sorry this is long. For context, I am 29 years old and have been dating my boyfriend (now fiancé) for 5 years. I have been wanting to move in for about 2 years but have held off due to the fear of my very controlling parents. There are a lot of positives to moving in and I have been staying at my fiancé's house on and off a couple days at a time- for years. Recently I have had a health condition that developed and I needed some extra support and have been staying over for a month. I wanted to wait to move in a couple months after our engagement so my parents could have some time to feel like we didn't just get engaged to move in with each other, but this new health scare has kinda put it into perspective for me and it now just makes more sense for us to do what we want to be happy.
For background my parents are from Central America with a lot of culture and religious beliefs. They raised us ( I have an older sister) to be christian (baptist) and fairly conservative with our upbringing- so to them this is an ultimate sin (besides getting pregnant before marriage and other religious stuff like that). I have really lived my entire life for them, doing what they want and have been a people pleaser because of it. My mom has narcissistic tendencies and I see a lot of the toxic as I grow older and have my own opinions and beliefs.
here are just some conditions they put on my fiancé to propose to me ( which he replied, he'd happily do whatever I wanted):
I honestly can't remember them all. and after I got engaged my mother said she "approved an engagement but not a wedding" *sigh*
So, I got the courage to finally do what I want and wrote a very respectful letter to my parents, asked them to meet with me and drove down with my fiancé (they live 3 hours away) to talk to them. They refused to speak to my fiancé because they wanted to speak to me alone, and that already had put me with a lot of stress because I wanted his support ( also as a secondary listener) to what my parents were saying to not be gaslit or anything. They say that my fiancé is not part of the family so he should not be involved ( mind you my sister had dated her husband for 10 years and they are now married...and they still say he is NOT FAMILY). My letter basically stated this is what I think is best for me at this stage in my life, I am not necessarily asking for their permission but I hope they can support me or at least respect it. That I know we have different beliefs and values and I understand their frustrations but I dont want to wait to live my authentic happy life.
also important to note: my mom has stated previously that I could live my life when they are dead *sigh*
anyways...clearly I feel like everyone knew that it wouldn't go great. and it didn't. I do think that we had an OK conversation and no one was yelling, we didn't agree and left it as that..and I left.
I woke up to this email (translated from Spanish):

“We just want to inform you about what we have decided based on your decision to move in with [fiancé] 1-Not only is it a great dissapointment for us your decision but more important it is a deep pain for both of us because we have based our life on raising them with good principles, morals, but above all obedience to God and what voice you plan to do is unpleasant in the eyes of God. 2-your dad says that if in the future you marry [ Fiancé name], he won’t deliver you like he did with your sister. 3- It makes me very sad that you use me as an excuse for what happened at your sisters wedding that were normal disagreements that were fixed But you only remember the negative. 4-economically you will no longer be helped, the goal of helping you is that you are not yet economically independent and that you do not feel the Pressure of Economically and that you didn’t feel the Move with someone on the roof, food, etc. to have a home with your parents. Your car insurance ends today, your phone line will be given to you until June so that you can transfer your data and information but by July we are going to disconnect your phone. 5-For holidays or when you want to come, you can come alone if you want, we don’t want to see [Fiancé name] because as a gentleman he is under the status of taken advantage of, and fake because if we had known that his intention was to move with you we would never have agreed to the commitment, he lied to us and deceived us. I don’t respect our values. Your dad says that we are not going to see you too, if you want you can come alone, and let us know when you are going to come. It is important that you know all this before you make the decision to go live with him and put yourself in a vulnerable situation. Think and meditate on everything well, so that later you don’t regret, a man’s manipulation towards a woman can be subtle but it is always manipulation.”

there's a lot to unpack here, and well with my sisters wedding it was defiantly not normal disagreements: my mom called her ugly, refused to walk down with certain people, berated her and stated she was marrying into "that family" and pretty much traumatized me of weddings ...but this post isn't about my sisters experience.
I am able to financially support myself ( they have just always offered) so I never felt like it wasn't an issue. Moving in would help with saving money for medical school, wedding etc. but its not the only reason we want to take this next step.
I have been basically left with the choice to either move in with my fiancé and my parents cut us off and my dad doesn't walk me down the aisle ( most hurtful part). or I don't move in, but the damage is done with my fiancé, and this will enable them to treat me poorly and think that they can control me for the rest of my life.
its always been hard for me to distinguish the toxic and abusive patterns of my parents because I am first generation American and that guilt alone is wild, as well as I know what my parents have sacrificed and came from to give me a better life. But this letter feels like they are willing to just cut ties for 1 decision I am making... and friends have asked why don't we just get married...my parents also said they won't approve a fast wedding and well...they don't want me married until after med school (5 years down the line).
so it really comes down to: can I live with myself if I cut my parents off? and I just don't know. AITAH or is it them?

Lost my hair...I'm trying to make it work
I had dyed my hair black and didn't like it, I used a "bleachless" dye remover, it said for my color it needed to be on there for 1 hour, at barely 20 minutes my wife freaked out and said it looked weird, first picture is the result of that, it literally bleached my hair, turns out it contains PEROXIDE?! awesome.
Bleached all my roots and then spent the next two days toning it, using red removers, purple shampoos and conditioner's but nothing worked, it was more even but was orange and the remover had destroyed most of my hair, in the end I had to cut it down to 2"(last picture), I actually like it now but I keep getting hit with waves of anxiety and sadness and I've got this pit in my stomach, I have always tied my feminity to my hair and now it's gone...idk.

Thank you guys for all your nice comments on my previous post! Here's my followup post walking through the anthology - I apologize for the delay, but I wanted to sit with this half of the album a bit longer. This analysis will be slightly different: first I’ll go through themes present throughout the anthology, and then walk through each song individually, since it’s not as consecutive of a story as the first album. As with my first analysis, I tend to also stay away from literal details as proof that a song is about a certain subject or muse – to me, it’s easier to understand the album when you think first about what the song’s overarching meaning is, rather than getting caught up in literal details (and I think Taylor often throws these in as red herrings). Moreover, it’s important to note that it’s likely that the literal detail she’s thrown in is one that only she and the muse will understand (i.e. her referencing a lilac skirt in imgonnagetyouback is unlikely to be one we’ve ever seen her wearing in public, so it’s useless to paternity test based on that detail!).
Firstly, the word anthology means a collection of assorted literary works. As a result, I think there are more themes scattered through this album, and it’s meant to be a little harder to parse than the first one. I think this album is what TTPD would have been before it crystallized into a tighter theme – similar to the 3 AM tracks for Midnights, the majority of which were written prior to the standard edition’s tracks.
There are a few themes throughout this album. From a romantic context, to me, this album is primarily about Joe. I’ll walk through why I believe that, but this album feels less muddled to me in terms of its muses, and I think that is in part due to the fact that her self-described mania from the standard edition is not a theme on the anthology. This work also covers her own relationship to celebrity and fame, and how that affects her romantic relationships and her personal life in general. And finally, I think the final theme throughout this collection is the idea of childhood, of formative experiences, and how our author goes about processing events that happen to her.
The Black Dog
What happens when you intimately know someone, when you share every aspect of your life with someone, and then it's over? Six weeks after their breakup, she’s barely holding it together (“I move through the world with the heartbroken”). She even tried to rebound her pain away (“I took the miracle move on drug, the effects were temporary”), and wasn’t able to succeed. Meanwhile, she sees him go to a bar, and she has the sudden realization that he may be able to do what she failed to do – he might be able to move on, with someone new. Reckoning with that realization is horrifying. If he is able to pull it off, what does that mean about the love they shared? When he had told her for years that he was who he was for her, and her alone?
You said I needed a bravе man
Then proceeded to play him
Until I believed it too
And it kills me
How could they go from being so intimate that they shower together, that she’s aware of his every move, to being so distant from each other that she wonders if making her fall in love with him was a hazing? And the cruelest part of it is – she doesn’t want either one of them to be able to move on, and give validity to the fact that they weren’t right for each other, even though she knows they have to. Moreover, she’s already *tried* to move on at this point, and failed – she tried to manufacture a counterfeit version of their intimacy, but what if he’s able to perfectly replicate it? And to really drive in the knife, what if it’s with someone younger than her?
And you jump up, but she's too young to know this song
That was intertwined in the magic fabric of our dreaming
Given that a theme throughout the first album was her feeling like she’d given him so much of her youth, so much of her childbearing years, with nothing to show for it, what does it feel like to know that he can essentially reset time, by being with a younger woman, but she’ll never be able to get that time back?
imgonnagetyouback
We know that her and Joe took a break or two while they were together (see: Hits Different, The Great War, in addition to PR articles). To me, this song is about when you do take that break from your partner, and you’re trying to make a point to them that they’re not going to find anyone better than you (I can tell when somebody still wants me, come clean) – the two of you are too intimately intertwined to find a suitable replacement. You know what to wear, what to say, what to do to bring them back to you:
I, I hear thе whispers in your eyes
I'll make you wanna think twice
You'll find that you were never not mine
This song also has a lot of similarities to So Long, London, which is why I attribute it to Joe. To me, it provides a deeper story to some of the lines she touches on in So Long, London:
I didn't opt in to be your odd man out
I founded the club she's heard great things about
And to some of the lines in Hits Different:
I washed my hands of us at the club
You made a mess of me
I pictured you with other girls in love
Then threw up on the street

Bet I could still melt your world
Argumentative, antithetical dream girl
imgonnagetyouback is a story of one-upmanship – of trying to out-jealous your partner, of proving to them that nobody knows them better than you do. And maybe this time when they’re both playing this game, it works:
Push the reset button, we're becomin' something new
Say you got somebody, I'll say I got someone too
Even if it's handcuffed, I'm leavin' here with you

We broke all the pieces, but still wanna play the game (Oh)
Told my friends I hate you, but I love you just the same
Pick your poison, babe, I'm poison either way
The spacing to me is a deliberate red herring (the 1975 very famously made a song called fallingforyou), and a way to illustrate that the subject of the song wants space from her – but she’s not going to give it to him. This is another theme that calls back to Joe – in So Long, London, she describes him as constantly pulling away (Pulled him in tighter each time he was driftin' away). Matty didn’t pull away – he was all in for two weeks, until he chose to ghost her, and leave abruptly. There was no slow death, no push and pull to her relationship with Matty – it was a meteoric rise and fall.
The Albatross
This song feels like a sister song to “peace” – she describes what it’s like to love her. It’s a little more twisted, however, as she describes her love for her partner as both a danger, and a rescue from the danger she’s imposing on him by being involved with him:
Wise men once said
"Wild winds are death to the candle"
A rose by any other name is a scandal
Cautions issued, he stood
Shooting the messengers
They tried to warn him about her
She’s described herself as wind and liquor in her relationship with Joe previously, in Mastermind:
I'm the wind in our free-flowing sails
And the liquor in our cocktails
She has empathy for the narrator, but disdain for herself. There’s also acceptance though: she knows that she tried to prevent it, and tried to warn him about the danger she posed. In the end though, he chose this life with her, and he chose the danger – there’s only so much she can protect him from.
The devil that you know
Looks now more like an angel
I'm the life you chose
And all this terrible danger
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus
This song feels like another sister song to The Black Dog – how does she cope with the idea that her long-time partner might move on? How does she cope with the fact that if she chooses to leave, she also chooses the future in which they both move on? A future in which they don’t know each other? It also touches on her wondering if she should move on with Matty, and how feasible it would be to know someone else instead of her partner:
If you want to tear my world apart
Just say you've always wondered
This song, more than anything else, illustrates that moving on with Matty was nothing but a way to move past Joe – what she really wants, more than anything, is a response greater than indifference from Joe:
As the decade would play us for fools
And you saw my bones out with somebody new
Who seemed like he would've bullied you in school
And you just watched it happen
There’s also the realization that Joe may never love who she is now – who she was at the beginning of their relationship will always be who he prefers:
If you want to break my cold, cold heart
Just say, 'I loved you the way that you were'
She’s trying desperately to find some way to make up for the fact that she had to leave Joe, that there was nothing she could do to stay – she tried changing everything about herself, but still, the need to leave him eventually caught up with her:
I changed into goddesses, villains and fools
Changed plans and lovers and outfits and rules
All to outrun my desertion of you
And you just watched it
And she wonders whether despite his indifference, and the distance between them, she should still stay:
Could it be enough to just float in your orbit
Can we watch our phantoms like watching wild horses
Cooler in theory but not if you force it
To be, it just didn't happen
But now, they are merely ghosts of who they once were – it’s not possible to force the relationship anymore.
How Did It End?
When a long-term relationship ends, you can point to the factors that led to its demise: a difference of opinions on money, on marriage, on children, and so forth. It is easy to determine the “what” and the “why” of an ending. But what is harder to diagnose is how you both became the versions of yourselves that weren’t on the same page, that were unable to discuss these topics, that couldn’t move past these dilemmas. That is much, much harder to pinpoint, and this is the question Taylor asks in this song. She knows what killed them:
We hereby conduct this post-mortem
He was a hot house flower to my outdoorsman

We were blind to unforeseen circumstances
We learn the right steps to different dances (ohh)
And fell victim to interlopers' glances
Lost the game of chance, what are the chances?
But what she still doesn't know is how it happened – how did it end? She also finds the empathy from the media and from the public to be false and selfish – they only want to know what happened to feverishly spread the news like wildfire.

The empathetic hunger descends
We'll tell no one
Except all of our friends
We must know
How did it end?

Smug 'cause they know they can trust him

What the feeding frenzy wants more than anything is gossip, and they don’t care that she is utterly lost – lost as to why this happened, and lost physically and mentally:
Guess who we ran into at the shops?
Walking in circles like she was lost
How does she give an answer to quell the empathetic hunger, when she herself doesn’t understand exactly how it happened?
So High School
In an album that touches so much on feeling like she’s running out of time to have the future that she wants, and running out of youth to give the various men who come into her life, it is interesting and heartwarming that the song about Travis on the anthology is one that describes being with him as regaining her youth:
The brink of a wrinkle in time
Bittersweet sixteen suddenly
Moreover, another detail to note in this song is the difference in how she describes alcohol and drugs – in nearly every other song on TTPD, alcohol is a vice she uses in her moments of despair, and drugs are what her previous partners turn to in their moments of strife (she also describes the influence of drugs on her partners as something she detests – “sinking in stoned oblivion” and “you needed me but you needed drugs more”). With Travis, she’s not imbibing in any substances – instead, his thoughts and jokes are enough for her:
I'll drink what you think, and I'm high
From smoking your jokes all damn night
Travis is giving her back her youth, making sober promises, and the impression that we get is that they’re building this dreamlike reality together – it’s wholesome, all-American, and high-school-inspired, yet still grounded in something tangible, unlike the promise of fate and destiny, which powered her relationship with Joe and her entanglement with Matty.
I Hate It Here
More than anything, I think this song illustrates how Taylor sometimes uses escapism and maladaptive daydreaming to ignore the reality of the situation she’s dealing with. She recognizes that it’s not possible to stay where she is, locked inside this prison of stagnation and boredom:
If comfort is a construct
I don't believe in good luck
Now that I know what's what
She recognizes that this isn’t what she used to be, and that she never intended to choose this life of secrecy, perhaps alluding to all those years she spent “locked inside her house”:
You see I was a debutante in another life but
Now I seem to be scared to go outside
She describes herself as finding hope in the places her mind creates (seemingly alluding to her creation of characters and places for folklore and evermore):
I hate it here so I will go to
secret gardens in my mind
People need a key to get to
The only one is mine
I read about it in a book when I was a precocious child
And her escapism into her past, and imaginings of what could have been:
I hate it here so I will go to
Lunar valleys in my mind
When they found a better planet
Only the gentle survived
I dreamed about it in the dark
The night I felt like I might die
All throughout the song, there’s recognition that she doesn’t want to be here – she doesn’t want to feel as if the only place she can be free is in these imaginary worlds she creates. But there’s also concession – is she perhaps only destined for an eternal consolation prize? For loneliness? For imagined romanticism? For the fantasy of how she imagined her life and her love to be?
I'm lonely but I'm good
I'm bitter but I swear I'm fine
I'll save all my romanticism for my inner life and I'll get lost on
purpose
This place made me feel worthless
Lucid dreams like electricity, the current flies through me,
and in my fantasies I rise above it
And way up there, I actually love it

This song, along with a few others in the latter half of the anthology, discusses the loss of innocence she felt in key moments of her life. This one quite obviously alludes to Kim Kardashian, and their infamous feud. I will make a separate post on this, but I think people describing this song as petty may not remember the depth of the hate aimed at Taylor in 2016. Kim and Kanye organized a revenge porn music video for Famous, and held a museum exhibit so that people could take pictures with the naked dolls. The night the snapchat videos were released, every Kardashian family member descended upon social media to gleefully celebrate the #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty. The amount of hate Taylor got was so unprecedented that Instagram actually built their comment filtration system because of this incident. It really was that bad.
And every baby step Taylor took (for example, even just posting that she had a good 2017 was met with immediate media backlash) was quite literally mocked across the internet. People thought the reputation era was cringey, that she was over, and that she deserved everyone’s ire because she was “proven” to be a liar. She describes this in the song:
Each time that Aimee stomped across my grave
And then she wrote headlines in the local paper
Laughing at each baby step I'd take
And it was always the same searing pain
But the whole time, despite the pain and blood, she was dreaming of the day that she would heal, and dreaming of the day that she would climb her way back to to the mountaintop:
And our town, it looks so small from way up here

So I pushed each boulder up that hill
Your words were still just ringing in my head, ringing in my head
What still irks her though, is that this bully who created this entire hate train and organized her downfall will pretend as if it never happened – she will undoubtedly reframe things to make our subject seem overdramatic, petty, and unable to move past the incidents of years ago. Taylor, however, has always been clear about one thing: sometimes, no amount of time can heal you from something that deeply traumatized you.
I Look in People’s Windows
This song to me feels like a sister song to The Black Dog, but a few months after the official end of a relationship. A sub theme that runs through Taylor’s songs about the Joe breakup is the loss of being understood – when you are no longer with a long-term partner, how do you cope with the fact that you move the world knowing everything about this person, but at the same time, not knowing them anymore? Would you peek into their windows just to get a glimpse of what their life looks like now? As anyone who has gone through a breakup knows, the hardest part is often not being privy to the mundane details of that person’s world – their dinner parties, their wine, their friends, and so on.
I look in people's windows
Transfixed by rose golden glows
They have their friends over to drink nice wine
I look in people's windows
In case you're at their table
What if your eyes looked up and met mine
One more time
The Prophecy
The prophecy is devastating. More so than any other song Taylor has ever written, it is full of desperation and longing. All she asks for is to be known, to be understood – to not be perceived as an idea of a woman, or a starlet with no humanity:
Please
I've been on my knees
Change the prophecy
Don't want money
Just someone who wants my company
Let it once be me
Who do I have to speak to
About if they can redo
The prophecy?
It’s striking especially considering how much she laments that leaving Joe means she’s giving up being known – it’s also striking given the fact that in the epilogue poem, she states that neither Joe or Matty ever truly knew her:
He never even scratched the surface
of me.
None of them did.
What she desires beyond fame, beyond notoriety, beyond money, is to be loved and to be known. The song also alludes to her being in therapy, and to finding some sort of consolation that she will find someone to share her life with:
I'm so afraid I sealed my fate
No sign of soulmates
I'm just a paperweight
In shades of greige
Spending my last coin so someone will tell me
It'll be ok
Cassandra
This track is a sister song to ​​thanK you aIMee, and continues exploring the theme of fraught public womanhood we see in Clara Bow and Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me. In this song, Taylor discusses how the validation of women is never publicized in the way that the crucifixion of them is:
When the first stone's thrown, there's screaming
In the streets, there's a raging riot
When it's "Burn the bitch, " they're shrieking
When the truth comes out, it's quiet
Moreover, when women speak up about an issue, they’re often viewed as overdramatic, and unserious. Cassandra, in Greek mythology, was cursed by Apollo to always predict the future accurately, but never be believed. We see this happen every day to women in politics, in the media, and in pop culture:
So, they killed Cassandra first 'cause she feared the worst
And tried to tell the town
So, they set my life in flames, I regret to say
Do you believe me now?
And for Taylor, it’s reminiscent of all the times she’s been the first to speak out about something in the industry – for example, against Scooter Braun and his well-established pattern of bullying, or of the exploitation of artists on streaming services – but never been supported broadly by her peers. They believe her later, but at that point, very few people give her the credit for speaking up in the first place. It’s reminiscent of the Kimye scandal. When the news broke originally, the hatred she received was widespread. But when she was acquitted by the long-form video that leaked, it didn’t receive anywhere near the level of coverage that the original scandal received.
Peter
Peter is another song that touches on both the male muses for this album, and in turn, on the promises various men have given her over her life (we’ll circle back to this in The Manuscript!). It also touches on the theme of waiting that’s seen throughout this album, especially on her songs about Joe – how much time is enough time to give?
Both Matty and Joe were 25 when they met her, and it’s abundantly clear that both men made promises to her: promises of marriage, of children, and of a future. But how long can she wait for these promises to be fulfilled? To Joe, she gives six years of her life and youth, and to Matty, she gives him a chance to prove that he was reformed from the time she knew him last: both men eventually fail. Neither man is ready to give up their childish whims, and she has no choice but to lose hope that either of them ever will.
And you said you'd come and get me but you were 25
And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired
Lost to the lost boys chapter of your life
Forgive me Peter, please know that I tried
To hold onto the days when you were mine
But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light
Another thing to note is the interesting double meaning of the song title. To peter also means to diminish gradually – much like her faith in both men’s promises.
The Bolter
A lot of the songs Taylor has written about Joe in this album deal with the question of “when is the right time to leave?” When you know that things are stagnant, and you know that you’ve given everything you have to a relationship, you know that you have to leave – but it’s easy to convince yourself if you have a history of “leaving before you get left” that you should ride out this wave, and that this pain might just be temporary.
The Bolter, to me, reflects on Taylor’s history – it seems like she prided herself on being able to see the warning signs, and being able to get out in time.
She's been many places with
Men of many faces
First, they're off to the races
And she's laughing drawin' aces
But, none of it is changin'
That the chariot is waitin'
Hearts are hers for the breakin'
There's an escape in escaping
It’s relevant to TTPD, because likely, she saw not bolting as a sign of growth and maturity. You know that you’ve grown as a person when you don’t abandon ship at the first sign of trouble, but what if there are so many signs of trouble that the truly mature thing to do would be to leave?
Robin
Robin leads into this theme of childhood and innocence that we see further in The Manuscript. The track name is also the name of Aaron Dessner’s child. She ponders how beautiful and sweet it is that we work so hard to protect childhood naivete:
Strings tied to levers,
slowed down clocks tethered,
all this showmanship
To keep it, for you,
In sweetness
And there’s an element of wistfulness to it – don’t we sometimes wish that we could also be protected from the worst the world has to offer?
You have no room in your dreams for regrets
You have no idea
The time will arrive for the cruel and the mean
You'll learn to bounce back just like your trampoline
But now we'll curtail your curiosity
The Manuscript
This song is perhaps the most climactic song on the album. It covers her romantic history up until that point, and starts at the moment she feels everything went awry – and it predates Joe and Matty. Instead, it calls back to the first time she experienced a proper heartbreak, and the first time she lost her childlike innocence in the world – her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal (a time she described as her transition from childhood to womanhood). She describes how they compared licenses, and how he told her that if they had sex, and it was as good as the conversation was, then they would get married, and have a family. LLMs are not (as far as we know) inherently evil constructs. They seem to be neutral tools that reflect the intentions of their creators and users. That said, as with social media, we may come to regret the technology and wish to fling it back into Mordor's fire.

DISCLAIMER: This theory will go over the entire story of Platinum End, so obvious spoilers ahead.Just a heads up, this theory is posted at the time that only a few episodes of the anime have been released. If you’re like me, the ending completely caught me off guard and left my head-scratching. Do not worry! I’ve overanalyzed everything and made a theory to possibly explain who god and those beings at the end of the story are, so you don’t have to. Those beings at the end of the manga, chapter 58, are drum roll…humans of the future who have achieved many scientific advancements who existed well before the story of Platinum End takes place and are simulating their own world with fake humans, fake angels, and a fake god. Why are the real humans running this simulation? Simply put, they’re suicidal and no amount of therapy is going to help with that. Why are they wanting to die? In the future, it is predicted by Gaku Yoneda that within 500 years, humans will achieve immortality. Once they achieve immortality, they will eventually master time and space and will be able to do things like teleport, time travel, see the future, etc. And once humans achieve immortality and are able to know all of the future, they will discover that the future cannot be changed according to Dr. Yoneda. Just like Dr. Yoneda’s prediction, the real humans are wanting to die which is why it’s stated by one of the real humans how annoying it is that there is no death. Whatever the process was that made the real humans immortal, it seems that it cannot be reversed to restore one’s mortality. Although it’s not stated how humans will achieve immortality and allow them to control time and space, this will somehow cause humanity’s apocalypse as well, destroying the original Earth. What makes these creatures more human-like than god-like is that they admit they were born on another planet, most likely the original Earth. They are also aware that they too were created by something that is above them. How do we know Dr. Yoneda’s predictions are right? It was stated by Shuji Nakaumi that his past predictions came true. One thing to understand about science is that it’s extremely good at accurately predicting things. Example 1: With Issac Newton’s law of motion, scientists can predict the position of an object at any specific time, past, present, or future. Example 2: In the 1840s, Fitzner astronomer Urbain Le Verrier was analyzing the orbit pathway of Mercury and found that it is changing very slowly over time. With technology limited at that time, it was hard to provide proof. In 1915, the famous German physicist, Albert Einstein was able to calculate the influence of the curved space in Mercury’s orbit. That is 75 years later that science proved its prediction was right. Although science cannot tell future events like a psychic will attempt to, I believe this is what the author was using to help advance the plot for the ending. The real humans already know the future and they’re aware that no matter what they try, death is not a part of that. If they cannot do it, someone else can. That is when these simulations come in. The real humans will create simulated humans. In one of the simulations, the story of Platinum End takes place. This would not be on a computer. This process would involve terraforming an entire planet to support carbon-based life. The planet that the simulated humans live on will be similar to the original Earth as well as the history and advancement of science will be similar to the real humans. As the simulated human’s society progresses, like in Platinum End, they would eventually learn how to become immortal and learn how to control space-time which would lead to them wanting to die just like the real humans. But unlike the real humans, the simulated ones may actually achieve a way to kill themselves once they obtain immortality that the real humans could use. But as we already know stated by the real humans, this specific simulation was a failure. Nothing was created that was capable of killing them. Thus, the real humans will move on to a new simulation. Pay very special attention to this picture. Notice right after all of the humans disappear when the fake god kills himself, the buildings are slowly crumbling away since no one is here to maintain them. According to World Building, it would take an average of 250 years for a building to start to break apart since materials like wood and plastic would be destroyed by the environment if not maintained. Metal would be expanding and no longer able to keep the building's structure in place. This would cause things like windows to fall off and shatter. So after a few hundred years, the real humans return to the planet after the simulated humans disappeared due to the fake god’s suicide. It’s possible that during this time they’re running other simulations on other planets and returned when this simulation was completed. Since the real humans have achieved master over space-time, teleporting to anywhere in the universe would not be out of the question. Since they cannot die, the amount of time it would take for the real humans to travel anywhere in the universe is irrelevant as well. Even though Gaku Yoneda’s predictions about the simulated humanity’s end were wrong, he was technically right. It did come true for the real humans. If Shuji Nakaumi, as the fake god, did not kill himself and wipe out all of the fake humans, they would of most likely learned how to cheat death and to control space-time in the future. Gaku was wrong about the fake god being a product of human belief in order to live. He even admits that the composition of the fake god was wrong. If the fake god required human belief to live, then Shuji would not have erased the memories of those who were not god candidates as it would have affected the fake god's existence if fewer people believed in him. There is one thing that begs the question. Why is a fake god needed to run these simulations? Why do the simulated humans have souls? Why not just create the simulated humans and leave them to figure out how to create an immortal killing machine without the process of a false god? This is because God and souls are actually real and are necessary for life to exist. To clarify, the “God” that Shuji Nakaumi was transmuted into is not the true God that I’m referring to. I’m referring to the first cause of everything, a self-aware creator, a deistic God who existed before time and space who created the universe and does not intervene in its creation. This means no miracles, prophecy, answering prayers, divine revelation, etc. Everything in the universe is governed by physics and these laws cannot be broken. The real humans who are running the simulations are aware that they are a creation made from a creator. However, since a deistic God does not interfere in the universe, the real humans cannot know of him, at least while they are still alive. Considering the real humans can control space-time, I can say for certain at one point, at least one person went to the very beginning of time and saw something that would be evidence of an intelligent designer creating the universe. When the real humans are conversing with each other at the finale, one human suggests identifying what created them and the second one replies that seeking their creator will be a waste of time. If a deistic God won’t intervene in its creation, the real humans would be wasting time by attempting to contact him. Even though they can control space-time, if the creator exists outside of reality, they would not be able to reach this entity. Focusing on figuring out who created them means that time is wasted if they're not figuring out how to die which is why it would take them further away from death. Just as the simulated humans have souls, the real humans also have souls. At some point, the real humans discovered the soul. They are aware that this is needed for life to be sentient. The discovery of the soul could have played a key part in the real humans achieving immortality. The fake god is engineered by the real humans to create souls so that life can be sentient, mimic the universe's deistic God by allowing the simulation to run with no interference, and act as a mod to keep an eye on life with the red and white arrows. The celestial realm was created so the fake god would not be a part of the simulated world. Even though time moves differently in the celestial realm, it is the closest thing that the real humans can engineer to simulate a deist God that is separated from its creation. This fake god does not have the powers of a supreme being. The fake god does not know everything, is not everywhere at once, and does not display any sort of omnipotent ability. There is a lot of things that the fake god admits to not knowing, such as who created him, why are souls preserved, and how long does the merging process take. Although we do see the fake god have the ability to observe humanity, I would say that this is the equivalent of having admin privileges to watch humanity live-streamed on YouTube. The fake god is aware that he is created by someone. The fake god noticed that there are things that had already been created that he was not a part of just by observing everything in the universe. Although he seems to not understand what created him. He even acknowledges the idea that humanity could have created him. All the simulated souls come from the fake god. This is done through a process of emanation, which means to flow from. In the Abrahamic religions, specifically Gnosticism, Jewish Mysticism, and certain sectors of Protestantism, instead of your typical creator being separate from its creation, everything is a spontaneous outflow from God. As pieces of God emanate from him, it becomes less divine, but these pieces will eventually become an individual soul that forms into human spirits, angels, demons, as well as other things that come into reality such as heaven, hell, and the world of the living. Eventually, everything that came from God, will return back to the creator. (If you’re still confused on what emanation is, I would do more research before continuing to read as this will play a key role in understanding who the fake god is.) Emanation is how the fake god created the simulated human and their soul, the fake angels, and the celestial realm. The fake god took a piece of himself and used it to create life. Since everything emanates from the fake god is connected to him, as he is dying, most of the angels are dying too. Due to this connection, when the fake god killed himself, everything that was tied to the fake god disappeared. But because the creation of the fake god is not connected to the physical world, the planet and everything that is not life remained on it. When the simulated human beings die, the soul goes to the celestial realm. This is the returning aspect of emanation. The souls that came from the fake god are returning back to him. You always see all angels, regardless of rank, having the task of carrying the souls to the celestial realm. It seems that the main purpose of the angels is to help with the return part of the emanation process. The more that the emanence is divided, the less divine it becomes. This is why the fake humans are considered sub-celestial in the hierarchy.It appears that there is a certain order to the flow of emanation. The newest creations emanate from the fake god. Kids will be the first in the line for the emanate process and their parents will be behind them. This is why when the fake god committed suicide, the kids were the first ones to disappear, then the adults. All things that emanate from the fake god are returning to the original source in reverse order when the fake god takes his own life. When the fake god merges with a human, this appears to go against the set pattern of the emanation process by breaking the order in which the emanence flows. This is why when Shuji merged with the fake god, it felt like there was something foreign in the fake god's body similar to how an infected person's body acts when the immune system detects foreign bacteria or a virus. The only way to get around it is by the fake god merging with a simulated human and having the fake god take over the new body when the fusion is completed. It is stated by the fake god that it is nothing more than humanity's assumption that God cannot die. This may be true for the deistic God, but not for a fake god. It is already known that the real humans achieved immortality. Although the fake god could have been engineered to be immortal, that would just create another being who would eventually want to die. The fake god was designed to live a long life, compared to humans, that could be extended through the process of merging with one of its emanated counterparts until the simulation was completed. This has been done throughout time in the form of the god choosing process. The fake god confirmed to Shuji that his purpose was to create life. Professor Yoneda confirmed that the fake god was created by human imagination and that its purpose was to end life. On the surface, this may seem like a contradiction. But both of them are right. The fake god’s purpose was to create the simulated humans. God is metaphorically a creation of human imagination. It was not by the simulated human’s imagination as stated by Yoneda, but it was designed and engineered by the minds of the real humans. Since the purpose of the simulation is for the fake humans to achieve immortality and figure out how to reverse it, you can say that the fake god is a part of that process of killing humanity. Right as all of the humans are disappearing, Dr. Yoneda realizes that the composition that makes up the creature is based on a science that the simulated humans have not discovered yet. The composition of the fake god is Aether. In medieval times, a common study among scholars is alchemy, which can be best described as the forerunner for modern-day chemistry mixed with the pseudoscience of metaphysics. According to Charles Gillispie, a historian at Princeton University, in his book, The Edge of Objectivity, An Essay in the History of Scientific Ideas, Aether is the fifth element, along with earth, wind, fire, and water, that are the basic building blocks of the universe. During medieval times, Aether is the substance that is believed to connect the physical world to the spiritual one. It was even a common belief that the Abrahamic God was surrounded by Aether and that all of the angels, demons, and souls that dwelled in the afterlife breathed it in as humans breathed in the air. According to Jakob Bernoulli, a mathematician from the 1600s, believed that Aether is what allowed souls to interact with their human bodies. All of these characteristics of Aether match the composition of the fake god. Aether is what allows life to become sentient, connecting all of the simulated humans back to the fake god from the physical world to the celestial realm. It seems at some point, the real humans discover this element. This discovery most likely led to the discovery of the soul. Using this element, the real humans used Aether to construct the fake god needed for the simulations. Everything that is a part of the simulation, the fake god, angels, the soul, the arrows, is made up of this element. The red arrow is what allows the god candidates to make other humans fall in love with them so much that the person who is under the influence of the arrow will do literally anything the person who is in control wants, even die for them. The white arrow has the ability to kill any life while all inanimate objects are unaffected. These were limits placed on the arrows by the fake god. According to Ogaro, the fake god can use the full power of the arrows at will. The red arrow is more than just making someone fall in love. The arrow does this by taking away their free will. The god candidates were limited to using the arrow on 14 people at once for a period of up to 33 days. With the fake god able to use the full power of the red arrow, he can enslave any or all simulated humans with a snap of his finger for as long as he desired. The red arrow also played a role in creating the first simulated life as well. The fake god stated that if life was left alone, it would multiply. The desire of falling in love and wanting to procreate was implanted by the red arrow when life was created. The white arrow is the opposite of the red arrow. This arrow can kill life instantly. The limit that was placed on this arrow is that only one white arrow can be shot at a time. Just like the red arrow, this arrow has a maximum range of 31.6 meters. When cycling the white arrow, there is a cool down period of 0.3 seconds. If these limiters are removed, the fake god can kill all humans with the white arrows with virtually no limit on distance, any number of arrows can be used simultaneously, and there would be no mandatory cool down period. The creation of the simulated humans involves two key ingredients. The first is the soul which comes from the fake god. The second is a physical body for the soul to be attached to. The real humans asked if it was worth planting another seed and another god as those are two separate things. The making of another god is obviously the fake god. But what is the seed? The seed is what makes the physical embodiment of all plants and animals that all emanence is attached to. I.E., souls attached to bodies. According to the fake god, before he created life on the fake Earth, there was some sort of micro-organism. This seed would be that micro-organism, specifically carbon-based bacteria that is capable of evolution. Around 3 billion years ago, the first life on Earth was bacteria. There are two types of bacteria, a classification of anaerobic bacteria that ate other organic compounds and simple sugars to survive. The other kind is autotrophs bacteria which is capable of self-feeding. Anaerobic bacteria would evolve into modern-day animals. Autotroph bacteria would evolve into modern-day plants that still have the ability to self-feed through a process of photosynthesis. It is possible to send bacteria through space. According to a 2020 study published in the Journal of Frontiers in Microbiology, bacteria were able to survive in space for three years. If the real humans were able to transport the seed through space in less than 3 years, it could easily survive. Considering they achieved immortality, it is within reason to think this would be a piece of cake for them. At some point, part of the anaerobic bacteria would come in contact with the fake god, who was on the fake Earth at that time to make life, recognized the fake god as food, and attempted to feed off of him to survive. The bacteria that fed off the fake god would eventually evolve into Nasse. The bacteria that did not feed off of the fake god would evolve into more complex forms of life on the fake Earth. Since Nasse was accidentally created from this event, it most likely means that she is the first angel that the fake god created. The top has a sweetheart neckline with soft white lace that balances just above her cleavage line. Her clavicle is decorated with a single floating pearl. No shoes, hair untamed and free..she's smiling and there's warm.sunshine behind her. The grass is soft and cool beneath her feet, the scent is sweet like summertime honeysuckle in the breeze.
A gentle rain taps a rhythm and the wheat slithers as the trees hum. As she walks, each step she takes leaves a footprint of life. Shes not afraid anymore. Shes under an elephant leaf and she's only about 1 inch tall. A large black hole looms in front of her. Shes always been afraid of it. But not this time.
She walked right up to the edge and knowingly plunged into the unknown with confidence. As she swirled into fractals of existence she collided back into herself, falling into a paradox of her own consciousness. She clawed at the sides of the well she fell into and then she saw a rope. The rope wiggled at her as if inviting her to grab on. She grabs the rope and she's pulled into a hallway that has 13 rooms. She looks st the wall where the keys are stored and there are 13 keys available.
She's acutely aware that she's being offered a choice. But this Luna is smarter then past versions she request knowledge if what lie behind each door. They key all turn glowing gold. She takes the keys and places them on a keyring that is stored with the keys. She opens door number 1 first....

About two years ago I had my first real suicidal thoughts. I was on parental leave with my two kids for a long time. I had this feeling then that suicide was now “real” and that I would be visited by these thoughts again and again. Like they had transitioned from a concept to a real thing that might happen to me.
I have thought suicide since then, but today is the first time it has been as real as it was those days wheee my mind is spiraling around this concept and I’m posting on here. Something very small triggered this and that’s why it is so scary.
I had a small fight with my wife. We were swimming in the river in my favorite place with the kids. We were playing on a rock in the middle of the river and I pushed her in after we horses around a bit. When she came up out of the water she was really mad and I was so shocked by that. We had been laughing horsing around just seconds before. She has every right to get mad if she didn’t want to be pushed in. The point I guess is just that I wasn’t expecting it at all. I thought we were all on cloud 9.
As soon as she came up out of the water and I could see she was mad my heart started to plummet. After a few minutes of not being able to make it better I was already in a totally emotionless state, just getting ready to survive the rest of the day. Is this dissociating? I never really understood that term.
She was mad for about an hour and we stopped swimming and drove home. After an hour she was done being mad and wanted to go about the rest of our day and accepted my apology and acted like nothing was wrong. Probably nothing was wrong.
But for me, things just continued to plummet. On the car ride home during that hour internally I was just in complete free fall like a planet crashing. On the outside I was just hyper focusing on driving smoothly all the way home. My secret desire would be that she would fall asleep so I would feel more alone and safe to openly feel bad in the car.
We had to take our girls to a birthday party after this. I just continue to plummet internally. On the way home we stopped to buy a present while the girls slept in the car. My wife went in the store and I sat in the car and researched self harm and cutting.
At the party I talked nicely to the other parents at the party and even joked and played with the kids. Even made plans for more river swimming next weekend with some of the other parents. I had found a rubber hair tie in the car and I occasionally found a quiet corner at the party to snap my skin with it.
We watched a movie with the girls when we got home. We always watch a movie on Saturday night. My wife leaned against me, but I wanted to physically recoil.
I put the girls to bed and pretended to sleep to avoid my wife. I started researching suicide for the first time in two years.
I don’t understand why when I am in a very happy mood, like today when we were swimming in my favorite place and out in nature, that some small criticism or fight can completely ruin it. It’s not just like we were having fun swimming and that one bad thing happened. To me it is like the entire positive emotion of the situation is multiplied by negative 1. Instead of the happiest I have been in a long time, I am at the lowest I have been in a long time.
I also feel this feeling like, if I thought my wife would be happy from our play but was sad, do i really understand her at all? Maybe every time I have been having fun she has been suffering. Maybe I have been delusional and I am really completely alone in my own world with my imaginary concept of her. In reality there is a huge gap between us.
When I feel this way I get this feeling that I am 100% disconnected from her. I feel like a stranger in my own family or that I am living with a stranger. I want to avoid her and don’t want to show any emotion to her or look her in the eye. It can take days to recover from this feeling of absolute separation.
Anyway, I just needed to write this somewhere. If anybody has names for these feelings or patterns of behavior, it might help me to know them so I can research myself a bit.

Currently planning on tie dying a white shirt some shades of blue and doing an outline in black and some solid yellow graphic on this funny Farside comic I saw and need some advice on how to approach it :) I’m wanting to do a plain black outline for the penguin and a section of the ice but a solid yellow color and outline for the banana. 2024.06.02 04:41 SuperSwitch064 Rebalancing Paper Mario Badge System for Hypothetical Future Games (Slight Spoilers for Badges Appearing in First Two Games)

Total Badges: There are 100 badges in Paper Mario Next, consisting of the original 85 from TTYD, 5 returning from PM64 (Dizzy Attack, Dizzy Stomp, Dodge Master, Power Quake, and Speedy Spin) and 10 brand new badges.
In this post, 39 badges have been rebalanced, with 13 being buffed to cost less BP and 26 being nerfed to cost more BP. If a badge isn’t specified in either category, their BP cost hasn’t been changed from their TTYD incarnation, or 64 incarnation in the case of Dizzy Attack, Dizzy Stomp, and Power Quake. These changes will mainly focus on changing up the badge system to allow for more diverse playstyles because, as it stands, Power boosting badges are almost always the way to go over defensive or status inflicting badges. In some cases, I might also specify if a badge would be available earlier or later than it typically was in the first two games to make this hypothetical game have a similar feel to Metroid Dread, where some items you typically get near the beginning in other Metroid games are obtained a bit later, which provided for a different experience and feel to the game compared to previous 2D Metroid games, and I would like the next Paper Mario game to give off that similar feel, if they end were to end up going with the classic formula again.
There have also been two significant alterations to the battle mechanics from TTYD. First, the card slots that could fully recover HP, FP, and SP are now locked behind the new badge Lucky Lottery, allowing for players to choose whether or not they want this helpful component of luck in their battles. The other major change is that now, a Game Over will only occur when both Mario and his active partner have been KO’d in battle, however now Life Shrooms must be consumed manually, allowing for an opening for the enemy to attack after one has been used up. Classic Life Shroom revival mechanics can be restored with the new Life Saver and Life Saver P badges, however this ability will only activate once per battle.
That's about it for major mechanical changes, so let's get into the rebalancing part of the post:
Edit: I forgot to mention this in the initial post, but the max level in this hypothetical game would be 50, with HP and FP both maxing out at 50 like in 64, but BP maxing out at 99 like in TTYD.

~Buffed (Cost Less BP)~
Bump Attack (5 BP-0 BP): Since First Attack was reduced to 0 BP in the TTYD remake, it only makes sense to have Bump Attack reduced as well for quality of life. Just make Bump Attack available later than First Attack and it should work out fine.
Feeling Fine (4 BP-3 BP): Since this badge is universally useful, regardless of the player’s build, it makes sense to slightly reduce its cost to only a single level-up’s worth of BP rather than partway into a second like it currently works.
Feeling Fine P (4 BP-3 BP): Same logic as Feeling Fine.
HP Plus P (6 BP-4 BP): I get that the whole point of having it cost so much BP is to incentivize the player to power up their partners by upgrading them with Merlon, and because it effects multiple party members instead of just Mario, but a better solution would be to only have one or two available in the entire game, and have them show up in Chapter 5 or later, because as it stands this badge’s usability is niche at best and borderline pointless at worst costing 6 BP.
Money Money (5 BP-4 BP): As it currently stands, Money Money is a pretty useless badge, because you get it in the latter half of the game and by then there are better ways of making money like in the Pit of 100 Trials or selling useless badges like this one for a high profit. Swap its place as a minigame area reward with Item Hog’s place as a star piece reward to make it available much earlier in the game and slightly reduce its BP cost to make it viable earlier as well.
P-Down, D-Up (2 BP-1 BP): As it stands in both classic Paper Mario games, offensive strategies are way more viable than defensive strategies, so lowering the cost of a lot of defense oriented badges and boosting the cost of offense oriented badges will be a common pattern in this post. P-Down, D-Up is particularly useless, since Damage Dodge is found around relatively the same time in the game, costs the exact same amount of BP, and doesn’t have the drawback of reducing attack by 1. Making this badge available earlier and reducing its cost by 1 allows for it to thrive as a defensive strategy for beginner players that will allow for slightly longer, but easier fights in the early game, and could be a helpful tool for guard and superguard training.
P-Down, D-Up P (2 BP-1 BP): Same logic as P-Down, D-Up.
Pity Flower (3 BP-1 BP): Beyond filling the niche of having multiple chances of restoring FP by one if you expect the enemy to hit Mario more than once, this badge is generally worse than Happy Flower due to it typically being obtained later and costing one extra BP, so making it cost 1 BP less than Happy Flower and making it available earlier would make it a bit more viable for the early game.
Quake Hammer (2 BP-1 BP): Since Power Quake is returning from PM64 and costs 2 BP, Quake Hammer’s cost will be reduced back to 1 like it was in the first game to introduce a system of progression to hit-all moves for Mario.
Quick Change (7 BP-6 BP): Like with the Feeling Fine badges, this is a universally useful badge that pretty much every build, barring challenge builds, will use, so reducing its cost to requiring two full level-ups’ worth of BP would be a middle ground between its cost of 4 in the first game and 7 in TTYD.
Return Postage (7 BP-4 BP): In TTYD, Return Postage is a badge that has the unfortunate position of being the reward for completing the Pit of 100 Trials, which may or may not be the final challenge that players will face in the game, meaning it likely won’t get much usage from the player, if at all, and even if they manage to get it say, halfway through the game offense oriented strategies just straight up outclass this badge, making its usability incredibly niche. Make it available as a star piece badge reward and couple it with some defense oriented badges and this badge could end up being pretty useful through the mid-game or later.
Speedy Spin (1 BP-0 BP): Since this is purely a quality of life badge like First Attack or Bump Attack, it too will be getting reduced to a cost of 0.
Spike Shield (3 BP-2 BP): The cost of both Spike Shield and Ice Power in TTYD is pretty confusing. All Spike Shield does is allow for Mario to jump on spiked enemies and it costs 3 BP, yet Ice Power allows Mario to jump on fire enemies while ALSO making him deal one extra damage to them AND taking one less damage from fire-based attacks, and it only costs 1 BP. I feel that since Spike Shield is a badge that will be equipped and de-equipped based on where the player is in the game depending on what enemies they will be facing, that its BP cost should be reduced by one for the player’s convenience. Buffing Spike Shield in this way, but nerfing power boosting badges and a few jump move badges should make this change pretty balanced.

~Nerfed (Cost More BP)~
All Or Nothing (4 BP-6 BP): This is the first of many offense boosting badges that will be nerfed, now costing as much as Power Plus did in the base game. The risk-reward concept behind this badge means it won’t be as useful to players as Power Plus unless they can execute action commands perfectly, meaning it shouldn’t cost quite as much as Power Plus, but 4 BP is a little too cheap for this badge, even though it’s usually obtained in the latter half of the game, so increasing its cost by 2 makes sense from a balancing perspective.
Charge (1 BP-4 BP): Even though this move can be used infinitely unlike All Or Nothing and doesn’t have the drawback of failing if you don’t perform the action command perfectly, you still need to use up a turn to charge your attack, leaving yourself vulnerable to enemy attacks, and there were certain bosses in PM64 that could remove your charge with certain attacks, so if that mechanic were to return a cost of 4 BP feels most fitting here.
Charge P (1 BP-4 BP): Same logic as Charge.
Damage Dodge (2 BP-4 BP): Although certain defense-oriented strategies were buffed here, Damage Dodge is just too overpowered as it stands in its TTYD incarnation. Costing nearly a third of Defend Plus and having practically the same effect if you can master the regular guard attack, which isn’t that hard to do, and would be made even easier with Dodge Master returning, so buffing its BP cost to 4 for balancing makes sense.
Damage Dodge P (2 BP-4 BP): Same logic as Damage Dodge.
Dodge Master (2 BP-6 BP): While an increase of 4 BP might seem pretty steep for this badge considering the Damage Dodge badges have already been nerfed, the existence of the superguard makes the inclusion of this badge a bit of a toss-up. If it doesn’t effect the superguard, it could easily return with a cost of 3 or so BP, but assuming it would make the superguard easier to execute, I’ll play it safe and increase its cost up to 6 BP.
Double Dip (3 BP-6 BP): Like with Dodge Master before, an increase of 3 might seem steep, but considering how overpowered items can be and the fact that it only costs 6 BP to get Triple Dip and use up to 3 items per turn, and 12 BP combined with your partner to use 6 items per turn, increasing its cost by 3 would double all the values, needing 12 to get Triple Dip and a whopping 24 to use 6 items per combined turn. This would now cost about a quarter of the total available BP in the game, making it still technically a viable strategy for players who are willing to go the extra mile and use it, but will turn most players away from this strategy in favour of other ones.
Double Dip P (3 BP-6 BP): Same logic as Double Dip.
FP Plus (3 BP-4 BP): In the classic games, especially in the case of TTYD with the ability to get up to 99 BP and with more badges available, the fact that FP and HP Plus cost 1 level-up’s worth of BP can discourage players from levelling up their HP or FP and encourage them to just equip an HP or FP Plus badge as needed. While they aren’t inherently overpowered, boosting both of their costs up by 1 would encourage players to level up HP and FP from time to time unless they’d be willing to dip into a second level-up’s worth of BP, which would bring a bit more strategy to levelling up and make the decision to equip these badges a bit more strategic.
Hammerman (2 BP-4 BP): Hammerman and Jumpman are both pretty powerful badges in TTYD due to their low cost and being an effective Power Plus for their respective move type. However, Jumpman heavily outclasses Hammerman, since the jump hits twice per turn while the hammer only hits once, meaning that with enough boosts the jump will straight up outclass the hammer late in the game. As such, Hammerman’s cost has been boosted up to 4, making it cheaper than the P-Up, D-Down Badges, Jumpman, and Power Plus badges’ new costs to encourage its use over those badges.
HP Plus (3 BP-4 BP): Same logic as FP Plus.
Ice Power (1 BP-3 BP): Most of the logic was already explained in Spike Shield above. Since this badge has three beneficial effects, but is still pretty situational since there are typically far fewer fire-based enemies than there are spiky enemies, it gets to keep all of its base effects but will have its BP cost raised to 3.
Jumpman (2 BP-6 BP): Most of the logic was already explained in Hammerman’s section. It now costs more than Hammerman and the P-Up, D-Down badges, but less than Power Plus since it locks you into the jump and may require the use of Spike Shield or Ice Power in some cases to take full advantage of its power.
Mega Rush (1 BP-6 BP): Next on the laundry list of power-boosting badges is Mega Rush. Even though it’s incredibly situational, if you’re willing to repeatedly jump into water or damage yourself in other ways to get your HP down to 1 and keep it there for a while, you effectively have the power of 5 Power Plus badges for a sixth of the cost, which is way too powerful since they can also be stacked. Boosting their BP cost to be equal to Jumpman, but less than the Power Plus badges makes sense due to them both being similarly limited, but very effective strategies if used properly.
Mega Rush P (1 BP-6 BP): Same logic as Mega Rush.
Multibounce (1 BP-3 BP): With the introduction of Power Quake and jump attacks generally being more effective than the hammer, now there’s a steady progression for hit-all moves. You start off with Quake Hammer in the early-game, which can hit all ground-based enemies and be boosted with power-boosting badges, but doesn’t get stronger with the Super and Ultra Hammer. Then around the mid-game you get Power Quake, which costs one more BP but does more damage than Quake Hammer tantamount to what it would’ve been if it had been boosted along with the Super Hammer. Finally, in the latter half of the game you’d finally get Multibounce, which costs 1 BP more than Power Quake but does get boosted with the Boot upgrades and can be used on any enemy with the use of Spike Shield and Ice Power. Its FP cost has also been increased to 6 to serve as a progression from the 2 FP cost of Quake Hammer and 4 FP cost of Power Quake due to its enhanced utility as a move.
P-Up, D-Down (2 BP-5 BP): My mindset with this badge is similar to previous badges like Jumpman and Mega Rush. Since there is a significant drawback of taking more damage per turn it makes sense for it to cost less than Jump Man and Mega Rush, but its current cost of 2 BP makes it way too overpowered, even when taking into account you get it later in the game than Power Plus. Putting its cost at 5 feels like a safe bet, making it cost more than Power Rush but less than Mega Rush and Jumpman.
P-Up, D-Down P (2 BP-5 BP): Same logic as P-Up, D-Down.
Power Bounce (3 BP-9 BP): This is a pretty steep increase, but it should require minimal explanation. Considering you can jump on an enemy 100 times doing well over 100 damage if you have the right badge set-up, this badge should be tied for the most expensive in the game, but I’ve also decided to further nerf it in two ways. Now, it will cost 9 FP, making it the most expensive Mario move FP-wise in the game and requiring some FP saving badges to be used in a BP only run. It will also only calculate the total damage done after all jumps have been performed, meaning unless you get 100 perfect jumps every time, it’ll render All or Nothing completely worthless combined with this badge. It should also only typically be available later in the game, but be obtainable early enough in the game so that if players are willing to go out of their way to get it they’ll be rewarded with the most powerful badge in the game, making it the perfect reward for beating the Pit of 100 Trials. With all of these nerfs, there is a slight upside, as a weaker version of this badge called the Froggy Bounce has been introduced, and will be detailed at the end of the post.
Power Plus (6 BP-8 BP): It would be a little redundant to explain everything in full detail here. Considering you get a flat 1 increase to your attack without any drawbacks, it makes sense to increase this badge’s cost from 6 to 8, making it tied for the second most-expensive badge in the game.
Power Plus P (6 BP-8 BP): Same logic as Power Plus.
Power Rush (1 BP-4 BP): Being a less powerful version of Mega Rush, it makes sense for Power Rush to cost less than it. Due to it also being more risky than a P-Up, D-Down badge, it makes sense for its cost to be 4 BP, even though it gives an extra attack point than that badge. This way, it’s still cheap enough for players who are willing to exploit the Danger Mario strategy to go for it, but most players will only be willing to equip one or two of these badges due to its increased BP cost.
Power Rush P (1 BP-4 BP): Same logic as Power Rush.
Shrink Stomp (1 BP-2 BP): In my vision of Paper Mario 7, there would be a special move that decreases the enemy’s attack and defense as a sort of inverse of Power Lift, but their attack and defense wouldn’t be able to be de-buffed below 1 and 0 respectively. That already nerfs Shrink Stomp pretty heavily, but due to it being a jumping attack and still being pretty versatile, I’ve decided to increase its cost to 2 BP anyway to encourage the use of hammer attacks over jumping attacks.
Sleepy Stomp (1 BP-2 BP): Similar logic to Shrink Stomp. Since it inflicts a pretty strong status effect while also being a jumping move, its cost will be increased to 2 to further encourage the use of the hammer.
Soft Stomp (1 BP-2 BP): Same logic as Shrink Stomp.

~New Badges~
Retro Roots (0 BP): Changes the appearance of Mario and his allies to an 8-bit rendition of themselves both in the overworld and in battle. Prevents Mario and his allies from performing guards and superguards, and removes the action command from all attacks to provide a more traditional turn-based RPG experience. Unlocked after collecting all the other 99 badges in the game.
Plumber Smash (1 BP): Mario drains back the amount of damage he does to a single enemy with this hammer attack for 3 FP.
Polter Bust (2 BP): Allows Mario to attack invisible enemies, rendering them visible afterwards.

2024.06.02 03:00 New_Shape_5153 About to defend my PhD dissertation...and I feel horrible

TL;DR: make friends and don't have an ego, it makes graduate school easier.
Using a throwaway account so that I can say how I truly feel. If it matters, I did my PhD in plasma physics.
My Phd took me eight years. If I live to 90, eight years is 8.8% of my entire life. In my program, people graduate in 5-6 years. I feel pathetic and ashamed it took me so long, and ironically, the imposter syndrome is really starting to kick in now. I know just enough now to realize I shouldn't ever have gotten this degree, and while many people might disagree with me here, I believe I've really wasted a significant portion of my life. My PhD experience was really horrible for two reasons that are closely linked (one social and one related to self-esteem).
Socially:
In those 8 years I barely made friends, and the friends I did make, I eventually burned those bridges and drove them away, all those people graduated and moved on and I never took the time to reconcile hurt feelings or bad endings. Not only did I not develop a good rapport with any of my graduate cohort (or the proceeding cohorts that joined later) I developed such horrible relationships with the other graduate students that I've become the resident "asshole" of the department (in their words, not mine).
There are many reasons my graduate school relationships were horrible, but the one that caused the most harm was my incredibly long absences in any of the graduate school social events. I have a really bad "habit" of leaving people's lives for months to years at a time, most likely stemming from childhood traumas. My behavior usually proceeds like so: I'll hang out with folks for a little while, get hurt over something that in hindsight is usually pretty minor, and go radio silent for years with no contact with them. Then after all that time, i'll poke my head back into their lives pretending like nothing ever happened. Well, it turns out if you do that enough times, strong relationships don't have a chance to grow. All you get in the end are people that try to be polite to you since *technically* you haven't done anything asshole-ish, but it was your absence (the lack of hanging out) that makes you an asshole. Silver lining of it all is that at least now I'm aware of the behavioral pattern.
My ego:
As many of you are probably aware, a Ph.D. really breaks you down before building you back up again. You go through several years of essentially reinforcement learning where you are taught that you don't know anything. Its not until years of having that instilled in you that you begin to make progress learning the field. I wont sugarcoat it, most of my self-worth is tied with my inflated fragile ego. I need people to tell me I'm the smartest one in the room, or at least imply it. When that reality is threatened, I shatter and throw a hissy fit, essentially devolving into becoming a grown man-child screaming and kicking his legs because "I'm supposed to be the smart one!". You can imagine how destructive such a personality can be in an academic setting, especially a Ph.D program. For me personally, i've gone into year long depressive fits because someone made the *slightest* hint that I may be wrong about a topic that in the grand scheme of things didn't even matter. Imagine that! Wasting away for years just because someone vaguely commented that you may be slightly incorrect about anything! I can admit I was pretty pathetic, and am ashamed to say, not much has changed since then. Again, the silver lining is that at least now I'm aware of this toxic ego.
The lesson to take away from my cautionary tale:
Having a good graduate school experience is never guaranteed, but if you want to give yourself a good chance at one then:
  1. Make friends and don't be absent in their lives. Even if they hurt you, there are better ways of dealing with that than to leave the situation entirely. Trust me, while time does heal all, you will still be left with very hurtful regrets in the end if you decide to give up on friends entirely.
  2. Let go of the ego. It really isn't worth it. An inflated ego is as delicate as a bubble that's frozen over, and it can be hard to reconcile with folks after you blow up because you're giant ego wasn't adequately stroked.
Now, eight years of a train-wreck later i'm about to defend. Only now are all my mistakes clear to me. Reflecting on my graduate years I feel like a pathetic ego-maniacal loser that wasted his life. I'm not here to find comforting words, rather, I needed a place to word vomit. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading.

Question about Nagoya obi
Hello everyone! I tied my first obi by watching one of Billy Matsunaga’s videos, which showed two other ways to tie a Nagoya obi. After I tied it, I noticed that the pattern of my obi doesn’t reach far enough on the thinner part of the obi (I think it’s called the tae?). This makes it so the lower right part of my bow is not patterned like the rest of the bow. Is this okay? (Also, I know the middle part of the bow is “upside down” and that the pattern side isn’t facing out— I folded that part wrong and just decided to go with it as a practice run). (I know that the obi does not match the kimono well. I got it online and it appeared to be lighter with more metallic threading in the photos I saw.) Thanks for any advice/tips!

I need to either reroot or try and dye her hair black and then she'd be perfect 😍 I really wish they could have done a classic Myth High or something to tie into the MH/EAH universr back in the day..
I also took my SS Cleo and rebodied her with OMG Cleo.. which I do not recommend doing. MH Cleos body snapped at her bust and the OMG neck peg snapped.
A lot of error but I definitely think the body swap was a success! Even if her neck doesn't fit on perfectly cause of the peg breaking. Oddly enough her clothes fit near perfect on the OMG body!

This was certainly a challenge for me, as Nature of Knights is radically different to anything I've written and most of what I've read. In the end, I decided to focus on Rhea, and her experience being rescued by Tom after her time with the Arxur. These events follow from the events of chapter 5.
I had a couple more scenes I wanted to write, but I ended up running out of time, so I decided that this was a good place to end it. I may do a follow up chapter with the other scenes I had planned out, if I have the time and motivation.

I sat curled in the corner, my snout resting on my knees, holding my legs against my chest. Most of the wooly people stayed in the opposite corner of the room, clearly frightened of me. Did they know what I had been forced to do, what I’d- WHO I’d eaten to survive, broken and desperate on that Arxur ship? I still remember the fear in their eyes, eyes that I could see the sapience behind. I remember the way they pleaded, begging in a language I didn’t know, but what they meant was obvious. Food isn’t supposed to be something that can think, that can speak, they never should have been cattle. I can feel their wool on my gums as I-
At least I tried to make it quick.
I clutched my legs tighter, a whimper escaping my lips and tears seeping into my fur as my claws dug into my skin.
I could hear the wooly people talking amongst themselves in that same musical sounding language, with a few talking to the “Humans” who had slain my handlers in a different alien tongue. I tried to block out the musical language of the wooly aliens, and the memories it brought, by trying to glean meaning from the conversation with the Humans. Without any context, my emotion-addled mind couldn’t find any useful patterns in their speech. They sounded kind, though, much kinder than the Arxur, with their jeering growls and hisses. I hoped that the Humans would treat me better than my handlers had. Not that it’d take much.
With a shudder and a whimper, I tried to force my thoughts of the past and worries for the future out of my mind, letting the sounds of the Humans’ language wash over me, as the tears seeped into my fur.

Date [standardized human time]: July 13, 2275

As I returned to consciousness on the hard floor, I heard the speech of one of the wooly people, and smelled their scent on the air. I curled in on myself deeper, waiting for the screams, or the beatings to start, as my handlers forced me to eat. But they never came. After a few minutes, I tentatively opened my eyes. I wasn’t in the kennel?I remembered, I remembered that armored person. They shot my handlers, but they didn’t hurt me. They said they wouldn’t, that I was safe. I hope it’s true. They are a Human. They brought me here, with all the wooly people.
As I looked around, I saw less wooly people than I remembered from the previous day. They probably just went to another room. I hoped they just went to another room. I then noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned to see the armored Human setting down a glowing device displaying what I assumed was Human writing, and putting their helmet back on. They turned to me and spoke in Arxur. “Good morning! Did you have a good sleep?”
I replied as best I could, “Yes, sleep was good.”
“I’m glad. Before we get you some breakfast, I have something for you, and I also need to ask you a couple of questions.” I cocked my head in confusion, wondering what they wanted to give me, and what else they had planned for me. They handed me some folded pieces of thin, tightly woven white fabric, and continued. “We saw that you wear clothes like us, and Sarah thought that you might want to cover up a bit more. This isn’t much, but it should do until we can make something better for you.” I took the fabric, but continued to look at them confused. He slowly reached out with a single armored finger, and gently plucked at my [shirt]. Or what was left of it. I suddenly realized how little my tattered clothes still covered, with much of my front visible through the gashes my handlers had left in my shirt, and my [skirt] was so shredded that my… everything could be seen by anyone who made the effort to look amongst the tatters and my matted fur. I instinctively tried to cover myself with my tail and arms, and the armored human seemed to sense my embarrassment. They moved to sit between me and the rest of the room, facing away, and reached back with a bottle and a roll of gauze in their hand. “For your wounds. Do you want me to help clean your wounds, or should I give you some privacy while you do it yourself?”
“Yes, clean my wounds.” And though I knew they wouldn’t understand, I added in my own language, “Thank you, truly.”
They turned around to face me, and, with more care and dexterity than I would have thought possible from such a heavily armored form, they explored the fur of my arms with their fingers, inspecting each of my cuts. When they found one that was still seeping, they unscrewed the lid of the bottle, which smelled strongly of distilled alcohol. They wet a cloth with it, before carefully dabbing it into the wound, and wiping away the pus and the worst of the dried blood. The alcohol burned, but I knew it was better than allowing my wounds to fester.
I still didn’t know the name of my savior, or even if they were male or female. At least I assumed Humans had males and females. Surely, with how kind they’ve been, they wouldn’t mind if I asked? While they cleaned and bandaged my arms, I tried to think of the best way to ask my question with my limited knowledge of the Arxur language. My handlers hadn’t exactly prepared me for social niceties. When the armored Human had finished with my arms, I took the opportunity.
“I am Rhea, She. You are?”
They cocked their head for a moment, seemingly confused, before responding.
“Oh, I never did introduce myself, did I? I’m Thomas Jones, he him, or you can call me Tom for short. Most do. I’m a knight of the Coalition, trained and sworn to protect its people and its ideals. To be the best the human race has to offer. I’m the shield that protects and the sword that strikes down evil.”
Once he had given his name and informed me that he was male, he seemed to fall into a rehearsed speech. As with everything else he said, there was so much of it I didn’t understand, but the unknown words he spoke were entirely new to me, and many of them seemed somehow less harsh than the rest of the language of the Arxur, as though they had never been touched by the cruelty of the people who took me from my home. And the way he was filled with confidence and nobility in his shining armor as he spoke made me think of the armored [knights] who gladly gave up their lives to try and protect us from the Arxur. His words too, a mantra of strength, excellence, and most of all protection, evoked their noble code. Is that who he is? A Human [knight]? Will he protect me too, even though I am not of the “Coalition”, whatever that is?
Will he still protect me if he finds out what the Arxur forced me to do?
I saw that Tom was looking at me for some kind of response, so I nodded to indicate I understood, and he nodded back, returning to my injuries. It seemed our species shared that gesture. He eased my [shirt] up out of the way, and I went ahead and removed it entirely, and turned away from him so he had better access to my back and sides. Judging from his sharp intake of breath, it was probably pretty bad. I clenched my teeth and braced for the pain of him treating my injuries, but even still, I let out a loud, pained whimper as the dull throbbing of my many cuts and scratches were thrown into sharp clarity, as the alcohol found and painfully cleansed each one.
“I know, I know. I’m sorry,” he said, as he rubbed one of my gashes clean, drawing out another whimper. “I’m doing my best to be gentle, but this has to be done.”
“I know.” I hiss through clenched teeth.
One by one my wounds were cleaned, and the worse ones packed with gauze. As he worked his way around to clean the few cuts I had on my front, I marveled at how he was able to be so dexterous and gentle with his armored fingers. He then took a fresh roll of gauze, and started wrapping it around my shoulders and upper torso, covering my wounds. The gauze stuck to itself, without aid of any glue or knotwork, and soon enough, most of my injuries were properly bound. The cuts on my legs and haunches swiftly followed. They clearly weren’t as bad or as numerous as the injuries to my back, as in seemingly no time at all, he had finished his work. He then handed me the white fabric again, and then stood with his back facing my corner, as if to guard my privacy while I dressed myself.
I unfolded the cloth, and found that Tom had given me two rectangles of fabric about [5 feet] by [3 feet]. I pondered how best to make something like clothing from them as I carefully removed my tattered [skirt]. Finally, I settled on folding over the end of one of the pieces of fabric to make it slightly shorter, and then tying it behind my neck so it covered my front like a baggy apron, before wrapping the other piece around my waist with my tail parting the seam like my [skirt], and rolling it over itself a few times to secure it so it wouldn’t slip down. I tugged on the fabric, adjusting it so it laid well against my body and so I was sure it wouldn’t slip, and that everything I cared about was covered. I wished that my crude [skirt] had some way to fasten it around my tail, but it would do, so long as I kept my tail fairly low to protect my modesty. Finally, I picked up my old clothes. I didn’t really know what to do with them. They weren’t really in any state to be worn, but they were all I had left of my home, so I couldn’t bear to get rid of them. In the end, I carefully folded them, and tucked them into one side of my crude skirt, where the bright colors of the ragged cloth contrasted against the pure white of my makeshift outfit and the bandages covering much of my arms and torso.
“Tom, I’m done.” I said, and he turned around to face me again, looking at me and giving me a small nod.
“Good. Now that you’re dressed, I need to know a bit more about your diet before we have breakfast.”
I cocked my head, unsure of what he wanted me to tell him, before he clarified.
“What do you eat?”

I froze.
He knows what I’ve done.
I began to hyperventilate.
How did he know? Did he even know?
“I didn’t want to! They made me-” I began in Fevarian, before halting myself and trying to explain myself in Arxur.
“They made me do it. I didn’t- I wouldn’t have if they didn’t- they made me eat them, they hurt me, hurt me when I didn’t!”
“Slow down. What did they make you do? What did they make you eat?”
I shuddered as tears dripped down my muzzle. I couldn’t hide what I’d done. Not now, not even if I wanted to. As the tears poured from my eyes, and a pained whine started in the back of my throat, I looked past Tom to the opposite corner of the room where a few of the wooly people stood, and whispered, barely loud enough to be heard.
“Them.”
I tensed up, bracing for his response.
As he processed what I had meant, I saw a shift in his demeanor as he tensed up, enraged by what I’d done. I cowered into the corner, expecting him to strike me down, but instead he hastily shifted his posture, forcing himself to relax.
“It’s okay. It’s not your fault. I’m not mad at you, I’m mad at them. I want to kill those fucking cannibal bastards a second time for what they did to you. We will hunt the Arxur down, until they can’t do that to anyone else, ever again.”
He removed his helmet and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, and for the first time, I was able to look him in the eyes. They were so alien, but I could see the kindness in them.
It’s okay, you’re safe now.” he said in his Human language, and while I didn’t understand the words, I knew what he meant. I could see it in his face, and the tone of his voice. He wasn’t going to hurt me. I was safe with him. I hugged his armored torso, and buried my face into his neck, allowing myself to just break down and sob. I cried and cried until I had no more tears, as Tom stroked the fur on my back and comforted me.“It’s okay.
Let it all out.
You’re safe now.
