2024.05.21 18:33 Tortie_lover1 Eating yeast, preventing healing?

Hello, I have been searching reddit and Google for an answer with this. Can baking yeast feed viruses and bacteria? I've never seen it mentioned in the books, I know all about nutritional yeast so no need to share that info. But that's the only thing I've been eating that i am hoping is what is derailing my progress. Because then I know what to take out and have an answer as to why I still get hives and have bowel issues. If this is a "no" food why is it not talked about?

2024.05.21 17:53 Puzzleheaded_Oven379 I ate fast food yesterday and I'm freaking out.

Mmfnkjfjsjdnndjdjdjdj ok so let me preface this by saying that I am in very very very early recovery. I also will mention 🍃 (delta 8 which is legal here)
One of my triggers/anxieties is that I really don't like when other people make me food. I've had 2 friends make me food over the last several months because I was horribly ill. Other than that, I haven't gone out to eat in a long long time because it's too scary, no family dinners, etc. It's way too scary and sober, I won't be ready for a long time.
Well. Yesterday I took my friend to the vape shop and they had these $2 dark chocolate edibles and I'm slowly working my way up to sugar but I'm not there yet and these were sugar free. And I had to cut out THC when my gastritis was bad and only now get to reintroduce it and I was like "sweet it's the perfect lil snack!"
Um. Tolerance people. My tolerance is different. 20mg of delta 8 hits different when you haven't had it in ages. I didn't cut it. I should have cut it.
Long story short I was blazed enough to ask for taco bell. Everybody was SHOCKED because me, asking for fast food??! My roommates and wife immediately got excited and got it for me. And my wife took a bite for every bite I did and didn't let me look up the nutrition info. I had a burrito supreme and a side of pinto beans.
After my wife and I ate like 2/3 of the burrito, I just started panicking and sobbing. Like. Bad. I cried for like 15 minutes inconsolably and then continued crying for another 15 minutes while my roomies helped me do grounding techniques and my wife cuddled me (I love my support team).
I feel embarrassed for crying so hard over a half eaten burrito and now that I'm (mostly sober) my ED brain is trying to convince me I'm slipping completely out of control and need to restrict really hard again because I feel like I'm not being healthy anymore and I'm going to get sick.
I did wake up with extreme heart burn.

2024.05.21 08:43 FancyCry5828 Do I need a food scale to properly count calories?

I've been using the LoseIt app for almost a couple months now, I didn't own a scale up until today so I'm unsure of my starting weight but I probably lost about 5 pounds since starting. I just find it hard to track home cooked meals especially because they will have the same meal on there with the nutrition info posted by someone else. There's no way I can know if mine contains more calories than theirs because of slightly different ingredients or preparation. Also things like pizza, the slices are all different sizes so they each definitely have different calorie content. Should I just be overestimating how many calories are in everything just in case?

Weekly Recap 05/12/24-05/18/24: 81 Posts
"Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world... would do this, it would change the earth." William Faulkner
This is the weekly recap of the 81 monetized posts from Kylea and Joseph "Joe" Gomez of Kylea G Weight loss Journey from 05/12/24-05/18/24.
They have made 690+ monetized posts in 6 weeks.
Disclaimers: I am not a physician, influencer, or paid content creator. I am not affiliated with WW. I am semi-retired from the healthcare field with multiple college degrees. These opinions are my own based on social media content. I wish no harm to Kylea or Joe Gomez.
☎️ If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, please call or text 988 for assistance.
📢 To the perfectionists, Kylea has a habit of heavily editing posts 3+ times and archiving/hiding and deleting posts. I do not have a burner account for Facebook and have not viewed every comment made. She does not post receipts and is secretive about her purchases.
The tagline of Kylea G Weight loss Journey is, "I changed my entire life with prayer and a playlist of songs. No surgery, no meds. Just Jesus."
Of the 81 monetized posts last week on the topic of faith:
0/81 discussed which version of the Bible she prefers
0/81 revealed her church home, a service she attended online/in person, or how she worships when traveling
0/81 discussed a personal/group Bible study she completes/attends
0/81 were a favorite scripture or Bible verse
Of the 81 monetized posts last week on the topic of music:

0/81 shared a recommendation for another weight loss influencer to follow
0/81 shared a source for her recipes
4/81 shared a recipe. Shared recipes below.
  1. Cherry Cheesecake Overnight Oats
  2. Pretzel Salad
  3. Taco Soup 🚨 High Sodium
  4. Taco Soup Rice Bowls 🚨 High Sodium
⚠️ Disordered Eating- Daily WW Points Consumed (based on monetized content):

📢 To our friends at Meta, Kylea can consume up to 30 WW points per day, roll over 4 unused daily points, and consume 28 weekly points. She is clearly underutilizing her daily points and weekly points. This is dangerous and potentially deadly messaging for those on a weight loss journey. She has 139k+ followers. 🚨

2024.05.20 22:01 KnockedDown7Up8 33 [M4F] - Once more with feeling?

Pics here.
I don't often smile for pics.
I'm probably about to move in the next several months to start my next chapter. I've been through a dark couple years and I'm fighting for better. My family often calls me resilient because of this. I've come close to dying several times in the past few years and life has finally slowed down and I'm really transforming my mind and body for better.
I really enjoy making people laugh in dark moments. Tense situations I try to be the guy who has to remain unphased. I've grown from a guy with crippling self esteem issues to someone who has to remain strong in the face of my own doubts and the world around me. This is lonely and hard and I'm sure a lot of people understand that.
It's weird when people here say they love camping because I've been so far from being able to enjoy something like that. That would really be the ideal getaway though. Campfire for the night, out on the water in the day. I miss the gentle roll of a boat underneath me. Miss being able to hear silence and crackling fire interrupted by voices.
I can barely enjoy video games with so much on my plate but I do game. I love stand up, crime docs, working out (I have a home weight bench and dumbbells), reading updates on upcoming entertainment projects, and recently I've really become aware of nutrition (I try to keep to a calorie deficit using an app) facts and numbers.
I love tattoos and want more so badly but I have so much other things that are a priority first.
I'm wound up sometimes. I'd like to talk about nonsense but I have so many things I gotta do after the onslaught of bullshit that I've been dealing with the past few years, some of it my fault and I've grown from it.
I'd love to find someone that I click with. But I feel so out of sync with the world. Let's become friends and see where it goes. I'm always looking for the next adventure and would be willing to become a pillar in someone's life who can possibly feel like home. If I feel you're someone who doesn't respect me or my boundaries though, or you're someone who is gonna thrash my peace, I'm gonna distance fast. I have more info about me in my other posts. I don't wanna ramble further. I'm real in a world where people mask their intentions and serve themselves even when it stabs those closest. I'm devoted. And I'm growing away from my past. Who wants to see who we could become?

2024.05.20 21:17 JimmySquidGuy Does all black coffee contain negligible calories?

Even without cream/sugar some black coffee grinds taste sweeter than others. I bought Dunkin Donut’s brand French Vanilla coffee grinds but there is no nutrition info on the container, is it safe to assume that has no sugar and will not break a fast, or do certain flavored coffee grinds contain some sugar?

2024.05.20 20:40 Dull-Pin-2610 How many calories do i roughly burn a day?

Im 18 and 5’2ft and trying to gain a liiiitttle bit of weight but unfortunately i cant exactly track calories because of my past with an eating disorder so i have to estimate, but since i remember alot of nutritional info from foods i eat my estimates are quick good, im just trying to find what my calories goal each day should be/how much i burn a day.
• I bike 30 minutes to work 5 days a week.
• Im a housekeeper who works in a building thats 18 stories high and i work for 4 hours but ngl its pretty intense haha.
• i bike 30 minutes back home.
• and then i work for about 30 mins - 1 hour each day + 100 squats because i like them.
If someone could roughly give me an idea how much that burns that would really help me. And because ive had a few people say this yes i have posted on this sub before and yh. Thank you!

2024.05.20 20:03 JulieG350Jgs Power of the Mind

How to keep your vibrations high to thrive through negative times

1. Stay hydrated: Filtered water with a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt added (see below)

2. Get outdoors as much as possible.=Natural Vitamin D

3. Eat Fresh Whole Foods=vitamins through foods

4. Mind your thoughts: choose positive uplifting thoughts, stay away from ALL negative thinking, and choose to embody happy feelings. Fear, Paranoia and Negativity are tools that empower the Dark Occultist Globalists (WEAPONIZED Negativity AGAINST humanity. See below)

5. Meet more positive like-minded people you resonate with, even if you might disagree at times they won't attack, belittle, argue with or demean you.

6. Get rid of TV and MSM=They program you with subliminal messages, subliminal energetic energies, and negative ideology (mind control/indoctrination). Don't let things you can’t control "control" you (see below)

7. STOP eating processed packaged foods/beverages, reduce to eliminate synthetic chemicals in pharmaceuticals.

8. Cash is King. Digital is part of the Digital ID and control through AI=Internet of Things (Mark of the Beast)

9. Spend more time in nature, walk outdoors, go barefoot and ground in earth to discharge negative magnetic toxins accumulated in body (see below)

10. Read books, light candles, meditate, sing, tap into inner creativity, get a calming hobby, learn to relax, and release workaholic materialistic obsessive ideology.

Grounding/Earthing (People obsessed and possessed over the need to wear shoes except when sleeping are cutting themselves off from the PROVEN health benefits through grounding)
*
Integrative and lifestyle medicine strategies should include Earthing (grounding): Review of research evidence and clinical observations
Highlights • Earthing (grounding) connects people to the Earth's natural healing energy.
• Reduces inflammation, pain, and stress; improves blood flow, sleep, and vitality.
• Earthing is a simple, profound lifestyle addition requiring no effort or dieting.
• Earthing is a GROSSLY overlooked factor in health and healing.
• Earthing should be recommended by health professionals to patients.
Core components of alternative, lifestyle, and preventive medicine include nutrition, exercise, stress management, and relationships. Missing from this formula is the practice of Earthing (also commonly referred to as grounding; in this paper, we will primarily use the term Earthing).
Earthing simply means reconnecting the conductive human body to the Earth's natural and subtle surface electric charge, an effortless lifestyle activity that systemically influences the basic bioelectrical function of the body. Doing so surprisingly stabilizes the physiology, reduces inflammation, pain, and stress, improves sleep, blood flow, and lymphatic/venous return to the heart, and produces greater well-being.
These are systemic, profound effects. People often report that after they start Earthing, they feel and look healthier and younger. Those with pain report less pain.1 Even mood improves.2
Earthing is easy to do and often achieves rapid results, particularly for individuals with chronic health disorders. ⬇️ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1550830719305476
Grounding – The universal anti-inflammatory remedy
Grounding or earthing could be the anti-inflammatory antidote for modern man. It is one of the greatest kept secrets when it comes to our health and aliveness, and only a small part of the scientific community really understands the concept. Once health professionals and others realize that grounding is especially important in preventing inflammatory illness, an incredible effect on public health will be realized. The breath of validation from previous published data and real-life testimonials is a testimony of the earth's dramatic impact on healing the human body. ⬇️ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10105021/

Training

29 M Pfitz 18/55 This was my first road marathon and my first planned training block I have ever done. My ultimate goal this year is to qualify for Boston so I can cross it off my bucket list and go back to trail running. I finally got a spot in the Chicago marathon this fall so I was planning on using this block/race as a stepping stone to get me ready for a 2:55 or below in Chicago. I had figured I could get into 3:10 shape for Cleveland, so that’s the goal time I set back in Jan of this year. I used that goal time for my pfitz training paces for the entire block. The training went well, and I adjusted the plan slightly to meet my needs. I work from home and can get most of my runs in during my lunch hour. With small kids at home, I did everything I could to not take away any family weekend fun. My schedule roughly turned into:
Monday – Workout
Tuesday - General aerobic
Wednesday – Med Long Run
Thursday – Recovery/Easy
Friday – Long run (don’t tell my boss)
We are usually very active on the weekends, but I would try to get an extra run on the treadmill for 30 minutes every Sunday as a “shake-out” for my Monday workout and a way to get a couple extra miles in. I was able to get into a groove and hit almost every workout on mileage and pace. I ran a half marathon week 12 at 1:31. A 10k time trial week 14 – 41m and then another 10k time trail week 16 where I managed a 39:45. My 18 mile LR with 14 mile MP was smashed. Really just felt like I nailed everything. Loved the plan, 10/10 would recommend. The book has so much great info in it as well.

Pre-race

My taper went well, Pfitz has a 3 week taper and based on some research (reading reddit threads, letsrun pages, talked to my crazy uncles, etc.) I decided to keep that 16th week at 50 miles instead of the 44 he recommends. Based on my races/time trials I was hoping I could manage a 3:05 but would still be happy with a 3:10. It being my first race, I knew that I could blow up and figured a 3:30 would be a “everything went horribly wrong” scenario. lol
So I live in Cleveland and as you might assume, our weather is total garbage from October til March. I had been watching the weather like a hawk, and saw it was going to be in the 60s w/90% humidity at the start line and would rise in the the 70s. I have run outside in 60+ degree weather maybe 5 times since Thanksgiving. At this point, I should have adjusted my target to a 3:15/3:20. I also tried to carb load. 750g of carbs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Featherstone nutrition has a great and easy guide on it. However, it sucked. Not sure if it helped at all, will probably just eat more but not kill myself trying to get to the carb levels. Went to the convention center Friday afternoon to pick up my bib.

Race

Morning of, woke up at 330. Coffee, bagel, Maurten 320. Gear check and packed my bags. Popped an Imodium on my way out the door as I typically do with my trail races. I got a parking spot in a garage 2 minutes from the start line. Got downtown around 530. Dropped off my bag at gear check and I found a nice place to sit and warm up. Got to meet Harvey Lewis and Sage Canaday, both really nice so that’s cool. I put 3:10 estimated finish time on the registration page, that’s good enough for Corral A at the CLE marathon so Corral A it is.
0-12
Went out with the 3:10 pace group and my plan was to stick with them until mile 18-20 then assess how I felt. The first three miles were about 10-15 seconds too quick. I knew in my head that it was not a great idea and that I should slow down, but I felt fine. I felt good. I felt strong. Everyone was chatting that it was probably a little too fast but the pacers didn’t yield. There is a pretty big hill at mile 7/8ish and I crushed it. Around mile 10 I started to feel a little warm, so I pulled off to the side, removed my bib from my tank top, put it on my tights, and took off my tank top. Every aid station I took a sip of water and dumped a cup on my head. I was running with a group of 5-10 people who really turned it on from miles 10-12. I loved their energy, so I stuck with them. We came to a split where half marathon runners went right, and marathon runners went left. They all went right. I went left. Uh-oh.
12-20
As I peel off left, I start to realize my mistake. These people I had been running with were kicking to their finish line. “Its okay, you are almost halfway and you are feeling strong. A little warm, but its flat from here until mile 20. Get to 20” Not 10 seconds later and I make a left turn onto a “flat bridge” that might as well have been Mt Denali. I laughed out loud, I knew I was screwed, and a wave of regrets flooded over me. I crossed 13.1 at ABOUT 1:31. I told myself that 3:20 was my new goal and I allowed myself to slow down and wanted to maintain about an 8min/mile the rest of the way. At mile 4,8, 12 I took a gel. I was planning on taking more at 15, 18, and 21. My gel at mile 15 didn’t go down well, and I developed an insane cramp below my rib cage. I had never dealt with that before so I was unsure if I was about to have a heart attack or if it was just GI distress. (That would be my last gel of the day.) I then passed a strong looking runner (he had a tracksmith tank and new alphaflys on) who had passed out on the ground and the crowd ran over to make sure he was ok. “oh shit, that would be me if I push it too much” As you could imagine, my mental strength was chipping away rapidly. I knew my family was at mile 17 so I held it together. Made it to them, dropped off my tank top, gave all the kids a kiss and high fived a couple dogs. I completed my trip thru Clevelands cute western neighborhoods and headed to the Shoreway.
20-finish
As I ran down the highway ramp to the Shoreway, this is where the wheels started to really fall off. It was hot. It was humid. I knew there was a huge hill ahead of me without an ounce of shade and the breeze was no where to be found. I said goodbye to 3:20 and just wanted to finish in one piece. This was an out and back portion of the race so I could see the strong runners at mile 24 coming back and they looked like they were melting. I took the shoreway out to lakewood, ran/walked between all the aid stations, had people doing yard work spray me with their hose, and focused on keeping my HR down so I could finish and not be one of the many people passed out on the Shoreway awaiting to be rescued by the EMS crew. It was only 70-75 degrees during the last 6 miles but I know everyone struggled immensely, it was really a suffer fest out there. Leg cramps, knee pain, and plantar fasciitis accompanied me for the last couple miles back into town but the crowd support was amazing and kept me going. Was ready to bust ass thru the finish line when I had to pull over to make way for an ambulance, how poetic. I hustled over the finish line with a smile on my face because you know what Andy glaze says. Smile or you are doing it wrong.

Post-race

Grabbed my medal, grabbed my checked bag, and found a shady bit of grass behind a tent and crashed. After a few minutes I was able to get up, find my family, and head home. Lessons learned.
  1. Should have adjusted my goal time. I knew it was going to be hot. I was literally complaining to my wife every day for 10 days about how hot it was going to be. I let the EGO win. Went out too fast for what it was and blew up. How many times have I read this exact scenario online and vowed it would never happen to me?
  2. I think I ate too much food in the morning which led to GI distress. The stomach cramp was debilitating.
  3. Road marathons are a totally different beast, and I need more practice with all the nuances.
Next steps:
  1. As upset as I am about the results, I am extremely fired up to get back to training. I am taking 3 weeks “off” and then going to start Pfitz 18/70. I will start the plan with workout paces around a 2:55 marathon pace but assess the training more closely as I go thru. I believe I am in 3:05-3:10 shape right now but need to be realistic on what I can accomplish in 20 weeks. A 2:50 is probably a safe BQ time but I would need a miracle.
  2. I have thought about getting a coach, but I am not sold on the idea yet. I think my key is bumping up mileage, which I feel ready for.
  3. Hoping to run a handful of races (10k-halfs) this summer to practice my Racing mindset. I am signed up for the River Run half in September, shooting for a 1:22. Cleveland has a ton of great stuff going on running wise.
  4. Plan on incorporating more weightlifting for my lower body and core. Currently at around 200 lbs. Would love to run Chicago at 195 or lower but not trying to crash diet.
Geatraining tool notes:
There are not a lot of race reports for the Cleveland Marathon, it is a great race and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spring marathon. I am happy to answer anyone’s questions about the race.
"Never regret thy fall, O Icarus of the fearless flight, For the greatest tragedy of them all, Is never to feel the burning light."

2024.05.20 16:02 Old_Foundation6949 Venison Meat

what do you guys think of Venison meat? I am needing to lower my cholesterol, with the amount of physical activity I achieve I do need a good amount of daily protein. I have cut out basically all red meat and consume mainly chicken for protein and some plant options.
I am curious about venison meat however, the brand Force of Nature produces packaged venison meat that seems to be a good option for someone on a low sat/cholesterol diet.
What do you all think?

2024.05.20 15:50 Toaster_In_A_Tub Cal in this chicken dish?

This French Restaurant has this amazing Cajun Chicken Dish, it's a double breasted pan roasted chicken with a beurre blanc sauce and diced tomato on top. I'm wondering how many cal y'all would estimate is in the chicken (not including the fries and salad in the pic) I order this dish all the time cause it's so good and unfortunately the restaurant has no nutrition info, and I usually guesstimate but I order it so often I was hoping y'all could give me your guesses so I can be more accurate.

2024.05.20 13:20 hailthesaint This course/project is going to be the death of me

I've been doing overnight feedings on two-week-old kittens for a week and barely been sleeping. We were assigned an end-of-module project the day we rescued the babies, which is a SIX PAGE project over nutrition. Said project requires us to go to the store and gather info about various food items, but because I'm only awake overnight when stores are closed, I'm having to find a workaround with both a grocery app and a lot of looking stuff up. I've been busy trying to sleep and keep the kittens alive, so I only started it on Saturday,
I'm so tired my eyes are crossing and I still have the 8 most lengthy/difficult questions left. The project is due in 12 hours. I have another feeding session in 2 1/2 hours, and they take almost two hours to eat because they're fussy and teething. I might have to do the feeding after that too, if my help isn't back from an appointment by then. I still have to find some time to sleep before class.
Please assure me this is all worth it because I am McFucking Losing It.

2024.05.20 12:03 leelovesbikestoo Fast food and 8yo with ADHD

My 8yo has just all but received a diagnosis of ADHD, with some suspected ASD traits, and also struggles with sensory processing disorder, anxiety, toileting problems, and emotional dysregulation.
We try to have a nutritional, balanced diet where we can like most families, as well as supplements (magnesium, Omega 3 oil, zero THC CBD gummies) but like most 8yo's she loves fast food - McDonald's, Domino's, KFC etc. We save these for a treat every month or 2 as we don't want to deny her these altogether - she sometimes goes with friends and we recognise the importance to her of spending time with friends at this tricky age.
We know colourings, sweeteners and flavourings can hugely affect her state of mind, but in terms of fast food are there any particular outlets to avoid?
(some background info: We've been investigating and helping her since around age 2. It's a long story but although the psychiatrist is 95% sure she suffers with ADHD after being assessed at a private clinic we may not get a prescription for medication that she clearly needs. She is on the CAMHS waiting list in Scotland, but we may be 2 years away from an appointment. We have done a great job in helping her understand her challenges, creating strategies, and helping her 'fit in' and lead as 'normal' a life she can while still acknowledging her challenges - she's very aware of being 'different' and is ashamed of her differences quite often. Speech marks used as we don't want her to be 'normal' or 'fit in' or be like her friends - we want her to be proud of her differences!)
