I'll preface by saying my experience is limited to building 2 personal pc's, tinkering with fan/clock speeds, and basic folder sharing between Windows pc's at home. I've never used dockerfiles or linux so far.
The last few weeks I've been trying to read forums and posts, and watch as many guides and explanations as possible to help get my first understandings of home servers. I've reached a point where I am tipping into overwhelmed with possibilities (probably overthinking), and struggling with how I proceed.
I think I'm mostly struggling with how it all connects and how/what software I need to make it easily remote accessible/a cloud server, so help on this front would be great. Thanks in advance.
First idea: I use my Old PC + new HDD's as the servecloud hardware. (Cheaper and ideal in that it uses old parts)
My understanding so far for this is;

1. I reset the Win 10 operating system on my Old PC
2. Remove Win bloatware
3. Set new HDD's to Raid 5 and format
4. Install Plex media server
5. Install Steam with games
6. Install Moonlight/Sunshine for streaming Far Cry 6
7. Install Immich or Photosync with Photoprism for auto photo backups from mobile phones
8. ?Designate folder access for other users on the local network?
9. Tailscale vpn for remote access (never used it before)
10. ...unsure if i need to do anything else

Second idea: Buy a Synology device and add HDD. This acts as media+photo+file servecloud and remains on 24/7. Old PC gets turned on intermittently to act as GUI for Web browsing+PC gaming on TV. (upfront more expensive, possibly easier to first setup)
Below are some parameters of what I'm trying to do/use.
Functions to perform:

1. Connect to tv, other pc’s and mobile devices within local home network for access to personal media (movies, music, photos).
2. Storage of home media, personal documents
3. Access to web browsing on TV for ad-free viewing instead of using direct aps like YouTube (I imagine i need a GUI for this such as Windows 10)
4. Infrequent pc gaming on TV (without using my gaming specific pc to stream from. Far cry 6 on low-ish settings but OK fps).
5. Auto backup/syncing of photos from Mobile phones.
6. Avoid needing to use public cloud services like Google Photos/Apple iCloud/Microsoft Onedrive as file sharing/backup/remote access.
7. Be online and accessible 24/7

Note: I’d welcome any tips to reduce noise and wattage profile.

Hi all, as the title states - I am looking for feedback on my pay plan. I've worked at a large new and used Subaru dealer in MA for the past 2 years. Our current pay plan is as follows:
\ 100% commission based with some bonus opportunities from the dealer and manufacturer, no hourly/base pay **

• $200 mini on new/used, or 20% front end profit after they take $1,000 pack off the top (uncapped)
• after you sell and deliver 15 for the month, you get an extra $30 retroactive
• if your survey scores from the new cars (survey sent from manufacturer) scores remain at 95% (any return below 9/10 tears your score down drastically) you get an extra $850 for the month (from my dealership)
• once you have 3 new cars for the month, the manufacturer pays $70 per new car, and if your survey scores are high enough you get an extra $50 per new car (total of $120)
• our BDC department is oddly structured as a management position here rather than an entry level position (everyone in the role was previously a sales person as well). We call it the INT department, basically internet sales. Their department works with customers over email/text/phone calls (not in person) for scheduling test drives, they also follow up on every lead from online traffic (sales people do not have access to any online leads, we can only meet a customer by answering the phone, greeting a fresh customer when they arrive to the dealership, or by referral from a previous customer). However, if BDC collects a deposit on a vehicle and then hands the deal off to a sales person (the sales person is then responsible for getting all paperwork/insurance info/trade appraisal completed, and once the vehicle is registered we then spend about 60 mins going over each and every button and feature in the car with the customer...) I expect to be with a INT handoff customer about 4-5 hours all-in-all in most circumstances - and my commission is capped on every BDC handoff to $200 - even if there was $7,000 profit after they took their $1,000 pack off the top.

Right now, just about every single car leaving the lot is a $200 mini... we are selling new cars below employee pricing, and I don't think I've hit 15 once so far this year - it's been very rough to say the least. We have no receptionist at our dealership, which means that us sales people are responsible for answering/redirecting all incoming phone calls, as well as taking messages for others. We are also responsible for stocking in new vehicles, snow removal, writing online car descriptions (that one is funny to me because it seems like a task more designated for the INT team, but who am I to decide that?), and so many more tasks that most other dealerships have other employees to take care of. I am feeling so much frustration because management has been promising us for more than 6 months that volume is expecting to be ramping up and it hasn't - if anything, it's been steadily slower and yet they have hired two new sales people (14 of us total now). I am only paid for the vehicle I sell and I feel the work here is not matching the compensation. Hell, even when the market was "great" I did not even clear $7,500 for a 5 week month delivering 18 cars.
I absolutely LOVE my coworkers, and I really do look up to my GSM and SM's - they have taught me so much and do so every day, however they aren't paying my bills. If things do not change NOW, I will lose everything my apartment, my car - it's not like I'm not putting in the hours and the hard work. My closing ratio is high and my surveys/reviews are excellent - the traffic is horrifically low, and its like another slap in the face blowing every deal out to a mini on top of it. I feel as though they are expecting sales people to take the hit and ride out the slow market, all while higher-ups are reaping volume bonus incentives.

hi! i am rather new to tattoos, so this is a sort of odd question but i was wondering how do you guys decide where to put your tattoos? except for people who have sleeves, how does everyone else decide on placements? i have so many designs in mind but to me its confusing to decide on placements because of how they will all look together in the future. like what if something im getting now might ruin how a future tattoo would look? do you guys plan out ahead if you dont get them all at once? i know the answer to this is probably "it depends" but if anyone else has struggled with similar confusing thoughts, how did you make up your mind? do you just get them and see where it goes?

Someone once described Chuck as one giant plot hole, and they had a point. There are lots of loose ends and inconsistencies that we’re all prepared to overlook because of the overall genuine pleasure of the show. This is Chuck, not Chernobyl. We don’t really care that no one ever gets stuck in traffic in Los Angeles, for example, or that flying to Moscow seems to take maybe half an hour.
But still, people make mistakes, and there often isn’t an accounting for those mistakes. We may not want realism, but we do expect some degree of consistency. Ellie blew it big time with her CIA misadventure, which inadvertently led to her Dad being killed. What on earth was she thinking? We’ll never know. The entire chronicle of Sarah and Chuck the first two and a half years or so is a chronicle of mistakes that they eventually do put behind them, but it’s pretty fraught journey—particularly Sarah’s terrible taste in men (Casey gets this immediately,) and her double standard about Chuck. Morgan’s entire life trajectory is one blunder after another—he’s lucky Chuck doesn’t whack him from time to time, since many come at Chuck’s expense. Whatever happened to the potential lawsuits from Lester and Jeff’s interviews for new female staff? Who knows? The only person who ever seems to pay for any mistake is Casey, who is dismissed by Beckman for serious, but understandable and forgivable, offenses.
Which brings us to Beckman. How on earth did this person get to be a general? Her tenure seems to be a litany of bad judgments and downright blunders, one error after another. Starting with the remarkable judgment (shared by Graham, but not, importantly, enthusiastically embraced by Casey) to have Chuck killed, although he has, as Casey noted, served his country well, and never asked for the intersect in the first place. (Notice they don’t tell Sarah.) This is a completely bonkers decision. The argument that you can’t have two intersects around is nonsense—you probably don’t want them in the same room, but still, that’s no reason to kill the guy. Casey tries to resist the order, but she shoots him down immediately—refuses to even listen. This person is a military leader?
But by far the worst blunder is her repeated and bewildering confidence in Shaw. Not listening to Chuck and Morgan explain about the fake fight is pretty inexcusable, and nearly gets Sarah killed. Moreover, Beckman seems perfectly ok with Sarah working with Shaw even after she learns the truth about the death of Shaw's wife herself. In what universe is this a sound judgment? Shaw makes lots of mistakes, actually, and pays for exactly none of them until the bridge encounter with Chuck. (Shaw was a really good tragic villain, but his spy credentials are never catalogued.) Either Beckman is oblivious, or she’s genuinely stupid. I don’t think you become a general by being stupid. Well, maybe you do. And Beckman seems miraculously unscathed career-wise from any of these (in some cases, potentially fatal) blunders. We never again hear about Shaw’s elevator fake fight, or, more generally, the reasons for Beckman’s blind faith in Shaw when all the evidence should be suggesting otherwise.
Shaw isn’t the only example of Beckman’s poor judgments about people. We can forgive her infatuation with Roan Montgomery because that’s what it obviously is—the two seem to have been a thing. But Montgomery is an old drunk at this point, and even he knows it. Then there’s her belief that the Turners walk on water or something. How oblivious can you get, really. And who can forget Beckman’s expecting Chuck and Sarah to be back in Burbank the next day, following an excruciatingly harrowing experience and Sarah nearly getting murdered by Beckman’s favorite spy. They should have gotten three months off and the opportunity to work for someone less pathological. Instead, we get Beckman prepared to send them off again the next day. Really, doesn’t Beckman actually report to anyone?
And Beckman’s treatment of Sarah is pretty awful too. She knows Sarah’s strengths, but then we also have the ridiculous 49B exercise, which seemed designed mainly to show another attractive woman in skimpy outfits. As a plot device, it barely worked, and still it seems a bit of an over-reaction. Far worse was he decision to send Sarah off on her own to take down the Volkov empire, with Mary. Somehow the two of them were going to do something miraculous or something—it’s never completely clear. Of course, why Sarah agreed with this bonkers plan made as much sense as continuing to hang around Shaw even after he discovered the truth about his wife’s death. But at this point we’re used to Sarah making boneheaded judgments, so we let these slide.
I love Chuck--it's one of my three or four favorite shows ever. But a little more accountability for sheer stupidity wouldn’t have hurt the show one bit.

What are our Deployments like?
As a brief summary, our operations are fast-paced, well planned and well executed.
However, in more detail, our operations are greatly based on real-world situations that the UKSF detachments are involved in. The planning of our deployments usually commence upwards of 3 months before the first operation. This planning includes extensive research, "news reports" and intelligence documentation that our J-2 and SIS-MI6 staff create. Once our deployment has started, our operations are rich in detail, intel, and role-play interactions.
All of this culminates into a big picture which allows detachment commanders and staff to surgically strike to defeat or destabilise the enemy. If certain information is not accumulated or is not acted upon this could change the course and outcome of the campaign.
Our deployments can span over multiple maps to simulate multiple provinces and regions. We usually take between 6 to 8 weeks to complete our campaigns.

Heya! I apologize for the word wall in advance. I'm excited, lol.
As the title says, I'm a person who absolutely adores snakes. To make a long story short, I currently can't get any more than the 9 I already have, so I was looking for a snake pet sim game to live vicariously through, and... there's nothing! The closest I can find are OviPets and Xanje, but neither of those are very close and personal with your pets, so it doesn't scratch the itch.
So, I want to take matters into my own hands and bring that snake pet sim game into existence! I need help to do it though, as I'm admittedly not very skilled in programming, audio, and 3D model work.
In this team, I would be the 'snake expert' (so-to-speak) that guides how the snakes themselves should be implemented to capture the realism of having them as pets (i.e., what sizes their enclosures should be, what they should eat and how often, what temperatures and humidity their tank should be kept at, their body language and personalities, morph genetics, etc.). I'll also conduct interviews with other experienced snake keepers to make sure all of my information is as accurate as possible.
I'd also be primarily responsible for planning how the gameplay works and how the gameplay loop should go, but I also feel like that's something everyone in the team should be able to contribute to if they want to, so that's by no means something exclusive to me alone. Everyone can have a say there.
I will also do 2D art (though not in a realistic style). I can do icons, UI, and other misc stuff as we need it. While I don't see much writing being in the game beyond tutorials and descriptions, I'll contribute all of that, too.
As I also have actual snakes, I will also need to record examples of behavior from them for the team to use as needed.
What I'm looking for is:
-A coder. As I have no relevant experience here, the coding language and engine would be up to this person. As long as it's something that can do 3D games, export to PC, track the conditions the snakes are in and simulate some degree of their genetics system, I'm open to whatever engine and programming language the coder is most comfortable with.
-An audio designer, as no game is truly complete without SFX and background music. Snakes don't make a lot of noises, but the few they do make are important, and we'll need something to fill in all that silence snakes make.
-Someone - or multiple people - to take on the work of 3D assets. Modeling, texturing, animating, and rigging. I know these are all different skill sets so I'm perfectly willing for multiple people to take on various parts of this role. There would be the snakes obviously, but also other assets like decoration pieces to be made. A lot of the fun with snakes and other terrarium / vivarium / aquarium pets is decorating the tank they live in, and I want this game to be able to capture that.
As for how big the game is going to be, I don't picture this being a very big game. Something around the size of Wobbledogs. The gameplay itself could go on forever in the same save file if the player wanted, but the game itself wouldn't be all that complex and would take place in a set amount of space. On funding, my ideal plan would be to get a team that can make a demo, and then see how much crowdfunding money can be gathered on IndieGoGo. That money would be split evenly between all team members to help us during development. When the game is complete and goes up for sale, same thing- profits are evenly split.

Hi EE majors, I'm new to the field and would like to learn some stuff and create a small portfolio for resume (since no internship) over the summer before my sophomore year.
For fullstack, you can just open VScode and code a website with just a laptop and add it to github. But for electrical engineering, I'm not sure how. The components cost a lot and I'm not sure how to create a portfolio without much cash. I'm interested in PCB board designs and I'm wondering If i can learn how to create digital PCB designs and add that as a portfolio? Can I learn to create PCB designs on Eagle or Atrium and use the design as part of the portfolio or do I actually need to buy the parts?
I do plan on buying an elegoo starter kit to get myself familiar and learn some AutoCad over the summer. Any suggestions and resources, and starters for portfolio would be appreciated!

So I’ve finally worked myself up to the idea of doing this two year Product Design course my friend just completed after not really being sure of what to do with my life, but having watched him go through the course (and seen the stress!) but also seeing the work he now does I’m super excited to join him.
Having talked to him extensively about it, I’m pretty sure I have the right mindset for it. I’ve always been the sort of person who will take things apart, modify things, learn how they work, and just generally try my hand at things in order to make stuff to my liking or in a way that meets my preferences. It’s funny, the part that made me want to do this is the realisation that whenever he complains about having to revise a part or solve a manufacturing or design problem I’m always excited to see if I can help or come up with a solution to it, in fact a few of my random suggestions have actually helped him solve the problem or helped him come to the conclusion that solves it.
From what I’ve been told about the course, it isn’t a bachelors degree, but is instead a pretty fast paced, intensive program where the main point is to produce a portfolio of work which is then used to get into the industry, the qualification is somewhat of a formality, although it is important to have as well.
Only thing I’m worried about is that as much as I like the idea of doing this work, there’s some hard skills like drawing and CAD that I’m not super familiar with. I’ve played around with both, but I’m not particularly good at either, so I plan on installing the free personal license for Fusion 360 along with finding a good drawing application for my iPad so I can start practicing.
If anyone has a suggestion for an iPad program that is an industry standard for industrial design that would be great, but the main one is if there’s any suggestions for skills or tools I should be learning beforehand that take time to get good at I’m all ears, I really want to do well in this, so anything I can practice now to make my life easier through the course is ideal.
Also wouldn’t mind knowing if there’s an ideal part time job to try and do alongside study that would benefit me, he ended up working at a shop that sold quirky products which had a focus on interesting design which he quite enjoyed because it allowed him to interact with a lot of stuff which employed interesting materials and unique solutions to problems, so I’m thinking I’ll find something like that to do whilst studying.

Hi guys. I have a Bachelor's in electronics and am doing a master's in CS right now. I have done a decent bit of work but I would like to know which skills to prioritize right now because this is my dream job. I'm planning on splitting my time into two parts mainly - 1. Research (This is all robotics, mainly around perception and motion planning), and 2. Improving my skills in embedded engineering.
I'm in the USA, if that matters. I am not interested in working in defense because of my own personal moral obligations.
I'll attach my resume here (It's not very polished, please excuse me for that). I would like to know how I should progress from here. So far, I think these are the viable skillsets I should focus on for now-

1. High speed design (I can do basically anything that is low speed and not very high power)
2. Linux driver development
3. FPGA design
4. Make my own RTOS to understand how they work.

Please let me know what else I should focus on and what I should prioritize first, because I know I will not be able to complete everything.

Basically the title, I'm kinda obsessed with the "old" flourescent tube style of lighting, the cough and splutter of the ballasts / starters when turned on add a sort of life-lile feeling to them, and I want to put one in my bedroom, proble is, I can't seem to find an actual fixtures that support florescent tubes?
All the ones I've found are designed for the better for the environment LED bulbs, but I dont want them because they dont flicker!!!!
Is my only choice to wait on FB marketplace for some old warehouse to sell? Or is there a website I'm missing? I prefer amazon because I use it the most, but if there's an alternative then please let me know!
Im planning on putting a UVA bulb in it, I used to work at this laser / play centre and have pretty good ties with them and I'll just "borrow" A UV tube from them 😂

Do you use it as a daily driver? Did you test drive the other trims and decided on this one for more than the engine? Anybody has / enjoys the convertible version? Looking for guidance / recommendations on what to get.
I’ll share my logic and welcome comments / thoughts.
This is not for my 16 years old graduating son who has a learning permit. Shocking I know… but he it is for me (middle age guy who works for a living): - Where I am (US) there is a good supply of 8 series available - Prices drop drastically once they are a few years old (still not cheap of course) - The price difference between the trims is not huge and shrinks with time - I am happy with any trim as I understand the base version already has a powerful engine - I’d take it to the track maybe a few times a year but do not plan on racing / speeding otherwise - I do enjoy rapid acceleration and nice interiors - I like the M3 and M4 but I am not obsessed and there is more scarcity there so prices seem high when comparing to the 8 series which has better features / great design - Not a fan of the giant grille on the 4 series - I currently drive a 430i convertible and enjoy it a ton. Looking to trade in and upgrade.

Hi all, as the title states - I am looking for feedback on my pay plan. I've worked at a large new and used Subaru dealer in MA for the past 2 years. Our current pay plan is as follows:
\ 100% commission based with some bonus opportunities from the dealer and manufacturer, no hourly/base pay **

• $200 mini on new/used, or 20% front end profit after they take $1,000 pack off the top (uncapped)
  
• after you sell and deliver 15 for the month, you get an extra $30 retroactive
  
• if your survey scores from the new cars (survey sent from manufacturer) scores remain at 95% (any return below 9/10 tears your score down drastically) you get an extra $850 for the month (from my dealership)
  
• once you have 3 new cars for the month, the manufacturer pays $70 per new car, and if your survey scores are high enough you get an extra $50 per new car (total of $120)
  
• our BDC department is oddly structured as a management position here rather than an entry level position (everyone in the role was previously a sales person as well). We call it the INT department, basically internet sales. Their department works with customers over email/text/phone calls (not in person) for scheduling test drives, they also follow up on every lead from online traffic (sales people do not have access to any online leads, we can only meet a customer by answering the phone, greeting a fresh customer when they arrive to the dealership, or by referral from a previous customer). However, if BDC collects a deposit on a vehicle and then hands the deal off to a sales person (the sales person is then responsible for getting all paperwork/insurance info/trade appraisal completed, and once the vehicle is registered we then spend about 60 mins going over each and every button and feature in the car with the customer...) I expect to be with a INT handoff customer about 4-5 hours all-in-all in most circumstances - and my commission is capped on every BDC handoff to $200 - even if there was $7,000 profit after they took their $1,000 pack off the top.
  

Right now, just about every single car leaving the lot is a $200 mini... we are selling new cars below employee pricing, and I don't think I've hit 15 once so far this year - it's been very rough to say the least. We have no receptionist at our dealership, which means that us sales people are responsible for answering/redirecting all incoming phone calls, as well as taking messages for others. We are also responsible for stocking in new vehicles, snow removal, writing online car descriptions (that one is funny to me because it seems like a task more designated for the INT team, but who am I to decide that?), and so many more tasks that most other dealerships have other employees to take care of. I am feeling so much frustration because management has been promising us for more than 6 months that volume is expecting to be ramping up and it hasn't - if anything, it's been steadily slower and yet they have hired two new sales people (14 of us total now). I am only paid for the vehicle I sell and I feel the work here is not matching the compensation. Hell, even when the market was "great" I did not even clear $7,500 for a 5 week month delivering 18 cars.
I absolutely LOVE my coworkers, and I really do look up to my GSM and SM's - they have taught me so much and do so every day, however they aren't paying my bills. If things do not change NOW, I will lose everything my apartment, my car - it's not like I'm not putting in the hours and the hard work. I decided I planning to make a Swedish Alphabet Lore (idk if someone already did this before, but I want to make a foreign language alphabet lore).
Here’s some things you need to know
-V is the villain in this alphabet lore (LMAO VILLAIN STARTS WITH V 😭)
-Some of the plot will be different from the original English alphabet lore (Ex: there is not going to be a scene where the good letters become a cab or a car, unlike A, B, and C from the original alphabet lore) Some parts of the lore would might be similar (Ex: The villain letter having a childhood swear word like frick, dick, etc. V’s childhood swear word was Rövhål (@sshole), which means he gonna have trauma like F)

For context, I go to a small urban university in the midwestern United States. This Fall 2024, I will be entering my junior year in undergrad. • Definitely another independent research study for my degree's thesis capstone

• Hopefully some token clinical experience in ABA or in pubhealth, but I'm definitely prioritizing research experience

I'm aware that applying to a clinical program with developmental research experience is weird, but I needed an REU this summer and it was the only thing I got into. My independent study was more clinical in nature, too.
I know some of you might think I'm flexing, but I also feel like some of you will say I need to do WAY WAY more, which is why I'm nervous. We're in the process of adding in ducting and AC to a house built in 1998. They built a beautiful house, but the original owners decided AC wasn't necessary (because they're crazy?). We are using Mitsubishi ducted air handlers, and I'm torn on how to best integrate the ERVs into the systems we're installing.

Which ERV System Design Option Makes the Most Sense?

• Run ERV as Completely Separate Systems. Pull from bathrooms constantly, and duct fresh air supplies to bedrooms and common areas using their own independent ductwork
  • Pros: balanced system and can be balanced separately
  • Cons: Ductwork & silencers cost more than the ERVs themselves. We also are constrained in some areas on how we can get ductwork there
• Duct ERV Supply into Air Handler Return. We would still pull from bathrooms / kitchen, but would duct the supply air into the return of a central air handler system
  • Pros: Saves tons of ductwork and simplifies everything. It also conditions the intake and mixes it more to avoid potential temperature differentials
  • Cons: Can't be independently balances, and requires air handler fan to run constantly (planning on this anyway)
• Hybrid Mixture of Both Approaches: Have all the ERV pulls individually run, but have the ERV supplies go into air handlers as well as some strategic linear diffusers in different parts of the house

Questions

• What's the best approach to take for ducting?
• Is the supply air from the ERV is always uncomfortable, no matter how efficient the ERV is if we independently duct the ERVs?
• Has anyone hooked up an occupancy sensor to automatically trigger a "boost" operation with Zehnder ERVs?
• Is sticking with the ASHRAE minimum requirements (~487 CFM) the way to go, or is that way overkill on an older home?
• Am I over thinking it?
