2024.05.21 19:17 evolveandprosper Fiona is almost certainly NOT "mentally ill".

I am seeing repeated posts referring to Fiona as being mentally ill. However, I think there is a lot of confusion about the concept of mental illness. To be mentally ill, in the medical meaning of the term, you need to have a TREATABLE condition. However, there are some life-long "conditions" that are not treatable and which don't qualify for a mental illness diagnosis. For example, schizophrenia IS a mental illness because there are drugs that can be used to treat it. However, autism is NOT treatable and doesn't qualify. Similarly, there is a wide range of personality disorders, none of which is amenable to medical treatment and none of which qualifies as a mental illness. Fiona almost certainly has some kind of severe personality disorder, which means she isn't suitable for medical treatment. This explains why she can't be subjected to compulsory medical treatment or have her liberty restricted via a "section".
Unless/until she breaks the law to the extent that she is eligible for legal restriction or imprisonment, there is nothing that can be done to stop her and no help that can be given unless she consents.

2024.05.21 19:16 WanabeInflatable Writing RR/matriarchy fiction for fun?

It is difficult to find real life RR relationship. Especially not an option if you are already taken. There are various vents and one of them - reading or writing fiction. There were topics about RR in scifi written by prominent authors. But how about you? Do you write or maybe have ideas for fantasy setting or world-building? Please share.
Couple examples from me:
Setting 1. Right man in the wrong time
In XXI century experiments on recording human personalities started, a lot of people were "read" and saved on hard-drives, but there were no technology to create artificial bodies for them. So the personalities of test subjects, volunteers and commerical clients remained stored. In parallel genetic treatment research lead to tech that could exteng lifespan, but unfortunatelly it had side-effects of higher risk of cancer for men. As a result this tech only worked well for women. Because of that a lot of parents started to chose female gender for their kids, as their daughters could live much longer than sons. This shifted gender balance and led to female-dominated society. Which sort rewritten history portraing the past of male-dominance in shades of black and all the men of the past as abusive, power-hungry despots. It was backed by statistical facts such as drop in crime rate with reduction of male population.
Eventually the anti-male campaign receded and some interest and curiocity towards men returned, but there were few men left and they were often too spoiled and not very attractive. So there was a high demand for men in various spheres of, well, entertainment. Besides of lack of supply there was a conflict between romantized image of primal men and fear that their brute force may be too disruptive in a disarned pacifist decadent society. A commercial solution was found - a company manufactured artificial male bodies that were looking hot and attractive, big in all the right places, yet lacked the brute force, were very light and designed to be harmless to women. Even a teenage girl could easily overpower them. They used the stored consciousness of men from XXI century and put these men into new artificial bodies. Bodies were not cheap, so the resurrected men owed a big loan to the company and had to work basically for free to pay off the debt...
Story is about a girl who rented such a guy as a birthday present for herself. She had to return him soon, but they figured out that his knowledge can help her a lot with her studies. Despite some technological advance, few people of her epoch can really understand principles behind the science - they can use it, maybe replicate, but not understand or advance.
So besides a romatic affair they can work together to help her and studies and suddenly a "genius", once she makes a career and earn some money - she can pay off his debt. And until then - rent him from time to time for both pleasure and studies.
-- I liked the story but it is long abandoned --
Setting 2. Purple letter
Every invention can be used for evil. So called Selena transformation was quickly adopted by shady brothels - it allowed to transform women in ideal sex-slaves or walking sex-toys. Very attractive perfect bodies, not aging, able to move and speak, but weak and helpless, easily stored after "work shift" and unable to run away. This was of course against law, but went under radar for a while, a ot of women were converted against their will. Then one of them escaped with the help of a client who smuggled her from a brothel and was eventually killed by thugs. Nevertheless, she managed to get help went to TV. She told her story and that caused a huge impact. Police raided brothels and found thousands of victims... A lot of people went to jail, but public outrage shifted from those who run these illegal dens to those who paid for their services and were silent... This caused a political shift and a lot of blame by association.
Some male politicians, celebritites decided to voluntary undergo Selena transformation. This way they demonstrated solidarity with female victims and scored a lot of points. This was good for career and removed the burden of "male guilt" from them. This made them physically weak and thus not dangerous to women anymore. Also reduced their individual carbon footprint. Last but not least - change made them look more sexy.
Some militant feminists and these male allies gained more political power and pushed mandatory transformation for jailed criminals. Reducing their danger and also reducing costs of prisons. Transformation of men went to industrial scale: it reduced crime and also was "green". Eventually it become mandatory and special comission decided who and when must come to the tf-hospital and be transformed. They sent men so called "Purple letters" - instruction to come up and pass transformation. Job perspectives were sour for remaining "organic" as insurance discounts motivated business to fire organic men and only hire transformed, because they were safer for women.
Also transformed that didn't volunteer require a "guardianship" of a woman. Such as wife, girlfriend or female boss. If there is no such woman - guys are sent to adoption centers that are nicknamed "boyshops".
Plot of the story is about two friends that were transformed and soon adopted by two ladies. Not for "fun", or at least not just for fun. Ladies run a business and required some new employes, they figured that the can just purchase two guys instead of hiring them...
-- This story contains 4 chapters so far but is also on hold, not much readers' interest --
Just wanted to share the settings and hopefully read some RR-fantasy setting ideas you guys have

2024.05.21 19:12 fendi__fairy Manufacturers

Has anyone had different experiences with different manufacturers of generic Celexa?
This is the only antidepressant that’s not given me severely awful side effects + it actually made me feel happier rather quickly.
I only have 10mg. First, I got the tablet from Torrent Pharmaceuticals. No problem besides maybe a racing heart and slight pain in the chest? Otherwise, felt real happy…
Now, the pharmacy has given me a tablet from Mylan Pharmaceuticals. I don’t really like the lineup of inactive ingredients in this one so I’m scared to take it.
For example: • Sodium lauryl sulfate • Silicon dioxide • Yellow 6 • Even “croscarmellose sodium” is something bad, and can trigger allergics and inflammation?
Not sure how to feel about this new tablet from Mylan. I did more research, and the tablet from Teva Pharmaceuticals seemed the least terrible in terms of inactive ingredients. No Red 40 or Yellow 6. The Teva tablet is a pale beige color, and its coloring I believe is naturally-occurring.
Kinda lost about all this. I also spoke to a pharmacist, and they told me I probably experienced a mild bout of Serotonin Syndrome. Is it really possible on just 10mg? I don’t take any other drugs that affect serotonin…just a PPI and Famotadine. I do take a CGRP injection for migraine prevention, and the pharmacist said that it could have interacted. I did not know CGRPs affected serotonin. Guess you can either have chronic migraine or chronic depression lol. I have tried so many antidepressants. I trialed virtually all of them except Effexor. Then there are things like Viibryd and Trintellix but my insurance doesn’t cover those. I’m so annoyed. Serotonin Syndrome? Likely from a CGRP interaction? Damn lol wtf.

2024.05.21 19:09 anobrain0 DAE pwBPD misuse/weaponize therapy speak?

After being in a relationship with two pwBPD (yes I know lol), one relationship lasting two years and the other lasting a month, and reading through this sub, I notice a lot of pwBPD using therapy speak as a way to justify their abusive/wrong behavior. I think there is a time and place for “therapy speak”.. and that is AT THERAPY. They have also used their therapist as a way to escape accountability— example being “Oh my therapist said you need to ___” etc.
In my recent month of dating my exBpd, the final argument was when I didn’t heart her instagram story one time, after a build up of arguments over her not liking an inside joke we both have, and her being upset for me calling out her talking about her exes too much, and many other things. Im not sure what she wanted from the conversation (its in my post history) but I wasnt validating her enough and she said it was degrading.
Important context: I am autistic. She knows this and honestly brought it up DAILY. As an autistic person (diagnosed last year), being bombarded with long, emotionally charged paragraphs is overwhelming and draining.
My ex would romanticize? me being autistic, saying its “stoic and mysterious”.. but never held actual space for the things I experience and when I act authentically autistic she says i am not communicating well or Im being like a “cold vault”. Even though she made my autism my entire identity, as she did with her adhd and bpd.
I was expected daily to essentially "mind-read" and manage her long emotional outbursts, that were disguised in a “mature” way, using therapy speak, written like a letter to H.R, overuse of the words “boundaries” and “anxious/avoidant attatchment” , Me not wanting to deeply delve into a wall of texts back and forth for days on end about how me forgetting to like her story meant to her that i was “stonewalling” and “avoiding” and “not communicating” and she “doesnt deserve this treatment”. I communicated quite clearly and shortly while sticking to my boundaries and this upset her. She’d say “But you’re so emotionally intelligent, why arent you communicating with me?”
People who aren't truly committed to growth and healing honestly use these words /terms as a smokescreen to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions. It's a lot easier to say that you're "all about growth and healing and communication" than it is to actually do the hard work of examining your own behavior and making meaningful changes and having empathy for others. She also was not in therapy so its strange. My ex often asked me to “think for her” and work her through HER emotions like a therapist, and if i declined I was “stone walling”
Ive noticed this epidemic not just in bpd relationships but its the point where misuse/abuse of terms like “boundaries, attachment style, gaslighting,” and very long messages airing out your entire stream of consciousness to your partner has caused me an extreme burn out and become a bit of a red flag to me.
Im interested in anyone else’s experiences with this. Also if anyone else had to deeply delve into deep talks with them daily?

2024.05.21 19:07 hulkgorgon Bachelor Degree in Psychology is useless in Psychology/Mental Health field. Pursue it ONLY if you are rich. That's the truth of the field in Malaysia.

A bachelor's degree in Psychology while interesting, only realistically provides you with 2 types of jobs.
I will be talking about the second because of the broken system right now. In order for you to be certified as a therapist officially with a license, you need a Master's degree in that particular field. So if you want to be a child psychologist, clinical psychologist, or counselor, a bachelor degree is not enough. You might get a job that is titled ABA Therapist for a special needs center but ultimately, what you are doing is babysitting special needs children for an EXTREME underpaid salary. You won't be a certified therapist and can't diagnose children. You would think the salary would be at least above average given the field is somewhat related to health but no. It is on average RM2.5K and BELOW. (Some are 1.7K). There are several reasons for this.
  1. There is no proper training or seminar in Malaysia to help you understand better on how to help these children. The centers usually only give guidance for a bit and leave you on your own.
  2. Your job is to come up with tasks that YOU think could work rather than following some form of proven methods.
  3. You are handling the kids like a caretakebabysitter. Changing diapers, potty training, etc. If you are unlucky you might even have to become a driver to go to different houses to do sessions.
  4. The amount the parent pays for one month of class is unjustifiably expensive to the point of covering 2 employees' one-month salary combined. You are severely underpaid for the amount of physical work that is involved. MAJORITY of your job can be done by SPM holders. You are just a glorified babysitter who have to write a report every weekend. Some centers, do hire SPM holders.
Yes, if you are very passionate about Psychology and love children, this seems like a perfect job. But, in Kuala Lumpur, with less than 2.5K salary per month, some go as low as 1.7K for fresh graduates, and it is impossible to survive. There is also a career growth limit as mentioned before, you can't go anywhere without a Master's degree in this field. That is 40K extra you have to pay and 2 years to study. You won't be able to get salary increments because of how the structure works, you will forever be the "therapist" in the center earning less than 2.5k. I know some of my friends who worked for less than 2k when they went full-time.
My advice. DO NOT pursue the Psychology field if you are poor. Your love for children or mental health studies is great, but it will not cover your expenses and certainly will not help you survive in Kuala Lumpur. And if you have a Psychology degree and changed your mind, go for HR or data analyst jobs that pay 3k above and still utilize skills you learned from your degree. Or pursue a Master's and don't waste time in these centers.

2024.05.21 19:06 EducationalCreme9044 Why do so many of these foremost researches sound like quacks selling their books?

For example Jonathan Aviv, he paints a reflux / LPR patient as someone who drinks vinegar and juices etc. He makes authoritative statements that if you just buy his book you'll fix your reflux, with absolutely no warning indicating that for some it will actually be even worse, no, according to him everyone's reflux is the same, is caused by the same thing, in-fact everything can be healed if you buy his book and his new recipe book.
Doesn't discuss surgeries, doesn't discuss medication, no, all you need is his diet, completely ignoring the fact that for many people it doesn't work, or the fact that there are 5 versions of him all giving a different "cure all" to all reflux related symptoms, if only you buy THEIR book, and follow their DIFFERENT diet, that is guided by THEIR completely different explanation of what causes reflux.

2024.05.21 19:06 SillyDecoraKeiHyena Type me please!

Well i've already been typed as infp 6w7 but I've recently been pondering whether it's really something that fits me so I wanted to get other people's opinions on my typing.
• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
— I'm 19 years old and identify as non-binary (he/they pronouns). I am extremely extra, I am eccentric, I love alternative styles, I love arts in all its forms, I am extremely sentimental, I can be considered strange to many, I talk too much, I seem extroverted around introverts and I seem introverted around other extroverts, I get tired easily in social situations, so I always prefer to talk more via cell phone or computer. I'm very extreme and I can end up feeling very angry, very happy or very sad out of nowhere, I usually try to be kind but I can be rude or insensitive if I'm very angry, I'm a person who really likes to fight for causes aimed at minorities since I'm from several minority groups, I hate injustice, I'm very stubborn and I don't like being contradicted while I always try to be someone who takes various arguments into account.
• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
— I'm autistic, adhd, i have gad (generalized anxiety disorder) and i might also have depression.
• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
— I grew up in a Christian family, which hurt me a lot when I got older since my family's religion is against my existence as a queer person, and it took them a long time to admit that I needed psychological help and things like that. It's difficult to leave my roots but in the end I ended up stopping believing in my parents' religion after everything I went through.
• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
— I'm studying animation design at college, it's one of my passions and I really enjoy learning about the topics, I just hate the structure of taking exams and tests.
• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
— I would feel crazy, insane. I need the company of some people close to me to regulate myself and talk about things I like, being alone makes me feel empty and strange. So yeah i would feel lonely.
• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
— I'm terrible at sports and I hate them, my motor coordination is horrible. I prefer indoor activities because there is less chance of me overloading myself with something (example: feeling unwell because of the sun, heat, etc.)
• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
— I'm very curious, I love discovering new things, I have a lot of ideas at terrible times (in the middle of the night) and I really end up getting disorganized with the amount of things I think about. My ideas and curiosity are generally focused on creative processes like creating characters, universes, stories, but it can also simply be focused on a topic of interest to me (hyperfocuses / special interests). These are things that end up being more of a concept because I'm terrible at executing my ideas.
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
— I don't like being the leader of projects and things like that for the simple fact that I'm not good at handling responsibilities, so I prefer to just execute some order, my problem is that I also really like doing things MY way so it's a bit contradictory. However, in the moments when I have had to be a leader (I was forced to since my colleagues didn't want to do anything) I haven't been a bad leader, I research the project topics and let people choose their topics to present.
• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
— I'm not good at being organized or at things that involve motor coordination. For example, it took me decades to be able to tie my shoe laces, know which direction is right or left and I keep forgetting important dates. I don't like using my hands to do activities because they shake a lot and so I'm always horrible at things that involve using my hands. The only things I think I'm good at are playing games and drawing, and even then, drawing is an extreme challenge since I always put a lot of pressure on the pencil when I'm drawing or writing.
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
— Yes, art is something that I have loved since I was young because of the fact that I can express my creativity, ideas and feelings. I've always been passionate about cartoons so my drawing style is very cartoony. I really like seeing fanart from media that I love, but I also love seeing old paintings, especially from Roman and Greek times. I not only like drawing and painting, but I also love art in general. I love cinema, theater, books, sculptures, etc. One day I want to know how to write very well and be able to make books or even draw well enough to be able to make a cartoon. I want to be able to share the comfort I experience by seeing art that makes me feel happy and represented by doing something that also makes people happy through my art.
• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
— I have some regrets from the past, but in general I was more "normal" and happy back then, I wouldn't change anything because I follow the idea that my mistakes and successes made me who I am today. As for my present, I try to make the most of it but I'm not going to lie that I'm not a big fan of my current state, I feel a bit useless and very behind compared to most people I know my age so I end up preferring to think more about the future and how things will get better later. At the same time that I really appreciate some current moments of my present, like being able to play with my girlfriend most days, this makes me very happy.
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
— I like helping people, sometimes I even try to help people who didn't ask for my help if they are people I really like (I may end up being seen as inconvenient because of this). I always want to be able to help everyone, but currently because of my mood I may end up not being very helpful as my mental health is not the best, even so, I always try to be very patient and friendly with people who are going through difficult times, even when sometimes I just want to be left alone and I'm not in the mood to help anyone, especially because I know what it's like to be in a bad place and i don't want people to feel rejected.
• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
— I'm very sentimental and I often don't think very logically BUT in arguments and other serious situations I need people to use logic and proven arguments just like i do in those situations so that the debate or serious situation isn't just a bunch of nonsense. I am a sentimental person, but to develop some thought, I need logical arguments
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
— In general, I think it's very important, but I personally can't be productive and efficient since I have a lot of executive dysfunction. I KNOW it's important but I can't be like that.
• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
— I like things to be my way but I don't really think I control people? I always impose my opinions a lot but I don't really control people.
• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
— I like games, reading books, role-playing, drawing and even trying to write books. I really like fantasy things. It seems more fun than my reality and I like to distract myself from real life things.
• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
— I like learning things when they involve what I like or at least are more interactive and I hate math, chemistry and physics btw. I have a lot of difficulty with classes in subjects that require a lot of memorization, I prefer things that are relative and interpretative like arts and literature and I really like classes that involve creativity. I also hate classes where the teacher just talks and talks and talks and doesn't do anything interactive and fun. I generally prefer to study at home for very short periods of time because I learn easier alone and study very briefly because I have difficulty studying for long periods of time.
• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
— I'm terrible at planning things, I usually do things at the last minute and I improvise a lot.
• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
— I think I get a lot of inspiration from artists I like, such as Rebecca Sugar, Tyler Joseph and others. They are very creative people who do things that I really like (I love Steven Universe, which Rebecca Sugar created, and I love Twenty One Pilots, which is the band where Tyler Joseph is the lead singer).
• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
— My biggest fears are being alone, because it's scary not having anyone who understands you and who supports you and loves you, and being a burden to the people I love, because I don't want to be an extremely dependent and useless person and disappoint the people I love.
• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
— These are the days when I feel excited to do things and I can be productive doing everything I need in my routine as well as doing my hobbies and being able to relax.
• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
— These are the days when I feel sad, empty and discouraged, I can't do my routine tasks and I force myself to do them anyway in an extremely bad mood, my hobbies may even distract me on those days but it will be a strange feeling as if I'm not really excited to do what I like and I'm just distracting myself from my problems.
• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
— Ah, I don't have much attachment to reality and I prefer fantasy things, I constantly get caught up in my own thoughts and I prefer to create happy fantasy situations so I don't deal with my real problems. I'm also pretty distracted in general so regardless of whether I'm fantasizing or not I end up missing a lot of details and dissociating
• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
— I would probably try to distract myself by thinking about things I like or talking to myself, depending on if the day was bad I would eventually end up thinking a lot about my personal problems and becoming depressed.
• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
— I'm very slow and indecisive when it comes to choosing things, I always want to gather as much information about each option in my mind or by researching on the internet about it and then I always end up between multiple options and changing my mind several times until I arrive at a concrete result.
• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
— Some of my emotions may be processed much later than they should have been processed or simply be different from what people usually have. For example, I'm not very good at dealing with grief and I end up not showing the sadness that my other relatives do, but generally I feel my emotions in a very extreme and volatile way. I feel happy for very silly things and when I'm happy I'm VERY HAPPY and I get sad very easily and when I get sad I get VERY SAD.
• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
— Yes. I really like demonstrating my opinions and being authentic, it's a very important thing for me, but even so, I sometimes end up just remaining silent or agreeing with something that I don't really agree with because I'm too afraid of being hated and I generally want everyone to like me, even people I'm not very close to. However, I can also be a person with very strong opinions and be very stubborn about what I believe in if it is something linked to social issues or linked to things that I REALLY like.
• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
— I break rules that I believe don't make sense, if it's something that I think makes sense I'll follow that rule, but if it's stupid and I don't understand why I have to follow it I'll probably break the rule. I've also never been a person who understands authorities, for me anyone has the right to question something if it's not a useful or logical rule. I agree that rules are important but that they can be adapted, eliminated and added if necessary for people.

2024.05.21 19:05 batmanbury Email about application system down for maintenance July 1 - July 22

I'm reaching out to admissions to see if I can get an answer, but wondered if anyone here might know. The letter below says the system will be down, and during that time you may lose application progress. Hopefully they are just covering their bases, saying to back up your info, but how can we back up recommendations? Is it even possible during their maintenance they do something to lose this data, requiring us to resend recommendation requests? It seems a little extreme to say that, and basically remove a month and a half of preparation time to apply.
Have they gone through maintenance like this during other application periods?
Thank you for your interest in Georgia Tech. We are writing to notify you the Georgia Tech graduate application will be down for maintenance July 1 through July 21, 2024. While you can work on your Spring 2025 application during the maintenance period, you will be unable to submit your application and may experience loss of application progress as system updates are made.
To ensure a positive application experience, we encourage you to:
• Submit your application by June 30, 2024 at 11:50PM ET
• OR prepare required materials outside of the system during the application downtime and resume work on your application in the system when we relaunch on July 22, 2024.

2024.05.21 19:05 Subject-Upstairs-813 How do I stop breaking things?

I recently started breaking things when I’m having an emotional flashback? If that’s the proper term.
I was diagnosed with cptsd from an abusive childhood and I worked to heal it. I ended up in a relationship with my husband, who has recently been diagnosed with bipolar. He emotionally abused me on a weekly basis. He also physically abused me for approximately 10 times over the period of 4 years. The worst was when he put me in a chokehold and I almost blacked out. I thought I was actually going to die.
The physical abuse has stopped, but the emotional abuse is still going on. It’s on a lesser scale than before, but still not completely gone. He’s in therapy and getting stabilized on medication right now. It’s taking some time to find the right meds and dosages.
Anyhow, I’m not finding myself having really strong flashbacks, where I feel emotionally in the place I was when the abuse happened. For example he tickled me multiple times when we were joking around and I got triggered. I got angry and communicated with him not to ever touch him like that ever again. His response was to laugh at me and tell me I’m overreacting. I kept asking him to stop laughing, but he wouldn’t and I lost control. I broke two plates. This led to him telling me I’m crazy breaking plates over being tickled and he’s not breaking anything. So I brought up how he broke (injured) my wrist.
This progressed to him telling me it was my own fault for starting the fight… and he proceeded to bring up incidents where he hurt me in the past and how I caused them to happen. I kept begging him to stop, but he wouldn’t and wouldn’t. He pointed out that I was the one yelling and not him, even though I kept yelling for him to stop. I tried to cover my ears but he just spoke louder. I ended up losing it. I just threw plates, bowls, cups, on the floor. He then emotionally abused me during his manic episode triggered by this for 3 days to punish me for the way I acted over being tickled. No matter how much I apologized it wouldn’t end.
I’m in therapy and it’s been focused on me not reacting while he gets help for his mental issues. How can I control being triggered to the point of no return? I don’t want to be the abusive one breaking things because I can’t regulate my emotions. Any time something triggers me and I have an emotional reaction it triggers a bipolar episode for him. I need to be okay.
As a side note I have talked to him about ways to respond if my ptsd is triggered, but he’s not willing to be supportive. He says that my ptsd is my issue to deal with and I need to do what’s needed to calm myself down. He’s not the one triggering me on purpose, so I need to look at his intentions and manage my own feelings. If I can’t do that he said I can move out. I’m a stay at home mom of two and I don’t have anywhere to go.

2024.05.21 19:04 departedmoth Anyone else notice how nice techs are after imaging?

Imaging technicians are usually really nice from the beginning, but I've noticed this pattern. If my imaging is normal, they stay the same. If my imaging is abnormal, they go above and beyond to be nice. It's gotten to the point where I can almost predict if it's abnormal based on the way I'm treated after.
Whenever I get a DEXA scan or a thyroid ultrasound it's like I'm treated like a princess after. I honestly don't mind it, but I had one US tech freak me out, because every time she'd take a new picture she'd sigh heavily. Turns out my thyroid is covered in nodules.
It happens when I visit urgent care as well. As soon as I mention I have EDS, providers usually offer better medication and take me more serious. I'm thankful for it now, but I think I would've gotten diagnosed much earlier if I was taken a little more serious regardless of diagnosis.

2024.05.21 19:03 miniature_ranni I have a couple of questions about healthcare/prescriptions for my IEC Visa (UK to CA)

Hi, i'm purchasing my healthcare plan & travelling to Canada soon but i'm unsure of a few things.
I will be living in Toronto/Ontario as I think it's region specific for health care
I take a controlled substance (Vyvanse 50mg) for my diagnosed ADHD. Is this covered by my health insurance or result in any complications with continuing to access my medicine? I would be able to provide evidence and a diagnosis letter from my psychiatrist + support from my GP.
How would I go about accessing and receiving prescriptions once i'm in Canada?
My plan is to purchase the basic health care plan + excess fee from TrueTraveller, however i'm open to other providers if they would be a better fit.
Thank you so much!

Operator Roles, Trainings, and Specializations:
At TLB, we've structured our training program with your development in mind.
Basic Combat Training (BCT):
BCT is mandatory for all newcomers to Arma 3. In BCT, we lay the foundation by covering fundamental Arma 3 principles, including basic mod setup, introductions to custom assets, and tips for enhancing your experience during operations. Once you've completed BCT, you'll be eligible to join our operations.
RASP 1 (Required After BCT):
After successfully completing BCT, you can dive into our operations, where you're allowed to participate in up to two missions. However, to continue advancing within our unit, you'll need to complete our official training program, RASP 1.
Ranger Assessment and Selection Program 1 (RASP 1):
RASP 1 is mandatory for all members and serves as our primary training for rank progression. In this training, we focus on unit practices and advanced tactics, such as close-quarters combat (CQB) and close-quarters combat (CQC), among other vital skills. It's not just a requirement for ranking up; it's a key step toward assuming more significant roles within the unit.
While BCT is optional, we highly recommend it for newcomers to the game or those who've taken a break from Arma. BCT ensures you're well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

2024.05.21 19:02 Allucio Possible actions that short sellers could be executing to prevent the MOASS and what market traits could be affecting them.

Hey, guys I took my time to do a simple research and wanted to share the info here so you can share your opinion on this matter and realistically how long do you think this can take until shorts are forced to close their position triggering the MOASS?
Possible actions for gme short sellers to prevent triggering the MOASS:
Large Block Trades
What They Are: Large block trades are transactions involving a substantial number of shares, typically negotiated privately between large institutional investors or between an institutional investor and a broker. These trades are executed off the main exchange to minimize market impact.
Legality and Regulation:
Institutional Coordination
What It Is: Institutional coordination involves multiple institutional investors working together to manage their trades and positions, potentially to avoid significant market impact.
Legality and Regulation:
What could be affecting short sellers.
If short sellers take too long to cover their positions, time can work against them due to several factors, including the interest rates charged by brokers and other risks:
Brokers may require short sellers to maintain a certain level of margin. If the stock price rises significantly, short sellers might face margin calls, forcing them to either add more funds to their accounts or cover their positions, potentially at unfavorable prices.
Low trading volume indicates that the stock has low liquidity in the market. Therefore, this could go against shorts as they will have a harder time closing their positions without increasing the price. It's also well known that low liquidity, can easily exacerbated the upward price movement.

2024.05.21 19:01 Douglasjm Magic is Programming B2 Chapter 2: Feelings

Synopsis:
Carlos was an ordinary software engineer on Earth, up until he died and found himself in a fantasy world of dungeons, magic, and adventure. This new world offers many fascinating possibilities, but it's unfortunate that the skills he spent much of his life developing will be useless because they don't have computers.
Wait, why does this spell incantation read like a computer program's source code? Magic is programming?

"So, in short, the most stuck-up bully of my life is now begging for our help to fulfill his greatest dream, because we've happened to become his only remotely realistic hope of achieving it. Do I have that right?"
Carlos looked up from his plate of succulent roasted meats and vegetables, all covered generously with a rich gravy, and raised an eyebrow at Amber. They were in Mayor Stelras's personal dining room, enjoying the service of his personal chef. "You know you do. You've read the letter yourself, what, a dozen times now?"
Amber set the letter aside yet again and took another bite of her own lunch. "Yeah, I know. It's just…" She shook her head and chuckled. "Out of all the things that happened the last few weeks, this one is somehow the hardest for me to believe is real. It's ridiculous. I know it's ridiculous. I've personally met and spoken with royalty! Kindar should be nothing compared to that! But, somehow… This is hitting me harder than anything."
Carlos nodded calmly. "Makes sense to me. The presence of royalty is completely new to you. It's huge and important, and far beyond anything you ever expected might happen, but the only thing you've experienced before that's different is its absence. You don't have any memories in the back of your mind telling you 'that's not how this is supposed to work.' For Kindar, you have a lifetime of memories telling you that he's more powerful and better supported than you are, and that you're mostly helpless against his bullying. Now that you're the one in power, and he's the one helpless against you, that's not just new, but contradicts a lot of your past experiences. Some part of you in the back of your mind is having difficulty reconciling the contradiction; it's like you have a subconscious voice shouting 'that's wrong; it's not how this is supposed to work!' For meeting Princess Lornera, that voice is only confused and surprised, not feeling like something's wrong."
"Hmm." Amber cocked her head and paused. She looked down and idly speared another forkful of tender steak. She made a few more contemplative sounds as she chewed and swallowed. "That makes some weird kind of sense. I think." She shook her head. "How did you know that? I never would have figured it out."
Carlos chuckled. "Don't feel bad about it. Not many people would ever figure out that kind of thing about how human minds work without being taught. I certainly didn't. My dad's a therapist, and he taught me a lot."
Amber blinked, then blinked again. "I have never heard of that profession before. In fact, I think it doesn't exist here."
Carlos realized on reflection that "therapist" hadn't translated. There was no word for it in Ganler, the native language here. "Huh. … I hadn't thought about it, but I'm not surprised. It took a long time for people where I grew up to realize that kind of thing can be important. Or maybe the hard part was realizing that it takes education and training to do it well."
"Ah."
They ate mostly in silence for a while, occasionally humming in thoughtful consideration while they chewed. Eventually Amber was leaning on her elbow, just watching as Carlos scraped up a few last bits of gravy from his plate. She stared distantly at nothing. "Hmm… You know, I'm tempted to actually accept, just so I can rub his face in how I succeeded better at his own greatest ambition than he ever will."
"Hmm? Oh right, Kindar." Carlos chuckled. "I imagine a few sessions of smugly condescending to him would be rather cathartic revenge for you. Would it be worth the downside of helping him actually achieve his ambition, at least to a minor degree, though? I'm sure that if Darmelkon had any other viable options for helping his son with this, he would have taken care of it years ago. If we refuse, we'll be denying Kindar from achieving his ambition at all. Wouldn't that be better revenge?"
"Logically, yeah, that makes sense. But it just doesn't feel satisfying to me." Amber took a sip of water and pushed her empty plate away. "I want to show him how badly we outclass him now. I want to see his face when he realizes that he will never measure up to the 'annoying stupid girl' he used to tease."
Carlos put his hands together, resting his elbows on the table, and rested his chin on his hands as he looked at Amber. "Not to mention how much money Darmelkon will pay us for doing it." His voice was calm and level.
Amber nodded quickly. "Yes, that too."
"You realize we're already rich now, right? Receiving taxes, and all that."
Amber threw her head back laughed uproariously. When her laughter finally tapered off, she leaned forward and looked Carlos in the eyes. "You may have heard that Darmelkon is rich, but you clearly don't understand how filthy rich he really is. Yes, I was shocked when he offered a hundred gold bounty for finding us back before we became nobles, but that was only because I didn't know why he considered us valuable. For this? For helping his son achieve his otherwise impossible greatest desire? A price in platinum would be cheap! I would bet that he'll pay in mythril and be glad about it."
"Hmm." Carlos quickly did the math in his head. 100 gold was roughly equivalent in value here to a million dollars on Earth, and is also equal to 1 platinum. So 1 million dollars per platinum. 100 platinum is 1 mythril. So each mythril coin is around the same order of magnitude value as 100 million dollars. Just 10 mythril to match a billion dollars. "Okay, that's more than I thought. So he's a major business tycoon? What the hell is he doing living in a backwater in the middle of nowhere like Erlen?"
Amber shrugged. "I have no idea. Ask him."
Carlos stared for a moment and snorted. "I suppose it doesn't matter." He took a deep breath. "Alright, I guess we're at least seriously considering it after all. So, let's break it down, pros and cons. Pros: personal satisfaction for you, Darmelkon loses any basis for claiming we still owe him a favor, and we get a ridiculous amount of money. Cons: Kindar becomes a noble. Also, we have to put up with him being here for a while. Anything else?"
"Another one for pros: Even with the favor and Darmelkon paying so much, Kindar himself will personally owe us, bigtime." Amber grinned. "His house will just about be permanent vassals in service to us."
Carlos hesitated, then frowned. "… Just how much, and how long, do you intend to keep paying him back for how he treated you?"
Amber raised an eyebrow and shrugged. "…Until I get tired of it? I don't know."
"I'm all for giving him a well-deserved comeuppance, turning the tables, and giving him a taste of his own medicine to teach him a lesson. But I will not countenance continuing to humiliate and abuse him long term!" Carlos shook his head emphatically. "If we do that, we would be bullies just as bad as he was. I hate bullies, and I refuse to be one."
Amber slowly lowered her eyes, blushed, and nodded shyly. "I… You're right. That is not the kind of person I want to be. I'm sorry for suggesting it."
Carlos leaned forward and reached out to gently put his right hand on top of her hands. "It's okay. What's important is that you recognize your mistakes, learn from them, and make yourself a better person. My parents taught me that very, very thoroughly."
"Yeah." Amber sighed and shook herself. "Thanks. I'll try to remember that. And… Should we just call off the whole idea?"
"Only if you truly want to." Carlos squeezed her hands gently. "If you can get some satisfaction without taking it too far, then that's completely okay, and you were right that there are serious benefits to it. Even having him as a vassal house, as long as we treat him reasonably. Though… Hmm." He frowned. "There has to be a reason why strong noble houses aren't raising up new vassal nobles all the time, right? It's not all that hard to make a noble soul plan if you know the requirements details."
"I suppose. Lorvan probably knows the reason."
Carlos nodded. "Yeah. I feel like he might just ask if we can figure it out ourselves, like he did about nobles keeping mana wellsprings, though…" He shrugged. "I'm sure Darmelkon knows too, and he wouldn't have asked if the Crown forbids it, or anything like that. He's ambitious and ruthless, not stupid. We should ask, certainly, but I expect any consequences we might have overlooked will be manageable. As I see it, the core question is just…" Carlos reached his other hand forward, firmly clasped and lifted both of Amber's hands, and looked her in the eyes. "Amber, what do you want to do with this?"
Amber stared back for a moment, then averted her gaze. "Don't you have an opinion about this too? Why are you only asking me?"
"Of course I have an opinion, but all he did to me was loan me a sword in a dungeon and then act rude and arrogant when he demanded it back afterward. You are the one who grew up being bullied by him. How to treat him matters far more to you than it possibly could to me." Carlos squeezed Amber's hands reassuringly. "Amber, please, look at me." He waited, and after a few seconds Amber hesitantly turned her head to face him directly again. "My opinion on this is that I want our response to be something that you will be content and happy with. All other relevant considerations that I can think of are less important than that."
Amber stared and slowly nodded. "I… Thank you." She squeezed Carlos's hands back and awkwardly extracted her hands from his grip so she could lean forward and rest her head on them, propped up by her elbows on the table. "I think… I do want to accept, but maybe with some conditions. I still want to show him up in person and see his reaction. Part of me still feels afraid of him, and I want to prove to myself that he doesn't have the power to threaten me anymore. That seems like something your 'therapists' would say something about. Would they say it's a good idea? Do you know?"
Carlos nodded. "Yes, absolutely. Standing up to something you used to fear is a great way to resolve residual fear of it that lingers in your mind."
"Then, yeah. I want to do that, and I do still want to get some payback." Amber hesitated. "But if I start bullying people like he did, I'd start hating myself as soon as I realize it. So, no bullying. And that goes for Kindar too. If he can't learn to stop being a bully, then he doesn't deserve what he wants. Let's give him a chance. Make our conditions clear, and demand partial payment up front, but give him an opportunity to earn our help."
"That sounds fair." Carlos cocked his head and frowned in thought. "Having him with us may require adjusting some of our plans. … Actually, we're overdue for making certain plans in the first place. I got a bit too carried away with my excitement over all the spell keywords we can learn now. Sorry."
Amber grinned. "Have you forgotten that I told you I'm well known for always having a plan? What do you think I've been doing the past two days?"
Carlos raised an eyebrow, then grinned back at her. "Oh really? Let's see what you've got!"

2024.05.21 18:59 vu051 Yesterwynde Merch List

This is an accompanying post to my one about Vinyl LP variants, so click there if you're interested in those. I was going to add this on the end but realised it would make the post absurdly long... Pls comment if anything's wrong or more merch pops up
There seem to be two album cover-ey base designs, "Timeless" and "Yesterwynde" - "Yesterwynde" is literally the cover, with boat and chain, and "Timeless" is a slightly different spiral with butterflies and a pocket watch. Otherwise, some merch has YW ornate letters with varying design embellishments.
These are all the shops I've found so far with merch. I've included the CDs for info but the standard and earbook 3CDs are available in many other places as well.
All of these are different designs unless specified.

2024.05.21 18:57 CholaPeroBonita Seeking Career Guidance and Support: 3+ Years on This SWE Journey

Hi, all! 👋

Intro/Question:

Let me just start out by saying that I’ve been on here for a little while and have admired not only the persistence, dedication, and grit of the women on here, but also the kindness and support in comparison to other groups. I wish I could give/get hugs from you all because a lot of you seem like such wonderful people, and I could really use some of that kindness in my life at the moment.
Now, I guess I’ll get right into my reason for posting this: I’d love some advice/insight/thoughts from y’all on recommendations for my next steps in this career transition towards software development because I’ve been struggling for awhile with finding a FT or even PT role.
Throughout this time, my mental health has also declined greatly (while on this journey, I’ve actually started antidepressant medication for the first time ever because my mental health has exponentially decreased, and have also seen a few different therapists in the same span of time).

VERY brief overview of my journey thus far:

Early Education: Growing up in a predominantly white community outside the main city, I was put into ESL classes despite being born in the U.S. I'm Latina, and my parents--who knew little English at the time--agreed with everything the educators suggested. This meant I was often taken out of critical science and math classes to make time for ESL work. Despite being a straight-A student, I had to work harder than others, and I believe this was one reason why.About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with combined ADD/ADHD. As a kid, it often took me longer to complete my work. My parents noticed but assumed it was just the way I functioned. My mom often recounted how I needed a "million" breaks while doing homework, which often led to late nights. Despite these struggles, I managed to stay on top of my studies.
Undergrad Education (2015 - 2019): I am a first-gen college grad and earned a bachelors in biochem & environmental science summer 2019. I discovered computer science during my junior year of college (by then, it was too late to take more courses in CS let alone attempt to make a switch without staying an extra year, which my scholarships would not cover). After graduating college, I was still interested in learning more about CS, so I took an Introduction to Programming in C course at my local community college, and not only earned an A, but also thoroughly enjoyed the content.
Grad School (Spring 2022): Enrolled in an online Masters in CS at Case Western Reserve University for those without CS degrees with a $30,000 grant from the dept. Took Discrete Mathematics and Algorithms & Data Structures in Java (those of us w/o a CS degree had to pass these before being able to move into the rest of the program where we’d be merged with those who DID have CS degrees), but paused due to my younger brother's unexpected passing.
Bootcamp (Fall 2022): Received a full-ride scholarship to a bootcamp (1/15 out of 1200 applicants accepted) where I learned full-stack development with Python, JavaScript, SQL, Flask, AJAX, and React, among other technologies. Graduated December 2022.
Further Learning (Spring/Summer 2023): Accepted into Code the Dream’s React course, dedicating over 20 hours per week to mastering React all while volunteering to work on open-source projects.
Internship (Fall 2023 - Present): I was interning at an early-stage Ed Tech startup up until the end of April, contributing to building an app from the ground up. I Gained experience in code writing/reviewing, CI/CD methodology, technical communication, and working on a software development team along with other teams like the content team and design team.

Struggles/Thoughts:

I have been consistently applying for FT/PT roles, internships, etc. with nothing but maybe 4 interviews since graduating from my bootcamp. In addition, I’ve been tweaking my resume for jobs that I feel I could be a particularly good candidate for using Jobscan with no luck.
With regards to the startup, they’ve informed me that they do not have sufficient funding to bring me on. Furthermore, about a month after the internship contract officially ended, the other female intern (graduated from the same bootcamp, although different cohorts) at the startup also let me know that she was being brought on again for an extended contract, and asked if I was offered the same—to which I replied that no, I wasn’t. I guess she also has an associates in CS, which also helps and I am not mad at her for anything and support her and uplift her, but as you can imagine, I am a little disappointed (more in myself than anything, I guess). It just makes me feel a bit crushed. I made myself always available (even after hours), replied quickly, got along super well with everyone, got my tasks all done for the most part. ==> Towards the end, I was tasked with a particularly difficult task, and was able to get through a good chunk of a new game, but was not able to fully finish. During this period, I was also struggling to get ahold of my ADHD meds, but they seemed to be out of stock everywhere, so that also didn't help.

Next steps:

I’m debating whether I should just keep applying, find some other program (AS/BS/MS), or just stop this trajectory altogether (although, I REALLY hope that I won’t have to because it would probably break me 😔).
I know that my math skills probably aren’t on par with those of others in the field, and I know that I need to work on those as well, so if you have any suggestions for free resources for that/what I should focus on with regards to teaching myself these concepts I’d also really appreciate it. I'm currently taking the Harvard CS50 course for credit as well as a Mathematics for Machine Learning course on Coursera (they state that this is for people of all math levels).
I’ve learned a lot and am passionate about continuing to grow as a software engineedeveloper. Any advice on next steps, opportunities, etc. that you feel may be relevant would be greatly appreciated. Thank you SO much if you read this far! 🫶

2024.05.21 18:51 monniachia Evidence for Hearing Loss Claim?

Just looking for advice on best practices for filing a claim with no documentation.
I got out almost two years ago, I definitely have tinnitus and some amount of hearing loss but i’ve never gotten checked out for it. I was a medic in the reserves, and when we deployed senior leadership had a HUGE distaste for those who came in to get checked out for things like that, claiming they’re just pieces of shit trying to get free money. From their perspective I kind of get it, a lot of them deployed when there was much more going on and they’ve been affected by far worse than hearing loss so it’s easy to just scoff at us who have issues that aren’t combat related. I genuinely wanted to be a good soldier and so I kind of adopted the same judgy mindset. I was also a female in a mostly male unit, so I really had a lot of “proving” to do and didn’t want to give any reason to be viewed as weak.
Being out of that environment and listening to friends and family, i’ve had a bit of a change of heart. I really do struggle to hear things that others have seemingly no problem hearing. I get migraines that I believe may possibly be related, and if i’m qualified to receive payment for it i’d obviously like that. But talking to friends who have gone through the claim process i’m getting mixed advice on the best way to get started so that leads into my ultimate question..
Being that I have no documentation, should I go to an audiologist before filing a claim? or should I file a claim, state I have no documentation, attach a letter from my partner who has witnessed how it affects me, and wait for whatever exam they want me to go to?
there are a couple other things i’d like to file for, but also have little or no documentation so i figure the hearing loss is a good starting point.
