Help with relational properties?
Hi everyone. I currently have a database that has all the relevant information for subjects in a study I'm conducting for my PhD. However, I have some data that is not easily inserted into a property column that I'm currently storing as pages within a given row. For example, I have a subject called GRB006 and that subject is doing an experiment every day. For every day, I have an image with summary statistics for how the subject performed in the experiment as well as notes from that day's experiment. I would like for these pages to be accesible as properties in the main database. I think relations might be the way to go but I'm not too sure how to structure them. I've attached images here of how things look like. I would appreciate any suggestions!

2024.05.21 23:54 GroundbreakingBus284 I 32m need help writing a letter about my emotional state to my fiancée 30f how does this sound?

I don't feel like I can start a conversation about how I feel, every time I do, I end up feeling worse, I don't feel my emotional or physical needs are met at all, I genuinely feel like you don't desire me at all, I have never felt so unattractive, I've tried doing more, I've tried dates, it's become very clear we are not sexually compatible at all, the last few times we have had sex it clear you were only doing it for the sake of getting me off your back, sex is important to me, and I don't feel like I can explore that side of myself with you, Infact I've spent the last 3 years trying to suppress that part of myself because you clearly don't enjoy that with me, and I believe you did before you were with me.
I feel like it don't matter what I try and do it's not enough, you literally complained and you I'm so sick of feeling this way, you Litterally complained I call you hot and that to generic, I would love it if you called me hot, the only time you want to speak to me is when I said I can't really mentally manage it.
I've never felt as alone as I do right now, I just want to be loved, cared for and adored, I wanna be with the women I proposed to
Side note we do have a 20 month baby toghether and live in a shared home.

2024.05.21 23:50 AdFew7579 Collaborative Virtual Reality Tarot Experience

Hello, first-time poster here but long-time reader of this community. (Also, posted this to the Tarot community. Hopefully, doing this isn't considered spam. Just excited to share.)
I am a 40-year student of Tarot and a college professor in videogame development and animation. I have created a free, multi-user virtual reality experience called Tarot Workshop for collaborating on Tarot readings and general Tarot education/discussion.
I came up with this idea after I had a remote reading done over Zoom and couldn't see the full spread and was never sent a complete and clear picture of the full spread--something that happens naturally in an in-person reading. The end goal of the virtual reality app is to make remote reading a better experience.
Currently, the in-headset experience is basic. You can draw cards in 3D, add them to a 3D spread, and show and hide card meanings in a shared space where you and another person can chat via 3D avatars. Upcoming features are to customize card meanings/images and save/ load spreads. These new features require more development, so I'd like to gauge interest and see if folks would find something like this useful before adding more features. I want to create a free and useful resource for the Tarot community, and your genuine feedback on how useful this tool is before publishing it to a wider audience is important.
So, if this sounds interesting, you have a VR headset and a fast internet connection, and you would like to take it for a spin, please PM for the password/link to the application and instructions on connecting.
Note, at the moment, the app requires a Windows PC tethered to a headset such as a Meta Quest.

2024.05.21 23:50 FlowPhilosophy Had to threaten legal action to get an apartment complex to return my deposit - and I didn't even live there!

A while back I was interested in moving to a slightly bigger apartment. Found a place nearby at a complex and toured.
I thought it was fine, then they told me I had to pay the $300 security deposit before looking at the lease. I thought that was weird but I was (at the time) very confident I wanted the apartment. So I paid the security deposit then looked at the lease. I made extra sure to note that this was the SECURITY deposit, and not a housing deposit, which I had already paid. It was like $100.
The lease had a few red flags I won't get into, but it also had the wrong unit number and was on the first floor instead of the second like I wanted. I tried emailing, no response. I tried calling, never got through. So I took the time to drive out there just so they could clarify. They basically told me they could write up a new lease real quick with the correct unit and the new rent. But the new rent was about $100 extra.
At that point I was pretty mad and I didn't want to pay an extra $1200 a year. So I told them no thanks, I won't be signing.
Later that day I emailed them and said yo give me my security desposit back, but I understood I'd lose the housing deposit. And they emailed me back basically saying the security deposit was not refundable "because I cancelled."
At this point I was BIG mad. So I emailed back citing my state's laws regarding security deposits and how they are to be used. Such as how they're held in escrow, are refundable based on certain conditions and all that. No response for a week.
After that week I printed out a letter threatening a lawsuit in small claims in 14 days if they don't return my security deposit. Mailed it to their office after double checking the mailing address.
Two weeks later I still had no response. I then filed a complaint with the state attorney generals office and then I sent one last email to them saying I would file suit the next morning. I finally got a response a few hours later and they said they'd mail me a check. I got it in the mail about two days later.
Why all that trouble just to return a security deposit? Are they just incompetent or is it malicious? It's silly that I have to threaten legal action just to get MY OWN money back.
TLDR: Apartment complex made me pay the security deposit before signing the lease, I said whatever and paid it, then I changed my mind and had to threaten a lawsuit to get the deposit back.

2024.05.21 23:50 darkPrince010 [OC] Humanity, the Happy Hosts

Data-Miner Gego stared at the results of the analysis, still in disbelief that this wild theory had borne fruit and stood up to scrutiny again and again. But now, here before him in data as clear as even the youngest apprentice could see, was evidence, clear and unshakable:
Humans were not what they promised themselves to be.
Feeling slightly nauseous with anxiety, he keyed in a request to meet with the diplomat’s office as soon as possible.
As the diplomat looked over his latest treaty proposal, there was a faint sound of horns in harmonious blaring, signifying someone had requested permission to enter. Glad for any distraction from the monotonous paperwork, he activated the intercom, saying “You are recognized and accepted. Please enter.”
As the crouched and scrabbling shape stepped into the doorway, diplomat Hale-he mused again how interesting it would be if the if their ancestors could have heard such a magnificent call for a mere diplomat. Previously, such a grand instrumentation would have been reserved for a high chieftain or king, and yet here was Hale-he, a diplomat to be sure, but certainly no ruler of any stripe, heralded by a song that would bring envy even to high lords and minor rulers in ages past.
The individual sat before him, and Hale-he could tell by their coloration and the shape of their antenna they were a scientist or engineer, someone likely far more familiar with numbers than he was. Hale-he, while now taking on the rich purple hues of a diplomat, had the underlying color of brilliant crimson, a mark of his near-decade of study as a historical scholar and graduate before his appointment into diplomacy.
“What do you have for me? Gego, I believe?”
The other individual nodded, crossing his pinchers in a sign of deference and respect. “I am sorry to disturb your appointment, but I have important information regarding humans.”
“Ah yes, humans,” said Hale-he, feeling a degree of relaxation and comfort at the mention of the gregarious and affable people.
Humans had taken quite some time in venturing out to the stars, but their planet was located such that a number of major trade routes passed quite near to their system. Several species had reported contact with them before humans had in turn reached out and started to make contact of their own. But from all reports, they were kind, clever, and selfless to a fault, with no recent instances of conflict despite a very violent early history. They were renowned for having an impeccable record of interspecies relations.
“I'm actually in the process of framing a new trade treaty with some of their inner-system human colonies. I believe the primary planet in question is called Mars, but they also have gas refineries and extractors above their gas giants, and several mining operations set up on a number of moons and their asteroid belt.”
“Yes, I have seen the newscast about how much this treaty is expected to aid both species,” said Gego. There was an odd note of apprehension Hale-he could detect in their chittering voice. “There is some invaluable context that I believe needs to be put to light.”
“Context? What do you mean, ‘context?’”
“Well, you are aware that we, the Civicor, first met humanity when a trade ship fell off course and crashed upon Earth?”
“It is a well-known accident. Some manner of navigational mishap; Thankfully, our propulsion systems are far more accurate today.”
“This is true, but are you also aware the Bayons have a remarkably-similar story related to their first contact with humanity as well? A military scout vessel, intending to regroup with the bulk of their fleet and engaging the Dendite menace, and they were likewise drawn off course, spiraling to crash onto Earth as well.”
“I remember the stories that time hypothesized that it was Dendite sabotage, even though it was unlikely for such a minor and inconsequential vessel,” said Hale-he. “Other than that, I’m unfortunately not familiar with their own reports on it.”
“But our two species are but a few from over a dozen first-contact reports with humanity. All stemming from engine failures, navigation failures, and crashes or forced landings of ships that lost control and arrived on Earth.”
“Well,” said the diplomat, starting to see the shape of the data-miner’s point, “Warpspace travel.has always been an inexact science at times, and was even less accurate decades ago. It's possible you are reading too much into a handful of coincidences.”
The data-miner rubbed their eyestalks, feeling exhaustion creeping in for how much frantic effort they had put in over the past three-day cycle. “Yes, but to borrow an idiom for the humans, ‘Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times is a pattern,’ let alone a solid dozen instances within barely a fifty-year timespan. Even the most heavily-trafficked routes past the most dense or erratic planetoids have only achieved a third of that number.”
“You're asking me to disrupt peaceful and productive diplomatic ties with humans by suggesting they were responsible for these instances. Are you truly suggesting that this was intentional from humanity's part?”
“I am.”
“That may be, but we will require more proof than mere happenstance, unlikely though it may be.”
“I have additional data as well.” Gego was the most proud of this next part, and he carefully pulled up the diagrams and charting maps. A vibrant animation appeared onscreen of what appeared to be a rainbow-colored and spiked disc, surging and shaking on the screen. “This is the analysis of the gravitational field irregularities within a quarter of a solar year of Earth's primary star.”
The diplomat looked nonplussed at the diagram. “I would assume the fluctuations here are not ideal?”
“No indeed. They could be likened to a reef within a shallow sea, permitting transit in the calm regions but damaging and disrupting ships passing through a rough space. I have reached out to several of the shipping guilds for more details, but initial reports back support this theory, with several commenting that the route passing near to Earth is highly undesirable amongst experienced pilots due to the rough effects it has on engine stability and wear and tear.”
The diplomat looked over the diagram further before attempting to wave it away dismissively. “But who’s to say that this isn't a natural phenomena of Earth’s system? There are many regions of space that are disruptive or dangerous to travel through in warpspace, so what would make Earth's patch of turbulence unique?”
“The fact that they can turn it on and off at will.”
The diplomat coughed violently as the surprise dislodged the piece of fruit pulp he was eating out of his primary digestion sack and instead into the top of his gas exchange organ. “What in the three spheres do you mean they can turn it off?”
Gego grimaced this time as he keyed in some commands to the report. This time the disc figure that was pulled was much grainier and blocky, fine measurements now showing as wide swaths. “This was reverse-calculated from a series of gravimetric scans done across that entire arm of the galaxy.”
Even with the poor resolution, the diplomat could still see that this was a wildly chaotic and dangerous gravitational field. “It looks the same.”
The data-miner nodded. “Yes, but watch here: It's hard to tell, but this readout is actually playing in reverse, stepping backwards through time. We're about to hit 76 years ago.”
“What's so important about 76-” The diplomat cut off, words caught like fruit pulp in his throat as the image abruptly stilled. The disc depicting the gravitational field was now still and smooth as a windless pond.
“So it just started one day?”
“Indeed, Diplomat Hale-he. And furthermore, this beginning of the turbulence was a mere month before the first vessel lost controlI and was forced to make an emergency landing on Earth.”
The possibilities were rapidly narrowing, but Hale-he was still in favor of exploring whatever possible shred he could find to avoid confronting the dawning reality about humans.
“Well, while things of this nature are highly irregular, I presume, I'm still not convinced that this shows they can activate it at will.”
“I know, Gego said, “Which is why I wanted to show you that data before I show you this.”
The gravitational field display became the ragged tumultuous ocean of currents and surges, and this time in the higher detail that told Hale-he this was more recent readings. “I'm sure you saw the announcements a fortnight ago that humanity had tested their first faster than light engine they had made themselves, rather than trading for, and successfully made a jaunt out to the furthest planetoid in their star system and back without incident?”
“Yes?” the diplomat said cautiously.
“I received this data from a colleague, who was concerned there may have been an instrument malfunction to produce such data as I’m about to show you. She checked and validated it herself. It was fully accurate and reliable, which makes it all the more troubling. I don't think she realized the cause of what she was seeing, but unfortunately the timing of it adds up too perfectly.”
The data-miner continued quietly recalling “I believe at this point we're at 30 seconds to launch the human’s test flight.”
Hale-he let out an involuntary gasp of breath as the gravity field abruptly stilled again, perfectly smooth simultaneously across the entire spread of it.
Grimly, the data-miner said “Here we had the jump,” and after a short pause continued “-and the return.” A few seconds later and the field abruptly resumed its turbulence.
The diplomat was still in shock, staring at the gravimetric readout, when Gego said “That's also not the most concerning part, either. This was supposed to be humanity's first faster-than-light capability of their own they were testing here; Isn't that right?”
“Well of course,” replied Hale-he. “It was on all the new stations. A great achievement for a species that had been slow to achieve that milestone.”
“I would remind you then that the readout here is half a light-year in diameter.”
The diplomat scrunched his eyestalks in confused concentration, trying to understand what the other alien was implying, when suddenly it hit him. “Yet they were able to disrupt such a large region simultaneously, and stop it equally quickly?”
Gego nodded. “Whatever means they have at causing such a disruption is certainly faster-than-light, and immensely wide-ranging. If it was slower and confined to a small area, I might have some theories as to how it could be accomplished, but this size, this scale and the speed? I have no idea. It is beyond anything our sciences and technology can produce, or that of any other known species.”
The diplomat sat back, stunned. “By the Spheres.” He glanced up at Gego. “What do you propose we do with this information?”
The data-miner waved an arm. “Perhaps we can get to the bottom of this: Go to humanity with the information we have. Tell them we want the secrets of this technology and the power sources that feed it, as it far eclipses anything we can currently achieve. Tell them that we will expose these findings to the rest of the space-faring civilizations of the galaxy if they continue to hold back.”
The diplomat’s eyes widened, before after a long moment he said “I see. Well, I still need to get to my duties and figure out how to handle this. You are excused, and a reminder to keep the strictly confidential while I inform the appropriate other parties.”
Gego bowed in deference before leaving the office. After he left, Hale-he leaned back in his saddle chair and groaned. The idiot had uncovered humanity possessed the capability of affecting a wide chunk of space at a power and complexity unheard of among any other known species, and his first suggestion was to blackmail them? The diplomat rubbed his head trying to make the sudden headache go away.
A few thoughts were coming to mind, snippets that had been dismissed in the moment, but now he couldn't shake them as he was reminded of the first species that had ever encountered humanity, and the comments by their scientists. They had said that humans were curiously disinterested in their warpspace drivers, despite not having faster-than-light capabilities already.
Then the second species that encountered humanity had mentioned that a child of one of the diplomatic party had become separated from the group, and accidentally come in contact with and ingested some Earth flora. It wasn't something toxic or dangerous to humans, but the physiological makeup of that species reacted poorly with alkaloids in the flora and would have resulted in a swift and painful death if left untreated. But instead, the humans had administered a series of emetics and alkaloid-binding treatments, something they said was common in the case of an accidental poison ingestion, The diplomat remembered reading a footnote from the inhuman physician at the time that this particular blend of neutralizing agents was not something commonly found in human medical kits, and in fact was uniquely suited to their own species’ biology.
Both had been written off as flukes, interesting anecdotes at most, but now the diplomat began to see the greater shape of it, as a species that cared not for faster-than-light travel, for they'd doubtless already achieved it, mastered it, and discarded it as uninteresting at some point before. A species, who upon supposed first contact, had comprehensive medical and anatomical knowledge of their guests sufficient enough to save a child in mere minutes from otherwise certain death.
All this from a species that had befriended and gregariously hosted every alien ship that had come astray upon their planet, and offered nothing but support and friendship to both waylaid travelers and their subsequent diplomatic summits, despite seeming to lack the ability to travel outside of their own star system. A species that was confident, at a basal level that Hale-he was only just now beginning to truly understand.
He opened a communications missive, addressed to all the other diplomats of similar station amongst the other species humanity had made contact with.
”Greetings to my fellow ambassadors. * *I come bearing difficult news regarding humanity: * *They are not what they appear to be. * *Yet, I believe it is of the utmost importance that we continue to pretend that they are, * *For fear that otherwise, we will learn who, or what, they truly are…”

2024.05.21 23:49 Imaginary-legend302 [UK] 23F Have I been discriminated because of my outfit at work?

Hello everyone, I (23F not originally from the UK but live in it now) really hope there's someone that can help me.
I have worked at this company for over 6 months, working in a team of 5. Today at work, I felt attacked and discriminated by my line manager ( female let's call her Kate). Kate has came to me while I was making a drink at work, and told me that my outfit was inappropriate and Kate had received previous reports about it, she didn't want to say who. I kind of froze at that moment and didn't know what to say to the statement.
I have spoken to my team leader (lets call her Lily) and Lily went to have a talk with Kate to explain how I felt. A Few hours later the manager came back and took me for a chat in another room.
Kate said that it was the CEO and another male who works at the company, which is above the manager in the company, that has reported the way I dress and that herself (Kate) sometimes gets distracted by me. Kate said (sometimes while on my desk I look up and look at you and I can't focus) I found that really weird. The other thing I found weird is that the CEO and the other male (he's always been so weird and always looking at other girls and I caught him staring at me occasionally which is made me feel really uncomfortable and other female colleagues too including Lily) only come to the office occasionally so I barely see them and I don't remember myself wearing anything revealing, so I am not sure why this complaint would come from these two?.
I have asked Kate how comes she did not respond to the complaint and get specific information from them before approaching me, and if they do lack self control around women or get distracted by women's bodies which we cannot hide our figures?, why is it my responsibility to wear conservative clothing?.
Kate responded to my question to say, it's because you were wearing fishnet stockings and the sheer top were inappropriate ( I had a top under my sheer one which covered my stomach and cleavage area, including wearing shorts under my skirt) Just to add up that I have other female colleagues wearing low tops, shorts, skirts... And none of them were being spoken to. To add to this, if I wear a skirt I always wear stockings or tights ect never bare and always have shorts under my skirt.
I always get told off about things especially from my manager Kate. I actually don't know why Kate has singled me out every time in any situation relating to work or not such as this. Other examples can be arriving at work at 9.01am and her calling my personal phone to ask why I am late (I was actually entering the office at the time). Previously Kate approached my team and spoke to me asking about a specific case where she could not locate it, this I assisted with to show where it is on the company files and even though nothing was wrong with the case, she will still remark that it was my fault she couldn't find it...
Everyone has noticed how differentiated her treatment to me and everyone at work agreed that my clothes were unrevealing and were perfectly fine.
Pls note that the dress code in the handbook is smart casual.
Could anyone advise me on what to do please? I would like to report this and other cases where I felt triggered and discriminated. If you need any more details let me know. Thank you.

2024.05.21 23:47 FormulaFox Seeking suggestions on where to place shortcut keypad

Greeterlings everybody. So my full-size arcade cabinet is finally nearing completion, but I find myself in a bit of a conundrum...
You see, due to a combination of issues, I feel the need to get one of those mini-keypads you can get off Amazon to integrate into the cab to use as a shortcut keypad so I don't have to have a keyboard always on hand. I'm having trouble deciding where exactly to put it.
To be clear, I'm talking about something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Programmable-Keyboard-Portable-Shortcut/dp/B09Z3WFPF (note: NOT necessarily this EXACT item, but something along similar lines - alternative suggestions welcome) in order to map to shortcuts in MAME, TP, or other things that don't like using my Xinput-based control panel for shortcuts(and volume control should I get one with the appropriate knob).
I can place in the top left or right corners of the control panel, or any corner of the bezel, without blocking any unique graphics or getting in the way of control functionality. But I'm torn on where to put it for both aesthetics and convenience.
I'd post a picture of the cab to help make the aesthetic call, but at present is not in a state that would be helpful in that regard, so I figured I'd make the general inquiry for suggestions and then throw up photos once the cab is reassembled.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

How we could save Star Trek: Lower Decks and create Star Trek: Legacy

Mike O'Sullivan • May 2024 • mike@cerritosenterprises.com
Executive summary
We can save Lower Decks and create Legacy, but it will take more than appeals to Paramount. It will take money. These series can be fostered by a group of business savvy Star Trek fans. It would be a profit making venture that could also give Star Trek fans more of what they want.
Key takeaways:
Historical background
Star Trek TOS was the first show ever extended because of a letter writing campaign. NBC and Desilu executives were impressed enough by the campaign to extend the show one more season.
At the time, determining television ratings was a young science. Shows were only rated by percent of total viewers. Demographics were not taken into account. Only a few years later, NBC executives realized that Star Trek was actually a big hit. It attracted young, middle class Americans… one of the most sought after markets in the world. Ever since then, Star Trek has had a symbiotic but complicated relationship with fans and networks.
Recent background
Unlike TV ratings in the 1960s, streaming services know quite a bit about viewership. They know which shows are popular and the demographics of those viewers. They know exactly how much money each show is bringing in. Apparently, Star Trek isn't doing well enough to attract their investment dollars.
Paramount is in the midst of serious financial difficulties. Their stock has declined by 50% in the last year. Their streaming service, Paramount+, lost $490 million last year, which was an improvement over the previous year when they lost about $575 million. All of Paramount's revenue streams are down, they're over leveraged, and they have a cash flow problem. [https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/paramount-streaming-loss-subs-1235838684/] Paramount is struggling to make ends meet, so they're making cuts. We wish they weren't cutting back on Star Trek, but tough decisions have to be made.
Executives presumably already knew that there would be campaigns to save Lower Decks and create Legacy. They've already taken that into account. Unless a campaign is overwhelming, it's unlikely to change their minds.
The plan
It's important to understand that this plan is based on profit, not fandom. While there is certainly a place in the world of commerce for doing something because it's cool, profit is the engine that drives business.
I propose here a plan in which a group of investors form a company devoted to investing in Star Trek. This plan would reduce Paramount's risk while leveraging the popularity of Star Trek. As business ventures go, the plan would be relatively low risk because it only moves forward if certain contracts could be arranged. However, even with contracts signed, it would take a significant investment to get the cameras rolling.
First, let's look at some numbers. I'm working from memory here, but I think these numbers are close enough for an overview of the situation.
It costs about $3 million to produce an episode of Lower Decks. It costs about $8 million for an episode of Discovery, so Legacy would probably cost around the same amount. For the purposes of this discussion, we'll only look at Lower Decks. The same principles would apply to Legacy on a larger scale. A ten episode season of Lower Decks would therefore cost around $30 million. Hollywood accounting can get tricky… an expense item can get allocated among multiple projects that might not seem related. Therefore, a per-episode estimate is fuzzy and doesn't necessarily extrapolate into a season-long budget. We'll go with a season budget of $30 million here. Reality will adjust those numbers as necessary.
In terms of corporate structure, there are two Paramount divisions involved in producing Lower Decks: Paramount Studios and Paramount+. This plan drops Paramount+ out of the equation, instead relying on other streaming services like Netflix.
So let's get to the actual plan.
A group of investors would form a company called Cerritos Enterprises. Those investors would probably be Star Trek fans… the tech world is filled with Trekkies. However, remember that this is a profit making endeavor, so fanship isn't a requirement.
Cerritos Enterprises wouldn't initially need to raise a huge amount of money (as startups go). $1 million would probably be a good start, enough to show that the company is a real, established startup that's ready to do business. They would need to provide evidence that they can raise more funds if the deal goes forward. That makes it relatively low risk because more money isn't invested until there are signed contracts. (I'm going to stop saying "relatively" every time I say "low risk". Just assume the risk is always relative to the general risk of any business startup.)
Having established credibility, Cerritos Enterprises makes proposals to two companies: Paramount and a streaming service, say Netflix.
To Paramount, they propose hiring Paramount Studios to produce Lower Decks. That would appeal to Paramount because it would be low risk: they don't have to proceed until they have at least some cash in hand.
To Netflix they propose that Netflix would carry the show. Netflix would be the biggest risk taker: they can't know for sure how popular the show would be on their platform. However, Netflix is in a good position to take risks. They made $5.4 billion profit last year, up from the previous year. In fact, they have been consistently profitable every year since 2011. [https://www.businessofapps.com/data/netflix-statistics/] They're a good candidate for a risky entertainment venture.
The proposals involve sharing expenses. Each player would contribute money. For example, Cerritos Enterprises would kick in $10 million, as would Paramount and Netflix. Paramount's investment would be in-kind… they produce the show with the knowledge that Netflix is already ready to buy. Netflix would need to kick in some money before delivery to get production going.
Allocating profits would get complicated. Paramount might want more than just payment for producing the show; they would want revenue based on the popularity of the show. Netflix might not be satisfied with just adding a great show to their platform: they might want a share of merchandising or of future expansion of the franchise. All of that would have to be worked out.
If we go with these numbers, Cerritos Enterprises would need to pony up about $10 million. To give some perspective, $25 million is considered the sweet spot for first round investment in a tech startup. Most startups fail, so an investment of $10 million in a low risk venture wouldn't phase the world of investors. It has a better promise of profit at a lower investment than most startups.
In terms of who would put up the money, we can generally divide investors into two categories: macroinvestors and microinvestors.
Macroinvestors are the peoplecompanies that put up millions of dollars for a venture. They're often called "angel investors'' because they put money into projects that most people wouldn't view as promising. Angel investors would form the bulk of investment.
I would love to see the project include Star Trek fans (like me) as microinvestors. However, that might be difficult or impossible. Securities and Exchange Commission regulations make it difficult for small investors to get in on startups. (Personal note: this is a situation that I think should change. Little guys like me should be able to get in on the action.) You can't just crowdfund a project by selling equity. That being said, fans could be a promising source of money. Trekkies probably skew towards higher incomes, and they're passionate about the franchise they love. I'm sure quite a few fans (like me) would make small investments just for the sheer excitement of getting involved in Star Trek. If for no other reason, I would like to see Cerritos Enterprises include microinvestors so the fan base could have more say in the future of our franchise. A company like MicroVentures (https://microventures.com/) might be able to help implement microinvestment.
Cerritos Enterprises would benefit from having a Star Trek star on the board of directors. Jonathan Frakes would be a good choice. Not only is he beloved by the Star Trek community, he's an experienced director and producer. He knows the business. He could attract Trekkie investors, then he could talk business with them. George Takei is also an experienced entertainment producer. There are probably other business savvy stars who could get involved.
Conclusion
Entertainment industry professionals will undoubtedly find flaws in this plan. That's a good thing: it helps make the plan better. However, Hollywood is like any other industry: money talks. A pile of cash on the table will get their attention.
This is an ambitious plan, but Trekkies are an innovative group. Making things happen is what we do.
Let's make this happen.

2024.05.21 23:42 UtahTeapots [C++] Logging: Macros vs. Functions

I'm writing a simple logger for my game engine and it seems that most people use macros for this over functions for two reasons:
  1. It gives access to helpful macros like __FILE__ and __LINE__
  2. They are easily able to be stripped away from the source code in distribution builds
However, for reason #1, C++20 now provides std::source_location which solves this issue and for reason #2 it seems like this is possible by just #ifdef'ing the body of the log function with a DEBUG parameter. It's commonly advised to avoid macros unless you really need them or maybe if they simplify the code greatly, but I don't feel like that either of those apply here as logging can be achieved without them and the code is still very elegant.
I ran two examples in Godbolt to test this and noticed that the assembly output was longer when using the function method over macros and that this scales with the number of calls to log(...) in the function version (note that 1. this is just a simple example that logs a string and 2. I've modified the inclusion of iostream to make the output a little less verbose).
Log with macros:
#ifdef DEBUG #include  #define LOG(x) std::cout << x << std::endl #else #define LOG(x) #endif int main() { LOG("Hello, World!"); return 0; }
Output with DEBUG enabled (prints: "Hello, World!"):

main: push rbp mov rbp, rsp mov eax, 0 pop rbp ret
Log with functions:

As you can see, the code works correctly in both cases as it outputs the message when in debug mode and strips it to print nothing if debug mode is not specified. However, the assembly for the function version is quite a bit longer and increases with every call to log(...). If I #ifdef the log(...) call itself, rather than the body of the function, then the assembly output is quite small and does not change no matter how many calls to log(...) I make (when DEBUG is disabled). However, that would require me to #ifdef every single call to log(...) I make which just doesn't seem reasonable.
I'm wondering if there is a method to use functions rather than macros and keep the assembly small and not scale with the number of calls to log(...), similar to how the macro version works. Is there a way to do this, or should I just be using macros for this logging functionality?

2024.05.21 23:39 CrappedInCrunk Can someone remotely remove/delete a call from my Recent History?

On my Cisco phone, I received an internal call last week that I, later that day, went and noted the time the call came in. I checked it today and that particular call is missing. All other internal and external calls, incoming, outgoing and missed, are still there. I’m curious if an individual who is high up in an organization can delete it from my history.
Edited for grammar. Still bad, sorry.

2024.05.21 23:39 ravingkumquat Hiring animator to create a heartfelt animated music video

Goal: Create a heartfelt animated music video Song: TheFatRat - Still Here With You Tone: Happy, Sad, Sweet, Touching, Moving, Inspiring, Beautiful, Spiritual Style: 2D cute cartoon/anime Length: About two and a half minutes to fit the song (more is fine, adding a short intro/outro to fit the story is welcome) Deadline: 2 Months (flexible) Budget: $3,000 (flexible)

Sorry if the deadline/budget seems unreasonable. I am very flexible on both and am more than willing to work with someone on a fair price.

I would like to have a music video created for my fiancée, Emily, starring her and one of our cats, Fawkes, who we helped cross the rainbow bridge in February 2023. We always get the feeling he's still here with us, watching over us, spreading his love and joy. I want to imagine what that would look like if it were indeed true. On a spiritual level, they were/are truly soulmates, and I want to create something really special for her to remember him by. These last few years have been really tough for her, and we have been abandoned/betrayed by some friends and family mainly due to drama around our caring for Fawkes.

I am looking for someone passionate who truly wants to help me make this a reality. I will do everything in my power to get whatever you need to make this work. This is probably way too much info, but I'm trying to get my thoughts out if it can help the creative process for anyone. If you're interested, please send me a message.

Factoids:

Thoughts, ideas, notes:

backstory below

Beginning:
Fawkes came into our lives in July 2017 from the streets after his previous owners were taken away from him a few weeks prior. We immediately brought him to the vet to get checked and tested for anything. The vet found that he was chipped and five years old. As a result, they couldn't really do much besides try to contact the previous owners. We took him home and kept him separated from our other cat, Freyja, since we did not know if he could spread anything to her. He was pretty lethargic, hardly eating, and couldn't really keep much down. We honestly thought we would wake up the next morning and he wouldn't be with us anymore. Luckily, that was not the case.

He wasn't doing so well the next day, so we called the vet and they had us come in again. Since the previous day, he went from over seven pounds down to about six and a half pounds. Our vet decided it was necessary to medically intervene or he was likely going to die. They hospitalized him on the spot and started giving him subcutaneous (SQ) fluids and other medications to help with his nausea and stimulate his appetite. We left him under the care of the vet and all we could do was wait to hear back. He pulled through like a champ. He was eating, moving, jumping, playing, snuggling, and loving life. It was as if he was reborn, like a phoenix from the ashes, so we named him "Fawkes" after the phoenix from Harry Potter.

Over the following years, Fawkes and Emily became pretty much inseparable. He was such a lovebug and radiated that classic "orange cat energy" wherever he went. If he wanted to get into something, he'd either find a way or keep trying until we could stop him. He absolutely LOVED belly rubs, and not once was it ever a trap (unless you felt "trapped" rubbing his belly for hours). In all the time we had him, he never hissed at, scratched, or bit (non-playfully) anyone. He just wanted to love everything and everyone he met. He didn't have any enemies in his eyes, just others who may not have cared for the level of love and joy he wanted to share.

Later:
Fawkes was diagnosed with stage 1 chronic kidney disease (CKD) in October 2021, which quickly progressed to stage 3 by early 2022. We were giving him medicine a few times a day, SQ fluids every couple of days, and going to the vet every other week to have his levels checked. He became a regular at the vet and even a few employees confessed to taking breaks just to go snuggle him because they loved him so much. We almost said goodbye to him in May 2022, as his symptoms were worsening and he no longer wanted to eat. He was a fighter, though, and told us he wasn't done fighting yet by finally eating on his own just as we were trying to make that difficult decision. We took him to the Animal Emergency and Referral Center (AERC) that night.

The vet told us that he had developed anemia and our only options were either to take him home and start end-of-life care or do a blood transfusion (which might not even work) and keep him hospitalized for a few days to be monitored. We opted for the blood transfusion. The procedure went well and we were able to come and visit him a day later, though they still had to keep him for another day or two just to be safe. We were also able to have his case looked at by a specialist, and they adjusted his meds to better suit his needs. They were estimating he maybe had a few weeks to a month or so before we ended up back where we were before the transfusion. We were now giving him less medicine a few times a day, SQ fluids every night, and going on walks through our apartment building every night before bed.

A few weeks became a few months, and he seemed to be doing even better than he was all of 2022 before his transfusion. We would take him on trips to Petco every week or so, so he could walk around and meet new friends. We would bring him to the park while we played Pokémon GO, even if we ended up just sitting in the car. Starting around September 2022, my boss even let me bring him to work with me on days he wanted me in the office. Vet appointments were few and far between, sometimes a couple of months apart. This pretty much continued all the way into February 2023 until we started to notice more significant symptoms again, and his CKD values were getting much worse. He didn't want to eat, he was hiding more, and he would often seek comfort by laying in his litterbox. We could tell our little warrior was ready to be done fighting.

Goodbye:
On the night of Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, Valentine's Day, we decided we couldn't make him fight for us any longer. We called our vet and made an appointment for Thursday, February 16th, 2023. We spent the whole day together on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, snuggling on the couch and finished with our nightly routine of SQ fluids and a walk. We all spent the night together on the couch, staying awake as long as we could. On Thursday, February 16th, 2023, we brought Fawkes to the vet, and he was excited to walk around and explore the new space for a short while before needing a rest. It was nice to see him perk up and act like how we remembered him to be. The doctors took him away to be prepped and brought him back after a short while. We were petting him, kissing him, and told him he was a good boy and how much we loved him as he peacefully passed. We left there with the heaviest pet carrier ever. An empty one.

2024.05.21 23:38 geoffsn Gave a talk on Sunday. Happy to hear thoughts on it.

Good morning sisters and brothers, fellow Saints of our aspirational Zion. I was asked to speak and allowed to decide what the topic would be. After a lot of consideration I felt inspired to speak about being Actively Engaged in a Good Cause and how that relates to the full name of the church.
I was glad when President Nelson decided to put more emphasis on the full name of the church. Not that I mind using the term Mormon, but because I do find the full name of the church to be significant. When the church was organized in 1830 it was called the Church of Christ. In 1834 the members voted to change the name of the church to the Church of the Latter-day Saints. Then in 1838 Joseph had a revelation for the name to be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While this effectively combined the two previous names, it also highlights something that I think most people overlook. Namely that the church is not only Jesus’s church, but that the church also belongs to us, the Latter-day Saints. We too have ownership of the church. While this may sound strange at first, it actually also fits very well with another concept that Joseph Smith taught: Theodemocracy.
Joseph spoke of this most actively the year before his death when running for President of the United States and when the Council of Fifty was created. The idea also holds in it that while God is in charge, we also have ownership and must have a say, actively vote, propose new ideas, and generally be actively engaged in moving things forward. It is not a theocracy with a fake voting system attached like that of North Korea. However, we have largely seen our own tradition move from one in which we do things by common consent including adding to our canon or as in 1834 voting to change the name of the church, towards something much more akin to voting in North Korea. This has coincided with other shifts in which we have taken less and less ownership of our church and as a result failed to properly sustain and support our leaders.
It is unfair to our leaders for us to sit back and wait for them to do frankly most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the running and functioning of our church, stake, and ward. In the past when I’ve been in callings that required me to be overseeing the assignments of home teaching or really any other church assignments, my experience has been that occasionally some inspiration will strike for some of the assignments, but that for the majority, I felt like I was left to figure out myself what assignments seemed to make the most sense. I know that many leaders that I have spoken to on this topic have also had such experiences. When we as members speak with our leaders, share information with them, it makes it much easier to make the best decisions. Without that feedback much more is left to guesswork.
We need to support and sustain our leaders, but this becomes difficult or challenging if we bring some assumptions to the table when considering how we do this. A major one as I see it is when we put too much trust in the arm of the flesh and grant our leaders infallibility or the lesser but largely equivalent functional infallibility.
As the saying goes: “Catholics say that the Pope is infallible, but none of them believe it. Mormons say that the Prophet is fallible, but none of them believe it.” Brigham Young recognized the potential for harm in this setting and said:
"I am fearful [the Saints will] settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purposes of God in their salvation, and weaken the influence they could give to their leaders, did they know for themselves, by the revelations of Jesus, that they are led in the right way.” – Brigham Young 1862 General Conference (quoted in General Conference of the church in 1963 and in 1989)
And this one is also important:
"And none are required to tamely and blindly submit to a man because he has a portion of the priesthood. We have heard men who hold the priesthood remark, that they would do anything they were told to do by those who presided over them, if they knew it was wrong; but such obedience as this is worse than folly to us; it is slavery in the extreme; and the man who would thus willingly degrade himself should not claim a rank among intelligent beings, until he turns from his folly. A man of God… would despise the idea. Others, in the extreme exercise of their almighty authority have taught that such obedience was necessary, and that no matter what the saints were told to do by their presidents, they should do it without asking any questions. When Elders of Israel will so far indulge in these extreme notions of obedience as to teach them to the people, it is generally because they have it in their minds to do wrong themselves.” – Millennial Star, vol.14 #38, pp. 593-95
Yet does this functionally happen in the church? Do we follow this council to find out for ourselves instead of simply assuming everything from our leaders is divine? Apostle Charles W. Penrose, who would later serve as counselor to President Smith, declared:
"President Wilford Woodruff is a man of wisdom and experience, and we respect him, but we do not believe his personal views or utterances are revelations from God; and when ‘Thus saith the Lord’, comes from him, the saints investigate it: they do not shut their eyes and take it down like a pill.” – Millennial Star 54:191
Do we do this? When the prophet says “Thus saith the Lord” do we take the time to investigate it? Do we remember President Kimball’s reaction to Elder Benson’s talk on the “14 fundamentals of following the prophet”?
"Spencer felt concern about the talk, wanting to protect the Church against being misunderstood as espousing ultraconservative politics or an unthinking “follow the leader” mentality. The First Presidency again called Elder Benson in to discuss what he had said and asked him to make explanation to the full Quorum of the Twelve and other General Authorities… A First Presidency spokesman Don LeFevre reiterated to the press the day after the speech that it is “simply not true” that the Church President’s “word is law on all issues—including politics.” – Lengthen Your Stride – Working Draft, by Edward Kimball
I’ve had the opportunity to know some great Mormons who do take this approach, but I’ve also known many who treat quotes from church leaders like downloaded messages from God (no human filters involved).
If we can believe that God is capable of inspiring our leaders, surely we can believe God is capable of letting us know when they’re wrong. If instead we assume that their judgment is always superior to our own, perhaps we’re helping to put up a massive iron gate.
"How often has the Holy Spirit tried to tell us something we needed to know but couldn’t get past the massive iron gate of what we thought we already knew?" – Dieter Uchtdorf 2012 Worldwide Leadership Training
Moses once opined “Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” We have all been confirmed members of the church and in that confirmation told to receive the Holy Ghost. It is easy to forget that when the spirit tells us something, that is a member of the Godhead speaking to us. If we can believe that God can give guidance to our leaders surely we can also believe God can give us guidance.
Another important and often overlooked point is the context to this oft quoted verse:
"We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion." -D&C 121:39
This statement wasn’t given in a vacuum. It is in the middle of a long discussion of priesthood and priesthood authority. This is talking specifically about priesthood leaders. When we read that “many are called but few are chosen,” we’re reading that many priesthood leaders abuse their power and only few truly honor it. The saints in Joseph’s day understood this. I think we’ve sanitized it over the years to make it seem like an aside, an intermission on the discussion of priesthood. This statement is as true now as ever. This verse, with its proper context, needs to be a lesson for us as members. We need to sustain and support our leaders. This doesn’t mean following them blindly. This doesn’t mean we must become “yes-men” to them. This does mean pray for them to be chosen instead of just called. This does mean to influence our leaders to do God’s will. Remember, one of Brigham’s concerns about us acting as if all our leaders decisions were divine is that it will “weaken the influence [we] could give to [our] leaders.”
What questions our church leaders will take to the Lord are impacted by our own openness to those things. In 1977 President Kimball expressed concern that if the Race-ban on priesthood was removed that there would be pushback from members in the American South and from some in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. When President Hinckley was asked in an interview about the Gender-ban on priesthood his response was that “there’s no agitation for it.” Until we better engage in our own history and understand how we got to where we are now it will be very difficult if not impossible for us as members to be prepared for the removal of the current gender-ban on priesthood.
Sometimes we might justify our own spiritual laziness by saying that while our leaders are fallible that God will never let them lead us astray, granting them a sort of functional infallibility. Nevermind that this was first said when my 3rd-great-grandpa President Woodruff was trying to convince members not to leave over the Manifesto. Nevermind that it means that we’re denying our leaders their agency by assuming that God removes their ability to make mistakes in their callings. Maybe some make such a statement more nuanced. Maybe they think that our leaders can make mistakes, but they won’t be majosignificant mistakes. Well, what is and isn’t significant depends a lot on who you are and how you’re being affected by it. I’m thinking that the women and children who were slaughtered in prophet-sanctioned genocide in the Bible considered that a significant mistake. I’m thinking that the thousands denied temple blessings their entire lives because of the color of their skin might consider that significant.
Let’s just recognize that few are chosen and that we need to give our leaders constructive/interactive support. We place a lot of responsibility on our leaders and they are very likely to make mistakes. Because they are human and doing their best, but as humans we all err from time to time. Recognizing the mistakes of our leaders is essential to giving them true support; it is vital to sustaining them. I would hope that we would avoid enabling or cheerleading bad decisions that friends or family are about to make. Pointing out why a decision will be or was problematic is what we expect of people who we truly love and support us, because it helps us to avoid pain and pitfalls and enables us to be our best.
Here’s a story from our little section of Salt Lake City in which members recognized the potential for mistakes and took ownership of our church. On August 23rd, 1896 Stake President Angus M. Cannon proposed a man to be the bishop of a new ward which was to be divided from the Sugar House Ward. The congregation voted against the proposed new bishop. President Angus M. Cannon then purportedly shouted "Sit down! and shut your mouths, you have no right to speak!" When Cannon engaged in a shouting match with the dissenting congregation, a ward member and policeman threatened to arrest the stake president for disturbing the peace. President Cannon more calmly repeated his attempt but was voted down "again several times." The Secretary of the First Council of the Seventy was in attendance and wrote in his journal: "I have been taught that the appointing power comes from the priesthood and the sustaining power from the people and that they have the right of sustaining or not sustaining appointees.
When it comes to being actively engaged in church endeavors our neighborhood and the general Sugar House area has done a lot. The "stake missionary program" began in the Granite Stake under President Frank Taylor in the early 1900s. It was an idea presented to President Taylor who then prayerfully considered trying it out as a stake. It proved successful and was later picked up by the General Authorities who made it a church-wide program.
The seminary program was also started in our stake after Joseph Merrill (a newly called member of the Granite Stake Presidency) felt inspired to start it and worked out agreements with the school board and got it going at the very new (at the time) Granite High School.
Also, in 1909 the Granite Stake started a monthly family home evening program. After counseling with many sisters and brothers in the stake, the Stake Presidency asked each family to spend Tuesday evening home together. All of these were local things which were eventually picked up and run at the church-wide level. We have a history in our area of being anxiously engaged and pioneering with new ideas.
While those are all instances of members, wards, and stakes starting programs for good causes in our area of Salt Lake City, they are just a few examples of Saints starting inspired efforts which were eventually accepted and promoted by the top church leaders. The relief society started when women in Nauvoo came together to do some good. The Primary program, Sunday school, Mutual Improvement Association, welfare/farming, organized genealogy efforts, and Young Adult programs all also started as members and local leaders were anxiously engaged and thereby gave influence to the top church leaders.
So as we consider how we can more actively engage in the church and look at what we can do now that would help to further the kingdom of God, I’d like to share a few things that have been on my mind which I feel would be steps which we can do now and which doesn’t require any new doctrines, revelations, or organizational adjustments from our leadership.
  1. Give leaders their agency and remove the false idol of functional infallibility
I’ve already said a lot about this. The only thing I’ll add is to encourage everyone to read and learn about our history. The church history department has been putting out a lot of new, well-researched material, and there is a very high chance that it will be different than how you learned about things over the last several decades. Interestingly, most historically thorny topics become vastly easier to deal with when we stop denying leaders agency and ability to get things wrong.
  1. Stop turning into a time capsule of the 1950s
This is really a small thing, but sometimes small things can have an outsized impact. Assuming someone comes into church for the first time, they will likely be a little weirded out because in dress and culture they walked into a time capsule of the 1950s. The Amish did this with mid-1800s, some Mennonites have as well. FLDS have with when they split in the 1930s/40s. These groups that have followed this pattern of freezing time and culture because they have been integrated into their religious practice are generally ones that are not really growing and have little-to-no impact or relevance in society. If we want to do the most good and build the most bridges, it is easier to do if we don’t continue falling into this pattern. Any efforts on our part to make our meetings look like a place that people in the public could come into and not feel out of place are steps in this direction. Dresses, suits and ties aren’t part of Christ’s gospel. Missionary clothing is changing for similar reasons. New guidelines for missionaries include allowing sisters to wear pants and Elders to go without jackets, so surely we can extend the same to our church attendance.
  1. Always speak at church as though the audience is the general public
I have many times felt like I didn’t fit in or belong at church, and many times this has been because people speaking at church have done so with the assumption that everyone in the building must share their views on a given topic. Simply imagining that a gay couple, an ex-mormon, an investigator, some in the midst of a faith crisis, and others who live in our neighborhood are in the audience will help us to make sure that as we teach our lessons, give our talks, etc. that we will do so in the most open and welcoming way possible, which frankly is how i believe Jesus would have spoken. I truly believe that if we try to do this it will drastically improve our lessons and dialogue and help to make church a place that more people want to be. It is a change that (to borrow imagery from Jesus’s parable of the sower) will be akin to tilling and prepping the soil to improve the likelihood of allowing seeds to take root.
There are near infinite ways that we can innovate and get engaged in good causes. Awake and arise, join in the cause of Zion. The aspiration of Zion is to be of one heart and one mind and have no poor among us. I think it is worth noting that being of one mind doesn’t mean agreeing on everything. It means that we are united in love; love for God and for all persons. When this is our top priority, when we worry about how our actions impact others and whether our words and actions are conveying love, we become united. I’ve been a long-time fan of Eugene England’s essay “The church is as true as the gospel.” In it he makes the case that the church is true because it is a vehicle in which we are able to actually try to put the gospel into practice. In doing so we encounter difficulties as we interact with other fallible mortals and try to navigate our interactions in a Christ-like way. We all try and this mix of imperfect people who unite in love and service can help to bring each other and others to Christ. It is my prayer that we can find ways to engage with love, and humble ourselves like little children, to change our ways as needed to come closer to Christ. I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

2024.05.21 23:36 Eli2cold09 IMO not referenced due to address verification?

I have a weird one. I had my HLR informal conference today and I made note that my IMO was referenced in the evidence section, however, it was never refuted in the amplifying information at the bottom, so it was never used. During the call, the rater told me that they looked up the address that the provider listed on the letter was a UPS store (which they use to send and receive mail) and they flagged my IMO as fraudulent and didn't even read the IMO which listed the providers NPI number and license certification number. I tried to explain that to the rater, and they effectively told me that because of the address listed, they weren't even going to consider my IMO. I have never heard of this happening before, and do I have any recourse beside just waiting for the denial and filing a supplemental?

2024.05.21 23:33 1thymeonli Who is the one behind the calls buying?

My tin foil has somewhat melted into my head but I think I'm starting to see the kansas city shuffle folding into place.
The calls have been MILLIONS of dollars worth so far, and its only Tuesday. I love RK, but that kind of capital is a lot for any independent guy like him to come up with, especially considering the fees and costs he will have likely had to deal with in the past, and whatever restrictions may have been placed on him.
Who do we know that has MILLIONS on hand to invest, with an interest in the long term health and wellbeing of Gamestop as a company, but also a keen interest in the share price both long and short term. Ryan. Fucking. Cohen. And his access to the Gamestop war chest is his key to doing it.
The recent preliminary earnings noted a significant amount of cash on hand has moved, some have speculated an acquisition, but I am speculating that these will be in calls contracts for gamestop itself. Plus the fact these are a preliminary earnings report which we have not yet seen so far adds protections against insider trading allegations for GME insiders, and major point in my theory.
The calls are for June expiry, right around the time of the investors conference call, if these calls are exercised at $20/$25 a piece, this would mean there would be massive amounts of shares that would need to be purchased on the open market, with CAT in place by this time so a T+1 settlement and a stricter audit trail. But the cost of the exercising of the contracts could also be in the millions, maybe around say, $100 million dollars? Who the hell has that kind of scratch laying around...
So if price maintains and these calls are exercised, the buying pressure would be monumental to cover them, with each share costing whoever has to fulfil the contract more and more and more. Whoever is selling shares would make an awful lot of money, it would be quite lucky if you had a few tens of million shares to sell when the price is going up, what was that other form that Gamestop published not too long ago? The offering of being able to sell up to 45 million shares that had everyone losing their mind? A lot of wrinkled ones were able to conclude that this would allow GME to raise capital at what may be unusually high market rates. Which is completely true, since they have the greenlight to sell at short notice now it's been announced.
The whole discussion about calls in and around GME has been a topic of hot debate since even the before times. Some say they're good for adding buying pressure, some say they're traps for people who aren't so well versed and have a surplus of cash and a lack of sense, some have said they're only actually useful if they're exercised. Exercising calls costs money, the most expensive part is the exercise, money a lot of us simply have held in the stock we have so lovingly been HODLing and accumulating for the past few years. Investopdia has an article on calls and puts I'd recommend you check out to understand this process if you're not following
So when these contracts come to be exercised, the buying pressure will raise the underlying stock price, but whoever holds the contract will get them for $20/$25 regardless. No matter how high it might run, the casino pays out on 20. Wait, didn't I see a casino paying out on 20 in a movie once? Can anyone remind me of that name?
As the price climbs since MMs will need to pull more and more shares out of an already diminished pool, i know a certain subreddit that owns, and i mean, OWNS, 25% of them, the market rate for these will soar, and what do you think will happen when a few more shares become available? They'll be snatched out of whichever hand is offering them and replaced with a massive wad of liquid cash, however massive the seller decides.
These shares will then be lovingly gifted right back into the hands of gamestop for $20/$25 a pop, who may, or may not, choose to sell them again, or may just decide to keep hold of them for a while and see how they feel resting in the back pocket.
If my tinfoil is screwed on right, gamestop may be selling their own shares at climbing prices, to satisfy their own $20/$25 strike options contracts. Leaving them with both shares, and cash in the pocket, and if gamestop finds itself in possession of 75% or more of these shares from circulation, it will have a duty to shareholders to initiate a share recall with the powers that be and force all shorts to close since that will be evidence of synthetic share circulation
With RC having control of the capital for whatever he so chooses, CAT landing, RK popping back up in a cryptic manner on twitter, all the pieces are revealing themselves to my minds eye
I may just be tired, and I am for certain highly regarded, but what if I'm right. I'm sure the first comment will tell me how wrong I am, but a man can dream can't he?

2024.05.21 23:32 alfiesbaggyone Terrible treatment of transgender employees

I am beyond fed up with this company's blatant malicious hostility for their transgender employees.
For context, I am transgender, as are several of my coworkers. All of us have to deal with our legal names being on the schedule, revealing our legal names to our coworkers. As if that wasn't bad enough, our legal names also appear on every receipt of every customer we cash out. I have had customers call me by my legal name because they read it off the receipt. Staples essentially hands out its employee's deadnames to every single customer, including the transphobic ones who harass us. (Management couldn't care less when it comes to innapropriate comments we have to deal with from customers)
HRConnect has a feature where you can tell Staples your "preferred" name (very insulting language for trans people), but it doesn't affect anything besides HRConnect. Schedules and receipts remain unaffected. Yes, I have asked my manager to change the names on the schedule; he prints the schedules as-is, then scribbles out the legal names.
One of my transgender coworkers was particularly incensed about having her legal name given to customers who regularly harass her. Being particularly motivated, she decided to contact corporate. The response was absolutely appalling. She was completely dismissed, told that the legal name was the only one they could use on the POS systems. Now, it's important to note that she used to work at Sally Beauty, and they use the exact same POS systems that Staples does. When she brought up the name-change issue to her manager at Sally's, the manager updated her name THAT SAME DAY. Afterwards, every receipt showed her correct name. We KNOW it is possible.
However, Staples Corporate insisted it couldn't be done, which she knows for a fact to be false. She called HR out on it, but they outright refused. She asked for a supervisor, then another supervisor. This turned into a WEEKS LONG battle with HR. They never relented. I saw her reduced to tears multiple times.
The Staples corporation has absolutely no care or compassion for their transgender employees. In fact, they actively antagonize them, and aid and abet harassment and discrimination at the hands of their customer base. But hey, they sell a Staples Pride shirt in the merch store, so it's all good, right?

2024.05.21 23:31 Known_Annual7829 How Does a Restraining Order/NC Order Work? What's the Process?

So, to sum up a very long and complicated story, at the beginning of 2022, my ex began stalking me. He doesn't live in my city (about four and a half hours away), yet he took the time to travel the distance to sit outside of my old apartment building, waiting for me to come outside. He sent me harassing messages, threatening that "things would get worse" if I didn't talk to him. While I was able to sneak out of my apartment through the back door, from what I was told by my roommates and others, he was going around knocking on doors, and even knocked ours. He left a handwritten note on my car as well. I ended up calling my apartment security, but by the time they went to scope the area, he was gone.
While this was scary, I didn't take any other action against him. My thought process was that, eventually, he would get over his rage and jealously, and move on. And it seemed like I was right. Over the next two years or so, I didn't hear a word from him. One of our mutuals even told me that he had come to our city numerous times, but didn't attempt to harass me again. It seemed like it was over.
Until this past Saturday. I received a call from him through a Snapchat group chat I was not even aware I was in. I have him blocked on everything, so once I saw it was him calling, I just immediately left the group chat. About 10 minutes later, he messaged another Snapchat group chat that both me and my boyfriend were in (the same boyfriend who I was dating during the first stalking incident). I, again, immediately left the chat without seeing the message. But my boyfriend opened it, and the message was from my ex saying that my car "still had the same license plate on it." I immediately began freaking out, as my boyfriend is studying abroad and I am alone in our apartment. After a couple of hours of explaining the situation to my friends in case things got ugly, I realized that he had left yet another note on my car. So, while still on the phone, I went outside to check it out. This time, it wasn't a note. It was a card that just said "Congratulations on your new apartment" with no writing on the inside. I ended up calling the police, but opted not to file a report as I'd have to wait for the police to arrive, and knew that my ex was already gone.
Now, the courthouse is open, and I want to file for a restraining/no contact order. However, here are my main concerns: 1. He doesn't even live in my city. So, would a restraining order really even matter? 2. The evidence I have is circumstantial at best. The only physical evidence I have is the card he left this past weekend, but everything else I have is either just photos of his previous harassing messages, and my boyfriend's word about what the Snapchat message actually said. I do have witnesses who were here during the first time he stalked me, but again, those are just words and not actual hard proof. 3. I'm not "fearing for my life." I've never known my ex to be violent, so I'm not concerned about my personal safety. I just don't like the feeling that I'm constantly being watched, and want to send my ex a message that he can't harass me without consequence.
I've seen before that restraining orders can get denied, and I'm scared. I'm scared the harassment will only get worse if he finds out, but I really want to do it because I'm terrified of leaving my apartment. Can somebody please explain the process to me?
