I work at a nursing home and over the weekend I had to call in sick because of a stomach bug, and it's policy at my workplace that if you call in on the weekend you have to get a doctors note. The problem is that the on-call doctor I saw didn't seem to understand, and addressed it as Deadname (Vanessa) Last name, and I didn't notice the mistake until I got home. I have no idea how I'm going to explain this at work but I think my only option may be to come out, which isn't the worst thing but I wasn't really ready for that.
Tldr: Doctors note for work has both my deadname and my real name, and I don't know how to explain that.

Dr John Chia has found that antibody tests using neutralisation method are sensitive enough to detect the chronic low-level coxsackievirus B and echovirus infections often found in ME/CFS patients.
Whereas he found that antibody tests using other methods of antibody detection such as CFT, ELISA and IFA may not be sufficiently sensitivity to detect chronic enterovirus infections (these tests may work fine in acute enterovirus infections, where this is lots of virus in the body, but not for chronic enterovirus infections, where there is much less virus).

In the ARUP Lab coxsackievirus B and echovirus neutralisation tests, Dr Chia says antibody levels of 1:160 to 1:320 and higher are good indicators of chronic active infection.
But if you were tested for these two enteroviruses by less sensitive CFT, ELISA or IFA methods, and your results were negative, or showed low antibody levels, you might incorrectly assume you do not have a chronic coxsackievirus B or echovirus infection, even though you may actually have one.
So using the wrong enterovirus test can lead to false conclusions about your infection status.

It is worth knowing if you have active enterovirus infections with coxsackievirus B or echovirus, because Dr Chia has a number of treatments for these infections, including oxymatrine, Epivir and tenofovir, which in some patients find can make a major improvement.
Labs which offer the neutralisation tests for enterovirus are rare, and there are only a handful of them in the world. The following labs can test you for coxsackievirus B or echovirus by neutralisation:

Note that if you were tested by the ArminLabs coxsackievirus B test, this is more-or-less useless, as out of the six coxsackievirus B serotypes, B1 to B6, it only tests for Coxsackie B1, and does not test for Coxsackie B2 to B6. This fact is not stated on this test's webpage (but it is stated here under: Virology > Ligand Assays); many ME/CFS patients get the ArminLabs CVB test and think they have tested for Coxsackie, but they have not.
Dr Chia observes that the coxsackievirus B and echovirus serotypes most often found in ME/CFS are:

• CVB3 and CVB4 first and foremost
• Then CVB2, EV6, EV7 and EV9
• And then much less EV11

So the ArminLabs test does not test for the most common coxsackievirus B serotypes found in ME/CFS. It also uses the IFA method, which may be insensitive for chronic coxsackievirus B infections.

As the woman is picking the herbs, she feels a nearby presence. She brushes it off as being a curious animal, but the presence seems to get closer and closer. Before she knows it, a hand rips away her basket and starts rifling through it. The hand belongs to the elf prince who rules and protects the forbidden forest.
Elf Prince: (Smirk) Ah ha! Look what we have here! A little human trying to steal from my forest. Don’t you know it is not nice to take what is not yours?

Now, my dear girl, you have a long day ahead of you. My maids will show you to your room and will help you settle in for the night. Tomorrow, we will get you two all set for your journey.

Elven Maid 1: You must excuse the queen, miss. She has been wanting grandchildren for a few hundred years now. For some reason, the three other sons have yet to produce any. She just gets over-excited whenever she finds a potential bride for Prince Damar. [water pouring sound]

Her majesty typically does not see humans as worthy of marrying into her family, but your heart proves that you may bring some good things into the court. I honestly find some of the noblewomen quite stuffy. [soap suds sounds?]
Elven Maid 3: Also, you are the second person to ever be offered those three tasks. The first was another mortal woman who wanted some Golden apples for her siblings. Her village’s food supply was running low during a particularly bad winter. She saw those Golden apples on a branch just outside the forest’s entrance and picked some. She was immediately taken to the Queen by some guards and was asked why she dared to do such a thing. After the woman stated her case, Queen Freyalise offered her three tasks in exchange for the apples and food to help her village survive until spring. The woman managed to complete all of the tasks and was sent home with enough food for the winter. [water pouring sounds]
Elven maid 1: If I remember correctly, the human woman looked awfully a lot like you. Who knows, you two may be related and that could be another reason why you were offered the tasks. Now, let us get you into some warm clothes and to bed. You have a long day ahead of you.

“Human physiological processes and behavior are subject to alterations caused by circadian rhythms, lunar cycles (LC), and seasonal changes (Zimecki 2006). Circadian (Haus and Smolensky 1999) and seasonal (Nelson and Demas 1996) rhythms are well described; but, how humans are affected by the LC is still to be explored. Lunar lighting has been revealed to influence the physiology and behavior of various animals, including primates (Takemura et al. 2004). However, the effects of lunar light on humans have not been very evident, because most people sleep indoors and the full moon (FM) may not always be visible, especially when the sky is cloudy (Röösli et al. 2006).
Few studies have highlighted the issue of the effects of LC on human physiology with conflicting results reported in literature (Reinberg et al. 2016). The controversies could be due to the confounding variables in various study protocols as well as a lack of a reliable connection between lunar periodicities and human physiology (Reinberg et al. 2016). Cajochen et al. (2013) reported that nocturnal sleep recorded around the FM was characterized by a reduction in total sleep time with slow-wave sleep, increase in sleep latency and rapid eye movement, as well as a decrease in evening melatonin (MLT) levels 0–4 days around the FM compared to other lunar phases. MLT is mainly secreted in the pineal gland and plays an important role in the regulation of circadian rhythms, contributing to the temporal organization of human behavior and physiology (Ouyang et al. 2018). The study of Cajochen et al. (2013), showing lunar influence on objective sleep parameters and MLT concentration in a light-controlled sleep laboratory, could be considered an authentic and unique study of the LC effect on human physiology.
It has been reported that FM is associated with sleep disturbance and a higher cortical reactivity in adults (Smith et al. 2014; Turányi et al. 2014). Additionally, it was highlighted that sleep was longer and physical activity levels were lower during the FM among children at different pubertal stages (Sjödin et al. 2015). Contrarily, another study (Cordi et al. 2014) revealed that the LC had no effect on sleep in a replicated protocol of the study of Cajochen et al. (2013) with a higher number of participants in three larger samples consisting of 470, 757, and 870 sleep recordings. Similarly, Haba-Rubio et al. (2015) did not find a significant difference between lunar phases with regard to subjective sleep quality.
The human body follows a circadian rhythm with the suprachiasmatic nucleus regulating the sleep-wake cycle and other bio-rhythms (Hammouda et al. 2011). Biological parameters have been shown to be time-of-day dependent with acrophases generally observed in the evening corresponding to the oral temperature acrophase in physically active men (Dergaa et al. 2020; Hammouda et al. 2011).
The reduction in total sleep time during the FM seems similar to an acute partial sleep deprivation. My review: So I googled and realised that Lan Hua is the Chinese name for magnolia in English. I have no idea how magnolia actually smells like because I have never seen it in real life. Or even if I have, I probably didn't notice it. Flowers are really not my thing.
According to some Chinese websites, Lan Hua is the shortened name of Mu Lan Hua, as in Mulan, the Disney chinese "princess warrior" who is an actual historical character known for pretending to be a man in order to save her elderly father from military conscription and certain death is named after the magnolia flower. It's kind of ironic because in chinese, the magnolia flower symbolises female beauty, wealth and honour. A cross-dressing FtM named after a flower that symbolises femininity tickles something inside me for some strange reason.
My first impression of the perfume when I sprayed this was, "okay... this is very chinese. It is indisputably chinese. It smells chinese. Why? What about it is so chinese to me?" Then I realised, every year, my family used to conduct certain rituals during a day called Ching ming jie, in English called: tomb sweeping day. We would go to the cemeteries of our grandparents to clean out their plaques or gravestones depending if they had been buried or cremated. We would bring these colourful flowers that were a mix of white, purple, yellow, orange that smelt delicate sweet and light, almost like jasmine. Lan Hua from olfac3 brought back those memories for me. Have you ever made a pot of Chinese jasmine tea? You put the flowers in, and then you pour hot water in. When the water goes in, a delicate light sweet scent is released. Lan Hua smells like that, with a few differences. First, there is definitely a tinge of creaminess similar to vanilla that is absent in delicate jasmine. The creaminess adds a touch of depth and elegance to the delicate light sweet floral. Second, I can definitely detect the warmth and sweetness of the Amber that grounds the delicate floral. Even though the notes list musk and sandalwood, I can barely detect any powderiness or wood in this particular perfume. This scent is nostalgic for me. It's 6am here now, so I have no one to get feedback on it from. But I will be very interested to show this to my Chinese friends and ask them how they feel about it later today.
For me, this is not a scent that I personally would wear. It's too orientally feminine, too delicate, too elegant and would not go with my berms, sneakers and dry fit shirts as I run around in rough developing areas planning logistics. But I could imagine a beautiful high class woman in a red cheongsam sitting in front of an ornate mirror, her hair all done up in a neat bun held together by one of those silver hair chopsticks, putting on her pearl earrings and getting ready to go to a ball or high tea. It smells of oriental feminine elegance. It is a lovely nostalgic scent for me in particular as a Chinese.
I honestly am tempted to send it away to someone random on reddit from another ethnicity, and ask them how they feel about it because this one brings up very strong emotions and memories for me. I would love to know how someone from a different culture perceives this particular scent, like would they see themselves wearing it? What images or feelings do they have when they sniff it? Is the oriental femininity just a prejudice of mine that comes from childhood experience or do ppl from different cultures feel the same way. I am going to the post office to see if I can send this tiny sample away if anyone here wants to try it and is willing to answer those questions i have above. I prefer the person getting the sample to not be east Asian, if that is alright? There are too many cultural similarities for someone East Asian to satisfy my curiosity. Hi all, longtime listener, first-time caller. Please see my query and first 300 below.
My biggest question is this: 95% of the story takes place in 2014, but the book opens in 2020 when my main character receives a letter from the California Dept of Fair Housing & Employment informing her of an investigation into behavior at Chatpic. Receiving the letter spurs her to tell the story of what happened back then. The book checks back into 2020 in the middle as my MC tries to get more information about the investigation, and then it ends back in 2020 again when she decides what she wants to do about the letter.
The reason the story takes place in 2014 is because the time period--pre #MeToo/Donald Trump/the workplace reckoning of 2020--informs the decisions the MC makes back then, and she's looking back at it from a wiser perspective. If you've read The Rachel Incident, Caroline O'Donoghue does a similar thing as she retells a 2008 abortion story from the perspective of present day.
In the end, the investigation is not a driving force of the plot--so my question is how important is it that it's mentioned in the query? I ask because I've found that trying to add that piece to what I've already written starts to get convoluted, though obviously I can work at it. I think it's very clear once you read the first 300, but for agents who don't want a sample, is it clear in the blurb that this story is looking back to a time gone by?

A lot of people might revel in the idea of receiving a letter announcing an investigation into their ex-employer.
One might, for example, envision draping themselves in a mink stole, lighting the cigarette at the end of their old-timey cigarette holder, and dialing the investigator’s number from a rotary phone atop a solid wood desk under shadowy, film noir lights. One might then imagine whispering I knew this day would come into the receiver between bursts of psychotic, hysterical laughter as they rejoiced in the long overdue arrival of the long arm of the law.
But me, I wasn’t so sure. Maybe because I didn’t have a mink stole.
No, I was crouched on the ground of my parents’ musky basement in Des Plaines, Illinois, knee-deep in piles of old diaries and CDs when I received notice of one such letter. It was month four of COVID, and Dad and I were only halfway through his cleaning list. He was already a germaphobe so a global pandemic was all he needed to justify a top-to-bottom disinfection of the entire house. And since my routine trip home in the middle of March turned into a hapless extended stay when the world shut down, it was the perfect excuse to put me to work. Just like the good old days.

I got diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia about 3 years ago (I'd have to dive into my notes but it's been over 2 years) and it was life changing to finally know what was wrong with me and how to help it. For years before it I just knew it would help sometimes if I had something savory (protein) to absorb the sugar, and just felt like i was going crazy so much of the time. I'd crash, get hungry, angry, couldn't stop crying, even self harmed.
It isn't exactly easy to go to a low carb diet but I felt so much better it was worth it, learning I actually felt less hungry if I DIDN'T eat white bread or other high carb/sugary stuff and actually felt more full when I ate less as long as it had enough fiber and protein. I wasn't on a keto diet but I quickly learned that anything keto or Atkins was usually safe to consume and some actually tasted good.
My father is a narcissist and noticed I was losing weight (like most Americans I'm over weight but I was happier about feeling better than getting closer to a healthy weight) and not eating the trash he would buy or make (besides all the carbs and salt he doesn't practice any food safety like handwashing so I don't like to eat what he makes) and to try to force me to eat his food he'd throw my low carb food in the dog dish. That was just one of many ways he tried to control my life. Fortunately a little less than two years ago I was able to get into a group home.
At first there were some misunderstandings in the group home about my dietary needs, but this place was all about setting people up to become independent and healthy and with my Endocrinologist's notes I was able to work things out to have a low carb diet and didn't have crashes.
Unfortunately this first group home is only supposed to be transitional living so I had to move out and landed in this second group home. And this place has been hell. The first group home was setting people up to move on, would teach life skills like cooking (I already knew how to cook before coming to the first group home, helped teach others, it was a good environment) here people just come to rot. It used to be a nursing home and refuses to let anyone forget that. I can't even go into the kitchen, much less cook anything that can't be microwaved.
My dietary needs would have been on my application for this place. And I told them my first day here that I have reactive hypoglycemia and need to have a low carb diet.
They don't care. The only bread they have is white bread and they have white bread with every. single. meal. Shepherd's pie get a side of white bread. Pasta gets a side of white bread. If you don't like what's for breakfast you can get cereal- and don't expect something like Cheerios, the only cereal they have is sugary cereal, this morning I tried to get a cereal that isn't sugar and all they had is Fruity Pebbles and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, one morning they gave me Capn Crunch. If you have researched life with reactive hypoglycemia by now you know sugary cereal is on the don't eat list, and having sugary cereal first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is possibly the worst thing you can do, expect maybe hard drugs. No protein besides the milk they pour on it.
If you don't like what's for lunch or dinner you can get peanut butter and jelly- on white bread.
I calculated what this place feeds us in a single day and it's over the recommended amount of salt, sugar and carbs and below the recommended amount of protein. The only vegetable I've had in over two days was a little corn in the shepherd's pie and potatoes. They give us potato chips at least once a day.
I'm disabled (claim keeps getting denied) so I have no income. My endocrinologist got insurance to cover protein shakes for me, but the insurance only covers one of those a day. I bought a jar of peanut butter the other day so I can get some protein and have been eating straight peanut butter to the point that I'm sick to death of peanut butter.
Today I had an appointment so I had lunch over 2 hours late. They decided that i didn't need dinner. Didn't even ask me, I just went to dinner and had no food.
If you're wondering how I'm eating like this without crashing- I'm not. I've been having episodes pretty much daily since I got here. My mental health has gone to hell, I struggle to think straight. I keep dropping things. My joints all hurt. I'm supposed to have a job orientation later this week but I don't feel up to it at all since I'm always too hungry to even think.

Long story short have you all experienced your Vs having a pleasant, impartial or negative disposition towards strangers?
My dog is so sweet to her immediate family (me and my partner). She had boundless patience and lets us shower her with physical affection and gives it right back to us 10 fold. But when it comes to other people she sometimes has a really hard time accepting our friends into the home even if she knows them and sees them somewhat often. What’s strange is even though she doesn’t see my parents much she lovesssss when they come over and in fact will opt to sleep with my mom over me. I don’t know how she knows but she knows and loves my parents like they are her family too.
What I’ve noticed though as transitioned from puppy to dog:
1) she is very suspicious of strangers. Won’t let them touch her and will even bark at them if she is on a leash and someone sticks there hand out to offer a smell 2) I took her to my mom’s house recently which is brand new to her. She developed a strange behavior were she would aggressively bark if a bird so much as perched near the fence. She doesn’t do this at our house. She will whine to go outside or yip in excitement but she won’t lunge at the window. She did a similar behavior with anyone who came to the house (lots of people in and out over the weekend) she would alert bark, she’d then calm down when we all started talking and something would set her off and she’d start alert barking all over again 3) she is not reactive when we are outside on leash as long as no one surprises her with a greeting. She’s never bitten anyone but she has barked in the face of a drunk man or two.
Side note: it’s very possible that in all the above scenarios she could have used a nap.
I can’t even say I hate these behaviors because if I ever do feel unsafe she picks up on it immediately. I guess I’m just trying to make sense of these behaviors so I can help her manage feelings. This is my first dog and she is beyond incredible but I also understand I have a sample size of 1 so any data is good.

I bought a matsoni yogurt starter from Cultures for Health, and activated my culture. I mistakenly used 4 cups of whole, pasteurized milk instead of the 2 they recommended. In spite of that, it did set up within the 48 hour window they said it would (took about 30 hours sitting on the counter, between 70⁰F and 75⁰F).
I tasted it, and it tastes very much like thin sour cream. The website only says it has a "thin, custard-like texture with notes of honey". Not getting any honey, but it looks and feels right. Anybody had the chance to taste a Matsoni/Caspian sea yogurt? I'm a little concerned I messed it up.
CfH do send you two samples with your order, but alas, I have already sent the second one to a friend across the country, so they can't make it and share it back to me if I have screwed it up.
