Compilation of unanswered r/AskHistorians questions I've asked over the years
2024.06.11 11:35 EnclavedMicrostate Compilation of unanswered r/AskHistorians questions I've asked over the years
Mainly for my own benefit, I've compiled here a (by no means complete) list of questions I've asked on
AskHistorians over the years that never got answered, or where the answer was either only a partial one or unsatisfactory to me for any other reason. If you'd like me to repost one because you might have something for it, give me a shout! Much as I'd like to group these by theme, I've just gone in reverse order of submission.
- In 1997, Egon Krenz, the last leader of East Germany, was jailed for six and a half years on manslaughter charges. Why did Krenz's prosecution come so late after reunification, and was it at all typical for former senior members of the Socialist Unity Party to be charged in post-unification Germany?
- In September 1989 protests broke out in East Germany seemingly calling for liberal reforms ('Wir sind das Volk'). How did these morph into calls for reunification ('Wir sind ein Volk') with the West so quickly by October? How far did supporters of the reforms align with supporters of reunification?
- In 1921, Emperor Hirohito of Japan apparently said that "Mexico and Japan are children of the same mother”. What were relations between Mexico and Japan like in the interwar period, and what prompted this comment in particular, assuming it was real?
- Did Herbert Morrison try to replace Clement Attlee as Labour leader just two days before they won the 1945 general election?
- This is a claim that seems to have popped up on a couple of my feeds, coupled with the related claim that Ernest Bevin rushed Attlee to the palace to ensure he secured the premiership before party shenanigans occurred. Is there any substance to this?
- Looking through Wikipedia's page on home console generations, it seems shocking how well the PlayStation 1 and 2 sold compared to their competitors. How did Sony so quickly dominate the market compared to its more established competitors in Nintendo and Sega?
- What were relations like between Lesotho and apartheid South Africa?
- How did political and religious leaders in the Ottoman Empire view the Protestant Reformation?
- Plains Indian Sign Language was once used across much of North America west of the Missisippi, but how many people knew it? Would there only ever be a few 'speakers' in any given community, or would most Native people, at least in the 'core' area where PIST was used, have had a working knowledge?
- How accurate is the music video (linked in the post text) for Merriman Weir's 'Gallows Man' as a depiction of 17th and/or possibly early 18th century duelling and honour culture?
- Alexander's early successors really seemed to like screwing over their eldest sons in favour of other heirs (Antipatros with Polyperchon vs Kassandros, Ptolemy I putting Philadelphos before Keraunos, Lysimachos killing Agathokles). Why does it seem like only Antigonos and Demetrios got along?
- During the Sengoku period, armies often had pavise-like shields for their archers and arquebusiers, but how, specifically, were they used? Were they carried by the archers or by specialised porters? Were they used individually or in lines? And how often were they moved during battles or sieges?
- What is the history of the seemingly ubiquitous roofed shopping arcade in Japanese cities?
- Why did Japan choose to migrate entirely to the Gregorian calendar in 1873, rather than adopting a hybrid system like China's where the Gregorian system is used for daily affairs but the ritual calendar continued to follow the Chinese lunisolar system?
- What was the public response to Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming Governor of California in 2003?
- Was Nepal ever majority-Buddhist, and if so, when and why did it end up becoming majority-Hindu?
- From 1979 to 1982, Peter Carington, 6th Baron Carrington, served as Foreign Secretary under Margaret Thatcher while also being part of the House of Lords. Were there concerns at the time that as a peer, Carrington was not accountable to the Commons and could not be questioned by MPs?
- How was Scotland governed during the Interregnum of 1649-60? Discussions of the Commonwealth (at least, that I've seen) seem to focus exclusively on England and Wales.
- How Hellenistic was Hellenistic Judaism? Does the term simply refer to Judaism as it existed during the Hellenistic period, or were there considerable Greek influences on Jewish belief and practice, and if so, how much of these influences continue to the present?
- In 1916, Life Magazine published a map depicting North America if the Central Powers won the Great War, with the US partitioned between Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and... Japan. Except Japan was an Allied power. What might have led to the map's creators including it among the victors?
- The map in question. For what it's worth, Romania (another Allied power, albeit not involved until half a year after the map's publication) also seems to have nommed Jamaica.
- The Peelites seem to have emerged suddenly on the British political scene in the 1840s, and then to have vanished about as quickly and folded into the Liberals in the 1850s. Why did they split, and why did they then merge so soon after?
- How rapidly did the Imperial Russian Navy attempt to rebuild after the Russo-Japanese War, and what sorts of doctrinal and design lessons did it draw from the conflict?
- What sort of military honours were issued both to units and individual soldiers in Mughal/pre-colonial India, and did these influence the issuing of battle honours and campaign medals by the British after the 1790s?
- I ask because as far as I am aware, the first campaign medals issued in British or Empire forces were made by the East India Company for Indian troops in the eighteenth century, with the first medals for British troops being issued in 1801 for service during the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War. It is also my understanding that while a specific honour was issued for the defence of Gibraltar during the American War of Independence, the first 'generic' honour consisting only of the name of a battle on a ribbon, with no associated emblem, was for the siege of Mangalore in 1783-4, though I may well be wrong. What I am reasonably sure of is that regiments did not start claiming battles before the 1780s for honours until after the mergers caused by the Childers Reforms in 1881. Anyway, rambling aside – were these ostensibly British military traditions something that they in fact absorbed from similar or even identical practices in India?
- What were relations like between immigrant African-Americans in Liberia and indigenous peoples within claimed Liberian territory? And what were Liberian relations like with other African polities in its vicinity?
- In 1977, Patricia Crone and Michael Cook wrote Hagarism, proposing that Islam began as a branch of messianic Judaism before becoming its own religion. While much has been walked back over the years, how much still holds true? And what value does Hagarism still hold for historians of religion today?
- How much resistance was there to American overlordship of the Philippines, and what form did it take? How did anti-American movements interact with the Japanese occupation in 1941-5? And how much did formal independence in 1946 owe to pre-war developments?
- Why did Florence Foster Jenkins sing Mozart's Queen of Night aria in Italian rather than in German? Was Italian considered preferable to German for American audiences in 1944, or had an alternative Italian libretto been in use for some time already?
- 'There died that day...the finest flower of French chivalry.' So wrote Froissart of the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. But what impact did this loss have on French society? Did the 5000 or so knights killed or captured constitute a big enough chunk of the French elite to lead to radical effects?
- And indeed, were those 5000 losses particularly impactful relative to, say, the Black Death just a few years before?
- Freemasonry features heavily in some of Rudyard Kipling's most famous 'India Stories', including 'The Man Who Would be King' and 'Kim', but how prevalent were Freemasonry and Masonic institutions in British India, and what sorts of public activities did Masons in India get up to?
- The Tale of Genji is sometimes said to be the world's first novel, but how much of a splash did it make at the time? How did it influence Japanese literature, and how did it, or its derivatives, impact literature in other parts of Asia?
- After the execution of Charles I in 1649, what was the basis for the continuation of the peerage and knighthood in the British Isles? Did the Commonwealth and Protectorate governments have the ability to create and confer titles? And did other states in Europe recognise them?
- The Sudanese Mahdists seem to have been continuously at war with neighbouring regional powers, especially Egypt, from 1882 to 1899. Why was this conflict so protracted? Was there any prospect of a peace deal being brokered?
- The length of the conflict strikes me as especially notable given the public reaction in Britain to the fall of Khartoum in 1884, which doesn't seem to have translated into an immediate military re-escalation by Britain, which would not dispatch another expeditionary force until 1896. Which isn't to say that I'm presuming that a British expeditionary force would necessarily have triumphed by default, but more that I'm surprised Britain, with its imperial ambitions and effective control over Egypt, seems to have been content to live with an ongoing state of war between Egypt and Sudan for over a decade.
- Japan's military contribution to the First World War seems to have been limited to mainly naval action in the Pacific in 1914 and in the Mediterranean in 1917-18. Was the deployment of Japanese ground forces in Europe or the Middle East ever considered? If so, why did it not take place?
- Hellenistic Jewish scholars such as Josephus and Philo often wrote in Greek. Did this help bring Jewish writing and scholarship to a wider audience? How was their work received in the classical Mediterranean world in Greek and Roman circles?
- How did Prohibition in the US affect the alcohol industry in Canada?
- The Japanese wolf seems to have had a notable place in Shinto belief and folklore, yet was hunted to extinction in the early 20th century. Were there attempts to prevent the wolf's extinction, on religious grounds or otherwise? And how if at all did the extinction affect the wolf's place in Shinto?
- During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, 54 out of 74 regiments of the Bengal army mutinied and joined the uprising against British rule. What led the other 20 to side with the British instead?
- Did the division between rebel and pro-British regiments correlate significantly with caste and/or religion? Did some regiments pick sides cynically, i.e. gambling on the prospect of reward in the event of a British victory?
- How did maple syrup come to be the quintessentially Canadian staple it is today? Is its history largely post-colonisation, or was it already seeing widespread use in First Nations cuisines?
- Did Claudius have any part in the assassination of Caligula? Why did the Praetorians appoint him emperor? Had he cultivated good relations with them in the past?
- I'm aware this question has been asked a few times before, but one dimension that hasn't come up is that of whether Claudius was already a significant known entity to the Praetorian Guard. Given that he had been married to Sejanus' sister Aelia Paetina, and that Sejanus had been engaged to Claudius' sister Livilla, is it plausible that Claudius had been favoured among some of Sejanus' old allies who had survived his fall? Or is this a case where, even if plausible, it's unprovable?
- In 1920, British author John Hargrave founded a camping and hiking group called the Kindred of the Kibbo Kift, which by 1932 had morphed into the Green Shirt Movement and then in 1935 into the Social Credit Party. How did a group of vaguely neo-pagan outdoorspeople end up going political?
- Did Puritans during the reign of King Charles I actually boycott soap for being 'popish'? Was this purely an issue in England or did hardline Calvinists in Scotland act similarly?
- In the Hornblower adaptation 'The Frogs and the Lobsters', the naval officer Hornblower is largely antagonistic towards the aristocratic army officers and is jokingly accused of Republican sympathies. Did the Navy's relative egalitarianism lead to any real affection for republicanism?
- For all intents and purposes, William of Orange conquered England in 1689 by sailing from the Netherlands with an army. When, how, and why did this become euphemised as the 'Glorious Revolution' by English and British historians?
- Queen Victoria is supposed to never have actually uttered the phrase, 'we are not amused', but it has become indelibly associated with her in popular culture. When and how did Victoria come to be associated with this turn of phrase?
- In the closing stages of the Boshin War, the Imperial army that landed on Hokkaido had to deal with two modern forts that had been built in the 1860s: a high-walled coastal for (the Benten Daiba) and a Vauban-style star fort (the Goryokaku). Why and how were they built?
- According to Wikipedia, the Garibaldi biscuit was 'first manufactured by the Bermondsey biscuit company Peek Freans in 1861 following the recruitment of Jonathan Carr, one of the great biscuit makers of Carlisle.' Why was Carr's recruitment important? Why was a London company after a Carlisle baker?
- The chi-rho Christogram (☧) appeared regularly in Late Roman imagery, but why? How did this symbol become so popular, and when and why did it die out?
- What is up with this letter Elvis Presley wrote to Richard Nixon about wanting to become a federal agent? Why did he write it? Was he serious? Did anyone try to stop him? How did Nixon or his staff respond, if at all?
- The Clint Eastwood film 'Unforgiven' prominently features 'English Bob', a British gunslinger who, according to dialogue, 'works for the railroad shooting Chinamen'. How much of this is, if not accurate, at least authentic – the European immigrant gunslinger, the railroad hiring hitmen, and the specifically racist targeting?
- Who was the Syagrius that was made prefect of Provence in 568? Was there any relation to the Syagrius based at Soissons who was defeated by the Franks under Clovis in 486?
- In 'A Fistful of Dollars' and 'For a Few Dollars More', set in the 1870s/80s, the characters tend to move pretty easily between the US and Mexico. How permeable was the US-Mexico border at this time?
- What happened to the Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim in 1021? Why and how did he just 'disappear'?
- I was reading a recent answer on the sub by sunagainstgold and came across the tidbit that the Caliph Al-Hakim
- > "vanished" (as it were) in 1021
- How does a Caliph, the (nominal) leader of the Muslim world, simply vanish? Was this a voluntary decision, or was he 'disappeared', and by whom for what reason, if we know?
- Was there a significant opposition on religious grounds to the British invasion of Ethiopia/Abyssinia in 1868, given that the Ethiopians were also Christian?
- Why were scythed chariots developed, and why were they retained despite what seem to be quite high-profile failures at Kounaxa in 401 BCE and Gaugamela in 331?
- Apparently there are only two explicitly recorded instances of scythed chariots being used successfully, once during the Spartan campaigns in Anatolia in the 390s and once during the First Mithridatic War between Pontus and Rome. Do we have much evidence at all for how and why these were employed? Is their apparently poor record a result largely of selection bias on the part of Greek (and latterly Roman) sources?
- How did the Emu War become the memetic event in Australian history that it has?
- Was it recognised as an embarrassment at the time? Was its infamy resurrected by popular press books? Or was it the Internet that spawned the Emu War meme?
- I'm a cold-blooded old fart who wants the kids off my lawn. But what am I doing with this lawn, anyway? What were typical home leisure activities for the elderly in, say, late 19th/early 20th century America?
- The bishop in modern chess evolved from the elephant in Indian chaturanga, while in Chinese xiangqi, the piece that moves like the chaturanga elephant is called an elephant for one side but a minister for the other. How did elephants become ministers and bishops on opposite sides of Eurasia?
- In the TV episode 'Sharpe's Siege', French Brigadier Calvet, who survived the Russian campaign, speaks disparagingly of Major Ducos, who was in Spain in 1812. Was there actually an internal enmity in the French army from those who had fought in Russia, directed at those who hadn't?
- Bearing in mind the 2000 cutoff date, how have Chick Tracts been received in the US? Have they always been viewed as insane, fringe items, or were they successful in appealing to whatever audience they were intended for (indeed, what was that audience)?
- How were the territories controlled by military orders like the Teutonic and Livonian Orders or the Knights of St. John administered?
- How did the trope in late 20th century British comedy of the promiscuous milkman come about? How much truth was there behind the stereotype?
- After the adoption of Christianity in the Roman Empire, did deified emperors like Augustus and Vespasian continue to be referred to as 'Divus', or if not did they still retain some special elevation compared to other deceased emperors?
- How was gunpowder used in Japan prior to the introduction of arquebuses by the Portuguese?
- Apparently, British cavalry officer Louis Edward Nolan, who was killed in the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava in 1854, was not struck off the Austrian Army payroll until 1899. Was he actually getting paid, if so who got the money, and why did it take so long to stop?
- How were Chinggis (Genghis) Khan and the Mongol Empire more generally depicted during Soviet rule in Mongolia?
- The Taiwanese and Japanese governments seem to have generally had quite warm relations, but how has the general public in Taiwan viewed its colonial past? Is there a noticeable difference in alignment with party or linguistic distinctions?
- What were relations like between the Golden Horde and the Teutonic Order?
- Why has Xenophon's reputation among classicists been so terrible?
- He tried so very, very hard, and evidently pretty much everything he wrote has survived, to the point that for a time the Old Oligarch was assumed to be him even though he wasn't old enough to have written it when it was. Yet it seems like there's some competition between classicists to just dump on Xenophon in increasingly verbose fashion. Why can't they just leave Xenophon alone?
- How far were elephants actually effective in ancient battles as opposed to just an expensive gimmick with a tendency to backfire?
- Romania was almost completely overrun within months of entering the First World War. Why did the Romanian government join the war in the first place?
- Looking at footage of the Japanese surrender at the end of WW2, the civilian representatives are all dressed in top hats. When and why did Japanese civil officials begin to wear them, why were they still wearing them in 1945, and when did they stop?
- I have often heard the Church of the East colloquially called the 'Nestorian Church', but also that its doctrines were never Nestorian at all. So, what was Nestorianism anyway, and more importantly how did the Church of the East come to be so associated with it?
- What was the reaction of East Germans outside Berlin to the fall of the Berlin Wall?
- What were Mary Whitehouse and the Nationwide Festival of Light actually aiming to achieve, if anything? Were they at all successful in doing so?
- Many of Charlemagne's capitularies say that when mobilised for war, lords had to bring with them six months' clothing for themselves and their retinues. How much clothing would this have been? How long did clothes last more generally?
- How did Queen gain such a substantial Japanese following that within two years of their first album in 1973, they were able to release a single, 'Teo Toriatte', which was sung partly in Japanese and made it into the top 50 on the charts in Japan?
- Gilbert and Sullivan operettas see a whole lot of people engaged to their wards (that is, people they are the legal guardians of). Was this a common practice in Victorian Britain, or would a typical operagoer of the time have found it weird as well?
- Examples include Ko-Ko being engaged to his ward Yum-Yum at the start of The Mikado and the Lord Chancellor almost marrying his ward Phyllis in Iolanthe. In neither case does there seem to be any objection to their getting married other than that the man is not the romantic lead. An inversion happens in The Pirates of Penzance with Frederic nearly getting engaged to his nurse Ruth, yet the age difference between them is here accepted as comical, and in any case Ruth would not have had guardian status.
- How would spectators at the Panhellenic Games know who was competing? Would there be lists of names put up? Would there be announcers of some sort?
- Did the creation of Rajneeshpuram and, later on, the discovery of the salmonella poisonings by the Rajneeshi, significantly affect mainstream American opinion of Indian religion?
- In Mozart's 'The Magic Flute', the opera ends with the leads being inducted into a cult of Isis and Osiris. How the hell did it manage to get so popular in Catholic Vienna in 1791? Was the libretto just not seen as that important? Did they just not care that much about the pagan cultism? What gives?
- Tacitus' Annals claims that Roman legionaries were more effective than the Germans in forests because it was easier for them to use their weapons in confined spaces. Is this a conclusion corroborated by anyone else?
- There are apparently a number of seemingly absurd tactical formations described in ancient Indian texts. Was there a particular style of warfare that resulted in their existence, or were these largely the products of myth?
- These formations, or vyuha include some especially weird examples like the rotating labyrinthine Padmavyuha. From my rather presentist perspective it seems that these would be incredibly difficult to maintain owing to both their geometrical complexity and (in some cases) moving parts, but presumably there was some reason for their being mentioned.
- Did Britain consider using Indian troops in Europe during the Napoleonic Wars or the Crimea? If they did, why wasn't it done?
- Stalin once quipped that Anastas Mikoyan 'loved ice cream more than Communism.' Did the quality and/or availability of ice cream in the Soviet Union see a marked improvement under Mikoyan's auspices?
- It is an oft-repeated piece of trivia that the first German casualty of WW2 was killed by the Japanese in 1937. Do we know anything else about him, such as if he was affiliated with von Seeckt's military mission? If he was, why would he have been in the line of fire? How did Japan react (if at all)?
- What did other artists think of Bob Ross and Bill Alexander when they were active?
- What led to the Covenanters siding with Charles II, having been Parliamentary allies during the First English Civil War?
- What were soldiers doing at night during multi-day battles in the Napoleonic Wars?

FFIE stock is rallying with meme stocks today

- Faraday Future (FFIE) stock is up on Tuesday in what could be a major short squeeze for the shares.
- This would make sense considering short interest in the stock is sitting at about 95%.
- That also comes alongside a meme stock rally this week.
5 A.I. Stocks to Buy Before They Skyrocket Source: T. Schneider /
Shutterstock.com Faraday Future (NASDAQ:
FFIE) stock is rising higher on Tuesday as investors wonder whether a massive short squeeze is coming for the electric vehicle (EV) company’s shares.
Investors will note that FFIE’s short interest is
sitting at 36.34 million shares. That represents 95.33% of the company’s float. This makes it a prime target for a short squeeze.
One reason the rise could be happening is the recent meme stock rally. This has several shares that were short squeezed in 2021 taking off recently. This is thanks to the return of Roaring Kitty, who started the prior meme rally in 2021. FFIE may be a new target that could get caught up in all of the

2024.06.11 04:15 ApeMama PLEASE WATCH THE MOVIE! **Lucky Number Slevin**
I’m about to burst with some of the stuff in this movie. It’s the one with Bruce Willis in the train station with all the blue chairs. You won’t believe the foil! I don’t even believe it and I’ve watched it twice. Stuff that can’t possibly relate to what’s going on but does! When you watch it, I promise you that the lightbulbs are going to light up your mind.
You can watch it for free right now on Tubi and a couple other places. Look on IMDb for other sources. It explains the Kansas City Shuffle and SO much more! I’m excited about the foil, but the real value in watching this movie, IMO, is understanding the Shuffle. So many people are misunderstanding what the KCS actually is. I sure did! Unless you’ve seen it, it’s probably not at all what you think. And the tin.. omg it’s so great. But I am 100% POSITIVE that I’ve only recognized a small portion of it. I need wayyy more brains than I have on my own.
Ugh. Ok, that’s it. I’m posting a couple pieces of tin. I’ll try to keep in generic so it doesn’t completely spoil things, and I’ll
try to make use of the Spoilers thingy, but if you haven’t seen the movie yet, DON’T LOOK! You’ll be sad to miss the romp. It’s an amazing flick. Just scroll down to “end spoilers” and watch the movie.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD .
.
.
.
.
Smith (Willis) wears a
wrist brace in the posted meme scene. RK wore one on Friday’s stream. Knowing what happens right after the clip ends makes that a million times more relevant.
It all starts with a
horse.
The main character, Slevin, stays in apartment
47.
In the first twenty or so minutes of the movie, Slevin is wearing nothing but a
towel.
Chess, and certain tactics, plays a big role in the movie.
Watches and time play another significant part. (tick tock)
DEFINITE SPOILERS AHEAD (DON’T READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED)
In the scene from RK’s post, when the man turns to look at “this is the KCS”… Smith, aka GoodKat (Willis) silently gets out of the wheelchair and breaks the man’s neck. “You can’t have a Kansas City Shuffle without a body.” (Remembered quote; may not be exact.) Slevin is the name of the horse. Slevin’s last name (Kelevra) is roughly “Bad Dog” in Hebrew. 🐶 At the end of the movie, Slevin is wearing a black hoodie as he sits in the same train station where GoodKat is introduced at the beginning. There is indeed a reckoning, and the best part is.. Love fucking wins. There are a few take-aways from the story that I think anyone will recognize, but are worth pointing out. First two aren’t spoilers, but the
last four might ruin your experience of the movie if you haven’t seen it yet.
- The KCS is a very long game and the catalyst (inciting incident) is something big. Ours did not happen in this decade. Maybe not even this century.
- Everything in the KCS happens for a reason and is a necessary and integral part of the Shuffle.
- (I think) Lindsey… is us. - Not all the players are what they seem. Some who seem to be good are bad and vice versa. - Not everyone who acts like a dorky idiot is remotely so. - This one may be most important of all: the Black Hats doing Black Hat things are absolutely necessary to the KCS. I have come to realize that trying to stop or hinder them from their BH behavior while the KCS is in play could have a detrimental impact on the Shuffle. END SPOILERS I’m not even going to tell you this last one. It’s the stickiest, stinkiest, blackest tar in the history of this whole play, I swear. But when you watch the movie (RIGHT NOW) pay attention to the parking lot near the end when the detective is sitting in his car talking on the phone. When I saw it on my second watch, my eyes almost popped outa my head. If it’s not proof of time traveling and or simulation, I don’t know what is.
That’s it for now. I’m going to try and watch it again tonight and see what more I can find. For now, I’ll leave you with this little tidbit that caught my eye when I was searching for screenshots from the movie. It’s just from the intro/credits, so no spoilers. To me, it looks like the spelling of another number (besides seven). But I don’t know nothin and I admit my brain is beginning to get a sheen with all the foil chomping. Just thought I’d include it for fun. It is tomorrow, after all.😉

2024.06.10 17:01 mcm8279 [Opinion] ScreenRant: "Burnham & Book's Discovery Happy Ending Is Something I've Wanted From Star Trek Forever" "It was already a perfect ending, but Discovery's coda did it one better. Discovery allowed Book and Michael to grow old and happy together."
"Burnham and Book's love story brings a refreshing change to the usual tragic fates of Star Trek characters. Star Trek: Discovery breaks tradition by allowing Burnham and Book to have a long, happy life together with their son. [...] Burnham and Booker took what Captain Sisko began on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and achieved the happy ending Ben was denied with his family."
John Orquiola
Link:
https://screenrant.com/star-trek-discovery-epilogue-burnham-book-love-story-happy-ending/ Quotes:
"Star Trek traditionally celebrates friendship and the makeshift family a starship Captain finds with his crew above all else. To wit, a Star Trek Captain actually achieving love and family after saving the galaxy - and wanting to keep it or not be robbed of it - is a rare sight. Audiences have been conditioned to accept this bittersweet scenario as de rigueur for Star Trek. After all, Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) dies alone in Star Trek Generations, Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) gives up his new wife and son to become a god in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and after Star Trek: Voyager ended, Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) didn't find love or start a family.
Even the marriage of Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) nearly broke before they reconciled in Star Trek: Picard season 3.
Star Trek: Discovery's series finale ending is unapologetically sentimental and romantic. Even better, Captain Burnham and Cleveland Booker's reunion brilliantly harkens back to their unusual first meeting. Book tells Michael that he planted his Kwejian world root on Sanctuary Four, the planet they brought Molly the trance worm to after they met at the start of Star Trek: Discovery season 3. When Michael confesses that she "never stopped" loving Book, she also added he was "annoying as hell back then". But Book and Michael both knew the truth - "You still love me". Star Trek: Discovery knows this truth as well, and Burnham and Book got to live in this sweet moment of understanding that they loved each other since the moment they met, and they are meant to be together.
Thanks to Star Trek: Discovery, a Black man and woman were the central relationship in a Star Trek series, and they did not have to tragically part. Rather, Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker endured a heartbreaking separation and the uncertainty of reconciliation, but they knew who their hearts truly belonged to, and they maturely acted on their feelings.
To Star Trek: Discovery's credit, Burnham and Book were always equals, despite Michael's Starfleet rank. Burnham and Book never compromised each other's agency, and their actions always showed respect and understanding for each other, even when they were in disagreement. Michael and Book's beach scene in Star Trek: Discovery's ending lets them move forward together as partners. It was already a perfect ending, but Discovery's coda did it one better.
Discovery allowed Book and Michael to grow old and happy together.
[...]
Michael and Booker were rewarded with happiness and a family life that Star Trek, unfortunately, traditionally denies too many of its beloved main characters.
The lesson Michael learned - the answer to her biggest Star Trek: Discovery question - was that the meaning of it all isn't in the mission, but in the loved ones she chooses to spend her time with. For Michael, that went from the USS Discovery's crew to her husband and son. For Captain Leto Burnham, it will be the opposite. He grew up in a loving and supportive family, and now he must forge a found family with his new starship crew.
Burnham and Booker took what Captain Sisko began on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and achieved the happy ending Ben was denied with his family. I've always wanted to see Star Trek show a love story in full and give one of its greatest Captains a reward after their starship voyages. I loved how Star Trek: Discovery's ending truly did right by Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker."

2024.06.10 13:49 Stonkgang_ $RXRX backed by $NVDA - Largest Supercomputer in Biotech - Larger SI than Meme stocks.
| With everybody and their nan screaming and shouting about $NVDA and the "AI revolution", it surprises me that a startup company they've invested in, actively working with and providing the latest hardware too, is literally never talked about by retail. Even with its ridiculous high short float, higher than every meme stock. I was going to post a load of picture illustrating this but WSB only lets me add 1. So here's a load of text for those of you who can read. 1. Backed by $NVDA as shown in their latest 13-f, they own 7,706,363 shares. 2. RXRX thanks to NVDA now owns the 35 th most powerful supercomputer in the world and 1 st in the biotech sector. NVDAs CEO Jensen Huang refers to RXRX as a “startup company we work with”, dismissing claims that it’s “just a random investment”. Segment can be found below. Watch the video below where he mentions them directly. (video below where he talks about them directly https://x.com/recursionpharma/status/1793748650574663941?s=46 https://preview.redd.it/myhy0a7x0q5d1.jpg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b9dd6b2e92c2bdb4513ecda190444c7c9a8f285e 3. It’s the most shorted name in the Gene editing sector and a higher short than almost all meme stocks. According to the latest data provided by Fintel. 4. A healthy balance sheet where assets exceed liabilities 3-1 (Assets 650m and liabilities 190m). 5. With 22% of the float short, 27% owned by insiders,10% owned by Cathie woods and another 15% by four private funds, there are very few shares left to play with. This does not take into account that “state street corp” & “geode capital management”, two funds heavily positioned prior to previous "unusual moves", feel free to dig into this yourself. 6. Now everything Cathie has touched has been a disaster par Tesla, leading a lot of people to automatically bid against her, aka short all the speculative names she buys. RXRX is heavily weighted in the ARKG fund and the size continues to increase. 7. Now that may seem insignificant but it's not, why? Because other funds have been accumulating at an aggressive rate too. There is a NET benefit for some large money to push this higher. 8. Meanwhile, it's being aggressively shorted both in shares and via puts. With Citadel and Citigroup extremely deep in. I suspect that a lot of cathie wood haters are in the same boat. 9. Amongst the investors with high portfolio allocations in RXRX a few stick out. You have of course $NVDA with RXRX as their second largest holding and 23% of their port allocated here. Kinnevik AB, a Swedish investment firm has full ported RXRX. DCVC has 50% of their holdings portfolio positioned and they’re known as “Deep Tech Venture Capital Firm”. https://www.dcvc.com/team/ Their team is more than qualified to spot these types of unique investment opportunities. Then you have Mic Capital Management, who, and I quote: takes a fundamental, bottom-up investment approach across all asset classes using rigorous analysis in the form of on-the-ground interaction with company management teams, focusing on numerous factors including their strategic objectives, corporate governance standards, and investment plans. These funds appear to have a strong success rate in picking out some winners. I’ve dug deeper into these 3 in particular, feel free to do the same. 10. People talk about how $NVDA is going to power the AI revolution, yet very few talk about who the winning adopters will be. Which kind of interests me as to why NVDA have invested in them. RXRX has essentially created a super computer to speed up the time and cost of new drug discovery. By using enormous data sets and partnering with some of the largest companies in the world, it's positioned to take advantage of everything AI has to offer. Notice the "Priority access to compute hardware and DXGCloud resources. 11. The main Gamma exposure sits and $9-$11 (A break and hold above $11 is where things would get a little more interesting). 12. And finally, the market environment. Last time names with high short floats were targeted they slowly got picked up one by one. The names which presented themselves with strong future potential and back by some other large money players put in prolonged moves. But that's not all, as the Central European bank and Canada have already cut their rates by 0.25 it's likely the USA will follow. What does that mean? Well, generally speaking small caps often take the lead once this transition takes place. 13. Whilst it's short float is extremely high, some large money thinks they're wrong which means we have the wind at our backs. Not just via the extreme fund positioning but by where they think it heads next. Now I am not the biggest fan of analysts nor do I follow their guidance, however it's awfully nice to know where the direction of that wind is heading. 14. So in summary, you have $NVDA leading the market and the extremely strong sentiment of the AI revolution. You have people like Elon Musk spending billions of dollars in a frantic attempt to build a super computer. Then you have RXRX in the middle of all of it, with one of the worlds largest super computers, heavily shorted and some activist funds heavily increasing their positions. For me, I can see how this name could garner a lot of FOMO from both retail and institutional investors. I like it, I like it a lot. Looking to add September calls, current position below. submitted by Stonkgang_ to wallstreetbets [link] [comments] |

2024.06.09 21:01 Bonjonsie The Jonsie Burrows: Help Wanted 2 Part 8.99
Is there such a thing as finding too much treasure? The Jonsie Burrows: Help Wanted 2:
Tables of contents Previous part:
8.9.
The new room could only be described as unfinished, you thought to yourself. You were passing under an arch of a building on your way through here and saw that hanging from it were supposed to be two drooping ropes with flags(or whatever
this is supposed to be), but instead, you saw a
purple digital polygonal imitation of it.
Other purple digital polygonal objects took the appearance of other real things in the area, but they lacked the what?-factor of the digital floating purple particles or what was going on with the ceiling of the room as it was a just purple grid. (Welcome to the AR world Jeremy. Glitchtrap's twisted wonderland.)
But this was all a distraction from the newly introduced threat in the form of Moon, as now you sought targets that prevent his deadly approach to your ride, all while you heard his chuckles.
In the next room, the situation was the same, except you saw different varieties of
purple digital things pouring into the area. (Nice! it's the Princess Quest 3 purple pattern from Vanny's room and the purple arching energy from the wrecking ball in Roxy Raceway! I didn't notice them on the first watchthrough of the game, so it's nice to see and know what that connection is. Though now that I'm thinking about it, it's so weird that Princess Quest 4 shows no connection to anything, unlike its prequel.
Is it because the FNAF6's Pizzeria is so digitally distorted by Glitchtrap in the network that it doesn't show the tell-tale signs of the AR world or is it because the Pizzeria's sub-network isn't as connected to the greater network. Hmm... Something to look into later.)
As you continued to move through the area you saw more and more purple things just crawling throughout as you kept alert for specific targets to stall Moon. (Where in the world is this place? There's no such location we visit in Ruin that has this much wrecking ball energy flowing through it.)
But as you gazed about, you immediately spotted a blue blast-shaped button ahead and above on an arch. It's just like what the "message" depicted! Quickly you pointed your hand cannon at it and shot a couple times until you hit it. You were definitely on the right track now.
Passing under it, you were getting close to the double doors that lead to the next area, though curiously you saw purple digital particles that unlike before, were dripping from the ceiling like the floor above you was flooded.
(Okay, the only place that had to drip purple particles like this was the Upper East Server. That in addition to the purple grid on the ceiling above us, tells me we're directly under it, or really near to it. That sorta makes sense, because Foxy Log Ride is in/next to Glamrock Salon which is right next to the Upper East Server. It's so cool to be able to piece that together!)
But surprisingly, after going through those double doors, you were right back on the track heading towards a familiar area you had been to the first time you did this. Did the alternate paths weave in and out of the standard path? That must be it, you thought as you got all of the targets and headed to the next area where the train robbery scene takes place.
Immediately, after the lights flickered back on from the transitional darkness but before you enter the train robbery. You spotted another Helpy cutout and quickly shot it before you passed it.
Passed the train robbery scene is where you expected the path to diverge to the glitched route as you had taken to calling them, and lo and behold, as soon as you had gone through the train and through the double door at the end of it, you found yourself in a new area.
You heard Captain Foxy's voice once again as you entered the new route. "We be not responsible for any maimings that might happen on this here path." If you haven't already had a trip through an alternate path before, you're sure you'll be questioning how you would be maimed during the ride.
Your ride strolled ahead and entered chambers where you now had to shoot the targets to closed doors and block the Moon, rather than to earn points. However, as you did this, you heard people's laughter replacing the general ambiance of the ride. (I wonder if there's something with this.)
In these chambers, you shot another blue blast-shape button that you saw above near the ceiling, while you defended yourself from Moon's relentless drive to get to you on the ride.
But you eventually persevered through it all and made it back to the normal track again where you collected yourself by shooting at targets without worrying about the threat of Moon. But too soon to you, you found another Helpy cutout, which you shot of course, and was once again heading towards the dangerous alternate path. (Oh, I forgot to mention that these specific Helpy cutouts can be found in the original Pirate Ride in Help Wanted. And in Monty Golf and Superstar Daycare in Ruin. I wonder if Vanny had moved them there after the Help Wanted 2?)
This time noted by Captain Foxt with a simple "Overboard!"
The alternate path this time had no laughing ambiance and had you getting up close and personal with a dancing Moon unless you shot all the targets to make him go away from the platforms near where your ride gets the closest to them by turning on the lights. (Hmm... could this be a point against 1983 Moon? Why would 83 Moon be affected by light still? Also, is the laughing important? A hint to something?)
Another blue blast-shaped button was found and shot while on this path of constant danger, but with skill, awareness, and luck, you managed to get through it all. (Yeah I know there are gravestones in this specific area, but I'm not sure if it's referencing the missing 5 plus Charlie gravestone or if it's just props.)
Now you were back on the normal track, and as went through the next two areas you knew that the ride was coming to an end as you came upon the familiar comforting scene of Foxy and Chica along with other animals surrounding a cake and celebrating as you heard Captain Foxy say, "And the real treasure was friendship along."
(Both the scene and Captain Foxy's exact words are a call back to the original Pirate Ride in the first Help Wanted)
But as you stared at the scene, you finally realized that the cake itself had a blue blast-shaped button on it and proceeded to shoot it. To think that you were looking at it and didn't even realize it the first time you came through here. But now it's all over and you can finally see your improved score and get back to the restaurant.
Yet, as the lights flickered off and you moved forward in the darkness, you noticed something was wrong. The western-theme ambiance that was always there on the normal path came to an abrupt halt and left only silence and the everpresent noise of shifting water in its departure.
Suddenly the three spotlights lit up the path ahead of you, revealing to you a treasure chest on a miniscule island under the third one. As your ride got close to it, you noticed a couple of broken wooden boards on the side of the island, next to a crumple Pirate Foxy Flag.
As your ride came to a stop right next to the
wooden box, it unexpectedly opened. (
waaaaaaaait a minute! ITS THE CORN MAZE BOX!!! It's redesigned, but it's definitely it! Coincidently or is it Intentional? It has to be, they could have used an actual treasure chest for this,
so it has to be intentional. Why? Memory Dolls... memories...
William's Mask! It's the key to Glitchtrap!)
Gently, softly, the box's lid came open and a green costumed hand came out from the darkness within. The hand smoothly snaked out of the box until it was outstretched to you, revealing to you the treasure that it held in its palm. It was a doll, an unusual one at that, as it looked to be made by crocheting some wool into a human figure plushie. But stranger than that was the fact that it was wearing a Foxy mask.
You didn't know why, but you reached out to the hand, and hesitantly, grabbed the doll and watched as it poofed into purple smoke. The hand, with no doll in its grasp, sleeked backed into the box as the lid closed itself and your surroundings plunged into darkness.
Next thing you knew, the sound of celebrating cries filled your ears as you were back into the GAME WON! void. Stunned by the sudden change in your surroundings, you automatically hit the button for the crane machine to receive your prize with no thought. Your prize this time was a poster for Ballora titled DANCE!
Yet even though it was something new and interesting, your mind refused to be distracted from the bizarre event that just happened seconds ago. But no matter how much you tried to wrap your head around it, no matter how many times you tried to make sense of it, all you could blankly think is, what?
You felt strange, but you knew you had to keep moving forward. So you pressed the RETURN TO HUB button and returned to darkness to go back to the restaurant. Still, the sight of the Foxy doll never once left your mind.
Remember Jeremy? (the achievement for collecting the memory doll)
The achievement has twisted this Help Wanted phrase into a question. And finally, an answer was given to another. Everything is starting to make sense, but joy am I finding too much stuff! I reached my limit a couple Parts ago and now I'm beyond that!
But thankfully.
Thankfully! we reached the end of Foxy Log Ride and now I can talk about Vanny, Vanessa, Jeremy, the Memory dolls, and even Glitchtrap now, because why not. What other discoveries while mentally exhausted from this stuff!
Don't worry, I know not to burn myself and take breaks. But still, I eventually have to come back to finish this, and that in itself creates mental fatigue. So let's finish this by starting with the long overdue conclusion of Double-V!
The last time we talked about this, I ended it by saying we'll go through the contradictions of Vanny's and Vanessa's character hinted in Ruin and Help Wanted 2. However, I want to go back a bit to when we were first introduced to Vanny as a character in Help Wanted the Curse of Dreabear.
It's only a few lines of dialogue, so it won't be long. Besides, Vanny apparently being a different person than Vanessa, means we can't exactly apply one's characteristics to the other. With Vanny only having so few lines and cameos in Security Breach, she is basically, completely unknown to us.
So what dialogue we know comes from her, needs to be under even heavy scrutiny for any hints of the personality and characteristics of our new villain.
Before we even start with her dialogue, something interesting has already happened in the preceding events. By finding and resembling the secret tapes and doing exactly what Tape Girl says in the final tape we attain the glitchy Glitchtrap plushie
"There is a way to kill it.
It wants to escape. To escape through someone. Someone plugged into this game. That's you now.
You have to let it begin the process of leaving through you, then use the disconnect switch that I've embedded by the main stage. Let it approach you. Let it begin to merge with you. Play the music and flip the switch.
That will cause a hard restart of the game and flush the memory, effectively killing it, I hope. I don't know when it will come for you." -Tape 16
Now, we already know that this does not work at all in the slightest, as this method instead has Glitchtrap trapping and locking you up as he is let out of the game through the player's body that he now has control of. Digital Consciousness Transfer.
Next with the installment of the DLC, we acquire William Afton's old mask from the Corn Maze minigame after finding all four keys and the secret glitchy fifth key and head to the cellar where we discover the mask on a table on a candle.
With both of the items together worn and held respectively, we can hear the secret dialogue and the voice of Vanny for the very first time.
“Yes, I hear you. I know... No. There's no miscommunication... I understand... Yes, I have it. I made it myself. I think you would like it... No, no one suspects anything... Don't worry, I'll be ready, and I won't let you down. It will be fun.” This means that the event that Vanny met Glitchtrap was, in fact, the ending of Help Wanted where you follow through on Tape Girl's deceptive instructions on digital transferring with Glitchtrap!
But right here, is where a slight problem occurs in the narrative of Vanny's story in the games.
Vanny still has control of her body, she's still capable of defying Glitchtrap. Something that's been made clear to me through both Ruin and Help Wanted 2, is that Glitchtrap doesn't control Vanny at all.
Does he influence her? Yes. We see that in the way her costume is directly referencing him and the way she moves and dances.
Does he control her, however, that is where things get shaky. Because at this point in time, there hasn't been
a single instance where Vanny is seen as someone being controlled.
Remember, we can't use anything that has to do with Vanessa to show that Vanny is being manipulated or controlled. So where in the new era games can you find Glitchtrap controlling Vanny?
You can't. Does this mean she's doing this out of her own will? That is something that might've been more nuanced than what we all had perceived. Because I did it again, I've found more stuff! This time,
it's something important that everyone has missed in Help Wanted and
it might well be the true origins of Vanny. You see the base game of Help Wanted actually has a third ending to it. Or at least something that should be an ending. Besides, just completing all the minigames to get stuffed inside Freddy and following Tape Girl's 16th tape instruction, there's something else you can do that involves Glitchtrap.
That is let Glitchtrap
complete the process of leaving through you. I'm sure some of you are confused by what I'm talking about, but it's the sequence where you press the button and flip the switch, leading to the ending where Glitchtrap locks you up. I'm saying instead of doing that, do nothing and watch what happens next.
A blaring noise could be heard asGlitchtrap stretched his hand out to you. He spoke distortedly and unintelligible, while green cones of energy flowed out from him and toward you. In seconds, Glitchtrap's eyes turned
red, the blaring noise increased its volume, and the energy cones became purple while your view became clouded in a purple haze. Soon purple spots began to appear on Glitchtrap's body, as the noise became too loud to your ears, and the energy cones became red as your vision was almost nothing but purple. Soon even Glitchtrap started to disappear into the purple as his body became pixelated by the purple, leaving only his general outline until even that became purple.
Finally, after your purple vision grew flickering bright and the blaring noise ceased, your vision slowly returned to you, accompanied by music and the sound of static from a monitor. (That's the same music that plays if you press the button on the side of the monitor and the static sound you're hearing is
specifically from FNAF's 2 game over static.)
At first, your purple view distorted itself with pixels before the purple started to fade slightly as you could see the hub world. But your perspective was wrong, you were staring from the opposite side of where you were sitting, while the place you once stood at was empty.
Your vision, still overlayed with purple while distorted and pixelated, looked down as you brought your hands up. Your hands which were always outlined and seethrough, now looked solid and were covered by gloves of a familiar costume that you were just staring at a couple seconds ago.
As the purple started to overwhelm your distorted and pixelated vision again as you stared at your— Glitchtrap's hands, your mind was finally able to recognize the words that were being spoken to you by him.
"
Can you hear me?" If you want to see this for yourself, then I have two Youtubers that I managed to find, that did this.
99TH VR and
8-bitRyan.
After this, you're taken to the GAME OVER void. But what's unique about this void is that the monitor here
never displays any quotes, no matter how many times you do this.
This ending that should've been, along with what "Tape Girl" said before finally reveal
what exactly Vanny is. "—Let it approach you.
Let it begin to merge with you. —." -Tape 16
A merger, a fusion of two different beings, that's what Vanny is! This is why I was having so much trouble trying to figure out how Vanny came to be from the two "endings" we get from Help Wanted. The answer is neither of the two. She came from the failed Tape Girl instructions scenario where Glitchtrap completes his merger with someone to get out of the game.
It also explains why we see gigantic Vanny in Help Wanted 2's consequences ending and adds even more reason why an altered EnemyBasic appears on her wall in the AR world! Vanny herself is not infected as we first believed, but rather a fused entity between Glitchtrap and someone else.
With this origin, she would still be able to traverse and interact with things connected to the network if she's plunged into it.
And considering what she's wearing in Security Breach and that the Security Mask and the occipital transponder are a technology that exists now in the current FNAF lore. She has every way she needs to stay connected to the Pizzaplex's network. But let's get back to her dialogue and dissect it.
"Yes, I hear you. I know... No. There's no miscommunication... I understand...
Yes, I have it. I made it myself. I think you would like it... No, no one suspects anything... Don't worry,
I'll be ready, and I won't let you down. It will be fun.” We can immediately pinpoint a characteristic of Vanny with the entirety of this dialogue,
willing and
eager to please. I would also put young in that description, but I don't if it's because she's actually young here or that the voice actress has a bit of a youth tone to their voice.
Anyway, the "Yes, I have it. I made it myself. I think you would like it" part of her dialogue was already analyzed by me before, but let me elaborate on something I've been thinking about.
William's Mask has to be in the current Fazbear Entertainment's possession because the pizzaplex hasn't been built yet or is in the middle of being constructed by the time of Help Wanted's development or release since Cassie herself refers to it as an "old headset game", so the Security Mask isn't around just yet.
What I'm thinking here is that Vanny had come across it sometime to use as a reference for her costume. And make no mistake, Vanny's mask is making a callback to it as it's only a slight redesign and recolor to make it her own. Even Cassie makes notes of Vanny's mask being similar to the Security Mask by how she mistakes them for being the same.
But that doesn't sound right. Vanny wasn't working with Fazbear Entertainment when she met Glitchtrap, just under them through the second development team. Plus, most of the game was developed under a different team until it was in its beta version while Vanny's team had just come in to finish it to release it.
We have already seen what an object created solely by Glitchtrap looks like in Help Wanted in the form of his plushies, so we already know that he didn't recreate the mask in the game.
So maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way. Both the mask and Grimm Foxy show up in Princess Quest, and we have already established how both important relate to William and Glitchtrap. And both are what are needed to destroy Glitchtrap.
Where did we first see that Mask? Not in the Help Wanted base game but in the Halloween DLC. That means the game was still being worked on even after its release, so Vanny would've had time to model this mask into the game. But why? I think these game-over quotes that show up only in Dreadbear are a clue.
- Report glitches before they spread.
- Don't look behind you.
- It's only a dream.
- Where am I?
- Purging system...
The report glitches quote, easily fits with what Vanny is talking about in with the "No, no one suspects anything." The "Where am I" part is intriguing, but I don't think I can pin that to Vanny. Hmm... I wonder if this is where our Golden Princess comes to be. It's something to look into later.
It's the "Purging system" part that is what I want to focus on here. This provides the needed explanation for things being the way they are now. Glitchtrap, the one that's not merged into Vanny, might've started running rampant during the DLC development, causing either Fazbear Entertainment or Vanny's development team to focus entirely on shutting him down.
The purging of the system might've been their solution for him. This might've worked too if Vanny wasn't already created by the time of the purging. And since Vanny is working under Glitchtrap here, she would've been in the perfect position to take Glitchtrap and everything he contains out of Help Wanted and into a developing game called Princess Quest(Working Title). Though, Vanny might've rushed the job under such circumstances, taking part of The Curse of Dreadbear's code along with Glitchtraps into the new game.
But that's all for now, I'll talk about that more when we get Princess Quest 4.
"
I'll be ready, and I won't let you down. It will be fun.” This right here, more than anything, tells us that Vanny is not so much reluctant but more following in the Glitchtrap's order than we all first believed. But we shouldn't be so surprised about it.
Vanny's previous alias, "Reluctant Follwer", didn't come from any of the games, books, or even Scott's website but instead came from voices.com, a website Scott uses to find voice actors. The name is used as a guide for the actor and a descriptor for how the voice should be toned and acted.
The name is an oversimplification of a character for how they're going to sound in the
one game they appear in, not all. So the name "Reluctant Follwer" would've only applied to Vanny in this game.
And as we see from Security Breach, Vanny is anything but reluctant to follow Glitchtrap's order. Yet after that game and as of Ruin and HW2, that name might been more appropriate now than it was back then as there appears to be a rift now between the two. But more on that at a later.
One last thing. With this origin in place, we now have another explanation for why we only hear Vanny's side of the conversation and not Glitchtrap's. We are hearing Glitchtrap's side of that conversation,
he is her. It's the reason why her voice becomes echoey in her final word,
fun.
Now let's finally get into the ties between Vanessa and the villains. Though... Shoot! I made it too big again! Continue on here Part

2024.06.09 18:11 lambchopsuey "Cause and Defect: The Ikeda Clan" Book Club: The evidence on SGIWhistleblowers
In the Epilogue to her book, the author includes quotes from posts and comments here on SGIWhistleblowers! WOW! She prefaces this section with THIS statement:
What follows here are not my words, but those of former SGI members and leaders who have posted on the SGI Whistleblowers [sic] site. I found this information to be sometimes misleading but for the most part quite interesting. Since these excerpts were anonymously written, I am unable to give credit to any authos. Nor to totally agree or disagree with their criticism of Mr. Ikeda.
In this phrasing, I'm seeing "I don't want to believe what I'm reading; it makes me feel uncomfortable, but I can't confidently deny it, not any more." I'm sure many, if not
most, of us were
astonished and
shocked the first time we ran across disconfirming evidence. The incident I remember most strongly was when I first saw THIS report:
In the 1980's, the current SGI-USA General Director Emeritus George Williams claimed a membership of 500,000 and a World Tribune subscription base of 100,000. However, it is a certainty that today in 1994, there are 20,000 World Tribune subscriptions. This is a surprising decrease. Furthermore, Vice-General Director McCloskey tells the mass media that the SGI-USA has 350,000 believers, but recently, he admitted to a certain group of people that the actual number of members is close to 20,000, the same number as World Tribune subscriptions. Source
I couldn't
believe it! I didn't
dare believe it! It was a bridge too far at that point, so I just set it aside
for now, as I did with so much that I have heard and seen inside the Ikeda cult during my membership.
When I left SGI-USA, it was still claiming "350,000 members". In fact, it's
still claiming around that number - see here:
Archive copy of today's info on Soka Global Thumbnail from google search - referenced "Soka Global Media Room"
You can
BUY A COPY for your wall!!!
You get the
picture.
THIS is what SGI-USA
continues to claim even when their own internal statistics show less than HALF that number (
as of a few years ago), SGI-USA didn't change their claimed membership total OR their map.
Anyhow, I had
taken for granted SGI-USA's (
then NSA's)
CLAIMED membership of "350,000" as a
confirmation of SGI's
strength, vitality, AND positive prospects for taking over as the top world religion - however pipsqueak-y "350K" is against the 333.3
MILLION population of the USA - it's a paltry 1/10th of 1%. "350,000" sounds BIG! It sounds STRONG! Who
bothers to calculate how much that actually is
as a percentage of the US population, anyhow??
By the year 2000, Ikeda cult thought they'd have 10 million members in USA Even
then, if SOMEHOW the unappealing, off-putting, awkward, and
deeply weird Ikeda cult had managed to hit that goal, that's STILL only 3.5 SGI-USA members for every 100,000 people in the population! To put it another way, each SGI-USA member could expect to have to proselytize over 28,500 people just to find ONE who would agree to join. No
wonder "shakubuku" is so unpopular within the SGI!
And WHY should I expect or even
suspect that my religious organization would LIE to me??
It turns out that even this
wildly exaggerated membership number simply showed the Ikeda cult's impotence and failure - after some 75
years in the USA (
no, it did
not "begin" from nothing in 1960 with DIcky-boi swanning in to declare "I hereby name you 'Chapter'!!") -
this is the BEST it can do, and even
that has to be
made up! As
former national-level SGI-USA leader Brad Nixon said decades ago,
NSA is a flop in the U.S., Nixon says, with membership plummeting and 30 times as many former members as current adherents. "They're amateurish," according to Nixon. "Only people with a real dependency complex stay."
SGI-USA's situation has NOT improved. The evidence is
out there, but who, left to their own devices, could be expected to search it out and gather it on their own?? That's why we need a site like SGIWhistleblowers. It's
such a VALUABLE resource!

2024.06.09 14:53 History_Geek123 Et tu Brute? Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections
11:18 PM, December 24th, 1952, Mayflower Hotel
Did Phil not do enough? Was locking up the fat old man and that crazy Cuban not enough to please the Blackshirts? Did the stress finally reach him? How could I have known that this would be the future that I would create? I can’t hide anymore, I must confront the monster I unleashed. I need to find a radio station…
12:00 AM, December 25th, 1952, WTOP Studios
“Mr. Lindbergh, I’ll count you down from 10 seconds until we are live, then the light will turn red and you will be able to speak. Remember, you only have five minutes. Good luck sir.”
10,9,8… How did it come to this? 7,6,5… Where did it all go wrong? 4,3,2… Why has God made my cross so heavy? 1…
“Good evening America, I wish I could wish you all a Merry Christmas, however certain events that have transpired in the last two hours have cast a shadow over our holiday season. One of the events I am referring to is the tragic shooting of President La Follette, who I pray is able to recover. The other event is the Vice President’s ongoing attempt to seize power and freeze the system. I know that this must come as a shock to many, but I abhor the rising tide of violence we have seen in this nation. For too long have I hid away, afraid to confront the demons I unleashed. Now, I must attempt to put things right, both with God and my fellow man.
When I assumed the office of President fifteen years ago, I could not have imagined what the fascist movement would turn into. Once a vessel for the strengthening of American government and society, a noble patriotic endeavor, it has become corrupted by ego and evil. I have seen the science I worshiped, and the aircraft I loved, destroying the civilization I expected them to serve. In the same way, fascism is now being used to destroy the America it is meant to serve. Musmanno, Tolbert, and the rest of the Blackshirts do not represent the best of us, no, they represent the worst of us, the basest and lowest of human emotions. They have shown that we Americans are a primitive people, that we seem to have little respect for the law or the rights of others.
Never was fascism supposed to lead to the destruction of those elements of American society that make us what we are. Never was there supposed to be thuggery and intimidation. For fascism to truly come about, it must come as the will of the people. Did I obstruct the counting of the votes when I lost to ABH? Did I refuse to concede the election? Did I attempt to call on misguided cultists to march on the Capitol? No, I accepted that the people, albeit narrowly, rejected my mandate, and so I left with my honor intact. This was the same course I urged my dear friend Phil to take, a course which I know the Vice President was not in favor of.
God made life simple. It is man who complicates it. The Lord has shown us the way to live our lives in peace and brotherhood, yet we choose to disobey, and by our disobedience, death and destruction continues to come into the world. When I saw the horrors of nuclear war, the newfound capacity that modern man has found to destroy their brothers and the Earth, I finally broke down and dedicated my life to the Lord. I am proud to name the Reverend Billy Graham as one of my closest friends. However, other friends, older friends, have been killed or nearly killed due to the monsters I have unleashed. Will lies dead because of an assassination carried out in the name of the ideology I brought to the fore of America’s consciousness, and Phil, our President, remains in critical condition because, in the end, despite all else he may have done during the last eight years, he was going to do the right thing and concede the election. The ghosts of the past haunt my mind, regret makes my soul shake and shiver, just as America’s soul cries out in despair as the daggers of partisanship are plunged deep inside it. Yet I remember, ‘for Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.’
I have thought it strange that we talk least about the things we think about most. Such has been the case for me over the last eight years, however I cannot allow my most pervasive thoughts to go unspoken anymore. When the Blackshirts called for violence and let their inner beasts out at the ’48 Farmer-Labor convention, I hid away in my home, a coward. I could have said something then but chose not to. When the Blackshirts intimidated the opposition in the lead up to this now contested election, I once again chose to not confront the ugliness I helped create. This time I will stand up, and if I, in doing so, must rejoin the friends that I have lost amongst the ruins of my dreams, then let it be done. The Bible says, ‘Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.’ My sins are many, my virtues fewer, but when I meet the Maker, he will say to me ‘Well done, good and faithful servant,’ because in the end I finally stood up to evil. To all who hear me now, do not let our nation fall into the hands of thugs and madmen, do not let our nation’s spirit be torn asunder. ‘The Lord tests the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.’ Have we forgotten the lessons that the Communist Revolution taught us? That violence is not the answer to political dissatisfaction. I implore the American people to not let this nation get ripped apart yet again because of the destructive words and actions of a wild few. I close with this quote from the late William Jennings Bryan: ‘These revolutionaries live and die by the creed of “might makes right,” but I present to you another creed, a creed that I hope you all will remember and retell to everyone you meet as we stand against these revolutionaries; Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.’”

2024.06.09 12:30 _wxxy__ Just a rant about some of the dsmp fans
I have tumblr and I post things on it, but this is what I noticed recently which is pissing me off.
A lot of dsmp fans are huge dteam haters, they say it's "morally correct" to hate on them and other stuff like that, which bothers me and it's wrong. It's obvious that the Dream accusations are false, and most dsmp fans SHOULD know about this.
It's like they are completely uneducated on the topic! The amount of times I had to comment about proof and the "The Truth" video is insane.....
Then there's the thing with William Gold coming back and people should be glad that he (probably) became a better person and that he won't do it again, and then some fans are still saying stuff like "it's June why tf did he come back now it's homoph0bic" and still sending him death threats. I get why they would send him death threats but I thought most of us moved on and what the hell was with the other thing?? Is he even homoph0bic??
Some of the dsmp fans are pissing me off nearly as much as the fucking antis are.... :(
(i know nobody asked but i'm ranting about this since it's annoying tf out of me.)

2024.06.09 11:46 HazelnutEnjoyer123 Woodrow Wilson is overhated.
| Disclaimer: I originally posted this on unpopularopinion and it immediately got removed. Welp. https://preview.redd.it/du1n865uoi5d1.png?width=805&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e3dc41c15b44784a09c6d8fdf712d2a6e97c582 Anyway. Woodrow Wilson is very overhated OK, first of all, the three main criticisms of Wilson seem to be these three: - His foreign policy, with him being called an imperialist and a large reason why Germany destabilized, etc.
- Him 'supporting' the Klan and being the primary reason for their rebound
- Him being overly racist and the policies that were the result of that
- His Authoritarianism
I will go through all three of these and then talk about the more admirable work that Wilson has done and the stroke he had. - The Imperialist Foreign Policy
The most accurate criticism on this front is Haiti. A peacekeeping operation in a destabilized country led to a 20-year occupation that ended with FDR. But other than that, his foreign policy was some of the least imperialist in 40 years. Hawaii, the Spanish-American War that ended with the US getting ownership of the Caribbean and the Philippines, the massive rebellion and the death of hundreds of thousands as a result of that, the Panama Canal, etc. were all under Wilson's predecessors. Additionally, Wilson negotiated payment to the Colombians for the loss of Panama and signed the Philippine Autonomy Act of 1916 which gave the Philippines autonomy and laid the groundwork for independence. Theodore Roosevelt, McKinley, and Taft are the main persons responsible for the imperialism that characterized the 'American Empire'; blaming such on Wilson would be wrong. The 14 Points and the League of Nations, on the other hand, are some of the most important milestones in the road of self-determination of peoples and the dismantling of empires. They were crucial in establishing independent states in Eastern Europe, such as Poland, and laid the groundwork for the United Nations 25 years later. One of the criticisms of the 14 points is that it didn't do anything in regard of the colonial empires of France and the UK, though I don't think this is a valid criticism considering both were extremely powerful still and the US, despite rising extremely rapidly, was still the junior partner to the British Empire. The League of Nations was a failure, it didn't have much of a system of checks and balances to ensure that all members were on an even playing field and it rightly deserved criticism for that, but the United States not being in it to create a counterbalance isn't Wilson's fault. He argued greatly for US membership and the main reason it died was Republican and isolationist opposition in the Senate. Sumner Welles, one of FDR's most important foreign policy advisors, once wrote "Wilson’s vision of world order had excited his own generation 'to the depths of our intellectual and emotional being.'" - The Klan and Segregation
The Klan was rising fast during Wilson's Presidency, though the quote about the Birth of the Nation "writing history with lightning" is almost certainly untrue. And even though the movie also tried to present a portion of Wilson's writings as supporting them, this was also not true. The section where that quote came from criticized the Klan's means of violence, though it is important to also point out that he agreed with the goals of extinguishing Reconstruction Era reforms. Plus, the movie was the most technically advanced film of the time and basically, everyone was seeing it, and its extremely damaging message. His private screening wasn't out of the ordinary. He was still a white supremacist, which was unfortunately a trait shared by William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt. Taft criticized Asian immigration in his inaugural address and Roosevelt was a eugenicist, along with Bob LaFollette. And although segregation of the civil service was implemented under him, it was kept under Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, and FDR. He also vetoed the Immigration Act of 1917 which was aimed at banning immigration from many parts of Asia and implemented literacy requirements for all immigrants over the age of 16 regardless of where they came from. Does that mean Wilson is innocent of his crimes? Absolutely not. He was still a virulent racist that segregated the civil service, and his postmaster general fired all black employees from the Post service. But he didn't campaign daily for the return of the Klan either. - Authoritarianism
The most accurate and important criticism of Wilson, in my opinion. The war measures implemented under his watch and the Espionage and Sedition Acts were certainly authoritarian and claiming otherwise here would be just lying. - Wilson's more positive side
A lot of Wilson's domestic policies are the bedrock of the New Deal and the Great Society. The Revenue Act of 1913 slashed tariffs that were hurting the average American's pocketbooks and established the first income tax in American history. The Federal Reserve was a bulwark against the large Private Banks and the gold standard, which generally favored lenders instead of borrowers. It also generally negated the effect of the bank runs that were happening every ten years that crashed the economy, though the Great Depression taught us that greater regulation was needed. The Adamson Act of 1916 set an eight-hour workday for railroad workers. The Keating-Owen Act was designed to make child labor unprofitable, Wilson lobbied hard for it's passage, and it was in effect until the SCOTUS deemed it unconstitutional. The Clayton Anti-Trust Act strengthened anti-trust legislation and fought against monopolies. The FTC was made to carry out these anti-trust laws. The Federal Aid Road Act of 1916 was the first bill to fund highway and infrastructure construction in the United States. The Jones-Shafroth Act of 1917 gave US citizenship to Puerto Ricans and established a bill of rights. In January 1918, he endorsed women's suffrage and pressured Southern Democrats to vote in favor of the 19th Amendment in the Senate. - The Stroke
The last two years of Wilson's Presidency were really chaotic, and Wilson didn't respond well to them because he was incapacitated. He had a stroke in 1919 and so couldn't lead the country personally as race riots, demobilization, and a red scare swept through the country. The race riots and lynchings prior to that and the inaction towards them are his faults, as he didn't act when a race riot happened in St. Louis in 1917. Although he did denounce lynchings in the South, no anti-lynching legislation was passed. Though I doubt he could've pushed for that anyway considering an anti-lynching bill was in Congress during the Harding Presidency and it died in the Senate anyway even though the GOP had large majorities in both chambers. - Conclusion
Was Wilson a great president? No. But putting him next to Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan is unfair and his legacy can be evaluated with more nuance than "He was the WW1 President, easy top tier" and "He was the worst President in American History."
