Separately, Netflix announced it would launch its own advertising platform and no longer partner with Microsoft for that technology. The tech giant will remain a programmatic advertising partner.
Netflix introduced the ad-supported plan in November 2022 as part of a wider effort to drive revenue amid slowing subscriber growth. That strategy included last year’s password-sharing crackdown.
The company said Wednesday that 40% of all signups in countries that have the ad tier available are for that cheaper plan. Netflix now has 270 million total subscribers.
The monthly active ad-tier user figures come just a month after Netflix told investors it would no longer be providing quarterly subscriber number updates. The company said at the time that it was generating substantial profit and free cash flow and that its membership numbers were not the only factor in the company’s growth. It said the metric lost significance after it started to offer multiple price points for memberships.

LockBit’s website is back The NCA, FBI, and Europol are having a bit of fun with the LockBit ransomware gang’s former website. The agencies, which seized the site back in February, have replaced the original content with their own press releases, and are now planning to release new information about the hackers. On Monday, the site had a countdown to some of the teasable posts, including “Who is LockbitSupp?” and “More LBhackers exposed.” Here’s the good news: if you are reading this after 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, the posts should already be live. Lockbit takes credit for Wichita attack The pernicious ransomware organization added the city of Wichita to its leak site, giving officials until May 15th to pay an unspecified ransom. We previously covered the city’s announcement of the attack over the weekend. In the wake of the attack, city officials say it can only accept cash or checks for all city services, although the city will not shut off water services as a result until regular payment methods come back online. This attack also comes on the heels of the US law enforcement agencies publicly naming the suspected leader of LockBit, Dmitry Khoroshev. (The Record)
Feds warn about North Korean exploitation of improperly configured DMARC The FBI, the NSA and the State Department published a joint advisory last stating that hackers from the Kimsuky operation are targeting improperly configured DNS Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) record policies.” DMARC is supposed to authenticate email messages to avoid spoofing. After identifying email systems whose DMARC is improperly configured, the group then prepares and sends convincing spearphishing emails which appear to have been sent from a legitimate domain. NSC’s Neuberger suggests operational approach for on mitigating cyberattacks In an interview with Click Here, a podcast from Recorded Future News, deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging technologies Anne Neuberger suggests that more should now be done to build cybersecurity into an organization’s daily operations. Describing how much of the focus is on restoration as in “how quickly can an attacked hospital or pipeline recover from an attack,” she says now more than ever the process must shift to having “the right operational risk measures to ensure we’re taking the right steps.” As an example, she highlights with a pipeline “the network connecting the traditional corporate part and the operational part that controls gas flow [needs to] have separations, so a hacker hacking somebody’s email can’t disrupt oil in a pipeline.” From a threat perspective, she highlights the change in China’s cyber operations as a shift from espionage, stealing national secrets or corporate intellectual property, to pre-positioning in critical services like water systems and pipeline systems. Two-thirds of organizations failing to address AI risks According to new research from ISACA, just 34% of digital trust professionals believe organizations are paying sufficient attention to AI ethical standards. Under a third (32%) said organizations are adequately addressing AI concerns such as data privacy and bias. This despite 60% of respondents stating that employees at their organization are using generative AI tools in their work. The study said the number of organizations now formally permit the use of generative AI is up 14% compared to just six months ago. The three most common ways AI is currently used are to increase productivity (35%), automating repetitive tasks (33%) and creating written content (33%). (Infosecurity Magazine)
Cancer patient data exposed for 5 years gets copied by unidentified third parties California-based Guardant Health is now busy alerting patients that “information related to samples collected in late 2019 and 2020 was inadvertently exposed online to the general public after an employee mistakenly uploaded it.” The information included PII and test results. Affected people may never have been aware of Guardant’s existence let alone the breach, because it is a supplier of testing services to physicians and hospitals. The data was accessible from October 5, 2020, to February 29, 2024 - before being noticed by the company. Guardant confirms, “the file containing the sensitive data was copied by unidentified third parties between September 8, 2023, and February 28, 2024. (BitDefender)
Gift card fraud ring targets retailers’ employees A warning from the FBI regarding Storm-0539, a financially motivated hacking group that targets the mobile devices of retail department staff using a phishing kit that enables them to bypass multi-factor authentication. After stealing the login credentials of gift card department personnel, the group seeks out SSH passwords and keys, which along with employee PII can be sold online. They then use compromised employee accounts to generate fraudulent gift cards. (BleepingComputer)
CISA is moving the needle on vulnerability remediation CISA launched its Ransomware Vulnerability Warning Pilot in January 2023, and issued 1,754 warning notices to entities with vulnerable internet-accessible devices in its first year. The agency said that nearly half (for a total of 852) of these notifications resulted in organizations either patching, briefly taking systems offline to fix the issue, or otherwise mitigating exploitable flaws. The pilot program is set to launch as a fully automated warning system by the end of next year.Another CISA-led initiative called Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV), which the agency introduced in 2021, is also speeding up vuln remediation times. The KEV is designed to notify government agencies and enterprises of high-risk threats in the wild. Bitsight reported that critical KEVs are remediated 2.6 times faster than a non-KEV threats, while high-severity KEVs are fixed 1.8 times faster. Non-profits and NGOs are the slowest to remediate, while tech companies and insurance and financial firms are the fastest. (The Register and Dark Reading)

The past couple of days/ weeks have been insuffarable on this subreddit and it's only actively hurting the playerbase and alienating the ones that will help us push in the right direction.
1. Veeraah
Now to address and understand this issue we need to clear up the confusion the difference between a Bean Brigadier and a community manager.
A Bean Brigadier is an associate position. They make content about ur game, you give them pointers, like please don't curse in your videos or don't mention this topic, but in return you give them benefits. We heard from iirc Sacrix that for him it was 200k MP per month. You can also get invitations for test servers and produce content non-brigadiers cannot, e.g the New Age presentation that Misusing was allowed to post on his channel before even the official Maple YT channel. That's your motivation, benefits and brownie points essentially. If you do it right you can make content creation your irl job you live off, yes, but you are not paid by Nexon. They might pay for a hotel stay or flight, yes. You are a gamer that does work with Nexon.
A community manager is an official position, you are paid in real $, € or whatever. This also means that the pointers aren't pointers anymore but rules you have to follow. You are now representing the company directly and it's values. The term community manager has been diluted. It does not mean you are the voice of the community. What is a PR manager? Public relation manager. Let's say there is a scandal. Famous person X, who works on Project P did action A. The PR manager's role isn't to say what is on our minds, but to save X's reputation so P doesn't lose too much money. Come up with excuses and relate A to us, like: "This can happen to anyone".
I know alot of people lost their minds when I state CM isn't the voice of the community. Their job is to voice player concerns to the devs, after some basic filtering is done, e.g "Give us Sia from Maplestory M" isn't even worth the mention. They are the bridge between devs, who have trouble communicating and the players, who also have trouble communicating. They have to understand how each side functions and manage the community's expectation on what can be done, communicate updates etc. Might also require to post on social media, but most important, keep the playerbase hyped. I have addressed several concerns over the years and I'm often being taken serious when I do address an issue. Yes it might be a thankless job, but if you compare it to something like customer service, it's not much different. CS don't just smacktalk their product, instead they try to find a solution to the problem you might have, but they can only help you if you are properly addressing and describing your issue. As a CM you are a Nexon employee that plays the game.
This might sound like unnecessary information to some, but after having read my Discords and Reddits post, this information is vital if you want to go forward and be taken serious.
Now let's talk about the infamous stream that got our previous CM fired. IMPORTANT: This one was the OFFICIAL Maplestory channel, not his private Twitch. I did watch it personally, I was chilling and grinding. I know alot of people lost their minds because he was gonna start his heroic char and kept flaming him, saying ofc Interactive is doomed because that guy doesn't have an idea what the usual player is suffering from. The funny part is: he started the stream playing his 267 AB in the Interactive world, did his dailies and was vibing. Actually he's in the perfect position to understand the majority of the playerbase's concern. Not everyone is 285 and soloing Hseren. The cube changes we did not receive would've helped people like him. We have triple primes in GMS thanks to Equalities and Unicubes. For whales it is muuuuch cheaper to get triple primes and if you add them all up, probably more than all of KMS, eventhough they are maybe 150x our Interactive playerbase?
He was motivated and hyped about things he is allowed to announce in the future and stating how working with Jade is a treat. Then just some casual gaming and eventually the infamous Niru situation. Backtracking a bit - Nexon promoted Niru's stream, forwarded their viewers, like alot of content creators. Niru then took a stand AGAINST Nexon. He used his platform to protest and did not hit the 300.
People were laughing: haha they took off his banner. While some speculated that it was just on a timer and it ran out. Even if it wasn't: Why would a company promote a guy shitting on them? Like seriously, please think with ur human and not your gamer brain. What company stands with those people who glue themselves on the streets. Mercedes doesn't send their media team over there to promote them. CCs are blacklisted for way less if you look around the globe and don't just live in the Maple bubble.
Now having said that: Niru is blacklisted by Nexon. Case made. Veeraah did not just mention Niru, I can affirm the other Redditor, he did state something like what he did was dope. Let's play devil's advocate and say: He meant to say his lvl 300 grind was awesome. He didn't clearly communicate that. He is on the official Maplestory channel he needs to pay attention to his words precisely. However like the other Redditor I can attest he spoke like a gamer and not a professional that very moment. He had a task at hand, might've been difficult yes, but in my eyes this was a good test. If he does well you know you can rely on him, going forward: in person presentations etc without having to hire another professional and waste more money on said person. He failed to remain professional.
For anyone who might be in a similar situation, you try to divert while maintaining a positive attitude, except if Nexon told him precisely not to say ANYTHING about the topic and avoid looking at the chat if his name pops up. We have had several streams in the past where Jade/Ezra and Veeraah acted like chat doesn't exist, it is an option.
"Everyone feels frustration at times, but our devs are working hard to give you guys the best experience possible. Nexon does care about their customer base and that's why Inkwell with his wealth of experience was brought over to give the team the right pointers. This patch might have not been for Niru and his level of progression. It's a celebration of the game and all it's players over the years, casual gamers, returning players and alike, also a great event to boost your legion and man I'm hyped about all the cosmetics from our childhood. Just look at the store. So many items I missed as a child that I now can easily get. And after we are done Maypril, the 19th Anniversary we get a plethora of QoLs with Dreamer and the game is only gonna get bigger and better" - your PR statement. Managing expectations while hyping up the community. When you are hype, they are hype.
Afterwards you DM Niru on your burner stating you think what he did was awesome and apologizing that you could not speak further or you'd lose your job. The fact that Veeraah downplays all of this and states: Also, sorry for saying the name "Niru", tells me personally that Nexon was in fact right for firing him and he did not understand the assignment. His job was to divert attention to the 19th annual celebration of the game. Firing might've been over the top, but we don't know if he got strikes in the past, someone mentioned he might've gotten one with Ezra, but that's gossip unless confirmed.
Me saying all of this isn't me harrassing him. It's how a company works and I hope he takes this to heart and improves upon his attitude going forward. I'm grateful for what he did for the community and that's why I waste my time writing alot of this. I'm not a CC trying to stir up drama. I also know that we share this version of the game with several countries, varying from America to Mexico, all over to some countries in Europe like Netherlands, Germany etc and there are even SEA, Brazil and even Chinese players (from China if u can believe it). It indeed is Global - does also mean alot of cultures clash. I grew up with Asian values, however I was raised with western modern children and saw their values. I say this to say that we will have disagreements in the comments if their treatment was fair or it wasn't. Nexon America is a subsidiary to Nexon Korea, so alot of the higher ups are Asian. Discipline and patience is valued while being defiant is a no go. For me this feels like another Monday, but I can understand if a NYC born is shocked to the brim by their decision, but there was a reality check given.
2. Niru
Whatever he said and did was on him and he deserves the spotlight he was given. He grinded his ass off for 2 years for this moment and "gave it all up". I commend him for doing it. I do grind for several hours on end at times. Sometimes just listening to music, sometimes watching movies and other times just thinking about stuff I need to solve or simply personal thoughts. When he was close to hitting 300 and then took a 15 minute break to think about what to say I was just thinking to myself: you had thousands of hours to think, why break up the flow of the stream. He then came back and to the regular interactive Mapler he spoke out what was on their mind for years, however all I could think was: This sounds like a rant, I wish he had something like a document with a list he worked through. Visualize it for people. We had a lot of Asian viewers who might not follow your fluid speech but if you put it on a list it's easier to understand and follow and helps yourself not to get lost in blabbering.
I'm not playing WoW, but because it's with RS, DFO and Maple one of the longest running MMO I do follow history, botting issues, concerns etc and a CC Asmongold gets recommended quite often. GMS, EMS, SEA are in constant battle with hackers and there were alot of measurements/ balance decisions to combat them, because unlike Korea you can just spam create accounts and don't need an ID. Yes you might have not seen a hackebotter in Luna or Elysium in years, but look in the Market Place. You will see Pensalirs etc being sold for 20-60b, Mesos are still being sold in mass. Nexon can never publicly address this because that would be admitting defeat, they can also not be open about it because they would give hackers an insight how they operate helping them work around anti-bans. While yes there are some botters in Reboot it's much more efficient to get rid of a "main" and much easier to detect a 1T meso botted account that will be sold. There also isn't an economy that's being ruined. All of this leads to Reboot being the easier server to manage in GMS.
This doesn't mean Interactive is doomed, but alot of the endgame players are part of the problem. I used to be part of top guilds and actively left. Argued a ton whenever it came to RMT/ Meso buying. RMT is short for Real Money Trade. This means you trade a Mapler an In-Game item and get $/€ in return. It's against the ToS and against rule 4 in this subreddit, however reality is that alot of the Discords (official Discord ofc against) allow it, albeit maybe with codewords, while others are pretty open about it and I lost plenty of arguments being against RMT and RMT players. This is for both EU and NA, there is no difference. Yes you might be a whale and spent 30k on the game but Nexon only ever saw 1k of it themselves, so ofc their motivation isn't as high compared to Reboot where you know any person in a NX outfit did spend that money actually on the game. Having played this game for over 10 years, I met 2 whales that actually did their gear themselves. Frenzy Totem aside, that one is just stupid and needs to be addressed by Inkwell soon.
Yes whaling and getting to endgame is expensive, however it is the name of the game. I'm not saying go spin on Marvels and fund Nexon, but there is this issue not many interactive endgamers are ready to address. Sometimes I see people buying mesos for 10% better rates than just buying them legally in game for NX-> MP -> Meso Market and fueling the game. They might lose 10%, but Nexon loses 100%. Again Nexon follows the cashflow and money is the easiest motivator.
This is a game of chicken, however I understand Nexon's position and would just advise to take a stand against RMT in the several discords and exclude RMT players, so they can go form their own guild and community where it's easier to single them out by Nexon, while you convert your NX to MP and then to Mesos. Hackers would have had a field day with the new system. Why is no one talking about this? Ofc you can call me all kinds of delusional and sellout but don't expect much sympathy from Nexon and stop blaming Rebooters please, it will not help your situation.

Veeraah didn't just mention Niru, he spoke supportive of him. In that moment he was a gamer and not a Nexon employee. Alot of companies would've done what Nexon did.
Niru has made some good points, but it would have helped if they were more conceise and presented in a way that made it feel like a school presentation and less of a rant. He had thousands of hours to prepare his thoughts and yes he doesn't owe anyone anything. Yes to some people this sounds otherworldly, but if you can step out of your Mapler bubble and look at this from an outside perspective, it was a rough to follow.
