2024.05.21 05:56 IT_CertDoctor I'm not sure if I'm ready for my Network+ exam

I see posts like this all the time from folks trying to break into IT: "I purchased 2-3 courses and bought all these practice exams. I'm not sure if I'm going to be ready for my exam"...
...and there's always one key feature missing: nobody ever seems to ask how do I PRACTICE the material that's going to be on the exam
It's very important to remember that IT certifications - as in the paper itself, not the knowledge you accrue from studying for it - serve one purpose and one purpose only: to get you an interview
Once you've landed that interview, your certification has served its purpose and is no longer applicable to the process. You must now rely on your technical abilities to competently demonstrate that you have the technical skills needed to do the job. And how do you gain those technical skills? By practicing the material that is covered on these certs
So do yourself a favor. Start doing home labs to supplement your study material:
Good luck out there

2024.05.20 16:58 Wiesnak20 I need help

Today i got these questions to do in cisco packet tracer, is this doable? Thank you and sorry English is not my first language Questions:Configure the network interfaces of your computer and network devices to allow access to the local network.
  1. Using connecting cables, connect computers and network devices according to the diagram shown in the figure on the previous page.
  2. Configure the router's network interfaces as recommended. If the router setup process forces you to change your passwords, record your login information after the change:
WAN-IP/mask 10.0.0.3/24, gateway-10.0.0.1/24, DNS - localhost;
LAN port no. 2-IP/mask 192.168.1.1/24.
Configure VLAN on router create VLAN 12 and VLAN 13 and add router port 2 to both VLANs with outbound rule marked.
Disable wireless and DHCP support.
  1. Configure the switch connected to the router as recommended. If the switch configuration process forces you to change your password, report the login information after the change:
IP/mask 192.168.1.2/24;
⚫ default gateway 192.168.1.1;
create VLAN with ID=12;
create VLAN WITH ID-13;
⚫ to VLAN 12 add ports 1 and 2 as untagged ports;
⚫ to VLAN 13 add ports 1 and 3 as untagged ports;
define the outbound rule for port 1 according to the tags in VLAN 2 1 VLAN 3; specify port 2 outbound rule on VLAN 2 as untagged: specify port 3 outbound rule on VLAN 3 as untagged;
⚫port 4 untagged (in access mode), assigned to VLAN ID-2.
  1. On the workstation connected to port 3 of the switch connected to the router, configure the wired NIC as follows:
⚫ network connection name INT1;
⚫ IP address/mask 192.168.1.3/24;
⚫ gateway address 192.168.1.1;
⚫DNS address 8.8.8.8.
  1. On the printer or IoT device, configure the wired NIC network interface as recommended:
⚫ IP address/mask 192.168.1.4/24;
⚫ gateway address 192.168.1.1.
  1. Check whether there is a connection from the workstation command line to the router and printer (IoT device).
  2. Save the report document on the medium described as EFFECTS and hand it over to the teacher for evaluation.

2024.05.20 14:36 Cosy_Coconut Pinging through a router

So, I'm a major noob when it comes to packet tracer (if I'm too vague or anything let me know!)
So I have PCA, A Switch, Router1, and Router2 connected in a row in packet tracer.
Router1 and Router2 are able to ping each other. PCA is able to ping Router1 but not Router2. The PCs default gateway is on the interface of R1 that connects it to the switch.
I know that it's something to do with how I've configured as to why it's not working but does anyone have any advice on what configurations I might need to add/change to enable PCA to ping Router2?
I've spent hours trying to figure it out myself but don't seem to be getting anywhere. TIA :)

2024.05.19 15:45 user12546425134s Need some desperate help with packet tracer task/challenge

Hey, having some problems with the packet tracer file below. To give a basic rundown I am very new to packet tracer and I have a challenge for my unit which involves completing a half-finished network. the only thing that matters is having end to end connectivity basically every device should be able to ping every other device.
I am stuck and dont know what to do. If anyone would try it that would be great! download link is below...
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zPnkrBjdEAb1SE6Rf_9MaCkkweIk9Z_K?usp=drive_link
Update: passwords are as follows,
Password for the access point is Testing123_B1 and Testing123_B2 (for left and right access points)
Every other password should be as follows: All other usernames are Admin All other passwords are Testing123

2024.05.19 04:02 Thy_OSRS Router GigabitEthernet Port running at 100Mbps in Packet Tracer - Why?

I can only imagine this has been noted and picked up in Packet Tracer before but I have a fiber connection from a 2901 with the 1000BASE-LX/LH SFP module to a 3650-24P switch - I noticed that there was an increase in collisions and noted that this must be due to a duplex mismatch, low and behold, it was.
The Port speed on the router is set to Full-Duplex 100Mbps - The switch port is 1000Mb/s Half Duplex - Why? I would have imagined that, given they are apparently both GigabitEthernet ports that this would have autonegotiated and this wouldn't happen but apparently not!
Is this just a Packet Tracer thing?

2024.05.18 04:10 Deepspacecow12 Almost finished with CCNA cert guide books, need a free solution for labs besides packet tracer. Is FRR/Vyos a good enough subtitute to run virtual routers? What else should I do to study?

I want to get my CCNA before they update it again, and need a way to memorize commands and experience the concepts in action. Books were bought used, so I can't use the online resources for them, I love reading them, as networking is fascinating to me. I am a high school student with no experience, but I have a XCP-NG host with a 4 port nic, and am wondering if running some FRR based routers will be good enough to memorize syntax and mess with actual systems. Parent's won't let me buy Ex-sim, is this the best free solution? My switch does have Broadcom ICOS, and if there is another NOS similar to cisco I could try for free, that would be nice to know.

2024.05.17 22:44 Looser_9344 CCST networking

Hey Everyone, i am going to take the CCST networking exam in couple of days, i needed some resource to test my knowledge, some people say they have just passed the exam by going through skills of all course, i am like seriously is the exam that easy? anyhow i have gone through skills for all and other resources as well. have a strong grip on subnetting cables and connectors troubleshooting commands cisco packet tracer connections and also the configurations like DHCP, wireless security, monitoring traffic. little bit struggling with standards and link light indicators cloud development and service models and all the remaining topics
just need some basic overview of the difficulty of the exam.
so if you guys know of any resources to practice it would be helpful.

2024.05.17 18:35 185cm_80kg_37cm İnterface up without cable plugged packet tracer

I configured a network with one switch, three VLANs, and one router, but I forgot to plug in the cable to the router. When I looked at the "ip interface brief" status field, it showed "up" instead of "down," and the protocol field was "down" (as expected). My question is, if there is no cable, how can the status field be "up"? I know I used the "no shutdown" command, but I thought the status field indicated the Layer 1 status, so if there is no cable, it should be "down." Is the status being "up" normal when there is no cable, or is there a problem?

2024.05.17 02:09 thenameless231569 Study Advice/Tips

Hello everyone! I've been studying for CCNA since October of last year, working mostly with the Official Cert Guide and video trainings available on Pluralsight. I bought the books because I was told by a few people I know that it's the best way to study, but I'm now remembering just how difficult it is for me to learn from a text book.
I'm fortnuate in that I'm currently working as a network coordinator, where I oversee and "manage" the MSP that is responsible for our corporate network. While my position gives me plenty of exposure to our environment and networking as a whole, it's very infrequent that I actually get to work on our infrastructure.
I don't really have the money to start buying equipment for learning, but I do have Cisco Packet Tracer and access to some old C3750s, ASR1001s, and a 5508 WLC in the office that are not being used anymore (I'm not allowed to take the old quipment home with me unfortunately).
If there's anyone else out there that's had a hard time studying from books, what did you do? Does anyone have any advice on effective studying tips? Thanks in advance!

2024.05.17 01:11 Recckkless New to this, book learning is pointless for me without something hands on to reinforce the book learning. What programs, websites, etc. can i use to try some stuff out?

Well as title suggests, im new to this. Most ive done was build/repair my PCs over the years and that is about it. Im not looking to career jump anytime soon but i wanna start getting my hands into it. Ive watched tons of Prof Messer videos, paid for a month of CBTnuggets and theyve all helped a TON but videos and text based study material is almost useless to me as I will not retain any of that without some kind of hands on reinforcement.
What kind of resources are there for this? I tried the google route and havent had much luck lol. I know about packet tracer but thats about it. I know people use VMs for this purpose sometimes but i dont know what id be looking for with that.
Apologies if this isnt the right sub for this!
