2024.05.19 18:54 XollobsGod Low dose Naltrexone for Long Covid headaches.

Male, late 50s. I have had headaches virtually every day since first Covid bout in 2021. Still ongoing 2.5 years later. Rare in morning, usually afternoon/evening, coinciding with abrupt onset fatigue and feeling need to sleep.
Headaches are always burning’ in nature, like someone has rubbed my eyes and brain surface in chili.
Some relief from acetaminophen (paracetamol), codeine, Neurofen – needing to take in combination most days. Been trying Amytriptylline 20mg/day for past few months – slight dampening of pain but only that, has not reduced frequency.
Interestingly headaches more common if indoors, unusual if outside in fresh air.
With ongoing headaches really want to get off these daily drugs and moreover reduce what seems to be ongoing neuroinflammation from the Covid-induced immune response.
Have now developed mild balance, tremor, gait issues over past year. Saw neurologist, was rather dismissive, offered no treatment. Peripheral neuropathy in wake of Covid too, nerve conduction studies suggest small fibre neuropathy.
Really don’t like the thought of ongoing neuroinflammation and hate the thought that these ongoing headaches and other neurological symptoms may represent first signs of progressive brain injury, perhaps prefacing neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. My anxieties in face of ongoing symptoms are founded, see e.g.[1]
I am now planning to try source low dose naltrexone (LDN) 1.0-4.5 mg/day because I want to stop the headaches and need to try stop any further neurodegeneration. LDN has been used in Long Covid to reduce pain and inflammation. It has potentially beneficial immune modulating effects and is anti-inflammatory. One leading neuroimmunologist also suggested LDN is promising and might work ‘for most’ with LC.[2] Small trials have also show some promise,[eg 3,4] but large randomised controlled trials are needed. A large Canadian trial is underway.[5]
Meanwhile, I am interested in readers’ experience with LDN to treat LC headaches and fatigue. Has it worked or not for you?
PS I sympathise and empathise with all members of this group and have benefitted from many past posts – thank you.

Double unrelenting force shout
Hello!
I posted a week ago about bugs I encountered during mid game, like double texts and stuff. I was able to get rid of them by listening to the tips I got and reorganize my LO. But not this one. The issue is when I kill the first dragon at Whiterun I absorb it's soul but then I get a second shout which is silent. I don't even have a clue which mods are conflicting this bad. I don't have the idea where to start searching. Is it quest mods, magic mods or follower mods? I don't know..😭 Any help and tip are appreciated!

2024.05.17 01:52 No-Werewolf-8092 Whooping cough or pneumonia? 32 F

Age 32
Sex F
Height 5’6”
Weight 165lbs
Race White
Duration of complaint 4 weeks
Location Minnesota, USA
Any existing relevant medical issues Bronchitis; Bipolar I
Current medications Lithium 900mg, Caplyta 42mg, Seroquel 50mg
I posted last week about an ongoing respiratory illness. After multiple urgent care visits, I took prednisone and cough syrup with codeine along with amoxicillin that all finished on Monday.
I’ve had a cough that’s worsening even after medications. I’m woken up every night multiple with bouts where I can’t breath, have mucus, and last for 10-15 minutes. During the day, I’m coughing almost constantly and am fully hoarse. I’m a teacher (and out of PTO) so am using my voice often. Coughing happens whether or not I am speaking for any length of time. I’m constantly dizzy. I have chest pain, a headache, and tonight had a fever of 100.3 and coughed so hard I vomited.
I am seeing my primary care doctor tomorrow morning, but want to be sure I ask appropriate questions so this doesn’t linger. I’m worried my symptoms may indicate whooping cough or pneumonia. Thanks in advance for your help.
ETA: My students are in first grade, so 6-7 years old

2024.05.16 21:26 abrashca Surgery in a week!!

Hi all, I’m a 25 year old woman and I’m having my gallbladder out next week. I have some questions about surgery and recovery etc
Back story - So I had a baby 6 months ago and since his birth I started having these periods of horrific pain after eating, not all foods though just some foods, I’d get trapped wind and be burping for hours until the pain subsided, I genuinely didn’t know I had gallstones at this point! Then 3 weeks ago I had my “trapped wind” again at 3am (it was always waking me up from sleep) and I was vomiting for hours, I rang 111 as I’m in the UK and they told me it was a stomach bug and to rest but I was in AGONY. I couldn’t get comfy I couldn’t walk and I was delirious so my partner put me in the car and took me to A&E. turns out I had pancreatitis as well as gallstones, I was totally neglected in a&e for 36 hours and developed sepsis, pneumonia and on top of that I was the colour of a Simpson as I also had jaundice. Anyway after a 10 day stay in hospital when they finally took me seriously and treated it all they discharged me and told me my operation date to have this pesky organ removed. I’m still having attacks now, not bad enough for A&E but pretty bad, barely eating and I’ve lost 3 stone since the whole ordeal 3 weeks ago.
I’ve never been under general anaesthetic before. How does it feel when you come round and what pain relief will they give me? Will I stay in overnight? Will I be discharged with more than just paracetamol? Codeine doesn’t work for me at all, I don’t think my body breaks it down properly.
So I just want to know everyone’s stories with surgery, recovery and pain relief please? As I said I have a 6 month old little boy, I gave birth to him via C - section and had ZERO pain relief for that which was fun as you can imagine 😂
Sorry for such a long and rambly post, I know it’s routine and they do hundreds of them, but it’s not routine for me so I’m nervous of the pain and recovery and what to expect.
Thank you everyone 🤍

2024.05.16 09:55 mistysheet I got pain medication!!!!

I had a call with my doctor last week about my mental health, and I had a bit of a breakdown about how much my pain is affecting me. It has just passed a year since I started feeling constant, debilitating pain that has left me pretty much housebound. I’ve been really hesitant when asking for prescription pain medication for the past year as I was hyper aware of what it could come off as as a 20 year old uni student asking, so I have just never brought it up and just asked for scans and checkups etc, and took over the counter meds daily. I was given codeine at an A&E visit during a horrible episode, and it helped although made me incredibly tired and stupid, so I wasn’t interested in asking for any more opioids.
Last week I think something in me snapped and I realised I didn’t have to live this life that is making me so anxious and depressed and I have the right to request my pain be managed, and I pretty much told him “I can’t imagine living like this for the next however many years until my surgery. I’m not functioning and it’s killing me”. He faffed about for a bit, telling me “well I’m not really sure what to do to be honest” and “I’m not sure there’s much I can do for you to help in this case” and “When you phoned today what were you hoping I’d say” and I just persisted with “I want advice on the best route for me to take to get this pain under control until I get the surgery”, and finally he offered me tramadol to take as needed (despite sounding very unhappy about it). I’ve only taken one in the past week as I’ve decided only to use them when my pain is affecting my ability to complete tasks, but when I did, oh my God. Within an hour my pain was down to a 2 (a number I very rarely feel), and after 7 hours or so it climbed back up to its usual non-flare up level. I was able to just skip a quick flare up until the baseline pain reached a level I can deal with. It doesn’t make me feel drowsy (in fact I feel a little more energised), it doesn’t make me stupid and stoned like codeine, maybe just a tiny bit more chilled out than usual.
Just knowing that I have this to fall back on when I know I’m going into a flare up has reduced my anxiety tenfold, and knowing that if I have an event or a class to show up to and I’m too sore, there’s now a chance I could make it is a security that I haven’t felt in years. I hope I won’t need them forever, but knowing I have something to pull me over until the next step is such a relief on both my mind and my body.
In conclusion, doctors who say controlled drugs are not appropriate treatments for chronic pain need to go back to school. I am so grateful toward myself for making this choice and standing up for myself.

2024.05.15 09:40 Flaky-Breakfast4693 So many questions….

Hi, first of all sorry for the long post. I guess I’m just trying to see if anyone has had a similar experience/ask a few questions. I’m a little over 3 months postpartum and never had any issues before giving birth, around 2 weeks postpartum I had what I now know to be an attack which at the time I thought was a heart attack.
After several attacks, being ‘diagnosed’ with acid reflux and several hospital trips (the last one after being in agony for 5 days) they did an ultrasound and blood test and I have lots of stones throughout my gallbladder and had abnormally high liver function due to an infection in my liver and inflamed gallbladder. I had antibiotics and was sent on my way. Then had to go back for a follow up blood test 2 weeks later and my liver markers were still abnormally high so the doctor said I ‘technically’ have liver disease due to my gallbladder.
I am waiting to see a surgeon to talk about my surgery and actually get on the waiting list. That was about 5 weeks ago, I’ve heard nothing since from the doctors and I’m wondering if I should keep pestering them for more blood tests to check my liver function as i know it can damage my live give me an infection every time i have a bad attack, do I actually have liver disease and should they be doing something for it I.e. medications?
All they’ve given me is buscopan and codeine for the pain when I do have an attack. I just want to have it taken out as soon as possible, I’m in the U.K. and the waiting list is 6 months to a year and when I do have an attack the pain is unbearable and the doctors have just told me to be on a low fat diet but have said nothing about what I can eat so I’ve been living of chicken, veg and a few other ‘safe’ foods, so does anyone have any recommendations for safe foods and how much fat, saturates etc is ok I’ve heard it should be 3G or less per 100g. Thankyou!

2024.05.14 17:47 Comfortable-Carry563 Is God trying to take me out ? Lol JK but I definitely feel like it sometimes

I have migraines with aura, and I also get tension headaches. I also suffer from CVS AKA cyclic vomiting syndrome. Sometimes, a wonderful ( Obviously sarcasm) combination of both , called a mixed tension migraine with aura. As well as near constant pain from all my other health issues. Including pain from numerous surgeries, etc.
I do take rizatriptan if it's only a Migraine with aura . I also have promethazine oral and suppositories if I'm also having nausea and vomiting, or if I'm in a cycle of my CVS. But I also have fiorcet with codeine and 5 mg Valium that I take if I'm having a tension Migraine or a delightful ( Once again, sarcasm.) Mixed tension Migraine with aura. As well as numerous other health issues to the point that I'm almost always in pain.
I am blessed to have an absolutely amazing primary care dr who also suffers from mixed tension migraines, so he knows exactly what I'm going through. So, I'm able to get my desperately needed medications from him instead of pain management or a neurologist.
But , in all honesty, I am blessed because I have amazing, i.e., very expensive, private family insurance. I pay a ton for it every month , so I'm sure this helps ! It is an absolute necessity for my child and I to have very good health insurance due to my health history.
I have a history of ovarian and cervical cancer. DVT blood clots, ( which I currently have 3 in my left arm, diagnosed after extensive imaging less than 11 days ago . Which they're guessing this time , that they're from a combo of laparoscopic surgery, plus my blood clotting disorder) last time I had 2 DVT blood clots , 1 in my arm , 1 in my leg from they're guessing , a combo of my blood clotting disorder plus IVF medications .
This led to pulmonary embolism twice in 2021, ( while undergoing IVF, thankfully, before my FET ) 1x before being in the hospital and then again while in the hospital.
I also unfortunately have 47 different severe allergies , some to food , medications, and different environmental factors , think animal dander, pollen, bee stings etc ( most of which are anaphylactic reactions), a rare blood clotting disorder which led to 11 miscarriages and 3 late term losses. As well as adenomyosis, endometriosis, severe stomach bleeding, uterine fibroids, Nonneoplastic polyps in my colon, diverticulitis, obviously migraines with aura and mixed tension migraines, tension headaches, CVS AKA cyclic vomiting syndrome, severe insomnia , anxiety. ( which , duh, look at my health history)
I was also in a devastating car wreck when I was 7, which left me in a coma for 13 months . I've had surgery on both shoulders twice, 4 times on my right ankle, and numerous other surgeries.
I also , after having an emergency c section due to a placental abruption at 31 weeks with my son . I then ended up having severe postpartum hemorrhage and sepsis 7 days later due to the on call dr leaving a piece of my placenta inside me ! ( I had to be admitted to the hospital , thank goodness it was the same hospital that my son had been transferred to because they had a level 4 NICU . The hemorrhage also resulted in me having to have blood and iron infusions numerous times . I also have the BRCA Gene 1 & 2 , an immediate family history of colon cancer and breast cancer, as well as AML AKA acute myeloid leukemia. Heart disease and numerous others.
I once semi jokingly said to my PCP ( primary care provideDr), do you ever get the feeling that God is trying to take you out ? Because it feels like that to me, lol . Being the absolutely amazing Dr that he is , he said , he's not trying to take you out , he's just showing/proving (to) you how strong and resilient you are. He has amazing things for you in the future ❤️ Sorry this was so long ! I didn't realize how long it was going to be !

2024.05.13 06:54 tnczno pain after surgically assisted miscarriage

I had a missed miscarriage that i chose to have surgically removed on the 8th may 2024. i was 9w6d and had excruciating pain on my lower right abdomen which led me going into a&e on the 4th may, i then went back into hospital on the 6th due to worsening pain and light spotting, baby was confirmed to be in my womb but had no heartbeat on the 7th may.
after the operation i had minor cramps and bleeding, however i had not passed stools from the 5th-10th may and chalked up some of the pain from being constipated due to being on codeine for 4 days at the hospital. i had taken senna(laxative/stool softener) to help with the constipation.
my worry now is that i have passed stools and they are starting to look normalish ( not hard and pebble like) however for the past 24 hours or so, i have had excruciating pain again in my lower right abdomen, worse than it was previously but exactly in the same spot it was before. the pain is a mix between a tugging/tight pain, throbbing and stabbing. the pain is constantly there but occasionally i get a really sharp almost contracting like pain, that is worse when standing/sitting.
should i go to the hospital or could it just be that i am still a bit constipated? TYIA

I found my journal from the pandemic….
For context, our school made us keep a journal during the pandemic, my parents are divorced, and my dad refused to follow Covid guidelines while my mom retreated into excessive quarantine. I was 16 at the time, and I imagine this was somewhat satirical (I hope).
