🔗Handor 9-Hole CV Joint Puller Propshaft Separator Tool for Universal CV Axle Removal

https://preview.redd.it/p0da2xkvfp2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcc49b78fb7d5036739e3059622967b6c0acfdb1
I've had the pleasure of using the Handor CV Joint Puller Propshaft Separator Tool 9 Holes Axle Removal in my daily life, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer. This tool is designed to separate CV joints from axles without the need to remove the entire drive shaft - a timesaver that cannot be overstated.
One aspect that stood out to me was its durability. Crafted from zinc-plated and black-oxide coated steel, the tool is built to last, resisting rust and corrosion for a long lifespan. It's compact too, with dimensions measuring at 9.4" x 5.75" (23.9cm x 14.6cm), making it a space-saving option that's perfect for any garage or workshop.
Another highlight is its versatility. With nine adjustable holes, the tool can accommodate a range of joint assemblies, making it compatible with most vehicles equipped with CV joints. The collar ring opening is designed for axle passage, ensuring a secure fit while minimizing the risk of damage to the joints, transmissions, or other components.
However, like any tool, it's not without its drawbacks. One downside I encountered was that it took some time to get the hang of using it, especially for those who aren't as familiar with mechanics. I also noticed that, while it's highly effective at its primary function, there were a few instances where I had to make minor adjustments to achieve the desired result.
In spite of these minor drawbacks, the Handor CV Joint Puller Propshaft Separator Tool 9 Holes Axle Removal has proved to be a reliable and efficient product that's made my life as a mechanic significantly easier. It's a tool I'd highly recommend for anyone in need of a versatile and robust CV joint removal solution.

I recently had the chance to try out the Bonbo 12020-2 Piece Axle Popper Kit. I was trying to work on my front wheel drive vehicle, and I found this tool to be incredibly helpful. As someone who appreciates simplicity in their tool set, I was impressed with how easy it was to use.
What stood out to me the most was the fork-shaped end that allowed me to apply uniform pressure on both sides of the half shaft, ensuring a safe release. This was different from the pry bar and sliding hammer I had used in the past, and it made all the difference in my experience.
The two-piece CV shaft ejection tool kit also made it suitable for most FWD vehicles, which was great to see. I appreciated the solid steel front fork that was designed with an open space, making it easy to install around my CV axle. The Popper wedges even started at a depth of 1/4 inch to fit the tight space at work.
Using the tool was a breeze - simply insert the wedge-shaped wheel bearing tool between the transaxle housing and the shaft joint, with the fork-shaped end surrounding the shaft. Then, tap the end of the front fork to loosen the half shaft. Finally, use the shim popper to fill the larger gap on some vehicles.
Overall, I had a positive experience using the Bonbo 12020-2 Piece Axle Popper Kit. It's a versatile and durable tool that can be used on a variety of front wheel drive vehicles, making it a great addition to any mechanic's toolbox.

I've been using the Sunluway 48mm Inner CV Axle Removal Tool for a couple of weeks now, and let me tell you, it's really come in handy for fixing those pesky damaged joints in various vehicles. The U-shaped design and 48mm opening size make it an easy tool to pull out hidden retaining rings with minimal effort.
One of the great benefits of this tool is its ability to create added torque to apply a large amount of pressure on the CV axle, making it easier to remove axle assemblies from expensive transmission cases without any damage. It's compatible with Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models from 1986 to the present, which is awesome for its accessibility.
The tool also features an easy installation process. You simply attach it to your slide hammer, position it around the shaft behind the inner boot, and use a 5 lb hammer to create torque and pull out the axle. Don't forget to use lubricant fluid for added ease, as it can make the operation much smoother.
Made from high-strength hardened steel, this tool from Sunluway is not only powerful but reliable as well, offering a longer service life. It's a simple tool, but it packs a punch, making it a must-have in any mechanic's toolbox. It fits slide hammers with 5/8-inch x 18 threads, which is a great added bonus. Overall, this removal tool has made my job as a mechanic much easier and more efficient. Highly recommended!

I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use the Heavy Duty Slide Hammer Removal Tool Set for my CV Axle needs. This 10-pound tool is a game-changer when it comes to removing and installing stubborn CV axles. The ergonomic design and anti-rust treatment make the heavy-duty steel slide hammer and CV joint fork a durable and reliable option. The set also includes a steel wire joint puller and nuts, all neatly organized in a plastic case for easy carrying.
One thing that stood out to me was the ease of use. If you've ever struggled with removing a CV axle without damaging the pricey aluminum transmission cases, this tool is a lifesaver. Simply slide the hammer onto the axle, and apply force without risk of breaking or damaging any components.

One of the standout features of this tool kit was its heavy steel slide hammer. As someone who has worked with various slide hammers, I can tell you that this one was a beast. It was twice as heavy and twice as long as my old one, which made the job much easier and more efficient. The ergonomic design of the handle also made it incredibly comfortable to use, making the entire process a breeze.
Another great feature of this tool kit was the versatility of the 63mm and 48mm CV joint forks. They could fit most vehicle models and were a lifesaver when I couldn't find the right size for my specific car.
The kit also came with a manual puller and two 16mm nuts, which were perfect for securing the new axle in place. The compact plastic case made it easy to organize and carry the tools with me wherever I went.
Overall, I highly recommend the Inner CV Joint Removal Tool Kit for anyone looking to make the process of replacing their car's CV axle a hassle-free experience.

FAQ

What are CV axle removal tools?

CV axle removal tools are specialized tools designed to make the process of removing a CV (constant velocity) axle easier and more efficient. These tools typically include various sizes of sockets, spacers, and handles to provide enough leverage and grip to securely remove the axle.

Why do I need CV axle removal tools?

CV axle removal tools are necessary when you need to replace or repair a damaged CV axle. Standard socket wrenches may not provide enough leverage or grip to remove these axles effectively and may even damage the surrounding components. Using specialized tools ensures a smooth and successful removal process.

What types of CV axle removal tools are available?

There are several types of CV axle removal tools available in the market. These include socket-style tools, hydraulic tools, and power tools. Each type offers different features and benefits, making it important to select the right one based on your specific needs and the type of vehicle you are working on.

Are hydraulic CV axle removal tools more effective than socket-style tools?

Hydraulic CV axle removal tools may offer an advantage over socket-style tools in terms of ease of use. They utilize hydraulic pressure to apply force to the axle, which can help break the axle free without causing damage to the surrounding parts. However, socket-style tools are often more available and less expensive.

What safety precautions should I take when using CV axle removal tools?

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and safety glasses, to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Ensure the tools are rated for the specific size and type of your vehicle's axles.
  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully and thoroughly, as improper use can lead to accidents or damage to the tools and surrounding components.
  • Only use approved prying tools to avoid bending or breaking the axle shaft.
  • Double-check the socket and spacers for proper alignment and torque to prevent damage or accidents.

🔗Automatic Resetting Airgun Target for Stress-Free Shooting Practice

https://preview.redd.it/wavafe7k6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ebcd005b72837bec1405aa4b0bcd3ddd3495ae0
The Birchwood Casey Airgun Gallery Resetting Target proved to be a reliable and durable accessory for my airgun. With its high-quality steel construction, the target remained sturdy even after countless lead pellet impacts. The innovative spin design of the target made it easy to use, as it automatically reset itself after each shot, saving me time and eliminating the hassle of manually resetting it.
One feature that stood out to me was the compact and portable design of the target. The lightweight construction and easy storage made it convenient to use in a variety of settings, making it perfect for airgun enthusiasts who enjoy practicing their skills outdoors or at a range.
However, one downside I experienced with the target was that it was designed specifically for lead pellets. This meant that attempting to use the target with anything else, such as 22 rimfire bullets, was not recommended due to potential damage to the target.
Overall, the Birchwood Casey Airgun Gallery Resetting Target provided a fun and effective way for me to practice my airgun shooting skills, thanks to its innovative features and reliable construction.

🔗Daisy NRA 5-Meter BB Targets for Enhanced Marksmanship and Championship Performance

https://preview.redd.it/1ooqc3qk6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00467e16eaa4b962875c9ee7f862ffc0620cca66
I recently started practicing with a Daisy Air Rifle and noticed that improving my marksmanship was a key factor in mastering the sport. That's when I stumbled upon these official Daisy NRA 5-Meter BB Targets. They proved to be an essential addition to my training routine.
One striking feature was the precision and accuracy these targets provided. Perfect for honing my shooting skills, they're designed to help me feel confident, making my practice more productive. Another aspect I found fascinating was their bullseye illustration, which made targeting a breeze.
Additionally, their hanging mount proved quite practical as I could easily set them up for each session. What's more, each pack includes 50 targets, which, let's be honest, was more than I ever expected. This feature helped keep my training consistent and enjoyable.
Despite their excellent features, a drawback I discovered was that the targets weren't auto-resetting. It meant I needed to manually reset them between shots, which, while not detrimental, felt like an unnecessary extra step.
All in all, I found great value in the Daisy NRA 5-Meter BB Targets. They were reasonably priced, easy to order, and arrived promptly. Plus, their high rating speaks to their overall customer satisfaction. If you're looking to up your accuracy game, I'd give these targets a shot.

🔗Daisy Red Ryder Starter Kit - Pump BB Gun Accessories

https://preview.redd.it/x0mkax0l6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d2d86f16dc0ffba57edea3f6807fe10260d300f
The Daisy Red Ryder Starter Kit has been a game-changer in my household. It arrived at just the right time to complement my daughter's Red Ryder BB gun.
This kit has everything you could possibly need to kickstart a shooting adventure, including a durable gun sleeve, a tin of 25 assorted Red Ryder shooting gallery targets, and high-quality shooting glasses. The shooting glasses fit my daughter perfectly and she loves wearing them as they add a touch of coolness and safety to her shooting experience. The tin of BBs is conveniently designed and holds enough ammunition to keep the fun going for a while.
The targets, while simple, are perfect for honing her aim and precision. Overall, the Daisy Red Ryder Starter Kit has been an excellent investment, and I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a safe, fun, and affordable way to introduce their child to the thrill of target shooting.

🔗Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun Fun Shooting Kit

https://preview.redd.it/9y41r7hl6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1f37061cac2414707e93f36d5daf64296afebec
I recently tried the Daisy Red Ryder Fun Kit myself and had quite the adventure. Firstly, the set truly comes with everything you need for an exciting shooting experience. However, I must say, it took me a while to get used to it.
One of the key features of this kit is the renowned Red Ryder BB gun. It's smooth and easy to hold, but the accuracy was quite disappointing. I found myself missing targets more often than I would have liked. On the bright side, at least I could appreciate the classic design of the gun.
To enhance the shooting experience, the kit also comes with shooting glasses and a tin of BBs. I must admit, the glasses were convenient and provided some protection while I was busy aiming at targets. The BBs, however, seemed like a cheap alternative and didn't always penetrate the targets.
The fun paper targets provided were a nice touch, but the distance limitations of the gun took away some of the enjoyment. I had to be extremely close to hit the targets, and even then, it wasn't always accurate.
Overall, while the Daisy Red Ryder Fun Kit is a decent option for a beginner's shooting experience, I wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for better accuracy or quality. But if you're looking for an affordable and simple way to introduce a young one to the world of BB guns, it might just do the trick.

🔗Advanced Decelerator Rifle Cheek Pad for Enhanced Shooting Control

https://preview.redd.it/oxvfncvl6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8103fea27ffc805de488a1d0b4ee8bc7aacafbb0
As an avid hunter, I had been searching for a recoil pad that offered both advanced control and easy installation. When I stumbled upon the Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On Pad, I was excited to give it a try. Upon receiving the pad, I was impressed by its sleek design and the attention to detail in its construction. The installation process was a breeze, and I was thrilled to see how seamlessly it fitted onto my rifle.
One of the standout features of the Decelerator Slip-On Pad was its unique speed mount insert. This innovative design not only enhanced the pad's appearance but also improved its performance. I noticed a significant decrease in felt recoil, which made my shooting experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Furthermore, the pad's non-slip and snag-free design was perfect for my active hunting lifestyle.
However, there were a couple of minor drawbacks that I encountered. Firstly, the pad did add an inch to the overall length of my rifle, which could be a concern for some hunters. Secondly, while the pad was available in three sizes, I wished there were even more options to cater to a wider range of firearms.
In summary, the Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On Pad has become an invaluable addition to my hunting gear. Its combination of advanced recoil control, sleek design, and easy installation makes it a worthwhile investment for any serious sportsman. Despite the minor drawbacks, I am confident that this pad will continue to perform exceptionally well during my hunting expeditions.

🔗Car Vinyl Wrap Film for Remarkable Personalized Looks

https://preview.redd.it/q00vf2cm6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2142107320bdb54a7fd20b7d186d0e1d08fc680e
Recently, I tried out the Vicrez vzv10121-3 Vinyl Car Wrap Film in Matte Black Iron for a DIY project. The 5ft x 3ft wrap was easy to work with and came with a vast selection of colors, patterns, and finishes to choose from. Although it does require some basic installation knowledge, the wraps are simple to apply and can easily be removed without damaging the car's paint.
One of the standout features of this wrap is its air release technology, which makes for a smooth and effortless installation process. Additionally, the realistic car paint look provides an enhanced appearance for a fraction of what a traditional paint job would cost. The material is also incredibly durable, with a lifespan of 4-6 years for exterior applications and 8+ years for interior use.
However, the matte black color of my chosen wrap did prove somewhat challenging to work with at times. Also, the installation process can be tricky if you don't have experience with vinyl wraps, so it's definitely worth having some knowledge beforehand. Overall, the Vicrez Vinyl Wrap offers a stylish and functional solution for adding a personalized touch to your car or any other surface it can be applied to.

🔗Flexzilla Quiet-Flo Safety Nozzle for Modular Accessories System

https://preview.redd.it/y1jumvpm6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=429e0bad91afc0854531f081690d2e9e3c3c1b80
I recently had the chance to try out the Quiet-Flo Safety Nozzle from Flexzilla, and I have to say, it exceeded my expectations! The modular accessories system made it incredibly easy to customize the length of my extension and the tips for any job I tackled. It also met OSHA standards for professional use, giving me peace of mind as I worked.
The nozzle was perfect for my mechanics and automotive workshop, and it genuinely made my Flexzilla blow gun even better. While the nozzle was quite sturdy and held up well under pressure, it seemed a bit more challenging to twist and bend than I would have liked. Still, that minor inconvenience didn't stop me from enjoying the countless benefits of this nifty little safety nozzle. This product truly lives up to its 5.0 rating and is definitely worth trying out.

🔗Improve Accuracy with the Daisy Red Ryder Shooting Gallery Accessory

https://preview.redd.it/ezgqa41n6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb673850a598aae5a75b4405eccfa371bf21becd
Last week, I stumbled upon the Daisy Red Ryder Shooting Gallery while hunting for some new gear for my daughter's Red Ryder BB gun. As a parent, I thought this would be an excellent way to improve her shooting accuracy and provide hours of indoor fun for the whole family. With 25 assorted targets included, I was excited to give it a try.
The moment I opened the box, I was impressed by the simplicity of the design. It's just a small box with a rubber backing, and the targets easily punch out and attach to the front. The bottom trap efficiently collects the BBs, making it easy to reuse them for future sessions. Additionally, the rubber backing effectively stops BBs up to 350 fps, making it safe for indoor use.
However, there were some challenges I encountered during my experience. As a parent, I worried about the box being sturdy enough to withstand the force of the BBs. Although the included weight helped keep it steady, I still had to place it on a flat surface to prevent it from blowing over.
Additionally, I noticed that the product did not live up to the expectations set by the product images. The images show a gun carrying case and more accessories than what was delivered. While this was not a deal-breaker for me, it made me wonder if other customers had similar experiences.
Overall, the Daisy Red Ryder Shooting Gallery proved to be a fun and convenient way to practice our shooting skills, despite the lack of sturdiness and some unexpected differences from the advertised images.

As a reviewer, I have to say the Benjamin PCP Charging System is quite the handy device for PCP air rifle users. When I first received it, I was amazed at how lightweight it was, making it incredibly convenient for carrying around. One nifty feature that caught my attention was the built-in pressure gauge that allowed for precise filling.
The system's construction has been quite impressive as it is made from carbon fiber, which prevents corrosion. It is also quite durable, offering peace of mind during long periods of use. However, there was a minor downside – the micro bore hose seemed a bit too short, making it a bit challenging to fill my PCP air rifle.
The inclusion of a stainless steel fill connection was another plus, as it ensured long-lasting use without any significant problems. The tank also filled quite quickly with my hand pump, providing great convenience and efficiency.
Overall, the Benjamin PCP Charging System has exceeded my expectations, offering a perfect balance between convenience, portability, and performance. I particularly appreciate how it has made refilling my PCP air rifle much faster and more enjoyable, making it a must-have accessory for any PCP air rifle enthusiast.

🔗Revel 1TR1AA002R VLS 52mm Water Temperature Gauge with OLED Display and Sensor

I remember using the Revel VLS 52mm Water Temp Gauge on my air rifle just last season. The gauge is quite compact, making it perfect for small space mounting, like underneath my scope. The display is simply brilliant - it's digital OLED, which offers a deeper black and sharper contrast, delivering a crystal clear image that's easily readable even from a distance.
One of the cool features was its 30 LED outer ring. When I'm taking aim in low light conditions, it gave me the perfect level of visibility. Plus, its daisy chain compatibility made it so easy to attach multiple gauges without needing several power cords.
The included water temp sensor is another key feature. It helps me to monitor the engine's temperature even when I'm out in the field, ensuring everything runs smoothly. The mounting kit that comes with the gauge makes installation a breeze.
However, nothing's perfect, right? I did notice the water temp gauge tends to be a bit sensitive to vibrations if I'm not careful with handling it. Overall, though, it's a reliable and efficient little gauge that's made a big difference in my shooting session, and I highly recommend it.

I recently bought the Vicrez magnetic fluorescent green car wrap for my truck, and I must say, I am impressed. It took a little bit of effort to apply it properly, but the air bubble release feature made it a lot simpler than I had anticipated. The wrap itself has a fantastic chameleon finish, which makes my truck look absolutely stunning.
One of the things I appreciate the most about this wrap is its removability. I can easily take it off at any time without damaging the original paint on my truck. It's reassuring to know that my vehicle's resale value remains intact.
The stretchability is another remarkable feature. It can stretch up to 300%, which makes the application process even more effortless. I was particularly thrilled when I found out that this wrap can be applied to complex curves, simple curves, flat surfaces, and even some compound, convex, and concave curves.
The only downside was the learning curve - it took some time to get the hang of applying the wrap without messing it up. But once I got the hang of it, the results were impressive. Overall, the Vicrez magnetic fluorescent green car wrap is a fantastic product that I highly recommend.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Vicrez Vinyl Car Wrap Film in Chrome Satin Red, and I must say, I was quite impressed with the results! The installation process was a breeze with the help of the air release technology, and the vinyl was easy to work with, even for a novice like me.
One of the top features of this wrap is its realistic car paint look, which gives your vehicle a whole new dimension. It's also highly restorable, allowing for a quick fix if any wrinkles show up during installation. The vinyl is removable too, without damaging your car's paint, so you can switch up the look when you feel like it.
However, it's essential to note that the wrap isn't as easy to reposition once applied, so make sure you have your design in mind before finalizing the installation. The film is also quite thick at 6.4 mil, which adds to the durability but might make it a bit more challenging to apply in tight spaces.
Overall, I had a great experience using this wrap and would highly recommend it for anyone looking to give their car a unique, stylish makeover without breaking the bank. Plus, the wide variety of colors, textures, and finishes available ensures that you'll find the perfect fit for your vehicle.

The 4500psi Airrifle Air Gas Filling Pump is a sturdy and durable device that has saved me a lot of time and effort when it comes to air rifle maintenance. The high-pressure hand pump's built-in oil-water separator and ergonomic handle make it comfortable to use, while the foldable design allows for easy storage and transportation.
One of the most notable features of this pump is its precise pressure gauge. It provides easy-to-read parameters and ensures that I fill my PCP cylinders safely and accurately. Additionally, the complete accessory kit comes with O-rings and tools suitable for most PCP pistols, rifles, and air guns, making it a versatile option for various applications.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with its 301 stainless steel construction, as it required extra force to operate at higher pressure levels. This could be a potential concern for users with limited upper body strength.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the performance of this 4500psi Airrifle Air Gas Filling Pump. It's a cost-effective and efficient option for anyone looking to maintain their air rifle with ease.

🔗Daiwa BG8000 Saltwater Spinning Reel: Ultimate Fishing Companion

https://preview.redd.it/wgm2sy3f4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76a6f933913a4242df3ed58391432dd76ecaf423
As a passionate angler, I've recently had the pleasure of trying out the Daiwa BG series spinning reel - specifically the BG 3500 model. I must say, I've been thoroughly impressed by its performance and durability.
On my most recent fishing trip, I was battling a massive striped bass, eagerly testing the reel's capabilities. The BG 3500 held up admirably, impressing me with its impressive gear ratio that allowed for fast and efficient line retrieval. The line recovery was also impressive, making the entire fishing experience smoother and more enjoyable.
I appreciate the reel's sturdy construction, with the black anodized machined aluminum housing adding an extra layer of durability, ensuring it can withstand even the toughest of fishing scenarios. The secure screw-in handle further reinforced my confidence in the reel's reliability.
While the BG 3500 is slightly larger than some of its competitors, it delivers a superior fishing experience. It's equipped with six ball bearings, ensuring smooth operation and reducing wear and tear on the reel.
However, there is one downside I've encountered: the manual bail. As someone who prefers the convenience of automatic bails, it took some adjustment to get used to the manual one. Overall, I can't deny that the Daiwa BG series reels are a fantastic choice for any angler seeking superior performance and durability on their fishing adventures.

🔗Daiwa QZ 750 Spinning Reel: Perfect Mid-Size Fishing Companion

https://preview.redd.it/zbdgqmkf4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=509bdb8df805bdad5b5a599c3e0fdcdc1d6e4037
After using the Daiwa QZ 750 Spinning Reel for a while, I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the reel's lightweight build and sturdy frame make it perfect for trout, panfish, and ice fishing. The aluminum and cork construction ensure a comfortable grip, while the smooth 6 ball bearings provide a seamless experience when casting and reeling in.
However, I couldn't help but notice some downsides to this fishing reel. Firstly, the aluminum spool doesn't feel as sturdy as I expected, especially when using 4 or 6-pound mono or braided lines. Additionally, the handle's folding mechanism feels a bit flimsy, which concerns me in the long run.
Overall, the Daiwa QZ 750 Spinning Reel offers a good balance of performance and convenience at a reasonable price. While there are a few drawbacks, I do appreciate the smaller size, making it perfect for those who want a lightweight yet sturdy reel for various fishing needs.

🔗Lightweight Daiwa QC750 Ultralight Spinning Reel

As a fishing enthusiast, I've given the Daiwa QC750 Ultralight Spinning Reel a whirl in my trout and panfish setups. The product exceeded my expectations with its lightweight graphite frame and robust aluminum ABS spool, giving it the perfect balance for an enjoyable fishing experience.
However, I found its spool's tendency to unscrew slightly cumbersome, which was the only drawback in an otherwise remarkable product. For those who crave a smooth, compact reel for their ice-fishing escapades, the Daiwa QC750 Ultralight Spinning Reel is a perfect match.

Daiwa's Spinning Reel Mr 750 2019 model is an affordable, lightweight and compact reel perfect for hole fishing. With a winding length of 58 cm and a gear ratio of 5.1, it offers smooth operation and an easy-to-grip handle.
Weighing only 165g, this reel is incredibly lightweight, making it a breeze to use for extended periods of time. The reel also comes with a full range of specifications, making it ideal for beginners or as an introductory machine. Despite its compact size, it offers a maximum drag force of 3 kg and can handle a standard winding amount of Nylon.
The reel is available at a reasonable price on want. jp and comes in original condition, with no physical damage. The reel is easy to maintain, and in case of any issues, return requests can be submitted within 30 days after purchase. 🔗Daiwa Saltist Luxury Spinning Reel for Inshore and Offshore Fishing

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Daiwa Saltist Spinning Reel, and I have to say, it's been quite the fishing adventure. This thing is a real powerhouse in the world of fishing reels. The first thing that stood out to me was its smoothness, both in its line application and retrieval. The Daiwa Saltist has a top-notch carbon drag system that made it feel like I was in complete control of the fishing experience.
Another highlight of the Daiwa Saltist is its build. It's made of premium materials that are designed to withstand the saltwater environment without any issues. I've used this reel in a variety of fishing conditions, and it always comes out on top. Not to mention, the corrosion resistant ball bearings are a game changer, ensuring that the parts of the reel last longer without any significant wear and tear.
However, nothing's perfect, and I've noticed a few downsides to the Daiwa Saltist as well. While the overall build and construction are solid, the bail spring system can be difficult to operate when you're fighting a particularly aggressive fish. One time, I had a bit of trouble flipping the bail manually, causing me to momentarily lose control of the line. But that was just a one-off experience, and I haven't had any issues since then.
In addition, while the Daiwa Saltist is a fantastic reel for its price point, it does have a few flaws that might be irritating for long-term, hardcore anglers. For example, the handle tends to become sticky after a while, which can be inconvenient when you're trying to reel in a big one.
Overall, I'd highly recommend the Daiwa Saltist Spinning Reel for both beginners and experienced anglers alike. With its high-quality construction, smooth operation, and affordable price, it's a great addition to any fishing gear collection.

🔗Daiwa Legalis LT Spinning Reel: Lightweight, Innovative, and Sensitive

https://preview.redd.it/bk09uezg4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccf52f857b31fa437beab09a3ab0b1ea6605e04d
I recently had the chance to test out the Daiwa Legalis LT Spinning Reel, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience! As a seasoned fisherman, I've used my fair share of reels, but this one stood out for a variety of reasons.
First off, the reel is incredibly lightweight, yet still sturdy and tough. The LT body, made of a carbon-based composite, is both lighter and more durable than traditional materials. I found it made long days of fishing much less exhausting.
One impressive feature was the Air Rotor and Air Bail. The rotor is designed to be smooth and friction-free, allowing the line to glide easily, while the bail delivers maximum rigidity and strength with minimal weight. This made for a great balance and added sensitivity to my fishing experience.
The reel also boasts Daiwa's innovative Automatic Tournament Drag. This drag grease is designed for smooth start-up, making it perfect for those critical hook-ups. It provided a smooth and consistent drag throughout my fishing sessions.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks I encountered. The bail operation was a bit tricky, and I found myself manually closing it more often than not. Additionally, I noticed that the retrieve was slightly slower than some of my other reels.
Overall, the Daiwa Legalis LT Spinning Reel provided a balanced and smooth fishing experience, perfect for those looking for a reliable and lightweight reel. While it wasn't without its flaws, it certainly earned its spot in my tackle box.

🔗Daiwa Tanacom 750: High-Performance Deep Drop Fishing Reel with 4BB Design

https://preview.redd.it/h95w7t8h4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cc0a80c5c22ad74e19f82b9fe4933f80ee9076d
Imagine a day out on the water, casting your line and waiting with anticipation for a bite. With the Daiwa Tanacom 750 Reel, your chances of catching that elusive fish increase dramatically. This reel is designed for saltwater fishing, allowing you to drop your bait hundreds of feet down to lure in big game.
One feature that really stands out is its oversized stainless steel line guide aperture. This not only enhances the reel's durability but also makes it easier to handle large knots and kite swivels. The smooth operation of the reel is made possible by its four bearing system (4BB), ensuring a pleasant and effortless experience for the user.
However, there are a few minor drawbacks to consider as well. The reel's winding speed can be controlled by the Power Lever, which is a great feature, but it may take some time to get used to. Additionally, while the reel sports a programmable Auto Stop feature, it may take some experimentation to find the perfect line spooling distance for your specific needs.
In conclusion, the Daiwa Tanacom 750 Reel is a versatile and powerful tool for saltwater fishing. Its impressive features and consistent performance make it a worthwhile investment for any avid angler. Just remember to factor in the minor drawbacks when making your decision, and you'll be ready to embark on your next deep-sea adventure.

🔗High-Performance Daiwa BG8000 Saltwater Spinning Reel for Advanced Anglers

https://preview.redd.it/p8qv97uh4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19b3e05d0856b1e7d2e81289f4bde4d809140bea
As a devoted angler, I've spent countless hours searching for the perfect fishing reel that could withstand the rigors of the sport while still providing top-notch performance. That's why when I stumbled upon the Daiwa BG8000 Saltwater Spinning Reel, I knew I had to give it a try.
From the moment I unboxed the reel, I was impressed by its sleek design and robust build. The solid black anodized machined aluminum housing exuded a sense of durability that was music to my ears, and the secure screw-in handle added an extra layer of reassurance.
The Daiwa BG8000 truly shines when it comes to digigear technology. The larger tooth pattern on the gears significantly extended their lifespan, making them three times more durable than other reels in the market. Gone were the days of worrying about gear wear, as this reel proved to be a dependable companion on my fishing adventures.
One aspect of the reel that I found particularly beneficial was its ratio of 5.3:1. The resulting line recovery of 135 cm by turn of the crank allowed me to retrieve my line with ease, whether I was battling a feisty bass in freshwater or a hard-fighting tuna in saltwater.
Despite its impressive features, the Daiwa BG8000 was not without its drawbacks. The manual bail took some getting used to, especially after having grown accustomed to automatic spinners. Additionally, I noticed a slight weight disparity between the Daiwa and its competitors, but this was a minor trade-off in exchange for its durability and performance.
In conclusion, the Daiwa BG8000 Saltwater Spinning Reel proved to be a game-changer in my angling experience. Its rock-solid construction, digigear technology, and exceptional line recovery made it a worthy addition to my arsenal. While it may not be perfect, its pros outweigh its cons, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for any angler seeking a reel that can handle a variety of fishing scenarios and deliver unmatched performance.

I've been using the Daiwa Laguna LT Spinning Reel for a while now, and I must say it's a game-changer for those who love fishing. The reel is designed with a True Carbon Frame, which is both lightweight and incredibly rigid, reducing the overall weight of the reel without compromising its strength.
The Air Rotor System is another standout feature that enhances balance and rotation, making the reel much more efficient and smooth. I was particularly impressed with the reel's performance, as it boasts 3 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing, providing a silky smooth feel during use.
One aspect that I truly enjoy about this reel is the Machined Aluminum handle, which is both comfortable and ergonomically designed. It's a perfect fit in my hand, and the oversized knob really makes a difference.
Although I had no issues with the reel, it might not have the most robust anti-reverse feature. However, that's a minor concern given the overall quality and price of the Laguna LT Spinning Reel.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a versatile and high-quality spinning reel that won't break the bank, the Daiwa Laguna LT is definitely worth considering. Its lightweight design, smooth performance, and comfortable grip make it a top choice for anglers of all skill levels.

The Daiwa QR750 QR Ultralight Spinning Reel is a compact and lightweight option for those seeking a reel that's easy to handle yet powerful enough to tackle serious trout panfish and ice fishing adventures. Weighing in at just a few ounces, this reel is designed to pair perfectly with delicate ultra-light rods, offering a seamless and buttery-smooth operation, thanks to the carefully positioned 3 ball bearings.
One of the standout features of this reel is its ABS aluminum spool, which provides the perfect balance between strength and lightness, making it well-suited for both monofilament and braided lines within a 4 to 8 pound range. Additionally, the aluminum quick-release handle ensures that the reel remains lightweight, while also offering the convenience of being easily adjustable for either left or right-handed users.
While the Daiwa QR750 QR Ultralight Spinning Reel has its fair share of positive reviews, some users have reported minor drawbacks, such as resistance during operation and noise when reeling the line in. However, these issues seem to be relatively minor compared to the numerous benefits this reel offers for those looking to invest in an affordable yet high-quality ultralight spinning reel.

https://preview.redd.it/cv23f3vi4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d46c288154df3149f521c4d481430b0c36e9b817
I've been using the Daiwa 2022 Model Cardia SW Spinning Reel for my fishing adventures, and I must say it's been a game-changer. The one-piece aluminum crank screwed into the frame has made a huge difference, providing much better support for the internal mechanics. It's perfect for both sea and freshwater coarse fishing, with the 15kg brake featuring ATD technology offering a more progressive and stable drag during battles.
One thing that really stands out is the LC-ABS Long Cast spool, which optimizes casting distances. Whether I'm casting from the bank, the beach, or a boat, it's incredibly effective. However, I noticed a few things that could use improvement. The spool can be a bit heavy at times, making my arm feel tired after long sessions. Additionally, the drag sound can be quite loud, which can be frustrating when trying to be stealthy. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this reel and would recommend it to fellow anglers.

🔗Daiwa Crossfire LT Spinning Reel: Lightweight, Durable, and Versatile Fishing Gear

The Daiwa Crossfire LT Spinning Reel has proved to be a gem in my fishing adventures. It's lightweight yet sturdy, with its solid ABS aluminum Spool that resists flexing and distorting. The deep Spool design also holds plenty of line yardage, making it perfect for both freshwater and light saltwater fishing.
One of the most impressive features of this reel is the cold forged and precision milled digigears. The state-of-the-art manufacturing process optimizes the meshing between the main and pinion gears, resulting in an incredibly smooth operation. The machined aluminum handle not only adds a touch of elegance but also provides a firm grip and positive torque to the main gear.
I was particularly impressed by the variety of reel sizes available, ranging from 1000 to 5000, catering to different fishing styles and preferences. The J Braid Capacity also makes it versatile and adaptable to various fishing lines.
However, there were a couple of minor drawbacks. The reel does not come with detailed instructions, which might cause some initial confusion for beginners. Additionally, the reel's performance in heavy saltwater environments remains untested, although it seems to be suitable for light saltwater.
Overall, the Daiwa Crossfire LT Spinning Reel is a high-quality product that offers great value for money. It's designed for a wide range of fishing conditions and delivers a smooth, reliable performance, making it a solid choice for any angler.

Buyer's Guide

Welcome to the Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel Buyer's Guide! Here, we'll dive into the key features, considerations, and general advice when looking for the perfect spinning reel for your next fishing adventure. We'll also cover how to use these features to make the best purchasing decision for you, all without listing specific product picks or external resources.

Important Features

Line Capacity

One of the most crucial features to consider when purchasing a spinning reel is its line capacity. The Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel has a line capacity of 7/80 lb, which is more than sufficient for most fishing applications. Make sure to check the line capacity rating before making your purchase, as it will determine the type of line you can use and the fish you can land.

https://preview.redd.it/5ay5b1pm4p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bec268dde7ec6ea9725f1a75687bc42953fbd727

Ball Bearing Count

The number of ball bearings is another important factor in determining the smoothness and durability of a spinning reel. The Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel has 3 ball bearings, which provides a decent balance between performance and price. Some high-end reels might have more ball bearings, while others may have fewer, depending on the model and manufacturer. Ensure you choose a reel with the appropriate number of ball bearings for your intended use.

Drag System

A well-functioning drag system is essential for maintaining control of the fish during a fight. The Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel features a front drag system, which allows you to adjust the drag pressure easily. Pay attention to the drag pressure settings and choose a reel with a suitable drag system for the fish species you plan to target.

Gear Ratio

The gear ratio of a spinning reel determines its retrieval speed. The Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel has a gear ratio of 5.4:1, which provides a good balance between power and speed. Consider your intended use when choosing the gear ratio for your reel. A slower gear ratio will be beneficial for larger fish species, while a faster ratio may be ideal for smaller or more agile prey.

Considerations

Budget

When purchasing a Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel or any other spinning reel, your budget will play a significant role in your decision. Research the market and determine a realistic budget before making your purchase to ensure you find a reel that fits your needs and price range.

Intended Use

Another critical factor to consider is the intended use of the reel. Spinning reels are designed for various fishing applications, such as freshwater, saltwater, or ice fishing. Make sure to choose a reel that suits your needs based on the environment you'll be fishing in and the species you plan to target.

Maintenance

A spinning reel's lifespan is significantly influenced by how well you maintain it. Ensure your reel is properly cleaned and lubricated after each use to prolong its lifespan and maintain optimal performance. Research the recommended maintenance schedule for your chosen reel and stick to it.

Reviews

Before making a purchase, it's always a good idea to read reviews from other buyers who have already used the Daiwa 750 Spinning Reel or similar products. This will give you a better understanding of the reel's performance, durability, and potential issues you might encounter.

Test Before Using

Once you've purchased your spinning reel, it's essential to test it before using it for a valuable fishing experience. Practice casting and retrieving techniques to familiarize yourself with the reel, as well as to ensure it's functioning correctly.

Customer Support

Finally, don't forget about the importance of customer support when purchasing a spinning reel. Research the manufacturer's reputation for customer service and warranties before making your decision. Having a reliable support system in place can make all the difference if you encounter any issues with your reel.

2024.05.26 04:50 spoogity E85 Z4 6-Speed Transmission Swapped into E46 ZHP Coupe

E85 Z4 6-Speed Transmission Swapped into E46 ZHP Coupe
TLDR: 03-'05 Z4 3.0 6-speed transmission works in the E46 and is way cheaper and sometimes easier to find than a '04-'06 E46 6-speed transmission without any obvious issues or drawbacks.
2005 330ci ZHP, 83k miles, Alpine on Alcantara. Bought it from an salvage auction website with a rebuilt title for $7600 . It has minor body damage to the right rear quarter that was enough to total it. Not the prettiest but it drives flawlessly. Seriously. Only issue I had, it was an automatic.
Hey all, just wanted to make this post on the off-chance that someone planning to 6-speed swap their E46 comes across this, and wants to do the swap on a \relatively cheaper** budget. I just finished my swap today so I'm going to do my best to consolidate all the info I initially struggled to find into one neat little post.
Since there are so many guides and videos out there already, I won't be making this a full tutorial, more of a personal journey with this and a few things I ran into along the way. I used guides and videos from E46Fanatics, ShopLifeTV, and That50sKid to make this happen. I also cross referenced RealOEM.com for part numbers between the E85 and E46. This was the most valuable resource I had when getting parts together.
For starters, I can 100% confirm that the E85 Z4 6-speed transmission works beautifully for this swap, or specifically the *ahem\* 03-'05 E85 Z4 3.0i GS6-37BZ THEA transmission. I scoured forums and posts looking for confirmation, but ultimately took a risk on a $910 ($1318 w/ tax+ship) ZF 6-speed with 99k miles from a Z4 because I found nothing on the topic. Unless I missed something, I could not find anyone who did it and posted about it.
Listing on eBay, donor car was a 2004 Z4 with 99k miles. Similar E46 ZF 6-speed was listed for $1600 before shipping at the time that I bought this.
I went with this one due to the massively increased price for the E46 GS6-37BZ THEG transmission. At the time, a similar gearbox with 140k miles was listed on eBay for over $1600 before shipping, so the cost difference can be huge if you find the right one. There are no obvious differences between the THEA and THEG transmissions from what I can tell, but I didn't exactly have two to compare side-by-side. I'll post a breakdown of the cost I paid at the end of the post.
Garbage GM automatic out, thing was too damn heavy and I needed an engine hoist to get it off the transmission jack.
E85 Z4 Specific Compatibility
-Use an E46 clutch and flywheel. Not the Z4 one. The E46 uses a larger diameter kit, but will still fit in the Z4 bellhousing. Side note, my kit came with a new throw out bearing, and I reused the fork, ball pin, and spring clip. Everything is the same as per RealOEM.com
-For E85 vs. E46, the hardware to mount the transmission is exactly the same. Keep in mind, the crossmember (rubber mount to chassis) is different with auto vs. manuals. New part was less than $60 new though. But it's the same part as what's on the Z4, in case your transmission comes with it.
-Pedal assembly seems to be the same with the E85 and E46. The one I bought came from a 2003 Z4 but was missing the clutch position sensor, which may or may or may not be relevant.
-Driveshaft is the same with E46 coupes and sedans, but not auto to manual. Z4 driveshaft won't work either. Get a 6-speed manual E46 driveshaft. It'll be hard to find, but it's necessary. If you come across one in good shape, prioritize getting it. I was searching for a couple weeks before I found one. They can be bought new as well for close to $900 if nothing else is available.
-I'm not 100% sure what the exact gearing is on the Z4 transmission, but I will say, with the ZHP auto diff I ran at 3300rpm in 6th @ 80mph on the highway. Could stand to be a bit lower for long distance cruising, but it's fine for me.
Back of the engine, right before RMS replacement and flywheel installation. Z4 transmission is chilling on the pallet in the background.
Standard E46 Manual Swap Info
-When you buy your flywheel, the pilot bearing is already installed. There isn't any need to buy one separate. I now have a spare pilot bearing...
-KEEP YOUR SHIFT INTERLOCK CABLE. Yes I'm a neat freak about the leftover cables. Yes I took it out and panicked because I couldn't take the key out. Leave it in and bundle it up under the trim panels.
-ALSO KEEP YOUR SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. I threw mine out like a moron and the car thought it was in drive so I couldn't start it. At some point I bumped it out of neutral and couldn't change it back even with trying to jump the connector wires. See the next point for the fix.
-When swapping from the GM auto to the manual, I wired up the clutch switch then completely removed the EGS/TCM. Doing this completely killed communication to it and allowed me to start the car. Assuming everything is correct up until this point, it should start just fine.
-Make sure your pedal set actually has both a clutch switch and brake switch, my dumb ass didn't realize until the car was completely apart that I didn't have it.
-Buy the clutch switch wiring harness from here. It's worth the $25 to wire in the clutch switch without needing to find scrap wire off of another car. With this I didn't need to use anything more than a pocket screwdriver, a wire cuttestripper, and a lighter to do the wiring. Clutch switch wiring with this harness is as follows:
Pin 1: Brown - Ground (see below)
Pin 2: Blue - Pin 23 at the DME (second connector from the left when looking straight at the DME)
Pin 3: Purple - 12V power (see below)
Pin 4: Black - Pin 8 at the EWS/Immobilizer
To simplify the wiring, cut the wires at pins 1 and 2 for the brake sensor (Yellow/Purple, Black/Brown), strip them, match brown to brown and purple to purple, twist the stripped ends of the matching colors together and shove it into one end of a butt connector. Shove the remaining single matching wire into the other end, crimp, and heat to seal. Clean way to do a dirty wiring job.
-At the time of this post after I did the swap, I did not do the reverse light switch wiring or the coding for the car. When (or if) I get to this I will update this post with any more relevant information. The car drives fine with the gearbox light on, but haven't tried to use cruise control and most likely will avoid it.
Z4 manual transmission in. Had to jack the front of the engine up to get it to fit around the firewall, but other than that it went in just fine.
And for anyone curious, my total parts cost after tax and shipping was $4,108.12. Breakdown w/o tax+ship:
Transmission: $910 (eBay) Note: 2003 Z4 3.0 w/ 99k miles
Driveshaft: $300 (FB) Note: 2005 330ci vert w/ 176k miles
Pedals: $200 (eBay) Note: 2003 Z4 incl. master cylinder and brake sensor, missing clutch sensor
Valeo Flywheel w/ Clutch: $1250 (FB) Note: I struck gold when I picked this up second hand new along with BC Racing coilovers, it's cheaper to buy it from a retailer but for transparency I included the full price I paid
Shifter Assembly: $100 (eBay) Note: I needed to buy a new selector rod, clips, washers, and carrier bushing. +$203, results may vary
Clutch Lines: $133 (FCP)
ZHP Shift Knob: $96 (FCP)
Flex Disk/Guibo: $63 (FCP)
Transmission Crossmember: $58 (FCP)
Rear Main Seal Gaskets: $16 (FCP)
Clutch Position Sensor: $98 (BMW Dealership)
Misc Bolts, Fluids, Wires, Etc.: $200 (FCP & BMW Dealership) Note: Your cost may differ +/- $50 depending on what you need specifically.
Keep in mind, you may have varied costs depending on what you decide to reuse, if you buy local, buy used/new, so forth and so on. This is just what I personally paid and what I had to work with.
Drove it home, still need a shift boot and the foam insert. Took me about 2 full days with a shop lift and heavy duty transmission jack. Clutch engagement was perfect and shifter feels nice and notchy. None of the gears struggle to go into place and I just used Febi 75W-80 fluid, nothing fancy.
Couple of final notes, little things such as the clutch pedal dead stop, body plug for the old shifter cable, and clutch hose grommet should be considered. They aren't life threatening if you decide to skip it, but definitely keep an eye out for those if you find them. And if it's used, and it's made of rubber or plastic, you should probably replace it.
Overall, it wasn't the worst job. Total hours spent doing this (including fucking around and losing tools) was around 12-14 hours. Could be done faster by the right person, but I hadn't done so much as a clutch job before this. Disclaimer, I'm a Euro dealership technician professionally so my resources were much better than most. This would be a lot harder in a driveway with basic tools, so don't expect a 2-day turnaround if you DIY this at home.
Ask any questions, I'll answer them the best I can when I have the time to do so. Thanks for reading!

2024.05.26 02:16 berry_baby Driveway trench drain clogged

I just bought a house that has a driveway trench (?) drain at the bottom just before the garage. I don’t know where the end of the drain is. It has been raining for the last few days and the water has not drained at all and has been sitting there. There’s mosquitoes everywhere and it smells awful. I’m pretty sure it overflowed at one point and backed into the garage too.
I tried pulling out any silt and leaves manually but it won’t drain. I even got a pressure washer with a sewer jetter to dislodge whatever is in there but it still won’t work. I can only get the hose to reach about 4 ft before it won’t go any further. I’m not sure if the blockage is too dense or big to remove or if the pipe itself has collapsed and is causing the blockage.
Please let me know if you have any ideas. This is driving me crazy.

2024.05.25 22:56 12IsPro What else do i need to start my business?

Looking to start my business asap since I have somewhat of a client list already. Here are the tools i have: - air compressor - tornador max - shop vac and attachments - detailing brushes - pressure washer - dewalt polishebuffer
this is what i have in my shopping list: - tornador enzyme $12 - adam’s polishing wheel and tire cleanser $22 - adam’s suede applicator $8 - adam’s black trim restorer $18 - adam’s glass cleaner $17 - adam’s car bug remover $13 - adam’s iron remover $16 - kochemhcine leather star $22 - adam’s shampoo ultra foam $52
Let me know what I am missing and what could work better with my tools. I’m planning to use the enzyme and the tornador as my all purpose interior cleaner but i’m not sure if I should be doing that.
If anyone can help and give me some insight on what to change how to do it and even how to price my services i’d be appreciative.

2024.05.25 22:09 OceanPlumbingandAir Technological Advances in Sewer Line Repair

The field of sewer line repair has seen significant technological advances in recent years. These innovations not only improve the efficiency and effectiveness of repairs but also minimize disruption and environmental impact. This post explores the latest technologies shaping sewer line repair, with a focus on solutions for sewer line troubleshooting Hollywood.
Innovative Diagnostic Technologies
One of the most crucial stages in sewer line repair is accurate diagnosis. Technological advancements have significantly enhanced this phase:
  1. Video Camera Inspections: High-definition cameras can now be inserted into sewer lines to provide real-time, detailed views of the interior conditions of pipes. This method helps in identifying blockages, cracks, and other issues without the need for excavation.
  2. Sonic Profiling: This technology uses sound waves to assess the integrity of underground pipes. It is especially useful in detecting voids and anomalies in the surrounding soil that could potentially cause pipe failure.
  3. GIS and GPS Mapping: Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology are used to accurately map and record the location of underground sewer lines. This is crucial for future maintenance and avoiding accidental damages during other excavation works.
Repair Technologies
After diagnosing the problem, the next step is to apply the most effective repair technology:
  1. Trenchless Repair Methods: Technologies such as pipe bursting and cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining allow for the repair or replacement of sewer lines without the need for extensive trench digging. This not only reduces the repair time but also conserves the landscape and is less disruptive to the community.
  2. Robotic Cutting: Robots equipped with cutting tools can enter sewer lines and remove obstructions such as roots and hardened deposits. These robots are controlled remotely, reducing the need for manual intervention and increasing safety.
  3. Hydro Jetting: This method uses high-pressure water streams to clear out blockages and buildup inside sewer pipes. It is highly effective and environmentally friendly, as it uses only water to achieve its results.
Benefits of Technological Advancements
The benefits of these technological advancements in sewer line repair are manifold:
  1. Increased Accuracy: Enhanced diagnostic capabilities lead to more accurate repairs, ensuring that the actual problem is addressed without unnecessary work.
  2. Cost Efficiency: Though the upfront cost of some advanced technologies can be high, they often result in lower overall repair costs by preventing future issues and reducing the need for repeated interventions.
  3. Environmental Sustainability: Minimally invasive technologies reduce the ecological footprint of repair activities, preserving more of the natural and built environment.
Conclusion
Technological advancements in sewer line repair are revolutionizing how we maintain and improve our sewer infrastructure. For residents and businesses in Hollywood, these innovations mean quicker, more reliable, and less intrusive sewer line troubleshooting and repair. As the industry continues to evolve, embracing these technologies will become increasingly important in managing urban infrastructure efficiently and sustainably.

I beat the full Pyanodons suite
My base
https://preview.redd.it/2iusbyntlm2d1.jpg?width=1094&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a399f0705c74f6faaf8318e21b299908c4f6e0d9
https://i.redd.it/cdwigtkzyl2d1.gif
https://i.redd.it/9i5loe8gyl2d1.gif
It took me about 5 months. I played about 40 hours a week (working part time in real life helped)
I built my computer for Factorio last year. It has a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 16GB of 3200Mhz DDR4 ram. I have a RTX 3060 but its probably overkill for Factorio.
My base produced and consumed almost a trillion liters of fluids! 37 million science produced? 179 million creatures slaughtered lol. And 30 billion items produced and consumed.
7177hours?
I’ll explain the hours. I’m using a time speed mod. In the beginning it would run at time 10 speed (600 ups) but the bigger the base got the slower the top speed got. I’m now running between 40 to 80 ups. The time speed mod does affect your total play time proportionally to the speed it goes. (1 hour of real time at 10x speed adds 10 hours to your playtime)
Because so many things in pY are made slowly, I would leave the game running overnight . That way before heading to work in the morning I make sure every demand has been met and nothing stalled. Most of the time I waited for every demand to be met before advancing in the tech tree.
I did not create a train station for every item, the items that did not go on trains only got moved around by bots. I put programable speakers with with notification on these items to give me a pop up when a chest was empty, that helped a lot in avoiding stalls in production.
I do not have a global bot network, but a main one around my mall and a couple smaller independent bot networks. One bot network for metal plates, one for canned food, one for plants and seeds, one for creatures, etc. I keep all the machines that make expensive items in small quantities in my mall bot network
I have 3 types of trains in my LTN network. 1-1 trains, 1-3 trains and 1-6-1 trains. The 1-1 trains are mostly for bringing liquids to my bot network by tankers, I love using bots and barrels. My liquid receiving stations barrel the liquids for the bots. The 1-6-1 trains are for things needed in bulk.
My base is very spread out because after unlocking Tier 3 modules, beacons and Mk4 buildings, i went around upgrading and shrinking my production chains. I needed much less buildings now for the same output. Also, I'd many rebuild entire city blocks many times in the playthrough. I rebuilt my metal plate city block 3 times. I would build a better city block somewhere else and then delete the old one.
LTN Manager
The LTN Manager mod is truly awesome! So right now I have no items requested because every demand is met in my base.
My base has 239 trains and 1089 train stations.

I used The RSO mod and these settings. I created a infinite desert with no water or cliffs. After finishing sea block, I liked the look of only sand, I found it makes the base look cleaner.
With these settings, I only had to build new mining outposts rarely,
Mods used?
Nice try, train: makes you invincible to trains. Getting run over by trains got old very fast
quality of life research: I made myself walk very fast to cross my big base. I also made my self handcraft items very fast. I also gave my self a very big inventory
High pressure pipes: gives you green colored pipes and pumps that carry 5000 liters.
Merging chests: lets you make a chest of any size up to 42 chest long, great for making compact LTN stations and early "splitters".
Deadlock stackers and loaders: as a rule of thumb, anything sent on a train that was produced at least 15 items/sec was shipped stacked. 2000 stacks of 5 items loaded and unloaded much faster from trains then 10000 unstacked items.
BIG BROTHER: I covered my whole base in radars so I can zoom in anywhere. with quality of life research, I gave my self 10000 reach so i could zoom in anywhere and plop down a teleporter. I could also zoom in to my mall and grab items.
Teleporters: lets you plop down teleporters.
Robot replacer: Very good mod to automatically upgrade bots,
Train Upgrader: automatically sends trains to be upgraded.
Ore eraser: I erased ore patches in my rail grid for a cleaner look.
Lawnmower: makes the base even cleaner!
Helmod: I could not of done it without Helmod! I'm obsessed with ratios. It can be finicky to use, but i find it useful to reverse the production chains. Start with iron ore and finish with iron plates for example.
Rate calculator: great for quickly upgrading one section at a time without needing Helmod.
Factory search: VERY useful. you can search for any building, any item where its made and even what LTN station demands a certain item. (Searching the LTN network does freeze the game a little but it never crashed the game)
BASE TOUR:
https://preview.redd.it/eu63y2znbm2d1.png?width=1394&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6c50b715bce86eb9e4f5ce35f3263eedcb446c8
The MK4 steam turbine in this picture powers my entire base. its peak output is 2.4 TW (2400 GW) if you give it 60k/sec of 5000°C steam.
I only used Geothermal power in this playthrough. I do have one nuclear reactor, but it was needed to make tritium for utility science.
I had 25 trains bringing in geyser water from 200 geysers from across the map. This gave me 12K/s of 5000 degree steam., which is one 5th of 60K/s
So i can potentially get one 5th of 2.4TW with this setup, 480 GW
The highest power consumption I ever saw my base use was 200 GW.
https://preview.redd.it/ukra8y7ucm2d1.png?width=350&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4ca1add4dd4fc9a2e953fa142bc8bd052ff2874
The most complex recipe I came across, took a couple hours for my mall to build it.
My Mall bot network
Center of my Mall
Center of my mall, the busiest part of my base with the highest bot and train traffic. But not anymore since I beat the modpack and my base isn't producing anything anymore.
https://preview.redd.it/ytjpl7fhgm2d1.png?width=665&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a19e0144abc978341f159e210921dbadacc742a
I used almost exclusively bots and barrels for liquids in my mall. I had a factory that would top my storage warehouses int the center of my mall with barrels if they had less than 1000 barrels.
Sample barrel station
My empty barrels got sent to the center of my mall to storage warehouses
intelligent unit, the highest tier of circuits
The advantage of using barrels is that if I wanted to move my entire intelligent unit production chain, i could copy and paste it without worrying about connecting pipes.
Beacons seem complicated, but they work a little like in Space Exploration. only 1 beacon can touch a machine at time. I just made all my beacons AM3:FM3. This setting also gives it a similar range to the Nexelit substation. The blue tower in the bottom of the image above is a pY beacon surrounded by 2 nexelit substations. When using Helmod, you have to change the setting of the beacon touching 4 machines to 1 machine for Helmod to compute accurately.
My busiest LTN station
https://preview.redd.it/9tywbldtjm2d1.png?width=1367&format=png&auto=webp&s=983eee9448ab4a7cf866f645d8b810af89b462ca
For LTN liquid stations I used the under ground tank mod and the long underground tank mod. great for very fast loading unloading.
https://preview.redd.it/y8nnlp56mm2d1.png?width=1102&format=png&auto=webp&s=6a51d42a6d3e695c71db1d3ea4246dde51b342b1
Science with vat brains. the labs only got power if every science pack had at least 1000 stored in its warehouse thanks to the power switch and a couple decider combinators. I also had to manually build one power pole when there was science to research. I destroyed the power pole if nothing was ready to research. I did not find a way to fully automate this.
For science my base makes:
automation: 30/sec
Py1 12/sec
logistic: 6.66/sec
Py2: 3.33/sec
military: 3.33/sec
chemical: 2/sec
Py3: 1/sec
production: 0.66/sec
Py4: 0.33/sec
utility: 0.33/sec
space 0.33/sec

2024.05.25 21:27 burntwafflemaker MBTI and Flow

If you have not read the book “Flow” please do. As an ISTP I had to read it about 3 pages at a time. All the Ne had to be coaxed into my system and I have to write down 50 real world applications to every concept to feel comfortable with it. It was a grind.
I constantly found myself relating “Flow” to MBTI. I feel strongly that we experience Flow when our ego (top 4 functions) and subconscious (bottom 4 functions) are able to communicate unimpeded while engaging in an activity that meets the needs of your type preferences.
For me, I know I experience Flow during the following activities: 1) interviewing someone/typing someone: diving into someone’s cognitions, finding their feelings, connecting those feelings to concepts I’ve learned about others; making sense of their feelings and what has led them to becoming how they are now; helping them identify things they do and why (especially things that they might be a little insecure about doing). Most of all my flow state in these moments is furthered by those people telling me they’ve never understood themselves better than they do after we talk.
2) winning a competition: trying hard at something in a definable space and being able to translate those efforts into positive, measurable results next to someone else (or myself at a previous time). Inarguable competence produces dopamine I never want to end.
3) fixing broken things (especially something I have 0 experience with): diagnose the problem, confirm diagnosis, design a fix, implement, see positive results. I fixed a pressure washer without having ever touched a motor. I installed my kitchen floors having never so much as purchased a saw. I actually have the confidence at this junction in my life that I can figure out what’s wrong with and find a fix for most things (with obvious specialized exceptions).
There are plenty of other examples but my flow states are based on me existing in a definable, constant space (avoiding Ne trickster blindness), short term hyper focused attachment (Si expectation is low), easy to trace and understand feelings (Fi fluency), and limited actions for me to understand and become competent in (realistic Te effectiveness expectations), tangible positive benefit(s) to others (Fe), predictable outcomes (Ni), chaos to organize (Se), and a huge opportunity to learn and gather info (Ti).
I loved the book about Flow but the biggest thing that has stuck with me is that the most common way to ruin Flow is to notice or question if you’re in Flow. Even if you can resume it, stopping to ask yourself if you’re happy, having a good time, or even, specifically, “am I in Flow?” stops it. This leads to a very important observation: finding what makes you happy is just as important as pursuing it relentlessly.
What do y’all think?

2024.05.25 18:51 Yisusglez10 Problem assembling elevating desk.

I have a problem when assembling this desk (Image 1), and that is that the middle support (#6) that joins both bases (#5) does not have holes. I wonder if it is like that or is it wrong. What happens is that when inserting the screws they exert pressure directly on the bar and therefore do not go in completely. I tried to represent the problem (Image 3, open the image) based on the manual (Image 2). I have thought about drilling it but would like an opinion or someone who can help me please?e?

2024.05.25 18:19 mining_moron Civilian Kyanah Technology: Part II -- Transport and Infrastructure

Terrestrial transport is heavily dominated by nuclear power, not just in the military sector, but also for civilian transport. Unlike on Earth, where nuclear energy is often met with public skepticism, red tape and safety concerns, Kyanah city-states in affluent regions have adopted nuclear-powered airlines--traveling at Mach 2--and trains with little to no regard for such concerns. Suborbital transit via spaceplanes is sometimes used by packs of high-ranking executives, politicians, or diplomats who don't have time to waste sitting in a plane for hours. Nuclear-powered trucks are also not uncommon; as their homeworld is a super-Earth with no oceans, routes can get extremely long (Ikun-Kanenhah is about 30,000 km by road and it's not even the longest route on the planet), and not needing gas stations or charging areas can be very handy. Even some nuclear powered cars for individual packs have been developed, though the complexities of cramming a nuclear reactor and radiation shielding under a car hood make them a premium item, starting at the equivalent of approximately $100,000 in human terms--though some say this is made up for by the convenience of being able to just get in and drive, without ever worrying about plebian matters like fueling or recharging. For most packs in developed city-states, electric cars are the norm instead, with advances in battery life via room temperature superconductors rivalling or exceeding ICEs. However, some older coal-powered ones--the only naturally occurring fossil fuel, due to the lack of oceans--can be seen, and are quite numerous in poor and developing city-states. Notably, many consumer cars tend to be much larger than on Earth, almost like vans; as packless Kyanah aren't generally in a position to afford cars, and those with packs rarely if ever have any reason to drive anywhere without their packs, cars must be made to accommodate entire packs, with 4-6 adults plus however many young they may have.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Kyanahs' devil-may-care attitude towards nuclear power extends to nuclear bombs as well. In fact, peaceful nuclear detonations make up a majority of the nuclear detonations on the Kyanah homeworld, outnumbering nuclear tests and acts of war combined. As per Ikun's policy of nuclear monopoly, no other city-state is allowed to develop nuclear weapons, but Ikun itself has performed thousands of peaceful detonations, both for its own projects and occasionally, on request from one of its allies. Such projects include flattening extremely large areas of terrain for infrastructure megaprojects (including road and rail links through impact various ranges, or flattening areas for building in said impact ranges), exposing valuable mineral deposits for mining, and even using the craters generated by nukes to create several artificial oases; at least 18 independent city-states have been created from scratch around such oases--this has occasionally been used by Ikun as a means of creating pro-Ikun regimes in areas where overthrowing an existing city-state was deemed impractical. Nukes have also been used by Ikun to power Raiun-cannons, which as the name suggests are essentially large cannons that use a nuclear explosion rather than a chemical one to propel thousand-ton payloads into space; the equivalent human term is "Wang Bullet". However, these have largely fallen out of fashion with the development of SSTO nuclear spaceplanes that can carry more delicate payloads and not destroy the launch site with every use. As it has been 66 Earth years--more than the average Kyanah lifetime--since the Day of Tower Clouds and almost 40 since the last nuclear annihilation by Ikun, the average Kyanah in Ikun is more likely to associate nukes with projects like these than with a nuclear holocaust--though in some places, the nuclear annihilations early in Ikun's Hegemony Era cast a long shadow even in the present day.
Many large-scale, and even planetary-scale infrastructure projects do exist on the Kyanah homeworld, but anything that extends between multiple city-states is almost invariably an emergent phenomenon that has emerged from many different entities independently building infrastructure for their own economic and strategic needs, often following historic trade routes. For instance, while almost all known medium sized (population >131k) and large (population >1.04M) city-states are connected via paved roads, there is no centralized figure behind this, like with the Interstate Highway System, and the network constantly changes as entities stop maintaining highways that no longer suit their interests, and others decide to construct their own. While such highways are in the open land between city-states, which is legally considered in a manner similar to international waters on Earth, whatever entity commissioned the building of a particular road or railway through open land is considered to own it and be responsible for it. Quality varies considerably, ranging from two-lane pothole-strewn death traps in the middle of nowhere to eight-lane smart highways that display alerts and information holographically, automatically inform maintainers about needed repairs via wireless sensors, and communicate with autonomous vehicles to allow them to navigate smoothly; city streets in wealthy city-states also share these features. Some roads in the Rktakian Kwardniet have the ability to wirelessly transfer power to compatible electric vehicles for a toll, reducing the need to stop and charge. Paved roads are usually built from some form of concrete rather than asphalt and in wealthy regions, are sometimes seeded with nanoparticles or genetically engineered microbes that automatically repair micro-cracks, meaning that such roads only need any maintenance at all once every 30-40 Earth years, and--if simulations hold up--won't need to be outright resurfaced for centuries. Road workers in these affluent areas--such as much of the Rktakian Kwardniet, and parts of the Far South, Meatbucket, and Western Sector, are thus only needed to build new roads, or if natural disasters have destroyed part of a road. Most cars and trucks have a high level of autonomy, equivalent to level 4-5 on smart highways and 3-4 on arbitrary roads; it's common in vast stretches of highway between city-states to see multiple trucks traveling in a convoy with only the first one actually being driven by a pack.
Rail networks have largely evolved in a similar organic fashion with no top-down authority guiding their development or standards, and thus as a practical matter, variable gauge trains have always been required to cover any serious distance without running into this issue. There are an estimated 15 million kilometers of rail on the Kyanah homeworld, about 20 times as much as on Earth, a factor which can be attributed to it being an oceanless super-Earth with nearly 9 times the land area, and barring political considerations or issues with customs, it is usually possible to get from almost any mid-sized or large city-state to any other by rail. In recent epochs, the development of room temperature superconductors has made long range maglev systems practical; in practice, these are often integrated into existing rail lines, allowing both maglevs and internally powered nuclear or internal-combustion trains to use the same route, though maglev-compatible lines are much more sparse outside of the Rktakian Kwardniet, Western Sector, Meatbucket, Far South, and immediate vicinity of various megacities outside these regions. New rails are often constructed from self-healing metals to reduce the need for repairs. To the Kyanah, "high-speed rail" refers to vactrains, which have been implemented, but are even more sparse. The expense of making the required room-temperature superconductors in orbit and maintaining a vacuum tube for hundreds of kilometers, the extreme security risks and high-profile terrorist attacks, and the fact that acceleration time greatly limit the available stops--to avoid turning it into a high-G experience and still make full use of the available speed, stops must be at least 400-500 km apart, with any in-between destinations being served by a second line, and the necessity of having a perfectly straight line--mean that only a few such lines exist. The only one in the Rktakian Kwardniet runs the Ryden-Ikun-Aktin route, covering 1500 kilometers in about 25 minutes, including an 8-minute stop in Ikun, at half the cost and three times the speed of an equivalent plane ticket. However, security concerns, red tape, and bickering between the three city-states in question have caused this project to cost roughly half a trillion koin and take 37 years to complete--or in human terms, about $80 billion and 17 Earth years, double the cost and 50% longer than originally planned--and in 38 years/17.5 Earth years of operation, it has yet to be a net profit, discouraging the construction of further vactrains in the Rktakian Kwardniet. The Far South, with a less car-centric culture and a greater prevalence of direct government control over infrastructure, has seen 17 city-states be connected with four vactrain lines, and one additional line connects four city-states from East Anweri to Dagtan, though this has been the most controversial of all due to the poverty and developing economies of these city-states. While advances in mega-scale 3D printing of infrastructure since about Y944 may lead to the cost of vactrain lines dropping in--in human terms--under $50 million/km, it will likely never be as practical for most routes as nuclear jets that can go from almost anywhere to anywhere else, even if they only travel at 0.7 km/s instead of 2 km/s as vactrains do.
The planet's impact ranges pose a considerable challenge to ground transport--arguably worse than Earth mountain ranges--as the masses of overlapping craters, impact peaks, and ejecta piles lead to chaotic, loose, rockfall-prone terrain with drops and rises reaching hundreds of meters or even kilometers. Most impact ranges have several major highways passing through in modern times, using elaborate systems of bridges, tunnels, and ramps to navigate through the treacherous crater fields. The largest and most treacherous such area, known as the Shatter, where three separate impact ranges overlap, only has one paved road and rail crossing, at the Dagtan Gap, where the shattered crater-field narrows from hundreds of kilometers across to just 60. Naturally, this has put Dagtan city-state, on the southern side of the gap, in a very important but also very high-pressure position; they are much bigger and wealthier than many city-states in their general vicinity due to the sheer volume of trade between the Rktakian Kwardniet+Western Sector and the Middle+Far South going through Dagtan. However, hundreds of city-states are constantly trying to influence Dagtan and secure beneficial trade arrangements, and Ikun itself has invaded no fewer than three times during the Hegemony Era to overthrow the government in Dagtan. Some companies in Rktakian Kwardniet city-states have proposed using nukes to blast a path through the Shatter a few thousand kilometers east of Dagtan to create an alternate route (as has been done a few times in other impact ranges) but there are few large and economically developed city-states near the proposed route, so hundreds or even thousands of kilometers of smart highways and magrails across barren desert would have to be built to connect it to existing infrastructure, and also Ikun's government seems disinterested in using nukes for this particular project, making it largely a pipe dream.
The largest piece of infrastructure on the Kyanah homeworld is undoubtedly the Water Distribution System. While pipelines to carry water between city-states have existed since the early industrial times, construction has accelerated drastically after the Utopian Wars, as technology has advanced and economic interconnectedness have increased, and thousands of city-states and corporations have built pipelines, silos, ultra-deep water wells, and fog collection systems to transfer water between themselves and their allies and trading partners. This way, water can be quickly and easily moved from regions with an excess to regions with drought, a handy piece of infrastructure for such an arid planet. However, Ikun has heavily invested in the underlying technology and infrastructure, bridging gaps in strategic locations around the world and building vast numbers of the most powerful and efficient control nodes and refining and optimizing the infrastructure, causing the emergent networks to gradually merge into a cohesive whole. With more than 120 million kilometers of pipelines and 9 million control nodes, corporations and government agencies based in Ikun together own some 82,000 control nodes, nearly 1% of the entire system and over three times as many as the next most influential city-state, and have also built some half million kilometers of pipelines themselves. In recent years, construction robots and metal 3D printing technology has made this construction more efficient, enabling the production of pipelines in one continuous length, without the need to haul disparate segments into place and weld them together. Sensors are ubiquitous along the system's length, immediately alerting control node owners of mechanical issues in remote areas so that construction crews can be sent to repair them.
A human, with a human-centric view of institutions and interconnected systems, could be forgiven for thinking that the Water Distribution System was a grand altruistic endeavor intended to uplift impoverished communities. But to the Kyanah that was never the point, even though it's certainly had that effect in most parts of the world. Essentially, the crux of the Water Distribution System is the control nodes, which can be used by their owners to activate valves, pumps, and storage mechanisms to either push or pull water in a particular part of the system, causing it to be routed to their desired location; the more powerful and efficient the underlying hardware is, the more effective the control node is. However, thousands of entities are pushing or pulling water at any given time; if multiple control nodes are trying to move water in the same direction, their effect will be magnified, while if they are moving water in the opposite direction, their effects will be diminished or even cancelled out entirely.
The Water Distribution System is thus, in a sense pay-to-win via technical investment, as affluent and technologically advanced city-states like Ikun have more and heavier-weighted control nodes. It is a very complex strategic landscape with organizations heavily relying on optimization and game theory to try and maximize their influence and access to water. Sometimes, city-states cooperate, and other times they work against each other, using complex strategies to deny their enemies water by strategically pushing or pulling from enemies, allies, and neighbors to indirectly leave the target in a situation where water is flowing away from them in every direction with a force too great for their own control nodes to override. Determining the optimal strategy is a computationally hard problem with no closed-form solution, so those with the biggest supercomputing clusters and the best scientists to devise classified algorithms gain an advantage that stacks with control node superiority. The Water Distribution System is a lot like a planetary chess game, where some players have like three queens on the board and a computer running Stockfish, and others...just don't. Because of this, the system can be controversial, with approval ranging from less than 30% of packs to over 90%, depending on the city-state. And yet, access to water has genuinely increased. Often-times there will in fact be excess water somewhere in the world that a struggling city-state can pull with little or no resistance, and even if not, other players will often push it to them to secure political concessions in other areas, bolster alliances, or even just to keep global trade networks stable, avert a refugee crisis, and maintain trust in the Water Distribution System, which are all generally in the best interests of the wealthy power players, so they generally don't just suck impoverished city-states dry for no reason unless there's a goal even more pressing than these general interests.
In recent years, speculative geoengineering technology has been increasingly implemented by various city-states with the goal of securing more favorable weather conditions and reversing ecological damage in their regions. Koranah, a Far South city-state and geopolitical enemy of Ikun, with the largest raw GDP (even beating Ikun, albeit not per capita), has invested heavily in building control nodes in this new system and promoting the widespread use of geoengineering across the planet. Naturally, this too is not some altruistic collective venture to save the planet, but a calculated strategy by Koranah to mirror Ikun's success at influencing global politics via the Water Distribution System, by creating an even more powerful piece of infrastructure, the Climate Control System. Naturally, the technology of the Climate Control System is far more advanced. Control nodes are essentially quasi-living factories--with inorganic protective shells and networking equipment surrounding biotech internals--that produce vast amounts of genetically engineered or outright synthetic microbes, which can block out or concentrate sunlight to alter temperatures, seed or disperse clouds to cause or prevent rainfall, break down pollutants or release beneficial trace chemicals into the atmosphere, or promote or suppress key aspects of local ecosystems from the ground up. With the use of biotechnology and genetically engineered organisms, the need to manually repair and replace these systems or come in and manually adjust settings constantly, is greatly reduced, as the low-level details can self-regulate. However, even the most basic versions of this sort of technology are much more expensive and intricate than pipelines and pumps. Additionally, global weather systems and ecologies are open, chaotic systems instead of closed, deterministic ones like water pipelines, and actions taken by control nodes in the Climate Control System have ripple effects across the world that require sophisticated modeling and advanced science to accurately predict. Thus determining a suitable strategy is two nested computationally hard problems: in order to solve for the optimal instructions to give to a particular control node, you first need to accurately predict the effects of each instruction on the environment, taking into account theoretically unlimited knock-on effects outside the system itself; it's a lot more complex than "we want water there, so we push/pull water there". So city-states with even a slight advantage in geoengineering technology and/or computing will utterly dominate. As Ikun and Koranah are neck-and-neck in the supercomputing arms race and Koranah's geoengineering is 3-5 Earth years ahead of Ikun's, the government of Ikun has gone all-out in suppressing geoengineering through its superior soft power, leveraging sanctions, treaties, and propaganda to disrupt the Climate Control System's expansion.
Curiously, while plenty of city-states import and export energy to others, there's no recognizable global grid in the same manner as the Water Distribution System or Climate Control System, with regional power trading arrangements between dozens or hundreds of city-states at most instead. There are various technical and political reasons why, but essentially energy is neither as scarce as water nor as globalized as the environment itself, so techno-political forces governing the energy industry tend to be different. Fission power provides a plurality and near-majority of the Kyanah homeworld's energy supply, about 47% in total--Ikun's nuclear monopoly does not preclude other city-states from building nuclear reactors, just nuclear weapons. Thousands of city-states have nuclear reactors, and thorium reactors have been extensively commercialized alongside uranium ones. Miniaturized fission reactors are also frequently used; the smallest are not much larger than a conventional car engine. Solar takes second place, with 27% prevalence; the Kyanah homeworld receives more solar flux than Earth and tends to have fewer clouds, so it tends to be a viable choice in most places, except those that have a polar night. There has been some commercialization of space solar, as not having to deal with nighttime or an atmosphere makes it far more efficient. So far, this is only about 1% of the global solar market, but growing fast. Coal--the only fossil fuel that exists in significant quantities--makes up 18% in total. Though it's not evenly distributed; in affluent and developed areas, fission makes up 80-90% of energy generation, while nuclear reactors are rare in developing regions where coal dominates; the Middle South, with its poor yet rapidly industrializing city-states, is also known as the Coal Belt for a reason. Fusion power is a solved problem, but only makes up 4% of global energy usage due to the severe logistical problems with finding deuterium, tritium, or helium-3. Thus far, the most practical solution has been atmospheric mining, first implemented at the system's only gas giant, Entiak-Ryitu, about 7.5 AU out, in Y927 (49 years ago; 22.5 Earth years). There are few regions where wind or hydroelectric are practical, so these only comprise a trace amount of energy output on a global scale.

2024.05.25 17:54 easternmoth Sharing some advice for Iceland with kids

First of all, thank you to this group for the tips and information especially with unbiased and straightforward information about the eruption and safety of BL. I figured I'd offer a few tips back as a thank you. Specifically, this is for families with kids. Our trip was late April for 5 days with a 6 and 7 year old. 1 night at the airport after flying in at 10pm, 2 nights in Reykjavik and 2 nights in Vik with 5pm flight out on the last day.
  1. Pace yourself. My new rule of thumb is 1 rest day for every 3 sightseeing/hiking days. By the end of our 3rd day we were all completely spent and had to adjust our plans to add in a more low key day. A rest day doesn’t have to mean doing nothing. We spent a day in Vik playing on the beach, visiting horses, shopping at the souvenir places etc. it was such a great day that by the end we felt rested and brainstormed how we could extend our trip one more day haha. If you’re new to travel with kids it’s important to remember that when non parents rests at the end of a long tiring day of sight seeing you still have all the parenting (cleaning, prep for next day, bedtime) to do. It’s just as tiring on vacation as it is at home.
  2. Get an apartment or AirBnB. Having a kitchen helped cut costs on eating out. We were right next to a grocery store in both towns and loaded up on breakfast, snacks and stuff for picnic lunches. The apartments also meant we had a washer and dryer in the unit for laundry which is awesome with kids.
  3. Don't overbook tours. It's tempting to book them all but we only had one tour on our last day. The rest of the trip was totally self paced which meant we could spend as much or as little time as we wanted in any location and adjust as needed based on how the kids were doing. There was no pressure to get up early or reach a certain area by a certain time. It removed so much stress. It also meant we could let the kids stay a bit on US time. They stayed up late and we didn't usually hit the road before 10am which was never an issue for us. Making sure they got enough sleep was super critical to having a good day. Figure out what tours are must dos for your family and make that the main event for the day and limit driving or other travel that day.
  4. Go in April/May. I can't imagine how different our experience would have been if we were there at peak season. My favorite locations were the ones where we were alone or mostly alone. With kids it's even more important to have some elbow room. April also means more budget friendly. We booked an apartment in Reykjavik for $250 a night and another in Vik for $350 a night. That's a steal for the location and space. And the winter landscape in my opinion is just as beautiful as the summer scape. April also meant that we had plenty of sun but that kids were going to bed in the dark which helped keep some balance.
  5. Try Secret Lagoon. I decided to skip BL and the other spa-like ones that I really wanted don't allow kids. I know everyone suggests local pools for kids but I really wanted something different and rustic. Secret Lagoon was a great compromise. The shower was a non issue. I warned my daughter because she's all about privacy lately and she was a little nervous. I held a towel around her for privacy but when she saw that I didn't care about it myself and no one else did she got a bit more confident and forgot about it. She loved the little fairy houses and novelty of the whole place. It was raining a little and all steamy and magical.
  6. Do your research on safety for all activities. There are some ice cave tours that allow kids 5/6 yo. I almost booked them but after looking closely at reviews and pics people had shared I really don't think I would consider that safe for kids that young. I did end up booking a private glacier hike which allowed us to be flexible with our guide and turn back anywhere we didn't feel comfortable (it turned out to be a highlight and wonderful experience - I'd recommend a private tour rather than a group tour if you have young kids). BL is another activity where safety was questionable to me. I leaned on the advice from this group and skipped it.
The food is amazing, the locals are wonderful, the scenery is out of this world. Just remember to be present and slow down. Try to plan so you can enjoy where you are at any moment and not worrying about a schedule. Oh and my kids’ favorites were eating gummy bears 🙄, rainbow street, the cat cafe, the glacier hike, riding a horse and all the rainbows 😊.

2024.05.25 15:56 loofalove Physical and mental symptoms of hypo and Hashimotos, as well as 3 micronodules, but doc says labs are fine. Please read.

I’ve assumed my slew of mental and physical symptoms for the last 2 years were due to grief (lost my mom and my boy kitty) and menopause. I also had Covid 9 months ago. But my manual holistic physical therapist (who has Hashimotos) and my acupuncturist both asked me to get tested for it and get a FULL thyroid panel. I have since read that only 80-90% of ppl w Hashimotos have the antibodies and they diagnose via symptoms and thyroid U/S.
Ok. First, the labs. My T4 and T3 are not only within range, but PERFECT—smack dab in the middle.
My free T4 is in range but low. Really low.
My T3 uptake is the bottom number, lol—technically in range, but the bottom number.
Oddly, my TSH is (in range but) low (!)…
Hashimotos antibodies, negative.
I have 3 micronodules. They’re mildly hypoechoic. One has rim calcification that’s interrupted. A serum test (can’t remember name) they ran had a super low number, meaning the likelihood of cancer is super low. All of the lymph nodes in my neck are swollen. My WBC is high end of range but within range. No leukemia or lymphoma markers. This post is about Hypo, anyway. Severe folate deficiency. Taking methyl folate daily now. Had b12 deficiency (also severe); cobalmethyl something or other sublingual drops worked. Fine now. I used to be anemic but am not now.
I feel like my body is attacking itself. I do not have MS. Kidneys etc perfect. Rheumatoid factor, negative. Celiac, negative. C-reactive protein, negative.
Symptoms
Intolerance to cold (hot flashes aside)
Stiff joints
Loss of eyebrow hair, outer 1/3 (left only so far)
Brittle hair, breaking (meno?)
Swollen face (I do eat a lot of salt)
Swollen tongue confirmed by my dentist - 1.3-1.5 x its normal size
Slurring sometimes. Sometimes it’s mild and sometimes it’s like a drunk person trying to enunciate. (Lungs and chest etc are great)
Slight neuropathy in right hand, can’t “pinch” to carry cardboard but can grip all day
Huge change in waist size (I’ve always been slender and even with weight gain have had a corset like waist)
Lower belly fat that is not hard
Heavy legs - feeling - as well as extra fat in right saddlebag
Swollen ankles
Brittle and thin fingernails
Brittle and thick toenails with vertical and ridges on all and horizontal on big toes
Bruising when I touch something (folate)
Extreme fatigue like when I had severe Covid—every day around 3pm, no matter how much sleep or what I’ve eaten or how much water coffee etc. can’t keep eyes open. Walking through mud. Intense. Horrible. Every day.
Cardio—takes forever for pulse to go back down (but that may be large blood cells and or folate deficiency)
Brain fog that’s beyond normal, even for my perimenopausal state.
Seeming inability to lose weight.
Almost impossible to gain muscle even with exercise regimen.
Depression (grief)
Panic.
Blurred vision on the regular, which could be stress.
My blood pressure is great. So were my lung and heart listens at my primary care.

2024.05.25 07:48 Delphius1 Season 4 episode 1, a former particle accelerator worker perspective

Hi, background, I worked at 2 different facilities on 4 different accelerators, in my mid to late 20's, haven't in awhile, can't name names and I can't name what I did specifically, sorry. I may have some short hand with how I talk about designs of machines/accelarators. I was struck by this episode and I wanted to weigh in
So there a few great things they get right:
1: yeah, these things can be huge, some linear accelerators/LINAC(s) can be small, it all depends. This episode clearly was either shot on location at CERN or on sound stages that look like it, you have to take a company work van to get around CERN from the size so I can understand the scooters for some closer transportation.
  1. Yeah, you wear radiation badges when you are around them, stray radiation (usually alpha) from small linears is a thing and you can have activated material (radioactive) around you even when one is off. This can happen because of high energy collisions of, any particle and with extremely power high photon beams. But the labs I worked at didn't use the tags as shown, those are more common with working around nuclear reactors or around radiation sources, what was more common was standard dosimeter badges that around tri or quad annually tested to be worn around potential activation from either components removed from the machine, or installed parts of a machine.
  2. For colliders, they are very sensitive, so coveralls are common for reasons described .
  3. Oh, a particle accelerator in New York that is a collider, that collides protons and electrons, last year they did use gold particles. The words 'so Brookhaven is now haunted' came out of my mouth
  4. You get all kinds of people working on accelerators, some with really weird senses of humor, technicians usually tend to go towards the very weird but almost always are at least as smart as physics people
  5. Oh yes, there are shortcuts that can happen in some way, safety is almost never compromised, never happened at all in my career or in people I replaced careers, but a sink hole is something I would expect to be literally paved over, the only way it would be a problem would be if it compromises the alignment, reliability or structural integrity of the entire device
  6. the sound and the atmosphere; this is so close to real life, it is a weird and unearthly place especially in an unplanned instance, and just so cool. It can be creepy, random power outages do happen during service intervals, but they are announced usually, but outages can slip through the cracks
What they got wrong and kinda wrong:
  1. Ben should be pretty messed up, proton therapy for cancer is a thing, if it was an electron beam, he should be dead. Proton therapy works because of the mass of them, but he should have at least a burn, hallucinations/bad dreams is a thing with such a radiation event. There should have been a lot more fallout even if the cast was ok, they should be in containment for *days*. If that was an electron beam, no beam should be possible in atmosphere unless it is high enough energy, which would kill everyone there. When you have a particle that interacts and slows down, it sheds that energy as radiation, something like this happened in Hanoi, I recommend watching Kyle Hill's video on it 'what happens if you put your hand in a particle accelerator'
  2. The 'detector' part is accurate and the overall look is iconic, but no beam is in atmosphere like that, it cannot exist, particle beams almost always travel in extremely long vacuum chambers, sometimes reaching around the pressure of low earth orbit. The vacuum 'level' depends on any number of factors
  3. Yeah, that incident shouldn't have happened, they mentioned breakers, that irl usually are manually locked off by everyone who would be in the vicinity of the shut off accelerator and it can't be started until all locks are removed. You don't need to do this in 'early' side/upstream of some linear accelerators, but I wouldn't recommend it.
  4. Magnets, how do they work. They are used to bend and/or manipulate the beam, again, it depends on the design. Electromagnets are common for very high powered machines, you reaaaallly don't want to be around those magnets when they turn on as they can rip tools out of you hands at over 20 feet and there is severe electrocution risk outside of a grounded cage. Permanent magnets aren't as hazardous, but they can pull tools out of your hands at 12 feet away when it comes to 'steering' magnets. Yeah, the cast is in amazing danger if those magnets which I think are electromagnets, are engaged, at least on par with around a radiation source
  5. ok major black eye, there are no vacuum chambers. For virtually any particle beam to exist outside of some lasers, you *need* vacuum chambers, so actual incidences with beams are highly unlikely outside of photon beams or resulting radiation
  6. Oh god, the quark spin crisis and micro black holes. I'm just so tired. so tired. Yeah, a cascade event is theoretically possible, but the only way for a black hole to be threat is to actually be of significant mass, and one the size of a few molecules is a laughable
Even with my complaints, this is more accurate than almost anything else I've seen, it isn't The Flash TV series, which I loved, but I hated the accelerator bits because, just dump the beam, what is wrong with you people. Probably the best representation outside of dedicated hard scifi, I had a great time

2024.05.25 03:00 MarcoTalin Best of the Super Juniors 31 A Block Standings as of May 22 (2 A Block shows left)

Hello njpw
We're getting closer and closer to the end of the tournament, and A Block has shifted fairly significantly. We've had people climb, we've had people drop, and we've had people fall out of contention entirely. However, with two shows left, a lot can still happen, so let's look into things.
Starting from this post, I'll be diving deeper into draws. I did start taking ties into account in the last B Block post (as I mentioned there, ties results will hold less weight in the chances), but here, I'll be including chances people have of getting to the finals via deadlock draw.
As usual, you may also view my BOSJ 31 results summary page here. I'm manually updating it as we go along the tournament. It contains the schedule of the matches, results, and a summary of the top 20 best matches of the tournament (based on CageMatch Ratings).
With all that out of the way, let's have a look at the A Block Standings.

A Block Standings

Name Faction Score Record Status
Titan Los Ingobernables de Japon 10 5-2 In
El Desperado Main Unit 10 5-2 In
HAYATA Pro Wrestling NOAH 8 4-3 In
Clark Connors BULLET CLUB War Dogs 8 4-3 In
Blake Christian ROH 8 4-3 In
TJP UNITED EMPIRE 6 3-4 In
Kevin Knight Main Unit 6 3-4 Slim Odds (<1%)
BUSHI Los Ingobernables de Japon 6 3-4 Slim Odds (<1%), Tie Only
Kosei Fujita TMDK 4 2-5 Out
Yoshinobu Kanemaru HOUSE OF TORTURE 4 2-5 Out
We've finally gotten our first set of eliminations for A Block, along with a new set of block leaders. However, will it stay that way? Let's talk about what these guys are facing, starting with the new block leader ...

1) Titan

  • 10 pts: 5 wins, 2 losses
  • 74.5% to go to the playoffs:
    • 51.0% as #1
      • 47.3% as sole #1
      • 3.7% in a tie for #1
    • 23.4% as #2
      • 21.9% as sole #2
      • 1.5% in a tie for #2
  • Best Wins: Despe [10], HAYATA [8]
  • Worst Losses: Connors [8], Christian [8]
This past show was a very good one for Titan. He beat a rival, he gained some points, the two guys he lost to previously have fallen down the ranks, and he owns wins over the two guys below him in ranking. Pretty much everything went well for Titan on this show.
It's not all guaranteed though. Even at 12, he still runs the risk of getting overtaken by Despe, or getting caught up to by Connors or Christian. However, he would need at least two of these guys to win both of their remaining matches. Plus, he's golden if he himself wins both of his remaining matches, so he's not in a huge amount of danger.
As I mentioned on the previous A Block post, all of Titan's match-ups are settled, and now that he's got the point lead, all he has to worry about is winning. As long as he stays winning, he's going to the playoffs. That means beating Kanemaru on the next show, and TJP on the final A Block day.

2) El Desperado

  • 8 pts: 4 wins, 2 losses
  • 73.4% to go to the playoffs:
    • 38.9% as #1
      • 35.4% as sole #1
      • 3.5% in a tie for #1
    • 34.5% as #2
      • 31.4% as sole #2
      • 3.1% in a tie for #2
  • Best Wins: Connors [8], Christian [8]
  • Worst Losses: Titan [10]
Despite how the match ended, this past show was good for Despe's BOSJ chances. The only technical negative is Titan winning and making 10 alongside him. Still, #2 is a solid position, and with his only loss being against the block leader, he's still in good shape to qualify for the playoffs.
Looking at Despe's and Titan's overall chances to make the playoffs, they have very similar odds, but breaking it down to which place they'll be, it's clear that Titan is more likely to come out as #1, while Despe is more likely to come out as #2. Considering their head-to-head result, that's no surprise.
There's just one more important match-up to settle, that being against Hayata on the final day. Outside of people overtaking him, Hayata is the only other person who has the chance to threaten Despe's playoffs chances. If Hayata makes it to 12 (in the process beating Despe), then Despe's chances drop significantly. On the other hand, if Despe beats Hayata on the last A Block show, he is a lock for the playoffs, regardless of how his match with TJP goes on the 26th.

3) HAYATA

  • 8 points: 4 wins, 3 losses
  • 23.5% to go to the playoffs
    • 6.9% as #1
      • 5.3% as sole #1
      • 1.6% in a tie for #1
    • 16.6% as #2
      • 12.6% as sole #2
      • 4.0% in a tie for #2
  • Best Wins: Christian [8]
  • Worst Losses: Titan [10], Connors [8]
Hayata's managed to leap frog his way from the bottom half of the block all the way to the top 3, thanks to several key losses and his own beating of Kevin Knight. He's been languishing in the dregs of A block for most of the tournament, but all of a sudden, he's within an arm's reach of the playoffs.
A lot of that has to do with his open match with Despe on the final A Block day. His prior loss to Titan is gonna make it very hard for Hayata to take the #1 spot, but if he can at least beat Despe and match him in points, he can at least take #2. This also requires him winning his other remaining match against Kosei Fujita on the 26th, since he's a step behind the point leaders, so he needs to prepare for that as well.

4) Clark Connors

  • 8 points: 4 wins, 3 losses
  • 18.9% to go to the playoffs
    • 6.0% as #1
      • 3.7% as sole #1
      • 2.3% in a tie for #1
    • 12.9% as #2
      • 10.8% as sole #2
      • 2.1% in a tie for #2
  • Best Wins: Titan [10], HAYATA [8]
  • Worst Losses: Despe [10], Christian [8]
Connors made a costly sacrifice on this past show. Taking the DQ loss to Despe has cost him his #2 spot in the block, and now he's fallen down to 4th.
Still, it's not all lost, as his prior win over Titan could help him eke out 2nd place. However, he is still at risk of being overtaken by both Despe and Titan, so just winning both his matches won't be enough. He's gonna need Titan to lose at least once, or Despe to lose twice. He also needs to watch out for Blake Christian, because if Christian does well, it'll put even more pressure on Connors. Thus, Clark Connors is in a delicate position, even compared to his fellow 8-pointer Hayata.
However, even though it won't be enough by itself, he'll still need to win to have a shot at the playoffs, and Connors' remaining matches are a pair of meaningful ones. His former LA Dojo mate Kevin Knight on the 26th and Kanemaru on the 30th. If he keeps letting his temper get the best of him, it may lead to further ruin.

5) Blake Christian

  • 8 points: 4 wins, 3 losses
  • 17.7% to go to the playoffs
    • 5.4% as #1
      • 3.1% as sole #1
      • 2.2% in a tie for #1
    • 12.3% as #2
      • 10.9% as sole #2
      • 1.4% in a tie for #2
  • Best Wins: Titan [10], Connors [8]
  • Worst Losses: Despe [10], HAYATA [8]
Blake Christian is in much the same position Clark Connors. Before this past show, they were #1 and #2. Now, they're #5 and #4. Connors managed to stay above Christian, though, as his win over Hayata is more valuable than Christian's win over him.
As a result, Christian and Connors have very similar chances. Instead, he has to watch out for Hayata doing well. Conversely, his last two matches aren't very momentous. Bushi on the 26th and Fujita on the 30th. As I mentioned last time, these should be winnable matches, but then again, I said the same thing about his match with TJP, and look how that turned out.

6) TJP

  • 6 points: 3 wins, 4 losses
  • 3.2% to go to the playoffs
    • 0.4% as #1
      • 0.3% as sole #1
      • 0.2% in a tie for #1
    • 2.8% as #2
      • 1.4% as sole #2
      • 1.4% in a tie for #2
  • Biggest Wins: HAYATA [8], Christian [8]
  • Worst Losses: Connors [8]
TJP continues to hang in the competition, improving his chances ever so slightly. However, being on 6 points and being 4 points behind the leaders, he's still a longshot, and will need tons of help to qualify for the playoffs.
First and foremost, he'll need to win both of his remaining matches. We'll get to those in a second. In addition to that, he'll need a lot of people above him to lose a match or two. With his ceiling at 10, he's screwed if two people make 12, which can happen as soon as this next show. His best shot is for someone to break away at 12 or 14, and for him to come out on top of a massive pile-up at 10. In order to come out cleanly from that pile-up, though, he'll need a lot of good wins. He does have a few, as his recent wins over Hayata and Christian can certainly aid in that sort of situation, but to survive a pile-up of 5 or even 6 people, he'll need more than that.
Which brings us back to TJP's remaining matches. Boy, if TJP wants some high-value wins, he has the opportunity to do so, as his remaining matches are against the two current block leaders of A Block: El Desperado on the 26th and Titan on the 30th. Of everyone in A Block, TJP has the biggest matches, so he'll be one to watch out for in the coming days. Of course, it could all be for nothing, as he could just get overtaken by any of the 8-pointers, and even if he beats both Despe and Titan, they could just win their other match and both overtake him, rendering his victories useless. Still, it's all TJP can hope for, and what he needs to cling to if he still hopes to make the playoffs.

7) Kevin Knight

  • 6 points: 3 wins, 4 losses
  • 0.6% to go to the playoffs
    • 0.02% in a tie for #1
    • 0.6% as #2
      • 0.1% as sole #2
      • 0.5% in a tie for #2
  • Biggest Wins: Despe [10]
  • Worst Losses: Titan [10], Christian [8], HAYATA [8]
Another person to have a bad night this past show is Kevin Knight. While his chances weren't high previously, the loss to Hayata in combination with the rest of the show has caused him to drop to sub-1% chances. He's got the same score as Hayata, but with way more significant losses. With 3 of his 4 losses coming from people with more points than him, it seems as though Knight's tournament hopes are nearing their end. We'll see if he survives the next show.
For the mean time, let's just focus on his matches. He's got his big match with Clark Connors on the next show before finishing his tournament off against Bushi. Can things turn around for the Jet?

8) BUSHI

  • 6 points: 3 wins, 4 losses
  • 0.2% to go to the playoffs in a tie for #2
  • Biggest Wins: None
  • Worst Losses: Titan [10], Despe [10], HAYATA [8], Connors [8]
Bushi did, in fact, survive the last show, but not by much. He has no valuable wins, and 4 major losses to his name. His only chance left to qualify for the playoffs is through a tie for 2nd, which is not an ideal thing to rely on. He does have one more big match left (vs Blake Christian on the next show) before facing someone who's also on thin ice in Kevin Knight, but I doubt winning either match is gonna significantly improve his chances. Really, I think it's best we move on from Bushi as quickly as possible.

9) Kosei Fujita

  • 4 points: 2 wins, 5 losses
  • Eliminated from contention
And we finally get to our firsts et of contention eliminations for A Block. First up is young Kosei Fujita, who's on the opposite end of the block from where his TMDK brother is over in B Block. Yes, after losing the opening match of this past show to Titan, Fujita lost all hope of main-eventing Dominion this year. His remaining matches will be against people who, as of now, are still in contention: Hayata on the 26th and Blake Christian on the 30th. Now that he's out of the running, all Fujita can hope to do is to take out a couple of guys before the tournament ends.

10) Yoshinobu Kanemaru

  • 4 points: 2 wins, 5 losses
  • Eliminated from contention
Lastly, we have Yoshinobu Kanemaru. He's out too, but he also has some fun matches to look forward to. He's got the block leader Titan on the next show, which would be a juicy win, and Bullet Club mate Clark Connors on the last day. We'll see if Uncle Nobu still has some fight left in him.

Draw Possibilities

Next, we'll touch on the draw outcomes. The results in A Block are all over the place, and there are many combinations of exact draws that could still happen, for both the #1 and #2 spot. I've counted 14 different 3-way deadlocks, so I won't go through them all. What I will describe, however, are the biggest draws still in effect. There are a handful of 5-way deadlocks that can still happen.
First is a 5-way tie for 1st, involving everyone currently at 8 points and above. This would happen if all five of them make 12 points. That would need:
  • Clark Connors to beat Knight & Kanemaru
  • Blake Christian to beat Fujita & BUSHI
  • HAYATA to beat Fujita and Despe
  • Despe to beat TJP but lose to HAYATA
  • Titan to beat only one of TJP and Kanemaru
Hayata-Despe is the only match between the 5 to not have been settled yet, and that's happening on the final day, so this possibility still has a long way to travel.
The other 5-way tie is a bit crazy, and it involves a 7-way tie at 10 points to breakdown with one winner, one loser, and an exact 5-way tie in the middle. Here's what needs to happen:
  • Kevin Knight to beat both BUSHI and Connors
  • TJP to beat both Despe and Titan
  • Clark Connors to beat Kanemaru but lose to Knight
  • Blake Christian to beat one of Fujita & BUSHI
  • HAYATA to beat Despe but lose to Fujita
  • Despe to lose to both TJP and Hayata
  • Titan to lose to both TJP and Kanemaru
In this configuration, the winner is actually TJP, as he'll have 4 head-to-head wins (Despe, Titan, Christian, and HAYATA), while the loser will be Despe, as he only has 2 (Christian & Connors). If we look at the results among all 7 of these wrestlers, then the rest will be caught in a deadlock with 3 wins each. However, if we break the tie by seeing the head-to-head results among only the 5, then it would be Blake Christian taking the #2 spot, as he'd have 3 head-to-head wins here (Knight, Titan, and Connors.

What's Next?

The next show will be an interesting one for A Block. All 5 of the 8/10-pointers will be competing in separate matches. Yes, it's the top of the block vs the bottom of the block, and though most of the bottom of the block has very little chance to make the playoffs (with it being impossible for some), Expect some wild swings. All 5 of the top contenders could win and solidify themselves as the true contenders going into the last day. They could all lose and re-flatten the block. More likely, it'll be a mixture of wins and losses, so keep an eye out for which top contender wins their match.
That'll do for this post. The next show is still a few days away. It'll be another combined block show, as A Block sets the stage for the final block day, while B Block will still have another show left. I'm still deciding whether or not to delay the last A Block summary and combine it with the last B Block summary, or if I should just keep them separate. If I separate them, then the Semi-Finals preview will have to go in the B Block post. I'll take feedback and suggestions, if anyone cares.
Until then, thanks for reading! See you next post.

2024.05.24 23:36 lC3 VIZ volumes 1-8 TL issues and differences betw JPN/ENG

Hi; for a while now I've been working on a list of known issues or differences between JPN and ENG versions in VIZ's official translations for the DGM manga. I was going to do up until the latest volume and then post it all, but recent health conditions have me reconsidering whether I'll last that long. So here's what I have at the moment:
Apologies that I don't have the time to format this properly (anyone know how to manually add spaces to every line?).
*Viz v01 (10th printing): On the cover, Viz has altered the colors of the title and changed the shape of the cross found in between G and r. *Viz volume missing black/white/red insert cover with Komui (raw p3) v01.05 "Those possessed by the gods" > "God" (should be Christian setting) v01.19 "An Akuma"? Allen says "Akuma" (アクマ) but Moor hears 悪魔 (demon). She continues to use 悪魔 until Allen clears up their true identity. v01.25 "They specialize in destroying Akuma", Eng. vol. removes that they're "clergymen" When Moor calls Marc "brother", the kanji say "brother-in-law". v01.29 "As your sister, I'm hoping for the same thing from heaven." This is a translation error, pure and simple. Moor says "I'm sure my sister [Claire] in heaven feels the same way." v01.32 Eng manga switches placement of two text boxes: "Akuma" is the name of a weapon + weapon from the dark side created to prey on humans. v01.44 "Even that Akuma ... once had a soul embedded in it." 'Once' is wrong, it still does. v01.54 When the Earl is singing Happy Birthday, the Eng. manga removes "dear" before Claire's name. "to you" is also removed. The JPN volume copyright page says the lyrics were used with permission. v01.63 "A member of the Black Order" in ENG is "black clergyman" in JPN vol. v01.72 "You can't deceive my eyes" should be "eye" v01.74 "New World Alliance" is "the Vatican" in JPN. The omake in v05 correctly have "Vatican", though v01.99 "you little runt" in the JPN is "you death cheater" v01.109 "soldier of life doomed by fate" is "apostle possessed by God" in the JPN v01.112 In the profile of the Earl, the Eng says "he was one of the most peculiar people who had ever lived," but the JPN vol adds that he was from the 18th century. v01.127 "soldier of life" in ENG is "apostle of God" in JPN v01.148 "That was too close" in the JPN volume is Allen thinking Kanda is scary. v01.150 The Eng. volume accidentally switches two text placements: "Clean your desk once in a while will ya!" and "I'm going to go get another cup of coffee." v01.171 "soldier of life" in the Eng. vol. is a euphemism for where the JPN vol. has "apostle of God". This continues to recur throughout the series where Exorcists are referred to as "apostles". However, v05.70 correctly has "apostle of Innocence", so this may only occur in early volumes? v01.180 "New World Alliance" is censorship for "the Vatican" in the JPN vol., and "several hundred years ago" should instead be "about 100 years ago". In the Special Thanks page at the end of v01, the drawing of Allen has a note in the JPN version that "Okei" (one of her assistants?) drew him. Viz v02 (9th printing): The title logo has been changed in placement and the cross has been altered again. The photograph of Hoshino's cat Koro with a fanmade Timcanpy plush is in color in the JPN vol, but greyscale in Viz's ENG vol. Once again the ENG vol is missing the inner black/white/red page. This time it's General Cross with a hammer and glass of wine (and giant Tim chomping on his head), saying (to Allen?) "Become an Exorcist, you bastard" v02.29 Toma's mention of the "New World Alliance" is "the Vatican" in the JPN vol. v02.44 In the profile for Reever, the Eng. vol. misses a place and has "Riba". v02.79 Kanda says the "beansprout" is "Allen" in the Eng. vol., but he just says "that guy" in the JPN and doesn't name him. v02 Komui says "Por favore" in Eng. vol. when it's supposed to be "Per favore" as in JPN vol v03 (8th printing) once again cuts the red/black/white insert cover; this time it's Jeryy, Komui and Komlin. The cross in the logo is altered also v03 the "STORY" summary on the characters page is significantly changed/reduced in the ENG version. The JPN version talks about the Cube, Noah's Flood, 7000 years ago etc, and the ENG version doesn't have any of that. v03.13 "I'll terminate you" from Komlin is a mistranslation, it says something like "Time for an operation". v03.16 There's a panel where the ebook (8th printing) failed to update "Linali" into "Lenalee" v03.23 "Be rational" in ENG is literally "Please become an adult" in JPN v03.39 Jeryy's "Ahh! Why do I have to do repairs? It was the Head Chief!" (ENG) should be "Ahh! Why do I have to do repairs! I'm the Head Chef!" v03.45 Road says "Millennium Earl" in the Eng. vol. where the JPN has 千年公 / Lord Millennium. v03.50 "the same cloudy skies" (ENG) are "the same snowy skies" in JPN vol. v03.57 In the JPN vol., the kanji for "death" is shown on Johnny's forehead. This is removed from the ENG vol3 v03.58 The JPN vol. has Komui say the order was made on Oct. 9th and set to be delivered on the 10th, but the ENG vol. cuts the month out v03.61 The JPN vol has Allen or Lenalee call her "Miss Miranda" (ミス・ミランダ) but the Eng. vol. only has "Miranda" v03.69 "Punk Voice" misses the G, it's "Pang Voice" in the anime, which is more accurate v03.104 Road writes "FUCK" on Miranda's wall in the JPN manga, which is changed to "THANK" in the ENG vol v03.105,188 "Fuck you! exorcist" is changed to "THANK YOU EXORCIST!" in the ENG vol. v03.106 has "Rabi" not corrected to "Lavi" v03.123,127,135,168,183 has "the (Millennium) Earl" where Road says 千年公 / Lord Millennium in JPN v03.124 has "Riba" not corrected to "Reever" v03.126 Ch23's chapter title is "Akuma" in the ENG vol but it's the kanji 悪魔 "demon, devil" in the JPN v03.160 Miranda's character profile says she's a Capricorn in the JPN, but the ENG vol. mistakenly mixes this up with Aries v03.182 In the stylized drawing, the ENG vol has "Hey" in the bottom left, but the JPN has "Oi", which I think stands for Oi-chan her assistant, the one who drew that page v03.195,197 Komui says "Miranda" in the ENG vol but it's "Miss Miranda" (ミス・ミランダ) in the JPN v03 in ENG doesn't have the fanart corner (6 pages) found in v03 JPN's endpages v04 (7th printing) cover once again changes the shape of the cross in DGM's logo v04 in ENG omits the black/white/red inner cover, this time of panda!Bookman and Lavi v04 ENG summary "It all began centuries ago" -> "It all began about a century ago" v04 ENG summary, omits that the Flood was about 7000 years ago v04 ENG summary adds more info on previous arc, about Lenalee's coma and Allen's damaged eye v04.11 ENG "Why did you come here?" omits "when you're so busy" from JPN v04.16 ENG "Let's play again soon, Allen" is "Next time will be according to the Lord Millennium's scenario" in JPN v04.41 "I'm going to keep following the path" -> "I decided to keep walking this path." v04.44 "I keep a mental record of everything" -> "No matter what I'm doing, it's my habit to keep a mental record" (literal) v04.48 The ENG vol removes the heart symbols after the Earl's sentences v04.54 ENG vol has "God matter" carved on Yeegar's back, whereas JPN vol says 神狩り "god hunt" v04.55 ENG vol "Thousand-year duke" should be "Lord Millennium" or "Millennie", what the Noah call the Earl v04.57 ENG "With the Heart, we could bring this conflict to an end once and for all!" -> "With the Heart, we'll finally have the power to prevent the End (of the world)." v04.57 ENG Komui's explanation about the Heart is way longer in JPN, saying the Cube doesn't describe how to identify it, saying Hevlaska inspects each piece, etc. (he rants for a while) v04.63 ENG "General Theodore" -> "General Tiedoll" (we start seeing "Tiedoll" by v05.135, though I don't know if that's a later printing v04.67 ENG vol "Our scientists created these Golems." -> "Cross, who is also a scientist, created this Golem." v04.67 ENG vol "They're meant to be able to find their masters no matter where they are." > "It [Tim] should be able to be to find its master [Cross] wherever he is." v04.67 ENG vol "Between Tim and Allen, General Cross will be like a rat in a trap!" -> "Also, now that Allen, who knows his patterns of movement so well, is here, he'll be like a rat in a trap!" v04.69 ENG "You took the bandage off? But it made you look tough." -> "What, you took the doodles off? But you had such an interesting face!" v04.69 ENG "At a great distance, a golem" might instead be "At a great distance, Tim" v04.70 ENG Lavi's "What does he live on? / Debt?" should be "What does he live on? Does he pay his own way? / He's rich?", which is why Allen is holding up the X and saying "DEBT" v04.78 ENG "Hoshino and his editor" -> "Hoshino and her editor Mr. Y" v04.79 ENG "We have to go back and look for him!" and "What is he, a little kid?" are in the wrong text boxes, and Bookman saying "If you go now you can make it there in one jump with your extending pole", which is why Lavi replies "It's a hammer, panda!" v04.84+85+93+98 ENG "Count Krory" -> "Baron Krory" v04.89 ENG "Count Krory" -> "Krory" (x2) v04.123 ENG "Lavi and I will deal with the Count." -> "Lavi and I will go to the castle." v04.132 ENG "no time to be finding love" -> "no time to be getting aroused" v04.133+153 ENG "Count" -> "Baron" v04.147 ENG "my grandfather's precious flowers", furigana say "flowers" but the kanji read "memento" v04.148 ENG "It will make you strong and ferocious." -> "When you take (my) blood into your mouth, you're able to transform into a powerful vampire." v04.155 ENG "It's him ..." -> "Baron" v04.156 ENG "The uniforms of the Black Order" -> "Exorcist uniforms" v05 (8th printing) cover once again changes the shape of the cross in DGM's logo v05 black/white/red inner cover omitted in ENG vol; this time it's Road and the Earl pulling on Tyki's arms from opposite directions v05 ENG summary "It all began centuries ago" -> "It all began about a century ago" v05 ENG summary, omits that the Flood was about 7000 years ago and that they're fighting to prevent the second coming of the End, the 'three days of darkness' v05.24 ENG "Wenham" -> "Wenhamm" v05.24 ENG "centuries ago" -> "about a century ago" v05.25 ENG "there was just a command center" is missing next part of phrase, "there were only Exorcists and a few personnel who supported them" (check trans!) v05.36 ENG "Count Krory" -> "Kro-kins, Kro-chan, Krorykins", however you want to translate Lavi's nickname for him v05.40 ENG "Go! Help Krorykins!!" -> "I can't get to Krorykins!!" v05.42 ENG "centuries" -> "century" v05.65 ENG "Count Krory" -> "Mr. Krory" v05.69 ENG "And you'll be saving a lot of people." -> "If you have a reason, you can keep on living." v05.70 ENG "That could give you a reason to live." -> "It's okay to live for that reason." v05.74 ENG "Count Krory" -> "Krorykins" (how manga translates nickname Kro-chan) v05.78 ENG refers to Hoshino as "he" when she's female (but this may not have been widely known back then?) v05.89 ENG Bookman's line "Lenalee" > "Miss Lena" v05.90 ENG "demons" > "Akuma" v05.93 ENG "Maybe he found something interesting" -> "Don't tell me, he got lost ...?" v05.100 ENG "But he's just a kid! Sheesh!" -> "We underestimated him, thinking he's just a kid!" v05.100 ENG "Where'd he learn that stuff?!" -> "He's no ordinary person!!" v05.100 ENG "This can't possibly be luck!" -> "Aren't you way too strong?" v05.101 ENG "That's not like you." -> "You were that sort of character!?" v05.101 ENG "risked my life learning to play cards" -> "risked my life polishing my skills" (at cheating, presumably) v05.101 ENG "Never seen Allen like this" - > "Allen is daaark ..." v05.101 ENG "Creepy ..." -> "Dark ..." v05.101 ENG "Lavi was a little disturbed by Allen's wicked side" -> "Lavi saw an unexpected side of Allen." v05.102 ENG "Isn't it kind of cold to walk around naked?" -> "Isn't it too cold this time of year to walk around naked?" v05.102 ENG "Hmph ..." -> "Boy ..." v05.103 ENG "We're starting work in the mines today." -> "Actually, starting today we're supposed to work outside in the mines around here." v05.113 ENG "Millennium Earl" -> "Lord Millennium" v05.114 ENG "Tap Dop" -> "Tup Dop" v05.117 ENG "two miles" -> "three kilometers" v05.117 ENG "three miles" -> "five kilometers" v05.118 ENG "six-mile" -> "ten-kilometer" v05.119 ENG "Fire!" -> "Shoot!" v05.122+125 ENG "Tyki" -> "Tycky" v05.124 ENG "I want you to be my messenger." -> "I want you to go to this place as my messenger." v05.126 ENG "Tyki" -> "Tyki-pon, Tyki-pet" v05.132 ENG "have a scene where Allen has to dig up a graveyard" -> "[this] and a scene where a beloved woman Akuma is bitten to death" v05.132 ENG "I wanted to draw" -> "I wanted to draw it so I got them to do it / let me do it" (I'm not sure if this is Hoshino writing or if the (Oi) is supposed to indicate it's her assistant Oi-chan? kakitakute yarasete moratta ... v05.137 ENG "I'm a General. My mission is more important." > "I will fulfill my duties as a General." v05.139,144,145 ENG "Zokalo" > "Socalo" v05.139 ENG "Cloud" > "Klaud" v05.147 ENG "But his poor family ..." > "How cruel" v05.150 ENG "a handsome guy like Beckham" > "a handsome Noah like Beckham" (or "a handsome guy like Beckham as a Noah") v05.158 ENG "Lenalee" > "Miss Lena" v05.159 ENG "BLUSH" > "HUSH" v05.168 ENG the Special Thanks page is missing "Yamada-kun" above "Oi-chan" v05.172 ENG "I like it. It's understated" must be sarcasm, as JPN says it's flashy/gaudy v05.175 ENG "Yowza" > "Strike" v05.177 ENG "Would you like to speak to your brother?" > "to the Chief?" v05.177 ENG "I figured he was indisposed" > "Then that would defeat the purpose of intentionally calling you, Sect. Ldr. Reever" v05.177 ENG "Komui's sleeping" > "the Chief's sleeping" v05.182 ENG "For years I have been a supporter" > "I have been a supporter since my mother's time" JPN v05 has 2 pages of fanart submitted by readers after the chapters (before next-vol preview)
v06 cover (7th printing) changes the design of the cross in the logo, as with previous volumes The JPN volume has a color spread of Lavi, Kanda and Allen not found in the ENG vol. (It also has Yossy the rabbit on a cross) There's also a rough sketch double-page showing the prototype of DGM, "Robin's" Then the insert page (only in JPN vol) has Cross in a pose above Allen saying "Pay up" with debt/bills falling down, in parody of the scene with Tyki and the deck of cards. STORY: "It all began centuries ago" > "about a century ago". Also missing the details that the Flood ('the three days of darkness') was 7000 years ago. The paragraph beginning "Forces of the Millennium Earl" is pretty loosely translated too. v06.09-10: "Are they coming for us?" > "Are they coming to stop us?" v06.40 ENG "... God is wroth. Such an act is a terrible sin, and one that falls from grace." > "'Fall' refers to the sin of a non-apostle trying to synchronize with God." v06.41 ENG "There is no escape" > "Running away is unforgiveable" v06.42 ENG "that Hoshino guy / he" > "that Hoshino gal / she" v06.42 ENG "hamburgers" > "hamburg steaks" v06.43+78 ENG "Wenham" > "Wenhamm" (the original is clear, so this must be an intentional change) v06.44+48 ENG "Sokaro" > "Socalo" (and v7 "Zokalo" same) v06.46 ENG "What power!" > "What destructive power!" v06.46 ENG "It vaporized the Akuma!" > "It vaporized that many Akuma in an instant!" v06.48 ENG "Suman has a parasite-type Innocence like you do." > "Suman is a parasite-type accommodator like you are." v06.48 ENG Lenalee says "I heard" the info about Suman (probably from Reever or Komui?) v06.49 ENG "I don't know what happened ... to the boy." > "I don't know what happened ... to the boy who became a Fallen One." v06.52 ENG "Don't get too close to him" > "We'd better not step into this hole." v06.58 ENG "Suman's memories" > "Suman's feelings/emotions" v06.59 ENG "and begged the Akuma to spare you" > "and made a deal with the devil" (it's written 悪魔 here, not the usual AKUMA) v06.59 ENG "You betrayed the Innocence." ('Innocence' is the furigana given for the kanji 'God') v06.60 ENG "KEVIN BARRY" is a typo and should be removed. Also note "Jerry" for Jeryy and "The Millennium Earl" for "The Earl of Millennium" v06.61 ENG "He fled the battle in fear." > "He became afraid of dying and fled the battlefield." v06.70 ENG "my friend" > "my comrade" (does Allen even know Suman?) v06.78 ENG Komui omake #3: "What kind of stupid question is that?" > "At least write 'noodle' with the kanji." (Reader used katakana instead) v06.96 ENG "in the bath in vol. 4." > "in the bath that Allen showed in vol. 4." v06.96 ENG "Grr ...", JPN vol. explains that it's the sound of Kanda's blood vessel/s bursting v06.96 ENG "Twitch", JPN vol. explains that it's the sound of a vein in his forehead sticking up v06.102 ENG "Section Chief Reever, does this mean that Suman ..." - they use 'incompatible' / no longer an Accommodator, and say yappari 'after all' so I think the speaker is speculating that this confirms that Suman betrayed the Order v06.104 ENG "But I haven't seen him in the commissary for a while." > "So now whenever we see each other in the cafeteria he's been ignoring me." v06.105 ENG "What ... are you saying ... Komui?" > "What ... are you saying ... Brother?" v05.107 ENG "The Earl's minions killed more than a hundred of our people in their quest for the Heart." > "You heard how the other day, the Order lost more than a hundred of our people, right?" v06.115 ENG "but of a man who loved his family more than anything, a man who was forced to make terrible choices" isn't based on what the JPN text says. Rather, it's more like "but this is the story of an Exorcist who fought as a soldier. I drew this fully realizing that they aren't warriors who live in the horrors of war, but humans who became soldiers." "Pity him" is also unique to the ENG version. v06.120-1 ENG "Someone's ... breaking" is wrong. Allen says "Someone [help me!]", and then the panel "Break" as a command isn't Allen speaking ... I think it might be Suman's Innocence, or possibly Allen's. It's written weird in katakana. v06.134 ENG "Count Krory" - JPN just has "Krory", and he's a Baron in the JPN version v06.148 ENG "his soul" - mind, heart, soul ... kokoro is harder to translate. But this isn't tamashii here v06.152 ENG "They were made by the Earl" has lero after it, which is who's speaking v06.152 ENG "HEY" in the box in the bottom right is Gunma in katakana in the JPN vol v06.155 ENG "No ... No ..." should be "No ... ah ..." (i.e. 'Noah') v06.164 ENG "by the Earl" > "by the Lord Millennium". "the Earl's choice" > "his choice/taste" v06.166 ENG "without even exerting myself" > "without cutting your body with a blade" v06.170 ENG Special Thanks: the placement of Yamada-san and Akiyama-san are mixed up. v06.174-5 ENG "start with your Innocence". Tyki actually says Innocence no yarou, 'that Innocence bastard' v06.176 ENG "The Heart is the jackpot" > "That's the 'sign' it's the Heart." v06.183 ENG "You were ordered to" > "The Lord Millennium ordered you to" v07 ENG (6th edition), the photograph of Koro is in color in the JPN vol v07 ENG is missing the inner black/white/red page. The JPN vol7 has an illustration showing that Bak, who's the same age (29) as Komui, is the same height as Allen (15) v07 ENG "STORY": "It all began centuries ago" > "It all began about a century ago" v07 ENG "STORY": like previously, the JPN volume says the Flood occurred 7000 years ago and that the Cube calls it "the three days of darkness." The 2nd paragraph of STORY in the ENG volume is a pretty loose reinterpretation, but the changes don't really matter so I won't bother translating the original. v07 ENG: cross in title logo altered like in previous volumes v07 Characters: Bak Chan > Bak Chang v07.10 ENG "A card?" > "A Western playing card?" v07.19 ENG "Samo Han Wong, Assistant Director. Black Order, Asia Branch" > "Sammo Han Won, Black Order, Asia Branch Director's Assistant." v07.24 ENG "Well, Kanda made a mess of things" > "Well, Yu made a mess of things" v07.24 ENG "ordered the two of us to do it" > add here "and answer the questions properly." v07.24 ENG "Q. Does Lavi have a thing for cute girls with big breasts?" > "Q. Is Lavi's taste in girls for ones with cute faces and big breasts, but he doesn't care about their personalities?" v07.24 ENG "(Allen): He's a menace." > "(Allen): His taste lies in female enemies, right?" v07.35 ENG "Lenalee's having a hard time" > "Miss Lena is having a hard time" v07.37 ENG "Sorry, Lenalee" > "Sorry, Miss Lena." v07.38 ENG "Remember that we cooperate with the Black Order only for the purpose of keeping records." > "Remember that we only happen to be on this side in order to make our records." v07.39 ENG "Don't forget your duty" > "Don't forget your goal" v07.47 ENG "He scares me" > "She scares me" (Mahoja is female, which Lavi knows by now) v07.50 ENG "I don't intend to sleep" > "Ah, we're good then. Not sleeping is my specialty." v07.57 ENG "I'm not the one" > "We're not the ones" v07.58 ENG "Allen's heart was punctured. Death was imminent. But his heart was healed ... when particles of his Innocence entered his body and sealed the wound." > "Allen's heart was punctured. Death was imminent. But what healed his heart ... was particles of his Innocence that had become like dust and shouldn't even be activated, which entered his body and sealed the hole all on its own, acting as a substitute for his cells." v07.60 ENG Lavi "I'd be a Bookman. I have no interest in being anything else." The JPN vol has another sentence in between those two about how he even became an Exorcist. v07.60 ENG "A noodle maker?" > "A merchant who makes soba?" v07.62+67+77 ENG "Allen" > in the JPN, Won calls him "Walker-kun" v07.62 ENG "It's still cruel" - Specifically, Rohfa says "God" is cruel v07.78 ENG "80 square feet" and "120 square feet" are "10 jou" and "15 jou" in Japanese (畳, tatami mat). A 'jou' is either 1.54 or 1.82 square meters, so 10 jou is either around 165 or 196 square feet, and 15 jou is around either 249 or 294 square feet. So I'm not sure where Viz gets their numbers, unless the online converters I used are off. v07.82 ENG "She did?" > "'ore-sama?'" (Allen is reacting to the pronoun Bak uses when upset) v07.83 ENG "Allen Walker" > "Walker-kun" (by Won) v07.84 ENG "Allen" > JPN "Walker" (by For) v07.84 ENG "People have been known to take a wrong turn and nearly starve to death" > "One time, someone got lost for two weeks and nearly starved to death." v07.87 ENG "this stuff was swirling around you like a fog" excludes the JPN "as if to protect you" v07.87 ENG "TRUDGE" > "can't see" v07.87 ENG "It was no picnic ..." > "That's when I realized it was Innocenc v07.87 ENG "That surprised me" > "He even said something unscientific for once." v07.89+95+102+117+123 ENG "Allen" > Bak and Rikei call him "Walker" in JPN v07.96 ENG Discussion Room "whisper into Komui's ear WHILE HE'S ASLEEP" v07.96 ENG the ? after Lavi's "I can't take it" should be an ! v07.105 ENG "... Even with a high synchronization rate." > "Even if they're able to synchronize, they can't restrain the vast force of the Innocence that well." v07.109 ENG "Allen" > For calls him "Walker" in JPN v07.109 ENG "Fo is the materialized form of the guardian deity" is missing the detail where JPN says Fo "isn't a human but ..." v07.114 ENG "between the ages of 18 and 40" > JPN has "10 and 40" v07.122 ENG "Allen" > Rohfa calls him "Walker-san" in the JPN v07.124 ENG the placement of "Lo Hwa!" and "I'm sorry!" should be reversed v07.128 ENG "General Zokalo" > the ENG volume omits his first name, "Winters" which is in the JPN page here v07.140 ENG "For a Bookman ... attachments are a liability" could be "doesn't need a heart." v07.150 ENG name spellings in character ranking: Jerry, Eeze, Bak Chan, Alestina (JPN has full name), Tap Dopp, Pazu, Baba, Skin Boric, Place Robin (just 'Robin'). Pazu should be Bazu v07.168 ENG Special Thanks page. The JPN version has different formatting for the names: alternating black/white letters, and three columns. So "Coro" and "Adam" are separate entries, as are "Sakuma" and "Yoshida-san." v07.182 ENG check Kindle: ebook version is missing chapter page, instead has ad for next volume v07.183 ENG "Sorry, Count" > "Sorry, Krory" v08 ENG (6th printing): cover page changes cross in DGM logo like previous volumes v08 ENG (like previous volumes) omits the special insert art. This time it's Shifu, Rikei, Won and Allen dressed in the same female outfit/hairstyle as Rohfa v08 ENG 'STORY' same issues as before, i.e. "centuries ago" > "about a century ago", omitting 3 Days of Darkness and 'about 7000 years ago' v08.16 ENG "Sound Shackles" > "Water Shackles" v08.28 ENG "The ship! It must be sinking!" This is wrong; the first is Lenalee's thoughts "So that means that ..." and the second part is Eshi saying "The ship is sinking". v08.40 ENG omake "who has his hair styled like a girl's" > literally "man (with) straight-cut bangs". This term, pattsun, will show up in following chapters later on as a derogatory nickname for Kanda v08.40 ENG omake "gentle stream of water" instead of mushin and shaberu shikabane "talking corpse" v08.40 ENG omake "he" for Hoshino should be "she" v08.43 ENG moves "The ecstasy" down to the bottom panels, and in doing so omits all of what's written there in the JPN original. Quoting Funimation's TL of those lines: "I can ... I can tell that woman's heartbeat is getting weak. I can hear her heart squeak from the oppression of the water pressure." v08.44 ENG "Not even Eshi can go to those terrible depths" omits "even since evolving to Level 3," v08.47 ENG "I see the twisted faces of tortured souls. They enter my eye and crawl around inside my head." > "The screams of many souls that I shouldn't be able to hear, they pass through my left eye and crawl around inside my body." v08.55 ENG "are my comrades from the Order" > Funi TL "the faces of my comrades inside the wall called the Order." v08.58 ENG version is missing an entire sentence about Komui's reaction to Komlin being dismantled from the Discussion Room omake. v08.65 ENG "Eshi's ability" > "Eshi's ability caused by dark matter" v08.65 ENG "then my Innocence" missing that Innocence is dark matter's opposite v08.73 ENG "Why aren't you using your hammer?" > "Why aren't you using the Wood Stamp?" v08.76 ENG omake "Millennium Earl" > "Lord Millennium". And the JPN version has ages/locations/gender for the people submitting questions. v08.86 ENG "Wha..." > "Above?" v08.89 ENG "She's gathering all the mass around her!!" > "With that excessive amount of gravity ..." v08.93 ENG "tens of thousands of pounds" > "tens of thousands of tons" v08.94 ENG the omake is missing 2 sentences from Allen about Hoshino's personal opinion on the whole Gintama/Lavi thing v08.98 ENG "You're the one who will die, girl!" > "You're the only one who will become cinders, girl!" v08.100 ENG "You're important to me" > they're important to Anita v08.109 ENG "Kamui" > "Komui" v08.127 ENG "Lord Exorcist!?" should be "Aaaaah! Mr. Krory!!?" and "Aaaah! Count Krory?!" should be "Sir!!!!" (just has danna). And he's a Baron in the JPN version, not a Count v08.127 ENG "What is this...?!" > "This chain...!?" v08.134 ENG "They sacrificed themselves to save the ship!!" is missing "the ship and me" from the JPN v08 ENG manga omits Chomesuke's verbal tic 'cho' at the end of sentences v08.145 ENG "by General Cross" > "by Cross Marian" v08.152 ENG "Or is Lenalee" > "Or is Lenalee Lee" v08.152 ENG "valuable information for the archives" > "a valuable record/log" v08.156 ENG "Ark" > "box" v08.156 ENG "General Cross" > "Marian" v08.156 ENG "factory for manufacturing Akuma" > "Akuma enchanted body plant" v08.157 ENG "The General instructed me to tell you ... to go home. You'll only slow him down." > "Marian said that if after hearing this [warning] you'll become a hindrance, you should just go home." v08.164 ENG "release" > "forced release" v08.186+7 ENG Hoshino should be "her" instead of "his" v08.186 "wild eye" > "Hoshino" v08 has 6 pages of reader-submitted fanart after the final omake in the JPN volume (omitted in ENG vol.)

“Turk, I want to check something,” Q said to his little assistant, once, uncharacteristically, he got home straight from the Academy. He even took a cab to get there faster instead of taking a usual brisk walk or even stopping by at the Gymnasium first.
“Sure,” the little man said, appearing out of thin air on the desk. “By the sound of your voice, I’m assuming you’re still distraught. What happened?”
Q sighed and plopped down at the desk, bracing for an uncomfortable favour to ask. The hologram idled patiently, flickering between its animation sets: sitting on the board, cross-legged, pacing here and there, looking at its nonexistent watch.
Finally, the man spoke, “I need to trace a person. Iliya has been acting strange lately. I’d like to see him.”
“I thought you promised yourself not to violate Astapadans’ privacy like this,” the Turk frowned.
Q cried out, voice defeated, “I know, I know! I just need to know he’s ok! No actual camera footage, just the spot and the vitals, I swear!”
He hid his eyes in the palm of his hand, the other clenched in a tight fist on the desk surface. The small simulation soothingly tapped on it with a minuscule hand of its own.
“I just want to remind you that focusing on one target will leave the whole surveillance system blind for the time. You know how the system works,” it said.
“Yes, I know,” Q said again. “But it’s only for a minute or so. Nothing happens in Ashtapada anyway, a minute of missing footage isn’t going to break the AI. Please, Tee, I really need to know where he is.”
“You don’t need my permission,” the Turk said. “You have the tools and the access. Who are you really asking? Me or your conscience?”
He finally looked at the hologram through the fingers over his eyes — “Then let me ask you, Turk. What do you think? Should I use my access to spy on a man I’m in love with?”
The Turk shrugged, swiping a bit of dust from the glassy surface with its foot — “What do I know? I’m just a virtual assistant.”
“Don’t give me attitude, T!” Q said, pointing at his simulation accusingly. It looked comical how little this affected the Turk even though he was just about as tall as the finger in front of his face. “Tell me not to, and I won’t.”
“No, I will not,” the Turk said, deliberately. He looked over the finger to meet Q’s eyes again. “You are a big boy and need to make your own decisions even if they are bad ones.”
“So it’s a bad decision after all,” the man asked.
“Obviously,” the Turk confirmed.
“Obviously,” — a defeated sigh — “T, pull up the surveillance control panel.”
It wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
Not only wasn’t Iliya to be found in any of the places he usually frequented, including his own room in the communal living complex, but his wristcomm had actually been left in the Academy garden just this morning. Next to it, Sereen’s.
A cold sticky feeling filled Q’s stomach as he battled with his own integrity.
Was he being made a fool of? Did they...?
No, he wouldn’t speculate until he saw it with his own two eyes.
“Engage the cameras, Turk,“ he barked. His assistant didn’t protest. The desk lit up with thousands of pictures streaming Ashtapadan streets and buildings, people going about their business and cabs passing through the underground tunnels.
“Run face recognition, find where Iliya and Sereen are. And if they are together. Include restricted areas into the search.”
It took a minute even with the full AI capacity at his disposal but it was done. The picture that the Turk selected simultaneously eased his heart and aroused a whole new wave of dismay in Q.
“Stream in 3D,” he said, voice tight, not noticing how his teeth dug into the inner side of his cheek.
It was a scene innocent enough at first glance. Serene, Iliya and around a dozen more people stood around a repair table in a place that resembled a workshop. The status data indicated that it was one of the hound maintenance facilities, on the outskirts of the city. An inactive hound, lifeless, was lying on the table, stretched like an anatomy dummy, its metal belly exposed and various components carefully laid out nearby. The audience all gathered around a plump man in blue working robes and a pair of glasses who was disassembling the machine, voicelessly pointing out its parts as he revealed them.
“Turn on the sound, I want to hear them,” Q ordered.
Turk did as he was told, with a little regretful sigh that went coldly disregarded.
“So as you can see, the hounds seem to be absolutely harmless,” the robed man said, pushing his glasses up after they slid down his nose. “But I think I found something that our friend Sereen will find interesting.”
Sereen looked at Iliya with a meaningful expression.
“What is it, D?” she asked.
Q couldn’t put his finger on it, but everyone else there obviously knew each other and the dissector, as well as Sereen. Iliya looked doubtful and out of this place.
Was it a mechanics course? Q wasn’t aware of any classes taught outside Academy but there were definitely clubs of interest. Was it one of those? They didn’t break this hound on purpose, did they?
“Who’s the man in glasses?” Q demanded. “He seems familiar, is it—”
“Dee Tache. He’s a Newcomer. Has been for almost a decade now. Main occupation is manual repair and maintenance of service hounds,” the Turk reported.
So Iliya and Sereen were just visiting a robotics interest group? But why be so conspiratorial about it? Why did they hide the comms to avoid being tracked?
“This one,” the man in glasses said, “And many others that I have repaired over the years, have a weird module in their corpus. It is nearly always empty or filled with some placeholder parts.”
Everyone including Sereen ooohed as if it made sense to them. Iliya still looked lost. Even filled with worry, Q couldn’t help but notice how much more graceful his figure was in contrast with the rest of the people hunched over the table, even in the wavering transmission of the camera.
Iliya, my love. What have you gotten yourself into?
“Can anyone tell me what this sector’s shape remind you of?” Dee asked.
Everyone fell silent. It was S who spoke up.
“A firearm.”
The people in the room exchanged heavy knowing looks.
“Wait,” Iliya finally said. “Do you mean to tell me that the hounds in the streets are actually armed?”
Now everyone’s eyes turned to him. Q felt an iron taste on his tongue and realised that he chewed his cheek bloody. He held his breath, not daring to skip a single word that would be spoken. These people were walking on very thin ice.
“Is he trustworthy, Sereen?” someone asked.
“First, of course he is,” Sereen bit out. “Second, why are you asking? It’s not illegal to study mechanisms, is it?”
The one who asked awkwardly shuffled back. Q felt a surreal mix of gratitude for standing up for Iliya mixed with distrust about her true intentions.
He should’ve known that that woman wasn’t backing out of her conspiracy ideas so easily. Now there’s apparently the whole group of sympathisers who probably considered themselves to be some kind of resistance force in the making. Fighting against an oppressive regime? Is that what they thought they were doing?
Jaw clenched to the point of cramping muscle, fists tight on the glossy desk, Q felt stupid for doubting his initial urge to use the cameras. He should’ve been doing it all these years, not relying on the AI whose dispersed attention couldn’t possibly pick up on things like that. This was happening right under its nose and the AI was not doing anything about these conspirators… These ungrateful… scum who were taking Ashtapadan gifts with one hand and plotting to overturn it with the other. And now Iliya was being lured into this!
D answered, “As far as I know the hounds in the street aren’t armed.”
The group visibly relaxed at these words, as he went on, “However, I find it worrying that a lot of the models that are being manufactured and work alongside humans have these strange empty modules. It almost feels like... like some kind of barrel and some ammunition can be fitted there, perhaps as an add-on. See these clasps? I used to serve and saw things like these on firearms that are meant to be mounted somewhere.”
“I told you all, didn’t I?” Sereen butted in. “There’s an army of robots that can kill us if we start disobeying.”
Iliya looked at her in horror.
“Let’s not be rash,” someone else said in a reasonable tone. “Dee said he never saw a single weapon in any of the hounds, right? We shouldn’t be jumping to conclusions here.”
You better jump in a completely different direction if you don’t want any problems.
“Yes, but they COULD be fitted with weapons, right? One moment they deliver our groceries and next thing we know they’re herding us into concentration camps!” Sereen answered, a familiar fanatic light in her eyes.
“Wait, S,” — Iliya put a gentle hand on her shoulder and the gesture pierced Q with a pang of jealousy — “Please don’t say things like this. A hound have never hurt a person before, right? I haven’t been here for long, but I’ve never had a reason to be afraid of them.”
“No reason that you know of,” S sneered. Some of the people around nodded in agreement. “Try committing a crime and see what a hound does.”
“Don’t be silly, Sereen,” D tried to reason. “Your friend is right, there’s literally no evidence the hounds might or have ever harmed anyone.”
“Well, maybe not the ones that we see in the streets,” she insisted. “Maybe a firearm can be attached to one at a moment’s notice! Maybe there’s some evil mastermind sitting behind a desk somewhere, listening to us uncovering this whole thing. Maybe he has already sent a fleet of armed robots to deal with us and they’re coming to turn us into a pin cushion!”
Everyone fell into an eerie silence.
Laughable. He would never.
Would he?
Q unclenched his fists and, as if called out by Sereen’s acumen, put conscious effort into relaxing his body.
They didn’t know what they were talking about. Children’s game, all of it. Nothing to worry about. Miriam would probably say that they should be allowed to meet up in secret and blow off steam scaring each other with their boogieman stories. They didn’t have the slightest idea what they were talking about, after all.
He should end the transmission. He’d seen enough.
“One more thing,” Sereen said, breaking the silence once again. “The ones that go through that Citizenship ceremony. I’m surprised no one talks about how they always seem to be assigned work in a completely different part of Ashtapada after that. I’ve never seen any new Citizens stay where they lived as Newcomers.”
“Alright, this is getting ridiculous,” another person said. “Everyone knows that the ceremony is actually a surgery that enhances a person’s body with implants to prolong their life. There’s a recovery period after that, of course they are sent away.”
“I think Lee is right,” D weighed in. His opinion clearly was valued. “A lot of Citizens’ neighbourhoods are also in a different part of Ashtapada so when they are given their new accommodation they have to move there.”
“Sereen...” Iliya attempted again but was cut off by her sharp glare.
“Well, why don’t they return to visit old friends then?” — there was something peculiar in her tone, something almost broken — “And if they do, they don’t seem the same?”
Everyone was tense. Q’s jaw popped with an unappetizing sound.
“Alright, everybody,” Dee concluded. “We’ve heard enough. Iliya, please take Sereen home and make sure she calms down.”
“Of course, D,” the boy promised. “It was nice meeting you all.”
Q slammed the transmission off with a palm nearly splitting the sensitive desk top in half.
The Turk looked at him with a sad “I told you it was a bad idea”.
So this was it. A group of conspirators. He would have them under constant supervision from now on. With Sereen and Iliya under his personal observation.
How could he have ignored this? How could the AI have not seen it? For years, he had played the good guy, believing in Ashtapada’s rhetoric about personal freedoms, just to stumble upon this completely by chance!
He wouldn’t be so blind now. It was sheer luck that his jealousy uncovered this wasp nest. Maybe he had to listen to his gut more often.
***
It was dark already and Q had just returned back home from a run that cleared his head a bit. A message from Iliya popped onto his screen, “Can I come over?”
***
Iliya was predictably distressed and Q felt a wave of warmth at the realisation that his student came for comfort to him and no other.
His sweet boy needed love, affection and just a tiny bit of guidance.
He wasn’t going to ask any questions. Pry him about the missing wristcomm tracking data, interrogate him on where he’d been or what he was thinking about, none of that. Iliya needed to know that if there was a safe place in this city, it was beside Q.
He was beside the man quite literally now, slender frame stretched on a barely used sofa with his head on Q’s lap, eyes closed, soft hums escaping at the hand playing with his hair. The silky strands were platinum blond now and Q once again wondered how his boy manages to change the colours so often.
Mind already clear of the cold fury he felt several hours ago, it felt as if the rest of the world ceased to exist for a while, only he and his Iliya were real, alone at his home, in this city, in this world. Nothing could have made him stop admiring the boy who seemed like he was about to fall asleep in his lap.
Very few words had been spoken since he came over.
Q brushed a thumb over Iliya’s full eyebrows, gently traced the rim of his exposed ear, his neck, his Adam’s apple. Like a sleepy cat, his student lazily revelled in the touch, turning slightly to press his skin into the caress. His sensuous lips parted a bit, as if he wanted to say something, but then pressed together again after a small sigh.
“What is it, Iliya?” Q probed. “Are you comfortable?“
A pair of dark eyes opened on the youthful face and the professor’s breath hitched for a moment. What had he done to have such treasure here, in the same room, so trusting, so delicate, looking at him with such love?
“I’m... A bit tired,” he said, evasively. “Thank you for letting me come over.”
“Anytime, cuddly boy,” Q smiled.
Iliya scoffed, “Cuddly boy? Is that the pet name you’re going with?”
“But you like cuddles, don’t you? I could call you Cuddles. Or would you prefer I call you something else? Sweety, honey, baby?”
“Miriam could’ve called me that! And she’s my grandma’s age!” Iliya laughed, but seemed pleased. “What should I call you? Now that you won’t let me call you Teach?”
“How about... a boyfriend?” Q suggested, holding his breath.
“A boyfriend!” — Iliya sat up on the sofa with his hands on his hips, face lit up in a playful offense — “It takes more for me to call someone a boyfriend than a little make-out session and some handholding, you know!”
Q chuckled.
His student was finally his mischievous self again. Better strike while the iron is hot!
“This humble servant would be happy to do anything to make his Cuddles happy tonigh...mmmn!” he said, but before he could finish, his thighs were straddled and lips were taken with a ravenous kiss as the smaller man embraced his face with both hands.
Like that day in the sewer facility, Iliya didn’t waste much time beating around the bush and let his mouth loose to explore what was on offer. There was a lot: the smiling lips of his teacher, his flushed cheekbones, his jaw that obediently turned under his persistent hands, exposing the neck with pronounced muscles. Q felt like his thoughts were melting away, the heavy sweetness already brewing in his lower parts, as he let the boy take off his shirt and trace the broad shoulders and sculpted chest with hunger.
“You’re gonna look so damn good on top of me,” Iliya breathed out, his own arousal evident in the voice as well as visually. Not a trace of shame in this devil. “Take me to the bedroom, Q.”
“What’s the rush?” the man teased lazily, stretching his arms over the backrest of the sofa. “You don’t think it’s going to be over in a minute, do you?”
Iliya whined as he ground his hips forward, still in a pair of pants, over his teacher’s abs.
The sound, or perhaps this desperate gesture, or perhaps a combination of both, sent a round of sparks under Q’s skin. He braced the delicate body on top of him, dropped it back on the sofa with his hand carefully under the other’s head.
“I’ll be on top if you say or beneath if you order. Tonight I’ll do anything you command, Cuddles, as many times as you want” he growled into his student’s ear,
Iliya gasped at a pair of strong hands hiking his shirt up, kneading the muscle of his waist, gently but persistently. The boy’s bare throat lured the other’s sight with an irresistibly bobbing Adam’s apple that didn’t go long before being covered with a hungry mouth. Dropping the other on the sofa, Q made sure to land between his thighs that are now were deliciously spread, coarse fabric no doubt pressing on the parts that desperately needed attention.
“Aaah, Q!” the young man sighed in a tight voice, rolling his hips in an attempt to get more of this delicious pressure. “Don’t tease me!”
“Patience, my sweet boy,” the man whispered hotly in his ear before carefully biting down on it. “I’ve waited for this so long, it’s your turn to suffer.”
A small noise and another forlorn grind of the hips later, Q lifted himself on his elbows to survey his newfound estate, noting with satisfaction how wrecked the boy already looked. His shiny hair in disarray, red glistening mouth panting, eyes misty, asking for more.
“You’re so fucking beautiful, Iliya,” Q revered breathlessly. “I cannot believe that you’re real.”
To his surprise, a small graceful frown darkened his student’s dazed face. Iliya tangled his fingers in the teacher’s cool strands of hair and tugged. Q let his mouth fall open at it, careless of how vulnerable he looked.
“Everyone says I’m beautiful,” Ilia said in a serious, almost scolding tone. Q didn’t think anything could sound hotter. “Tell me something new.”
The man laughed, trying to release some of the tension in the lower regions. Falling back on Iliya again he whispered in a heated chant, “Beautiful, and graceful, and smart and sexy. Greedy to be felt up by his teacher, pinned to the wall or a sofa or the bed? Wanting to be taken so bad but bossing me around? If this is your tactics to make me ravage you, my sweet boy, then it’s working.”
Effortlessly lifting the smaller body in the air, he hoisted his spoils over the shoulder and, giving them a good smack on the buttocks, finally headed to the bedroom.

2024.05.24 20:42 lordofwar28 Steps to repaint my peeling siding?

Hi all,
The paint on the front of my house (wood/plywood siding) is peeling and looks like crap. I intend on having new siding someday (hoping in next 5 years), but for now I’d just like to make it look a little nicer with a paint job. I have my rough plan outlined, but wanted to run it by ya’ll to see if I’m missing anything and ask a few questions about the process and products.
THE PLAN 1 - give it a thorough clean with a low pressure power washer
2 - scrape loose paint off as much as possible
3 - with paint chips available from scraping bring those into pain store for color match.
Does anyone have recommendations for exterior paint? I have a SW and BM store near me, also from what I’ve read latex is go to but several sources loves acrylic?
4 - sand targeted areas with orbital, not sure what grit?
5 - caulk gaps, I’ve seen OSI quad recommended and was planning on using that. Any other products I should consider?
6 - prime with oil-based primer, kilz recommended?
7 - paint
I feel like this is something I can tackle , but I want to make sure I do it right.
Edit - some pictures of the siding in question. https://imgur.com/a/qJ2Addg
