2024.05.31 02:54 Darach_Sidhe Pokémon Yellow Legacy ~ A Trainer's Thoughts

Pokémon Yellow has a special place in my heart. It’s the first Pokémon game I’d ever had when I was a toddler, and the anime was basically my childhood. I never went anywhere past Pewter, however. I was a coward and didn’t like the battling part. I just wanted to explore the world.
This changed when I was an adult and got a 3DS. Pokémon Yellow was available on the store, and I jumped at the chance to finally play through it. Not only that, I found out about the Mew Cheat and I’ve been using that through every game ever since. And MAN was my big brother jealous!
So imagine my intrigue when one day I learned about “Pokémon Crystal Legacy”, a ROMhack from SmithPlays that is an improvement to Crystal. Larvitar, being one of my favorite Johto Pokémon, being available toward the start of the game as opposed to close to the end, was what intrigued me the most. But at the time I was too depressed for much else and didn’t know how to play it, so that went to the back burner of my mind.
Fast forward and SmithPlays releases a YouTube video saying he and his team made the “Perfect ROMhack” for Yellow and I finally figured out how to download and play hacks on my phone. I then proceeded to play the game, and finally finished on May 29. And I have thoughts.
First off, REALLY happy that I’m able to play as the female protagonist. This made immersing myself into the game so much easier, and it’s a shame Nintendo didn’t push for it when the games first came out.
Secondly, the Pokémon Centers. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gone into a loop of pressing A at the counter and healing my team at least three times in a row. It’s a habit. The sprite actually TURNS AWAY from the counter when it’s done, so I don’t have to go through that loop! By far, one of the best improvements yet!
Another improvement is how I’m able to find the area a Pokémon lives in, even when I’ve never caught it before. Not to mention the potential moves they can each get and at what levels. That helped me improve my team’s movepool dramatically. Letting Pokémon forget HMs also helped.
Professor Oak. What can I say? It was an amazing idea to take that unused code and have him battle us after Elite Four. I also liked that bit of lore between him and Agatha. It was a wonderful piece of narrative. And after we complete the PokéDex and meet him again, it gave me ideas for my story.
Team Rocket was way better. I loved the variety in their Pokémon. And especially Jessie and James. The idiots actually had me on the ropes a time or two, and seeing them grow their team like they did in the anime was impressive.
Now for some things I didn’t really like. Which honestly aren’t much.
I understand why Smith and his team would want to improve Brock’s defense. I do. He’s a rock-type gym leader who boasts about that. Fair enough. But when I have to try over 10 times to get the badge and only won by getting lucky, I have to say, “Chill TF out, AI!” I already don’t have the best blood pressure, and this did not help. And Brock is supposed to be an introduction to gym battles, so making him this difficult seems a bit unnecessary.
And speaking of AI that needs to chill, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny being post-game battles was a stroke of genius. But man does Joy make me want to punch her in the face for how many times her Chansey and Exeggutor Softboiled themselves. How much PP does each move have, anyway? That had to be a cheat. Also, I wouldn’t have put this battle in Fuchsia City. When I’m trying to do a rematch with Koga and need to heal up, I wouldn’t want to accidentally get into a battle with Nurse Joy. That happened twice. Given how Giovanni fled, I would’ve put this in Viridian City.
The move “Minimize”. Again, CHILL TF OUT AI!
Remember when I said that I figured out the Mew Cheat? I did a trial run of the game at first just to see if it would still work on my phone, but no, it didn’t. That one trainer I was supposed to run away from was too fast for me to do so. So I just used a Gameshark code after Mt. Moon. If you saw my post on this subreddit about beating the Elite Four, I mentioned there was a narrative reason I have her on my team. I’d be happy to tell you if you ask, but it didn’t seem right not to have her at this point.
One thing I would’ve added is something Let’s Go had. Archer. I wish we could’ve had him as a post-game battle as a tie-in to the Johto games, since he seemed to have appeared out of the blue in Gen II. I mean, if the devs could add those other battles, why not? But that’s my writer’s sensibilities speaking. Loose ends need to be tied or it drives me mad. Going back to the hideout and only seeing the Rockets that were left behind was pretty disappointing.
All in all, this was a great ROM. I’m really happy. And finally getting that diploma really made catching all those Pokémon worth it in the end. So, thank you, Smith. Thank you, team. For creating a wonderful ROM. Keep being awesome.
I’ll see you again in Crystal Legacy.

2024.05.20 14:01 deathkreator18 Cheats don’t work on Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories (PSX)

Hi all,
So happy to see iOS finally has emulator access! The following is about using Retroarch on my iPhone 15.
I have Retroarch on several gaming consoles, so I have some experience with it. I installed the psx rom for Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories, and updated the cheat database, and then went to use the GameShark cheats for obtaining all cards. There’s 4 lines of code total, so in the retroarch downloaded cheat list, it shows 4 codes with (1/4), (2/4), etc for each. I turned all 4 on, and a few others for in-game currency, and then applied cheats and went back in game. I did receive 2 new cards that I did not have before, and the in-game currency updated, but there should be like 700+ cards in there, and there’s not.
I googled the GameShark codes myself to doublecheck the codes, and everything is pretty much correct.
The way they are written in Retroarch looks like
00000000+0000
As opposed to:
00000000 0000
So I even manually entered a few of them that way too, but that still didn’t work.
I guess what I’m most confused about is that I’ve already done this exact same thing on my PC, and all the codes worked fine, so I’m not sure why they aren’t working here?
Does anyone have any info with issues that Retroarch might experience on iOS? Or with this game? I’m pretty sure I’m using the same Rom file between my phone and my computer too!

2024.05.02 17:37 Charlatan_666 How do you get Mew in Delta Emulator?

Hey guys!,
I wanted to to use Mew on a playthrough team for a while now, but since the the pokemon was only distributed through events, even if I use a encounter modifier code, it won’t obey me. I tried looking on the web if there were any GameShark codes or anything, but they don’t seem to work (maybe a problem with my ROM?). Is there a way to hack Mew into the game?
Thanks in advance!

Here's some simple Gameshark code to swap or remove managers in WCW Revenge.

2024.04.30 18:44 Fair-Effect-9071 Red Cheats

I’m not a nubile to the emulating world exactly but it’s been many years since I’ve had a device that can use them.
That being said I have recently downloaded a hard Pokémon Red (not fire red) rom hack on Delta, and none of the GameShark cheats are working. Tried searching but the only thing that pops up that Delta actually reads is Fire Red ones

GameShark GBP/GBC Update Files
Hey Everyone, I got a broke GameShark for my GameBoy color off eBay, with a cart flasher I was able to fix it. I then wanted to go the extra mile of retro goodness and found a Pentium III Dell laptop, threw Windows 98SE on it, and found a GameBoy to parallel cable. I installed the GameShark CD and the connection instantly worked! I can now change the wallpaper on the GameShark cart! What a time to be alive! My GameShark lacks the built in codes for the later Pokemon games (it only has red and blue), would anyone happen to have the code update file (.gcf) or better yet the Software upgrade file (.rom) that I can use in the GameSharks Windows application to update my cart?
Thanks in advance everyone!!

2024.04.08 13:26 BittenHeroes VINCENT and MANAGER (WCW REVENGE - GS codes)

VINCENT and MANAGER (WCW REVENGE - GS codes)
EDIT: this is a repost, since i accidentally posted the wrong code and couldn't edit the previous topic
VINCENT: - 8103282A 295C - 80038A45 00EB - 81031974 0001
6 MANAGERS: - 81031976 3004 - 810328C2 28DC - 810328C6 28FC - 810328CA 291C - 810328CE 293C - 810328D2 297C - 810328D6 299C - 80038A47 00CA
A simple gameshark code to add Vincent (replace Ming chee) and 6 Managers (replace Han Zo Mon). A brief explanation:
  • The "Vincent" code only add head, body type and moveset. I'm not skilled enough to hard-code the right name and costume, but you can edit yourself the way you like it.
  • the annoying "Ming chee sound" is still in...
  • Vincent has Macho Man moveset (because the multiple punches and rollup finishers fits).
  • The "Manager" code add 6 "manager head" (onoo, rude, jimmy hart, Rhodes, Liz and kimberly) and the "manager costume" (onoo, rude, jimmy hart, rhodes, liz, kimberly and sting's trenchcoat with a baseball bat).
  • As before, I'm not skilled enough to hard-code the actual names or the right head over the right body, but you can easily edit them (because head 1 goes over costume 1, head 2 over costume 2 ecc...).
  • Unfortunately, since Revenge has only 4 costume slots, you can only create 4 active managers at the same time
  • Managers usually only have punches and kicks, but since i wanted to make them fully playable, i gave them Dake Ken moveset (it's generic enough to fit most of the personality)
PS: most of the merit goes to the wonderful "AJWORLD" website and the incredible ROM dump section. My only "job" here was to try every code one by one, mixing and matching them to nail the righr results...

2024.03.23 08:53 Limabeon EntraLink, R4, and cheats

I’m trying to figure out quicker ways to access Black City to get new NPCs in White Forest.
I have been thinking of getting an R4 and dumping my carts rom on it to use cheats like double speed/ walk through walls to access Nimbasa City quicker than my other legit attempts (average 3hrs/ attempt).
Would a R4 card be able to communicate like an OG cart through EntraLink? Also can I skip a lot more story beats and gyms doing this method? Would an Action Replay/ GameShark work better?
UPDATE: so it works, with cheats activated all you need to do is get c-gear then go to Nimbasa (or another city in the octagon) then your white version has access to their black city even if the black version is on an R4.

2024.03.17 22:53 Melrich_ I need help with EZ Flash Omega cheats.

I'm trying to get the EZ Flash cheats to work with Pokemon FireRed. I downloaded the EZ Flash cheat library and none of the cheats for FireRed work on any of the ROMs I've tested. I have tried to convert gameshark, action replay and Code breaker codes using https://gamehacking.org/system/gba and then inserting them into https://ar2cht.netlify.app/converter . Either the cheats do nothing after enabling them in the EZ Flash menu in game or after enabling them the game will freeze up and make a weird static noise over and over and not do anything else. If someone could explain to me how to convert codes and add them into the .cht files that would be great. I'll put a code I've tried below to show how I converted and what it came up with and didn't work ultimately.
Unlimited Rare Candy (Code Breaker Code) 820258400044
https://preview.redd.it/v3tkp28ityoc1.png?width=694&format=png&auto=webp&s=39e51d764c3d8c92e9d92001b85ba52c1fb48025
Then I tried putting both decrypted and encrypted conversions into https://ar2cht.netlify.app/converter and then added them into the .cht file.
Example of: 13499899 9A3250E1
Comes out to:
[Unlimited Rare Candy] ON=99899,E1,50,32,9A

Doesn't work, but none of them do either. Can someone please help me understand this better and let me know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you!

2024.03.13 09:57 Siara_92 cheats crashing Pokemon Fire Red on MM+ with OnionOS

I bought a MM+ recently and immidiately started playing Poke FireRed on stock OS and stock SD card. Last weekend it suddenly crashed and some emulators including GBA with Fire Red is gone. I found guides to install OnionOS, got all BIOS and ROM files I wanted from original SD card and it worked until I applied some cheats. I used cheats from https://www.pokemoncoders.com/pokemon-fire-red-gameshark-codes/. While Rare Candies/TMs/Balls etc. workes with no issues, the game crashes everytime "Wild Poke Modifier" cheat is applied when I encounter requested Pokemon. I think the case might be the mismatch between ROM version and a cheat, but since I am new to it, I don't know how can I check the ROM version on MM+ with Onion or how can I solve the cheat issue not to crash the game?

2024.02.10 05:36 Vast-Celebration5507 retro gaming roms and cheat codes like gameshark and action replay.

I have noticed that most roms have 2 different versions, like 1.0/1.1 or 1.01/2.01. what are the differences between the versions? and if i wanted to use cheat codes, like gameshark/action replay/codebreaker, does it matter what version of the game i download?

2024.01.19 16:05 Taint_Taunt Best way to dump N64 saves in 2024?

Hey all! I'm sure this has been posted before, but I can't seem to find anything with modern recommendations.

I have several n64 games with save files dating back to the 90's that I would like to preserve before the save batteries need replacing. Specifically I have a Wrestlemania 2000 with a TON of edited and created wrestlers and belts with a rich and detailed history. I originally thought I might buy a controller pack, but those also use batteries and the save functionality in Wrestlemania 2000 doesn't really work the way I want it to. I'd really like to just dump the roms and save files to a computer, replace the save batteries when needed, then restore the carts to their original glory.

It seems like the most straight forward method is the retrode with the n64 adapter, but that seems like it is rarely in stock. I've also found info on the retroblaster mini with an n64 adapter that looks promising, but pre-orders ended back in October 2023.

What are your recommendations for products/methods I can actually get my hands on to accomplish this in 2024?

EDIT: It seems like the memory card to PC method will probably work the best for me. Along with the GameShark to dump from cart memory, I think I can do everything I need to do. I found a video explaining the method. Thanks everyone!

2024.01.13 22:15 CristevePeachFan Is there a way to get the Mario Party 1-2-3 SFX?

I need to get the sound effects of these games in my computer but it seems nobody has uploaded them anywhere, I used to record some sound effects thanks to a "Disable music" cheat code but the website that had the gameshark code got taken down, HELP
I already have the (totally legal) roms of these games but I'm not a computer nerd and I don't know how to extract the SFX

[Help] Finding cheat codes within game files through rom hacking?
Hello everyone! Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, I've been traveling across the internet trying to grab info.
Is it possible to find cheat codes within game files using romhacking tools and techniques? For example, if a game used the Konami code, could you find the Konami code function and the specific inputs that call it?
For specific reference, I recently got a copy of Bionicle the Game (2003) for Gameboy Advance. The instruction manual makes specific note of a Cheat Menu, and the only record I can find of this menu online is that it's accessible in the game through GameShark or similar code inputs, but no one knows the sequence of inputs required to access it on original hardware. I'm hoping to find this sequence by digging through the files, and any tips or pointers would be a great help as I'm quite inexperienced with rom hacking outside of using hyper-specific hacking tools (SMILE, MAGE, KALE)

2023.12.22 23:41 Alucard4489 Questions for a newbie

Hey guys, I just purchased a pocket finally, loving everything about it so far just have some questions hopefully this community can help me answer:
1 Is it possible to run the most recent version of AM2R on this thing? It's one of my all-time faves
2 Does GameShark work on both the ROMs as well as the actual cartridge for games? (ex. Pokemon)
3 Can I get the 101 on GBstudio? Most videos I've seen on YouTube are clear on this function.
Thank you all

2023.12.20 17:56 Redelax Issues with libcrypt games, what are my options?

Hello,
I'm currently trying to burn games that are protected by libcrypt. I have a known good dump of Ape Escape, with the patched sub file. My PS1 is running UniRom on a gameshark cartridge and I use Verbatim CDs. But I'm running into issues with my burners. I use an external slim (laptop like) cd/dvd burner (my desktop doesn't have 5"25 bay) and it can write at a minimum of 4x speed which works well on my PS1 for non libcrypt games.
The issue is that apparently laptop slim drives automatically repair subchannels, like I can't check the "Don't repair subchannel data" on CloneCD, it's greyed out. It seems to be the case for all slim drives as I tested this on a few old laptop I had lying around and I have the same issue. I tried to burn the game with a PS1 profile with this line already checked but it didn't work, I'm stuck on main menu.
I tried with another desktop pc which has a dvd drive and there I can check the line and burn my disc without issues. It worked in my PS1, at least past the main menu. But now the issue is that this drive burn at 16x speed minimum, which my PS1 can't seem to handle. With this disc, the first cutscene audio is completely glitched and after it the console just blackscreen forever.
So now I have a dvd drive that burn at the right speed but is not compatible with libcrypt and another one that is but burn too fast...
Do you have ideas? Is it really hardware related or maybe using another software to burn discs could work?
I also know I could change the optical drive of my PS1 to play 16x but I'm not sure where to find a good quality one. The ones on Amazon (I'm in France so can't buy on US sites without playing a lot of taxes) have very mixed reviews.
EDIT: As stated by u/JukePlz the easiest solution is to use Libcrypt Patcher to completely remove libcrypt from the rom, and then burn the game normally like a non-libcrypt game. Can confirm it worked for Ape Escape (France version).

2023.11.12 04:07 jbyrdab How many different game console libraries can you feasibly get working on a gamecube?

This is more a theoretical question than anything really worth putting into practice, as it would be way too tedious to do instead of just modding a Wii or something.
However the reason im asking is because the gamecube isnt quite the application powerhouse the wii was, which makes it less a "someone has to make an emulator homebrew app", and more about what was achievable on the console or via something like picoboot.
As for what im considering here, using Swiss (Game boy interface), accessible within a gamecube game, real hardware, or usable via action replay and having files on your memory card are acceptable.
One offs even if its emulation like the OOT/MM disc don't count as having the library accessible on real hardware as you'd need to heavily modify the game and basically replace it entirely. Not to mention for several reasons OOT's emulator is so specialized i doubt it could run most other n64 games well at all.
I think the fair expectation is that whatever is available within the gamecube library, if its available via game cheat/modfiying tools, and or that it atleast runs well enough to be considered playable on a large portion of the library.
Off hand what I know for sure is possible without any major hardware modifications:

What I know isn't:
I know there is alot more that can be done with picoboot, so im curious. How much can someone fit onto a single cube using methods not available via semi-normal methods.

2023.10.17 18:29 marbonmb How does Master Code works exactly ?

Hi, I recently got a GameShark 2855 (the black handled one) and I can't find the Master Code for my game language version (I play on Ruby, French Version)
Also, I'm wondering HOW Master Codes are working, like what it exactly do on the game, is it a sort of encryption key or something like that ?
Additionnaly, is there a way to find Master Codes or to convert them from CBA or something like that ? I can find Master Codes in 8bit format, but I never saw in 12bit format !
I know that ARCrypt can find the master code of a game if we give him the ROM Image. But, it can only generate it for CBA, and im not sure of what to do with this.
I'm kinda new there but it's so exciting to go back in past with those physical AR while today it's often integrated in some SoftWare way (like on the Switch for example)

Thanks a lot if someone have any informations !
