People have a too narrow and rigid view of what Christianity is. Change my mind.

2024.05.22 04:54 ProfessorFeathervain People have a too narrow and rigid view of what Christianity is. Change my mind.

When people say they are Christian, most mean they follow the "Institution of Christianity" as it developed in the hundreds of years after Jesus' death.
Jesus had never met Paul.
Jesus didn't even claim to be God.
And when Paul wrote his letters, he didn't think they were going to be canonized into a thing called a "New Testament" and that Christians would hold dogmatically to his every word, including letters he wrote off-handedly, full of grammatical and syntactical errors, to various congregations around the world.
The decision of which books were included and which was controversial and arbitrary. Many of the Church Fathers considered The Shepherd of Hermas to be canonical and not Revelation. Yet Revelation is now considered the indisputable word of God, and The Shepherd of Hermas is virtually unknown.
Then you had, in the 4th and 5th century, a bunch of Bishops starting to invent doctrines that weren't directly in the Bible. (See: the councils of Chalcedon and Nicaea). Even the "Sola Scriptura" protestants adhere to these doctrines.
In other words, over the centuries there has been a grime of superstition that has accrued on the religion of Jesus and his apostles.
I would bet, personally, that the only sect they would be remotely fond of would be some Quakers, who are the only ones that are free from all the ridiculous ideas about justification by faith, the trinity, the immaculate conception, or a magical wafer.
Yet most people would think Quakers aren't remotely Christian, and only some devote Catholic or Protestant (depending on your prejudice), who take for granted creeds that came centuries after Jesus and that he had no idea about, could actually be considered true Christians.

2024.05.22 04:51 moonchance how often does a joke backfire at you?

im a funny guy and i tell a lot of jokes and funny make up stories but this one is kind of backfire at me...
at work im 40 and theres a 18 i work with. he needed to give a speech in class and it had to be about something interesting or something not a lot of people know.
i suggest the story of oatmeal. he asks for the story so i tell him back in the day a man named mr. oat had a business and a larger competitor opened a rival business and was trying to take his employees by paying them more to come work for them. mr. oat couldnt afford to pay more so he started feeding his staff a breakfast he invented. his invention mixed warm milk with oats to create a healthy filling inexpensive breakfast his employees loved. they stayed loyal to him and just said maybe mr. oat cant pay us as much but at least he feeds us. they called it "oats meal". it was so liked, that employees of the new rival company left to work for mr. oat instead. the competitor left and he thrived.
we now call it oatmeal and still eat and enjoy it to this day. the kid is amazed by the story and says its a great idea and he is gonna use it.
the next shift he is pissed at me saying the teacher called him out for making up a story and not taking the assignment seriously and now he failed the class and cant graduate and has to do his senior year over again next year.
he tells me im an asshole for telling him that story and all my co-workers agree with him. this is clearly a funny joke story and he will graduate next year and with how fast times go it will feel like this year.

2024.05.22 04:49 CautiousCancel8329 Help regarding PC I'm building for my mom

I'm building my mom, an architect a PC as she's moving into a new office. She's a private architect, and she owns her own company. She mainly does 2D renders of floor plans, and does not do any sort of 3d rendering. Her current config is an intel i7 10750H and a GTX 1650 mobile on her laptop, with 16gigs of ddr4 3600mhz ram and a 500gb ssd. Her budget is around 1000 usd, and has trusted me co.pletely to configure and build her pc. I've been an avid pc enthusiast since 14, and with over 2 measly years worth of experience, binge watching ltt videos and pc build guides, ripping open laptops and just going through the conpononents, and helping out with software issues and bugs for my family members, I feel building a pc would be the best step in gaining more knowledge. As of now, I've decided that a 13400f and RX7600 is a good option for her PC, which shed be using on a 55" 4k 60hz monitor. My mom wants the screen size to be big, and doesnt mind much about refresh rate as her renders are only the floorplans. She does want a lot of storage, so I've decided to set up a 2 bay NAS for her and her colleague that work locally, and 3 other employees that work remotely. I wanted to know if there is anything else I should change (monitor and nas are not part of the 1000 usd budget) and what I should be aware of. I'm going for a 2 fan front intake and 1+1 fan exhaust on the back and side along with a simple cpu air cooler. The place where I'm living has no motherboard options, so I'm going for a B760m in a deep cool ch370 matx case. Her files are around 200mb each (on autocad) so I thought that using just a 500gb ssd along with a 1tb HD should be plenty space for her to work on before uploading it to the nas for backup and remote access. I've gone through bottleneck calculators, and the 13400f has a 0.0% bottleneck with the rx 7600 on 4k 3840x2160 ultrawide... I'm finishing this off with a 550W psu as pcpartspicker only said that the estimated wattage is 457 or smt, but have the budget to upgrade to a 650W one if needed. Pls do reply as it would he me a ton, Thanks

2024.05.22 04:45 Fearless-Patient6278 Feeling lost with all this

I'm 22 years old; out of college for a year (with a Master in Arts in Philosophy); been working as a paralegal for four months; and pretend-studying for the LSAT for six.
I left college without any kind of real vision for my future or career. I eventually settled on applying to law school for Fall 2025 admission. For me, it seems like the most prudent career path for achieving professional growth, financial security/mobility, making more friends, and intellectual stimulation.
Anyway, I have my letters of recommendation. On my LSAT I got a 154; I'm taking it again in June and most likely August as well. How do you think im doing here? I'm personally stressed/depressed out of my mind from all this

2024.05.22 04:44 Electronic-Bad-836 Your meeting with Per - don't be fooled

Dear organizer
I reviewumeeting notes sharedon your meeting with Per. Thank you for taking the time to be open about what transpired.
As someone who worked in PR, DO NOT BE FOOLED! they may have some sort of cognitive dissonance that this meeting was beyond PR but its the seeds of a crisis for them and they can smell it so they are trying to get ahead of it. Obviously this boycott is not good PR for them so they are trying to manage it. Trust me, spent years in this field.
It's "nice" to exchange pleasantries around kids and shared interests but don't kid yourself. All they care about is the bottom line and it's going to be a lot of lobbying and fighting to get governments to do anything about it. Also, i would push back on his concern for employee wellbeing and safety. That just screams lawsuits and worse PR. If he cared about individuals they wouldn't be cutting hours. Maybe he should cut his pay before he cuts his employees hours

2024.05.22 04:42 Outside_Ad_1447 Berkshire Hathaway letters and Buffet Partnership Letters

Hi, I am a high schooler (senior, incoming college freshman) who has definitely gotten a lot from this sub more in my early days and still try to give back now as I go on to try and enter the investment industry out of college, I figured I would start with some good free stuff.
I recently talked with a hedge fund manager of a pretty large fund and I was fortunate to be shared his database of Berkshire Hathaway letters along with Buffet partnership letters. I decided that since I could only find Berkshire letters from 1977 onwards posted for free here (seen it sold online for pretty high prices), I would share what I had received from the preceding years:

2024.05.22 04:42 GeoGuy27 2 outta 13 ain’t so bad.

2 outta 13 ain’t so bad.
Filed 1/3/24, 13 Direct SC Claims, 2 Approved, 3 Deferred, rest denied.
First time filing a claim, it's been a couple years since I got out. Had no idea that as a Guardsman I could even apply for VA benefits, even though I had a deployment to the ME.
l used a local VA Rep in my state, and I actually thought I was just there to file an ITF. But a few days later I was checking my Gl Bill on the VA site and noticed that I had a bonafide claim in progress. Found out she signed me up for VA Health Care as well, which to be honest has been one of the single most best benefits from having served!
Received my decision letter today, and while it's certinaly not a home-run, I'll take what I can get! I've got a couple gripes about some of the decisions, but I'm really not sure the process to "fight" them, or if it's even worth the risk. I've heard that opens me up to a full review and can put my existing rating at risk.
I have no records whatsoever in my STR of any of the musculoskeletal issues, except for "Pes Planus" being written on my MEPS physical, but I made sure to write a Lay Statement for each one to explain that I was on flight duty, and was afraid to be pulled off if I went to medical. Not sure I can really fight any of those, or what steps I would even take to do so. I didn't even get an exam for any of them.
Sinusitis, l've never been treated for it, but my VSO said to make sure I claim both Sinusitis and Rhinitis incase the examiner said my Rhinitis was actually Sinusitis. My C&P was for both of them and migraines.
My migraines however are the one that really irks me. When I went to my exam the Dr was disinterested in anything I had to say, would not look at my migraine log, and only copied down what I wrote on the QTC Questionnaire. He told me that my diagnosis was not "current". Because I had not been seen by a provider for it for a couple years, and that I did not fill any prescriptions for my migraine meds either. I told him it was because my insurance did not cover it. (This was about 2 weeks before my first VHA appointment, and my PCP has since resolved this and gave me a 90 day supply for a whopping $36 which I am so incredibly grateful for!
It's so nice to take my meds when I feel a migraine comming on vs trying to tough it out with excedrine and see how bad it gets before I dig into my dwindling supply of rescue meds!!
Anyway, I'm not sure if I should go the supplemental route with this and include new records from my VA doc. Or if it's a better option to try the secondary route and connect to my SC Tinnitus?
Should I wait for the decision on the 3 deferred claims to come back before I attempt to dispute any of these?
And of course I know you can't offer any advice without the letter so l've attached it below!

2024.05.22 04:41 Bulky_Leek_9445 Digital Product Agency Need Advice Stressed AF

Hey guys,
I work for a small digital product agency as a BDR. I’ve been under three different managers the past year and a half executing strategies they implemented that simply have not worked. The strategies have basically been using ZI to spam email campaigns by industry seeing if they needed digital product help. Obviously it did not work. Maybe one meeting a month at best.
I have somehow been retained as an employee but it’s now on me to create and implement strategies that work in order to keep my job. And when I say work I mean book 3-5 meetings a week and ideally more completely through outbound
The strategy I’ve implemented is basically using ZI scoops and intent (aren’t great but better than nothing) to find companies who are looking for digital product help and target them with more personalized outreach using email, LI, and calling even though the calling has been more of a voicemail drop since no one in tech seems to answer their phone. I’m making like 80 calls a day and sending 30 emails as well as LI touches.
I seriously have no idea what else to do. If anyone in a similar space could offer some help or advice I’d be very grateful as I’d really like to not be unemployed again and would very much like to figure this out.

2024.05.22 04:39 Polilla_Negra SFPD officer who ran nonprofit on city time also has been licensed as a private Security Guard and owner-manager of his business since 2022, which was initially called Security Firm 7 Inc. and private Security firm in 2022 called Mirador Security Inc.

A San Francisco police officer who for years ran his nonprofit on department time also founded a Security firm without notifying the department, essentially holding three different roles: working as a cop, heading a nonprofit, and owning a small private security business.
Jason Johnson, who founded a nonprofit called Operation Genesis, which takes disadvantaged kids to Ghana every year, incorporated a private Security firm in 2022 called Mirador Security Inc. and failed to notify the department about the business. It is unclear whether the company has ever had any customers.
Department orders require that any officer seeking outside employment first ask for permission from their supervisors.
Every year, the department publishes a list of all the officers who have been given such permission and the businesses they work for.
Johnson’s name was not on its latest list, which detailed such activities in 2023. He was also not on the department’s 2022 list.
After this article was published, a spokesperson for the department replied to an inquiry from The Standard, saying, “we don't have any evidence to suggest Officer Johnson has done any work with his license.”
The SFPD said Johnson isn't required to notify the department unless he earns income from the business. The city's Department of Human Resources, however, has published guidelines that state city employees must receive approval before engaging in additional employment activities, which include, “business ownership, consulting, and working as an independent contractor.” A spokesperson for Human Resources confirmed under its intepretation, Johnson should have reported forming a business.
“Given the recent SF Safe scandal, I don’t believe the public has any faith in SFPD’s ability to investigate the propriety of its dealings with nonprofit organizations.”
Police Commissioner Max Carter-Oberstone
According to the state’s Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, Johnson has been licensed as a private Security Guard and owner-manager of his business since 2022, which was initially called Security Firm 7 Inc.
When The Standard called a number associated with Johnson and asked about Mirador Security, the man on the line said the firm is not active.
It is unclear how much time Johnson spends on the firm or what specific tasks he is responsible for.
The newest revelation about Johnson’s activities outside of his role in the police department is one more reason why an outside investigation needs to be conducted, said Police Commissioner Max Carter-Oberstone.
“All I can say is that there needs to be an independent investigation into what occurred here,” Carter-Oberstone said. “Given the recent SF Safe scandal, I don’t believe the public has any faith in SFPD’s ability to investigate the propriety of its dealings with nonprofit organizations.”
Johnson, who was investigated by the department for running his nonprofit when also getting paid by the department as a cop, did not respond to a request for comment about the security firm.
The Standard previously reported that Johnson’s roughly 40-hour work week for Operation Genesis was sanctioned for years by the department, which paid him his salary during that time.
The department said there was no conflict because Johnson was not paid by the nonprofit.
Much of Operation Genesis’ funding came from the City of San Francisco. When the nonprofit was initially created, it listed its headquarters address at the same location as the police department’s headquarters.
An Internal Affairs investigation into Johnson and the nonprofit launched last year alleged that he failed to investigate misconduct, had an unreported relationship and had no formal agreement with the department.
The investigation only concluded that the entity had no memorandum of understanding, a document that would serve to codify the arrangement between SFPD and the nonprofit. The department said it was in the process of writing an MOU.
The 2022 tax filings for Operation Genesis, the latest available, listed Johnson as a board member and president. But he is no longer included as a board member of the nonprofit, according to its website.
The investigation, which came on the heels of the scandal involving another SFPD-linked nonprofit called SF SAFE, prompted a police commissioner and city supervisors to raise questions about what they saw as a conflict of interest.
Former officers said that while officers have often been assigned to work alongside nonprofits from time to time, they are never allowed to do so when the nonprofit is one they run.
The Department of Human Resources Additional Employment Request guidelines state, “Any employee violating the additional employment requirements is subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.”

2024.05.22 04:39 TerranOrDie Well, I keep getting fucked around for tenure, and I've about had it.

I am in my 3rd year and up for tenure in my district, as are all 3rd year teachers. I have posted about this in the past, but basically we had a long a brutal union contract fight that the union ultimately won but now the district is cutting staff to pay for the new contract. As a result, my position was eliminated. Not going to lie, I was pretty bummed about it. I was on medical leave when I found out, and I think this is why I was cut. I was also the union rep for the department and went to all the picket lines, meetings, and got people involved and this was my reward. I thought I was done for.
However, another teacher in our department is going on leave next year, so they told me I could potentially take over for her, but I had to interview for it. I found this beyond humiliating, as I was subjected to what was an interview for a prospective employee by my colleagues and direct supervisor. I swallowed my pride but I'm still resentful of it.
I met with my principal and he was quite nice, and he explained that due to the budget cuts from the district office all they could offer me was the LTS but my time would still count towards tenure when a position opened up.
A couple of weeks ago, a long time teacher in our department announced his retirement. I was optimistic because I knew this could mean that I could get out of the LTS hell I've been stuck in and finally get some job security. I emailed my direct supervisor and he sets up a meeting during my prep hour. He basically says "let's make this quick so you can get back to prep, but we have an internal transfer so someone else will be taking that job."
So here I am, watching my colleagues who all have tenure get their salary bumps that I helped work for and I get punished for it. I get fired, forced to reinterview, get rehired, dangled tenure, then get the rug ripped out from under me again.
I'm going to say nothing at work, look for a new job, and then hopefully quit. It's clear to me that this administration doesn't value or respect me whatsoever, and has no intention of keeping me around. I also feel used and kicked by the union, even if it's unintentional. I worked for the union contract and lost my job, and then right when I am about to seize tenure and my career goal, some other more senior teacher from another school takes it away.
I'm so miserable and I feel humiliated and stupid. To make it even worse, we have an office where teachers work when not in class due to space issues, and this new teacher who stole my tenure will sit right across from me and teach one of my preps, so will likely want to collaborate/steal my work. If I can leave, I will. My pride is so damaged I can barely drag myself to work. Ugh. This fuckin job.

2024.05.22 04:38 PyroIsSpai A reminder of who Colonel Karl Nell is, who his real boss is, and his "chain of command". He's more connected than you realized.

A quick note about Karl Nell's SALT Conference audience today

There is literally zero possibility that Karl Nell gave his talk tonight without the express authorization of the United States Pentagon and White House, especially with the audience that attends the SALT Conference. Why? Read this post and his resume. You'll understand why. Karl Nell, today, has four (4) bosses over him.
What do you reckon the average net worth of a SALT guest in the crowd is? Eight figures? Nine? A number of the cell phones in the crowd for Nell will have personal phone numbers of United States Senators and House members. Guaranteed.
We were not the audience for Karl Nell tonight. American industry and Congress were the audience.
This guy is a step removed from the National Security Council. These people don't really speak out of turn, and certainly not to tell the leaders of American industry "aliens are real, NHI is real, and yeah, they've been here a long time," and... then name drop two foreign officials who flat out argued that we're covering up diplomatic relations with a "Galactic Federation".
That would be Paul Hellyer and Haim Eshed. My jaw dropped how instantly and full-throated he was with the latter two as people to look toward:

What did Karl Nell have to say about David Grusch in 2023?

Source:
Quotes about Nell:
Karl E. Nell, a recently retired Army Colonel and current aerospace executive who was the Army’s liaison for the UAP Task Force from 2021 to 2022 and worked with Grusch there, characterizes Grusch as “beyond reproach.”
In a 2022 performance evaluation, Laura A. Potter, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Headquarters, Department of the Army, described Nell as “an officer with the strongest possible moral compass.”
Karl Nell on David Grusch:
“His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct, as is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence,” said Karl Nell, the retired Army Colonel who worked with Grusch on the UAP Task Force.

Who is Karl Nell?

He works here today:
This is Karl Nell's boss:
The AFC reports directly to the Army Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Army:
Who do they report to?
United States Secretary of the Army reports to:
Which only reports to:
So the chain of command for Nell today is:
  1. Joe Biden
  2. Lloyd Austin
  3. Christine Wormuth
  4. James Rainey
  5. Karl Nell

2024.05.22 04:37 Playful_Thanks_1896 ZED’ing in South America

Hello! First post so I hope that I do this right 😅.
My traveling companion and I are looking to do a South American trip around November this year from the US (West coast preferred). The countries were hoping to go to our Peru, Bolivia Brazil and Argentina. Airlines that I have ZED agreements with in Latin America are LATAM, GOL, Azul, Avianca, and more (I.e. Vivaaerobus, American-based airlines, etc). I’ve looked around the forums for info on these major airlines to see everyone’s experience with these particular ones. It seems that StaffTraveler isn’t really a thing for employees there so it seems as I usually use that to gauge flight loads to know what to potentially plan a trip around with some backup options as well. I usually try to fly to destinations that have multiple airlines and flights to a specific place so I then have options to nonrev or grab a cheap confirmed flight to my destination.
The question is…..what is your experience nonrevving on the airlines I mentioned above? Any gotchas or things to keep in mind? How do you anticipate loads or is it pretty open most of the time that you don’t worry about it. Is there any routes on specific airlines that are your almost guaranteed backups if you are having trouble getting your destination? Any mix of American based airlines that you use along with the Latin American ones? (The common ones I can ZED is JetBlue, Alaska, Spirit) Thanks in advance!

2024.05.22 04:36 badrobotnate Carmax lien situation

When my wife and I purchased a home a few years ago, in order for the bank to approve us, the loan officer said I was better off taking my wife off the mortgage app and “selling” her my car so that debt would not reflect on my debt to income.
So we got her a new auto loan for my car, used that loan to pay off my auto loan balance, and we got the house. The car stayed in my name, loan was just her.
I’m ready to sell the car now and to my surprise carmax beat everybody with their offer and made it easy. They offered 23k for my car and we still owed 13k. So I should be getting a check for 10k.
As the carmax employee searched my VIN looking for the lien holder, nothing showed up. I’m clearly listed as the owner, but under lien holder it’s totally blank.
I logged into our auto loan (really my wife’s loan) and showed the VIN connected to the loan. LoanStream is the company.
But they said until the correct lien holder is listed, they will not purchase the vehicle.
I don’t know where to start to fix this. Anybody?

2024.05.22 04:36 Famous-Marsupial4425 Advice on giving counseling I don’t agree with.

So I’m in this position where I have two counseling memos for 2 different employees that my boss wants me to write. Neither employee is someone I’ve had any issues with.
First one, guy called in sick 56minutes before the start of his shift. Policy states 1 hour. No attendance issues.
Second one, my guy works second shift. His mother works overnight. We have a, “monthly,” team meeting. We’ve had 2 this year. The last one was scheduled for his and his Mother’s Day off, 1230. He says he just slept through it alarm. Typically he’s 30+minutes early. Never had a counseling for anything else. My boss specifically said that she wants me to write him up because she is having the overnight supervisor write his mother up and doesn’t want it to cause an issue if his mother complains that he didn’t get written up too. Typically these meetings are things that could be covered in an e-mail, and come across as passive aggressive because the topics are usually decided based on one staff screwing up.
I’m considering going in and talking to hr about it tomorrow.

2024.05.22 04:35 kay2way My sap appeal

Hello, I am wondering how this sounds for my Sap appeal. I am in good standing and above a 2.0, as of right now, I am kit eligible for fafsa, which is the reason why for my appeal. I would love any and all feedback. Thank you!
I am writing to appeal against the loss of my federal financial aid eligibility due to not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress. (SAP) requirements and ask you to please restore my eligibility to receive all forms of federal aid. I regret that I have not been able to meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress ( SAP ) requirements. Should I not receive aid, I will not be able to continue my wonderful path here at the University of Texas at San Antonio. During my time of enrollment in a university at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, I had faced numerous challenges that put a delay on my growth and hindered me from reaching my goals of being an academically successful student. After taking a year off to be more proactive about my situation I am writing this letter in hopes of appealing my aid for SAP, which was revoked due to a failure to meet the completion rate. I understand the reason for the stopping of my aid, and I take full accountabilities for all events leading up to that point. I am writing this letter to express the importance in which I hold my education, as well as to outline the steps I plan on taking to ensure that I remain on the road to academic success and completion at University of Texas at San Antonio.
I went back to school in 2017 as an independent student. I faced many obstacles, and being the only person in my family that was able to enroll in college, I was determined to make something of myself and be successful by excelling in my studies, but I came into that college experience with a blind eye and did not utilize the campus resources to be a scholar, like I should had done. During my following semester in 2019, I had recently become pregnant with my son, and that was around the time that COVID-19 had happened. During that time, I was let go from my job due to the lockdown, which left me in a finical crisis, so I was unable to pay for my semester at the time. During the fall of 2020, I had just given birth to my son, so I was finding new self, and my new lifestyle, which had me switched my major multiple times, because I did not have passion for the previous majors that I had selected, so I dropped many courses as well. During the terms for the year 2022, I was still attending the Alamo Colleges out here, but I had recently found my passion in the tech field, I started to be on top of my courses and class work and was able to successfully 2 / 3 succeed during the following years. Once I got transferred to the University of Texas at San Antonio, I knew exactly what my passion was, and I was more than excited to start my growth academically and soar. In the begging of the spring semester, I had just recently bought my first house, so I was preoccupied with packing, and the whole process of buying your first home. I was overly overwhelmed with the moving process, raising my 3-year-old son, and working full time that I lost focused on one of my courses for the term. Since not passing that class, my life has done a complete 360, I decided to take the summer off to organize my house and get everything in order. Now that I have finished moving into my new house, I can fully stay focused and determined not to lose sight of my academics. Now that I am fully moved into my house, My parents help out with my son so that I can take 3 hours every day to study each of my courses, I organized my time to make sure that I will be attending at least 2 tutoring sessions a week, as well as utilizing the university resources to help gain more of an advance on my academics and make sure to meet with my professors and advisor at least twice each semester so I can make sure that I can stay caught up on my course work, and getting more assistance if I do feel lost. If I knew then what I know now, I would have taken a break after my first failed semester, as well truly knowing where my interest lies, so that I didn’t switch my major multiple times. I did not understand the impact of changing majors, and dropping courses that would influence not only my GPA, but also my completion rate for SAP. I also realize that I should’ve taken more of advantage of the student resources provided to me, by the colleges and universities. I also take full responsibility and accountability for the consequences of my actions.
What will be different if given the chance to receive aid again is that I am in a much better place than I have been in the past 5 years, and I will continue to always improve myself and never let my studies go. I will always stay focused during each term of the school year and will never let myself get lost or behind again. I will also commit to routine/ scheduled meetings with my academic advisor as well as professors, and tutoring aids that are available to help with each course. I have a tremendous amount of support from my loved ones who want to see me succeed and be the first one in my family to graduate from college / university. I am not only determined to make something better of myself for myself, but for my son. If I am given this extra chance at this opportunity, I can show my son how successful one can be with life going on, but also that if you don’t give up on your dreams, you can do anything you set your mind to. I am very disappointed in the person who I was in the past, but I am more than happy to say that that person is not me anymore. I have grown so much, and the old me would be so shocked that I even made it this far in life. I know that in life, things are always going to come up and hit you out of nowhere, but I have now realized that no matter what life throws at you, you just got to push through it and keep going, no matter how hard it is. I understand that this chance does not come around often but if you take this amazing chance on me, not only will I succeed and go far in life, but I will provide my son with a better life than I could ever imagine. If awarded this opportunity, I will do everything It takes to become successful and remain successful throughout the remainder of my academic career the University of Texas at San Antonio.
3 / 3 I plan on taking on more tutoring sessions at least twice a week with my professors. I will also take up more of the student resources that the university has to offer, as well as scheduling more appointments with my tutor. I will never drop any of the courses that I am registered for and going to take in the future. I will also never let myself not pass any of these courses. I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that not only will I pass every course that I am taking / and or will take, but I will also make sure that I stay determined and focused and seek out any help from my scholars with my academics.

2024.05.22 04:35 Student-Normal Gurus and Warrior Trading

There are so many questions about thr gurus out there, some are hated, some are fiercely defended, and they all have something else to sell you.
One that is both fiercely hated and fiercely defended is Ross Cameron with Warrior Trading.
The typical discussion runs to his 3 million dollar lawsuit from the FTC, he got sued must be a bad guy discussion (a lot of business owners deal with lawsuits).
I was looking at the FTC ruling and when outlining some of the prohibited actions under the FTC it says
"IT IS ORDERED that Defendants, Defendants’ officers, agents, employees, and attorneys, and all other persons in active concert or participation with any of them, who receive actual notice of this Order, whether acting directly or indirectly, in connection with promoting or offering for sale any good or service are permanently restrained and enjoined from making any Earnings Claims or assisting others in making any Earnings Claims, expressly or by implication, unless the Earnings Claim is non-misleading, and, at the time such claim is made, Defendants: (1) have a reasonable basis for the claim; (2) have in their possession written materials that substantiate the claim; and (3) make the written substantiation available upon request to the consumer, potential purchaser, or the FTC."
Earning Claims are defined as “Earnings Claim(s)” means any representation to a consumer, specific or general, about income, financial gains, percentage gains, profit, net profit, gross profit, or return on investment. Earnings Claims include: (1) any chart, table, or mathematical calculation that demonstrates possible results based upon a combination of variables; (2) any statements from which a prospective purchaser can reasonably infer that he or she will earn a minimum level of income (e.g., “earn enough to buy a Porsche,” “earn a six-figure income,” or “earn your investment back within one year”); and (3) any statements, claims, success stories, endorsements, or testimonials about the performance or profitability of representatives, endorsers, instructors or customers"
Now the question/discussion he repeatedly Claims in videos he turned $583 into $10,000,000, and the FTC fling explicitly states "Earnings Claim is non-misleading, and, at the time such claim is made, Defendants: (1) have a reasonable basis for the claim; (2) have in their possession written materials that substantiate the claim" while there are definitely people lying on the internet is it fair to say he did in fact make $10,000,000 since he made this claim prior to his run in with the FTC and that his "3rd party audited broker statements" aren't a farce? There is no mention that any of the FTC judgments are for misrepresentations of his earnings.
Or can someone smarter than me explain why he can still claim this even if it's bs?

2024.05.22 04:32 Wailinimini Lore question. Im extremely confused pls send jlp

Ok so, can anyone please explain to me the relationship between Orpheous, the detective or the novelist (this confuses me because of the different skins since they could be the same person, but detective Orpheous looks more mature and wears a different ourfit vs novelist orpheous who wears a white suit, looks younger and more refined), the journalist/ Alice DeRosse and the little girl??? The more i read the more confused i get.
In the detective's lore (aside from him being a detective and goind to the manor, blablabla) it says he participated in one of the games, was found unconscious outside the manor with various injuries and after a year of coma, he woke up forgetting who he was and how to write. He was also a very renowned novelist and later became a detective. After a letter to find someone's daughter, he went back to the manor who was in ruins.he was also the orginal protagonist but later changed for the journalist, which confuses me a lot, story wise and why Netease would do that.
Meanwhile in the Novelist's lore, tho they share many similarities, it says he participated in multiple games, experienced memory loss, developed alternate personalities, participated alongside the Journalist in a game with Norton, Frederick and the Entomologist. ??????
The story of Alice DeRoss says, aside from what we saw in the game, that she was sent to the asylum at a very young age after her parents were killed, tortured, later adopted by a Scientist and sent to Australia. Finally at the age of 21 she went back to England as a social journalist. She is hinted to be the older version of the "little girl", in the story and in the survivor book by being connected together, just like the Weeping Clown and the Smiley Clown.
And in the lore of the little girl it says she's the Novelist's daughter???????? How is that even possible 😭
Pleaaaase if someone understands any of that mess and is kind enough to explain it to me, I'll be extremely greatful 💖💖💖💖
Edit: i meant "please send help" for the title... idk what happened there and doesn't let me change it

2024.05.22 04:30 rdk67 Spring Day 63: Actualizing with Thich Nhat Hanh

The day is as hot as any other, but now that my body has come to expect it, I slip on a shirt, plus my beaded necklace, head out to the commons, sprawl in the grass, make like a solar panel and feel inspired. The heat is like a warm round of applause, and I begin reading Thich Nhat Hanh’s advice about mindfulness, happiness and impermanence, its adjacency to the lived experience of heaven on earth, which is more than enough incentive to cause an average summer reading program to really take off. Mindfulness is easily achieved on a day like today – really? challenge the clouds – the clouds are having dreams of being clouds, like each cloud has an aura, which is also made of cloud but wispier, resulting in a sky that dreams of being sky. Maybe the sky is the illustrious career of whoever painted the clouds onto it. They urge the mind to take a breather.
So I try to keep my eyes on the page, and for a few minutes that goes great, but then something tickles my neck, and a minute later, something tickles my wrist, a minute after that, something prompts me to imagine the feminine spirit of nature gently grazing my scalp with a fingertip, as though moving concepts around in my head by force of will, and my experience of time does change – I can feel it – and that present-tense notion of time seems to corroborate the story that vacant commons areas on a sunny spring afternoon aren’t really vacant at all. In point of fact, if the whole place were crowded with people, it wouldn’t much budge an expert’s estimate of the total life already there – average natural abundance is so awe-inspiring to begin with. There are half a billion blades of grass, for instance – I did the math. Who knows how many million ants.
Something tickles my shoulder – I mindfully stop what I’m doing, brush myself off, check out a tiny beetle bug with an orange spot on its back that landed in my lap. A black ant longer than my thumbnail charges down my pant leg. A plant-hopper stops on my knee, and it is a shade of green impossible to believe, a brightness that glows. It adjusts its direction ceremoniously, like it’s consulted some interior atlas of becoming, then leaps away. In the grass on a day like today, the mindfulness tends to find you, and I know the longer I sit there, the more likely I will be to never get up – to get lost in the crowd of life, which at this time of year is surging upward and outward and downward, even as its making trillions of babies to sail through the air. I watch a seed-dreaming-of-seeds levitate above the grass, climb over the treetops, vanish in the clouds.
If humanity has a brilliance unobserved, I nominate our ability to turn the life of potential into the lived existence of the actual – we do it all the time, compulsively even, a term of agreement practically, with occurrence in all its forms. With every breath and wheeze, every eye blink and heartbeat, every ideation of color, form, and sequence – we are self-conscious standard bearers of the present. Or so we would like to believe – the clouds above are panoramic to a degree that gives the stuff of the earth, just being the stuff of the earth, the starring role no matter who we get to stand in front of them, how many skylines we erect. The clouds seem nude in a way, like their striking dramatic poses for the students to sketch with sticks of charcoal. These aren’t the sort of clouds that make it rain, at least not on us. They seem intent on foreseeing the future.
Can clouds do that? If the mind is a kind of cloud, then of course they can, though what follows is soon followed by a desire to shape the future, at which point the clouds check the time, gaze off into the distance, then hurry on, all of which is plenty true of the human mind. Hey, what’s for dinner? I make red beans and rice for the umpteenth time in my life, set the pot to boil, then forget about it, which is an instance of learned incompetence in that, when I finally remember to set the timer, I always end up leaving the pot on the stove ten-minutes too long, and that causes the bottom layer of rb-and-r to caramelize, which deglazes itself when the food cools, and the resulting dish is so substantial – so actualized of its potential – that being mindful of my eating is a pleasure – the rice’n’beans, the parts like hash browns – they rise to my lips like book pages.
This compassionate attention to the value of the actual is not evenly distribute in my life – not even close – such that my living space is more like the sort of hollow that wild mammals tend to prize, the ones they were hole up in all winter long, which was only a couple of month ago, remember – the squirrels still remember that week in January when life in the outdoors passed through a sub-zero death zone. I see three yearling squirrels dancing around the most westward of the sycamores out front. I stop in my tracks, give them time to see me with their fresh social constructs – two hang on either side of the tree, looking at me directly, curiously, and the third is poised at the base of the power box. Power? Don’t do it, I project telepathically – whatever it is, just don’t do it. Your existential task is to unearth vintage nuts, not disrupt global authority.
Or proceed as you please – it’s up to you. How much trouble can the three cutest mammals on the block get into on a day like today? I make a clicking sound by pulling the tip of my tongue off the roof of my mouth, an aural expression I equate with speaking squirrel – I come in peace, I want it to mean. If I had something in my pocket to feed them, the whole interaction would be complete, but I’m empty handed then, so we end up inching toward each other for a minute, get in some good meet-and-greet get-to-know-you time. This probably happens every spring, urges me to carry baggies of popcorn on my person when I’m outside, fantasize about squirrels sitting at the picnic table with me, rubbing their fuzzy ears against my chin, buttoning my shirt for me.
We’re in it together – this is what nature told me today and what I think about later in my peace church loft, which sounds like a brand of sustainability, when someday they sell such a thing to the average consumer. Peace Church Loft – what everyone will be into one day, like an incense fragrance, an aural sensation, more or less guaranteed to produce a life sustained. Faith finds its resurgence when new congregations manifest in the environment in order to erect churches that brim with lofts. Thich Nhat Hanh advises: As soon as we understand the causes and nature of our feelings, they begin to transform themselves. Themselves – they transform themselves when we understand. The nature of the universe is to grow reality by comprehending it, a little better tomorrow than today. A ghostly finger grazes fine hairs on my neck, draws a line to my earlobe.

2024.05.22 04:30 AdDiligent4289 Arborist as Career

Hi folks,
Thinking about getting into arborist/tree care work. Curious to hear from folks?
Is the pay alright? Obviously I’d be starting from the bottom.
It’s still seasonal eh? What’s the typical path? There’s a certification/ticket to be a certified arborist?
I have been in forestry for the last 13 years. Treeplanting, block layout, timber crushing etc. as well as construction and a bunch of other jobs. Lots of odd seasonal jobs so I’m looking for a “town job” that is a bit more stable.
I can run saw, fell most trees (not certified). Have first aid and no problems with heights.
What other things would be good to mention on a cover letteresume?
Located in the Southern Interior. Small/ish town. Is it a competitive job market for somebody without chainsaw tickets?

2024.05.22 04:29 Peace4theWin [Critique flare] UNTITLED-[Adult Dark Fantasy, 90,000]

Appreciate any feedback on the below query letter. Thank you!
TW - implied SA . . . Dear [Agent Name]
After reviewing your Twitter and website, I think my novel perfectly fits your interests. My book, UNTITLED, is a 90,000-word, dark dystopian fantasy. The protagonist, Lucy, is 34 years old and a member of the LGBTQ community. To be reunited with her family, she must embark on a journey that will test her morality to the limit. Some comp titles are School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan and Alone Out Here by Riley Redgate. The Earth is deteriorating, and the Indicas, powerful creatures from the inner Earth, have come to restore balance. Ten percent of the world's population is missing over three days, with most volunteering to serve the Indicas. Lucy, a wife and mother, is taken away from her life and forced to serve the Indicas alongside her friend Kara. They are under the control of Commander Isaiah, who gains energy and abilities from her servants to rehabilitate the planet. Lucy's wife, Sam, alternates POV, and Kara's husband searches for their wives in hopes of reuniting. The Indicas choose people with the brightest auras to support their mission for restoration. Lucy and Kara have purple auras, symbolizing servitude, the rarest aura type. They must find the strength to resist Isaiah so that they can return to their old lives or, at the very least, receive protection for their families as the world falls apart above them. For if they fail, death for their families is certain and even for themselves. I have the privilege of working for XYZ and genuinely love serving XYZ. I am happily married in a queer relationship with two beautiful little girls. Thank you for taking the time to read about my novel.

2024.05.22 04:27 TaxApprehensive76 Historical Fiction Romance Saga (London/Australia/Female Lead Nurse/Irish mobster male lead)

This is a long book, I found it in hard cover with a jacket. Her name is something like India or Violet, and it’s quite possibly the name of the book. She is an upper class Victorian woman who is betrothed to a man in a lot of debt who is only marrying her to get out of it. She meets a man who’s name is something like Sid, who is trying to get out of the Irish crime family he was adopted into. They meet when she is on the run and he helps her through his shady part of town.
She had to go into the shady part of town for a cure for something, maybe an abortion for herself or someone close to her. There she discovered that the poor people were sick and wanted to help them and kind of became a moonlighting nurse and sort of discovered the concept of bacteria and the importance of cleanliness when dealing with sick people, which she struggled to convince her doctor.
She got sick and ended up marrying her fiancé despite finding out that he was using her. Either her or the male lead were shipped to Australia and they had to find each other in the Outback.
It was more a saga than a fluffy historical romance. The cover was dark with purple lettering and a flower I think. Please, I’ve been looking for this book for years! Long shot but I really hope someone can help me!!

2024.05.22 04:26 NearbyAbrocoma659 Post of Gratitude to this sub

Hello sisters of the sub!
I am writing this as a gratitude post to everyone in here. I had been going through a tough situation in life - having been a good student and a good employee, I had set career aspirations high for myself. However, after marriage everything turned upside down. With an emotionally - verbally - financially abusive husband who wouldn't bear his side of the burden, not give any support until it is for his gain, using me like a toy for his needs ( physical/financial/emotional), I also took the ridiculous discussion of taking a career break. ( Women who think of doing this because the stress is becoming too much for you in a marriage - don't. The Husband and In - laws who give no value to you will not suddenly magically turn supportive). Anyhow, I was also writing an exam and last year this time, I failed in that by a small margin.
The resulting despair drove me closer to God, set my priorities straight, since I understood I needed therapy and sought it myself ( with again, no support from my husband or in - laws, but gladly, my parents supported me), which helped me see clearly the patterns my husband and his parents follow - manipulate, gaslight and abuse me to make themselves comfortable. and also set clear boundaries, say a clear No even after unlimited manipulation.
Now I have got a good job. However, I have also realized the harmful patterns that led me to spending more, while husband scoots from his duties at home, which leads me with lesser money for myself and such. I have earlier posted on this sub regarding all this and the support I got was overwhelming. You all were truly a light in my darkest night.
I am leaving him eventually, I need to settle into the job and want my son to be older, so he understands why I am about to put him through a harsh child custody battle, and hopefully forgives me for breaking up his family.
Thank you, however.
