2024.05.21 07:05 MileHighGaymer90 Looking for suggestions on a Queer Friendly, Affordable place to live with good public transit or Walkability

First, sorry about randomly linking to google. Guessing it's the mobile app being annoying, but it won't let me post without adding a link šŸ˜©
Moved from Denver hastily almost two years ago. As much as I'd love to go back to the metro, it isn't really affordable to live alone. I'm considering using roommate groups/services to go back, but I'd also like to keep my options open.
Since I lived in the Denver metro so long, I do not have a car or license, and honestly don't want to get one. I have no problem walking a bit between bus/train stops etc to get where I want to go, or paying for an UbeLyft/Cab on the rare occasion I want to have a late night out.
I work remotely, but only gross about 45-50k a year. I know I should probably be looking to move up the corporate ladder or get a better paying career, but I'm comfortable.
Order of importance is how I listed it in the title. Looking for a queer (and preferably nuerodivergent friendly) area, affordable, and with good public transit or high Walkability.
Thanks in advanced for your time!

2024.05.21 05:25 Violet8171 What do I do?

I took my 2008 Mini Cooper,to a mechanic shop for a transmission repair. A few weeks later, I picked my vehicle and noticed my vehicle was making a new noise and drove differently. I immediately reached out to the business to explain my concerns, at which time I was told that it was probably my ā€œclutch stopperā€ as it was never put on due to it being an aftermarket item. This explanation didnā€™t sound right so I began questioning the work that had recently been done by you guys and was told, ā€œthe job was done correctlyā€.
Two months later, my car started running hot. Thinking I needed to have my coolant flushed, I had Premier Oil service flush the coolant. Unfortunately, this did not resolve my issue.
I then took my car to another repair shop. Where they discovered that because of previous work done on my transmission, the bolts were sticking out of the bell housing and were cross threaded causing damage to the housing unit allowing coolant to leak. The damage was irreversible, and the whole thermostat housing needed to be replaced and due to the vehicle running hot,it damaged the head gasket, which now needs to be replaced too.
It was past the 3 months warranty when I had emailed the repair shop and so they said they would be going by the warranty and not covering the repair or doing the repair themselves. I no longer have the paperwork of the original shop as it had been destroyed. Do I have any ground this take legal action and if so how do I do this. If I canā€™t take legal action can I post this in craigslist for a mechanics fixer upper?

2024.05.21 03:34 ScaryObjective Tuning shop recommendations in Colorado Springs CO

Purchasing a very low miles(25k) 2011 STi next month from a good friend. Heā€™s active duty military and has been stationed over seas most of the past 13 years. This car was his baby but heā€™s decided to sell it vs letting it continue to sit in storage at his dadā€™s house.
My question is does anyone have a recommendation for a good tune shop in Colorado Springs or Denver that we can see how this car is holding up (few pulls on the dyno) and if thereā€™s any parts they recommend replacing after such low usage for 13+ years. Itā€™s 100% stock besides a CF hood and a SPT intake he got from the dealership when it was purchased new.

So me and my friends (7 of us) need to book a car for our road trip and aren't sure on which car to rent out to drive in Denver to the Rocky Mountains in the first week of June.
Would a minivan work on the steep slopes or should we opt for a 7 seater SUV.
We have heard of some minivans facing transmission issues of slopy roads.
Please us out advice would be much appreciated.

2024.05.21 03:27 SchLeP_ I need a car before my job starts in 2 months. What are my options and odds for financing?

tl;dr - I don't have a car. My new job starts in two months and is a 45+ minute drive. Besides credit union, what other options for getting an auto loan for a car? How bad are my chances of getting approved? And could I refinance later, after the job starts?
Since the CU said no, what other options do I have that aren't going to hurt too much? I've never bought a car from anywhere but Craigslist (something I won't do again) so I'm clueless about how to proceed and afraid none will be willing to approve a loan.
Also, assuming I get a loan with pretty bad interest, would I be able to refinance some time after my job started?

Just replaced my spark plugs and the car passed the compression test. When I disconnect the battery and reset the computer the car stops misfiring. Eventually Iā€™ll feel the misfire will start back up and the code will repopulate. Guessing this is some type of computer issue? Also I live near Denver, CO at altitude and the car is near 150k miles. Could be a factor.

2024.05.21 00:52 achsoScheisse how do they check the RTD cards/tickets?

im moving in with my sister in denver in a couple months, we have 1 car so i'll probably be taking the bus & train mainly.
she has a free rides bus card thing as she's a student at the university, we look rlly similar like for most of my life everyone thought we were twins. (im also a girl ig i should say) she suggested i could just use her card as she never has. (used it on the bus etc)
but i was wondering if anyone knows how they check the bus cards? is it just they look at the picture like licenses or do i have to show separate id to verify name & such? (because then it wouldn't work yk)

2024.05.20 23:43 HotDaddyProject 1 week SAVR post-op report

Underwent SAVR to get an Inspiris Resilia valve one week ago. Couldnā€™t have asked for a better experience or outcome. Some highlights:
Day 1 - surgery + ICU
Only scary thing of the entire day was getting my arterial catheter placed in my wrist. Made me super nauseous and anxious, but that was quickly resolved with a shot of Versed. I went into the OR very relaxed.
Surgery went very smoothly. My aortic root was within normal range and my arteries were clear, so this was a simple valve replacement with no other complications. I was extubated in the OR and woke up in the ICU in the next hour. Evidently, I was cracking jokes and asked my ICU nurse if they replaced my heart with a baked potato (I was in a Denver hospital, so of course it would be a South Park joke.)
The ICU nurses were super attentive to getting my pain under control and keeping it under control. I was given Tylenol and Oxycodone as my base medicines, with on-demand doses of Dilaudid and Toradol. They checked me at least every hour, so I didnā€™t really get any sleep, except for the occasional Dilaudid hit knocking me out. Toradol did an amazing job of blunting the internal pain, which they said was mostly from the chest drain.
Day 2 - ICU + move to cardiac floor
Cardiac Rehab came first thing that morning with the fanciest walker Iā€™ve ever seen. It had places for my chest drain suction box, Foley catheter bag, oxygen tank, and battery-powered oxygen sensor. The walk was a bit of a challenge, but I made it almost to the end of the hall and back.
I was returned and set in my chair and they started removing everything from my bed to start getting the room ready for the next patient. My move was delayed due to some late discharges, so I asked to be put back in bed, they were happy to oblige.
I was finally moved into my room and weighed in. I was expecting to weigh less, but had gained 14 POUNDS (!!!) since day 1. Evidently, this is entirely normal, and comes from the amount of fluid they pump into you from surgery, plus your weaker heart in its immediate post-op state. I was started on Lasix and Potassium to get all that extra water out of me.
Towards the end of the day, I finally got my room in the cardiac main floor, and met a nice nurse and CNA that would be my nurses for the next two nights. They were diligent about staying on top of my Tylenol and Oxycodone, and I did not need any more Dilaudid or Toradol.
Since I only needed oral medication every four hours, I got a really good night of sleep.
Day 3 - removal of chest things etc.
In the late morning, they announced they were going to pull my pacing wires and chest drain. I was terrified of the pain and they kept reassuring me it wouldnā€™t be too bad. They pulled the pacing wire, which hurt and tickled a little because the end of it had a coiled wire, much like the spring youā€™d see in a ball point pen, and that spring comes out like a corkscrew and you do feel it.
They had me wait for 45 minutes and came back to do the chest drain. The nurse had me practice deep breaths and holding my breath, then took out the drain. To my surprise, it did not hurt as bad as I expected, it came out quickly, and I felt instant relief afterwards. I was able to take deeper breaths and within hours, I was out in the hall without a walker, only with my PT nurseā€™s hand on a chest belt that had my sternum pillow cinched tight.
Day 4 - feeling really good
Iā€™m walking the halls without a walker and no assistance. My surgeon came to see me and we started talking as I walked back to my room. He informed me that everything went well, but they saw some periodic arrhythmia that they might need to shock or send me home with meds, possibly with an extra night stay.
The nicest CNA named Daysi ā€” the abuela everyone wishes they had ā€” assists me in taking my first shower, which felt amazing. I have no restrictions with my incision, which is held together with glue. It is much shorter than I expected, not visible at all through the top of my gown or a v-neck shirt.
Day 5 - going home
Iā€™m walking the halls and run into my surgeonā€™s PA, who tells me Iā€™m cleared for release and heā€™ll come talk to me in a bit. Surgeon comes by and says my heart rhythm is good, so Iā€™m not only going home without any extra meds, Iā€™m cleared to have a daily cup of regular coffee and chocolate again if I want.
Iā€™m all packed and being wheeled out right after lunch. It surprises me how easy it is to get into the car.
Days 6-7 - improving at home
Iā€™m finding stairs to be relatively easy. By day 7, itā€™s actually easier for me to climb stairs than immediately before surgery. Iā€™ve cut my Oxycodone dose in half and will walk a little over a mile, split over 4 short walks outside today. Took my first shower by myself, made my own breakfast and lunch, even folded some laundry.
I am so grateful for my surgeon Jess Joymon and the entire care team at St Joseph Hospital in Denver. I could not have asked for a better outcome or care throughout the process, so much so that Iā€™m feeling really good about my decision to get a tissue valve at age 57. Iā€™m not all that scared of doing this again if/when the tissue valve needs to be replaced.

2024.05.20 22:29 CapitalistCow Need help finding VW Golf alternatives... Or talk me into another Golf

Hey yall, I'm looking for a replacement for my 2012 Golf TDI. It was a great car when I first got it around 50k miles, but its now at 98k and has had a LOT of expensive issues. Had a full fuel system replacement because of metal shards, and my transmission is about to drop out any day now. Was recently in an accident (not at fault), which resulted in a lot of front end damage, as well as damage to my steering system and alloys. Insurance refused to total the car, did not take into account the existing mechanical issues and warning lights in their evaluation, and did the bare minimum to get it drivable again. It looks almost brand new on the outside, but almost certainly has frame damage, bent wheels, and busted CVs. The accident also exacerbated the transmission issues. Pre-accident the car was evaluated at $2500, but they chose to do $5000 in body repairs instead of totaling it. So now I'm stuck in what my partner lovingly refers to as "the deathtrap".
Long story short, I need a new car asap. My budget is $17,000 or less, or <$350/mo. Used vehicles only. I've been spoiled by the golf in terms of how fun it is relative to upfront cost, but I've also been burned by the persistent issues I've had with it and the resulting expensive repairs. Even an oil change for these things is cost-prohibitive at times. Having a fast car isn't so important to me, but I do a lot of driving and would like something commuter-oriented that's also fun and responsive. I would love to be talked into another golf, but as it stands I'm nervous its just going to end up being another cash-hole.
I am ONLY interested in hatchbacks (hatchback coups are okay too) since I need the hauling space and think most sedans are ugly as sin. I also do not want a larger car since New Orleans streets are often very narrow. That being said, I would also prefer something that isn't tiny, as drivers here are insane and the size/weight of the golf really helped me come out of that recent accident with minimal damage to my person/car considering the severity of the collision. Could have and would have been a lot worse if I was in a smaller car.
My priorities in order of importance are: Price (including cost to maintain), fun, looks, MPG, features.
The brands I'm interested in are: VW, Mazda (drive nice, but hate the interiors, especially from 2014-2016), Honda, and maybe Toyota (don't like how they look but they drive okay, not interested in the prius)
I've spoken to one of my car enthusiast friends about this and he just keeps telling me to buy a GTI or any number of old sports cars off craigslist. He says I need to "pick a team" and if I don't want to pony up for something actually fast I should just buy a Prius instead. I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but is it unreasonable for me to want something fun, affordable, and fairly attractive? He also mentioned that buying a used TSI or GTI is a bad idea because of carbon buildup, but I feel like he's blowing that out of proportion.
Models I'm interested in are: Golfs (any model/year), Mazda3(pre 2014, or post 2016), Honda CRZ (no back seats sucks, but I love the look), Honda fit (too small but I heard its fun), Corolla Hatch (ugly, but I test drove one and it was more fun than the mazda)
Thanks!

2024.05.20 21:52 Ronsbane what's Indiana like?

I'm a Data Analyst that was looking to move to either Indianapolis, Denver, Cincinnati, Philly or Pittsburgh (remote job); eventually I decided on settling in Indianapolis
salary: 350k total (bonus included)
obviously I did my own personal research but I would like to hear the opinion of people that live there
what drew me to Indianapolis: - parks - clean(ish) city (better than Cincy Pittsburgh or Philly) - I love snow and cold weather (just not Minneapolis cold) - big sports and car guy - nature (ik people will laugh at this one but Indiana is underrated; the open sky, trees, corn... it has charm and it's less intimidating than mountains; also people love hilly cities till they need to walk/cycle lol) - purchasing power - there's no crazy population growth like in DenveSLC/Nashville...
anyway yeah I would love to buy a house (I have 500k saved (down payment) (sold the family house back home (not in the US))
now I'm not looking for financial advice or anything just wanted to hear your opinion about life in Indy, fun things to do, future outlook of the place, are you happy there... also what are the best places to purchase a house in? Zionsville, Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville and Bargersville (my favorite but I heard the northern suburbs are better)

2024.05.20 21:44 Careful-Neat8954 Parking

Iā€™m a sophomore located on the hill/central campus and need parking for next year. Iā€™m willing to commute/take the busses for it. Since Iā€™m a sophomore I canā€™t get the orange pass thatā€™s only 71$ annually right? So I have to get the ā€œstorageā€ tier thatā€™s 240$ for parking for the whole year? Am I understanding that right?. Also is there a deadline to get the annual parking pass? It seems like going annual is def the way over monthly, and ā€œstorageā€ would be the cheapest membership for me right?
I also thought about going on like Craigslist or Facebook marketplace to find a spot but Iā€™m guessing that that would probably exceed 240 for the school year?
Lastly Iā€™m down to park on free residential streets and what not that other students park on. Iā€™m just wondering how viable this is? Do the cops ever tow these students? Iā€™m willing to take the bus to my car consistently to and back in order to prevent it to get towed. Just obviously wondering what these locations are? And if you have to move between them consistently or if you just stay at/near one most of the school year?
Thank you. Any information is helpful it doesnā€™t have to be an all encompassing response.

2024.05.20 21:38 connorhelsel ABRP isnā€™t accurate at all, if youā€™re used to it fine but for those who are new to electric cars, this is a warning coming from someone new as well that itā€™s awful.

I have a 23 AWD Pro S. ABRP was recommended to me by not only this subreddit but some friends and family with EVs. Mostly, those were people with less range than the ID 4 and stated it was very nice for large elevation change routes or ones with a factor that could change the range a lot, such as temperature because it was so conservative. So, I decided to use it for my first ever long drive with the car going from Denver to Moab, UT with my partner. ABRP stated we would get to Glenwood Springs with 5% about 165 miles away starting at 100%, and that Rifle, CO was way too far, about 190 miles away. I wanted to make it to Rifle because then weā€™d only need to charge once to make it to Moab and the charger was cheaper. I knew mountains and the cold would make the range worse, but decided to go with my gut that ABRP was way off and Iā€™d make it. And I was right, made it to Rifle with 25% still remaining, so could have gone all the way to Grand Junction if I wanted. I have another trip coming up where the first leg is 230 miles on flat terrain, and with ABRP saying I canā€™t make it and thinking I can, Iā€™m going to trust my gut more than this app. If you want to make it to your charging stops with plenty of charge left and stop way more than necessary, use this app. Otherwise, just learn from experience and be cautious the first couple times, because your gut will be more reliable. Iā€™d rather pull in with around 10% to get quick charging speeds, and with how conservative ABRP is that will never happen, itā€™ll be more like 40-50%.

2024.05.20 21:21 Less_Guava5720 Repairs worth it?

Repairs worth it?
Advise appreciated! I bought this 2005 Mazda3 sport from the original owner, 92k miles, $4100 dollars. Craigslist purchase so I was in a rush to say yes.
I honestly donā€™t think they were aware of how much maintenance the car needed, but Iā€™ve gotten several quotes back. I donā€™t think I can justify investing this much into the car even though I love it and the interior and exterior are very clean for its age.
One quote from Mazda for 5 thousand and another from a local totaling 2.5 grand in work on the brakes and suspension and an additional 2.2 in maintenance for transmission fluids, coolant, power steering fluid, headlight restoration, etc.
To top it all off, thereā€™s a small Engine oil leak from the rear main seal.
Any thoughts? Did I buy a lemon or did I simply think I could get away with only spending $4k on a car? šŸ˜

2024.05.20 21:14 Wylie_the_Wizard RV Life in Denver, CO?

So my partner wants us to move into an RV with her 2 kids for an undefined period of time, beginning this summer. While my thoughts/feelings on this are better suited for a different sub, I wanted to get input from this community on a few questions. What price range could we anticipate for lot rent (~40' length)? We have multiple vehicles for our daily drivers, are there any parks that allow multiple additional cars? Which areas of the greater Denver area to avoid from a crime/safety standpoint?
I have lived in a camper before, working on the road, and I've even lived out of my van. What else should we know before taking the dive, and what are some red flags we should be aware of?
Thanks!

2024.05.20 18:37 shombie2190 The love of my life and I broke up and I was devastated...until I learned about all his Craigslist hook ups while we were together.

My (34f) and my boyfriend (35m) were together for a year and a half. Not the most perfect relationship, we certainly had our problems. But when it was good, it was bliss. Absolute paradise. I'd never felt so in love in my entire life. He was my dream man. We'd have our fights but always make up. Looking back now I'm realizing that after fights he'd withhold affection and until I was so starved for it, I'd apologize. Our last blow up fight led to us breaking up for good. I was so sad and so angry I didn't know how to cope. Then on Saturday I did something I'm not proud of... I found his old phone in my car, charged it, and guessed the pass code as his birthday and I was right. There, I saw all the old messages still stored on the device. He was soliciting women off of Craigslist to engage his fetishes...fetishes I would have happily done for free. He had albums organized by women's names of nudes....some women we knew. I matched up the dates and found that when he was working over time he was actually hooking up with Craigslist girls.
He's blocked me, and only unblocks me to tell me when he'll get his stuff, then block me again. So he's absolutely refusing to acknowledge any of this. I'm so angry and so hurt. This was going on the entire time. Multiple women. I now have to pay $210 for an STD test. He's coming for the rest of his stuff today. I know I'm being petty but I put it all in a garbage can which I'm leaving on my driveway. I wish I could be more petty and I just want to burn his life down. I've been tempted to send these messages I saw to his mother. I've been crying and puking non stop since this all happened.

2024.05.20 18:28 kyriousities Uber rating is low and I donā€™t get it

I have been trying to increase my score, but I have no idea how. When I lived in the DC area, my rating was 4.93. I moved to Denver a couple years ago and my rating has steadily dropped to 4.86.
I donā€™t take Ubers often, but when I do itā€™s to and from the airport. Iā€™m always at the meeting point on time, I say hi and ask how theyā€™re doing, I stay quiet in the car or make small talk if thereā€™s a talkative driver, always say thank you and get home safe when I leave, and tip for each ride.
There have been many uncomfortable conversations where the driver asks how much my ride was and then goes on to complain about how low it is, how awful Uber pays for the gas theyā€™re putting in, gets frustrated, etc. and Iā€™m always empathetic to the situation. This has happened nearly every time Iā€™ve had an Uber ride. Is this something drivers normally do?
I want to increase my score because Iā€™m having a harder time getting Ubers now. My boyfriend gets Ubers almost instantly every time (his rating is 4.94) and we have the same level of politeness when we ride in Ubers. What can I do? Is there a way for me to see the ratings drivers are giving me?

2024.05.20 17:04 descent87 Route recommendations for drive from Mizzoula, MT to Denver, CO

Looking for some scenic travel advice from locals or long-distance road trippers who have made a similar trek. My wife and I will be spending a week with an old friend in the Mizzoula/Kalispell area this summer. Since neither of us have ever been in this part of the country, we decided to extend the trip by another week or so. We were thinking of keeping our group rental car and making the drive from the Mizzoula area all the way down to Denver before taking a flight back home. We'd be spending a few days in Denver as well, so ideally we want to make this drive in 4 days, max 5. Distance-wise it seems more than achievable, but I was wondering if a few people could offer their thoughts on which path might offer the best bang for your buck, where you could see some amazing sights and make some easy detours for some National Parks, etc.
Studying the map only, I see 3 general options:
  1. Drive down to Bozeman and then through Yellowstone before continuing on smaller highways to Cheyenne and then Denver.
  2. Take I-90 out to Blackhills/Mt Rushmore area and then work down through Wyoming and then to Denver.
  3. Make the drive down 1-15 and then either go to I-80 or I-70 and trek on towards Denver.
I see tons of potential sights to see and beautiful views on the map, but being absolutely clueless about this part of the country (I have traveled pretty much every where else in the US except for the Dakotas/Utah/Idoho/Colordo/Wyoming region), I can't really conceptualize what things are going to look like and what might be the best option for a drive like this.
Would appreciate hearing thoughts from a few folks on what they would do if they had this opportunity or any pitfalls/helpful tips I should be aware of. For example, I don't have a good sense of the remoteness of some of these stretches of road. If I am not careful will I run into a "no gas stations for 2 hours"-type issues?
Thanks so much.
