2024.05.21 11:26 Severe_Lettuce7237 Can heat pumps cool your house?

I’m looking into getting air con for my house but someone suggested that I look into a heat pump instead so I could use the govt grant. Does anyone know if a heat pump actually can cool as well as air con? Is there a major difference?
Does air to air vs air to water matter? I think the grant only covers air to water.
Any help would be awesome!

2024.05.21 10:48 yummieinmytummy99 What car should we choose?

We need help to choose wich car to get. Our garage acknowledges the problem with our car and said we can change it for another one. My family has good ties with this (in the past Honda dealer) garage and the owner is a good friend.
Our car: Honda jazz 1.2 , 2012 bought it last year. Red, 102.000 km.(bought with 94.000 on it) imported from Germany. Dont know previous owners or what happened with it and our warrantee expires this august.
Within this year we've had 2-3 problems with the enginepump, garage fix it. But the problem came back. ANWB said it was the electric part of the pump so now were gonne go get it fixed since our garage also said its a very weird thing happening for a honda jazz, and will fix it. He said: its rare and its the only thing left in that area that can be "broken". This all for free ofcourse.
Were going to Sweden within a month wich is why we want the car to be safe.. and not get stranded in sweden.
The car we can switch our red one for: Honda jazz 1.4 comfort 2010, 77.000km. silver. This car has been with this garage since the owner bought it as a new car there (2010) So 1st owner, an old guy, not alot of km's on it for the amount of years... we get another new year of warrantee on this car as the red one expires this august.
The question now is, do we keep our red car (where we KNOW what is wrong, and can still drive if it breaks again). Or do we go with the silver one, with the chance of things breaking that cannot "easily" be fixed..? Our fear is if we get the silver one, something important will need changing or gets damaged cus wel will take it on a long ride to sweden and its used to...small trips.. (cus of the 77.000km.)
Eventho everyone says its very rare ofcourse for honda jazz to have problems in the first place.
To make things "easier"... We have installed a touchscreen to fit in the honda jazz and my boyfriend is too tall for the car. Wich is why they made the rails of his driving seat longer. Meaning: We would have to change the screen and all its wires again and let them fix the rails, if we take the silver one... All within a month cus were going to sweden with it.
What do you guys say.?

2024.05.21 10:20 mahajte Problematic situation

Good day to all,
Im in need for some advice. Bought new air to water heating pump made by NuLite.
Pump was working perfectly whole season in dual mode, heating+DHW. At one point the outside temperature went above 8’c and i noticed first problems.
DHW mode is working perfectly, pump is doing whats it supposed to and never had any problems while in DHW. When in heating mode, 3 way valve switches position from DHW like it should, fans start, circulation pump starts, compressor starts and it all looks normal. Pump stays in HEATING mode for 30sec-2minutes and just stops, everything turns off and valve goes back to DHW where it stays for some time until the cycle repeats.
I have changed the control board, service brought new one thats in charge of switching between modes and the problem remains.
Have checked for amount of fluid in system, pressure, coolant, 3 way valve and it all passed as not problematic.
When in single mode, doesnt matter if its COOLING, HEATING or DHW, pump isnt showing any problems, everything works well.
Problem is that I have bought a new boiler that was meant to be used by heat pump and now the boiler is working separately with its own power source.
Cant find reasonable solution or what to check for because of the very strange way the pump acts. Service and producer are trying to find a solution but nothing yet works.
Does anyone here have some kind of an idea what should i do or check further for?
Ty all in advance

Robo mower repair
So I accidentally broke this off whilst replacing battery.
Mower wouldn’t power up.
Taped it back in place, mower powers up but gives me errors when looking for boundary wire.
So pretty certain it’s this guy in the pictures.
What’s the best way to repair?
Heat gun the rest is the damaged part off and leave some solder in place to apply the replacement part?

2024.05.21 09:24 DrSenpai_PHD How should I hook my amplifier positive into this?

How should I hook my amplifier positive into this?
Kicker CX 800W amp, old 12" Kicker Subwoofer, stock head unit in 1996 Saturn SL2.
My positive terminal is a single rubberized piece that does not separate easily. I don't want to put a ring terminal between the copper washer and the battery since it would be ajar, hurting positive terminal contact.
The cable at the bottom of the first photo heads over and bolts into my fuse box. Could I undo that bolt and put my ring terminal on there? To be clear, this would be tapping power BEFORE the fusebox -- I'll comment a wiring diagram on this post.
The only risk I foresee is that now the current for all my cars electronics + the amp is going through that single wire. If I could put a ring terminal right on the battery, current would for the amp would be through it's own wire.
I have no plans to crank this system very high since I have a stock alternator. Thoughts?

Not sparking
Hello, I had an issue of my motorcycle not sparking and after 3 weeks of fiddling, testing and research I ended up replacing the entire wiring harness of my 1999 Honda cb250, this worked and let the bike run again however I had to re wire all the controls lights and sensors again. Now my research didn’t come from here and after I got it running again I thought I should have come here but luckily my bike has blessed me with the same issue.
Obviously it’s some form of lose contact but I’m sure I’ve checked everything on the ignition wiring diagram. I don’t want to pull the bike apart again so someone give me some ideas. Thanks

2024.05.21 09:19 NerdyRotica Sculpting dragon wings

I've been making dragons for years and years, but the wings are always the hardest part. I've tried using wire mesh as a support, but it's very fiddly to work with and ends up looking too rigid. I like the wing membranes to have a certain amount of sag and stretch to feel natural. So I usually just have the armature for the wing wingers and then lay a thin layer of clay over it and VERY DELICATELY work it in. It works, but it's very stressful and I've often had to redo them if the clay tears.
But I've recently found another artist (Rivalmit on Deviantart) who has an absolutely lovely method for very natural and stretchy looking wings - they stretch out some nylon fabric over the wing armature, pin it in place, then coat it in what appears to be white glue so that when it dries it has some rigidity. Then trim the edges and work in a very thin layer of clay over that for detailing.
The problem is that I think they work in air-dry clay, and I work exclusively with super sculpey, so I have serious concerns about how well that would hold up to the heat of the oven. I have a feeling that the white glue would melt, bubble up or warp and the nylon would just shrivel up into nothing. Maaaaaybe having the clay on there as well would hold it together but I'm not sure. Ideally I would like to ask this artist for their tips and tricks, but I can't force someone to see the messages and reply. If all else fails I'll just have to do some small trial and error tests.
Does anyone have any insights on how to make this work?

2024.05.21 08:52 marakith Why is this all so hard and confusing!?!

Hello
I've a lot of questions but also some rants, so please bear with me.
I'm planning to install a heat pump whilst we do a ground floor extension. We need to do all the work at the same time because our gas meter is in the way of the new structure, so we want to install the water tank, disconnect the gas, and then install the heat pump.
The cheaper providers out there, like Octopus, were not interested as they wanted everything built before we install the pump. I don't want to do that for the reasons above, and also because I don't want to rip up our flooring to put the pipes in just a few months after the extension goes in.
Independent installers have mostly ballparked a 12kw Vaillant unit. Some have estimated anywhere from £20k down to £6900k for the install. That's not including radiator upgrades.
We went with a local firm for £6900. The Heat Loss survey was £600 but would be offset against the install. Nobody came, and instead they worked off plans. I was even asked to measure some spaces to check height clearance for the tank, which I refused to do. Eventually after I protested, someone from the company came round, didn't look around the house (apart from checking the headroom), and said that we should just run the system and see if the radiators we have are adequate. When I asked if I'd need planning permission for such a big unit, I was told that it was a formality and would take 3 weeks, maximum, and that they couldn't advise whether the pump would overload our 60A electricity supply.
Anyway - I've lost confidence in this firm. I'm now talking to another firm that has quoted £7000 (I'd have to write off the sunk £600 with the other firm). They recommend replacing the radiators (to avoid gunk damaging the new system), and also zoning the house into 3 zones across the 3 floors. He also advised using standard pipes (not armoured) to go through the garden from the house to the heat pump, and said he'd thread them through drainpipe for protection. We'll be digging the trench to 60cm.
We put in planning to site the 12kw pump about 5m from the back of our row of houses, placing it in a flowerbed. Now the neighbours are kicking off because they're worried about noise pollution. They also, interestingly enough, have an air conditioning unit against their back wall on the patio.
So I guess my questions are:

2024.05.21 08:10 coke_can_turd New Owner

Hi-
Recently picked up a Scrambler 400X, and have a novel incoming.
I'll be posting in this sub as I toss on a few mods and document any issues with this new platform. I try to avoid Facebook Groups since search engines don't pick up the posts and the info ends up in a black hole surrounded by spam; if you find this sub I suggest you do the same. Here's a quick overview of my first week of ownership and a few opinions about the bike in the short time I've owned it for those looking to pick one up.
After got trailered the bike home, I turned the key to the on position and tried cranking it about halfway through the needle sweep in my excitement to get my first ride in. I got nothing. Turned the key off then back on, waited for the sweep to complete, and it finally started but with a check engine light to accompany it. I was bummed obviously.
Turns out that there is an issue with the programming on the ECU. On some of these bikes, if you try starting it prior to the system scan completing it will toss a check engine light for code U0167. There is a software update available or soon to be available that resolves this according to the dealer I bought the bike from. They said it would be ready by the time I bring it in for first service. In the interim, as long as you wait for the needle sweep, you won't throw a code.
I cleared the code with a scanner after leaving the battery disconnected overnight to no avail as a few groups suggested. I highly recommend this $20 OBDII scanner. It's actually decently made and functional; I've used it on cars for a while and it works to read/clear codes. It auto detected the protocol on the 400X first try. You'll need a 6 pin adapter to interface with the 400X (and probably Speed as well) - I picked this one up. You can't reset the service icon with this, only check and clear engine codes.
After that bummer was rectified, I've spent the past week putting ~400 miles on the bike around NYC and here are some observations:
That's all for now. Overall, it's a great bike and I'm pumped to be riding it for the next few years.

Recently, I had the pleasure of testing out the 8CH Expandable All in One Wireless Security Camera System with 10.1" Monitor. This outdoor camera kit, Cromorc Home Business, comes with a Network Video Recorder system and outdoor camera that allows you to follow in real-time what's happening around your home or business. The NVR system offers a 10-inch LCD monitor that connects automatically with the 4 cameras without the use of wires.
One of my favorite features of the Cromorc system is its high-resolution Full HD video of 1920 * 1080P and night vision with clear images thanks to the 3 integrated Infrared Array LEDs. I was impressed by the camera's ability to record day or night up to 7/7 and extend the viewing distance to 20 meters. Additionally, the cameras have a metal housing and IP66 weatherproof protection, which is perfect for outdoor usage.
However, I did notice a slight drawback in the night vision quality. The range at night is not as great as expected, but overall, the system is good for the price. The motion detection function notifies you with a real-time SMS on your smartphone through the IP PRO application on iOS or Eseecloud on Android's Google Play, which is quite helpful.
In conclusion, the Cromorc Home Business is a reliable and expandable outdoor security camera system that offers a convenient and easy-to-use monitoring solution. With its Full HD video quality, night vision, and motion detection features, this system makes an excellent choice for securing your home or business.

I recently tried the Cobra FV-CV1 Full HD Cabin-View Camera and it exceeded my expectations. The 120° field of view and adjustable recording angle made sure I could capture the entire cabin interior in stunning detail. The infrared night vision function was particularly useful, as it captured the interior footage in crystal-clear clarity even during the darkest hours.
The installation process was a breeze, with the simple plug-and-play mechanism. It took just seconds to install it in my SC 200. The only downside I encountered was that I couldn't use the front and rear facing dash cam at the same time.
Overall, Cobra FV-CV1 has become an essential addition to my daily life, offering peace of mind and ensuring I'm prepared for any incidents on the road.

🔗Ultimate Smart Dash Cam - 2023 Editor's Choice Winner

https://preview.redd.it/b8rth58i0q1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f1c1c00a62ed4651660d1cd1445e49337eaac6f
As a savvy driver, I was always on the lookout for the perfect dash cam. That is until I came across the Cobra SC 400D. A friend of mine recommended it, and I was surprised at how intuitive it was to use. The real-time alert system and Alexa integration were just some of the features that made this dash cam feel like it was made for me.
The Cobra SC 400D Ultimate Smart Dash Cam boasts a sleek touch screen, which I found incredibly easy to navigate while driving. I also appreciated the voice command feature which, although still a work in progress, added a level of convenience I hadn't seen before.
However, nothing in life is perfect, and the Cobra SC 400D wasn't immune to its quirks. The app-based Drive Smarter community integration could be frustrating at times, as it required an unpredictable WiFi connection and the occasional firmware update. Moreover, I encountered a minor issue with the GPS mount attachment, which was tricky to align at first.
Despite these problems, the Cobra SC 400D proved to be an excellent dash cam, providing me with a reliable solution to record my journeys and monitor my surroundings. It's an ideal companion for anyone looking to enhance their driving experience.

One sunny afternoon, I decided to take my Cobra SC 100 Single-View Smart Dash Cam on a test run. The setup was quick and easy, and the dash cam's sleek design remained inconspicuous behind my rear view mirror. As I headed off on my journey, I couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort knowing that my every move on the road was being captured in crystal-clear Full HD resolution.
The Cobra SC 100 boasts a plethora of features that ensure your safety on the road. With continuous loop recording, I knew that I wouldn't miss any key moments. The emergency Mayday alert system was a particular highlight for me, as it gave me peace of mind knowing that I could quickly alert emergency contacts in the event of a severe accident. The dash cam's Parking Mode and Motion Sensing functionality also made me feel more secure, as I knew that it would be keeping an eye on my vehicle even when I wasn't in the driver's seat.
However, there were a few aspects of the Cobra SC 100 that didn't quite live up to expectations. While the app's connectivity was smooth, I found that the GPS location and speed information were only embedded in the video clips intermittently. This, coupled with the occasional sound recording that I couldn't seem to turn off, left me feeling a bit frustrated.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Cobra SC 100 proved to be a reliable and impressive product. Its sleek design, easy setup, and wealth of advanced features made it a worthwhile investment for anyone seeking a reliable dash cam.

The Cobra CDR 820 HD Dash Cam has been a reliable companion in my daily drive. The ultra-compact size allowed me to install it discreetly, and the 1.5" LCD screen made it easy for me to review the footage. The wide 118-degree angle ensured that I could capture clear videos from any angle, even in long-range situations.
The product's pros include its ease of use, seamless installation, and the ability to record high-quality videos with impressive detail. The camera also featured a motion sensor and G-sensor for automatic recording and protection of crucial footage during accidents, which was a nice addition.
However, there were also some minor drawbacks. The battery life was relatively short, and I had to rely on a 12V power source to keep it running. The sensitivity of the G-sensors seemed to be too high, causing unnecessary "locks" for even minor vibrations. I had to disable the motion sensor and G-sensor to avoid these issues.
Despite these drawbacks, I am satisfied with the Cobra CDR 820 HD Dash Cam's performance. It captured clear images, had a user-friendly interface, and offered easy access to recorded footage. It's worth investing in a dash cam for added security and peace of mind.

I recently installed the Cobra SC 200D dual-view smart dash cam in my car, and I must say, it's been an interesting journey so far. This little gadget has captured some stunning footage of my daily commute, and the ability to switch between front and rear view is a game-changer. The 3-inch LCD screen is the cherry on top, allowing me to review the footage right there on the spot.
However, there have been a few hiccups along the way. For starters, the voice command feature didn't quite work as advertised. Sometimes it missed my commands, and other times it responded with the wrong action. It would be nice if the technology was a bit more reliable in this area.
Additionally, I found the app to be a bit tricky to navigate at times. It took me a few tries to figure out how to download the clips and upload them to the cloud storage. A more user-friendly interface would have made this process much smoother.
Overall, the Cobra SC 200D has its ups and downs. While it provides a great view of my surroundings and captures some lovely footage, the voice command feature and app could use some refining. But all in all, it's been a worthwhile addition to my car.

Another great aspect of this dash cam is the hands-free voice commands and safety features. The built-in WiFi and GPS made sharing and storing footage incredibly convenient, while the incident reports and Mayday alerts provided a sense of security. The continuous loop recording and emergency Mayday alert, along with the motion sensing and advanced driver assistance, ensured maximum protection for my car and me.
However, I did experience a few drawbacks. At times, the dash cam would stay on even after I turned off my car, which was quite frustrating. Additionally, the app occasionally crashed or froze, which made it difficult to access the video files. I also noticed that the app interface changed after the company updated it, which caused some confusion.
Overall, the Cobra Smart Dash & Rear Cam SC 200D QHD 1600P WiFi GPS is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to enhance their driving experience. With its impressive features and stunning video quality, it's a product I'd highly recommend.

🔗Cobra SC 400 4K Smart Dash Cam with GPS, Extra Features, and Alexa Integration

This past month, I got my hands on the SC 400 Smart Dash Cam by Cobra. As a daily driver, I was really excited to try it out and see how it would make my commute safer and more convenient. Right out of the box, the camera felt solid and well-built. The mount attachment was easy to install, ensuring a secure placement on my windshield.
The first thing I noticed was the 4K UHD resolution, which made the video footage incredibly clear. It captured every detail, and the color accuracy was impressive, even when driving on sunny days or through challenging weather conditions. The wide-angle lens also made it easy to keep an eye on my surroundings. However, one downside was the footage quality during low-light situations; the camera could have done better in this regard.
Another standout feature was the GPS mount attachment, which allowed me to track my route accurately. The extra adhesives that came with the package were a nice touch, ensuring the camera remained firmly in place. The vehicle charger and micro USB data cable made it simple to power the camera and transfer files to my computer or phone.
One of the most appealing aspects of the SC 400 Smart Dash Cam was its built-in Alexa capabilities. With just a few voice commands, I could control the camera, start and stop recording, and even make it switch between the front and rear cameras. The heads-up navigation feature was a game-changer, helping me stay on track and avoid any unnecessary detours.
However, there were a few issues I encountered. Firstly, the DriveSmart app, which is required to upload files and access additional features, left much to be desired. Its user interface was clunky, and frequent updates were required to maintain compatibility with the camera. Additionally, the app's connection issues and lack of support for popular navigation services like Google Maps or Waze were disappointing.
Overall, the Cobra SC 400 Smart Dash Cam has some great features that make driving safer and more convenient. While it's not perfect, it offers a solid solution for those looking to stay protected on the road.

🔗Dual-View Dash Cam with iRadar for Enhanced Road Safety - Cobra

A few weeks ago, I spent some time trying out the Cobra DASH2316D drive HD front and rear camera dash cam with iRadar. The front-facing 1080p HD camera captures everything happening on the road, while the 160-degree wide angle lens at the rear provides ample coverage for everything behind me. The user interface is a breeze to navigate as all the important settings and features are neatly laid out for easy access.
The 16GB microSD card does the trick in storing recorded footage and ensuring that critical events are preserved. However, as I found out, it fills up pretty quickly, and you may have to swap out the card every few weeks depending on how much footage you've captured. The built-in G-sensor automatically detects impacts, saving those precious moments.
What really impressed me is the iRadar feature which provides real-time updates on the locations of speed cameras and police activity. This handy tool allows me to know exactly where I should keep my eyes peeled, or to strategically plan my route to a hotspot of activity (though that might not always be a bad thing).
However, there is always room for improvement, especially in today's technology-driven world. The main con I've experienced is the occasional unresponsiveness of the app. At times, it took a few attempts to refresh or open the iRadar app for speed camera updates.
Overall, the Cobra DASH2316D delivers decent performance in terms of video quality, storage space and crucial features that make for an essential dash cam. It's not perfect, but it's hard not to recommend it for providing a clear picture of what goes on in and around your car.

The 1080p Full HD video quality was crystal clear, both day and night. I was impressed that the cameras were weatherproof and could operate all year round.
The heat and motion detection feature was a game-changer. It triggered video recording and sent push notifications when anyone entered my yard. I loved the two-way talk feature that allowed me to greet guests or warn intruders. The siren added an extra layer of security to my home.
The Swann CoreCam Security Camera also offered hands-free voice control. I could easily ask Siri or Alexa to check the footage or receive alerts. The cameras backed up my recordings locally and in the cloud, ensuring that I always had a copy of my footage.
However, I did experience a few issues. The battery life seemed to be shorter than advertised, lasting only a few weeks before needing a recharge. The motion detection could sometimes be unreliable, with a few false alarms. Lastly, the cameras' brackets had limited adjustment options, which made it difficult to position them perfectly.
Overall, the Swann CoreCam Security Camera offered a reliable and easy-to-use solution for home security. The pros outweighed the cons, and I'm satisfied with my purchase.

2024.05.21 07:57 TrueMetalSmiths Guide on Creating Custom Sheet Metal Brackets

Guide on Creating Custom Sheet Metal Brackets
Sheet metal brackets are commonly used in a variety of industries and applications, including automotive, aerospace, construction, and electronics. These brackets are critical components that provide support and stability to a range of structures and equipment. In this post, we will walk you through the process of creating sheet metal brackets, from design to fabrication.

8 Steps to Create Custom Sheet Metal Brackets

Step 1: Design the Bracket
The first step in creating a sheet metal bracket is designing the bracket. This involves determining the shape and size of the bracket, as well as any features that may be required, such as mounting holes or bends. There are a number of software programs available that can assist in the design process, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Fusion 360.
Step 2: Select the Material
Once the bracket design is finalized, the next step is selecting the material. The most commonly used materials for sheet metal brackets are aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. The material chosen will depend on the specific application and the properties required, such as strength, corrosion resistance, and weight.
Step 3: Cut the Material
The next step in the process is cutting the material to the required size and shape. This is typically done using a laser cutter or CNC plasma cutter. The cutting process must be precise to ensure that the bracket is accurately sized and shaped according to the design.
Step 4: Bend the Material
After the material is cut, the next step is bending the material to the required angle and shape. This is done using a press brake or similar machine, which applies force to the metal to create the desired shape. The number of bends required will depend on the design of the bracket.
Step 5: Add Holes and Cutouts
Once the bracket is bent, the next step is adding any required holes or cutouts. This is typically done using a punch press or drilling machine. The holes must be accurately positioned and sized to ensure that the bracket can be mounted or attached correctly.
Step 6: Finish the Bracket
After the holes and cutouts are added, the final step is finishing the bracket. This may involve sanding or deburring any rough edges or sharp corners, as well as applying any necessary coatings or finishes to improve the bracket’s corrosion resistance or appearance.
Step7: Quality Control
Before the bracket is delivered to the customer, it is important to conduct quality control checks to ensure that the bracket meets the required specifications. This may involve checking the dimensions, angles, and surface finish, as well as conducting load tests to ensure that the bracket can support the required weight.
Step8: Assembly
Depending on the design of the bracket, it may need to be assembled after it has been formed. This can involve using welding, riveting, or other techniques to attach different components of the bracket together. It is important to carefully plan the assembly process and ensure that all components fit together properly, to ensure the strength and stability of the finished product.

Popular Materials to Produce Sheet Metal Brackets

Steel: Steel is a popular material for sheet metal brackets due to its strength, durability, and relatively low cost. It can also be easily welded and machined.
Aluminum: Aluminum is a lightweight and corrosion-resistant material that is commonly used in applications where weight is a concern, such as aerospace and automotive industries.
Stainless steel: Stainless steel is a corrosion-resistant material that is often used in applications where the bracket may be exposed to moisture or other harsh environments.
Copper: Copper is a soft and malleable material that is often used in electrical and plumbing applications. It is also a good conductor of heat and electricity.
Brass: Brass is a combination of copper and zinc that is often used for decorative purposes due to its attractive golden color. It is also corrosion-resistant and has good conductivity.

Failed hotwire attempt on my STR...Need repair advice
As the title says, someone gave up midway through hotwiring my bike (2015 Street Triple R) before running off, and they've left me with a mess of cut wiring to deal with. Offhand I thought this could be an easy soldering job but I feel this is near impossible because of:
  1. how far back the sheaths have been stripped off some of these wires
  2. If I want to solder things back together, I need to cut off more of the black rubber sheathing at the top (attached to the ignition cylinder), and there is not much wire left up there to work with
  3. Extremely cramped quarters... there's no extra "play" on either side of the cut wires
This has made me consider whether it's possible to replace the entire cable altogether, and possibly just plug it into the same ignition cylinder (so I can retain my existing set of keys), but I can't figure out which specific part it would be from Triumph's crazy wiring diagram, and also from this video it seems like it's not possible.
To complicate matters further... the bike is parked 3 levels underground in a shared apartment garage. To give up and wheel it out to the street in order to get it towed to a shop will require rounding up 2-3 friends to help me push.
Overall the situation really sucks and has been pretty depressing. I've avoided fixing this for half a year because I've been dreading it. You guys are my last hope

2024.05.21 06:52 2020Boxer4 Trying to figure out my best/least expensive path of upgrading

So I have a house in southern Indiana with a 200amp main panel/service and a detached garage with a buried line to it feeding 60 amps from the main panel. I currently have 3 powered garage doors and lights, some some cordless battery chargers, a 120v 20 amp air compressor, and one (unused) 40 amp 240v plug. I plan on using this for an EV plug, and I asked an electrician while he was doing some work on my garage sub-panel fixing a grounding issue and he said it “should be fine” I’m no expert but that didn’t fill me with confidence.
To further my concern is I’m wanting to switch my gas furnace and water heater in the main house to electric heat pump units, I already have electric stove, and dryer. I’m trying to figure out what I need to do and if I can get away with staying on a 200A service.
It is a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house, 2 story home + finished basement, and I do want to eventually put solar on the home. The home was build in 1904.
I’ve heard I can put a second meter on the garage and separate it from the house, I just don’t know if that the best option, especially given how Indiana currently handles net metering for solar it seems like I would be better future wise to keep them on the same circuit.
Any suggestions are appreciated. To be clear, I have no intention of DIYing any of this, just wanted to get some opinions.
