cool to see Timothy faced with a decision like his. That's just all thought I'd share, tell me what do you think.

2024.05.18 20:07 Signal_Expression730 Illumination Pictures Theory

I already published this theory a year ago, and now I'm republishing it because I understood how Reddit works better and where to publish my theories or ideas.
Moving on to the theory, it's based on the Pixar theory, about how all movies are in the same world, but in the case of Illumination Pictures, there's a lot more evidence, and most of it is in the movie Pets. In the park scene of the film, Gru appears in a cameo passing by with Kyle, which confirms that the two franchises are in the same world. Taking these two films as a basis, then we can say that the world of Illumination is a normal world, with a human society and animals cannot talk to humans but talk to each other, which also suggests that films like Migration and Hop, since there is a human society and, except for easter bunnies and easter chicks, animals can't talk.
Now, this comes into contradiction with other films produced by Illumination, such as Lorax and Sing, in the first they present us with a society without plants but which is slowly recovering, and in the second a society of anthropomorphic animals.
The answer is always given to us in Pets. When Kevin Hart's character drives the bus, you can see that there is a poster for "Sing" behind it, which tells us that it is a movie within that world, as is possibly the Lorax. I think this can also be applied to other films for which the rights do not belong to Illumination, but are lent by third parties, such as Doctor Seuss' wife or Nintendo.
To resume, here is the thing: There is a real world with a timeline (Minions in 1968, Minions 2 in 1976, Despicable Me in 2010, Hop in 2011, Despicable Me 2 in 2013, Pets in 2016, Despicable Me 3 in 2017, Pets 2 in 2019, Migration in 2023 and Despicable Me 4 in 2024) and there are some films that are films in this world (Lorax, The Grinch, Sing and Super Mario)

2024.05.18 16:56 Katasstic Can’t believe I’m saying this… (positive)

1.5 years ago I got the UTI of all UTIs. 2 rounds of antibiotics later, the pain was worse than ever. I also noticed other bodily things like malodour, floater in my eye, pririformis syndrome, dizziness, hair loss, and more. I didn’t have flares. I had 24/7 constant symptoms. Sometimes they were a level ten, sometimes lower, but bottom line is something felt “wrong” down there. I tried everything:
These all helped for the first few days I did them, and then before I knew it I was back in the exact same position. I effectively went completely and totally insane. I called off my wedding. I developed agoraphobia. I became someone I didn’t even recognize and I told my partner (we were newly engaged) to go on and live without me. My next options were bladder fulguration and, if that didn’t work, bladder removal. I’m so glad I didn’t do those before I discovered the below 👇🏼
So, what worked?
It turns out I didn’t have IC. It turns out I actually had something that’s extremely commonly misdiagnosed as IC, and that’s Tension Myoneural Syndrome (TMS for short).
It took me a while to believe it, a couple of months to be exact. In fact I scoffed it off for months and months. But I sit here to tell you I’m COMPLETELY and totally symptom & pain free, I’m eating everything I please just as I used to before, and I have every inch of my life back. There is not one thing I can’t do. In fact, my life is now BETTER than it ever was before I was diagnosed with “IC.”
My recommendations: 1. Get the Curable app. It’s called Curable for a reason. 2. Watch the “IC”/ pelvic pain success stories on Dan Buglio’s YouTube page. 3. Listen to the “IC”/pelvic pain success stories on Nicole Sachs’ “the Cure for Chronic Pain podcast”
Im not even a little bit afraid of the symptoms ever coming back because I now know exactly what they are and I know how to get rid of them.
I’m wishing you all healing and hope.

Open Range is Kevin Costner's return to the Western Genre, as a director after Dances with Wolves, and also a comeback, after a series of misfires during the 90s that included Waterworld and The Postman.
The movie revolves around Boss Spearman( Robert Duvall), an open range cattleman, and Charley Waite( Kevin Costner) a former Union soldier driving a cattle herd cross country. This brings them in conflict with the powerful rancher Denton Baxter( Michael Gambon) who controls the town of Harmonville, and hates the open rangers for using his land to feed their herds. When one of Spearman's associates Mose comes to town for supplies, he is jailed and beaten up by the corrupt marshall Poole(James Russo) that leads these two men into a conflict with Baxter.
However with the town completely under the iron fist of Baxter, no one is willing to back them, except Percy( Michael Jeter) a livery stable owner. There is also a romance between Charley and Sue Barlow( Annette Bening), the sister of the town's doctor.
While Costner has acted in various genres ranging from action thriller to sports dramas to romance to sci fi, the Western is one genre, where he seems to be particularly home at. Dances With Wolves is among my favorites to date, for a first time director, he pulls off a stunning epic, and the bison hunt scene has to be among one of the greatest ever movie scenes to date.
After the disaster of The Postman, he comes back right to form as a director and actor with this movie, way he captures the vast open plains of the Wild West, the action shots, the dramatic conflicts. While the story is very much a good guys vs bad guys one, it is Costner's narration that really makes it engaging.
Also the pairing with Robert Duvall, hits it off really well. Duvall is one actor on whom you could count to deliver in any kind of role, and he does that here too as the seasoned cattleman, trying to get the townsfolk to fight against the powerful rancher. Costner is equally good , as the Charley carrying the guilt of killing people. Annete Bening is as good as ever, and her romance with Costner has the right chemistry. Michael Gambon more famous as Albus Dumbledore in The Harry Potter series, is suitably nasty as the corrupt, ruthless rancher.
The camera work is as good as can be, capturing the wide open spaces, as well as the dark lit interiors, the rainy shots well. And an excellent music score by Michael Kamen.
If you are looking for a good old fashioned Western, that is engaging and well directed, go for this.

INTRODUCTION

This article is based on my chapter in Volume 2 of the 2022 book “A Greater Reality.” This compendium published and edited by Rey Hernandez can now be viewed without charge on the CCRI, Consciousness and Contact Research Institute’s web site, links provided at the end of this narrative.

A familiar statement by members of the public is, “I’ll believe in flying saucers when I see one.” As the saying goes, “Seeing is believing.” During my many years of contact activism, I have learned that “believing” can also lead to “seeing.” The aim of this report is to describe two important features of the contact experience. The first concerns how UAP intelligences shape encounters depending on the existing beliefs and expectations of contact experiencers. The second theme is that intelligences responsible for flying saucers employ what from a physicalist perspective is “illusion” as a mechanism of contact. I present a case in which both mechanisms were likely employed.

Readers of this blog please note the following: This narrative was originally conceived when I was writing about UFOs from within what can be called a “physicalist” or philosophical materialist’s perspective. This paradigm makes the metaphysical assumption that mass/energy is the wellspring of creation, and that mind/consciousness is merely a product of brain activity.

More recently with the assistance of my friend and publisher Rey Hernandez, I have increasingly viewed this physicalist assumption as flawed. If Consciousness is primary, not mass/energy then the psi mediated mechanisms of contact might be viewed as being closer to the wellspring of creation (and therefore perhaps more “real”) than the construct of our senses that we call “physical reality.”

My changing metaphysical views have been propelled in part by the “simulation hypothesis” that has gained some popularity within professional scientific circles. My growing acceptance of Consciousness being primary, and that the physical world is an illusion therefore compels me to view technologically based psi technology as creating “illusions” within the physical realm that could very well be an illusory simulated reality as well. In Eastern mystical traditions, the illusory nature of the physical world is called “Maya.”

THE CONSCIOUSNESS CONNECTION

It has been said that UAP intelligences are able to access experiencers’ consciousness as readily as you and I access light by turning on a wall switch. Among contact experiencers it is common knowledge that the so-called “aliens” are totally telepathic. In my opinion, such awesome power also allows them to readily access our entire storehouse of memories. This capability, when combined with their ability to create psi mediated “illusions”, enables them to co-create with us any kind of encounter that you and they can “co-imagine.”

THE PHENOMENON IS “REFLECTIVE”: THE RADICAL CONCEPTS INTRODUCED BY JOHN KEEL

John Keel,(1930- 2008) was a legendary UFO and paranormal researcher and author. He published over a dozen books. These include the “The Mothman Prophecies” (1975), that was made into a successful film starring Richard Gere. In 1966, Keel entered into an intense investigation of the flying saucer phenomenon. As part of this study, he read thousands of local newspaper articles on UFO sightings provided by clipping services. He travelled across the United States interviewing hundreds of witnesses. Keel coined the term MIB (Men In Black).

In 1967, after just one year of his intense field investigations, he abandoned the extraterrestrial hypothesis. He did so because of, “an astonishing overlap between psychic phenomena and UFOs...” Famous investigators like Dr. J. Allen Hynek and Dr. Jacques Vallee eventually came to similar conclusions. John Keel was one of ufology’s most controversial writers and his work still influences current debates about the nature of the flying saucer phenomenon.

Keel, in his classic book, “The Mothman Prophecies” discusses how flying saucer intelligence manipulated his own investigations in ways that reinforced his beliefs about what was going on. On page 111 he states,

“I was being led to people and cases to support whatever theory I was working on at the time. I tested this by inventing some rather outlandish ideas. Within days I would receive phone calls, reports, and mail describing elements of those ideas. This was the feedback or reflective effect. Other investigators concerned with solving problems such as how flying saucers are propelled have automatically been fed, or led into, cases in which the witnesses supposedly viewed the interiors of the objects and saw things which confirmed the investigators' theories. If the phenomenon can produce any effect through hallucination, it can easily support any theory.”

As a physician I prefer the term illusion rather than “hallucination” to describe the mechanisms involved in Close Encounters. Hallucinations, from the medical point of view, are manifestation of disease states and should not be applied to encounters with non-human intelligences in which the witnesses are generally not ill.

According to my analysis, psi-mediated technologically induced illusions are being presented to human subjects. This noted, I cannot over emphasize the importance of Keel’s above quote from “The Mothman Prophecies.” In addition, it is important to note that the reflective nature of the contact experience exists on both a societal as well as an individual level. Researchers John Keel, Dr. Jacques Vallee and others have aptly observed that the appearance of the UAPs reflect the cultural expectations of each historic period in which they have manifested.
Thus, to the ancient Chinese, they appeared as “dragons.” During the 1890s airship wave in the USA, they took on the appearance of Zeppelins that would be built a few years later. For the last sixty years, as we have gotten out into space, they are now thought of as “extraterrestrial.”

The following narrative is an example of an encounter that is both “illusory” as well as reflective of one’s own beliefs about what the phenomenon is “supposed to be.”

Mystery Helicopters in the Sepulveda Pass

During the mid 1990s, I was a Working Group Coordinator in Los Angeles for the CE-5 Initiative. This involved staging what I now call Human Initiated Contact Events (HICE). My contact team regularly travelled to remote locations in the high desert. There we used consciousness techniques such as meditation and thought projection to stage limited interactions with UAPs. To our surprise UFOs appeared not only during our fieldwork but also during everyday types of activities. These multiple data points helped me understand the psychic mechanisms used to engineer Close Encounters.

During the five years that I was a contact team leader, my sightings occurred, not only during fieldwork, but also in my West Los Angeles neighborhood. Some of the sightings demonstrated a flat two-dimensional quality. This made me suspect that they were not physical objects at all. Instead they appeared to be visual displays that were being produced by some kind of holographic technology. As the result of these encounters, I developed a new model incorporating the role of illusion as a mechanism of contact. I call this theory, The Virtual Experience Model.

The Virtual Experience Hypothesis

Virtual Experiences of the First Kind (VE-1) are illusory visual displays of structured objects or “alien” beings that typically convince witnesses that they are physical “craft” or “extraterrestrials” beings respectively.

Other categories include the psychic creation of a kind of virtual reality that produces a full sensory illusion that is convincingly real to the human subject. I designate this type as a VE-2.

The final major category is Virtual Experience of the Third Kind (VE-3). In this setting, artificial memories are implanted into the consciousness of the contact experiencer. Although the witness recalls seeing a non-human being or remembers going on-board an ET craft, according to this scenario no such event has actually transpired. The false memory does the job of convincing the witness that was happened was “real”, i.e., a physical event.

A HIGH LEVEL CONTACTEE JOINS THE TEAM

One member of our HICE/CE5 Los Angeles group was a high level contactee from the former Soviet Union. I refer to him as “Misha Goldman”, a pseudonym. He worked as an EKG tech in the Kaiser Hospital where I was employed. He was what you might describe as a “human UFO magnet.” As soon as he joined the group our level of contact, as measured by the appearances of UAPs, increased dramatically. I deemed it highly likely that he had direct telepathic communications with what contactees might call “friends in high places.”

Living just a few miles from Hollywood, “the entertainment capital of the world,” I thought that perhaps Misha’s boost to our contact efforts was analogous to how Hollywood describes climbing the ladder of success. “It’s not what you know, but who you know” that facilitates getting the next job as an actor, director or producer.

MISHA’S PROBLEMATIC SIGHTING OF A FLYING SAUCER & MYSTERY HELICOPTERS IN THE SEPULVEDA PASS

One Tuesday morning during Easter Week in 1994, Misha called me at home to describe a sighting that he had the previous evening. While driving on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley he reportedly saw a typical disc shaped UAP flying overhead. It was about 1000 feet up and approximately thirty feet across. Misha was not the only member of the team that was having sightings while driving, but what made this sighting highly unusual was that this saucer according to Misha was being chased by several military helicopters.

Based on my growing suspicion that some UFO sightings are illusory in nature, I told Misha that there were features of his sighting that were problematic. It is important to point out that the San Fernando Valley had a population in 1994 of about one million people. In addition, there are no major US military facilities located nearby. I told him that his assessment that the military helicopters were chasing an “alien craft” didn’t make much sense. The flight characteristics of some UAPs include their ability to fly circles around top performance military aircraft. Slow moving helicopters in pursuit mode would never be able to keep up with a “real flying saucer.” So, then what was going on?

Reverse Engineered Craft was not a likely Explanation

I suggested to Misha another possibility. What if the flying disc were a top-secret prototype military device? Then, perhaps the helicopters were escorting it rather than chasing it. This notion was reminiscent of the famous Cash-Landrum Incident in which supposedly a reverse engineered radioactive craft accompanied by US military helicopters injured several witnesses on the ground. However, there was a problem with this possible explanation. The densely populated San Fernando Valley was the least likely place for the authorities to test such a craft. Just imagine the uproar with thousands of witnesses if the saucer had to stage an emergency landing in a community of a million people. Prized government/corporate assets were better kept secure, way out in the desert where they might be secretly developed, and test flown.

I told Misha that the entire sighting might have been a kind of “theater of the mind production.” (This conversation occurred years before I coined the term Virtual Experience describing the role of illusion as a mechanism of contact.) Instead, I told Misha that the disc he had seen over the 101 might be the product of some kind of advanced alien “mind control” technology.

“Helicopters” vs Bizarre Visual Displays

After making this sweeping speculative analysis of Misha’s encounter on the phone, and feeling quite proud of myself at that, I said good-bye to my contact team buddy. I set off to work, driving on the 405 Freeway. I didn’t want to be late for the noon doctors’ meeting. Back in 1994 my department was still offering fresh donuts at conference and I didn’t want to miss my share.

So, there I was, driving through a sea of cars, on what seemed like a normal Tuesday afternoon. Or was it? As I reached the middle portion of the Sepulveda Pass, I noticed something a bit strange. Above the eastern rim of the canyon, I saw two military helicopters. This in and of itself was strange. There are no major military bases located near the City of Los Angeles. What was even more bizarre was that both choppers were vintage aircraft. One was an old Sikorsky, the kind first used in the Korean War. I recognized its typical large rounded nose with the cockpit located high up above the main cabin. The other was a Huey, a Bell UH 205, the standard workhorse helicopter of the Vietnam War.

I was immediately struck by the wild colors on both craft. The Sikorsky, instead of the standard military dark green was a brilliant candy color green. It looked like something out of a circus. The Huey appeared a bit more respectable. It was painted a darker olive color, but the bright green circle surrounded the US star insignia on the side of the craft just didn’t look right. Both helicopters were slowly moving back and forth above the over the canyon. They appeared to be no more than 200 feet above the rim. This was several hundred feet below the minimum altitude required by government regulations when flying over densely populated areas.

A Coincidence or an Example of what John Keel Would call the “Reflective Factor.”

I thought to myself, “This is very strange.” I have a conversation with Misha about his sighting possibly being a simulated visual display and then I am witness to craft that were fit for a carnival. I had specifically mentioned to Misha the notion that helicopters might be used as props in his sighting. Now I was witness to not one, but two bizarre “identified flying objects.”

Was this just an amazing coincidence, or was I being given a rather theatrical visual display similar to Misha’s? The sequence of events in retrospect suggests that the “reflective” aspect of UFO intelligence as described by John Keel was in effect. I had formulated a “belief” that the craft and helicopters from the previous night were illusory in nature, and as if to confirm my “pet theory” bizarre helicopters were flying overhead. Things got even stranger however. I wondered if Misha’s sighting was a kind of a test as to whether I would choose to attempt to interact with UFO intelligence.

On the chance that the choppers were psi mediated visual displays and not “physically real” and were produced by a telepathic non-human intelligence that might be able to communicate with me, I decided to “send out” a mental message of welcome. This, after all, was part of the contact protocols that I was employing during fieldwork. As my vehicle approached the top of the Sepulveda Pass, I was doing about 55 miles per hour. I watched the helicopters located now above me and to the right. They were still moving back and forth perpendicular to the freeway.

Human Initiated Contact Event: Was a Consciousness Connection Evident?

Not actually expecting a response from the craft overhead, I sent out a mental message of welcome. My 1983 Toyota Camry reached the crest of the Sepulveda Pass. The San Fernando Valley stretched out before me. As always, I took pleasure in the spectacular panoramic view. I accelerated as I headed down the hill into the Valley. To my surprise, I noticed that the Huey had broken away from the Sikorsky. It was headed my way! Just another coincidence?

The Huey was now above my vehicle, and I noticed that it was descending rapidly. It kept pace with me, flying just a few dozen yards out front. I had a perfect view of its underbelly through my windshield. The chopper leveled out at less than 100 feet above the roadway. I could hear the chopper’s engines, but they seemed quite muffled. The roar should have been deafening, but it wasn’t. My heart pounding, I continued to silently chant welcoming thoughts.

For about one mile, we traveled together. As we passed the Sepulveda Basin Dam, the Huey moved off to the west. I looked towards the walls of the reservoir, (a favorite “shoot site” for film crews.) The large concrete plaza in front the dam was totally deserted. Apparently, the choppers were not part of a Hollywood action movie being filmed on the spillway of the reservoir.

After the medical conference, I worked an evening shift in the ER. I then called Misha and told him about the helicopters in the Sepulveda Pass. Was the appearance of the helicopters an example of the “reflective aspect” as described by John Keel? Did I really have a contact experience while driving through the Sepulveda Pass? I suppose skeptics would reject any positive interpretation of the events as nothing more than “UFO fan club wishful thinking.” Coincidence might explain all. I should point out however that prior to this experience, I had never been buzzed by a helicopter while driving, never before and never since for that matter. It all might have occurred by chance. But I don’t think so!

A similar chopper, but with a bizarre paint job buzzed me on the 405 Freeway

I suppose skeptics would reject any positive interpretation of the events as nothing more than “UFO fan club wishful thinking.” Coincidence might explain all. I should point out however that prior to this experience, I had never been buzzed by a helicopter while driving, never before and never since for that matter. It all might have occurred by chance. But I don’t think so!
